TT: Wow. Bravo, Dave. You've outdone yourself.
TG: i wrote this one exceptionally fucking terrible to represent my inner darkness
TG: i can never unwatch those cinematic fossilized turds theyre like time capsules devoted to everything wrong with america
TG: you dont even understand how egregious that was
TT: I can sense the utter malaise and contempt in every word. It's beautiful.
TT: One particularly interesting point I'd like to make is the fact that you managed to refer to butts in a song about a male target, 10 times in the span of 37 lines. It's not an exorbitant amount, but it appears to be a running theme in your works. Very interesting, if you ask me --
TG: nooooo
TG: nope no
TG: not this shit again
TG: listen one of them is karkats fault
===
CG: ROSE, YOU JUST DON'T FUCKING UNDERSTAND WHAT HE'S DOING HERE AT ALL.
TT: No? Please, enlighten me Karkat.
CG: GLADLY.
CG: HE STARTS OUT WITH THE FRIGGIN WORD "ANAL" PRECEDING ALL OF THE OTHER MENTIONS, OF COURSE IT'S ON PURPOSE. IT INSTILLS THAT IMAGERY IN YOUR NUGBONE THROUGHOUT THE TRACK.
CG: AND YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED A RECURRING USE OF THE WORD "SHIT", IN TANDEM. BOG-STANDARD FOR DAVE, RIGHT? NO! IT'S PART OF THE EFFECT!
CG: MY THESIS: ADAM SANDLER MOVIES ARE PIECES OF ABSOLUTE SHIT AND THE REFERENCES TO WORDS LIKE "LOG" AND "SHIT" AND "ASS" ARE TO INVOKE THE SENSE OF TAKING A MASSIVE DUMP THROUGHOUT THE SPAN OF THE RAP, WHICH BY ALL MEANS WOULD BE AN EQUAL OR GREATER USE OF YOUR TIME THAN WATCHING THOSE MOVIES.
CG: RIGHT, DAVE?
TG: … yeah
TT: Okay, I'm willing to concede to that. On this subject matter, as an avid terrible movie enjoyer, you admittedly know better than myself.
CG: SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
TT: And you love them anyways.
CG: YEAH.
TG: hes right
TG: you hear that shit hes right
TG: fuck death of the author im verifying that interpretation

Deep Dive into the issues on Alastor.
CONTENT WARNING: Racism, Aphobia.
Now that I created a blog specifically for stuff like this, It's time for the dive.
Alastor is a character that resonates with me, because this guy is supposed to represent me and my people (aspec/aroace community) and I liked his pilot personality. (That went to shit)
This man got so many issues, that i have to take the pen myself and scribble what Vivzie has wrote. So, Let's start, shall we?
THE DESIGN
Tumblr media
The first time I saw the Hazbin pilot, I got confused about what Alastor was supposed to be. I thought he was just a grey human wearing some kind of animal ears until the fandom said he is a deer.
A deer. Let that sink in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Images for comparsion)
As someone passionate about the arts, this upset me. Sure, I haven't been to art school, but even I know you need to put the backstory and features in mind when designing a character.
Character design is NOT throwing things at the wall and seeing which sticks. It needs actual critical thinking. If your audience is confused about your character's species, it's time to go back to the drawing table (unless you have a reason for making it mysterious.)
Second, the overabundance of red is awful in terms of color theory. This guy is in Hell, which is also red, causing an eyesore. I got a headache when trying to focus on him on a red background. And also, colors have meaning. People associate red with danger, so the fact he even managed to get victims to kill makes me puzzled.
Also, the fact he's supposed to be mixed/black makes this design even worse. Why is he grey instead of brown, perhaps? Vivzie has a pattern of making POCs grey-skinned, which is, again, awful.
I think Vivzie only made him a POC due to the voodoo issue. I mean, just remove the symbols and you are done. But nah the symbols are too "aesthetic" to remove. So gotta change his race.
She could have used another symbols, like THIS for example:
Tumblr media
Since, you know, he's the "Radio Demon"?
THE BACKSTORY
Ok, this where I'm very confused.
Alastor is a radio host, and also a serial killer. He was born in the USA, got killed by a deer hunter by mistake, and lived in the 1920's.
This is what I gathered from being a superfan back then, and it sounds unorganised/cluttered. And the years he lived in make his design even worse. (Again! His clothing doesn't speak the 1920s!)
The fact he's from an old era, and yet speaks in modern slang is weird. He's supposed to hate anything modern, and yet he does it anyway? His saying "fuck" multiple times is so out of character for him. I guess the "If made by Vivziepop" memes have some truth.
Putting the fact he's mixed, makes the backstory more confusing. How did he manage to be a popular radio host at the time before the civil rights movement became a thing? He will have been put down like the rest of the POCs in America. Either that he's white-passing, or it's VERY difficult. Adding the fact he's a serial killer makes me think how the cops didn't get to him (the mere fact he's black should have got him questioned in 1920s America)
Now, for his identity. I'm mad he's the only aroace character in the sea of gays and bisexuals. (I'm not saying gay men and bisexual people should not have representation. I have to say that due to tumblr's piss poor reading comprehersion)
which made me go through on why Vivzie made him aroace in the first place. I don't know if this is true, but I heard she made him aroace because "he only loves himself"
Um. Here we go again with allos assuming we are non-empathic psychopaths for our lack of sexual or/and romantic attraction. I hope that's not true at all, but knowing Vivzie's past, I wouldn't be surprised.
Alastor would have been a great character if another person took care of it instead of Vivziepop. What I'm gonna say is, wasted potential.

Although he's not truly a Nazi the way Stormfront was, we do see many times throughout the show that Homelander is a bit of racist, especially towards Hispanics. I mean, he doesn't like it when he hears Ryan speaking Spanish, and all his interactions with Supersonic were so, uh, uncomfy, to say the least.
HOWEVER, Homelander is willing to overlook anything when he gets emotionally involved with someone. Like how he's always rambling on about supes being the superior race while at the same time lowkey worshipping Madelyn.
How do you think he will react to dating a Latina? I can see him being a major asshole at the beginning, complaining about her putting on Latin music while in the penthouse, and cooking "weird food". But slowly and almost unwillingly he gets dragged into the culture.
Like, her brothers and cousins adopt him and suddenly he's the guy who goes to parrillada every Sunday to hang out with his amigos, playing domino and watching freaking soccer. They nickname him "El Casas" and teach him how to speak Spanish but the type that's only spoken deep in the guetto and has grandmothers clutching their pearls.
He starts watching Soap Operas with his girlfriend ironically but then gets weirdly into them to the point that he's crying his eyes out every other episode. He also starts calling her mami/mamita and his mommy kink gets like ten times worse. Which is fine by her because she's been calling him papi rey (king daddy) in her mind since the moment she laid eyes on him.
Once they finally go public, Homelander is all but embraced by the Latino community and it makes his ratings go through the roof because America's Dad speaking perfect Spanish and dancing Salsa in his girlfriend's livestreams is the best representation they've ever gotten. His fanbase drastically changes ofc. Stormfront would be rolling on her grave, I just know it.
Forgive me if this is weird, I'm just a sad latina who's dying for representation in Homelander x reader stories.
GIRL YOU GOT ME INVESTED. i was pulling out the popcorn by the end of this!! tell me you’re gonna write this! it’s not weird at all, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to see yourself represented. i’ve had this conversation a couple of times, and i can guarantee you’re not alone in wanting this: there’s an audience waiting!
i always tag @irenadel in these (which I hope she isn’t tired of lol) because her fic Pygmalion is the only one that i know of so far that leans into this, so you should definitely check it out if you haven’t already. i happen to have insider info that she’s working on the next chapter 👀
really and truly though, it sounds to me like you have the makings of a killer fic lined up in your mind. you clearly have a solid understanding of Homelander’s psychology, too. i really think you could do something awesome with this! it’s important that people tell these stories, and i’m not always the right person to do that.
i would 100% read the heck out of this. 🖤

When/how do you think Kon started like exploring his gender? Did having to change his look to fit in at smallville have smth to do with it?
you just walked into my askbox and went "i'm gonna activate tumblr user mamawasatesttube's trap card!" i hope you know this.
so YES, firstly. i do believe changing his look to fit in with everyone in smallville had something to do with it, BUT. it's not just a case of "oh small town = conservatism, homophobia, transphobia, etc". it has more to do with him having a civilian persona for the first time in his lifie, and not knowing how to do that. through all of his time in sb94, he's never really fit in with "normal people" - he was always held apart from his classmates in hawaii, then he simply never interacted with regular people while living at cadmus, and finally when he lived in metropolis in the suicide slum it was. well. not good.
so moving to smallville and having a secret identity to protect - not just his own but superman's secret identity - is a lot of pressure to perform a role he's never played before. it's not even so much about small town attitudes so much as it is just the contrast of what he's used to and the concept of "normalcy". superboy, the clone of superman who's a hero and a celebrity, has never had to worry about being normal and not drawing too much attention. conner kent, on the other hand, has to worry about that very much.
he takes out his earring. he cuts off the longer parts of his hair and lets the shaved part grow back in. he grows keenly self-conscious of being a "geek" and making too many references to this or that media. for the first time, he starts paying consistent attention to what other people think of him and how they talk about him. it's not the same as his identity crisis before, when he just was worried about being "cool" and got a makeover about it; this is about something bigger than him, something so much more important than just his reputation. he has to keep this secret. it's not freedom, at first; it's a burden he's trying to learn to carry.
that's part of why he resents smallville at first. it's a whole new set of rules and restrictions and boxes he needs to fit into. and he's used to rules and restrictions and fitting into boxes, but these ones are nothing like the ones he knew before, and the stakes feel so much higher. he misses his "freedom" from before, so he hates "conner kent" and what smallville represents.
at this point, he doesn't really know that his gender and sexuality are involved in this repression. he just knows the way he dressed before and the way he acted before get attention in a way he doesn't want now, and he assumes any feelings of ickiness and missing anything are just tied to his whole resentment of smallville. it doesn't click for a long time. he just straight up doesn't clock that he has any gender-related feelings outside the norm, and he doesn't register any of his attraction to guys as attraction. he's deeply in his "overinvested straight ally" phase (think of his interactions with hero cruz - defending him from sparx and telling her homophobia is Not Cool!!).
and then he dies.
to establish a core part of my feelings about smallville... as someone who grew up queer in small town america, i am Deeply critical of everyone who dismisses rural areas as entirely conservative, intolerant, and bigoted. these people definitely do exist in rural areas, sure, but they are by no means the only ones (and they also very much exist in urban areas, too). to that end, i don't think smallville is just a ~homophobic little town~ where kon is miserable in the closet because of external pressure.
i do think kon does languish miserably in the closet for a time. but it's a lot of internal pressure and identity issues at play, not just the worry of homophobia. he spends a lot of time introspecting after his resurrection, learning to love his life with ma; it's during this time that i think he starts to actually realize his feelings about himself are queer feelings.
one of my personal favorite headcanons is that the first person he ever admits any of this to (first that he thinks he's into guys, bc that's the first one that he actually puts together) is hero cruz. hero is definitely the friend who's been out the longest, and very possibly (though ofc this can depend on personal hcs!) his only friend who's out at this time, given that he and cassie Just broke up.
now a major reason he struggles in the closet here is the idea that being queer as conner kent would mean deviating from the "normal" as conner kent. and conner kent is supposed to be a very normal guy, to fit in and fade into the background, to not draw attention. and that's his major hangup. it's easier to consider if superboy could come out than for conner kent to come out, because superboy has never been normal. he's always been set apart. but conner kent? conner kent has a vital secret to keep. he doesn't want anyone looking at him.
he finds it harder to accept queerness as a civilian than as a hero bc as a hero he's already "weird" and "alien" (literally), right. he can be loud and proud and obnoxious there and it doesnt matter! but conner kent is supposed to be ~normal~ and not like kon-el. conner kent is keenly aware of everything that makes him not fit in, and for a long time those things bring him uncertainty and shame because he is still struggling to try and figure out how even being a civilian works, let alone living a civilian life that's """abnormal""". it takes him a hot minute to work through this.
and then senior year, there's rumors going through smallville high because this one guy wanted to bring his boyfriend to prom but the school prom committee head teacher wouldn't sell a couple's ticket to two boys who are known to be dating despite selling them to plenty of girls who say they're just going as friends, and now a bunch of students are protesting by getting same sex couple's tickets and insisting on going actually as couples, and of course kon has to join in on that, he will always stand up against injustice even as a civilian...
...and one thing leads to another, and conner kent finds himself making out with simon valentine in the back corner of the dance hall, and they crown him prom king despite it (or maybe because of it!) and he's stunned because he didn't know he was popular (because he's kind, and loved, and funny, and good) and he's still popular despite clearly being into men now, and it's not a bad thing in everyone else's eyes, and oh? that was allowed all along?
and it's freeing.
that's the first step to exploring gender. first he has to let himself admit to being queer at all, and admit to being okay with it rather than needing to repress it forever, and it's kon. of course that only happens once he can use "helping someone else" as the reason.
NOW back up a large step. there's a second component to all this i haven't dug into yet, and it's about fashion.
more to the point, it's about ttk. one of my Favorite hcs is that he practices it via fibercrafts, even before his death but especially after. first crochet, then knitting, then bobbin lace, slowly increasing the number of moving parts he's working with; he ends up making a lot of lace.
ma uses some of his little lace scraps as bookmarks. he makes a bunch of doilies and then table runners. it's genuinely great ttk practice, but really, they have a lot of lace. so kon starts learning to sew, so he can start making lace-embellished tablecloths and then some simple circle skirts and things for ma. they sell some of them at local farmers'/crafters' markets.
and kon starts wearing some of it himself. at first he's really self-conscious, but... it's something he made, and he's proud of it, and it does look really good, so. fuck it. he and ma can go to do groceries wearing matching skirts, right? (circle skirts are easier to sew than pants, okay. pants have so much more going on. he's still teaching himself, okay!!!)
it takes him a LONG minute to realize that maybe some of the "oh, i do look good in this!" feelings might, in fact, be gender euphoria. as in, he doesn't realize it until after he starts unpacking his sexuality feelings and going ohhhh. conner kent is actually allowed to be queer and that's okay. only then does he realize that uhm... maybe conner kent is, like, extra queer. like, turn up the dial and add more spice.
with time, support and encouragement from friends and family, and some exploration, he gains more confidence in exploring presentation and actually thinking about gender. he doesn't really care that much about pronouns, but he Does hate being confined to traditional masculinity - he does enjoy being masc sometimes, but he hates the idea of having to fit in it as a box. he's much happier getting to flit around from masc to femme to all sorts of places in between. he finds it freeing.
okay i have rambled so much. this is more or less my idea for how the overall arc of kon exploring queerness goes, but im sure ive forgotten bits and pieces and will remember them within like 5 minutes of hitting post. but here we are here it is ive been typing on and off for like an hour now so im cutting myself off. there it is. my kon gender and sexuality thesis.
oh one other thing. also he loves to be young justice's babygirl. okay im done now

Like V-J Day
Or the lads kiss each other to cover for Colin kissing Michael after West Ham and a new Richmond tradition is born. 5.9k [Ao3]
Never did Sam Obisanya think he’d be clutching and screaming with Jamie Tartt after scoring the winning goal in a premier league trophy match.
For several reasons, really. He’d always believed the team could do well and he’d believed he could do himself and his family proud in this sport he loved but after everything they’d gone through and with Jamie Tartt of all people…
He was having a little trouble trying to believe he wasn’t dreaming.
That feeling only increased when Jamie stopped screaming, his eyes on something past Sam’s shoulder and going wide with panic.
“Sam!” Jamie yelled. “Kiss me! Kiss me on the mouth!”
Sam blinked at him, unsure he’d heard right. “What!?”
Jamie shook his head, his eyes still wide, and moved his hands from Sams’s shoulders to his face. “I’m gonna kiss you now.”
There wasn’t really time to think so Sam just said “Oh. Okay!” and Jamie leaned in and kissed him.
It was quick – nothing fancy. Jamie pulled away and patted Sam on the cheek. “Good lad.”
Sam just nodded, not sure how to respond to the situation. Was this another trick? Like winning an Oscar at the Espys?
Sam got distracted by Isaac and Bumbercatch colliding with him, dogpiling and screaming about his goal.
He wasn’t sure anyone else saw Jamie kiss Dani and then Jan Maas. Was this something they did now? Were they kissing each other?
Just in case, Sam pressed his lips to Moe’s temple and kissed Isaac on his nose. Isaac’s face scrunched up rather adorably but he was still screaming so Sam didn’t think he’d actually overstepped.
The rest of the team joined their huddle and with Coach Lasso’s victory dance, Sam's thoughts of kissing were quickly abandoned.
Until the following press conference.
It was a rare triple-coach event with both Sam and Jamie representing the players.
The reporters lobbed them easy questions about how excited they were for their win and how disappointing it was that Man City also won their match. But it was Marcus Adebayo, The Independent, who really brought the heat.
“Mr. Tartt, any comment on why you kissed three of your teammates on the pitch after the match?”
The coaches turned slowly to look at Jamie – Ted, surprised and delighted, Roy, surprised but trying very hard not to look it, and Beard, extremely unsurprised but pleased.
Jamie shrugged, his arms folded in front of him on the table, the picture of smugness. “Celebration, innit? We’d just won a really big match the season after we’d been promoted. ‘S like that old picture from America. After the war or summat.”
“‘V-J Day in Times Square’?”
“No, the kissin’ one,” Jamie told him. “Not sure what a VJ is but I don’t think you can do that in public.”
A couple people laughed. Sam heard Roy growl. He leaned forward to speak into his mic.
“We kiss people on the pitch after a victory all the time,” Sam said. “I don’t know why a victory this great would be different.”
“Well, you don’t often kiss each other,” Marcus offered.
“Well, never has a team been as close as this team has gotten,” Roy interjected, leaning toward his own mic. “We encourage our players to express themselves however they like. If kissing on the pitch is something they want to do after they play some good fucking football, we’ll fucking support them.” He grunted, slouching back a little. “It’s the Lasso way.”
“Aw, come on now, Coach,” Ted said, smiling softly at him. “It’s the Richmond way.”
Roy rolled his eyes but he offered a soft smile back. Sam beamed at them and Jamie’s smile was as bright as Trafalgar Square.
Jamie offered Roy a cheeky wink. “Nothing wrong with kissin’ the lads, yeah?”
“Oh fuck you,” Roy said back and everyone laughed.
They moved onto the next question.
On the way back to the dressing room, Sam hung back to walk with Jamie. “What was the kiss really about?”
Jamie grinned at him. “I’m supposed to be playing decoy, aren’t I? So I saw Colin kissin’ Michael on the pitch and I knew I had to distract everyone, yeah? Make it normal.” Jamie shrugged. “Knew Colin didn’t want to come out yet. Now he doesn’t have to.”
Sam melted a bit, taking a moment to appreciate the Jamie they have compared to the one they started with. He wrapped an arm around Jamie’s shoulders, clapping him on the arm. “Jamie, that is so sweet. I’m sure Colin will be so grateful.”
“Weren’t planning on telling him, to be honest.” Jamie frowned. “Don’t want to put him on the spot or whatever.”
“Jamie,” He shook him a bit and Jamie dropped his head, pleased. “That really is wonderful. But we should at least talk to the team. See who else might like to get in on it. The more teammates kissing, the more normal it gets.”
“Yeah, alright,” Jamie said, smiling up at him. “And I’m sorry for kind of ambushing you. Shoulda probably explained meself better first.”
“No, it was fine, I understand.” Sam told him, letting go of his shoulders as they entered the room, almost everyone else in the shower already. “And it was a nice kiss.”
“Oi, mate,” Jamie grinned. “You haven’t seen a good kiss yet.”
The transition through the off season and then back into pre-season training without Coach Lasso had everyone noticeably glum. They’d kept Coach Beard, and Nate had been promoted back to assistant coach again, but Roy as manager didn’t quite have the same charm as their American friend.
Not that Roy was bad. And not that he didn’t try.
He actually did a phenomenal job of bringing his own unique perspective of the game into coaching them on the pitch while keeping up with some of Coach Lasso’s open and compassionate policies. It was quite the environment.
An environment that spurred them to win their first game of the season for the first time since Sam started at Richmond.
Everyone was on the pitch screaming and celebrating when Jamie locked eyes with him. His eyes churned, a kind of slow illumination of feral joy, and he pointed at Sam, his grin a vicious challenge.
He stalked up to Sam, his grin growing more manic, and Sam ran to meet him, wanting to share in whatever primal joy Jamie was feeling.
Jamie, of course, gripped the back of Sam’s head and brought him into a leg melting kiss.
Oh yeah. Sam had forgotten about that.
They hadn’t yet gotten around to bringing anyone else on Jamie’s kissing scheme – except for Dani and Jan Maas, who were, themselves, kissing across the pitch – but Jamie had promised Sam he hadn’t seen a good kiss yet and well..
Wow . Yeah, okay. Sam understood why the ladies on Lust Conquers All let Jamie get away with so much now.
HIs knees actually buckled and he had to grip Jamie’s shoulders tightly to keep himself from going down. He felt Jamie smile against his mouth, laughing as they broke away. “Did I actually make you go weak in the knees?”
“Fuck off,” Sam laughed, still a little dizzy. “I wasn’t ready.”
“I warned you!”
“Not recently!”
Jamie laughed again, putting an arm around Sam’s waist to hold him up. He used his other arm to reach into the cluster of teammates celebrating next to them.
“Oi, Richard!” Jamie pulled at the Frenchman, dislodging him from the group. “Kiss me!”
Richard smirked and said something in French that was probably very dirty but Sam couldn’t understand it.
He pushed up against Jamie, his side brushing Sam as Jamie still hadn’t let him go, and pulled Jamie into a kiss without any hesitation.
He immediately shoved his tongue in Jamie’s mouth, which Sam could have told Jamie was to be expected. For all Sam knew, that might have been what he’d warned in French.
Jamie laughed as he shoved Richard away. “You prick.”
Richard just winked and moved to jump on Zorro as he passed.
“Wow,” Sam said, bringing his arm up around Jamie’s shoulders. Now they were doubly linked. “Did you tell him already? About the kissing thing?”
“Nah,” Jamie said, grinning as they walked toward the dressing room. “But he’s French, inhe? Knew he’d be up for it.”
Sam groaned. “I’d call you out for stereotyping but I also know Richard.”
Jamie laughed.
“Think Cockburn might be my next target,” Jamie mused, his lips pouting out in a thinking face. “He could probably loop in Winchester and Roberts.”
“I can talk to Moe and Babutende,” Sam offered. “I already sort of kissed Moe at the last game.”
“Yeah?” Jamie grinned. “Was it as magical as I imagine?”
Sam shrugged. “Kiss him yourself.”
Jamie winked. “You know I will.”
Watching Jamie cut a path through all their teammates over the following weeks erased any doubt Sam might have had that he was 100% serious about his role as a distraction.
He did end up kissing Cockburn, then Bumbercatch, then Zorro, and also Sam and Jan Maas and Dani every chance he could get. A couple of them cornered Sam later to ask him what Jamie was up to but were more than happy to play along once they knew it was for Colin. Meaning Sam himself had kissed Richard and Dani and Winchester and O’Brien and he even got to kiss Moe properly. Jamie was right: it really was magical.
They somehow got all the way to November before they actually had to talk about it. And, unfortunately, only because they’d hurt Colin’s feelings.
He approached Sam in the dressing room, the training after their win against Crystal Palace, when Sam had actually hopped up to wrap his legs around Jamie to kiss him at a better angle. Sam had a rotation of which teammates he’d kiss after a match but he definitely always made sure to kiss Jamie.
Sam and Colin weren’t the first two in the locker room but they were early enough to be among the first, and no one was really awake yet.
Colin was already in his training kit, looking sleepy and unobtrusive. He plopped down on the bench next to Sam’s cubby with a deep sigh.
Sam chuckled, hanging his shirt up and grabbing his own kit. “Fun night?”
“What? Nah.” Colin sighed again, reaching up to rub his forehead. “Not hungover. Just couldn’t sleep. Something botherin’ me.”
“Oh,” Sam answered, startled. He was always happy to help a teammate and friend with their problems, but Colin had never come to him before, “Would you… like to talk about it?”
“Yeah, actually.” Colin turned to look up at Sam, his wide brown eyes looking tired and sad. “Do you think Jamie’s avoiding me because I’m gay?”
“What?” Sam jerked, his head shaking in an automatic denial. “Colin, of course not. Has he been avoiding you? I thought you played FIFA with him yesterday.”
“We did! I did, he’s not I guess–” Colin huffed a breath, his brow furrowed in frustration. “‘Avoid’ might not be the best word. I just, you know, I feel left out. I feel like the team’s excluding me because I’m gay.”
Sam frowned. As far as he knew, Colin had been there for all team dinners, team movie nights, the casual FIFA with the boys. If Colin was being left out, Sam wasn’t seeing it. “Excluding you how?”
“You know…” Sam screwed up his face in question and Colin sighed. “With the kissing. The after win kissing you all do on the pitch. I know Jamie started it, and he’s kissed just about everyone – even Shannon! – but he hasn’t kissed me. Is he being weird about me being gay?”
Sam blinked and immediately had to suck his lips into his mouth to keep from laughing. Laughter would not unhurt Colin’s feelings.
They really should have seen this coming. Or, if nothing else, Jamie should have just kissed Colin. Not kissing him has singled him out the same way Colin being the only one to kiss a man would have.
“Colin, I promise you, Jamie isn’t avoiding kissing you because you’re gay.” Sam stopped and frowned. “Or, he might be, but not in the way you think.”
Colin frowned back, his shoulders slumping.
“No, hey, listen.” Sam reached forward and gripped Colin’s shoulders. “I promise, just let Jamie explain. Oh, Jamie! JAMIE!”
The locker room had been filling up while they’d been talking, the boys getting gradually livelier as their coffee kicked in. Jamie had just sauntered in, dressed in peak form in his floral track suit and orange tinted sunglasses.
He grinned over at Sam and Colin and trotted up to them. “Yeah, mate?”
“Tell Colin you haven’t been avoiding kissing him because he’s gay.”
“What?” Jamie jerked, pulling off his sunglasses so they could see his blue eyes wide in shock. “Mate, definitely not! I’ll kiss you now if you like, make everything square.”
Colin put his hand out as if to stop Jamie from kissing him. “No. No, don’t do that.”
Sam wasn’t quite as successful with stopping a laugh. He choked on it a bit. “Jamie, Colin has noticed that you’ve been kissing everyone else on the team and would like to know why you haven’t kissed him.”
Jamie frowned. “Oh. yeah, I guess that would look homophobic. You were probably right and we should have told him.”
“No good deed goes unpunished,” Sam agreed, clapping Jamie on the back.
“Sorry,” Colin said, his frown looking more perplexed now than unhappy so at least that was good. “How is Jamie kissing the whole team a good deed?”
“I’m playin’ decoy!” Jamie tells him with an undercurrent of pride you would have never seen from Jamie Tartt three years ago. “Distractin’ the press like so you and Michael can kiss after matches if you want.”
“Kiss Michael…” Colin started before his eyes widened in understanding. “Oh! After West Ham last season!”
“Yeah, mate,” Jamie said, bouncing a little on his feet. “Saw you snogging on the pitch so I quick kissed Sam and some of the other lads so at the conference, they asked me about that instead of what was happening with you.”
Colin looked at Jamie, awed and a little impressed. “I’d just thought no one had seen us. Thought I got lucky.”
Sam chuckled. “You’d have to be very lucky. There were thousands of people watching.”
Colin shrugged.
Jamie scoffed. “Nah, mate. It was me! And then Sam thought the rest of the team might want in on it, so we’ve been, like, creatin’ this culture of kissin’ the lads after a win. So if you ever wanted to do it again, you’d be sorted.”
Colin smiled. “That’s real sweet, boyo.” He punched Jamie in the arm. “But you still should have told me!”
“He was trying to be humble,” Sam told him, rolling his eyes.
“Well now that he knows–” Jamie grinned, stepping up on the bench and shouting. “Oi!”
Everyone was in the locker room by now, the stragglers still changing while everyone else chatted. They all looked up at Jamie.
“Oi! Tartt!” Roy yelled back. “Why aren’t you changed?”
“One minute, Coach.” Jamie grinned. He turned back to the team. “Everyone knows about the after-win kisses, yeah?”
Everyone muttered in affirmation, some of the boys elbowing each other cheekily.
“Well Colin knows now!”
“Was it a secret?” Zorro, asked, confused.
“It would have been hard for him not to notice,” Jan Maas added.
“Weren’t a secret, just didn’t want to make it a big deal,” Jamie answered. “But now it is. So I figured we should have, like, an open discussion of boundaries or whatever. Now that we all know what’s happening.”
More muttering of agreement but then Bumbercatch asked, “What was wrong with how we were doing it?”
“Nothing,” Jamie asked, over yet more muttering. “I fucking loved it. But I do want to make sure we’re all on the same page, yeah?”
Everyone started nodding, throwing in their agreement. The coaches were all hanging by the door of their office, passively observing, until Nate piped in, “That’s very mature, Jamie.”
Jamie scoffed. “Fuck right it is. I’m a legend at open communication.”
Nate visibly sighed. Sam smirked.
“I do want to thank you all for doing this, by the way,” Colin interjected. “I did like being able to kiss my fella after a game like that. I was worried I wouldn’t be allowed to do it again.”
“Well first of all,” Roy started, commanding the room. “It’s not a matter of ‘allowed’. We’re never gonna stop you from doing whatever the fuck you wanna do with whoever the fuck you wanna do it with.”
Colin smiled. “Thanks coach.”
Roy nodded. “On this team, we all have each other’s backs. And if that means snogging on the pitch so one of our own doesn’t have to hide, have at it.”
Jamie grinned. “Was there a second of all, Coach?”
Roy grunted, scowling at Jamie. Sam fought not to giggle.
“ Second of all,” Roy started. “Show of hands. Who’s in on this shit?”
Jamie’s hand was the first in the air, Dani and Sam’s coming up almost as quickly. Most of the rest of the starters raised their hands, as well as half of the reserves. Isaac’s hands were folded against his chest.
Sam watched Roy nod at him and Isaac nod back. He would leave that one alone. It wasn’t his business.
“What about you, Coach?” Jamie asked.
“What, me?” Roy snorted. “Fuck no, I can’t be kissing players.”
Jamie shrugged. “Don’t see why not. Same as a bum pat, innit? Besides: we need to kiss some people who aren’t teammates so Colin kissing Michael in’t suspicious.”
Roy’s eyebrows seem reluctantly swayed by Jamie’s logic but his frown didn’t move.
“I’m up for it,” Beard offered, his hand raised. “I’m always down to kiss beautiful men.”
Richard yelled something in French that sounded like agreement.
“I’m free for some smooching as well,” Will said, awkward but grinning. “I’m small so you can definitely pick me up and spin me around.”
Jamie scoffed. “‘Small’. You’re taller than me, man.”
Winchester leered at the kit man. “Been thinking about that, Will?”
Will went red and ducked his head but his lips were pulled into his mouth like he was trying not to smile.
“Anyone picks me up,” Bumbercatch added. “And I’ll kick your balls into your stomach.”
“Great boundary, Moe,” Sam told him. Moe nodded. “I myself have been fine with the level of kissing so far.”
“Bet you have,” muttered Jamie, and winked when Sam shot him a look.
Sam would try not to look at that too closely.
Colin raised his hand. “I saw Richard fully snog Jamie with tongue and everything so I’d like to ask for no tongue, please. I’ll also need to clear all this with Michael, obviously.”
“I have spoken with my girlfriends about this already,” Dani said. “They have both said that it’s wonderful. So I am free to kiss all my amigos!”
Sam smiled. Dani lived such a beautiful and loving existence.
“Jane’s good,” Beard says, waving his phone redundantly.
“It’s a no for me, oh rats,” Nate said, unconvincingly. Sam couldn’t imagine his girlfriend would have been bothered by, well, anything. But if Nate wanted an out that was fine.
“My girlfriend and I actually had a conversation about this exact situation,” Will offered, smiling dreamily.
“Will, you’re a freak and I love it,” Jamie told him, pointing at him approvingly. Will grinned up at him.
“I mean I’ve kind of had that conversation,” Colin said. “But it’s more of the hall pass thing. Like ‘which five people could I hook up with and it’s not cheating.’”
“Oh, yeah, I’ve done that,” Zorro said. “Rachel McAdams and Zendaya.”
Everyone nodded at that. “Solid choices,” Roberts added.
“But wait Colin saying that means…” Jamie grinned over at him. “Which ones of us are on your hall pass list?”
Colin went red. “No. Nope. Not doing that.”
“Well I am, obviously,” Jamie said, smirking.
“And probably Bumbercatch,” Isaac added, speaking up for the first time. His face was alight with teasing his best friend.
Bumbercatch puts a hand to his naked chest in humble thanks.
“I’m not doing this!” Colin said again, louder, his face impossibly redder.
“It’s not fair that you can only have five,” Dani said, sadly. “Since there are more than five of us.”
“I don’t want to sleep with all of you!”
“Oh, so you’re out on the kissing, then?” Sam asked, grinning.
Colin sighed, crossing his arms. “No.”
“Good lad.” Jamie winked at him.
Sam grinned, climbing up on the bench next to Jamie. "And can we all tell Colin that none of us feel weird kissing him because he's gay?"
Everyone talked over each other, rushing to comfort him.
"Don't know why it should matter," Jan Maas piped in, shrugging. "I'm not straight."
Sam jerked. “Oh.”
“Oui, nor me,” Richard added.
Sam frowned. “I thought you were just French.”
“Well I mean I’m not straight either,” Jamie said, raising his hand. “But you all kind of already guessed that, right?”
“Wait,” said Colin, eyes wide. “So I’m not the only gay one?”
“Well, I mean I still like girls so–” Jamie shrugged. “I didn’t wanna steal valor or summat.”
“That’s not what that means,” Beard sighed.
“Oh, yes!” Dani said “I also love men but do not only love men. So I did not know how to respond.”
“Right and like gender and sexuality are constructs, so why should I give in to the colonialist idea of labeling my sexuality,” Bumbercatch shrugged. “I have sucked dicks before, though.”
“Oh, yeah, same,” Jamie grinned, a dreamy look in his eye. “It’s fuckin’ great.”
Roy choked, quietly. Sam knew how he was feeling.
“Okay,” Colin said, looking as thunderstruck as Sam felt. “Show of hands. Who’s not straight?”
Colin raised his hand, obviously, and so did Jamie, Dani, Jan Maas, and Richard. Also Zorro, Bumbercatch, Winchester, Reynolds, Cockburn, Shannon, and O’Brien. And Will. And Beard.
Sam raised an eyebrow at Roy whose arms were conspicuously crossed. Roy grunted at him. “You little pricks don’t need to know my business.”
“Interesting reaction,” Beard noted.
Roy growled.
Still, all totalled up, it was most of the team.
Colin’s eyes were saucers. “Oh my God, I wish Trent were here. This is almost my Oprah fantasy.”
“Ooh, I’ll raise another hand in Trent’s honor.” Beard volunteered, lifting his other hand. “We actually had a Diamond Dogs discussion about this so I’ll let him know he was right.”
“Okay…” Sam said, shaking his head. “So wait: I’m the only straight guy who’s been kissing other men for months? It’s not just something we were all doing, secure in our heterosexuality?”
“I mean, it was still all friendly, yeah?” Jamie said. “I’m not trying to fuck all me teammates. The kisses were super platonic. I just wasn’t straight while I was doin’ em.”
General agreement goes up as people lower their hands.
“This is confusing,” Sam confessed.
“Ay, don’t worry about it,” Jamie elbowed him, grinning. “We’ll just keep on, right? Nothing to panic about.”
Sam wasn’t panicking about it, but it wouldn’t let him rest either.
The team kept on the same: they lost some matches, they won others. They always kissed. They’d even started kissing the ties sometimes, just because they all liked doing it so much.
Keeley had been annoyed they hadn’t spoken to her about it first but was actually having a marvelous time managing their statements about everything. And the fan reception had been indulgent to downright elated, fans going as far as tweeting pictures of them kissing their friends after matches.
No matter which way you looked at it, Jamie’s impulsive decision to kiss Sam was an overwhelming success.
Sam just struggled a bit to figure out what this meant for him .
He was straight. He was pretty positive he was straight.
But by this point, he had kissed everyone on the team and some coaches and he had notes.
Dani’s kisses were always sloppy and enthusiastic - Dani always smiling too much to maintain a proper kiss.
Richard would grip the back of his neck which was super nice but he always worked too hard with his lips.
Jan Maas was no nonsense, moving Sam where he wanted and capturing his mouth for just long enough to wind him up. And he would bring Sam  in for a hug after so his tall body swallowed him.
Zorro would start with a hug – also large and safe feeling –  before giving a polite kiss and a friendly clap on the shoulder.
Colin was way too timid to kiss the rest of them like he kissed Michael but he still gave the sweetest little pecks.
Bumbercatch had a way of growling into his mouth which was quite thrilling.
Winchester loved to be dipped.
Beard always put both hands on the side of his neck and pulled away from the kiss with a loud “MUAH!”
Sam always made sure to pick up Will and spin him around.
And Jamie was definitely the best kisser. But that went without saying.
Sam didn’t know what it meant that he had all of these opinions about kissing men. He knew he didn’t want to sleep with them – he didn’t feel the same spark, the same drive, the same fire that consumed him when he was pursuing Rebecca – but he did love them and he did like kissing them and apparently none of the rest of them were straight.
Which was fine! Sam wasn’t being homophobic!
His feelings were just a little complicated.
“It’s simple, right?” Jamie said as Sam spotted him in the weight room on one of their off days. “Men want to kiss you. You want to kiss them. What’s the problem?”
“There isn’t one, I suppose,” Sam answered reluctantly, his hands hovering next to Jamie’s face. “I just kind of feel like everyone’s waiting for me to have sudden gay realization or something. Like I’m a bisexual bomb counting down to detonation.”
“Have you thought about doing some gay shit? Just to see how you feel about it?” Jamie asked, a little breathlessly. “Now that all the lads are gay, I’m sure someone’ll give you a handy. Just so you can know for sure.”
Sam’s face screwed up. “I’m not entirely comfortable with using our teammates for sexual experimentation. I hope you understand.”
“Yeah, fair.” Jamie frowned, grunting slightly at the weight. “I do feel like you’d know by now. You’re around fit footballers all the time. You’re around me all the time. If you don’t want to fuck me , I don’t think you’re queer, mate.”
Sam rolled his eyes. “Jamie, not every queer man wants to sleep with you.”
Jamie scoffed. “Yeah they do. They might not like me, but they do want to fuck me. Hate fucking is still fucking.”
Sam laughed. “I wish they could bottle your confidence, Jamie.”
“They bottle Lynx. It’s basically the same thing.” Jamie set the bar back on the stand and pulled himself to sitting, turning to grin at Sam. “Anyway, wish I could help you more. My bomb popped early.” He shrugged. “Fit footballers, like I said.”
Sam grinned, taking the plates off the bar to bring it to his own weight. “Like that poster of Roy in your room?”
Jamie groaned. “Why does everyone know about that?” He ran a hand down his face and sighed. “I will get him.”
“Get him?”
“Kiss him, like,” Jamie answered. “Been dreaming about it since I was a lad, haven’t I? Never had a chance like this.”
“You don’t have a chance now ,” Sam reminded him. “He’s not in on this.”
“We got Captain!” Jamie answered back. “We can get Coach.”
That was half true. They hadn’t ‘got’ Isaac. He was looped in on their kissing now, though.
Isaac was straight and, unlike Sam, refused to be kissed. Sam hadn’t gotten the whole story because apparently Isaac wasn’t talking but Sam knew enough about being black, being an athlete, and being in England to guess what the problem was. But it still felt weird to leave their captain out of something that had become such a sacred ritual for the team.
They had all found a compromise. After their win against Tottenham, Colin had kissed Isaac on the forehead in celebration. Isaac had looked so touched, so profoundly loved, that all of the rest of the team started doing it, too.
Sam kept kissing him on the nose. He really loved the face Isaac made when he did it. It was important to cherish your captain.
So, they’d kind of gotten Isaac.
“You can try and kiss the coach on the cheek,” Sam offered. “He might headbutt you, though.”
“Nah, he won’t.” Jamie told him, patting the bench and getting up to replace Sam behind the weights. “Not if I make a pretty enough goal.”
Sam was laying on the bench. He looked up to see Jamie’s smirk from below.
“I got it all worked out,” Jamie continued, hiking his shorts further up his thighs as Sam starts his presses. “We’ve just been kissing after matches, yeah? And Coach always runs off and leaves us to it. But if we’re in the middle of a game and I make a sexy goal – like proper beautiful, they’d write songs about it and shit – while we’re all celebratin’ I can trot right up to the sidelines and give him a proper snog.”
Sam grunted, holding the bar at his chest. “Kissing by ambush doesn’t sound very ethical, Jamie.”
Jamie snorts. “I’m not just gonna maul him. I bet I can get him to kiss me . All caught up in the moment like.”
Sam snorts back. “You’re mad.”
“I gotta try . Gotta make teenage Jamie proud.”
Sam shook his head, setting the bar back on the rest as he finished his set. “Bet you a hundred pounds.”
“Nah, fuck that. If I can get this done, I want a free meal at Ola’s.”
Sam blew out a breath, reaching out his hand to shake. “Done. And if I win – if he doesn’t kiss you by the end of the season –  you’re bringing in the whole team and paying for everyone.”
“Definitely,” Jamie clasped his hand and shook it. “Because I’m not gonna lose. And now you’re gonna be financin’ mine and Roy’s first date.”
Sam held up his hands “If you say so. It’s already unlikely he’ll kiss you but date you?”
“Man, fuck off.” Jamie laughed, shoving him.
Sam laughed and shoved back.
“What are we laughing about,” Colin asked, smiling already.
“Hey, Colin, between us: you do want to fuck me, right?” Jamie asked. “Sam’s trying to tell me that not all queer lads want to fuck me but I know that’s wrong.”
“Well I can’t speak for everyone but me, yeah.” Colin shrugged as Jamie grinned and gestured at Sam like ‘see?’. “You are actually on my hall pass list.”
“See, I knew it!” Jamie huffed a breath like he was glad to have that settled. “We won’t be fucking, Colin, sorry to say. I’ve got bigger fish, you get it.”
“What, like Roy?” Colin grinned and Sam laughed at Jamie’s expression. “No offense taken. He’s a bit scary for me but certainly a big fish.”
“Right, fuck you both.” But Jamie still helped Sam finish his weights.
When it did happen, it happened almost exactly as Jamie said.
Jamie made an absolutely filthy goal. And it was a hat trick. And it won them the match.
And Sam had to watch as Jamie charged the sidelines and stopped directly in front of the manager, arms spread and head cocked. He couldn’t see Jamie’s face but he could see Roy’s. He saw how Roy rolled his eyes, his mouth set in that annoyed smile Sam had only ever seen him use when Jamie was being a prick. He reached one hand into Jamie’s hair, his fingers clutching at it, and the other moved up to cup his jaw as he moved in to kiss Jamie.
Sam swore, loudly and enthusiastically, as the rest of the team hooted and hollered, hats raining down on the pitch.
Jamie ran back on the pitch, cheeks high with color and hair an absolute tragedy. His grin was nothing short of euphoric.
“How’s teenage Jamie doing?” Sam asked him.
“He’s fuckin’ great!” Jamie told him. “Let’s finish this fucking match.”
They ran down the clock, playing very silly but very strong for the final twenty seconds of added time.
Jamie all but tackled Sam when the buzzer sounded, lifting him up by his collar and kissing him soundly. Sam laughed and gripped Jamie’s shoulder to steady himself as he kissed back.
“So Ola’s at 6 tomorrow, yeah?” Jamie asked him after he pulled away.
Sam laughed, shoving at his face.
Other players descended on them, yanking them to their feet and into kisses.
They were lucky this was a match at home so they could all pour into their dressing room and scream their heads off without having to worry about catching the bus home. Cries of Richmond Til We Die permeated the air, inside and still out in the stands.
When everything had calmed down and people were making plans for how to celebrate, Jan Maas called across the locker room. “So, Coach, do we need to get a hat trick for you to kiss us or is that just for Jamie?”
The surrounding players ‘Ooohed’ and laughed as Jamie went red, elated smile still spread.
“That was a special exception,” Roy told them, not quite masking his own smile. “Tartt was asking for it.”
Louder ‘ooh’s’ and a couple wolf whistles went up.
“No! Fuck off!” Roy yelled at them. “I’m not kissing any more players. Stay the fuck out of my business.”
He turned to Sam. “And I want those fried plantain things tomorrow, alright? Cheers.” And then he turned and walked into his office, closing the door behind him.
Sam turned to Jamie, flabbergasted. “Did you tell him already?”
“Maybe,” Jamie grinned, shrugging. “Had to try.”
“You are a miracle, Jamie Tartt.”
Jamie shoved at him as they continued changing.
They all agreed to meet at Colin’s for a boy’s night of beer and Fifa to celebrate their win. Sam walked out to the car park with Jamie, the two of them riding over in Zorro’s jeep.
Sam turned to Jamie as they reached the car, waiting for the rest of the team to join them.
“If you and Roy start dating seriously – which I would support you in, of course – would that mean we’d have to stop kissing after games?”
“Mate, never ,” Jamie told him, looking horrified that Sam had even suggested it. “Roy knows that the lads come first.”
“Good,” Sam said, releasing a sigh of relief bigger than he thought it would be. “I think I’m definitely still straight. But to have to stop kissing you would break my heart I think.”
“Aw, Sammy boy,” Jamie slung an arm around Sam’s shoulders, pulling his head down to press their foreheads together. “I told you, didn’t I? A good kiss can change your life.”

Was thinking about the layers that the universal nation language thing adds again. I know a lot of people have already talked about their feelings about this aspect of Hetalia, but I'm gonna go ahead and talk about it again because I want to.
Tbh, the more I think about it the more I love it for a bunch of reasons, but I was specific thinking recently about it in the context of USJP (because I have the brainrot) and HNNNGg
Having that universal language allows you to put meaning behind certain choices made within your own fan works or in the way you interpret canon? And my absolute favorite example of this applied is with America and Japan at the end of Japan's isolation.
Here's the thing: The universal language is canon. It's also canon that, when the Black Ships came, Japan had a translator between them when he spoke to America for the first time.
What a move!!!
Now, look, I know this scene is generally just played for laughs with miscommunications presenting America as a pervert and all, but it would not be a Hetalia post if I didn't insert way too much meaning into a couple of panels from a gag manga, SO -
This man shows up at Japan's door with coal-powered warships to force him out of two hundred years of isolation, and they both know they can understand one another.
But Japan insists on a translator anyway. And America agrees. Why?
For Japan, it reflects his wariness to even consider the terms being offered, but it is also a test of America (and his government's) intentions. They say they want mutually beneficial trade agreements (of course while asking for preferential terms, as would lkely be expected for such a negotiation) but Japan knows he and his government are sitting at a considerable disadvantage. It's important to know how much of this proposed cooperation is being extended in good faith.
So he sets a condition to their meeting that they both know is unnecessary from a practical standpoint.
If America intends to negotiate, their representative will accept this condition as a show of good faith. If they don't, and he refuses, that shows Japan where they really view themselves in this negotiation and how much he and his government can trust them.
Now, if you'll indulge me reaching even farther into speculation about the way the canon universe functions... It's made pretty clear at various points I'm canon that the amount of influence a nation has on their government and the respect their bosses hold for them varies a lot between nations and over time.
So! With that in mind, the authority with which America acts in their personal discussions/negotiations will also tell Japan whether he is truly considered to be representative of his country or if he is merely a figurative representation positioned in servitude to his bosses and trotted out as a matter of formality and show.
America's reaction to the condition of speaking through a translator, which again, they both know is completely unnecessary, can give Japan (who will need to bring this back to his bosses) vital information to help him decide whether he is truly approaching the possibility of real negotiations with a fellow nation and his government, or if this is simply establishing a pretext for the invasion that is already coming.
how is that not cool as fuck
One of the things I love about this canon is that it is, for the most part, dumb jokes about a bunch of idiots, but there's so much to play with and run away with and I don't think we always appreciate what fertile ground we really have here.

I think a lot of people who aren’t in the raggedy fandom or are just getting into the fandom may be a bit confused why so many of us headcanon Raggedy Andy as trans, so I decided to compile all the more heavily transcoded traits from across adaptations that fans use to justify their headcanons, plus some stuff I noticed on my own that I decided to add here.
Please note that I am in no way saying that trans/gnc headcanons NEED ‘evidence’ to be considered valid, or that Johnny Gruelle himself created Raggedy Andy with a trans man in mind. I just thought it would be helpful to have a little database of sorts for those who are first encountering this headcanon, and just in general to bounce ideas around that some may find representative of themselves and their experiences. Also, I’m trans, so I’m gonna make every male character in fiction trans too :p
I present to you… Trans Raggedy Andy™️
starting off with his design, andy has eyelashes, a trait commonly associated with female characters. note how other male dolls like clem, henny, and cleety the clown do not have this trait. (clem does have eyelashes in some illustrations, but their design is already EXTREMELY inconsistent lol)
andy’s hair in the early illustrations and dolls is very choppy and uneven, implying that he may have cut it himself. you could make the argument that ann or bessie (andy’s original owner) cut his hair for him, but let’s be honest, it probably would’ve looked a lot more neat and well layered than his current hairdo lmao
andy's arms are very large and disproportionate compared to ann's, which are very slim and feminine. perhaps andy stuffed them himself to give the illusion of muscles?
on the topic of andy's arms, in the books and some of the dolls and animated adaptations, his arm fabric is white, just like ann's. this isn't an issue at a glance; it was mostly likely an homage to ann and andy's design inspiration of scarecrows and clowns, which both typically wear gloves (moreso clowns with their signature white gloves). however, if we assume that raggedy ann stories takes place in 1918 (as that was the year it was published), and the beginning introduction states that ann is physically 59 years old, with andy being sewn a day or two afterwards according to raggedy andy stories, then both ann and andy were sewn in 1859. thing is, andy's outfit is sort of a mismash of contemporary fisherman/sailor attire, and fishermen/sailors didn't typically wear gloves back in those days, and even today. however, plenty of women, especially those of higher classes, wore gloves as a sign of neatness and status. granted, ann's attire seems to be more rural, but if, say, you were a working class woman in the mid 19th century, chances are you'd wear gloves at least some point. or maybe marcella's great-grandma/bessie's mom just used whatever scraps of fabric they had
compared to ann's clothes, andy's clothes are a lot more modern (at least for the time period) and put together, with buttons and bowties galore. sure, bessie's mom could've just had those trinkets lying around, but considering the letter at the start of raggedy andy stories states that bessie and marcella's grandma lived next door with no fence, they were most likely lower class. personally, i like the idea of that ann made andy's current clothes herself :) maybe, with the civil war in america going on around the same time, ann might've based his clothes off of some of the sailors from that time...
in many of the adaptations, most notably the 1977 movie and the 1986 broadway musical, andy's arc usually revolves around him trying to prove himself, mostly by asserting himself to be as masculine as possible. one could argue that this is just a classic case of toxic masculinity, and while that could be a byproduct of his behavior, we do see him show sympathy and compassion for others, especially his sister. this indicates, to me at least, that andy's yearning to break away from others' expectations of him and be the strong, tough, and terrific boy he is is an internal conflict rather than an external one.
ill admit this is a bit more farfetched, but andy's voice does kinda sound like someone going through hrt, where the voice is in that awkward state of sounding more like a teenage boy as it slowly deepens with increased doses. (note that i havent gone on hrt yet; im mostly basing this off some of the things that my friend who has been through hrt has relayed onto me) if you listen to the 1977 movie, 1986 musical, and even the chuck jones specials, andy's voice definitely gives off that vibe (at least to me). then again, that may just be a result of the rag dolls being ageless, or the writers not knowing whether they wants the dolls to be minors or adults.
no girl's toy. yeah.
finally, ann and andy look basically identical, especially looking at them from the back view. heck, you can't even tell some of the dolls apart without their clothes on. this most likely indicates that bessie specifically wanted a doll that looked like marcella's grandma's, so that they could play with them as sisters and all that. it's also more common for kids with toys that share the same gender as them (though not all the time, of course), and boy dolls were almost always love interests for the girl dolls back then. even in the raggedy andy stories letter from earlier, johnny's mom (who, considering marcella was directly based off of johnny's own daughter, is most likely marcella's grandma in this context) even states that andy would sometimes be dressed in girl clothes when she and bessie wanted him to be ann's sister on that particular day. while that definitely makes me feel bad for andy if this is after his transition, marcella's grandma is also an old lady at this point, so it's very possible she could be misremembering, or perhaps she didn't want to confuse her son by saying her friend's girl doll magically turned into a boy doll one day. trans people were almost unheard of back then, after all, even though the concept of being trans has existed for thousands of years.
yup. that's the tea. this ended up being WAY longer than i originally intended, so i apologize for that... hopefully ive explained myself the best i could. tldr; raggedy andy has been trans since forever im sorry :(

I feel like Orlox is quite underappreciated. If you count the shit he went though the first season alone, him killing Richters mother doesn't really make him that much of a villian. He probably is going to get enough beat downs from Erzabeth that he is going to be redeemed 10 times over, considering how she treats him as a pet and probably will do it again and again. I like anything that has to do with snakes, and considering that he literally turns into snake looking quetzalcoatl is even better. I just hope he won't loose another lover. There is already enough stress on the poor man. Protect him~
PROTECT HIM!!! Also you're so right, I don't even see him as much of a villain? He became an antihero for me, I'm such an apologist for him I'm not that mad about him killing Richter's mom lmao. I think their interactions and possibly having to work together more in the future is going to be super interesting.
The fact that Erzebet and Drolta had the absolute GALL to look at an Aztec/Mexica vampire who lived through the genocide and colonization of his people by the spanish, and try and sell them on their plan by telling him that he'd be their "guide to conquering the americas" and "we'll make a new world". LIKE?? It's almost funny the disconnect they have, and and how Olrox just lets them talk and assume what they want about him.
Olrox has more reason to kill Erzebet then anyone else in the series. It speaks so much to his character that he had so much cool control over his emotions with her and Drolta. That the most emotional we see him act is when Mizrak is threatened.
He's seen the spanish kill millions of his people. He lost his true love to a vampire hunter. You can tell that staying cool and analytical is a skill he's developed to survive. Waiting, observing, staying safe in the shadows. But then Mizrak shows up, reminds him of his lost love, and Olrox can't relive losing him again.
I absolutely adore characters (especially villainous or morally grey ones) whose greatest weakness/soft spot is love. I also love how he parallel's Dracula from the original show that way, and really like how we start off thinking he's going to be the Big Bad of the series, but he ends up being so sympathetic and having his goals align with our heroes.
I'm so scared of Erzebet knowing now that Olrox betrayed her to save Mizrak. If that happens and he gets put in danger I'm gonna go insane. MIZRAK YOU BETTER SAVE HIM BACK!!
I think it would be super cathartic and fun if either:
Olrox actually is a God. He ends up actually being Quetzalcoatl like how Erzebet becomes Sekmet. He's carrying a lost religion of a people who were murdered and colonized around with him always, when so few are around to remember him. And it can explain some of his interest in Mizrak and his faith, and some of his insider knowledge and lines about God and demons.
He keeps his cool and bides his time, working from the shadows, but when the heroes need him most he kills Erzebet. I want to see him get vengence on her for everything she represents and get to be really spooky about it.
Honestly wherever the writers go with him, there's so many good options it feels hard to go wrong. He's set up so well. I really want to know more about how he was turned. Also about his Mohican lover and how Richter's mom ended up killing him.
ALSO YESS I LOVE SNAKES TOO AND HIS QUETZALCOATL FORM..... he's so cool and pretty.... snek man...... I HOPE WE SEE MORE OF THIS FORM TOO

I want to go on a rant about Mexican representation and I am. (I did this once I cooled down, but it'll probably get heated later on)
So, here's the deal, representation, it's fine, no? It's cool, it's great, it's amazing. It's something everyone wants. To be able to see someone like him in the big screens. So why, if everyone's screaming for representation of all kinds, the representation we are given is either equal to none or really bad?
Now, I'm not saying this in a mean way (I kinda am) but, it's annoying. It really is. The Mexican characters that we have are bad. Like really bad. And hey, I should he glad there even is. Even just, latino American in general.
Look at the MCU, there's Asian main characters, there's black main characters, there's white main characters obviously, there's even European main characters I believe. And they're well represented. But I haven't seen one Mexican main character that you look at them and you tell yourself as a Mexican, they're like me. Okay, there's America Chavez and Miguel O'Hara. But have you seen them? Have you seen how they're written?
My main rant here is about Miguel. In one of the most well written movies, in one of the most representative movies, in one of the best animated movies or our generation, the one Mexican character is written like an animal. Like a deranged man that's pursuing a kid because he doesn't like him. And that's the way he is perceived.
Yet every single other character in there, is well represented and well written. Every black people in that movie has a personality that makes you see them as black. Hobie? He's got a reason to be like he is, and that has to see with him being black, and he has a bottom, a personality. Miles? I'm not even gonna say it, he's the main character. Jessica? She's written as what she is. Spider byte? She's written as a black woman, in the little time she's shown. But Miguel? He's written as an animal. As a bottomless dehumanized animal.
He's the only Mexican guy we get and part of the little Latino characters we get. And he's written like a fucking animal. He's not written like a villain with a reason to be. He's written as a persecutor that does this because he feels like it. The worst part is that he's got a reason. But it's shown for so little time and so overlooked that it just, doesn't matter. And I'm not saying he's right, far from it, there's other ways to go about what he's trying to do. But to him, this things have a meaning. Yet everyone overlooks it to go for the fact that he's attacking a child. And why? Because he's shown as an animal.
And don't come to me with the "oh but he's half spider". And? So are the other spidermans and they're not written as a beast. They're not dehumanized to the point where all that you see when you look at that character is the way he is agressive.
He's lost his daughter, twice, and to a mistake he made. He took his daughter's life because he wanted her back, yet no one, no one, is taking a look at that. No one is caring about his reason, only about what he did. Yet to every other MCU villain, that have got a good reason, (like Loki, Namor, who's very well written, red skull, etc) people look at it. People think about it. And we're being reminded of it.
But in every piece of media I see about Miguel that isn't some horny piece of fanfiction, (no offense) the only thing people keep bringing back is his hatred for miles. His aggressiveness. To Gwen too. And the worst part is that I don't blame the people that consume or create that media. I Blake the writers of the movie.
It's extremely well written. A masterpiece from the eyes of an artist and a writer. But Miguel? His writing feels so lazy, so not there. Not even Peter's feels bad, he just feels neglectful. Miguel's writing, as one of the main villains of the movie is soo... Plain. To me, every other character has depth except him. And it bothers me.
Now, moving on onto any other well consumed movie. Mexicans are either extremely stereotyped, or represented as something related to drug. And that's all. I haven't seen one "normal" Mexican character.
Not even America Chavez, she's written as a white girl, and it feels to me. She's meant to be Mexican but there's no effort put into it. There's no effort put into writing actually good Mexican characters in American media. And don't get me started on French media. And the worst part is that these people aren't like that in the comics. They're well written there, represented as what they are!
I mean, if DC can do it with blue beetle, (a very well written Mexican movie. Just in the cultural aspect, I'm not going to judge the movie in itself) then marvel can surely do it with anyone else. Like, put some effort into it, please. It's the same effort you put into written good black and Asian characters. Write good latino characters, please.
It's not that hard. It really isn't. If fanfiction authors can write better foreign characters than a professional, it means they're capable of doing it. And it means there's a problem there. And it hurts, because I'm not even asking you to write about something controversial, or about a woman. I'm asking you to put some effort into a typical male character and nor write it as a beast or a white guy. You can do it and I know it. And if you can't? Find someone that can or just, don't then. Because I'd rather not being represented than for people to think every one of us is like that. And agressive, drug related, brown man.
Another example I have is Percy Jackson. They made the effort of turning typically represented white gods, Greek gods, into a black god. And a white character into a black character. And then there's groover, that I don't remember if he was brown, but it fits. There's almost every community in there. Yet, no latino character. Not even in the background. Like, if you're gonna make a Greek god black for representation, you can do it for other minorities. Anyone. Not just Percy Jackson.
And again, I'm not even asking to write or represented queer or genderqueer people, you won't loose money from making a well written latino character.
Because then, it bleeds into society, and when I moved to my current country, I lived for seven years with the racism of being a foreign person in a country that consumes American media and doesn't know much about us, other than we're criminals and eat tacos in a basis and are some kind of witch or weird person. And for someone as young as little me, and as different as little me, it just hurts that you're discriminated for something so normal as to where you were born. Because the only thing they know about my country is the bad representation media chose to do. Like they did with black people. And now it's changed, so why can't it for us to?
So yeah, it makes me mad to not be able to see someone like me without thinking, why the others get a well written deep character and I get some kind of beast that hurts children with an overlooked reason. Because the movie chose to overlook it. Because the people chose to overlook it.
I want to clarify, my views in this are mostly oriented on the MCU and Sony's spider verse movies.

Hello! Really love your content so far and it makes me so incredibly happy seeing more people reimagining Alfred and Matthew as nonwhite compared to it being controversial 8years ago.
Ever since I joined the fandom I always had the (at the time) unpopular opinion that the NA bros were from mixed heritages (White/Indigenous), which as an American non-white Latino with Indigenous roots made the most sense to me especially considering that even in the manga they don't really represent the government, but the people themselves and both countries (especially the US) are so diverse it absolutely baffled me that they were just plain white boys. I always imagined them being mixed, but never quite fitting in with either groups.
I am sorry if I overstep on this next bit, please feel free to correct me on anything I say, I've just had a long time to think about this and how other countries would react, which is gonna put England/France into a bad light but...they were straight up horrific to the Natives. Even France.
I know you mentioned how in Hetalia, the personifications get along with their overseers/colonizers and that they wouldn't be okay with this, and I think I may have to *slightly* disagree.
I think when it comes to Nations and how they view their fellow personifications, how they look won't matter as much compared to how they act or culture wise. I can see that while the two heavily resemble Native features, when they were taken in by their colonizers they were raised to hold to those same European values that still do plague the country today. I can imagine Arthur making sure that Alfred ignores his Indigenous roots and that he's raised as a proper British colony, speaking and writing in English only, being raised as a proper Christian etc. Forced to assimilate, which has been done to so many people that come from different cultures from the time America was colonized to even now in some places. They may not look completely white, but by god will he makes sure they act like they do.
I don't think he would have ever been okay with his people being killed, tortured, having their cultures and languages erased or even enslaved, because he does not represent the cruel ideas the government has, but the people itself...which also do include the people that *ARE* okay with this. A constant battle Alfred has to deal with, which ends up with him making not the best choices.
Things aren't perfect even today, there's still so many issues that's happening where Indigenous folks are still fighting for basic rights to water, working roads, etc. But at the current time, more Americans these days (especially the much younger generations that were taught/look up about the atrocities that our government has committed, especially now that the Native voices have platforms to speak on), are much more aware. I see the brothers trying to reclaim their roots, and start what will be centuries long reparations on what their people have done to the Indigenous community. Which honestly, reconnecting with cultures after being forced to assimilate to American culture is something big thats happening here all across the United States with Latino-Americans embracing their heritage, African-Americans who were descendents of those stolen from their homeland reconnecting with their culture, Indigenous people bringing their languages and foods back to light.
It's honestly just a very difficult journey I think they would have as they have to deal with Nationhood, but forgetting who they came from and having to give themselves up to a certain group. Again, never fitting in completely with one or the other.
Again, I'm so incredibly sorry if this is overstepping in anyway or if some things don't make sense. It's such a complicated subject that really can't be summed up super easily and I did want to go longer but I felt like this was long enough already @_@
Firstly, you are not overstepping in the slightest! I am legitimately so content and kind of misty-eyed to see so many other native fans of the show both interact within the fandom and give their own interpretation on both canon and OC characters. It was never this wholesome and community-oriented when I first joined the fandom and I'm glad I stuck around to see the tide change.
Secondly, your interpretation of France and England's involvement in Canada and America's assimilation is... very accurate, and while it's something I've fought about with myself in my plotting of Alfred's life (because I don't want to hate them lol), they most definitely did have a hand in his disconnection. However, as much as I agree they are influenced by both their natives and settlers, I do think they very much hold their own reservations and opinions on the social climate around them as any individual human being would.
While American society and most American presidents were anti-indigenous and pro-slavery, there were also vigilant indigenous activists and abolitionists; there were men and women who defended and engrained themselves with native communities and there were men and women who fought mercilessly to free enslaved people. I believe Alfred was one of those people. Alfred noticed the wrong within the society around him and despised it-- but alongside his overseers and the people surrounding him, his thought process was in the minority.
I don't see Alfred participating in the genocide, assimilation, or enslavement of indigenous or Black people-- and it is not because I wish to sanitize this true history, but because I earnestly do not see Alfred being so cruel (as he was someone who also thought himself a better person than his brutal fatherly figure). I do think he did try to feel indifferent most of the time to... well, assimilate, but I also like to think he was infuriated, enraged, while at the same time having convictions on where his help is best suited as a native man with the privileges and appearance of a white man (I hc that he very consciously slaughtered slave-owners and triple k members, especially during the civil war, but I realize that may be a heavy hc to have).
I appreciate you bringing up the increase of younger folks in America beginning their decolonization/reconnection journeys because that is absolutely what I feel Al and Matt are going through actively, but I like to think they began their reconnection journey much earlier, during the rise of AIM in the 1970s. I see them being the biggest activists for all their native communities and they help in every possible way they can. Not only because they want to reconnect and amend their mistakes, but because they altruistically care for their people.
Their hobbies absolutely include remodeling the homes of elders and delivering food to them. They are very much for the landback movement and will call out anti-indigenous sentiment without hesitation. I also think Alfred separates himself from his governmental supervisors in current day and will challenge them now compared to when he stayed relatively compliant as a young nation.
I still have SO MANY theories about Alfred and Matt's origins and experiences with assimilation that I am working out, but I want to carefully plot it all out so as to not trivialize legitimate indigenous trauma, especially as a reconnector. All I can say is that if the land I stand on had a personification, it would be an indigenous being, no question.

My Season 16 Episode Summary "Predictions" as of the trailer release
Here we go, I'm gonna piece together what we know from BTS and the trailers and try and connect a few dots for my own "episode summaries", starting with what we know the most about:
1605 - "The Gang Goes Bowling": Dee puts together a girls' bowling team comprising of herself, Artemis, The Waitress, and Gail the Snail. The Guys (probably inviting themselves) bowl along side them, making everything a competition. The competition seems to move to the arcade at some point (and Dennis breaks his hand). The McPoyles work at (or own) the venue. There's slow-mo shots used and a flashback (as confirmed on TASP). Flashback is likely to some point between 1987-1990 and takes place at the same venue/arcade and a children's party room there. Guest starring Leo McElhenney (and based on, yk, familial relations, he's likely playing a young Mac). Also, Chili cheese fries.
"Bar Rescue: Paddy's Pub" / the MITM Episode: Paddy's is asked to be featured on the reality show (or some kind of similar show) Bar Rescue. The Gang are hesitant to get involved, as they're worried they'll come off looking like assholes/dumb (as they are) but are convinced with the draw of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul being involved with Dos Hombres Mezcal. Frank goes business man, with Charlie acting as his lackey and driver. Charlie mostly wants to be involved because he's convinced they're Hal and Malcolm. Mac and Dennis are trying their hardest to make Paddys look classy/impressive, acting as Hugh Honey and Vic Vinegar (the rich gay couple) who own Paddy's.
"The Gang Learn About Inflation": Frank discovers there's a toilet in Charlie's apartment. This turns to a fight/conversation about their living conditions/rent and the current increased cost of living. On a similar issue, Dee is dealing with rent control (in some way or another). Mac and Dennis are back to being stupid about things, and Frank tries to teach them about inflation. Somehow, inflatable objects get involved and subsequently run over.
1601 - "D.E.N.N.I.S System: Guys Edition": Dee and Mac are both embarrassing the shit out of themselves in the dating pool, and Dennis steps up to teach them what he knows. He gives them a lesson on the D.E.N.N.I.S System, revised to now work on men. Dee's date is absolutely horrible. Mac's is just as bad when he ends up having some kind of allergic reaction. (Frank/Charlie Plot tbd or as follows:)
"Charlie in his Americas/ US-Russia Relations": Charlie and Frank take a trip to Old Lady House and meet/celebrate Charlie's Sisters birthdays (ft. Uncle Jack). While there, they watch something on the TV that's Russian-US related and something happens that has the two of them go full-send invested in representing/supporting America and storming some kind of Russia UN building. This naturally turns into Frank firing his guns.
If this isn't 1601, This might be the same episode as...
"Poppins Dies": Mac's dog dying spurs a visit from Chase Utley, Animal Rights activist, and the two finally get to have a catch (albeit at the pet cemetery...)
"Dee Fights for Gender Equality": The Gang are in the car together. Charlie and Mac (and Frank?) go over to their moms' house where Bonnie injures herself. Dee is somehow involving herself in men's hockey, and fighting for the right for women to be involved. Gritty makes an appearance. Meanwhile Dennis is dealing with his own mental health. Almost certain this is when he takes a trip to a building and is doing squats out the front, holding a trash bag.
Still on the docket, not sure where or how to insert these at this point:
Beach episode or multiple scenes at the beach
Rickety Cricket
Dee and Frank break into a house
Asian Market

Hey, um, I'm not sure if you'll answer this but I want to ask for you opinion. I don't know if you've seen the news that like 4 artists have cut contact with scooter and he's no longer their manager? I'm not even sure if it's really real or not but even if it's fake news it just makes me anxious. First of all it's really scary how everyone keeps dropping him... and so suddenly? He either did something really fucked up or he's retiring or something which I do not think. I literally don't know anything about him aside from the bad things he did to artists but he doesn't seem like he wants to retire now... Which brings me to my second concern which is Jungkook and the tannies. I'm gonna be honest, Seven is good but I just couldn't fully enjoy this era knowing that he had a part in it. And that might be not fair to Jungkook or I need to not think like that but I do, I'm sorry. And I'm just really weirded out right now because I don't want him to have a bigger control over Jungkook or any of the other tannies. I hate that he's in hybe at all, I hate that he's working with Jungkook, I hate that it seems like he will be a big part of his album as well. I just wish they don't do anything with him. But now that he lost a bunch of artists (or clients), I'm a little bit afraid he might get bigger control over the tannies, since he's in america and it's important they keep promoting over there. And honestly a third thing? We already knew he is a bad person but if something else comes out regarding the artists who have left recently, and it turns out he's even a bigger asshole, then I know, I know, deranged kpop fans will jump on Jungkook just to drag him for something he had no part in. And I'm already tired of that. So yeah... Am I just paranoid? I respect their decision if they want to work with him in the future, I just won't like it but that's just my personal preference and business. It's just weird what's happening right now and I don't want it to eventually be blamed on the tannies somehow.
Yes, anon, you are being paranoid. There are some things to remember:
The agency that Jungkook, the other members and BTS belong to is BigHit. Bighit is a private agency and separate from HYBE although technically it belongs to HYBE. As it is a private agency, hybe has no power over bighit and its artists, which includes all hybe subsidiaries including hybe america to which Scooter is linked. BigHit has full control of its artists.
Scooter was closely involved in Seven because he is Andrew Watt's manager, the producer of the song. Obviously, he saw the opportunity for clout because it was Jungkook but he has no power over Jungkook. He has no decision-making power, no management power etc., over Jungkook or BTS. Yes, he is part of HYBE America and Jungkook is part of HYBE technically but they are two different things. So there is no need to worry.
If Jungkook or any other member or the group in general "works" with Scooter it is because they are most likely working with one of the artists he represents and that way they can't avoid it. Scooter has been seen with Bang PD because they are representing HYBE and HYBE America, nothing else. As long as the guys are under BigHit, Scooter can't touch them unless they allow it.
It's funny how all this is something that many simply chose to forget when accusing Jungkook of a myriad of stupidities.

Watching Castlevania: Nocturne and Olrox is about to give me a stroke— unstructured rant incoming (spoilers I guess for up to episode 4)
Brother why have they stuck you in a suit. Why is your name Olrox. In what world does this even sound like Nahuatl (if we were doing that shouldn’t the X be pronounced like an sh??). Yes I know they took it from the games but come onnnnnnnn
Like I appreciate the amount of detail in Anette’s connection to the Orisha, which I also know is imperfect. But idk, I’m holding out hope that this Quetzalcoatl mf will get some more time to shine. I want him to go crazy go stupid on any Spaniard he sees (Fuck Cortés!). I did like his line about gods and demons and how gods still hold power even if the church doesn’t call them that, but I also have to squint at it because the neopaganism is poppin’ recently and you gotta watch out.
Praying that this isn’t just Black Panther 2 all over again where Mesoamerican religious identity is just pancaked into a mush of “lol what’s the difference between Maya and Aztec?? What do you mean there’s other people in Central America???” They get some points for not making him like, Huitzilopochtli tho, but I would argue that if you wanna be specifically Aztec and not go for that Pan-Mesoamerican soup he probably would have been a better choice because the Mexica that would go on to become the aztecs did care about Huitzilopochtli a lot more than everyone else did. Quetzalcoatl is a good representative if you wanna just embody postcolonial Mesoamerican rage, but I will sit here and stew about it because man we really get nothing that even tries a little and I am worried about him.
Anyway I’m gonna tinker with his character design because this besuitted twunk is getting on my nerves. I want to see notes from whoever designed him. What was that room like I just wanna know
