pairing: special agent ! lee felix x medical examiner ! reader
genre: f for fluff and felix
warnings: mentions of dead bodies and a ghost.. or a murderer... or a ghost murderer
Tumblr media
welcome back to skz criminal investigation division !!
today
i’d like to introduce you to special agent lee felix yongbok ( ⁎ᵕᴗᵕ⁎ )
he’s one of the two agents with the prettiest long blond hair in the division in the whole wide world
also has the prettiest !! freckles !! that looks like stardust sprinkled all over his cheeks
to conclude: felix looks like a tiny ball of sunshine,
especially when he smiles ,,
BUT he can kick ass real hard ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
very good with weapons and combat in general
he also has the deepest voice which comes in handy during interrogations
“stand up and show your skills you know the drill”
+12983742 points for intimidation >:
don’t u worry though
bc he’s nothing but a cuddle bug and the sweetest ball of fluff to his loved ones ‧⁺✧(⁙´ワ`⁙)⁺
and that will include u
ESPECIALLY u
but first ! u’ll have to meet him
so u, my precious reader, are the new medical examiner in the office yay!!!
it has only been a week since u started ur new job and u’re still trying to adjust
but thankfully u have seungmin, the senior medical examiner and also ur new partner, who has been so so helpful and friendly
u’ve been so busy during ur first week with work and all the transfer administrations that u haven’t got the chance to formally meet everyone
so far u’ve only met, well, seungmin
and the unit chief, bang chan, who is very friendly too
but one day !!
an unfamiliar face showed up at the medical examiner’s office |ω・)
GUESS WHO
i’m going to give u a clue
long blond hair, prettiest freckles, and a BLINDING smile
YES
FELIX (♡ > ◡ < )
he came to ur office to fetch a report from seungmin
and that’s when he saw u for the first time
u were bagging up a few articles of clothing to send to forensics
felix never thought anyone could make a lab coat look so pretty
but THERE U WERE LOOKING LIKE AN ANGEL
u: exist
felix’s lovestruck braincells: (⸝⸝⸝ᵒ̴̶̷ 。 ᵒ̴̶̷⸝⸝⸝)(⸝⸝⸝ᵒ̴̶̷ 。 ᵒ̴̶̷⸝⸝⸝)(⸝⸝⸝ᵒ̴̶̷ 。 ᵒ̴̶̷⸝⸝⸝)
cue: felix embarrassing himself in front of u
“hi, i’m here to r-report”
?????????
u are ??????(・ ・ ? confused
bc the most beautiful person u’ve ever seen just popped out of nowhere and says he’s here to report?
what does he even have to reportksljflkasdf
“hi! uhm i’m sorry, report what?”
“the medical report….?”
????????????????what????????
“OHH u mean u’re here for the medical report? hold on”
……
out of his entire lifetime
his brain choses to be dysfunctional right there in front of u
felix, deep down inside: i want to. (」。≧□≦)」 D I S SIPATE. (」。≧□≦)」
“oh right y-yeah, for the burn victim”
u hand him a copy of the report u had prepared and walked him through some of the findings
“we found something in the victim’s ear but i think we haven’t heard back from the lab-“
“hey yn they ran out of the cookies u wanted- oh! (。・o・。)ノ hey felix!”
“h-hi seungmin”
seungmin looks at him weirdly bc ??? what was that
who is this and what have they done with felix, his giggly cuddlebug of a friend
ANYWAYS
after u finished going through everything, felix said thank u and bolted out of ur office so quick
chan: “u okay there, buddy? u look.. uh”
“……that’s exactly how i feel too”
since then on
he never stops thinking about u
also keeps reminding himself of how embarrassing he was and gets sad over it again • ʖ̯ • )
not that he knows but !! u keep thinking of him too
u’re a little sad that all u know about him is that his name is felix (he didn’t even tell u himself :c ) and that he’s one of the special agents in chan’s division
but u two don’t see each other again after that for awhile
the next time u saw him was when u got back to ur office after lunch break
felix was fetching another report from seungmin
and he was all smiley and giggly (❁´▽`❁)*✲゚* with seungmin but the moment u walked into the room
he just smiles awkwardly at u and rushes out
u figured that he’s uncomfortable whenever u’re around
:(
and it was like that for a very long time
he’d come in with chan sometimes for the reports
and he’d be like buddy-buddy with seungmin but whenever u’re there he’s just hhshdfhshfgotta go
u wanted to be his friend too because he looks so lovely to be around :(
little did u know that he’s just shy because he likes u like A LOT and his brain just short circuits whenever u’re within his eyesight :(
u got felix going dumb da da dumb (sorry)
but stop being sad bc
here comes !! the twist to the plot !! (。✧ᴗ✧。)
one day
u were working late and we’re talking like LATE late because
(1) seungmin was out of office for a hearing, and
(2) suddenly 4 new bodies came into the office in a span of 2 hours?!@?!?!@# and u were currently in the brink of breaking down ;—;
but seungmin didn’t raise no quitter
with the power of coffee and anime by ur side, u started working through the bodies one by one
it’s a little past midnight now and u were quite sure the last light outside ur office turned off a couple hours ago and
u see
u could just leave and have seungmin work at it in the morning
but the caffeine in ur bloodstream said u wouldn’t be able to sleep once u get home anyway so
(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و back to work (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و
u were scraping something from the last victim’s nails when suddenly ??? the lights went off
ok let’s be real
u are ⁿᵒᵗ afraid
u work with dead bodies every. day. but it’s god knows what o’clock in the morning AND NOW it’s pitch black and u just hhhhSHDFHS
ur hand went into ur pocket to fish out ur phone but then u remembered that u left it to charge on ur table AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM
reader u dummy
u didn’t know how long u froze in that same spot bc ???u’re kinda afraid and u couldn’t see anything
but suddenly u heard the sound of glass shattering and someone’s groan and u thought
this is it this is ur END
seungmin is going to walk into this office tomorrow and find 5 bodies instead of 4
u crouched as a horrible attempt to hide from the ghost……….. or potential murderer…………. honestly u don’t know which one’s better (maybe bc the answer is NOT BOTH??!)
u were internally cursing about how u could’ve had a scalpel in hand for self protection but instead all u had with u was a goddamn TOOTHPICK when u felt something? or someone?touch ur shoulder
“hey-“
“p leasedon’t kill me i’m new here i really don’t know anything pleaseiwon’t sayanything to anyone”
“YN IT’S ME”
“THEY EVEN KNOW MY NAME ALREADYSDKFJSK I REALLY DON’T WANT TO D-“ Σ(゚Д゚;≡;゚д゚)
“i’m not here to kill usdfskdfjs it’s me!! felix”
,,,,,,,,
felix? (・Θ・)
well
that was
,,,,,,,,embarrassing
“w-what are u doing here?”
“the electricity got cut off and i heard hyunjin say u’re working late and probably still down here so… (´ . .̫ . `) i came here to check on u”
u could barely make out his face in the dark but he was close enough u could see him smiling at u
the two of u just stayed there crouching on the ground and u were just about to say something when suddenly the lights flickered on again
( 〃..) ohsldkfjs he’s so close and if he keeps smiling that lovely u swear u’ll combust
“are u gonna go home yet?”
“i-i’m not done yet”
“oh ! i’ll wait for u”
“WHAT no it’s late go home”
!!!!
“exactly! it’s late!! i’m not letting u go home at 3 in the morning by urself”
so u quickly finish and when u’re done u found felix nearly dozing off on ur table </3
how can a person be so CUTE ◕︿◕
he walked u home and offered u his jacket along the way
(wouldn’t take no for an answer)
it was a little awkward bc the two of u are just very very Shy
but u enjoyed his company
when u finally arrived at ur apartment,
the two of u just stood there for a little while, u fiddling with ur bag and him with his earring
“i-“ “hey-“
“sorry, u go first”
“i apologize for scaring u earlier…. whenever we meet i just always embarrass myself”
he mumbled the second half of his sentence and ur sleep-deprived brain couldn’t make out what he said but !! he looked so disappointed (っ◞‸◟c)
so u gave him a tiny hug
“no, thank you for checking up on me earlier and for walking me home”
:o
felix was bright red
shy shy felix shy
“no worries..” ⁄(⁄ ⁄•⁄ ⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄ “i guess.. i uh- i’ll get going, yeah? see u tomorrow?”
“see u tomorrow, be safe”
felix waited until u went inside and then let out a giggle
u hugged him
this is the BEST day of his life
it doesn't even matter if his house is on the other side of the city
he’d walk u home every day if it means u would hug him again
bonus:
“thanks for walking me home again” (⌒⌣⌒ )
lix looked like he was about to ask u something
but all he could say is his usual “no worries”
u see
felix has been meaning to ask u for ur number for a WEEK now but he just couldn’t seem to get the words out of his head >:
he was just about to chicken out once again when u fished out ur phone and gave it to him
“u know… i’d say text me when u get home but i don’t have ur number”
smooth reader very smooth (^⌒^*)
he thanked the heavens he didn’t drop ur phone when typing in his number because boy was he SHAKING
the two of u stayed up all night texting and neither could stop smiling that day

Unintended Consequences - Part 1
Tumblr media
A/N: Firstly, I want to say thank you all so much for all the support on the little sneak peek I put out last week! It really means a lot! So, here is the first official part, which is a little prologue to set the scene. Please enjoy and let me know what you think! xx
Pairing: Ben Hardy x Reader
Word Count: 4k
Warnings: none
MASTERLIST
It was an unseasonably hot summer day in the quiet suburb of England. People had flocked to the seaside to escape the heart and enjoy a cool breeze, or retreated indoors to avoid it all together. But not little Y/N, who was barely six years and staring at the winding concrete path before her.
She looked at ground dismally, horrified by the fact that her ice cream had slid off of it’s waffle cone and plopped to the ground. The sweet cream was quickly melting under the rays of the scorching sun, spreading out everywhere and almost seeping into her sandals.
Her little bottom lip quivered as she watched her favorite dessert disappear. She had been a good girl all week, anticipating the reward of delicious ice cream eagerly. Now it was all gone and she was left holding an empty the cone, trying her very best not to cry.
A shadow suddenly blocked her clear view of the dissipating dessert, popping out of nowhere and startled her. She took a step back and used the back of her hand to wipe at her misty eyes. Looking up she spied a curly haired blonde boy staring back at her, a curious look on his face.
“D-do you want my ice cream?” he asked shyly, extending his small arm out to her, at the end of which was a fresh cone piled high with a few scoops of multi flavored ice cream. She looked between him and his outstretched hand before giving him the tiniest of nods and taking his little gift with a small sniffle, “I’m sorry you dropped yours.”
“It’s okay. I think it’s too hot,” she pouted at him, taking a lick of the top flavor - chocolate, her favourite. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the cool, sweet flavor on her tongue before looking back at him. He was watching her intently with wide, bright green eyes, “do you want to share? I don’t have cooties!”
“Yes, please,” he said as he wrung his hands nervously, waiting for her to hand the cone back to him. Even at a young age, he thought she was the prettiest girl he had seen. She would be his friend, he decided, his first friend in the neighborhood he had just moved to.
“Here you go,” she chirped and handed the cone over, licking the remainder off of her lips. He grinned at her before sinking his teeth in the strawberry flavor, causing her to giggle wildly, “doesn’t that hurt your teeth!?”
“No,” he answered but the expression on his face suggested he was lying. He shivered as he tried to rid himself of the brain freeze that was quickly setting in. Both of them started to giggle once he finally shook it off, “okay, maybe that was a little cold.”
“You’re silly!” she told him, and his cheeks flushed a little bit. She realized she didn’t even know his name, she hadn’t even seen him, “I’m Y/N! What’s your name? Are you new here? I know all the kids but I haven’t see you before.”
“My name’s Ben,” he told her and they swapped the cone again, “I just moved here with my mumma and daddy. It’s the big green house at the end of the street.”
“That’s right next to me!” she clapped her little hands as best as she could, trying not drop this bit of ice cream, “we’re neighbors! We can play all the time!”
“You’ll be my friend?” he kicked at the ground nervously, scuffing the front of his pristine converse slightly. He’d never had many friends, being extremely shy around most people, and preferring the company of his pets and toys.
“Of course!” she said as she reached for his hand to drag him along with her. They were in the small neighborhood park, and she was excited to bring him home and introduce him to her family, “come on, Benny! I wanna show you my toys!”
“Benny?” he mused as he took her hand and followed closely behind her. No one had called him that before, it was always Ben or Benjamin, if he was in trouble. But never Benny. It had a nice ring to it, and he knew then and there that she was the only allowed to call him that.
“Can I call you that?” she hadn’t considered that he might not like it. She hoped be did, and was relieved when he nodded at her, “come on then, Benny! Let’s go! I have so much I want to show you!”
That was the first time Y/N L/N had met Ben Jones. But it was far from the last. Instead, over the next sixteen years, they became the best of friends. All from one kind little boy offering his ice cream to the little girl that had dropped hers and was on the verge of tears.
“Benny?” Y/N knocked gently on his bedroom door. He had meant to shut it completely and lock it, keeping out the world, but in his haste to escape and be alone, he had forgotten to do either. He didn’t respond to her soft voice, opting to remain hunched over on his bed, half hidden under the blankets. Letting out a small sigh, she stepped inside and shut the door behind her, listening for the click before locking it.
Slipping off her shoes, she padded over to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. He flinched slightly, but removed the blankets that were covering his face and looked at her with red rimmed eyes. Y/N touched his face gently, running a thumb along his cheekbone. She hated when he was sad, the look he wore on his face was enough to break her own heart, “what happened, Benny? Is everything okay?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he protested quietly, already feeling his defenses weaken under her touch. Tutting at him, she beckoned for him to scoot over and make a spot for her. She usually took the other side when they shared a bed, but today she couldn’t be bothered to walk around.
Slipping into the bed and under blankets, she laid next to him silently, not pressuring him for answers. He would tell her when he was ready; he was always did. She was his confidant, his best friend, his everything. She rolled over to face him and tugged softly on a rogue curl, twirling it around her finger.
“Love of my life, you’ve hurt me, you’ve broken my heart and now you leave me,” she sang softly at him, trying to coax him out of his shell. He loved when she sang to him, that song in particular, it had been one of their favourites for years, “love of my life, can’t you see? Bring it back, bring it back, don’t take it away from me, because you don’t know, what it means to me.”
He held back a sniffle as she closed her eyes and made herself more comfortable. If he wasn’t ready to talk now, she was willing to stick it out and wait. That’s what best friends were for, right?
“She broke up with me,” he said after a long while of silence, the only sound in the room their synchronized breathing, “right in front of everyone after school. She was so cruel, Y/N. Everyone was laughing at me.”
“Oh no,” Y/N’s eyes snapped open; she had been close to drifting off to the sweet land of sleep, but he had her full attention now, “I’m sorry, Benny. That’s awful of her to do. No one deserves that, especially you. What did she say?”
“She said I was too boring and no fun. Said I was too sensitive and not manly,” he frowned as he replayed the scene in his head. She had been so cruel, almost mocking him when he became visibly upset. Her group of friends had been gathered around her, laughing and making snide remarks about him, “she made fun of me for being a virgin too, just because I said I wasn’t ready to have sex. I just-”
“Shhh,” Y/N reached over and placed a gentle finger in the middle of his lips, effectively quieting him, “you don’t need to explain anything to me. You, Benjamin Jones, deserve so much better than her. She doesn’t know what she’s missing out on. The kindest, sweetest, most gentle boy, the kind that offers his ice cream to a complete stranger. If she can’t see your value, then that is her loss.”
“Are you sure?” he questioned timidly and she fervently nodded her head, “I liked her a lot. She was pretty.”
“If pretty is what you’re looking for then you can find almost any girl,” she laughed lightly. What about you? he wondered to himself, but remained silent, “girls like her a dime a dozen, vapid and pretty but that’s all she’s got going on. Besides, I never liked her anyway, she made my skin crawl.”
“Really? Why didn’t you say anything?” he had had a feeling there was an air of tension between his best friend and former girlfriend, but could never quite place it.
“Because she made you happy,” she struggled lightly, as if it was the obvious thing in the world, “and you’re my best friend. I want you to be happy always. Even if that means me not always like the girl you date, even though I promise to try my best.”
“Did she ever say anything to you?” he asked quietly, brushing a lock of her hair back. He had always been shy, even at sixteen he still often found it hard to overcome, but never with Y/N. Everything always came so easily with her.
“It’s nothing to worry your pretty head about,” she smiled stiffly, wishing the interaction she’d had with his former girlfriend had never happened. She had claimed Ben as hers and only hers and wasn’t thrilled to be sharing his affection and attention with Y/N, but that’s just how things were.
“What did she say, Y/N?” he pressed her and she sighed in defeat.
“She warned me to stay away from you,” she confessed, trying to play it off, “said we shouldn’t be so close and she was the only girl in your life now.”
“Oh,” there was a tone of sadness in his voice as he looked her over. They’ve been such close friends ever since the day they had met, imagining life without her was impossible. She was always going to be there…or so he thought. His piercing gaze bore into hers as stared at each silently, “I wish you’d told me sooner.”
“It doesn’t matter Benny,” she promised him, pulling the blanket higher and snuggling into the pillow that smelled just like him. Stifling a yawn, she reached over and pulled him a little closer, which he had no problem obliging, “what matters is now. You’re my best friend, and that won’t change. Now come on, it’s nap time.”
Y/N closed her eyes, and was soon snoring ever so lightly, as Ben observed her. Her face finally relaxed, her lips parted in a soft pout as her chest rose and fell in a gentle rhythm. He reached over and closed the small gap between, ghosting his fingers over the contours of her face. He momentarily wondered what it would be like to kiss her lips. Probably pretty nice, he thought to himself. But she’d probably never wonder the same about him - he was just her shy best friend and she was the outgoing enigma.
He sighed lightly to himself as he lazily draped an arm over her waist, ready to blame it on sleep if she made a comment about it. Closing his light emerald eyes, he rested against his pillow and let himself drift off as well.
He wasn’t sure what his feelings meant anymore, but he was almost positive that most people didn’t experience those feelings for their best friend. So, what did all those butterflies, the stirring in his stomach, the increased thump of his heart mean then?
“Y/N! Hurry up!” Ben called out from the under the mountains of blankets that were strewn across his living room floor. He heard some unintelligible mumbling coming from the kitchen, and laughed when he realized that her mouth was probably already full, “I’m not pausing the movie! Marathon starts at eight sharp and you’ve got two minutes!”
“Hold your bloody horses,” she called back at him, right before a loud bang was followed by a slew of curses. A soft oof reached his ears.
“Are you okay?” he asked, jumping to his feet and rushing into the kitchen to make sure she was still in one piece. He had to fight back a laugh as he spied her, arms full with snacks, hobbling around on one foot, “what did you do, silly girl?”
“Stubbing my fucking pinkie toe on the edge of the pantry,” she hissed through gritted teeth as he took the food from her arms. She gladly handed them over, examined her foot to make sure the toe wasn’t broken, or otherwise damaged. Besides being red and mildly inflamed, it appeared fine. Ben gently reached over and wiped away the tear that had dripped down her cheek, “I’m blaming you!”
“Why me?” he protested, sticking out his plump lips in a hurt expression. Y/N tried to ignore the fluttering feeling in her stomach as she watched him. Sometimes having a best friend as gorgeous and kind as Ben wasn’t easy. Moments like this reminded her of that.
“Your kitchen, therefore your pantry, therefore your fault,” she smirked, turning back to grab drinks out of the refrigerator. He watched her incredulously, snacks clutched tightly in his hands. He could tell her now - today. It would be, it honestly should have been, so simple. But his mind complicated everything and suddenly he was unsure of anything, “Benny? You’re overthinking again. I’m just kidding about blaming you!”
“Y-yeah, right,” he replied quietly, following her into the pillow and blanket fort they had thrown together. Before he could stop himself, he blurted out, “I’m going to miss you.”
“Shhh,” she put a finger to his lips, beckoning for him sit next to her, holding the blanket open invitingly, “we’re not going to think about that tonight. That’s a tomorrow problem. Tonight is just like every other movie night. Just me and you. That’s all that matters right now.”
“But it’s not,” he protested lightly, but she ignored him, getting comfy among the pillows and blankets, making sure the large television was at an appropriate viewing angle. She didn’t say anything, but tugged on his arm, and forced him down next to her, “Y/N, I-I think I need to tell you something.”
“It’s okay, bub,” she whispered, turning on the first movie they had selected, trying to ignore the wild beating of her heart. She was sure he probably could hear it, unless his own heart was drowning out the noise, “the time for talk is later.”
Ben didn’t protest this time, instead laying down and letting his gaze at the screen, although he wasn’t paying much attention to the movie. Had she just rejected him? Or was she just as nervous as he was as sixteen years worth of feelings suddenly bubbled to the service? He couldn’t tell, but consumed his mind throughout the whole film. He was barely able to focus on the plot, completely lost about halfway through it, when he heard soft snores coming from next to him.
In his focus on trying to quiet his brain, he hadn’t even noticed that she had scooted closer to him, and was resting on his chest. her legs entwined with his own. A worried expression seemed to be etched on her face as her chest rose and fell evenly. He wished he could capture this moment forever, but it was too late now. He had missed his opportunity and soon he would be gone for months. Without her. It would be the first time that he spent more than a week apart from Y/N.
“Hey,” he put his arm around gently, rubbing her back soothingly. She murmured something quietly, but he wasn’t able to make out an words, “Y/N, love, are you awake?”
“Mhmm,” she said without opening her eyes, head still on his chest, “‘m awake, Benny.”
“I-I have something I need to tell you,” he informed, deciding to do it now. Even if she wasn’t full awake, hopefully she’d remember when she woke up. Hopefully she’d feel the same. He couldn’t wait any longer, he had to get it all out - he couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t, “Y/N, I-I’m in love with you.”
“Love you too, Benny,” she snuggled up tighter to his warm body. She had always called him her personal heater, his body was always warm, which was a perfect contrast to her always feeling cold. He swallowed the large lump in his throat as he realized she wasn’t quite understanding his connotations.
“No, you don’t get it,” he lowered his head a little bit so he was almost speaking into her ear, “I’m in love with you. And not just as my best friend.”
It was no use though, she was gone for the evening, lost to the land of the sleeping. She made no more sounds sans for the snores that come steadily. Ben removed frozen, letting her us him as a pillow, unsure of what to do next. Should he tell her again tomorrow? Would she remember on her own? Or was it all a colossal waste of time?
Shifting his eyes back to the screen, he aimlessly watched the last bit of the film, most of which was lost on him. When it was over, he crawled out from under as gently as he could, trying his best not to wake her. He made quick work of cleaning up and switching the lights and television off before picking her up gingerly and carrying her to his bedroom.
He placed her delicately on her preferred side of the bed before climbing into the other side, and laying next to her. Laying on his back, his eyes focused on the ceiling, all sorts of scenarios drifting through his mind. Parts of him where regretting taking that film role. Parts of him knew it was a mistake, but he’d never admit out loud. And Y/N would never let him give up on his dream, even if that meant him leaving for months on end. He was torn between what to do, but after several aimless hours, his eyes finally closed and he was able to slip into a dreamless slumber.
“I can’t believe this is it,” Y/N stared at Ben with sad eyes, trying her very best to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill over. The day he was leaving her had finally arrived, and the previous evening hadn’t made anything easier.
She swore that he had professed his love for her but decided not to comment on it. She figured it was probably something her mind had conjured up and made a big deal out of as she was falling asleep. Besides that, Ben was her best friend, her good old shy Benny boy. It was doubtful he would ever love someone like her.
“I-I can still say no,” he volunteered weakly, but she just shook her head, not taking no for an answer. His lips pulled into a small half smile as he focused his attention on the coffee in front of them. All around them, people were bustling and getting their morning started in the small café, while the two of were having a goodbye breakfast. It felt odd and wrong, but he knew if he wanted to further his career, this was what he needed to do.
“You’re not staying behind for me,” she said firmly with a small smile, but she wished he would. But she’d never admit, she’d rather have gone to her grave before doing that, “it’s only four months. And then we’ll go from there. Four months, 123 days from today.”
“You counted?” he asked, a little bit of light reaching his eyes finally. She bobbed her head up and down in confirmation, almost embarrassed that she had so willing confessed that to him. He reached across the table and took her hand in his much larger one, giving it a gentle squeeze, “123 days until the best homecoming ever.”
“I’m going to miss you so much,” she replied shakily, dabbing her eyes with the back of her sweater sleeve…well Ben’s sweater sleeve. She was currently sporting his clothing rather than her own, “promise me you won’t forget about me? Since you’re going to be famous and all that.”
“I could never forget about you,” he felt almost insulted that she would even dare to think he could forget about her. She was his best friend and he adored everything single thing about her, “I haven’t since the day we met when you had dropped your ice cream and almost cried about it.”
“I had been excited for it all week!” she laughed, remembering how he’d calmly, yet nervously, approached her and offered her his dessert, “but luckily my favourite human being came to the rescue. Who would have thought that after all these years we’d still be here – together.”
“That’s never going to change,” he leaned in closer to her, “you really think you’re going to get rid of me so easily, Y/N L/N?”
“I sure hope not,” she confessed, relishing in how soft his hand was on top of hers. Gnawing on her bottom lip, she wished she could just get it out and let him that she was in love with him, but she couldn’t. The words were stuck in her throat, in the lump that refused to leave, “promise me you’ll text? And call? And faceime?”
“I promise that and more,” he was confident in his words at the time. If only either of them knew exactly what the future held, then perhaps this conversation would have gone very differently, “I’ll fly you out to visit me as soon as possible, hopefully next month, okay? That way it won’t be too long for us to be apart.”
“Okay,” she sniffed lightly, trying her best to keep herself composed. Daring a glance at her watch, she saw that it was just about time for him to leave so he could get to the airport on time, “God, I didn’t think it would be this hard. I mean I did, but still.”
“I know,” he agreed, feeling the pricking sensation at the back of his eyes as he stood up to get ready to leave. She followed suit and studied him one last time, trying to remember every detail of him - his short blonde curls, the kind light sage eyes, the pink lips, everything, “I don’t want to go.”
“Yes, you do, silly,” she said as a single tear rolled down her splotchy cheek, “this is your dream. You worked so hard for it.”
“I know, but it’s hard right now,” he wiped away the tear, staring at her silently for a few moments, torn between what to say next. He wasn’t given much of a choice to decide as she threw her arms around his muscular body, clutching onto him for dear life. She buried her head in the crook of his neck, a few tears soaking into the fabric of his shirt.
He returned the sentiment, closing his eyes and holding her back, inhaling the sweet scent of her shampoo one last time. Ben wanted to be sure he was familiarized with every detail of her, that way during the lonely nights he’d be able to picture her clearly.
They held each other in silence for what seemed like a small eternity before the ringing of Ben’s phone interrupted them. Reluctantly pulling apart, he grabbed it with a heavy sigh, not able to get a word in before a voice came through from the other line.
“Yes, alright,” was all Ben said before ending the call and slipping the phone into his back pocket, “I guess I’d be better be going then. Duty calls.”
“Quite literally it would seem,” she joked and giving him the lightest of nudges as she put a hand on his chest, “well, Benny, this is goodbye-”
“It’s not a goodbye,” he interrupted, a slow smile spreading on her face. He was always weird about saying goodbye, be tried to avoid it as much as he could feeling like it was too definitive, too final of a statement, “it’s a see you later…a see you soon.”
“See you soon, Ben,” she leaned up slightly and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. She felt a jolt of electricity shook through her at the simple touch and tried to ignore it and prevent a crimson blush from rising in her cheeks, “let me know when you get there. Call me!”
“It’s going to be super late here,” he chuckled, subconsciously touching his cheek in the same spot her lips had been. Little did he know that she had felt the exact same feelings he did.
“I don’t care,” she insisted, “I want to make you’re safe and sound. Okay?”
“Okay,” he tried his best to muster up a smile as they headed towards the exit. It was now or never, he deduced, “I love you, Y/N.”
“I love you too, Ben, she whispered, wishing she was confident enough to tell him exactly how much. But no wave of courage, no sudden brashness overcame her, so she just waited awkwardly as he seemed to linger.
“I’ll call you soon, promise,” he grabbed his bag and started to flag down a cab, “remember - you’re my best friend. Nothing is ever going to change. 123 days, love, that’s all.”
“123 days,” she repeated, giving him a small, desolate wave as he climbed into the cab. She remained there, watching the brightly colored cab into it was long gone in the distance before being able to move.
123 days wasn’t too much. It seemed like a long time, but it would go by before she knew it - she was sure of it. Maybe, if things were right, she’d even profess her love to him as soon as they were reunited. A cliche movie moment, but that was what she wanted. Her own moment.
But 123 turned into 1,827 days.
1,827 days without seeing Ben’s face or hearing his voice in her ear, or having his body close to hers.
Until now.
“Y/N?” Ben asked as she looked at him, gobsmacked and unsure of how to respond. He had the nerve to waltz back into her life like nothing had happened after all these years. This was so unlike the shy little boy she had grown up with. This was a whole new Ben. He tried to touch her wrist, but she took a step further back, “d-did you hear me?”
“You want me…to be your girlfriend?” she managed to stammer out, unsure if this was all a cruel joke or some sort of trick.
“Please, love, I need you,” his voice was low and soft - the same tone he used throughout the years as he sung her to sleep, the same soft that was reserved almost exclusively for her, “what do you say?”
“Fuck you, Ben Jones,” she spat out before turning on her heel and rushing out of the cafe, tears flooding down her cheeks and clouding her vision.
How could he do this? How could he just break her heart all over again? It was hard enough when months turned into years but this was rock bottom.
That was why she wondered why she felt so conflicted. Because deep down, in her heart of hearts, she knew that she still loved him. She’d never stopped loving Ben Jones.

Here's My Number
"Are we finally going home now, Hayi?" He asked with a hint of tiredness on his voice. They had already roamed the shopping district for like 5 hours, hopping from one shop to another shop, stopping here and there to take pictures. Honestly, who didn’t even feel tired though.
“There's still one place left to go", she smiled. Her shopping bags dangling from both of her fingers.
"WHAT?!" He gave her ridiculous look. Hanbin didn't understand how she still had some energy left after her haul.
"I promise, this will be our last stop, okay? Please..." this time Hayi gave him her innocent puppy eyes that Hanbin usually couldn’t even say no. But it didn’t work. Hanbin was too tired to care about her.
Don't get him wrong. He loves her okay. She is his best friend since he can remember. They were probably 2 years old when Hayi moved to the house beside Hanbin. Her mom was really friendly and introduced her family as the new neighbour to Hanbin's family. His mom was around Hayi's mom age so they hit off immediately and ever since that day, they became best friend also. Hayi means a lot to him. She is also the one and only that knows Hanbin's secret. Not even his family know about it.
Lately they've been busy with college and part time job so they never hang out together anymore. So, when Hayi asked him to accompany her to go shopping, he said yes right away. Thinking that maybe he could spend quality time with her. He kinda regretted his decision now.
"You also said that since the last five shops. "Okay it will be our last stop"  then you keep going to another shops. Let's go home, I'm tired!" He said mimicking they way Hayi talked. He had already annoyed because there's seem no end for this shopping trip.
"No... No... Hanbin, listen to me, I SWEAR TO GOD this is our last stop, okay. And it will be only a coffee shop that really popular on Instagram lately. All my friends are talking about it and they also post a picture while in there. The place is so aesthetic and they have nice coffee! So, please..." she pleaded this time. Her voice was panicked that Hanbin might reject her offer.
Hanbin only sighed this time. He knew Hayi too well that this girl was so stubborn. She would do anything to get what she wanted. A habit from the only child of her family.
"And you bring that cool camera of yours. It will be such a waste if you don’t take pictures of that coffee shop"
"YAH! I almost run out of my photo film already! You took pictures for every 'cute' place you visited!" He emphasized 'cute' word. She was forcing him to take picture for every places she thought it's cute, when Hanbin himself thought that the places were not even worthy.
"I promise this time, it will be a good place, Hanbin. See..." She showed a picture of the coffee shop that she found from the internet to Hanbin.
Hanbin, being skeptical as he was, didn't believe that picture. Hayi always showed him pictures of places that she wanted to go. Some of them didn't even look similar to the pictures. It irritated Hanbin.
"Beside, I'll pay for the coffees and cakes as a sorry"
He only shrugged as a response. Well, he couldn't say no to free food. He had already hungry since the last two shops, but he couldn't say anything to Hayi when that girl already moved to another shop.
Their walk to the coffee shop only took ten minutes. The place almost hidden among other building. If he didn't know that it was a coffee shop, he might think it's an ordinary house.
They were kinda confused with how to enter the place because the door was almost invisible. It's actually painted in white, the same as the wall. It's really embarrassing moment for both of them. Not until a smiley guy, which he assumed was one of the staff of the cafe, finally opened the door for them.
When they entered the place, he was shocked to see that the place was exactly the same as the picture. The interior was really similar to ordinary house with zen design. The walls were painted in white while all the furniture in this place were in black and white or wood texture.
There were sofas and coffee table right beside the door, it's almost like his own living room. And if you went a little bit further to the cafe, it also had outdoor place for smokers with zen garden and small pebbles around it.
There's long common table right in front of the  order table. The order table itself was a long table that connected to the coffee bar and cake dome.
They chose to sit in the corner of the room, close enough to see the menu behind the bar. Hayi sat there first while Hanbin order the coffees. He knew Hayi long enough to memorize her preference of coffee.
The girl loved iced americano with less sugar and two extra shot. She loved her coffee bitter. It's the exact opposite with Hanbin. The guy didn't really like coffee. He'd rather choose cookies and cream blend than coffee. Blame his childish tongue.
He made his way to the cashier to drop his order. There was the same guy who opened the door for him and Hayi before. Hanbin assumed that guy was also around his age. He had kind smile and blonde hair.
“Welcome to The Halcyon. What do you want to order?” He asked. The smile never leave his lips.
Right when he opened his mouth, a deep husky voice distracted him. There he saw the cutest guy he’d ever seen in his life. The barista was slightly taller than him. His hair was brunette and pushed back so Hanbin could see his nice forehead. He only wore a black polo with brown apron, the standard uniform for barista, but he could be effortlessly handsome in that simple cloth.
The barista called the name of other customer once again and when the customer came to the bar to take her order, Hanbin could see the guy smiled to her while saying thank you. His smile was so blinding. The guy had uneven bunny teeth but that made his smile even cuter if that even make sense. Hanbin was dazed off for a while until a voice, too cheery for his liking, called him back to reality.
“Sir?”
Ah, that blonde cashier guy.
“Ah yes… Hmm… One iced americano with less sugar and two extra shots. One carrot cake. And…” Hanbin suddenly couldn’t decide what he wanted. Too distracted by the sexy back of the barista. The guy was making another coffee for another customer. His move was smooth but agile.
“One cookies and cream blend and one chocolate brownie”, he was surprised that he could finish his order.
“Okay, it will be 20.000 won. And with the name of…?”
“Kim Hanbin”, he said his name too fast and gave the cashier the exact amount of money. He really needed to come back to his seat to calm his beating heart because that barista called another customer’s name again.
When he was back to his seat, he saw Hayi’s scowling face. The girl wasn’t busy with her phone, which was unusual because Hayi always playing with her phone if she’s waiting over something.
“Why did you take a really long time to order?”
“I was kinda confused what to order and beside, you also took a really long time for shopping. So it’s equal”, he made up immediate excuse. He tried to act indifferent as if nothing happened.
“We’ve already been best friend since 2 years old and you forgot my coffee preference? What a bad friend.” He knew she only was joking when she said that. There’s no harm behind that words. “Anyway, did you see that barista? And no, please don’t turn around right away because he may think we are talking about him.” she continued with hushed voice.
“Yeah I saw him”, he said nonchalantly.
“Oh my god, he is so cute. I saw his smile to other customer and it was the sweetest smile I’ve ever seen. And oh, his voice! Damn, I love that kind of voice!” she continued rambling about the nameless barista. Hanbin didn’t listen to her anymore, too busy to care that his best friend also having a crush on his crush. It wasn’t the first time for this case to happen, but Hayi didn’t have to know that.
“Can I get our order instead when he calls your name?”
“WHAT?” now he paid attention to her.
“Huh? I said, I will get our order instead”, she clicked her tongue and continued “So I can see him that close… and maybe get a smile?”
He wanted to say no and be selfish for the first time since he saw that guy first. He wanted to get their order so he could see his smile up close. But his heart also saying that there’s no way this guy would like Hanbin. He’s not that kind of guy. Hanbin was 100% sure that this guy was as straight as a ruler and there would be no chance for him.
While Hayi, Hayi was the prettiest girl for Hanbin. He knew he didn’t like girls in that way, but for Hanbin, Hayi was gorgeous. She had long black hair with big round eyes and cute lips. She could be a dork and still looked beautiful. Any normal men would fall for her charm.
Hanbin ever thought that if one day his parents forced him to marry, the only girl he could think of was Hayi. Hayi probably would understand her best friend’s situation and agreed to marry him. There’s no way he came out to his parents. Beside, his parents already knew Hayi for too long and they would be happy if he ended up marry her. The thought of him and Hayi would have family together is so gross for Hanbin.
So he agreed. He gave up his crush again for the nth time. He always let Hayi win.
“Kim Mambin-sshi”, the barista called, but Hanbin was too tired to even care because in the end, Hayi would be the one that took their order and met him (and probably will date him in the future).
The guy called his name again but this time Hayi heard it and she immediately went up to the bar to take the order. Hanbin saw the barista guy also gave Hayi his sweetest smile and thanking her. He didn’t know if that guy was naturally kind or it’s just obligation.
Hayi went back to their seat with happy smile on his face. She kept talking about her encounter with that cute barista. All her words went blur for Hanbin. He didn’t pay attention and only gave nod and shrug as a response. Hayi was ecstatic to notice Hanbin’s drastic mood change.
It was late and Hanbin just wanted to go home. He wanted to forget his crush to the cute barista when Hayi suddenly said something that made Hanbin wanted to explode. She asked Hanbin to send a note for that barista. Hanbin wanted to scream at her. He really wanted to tell her that he’s also having crush for that guy. But in the end, he didn’t do that. He tried to fake his reaction instead. And being the best friend who always supporting her, he only could give small words of encouragement. The words itself could lit up Hayi’s mood.
“Please write my name and my number in the napkin”, she said while giving Hanbin her pen.
“I just write your name and your number? That’s it?”
“No, dummy. Write something. A message. I don’t know, maybe something like ‘Hey, if you’re not gay, my friend thinks you’re cute. Here’s her number: 010-0923-1996.’ Whatever you want, Hanbin.”
“Fine.” He wrote the exact same words as what Hayi had told him and also wrote her name.
“Wait, did you really write it?” her voice full with shock after she read what Hanbin had written on the napkin. “Are you crazy?”
“Why? You are the one that told me to write this!”
“Yeah but I didn’t think you would do that for real!”
She looked at the napkin once again and laughed. “Well, it’s okay though. It’s a funny message even though I’m sure he is straight. C’mon, let’s go home!”
Hayi stood up from her seat and gather all her belongings including all her shopping bags while Hanbin walked to the bar again. He read and reread the napkin. He was contemplating to do something crazy. He usually let his crush on someone aside, but this time, he felt the urgency to do something or he might be going crazy instead. The cute barista was one of a kind and he was different with any guys that Hanbin ever met before. He probably would never meet with this guy again later. This was his only chance.
“Fuck it”, he thought. So, he grabbed a pen near the cashier and wrote something under Hayi’s message.
‘And if you are gay, here’s mine: 010-1022-1996. The name is Kim Hanbin by the way, not Kim Mambin’
He folded the napkin neatly so the message that visible in the front was Hayi’s message, but if the barista unfolds the napkin he also could see Hanbin’s message under it. He gather up his courage and walked to the barista. The guy was talking to the cashier guy and immediately stopped when he saw Hanbin was standing in front of the bar.
“Can I help you, sir?” He asked politely.
It was the first time Hanbin heard his voice beside calling other customer’s name. He liked that voice already.
“Umm… My friend wants me to give you this”, he handed the napkin and say thanks. He left the cafe right away because he couldn’t stand his wildly beating heart. He also missed the face on the cute barista when he unfolded the napkin and saw their messages.
---
One week later Hanbin received a message from unknown number. At first he was confused because he didn’t remember he gave his number to stranger. The sudden realization hit him and he almost screamed at his room.
“Hey, Kim Hanbin not Kim Mambin. I’m the cute barista from the cafe you were asking out last week. We should go on date some time, I know this delicious Mexican restaurant near Hongdae. The name is Kim Jiwon, by the way :)”
He never expecting he would get a message from the cute barista, let alone knew his name. He had given up and thought that maybe, just maybe, the barista already contacted Hayi and asked her to go on a date. But here he was, reading and rereading the same message for hundredth times and couldn’t stop smiling.
It was just a simple message asking if he wanted to go on a date to Mexican restaurant near Hongdae but the sender itself was the one who made him smile from ear to ear. He replied with a simple “Yes, I’d love to” to that message immediately. And if he needed to make an explanation to Hayi, he thought that girl could understand her best friend.

garden spirit!jeno
garden spirit!jeno • hey lets go to visual king jeno now which only makes SENSE THAT HE CAME OUT OF NATURE he is so ethereal ANYWAYS LETS BEGIN • you were just a little kid going out to go out in your parents garden with a bright blue pail and shovel because you wanted to plant these daisies that you had picked up from the store • and you don't know why you enjoyed gardening so much as a kid??? but you were a pretty patient kid contrary to what most other kids were and you just kind of found peace in it • and you're headed out to the garden when you notice something is a little off?? why are there flowers already in your little spot of dirt because the daisy packet was right in your hand • and you're confused now because that was supposed to be your spot and someone took it and you're pouty and about to start crying before you hear a rustle in the bushes and a pair of mesmerizing eyes flash at you in the bush • and you drop your bucket because right by the pair of eyes is the prettiest flower you've ever seen and you're like OOH PRETTY and so of course you go to approach but the pair of eyes moves backwards • and you were so distracted by the flower you forgot about the eyes and so now you're even more curious and you crouch down and cup your hands around your mouth and tell whatever it is not to be scared • and of course the figure flinches because of the decibel of your voice??? and you realize that and mumble out a quick sorry before saying it quieter and you put your hand out as a harmless peaceful embrace • and instead of being greeted with a hand A FLOWER JUST APPEARS IN YOUR HAND LIKE IT JUST BLOOMED and you guessed it it's a daisy • and now you're even more curious you're like who are you??? are you a tree with eyes??? • and this makes the "tree" laugh and it's such a light and whimsical sound but he says his name is jeno and from now on you only called him jeno the tree • jeno was in fact actually a boy, a boy of the forest if you want to be SPECIFIC, and his skin was adorned with vines wrapped around his arms and legs with little leaves poking out of random places and jeno's eyes sparkle green and his hair is so soft and blonde • but jeno doesn't reveal himself to you for a LOOOONG time let me tell you but he's there everyday when you come skipping home from school and you go to meet him in your backyard and he tells you how to plant things correctly and what's the right soil to use and he tells you he can talk to plants and you're just like WOAH • but one day when you come home it's raining and you're instantly like oh no jeno is going to need some shelter so you run out with the biggest jacket you can find because you're expecting to cover a tree are you not • and so you're screaming for jeno and holding the jacket out in front of you and now you're getting drenched but you have to cover jeno and you keep calling for him and your voice is hoarse until the jacket disappears from your hand and is suddenly covering your head • and it's jeno and he just has this concerned look in his eyes because you're still so small out in the rain where you can get sick??? and this is when you finally see that jeno is in fact not a tree but his height difference is almost big enough to be compared to one even for your age • and you see the vines around his arms and woah you just are staring at him in awe and now jeno's flustered and pulls you into the shrouded area where a little leaf rooftop comes over your head and wow he just did that • and you're just staring at him so intently that a blush is creeping into his cheeks and flowers JUST START BLOOMING OUT OF NOWHERE • and you don't know at the time but whenever jeno gets flustered and nervous flowers appear but these this time are roses • and you're just having the time of your life like you're out in a rain storm with jeno who isn't a tree??? and now it's basically a botanical garden??? • and so of course you start asking jeno all kinds of questions like how long has he been here how old is he can he make any kind of plant grow and he responds he's just a few years older than you and he's been here ever since he was born because he's sorta forced to this area??? • and you're like oKAY but you stay in the forest the whole time and just watch the squirrels and jeno's face is confused yet amused and he's shaking his head and leading you back through the brush past a lake where you're pretty sure you saw another boy watching you until jeno gestures to the house • he tells you he can go into the house and that's about as far as he can go because if not he gets really weak since nowhere is like his forest and you're like oh jeno it's your forest are you it's prince • AND BOY HIS FACE IS REDDER THAN THE REDDEST ROSE LET ME TELL YOU • and he's shyly like does that make you its princess and you're like what and he's LIKE NEVERMIND • and as the years go by you and jeno are becoming teens and IS PUBERTY A ROUGH TIME FOR YOU TWO mainly because jeno decided to go through a phase where he would wear a leaf mask like nct do at airports because he was self conscious if he broke out and you're just feeling the emotions of being a teenager but you always found peace in the garden • and jeno's feelings are getting softer because he's growing up and so YOUR BACKYARD IS COVERED IN ROSES and you're like hey jeno are you in LOVE or something • and he'd get so nervous that even more roses would pop up and he'd run off into the forest for a few hours and just lie there with his heart fluttering • and whenever he did come back you're like why can they be daisies next time and jeno never makes any promises but you sure as heck know that boy is going to spend the whole night working on a flower • and of course later on you're like jeno I WANT TO MEET YOUR FRIENDS and he's really like no but there you go already inviting yourself in • and you're just giving everyone a big smile and like hey everyone im jenos • AND THEYRE LIKE OH JENOS GIRLFRIEND RIGHT • and then your face is red and jeno's face is red and all of a sudden these roses just start appearing out of nowhere??? • and doyoung's yelling for jeno to cut it out and renjun and sicheng are sneezing their heads off because of sensitive smell and ten is just like why is it all of a sudden a rose festival is it because of jenos girlfriend • and you're like jeno ??? what have you been telling them and jeno's like as red as the roses now and he kinda wants to just leave but he's kinda forced to explain • and this boy confesses to you literally in a room full of roses like come on THATS REALLY ROMANTIC and you don't even let him finish before you envelop him in a hug • and everyone is just collectively aww'ing because LIKE MARK THIS WAS LOOOOONG OVERDUE • so now the boys wouldn't have to worry about random roses in the house at least now when you're not there • and jeno rushes to his room and comes back with a pot and the prettiest daisy you've probably ever seen in your whole life??? • and you can just tell that jeno's put his heart and soul into this one because it seems just as ethereal!!! and it's like the purest symbol of his love for you ISNT IT SO SWEET • you and jeno are just like the cutest couple ever let me tell you he's always showing you a flower field or helping you out in your garden still to this day • because hey that is where you guys met right!!! its basically your unofficial first date spot • and of course jeno would tell you out of all the flowers that you were the most beautiful THIS IS A SOFT BOY RIGHT HERE • all in all, jeno is the sweetest boyfriend who showers you in his love and flowers everyday just to remind you how much he loves you another part of my collab with @dest-writes !!!

@thassalia asked for the Fanfic Meme:
1. Things that Inspire you?
Music, almost 100% music, art and other authors. Actually honestly nearly anything and everything is inspiring, the littlest thing can can produce an idea at the drop of a hat.
3. Name three favorite writers.
. @thassalia and @handypolymath , when you two get together you make magic, also super fantastic on your own. @ireallyhopethismakesuseven is fantastic and I love all her stuff ❤️
24. Favorite scene you’ve ever written?
From one of my first fics, the Avengers are hanging post battle waiting for the suits to give them the green light to leave. It’s snowing and cold and Hulk wraps one giant meaty hand around Nat’s shoulder keeping her warm. It’s terrible and silly and OOC but it was the first real thing I wrote since middle school and i have a soft spot for it. I suppose it wants me to post the scene here, but it’s more the entire damn fic, and I don’t need to bring that much attention to it 😬
46. Share a scene from a story you haven’t published yet?
I’ve been playing around with a Monster Hunter/ Steam Punk AU for the longest time, it’s something I would love to get off the ground.
Natasha Romanoff, leaned back in her chair, bringing the glass to her lips. The frothy head of the dark sweet beer tickled her lips as she took a long draw. The brew was thick and malty with a hint of honey, more of a meal than an actual drink. Setting the pint glass down she pulled the earthenware bowl of stew closer. The dark gravy was thick with barley and mutton. Peas, carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, and cubes of potatoes hung suspended in the dark broth waiting her spoon. To the side was a loaf of soft soda bread studded with little raisins, soaked in butter.
To her left her partner sat hunched over his bowl, like a dog guarding a bone, shoveling spoonful after spoonful of stew into his mouth. Clint Barton was a stout man, broad shouldered and thick armed. He wore his blonde hair close cropped, and his heavy brows permanently drawn together. But despite the man’s permanent outward scowl, he was was lighthearted and forever a child.
They sat at a well worn and pock marked table, pushed snugly into the corner farthest from the bar. Despite being in the lonely gray village of Starks Hollow little less than a month, they had quickly claimed the little table as their own. Not only was it located in a prime spot by the ever roaring fire (the cold seemed a permanent thing in Starks Hollow), but it also provided an unobstructed view of the entire establishment. Being in their line of work required establishing certain habits if you wanted to live. It was the particular reason She and her partner where holed up in this little god forsaken Hollow.
There was something in the hills that spooked farmers and fouled their crops and animals. It was Natasha and Clint’s job to find out what. Natasha was fairly certain it was a lone wolf and a whole heaping pile of superstition, but Commander Fury had been adamant they go out and perform a full investigation. So far the duo had come across nothing but old wives tales and school house ghost stories.
Clint was enjoying himself, he considered it his first official on the job vacation, and intended to use Fury’s purse to fund it. Most days found her partner sleeping in until noon, interviewing the prettiest girls the village had to offer, putting on impromptu trick shot shows, and drinking the tavern dry. He was having the time of his life.
Natasha on the other hand felt her talents were being wasted in such a tiny village as Starks Hollow. She much preferred the work that made a difference. Natasha had a very specific skill set, she could blend in anywhere and everywhere using her short stature and fine features to fool just about anyone. She could lull men and women both into her web of false security, letting her prey believe they had the advantage before she would strike. Or on some occasions, place the target just so for her partner to take out with an arrow or two to the back.
A frigid sweep of cool late afternoon air ushered a patron through the door, briefly illuminating the dark bar with the low orange light of the setting sun. The newcomer closed the door quickly and headed straight for the bar. Even with his head low, nose buried into a ragged scarf, she could tell she hadn’t met this fellow before. She had managed to interview just about every citizen of the Hollow, even those secluded farmers, but she didn’t recall this man.
He wasn’t particularly tall, though he did have a full head of dark curling hair that just touched the collar of his coat. He had a scraggly mess of a beard, flecked with hints of silver. Under the beard his cheeks were hallow, the bags under his eyes were dark smudges on pale skin. His coat looked to large and hung off thin shoulders. His clothes were frayed, patched, and travel worn.
She watched as he sat on a stool and flagged down the tavern keepers wife. Frigga was a grand and stately woman, beautiful silver and blond curls elegantly piled atop her head while thin bits of silver dripped from her ears. Her Husband, Odin owned the Raven’s Jig, but Frigga was the woman in charge keeping her husband, two sons and a whole slew of patrons in line. There was none that Frigga didn’t know.
She approached the newcomer and stared him down, from where Natasha sat she couldn’t read the new comers lips, but he must of said something to Frigga. The woman gasped, hand flying to her mouth, a pleased smile slowly crawled across her face. She reached out and gripped the mans thin wrist.
She said something threw her fingers Natasha couldn’t read, reaching out to tweak the whiskers at his chin. He ducked his head hiding his chin back into his scarf.
“Sit tight, Dear. Let me fetch you something warm to eat.” She patted the mans wrist and turned toward the kitchens.
The man slumped back into the stool, hunching his shoulders and wringing one of Friggas cloth napkins.
A fresh pint was sat down in front of she and Clint, frothy head spilling down the side of the glass. Odin and Frigga eldest son smiled down at Natasha as he gathered up the spent pint glasses. With long golden hair and matching beard, Thor was easily the best looking man for miles around. Wide shoulders and even wider grin, the man was as strong as an ox and kind to boot. If he wasn’t already so besotted with Miss Jane Foster the baker, Natasha was inclined to take a page out of Clint’s book.
She reached out and grabbed at his sleeve. Motioning toward the newcomer she asked who he was.
Thor scratched his beard, left hand easily holding all their discarded dishes.
“I’m unsure, though mother seems to know him.” Frigga had returned from the kitchen, heaping bowl of stew in one hand and an over flowing glass of golden cider in the other. She sat down the meal before him and started chatting. Thor threw Natasha a cheeky grin “want me to find out for you?”
“If you don’t mind.” Natasha ducked her own head, tugging at her red braid. Let him think she was interested in the guy, things usually went smoother that way.
Thor’s laugh was like a clap of thunder, his big hand patted her slim shoulder. “Consider it done!”
Clint nudged her elbow, coming up for air. He quirked a heavy brow reaching for his new glass. Natasha jerked her chin in the direction of the man at the bar.
“New guy.”
He nodded, humming. They both watched as Thor sauntered up to the bar, golden braids swinging. He passed off his load of dishes to his dark haired younger brother, who scowled sourly. He swung his tree trunk like arm around his Mother kissing her temple. Frigga laughed, and swatted at her Son. She gestured to the Other man, than back to her Son. Thor stared at the other man, smile slipping and brows pulling together in thought. He studied the man for a moment more, before another exited and slightly disbelieving laugh and grabbing the the man and pulling him into as much an embrace as he could with the bar in the way.
The other man laughed a bit nervously, patting Thor awkwardly on his massive shoulder. Pulling backed Thor set about pelting the dark haired man with a rapid string of questions, which he answered, fingers fiddling with his spoon. The questions would have gone on all night if Frigga hadn’t shooed her Son off.
Thor went about some of his duties, though a giddy energy kept his usual swagger tight. Thor was not a subtle man. He returned to the table, pulling out a chair and settling down with his own pint. He looked like a school girl ready to share a bit of juicy gossip.
He jerked his whiskered chin over his shoulder. “That is Bruce Banner.” He said the name as if of course they should know who that was and be just as excited as he. Clint and Natasha flicked a quick sideways glance at each other.
“ I grew up with him, well we weren’t really close. He and Stark were inseparable, though. I wouldn’t doubt to see Stark storming through those doors in the next few minutes. Close as brothers he and Banner.” His younger brother, Loki passed their table with a disgusted snort. “Well most brothers.” His grin only widened.
“ His Father was Brian Banner and his Mother was Rebecca. I remember her, sweetest lady you would have ever met. Used to keeps sweets in her apron pockets.” He laughed brightly again “ Loki got the lot of us believing she was a Swan Maiden and Mr. Banner was hiding her skin. Stark, Banner, Volstagg, Hogun, Fandral, Sif, Jane, and Pepper, all of us searched those hills high and low for hours. Ohh our clothes got so muddy, we all would have gotten a turn with the paddle if Mrs. Banner hadn’t found us first. “ he took a swig “ cleaned us up and stuffed us with bread and molasses. We told her the whole story, cried that we didn’t want her to stay captured, but that we didn’t want her to leave. She laughed and sang to us, her voice was like silver bells. She told us the even if she was a Swan Maiden she would never leave.” Suddenly Thor’s smile dimmed “She died a few short years later.” He played with the edge of his glass.
“What happens to her?” Clint asked around a mouthful of buttery soda bread.
“Mauled, by some wild beast. No one knows why she was out on the moors so late. But they found her the next morning along the side of the road with her throat ripped and her entire chest pulled apart. Gutted like a fish, not an organ in sight. Most believe she was the first human victim of the Hound.” Here Thor dropped his voice a bit.
Natasha nodded her head, she knew The Hound, it was the reason why she and Clint where stuck here. Supposedly there was a great black Hound, with eyes as red as hell, claws as long as pitchforks, and a howl that froze you to the spot. It was said he slept under the hills until the moon was full, then he would gallop across the moors dragging death in his wake.
Pure poppy-cock in Natasha’s opinion. There is no such creature in any guide book or grimoire she was aware off. At best it was a sick wolf, at worst some faery hound, but nothing she and Clint couldn’t handle.
“Any way, she died, Bruce didn’t take it well. Started quarreling with Brian Banner. It got so bad that one day Bruce had just up and left. We don’t know if Old Brian gave him the boot or Bruce left on his own. But he has been gone now a good fifteen years.”
“Brian Banner, that’s the name of the fellow who went missing?” Natasha leaned forward.
“Aye, he did. Hound came back for him, some think.”
“You don’t sound to sorry about Mr. Banner?”
Thor blushed lightly and look a mite ashamed. “ Ah, well he was” he scratched at his beard, thinking hard. Natasha knew these types, superstition ran deep in their blood. Best not say anything ill toward the dead, else they will rise from their graves and haunt you.
“He was particular.” Thor nodded sagely, proud of his diplomatic descriptor.
So Brian Banner was an unpopular ass hole.
“Was he always particular?” Asked Clint.
Thor nodded and drained the rest of his pint. “Ever since I could remember. Old Brian didn’t much care for children, he would run us off the moment he stepped in from his fields. Makes you wonder just why he would have a child in the first place.”
Clint nodded as well, draining his own glass. Then for the second time the inn door pitched open wide bringing in with it the chill of the night. Thor chuckled and rose from his seat.
“I told you.” He gathered up the rest of their glasses and bowls and headed for the kitchen, back to work.
Tony Stark entered the inn with an extravagant flourish of his long cherry red coat. He made a show of placing his fists on his hips and scanning the crowded tables and bar before landing on Bruce Banner.
“Odin, old man, since when do you serve mangy old dogs!” Odin rolled his one good eye and chewed on his pipe stem. Banner turned in his seat, a small grin painted his lips, dimming the shadows of his face and bringing back a little bit of boyish charm.
Stark gave a whoop and charged Banner, knocking his silk hat from his head as he crashed into the other man, pulling him tight into a brotherly bear hug.
