Are there any fairly obscure books, movies, plays, historical events etc. that haven’t been made into musicals yet that you would love to see made into musicals?
Well idk if they are obscure but I have TONS of things I would like to see as musicals. Honestly this question is so exciting.
First off I was gonna include "Como agua para chocolate" de Laura Esquivel but I found out throughPlaybill that is gonna happen so I am super excited to see how that turns out.
So yeah here is my list:
BOOKS:
"Mas rápido que el deseo" by Laura Esquivel. (This is a beautiful love story told from a dying father to her only daughter, and the way sound is used in the book always made me think how beautiful it would be to see it as a musical)
"Aura" by Carlos Fuentes (this one made me think how few "thriller" musicals we have and Aura would be incredibly easy to produce cuz there are very few characters and you wouldn't need a big production. It tells the story of a young man who comes to leave with a Window and her niece with whom he falls in love only to discover a reeaaaally creepy secret)
"Amor en tiempos de cólera" by Gabriel Garcia Marqués (This one is an epic and long love story, I think it has the potential to be as legendary as Le Mis or Phantom)
"Leonora" by Elena Poniatowska (this is the novelization of Leonora Carrington's life, she has a lot of contact with diverse artist of her time such as Miró, and deals w her struggles w mental illness)
"Duerme" by Carmen Boullosa (this one is about a young woman during Colonial era in México, she dresses as a man is quite unconventional . It's historical background is also super intresting )
"Northanger Abbey" by Jane Austen (according to Google there has been a musical adaptation but I would like it if this was given more of a SIX or &Juliet approach, I mean c'mon Catherine is pretty young and has these wild fantasies cuz she is such a bookworm they would be so funny to see on stage)
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden (this would be kinda hard to adapt but I just think it would be visually gorgeous)
"Middlemarch" by George Elliot (I think it has so much potential to be an amazing musical i just imagine the selfrighteous Dorothea singing about how she wants a pious and intelligent men who guides her and opposes her ideas at the beginning of the musical and then a reprise trying to pretend she has got her way in marrying Casaubon. Kind of like a "Thank Goodness" moment.)
"Foul is fair" by Hannah Capin (this one is quite a recent book, it's a retelling of Macbeth and it blew me away. It would be more of an edgy musical like Heathers, but the message is more about rape culture )
"Like a Love Story" by Abdi Nazemian (this one tells the story of 3 teens meeting on 1989 and bending through Madonna while fighting for LGTBQ+ rights. Ofc this would have to be a jukbox musical and honestly I can't think of a better way to make a musical w Madonna songs)
"The Queen of the Night" by Alexander Chee (maybe a bit too on the nose, cuz it already has a musical element, but honestly the story is just amazing and pretty dynamic)
"Space Opera" by Catherynne M. Valente (again quite a recent book but it draws so heavily from the Eurovision song contest, and it's fun and campy. Also why aren't there more Sci-fi musicals???)
MOVIES
"Ladyhawke" (I used to love this movie when i was younger and would love to see it as a musical)
"10 things I hate about you" (why isn't this a musical already??? The movie is iconic, it's a fun Shakespeare retelling, would have such fun songs)
"The lost boys" (ok so I know vampire musicals haven't fared well, but I think that's cuz the approach is waaay to serious, honestly this would make for a campy fun musical with some amazing costumes)
"Rocketman" (C'mon this writes itself. Like it would work perfectly for a stage adaptation)
"The corpse bride" (it already has a couple of songs and honestly it would be so cool visually)
"Twilight " (HEAR ME OUT!!! This one should only be made by Starkid cuz it shouldn't be taken seriously it should be a fun parody of the YA literature at the time with lots of selfawareness, and sarcástic humor. I put this one on the movie category cuz let's be honest the movies had some killer soundtrack)
"My Best friend's wedding" (I mean the Pretty woman musical was ok i guess but this one already has an iconic music scene, and I think the story work better for a musical)
"Dirty Dancing" (again c'mon why isn't this a musical but Ratatouille got so much hype on tiktok???? Like this would have gorgeous dance numbers, humor, heartbreaking scenes)
"Dangerous Liaisons" (I know there is a musical based on the modern adaptation "Cruel Intentions" but this movie was amazing! Like i think this version would work better for the stage)
PLAYS
"A Streetcar named desire" by Tennessee Williams (so there is an opera and that hillarious Simpson's episode but I really would love to see this one as a musical )
"El burlador de Sevilla" by Tirso de Molina (I am a fan of Don Juan Tenorio, but I think El burlador would work better for a musical, the ending works better and it's female characters are waaaaay more intresting and fleshed out)
"La casa de Bernarda Alba" (I think this would be amazing, I picture Bernarda as an alto the story is super character driven and there is a lot of internal monologues that could translate perfectly into songs)
"Turandot" (so this is an opera but I think this one would be an amazing option for a musical, the main themes of the show are love an revenge , ofc it would have to be re worked as much of the names and settings reek of Orientalism , like idk what Puccini was doing giving characters names like Ping, Pang, Pong but yeah it has the potential)
"Machinal" by Sophie Treadwell (this is one of my favorite plays, it's set on the 20's and I think it would make a great musical with a tragic ending we all see coming)
"Uncommon women and others" by Wendy Wesserstein (this is about a bunch of woman who reconect at a lunch and they start talking about their time as college students during the second-wave feminism and how they discovered themselves through it )
"Awake and Sing!" By Clifford Odetts (first off the title rocks so fitting for a musical, then we have the story of Jewish immigrants on the Bronx pursuing the American Dream)
HISTORICAL EVENTS
- I would love to see a musical about the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, like most productions back then were musicals and it would reintroduce to the world iconic mexican actors such as Pedro Infante, Silvia Pinal, Jorge Negrete, Dolores del Río, etc etc.
-A musical about the artists of the Italian renaissance. I would do this in the style/tone of Something Rotten!
-A musical about Leona Vicario .
-A musical about real pirates like Madame Cheng
-I know it's a Biblical story so maybe not true but I think it'd be cool to see a musical about King Ahasuerus, Vashti and Esther .
And that’s all I can think of the top off my head.

Are we even speaking the same language? (Part 8)
Sophie moves to Seoul to become a language assistant at one of Seouls biggest music companies. Even though her Korean is far from perfect, she quickly seems to get along with some of the biggest stars in the company. But the language might not be the only barrier, she has to overcome.
Characters: All seven members of BTS, paring between Namjoon x main character
Word count: 5016
Genre: romance, angst, fluff, smut (only mentions so far)
Comments: When the dialog is written in cursive, it’s in Korean. When it’s bold, it’s in danish.
Masterpost with the other parts of the story, can be found here (x)
It had been a month, since she started dating him. Namjoon. Actually, dating wouldn’t be the right word to use. There hadn’t been any dates involved. It had involved her adapting a lot. Late nights in his studio, him coming over exhausted after practice or overseas concerts to at least sleep at her place. But she didn’t mind. As long as she could be close to him, she was happy. Everything felt comfortable with him. Even their first time, which had been a bit awkward to say the least, had been filled with laughter and giggles. He had made her feel comfortable, and they had long since found their place in each other.
More than him, Sophie loved the family she had found in the rest of the boys, who had welcomed her like a sister. Since he spent most of his time with them, Sophie often tagged along or spent time at the dorm waiting for him to come home. She had spent countless hours already playing video games with Tae and Jungkook, messing around in the kitchen with Jin or sharing a bottle of wine with Suga and Jimin. Hoseok was busy with Cathrine most of the time, but they did do movie nights all together every now and then. Sometimes she would just sit on the couch and read, listening to the guys talking, laughing or bickering. She felt at home there.
It was Saturday, and she was on her way to the dorm. Jungkook had asked her to come by and practice some English with him. The weather was amazing, clear sky and a pale sun adorning the blue background. She enjoyed the warmth on her face, as she finished the rest of the coffee, she had bought at a café on the way.
When Jungkook opened the door, he took in her big smile and sunglasses with a bunny smile.
“Hi! Great, you’re here. I made some coffee for you, and there is some chocolate as well.” She gasped dramatically and put her hands on her chest, before giving him a hug.
“You get me.”
He gave a proud nod and let her in.
“Jimin-sshi wants to practice as well, but he’s sick.”
Sophie furrowed her brows.
“Sick? Where is he?” Jungkook pointed to the couch, and she walked up to the back of the couch.
“You’re sick?”
She peered down on the man, who was wrapped up in blankets on the couch. He gave her a weak nod.
“But you still want to practice English?”
He nodded again. She pursed her lips and walked into the kitchen.
“Jungkook, would you make a pot of tea for Jimin. Ginger and lemon. He’s gonna hate it, but it works.” She switched to English, since they were gonna practice it anyway, and she knew they understood her. “Is Namjoon here?”
Jungkook shook his head.
“He is in studio.”
“Alright. I’ll be right back,” she said, handing Jimin a water bottle on the way through the living room to Namjoons room. She knew, he didn’t have that many books here, but she was pretty sure, she had seen it on his shelf at some point.
A few minutes later, she walked back into the living room with a book in her hand. She sat down on the couch between Jimin and Jungkook, fixing Jimins blankets a bit before speaking.
“So, I know you want to practice speaking and writing, but I read somewhere, that listening to someone read to you is really good for expanding vocabulary and overall understanding of how to use the words you know.” When she saw their confused looks, she realized, that she was paraphrasing from the very scientific article she had read.
“Listening to me reading is good for your English,” she explained, and they just nodded.
She turned the book around in her lap, so they could see the cover, and Jungkook let out a little squeal of excitement. Jimin started smiling behind his cup of tea.
“I thought, I would read some Harry Potter for you. If you think it’s lame, I don’t care. I’m gonna read it anyway.” She gave them a challenging look, but they just looked excited. She opened the book to the first page, and when her eyes caught the first line, her face lit up in a pure smile.
“If I’m reading too fast, just tell me. Or if you want me to explain the meaning of some of the words,” she told them, as she settled into the couch between the two men. It felt just like, when she used to read for her siblings growing up. Sophie cleared her throat and started reading.
“Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense.”
They made it through two chapters, before she noticed Jimin had fallen asleep on her shoulder, his cheek smushed against her shoulder. She smiled softly at him and pushed some of his hair out of his face. Noticing the heat there, she placed the back of her hand over his forehead, feeling the burning fever under his skin. She bit the inside of her cheek. He needed some food.
She looked over to see Jungkook sleeping as well, and she let out a little giggle at the sight. He looked almost 10 years younger, when he slept. Every muscle relaxed, every strong feature hidden beneath soft skin. She quietly untangled herself from the boys’ sleeping forms and made her way to the kitchen.
The rest of the members were working, but they would be home for dinner, so Sophie decided to cook for all of them. Looking around the kitchen, she noticed that they were almost out of food. She went through all the cabinets, every single drawer and ended up finding enough ingredients for a ratatouille-kind-of-vegetable-stew and some noodles. She knew it wouldn’t be enough for them though, so she found a BBQ place online, that delivered, and ordered a bunch of grilled meats to be delivered in an hour. She plugged in her in-ears and put on some music. She didn’t want to wake up the boys.
Putting her phone in her back pocket, she set to work, cutting the many vegetables going in the stew.
Humming along to the song, she was moving comfortably around the kitchen. She was in the middle of preparing a pot for the noodles, when she felt a pair of hands on her hips, making her squeal and almost drop the pot. Turning around she saw Namjoon with bright eyes and his hand covering his laugh. She put the pot down on the counter and threw herself at his chest, wrapping her arms around him. As he hugged the top of her head against his chest, she felt the vibrations in his chest, when he spoke. Still close to his chest, she pulled out one of her ear-buds.
“What?”
“I said, I didn’t know you cooked?”, he smiled down at her.
“I love to cook,” she hummed. “And Jimin is sick, so I wanted him to get some real food instead of takeout.”
He walked over to the stove and looked into the pot, stirring it a bit.
“What did you make?”
“Eh, let’s call it poor man’s ratatouille,” she laughed, putting the pot for the noodles on the stove and turning on the heat. He laughed at her answer and shook his head in confusion.
“I don’t even know what that means.”
She stepped in front of him and pulled his hands around her waist. He chuckled at her demand for attention.
“It just means, that it’s made from whatever, I could find in the kitchen. Onions and potatoes from the cabinet. Aubergines and peppers from the fridge, canned tomatoes, and a bag of mixed frozen vegetables, I found in the freezer. Some ginger and chili to help with Jimins cold, and yeah. Some dried spices.”
He rested his head on her shoulder, watching her stir the pot and dump the noodles in the water. He nuzzled into her neck and pressed kisses to along her shoulder and neck, earning a giggle from her.
“Babe, this is all amazing, but do you think, there is enough food?”, he asked her, concern lazing his words. She laughed at his fear off the lack of food, and as if on cue, the doorbell rang.
“Could you go get the grilled meats, I ordered?” She winked at him, and his blank face confusedly went to the front door, returning with 4 bags in hand and a huge smile.
“How are you this great?”
He put the bags down on the table and grabbed her wrist pulling her into his chest. He cupped her face and looked into her eyes.
“Thank you. For everything.”
He pressed his lips to hers in a soft kiss. She lifted her chin to get a better angle and sucked on his lip. He smiled against her lips, placing his hands on her hips and pulling her closer. When he pulled back, he caressed her cheek and swiped his thumb over her bottom lip, giving her a soft smile.
“Yeah, we get it. You’re in love. Enough of the PDA.”
Jimin was standing in the doorway, pale and with a weak smirk on his lips. Sophie blushed at his words but tutted at his actions.
“Jimin, what are you doing? You stay under the covers”, she scolded him, quickly getting him a glass of water, before leading him back to the couch.
“I was bored. There was no one reading to me.”
He gave her a pout, and she laughed at him.
“Food is almost ready. Maybe I read some more later”, she told him, pulling the blankets over him.
Walking back into the kitchen, she found Namjoon raising an eyebrow at her.
“What?”
“You read to him?”
“Yeah, Harry Potter. In English, though. He wanted to practice English with me and Jungkook, but he was really sick. I figured it was a compromise.”
She shrugged her shoulders and started unpacking the meat, arranging it on platters. She felt Namjoons hands snake around her waist. He pressed a kiss to her cheek.
“You’re the most caring person, I have ever known,” he whispered into her ear, pressing a kiss to the soft skin just behind it. She sighed, leaning in to his embrace. They stayed like that for a moment, just leaning on each other.
They heard the front door open and suddenly the house reverberated with laughing, screaming and loud voices. Sophie giggled at the sudden difference in the dorm.
“Alright. Quiet time is over.” She went back to organizing the food.
“Ya, it smells amazing in here!”, Jin said, entering the kitchen and catching sight of the food on the counters. “You cooked, Sophie?” She gave him a satisfied smile and nodded.
“Wow, Namjoon. You really found a girl to complement your flaws, huh?”, Suga said, walking into the kitchen. He sent Sophie a soft smile. “It looks delicious, Soph.”
Sophie looked at Namjoon with confusion, and he just sighed.
“I’m not allowed to cook at the dorm anymore.”
He hung his head. Sophie looked at the others for clarification, but they were too busy laughing.
“Why not?”
“I burned the noodles so bad, that we had to throw out the pot.”
For a second, she just stood there in disbelief, trying to figure out how that would even go. Then she started laughing.
“How? How do you burn noodles?”, she spurted between laughs, as she had to crouch on the floor from laughing too hard, tears springing to her eyes. Jin laughed along with her, and Suga was just laughing at them. Namjoon was still standing in the middle of the room, a bit taken aback by Sophies loud reaction, but he couldn’t help himself from laughing at her crouching form, her eyes squeezed shot from laughter and tears in the corner of her eyes. He knew, she was laughing at him, but he didn’t care.
When she finally calmed down, he pulled her in for a kiss, before letting her go with tap on the bum, as she went to set the table. She giggled, as she walked into the living room to place the food on the table. Namjoon caught Yoongis smirk at him.
“What?”
“You’re in deep, Joon”, he laughed, shaking his head as he followed Sophie into the living room.
Namjoon let out a deep sigh.
Yeah, he knew.
Sophie put the food down on the table and called out for Jimin and Jungkook. Tae came bouncing in the front door with Hoseok on his heels.
“Soph, you made food!”
He gave her a crushing hug, while looking eagerly at the food. She smiled as she hugged him back. Hoseok walked up to them and gave her a hug as well.
“It looks amazing, Sophie,” he said, sitting down at the table.
As they started eating, appreciative hums were heard around the table.
“Well done!”, Jin exclaimed.
“Thank you”, Sophie blushed.
“Oh, I actually meant Namjoon”, he said with wide eyes. “The food is amazing. But Namjoon-ah, well done finding a girl, who can actually compete with me in the kitchen!”
They all burst out laughing.
After dinner, Sophie ordered Jimin back on the couch.
“But it’s boring,” he whined. “Only if you come read some more?”
He pouted and gave her puppy-eyes.
“Alright, I’ll read to you. Come on,” she said, walking with him to the couch. Jungkook excitedly jumped up and followed. Taehyung looked at the others, a little confused.
“What does he mean? Is she reading a book to him?”, he said in pout.
“Yeah, apparently she is reading Harry Potter to them in English”, Namjoon said with a laugh.
Taes eyes widened, and he almost knocked over the chair trying to get to the couch. The others laughed at him, but then the table feel silent, as they all considered the same thing.
“Actually, that sounds super nice. I haven’t had a story read to me, since I was a child,” Hoseok said, pushing his chair back and walking over to the couch, where Sophies voice could be heard.
Yoongi shrugged his shoulders and stood up as well, following Hoseok. Jin and Namjoon looked at each other and quietly agreed to follow.
Sophie was sitting in the middle of the couch with her legs crossed underneath her. Jimin was lying on her left side, his legs thrown over hers, and a blanked covering them both. Jungkook was sitting on the other side of her, leaning his head on her shoulder, and Tae was cuddled up to Jungkooks side. Hoseok was sitting on the other couch, with Suga next to him. Jin sat down on the floor in front of Hoseok, so Namjoon sat down in front of Sophie. Leaning his head back on her legs, he caught her eyes and sent her a wink, causing her to giggle.
“Hyung, don’t disturb her. She’s reading,” Jungkooks soft voice said.
Sophie winked at Namjoon, and her eyes twinkled as she started reading again.
Namjoon couldn’t take his eyes off her as she read. Her face animating everything happening in the story. Her voice rising and falling with the words of the story, giving each character their own voice, their own intonation and personality. He was mesmerized.
When she finished the chapter, she looked up to check if they were still listening, and was immediately met by Namjoons soft eyes. She blushed a bit under his intense stare, and he sent her a dimpled smile, lifting his chin, so she could poke it. She cradled his face a moment, before looking down at the book again.
“Do you want me to keep reading?”, she asked, looking around.
They all nodded, and Tae sent her a lazy smile with closed eyes. She smiled softly at how cute they all looked, cuddled up to each other on the couch. She quickly checked the time on her phone.
“Okay, one more chapter.”
Jimin let out a soft whine but didn’t say anything.
When the chapter was done, Jungkook and Jimin had fallen asleep, and Tae and Hoseok were also battling sleep. Sophie closed the book and placed it on the coffee table, touching Namjoons arm when she withdrew her hand.
None of the boys moved. Sophie quietly stood up from the couch and started cleaning up the empty plates and pots left over from dinner still evident on the table, where they had abandoned them in favor of listening to Sophie reading Harry Potter.
When she was finished, she went back to living room, looking around at the half-sleeping figures sprawled out over the couches.
“Guys, you should go to bed”, she said, still thinking in English after having read to them.
Hoseoks sleepy features appeared over the back of the couch and he nodded, nudging Yoongi and Jin to get them to move. Tae tried waking Jungkook, which turned out to be an impossible job. He ended up having to practically drag him to his room, before he came back to Sophie engulfing her in a hug.
“Thank you for reading to us. And thanks for the food. And for taking care of Jimin”, he said in his husky voice. Sophie smiled at his words and gave him at tight hug back.
“Any time, sweetie,” she said, patting his hair.
Jin and Hoseok hugged her goodbye as well, Suga gave a small wave as he left the room.
Namjoon opened his arms and she stepped into his embrace.
“Yeah, what Tae said. Really. Thank you so much for helping out.”
“You know, I read online, that you’re like the dad of the group and Jin is the mom. So, I thought, I would help you guys with the kids today.” She reached out to push some hair out of his face and sent him a teasing smile. Namjoon let out a little whine.
“You started reading about us online? Please, just promise me, you won’t read fanfictions about us. There are some… interesting pairings out there.” He chuckled a bit.
“Well, I am gonna read them. Some of them are really well written.” She threw him a wink and he pouted. She pulled his face down for a kiss and he wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her up, so he could reach her better. She let out a small squeal and smacked his arm.
“Alright, Mr. Romantic.”
He chuckled into her neck and started nibbling on her soft skin.
“Are you staying here tonight?”
“I am. I’m just gonna check on Jimin one last time, before I come to bed.”
Namjoon grinned, and Sophie sent him a confused look.
“Ironic, that you hate being babied, but you have been taking care of Jimin all day.”
Sophie smiled and shrugged her shoulders. He gave her a kiss on the cheek before walking to his room.
Sophie squatted down next to the couch, softly placing a hand on Jimins forehead.
“Your fever has gone down, but you’re still a bit pale”, she said, mostly to herself. She rearranged the pillows and blankets.
“You’re babying me”, he mumbled with a pout. Sophie smiled caringly at him.
“Yes, I am. If you don’t like it, I can stop?”, she said, starting to get up, but Jimin grabbed her wrist before she could. She saw a smile tug at the side of his lips.
“No.” He dragged her onto the couch, placed his head in her lap and drew her hands to his hair. “Please.”
She smiled at him and started combing her hands through his hair, observing his dark roots against the white strands. He let out a content sigh, and Sophie could feel him slowly drifting away, while she lazed her fingers through his hair, scratching at his scalp.
When he was asleep, she gently lifted his head, and lowered it onto the couch. She couldn’t help the soft smile spreading on her lips, when she saw his sleeping form. Reaching out, she pushed some hair off his forehead, before getting up to join Namjoon.
Namjoon sent her a dimpled smile from his place on the bed, where he was reading a book. She smiled lazily back at him and quickly got ready for bed, pulling one of his t-shirts over her head and brushing her teeth, before she climbed on the bed and nuzzled into his bare side. He draped his arm over her shoulder and pulled her closer, placing a kiss on the top of her head.
“How was your day?”, she yawned.
“It was good. We’re still working on some of the tracks, but it’s getting there.”
He put down his book and reached for her knee, to pull one of her legs over his, so he could caress her thigh.
“How about you? How long were you here with Jimin and Jungkook?”, he asked, absentmindedly drawing patterns on her leg.
“I only got here around 3. ‘was translating all day,” she mumbled into his chest, letting out small hums of pleasure from his touch.
“Do you have to work tomorrow as well?”
“Yes, but I’ll get up early to finish it. You have the afternoon off, right?”
He hummed in affirmation, and she nuzzled closer to him.
“I’ll be done, so we can hang out, when you get off.”
“You don’t have to stress because of me, love. I can just come by your place tomorrow night instead.”
She tightened her grip on him and shook her head.
“’m not. I want to spend time with you.”
He smiled down at her frame, curled up against him. Her closed eyes and relaxed features. She let out another yawn and he cooed at how adorable she looked, placing a kiss on her cheek, before reaching over to turn off the lights. He pulled the covers over them and cuddled her closer to his chest, so he was spooning her. He fell asleep to her soft breathing and the feeling of her heartbeat against his arm.
Sophie was up bright and early the next morning at 6.30am, getting dressed before making her way to the kitchen for some coffee and moving to the couch with her laptop, so she could get the translations out of the way before this afternoon.
Jimin was still sleeping on the couch, but feeling his forehead, his fever seemed completely gone. She let him sleep and settled on the other couch. Tae joined her some time later, turning on the tv to watch cartoons.
Around 8, Jin got up and started making breakfast. As the smell of food started spreading in the dorm, the others slowly started appearing, either joining them on the couch or joining Jin in the kitchen. The commotion woke Jimin, who went to grab a quick shower. Sophie left her work on the couch to go help Jin set the table and prepare the rest of the food.
As she was cutting some vegetables, she felt a pair of arms lock themselves around her waist and the full weight of his body on hers.
“Ah, Joonie. I can’t carry your entire weight,” she giggled, almost loosing her balance as he leaned on her.
He straightened up a bit but kept his chin on her shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Soph. How long have you been up?”
“Since 6.30,” she hummed, turning her head to get a kiss from him.
He softly pressed his lips to hers, before untangling himself to get a cup of coffee. He poured one for Sophie as well, carrying them both to the table and placing one of them in front of her. She gave him a wide grin, curling both hands around the cup and raising it in front of her face, drawing in a deep breath with her eyes closed, before she took a sip. He smiled softly at her small ritual, before turning towards the food.
They made conversation about who was doing what that day, and what they needed to do the next week. Sophie just ate and listened to their voices, enjoying her coffee and thinking about the translations she had to get done.
“Sophie?”
Hoseoks voice dragged her back to the table.
“Huh? Sorry, what?”
“What are you doing next week?”
“Working, translating,” she shrugged her shoulders. “Oh. And a friend of mine is visiting.”
“Nice, from back home?”, Jimin asked, pouring himself more coffee.
“Yes, from Berlin.”
“Do you have anything planned or are you just gonna leave her alone in the city?”, Jin laughed.
“He is staying with me. And I work. So maybe cooking or going out for beer in the evening.”
Namjoon furrowed his brows.
“She is a he?”, Yoongi asked, eyeing Namjoon.
“Yes?”
“And he is staying at your place?”, Jimin questioned.
“Yes. He is my friend.”
“Why doesn’t he stay at a hotel?”, Namjoon pushed past his gritted teeth.
“Because he’s my friend.”
Sophie looked at him with confusion. What was happening?
“So, he couldn’t find a hotel?”
She could feel his annoyance, but she still wasn’t quite sure why. He couldn’t really be jealous. Could he?
“I don’t know, Joonie. I didn’t ask him. I told him he could stay at my place.” She switched to English to make sure she was expressing herself clearly.
He huffed at her response.
“He’s just passing through. He is traveling through Asia and is only gonna be in Seoul for three days. I don’t get what the problem is? He’s just a friend?”
“Is he coming here to see you or to see Seoul?”
Namjoon were glaring at her, his knuckles white around his coffee cup.
“To see Seoul, I guess. Namjoon, why are you getting upset over this?”
“Why can’t he stay in a hotel?”, he snapped at her.
“Because it’s cheaper to stay at my place, and I want to see him. I haven’t seen him in a year. I’m not gonna tell him to find a hotel.”
She felt her own annoyance stir. Why was he being such an ass about it.
“Please ask him to find a hotel room.”
“No. I’m not gonna do that. He’s staying at my place.”
Sophie crossed her arms and glared at him.
"No, Sophie." His chin was jugged out, his eyes narrowed. "I won't allow it. I won't allow you to have him stay at your place."
Sophie let out a flapper gasped laugh.
"You're kidding me, right? You won't allow it? Really?!" Her eyes were darkening in anger and her pulse were quickening. "Well, it's a good thing, you don't have a say in it, then. This is my life. It's my friend. You don't get to decide." She pushed herself off the chair and looked down at Namjoon.
"You're my girlfriend. Of course, I have a say in who stays at your apartment." He stood up from the table as well, and Sophie took a few steps towards the couch, as she rolled her eyes at him.
“Oh, now I’m your girlfriend? Convenient, how you never called me that before, but now when you want to make my decisions for me, I’m your girlfriend.”
“So what, if I haven’t called you my girlfriend before? Everybody knows, we’re together. And I’m telling you not to let him stay at your place.”
"No, Namjoon. You don't own me. You don't make my choices for me. You don't have a say in this."
She struggled to keep her voice calm.
"Why are you making this into such a big deal? I don't feel comfortable having another man staying with you. Why can't you respect that?", he yelled at her.
"First of all, he's sleeping on the couch, Namjoon! Get over yourself! Second of all, you didn't ask me to respect it. You straight out forbid me from doing it." She put up her hand. "Nah-ah. You don't forbid me from doing things, and you don't tell me how to do things."
Namjoon threw a strained look at Yoongi, who just put his hands up.
"Nope. I'm not getting into this," he said, walking away from the table.
Jimin softly spoke up, making her turn towards him.
"Soph, just try to understand…"
She didn't let him finish, rolling her eyes and walking to the couch to pack up her things.
"You too? What the fuck is wrong with you guys? Is this how you really see women? As property, who has to do as they're told?"
Now Namjoon was the one rolling his eyes.
"Come on, Sophie. You're overreacting. Just calm the fuck down."
"I don't think, I will. No." She walked to the door, turning around in the doorway, "You can call me, when you start seeing me as person, and not an object," she snapped, slamming the door.
Namjoon groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Did she really just say, that we see women as objects?", Tae asked in a confused voice.
"Yes, but maybe that had something to do with Namjoon giving her an order instead of asking her," Jin said, throwing a sour look at the man in question. He glared back at him.
"Oh, and you would have been okay with another man staying at your girlfriend’s apartment?"
"No, but I wouldn't have forbidden her from doing it. You can't boss a partner around like that. You know this, Namjoon. Why on earth would you say that to her?"
"I don't know, okay! I just lost it."
He started pacing the floor, suddenly stopping in his track, when he saw Yoongi standing against the doorframe to the living room.
"I fucked up, didn't I?", he asked him, and Yoongi just gave him a firm nod. Namjoon winched at the disappointment in his eyes and let out a loud groan.
"Fuck!"
He grabbed his jacket of the back of the couch and ran out the door.
