hellooo to my friends who have never drawn a sonic character before but like my twst x sonic au 👋

so ive never been good at tutorials, so don’t expect something detailed here, but i CAN offer some tips! but as a general note, the sonic style doesnt have to look like one way, MANY sonic artists stylize them to fit their own style or what’s comfortable for them! so heres my way of drawing them !

first, lets start with something simple, a hedgehog! specifically, i will show you how to draw Riddle since he is one of the easiest (imho) of the designs ive made to draw! to me, the hedgehog is the basis of all characters really, if you know how to draw a hedgehog you can draw other species! i always start off with this general body shape

most male characters will follow this shape, but not all, for the sake of keeping this simple, i wont go into the different shapes. the main shapes that will be your friend while drawing sonic characters will be the circle and cylinders! usually legs and arms are a little longer as well as hands and feet being just a little bigger. these guys (mobians) are small most of them average in height around anything between 3ft to 4ft

this muzzle shape is universal, every species starts from this shape, if they have a beak or a long snout, it will start from this shape! (the nose placement is what will give the illusion of a longer snout) riddle, like sonic, has a mono eye (which basically means it doesnt connect to the muzzle in the center, you can have two eyes just by connecting them to the muzzle)

ive broken down riddles hair/quills into 4 parts, the quills that frame his face are a lot like amys, his back head quills follow a shape similar to shadows, but they arent as long, then are his bangs and the little hairs that form the heart shape

after that just add the clothes to the base body shape and here he is!

fun fact for my non sonic fans: did you know that male mobians aren’t technically allowed to wear pants? canonically they just arent supposed to! i, however, think this rule is DUMB!! so i give them pants

it takes some practice but remember you can stylize them as much as you want!! they dont have to look like the canon style!! just have fun !!

JULIE SU. JULIE SU. JULIE SU ALWAYS. theres literally so much that could be said and expanded upon w her family and background and not even in the way that canon didnt give her anything at all and you gotta diy everything, shes SUCH A FUN CHARACTER shes so funny and such a jerk and everyone writes her off as "girl knuckles" so fast that they wont even LOOK at how much unique personality she has and how UNIQUE her relationship w knuckles is LIKE.... ken penders actually gave js a fun and unique and dope personality, the FANS are the ones writing her off as girl knuckles. ummmmm its not looking good for you people! and theres the assumption ig that all the romances in archie just suck bc theres sort of a lot of them, obviously i dont like every one COUGHken and sallyCOUGH but like ToT KNUXSU IS SO SO SO GOOD.... THE WAY THEY TALK TO EACH OTHER IS SO GOOD like you guys wipe every characters personality to put them in a ship, then talk about knuxsu as if thats the issue with it and why you dont like it, but. what are the things you hate most about shadow? i think i was mostly neutral-negative towards him but fandom blorbofication made me so instinctually averse to anything about him i cant really pinpot the ones that annoy me the most

i'll admit at first it was mostly because i was annoyed by the fandom's approach to him but i try my best not to get swayed by other peoples perception of sonic and i went back to look at the source material so i can bitch and back myself up. lmao.

i think i just really hate the direction of his character post sa2. i think there's plenty of story to be wrought from shadow- i say i wish he stayed dead after sa2 but thats not 100% true. i think the amnesia arc they went with post sa2 was the dumbest fucking thing they could do with a character who we spent an entire game (sa2) figuring out his past in. like sa2 is so lore heavy that having the core character of the game become amnesiac was stupid i fucking hate it. and it doesnt even get resolved in sonic heroes we have to get shadow the hedgehog 2005 to get a better answer and if im honest even then its still immensely confusing on what, exactly, they're trying to do with shadow.

like imagine if they didnt go the route of amnesia. a shadow that has to fully reckon with the fact that he nearly ended the world. a shadow that has to immediately acknowledge the events of sa2, his grief, geralds actions, and where this leaves him. amnesia shadow jsut doesnt do shadow figuring out where he stands in regard to his past enough justice. idk i just with the amnesia thing literally never happened it was so stupid and i think it fucked up his character post sa2.

but other than that, i really do hate how he keeps getting pushed into things that he really shouldnt be pushed in. i think the sonic movies and sonic prime are the most egregorious examples. i really dont understand why sonic prime, who's purpose was to explore alternative dimensions, didn't focus on sonic and blaze. why was shadow a core part of this show. and the sonic movies skipping sa1 just to get to sa2 to have shadow in the universe to milk as much money as they can frustrates me so fucking much. why is shadow confirmed before amy. also shadow in the twitter take overs when hes not even in the fucking games??? like sonic frontiers and sonic colors... i'll admit i hate sega using him as a marketing ploy. shadow to me is a character that should be placed in the reserves- he's really only useful for big, world ending events. otherwise whats the point of having him around, especially since they don't want to be consistent in his characterization.

speaking of charaterization... im not sure how to phrase this but i think a lot of modern presentations of shadow, in fandom and through sega, really forget how sa2 presented shadow, and his relationship to sonic. i hate how shadow keeps getting casted as sonic's edgy doppleganger whos just picking fights for the sake of a fight. like if you want that metal sonic is right fucking there and always has a good reason to pick a fight with sonic. and i really hate how sonic & shadow are not always casted as equals. theres an underlying respect to their relationship that i think gets forgotten. shadow does respect sonic- he calls him the ultimate lifeform during the finalhazard battle- he acknowledges and respects sonics ability, tenacity, and simplicity. he respects sonic! and the two are equals! they're supposed to be foils of each other- of what letting your losses define you as. they're equals! they're two sides of the same coin! i don't know how to phrase this without going on an insane tangent i just feel like people don't entirely encompass what them being foils means.

anyway. idk. i don't like shadow post sa2 is the simplest answer to this lol.

SONIC PRIME RAMBLES!!!!

SPOILERS FOR SEASON TWO AHEAD!!!

(sorry if the screenshots are a bit mushy i was taking them quick)

firstly of course id like to mention these two. i love how when sonic is playing around and talking to himself, shadow just nods along. he didnt tell sonic to shut the fuck up, he just waited until he got his zoomies out. he even slightly participated! i just love how when shadow is cooled down a bit he’s actually pretty used to sonic and doesnt mind his silliness, it only makes him genuinely upset when it’s not the right time or place. and sure this also isnt the right time or place, but seeing as hes been blessed with literal gay magic i think shadow mightve given him a pass. that or shadow is never actually as pissed as he tries to be. which i also believe, because he plays around during fights. i think hes having fun too. hes just trying to ignore it in favor of the overall mission, which is completely fair and is kinda needed. without shadow sonic would have no fucking clue what to do hed just be running around spitting off cheesy one liners like an idiot, but without sonic shadow would be all alone with nobody but space rocks and his pissy attitude. sonic does provide shadow with fun, and everyone needs a little fun and positivity. sonic makes him happy and keeps him entertained but he’d never admit that. they balance each other out in such a nice way. they need each other in more ways than one in my opinion.

this leads me into my favorite thing about this show: sonic is not simply the hero. he’s not just saving the day and that’s that like he thinks. it’s much more complicated. lots of people he’s met seem to have clashing opinions or views of the world, and that’s not a bad thing! most of rouges variants want to just hand over the shard and get it over with, which wouldnt help in the long run but is A REASONABLE THING TO THINK!!! shadow was never malicious he was just pissed off and he’s RIGHT! hell, i dont even think nine is wrong either!!! hes never even seen the reality that sonic is wishing for! all of these people simply want to be happy but theyre from completely different worlds in a very VERY dangerous situation, of course theres going to be conflict amongst people who ARENT the villains! because the world doesn’t revolve around sonic and in situations like these its hard to find a middle ground between COUNTLESS AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE FROM ALL AROUND THE MULTIVERSE!! i think it perfectly demonstrates how all of these people arent bad people, they simply dont view things the way sonic does and thats ok. theyre all just scared and confused and in a life or death situation. well, except for dread. that motherfuckers just crazy.

i do think nine should. maybe chill 😭😭. but i think sonic shouldve at least talked with the kid a bit more about the overall goal cuz damn. i like the parallel between shadow saying “theyre not your real friends.” and nine saying hes real. because shadow was right in a sense. nine is NOT tails. he’s REAL, sure, but hes not the real TAILS. he isnt the real tails and hes not sonics friend just because sonic knows a version of him. that doesnt mean they cant BE friends but sonic being quick to assume that nine will end up like tails was just wrong on his part. sonic was quick to assume so many things about nine because of his relation to tails, and he shouldn’t have done that. he should’ve listened to shadow. it’s all “ooo shadows such a fuckin debby downer party pooping asshole” until the universe still isnt put together and THEN people consider that yeah maybe he was a little right. harsh, but right. literally if shadow was able to go into those portals i promise you this shit wouldve been over before we even got a season two. like genuinely i feel like they keep shadow in the void simply because they need to prolong the season. and i love the content dont get me wrong but please just let him go with sonic that motherfucker really does need a babysitter. i think we need BOTH of them in the actual shatterspaces. like i said, they balance each other out. if shadow was to go on his own i honestly think he wouldnt do too good either. hed just ignore everyone else and try to get things done quickly without needing help and sure he might get a little far but eventually hed need the help and he wouldnt have it. so i think sonic and shadow together should finally be allowed to do this shit fully together so that shadow can do what he has to do and sonic can go around making friends with multiverse people and saving them from robots on the side. its a win-win people!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

i do like the fact that shadows speed is artificial so it isnt the same as sonics, or at least thats what i like to think. i know hes stuck in the void because of the chaos control he did (i think) and sonics speed might not be the only factor but i do think its interesting how they cant do the same things

but truly i think the only reason the writers are keeping them seperate is because they know damn well if they teamed up full time theyd start kissing eventually

do au squared jesse's feelings of inadequacy or self hatred mean he ever neglects baby, physically or emotionally?

yeah :( i know im number one conflict avoider but giving a 24 year old drug addict who experiences The horrors a literal infant to take care of is not going to go perfectly. he makes a lot of mistakes early on due to ignorance and sometimes due to being high or just not paying the right attention, but thats part of the learning curve and theyre more like direct concrete mistakes that he can be like "oh shit" and try to fix. as the show goes on and things just continually Get So Much Worse though, jesse understandably feels Tormented and like hes the source of the evil thats slowly poisoning his life and that really exacerbates his ongoing inner conflict of "wanting to be the sole provider for baby and not trusting anyone else to take care of her, but also feeling disgustingly inadequate and like his poison is eventually going to destroy baby too". when hes in his really low pizza sonic crackhouse place, he struggles the most with this conflict and does emotionally neglect baby because he Thinks this is the correct course of action. he's a murderer and the bad guy and baby shouldn't even be close to him. he leaves her with demi whenever he possibly can and is distant and sad when she's around, feeling even worse every time he looks at her. obviously, baby doesnt understand wtf his damage is and gets upset as they spend more time apart both physically and emotionally, which just reinforces his notion that he's bad for her.

jesse's on the verge of straight up handing over baby to demi despite the absolute agony that would cause him when a night comes that throws everything back into perspective for him. it's shortly after the "gus decides to invest in jesse and keep him from killing himself" arc begins where the Party is beginning to wind down, but theres still some people around and hes still using intermittently. hes coming down from a high downstairs when he hears baby crying upstairs in her room, which he always keeps closed and locked with one of those child proof (and meth head proof) locks so no "guests" can never enter her room. her crying doesnt just trigger that parent, "let me go see what they need" reflex: it Hurts him. terrified that someone got in and is hurting her, he hurries up the stairs and fumbles with the lock for a long moment before finally managing to let himself in. there's no one else there, thank god, just baby wailing in her crib. he picks her up, automatically checking to see if she's wet (nope), then notices that she feels a little warm. he knows by now that babies get sick all the time—"u look away for five minutes and they'll start running a fever," mike will say to him later on during a drop—but that realization still feels awful. jesse's about to have the "i did this and baby needs to be away from me" thought and call demi when baby makes her grabby hands. desperate for a hold. desperate for Him. he obliges, holding her close and feeling her little body wiggle around to eliminate any possible space between them. she wants him. in spite of Everything, she wants him specifically. he ends up sitting there in her room for a long while, just cuddling her as she cries and eventually calms down and nuzzles his neck even though his scruff is probably all scratchy. there's stuff to do (the baby thermometer is downstairs and he should still have some infant tylenol around), but he just sits and cuddles her first. baby still loves him. he hasn't poisoned her and the distance has just been hurting the both of them instead of protecting her. he loves his baby so, so much and he promises her in his head that he's going to be better for both of them. they both deserve it.

knuckles rlly likes like- horror movies? and shadow is kinda terrified of his favorite

shadow plays guitar, knuckles is one of the only people he plays for. the other being rouge (theyre so sibling) and in the past maria

off the guitar vein, they got together after shadow played knuckles some taylor swift song

knukcles likes musicals, one of his favorites being falsettos. his favorite song is what would i do because it makes him think of shadow

i like to think they probably cook for eachother a lot

on from that last one, knuckles is one of the few people shadow shared the recipes for things from the arc with

i bet they've stayed up listening to music and just enjoying eachothers company so many times before

sometimes knuckles just talks to shadow. not really about anything that would seem special to most. it could be ranting about a show, or a person who annoyed him but shadow listens, and he thinks its very special.

shadow has a notebook about knuckles' interests and whatever so if he ever happens to lose his memory again he doesnt forget the important stuff

shadow probably has some kind of night terrors about the arc and stuff that knuckles has to try and console him through

knuckles is literally a fucking GOD at thr flute but he never has time to play with the emerald and such so every now and then shadow takes over for him so he can go play

movie nights they have movie nights and they talk and eat popcorn and hug and I WANT WHAT THEY HA

sometimes knuckles walks in on shadow, rouge, and tails having some kind of family fight (theyre literally found family u guys) and he just. walks away slowly

theyve probably trolled sonic on twitter with the help of tails multiple times

Sonic, Nine and Protagonist Centered Morality.

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t make this post to say people should be calling Sonic [Insert Insult Here], just that a lot of the things people, (specifically Nine’s detractors) complain about Nine doing also applies to Sonic.

1. Being a “Traitor.”

To make sure there aren’t any misunderstandings on what makes a Person a Traitor, let’s look at the definition.

Sonic Told Nine that 1. The Surprise in The Grim is probably cool and 2. he couldn’t wait to hear more. 3. They will go after visiting Ghost Hill.

Sonic technically didn’t say the words that he will go but He said the lines directly after Nine made it clear that He wants Sonic to SEE what’s in The Grim. Plus as we all saw and Heard, Sonic not only refused to go, He dismissed Nine’s feelings about The Grim. So Sonic can’t use the classic “Technically I never said I would X” excuse.

Plus when using exact words, From Sonic’s own mouth, their plan was to 1. Visit Ghost Hill. 2. Look at Ghost Hill’s Shard. 3. Look at The Blueprint and finally 4. They will go to The Grim. (No mentions of Fixing Green Hill or specifying that he wants the prism fixed in Ghost Hill)

While it can be argued that Sonic meant he will focus on The Grim after The Original Green Hill is restored, with the possibility that The Shatterverse will vanish, Sonic might not be able to keep the Promise. So even when using Sonic’s meaning, he’s still guilty.

Yet with exceptions, most fans only hold Nine accountable for being a “Traitor,” and say “Nine betrayed Sonic”. In fact, more than one person actually forgot the deal/plan that SONIC proposed and went back on.

2. Wanting X to live in an environment that isn’t X’s preferred one.

Both Nine and Sonic wanted the other to live in their preferred place.

Nine directly stated that he wants to live in the Grim on multiple occasions and he wanted Sonic to stay with him.

Nine can’t travel between the worlds on his own. Making him stuck wherever Sonic leaves him. Even if Sonic takes Nine back to The Grim, Nine will no longer be able to survive there as there’s no food or water.

Plus unlike when Sonic asked Thorn to give up The Green Shard, Sonic doesn’t try promising to come back to The Grim and help Nine live there. (While it can be argued that it might not have worked, at the time Sonic threatened to take The Purple Shard, Sonic hadn’t yet broken his promise to go to The Grim.)

Also Quite a few of Sonic’s lines can give off the impression that Sonic was hoping for Nine to live in Green Hill or Ghost Hill.

When defending Nine to Shadow, Sonic described Ghost Hill as Nine’s Reality. (Though it can be argued that Sonic meant the Shatterverse in general.)

Sonic talked about how He wanted Nine to see Green Hill.

Sonic described Green Hill as “Our Home”, albeit this was likely intended to be a sign of Sonic projecting Tails onto Nine.

Sonic discussed how he was hoping Nine would befriend the prime characters.

Several fans stated that Nine was foolish to believe that Sonic would accept The Grim and claimed that he forgot what Sonic said about The Grim.

However not as many called Sonic a fool for forgetting that The Grim is the only place That Nine feels safe and happy in and as I showed above, Nine did remember, it’s actually SONIC that forgot his words about The Grim.

3. Being “Selfish” and/or “a Hypocrite”

While in The Grim, Nine made Palm Trees because he remembered how Sonic mentioned them previously. Nine specifically said “SONIC’S gonna love this”. Nine wants to make the perfect world in The Grim.

Things Sonic sacrificed for Nine and/or Nine wanted Sonic to sacrifice.

The Original Green Hill, which is already gone and the entire shatterverse might die if it comes back.

Sonic’s comfort zone, which doesnt really count much because Sonic can use his powers to leave any time he wants and because of the different time zones, He can be gone for hours without Nine noticing.

Let’s recap everything Nine sacrificed and/or Sonic unintentionally asked Nine to sacrifice due to not thinking things through.

Nine’s safety and well-being.

Nine’s happiness.

Nine’s Shard, AKA Nine’s only way to survive in The Grim.

Nine’s life.

Nine’s comfort zone.

Sonic also rarely considered what Nine might want and only hoped Nine would change his mind. Yet for the most part, only Nine got deemed “Selfish and/or Hypocritical”.

4. Risking Others Lives.

Nine refused to save The Original Green Hill, which means That The Prime Characters will stay in whatever state they are in for who knows how long. Sonic refused to leave The Original Green Hill be, which puts the Shatterverse at risk because Ghost Hill, New Yoke, Boscage Maze, No Place and The Grim all are a piece of the original.

Originally it appeared that Nine was just sad after screaming that he is real. Nine didn’t completely snap until AFTER Sonic unintentionally revealed that he didn’t consider that Nine might vanish if the prism is fixed nor did he make any precautions to prevent it from happening.

Sonic doesn’t think things through much so he doesn’t realize what he’s doing. But his dialogue when Dread and His crew were chasing him had caused suspicions that the idea that everyone and everything will vanish to be part of the originals had crossed his mind, at least briefly.

Sonic’s line was “ You guys are gonna feel really bad about this when you think back and remember how awful you guys were treating me when I’m only trying to help”. While it’s possible that he meant “You guys will regret it eventually when you hear/learn my side of the story”, it can be argued “Why mention “Help” if He’s not helping them? and/or why not specify who he’s helping?”

Especially back when Ghost of a Chance first aired, most only acknowledged how Nine stopped Sonic from saving His Prime Friends, while not as many mentioned Sonic’s potential mass Genocide.

5. Why they did what they did.

Nine has been traumatized, bullied, ignored and he grew up under a dictatorship. So it makes sense why he hates New Yoke and He wants to live in The Grim because it’s the least likely to remind him of his trauma. Nine wants to save The Grim from Sonic.

(New Yoke was identical to Green Hill until The Takeover. No Place has Pirates, who often commit Piracy and Dread’s crew was considering Committing Murder on more than one occasion. Boscage Maze and everyone there is really wild.)

Sonic has shown signs of having PTSD from when the Prism broke and he also appears to be going through the 5 stages of Grief. Sonic wants to save the Prime Characters from Himself.

They both had difficulty understanding each other and in communication.

Yet, only Sonic’s issues are acknowledged by everyone while Nine’s issues weren’t. Instead, plenty even developed a case of “Self Serving Memory”.

Cops and robbers - underscores: new underscores era hello anyone rockin wit it???? ME im rocking with jt thank u very much!! that one song count of three (you can eat $#@!), which ive heard is very good :3, was the end of the fishmonger era for them, where the "thing" was apparently that underscores wanted guitar on each track. still trying to find The thing about this eras sound, and maybe its the deeming it "the Wallsocket era", but to me everything just feels very buzzy, very electrically alive idk. like theres just this CRT/fluorescent light hum that backs the bass at the beginning. and the middle section just sounds like im listening to a fucking tesla coil make a pop song. shit Rocks. and Fucks. i give this one the Makes Violet Sing And Dance Around In Her Room Alone award this season, which is something i will absolutely be doing from now on and will not forget for the fall hehe :3

光の中へ (hikari no naka e)- Kessoku Band: yeah yeah i know there was kessoku band on the last one BUT THEY MADE MORE SO I LISTENED TO IT. they have such good push and pull with their tunes. like the moments of silence/slowing down before going all out. the quick drum interjections to pick things back up again. like nijikas fuckin getting it!!!! actually i read something recently about the critical reception to kessoku band, the self titled album, that makes a similar point. they were saying that although the album is just good j-rock on its own, the strength of the individual instruments and the texture of the songs themselves embodies the characters in your mind. like i listened to the beginning a bit closer one time and heard the little shreds the guitar was giving at the top and it instantly made me think like "oh shit bocchis fucking tearing it up!" soooo good instantly one of my faves from them.

Natural Disasters - Enon: love me a song with a strange guitar hook! ive heard this bands like top 2 songs (which include this one) bc it was just a night of spotify surfing, but those two songs are quite good. very boucy, good energy. makes me wanna do the bounce in place dance and flail my arms as i sing only the chorus and maybe try to approximate the sounds of the lyrics i dont know. sounds like a good time to me!

Overflow - Een Glish, Tyfty, Ben Glish: eek! so ai voiced songs specifically rap is very good to me. that family ties edit with spongebob and patrick is probably one of my favorite pieces of music. but this artist is v interesting to me :3 een glish is a vocaloid (? not sure if entirely correct but u get what im getting at) made from the google translate ladys voice. and its GOOD this one specifically is very catchy but she has bars too!!! check out rap game bob ross too, and also the remix with bars from SONIC HELLO? im giving this one the Sound of the Summer distinction bc not only is it a very summery jam, but it is the one im really telling u to check out if u get the chance. lots of good jams here.

The Flag Is Raised - Asian Glow: in case we couldn't drain enough this summer, asian glow put out this really neat interpretation of one of my faves off bladee and ecco2k's recent masterpiece, Crest. follows in the footsteps of many a bladee cover for me where the cover often plays over the actual song in my head. like i expect certain isntrumentation when i listen to the original that is only present in the cover but that just means theyre both good ! the guitars and the cymbals all over this make this version feel so shiny... aww and they use the little sigil ring from Crest on the cover for it too :"3

THE FLIES - Operation Sodasteal: think i mentioned this in the tags of a post that im sure uve all read before coming to class today, but ive been listening to a lot of these guys recently! just some furry emo nightcore rock that sounds plucked right out of 2007. the one vocalist, slaney(in)famous i think? im not confident which is which, has such a good voice for it too like they have all the good vocal inflections of ur typical lead pop punk vocalist, and i usually just end up singing the lyrics like them bc im just a silly little mirror huh?

okay okay i finally have the brain to answer another headcanon post. so!

-knuckles loves and protects the chao on angel island with his LIFE. he named every single one of them even though there are a LOT and he remembers all their favorite fruits and stuff and he just. cares them sm 💚

-kinda stole this one from @maltdown but it stuck in my head so: amy has sooo many hobbies and she always wants to learn new types of arts and crafts and new instruments and stuff but there isnt NEARLY enough time in the day to do all she wants to do. she does get overwhelmed by this btw. (she just like me fr-)

-amy always shows a good face around people and doesn't like showing her faults but oh my god. the executive dysfuncction on this girl. also she's bipolar so she can sometimes just. shut down for a week. or go manic and end up overwhelming herself, or spending too much time doing something she shouldn't be doing, or spending way too much money. she'll only show this side to sonic or knuckles because she knows she can trust them to help her keep the image she wants to keep around others.

-she made friendship bracelets for everyone btw. she enjoys making bracelets so much that this isnt something she keeps special for just her best friends. she makes bracelets for anyone she thinks had an effect of some sort on her in life and she makes matching ones for herself. she ends up with basically a whole sleeve of bracelets, each one different to remind her of the person it represents. she doesnt always wear them but she makes sure to on special occasions

-sonic once tried on shadow's shoes and he HATED it. whats the point if you cant feel the ground underneath your feet. whats the point if you dont constantly move your legs really fast. sonic doesn't want to GLIDE he wants to RUN

-sonic is faster than shadow btw. if you even care

-back to amy's bracelets. she gave one to eggman btw. it has a bead with an angry emoji on it

-amy loooves playing animal crossing. she invites all her friends to her island. sonic doesn't play the game nornally so she had him make a character on her switch and build a house on her island. she likes to leave him gifts even tho he's probs not gonna play again any time soon

-sonic loves reading and fantasy action is his favorite. he loves all the ways that people can create worlds and interpret worlds to their own needs and stories

-sonic's favorite flowers are dandelions (i am NOT projecting) because they're strong and they carry with the wind...

-amy will purposefully leave many dandelions to grow in her garden for him even though she likes to have a variety of different flowers there

-sonic is really into how to train your dragon. he got tails into it to. something about being different and finding a friend thats different, yknow

ok so sonic prime season 2. time for me to be a sonic nerd, so spoilers ahead.

one thing tho! i have been watching to show in japanese dub because i wanted to hear the same VAs from the past, but i dont know japanese and if anyone does and is watching it in japanese, id love to know if there have been any noteworthy differences in the script. It seems pretty close to the english script though from the very little I knowledge (i imagine it is quite close due to the translation being english *to* japanese)

anyways. im gonna mostly cover the characterization, and bring up plot when its relevant. but first thing to establish- prime's characterization isnt inherently bad imo, and its okay to make changes for different kinds of media. i still have opinions of course, but i dont think those opinions affect the fact that i do think these changes work for what prime is generally.

some of this bounces off thoughts i and i know others voices in season 1.

sonic is very energetic, maybe a bit too much, but shows nowadays do tend to be very fast and snappy. and of course, VA do more work with implying the characterization, which is where my difference lies in impression. Jun'ichi Kanemaru has always been The Sonic for me, as much as i do have nostalgia over some english ones (my fave english sonic and shadow has always been Jason Griffith). And his work in prime sounds much like any sonic role before of ourse-- though the actual script is kinda where my opinion changes but that more has to do with the Hip language and present day quips found in many american english kid shows. its expected.

I love Jun'ichi still having his typical sonic quirks in prime because it does make me feel like sonic still Works the same. his energy may be a bit different but it does remind me of how things like Sonic X treated him for being paced for a tv show. Also i REALLY love that the japanese script had sonic speak english. if you listened to him in japanese in the past, you'd know that Jun'ichi gets to say english often- those are often his quips, to "americanize" him as sonic's intent was always to vibe like that. The main thing missing from sonic is that lazy/laid back energy he has, really. and i know others agree. but i get for a fast paced show that wouldnt work well. but sonic can be a bit careless and selfish even, and that doesnt seem to happen much or at all.

shadow is one i have more thoughts on, and its no surprise many others do because shadow is a very specific kind of character that isnt easy to get right. Even as i listen to Koji Yusa, the guy who's played shadow since the start, the way i see shadow act and the script makes him feel way more off than sonic despite that. Within the first episode of s2 (and maybe the first of s1? where they were raving n stuff?) shadow is aggressive, and i think thats a good descriptor for him in this show.... my main issue with him being aggressive is just the episode opening with shadow just beating the shit out of sonic lol. i get that he is mad but we see him just.. quietly fighting sonic and beating him into the ground?? and i just don't get that choice. What would i want then? for shadow to be more vocal at least, while beating him up lol. i would want him to angrily voice why hes mad. they get the "quiet" idea of shadow but took it the wrong way. and the reason why it feels even more out of place is that its sonic hes beating up with no voiced reason. that is not someone he casually fights so hard. so if he were too decide this, thats why id wanna hear shadow talking shit too, i would like to know why he's mad enough to do this to someone he doesnt do this to. it kinda means a lot for him to act that way towards sonic- he doesnt do this in the games at all, i think many would agree shadow isnt aggressive at all, not in the way of being outwardly violent. other wise i dont have any issues with his general dialog, or what choices he has made or his goals. they actually feel pretty in character. its just the way they have displayed shadow's aggression toward sonic that i just dont care for.

Much as I thought this abt the last season, I don't think I can say much about all the other characters from different dimensions... they're all their own thing, ya know? And they're fine. But I was always wishing that the main Eggman from Yoke was designed a bit more like our main Eggman. I don't hate his design. On the eggmans in general, theyre fine. theyre all supposed to be funny stereotypes but they just arent interesting as characters to the story, except for the main one i guess. also hate that fucking baby. i would maybe bear him if he was like, a 5 year old. you have the brooding/annoying teen and you could have the dumb whiny toddler. idk. but i hate that baby.

Next important think though- metal sonic. I think the new design isn't bad, it's a unique take and its neat. But there is something much more aggressive about the typical design that i wish they stuck to. :/ it's sharp. A little *too* close to sonic. You know? But his personality. Oh man. I get it's fitting the "modern" almost cute electronic emoticon face being flashy, and again the fast pacing. I thought I'd enjoy Jun's acting at least but the writing is just Not my thing and ruins it for me. I would have enjoyed something more akin to the metal Amy from that world? Deeper voice? More robotic? Maybe they could have leaned into that loose, almost reckless and impulsive side of sonic. i get they wanted to exaggerate his show personality but making him annoying as hell just made the interactions so overwhelming. Also this "metal sonic" is being called Chaos Sonic. Interestingly the English subs are calling him Super Sonic? Might just be an error.

anyways next onto some story details... in general i do like the plot. its good! has some nice drive for it to keep going. shadow finally coming in to explain more helped and now nine coming in to take control of the plot after shadow is a good lead for a new season. i hope shadow gets more screentime if they get a new season. maybe taking ONE key guy from the other dimensions and then shadow as the s3 "main cast" would be good. and then i would like to not see the dimensions much at all again, or you know. new ones?

but like. i gotta say it, i am a bit tired of some of some dimensions.. ESPECIALLY the fucking pirate one. get me OUT of that blue ass place please!!! they spent way too much time there and i do wonder if it was to have less of a load on rendering. good christ. i never want to see that place again.

i think the issue too with shadow not showing up was they really set up how he needs to help sonic. they were a team. and shadow should have really bugged sonic more about him fucking up. Nine got to communicate with sonic (and barely did for most of it) and i think shadow should have had that ability more. shadow REALLY should have seen sonic fucking up, it would give even more reason to be weary about him by the end, where they let nine do his thing. we couldve gotten an explosive angry shadow reacting like "what the fuck is wrong with you i knew you couldnt do this" or something.

the plot is just fine but the characterization and how the characters affect the plot can kind of be where things go wrong i think. considering season 2 is actually season 1, id hope maybe theyll improve on an actual next season.

one day i will make a beautiful full rewrite of sonic forces like ive always dreamed of doing since i was a 14 year old girl

(ok so um. i started writing stuff in the tags and it accidentally got so long i went far beyond the tag limit. whoops. so this is just an actual post now. read more for my insane sonic forces rewrite ramblings)

i want to so fucking bad. every time i think about the wasted potential that is forces it makes me so depressed ToT i cant help but love forces despite it being garbage. the soundtrack is banging, the character customization is fun, i LOVE infinite, it attempted a darker story like the good ol days..... its so fucking bad but there were so many cool ideas and it drives me insane

also its one of the few sonic games i've actually played firsthand. purely because it was free on like the playstation game pass thing or whatever its called. and i did genuinely have fun with it even if it was pretty easy. also for the longest time of me being a sonic fan, forces was the latest mainline game. that era is when i got into sonic so idk. i cant help but look fondly on it even though its writing choices drive me fucking batty

while thinking about all this i came up with an interesting idea. so. there's something so fucking cool to me about infinite and the avatar's dynamic like. the way that infinite, despite his powers... him being a mobian and that scene of him flying right beside you and stuff..... idk its like he feels more on your level then some like ancient god villain or whatever.

that flying side-by-side scene esp inspired this but ANYWAY. what if, to make him AND the avatar character more interesting.... they were like. childhood friends or something. or just knew each other in the past in general. that would add SO much depth to their interactions within the game of like. infinite calling them weak. flying side by side. infinite's whole classic "character trying to reinvent themself" thing.

like infinite is using the power of the phantom ruby, trying to become strong because shadow called him weak and everything <- which btw this motivation has gotta change/be expanded upon cause this shit is still so silly. shadow called him gay and that's infinite's whole motive. cmon now we can do better than that

ANYWAYS. but that desperation from infinite to become an entirely new person - changing his name, wearing the mask, etc etc. that could become even more interesting if you add someone into the mix who knew infinite BEFORE his transformation.

and i know i know the avatar is supposed to be able to be projected on and stuff whatever whatever. but like idk man. plenty of protagonists have pasts that are part of the story even tho they're customizable. and besides it wouldnt be like a full backstory for the avatar. just the fact that they knew infinite once upon a time. and maybe something happened that split them apart or something. idk. but whatever happened between then and the events of the game wouldn't be elaborated upon, so you'd still be able to come up with your own story for your character if you want to.

and then the avatar's presence in the story could present a conflict for infinite. maybe despite him trying to act like he doesnt care, he like. hesitates. or lets the avatar go at some point. or something. and that gets him in trouble with eggman <- on that note. MORE CONFLICT BETWEEN EGGMAN AND INFINITE. im a little fuzzy on that aspect of the game but from what i can remember that never really goes anywhere. i want infinite being fickle about eggman's orders to MEAN SOMETHING!!!!!

also. i guess infinite could still ambiguously die at the end. but he'd definitely survive and show up in a later game, a la shadow. i need him to. my special boy.

anyways but going back to the avatar and infinite. i rlly think this could make both of them far more interesting than they are now. infinite rlly doesnt have like. an arc over the course of the story? hes just kinda. there. we get his backstory but in the present he kinda just. fights you a few times and then he dies. the end. this would actually give him something to do during the story, even if it was just like. brooding over why he let the avatar go or something.

and like..... i feel like forces SHOULD focus a lot on infinite? at least more so than the actual game did. like it doesnt have to be a shadow sa2 situation where like the whole game is centered around his story but i honestly... wouldnt be opposed to that either. like the war stuff is not that interesting im gonna be real.

also btw OBVIOUSLY the whole "sonic being imprisoned and tortured for 6 months with zero consequences" thing would be changed. that shit is so stupid and pointless. idk for sure if i'd just get rid of it outright or alter it, but probably the latter. cause like it IS actually an interesting scenario: how would these characters react to sonic being presumably dead? (long-term. 06 does not count LOL)

like that genuinely is a fascinating scenario to explore but i think one of the main things is that it would have to take place soon after it happened. none of this 6 months later amy wistfully going "sometimes i still dream sonic is with us....." shit, that is so dumb. WHAT is the point!!!

i'd want the story to start like fairly soon after sonic gets captured. and it wouldnt just be "sonic characters act as war generals" simulator. if we're doing this we are going ALL in. full focus on the characters' emotions and mental states which fluctuate over time. at the beginning they're hopeful but as more time passes with no sign of sonic and them losing more and more land to eggman, things start to crack. that could genuinely be so interesting to watch as long as it was treated with the actual seriousness it deserves instead of the cop-out edginess with no repercussions that the actual game has.

speaking of this part. TAILSSSSSSSS tails in forces was the wasted opportunity of the century. im gonna be real after having so much time to think about it, i really dont think that tails cowering after sonic was defeated was THAT egregious. i definitely think it could've been handled better, considering he had both beat chaos before and thought sonic had died before, BUT. tails is, at the end of the day, still a little kid. no matter how much hes grown and everything, thinking his big brother is fucking dead is probably still gonna fuck him up big time!!!

i also think that the idea of tails out on his own is SO fucking interesting and i am so mad every day that they barely did anything with that. maybe tails DID stay with everyone else at first. maybe after enough time everyone else presumed sonic to be dead and tails got upset because he knows sonic can't be dead, he always comes back, he did last time this happened right? and he left one day without telling anyone, attempting to try and find sonic himself.

and then he comes across omega all trashed up, and him fixing him, oh, idk, ACTUALLY MATTERS? (crazy i know) omega gets fully restored (plus some upgrades, of course) and it becomes the two of them against the world. throwing in a little craziness here but what if omega sticks with tails bcuz tails (who is definitely um. a lil more fucked up from everything) promises that hes directly interfering with eggman here, and that he'll actually allow omega to full on KILL eggman if/when they get the opportunity to. (tails is not fucking around) i just really need these two working together to be a thing.

rouge and shadow could also be MIA. i dont know if i'd want them as part of the larger resistance, they'd probably just be trying to help stuff on their own, but maybe at some point they'd realize that shit is really fucked this time and the only way they'll be able to stop eggman's reign of terror is by joining forces (lol) with the larger group. power of friendship and teamwork and all that, as is forces' main theme.

anyways. this is kind of all ive got swirling in my brain right now. i dont know how i'd tackle sonic's imprisonment itself. i definitely dont want to be in a position like the canon story where sonic should 100% be traumatized by what happened. bcuz i feel like thats probably a bit much lol... so maybe keep him imprisoned that whole time but get rid of the torture. idk, if we want to really get crazy with it we could throw in a whole thing where its like hey eggman why arent you just killing him? isnt that what you've wanted to do this whole time? funny how you're... keeping him alive like that. isnt easy bringing yourself to kill this kid you've basically watched grow up huh? even if he is your biggest enemy. idk that could result in way too much going on. but it could give a reason for sonic being kept alive + a reason why his imprisonment wasnt too crazy bad. just spitballing here.

ANYWAYS ANYWAYS. for real thats it I NEED TO GO TO BED. good god. maybe i'll rb this post at some point with more ideas if i have them. hell maybe i'll even write this whole thing someday..... regardless. GOOD NIGHT NEW YORK CITY!!!!!!!!!!

Sonic boom season 3 ep where omega uses his experience in law to defend shadow in court. (he was accused of killing fastidious beaver and no one really cares but still. Murder. He also is 100% guilty) Edgebot from the Brude episode is the prosecutor. Omega manages to pin the blame on sonic somehow and then fastidious beaver just. Walks into the court room. Turns out he just got knocked out instead of actually killed(which was the goal). No one knows how they managed an autopsy without actually harming him. The episode ends with T.W. barker asking Omega to defend him in court against charges of extortion. Omega gets paid for none of this btw.

HELP? i already wanted to come up with an episode that was a parody of ace attorney and you just fed me thank u. also you are so based for the multiple references to my other posts no one normal would say this but im so glad i turned on anon on tumblr dot com

anyway lemme add on to this:

its obvious from the get go to the audience that shadows guilty. not because hes a bad liar or anything he just doesnt care to pretend. what does he have to lose? his freedom??? the prison doesnt want him they know better than to attempt to detain him. his reputation??? right, because hes so clearly known for his innocent harmless and gentle demeanor with everyone. hell if he goes down as the one who killed fastidious beaver, people will finally take him seriously again after being forced into so many comedic scenarios for this blasted shows universe. the only thing stopping him from standing up and outright confirming that he did it is that hed never hear the end of it from omega whos high key excited for his debut as a lawyer

tw barker wanted to continue his lawyer career so he practically begged shadow to hire him but like... he does c/rypto on the side and shadows an anticapitalist king so he essentially told him to eff off

the "courtroom" is just meh burger reorganized so half of the tables represent the prosecutors desk and the other half the defenses. the restaurant counter is the judges chair. there may be an actual courthouse they can do this at but after that one time omega left the restaurant he got placed under house arrest or should it be called restaurant arrest? is meh burger technically his home or……… he cant leave or else a self destruct switch will activate is what im trying to say

(hi its me from the future <3 apparently anons idea resonated so hard with me that i got kinda carried away with my little additions and i dont wanna be obnoxious if i can help it so im putting this under a read more okay continue on. or not if you dont wanna hear about how literally the entire trial goes i guess)

knuckles is the judge which makes perfect logical sense

the detective is vector whos televising this entire trial while hes at it. he barely has anything to work with because a CERTAIN SOMEONE disposed of the body but from what he could piece together fastidious beaver was being annoying at meh burger so shadow grabbed him by the scruff, dragged him over the counter, and dunked his head into the deep fryer. as anon mentioned he somehow survives this

sticks conducted the autopsy and by that i mean she whacked fastidious beaver in the head with her boomerang a couple of times and when he didnt wake up from that she hurled him into the sea. once again this makes perfect logical sense its not like we have other characters much better equipped to be scientific about this. and he somehow survives this as well

edgebot looks exactly like omega except with more spikes. he wants revenge against shadow for besting him at Brude™️ which is why hes doing this. from this episode onward hes omegas main rival in the field of law and also theyre brothers since they were both created by eggman. M1KU is their sister. orbot and cubot are their eldest siblings. what a nice family

oh and instead of yelling "OBJECTION" each side just fires a projectile (ice cream for omega, knives for edgebot) at the other robot causing sogginess and scratch marks

all the other characters are the gallery and theyre sitting outside on the grass watching this all go down with varying degrees of attention. eggman in particular feels very conflicted because he wants to support edgebot but he doesnt want to make omega feel like the unfavorite and of course he doesnt want to root for shadows downfall either

witness 1 is dave who was standing right next to shadow when he was committing the deed and did absolutely nothing to stop him. omega gets him to recant by pelting him with ice cream nonstop and giving him hypothermia

witness 2 is amy who was at the front of the line to order when this went down and also saw everything but omega cracks her testimony by getting her to admit that shadows back was towards her at the time so she cant say for sure that was shadow. sure no one else around is a black hedgehog with red stripes but she cant prove it was him can she?

witness 3 whos infinite is mainly there to testify about shadows character and of course he starts talking so much trash about him and painting him in the worst light possible. "also those red things next to his eyes? theyre UGLY." "YOURE THE UGLY ONE YOU MASK WEARING FREAK!!!" shadow yells as he leaps from the defendants chair and tackles infinite to the floor because these two in the boomverse would be so catty you will not change my mind about this. a recess has to be called

rouge whos witness 4 is also there to establish character and shes one of the few who isnt intimidated by shadow so when asked questions about whether hes capable of doing this shes like "lol maybe idk can i go to my manipedi appointment now" (side note but shadows constantly at a loss for words when it comes to rouge precisely because of this. none of his threats ever affect her so if he cant scare her then What Else Can He Do)

eventually omega pushes everything onto sonic by saying he was disguised as shadow to frame him which is an accusation that comes out of left field because in case you werent paying attention sonic isnt involved in this incident/trial AT ALL. he was sitting in the gallery for the first half of the proceedings but grew bored so he left only to be forced to come back when hes accused. insert sa2 references here yada yada faker etc etc youre not even good enough to be my fake blah blah blah live and learn

shadow surprisingly is pretty against the direction this trial has gone because it actually really pisses him off when people imply that he and sonic look alike even when it directly benefits him but just when hes about to put his foot down and own up to the crime (omegas fun be DAMNED) fastidious beaver comes in "correcting" his grammar and everyone freaks out. especially him.

omegas disappointed that his first trial was ultimately a dud but then tw barker comes up to him and tells him hes in trouble for extortion and omega ALMOST accepts until he learns that the incident involved c/ryptocurrency
