I've been thinking about how Vash always seems to be hungry. Or at least, that he's shown eating quite often in the manga. Happily having his salmon sandwiches. Eating an entire box of donuts in the side car. Knowing the conversion rate of bullets to pizza. Seeing a flower and immediately wondering if it's edible. Pondering his life over breakfast. It's a really cute little character detail about him - he likes food.

But then I kind of started to think about the angel arm and its specific brand of destruction. How there were no bodies to be recovered. Nothing but a crater left of July, left on the Fifth Moon. It's all been incinerated. Devoured, even. Tristamp takes it even a step further and makes the power something akin to a black hole - a yawning drain; a constant destructive hunger.

Vash is clearly terrified of this potential for destruction, and for very good reason. But it's not separate from him as some kind of "power he can't control" - it's his arm. It's literally his arm. It is him. Vash is scared of himself, scared of losing control. He does what he can to repress it, even subconsciously (the gaps in his memory whenever it activates). He can't control it in the moment, so he takes steps to preemptively push it down, to avoid the use of his abilities entirely, to hide himself away.

I talked a bit in a previous post about how there are probably several interrelated reasons for Vash's chronically avoidant behaviour, but I'd like to throw one more into the ring and suggest that it's not just a matter of not deserving to want things, but maybe also that he's afraid of wanting. That if he allows himself to even think about what he wants personally that he'll want too much, take too much, and that the only cure in his mind for this is to give and give repeatedly.

I wonder how starved he is for love. Vash loves hard, after all. Once he loves (and I’m not talking about the broad, distant love/compassion he has in general), for better or worse, he carries them around with him forever, long after they've passed. Does he feel like it'd be selfish to admit this kind of want? His love isn't really a passive thing after all - it's the drive at his very core; a mournful inferno he is just barely suppressing. Does he remember how to love in a way that doesn't consume him entirely?

Is that part of the reason he checks out at signs of intimacy? Diverts gifts towards others? Tends to accept kind gestures only when under an assumed name? Intentionally starves himself in Tristamp? Runs and runs and runs? Is he afraid he won't be able to stop hungering? That allowing himself to want means his want will become insatiable?

I just have to wonder how much of his avoidance of connection is being scared that he will cause more destruction (to them? or to him?) by trying to take far too much into his hands than he ever caused by turning his back and running.

...of course I may just be entirely deranged here sorry.

But god, the angst potential of him feeling the weave underneath his chest strain, fight and claw at him, desperate and hungry like the starved beast it is. Hi, Wifi, i hope you're doing well now! ❤️ Just sharing a very random brainrot. Remember the au you posted wherein Foul Legacy and Childe are now two separate beings? Imagine that Childe goes to Sumeru to search for Scara and the Gnossis. Foul Legacy was left with the reader, to essentially keep the reader safe, warm and loved. However, reader gets sick.

You have been running on and off fever for days. During one of your fever dreams, you say Childe's real name out loud. He has been away for weeks now. Although he writes often and although Foul Legacy is with you, it's just the same. Foul Legacy is holding your hand as you deliriously call out to Ajax. He whimpers softly and presses a comforting talon-tipped hand on your cheek. In that moment, Foul Legacy decides to bring Ajax back. You have been sick and lonely for a while. No matter how much he cheers you up, he knows that only two ocean blue eyes would make you smile now. So Foul Legacy leaves in the middle of the night, zipping through the forests of Liyue and going through the boulders of the Chasm Surface to get to Sumeru. He left you under Zhongli's care. The ex Archon promised to take care of you.

Foul Legacy reached the Fatui camp in a matter of hours. He sniffs the air, detecting the scent of the ocean and bergamot. A true warrior never stops training - Childe proves this as he was not in the camp at all. Instead, Foul Legacy finds Childe near the desert. The smug grin on Childe's face after defeating Eremites, was instantly wiped off as he came face to face with the Abyssal monster.

"Legacy? Why are you here?" Childe jogged over. "Where's y/n? Did you leave her?"

The questions were frantic. Childe didn't even ask if anyone spotted Legacy. Hw just wanted to know what happened to you and what led the star-speckled beast to Sumeru.

Foul Legacy whines and huffs. Talons darted forward, sinking into Childe's gray jacket. Foul Legacy simply tugged towards the direction of Liyue. Towards you.

Childe's heart began to beat fast. The urgency in Legacy's movements didn't help ease his worry. All he could think of was you.

What do you think would happen though?

Foul Legacy's not normally this insistent- stubborn, yes; Childe's had plenty of situations where Legacy's refused to put you down even though you're perfectly capable of walking on your own two legs (you never complained though), but Foul Legacy was rarely ever insistent that Childe do something, especially not when he was out on a mission

something must be wrong at home, something involving you specifically, and chills go down Childe's back at the thought of it, at the thought of you being anything other than okay. so he makes a detour to the Fatui camp to leave a message for his recruits before following Foul Legacy back to Liyue, almost having to sprint to keep up with the Abyssal monster. he's out of breath by the time they both finally reach your house, the dawn from before now nearly midday, and Foul Legacy hastily pulls him inside. Zhongli's waiting, relieved at Childe's return, and ushers them both to your room where you're sleeping, fever slightly cooler but by not much and Childe's heart drops

"oh, my love..." he rushes to your side as you mumble his real name in your sleep, stroking your face with the tips of his fingers. when he taps your palm your fingers close weakly around his, but you lean your face into Foul Legacy's gentle touch, his claws pleasantly cool against your warm skin. even as you sleep, Childe and Foul Legacy can see a tiny smile blossom on your face and easing the pained expression you had just moments ago, and Childe hears Foul Legacy purr in relief.

"hey."

Foul Legacy looks up, blinking curiously, and Childe sends him a genuine smile.

"thanks for coming to get me."

god it’s literally so adorable and heartwarming to me to imagine Matt offering up his arm to Miles who needs blood for some reason or another . Like he’s losing himself so latches onto Matt’s arm (so i guess it’s not offering oops lol) and Matt tries to shove him off but he sees how calm Miles is and it’s not even like Miles is taking THAT much blood. How would MK , Mei,react to seeing macaque and mayor together , like they were bickering and just happend to bump into each other, post LBD death?

You know, let's take this one step further, because I like to rant even though it's completely unnecessary.

Let's picture a hypothetical scenario:

Presumably, Macaque is now on good terms with MK, Mei, and everyone else (somehow). Whether or not you think he made a proper apology or kinda just, gas lit everyone into thinking he's redeemed is up to you.

He's in Pigsy's Noodles, eating what is of course noodles. Pretty much the entire gang except for Sandy is there (because let's face it, Sandy is usually never there). Macaque doesn't know why the hell he's dining in, but he is. Maybe MK finally had a day off work and so there was simply no noodle delivery service for him. So dining in was the only option.

And then, the Mayor suddenly pokes their head out of one of their blue portals, right next to where Macaque is sitting. They exclaim a really really loud "OH THERE YOU ARE!!! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU EVERYWHERE!!! :DDD" and the entire noodle store goes silent. Clearly, although the Mayor did not expect to find their favourite shadow demon in a room with other people, they are not phased by it.

Macaque is unphased too, having gone through this multiple times before and proceeds to have a conversation (or a petty argument for bickering to ensue) with the Mayor with their head still just poked through the blue portal. Perhaps they exchange something as it might be the reason Mayor is there. Or maybe Mayor just wanted to tell Macaque a silly little something. Like, how the bagels in the supermarket are on discount and that Mayor was going to buy a whole stack but they don't have enough space in their cupboard so they wanted to ask Macaque if he was willing to take a few of the discounted bagels. If that is the case, then Macaque agrees to take the bagels.

The Mayor then leaves eventually of course. The interaction doesn't last for any longer than three minutes. Macaque goes back to eating his noodles. The entire time, the noodle store is silent.

And then utter chaos.

In comes the words of "WAS THAT THE MAYOR WHO IS PROBABLY NOT ACTUALLY A REAL MAYOR?!?!" from Mei, and "I THOUGHT THEY LOST THEIR POWERS?!?!" From Tang, and "WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY DOING HERE?!?!" From Pigsy.

And then of course, from MK, "OH NO WE LEFT THEM IN THE LIBRARY DIDNT WE-" MK is mortified at this realisation, and genuinely feels rather guilty.

In a nutshell, MK and Mei are... Suprised.

Macaque will then experience a solid five minutes of very light hearted and not dangerous in any sort of manner interrogation. He's still eating his noodles even when Mei draws out her sword and asks whether or not the Mayor is out for revenge for the death of their lady.

Either way Macaque leaves that place with a full belly, and also leaving behind a noodle store filled with confusion and concern.

Were MK and Mei and the others hostile at this discovery that Macaque and Mayor are in contact? No. Not hostile at all. Were they confused? Yes. Of course they are. Are they going to do anything with this confusion? No. Because you know why? Right after Macaque leaves, Jin and Yin have started making havoc across the city of Megapolis, and now MK and Mei have to save the day. By the time they are done, they have already forgotten about Macaque and his strange relationship with the Mayor.

I’m extremely unsatisfied with the show choosing to make Daemon a wife abuser who neglects his kids.

I’m not mad that he’s a horrible person, I’m mad that he is the totally wrong kind of horrible.

I am not AT ALL saying he’s a good man in the slightest, but the show could at least stick true to his actual sins rather than making some up just for shock value! bc this whole arc really complicates things. His family loved him in the books and he loved them; this fact really contributes to the character development of those around him (esp his daughters). I feel like the entire Game of Thrones tv universe is OBSESSED with making women victims of abuse.

STOP DOING THIS JUST BC U WANT TO MAKE A MALE CHARACTER LOOK BAD! WOMEN DO NOT NEED TO BE ABUSED TO BE STRONG AND POWERFUL! Daemon is evil for so many other reasons! Literally pick any of them fr! This is going to negatively impact Rhaenyra’s character as well! (book rhaenyra would have beat his ass for even trying it fr)

His SOLE redeeming quality is that he loves his wife and kids and that’s pretty much ruined now :/ it really flattens his character. It sucks all of the chaotic, moral ambiguity out of him.

One primary point of the civil war in Fire and Blood is that although everyone is evil, each character is morally gray enough that you can really route for either side.

Removing his return to Westeros when his daughters were toddlers so his family could grow alongside Rhaenyra’s was bad writing. Reducing him to a domestic abuser is even worse writing.
