I Procrastinated My College Work

The hermits gathered together in the stands of MCC at their regular spot. They were donned in orange to support their fellow hermits throughout the game, and now the two were in dodgebolt. They had cheered when False and Grian were the last two in survival games and nearly cried of relief when they all got out in Sands of Time. Iskall was analyzing their plays the entire time, intent on coaching them with his Vault Hunters knowledge after the game.

Now, their team was in first, and playing dodgebolt. They were on the edge of their seats, smaller hermits on the shoulders of taller ones. Cleo and Stress were screaming encouragement, Joe and Iskall had no chance of calming the two. Mumbo, Pearl, Scar, and Impulse were holding each other as they watched their fellow boatem member in the same place as last MCC. It had hurt all of them when Grian began to panic, their friend stilling in the middle of the field as yells from other teams and SMPs encouraged him to shoot. They wanted to throw his gong right at his head to calm him down, but outsiders couldn't interfere. The 3v1 got to him in the end; they still cheered on their way home.

The camera each admin held zoomed in on each team member.

And then the first arrow was shot. Illumina immediately went for Grian, who dodged it. Mumbo and Scar screeched, losing their minds at their first moment being so intense already. They watched Grian hand off the arrows, letting the hermit queen take her shot. Mumbo and Scar promply lost it again when False immediately took out Fruitberries. Round one was over in an instance, and they couldn't help but be dissapointed at the loss.

They heard a loud "GO FALSY! HANG IN THERE G-MAN!" from the lower railings. Ren was hanging over the edge, only held back by Hbomb and Martyn. Cub was cheering along with the orange supporters, glancing back and giving a thumbs up to his friends.

The second round started and Iskall swore at False getting shot immediately. They wouldn't lie when they said they agreed she waws an amazing dodgebolt player and pvper. They believed in SB, Pete, and Grian though. They would pull it off.

"Come on G, do it for Boatem!" Impulse yelled.

X joined in. "I'll give you a stack of diamonds if you win this!"

Ren, Cub, False, and Gem quickly spun their heads. X gulped. He didn't have enough diamonds to give all his hermits. Perhaps Evil Ex would trade him some derp coin?

"Bad play, suma." Doc mumbled.

They hadn't even noticed the round was over and their team had won. They would have to watch the replay of the round. The eight players teleported to the arena again, ready for round three.

Grian had been out last every round so far, and they could see he was starting to get stress. They knew he was pushing through it, and saw him grin when SB and Pete took out two of the opposing members right before Vixella shot Grian. They saw him hang over the opposite side, cheering on his teammates. It was a quick game with orange taking charge quick.

Fourth round was a disasster for their friends. Grian missed the first shot and both SB and Pete were out. False was in a 4v1, but she was a crackshot. She could take them out. Then she got tagged, and it was 2-2. It was anyones game.

It was the last round and no one was sure if they were breathing. It was a back and fourth with Vix and False getting eliminated. It seemd to be going slow, and the hermits were hopeful.

And then Pete and SB were shot. Grian stared at the sky and typed into his communicator.

Grian: why me

Grian: why again

It was just like last MCC. Grian was in the deciding 1v3. Every team was now standing, the crowd was completely silent. They could see the occasional team members whispering to themselves. No one was moving an inch. All eyes were on Grian, whose head was down and chest was breathing deeply.

Stay calm, please stay calm. We believe in you.

Grian stared at the other side and raised his bow. He was completely still. His eyes were locked onto Illumina and Fruit. Oh god, they believed in him but this was fruitninja. They were never teamed for a reason.

Fruitberries was tagged by Grian.

The crowd gasped. Xisuma heard a scream that may or may not have been him. Words of disbelief rang out before all was silent as Grian missed the second shot. Hands covered mouths in shock. Zeuz and Illumina took aim and Grian dodged like his life depended on it. He was yelling on the field and they wanted to jump down and shoot the punk players themselves. Every arrow that was shot and missed gave a gasp of horror and disbelief. There hadn't been a dodgebolt as intense as this in so long.

Grian picked up his arrows again and paused. He glared forward, slowly raising his bow. He didn't shoot for a long time, instead opting to patiently wait for his chance. He waited. They saw Sneeg grab Philza, eyes wide and mouth dropped. Grian breathed out.

Illumina was tagged by Grian.

An ear shattering roar erupted. The camera was zoomed in on Grian's face, who was letting lose the second arrow that missed. He turned and sprinted, dodging as Zeuz lined up his first arrow. Again, the crowd was silent. Double screens appeared. One displaying Zeuz's concentrated face, the other Grian's running figure. Grian lept and avoided the arrow not once, but twice. Shock rippled through the crowd.

Grian grabbed the two arrows once again. He shot too fast, they could tell. He wasn't cracking, but the pressure was there. He was so close to a win. He missed and the arrows were in Zeuz's hands. "IT'S SCRIPTED" Was that Wisp?

Grian dodged again. Players and watchers were either grabbing their hair, the railings, or each other. The hermits were afraid one of them was going to get into the battle themselves just to end it. He dodged again. The hermits screamed. They yelled for him to win. They yelled for him to take the crown. Do it for the builders, they said.

All admins cameras were on Grian, only Noxite keeping an eye on Zeuz. No one knew what was going to happen, but they were sure this dodgebolt would go down in history. They watched Grian raise the bow. He pulled back the string. Zeuz jumped forward.

KryticZeuZ was tagged by Grian.

ORANGE OCELOTS TAKE THE CROWN

The scream of relief from Grian could've been heard from Hypixel. The stadium went insane, everyone standing and yelling congradulations. The players were teleported, and the Hermits watched as False and Grian walked forward, donning crowns beneath a spinning coin.

Yep, this was a win for the hermits indeed.

Note

I saw wholesome headcanons, and want to contribute. It is generally accepted that whenever the Hermitgals have a girls event, unless specifically stated otherwise, can go join in. Typically, this means Iskall and Joe tag along to most, with less frequent appearances from X and Ren, but every Hermit has been to one of these events at least once. One of the more commonly told stories is when they went clothes shopping offworld, and Grian and Mumbo came along to get Mumbo a new suit

Things discovered during Hermitcraft girl's night:

- Nailpolish remover does NOT take nailpolish off of metal as well as it does with nails. Thankfully Doc quite liked that shade of red and didn't mind keeping it for a couple months.

- Trying to put eyeliner on Keralis is a lost cause, the man blinks way too often

- Bdubs is scarily good at Monopoly, matched only by Etho

- Cleo isn't allowed to play Twister anymore. Joints don't naturally go that way

- Impulse can tell excellent campfire stories. As much as he usually likes to fade into the background, he is excellent at holding people's attention with a ghost story or anecdote when he wants to

- Zedaph's hair is amazing. That's all. It's smooth, it detangles easily, it's shiny, everyone's jealous of it. He says it just goes that way naturally and he doesn't even use any product. Everyone is enraged.

- Dares are a fun yet dangerous activity to start, since so many of the Hermits have a competitive streak. Heaven help us all if False, Iskall, Doc, and Impulse get into a feedback loop of increasingly insane dares

- Xisuma doesn't like having stickers put on his helmet for safety reasons (don't do that! It hides cracks and keeps you from noticing if the structure is damaged!)

- However, he is fine with having his helmets drawn on in temporary marker

- Dramatic poetry readings are a service Joe is ready and willing to provide

- Even more dramatic imitations of Joe's dramatic poetry readings are a service Iskall is ready and willing to provide

- Satirical imitations of Iskall's even more dramatic imitations of Joe's dramatic poetry readings are a service that Joe is ready and willing to - you get the idea

- TFC's beard is excellent for braiding. He especially likes it if you put beads in it.

producer!grian / production AU ramblings, cw: unreality & angst

(quick context: the AU where 3rd Life is a server set up to be streamed for entertainment around other servers, with its members (minus grian) memory wiped/kidnapped to be in it - drabbles here, tag here and here)

Grian says this, assuming, knowing Mumbo is watching. the Hermits crowded in front of a viewing screen Xisuma set up, as they all try to find a way to get them out of this cruel joke of a game. False and Doc are arguing over Ren as they always are these days, having a screaming match over the others resigned quiet.

"He's using his crown, the one he won with me- as an excuse for bloodshed!" / "He's just trying to survive, we've all done bad things, False." / "Forcing your own knight to murder you isn't survival!" Beef is dragging Doc away from her, / "Did you hear, Doc, Etho still doesn't want Bdubs to die, he still cares-"

X is to the side of them all, messing with his communicator, please, he needs to get in contact with Noxite, needs to know if he's not the only one who had his players, his family, stolen from him, admitting he needs help from another admin And Mumbo is in the middle, closest to the screen, where Grian glances to the worldborder, the camera, as he says it. Would it be proud? Of the four murders Grian has under his belt done with redstone, and many more planned, how he doesn't recognize his best friend in those eyes?

Iskall stands beside him, watches the way Mumbo just barely trembles hearing Grian say his name, and grabs his fellow Architech's hand tight.

A error in the server causes the hermits to swap ages and/or physical traits! The only ones that are normal are pearl and gem (for now..)

Scar is now older while cub is younger!

Some fun facts and behind the scene notes about the ICBTOYC series because the next update is taking a bit longer then I would like, so here’s something to hold down the fort:

The title of the series comes from a lyric in the song Brother by NEEDTOBREATHE and Gavin DeGraw. It’s sort of the theme song of the series in my eyes and if you check out the song, you’ll understand why

Actually all of the fics have a song that inspired it. For most fics, the song’s lyrics ended up in the title, but some didn’t- Doc’s is Brother by Matt Corby, Iskall’s is Belong by X Ambassadors, Etho’s is False Confidence by Noah Kahn, Keralis’ is Two by Sleeping at Last, Cub’s is Guillotine by Jon Bellion, False’s is The Fixer by Brent Morgan, and Zedaph’s is Dreamland by Glass Animals

My favourite quote from the whole series so far is a tie “Apolllo you bitch, I never wanted this gift of prophecy. Take it back you coward” and “Mumbo tried to stop him and Ren just straight up barked at him, Mumbo looks so offended”

Some very early foreshadowing that may have been missed is that in Iskall’s fic, they say that Jevin doesn’t go with them to the party because he doesn’t like big public spaces. Jevin doesn’t like those spaces because- as we learn in his story- he hates his body and constantly feels different and judged

Speaking of Jevin’s fic, in it Wels says “we all have our own demons” and Hypno says “your brain has a way of distorting the world against you,” both of which are foreshadowing their own stories later on

In Cleo’s fic, False tells her “I’d give you all the time in the world if you needed it.” This is a direct quote of what Xisuma tells False in her fic, showing how what Xisuma told her and how he helped her really stuck with her and how she wanted to help Cleo in the same way

Yes, I do have the fics for Pearl and Gem planned out. It might just take a bit before we get there

Many people noted that ‘Zed’ was acting out of character in Hypno’s fic, but eagle-eyed readers may have been able to figure out that it was actually Ex before the reveal because Ex (under the disguise of Zed) tells Hypno in chat “you need help and I can’t be the one to give it to you” which is very very similar to when he told Zed in his fic “You need help from people who can give you what you need, constant support and love. I’m really not in a position to be that friend for you.”

The whole thing with Helsknight’s first episode did actually happen in this AU, it just never made it into the main series because no one used the code during it. The reason Wels didn’t use the code during it was because he was scared that no one was going to answer if he did, just like last time. This is also why Wels is so quick to trust Ex, because he thinks Ex is Xisuma’s Hels equivalent and Hels hermits are basically the darkest, most hidden away part of a person’s mind. Wels thinks X is the best person he knows, and there’s no way X could be that evil, so Ex can’t be that bad himself. Neither the assumption that Ex is a Hels Hermit, nor the assumption that Xisuma doesn’t have dark, twisted thoughts is correct.

Here are some alternative versions of stories that I almost wrote before I changed them for whatever reason: Keralis’ was going to be about him feeling like the other Hermits assume he’s stupid and getting upset by this before I fully started fleshing out the Ex storyline and decided to link it in, Scar was going to be the Vex fic instead of Cub, False’s was about her getting struck by lightning and nearly dying during MCC training and Cub having to use the code for her then feeling guilty about what happened in a two-parter (this idea later developed into Joe’s and Cleo’s), and Hypno’s went through many changes, first being about him feeling forgotten and alone because of a prank someone played on him, then being about him having a psychotic disorder and experiencing depersonalization and derealization

The reason Beef’s fic went how it did was because I knew I wanted a Canadian to get hypothermia for the irony but I had already picked Etho’s prompt so it ended up being Beef, which I think is hilarious

And in Beef’s fic, the reason he says his favourite song is Here Comes the Sun by the Beetles is because of the lyrics “Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter, Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here” and “Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting. Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear.” Think of this as gentle foreshadowing from me that everything was going to be okay by the end: the winter may have seemed cold and lonely and almost deadly for Beef but the sun was going to eventually come and a happy ending was on the horizon

3rd life is canon in this world but because it’s a permadeath AU, instead of it being a murder game, it’s essentially a giant game of lazar tag

My favourite fics in the series are Beef’s (was super fun to write) and Mumbo’s (still relatable af and a message I often have to remind myself)

Random Hermitcraft Headcanons

Every single smp knows about hermitcraft

X can shapeshift into any living thing except people under 4'6 and above 7'6

For the first few seasons, new hermits just randomly appeared and were like "oh okay guess im here now"

Mumbo joined hermitcraft at 14 years

Tfc is 60k years old

Jevin is made of 2 layers, an inner "core" of oobleck and an outer layer of slime

Scar is actually 6'4

Grian can lift any other hermit with 1 hand

The only hermits to cut their hair are Grian, Joe, and Bdubs cause they don't know how and theyre scared of Bdubs

Bdubs is half feral cat

Iskall is a third human, third guardian, third slime

Ren has written fanfiction of some of the other hermits, they haven't said anything yet

Mumbo cosplays the other hermits and has a cosplay tiktok account with over 100k, over half of the hermits follow it, no one knows its mumbo

No hermit is fully human

Cub acts like a teen despite being in his 40s

Mumbo was emo before hermitcraft and have the emo clothes and accessories to Cub

Mumbos hair is naturally brown, and he dyes it with ink sacks. For the first month of season 8, his hair was brown

Iskall is a tetris god

Gem can do a triple backflip

Scars big hat is 6 feet tall, making him 11'2 in his wheelchair

Pearl knows Japanese, Arabic, French, and Spanish

From mcc, theyve adopted everyone they teamed with and they live with the person they teamed with most (Hbomb with Ren, Joel with Cub and Grian, TapL with Pearl, ect.)

Jevin jiggles in front of people to cheer them up

People use Jevin as a stress ball

Scar is a fourth cat

Grian knows exactly how to scare every other hermit

Hermits give therapy to the DSMP

Grian grew wings as soon as he joined hermitcraft. It was painful

Etho does the among us sound effects perfectly

Etho and Tango have a weekly anime group meeting with InTheLittleWood and Philza

Keralis has dry skin

grian and wilbur/tommy/techno are cousins

scar and doc are tubbos uncles

grian and dream were best friends all of middle and high school

a hermit has accidentally eaten mumbo before

tommy is originally from hermitcraft but dream stole him

iskall and niki are siblings

etho gave the dsmp it's shulker box

mumbo is ranboos older brother

tango eats mayo

grian taught tommy how to fly

grian was phils middle school science teacher

mumbo survived a 3k block fall with just sheer will, nothing below him

everyone on the dsmp sees any hermit as god

tfc is phils great great grandpa

wilbur had a grian phase where his entire personality and style was grian

doc and sam have swapped places numerous times, only being noticed when either dream hears german cursing or when ren smells an american

mumbo and ranboo are both 6'8

fundy ren and gem have a furry cult

half the dsmp fears grian, the other half stand him

x is dreams biological dad

joe likes to meet dream in prison just to read him poems hours on end, dream doesn't entirely hate it

Hermitcraft Space Outlaws

Space Outlaws is a massive AU project I began in 2020 with one goal: creating cool sci-fi character designs for all of the Hermits. Oh and kinda random but here's my take on the Impulse thing:

It's obvious that he doesn't speak for all of the hermits and we all know that so while his response was "Probably best to avoid that (shipping)" it doesn't mean we can't ship still. He was just giving his opinion which was basically better safe than sorry. Plus it wasn't a 100% certain answer of "no", keyword even being "probably".

There's also the fact that multiple hermits have already said their piece on it. Wels doesn't care (he said he would ignore it and hasn't come across any shipping material anyway), Doc said none of the hermits have expressed any discomfort, False has cracked a shipping joke and wouldn't have if X and Mumbo were uncomfortable with it, we all know Cleo and Joe's responses by now, Iskall has happily retweeted ship art and Stress showed no discomfort with it, Jevin also added onto it joking about a hermit wedding, and we all know by now that Doc and Ren have done that "#shiprendoc" thing by now—

So I wouldn't base your entire opinion or take of shipping on Impulse, one single hermit, saying he thinks it's best to avoid shipping. Especially considering multiple hermits have already said their opinions on it and thus far none of those opinions have come out as negative and nothing has been shoved in anyone's face.

You can take it as "maybe let's not ship Impulse" but personally I wouldn't. Really just don't tag them in ship art unless it's a hermit that's been more explicitly okay with it like if it was a Rendoc piece or Stresskall. Generally don't tag a hermit in ship art. I've posted a couple ship pieces to Twitter before, one was a Hels x Ex drawing and in both of them I did NOT tag Wels because why the fuck would I do that (I do find it kinda funny that Mrs Wels liked both of them though—)

TL;DR: Just because Impulse said he thinks it's best to avoid shipping doesn't mean y'all gotta stop shipping plus several hermits have already said their pieces like Wels saying he doesn't care and Doc saying none of the hermits have expressed being uncomfortable with shipping. Just don't tag the hermits in your ship art if you post it to Twitter or something.

Season after season, the Hermits had been tormented relentlessly by hollows, or horrible, invisible monsters created by Evil X. They were a result of an experiment of unknown intent, and now they steal peculiar Hermit’s souls, and somehow manage to creep their way into every new season.

Once they acquire enough of these souls, they can ascend into wights. These wights take the form of beloved Hermits, making them far more dangerous. The only physical difference is that wights bear entirely white eyes that seem to glow in the dark.

Now, Season 6. It’d been relatively peaceful. It was the longest time the Hermits had been hollow-free, and newer technology that came with every Update had made the future seem much brighter. The possibility of never having to leave their homes behind again is closer to becoming a reality than ever. Maybe Evil X has finally given up. Old Hermits have even joined along the way! However, what the others don’t know is that the return of these presumed-dead Hermits opens a whole new realm of disaster beyond either of them’s control, and perhaps a tear into the fine fabric that keeps Season 6 safe.

hey hi howdy so i made a blog for anyone whos interested in this au lol this is basically where i just drop anything i write about or draw w this au haha. please note that this au has semi-permadeath (nobody will die forever or anythin but sometimes people just don’t respawn if that makes any sense??) and not a whole lot of angst but its there. i’ll try and have this deviate a bit from the og books bc some of its either problematic, confusing, or doesnt fit with what i have planned. in fact, heres a small list of things ive changed for reference (and in case u get the books and go “wtf quee this isnt canon”): ymbrynes can be men bc admins if a hermit spends a lot of time around another hermit, they’ll pick up a bit of one anothers abilities. not enough to be useful for anything but hey its there ymbrynes are leaders not caretakers wights and hollows travel though underground nether portals and tfc usually has to break any unfinished ones he finds while caving rip seasons in hc = loops in mphfpc

anyways as a refresher heres a list of peculiarities the hermits have, alphabetically (tumblr’s a bitch and wont let me put this under a cut for whatever reason so i’ll just tag as long post):

Bdubs: it is a mystery Biffa: He’s an admin so he’s an ymbryne! Basically hes a bird guy (he can become a crowned eagle) who’s sorta the decision maker of the server with x and joe. in this au ymbrynes aren’t caretakers (bc thats problematic, in my humble opinion) and are leaders sorta? anyways moving on oh yeah he kinda went poof one day n nobody knows where he is Cleo: Zombie, but powered by redstone. Cub: Vex magic Doc: He can reanimate the dead. It’s incredibly draining, but hey its there Evil X: An ex-ymbryne. He created the hollows, but not for the reason you, or the other hermits, think. He retains the ymbryne power of becoming a bird, in this case, a crow. another thing he is, is redeemable. False: basically she’s almost impossible to beat in battle its kinda scary but its also really cool. Grian: hes got birdie wings also hes very light which allows him to fly without using rockets and its kinda like a perpetual slow falling potion. somehow he still manages to splat on the ground lol Impulse: manipulates shadows n darkness. he makes lil shadow puppets for tango n zed bc team zit’s friendship is so fucking cute Iskall: Manipulates slime iskallium. he and jevin claim their abilities are different. He’s also noticed that the area around him gets just a little chillier. Jevin: is being literally made out of slime not peculiar enough for you (he can manipulate slimes) Joe: Ymbryne, again! He’s a bluebird. Also he’s got enhanced synesthesia and it’s pretty rad. Keralis: it is a mystery Mumbo: Living lever. He can activate redstone simply by touching it. He has to think for it to work though. Python: flowers kinda grow at his feet. because of this hes the master of poison. he uses lilies of the valley in tea to poison enemies. he was once accused of making biffa disappear because of this. Ren: he speaks fluently to animals. haha furry ily Scar: Vex magic... 2! After all the time spent at Area 77 with Doc, he’s also gotten a bit popular with the undead. Stress: Ice magic for the ice queen! Tango: Fire manipulation. He’s always very warm. TFC: He doesn’t seem too special until you look closely at his eyes. One of them is completely white. When X first met him, he just thought he was blind in that eye, until the man saved X’s butt from a wight in Season 5. That is how the server found out their “normal” is part wight. Wels: Metallokinesis! Don’t make him angry. He’ll drop an anvil on you. Xisuma: Yet another ymbryne, and the last one I have to talk about. He’s a snowy owl. Zedaph: He’s kinda what happens if you stay in the End for too long. He’s got a very potent dragon’s breath attack at his fingertips and he has natural dragon wings/horns. also pointy teef and end crystals give him regen. Admittedly this is my headcanon for him already (except the end crystal part), but shhh..
