Buck rolls over, forgetting where he slept. Opens his eyes halfway and is met with a sight he never thought he would have the chance to see. 

The early morning sun is cascading over Eddie’s face, illuminating his soft, sleep mussed hair perfectly imperfect. He has his bottom lip captured in between his teeth in sleep. 

And Buck can’t breathe. 

Because he should have known that sleeping in the same bed with Eddie now that he’s realized that the man is probably the love of his life is a mistake of catastrophic proportions. 

He wants with every fiber of his being to reach over and run a hand through the soft brown hair, glide his thumb over the apple of his cheek, right over the little freckle that crinkles when Eddie smiles. Kiss down the pillow line streaking down his cheek. And just hold him.

Instead he stares up at the ceiling wishing that this were any other universe. Or at least one where he could have Eddie. Or even one where he already does. 

He swallows past the lump in his throat and fights a tear as he sits up quietly, and gently exits the bed with practiced ease from a past life it seems. 

He picks up his sweatshirt where he had left it on the back of the couch. 

He’s pulling it on over his head when he hears the floorboards creak. 

“You were gonna leave?” Eddie’s sleep coated voice asks. Buck doesn't imagine the hurt. 

He pulls the sweatshirt down and runs a hand through his curls and nods. 

“Stay?” Eddie practically whispers.

“I can’t. I forgot I had something to do this morning. Didn’t mean to wake you up.” 

And even he doesn’t believe the lie.  He turns toward the door. 

“Buck, stay.” 

It’s no longer a question or a request. 

And who is Buck to deny Eddie a damn thing. 

“If you knew I don’t know that you would want me to,” his voice catches because of all the things that he has been through this might be the most painful. His hand is on the door handle.

“Buck, stay. Please.”

Eddie wraps his arms around his waist pulling him close, burying his nose in the crook of his neck, and takes a deep breath. 

“Try me,” Eddie whispers against his ear. 

And the lump in his throat is back, and his eyes are burning with tears again. 

“I need you to say it, please,” it comes out squeaky. 

Eddie spins him around against the front door, running a thumb over his birthmark. 

“Stay, because you are the love of my God damned life Evan Buckley. And it shouldn’t have taken you sneaking out of my house like a bad one night stand for me to realize that I want you to stay forever. Wake up to your bleary blue eyes and messed up curls forever. Please, stay. Stay forever.” 

“God damn it Diaz, you gotta stop doing that to me.” 

And he finally brushes his thumb over the freckle, places a gentle kiss over it before capturing Eddie’s lips in his. 

It’s soft, gentle, warm, and moves like honey. 

Buck tears himself away to breathe, leaning his forehead against Eddie’s, “You’re the love of my life too, in case that wasn’t clear. I want to wake up to you every morning. Bring you coffee in bed cause you’re grumpy. Buy you flowers just because. Show you all the love that you deserve.” 

“God we’re stupid,” Eddie says with a smile and a shine in his eyes, “Now, about that coffee in bed?” 

Buck smiles back, “Anything for you, sweetheart,” he replies and kisses Eddie again because he can.

Eddie’s lost track of how long they’ve been kissing. It’s easy to do, because when he’s kissing Buck time becomes a concept with no meaning. It slips through his fingers and stops altogether, not enough of it and all of it in the world at the tip of their fingers.

Buck, however, doesn’t seem to agree, at least not today, because he keeps sneaking peeks at his watch.

Eddie elects to ignore this. He just wants to spend a lazy afternoon making out with his husband on the couch while their son isn’t home and pretend there are no responsibilities begging for their attention. Sue him.

But then Buck peeks at his watch again, and sighs, and Eddie very maturely responds by rolling further on top of him, pressing him into the couch cushions before capturing his mouth in an absolutely filthy kiss.

Having been together for just over five years now, Buck is no stranger to Eddie’s delay tactics, and Eddie can feel the corners of Buck’s mouth tick up even as they kiss.

“Baby,” Buck murmurs against his lips. “I’m gonna be late.”

“Ok,” Eddie responds with a shrug. “Be late then.”

Buck allows himself to be kissed for another minute before pulling away with obvious reluctance. “You know Reynolds is a hard ass about that.”

“Shouldn’t have taken an extra shift.”

“I had to pay MacReady back for covering for me last month.”

Eddie groans. “But I want you to stay here, with me.”

Buck grins, and uses his considerable strength to flip them, somehow managing to do so without sending them sprawling to the floor. “Believe me, I would love to stay here with you. But I already agreed, so the station awaits.” He hovers over Eddie, and heat stirs in his gut even though he knows that Buck really does have to get going soon.

“Fine,” he huffs, grasping the back of Buck’s neck and dragging him down to kiss him again in opposition to his words.

“How about this?” Buck breaks the kiss to ask. Eddie mouths along Buck’s jawline to his throat while he waits for Buck’s proposition. “I go to work now, and when I get home in the morning I promise not to get out of bed until you are well and truly tired of kissing me.”

“We’d die of starvation before that happened.” He pulls back to look at Buck after that declaration and, as expected, Buck’s beaming.

“Ok, then I’ll stay in bed until we have to go pick up Christopher,” Buck amends, and Eddie sighs.

“Ok, I guess I can live with that,” he says, but then he kisses Buck again anyway.

An hour later, as he’s putting away laundry, his phone chimes with a text.

Have to wash the ladder truck for being late. Worth it tho ❤️

Like a lot of people say Eddie is a queer/gay man (me too!! bc he is!!) But he EXUDES demisexual vibes. I don't think he's ever been with a man but I don't think it's any sort of issue once he's realized he's in love with Buck bc!! he just!! loves buck so much 😭😭!!!

EXACTLY!!!!! i’m demisexual myself and the entire eddieana relationship was like looking in a mirror. and when it comes to buck he’s going to recognize the love he has for him and the sex is going to come so naturally in a way it absolutely never did with ana. i tend to believe shannon was his only other sexual partner (though i wouldn’t discount maybe a high school girlfriend that he liked pre-shannon) and he’s never been w a man. there’s a reason he and shannon (whom he loved despite all their problems) fell back into bed so easily but he seems to have such trouble being with this gorgeous woman who by all accounts he SHOULD be super into. ana was perfect on paper but he didn’t Feel it and THAT is why their relationship is so….. physically uncomfortable.

My mother tongue is actually Swedish! Finnish is my second and English my third language, although I'm much more secure in my English grammar than my Finnish grammar (the Finnish object will forever be the death of me). I also speak very rudimentary French.

And I hadn’t even thought about that so that is actually something to think about because yeah you’re right!!
