Very distressing to hear about the writer’s strike. A) because it’s hard to see creatives continuously punished for pursuing a career they love and B) because, over the course of the pandemic, TV has become a source of comfort and inspiration for many people. Within the past couple years there have been a lot of wonderful shows that have come out and a significant portion that are not only good but also enacting change. Major companies producing shows like Our Flag Means Death, The Owl House, Abbott Elementary, etc. is so important for the culture and representation. It’s going to be so hard to hear about the oncoming cancellations (stay strong s&b fans for s3/SoC spin-off) but it’s been even more depressing about all the underpaid artists still struggling when media has become such an integral part of society. Whether it be animators, set designers, costume designers, story-boarders, composers, painters, illustrators, writers — ALL of these people make the shows we love possible and, more than that, meaningful (magical and all the other cheesy nice adjectives).

Just thought this was meaningful to say since this platform is primarily for celebrating media and fandoms. No matter how much or little you want or can be involved in the situation, awareness is always significant

This was originally just supposed to be me having fun exploring what Ephemer would be like as a teacher but it got a bit out of hand in a good way (but I think I spent way too long on this lol)

Notes:

I wholeheartedly believe that teaching is Eph’s true passion. While writing Overmorrow, I came to realize that his role as a teacher/master is necessary in ensuring that light and the will of the keyblade lives on, but it’s also something he would just genuinely enjoy doing on a personal level. Aside from being able to infodump to his heart’s content (that’s a big deal! 😄), he can also help, inspire, and lead as a teacher! I think if he does actually establish the Keyblade order/academy in canon, it would be his pride and joy

Eph’s actual classroom may not have looked like kh3/dr’s, but I like to believe it was probably similarly designed. (He learned a lot about teaching from Hestia 🥰)

I feel like what hurts me most about Sparrow being all “I’m not proud of you” isn’t that he said it, cause I could already kinda guess that from the first scene.

It’s just that normal doesn’t seem to have had any inclination of it prior. Like, to him that’s just his dad being his dad. Not his dad trying to nudge him into being more normal.

And that’s exactly why Normal believes his dad hates him (at least in my mind). Cause as humans we are built to remember the bad as a way of survival, and normal probably can only think about the times he’s seen his dad cringe and how he’s so stupid for just thinking his dad was worried (even if he was worried and not in fact cringing.) like every memory gets corrupted with this new realization. When Teeny won the mascot contest was your dad actually smiling at how happy you were or was he just avoiding a scene, Did he actually enjoy watching those anime movies with you and hero when you were little or are you misremembering, was your uncle trying to warn you that you shouldn’t trust when your dad says he loves you, and so on and so on.

I have what’s going to be a really unpopular take but please just hear me out. Lately a lot of fellow Jewish bloggers on this website have (rightfully!!) been getting annoyed by random people going into their inboxes and asking if they’re Zionist, how they feel about Israel, etc. And I totally empathize with that because I’m an anti-Zionist Jew so I spend a lot of time correcting people’s assumptions that I must support Israel because I’m Jewish. Furthermore, I want Zionism to stop being seen as a central, undeniable part of being Jewish because that makes Jews like me feel pretty unwelcome. And I am aware that those asks often accuse us of dual loyalty, an antisemitic stereotype. So I’m not saying bloggers should have to answer those asks, or that they can’t get mad about them.

However, I think bloggers are wrong when they say that they can’t affect or change what happens in Israel because they’re American Jews (or otherwise diasporic, but it is almost always Americans who say this), not Israeli Jews.

Look. It’s one thing if you just don’t want to get involved (although I am totally judging you). But I can name a billion different ways American Jews have changed things in Israel, and stuff we can do right now! For example:

- protesting our tax dollars paying for weapons and bombs Israel uses to kill Palestinians, by pressuring our elected representatives, senators, and president into taking a stand against Israel

- supporting the Not on Our Dime Act, which is aiming to prohibit tax-deductible donations from being used to fund illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank

- working to change Jewish studies curriculum and summer camp + youth group programming to provide kids and students with more options than just Zionism, and a more complete + less biased education about Israel

- no tech for apartheid: Jewish Google workers protesting against Project Nimbus, which helps the Israeli government with surveillance of Palestinians

- using our position to educate people and make our opinions heard, so we don’t let Jewish Zionist organizations speak for us all and influence what gentiles think about Israel and current-day antisemitism

- I have my own opinions about the recent protests over Netanyahu’s judicial reform, but lots of American Jews supported them and they were definitely effective

- and that’s just a few of the many ways I’ve seen American Jews work towards creating real change in Israel. are we the only ones who can do this? no. but gentiles can’t shape the future of the American Jewish community, which altogether has quite a lot of influence in Israel. only we can do those things.

Saying that as American Jews our voices and actions don’t matter when it comes to Israel is actually such a weak, lame-ass excuse for refusing to take a stance for or against Israel. This isn’t something we get to be neutral about; silence equals support for Zionism.

That being said, I can’t control what individual people do. If you seriously want to refuse to support Palestine, fine. Whatever. Just please stop using “American Jews can’t help anyways!” as your excuse when that’s such a blatantly false claim.

Concept for a non-ttte train face design ?

Being a big fan of humanising machines in general, I’d like to continue doing that with trains without calling back to ttte quite as much (if it’s something unrelated). The main goal here has been trying to differentiate the key features a bit from the general ttte/rws formula:

Added colours around the eyes and eyebrows.

Having the face mostly match the colour of where it’d be placed - in most cases being black (after the radiators or smokeboxes).

It’s not drawn here, but the teeth are also sharper (like how I draw them in a lot of my other art)

Still not certain on the details, but that’s the general direction i’m going for.

I’ve noticed it’s been a lot harder to get the colours right as opposed to with a grey face. Might just be because it’s new for me, but I think it is just a bit trickier to do in general. The method of stylisation seems quite important to how well it turns out.

Here I went for a bit of a weird mix between painting and cell shading/colour blocking? (idk what to call it). If I ever revisit this I’d hope to refine my method somewhat.
