BLACK AND BLOOD
Y/N L/N is the daughter of the Great Khal Drogo although she was raised by the king of the unknown lands. After finding out he died she travels and finds the one who caused his death. Along this adventure she meets the mother of dragons. Jon Snow. Night walkers. We will see if she really has the Dothraki blood flowing through her veins.
Chapter 10
In the middle of a practice session we were interrupted by a knock on the door. “Jon. Are you in there” His hands gripped my hips to keep me from moving. I grinned a little knowing he wanted to keep quiet. When his hands started getting loose I started moving again, this time faster.
“Shit” I pushed him back and gripped his hands so he couldn’t hold me back. I continue to bounce, making it difficult to not let out a moan.
“We have been looking for you all morning!” This time Davos decicide to start knocking on the door again, multiple times. I looked down as he had his eyes closed, biting his lips, close to cumming. “ We are all in the great hall, Jaime Lannister is here and he came alone” None of his words caught my ear. It was only the wimpers Jons lips made as I continued to ride him.
“Alright” I say still on top of him as we both reached our highs. I lean down, taking in his lips. But somehow I couldn’t stop myself. The pressure of riding him even after we both came was soothing.
“Princess you need to stop” my head went to the side of his kissing any skin I could find. My hands move to his hair gripping it while he grips my hip moving it at a slow rhythm.
“Mhmm” I continued kissing him. The knott in my stomach started again. “We do” I whisper in his ear but his hands don’t move. His hips continue to sound of our skin. I heard him grunt and in the next second he was cumming again. I wasn’t too far away from him eitheir.
“I should have waited with the rest” I laughed at the sound of Davos walking away. I remove myself from him hissing at the sensitive feeling. My legs were tingling and I couldn’t find the strength to get dressed.
“Here” I turn to Jon who has put on his pants already. He had my clothes in his hands. He helped me get dressed and any chance he got he kissed any exposed skin until I was fully dressed. “Alright. Let's go see what Lannister wants” He takes my hand but I pull him back shaking my head. I could feel a blush kicking in.
“I will meet you there” A grin appeared on his face. He came closer, placing a kiss on my forehead before walking out the door. After he left it took a couple tries to learn how to walk properly again. With every step I could feel my legs tingle and every other part was sensitive to the touch.
“Princess. The queen gave us orders” Greyworm finds me as I step out the castle gate. I look around seeing traps being set up around the walls. The Unsullied, Dothraki, and the Northerners working all around. Greyworm and I went around making sure everything was going smoothly. The trenches on the front of the gate have been dugged so we needed to continue placing in the wooden big pikes inside. Dragonstone shaped like thorns on a rose were placed on the pikes. As we worked the cold was no longer felt.
“Do we have all the pikes in?” Greyworm nods. “Send some people inside to continue helping.” He nods again. I made my way inside stopping once I saw the view. Never have I seen something like this. Men, women, and children lining up to get some food. Surrounding them were some more pikes in different locations. Soldiers perparing for war. Swords going left to right. Worry and frieght showing in the peoples faces. I reached over to Daenerys who was talking to the maester. He dismissed himself as I walked into the room.
“You weren’t at the great hall this morning” I shake my head sitting down across from her.
“Yes. Got lost” Which was half the truth. They should put signs on the closest exit in this place.
“I spoke to Sansa. Seems like we are on the same page, except for one particular part” My eyebrows lift in confusion. “Winterfell” Daenerys simplys states. “I know she wants the north to be independent, she wants to be queen and not have to bid the rules of the ruler of the seven kingdoms” she looked up to me.
“I don’t think she wants to be queen. She is taking the lead as a queen and will wear the crown but only for the north.”
“Sounds like she doesn’t trust me with the north, I came here to help her and her home yet she still doesn’t trust me enough to believe I am capable on ruling the seven kingdom in peace”
“I think she knows you’re very capable of ruling the seven kingdoms. Yet you have to understand this is here home. She learned from her father and from experience that some things are best to keep at a distance. If you want my opinion, she is a strong person and loyal, if you come to any agreement she will bid her soul to the last word.” Her eyes pierced into mine. I can tell she didn’t like my responses. She was probably waiting for me to tell her she was right. The is the true heir of the seven kingdoms and as such, that includes the north.
“Are the traps set up outside the gate?” I nod. “Good. Have the soldiers well rested and
fed, well, as much as possible” She walks up and I follow her out. I bowed my head leaving her up on the balcony looking down at the common area outside. I help outside as much as possible until Davos comes to me and announces a meeting in the great room. I walk in and see Daenerys, her advisors, Jon and the tall redhead wildling around the table.
“The dead are coming, and they are coming before the next sun comes up” Tormund says around the room. I stand beside Sansa taking in what was around the table.
“They are strong. Our enemy doesn’t tire, stop, or feel” I look up across the room seeing Jon concentrate in finding a strategy. “We can’t beat them in a straight fight”
“So what can we do?” The guy I am guessing is Jaime Lannister speaks up.
“The Night King made them all. They follow his command. If he falls, getting to him may be our best chance.”
“If that's true, he'll never expose himself.”
“Yes, he will.” Everyone in the room turns to Bran. “He'll come for me. He's tried before, many times, with many Three-Eyed Ravens. He wants an endless night. He wants to erase this world, and I am its memory.”
“That's what death is, isn't it? Forgetting. Being forgotten. If we forget where we've been and what we've done, we're not men anymore. Just animals. Your memories don't come from books. Your stories aren't just stories. If I wanted to erase the world of men, I'd start with you.” Sam adds.
“His mark is on me. That is how he will find me.” Bran lifts the cuff og his arm and reveals a red mark. “He always knows where I am.We need to lure him into the open before his army destroys us all. I'll wait for him in the Godswood.”
“You want us to use you as bait?”
“Sansa is right,” I say. “You are leaving yourself wide open for him to take”
“ We're not leaving you alone out there.” Arya adds on. I can see the worry in each Stark kid.
“He won't be. I'll stay with him.” He tells the Starsks. He then turns to Bran. “With the Ironborn. I took this castle from you. Let me defend you now.” Bran nods.
“We'll hold off the rest of them for as long as we can.” I say to Bran.
“When the time comes, Ser Davos and I will be on the walls, to give you the signal to light the trench.” Tyrion says.
“The dragons should give us an edge in the field.” Davos was right. Hopefully the dragons can be of huge advantage. Can certainly even the field with how many undead soldiers they have.
If they're in the field, they're not protecting Bran. We need to be near him. Not too near, or the Night King won't come. But close enough to pursue him when he does.” Jons says. “Let's get some rest.” Around the room they all start walking out.
“Princess” I turn over and see Arya standing there. I don’t know why I was nervous but her presence had me looking around. I see Jon walking out with Daenerys and I bit my tongue. A girl is free to feel jealous right?
“It's just y/n” We start walking together towards the outside of the gate. “If you are into title maybe I should start calling you Lady Stark”
“Am no lady. Certainly don’t dress like one”
“You don’t say” We share a glance, laughing.
“So you are going to be in the front lines?” I nod. “Can I be in the front lines?” I stop in my tracks looking over at her. She was pretty serious about the statement.
“I don’t think you need my permission but since you are asking me,not in the front lines” I shake my head and continue to walk. “Start spreading the dragon glass to everyone” I tell Malakho. We stand beside the carriages seeing the weapons being dispersed.
“I know how to use a sword. I fight better than most of the soldiers around here.” As the lines are running smoothly I start to walk over the Greyworm. The Unsillied pulled on rope causing a large boulder to be thrown into the air by a large trebuchet. I turn over to see other Unsullied cleaning their weapons.
“Princess. Lady Stark” Greyworm bows at us.
“Greyworm” I stand closer to him. “Lady Stark will stand with you in the back line with the Unsullied. You are not to look after her as she is capable of doing that herself.” Greyworm nods. “She will be following straight orders from me, as the Unsullied will follow orders from her”
“Yes, Princess”
“Get them in formation.” Greyworm excuses himself. I turn over to Arya who looks at me in disbelief. “I know you can protect yourself, which is the reason why the Unsullied won’t. They will stand beside you and you as one of them” I walk closer staring into her eyes. “They are not soldiers, they are people. You are to be one of them now and as such, you will fight alongside them.” I straighten myself up. “If the Lady still wishes too”
“I need to take my stance then” She walks off to rush behind Greyworm. I need to find Jon. I rush up the stairs and look at places I know but I didn’t find him. I walk over the ends of the wall. I was thinking there was no way I was going searching into the maze this castle is. I am going to search the outside so I don’t come across Ghost. I made a sharp turn and the first thing I heard was a low Growl. Damn it. I look up and see Jon and Sam looking over the wall. Maybe Ghost knows me now? I didn’t want to disturb their conversation but the Arya thing was important.
“Have you told her yet?”
“No.” I hear Jon responds. I stop, now not really caring about Ghost’s stare.
“Mm-hmm. Being careful? Biding your time. Waiting for the perfect-” Their conversation stopped with a high pitch yelp I let out. Ghost pushed me to the ground and is now circling me.
“Ghost!” I hear Jons voice but it's too late. Ghost has laid down next to me with his head on my stomach. My arms fall to my side in relief.
“I think he likes you” I open my eyes seeing Jon and Sam looking down at me.
“Or he likes to play with his food” I hear them chuckle before Jon has the bright idea to push Ghost off and help me up.
“I need to speak to you about Arya” I clean myself up from the snow and look over to Jon. “She asked me if she could be in the front lines. I would have suggest otherwise but she has this stare, a stubborn stare that wouldn’t go away”
“All the Starks have it,” Sam adds. Jon gives him a glare, making him back away with a laugh. Sam excuses himself and leaves Jon and I alone.
“I can’t tell her what to do. If this is what she wants then I can’t stop her” another rush of relief passes through me
“Good. I placed her with Greyworm in the second stance. She will fight alongside them, if things get rough she will be one of the first ones to fall back into the gates.” At this time the sun has gone down. Now we are only waiting for the night to end. “What did Sam mean?” Jon raises his eyebrow. “He asked if you told her yet? Told who what?” I feel Jon grab my hand.
“I am the son of Rhaegar Targeryen and Lyanna Stark. Sam read it when he was studying to become a maester and Bran verified it” He needed to tell Daenerys.
“Do you think it's a good idea to tell her this? She has suffered for this crown. She will find you as a threat” Jon pulls me closer wrapping me into his arms.
“I have to tell her the truth. Just like it is true I am her brother's son, it's just as true that I don’t want a crown. I am not a threat to her claim to the throne.” I nod my head against him. I close my eyes, inhaling his presence. I chuckle hearing loud and clear Ghost’s growls. “When this is all over you and Ghost need to do one on one bonding”
“Oh yeah. We can go hunting. I hid and he hunted. Or maybe knitting, that fur coat can keep someone warm” That last part didn’t make him happy.
“No fur coats and no human hunting” Jon looks at both of us. Ghost scoffs at me and leaves.
“He doesn’t need all that fur!” I scream but I was grabbed by Jon
“Stop it” he warned with a smile. He had his hands holding my face which he used to pull me closer to him. I don’t know how but he made everything in my head vanish at that point. I pull back looking at him. Even in the shadow of the fire, Jon looked beautiful. “You’re so pretty” I laugh.
“I was just thinking how pretty you are” I removed my hands from around his waist to his face. “I love your hair. Those dark eyes. The way you stare” his furrowed eyebrows almost made me bust out laughing again. “The way you stare at others when you are mad. Your red nose and cheeks in the cold. I love your lips” I give him a quick kiss. My finger moved under his left eye and over the bridge of his nose to his right eyes. “The freckles that run along here” with his eyes closed he grabs hold of my hand and places it on his cheek. His head falls against the palm of my hand and a gentle smile appears. His other hand is already wrapped around my waist keeping close to him.
“Is there anything else you love?”
“Yes” I answer almost too fast. He opened his eyes in a quick second. “I love” I pull his face closer. “I love y-” I drag out the word seeing his eyes follow the movement of my lips. “-our thick eyebrows” I laughed as I felt his shoulders fall. His face made me laugh even harder.
“You know what I love?” He quickly recovered. Grabbing ahold of me. His eyes looked down at me while his arms kept in one place. The laugh so far forgotten. “I love you” oh no. Probably not the best thing to think about after someone confesses they love you but, oh no. What am I scared of? Nothing.
“I love you”

The World Over - Part II
Tumblr media
Genre:  Vikings/GOT Crossover Fan Fiction
Overall Rating: MA – violence, language, strong sexual content
Summary: Ivar the Boneless and Daenerys Targaryen find themselves unlikely allies. But each has something that the other needs to get them what they want. He has the tactical skill to take her all the way to Kings Landing. She has the dragon army that will give him all of England, possibly Norway. Will they be each other’s savior or demise?
A/N: Neither show’s timeline is cannon.  They aren’t meant to be - I’d have to do a lot of finessing to make everything work if I kept to the script!
Little Orphan Dany
Thoughts weighed heavily on the young woman's mind. How was she, a mere 19-year-old, one of the most feared women on this side of the Narrow Sea? She didn't want to be feared. She wanted to be loved – by her brother, by the people, by her khalasar…by her sun and her stars; her beloved Drogo.
Turning over in her bed, Daenerys Targaryen let out an audible sigh. This was not the life she had imagined. Her brother, Viserys, was the one that wanted to reclaim the Iron Throne, not her. She just wanted to go home. Only, where was home? She was a bastard without a country, driven out by the usurper Robert Baratheon during the slaughter of her family.
Looking out at the rooftops of Meereen, Dany thought back to where her home could be. When she was younger, she used to believe that her home was somewhere in Westeros – though she wasn't sure where. She never felt apart of Westeros.
At one point in time, she believed her home was the island of Dragonstone - the ancestral home of the Targaryens, and where she was born. Her mother had still been heavy with Daenerys in her belly when she escaped with Viserys after King Robert put himself on the Iron Throne. Her mother died giving birth to Dany in that place.
Viserys had tried to convince Dany that their home was in King’s Landing. Dany was sure if they ever made it there that he would have spent most of his time parading her around at court like she was a slave on sale at auction. He had filled her head with so many stories about the Red Keep, that she often wondered how he could remember what it looked like seeing as he was so young when they fled. There was no doubt in her mind that he would have tried to use her to gain every favor with every lord and nobleman in all of King’s Landing. The thought made her shutter.
Would she really be connected to King’s Landing? That was where her father had ruled. So much blood had been spilled there. So many people changed allegiances, like the ebbing of the tide. Not knowing who to trust, who was on your side...
Plus she had heard they kept the remains of the dragons of the Kings of Old within the Red Keep. What kind of horrible place was that? She would probably be as much a stranger there as she would be on the Wall.
The more she thought about it, the more she knew that her only home had ever been with Drogo. Khal Drogo. How she missed her Drogo. He had been her everything.
She was been totally against it when Viserys had Magister Illyrio arrange the marriage. She only dared to say something one time to her brother and the look in his eyes was enough for her to never utter any other words about the match again. Viserys had beat her before, but she had never angered him enough to 'wake the dragon' which he always threatened to do. She did not really know what that meant, nor did she want to find out.
Being the dutiful sister, Dany prepared to marry a complete and total stranger. Not only did she not know this man who was almost 10 years her senior, but they were from two different worlds. They did not speak the same language or share the same customs. She literally did not have any idea what or how to do as a married woman, let alone as a wife of a Khal.
The day Daenerys first saw Drogo, she was petrified. She could not will her feet to move toward him as she stood on the balcony for his inspection. She was just a girl. She had just barely had her blood for a full lunar season, and she was expected to have sex with this man. And that's what he was – a man. Khal Drogo was a huge man, full of muscles and stood at a full 6'4" tall. His hair was the deepest shade of black she had ever seen and hung in a long ponytail that landed on his horse when he sat astride it.
They were each other's polar opposite. He had the most exotic toffee-colored skin and chocolate eyes, compared to Dany's boring pale skin, towhead and blue eyes. Where he was tall and hard, she was just above 5 feet and soft. He was dark and brooding, she was pale and childlike. She could see callouses on his hands as he gripped the reins of his horse. Her hands were as smooth as silk reminding her that she had never done a day's labor in her life. He smelled like sweat, oil, and sand. She smelled like rose water. He spoke in a guttural language that she did not understand. She spoke the common tongue and Old Valyrian, which to him sounded like gibberish. There were no two things that they had in common.
She had no mother or sister to explain to her what was supposed to happen on her wedding night. Only a brother who told her to make sure she pleased him. And that advice was only because Viserys wanted, no needed something from her betrothed. Daenerys didn't even know the first things about the Dothraki, except they were violent, nomadic horse lords who probably mounted their women like a steed mounted a mare.
She knew nothing about the man she was to marry and even less than that about sex. And when he took her, she had been afraid and cried. She cried for weeks after that night – every time he took her. She knew people found it pleasurable. The Dothraki were not shy about sex, they had it out in the open for the entire horde to see. But she didn't know what she was doing and couldn't communicate with her husband to ask him to show her.
She longed for the passion that the bards and poets spoke of, so she sought the help of her slave. She learned to talk to her husband, and how to love him.
Drogo and Dany worked. Somehow, they fit together like a hand and glove. Drogo became the air that Daenerys breathed. He taught her love and confidence in herself that she did not know she possessed. She taught him patience and that a Khal did not always have to be ruthless during the quiet times between a husband and wife. There's was a match brought together by the old gods and the new.
And Rhaego…her sweet Rhaego. He was promised to be the Stallion Who Mounts the World, if only he had lived. The thought of the son that she and Drogo created was a memory that was too hard for her to bear. She lost her son and her husband in rapid succession. She went from being a wife and a mother for all of those months to now this...
Losing her two great loves had changed her. She went into the flames as Daenerys Targaryen and came out Daenerys Stormborn – The Mother of Dragons. Rhaegal, Viserion, and Drogon were now her children – her young dragons were so much like children. She cared for them and protected them, and in return they loved her. Her three sons were going to avenge their family name in Westeros.
The Lannisters did not deserve her father's throne and she would reclaim it for her husband and son.
Now she was here. A Khaleesi, with her own khalasar, an army of Unsullied soldiers and the Second Sons at her command. Not to mention, she had the entire country of Meereen to liberate from slavers. No wonder she was having trouble sleeping. If only Drogo were here to put his strong arms around her and pull her into his embrace. She would easily be able to drift off into a deep slumber. He would help her strategize a plan to free the slaves, help the merchants, and punish the masters. Then maybe she could concentrate on a way to recruit more soldiers for her army and plan how to get their horde across the Narrow Sea.
Tumblr media
"This is impossible," Dany huffed, sitting up to lift the pitcher of cool water next to her bed. She filled an empty goblet, sat down the pitcher and placed the glass to her lips. Breathing in deeply, she closed her eyes and said a silent prayer that the water had not been poisoned before she took a large gulp. "I am no war strategist.”
Looking over to her bed, she turned up her lip and shook her head. Daario meant well, but he was not what she needed. He wasn't Drogo. He did not even come close. Why was she allowing him to take company in her bed? She barely enjoyed his company during the waking hours, let alone at night. This had to stop. Loneliness was no cause for desperation.
Carefully, she swung her feet over the side of the bed and place them into awaiting slippers. She stood, grabbing the pale blue silk robe. She slipped the fabric over her arms, transporting the goblet from one hand to the other, as not to spill the liquid inside. She continued to drink, as she made her way out of her chamber.
As Dany walked the dimly lit hallways, she pondered where to go. She could see who was in the council room, and perhaps talk strategy on how to get the slavers of Yunkai back under control. Or perhaps, since the night was so nice, she would take a walk to the clearing and visit with her dragons.
She continued to walk down the hall until she heard voices and the soft flutter of laughter. The light lilt made her stop and smile. As quickly as the laughing started it stopped. Dany slowly rounded the corner and tried to stop the corners of her mouth from turning up.
Grey Worm stood at attention, arching his back and holding his head at up, "My Queen."
"Torgo Nudho," Dany nodded at Grey Worm, "Missandei." She turned and looked at her most trusted advisor, then back to Grey Worm. "If you will excuse me for a moment, I need to discuss some things with Missandei," she noticed the lightning-quick flicker of disappointment that flashed across Grey Worm's face and how it disappeared almost as quickly.
Clenching his jaws, he bowed to Daenerys, before stealing a look at Missandei and exiting the room.
A huge smile split Dany's face in two. Grabbing the darker woman by the arm, she ushered Missandei over to the window bench aligned with soft pillows and sat her down beside her. "So…tell me. Are there new developments between you and Grey Worm?" Dany held her goblet in both hands and guided it to her lips. She kept her eyes eagerly trained on her friend.
Missandei was thoughtful in her answer, but as usual, kept her face very neutral and her voice calm, "No developments as of yet. But, I have noticed the way he watches me. It is no longer like is protecting me. There is another look in his gaze, now." Playing with the hem of her gown, she furrowed her brows. "I am starting to feel differently toward him. But, I don't know that I should. I don't know that I can…that he can…if we could ever…"
Dany put her hand on her friend's arm to quiet her questions, "In this uncertain time, I know one thing to be true. We all must find love when and where we can. We don't know if tomorrow is promised to us. Stop worrying about if you or he or you both can, whatever. Think about what you can do, and what you enjoy doing, together." She let her gaze go to the other side of the room, "While we are in Meereen, we have it easy. When we cross the Narrow Sea, things will change. Steal away as much time with him as you can. These times may not be afforded to you, later."
"Is that what you are doing with Daario?" Missandei looked at her lap, then up at Dany's face, afraid she had overstepped her bounds. "I mean no harm, but I do not understand why you share your bed with him. You barely tolerate him."
Dany let out a hearty laugh, "I know!" She sat her goblet on the floor beside her and took Missandei's hand in hers. "I grow bored here. I can listen to the quarrels of farmers all day and think of how to get to King’s Landing. The truth is being here," she motioned around the room, "bores me. We are building a great army that grows stronger by the day. My dragons are growing big and strong. Soon, there will be nothing standing in the way of me taking back the Iron Throne. I have the army to do it, but not the plan. That's why I spend time with Daario. I keep hoping one day something brilliant will come out of his pretty mouth, but nothing ever does."
"What about Ser Jorah? He must have a plan." Missandei chimed in.
"Nothing that will not cause me to lose more than half of the Dothraki, Unsullied and Second Sons. I am not prepared to sacrifice them." Dany stood up and walked over to the large table, picking up one of the war pieces on the map and turned it over in her hand. "I need a tactician. Someone to beat them at their own game. When our army comes, we will give them a fight like they have never seen before." Turning back to her friend, she smiled softly, "So I say again, go, find your man. Enjoy him now. Soon, we will rain fire upon Westeros."

The Beggar Queen
Following up my post on Daenerys in A Game of Thrones, I also have a lot of thoughts on her arc in A Clash of Kings. In many ways it’s a very unexpected continuation of her story; at the end of A Game of Thrones, she has just hatched three dragons and walked out of a burning pyre, seemingly at the top of the world. Instead of a more typical fantasy story, A Clash of Kings sends Daenerys back down to being powerless. There’s a reality to how GRRM writes the story; sure, she has three dragons, but what good are they in the middle of a vast desert? What good are they when they can’t even fly or breathe fire yet? These are all questions Daenerys has to try and find answers to, while also trying to keep her and her people alive. And she’s also trying to build an army and fleet to take her to Westeros while navigating the wonders and horrors of Qarth.
The Bleeding Star
When Daenerys is about to step into Drogo’s funeral pyre in A Game of Thrones, she looks up to the stars and sees a streaking red comet blazing across the sky, and sees it as a sign of her dragons. That same comet guides her through the Red Waste in A Clash of Kings:
The Dothraki named the comet shierak qiya, the Bleeding Star. The old men muttered that it omened ill, but Daenerys Targaryen had seen it first on the night she had burned Khal Drogo, the night her dragons had awakened. It is a herald of my coming, she told herself as she gazed up into the night sky with wonder in her heart. The gods have sent it to show me the way.
The comet is the connecting thread between everyone in the story. From each point of view character, we learn some new truth or interpretation for what it means:
Cressen had never seen a comet half so bright, nor yet that color, that terrible color, the color of blood and flame and sunsets
- Prologue
That night she lay upon her thin blanket on the hard ground, staring up at the great red comet. The comet was splendid and scary all at once. "The Red Sword," the Bull named it; he claimed it looked like a sword, the blade still red-hot from the forge. When Arya squinted the right way she could see the sword too, only it wasn't a new sword, it was Ice, her father's greatsword, all ripply Valyrian steel, and the red was Lord Eddard's blood on the blade after Ser Ilyn the King's Justice had cut off his head.
- Arya I
Doubtless that was what they told Joffrey; Sansa was not so sure. "I've heard servants calling it the Dragon's Tail."
"King Joffrey sits where Aegon the Dragon once sat, in the castle built by his son," Ser Arys said. "He is the dragon's heir—and crimson is the color of House Lannister, another sign. This comet is sent to herald Joffrey's ascent to the throne, I have no doubt. It means that he will triumph over his enemies."
- Sansa I
When Bran repeated that to Osha, she laughed aloud. "Your wolves have more wit than your maester," the wildling woman said. "They know truths the grey man has forgotten." The way she said it made him shiver, and when he asked what the comet meant, she answered, "Blood and fire, boy, and nothing sweet."
- Bran I
All of those descriptions of the comet have one thing in common – Daenerys Targaryen. Whether it be Cressen seeing Fire & Blood in the sky, Arya seeing beauty and horror and Valyrian steel and blood, Sansa calling it the Dragon’s Tail and Arys Oakheart seeing it as the coming of Aegon’s heir, or Osha’s warning to Bran of “blood and fire, and nothing sweet.”, Daenerys is tied to the comet. Because it was meant for her. In the House of the Undying, Daenerys learns that the warlocks sent it to guide her to Qarth so they could feed off her and her dragons.
So, what does it mean, that this comet belongs to Daenerys? I think it’s very similar to how waking the dragon was used in A Game of Thrones. All of our protagonists find horror in the red streak across the sky, where only our antagonists (such as Theon) believe it belongs to them. In one way, all of the ominous foreshadowing for the comet is because the Warlocks were trying to kill Daenerys with it. But, the symbolism of the comet aligns shockingly well with Daenerys’ own path. She thinks it’s a sign of her reign, of her coming glory in the Seven Kingdoms. But instead, it leads her toward ruin; while she narrowly manages to escape the House of the Undying, following the comet almost kills her. The comet is just like the Queenship she’s chasing in Westeros; this thing she can’t let go of, that she’ll follow blindly, until it destroys her.
The comet also allows us to fully understand what Daenerys now represents to the people who saw her step out of Drogo’s Pyre:
"We follow the comet," Dany told her khalasar. Once it was said, no word was raised against it. They had been Drogo's people, but they were hers now. The Unburnt, they called her, and Mother of Dragons. Her word was their law.
Daenerys is very far from a normal political figure or leader; she is a messiah figure to her people, the product of hundreds of years of magic and prophecy. Her khalasar will follow her through the desert chasing a comet, because they watched her do the impossible. This kind of relationship she has with her people is crucial to understanding how Daenerys reacts to them. She puts an immense amount of pressure on herself to live up to the legend that made her the Mother of Dragons:
They are not strong, she told herself, so I must be their strength. I must show no fear, no weakness, no doubt. However frightened my heart, when they look upon my face they must see only Drogo’s queen. She felt older than her fourteen years. If ever she had truly been a girl, that time was done.
Daenerys knows her people are the weakest, the oldest and youngest, the outcasts, the people who cannot provide for themselves. So they turned to her, their only chance after the rest of the Dothraki abandoned them. And Daenerys is aware of this, and trying desperately to save her people and herself, but she doesn’t know how. Her dragons are only hatchlings, and all the enemies she made when Drogo died leave her no choice but to take her people through the Red Waste. As we’ll see later, her magical abilities failing her forces her to become a political and practical leader of her people, whether she is capable of that or no.
In later books, Daenerys begins to gather other followers, but in A Clash of Kings, the Dothraki are all she has. And they follow her because might makes right within a khalasar, and no one is mightier than the young girl who walked out of a fire with no burns and three dragons. Later books are much more invested in examining both the good - but especially the bad - that this kind of relationship can cause between a ruler and her people, but that part of Daenerys’ arc is already set up here in A Clash of Kings.
This dynamic does give us a glimpse into the altruistic part of Daenerys that is still there, and especially on display when Doreah dies in her arms:
Jhogo said they must leave her or bind her to her saddle, but Dany remembered a night on the Dothraki sea, when the Lysene girl had taught her secrets so that Drogo might love her more. She gave Doreah water from her own skin, cooled her brow with a damp cloth, and held her hand until she died, shivering. Only then would she permit the khalasar to press on.
Daenerys gives Doreah some of her own water, knowing that the girl was going to die anyway, just to ease her passing. She holds her hand as she dies, and refused to let Jhogo and the khalasar disrespect Doreah.
Daenerys is aware of the huge sacrifice her few followers made to be with her, and she’s willing to sacrifice tremendously to repay their loyalty.
The Dragons Are All The Difference
In my last meta, I talked a lot about how Daenerys is the truest possible version of what a Targaryen is, Fire & Blood writ large, and how much that has to do with the connection she shares to her dragons; and that theme is built upon even more in this book.
Now she has actually hatched her eggs, but quickly realizes that having dragons doesn’t help you feed your people:
Yet even as her dragons prospered, her khalasar withered and died.
The dragons eat many times their weight a day (and while that doesn’t seem like much since they’re so small, it’s important to remember that Dany’s people are starving to death) and don’t offer anything in return.
This is another case where the dragons function as a stand-in for Daenerys. While she gained tremendously from everything that happened at the end of A Game of Thrones, by becoming a khal and hatching dragons, the people who follow her lost everything. They didn’t even choose to stay with her; the environment she helped create was rejecting of their weakness and left them behind to die with her. And while they have their “freedom” now, it doesn’t mean much when Doreah dies in the Red Waste. Having dragons doesn’t make Daenerys capable of actually saving these people she’s led into the wilderness.
When Daenerys and her khalasar finally find the city they name Vaes Tolorro, at first Daenerys wants to make it their home:
In the coolness of her tent, Dany blackened horse-meat over a brazier and reflected on her choices. There was food and water here to sustain them, and enough grass for the horses to regain their strength. How pleasant it would be to wake every day in the same place, to linger among shady gardens, eat figs, and drink cool water, as much as she might desire.
And later, this happens:
"I've brought you a peach," Ser Jorah said, kneeling. It was so small she could almost hide it in her palm, and overripe too, but when she took the first bite, the flesh was so sweet she almost cried. She ate it slowly, savoring every mouthful, while Ser Jorah told her of the tree it had been plucked from, in a garden near the western wall.
The specific fruit Jorah gives her, a peach, makes this very important. In this same book, Renly tries to get Stannis to enjoy a peach in their last conversation, and Stannis will never stop thinking on what Renly meant by it; to us, it’s quite clear that the peach is the little pleasures in life, joy, happiness, pausing to love the things and people around you. The heartbreak of Stannis as a character is that he will never be able to understand the world in that way; the heartbreak of Daenerys as a character is that a part of her can sit and simply savor a peach, but something pulls her away from it; and, of course, that something is dragons:
She dreamed of Drogo and the first ride they had taken together on the night they were wed. In the dream it was not horses they rode, but dragons.
The next morn, she summoned her bloodriders. “Blood of my blood,” she told the three of them, “I have need of you. Each of you is to choose three horses, the hardiest and healthiest that remain to us. Load as much water and food as your mounts can bear, and ride forth for me.”
And while this choice is fairly reasonable at the time, since she doesn’t know what awaits her in most directions, she thinks later that she could go back to Vaes Tolorro:
Part of her would have liked nothing more than to lead her people back to Vaes Tolorro, and make the dead city bloom. No, that is defeat. I have something Viserys never had. I have the dragons. The dragons are all the difference.
The dragons always stop her from turning back, from being happy where she is. They are her reason to take the Seven Kingdoms, the motivation she has to restore her family to the glory Aegon the Conqueror raised it to.
A part of Daenerys wanting to turn back to Vaes Tolorro and start her kingdom there, is an interesting contrast to her thoughts on conquering Westeros:
Dany had no wish to reduce King’s Landing to a blackened ruin full of unquiet ghosts. She had supped enough on tears. I want to make my kingdom beautiful, to fill it with fat men and pretty maids and laughing children. I want my people to smile when they see me ride by, the way Viserys said they smiled for my father.
But before she could do that she must conquer.
She has all these wonderfully idealistic dreams for her kingdom, yet all of them are made meaningless with the line “But before she could do that she must conquer”; while she wants everyone in her kingdom to be happy, she’s going to have to kill their Kings and Lords and many of the people before she can achieve that goal. The fact that she has to reclaim the Seven Kingdoms by nature means she will force many to sup on tears. But Vaes Tolorro gives her an out; a ready-made city, a rich oasis in the desert, where she could be Queen and grow her people.
But that will always be too small for Daenerys Targaryen, seed of Kings and Conquerors. She will never be content with the small matters of Essos, not when the Red Keep and the throne that by right is hers is sat by the Usurper and his dogs. The connection she has to the Targaryens who took their dragons and conquered Westeros is always going to pull her away from the part of her that just wants simplicity.
Daenerys’ understanding of how dangerous her dragons are is also touched on when she is in Qarth:
And they must be trained as well, or they will lay my kingdom to waste.
She thinks a lot about how she wants to go back to Westeros, and how she wants to avoid laying waste to it. It’s very interesting to note just how aware she is of her dragons’ destructive nature this early in the story, because it suggests she is much more culpable in their actions than some people want to admit. A lot of characters in the story make decisions that end up being disastrous, but are too young or had no reasonable way of knowing how tremendous those decisions would turn out being – the two obvious examples being Sansa telling Cersei that Ned intends to leave King’s Landing, and Bran warging Hodor – and most people file Drogon’s murder of Hazzea as a similar accident for Daenerys. Yet she is already aware that without training they will completely devastate the lands of Westeros, and actively thinks she should try and train them to avoid that. So, once they are much bigger and flying around Meereen killing sheep, it seems like willful ignorance on her part not to do something about them. I think this is so important because the line between Daenerys and her dragons has always been thin, and the further the series progresses the more that line blurs, so Daenerys choosing to look passed or ignore how violent her dragons are is very interesting in the context of how she views herself.
Viserys Always Said. . .
One part of Daenerys’ story that isn’t talked about enough, is how devastating Westeros will be to her. In A Game of Thrones, she thinks to herself that all the doors will be red in the Seven Kingdoms. She knows that the house with the red door and lemon tree in Braavos is the last place where she felt at home, and ever since then she’s been running from one place to the next, a guest in the house of strangers trying to take advantage of her and her brother’s name. She watched her brother slowly lose his mind the more they were turned away, and had to suffer through his abuses. But when she marries Khal Drogo and meets Ser Jorah Mormont, all the things her brother said about Westeros are suddenly within her reach. Instead of thinking that a house in Braavos she can never return to is her home, she can tell herself that the Seven Kingdoms are her real home; they are the place where she’ll finally feel as if she belongs. She builds it up in her mind as this place where all the doors could be red, every house a home to her. And all the things Viserys said about how beautiful it is also stay with Dany:
She wondered whether Aegon’s Red Keep had a pool like this, and fragrant gardens full of lavender and mint. It must, surely. Viserys always said the Seven Kingdoms were more beautiful than any other place in the world.
And when thinking of Westeros, Daenerys specifically thinks that it is home. Previously in A Game of Thrones, Viserys misunderstands her when she says “home” because Daenerys had never viewed Westeros as her home. But now all of that has changed, and Westeros has become a promise to her. She never feels quite at home with the Dothraki, she certainly does not feel at home in Qarth, but waiting for her across the Narrow Sea is the most beautiful place on earth - and she is going to be the Queen.
But us readers have spent much more time in Westeros than Daenerys has, and we know that almost everything Viserys said wasn’t true. The Red Keep is a beautiful castle, but it has no pools or gardens that could compete with Xaro Xhoan Daxos’ manse. Even at Westeros’ height, it lags behind as far as arts and architecture and all the small beauties Daenerys is so enamored by in Essos. And Westeros is far from its best; while Daenerys sits in Xaro’s pool dreaming of gardens of lavender and mint, the War of the Five Kings is tearing Westeros apart. It was never going to live up to the place Viserys told Daenerys it would be, but the War of the Five Kings leaves it broken and fractured in a way Westeros had never seen before. It is not going to be the home Daenerys needs it to be.
The idea of Westeros being Dany’s house with the red door is something that follows her through the next two books, as well. In A Clash of Kings, Daenerys has firmly rejected any other future she could have to chase the Iron Throne, but she has yet to hit the emotional lows that A Storm of Swords and A Dance with Dragons bring her to. She has almost never felt at home her whole life, and the exclusion she feels from both the Dothraki and the Qartheen pushes her further into the promises of Westeros’ red doors, but she is not hopeless in Essos yet and still enjoys so much of its cities and cultures. The next two books will find her in Astapor, Yunkai, and Meereen, though, and her hatred of those cities will make her emotional dependence on Westeros grow.
A Horse Girl With A Curious Pet
A huge part of Daenerys arc is how out of place she is. A combination of being the daughter of a disgraced King from a place she’s never set foot, to being a little girl running from place to place never settling, to being sold as a child bride to the Dothraki, Daenerys has never actually had a people or a place where she feels she belongs. A lot of her more problematic characteristics come from the need she has to find a place where she feels at home.
Being a Khaleesi is the closest Daenerys has come to being somewhere she feels she belongs, but the last few chapters of A Game of Thrones saw that completely implode. While she still has a khalasar and her own blood riders, there’s a distance she has from the Dothraki that is heightened in A Clash of Kings. This book is an introduction to a lot of the issues people point to when saying Daenerys is a colonizer and white savior:
She glanced at her bloodriders, their dark almond-shaped eyes giving no hint of their thoughts. Is it only the plunder they see? she wondered. How savage we must seem to these Qartheen.
The Dothraki sacked cities and plundered kingdoms, they did not rule them.
Daenerys does not understand the Dothraki, and is still an outsider among them. When she enters Qarth and sees all the beauty and splendor of the city, she quickly favors their way over that of her khalasar. Daenerys’ thoughts on the Dothraki are far from simple, since she herself is the victim of their more negative views on people and women specifically, but she also refuses to see them in a different light. She doesn’t even consider the possibility that the Dothraki could settle in Westeros and adjust to a more permanent lifestyle; instead she tries to find a new army to take Westeros with.
It’s really hard to find the line on what is reasonable from Daenerys in this situation, and what is her being irrational. She was sold to Khal Drogo as a child bride and brutalized for weeks or months, and then saw her life fall apart when she demanded the Dothraki be more humane in their warfare, so certain misgivings she has are reasonable.
But Daenerys doesn’t acknowledge her own culpability, and how she herself is not that far removed from the “savagery” of the Dothraki. When she thinks on how the Dothraki sack and ruin cities, it is in the context of her using them to conquer the Seven Kingdoms. Even though she could take her dragons and khalasar and live a perfect and peaceful life in the Free Cities, Daenerys is choosing to take an army – which she views as savage – and conquer a continent.
And there is a certain dismissiveness she has when addressing their beliefs and customs:
Other searchers returned with tales of other fruit trees, hidden behind closed doors in secret gardens. Aggo showed her a courtyard overgrown with twisting vines and tiny green grapes, and Jhogo discovered a well where the water was pure and cold. Yet they found bones too, the skulls of the unburied dead, bleached and broken. "Ghosts," Irri muttered. "Terrible ghosts. We must not stay here, Khaleesi, this is their place."
"I fear no ghosts. Dragons are more powerful than ghosts." And figs are more important. "Go with Jhiqui and find me some clean sand for a bath, and trouble me no more with silly talk."
In the above exchange between Daenerys and Irri, she does have a point. If they decide not to stay in Vaes Tolorro, they could die of dehydration and exhaustion; Daenerys does not really have a choice, they must stay in the ghost city. But she has no patience for the religious beliefs of the Dothraki, and how important they are to the culture, referring to it as “silly talk”. As we see in later books, there is often a logic to Dothraki superstition and Daenerys would be better off if she took Irri and Jhiqui’s advice into consideration.
Speaking of how Daenerys overlooks how important some things are to the Dothraki, I think this passage is especially illuminating:
“We are the blood of your blood,” said Aggo, “sworn to live and die as you do. Let us walk with you in this dark place, to keep you safe from harm.”
This is right before Daenerys going into the House of the Undying, when she is telling her blood riders that she must go alone. One thing that I want to make clear, is that the blood riders are very different from any other type of group sworn to protect their King/Queen; the Knights of the Kingsguard, for example, are sworn to die in defense of their King, but are under no oath to die if their king does, and won’t be punished by death if they save themselves instead of their king. Dothraki blood riders, on the other hand, are sworn to die after they avenge their Khal; so, if Daenerys dies, she has sworn her blood riders to committing suicide. The interesting thing is, Daenerys never really thinks much about that; I think, in her mind, blood riders were something that khals had and so she should have them too, never really thinking further on what she was swearing these men to do. Daenerys builds her brand on being very anti-slavery, and the blood riders live much better lives than chattel slaves, but there is something interesting to the idea that Daenerys has a group of men essentially chained to her – because their lives depend on hers, and as the quote above shows, they actively seek out to be with her when things are most dangerous; not because they want to protect her, but because they are risking their own lives when they let her leave. Of course, she didn’t force them into being her blood riders so they chose this, but Daenerys never thinks on what her choices mean for their lives when she does something risky.
Daenerys’ thoughts on the savagery of the Dothraki leads her to distance herself from the Dothraki when she arrives in Qarth, and she begins acting like the Qartheen to try and win their favor. She dresses in their traditional clothing, lives in Xaro’s palace, does not comment (or think to herself) on the city’s slaves, and tries to use their political systems to buy an army and fleet to sail to Westeros. This leads to some conflict with Jorah, who is instantly distrustful of Pyat Pree and Xaro Xhoan Daxos. Their arguments over the Qartheen are so insightful as far as both of their characters individually, and the relationship they have.
The things Jorah tells Daenerys about Qarth are not inherently wrong, and he actually gives her good advice. From his perspective, Daenerys has told him she thinks Xaro and Pyat Pree will help her win her crown, but he knows by instinct these men are scheming, so he tries to remind her of the reality of conquering Westeros. But the problem is the way he delivers the advice, and how he assumes Daenerys is much more naïve and stupid than she is:
Sometimes he thinks of me as a child he must protect, and sometimes as a woman he would like to bed, but does he ever truly see me as his queen?
Daenerys is aware of how he views and sexualizes her, but she also notices the way he sometimes treats her as if she’s a child. The way Jorah talks to her makes Daenerys both sad and upset; even her closest advisor doesn’t treat her like a Queen.
But Dany isn’t entirely blameless in why her advisors don’t fully trust her to act as Queen. It becomes much clearer in the Plaza of Punishment, when she doesn’t reveal her plan to Barristan or Jorah for really no particular reason, but she has a problem of communicating with her advisors. Since we are in Dany’s head, we understand that she too is nervous and distrustful of Xaro and Pyat Pree, and is trying to use them just as much as they want to use her. But all she tells Jorah is that she thinks they will help her win her crown, when she is actively taking measures to protect herself from Xaro and Pyat Pree. While she is still outsmarted a bit by the rich merchants of Qarth, Daenerys sees through a huge amount of their lies and flattery. Knowing that Pyat Pree would only show her the parts of Qarth that fit his narrative, Daenerys picked groups of her men to search every street of the city, both day and night. She also keeps guards with her dragons all day and all night, in case someone were to try and steal them.
It says a lot about him that Jorah naturally assumes the least of her, but it becomes a growing problem for Daenerys that she is unwilling to explain her actions to anyone. The reason for that, of course, is that she is Daenerys Targaryen, blood of the dragon, and her word should be law. She has an expectation for how people should treat her as a Targaryen Queen, and I’ll get into that more below, but it is a huge factor in how she interacts with those under her when she disagrees with them. She rarely understands why people don’t jump to follow her.
And as Daenerys grows further from Ser Jorah and the Dothraki, she is trying to win over the people of Qarth. As I said above, she is trying to use them to get to Westeros, so she never invests in them the way she did the Dothraki, but in order to win their favor she has to follow their customs and traditions. And to do that, she takes advantage of Xaro’s own ambition, by living in his palace and using his ideas to make enough money to buy the Thirteen and Pureborn into her favor.
I really want to emphasize how well Daenerys is treated in Qarth, even though they refuse to help her get to Westeros. I titled this “The Beggar Queen”, because Daenerys thinking of herself as one is extremely telling as to her expectations of people around her. Here is how Daenerys lives in Qarth:
Trader captains brought lace from Myr, chests of saffron from Yi Ti, amber and dragonglass out of Asshai. Merchants offered bags of coin, silversmiths rings and chains. Pipers piped for her, tumblers tumbled, and jugglers juggled, while dyers draped her in colors she had never known existed. A pair of Johos Nhai presented her with one of their striped zorses, black and white and fierce. A widow brought the dried corpse of her husband, covered with a crust of silvered leaves; such remnants were believed to have great power, especially if the deceased had been a sorcerer, as this one had. And the Tourmaline Brotherhood pressed on her a crown wrought in the shape of a three-headed dragon; the coils were yellow gold, the wings silver, the headed carved from jade, ivory, and onyx.
Yet this is how she thinks on all of her gifts:
I have become the most splendid beggar in the world, but a beggar all the same.
The people of Qarth are willing to give Daenerys everything the entire world has to offer, except the Iron Throne. And even though Daenerys has received plenty from Qarth, she leaves feeling used:
They never saw me for a queen, she thought bitterly. I was only an afternoon’s amusement, a horse girl with a curious pet.
I think this highlights a certain attitude of entitlement Daenerys has. If you look from the perspective of the Qartheen, they have no incentive to help her reclaim Westeros. She wants to sail immediately, before her dragons could help her with the conquest, and she wants to take their ships and their soldiers to do it. She can’t offer them any improved position, because they are wealthy beyond comprehension, and she can’t offer any improvement in their businesses because they already trade freely with Westeros. The only thing she is offering is the name Daenerys Targaryen, which is meaningless to the Essosi who never loved the Valyrians, and never had any investment in who sat the Iron Throne. Yet Daenerys, even though she has almost nothing to offer, refuses to beg:
“Tell me the words of the Pureborn,” prompted Xaro Xhoan Daxos. “Tell me what they said to sadden the queen of my heart.”
“They said no.” The wine tasted of pomegranates and hot summer days. “They said it with great courtesy, to be sure, but under all the lovely words, it was still no.”
“Did you flatter them?”
“Shamelessly.”
“Did you weep?”
“The blood of the dragon does not weep,” she said testily.
The only gift Daenerys keeps of all the riches she received from men looking to see her dragons, is the crown made to look like a three headed dragon:
“Viserys sold my mother’s crown, and men called him a beggar. I shall keep this crown, and men will call me a queen.” And so she did, though the weight of it made her neck ache.
It’s very symbolic that the crown makes her neck hurt, but it’s also very interesting how she draws parallels between herself and Viserys. Being placed in a position where she is trying to buy and negotiate her way to the Iron Throne, she starts to understand the fevered madness that drove her brother:
She hated it, as her brother must have. All those years of running from city to city one step ahead of the Usurper’s knives, pleading for help from archons and princes and magisters, buying our food with flattery. He must have known how they mocked him. Small wonder he turned so angry and bitter. In the end it had driven him mad. It will do the same to me if I let it.
The idea of being passed over, of being laughed at, is enough to make Daenerys have to pause and check herself. She understands how begging to lesser men, when she is the blood of the dragon, could break her brother.
The rejection from the Qartheen is another step in the long walk Daenerys is taking to isolation and paranoia. A Dance with Dragons is the arc that most focuses on how paranoid and alone Daenerys is becoming, but even back in A Clash of Kings, she is starting to mistrust everyone around her; and for good reason. Daenerys is young and incredibly beautiful, and also has the only three dragons in the entire world. Once she hatches them, it becomes incredibly hard for her to distinguish who follows her or wants to have a relationship with her because of her, or if they simply want her dragons. Xaro Xhoan Daxos tries to trick Daenerys into marrying him, because Qartheen custom would allow him to claim one of her dragons. The warlocks also are trying to use Daenerys for her dragons, as they try and lure her to the House of the Undying to feed off the magical energy she has.
Quaithe is introduced in this book, and from the start she tries to warn and guide Daenerys against people who want her only for her dragons:
From her Dany received only a warning. "Beware," the woman in the red lacquer mask said.
"Of whom?"
"Of all. They shall come day and night to see the wonder that has been born again into the world, and when they see they shall lust. For dragons are fire made flesh, and fire is power."
All of the elements in Daenerys life start to add up to her feeling alone and cornered; she doesn’t trust the Dothraki to take Westeros, the Qartheen have refused to help her sail the Narrow Sea, she is fighting with her closest companion Jorah, and the mysterious maegi Quaithe is warning her to trust no one. All of this leads to Daenerys going to the House of the Undying for answers, but I’ll get into that more below.
What is very interesting about Daenerys, though, is that after the House of the Undying goes so poorly, she throws herself back into the Dothraki culture. As a show of defiance to the Qartheen who take all of their gifts and kindnesses back after she burns the Warlocks, she searches the docks while clad in the garb of the Dothraki. The lesson she learns from Qarth is that she hates compromise. She tried fitting in with them, to play their games and follow their rules, and they still refused to take her seriously. They accepted her gifts, listened to her case, and politely but unequivocally said no. So, what was the point? Why did Daenerys give up the Dothraki, why did she bother bribing lesser men?
In the following books, she will try exceptionally hard to make compromises to rule cities, but she hates it. Even though she wants to do these things for her people, each and every time it takes a part of her, and she starts to lose sight of why she even wants to help the people she hates and rule a city that is determined to deny her. Compromise does not sit well with Daenerys.
Daughter of Three
The main points of Daenerys’ chapters in this book are foreshadowing and prophecy. I’ve always found A Clash of Kings to be such a great book on its own, but an absolutely amazing second act to A Game of Thrones, because the first book sets up in the very first chapter the high fantasy conflict with the Others, and ends on the incredibly high fantasy aspect of Daenerys walking out of a burning pyre with three dragons; but in between, the story dives deep into the political and personal stories of our protagonists. And while people still argue which element this story is “really about”, I think Clash does a great job in establishing that the answer is both. The War of the Five Kings pulls the political plotlines into harsh focus, with character like Catelyn, Tyrion, and Davos consistently acting and reacting to the respective Kings, and characters like Sansa and Arya who focus on the personal fallout of war; but A Clash of Kings also sends Daenerys and Bran on their magical journeys, and permanently sets them on very high fantasy paths. In the same book that sees the political foregrounded, two of our main characters leap forward in their magical progression. Daenerys in particular highlights the way the political and magical intertwine, and how the two can work together.
The climax of Daenerys’ arc in this book is extremely magical. The rejection of Xaro and the Pureborn leaves her feeling like the answers offered by the Warlocks is her only choice, so she goes to the House of the Undying. Once she’s inside, she sees a whirlwind of visions that give readers a glimpse into the past and the future, as it relates to Daenerys and the rest of our characters. I’m going to try and break all of them down, and what I think they mean and why the Undying choose to show them to her.
There’s two different sets of visions Daenerys sees when she is in the House of the Undying; the first visions she sees as she is trying to find the Undying, and is tempted to look into doors. This is how Pyat Pree describes them:
“Within, you will see many things that disturb you. Visions of loveliness and visions of horror, wonders and terrors. Sights and sounds of days gone by and days to come and days that never were. Dwellers and servitors may speak to you as you go. Answer or ignore them as you choose, but enter no room until you reach the audience chamber.”
The visions Daenerys sees are of the Five Kings tearing Westeros apart, the Red Wedding, Ser Willem Darry in the house with the red door, the Mad King telling his pyromancers to burn King’s Landing, and Rhaegar talking to Elia about the Prince that was Promised. These visions are separate from the prophecies she receives from the Undying, and I don’t think we’re supposed to connect them to Daenerys or to each other. Some of them go together, but some of them simply don’t; I think GRRM intentionally separated them to show these aren’t necessarily about Daenerys, or even connected in any way. I do think the visions connect to Daenerys in thematic ways, though.
The first two she sees, of small men who represent Kings tearing the woman meant to be Westeros apart, and of a dead King with the head of a wolf at a feast, clearly go together. The first she sees is what the Five Kings do to Westeros, and the second is the climax of the war and its technical end, when Robb Stark is killed at the Red Wedding. These two visions don’t connect to Daenerys as much as they are a broad foreshadowing of GRRM’s world and his books to come; but I think it’s interesting that the glimpses Daenerys sees of Westeros are horrific, terrible things. I’ve always found the use of the phrase “mute appeal” to describe how Robb looks at Daenerys to be very interesting; GRRM only uses it twice more in the series, once to describe Ned’s pleading gaze, and then he describes Jinglebell as looking at Catelyn with mute appeal before she kills him. It’s as if Robb is begging Daenerys not to do something.
As Daenerys runs from the horrors of the Red Wedding, she sees her room from the house with the red door:
“Little princess, there you are,” he said in his gruff kind voice. “Come,” he said, “come to me, my lady, you’re home now, you’re safe now.”
Daenerys remembers that Willem Darry is dead right before she enters the room, which Pyat Pree told her she absolutely must not do. But that vision is the one thing that tempts her, brings her right to the threshold. In this case, turning around was the right choice; but I think this vision has broader imagery. Daenerys, so many times, comes so close to turning around and being the “Little Princess” again, an innocent child who didn’t want to conquer a place she’d never been. But she always turns around. She’s tempted the most in A Dance with Dragons, when she thinks of having a house with Daario free of being a Queen, but she can never commit to that kind of life. It’s not her anymore; she can’t go back.
Then she sees her father in the Throne Room, getting ready to burn King’s Landing. On a meta level, this vision exists mostly to set up Catelyn’s last chapter with Jaime, as well as Jaime’s A Storm of Swords arc; but it is also the vision most connected to Daenerys. For the first time, she’s seeing the real version of her father, the truth of the man she wants to remind people in Westeros; and she’s seeing her future, too. Daenerys was right when she thinks the people of King’s Landing will greet her like they did her father, because she’s going to burn the city.
Her last vision before reaching the Undying is of Rhaegar talking to Elia Martell, and naming his son Aegon. This is the only vision that Daenerys understands; she has no idea what the first two are, and doesn’t connect the vision of the Mad King to her father, but she does know Rhaegar. This is the first time she hears the phrase “the dragon has three heads”, which will chase her through Storm and Dance. Rhaegar also says that his son is The Prince that was Promised, and that “his is the song of ice and fire”. A Clash of Kings is the first book that really starts to introduce the overarching prophecies of the series, and it’s interesting to see The Prince that was Promised introduced in this context; Rhaegar knows something that we don’t, something about his son.
When Daenerys finally finds the Undying, she sees a second set of visions, this set all about her. First, she gets her prophecies of three:
. . . three fires must you light. . . one for life and one for death and one to love. . . Her own heart was beating in unison to the one that floated before her, blue and corrupt. . . three mounts must you ride. . . one to bed and one to dread and one to love. . . The voices were growing louder, she realized, and it seemed her heart was slowing, and even her breath. . .  three treasons will you know. . . once for blood and once for gold and once for love. . .
It’s very interesting that these prophecies end on the note of a treason for love. Someone is going to betray Daenerys for someone they love, and that’s the end; I don’t have a firm grasp on the other treasons, fires, or mounts, but this one, to me, has to be Jon.
Next, Daenerys gets her mother of dragons prophecies; this is the first:
Viserys screamed as the molten gold ran down his cheeks and filled his mouth. A tall lord with copper skin and silver-gold hair stood beneath the banner of a fiery stallion, a burning city behind him. Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman’s name. . . mother of dragons, daughter of death. . .
The three things connecting Rhaegar, Rhaego, and Viserys seems to be that all three were the Heir to the Iron Throne when they died. Their three deaths help to push Daenerys into taking the Iron Throne. Daenerys having the title daughter of death is extremely fitting with her previous imagery; everything about her life has come from death. Rhaegar dying, the Mad King dying, her father’s fleet being destroyed on the night she was born, Viserys being crowned in molten gold, Drogo and Rhaego’s deaths. She is the product of tragedy.
These are the next visions she sees:
Glowing like sunset, a red sword was raised in the hand of a blue-eyed king who cast no shadow. A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd. From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire. . . mother of dragons, slayer of lies. . .
The first two are clearly Stannis and Young Griff/Aegon VI, and seem pretty straightforward; she slays the lie that Stannis is Azor Ahai, and that Young Griff is Aegon VI. The last one is a lot less clear. I really can’t say what this is. I know some people think the Stone Beast is Jon Connington with Greyscale, but to me that seems meaningless in light of the second lie. Why would both Young Griff and Jon Connington need separate lies? Jon Connington isn’t lying about anything. The imagery of a great stone beast is very prominent in all the books; from the prophecy of Azor Ahai waking dragons out of stone, to Sansa being described as a winged beast escaping the Red Keep, to Davos’ description of Dragonstone. I just can’t quite pin down what GRRM is foreshadowing.
The last prophecy she receives is this:
Her sliver was trotting through the grass, to a darkling stream beneath a sea of stars. A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly. A blue flower grew from a chink a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. . . mother of dragons, bride of fire. . .
All of these are pretty clear; Drogo was her first fire, then Euron, and finally Jon. The description of Jon “filling the air with sweetness” is very ominous, and just makes me even more confident he is the treason for love. I know there are some great metas that discuss sweetness in Daenerys’ arc, I just can’t think of any right now. But the idea of sweetness being bad, and foreshadowing a treason from Jon, is really highlighted by Daenerys hearing this prophecy in Qarth of all places. Time and again, the city’s exterior of sweet smells and beautiful buildings is used to hide the treachery underneath.
After the prophecies, Daenerys sees a whirlwind of past and future events:
Shadows whirled and danced inside a tent, boneless and terrible. A little girl ran barefoot toward a big house with a red door. Mirri Maz Duur shrieked in the flames, a dragon bursting from her brow. Behind a silver horse the bloody corpse of a naked man bounced and dragged. A white lion ran through grass taller than a man. Beneath the Mother of Mountains, a line of naked crones crept from a great lake and knelt shivering before her, their grey heads bowed. Ten thousand slaves lifted bloodstained hands as she raced by on her silver, riding like the wind. “Mother!” they cried. “Mother, mother!” They were reaching for her, touching her, tugging at her cloak, the hem of her skirt, her foot, her leg, her breast. They wanted her, needed her, the fire, the life, and Dany gasped and opened her arms to give herself to them. . .
The vision of her “Myhsa” moment leads into the realities of the Undying:
The Undying were all around her, blue and cold, whispering as they reached for her, pulling, stroking, tugging at her clothes, touching her with their dry cold hands, twining their fingers through her hair. All the strength had left her limbs.
The wording is intentionally similar, because we’re supposed to connect the Undying feeding off Daenerys, and the reaction she has to “her people”. In A Dance with Dragons, she turns Quentyn Martell and the swords of Dorne away because she’s not going to leave Meereen, maybe ever. Daenerys loves being a savior to the people of Essos, the feeling she gets when they scream “mother!”, the feeling that what she’s doing is right and good. But apart from those incredible highs, when Daenerys has to live in the choices she made to lead the Essosi, she just hates it. In A Storm of Swords, she does give her people fire and life, opening her arms up to them, but it’s not sustainable. Her fire burns out, and she’s left feeling empty and alone and more than anything angry at the people who made her choose to stay.
The Dragons Are Returned
After Pyat Pree and the Warlocks betray Daenerys, she has finally had enough of Qarth; the warlocks hate her for burning down the House of the Undying, Xaro hates her because she turns down his proposals, and the people hate her for all she’s done in Qarth. And if they all hate her, Daenerys is done playing their games.
The next time she goes out, she does so in the traditional garb and sandals of the Dothraki, with a bell in her hair to signify victory against the Warlocks. When Illyrio Mopatis comes through with Arstan Whitebeard and Strong Belwas, Daenerys commands them to name her ships Vhagar, Meraxes, and Balerion; the world will look upon her ships and know that the dragons are returned. Where she wavered from her the Dothraki, by the end of A Clash of Kings, Daenerys is ready to double down on the “savagery” of them. She’s tired of playing nice, of diplomatically talking and negotiating. This book perfectly sets Daenerys up for the path she decides to take in A Storm of Swords. She’s going to get the army she needs, no matter what.
Even if it means Fire & Blood.

GOT and some of the sexism claims. I'd say pretty much everyone has been equally screwed over in some way.
I just can't get on board with this sexist rubbish people are spilling . "Women just don't get happy endings on this show, women can't be successful, it's all about the men, they get everything'.
Erm... Really? Most of the male protagonists and antagonists being main or secondary characters aren't exactly at a spar right now .
Robert Baratheon - killed by a pig. Pretty useless as a king but not the worst person on the show.
Ned Stark- executed by a vicious little psycho. The most honorable man the show had or will have.
Jory- Stabbed through the eye, a loyal man.
Joffrey - poisened (by a powerful woman). Vicious little psycho incest kid. His crimes to numerable to go into.
Tommon - committed sucide, a sweet heart not at all suited for the role of King.
Renly - murdered by a shadow with his brothers face (by a powerful woman). Was loved by those that followed him.
Stannis - executed by Brienne ( a powerful woman). Not a great dad but before he went all fire happy was actually very honorable if not boring.
Robb Stark - betrayed and stabbed at a wedding. An honorable man who made a mistake, wanted his family back and paid the price.
Rickon Stark - shot with an arrow. Couldn't zig zag.
Ramsey - eaten by dogs on the orders of Sansa (a powerful woman). A sadist who got his due.
Roose Bolton - killed by his son, another ass who got his due.
Theon Greyjoy - flayed, had his dick cut off and then died heroically defending Bran. So much to be said about him.
Loras Tyrell - blown up (by a powerful woman). A honorable basically out and proud man who loved his king, still stood by the viscous little psycho Joffrey because that's what he had to do. A family man.
Jaime - flattened by rocks (?) So much to be said.
Ser Jorah - died fighting white walkers. Had his redemption.
Ser Barristan Selmy - killed by the Sons of the Harpy
Khal Drogo - died from a cut/magic/smothered by his Mrs (by two powerful women ) One of the most powerful characters died pretty early on
Viserys - killed by boiling gold on his head. Not going to she's a tear
Ollie - hanged as a traitor (because he Stabbed Jon and law is the law)
Ser Allister Thorne - hanged as a traitor
Edd - killed by White Walkers
Mance - burned at the stake and an arrow in the heart because he refused to bed the knee and lead the wildlings to fight Stannis war.
Bran Stark - basically already dead
Euron - killed by Jaime
High Sparrow - blown up (by a powerful woman)
Tywin- killed by an arrow on the loo. One of the most powerful and smart characters on the show. Would have made a good king if a harsh one.
Varys - burned alive (by a powerful woman). Such a powerful man behind the shadows, lived for the people
Qyburn- head smashed in
The Hound - dead by falling and fire. Was redeemed
Hodor - a sweet heart used by and messed up by Bran. F**k you Bran!!
Oberyn Martell - a great character who got cocky and had his head smashed in.
Little Finger - throat cut by Arya (a powerful woman). Totally asked for it but still one of the most powerful men .
Shall I go on?
Male protagonists left?
Jon- knows nothing. Theon had more balls than he does now. Has given up everything to be a lap dog to Dany. Actually died! But came back.
Bran- useless, boring. Honestly don't care what happens to him.
Tyrion- was one of the smartest characters on the snow. Has been reduced to an idiot who drops his friends in it and watches them burn. Not the best at making plans.
Gendry - a sweet heart who deserves a happy ending.
Ser Davos- a sweet heart who deserves a happy ending and has more sense than most of the men left put together.
Grey Worm- used to admire how strong he was given his beginnings, is now dead to me.
Sam - a sweet heart who is way smarter than he is given credit for. Deserves a happy ending. Always true to himself, a total coward but still fought when he had to.
Podrick - a loyal sweet heart who deserves a happy ending.
Can't even think of anyone else right now.
The women?
Cateyln Stark - throat slit. An ass to Jon Snow but a strong Matriarch who loved her children and wanted them back desperately.
Shae - straggled by Tyrion.
Ros - shot with arrows
Osha- a woman was dedicated to keeping Bran and Rickon alive. Killed by Bolton men.
Lysa Arryn - pushed through the moon door. Crazy Lady.
Lady Olenna - suicide, still had the last laugh. One of the most powerful matriarchs of the show. The whole reason Joffrey is dead and wasn't afraid to tell the men to shove it.
Sand Snakes and their mother - all dead one way or another. Not note worthy at all.
Margery Tyrell - Blown up, but a good and caring queen who knew how to play the game and cared for her family.
Missandei - throat cut, defiant to the end.
Melisandre - crumbled and was blown away but not before helping at the Battle for Winterfell.
Cersei - A Queen who stood up to everyone and survived until now, showed she wasn't to be messed with. Is responsible for a lot of death male and female, loved her children. Died under rubble (?)
Lady Lyanna Mormont - one of the best characters, bad ass, had more sense and honour than half the men on the show. Fought a battle against the dead and went out like a boss taking a giant with her!
Women left?
Dany - A Queen, a woman abused, raped and sold, etc. Still standing, a powerful if not losing the plot woman. Still rose up and is much stronger than she started out as.
Sansa - The Lady of Winterfell a woman who was abused, raped etc. Rising up to take back her home, much stronger for it. She learned to play the game or thrones. Took lessons from all her captors and abusers and isn't to be messed with now.
Arya - a child who lost everything, saw to much, became a child killer and faceless assassin. Made it home, killed the Night King, survived Kings Landing.
Brienne - a strong woman loved two men and was heart broken but both. A woman in a mans world refusing to conform. Spends all the time trying to find Sansa and Arya so she can keep a vow to Cat Stark. Managed to capture Jaime Lannister, fought a bear! Broke through Jaime's shell, defeated the Hound. Survived the White Walkers. Finally knighted.
Gilly- an adorable sweet heart who deserves a happy ending. Actually found about Jon but Sam wasn't listening.
Yara - a strong woman in a man's world, had the respect of her men, gave a massive 🖕 to the rules and wanted to be Queen. Open about the sexuality.
Meera Reed - kept Bran Stark alive beyond the wall for years. Basically Bran gave her the 🖕 even after she lost her brother for him.
Honestly I'd say the strong female protagonists are the ones left standing and the ones who have had the most growth, good or bad it's still growth. Even the ones who are gone had growth. The majority of male characters never really changed all that much.
The ones who changed the most are Jon (eventually), Jaime, Dany, Sansa, Arya and Bran. Maybe there are more?
It will most likely end with Jon on the throne, given what happened Dany won't be welcome on it now. But that doesn't mean the show is sexist. The characters plot archs have been asssinated yes but even if Dany has fallen, you still have Arya, Sansa, Brienne God even Gilly! How many stong male characters left? About the same and almost all had their arcs assassinated, Jon is useless, I wouldn't want to be left alone with Grey Worm now, Tyrion seems to have lost all sense.

Qarth was a beautiful city. Not like any you have seen yet. The people were welcoming espically the man that had vouched for you three and your people. He had let you stay in his house and he gave you a beautiful orange-gold dress and he gifted Aegon something to wear too.
“You like it?” You ask Aegon as he finished getting dressed. He looks down at his clothing and just tilts his head to the side.
“I feel much more comfortable the Dothraki clothing or what I would wear in Dorne.” You laugh at his comment.
“Maybe you should write to uncle oberyn to send you some clothing from Dorne.” You suggest.
“I will but for now I’ll wear this it would be rude not to.” He says to you and you him in agreement as you go by him.
“Help me with this.” You say as your back faces him so he could help you with your dress.
“Being here brings us a step closer to getting the throne.” Aegon said as he finished tying the dress.
“Yes I know.... we really haven’t been able to talk since the Dragons were born but do you think we can trust Daenerys? Do you really think she wants all three of us too rule together?” You ask Aegon and as you turn to face him.
“It’s been done before hasn’t it? We can do it now.” He says and it gets you thinking. It’s true your ancestors Aegon the conquerer, Visenya and Rhaenys had all ruled together but they were married to one another. Does it mean that Aegon would have to marry Daenerys as well? But you didn’t ask Aegon what you had thought. But what you didn’t know was that he was also thinking the same thing.
You had left Aegons quarters and went to Daenerys who had invited you to her room where her doreah and Irri were. When you arrived to her room she was feeding her dragons. She turned her head to look at you and then a wide smile appeared on her face.
“That dress looks beautiful on you.” She complimented you. You look down at your dress and run your hands down your dress. You look up at her and smile.
“Thank you.” You respond back and notice that she has yet to put on the dress that was also given to her.
“Come join us we’re just feeding the dragons.” She says waving you over to where she was sitting with the dragons in front of her.
You get sad as you seem them there. All three of her dragons had lived and yours died because she was born weak. You barely had time to spend with your little dragon but you still loved her for that little time.
“Help me feed them, Viserion already ate his food but Rheagal hasn’t. And I’ve been trying to feed him for a little while, let’s see if he’ll listen to you.” She says as she hands you and a piece of meat. You grab it gently and place it in front of the green dragon. You’ve seen both Aegon and her feed their dragons and you knew what you needed to say to them.
“Dracarys.” You say and the dragon tilts his head the side and then looks down at the food in front of him. He opens his mouth and breaths out a small flame of fire on the food. The flame is small but still hot. It didn’t burn you but you could still it’s warmth in your arms when he breathed it out.
A smile erupted on your both yours and Daenerys faces as you both saw him eat.
“He likes you.” Daenerys told you as she clasped her hands together excited that her dragon had ate. You put your hand out for Rheagal to go on. He looked at your hand and then went on it. You pet him gently on top of his head before putting him back in his little cage.
-
(Aegon)
His dream had come true. It was still unbelievble to him that this had happened, that his dream had came true and that he had a dragon of his own. But what he mostly couldn’t wrap his head around was that dream that came true. He didn’t know why it had happened or why just him. He also didn’t know if it had happened to any other Targaryen. He wanted to know more but he didn’t know who to ask. He also didn’t know if their was going to be an answer to this.
“Here you go Elirion. Dracarys.” He said to his dragon. The dragon then burnt the meat and ate it. Aegon had seen that his dragon listened more then Daenerys dragons did. Then again they were still babies.
“He’ll feed himself from now on.” Aegon told Ser Jorah who was sitting in chair in his quarters.
“Should we trust these people Ser Jorah?” He asked curiously. Ser Jorah followed Aegon with his eyes as he sat down beside him.
“One of them bled for you and let you in to the city.... I wouldn’t say to distrust them completely but you also have to keep an eye on them.” Ser Jorah told Aegon. Aegon nodded his head and then a thought came to mind. Something he’s been thinking about ever since the funeral but has never had the chance to say. He cleared his throat and his body completely or face Ser Jorah.
“Should I Trust Daenerys?” Aegon asked. Ser Jorah shifted in his seat and rubbed his chin. “I mean her wanting y/n and me to rule along with her. Because before she wanted her and Drogo to take over. And now she wants us together to take the throne.... you spend a lot of time with her, so should I trust her?” He asked. Ser Jorah stayed quiet for a moment only making Aegon more curious and more anxious.
“Yes you should trust her intentions. She doesn’t wish to trick you or y/n. She does truthfully want for you all to rule together she wants to take the iron throne back with you and y/n.” Ser Jorah told Aegon. Aegon now had a more important question. A question that also came with this situation.
“I need your advice for something else as well..... if we’re going to rule the three of us then that does mean that we can’t all marry. Their would be to many rulers, it wouldn’t work.” Aegon took a pause trying to find a way to say what he really needed to say. He took a deep breath and shut his eyes for a brief moment as he thought for a moment before taking another deep breath. “If we want to make this work then I’m going to need to marry Daenerys and Y/n ...... just like Aegon the conquerer did with his sisters.” Aegon said and then waited for Jorah to say something to him. He seemed to be in deep thought.
“We’re going to need discuss this with Daenerys and your sister together.” Ser Jorah said getting up from his chair. “We should go out now my King don’t want to keep he host waiting.” Ser Jorah said to Aegon. The answer suprised him a little bit really expecting for him to answer that way but then again he didn’t know what to expect.
-
(Y/N)
It felt I little odd being a feast that was calm and not as loud as the Dothraki. The dothraki were wild at feasts nothing like here. You were talking to a guest while Aegon talked to someone else. The talk wasn’t that interesting but you tried your best to pay as much as attention as you could. You caught Aegon staring your way a couple of times and when you would, you would just smile his way. And of course he would return it. You had caught once again looking your way he smiled but then it turned into a frown. It seemed like he wasn’t looking your way anymore but instead behind you. You turned your head to where he seemed to be looking at and you then saw it.
Aegon then made his way towards the situation that was happening behind you. It was the Dothraki who seemed to be looking at a statue and arguing about it. It had seemed to that Daenerys had also seen what was happening as well as just like you she walked behind Aegon and to where the Dothraki men were arguing.
“What are they doing?” Aegon asked Ser Jorah who was also here.
“Malakko says the statue his to heavy to carry, Kavharo says that malakko is an idiot they can pry out gems the rest is pure gold. Very soft we can chop of as much as we can carry.”Ser Jorah explained. Aegon sighed and looked over at Kavharo.
“Or melt it. Very simple.” Kavharo explained to Aegon.
“We are his guests. You can’t pry it or chop it or melt it.” Aegon told him.
“Of course not, Khal. We will wait until we leave.” Kavharo said making you smile a little at his presitance.
“Not even when we leave.” Daenerys then said.
“Why not?” Kavharo asked.
“Because our host saved us from the red waste and you want to steal from him? I will let hear no more.” Aegon said to them both. It seemed that they both understood. They both nodded and then excused themselves.
“My brother used to say that the only thing the Dothraki knew how to do is steal things better than a boat.” Daenerys said as you all then walked together.
“It’s not the only thing they’re quite good at killing the better man.” Ser Jorah said and before anyone of you could answer a strange man called out to the three of you. He was tall and skinny and he had blue lips and it did not seem to be paint. He did some form of trick that was hard not to be impressed by. He then went on and invited the three of you to the house of undying. It was quite weird and he was a weird man.
-
“So what are we going to do?” You ask Ser Jorah, Daenerys and Aegon who were all in one room discussing about what had happened that day.
“Xaro Xhoan Doxas asked if either one of us wants to marry.” Daenerys said to the group as she came to stand near you. Ser Jorah put his hand on his chin and you didn’t miss the look he gave Aegon.
“Maybe Aegon can marry the man after he’s the one who hasn’t married yet.” You say as a joke to Aegon. Aegon glances over at you and gives you a serious look. Daenerys smiled but she hid not wanting to get in trouble and meaning to be serious.
“Neither of you can marry the man because both of you will marry me.”

Analyse of Daenerys’ chapter in “A Clash of Kings”
P. 388: “The Dothraki sacked cities and plundered kingdoms, they did not rule them. Dany had no wish to reduce King’s Landing to a blackened ruin full of unquiet ghoss. She had supped enough on tears. I want to make my kingdom beautiful, to fill it with fat men and pretty maids and laughing children. I want my people to smile when they see me ride by, the way Viserys said they smiled for my father. But before she could do that she must conquer. → Forshadowing. (So take that Dumb & Dumber)
P. 527: “To go north (Jon?), you must journey south (dragonstone?). To reach the west (Westeros?), you must go east (Essos?). To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow (Asshai?=truth).” → ?
P. 529: “Sellswords have their uses,” Ser Jorah admitted, “but you will not win your father’s throne with sweepings from the Free Cities. Nothing knits a broken realm together so quick as an invading army on its soil.” (…) “You are a stranger who means to land on their shores with an army of outlanders who cannot even speak the Common Tongue. The lords of Westeros do no know you, and have every reason to fear and mistrust you. You must win them over before you sail. A few at least. → Foreshadowing?
The house of the Undying: P. 630: “By no means,” Pyat Pree said. “Leaving and coming, it is the same. Always up. Always the door to your right. Other doors may open to you. Within, you will see many things that disturb you. Visions of loveliness and visions of horror, wonders and terrors. Sights and sounds of days gone by and days to come and days that never were. Dwellers and servitors may speak to you as you go. Answer or ignore them as you choose, but enter no room until you reach the audience chamber.” (…) Shade of the evening, the wine of warlocks. “Take and drink,” urged Pyat Pree. “One draught will serve only to unstop your ears and dissolve the caul from off your eyes, so that you may hear and see the truths that will be laid before you.”
P. 631: “Not all the doors were closed. I will not look, Dany told herself, but the temptation was too strong. 1) In one room, a beautiful woman sprawled naked on the floor while four little men crawled over her. They had rattish pointed faces and tiny pink hands, like the servitor who had brought her the glass of shade. One was pumping between her thighs. Another savaged her breasts, worrying at the nipple with his wet red mouth, tearing and chewing. → Westeros against four kings (Balon Greyjoy, Robb Stark, Joffrey and Stannis Baratheon. =Present ⇒ P. 798, fulfilment of the prophecy: “The Seven Kingdoms have need of you. Robert the Usurper is dead, and the realm bleeds. When we set sail from Pentos there were four kings in the land, and no justice to be had.”
2) Further on she came upon a feast of corpses. Savagely slaughtered, the feasters lay strewn across overturned chairs and hacked trestle tables, asprawl in pools of congealing blood. Some had lost limbs, even heads. Severed hands clutched bloody cups, wooden spoons, roast fowl, heels of bread. In a throne above them sat a dead man with the head of a wolf. He wore an iron crown and held a leg of lamb in one hand as a king might hold a sceptre, and his eyes followed Dany with mute appeal. → The red wedding = Future 3) She fled from him, but only as far as the next open door. I know this room, she thought. She remembered those great wooden beams and the carved animal faces that adorned them. And there outside the window, a lemon tree! The sight of it made her heart ache with longing. It is the house with the red door, the house in Braavos. No sooner had she thought it than old Ser Willem came into the room, leaning heavily on his stick. “Little princess, there you are,” he said in his gruff kind voice. “Come,” he said, “come to me, my lady, you’re home now, you’re safe now.” His big wrinkled hand reached for her, soft as old leather and Dany wanted to take it and hold it and kiss it, she wanted that as much as she had ever wanted everything. Her foot edged forward, and then she thoughts. He’s dead, he’s dead, the sweet old bear, he died a long time ago. She backed away and ran. → Visions of loveliness or Days that never were ?? 4) Finally, a great pair of bronze doors appeared to her left, grander than the rest. They swung open as she neared, and she had to stop and look. Beyond loomed a cavernous stone hall, the largest she had ever seen. The skulls of dead dragons looked down from its walls. Upon a towering barbed throne sat an old man in rich robes, an old man with dark eyes and long silver-grey hair. “Let him be king over charred bones and cooked meat,” he said to a man below him. “Let him be the kings of ashes.” Drogon shrieked, his claws digging through silk and skin, but the king on his throne never heard, and Dany moved on. → The red keep – the throne room with Aerys speaking of Rhaegar to Varys. = Past 5) Viserys, was her first thought the next time she paused, but a second glance told her otherwise. The man had her brother’s hair, but he was taller, and his eyes were a dark indigo rather than lilac. “Aegon,” he said to a woman nursing a newborn babe in a great wooden bed. “What better name for a king?” “Will you make a song for him?” the woman asked. “He has a song,” the man replied. “He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire.” He looked up when he said it and his eyes met Dany’s, and it seemed as if he saw her standing there beyond the door. “There must be one more,” he said, though whether he was speaking to her or the woman in the bed she could not say. “The dragon has three heads.” He went to the window seat, picked up a harp, and ran his fingers lightly over its silvery strings. Sweet sadness filled the room as man and wife and babe faded like the morning mist, only the music lingering behind to speed her on her way. → Rhaegar and Elia Martell, or is it a foreshadowing of the Jon’s birth? And the foreshadowing of there relationship. Past and future?
P. 634: “Our little lives are no more than a flicker of a moth’s wing to them (the Undying Ones),” Dany said, remembering. → Can be applied to god.
P. 635: “…. Mother of dragons… came a voice, part whisper and part moan. … dragons… dragons… dragons… other voices echoed in the gloom. Some were male and some female. One spoke with the timber of a child. The floating heart pulsed from dimness to darkness. It was hard to summon the will to speak, to recall the words she had practiced so assiduously. “I am Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.” Do they hear me? Why don’t they move? She sat, folding her hands in her lap. “Grant me your counsel, and speak to me with the wisdom of those who have conquered death.” (…) P. 636: “I have come for the gift of truth,” Dany said. “In the long hall, the things I saw… were they true visions, or lies? Past things, or things to come? What did they mean?” … the shape of shadows…morrows not yet made… drink from the cup of ice…drink from the cup of fire… (Jon?) …mother of dragons…child of three… (Rhaegar, Viserys, Daenerys?) “Three?” She did not understand. …three heads has the dragon… (Daenerys, Jon and ?) the ghost chorus yammered inside her skull with never a lip moving, never a breath stirring the still blue air… mother of dragons… child of storm… (Daenerys?) The whispers became a swirling song… three fires must you light… one for life and one for death and one to love… (for her dragons, the slavers? And Jon?) Her own heart was beating in unison to the one that floated before her, blue and corrupt… three mounts must you ride… one to bed and one to dread and one to love…  (Khal Drogo, Drogon and Jon) The voices were growing louder, she realized, and it seemed her heart was slowing, and even her breath…three treasons will you know… once for blood and once for gold and once for love… (Viserys when he sell her, gold do we know yet? Jon for love?) (…) P. 637: “… help her… the whispers mocked… show her… Then phantoms shivered through the murk, images in indigo. - Viserys screamed as the molten gold ran down his cheeks and filled his mouth. = Past. - A tall lord with copper skin and silver-gold hair stood beneath the banner of a fiery stallion, a burning city behind him. = Day that never was → about her son Rhaego. - Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman’s name. = Past → Rhaegar murmured Lyanna’s name. … mother of dragons, daughter of death… (Daenerys will brink chaos?) - Glowing like sunset, red sword was raised in the hand of a blue-eyed king who cast no shadow. = Present → Stannis - A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering shadow fire. = Future → The fake Aegon? - From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire = Past → on Dragonstone with Melisandre? … mother of dragons, slayer of lies… (about Aegon and Stannis/Melisandre?) - Her silver was trotting through the grass, to a darkling stream beneath a sea of stars. = Future → Westeros nights, near the Trident? - A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly. = Future → Greyjoy? - A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. = Future → Lyanna regarding Jon? ...mother of dragons, bride of fire…. (her wedding with Jon)
Faster and faster the visions came, one after the other, until it seemed as if the very air had come alive. - Shadows whirled and danced inside a tent, boneless and terrible. = Past → The dark magic of Mirri Maz Duur? - A little girl ran barefoot toward a big house with a red door. = Past → Daenerys? - Mirri Maz Duur shrieked in the flames, a dragon bursting from her brow. = Past → The birth of the dragons. - Behind a silver horse the bloody corpse of a naked man bounced and dragged. = Past → the wine seller. - A white lion ran through grass taller than a man. = Past → The lion which was killed by Khal Drogo and offer to Dany. (or Jaime?) - Beneath the Mother of Mountains, a line of naked crones crept from a great lake and knelt shivering before her, their grey heads bowed. = Future → Daenerys faith of conquest. - Ten thousand slaves lifted bloodstained hands as she raced by on her silver, riding like the wind. “Mother!” they cried, “mother, mother!” They were reaching for her, touching her, tugging at her cloak, the hem of her skirt, her foot, her leg, her breast. They wanted her, needed her, the fire, the life and Dany gasped and opened her arms to give herself to them. = Future → The liberation of slavers.

QUEEN OF THE ASHES
I have been re watching the show from season 1, making notes in every episode and paying attention every time they change from one scene to another and its just unbelievable how much foreshadowing there is about Daenerys burning down KL. I believe that both Cersei and Daenerys will destroy Kings Landing fighting for the Throne, but the show has been pointing out to Dany pretty much from season 1.
S1 E3 – King Robert calls Jaime Lannister and asks him about the time he killed the Mad King Aerys. He asks Jaime what was the Mad King’s last words and Jaime says the king repeated what he has been saying for hours. **Burn them all**. The next scene its Daenerys in Essos riding with the Dothraki ordering them to stop the horde. Jorah comments that she is starting to speak as a queen and she corrects him: not a queen, a Khalessi. I have been re watching the show from season 1, making notes in every episode and paying attention every time they change from one scene to another and its just unbelievable how much foreshadowing there is about Daenerys burning down KL. I believe that both Cersei and Daenerys will destroy Kings Landing fighting for the Throne, but the show has been pointing out to Dany pretty much from season 1.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6GW03WsFgU&t=1s
S1 E10 – The sorceress Mirri Maz Dull tells Daenerys she killed her son because he would be the Stallion who Mounts the World, who would burn cities to the ground. The show is very precise about prophecies due the lack of time, they only show what is absolutely necessary. They left this prophecy because it will have relevance in the storyline. We now know that it was not Dany’s son, but Daenerys herself who would be The stallion who mounts. The prophecy says that the Stallion is the "khal of khals" who will unite all the Dothraki under his single khalasar and ride to the ends of the earth. That’s what Daenerys did in season 6 and 7. If the prophecy its confirmed, she will be the one burning cities and trampling nations into dust.
 >Daenerys: My child was innocent.
>Mirri: Innocent? He would be the Stalion who Mounts the World, now **he would burn no cities, now he will trample no nations into dust.**
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLpvLlrlFgc
S1 E10  - Dany decides to kill Khal Drogo and burn his body next to her dragon eggs. She lays next to him and promises to reunite with him one day "When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east".
The next scene happens in Kings Landing Kings Landing with Maester Pyrcelle and Ross in his room; he is remembering the Mad King and what likeable and charming man he used to be in his youth, before madness took over him.
 >“Aerys Targaryen, of all the thousands and thousands maladies, the Gods visits us, madness is the worst. He was a good man, such a charmer. To watch him melt away before my eyes, consumed with **dreams of Fire and Blood**”
https://youtu.be/wHJTYqLtRms
The episode ends with Daenerys entering the fire pyre to eventually hatch the eggs and give birth to 3 dragons. She had this idea from a dragon dream in the early nights.
S2 E4 - Dany arrives in Qarth and they dont want to let her in, thats the first time she threats to burn down a city and destroy completely. Daenerys is not mad or insane. Her pride its her weakness, she is a very arrogant woman and when her pride is hurt she loses her head and makes drastic and terrible decisions. This wont be the last time Daenerys threatens to burn a city to the ground.
 >Daenerys: Thirteen!!!!  when my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me, and destroy those who wronged me, we will lay waste to armies, and burn cities to the ground. Turns us way, and I will burn you first!!!
 https://youtu.be/In7YGhGt9Dw?t=3m9s
S2 E5 – Tyrion finds out all the wildfire that its under Kings Landing, he mentions that its enough Wildfire to destroy all city.
**“The contents of this room could lay Kings Landing low”.**
The very next scene is Dany is Qarth, teaching Drogo to obey to her Dracarys order for the first time.
 https://youtu.be/YqMrgvy9uMA?t=2m
S3 E4 – In this scene, Varys tries to alert Lady Ollena of how dangerous Littlefinger is. Pay attention at the words he uses to describe Littlefinger, those are the exact same words Tyrion used to describe Daenerys when he met her in Meeren.
 >Varys: **"Littlefinger was born with no lands, no wealth, no armies.** He acquired the first two, how long before he has the army?" Peharps you laugh, but I know him better than most and this is the truth."Littlefinger is one of the most dangerous men in Westeros.... he would see this country burn if he could be **King of the Ashes**
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFZen-XO5II
Varys was afraid that Littlefinger would destroy the realm trying to get the Iron Throne, so he decided to bring Daenerys to Westeros, ironically, she will be the one turning the kingdom into ashes.
And here is something even better, this episode S3E4 ends with Daenerys literally acquiring her **first army**. She sacks Astapor and leaves with the Unsulied, getting her first army in order to invade Westeros. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGRyZSMzRyo)
S3 E7 – In the Throne room Joffrey asks Tywin about Daenerys and wonders if they should do something about her. Tywin dismiss his concerns and tells him that “Curiosities on the far side of the world are no **threats** to us. Westeros continues to ignore Daenerys and her dragons.
Westeros continues to ignore Daenerys and her dragons. George RRM called Daenerys and the Army of the Dead, much bigger threats that could destory the kingdom, but people were so worried about the selfish politics in Kings Landing that they ignore the danger. Joffrey was the only one who saw it the real problem but everyone ignored him.
>You know, one of the dynamics I started with, there was the sense of people being so consumed by their petty struggles for power within the seven kingdoms, within King’s Landing — who’s going to be king? Who’s going to be on the Small Council? Who’s going to determine the policies? — **that they’re blind to the much greater and more dangerous threats that are happening far away on the periphery of their kingdoms.**
https://youtu.be/tk5hKomP4MA?t=1m40s
S5 E10- Right after the scene where Stannis burns down Sheereen at the stake as a sacrifice for the Lord of Light, they cut to the scene in Meereen where Daenerys and Hizdahr are presenting to the reopening of the Fighting Pits. During their conversation Daenerys explain that destroying an entire city it may be ncessary in order to acheieve something great.
Hizdahr - That is a vital part of the Great City of Meereen, which existed long before you and I and will remain standing long after we have returned to the dirt.
Daenerys - One day your great city will return to the dirt as well.
Hizdahr - At your command?
Daenerys - If need to be.
Hizdahr - And how many will die to make their happen?
Daenerys - If it comes to that, they will have died for a good reason.
Hizdahr - Those men (in the fighting pit) think they are dying for a good reason.
Daenerys - Someone else reason.
Hizdahr - So your reasons are true and theirs are false? They don’t know their own minds, but you do?
 https://youtu.be/xszXpZfsd7w?t=4m30s
This dialogue pretty much sums up Daenerys as a character. She is starting to rationale the idea of burning cities to the ground in order to achieve an objective, as something necessary, while not realizing that she is losing her humanity, just like those men who are fighting in the pits. She is using excuses of a greater cause to justify the deaths of millions.
S6 E6 - Bran Stark has a new series of visions and one of the visions include a dragon flying over Kings Landing. In the DVD comentary the producers D&D made sure to observe that the image of the dragon flying over Kings Landing it was one the most important image of the whole show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuBpz6iVEIk&t=3s
S6 E8 – Cersei shows up at the Throne room for a Royal announcement, Tommen declares Trial by combat forbidden in all 7 Kingdoms. Cersei then asks Qyburn about the rumor of wildfire under the city, he confirms that the rumors are true and is much bigger than they expected to be.
 >Qyburn: “Your grace, that old rumor you told me about it. My little birds investigated.
>Cersei: And? Its just a rumor or something more?
>Qyburn? More, so much more….
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmqQo37R3As
The very next scene? Meeren being attacked by the rival cities of Slavery Bay. Missandei tells Tyrion: “The Masters have come to collect their properties”. That’s how Daenerys sees Westeros, something that belongs to her and her alone.
S6 E9 - Daenerys returns to Meereen and finds the city being attacked by the Masters of the rival cities. She then tells Tyion about her plans against the attack.
>Daenerys: “I will crucify the masters. I will set their fleets on fire, kill every last one of their soldiers, and return their city to the dirt.”
That’s the second time now that Daenerys threats to burn down a city and turn into ashes. The third time will be Kings Landing and no one will be able to stop her then.
S6 E10 – The scene where Jon Snow is crowned KITN, Lord Cerweyn tells the room that they need to go home.
>The Boltons are defeated, the war is over, winter has come, if the measters are right it will be the coldest one in a thousands years, we should ride home and wait for the coming storms.
>Jon Snow: The war is not over, and I promise you friend, THE TRUE ENEMY wont wait out the storm, he brings the storm.
https://youtu.be/AXAnxAA73xM?t=37s
Daenerys nickname that she likes to repeat is Stormborn. We all were led to believe that The Army of the Dead would be the greatest threat to Westeros, but its Daenerys and her dragons that we should all be scared of.
I now believe the Night King and TAOTD was a redherring for the real threath that will devastated Westeros and the way George did was kinf of brilliant. The very first scene of the book and show its the rangers going North of the wall and fiding the White Walkers and we were all so scared and terrified of them. Then the last scene of the book 1 and season 1 its the birth of the dragons and we all celebrated!!! We were soo happy and excited, DRAGONS, thats amazing. But Now I believe that it will be the dragons that will bring  misery to the Kingdom.

They did the same on season 7. In the first episode Daenerys finally arrives on Westeros and we are all so happy, finally!!!! Dragons again flying over Westeros, thats amazing!!! we have been waiting for this for decades, then in the final episode the Army of the Dead breaks down the wall and finally enters the Kingdom and once again weare terrified!!1 They are here, oh my God, what will happen? But it was the dragons, again, in the first episode thatwe should have been scared of.

Why did Season 7 disappoint me at first... but now it doesn’t?
Part 1 of 3
Season 7 was a pretty unique shift for GOT. All these characters we have watched do their own things in far off lands kinda converged. The world got a little smaller than it has in the past, and for me there was a little bit of a fan service feeling to that. But I got over it.
The first time I watched GOT all the way through I was biggest Dany stan there is. I practically watched the show FOR HER. I couldn’t wait to see what awesome shizz she was gonna do next: burn the Khals and get the whole khalasar? badass take back her home on Dragonstone? here we friggin go!
Tumblr media
And something I had wanted for Dany for a long time was... true love! Yes, I am sappy and I’m a shipper and I NEEEEEEDED some romance, okay? So what did I conjure up in my head (and everyone else was kinda on the same page)? Obviously in A Song of Ice and Fire, Jon is the ice and Dany is the fire and they are going to meet up and fall in love and have sex and have a baby that is going to to be the epitome of “ice and fire.” So when Jon gets a raven from Dragonstone, when he decides to sail to see her, I was like YAS BITCH. Take off your clothes, let’s go. And Jonerys consumed my entire thoughts about Season 7 (besides those few moments of bliss when the Stark children unite & LF gets what’s coming to him)
Tumblr media
I WAS ROOTING FOR THEM. Okay?
And kindly blindly to be honest. I mean they entered the cave, and I was just like “yes Jon has game in caves!” I mean LOOK AT THAT ARM TOUCH OKAY?
Tumblr media
And she asked him to bend the knee, and I was like oh boy JUST WAIT til he bends the knee for you... (And hits you with that “I just wanted to kiss you there”)
Tumblr media
I actually found that Jon was a great love interest for Dany. She’d never been with someone like him - he didn’t have pride and he didn’t have to flaunt his strength. He is actually super insecure deep down inside, and I think a part of her really enjoyed that. The part of her that also has that insecurity, and the part of her that likes to be dominant. She liked that he was into her. She liked that he seemed to have the respect of his people. I mean Jon is like pretty dope.
Something I think is pretty important is that he’s a hero, but he’s one who has died before and come back to life. The last man Dany loved (enough for her to go kinda crazy and have emotional outbursts) was Drogo. She tried to save him - with magic - and couldn’t. In a way, Jon represents someone who has surpassed her greatest fear in the love department - I’d imagine she’s terrified to truly love someone again and lose them.
Tumblr media
All of this is like working well. Working up to some kind of big romance. Sure things started a little shaky. Sure maybe things are a little reserved right now, but they are royalty. It’s fine.
There were so many clues that they were gonna bang and have a baby. I mean...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when it came time to do the deed. When it came time for their romance to really blossom... I found myself being a bit disappointed.
I didn’t like him giving away his throne, giving away the North after she’d just said she’d fight for the North. I kept thinking whyyy did he do this? I didn’t want that to be a gesture of love. And yet I also wanted them to bang, so I was kinda happy about shirtless Jon. It’s pretty obvious Dany was falling for him before this point - the way she rescues him, looks at him at the wall. IT WAS ALL THERE. READY TO GO. She sees his scar. She’s emotionally vulnerable from losing one of her children TO SAVE HIS ASS. Let’s go.
Tumblr media
Buuuuuut I sure as hell didn’t find any enjoyment in the actual sex scene. I actually wanted to look away. ME. A Dany stan. A Jonerys stan. I HATED THE SEX SCENE. There wasn’t any passion in my opinion. I wanted there to be. But the whole thing felt OMINOUS. It felt DAUNTING. It felt like... duty. Or like this HAD TO HAPPEN. But that this isn’t the right path. I didn’t get what I wanted out of it.
Tumblr media
I wrote this off as poor chemistry. Poor acting. Poor writing. For a long time.
I think at some point you really have to ask yourself if those things are present enough in the past seasons to be relevant contenders for the problem on-screen now. Some examples:
Dany & Khal Drogo - who we KNOW Dany was in love with
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dany & Daario - her lover, but who she didn’t truly love
Tumblr media
Jon & Ygritte - who we KNOW Jon loved
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The look on Jon’s face here is striking to me because I feel like this is the face I’ve seen him make all season...
And some other people in love:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s my best attempt at finding images of Jon and Dany in moments of smiling, passion, laughing, etc. the way that these couples above are shown:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry but there’s SO FEW instances of them actually making a connection outside of trying to form political bonds. Many of these images could mean vastly different things. There’s a few that show us, yes, obviously they have a connection I mean they obviously had sex. Maybe their relationship is more serious... maybe it’s just the gravity of what’s going on. But all these relationships happened in times of extreme stress and danger, and still they all found the lighter side. They all laughed and smiled and joked together. They had serious moments of vulnerability and passion. There was time enough for this to develop between Dany and Jon, and I just don’t feel like that time was used to the fullest extent... which makes me wonder why?
I absolutely believe Dany is falling for him. But is Jon falling for Dany?
He’s pretty good at resisting his ~urges~ Jon with Mel is turned on, but def not in love. In fact, he turns her away because he’s still in love with Ygritte
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know Tyrion says he is in love with Dany. And maybe Jorah thinks he is. Ser Davos even notices Jon is ATTRACTED to Dany. But Tyrion could be trying to manipulate Dany, who has recently discarded his own advice for Jon’s. Jorah is jelly of any man in her life who isn’t him tbh, and he prob looks at Jon as the son his father always wanted - the man he couldn’t be.
Jon LOVED Ygritte. And yet... he betrayed her. He left her. He sided with his brothers of the Night’s Watch. IT TORE HIM UP. POOR JON. ILY.
Tumblr media
You can’t convince me that Jon’s feelings for Dany have progressed to Ygritte-level yet. I’m not denying he feels something though.
If he betrayed Ygritte for the Night’s Watch, won’t he betray Dany for the North and his family? I don’t know that I believe Jon is sleeping with Dany for political reasons. That might be too much of a character leap - although I’m not sure... he slept with Ygritte to fit in with the wildlings, but he also was already falling for her. He essentially used her to prove he wasn’t still a crow, even though he really did love her, he still used her.
Jon fell in love with the “enemy” before, and I think he learned a lot. Namely that they were not the enemy, but also that it complicated matters a lot. It also got her killed, and he dealt with a lot of guilt for everything that happened. Neither of them got a happy ending. I don’t think he’d make the same mistake... I don’t think he’s madly in love with Dany like I originally wanted to believe. He told Ser Davos “There’s no time for that.” And I believe him - More on that in the next post.
Furthermore, at this pinnacle love scene there’s a huge reveal (R+L=J) that makes it kinda gross, super incest-y, and all around NOT THAT ROMANTIC. It’s not sexy. It’s not romantic or sweet. Everything about the way it’s written and filmed leads you to kinda squirm or kinda not root for this to happen.
Tyrion watching in the hallway with a look of “what have they done now?” “what will this mean” Is just MORE EVIDENCE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG!
As a Dany and Jonerys stan, it was hard to see this and come to terms with it. It was hard to realize that the show itself was leading you away from their union being a good thing or a lasting thing...

Chapter 16:
“Have you seen him?” I shake my head. Gris was seated on the patio of the balcony. Millions of things are floating in my head unable to take their place. Gris doesn’t want the crown. Father is unable to hold the crown. The people wouldn’t want him or trust him in that position again. The guards are mostly on our side but they still need a ruler. I can’t force Gris to stay here. I need to figure out the correct person to take charge. I need to figure out what to do with my father. I need to go back and get Stella, Gemma and the baby. Where is Stella going to stay? I flinch feeling an arm around my shoulders. “Everything will fall into place, don’t stress your head too much” He pulls away with a smile. “It's already big enough, we don’t want it to explode” I push him off further away.
“Okay. Lets see if you are right” I walked out not even knowing where my legs were taking me. But I can tell you with each step I took breathing was harder. The stone hallways were cold and dark no matter the torches. I came to an end and turned left. A hold in my steps. “What piece of the puzzle are you supposed to fill?” No matter if I was about to break down to my knees, seeing those eyes did give me some hope. “Isn’t it too hot for you here?” I reach to him and kneel down to wrap him up in my arms.
“Woah!”
“Ghost!” Gris stops with his hands in the air as Ghost takes a protective stand. “He's okay” I slid my hand against his fur. He scoffs at my brother before turning to back up.
“What is it doing all the way here?” I am asking myself the same question. There is no way Jon is here.
“I don’t know how but I know what I need to do” I continue my walk to the main floor. “Iter” The Dothraki turns around to face me. The rest of the dothraki that stayed were on his orders. “We need to talk” I led him to the map room. “I know our actions weren’t pleasant-” he stood up holding out his hand to stop talking. I don’t take it as a disrespectful gesture as most dothraki don’t eithier.
“I will respect the treaty that has held us together for years. You freed us, as long as we don’t attack eachother there is no need for a war to continue” I smile.
“Very well. You are free to go”
“May life continue Princess” The guard opened the door and closed it behind him.
“I see you got comfortable” I laugh seeing Ghost with silk covering his fur. The warm weather would have killed him if he stayed any longer with protection. “Let's go take care of the rest before anyone gets more ideas” He lazly ets up following me out.
“Your grace” a guard comes up. “People have packed up outside the gates” His eyes were filled with worry.
“Let them in” He seemed unsure but he continued his orders. I walk up to the balcony and see the gates open. Loud with chatter they come up filling the main floor. “I know you all have questions!” I scream but they continue on speaking. “SILENCE!” The hold on the rail became stronger. “I know you all have questions and I will not be able to answer every single one!” I could hear groans. “The King will not take the throne. The Dothraki are to always be welcome. I can’t not bring the injustice to nothing but I will do everything and continue to try to make it right to everyone in the city. I know it's not much but with my actions I hope to become the leader you need and want.” The crowd was silent. Many looking at eachother for answers and others not moving their eyes away from my stand.
“MAY LIFE CONTINUE!” Once one started the rest followed. “MAY LIFE CONTINUE!” They Chatted “MAY LIFE CONTINUE OUR QUEEN!” I felt a sting in my heart but a smile on my face. “OUR QUEEN!” This is the right thing to do. I step away from their eyes.
“Get a ship ready for a month long trip” The guard nods.
“Yes your grace” He bows and leaves.
“Sister!” I stopped abruptly infront of the door as it was pulled open. “I heard congratulations are in order” I shake my head and continue to walk.
“No. Since you are up and walking just fine I need you to sail” I look over to the guards following. “Tell all the council a meeting will be held immediately in the round room”
“Yes your grace”
“Going to dismiss all of them” I roll my eyes at his comment. It is true and not well hidden that I hate the council but politically speaking they have kept Omnis running smoothly until father gave them the impression of power is everything.
“If it comes to it, I will” I move into the stables and see horses being prepared. “Father has truly strong ideas but not the right ones. If they still stand with him I will have no choice but to see them out”
“Can’t they wait until I see what things you do to them?” He takes hold of the reins.
“I need you to bring them home. If they lost the fight, Winterfell is not safe for them.”
“I know you have responsibilities now but don’t you think you need to be there too?” I shake my head.
“This is what I need to do now. It breaks me to not go or not being there to see the result but I know my place now and its here. I feel like if I don’t finish this first I will never know what is next”
“I think you have always known what is next. You know deep down what you want but you have so many things holding you back, you just don’t want to disappoint anyone” He climbed onto his horse.
“I am a very patient person brother”
“Life doesn’t wait for anyone sister” I laugh nodding my head but not in agreement.
“I am not asking life to wait” I bid him goodbyes and safe travels and see him off. Riders behind him I walk back into the castle.
“They are all ready, your grace” The guard opens the door and I see the 3 counselors
standing up as I walk around the table.
“Please sit. Counselor Ols, Counselor Green, and Counselor Crone thank you all for coming in a sharp matter of time”
“Well when a princess calls you must come at command” I gave Ols a gentle laugh although his comment was unnecessary. Yes I have not been crowned and I don’t demand a change of name but I know the only reason he does not refer to me as queen is because he never liked the idea of me. Women to him are just property. He has been longer on my fathers side. He is a character but his advice is one of the most that has pushed us forward.
“You must have important things at hand, let's not prolong this meeting” Although his words cut Ols off and his death stare towards me was trying to be hidden by a weak smile I know he was the one who least hated me and what I did. He was a reasonable man. A man who rolled with the flow.
“Yes. I am quite curious as to why this meeting is being held is such quick notice” Crone was the least miserable of the three. He reminded me so much of my father. Hiding his sadness behind all that fake happiness. Yet I know although the outside world wasn’t aware his life was full of disappointments, we knew the truth.
“Yes of course. Questions will be answered at their given time. Let's make this quick. You all know what my father's plans were. I tried to be reasonable to a man who was in pain but he took no look at my reasons. I am not condoning or agreeing but I understand why he did what he did.” I sit down on what used to be my fathers chair. “Point being, my father will not continue on the throne. I have addressed the people of Omnis and upon their approval I will rule. Dothraki and the set agreement is still in place.”
“They will-” I cut counselor Crone off
“There is no but in that statement. I thank your years of counseling but this will be the way of things until I ask for your opinion. I dare no disrespect but if you choose to leave that is up to you.” Crone sits down. “Questions?” They look between eachother before setting on Green.
“What will happen to your father?”
“He is to stay under watchfull eyes until told otherwise. If you choose an audience that will kindly be provided.”
“Your plan is to stay on the throne but what about the people who vote on pureblood?” he stood his ground. But I knew his tension wasn’t about hatred towards me but truly towards what could happen in the following weeks.
“I will make it clear that I am not here to stay. Never was my aim. At this time Grisill is traveling to return Stella to Omnis. She will shadow me as I did father. She is the true heir to the throne and once she is ready I will step back.”
“What happens if she isn’t voted?” Ols adds.
“We will do what has been done before father. Place the crown on the one who has. Counselor Green.” I turned back to him. “Make arrangements to have me presented on each end. I must visit each land to make sure my words get across with understanding”
“A coronation has always been enough”
“There will be no coronation. The title doesn’t belong to me, I am merely stepping in the short term.”
“Very well” Green stands and so does the other two. “I will stop by once everything is organized. Can I add something to this?” I look up at him and nod. “I spoke to your mother about this once. She always hoped you would sit on the throne and be crowned infront of Omnis. You came up, very young and stood your ground. Said you only wanted to be happy” I don’t remember. “The only way you could be happy is with them. She asked if you cared about her happiness and proceeded to say that she would be the happiest if one day you were crowned queen.” Green turned his whole body over to me and walked closer. “Something died in you that day. At the age of 6 and with a smile on your face you turned around and walked away. Following your father since that day I always knew that little girl would never come back. You were a mold.” My eyes started to sting but I knew I could never show it. He stood up straight and with a sigh he said, “I guess I was wrong. That little girl kept fighting, maybe that's what your father saw in you, even when you plead that you will never be ready. He taught you the best of him and you inherited what he loved in your mother.” I stood up as the guard opened up the doors and they walked out, but there was no time to stop and think my legs ran out as soon as I heard a howl. I look around following the noise. Grabbed the closet horse and rode towards the wood. I could distigusih Ghost fur through the browns, greens and all the summer colors around us.
“Ghost” In the middle of everything he stops. I mount off and run towards him.
“Princess”

GoT viewers double standards when it comes to Daenerys Targaryen
So I’ve been watching a whole lot of Game of Thrones reaction videos and reading the comments on them and whatnot, and all this Daenerys is cruel/turning into the Mad Queen/unfit ruler bullshit that I find wherever I look is really getting on my nerves.
So, to get this irritation off my chest and to point out just how hypocritical this fandom can be, let’s draw some comparisons between Daenerys’ actions that bring her scorn and similar actions by other characters that are either rewarded or ignored. Do keep in mind this is not meant to bash any other characters, simply to point out the hypocrisy of some of the people who watch this show.
On using fire in battle-
Tyrion uses wildfire in the battle of Blackwater bay to attack Stannis’ fleet, said wildfire kills the majority of people on those ships including Ser Davos’ son(s), yet he’s praised by the fandom for his great thinking and strategizing.
Daenerys uses Drogon in battle against the Lannisters in season seven, doesn’t use Drogon to burn the entire line the Lannister soldiers formed to avoid killing more people than necessary although she could have done that and cut her Dothraki losses by more than half, yet the response is overwhelmingly negative, calling her a mad queen for utilizing a weapon available to her.
On poetic justice-
Cersei kills Elleria Sand’s daughter the same way she killed her own daughter, keeping them in the dungeons together so Elleria can watch her daughter rot for the rest of her life. Everyone views this as justice and cheers on Cersei for her actions (including me, I liked the sand snakes but that was a great scene).
Daenerys crucifies the Masters in Mereen, just as they crucified 163 slave children, to show them their cruelty would not be tolerated under her rule. She then grants their families permission to take them down and bury them properly, a courtesy those children did not have.
On taking responsibility for children’s actions-
Joffrey was a terrible cunt, he tortured animals, whores, Sansa, and anyone else who bothered him. He was cruel and entitled and an all around terrible human being, tormenting all those around him, yet his actions were never punished or even reprimanded by Cersei.
For lack of better comparison (even though Drogon is my precious baby), Daenerys compensated all farmers who lost animals to Drogon’s fire three times their losses, and the moment a child’s corpse was laid at her feet she locked the dragons away in fear that they would harm another innocent, regardless of the pain it caused her and the rift it put in their relationship.
On using fire as an execution method-
Stannis burned people alive both as a method of execution (e.g: Mance Rayder) and as a sacrifice to R’hllor (e.g: his own daughter!!), yet until Shireen nobody truly gave a fuck that many died at the stake by his and Milessandre’s hands. Also a friendly reminder that being burned at the stake is one of the most painful ways to die, considering the fire slowly works its way up a person’s body, making them feel the prolonged torture, rather than engulf them completely the way dragon fire does, which as the dragons got bigger killed people in seconds.
Daenerys uses fire on the Tarlys and on a Master in Mereen, and she’s immediately compared to the mad king and given shit by the viewers. Do keep in mind the Mad King burned people for entertainment and laughed as they burned, while anyone with eyes and ears can see that Daenerys doesn’t enjoy doing it.
On betrayal-
While we’re on the topic of the Tarlys, remember Roose Bolton? Remember how much people raged when he betrayed Robb? When the lord of a house swears his vows, his vow is first to their Liege lord/house, then to the crown. The Boltons were sworn to House Stark, they betrayed House Stark, they took Winterfell, and they participated in the death of their liege/king in the north. People raged and hated the Boltons for their betrayal, and frankly, nobody really gave a fuck when Roose Bolton was killed by Ramsay, or they were happy he finally died.
Now, House Tarly was sworn to House Tyrell, they betrayed House Tyrell, they took Highgarden, and they participated in the death of the last of that house, Olenna, sound familiar? They were then executed for treason by Daenerys, and the fandom went batshit crazy calling Daenerys mad and impulsive.
On allegiances-
While we’re on the topic of that damn execution, people gave Daenerys shit because the people who bent the knee after the battle were doing so out of fear, thus she must be a bad queen. This is of course completely forgetting the slaves she freed, the unsullied, and the Dothraki, who all follow her out of respect and love.
Cersei is followed purely because she is feared. Everybody hates her, yet with the propaganda she spread about Daenerys, the people somehow see her as the lesser of two evils (yeah, right). There’s no need to wake the old debate of whether it is best for a ruler to be feared or loved.
On demanding Jon to bend the knee-
Daenerys has worked since Khal Drogo’s death towards taking the seven kingdoms, she took cities and freed slaves and tried to do good on her way while also practicing to eventually rule from the Iron Throne. She finally gets to Westeros, and a man she doesn’t know comes in claiming that monsters that were thought to be fairy tales up until this point are real, telling her he needs the armies she worked hard to gain, the dragons she loves more than life itself, and needs her to turn away from her lifelong goal, while providing no proof of the threat’s existence and refusing to pledge allegiance to her. We all knew Jon was telling the truth, but she didn’t, and she had no reason to believe him either. Now, with all that in mind, is it really so hard to understand why she refused him? And considering he was asking for her life’s work, isn’t it common sense that she would demand his loyalty? She would be sending her people to die in a war for him, it’s not unreasonable for her to ask him to bend the knee in return. She did what she could with what he was giving her, she allowed him to mine the Dragonglass and provided the supplies and men he needed to do so, even though she didn’t have to do that.
On attacking King’s Landing-
Daenerys refused to attack king’s landing once she arrived in Westeros because she didn’t want unnecessary death, because she didn’t want to harm the small folk who have already suffered through enough wars. Yes, she lost her temper at Tyrion and almost attacked KL, but she listened to council and attacked the enemy army instead.
Meanwhile, Cersei blew up a sept full of people with wildfire, the damage to the sept likely killing thousands around it as well, and smiled as she watched it burn. Who also tended to smile while watching wildfire burn things? Oh yeah, the mad king.
Honestly, I could go on forever with those comparisons but my fingers are cramping. So, Daenerys is not a mad queen. She is not cruel, she is not emotionless, and she’s the best chance Westeros has. She does not torture and kill people for entertainment (her initial refusal to reopen the fighting pits and clear disgust when she did), she always attempts to motivate and inspire people to join her willingly before resorting to violence, she cares deeply for those around her (her anger when Ser Barristan was killed, her immediate switch in attitude when that Second Sons leader threatened Missandei, her tears when she found out Ser Jorah had greyscale, despite his initial treachery).
Yes, she’s had disagreements with her council, but what ruler hasn’t? That happens because she made an effort to surround herself with people who would tell her if they thought she wasn’t doing the right thing, instead of surrounding herself with people who listen to her every whim regardless of the harm it may cause. That alone makes her better than most of the kings and queens Westeros has had.
Thank you for coming to my very frustrated TED talk🤷🏻‍♀️

How Dany assesses the counsel she receives and makes her own choices - Attempting to save the Lhazareen victims
I want to devote the beginning of this series of posts specifically for May 19 2020, which marks the one-year anniversary of the death of the queen who inspired so many of us. Even if I don't engage exclusively with the show and its discourse, as a Dany fan, I was also very emotionally affected by what happened. I felt the need to write something for this day, even if not show-related. This meta is a love letter to our brave, compassionate and intelligent queen; it shows the kind of leader she is, the kind of leader the show decided to destroy and the kind of leader that will leave an unfillable void if she also dies in the books. #istandbydaenerys
~
This will be a series of posts meant to show that Dany is open to receiving advice and criticism, but that she doesn't act solely based on what other people tell her to do. On the opposite, GRRM makes great effort to write a Dany who most often merges different viewpoints and/or finds her own solutions to the problems she's facing. I won't include every single decision she ever made (e.g. her decisions at court are often made without counsel and her execution of the ritual to hatch the dragon eggs was already exhaustively and deftly analyzed by other people), but there will be plenty of instances in this series that will prove my point nonetheless. The metas will always have four items: in which chapters the events mentioned take place; what advice she receives and from whom; what were her actions; the verdict (whether she followed other people's advice, ignored/rejected them or did both at the same time).
 Chapter (s):
AGOT Daenerys VII
The advice Dany receives:
Quaro, Irri and Jhogo tell Dany that "the riders do [the lamb girl] honor"; the latter goes as far as to propose to cut her tongue if her cries bother Dany.
Jorah tries to normalize what's happening by saying that it's how it's always been and that the khal's men claim their reward for fighting for him. He praises Dany's actions at first by saying that she is Rhaegar's sister, but soon afterwards reinforces that she can't save everyone.
 Dany's actions:
Dany’s hand clenched hard around the reins, and she turned the silver’s head. “Make them stop,” she commanded Ser Jorah.
~
“I will not have her harmed,” Dany said.
As we can see in these passages, Dany uses the limited authority she has to stop the sexual violence she's witnessing. To make sure that she's successful, she consciously changes her manners to convince him:
Dany told him what she had done, in his own tongue so the khal would understand her better, her words simple and direct.
~
“It pleases me to hold them safe,” Dany said, wondering if she had dared too much. “If your warriors would mount these women, let them take them gently and keep them for wives. Give them places in the khalasar and let them bear you sons.”
There are multiple factors to consider as to why Dany proposed for the Dothraki men to marry the Lhazareen women they were raping:
She was told by Jorah that Drogo's men feel entitled to rape the Lhazareen women as a reward for fighting for him, so she is aware that she is breaking their social contract, even if righteously so.
She doesn't understand what marital rape is because she still absorbs some of her society's patriarchal values uncritically. Also, she still doesn't realize that this is a systemic issue and that she can't pass these women around from one master to another. This sets up her eventual rebellion against Kraznys's deal and her freeing of the Unsullied. Her failure to protect Eroeh still looms large in her thoughts and is part of Dany's reflections on why should she be a queen in the first place.
She considers Drogo "the shield that kept her safe" even though her marriage was forced, so she might expect that things work out as "well" for the other women as well. This is understandable for a 14-year-old who, despite being mature in many ways, is still naive in others.
Perhaps most importantly, her decision to help the women could have been easily overruled by Drogo. She had to think of a solution that would conciliate her husband's desires and these women's best interests simultaneously.
On the other hand, while Dany needs to act tactfully with Drogo, she doesn't do the same with the other people around her:
“Khaleesi?” The knight sounded perplexed.

“You heard my words,” she said. “Stop them.” She spoke to her khas in the harsh accents of Dothraki. “Jhogo, Quaro, you will aid Ser Jorah. I want no rape.”
~
“I claim her. Do as I command you, or Khal Drogo will know the reason why.”
~
“I am khaleesi, heir to the Seven Kingdoms, the blood of the dragon,” Dany reminded him. “It is not for you to tell me what I cannot do.”
~
Qotho was ever the cruelest of the bloodriders. It was he who laughed. “Does the horse breed with the sheep?”
Something in his tone reminded her of Viserys. Dany turned on him angrily. “The dragon feeds on horse and sheep alike.”
Now that she is both khaleesi and the last known Targaryen, Dany knows that she needs to have people's respect if she wants them to obey her and see her as an authority. She knows she has to be firm at times, and that's what she does.
The last quote is particularly noteworthy because of Viserys's mention. His influence on Dany contextualizes the development of her political skills in key ways.
We know right from her first chapter that Dany had to grow up and mature more quickly than a normal child/teenager: she lived with someone with whom she had to carefully consider her words ("she knew better than to question her brother"), even when she disagreed with him ("she mistrusted Illyrio's sweet words as she mistrusted everything about Illyrio") or was critical of him ("His fingers toyed with the hilt of his borrowed blade, though Dany knew he had never used a sword in earnest"). Because of Viserys, she had to learn to be conciliatory.
It is also because of Viserys (and the Dothraki, who gave Dany the support she needed to stand up to him) that Dany had to learn to be assertive. Although her brother was "stupid and vicious" and "cruel", he could also be strong-minded and resolute, and that's what Dany held on to. The moments where she declares her titles to express her authority (among other usages) are not only contextualized by the pseudofeudal system that she's part of, but also by Viserys's influence on her (which Dany doesn't accept blindly, she learns the best he could've taught her), hence why you see her using phrases that he used as well. (The difference is that she recontextualizes them - "blood of the dragon" is used to give herself strength in moments of fear and remind herself that she needs to control her emotions to be perceived as an authority; "wake the dragon" is used in moments of great distress, such as when she's furious at Robert's attempt to kill her and Rhaego or when she became impatient with Jorah for constantly trying to isolate her from other men; and so on.)
Dany's handling of her interpersonal relationships with Drogo and Viserys need to be analyzed and contextualized to fully grasp not only this particular moment, but also Dany's entire character development and the politically savvy queen she will become in ASOS and ADWD. Some argue that it was "unrealistic" to see her getting to that point, but I would argue it wasn't at all: her entire life, with all its setbacks and hardships, shaped her to be conciliatory, assertive and resilient and develop the political skills that she did. She wouldn't have survived if she hadn't developed them.
(Just to be clear, none of this is to say that these men were responsible for making who Dany is or that their emotional and sexual abuse of Dany was justified in any way. Indeed, neither Viserys nor Drogo ever had the intention of guiding Dany - her development is hers and only hers. Because of her extraordinary courage and strong moral values, she was able to separate the good from the bad in their influences and be resilient and adaptable all the way through.)
People tend to see this moment solely as a failure on Dany's part because her efforts to help these women didn't pay off. However, to look at these scenes only from that perspective means missing out how they serve as a prelude to Dany's rise as a political leader.
 Verdict:
Dany's decisions were all hers here and she took them despite everyone else's advice (though she also took Jorah's into consideration when she spoke to Drogo).

Translated Daenerys, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms?
youtube
JD: Hello friend, how’s it going! I’m Jag Duran and I’m here today with a new video about Game of Thrones. Today we are going to analyze whether Daenerys could be a great ruler. This is a very special occasion because for the first time I’m being joined by a great friend, Game of Thrones scholar, and someone who I admire, my dear [friend] Jordi Machiavello. Jordi, from Spain, how are you?
JM: Very well and hello to everyone. Please, you are too effusive with you compliments [laughs].
JD: [Laughs] That’s how it is. Well, let’s talk about the Mother of Dragon. How about we start with her origin story, how she developed from a docile and submissive person to someone who has taken the reigns of her destiny.
JM: Perfect, I think that’s wonderful
JD: To understand Daenerys we must bear in mind that she was born in Dragonstone, the daughter of Rhaella Targaryen and Aerys, the Mad King. The parents she never knew and in fact she grew up a refugee alongside her brother Viserys, whom they called the Beggar King. After the death of their protector Ser Willem Darry they went from door to door trying to find someone who would champion their cause. In fact, they struggled a great deal, they lacked many things and if we add to that the fact that Viserys was an angry person and there was a certain intransigence to his character towards Daenerys. She was abused by her brother, which lowered her self-esteem, we can deduce then why she had such a docile/submissive personality.
JM: Yes, in fact I’m surprised that the series hasn’t delved into these traumas Daenerys’ must have from her time living with her brother. Because in the first season the transition from a week Daenerys, a submissive Daenerys, to someone with an extremely strong character was rather quick, in barely four episodes. When she’s with Drogo you can see her character strengthening and having a lot of authority, a very noticeable transition. In the series, there is no exploration of this and so the change is almost invisible.
JD: Exactly. Because we need to establish at what point this metamorphoses takes place. I think it starts when one of her handmaidens tells her to take the reins when she’s intimate with khal Drogo.  There is a phrase that goes, it doesn’t matter what happens to you or what affects you, what matters is how you react to it. I think that after Viserys’ death the negative influence he had over Daenerys ends, with respect to the physical abuses, which were not sexual or at least that’s not spelled out in the books. Anyhow, she went being a trapped girl, to a new, stronger, more resilient, woman with the determination, strength, and the ability to surpass any obstacle that got in her way. But yeah, Viserys use to say to her, “you don’t want to wake the dragon, do you” like a threat and he would pinch her, she was treated like an object. I think had her husband khal Drog, or her son Rhaego, or her borther Viserys, not died I don’t think she would have this transformation that has enabled her to take the Iron Throne. What do you think?
JM: Yes, I think that was an incredibly important moment for Daenerys’ character, when Viserys dies and especially when she says, “He was no dragon. Fire can’t kill a dragon”.  Add to that the deaths of Drogo and her son and those moments that could have caused sadness or disappointment in her, she takes them and internalizes them, turning them into strength. We see this when she gives her speech right before walking into the pyre. At her lowest point when things are most complicated when anyone else would fall apart, she takes this all in and turns it into a strength. So, I think that this is one of the strongest attributes of Daenerys personality and character.
JD: Yes, and as Nietzsche says, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.
JM: Exactly!
JD: Daenerys is an unconventional heroine, she wears many differences faces and this is precisely what we are going analyses, these facets of her character that are not typical of a conventional protagonist. In fact, she has many grey areas / chiaroscuro, sort of strange [for a protagonist] …
JM: Yes, and I think she’s the character with the most chiaroscuro. In the series, there are a lot of villains but also a lot of quote/unquote heroes. The series has tried to explore the greyness of its characters with some having their lights and shadows. I think what sets Daenerys apart from Jon, is that Daenerys has her chiaroscuros and Jon appears to be a character that is incorruptible, that is to say, a character that is wholly white and who carries his honor on his sleeves. This doesn’t diminish him as a character, but I believe that Daenerys’ character is much more interesting because she has those laps of character, that authoritarian lean that make her an interesting and unpredictable character for me. Jon, on the other hand, seems to me to be one of the blandest character at least among the blandest of the protagonists.
JD: In fact, we can describe Daenerys as a real human being in a sense, with virtues and defects like all of us. A young scare girl who eventually overcame her fears. The clearest example of this, is how she was born in the midst of a storm, so in the midst of adversity she lifted herself up and all this can be seen in how each transition affects her. She has suffered throughout all these obstacles as she tells Jon Snow in season 7.
JM: Yes, the speech she gives to Jon about being raped, being sold, been used and betrayed. In that speech, she basically condenses everything that’s happened to her throughout Game of Thrones. This is a good starting point to see how Daenerys has transformed, because sometimes we don’t take that into account because she’s one of the most powerful characters in the series in my estimation. She has two dragons now, but she has as large army and a lot of people who follow her and she’s achieved the biggest conquests and garnered the most achievements in the series. Her character came from nothing and now has almost everything and is going for everything. She’s a very charismatic character that a lot of people like.
JD: I think the betrayals have especially determined how her personality has been forged because these people have influenced her life. This has given Daenerys the ability to determine what to keep and what to let go. I think that your life experiences influence how you react to different things. I think that Daenerys has taken her experiences and has learned to strike first because she’s been hurt in the past, and I think she’s become a bit resentful.
JM: I think that’s because of all the betrayals that she’s suffered throughout the story. Like the conflicts she suffered in Meereen with the Harpy as well as the betrayal she suffered in Qarth. So, I think these are small obstacles that are placed in her way that enrich Daenerys’ character and have been spun well into t story.
JD: Yes, because they’ve wanted to take advantage, literally, of her political position, of the fact that she has dragons, and a lot of people don’t know that in the books she’s 13 years old. Imagine, that how she starts.
JM: Yes, yes
JD: A young naive and innocent girl in a sense and throughout her interactions she’s has she’s forged her character. I feel like she’s a complex character but I wanted to ask you, do you think they’ve tried to wrap Daenerys in a flag of female empowerment.  What do you think?
JM: Yes, I think Daenerys is the perfect character to represent female empowerment because she doesn’t have masculine characteristics.
JD: Of course, of course
JM: That is to say, many times when trying to empower a female character, I’ve seen in plays, video games, films, and including in literature, that when they are trying to empower a female character she’s given masculine traits, like Brienne for example. In Daenerys’ case, it’s completely different because she’s a character that has definite female traits within society, however, in her case these traits are empowered. She’s a character with a sensitive side and an authoritarian side as well being a liberator and a conqueror. She’s a well-constructed empowered character.
JD: Of course. Now Jordi, lets analyze what have been the personal and political successes and failures Daenerys has had throughout the saga A Song of Ice and Fire as well as the series because there are variations in terms of temperament that can perhaps provide an alternative [view]. For example, she’s a person with a good heart, according to Jon Snow, although he might have been looking at other things, like her figure. Anyway, ever sense she saw the khals raping the women of the village [they were raiding in season 1] she defended many of the woman because she knew how unjust it was and she took them under her protection. In a sense, she doesn’t want others to suffer the same abuses of power she suffered. She liberated the slaves of Meereen, Yunkai, and Astapor. She’s willing to negotiate, because she’s not too intransigent, although she could be [at times] because she’s proud, but she’s also an idealist. But she’ll give you options because she understands people, she’s learned how to read them, and this is complemented by the people who advise her, who are wise people, in a sense.
JM: I think Daenerys is following a path, that I don’t believe is the ideal one for her, because her character is constructed in the mold of the character postulated by Machiavelli, Nicolas Machiavelli in The Prince, which is a well-known play. From that play comes the phrase “the means justify the ends” and she’s following perfectly in the mold of the character in The Prince. However, I don’t know what’s going to happen with the path the series is taken with her union to Jon and the upcoming war against the Wight Walkers. I don’t know what’s going to how and how it’ s going to play out. If she continued in the same path she had been up until now [prior to season 7], Daenerys would have to end up ruling on her own, not with another person, not with Jon. Because in that case…
JD: What they had been building with her character[ would collapsed…
JM: Exactly, it would collapse. Especially it would take away from all the power that they continuously associate with Daenerys’ character. {This new direction} Is taking away from that authority [they had been building]. The important thing between the battle of wills is that we need to keep in mind is that it’s two different things to take the Iron Throne and to consolidating power. So, what will Daenerys’ do when she takes the Iron Throne? I think that’s the most important issue we have to deal with right now, because when Game of Thrones ends there won’t probably won’t be much left, that is to say, we’ll have the finally with everyone and the Iron Throne, but we don’t know what will happen afterwards. There could be a rebellion. Will there be a democracy? Are the going to continue with the same system as before? Will they break the wheel, as Daenerys’ said?
JD: We need to focus on the negative in a sense for example when she makes political decision they go against the already established system, traditions, costumes and norms that have been practice in any one geographical region or society. For example, she wants to impose her will in these cities but not only does she does she not give continuity to the former government, setting aside things that don’t work, imposing things that do without any follow through. We have, for example, it backfires when she arrives in Meereen we know she run across some children that were crucified along the way, if you remember.
JM: Yes, I believe there were quite a few kilometers with crucified children that Daenerys came across. It was terrible.
JD: Of course, and what Daenerys does in retaliation is take the slavers and crucify them as punishment. However, among them there were good slavers who treated their slaves well and who were also against sacrificing the children to send a message to Daenerys to dissuade her from coming to Meereen and imposing her rule of law. So, it has it’s disadvantages that Daenerys doesn’t think and just wants to get even, seeing things as black and white.
JM: The thing is that in politics it’s difficult to distinguish grey between black and white. It has to be completely clear cut. I think in respect to Daenerys attitude when it came to her punishment of the slaver it was obviously was wrong because some might have been against crucifying the children or they might have been good, or they might have been very cruel. Daenerys behavior is the perfect model that Machiavelli spoke of. He postulated that a good ruler had to be as much loved and he was feared and that’s why I love Daenerys. She is loved by many of her followers because she liberated the slaves, because she’s a compassionate queen but she’s also feared. She has 3 dragons and if you go against her you’ll be burned to death and if you’re a slaver you’ll be crucified.  So, I like this because I think the death of the Tarly’s was justified because what Machiavelli said was it would be perfect to be loved and feared in equal parts however it’s preferable to be feared. In times of rebellion the people forget about the love they once had, however, fear will always follow them. So, the decision of Daenerys to burn the Tarly’s alive in front of the survivors is cruel, but like Machiavelli said the Prince should know of morality they should only care about the common good and the power of their rule, and Daenerys follows these parameters to perfection. She makes black and white decisions because you can’t make a grey choice, it’s impossible.
JD: Yes, it’s a thin line without a doubt with which to work with and balance, because going back to the slavers/slave Daenerys left many without a livelihood or ability to make a living. Many of the slaves were in charge of educating the slavers children or carrying for them, they lived well and had a bed to sleep on but many of them were left without that and living on the streets. What other negative things can we delineate regarding from her personality. For me, she’s too temperamental, too radical but at times she’s also too merciful which encapsulates a perfect parallel with her ancestor Aegon Targaryen which the producers of the show have tried to show. She has three dragons, like he {Aegon the Conqueror] did, to conquer Westeros but with a following who have contradictory costumes and values to those of the Westerosi people.  She comes with the Dothraki and the Unsullied and how does she deal with the conflict between the Westerosi and the foeigners if there are violations/rape, sacking, death and destruction. You can’t just put a chip on someone and change their values. So how is Daenerys deal with the consequences of her actions. We have the man who confronted her with the bones of his daughter who Drogo burned, showing her the consequences of leaving her children to roam free. Because of this Daenerys decides to lock two of her dragons in the dungeons.
JM: Viserion and Rhaegal.
JD: Exactly!
JM: Regarding the foreign culture and the foreign army which she’ll use to invade Westeros it’s worth repeating that her characterization gets lost and it looks like the model of the Prince they’ve tried to create gets lost, because this breaks with the Machiavelli politics and philosophy because her army is comprised solely of foreigner, the Dothraki savages and Unsullied. This is something that Machiavelli advised against, the conquest of taking of principalities, with only foreigner because then it’s not a conquest, it’s an invasion. You would have to judge the merit of the conqueror, in this case Daenerys, which she isn’t doing so well and it wouldn’t be that good from that point of view.
JD: Exactly! Also, where are they going to live, which of the Seven Kingdoms are they going to establish their homeland, their society or whatever. So, I sort of understand the Tarly’s point of view of opposing and turning their back on the Tyrell and joining Cersei. They don’t ‘want to be the victims of what’s going to happen with this invasion, their homes could be sacked, their women raped, their children killed and it could be an end to their way of life and position in society. So, of course I’d be on the side of defend my country, my territory, and I think it was a bit unjust for Daenerys to end the Tarlys. However, we must see what’s established, that if they need the knee before her, thigs could have turned out much better, she would have had mercy. But it was the Tarlys pride, especially Randyl who refused to bend the knee. His son’s behavior was just stupid because he would have continued the legacy but now it’ll be Sam. But anyway, I think Daenerys learns from her mistakes and has created a certain sense of justice, she helps the downtrodden and the vulnerable areas, she doesn’t hesitate and she create a haven for them. However, sometimes she ignores advice when citations are ambiguous, especially when Tyrion’s brings up question of morality. She says this is how it is and does it. So, that’s also very, no holds bar.
JM:  I think Daenerys attitude towards her advisors is completely justified and I’ll once again go back to Machiavelli who’s very useful model in these conversations.  He said there are two ways to rules in certain political situations, you either had absolute rule or you ruled in conjunction with a council of noblemen. This group of councilors reminds me of the advisors Daenerys currently has. AS a last result Machiavelli advises to choose the first option, if you had to choose, that is absolute rule because with the second option Daenerys would have less power and would have to put down internal rebellions. So, I think this is the reason why at times Daenerys is authoritarian with her advisors because she tells herself, “I am the leader, I’m the one who has to make the final decision”. I think and understand why Daenerys was upset at Tyrion when he was judging her in front of the survivors of the battle, she was telling them either bend the knee or die while Tyrion would not stop yapping and questioning he saying “but Daenerys, but Daenerys”. So, I completely understand Daenerys attitude in saying “No” in this instance. I think a leader must be authoritative at times and in this case her decision was the correct one. As you say, the error here was the Tarly for not bending the knee for their foolish pride when they served the Targaryen’s during Robert’s Rebellion. So then why, it doesn’t ‘make sense.
JD: Exactly! At this point we could establish if Daenerys would be an apt person for a position of power, to rule the Seven Kingdoms, yes or no? She’s better than Cersei because Cersei is a completely irrational person who makes very poor decisions and we’ve seen from the start how all her plans fail. Daenerys has also her failures, but they’re there for the purpose of having her learn from them. She takes the lead and decides to destroy the Harpy, but at the time she did not realize the consequence of her actions and what repercussion they would bring, the murder of the Unsullied and other citizens. She has learned to take these negative experiences and turn them into a lesson, she’s not going to make the same mistake twice. I feel that Daenerys is a person who despite her prepatent, her fury, her intransigence and maybe a touch or a glimpse of her father, the mad king, who many have been compared to her. I believe she can be flexible and can balance reason with the heart and her character has evolved throughout these experiences.
JM: I think here’s where we can discuss Daenerys’ ambition. I don’t think a ruler, in medieval times especially, shouldn’t have their actions judged for what they had to do to reach the top because from ambition to action there are many steps.  When reaching for the top you will regularly do unpleasant things. For me Daenerys is the most complete leader in Game of Thrones. From those who also seek to rule she’s the one with the best chance of ruling, without a doubt. That is, she’s a trusted leader, with character, who knows how to listen and is more than sufficiently capable. Without a doubt the most important thing is that I believe is, that in politics, you must be a leader with credibility, which is something most lack. She knows she can reach her goals and she knows how to go about it. If she’s going to do something, she’s not going to deceive anyone about it, she’ll do it, and she’ll take it and that is something that no other ruler of leader has in Game of Thrones. No even Sansa, who many are talking about. She [Daenerys] has total credibility in her power and her word and I think if she took control of Westeros after the war with the Wight Walkers and once her enemies are defeated she can establish a government that is completely prosperous. Especially if democracy is established, which would be something very complicated to accept for the citizens of Westeros, because it’ll be something new. You have all the extended regions, places like Dorn, which is a place far from the capital and the North that some say is ungovernable, it would be something complicated. But I believe that Daenerys with her credibility and her all the nuances she has as a leader can rule the seven kingdoms in an absolute immaculately manner.
JD: I was remembering a meme on the internet where it was implied... there is a person that’s sitting behind (and above) a line of men and they have a whip and are yelling to go forward, this person is described as a boss and then you have the person described as a leader who puts himself at the forefront leading the men, serving as an example to follow. There are many who critique Daenerys because she only gives orders, saying what she wants done and what is her will to carry out a good government but if she didn’t have her dragons her power wouldn’t be so palpable, her influence wouldn’t be so strong. Do you believe in this statement?
JM: I believe that Daenerys without her dragons would still carve out the same path she’s carved for herself in the series obviously with more complications. There’s a lot said about Daenerys being strong because of her dragons and that the dragons are the ones that have given her power. I say no, that is to say she’s used her dragons as a means to an end. In the end, the dragons aren’t her, they’re just a means. So, a good leader knows what resources to use to achieve their goals and if it’s not the dragons than its X. That is, Daenerys would have been a great leader without dragons, with dragons or with a dragon and a half. That is, Daenerys is a natural leader.
JD: What worries me is that those means to an end can be transitory and afterwards she won’t care about the problem and will walk away like she did in Meereen leaving someone like Daario Naharios in charge who is a mercenary. This can lead to chaos returning eventually and so I think that not being consistent when she’s had these hurdles we haven’t been able to see or haven’t seen a successful case in the true sense. Daenerys has been good for the Dothraki and she’s been good for the Unsullied, who still follow orders blindly, although they are free quote /unquote. In many ways, the people she has freed have suffered the consequences because she hasn’t learned how to carry out the radical liberation. Because it takes time, it takes years to successfully carry out a positive transition where you change costumes and those people who she helped don’t suffer the consequences of her actions. So, I think here she still needs to learn from what’s happened to her so that it doesn’t repeat.
JM: In the example of success that you mention the only successes she’s had are as a conqueror and not as a ruler. It’s complicated trying to figure out how she could be a good ruler but I think the problems that has arisen is how Daenerys character has been written in the last two seasons. Up until the fifth season Daenerys character seemed to me to be optimum, a very well-constructed character whose actions were coherent. However, in the last two season, which have had weak scripts in general, that Daenerys character has acted incoherently at times or things are taken for granted and the time lapses have been enormous. You don’t know how much time has passed between Dany taking the khalasar until she finds Drogon and giving her speech where they agree to go to the ends of the world with her. So, all these things are taken for granted or ignored and I think a lot of this, in the scripts, has harmed Daenerys character in the last couple of seasons.  Even so, she’s still and incredibly strong character, the top character to rule, the number one character. But it is true what you say that she has not had a successful rule as of yet and this gives us pause for thought.
JD: We also have to take into account these processionary measure and decision have been taken in light of a completely different culture for Essos. How can you think to change what has been the law of the land for years? Now, she’s coming to Westeros where effectively all her ideals and way of life are congruent with those there. Everything could be better once she’s settled, the food resources, developing economic ties/treaties, developing relations with the different Houses/ powerful Lords, how to establish commerce. I think she can learn a lot from her ancestors, and I think under those circumstances of the game she could eventually have a true case of success. On the other hand, I think it’s been established that Jon Snow would not {be successful} because he’s made decision that are too impulsive bad decisions. In fact, when he returns to be King in the North, after the Battle of the Bastards, the first thing he does is to go beg the help of Daenerys Targaryen. He doesn’t preoccupy himself with the management of resources but conversely Sansa does worry about these things.
JM: Also, Jon’s character is lamentable because he tells Sansa that she’s going to govern, while everyone is present in the hall right before he leaves. It’s like Jon doesn’t bother planning anything and would make a poor ruler for the Seven Kingdoms because he’s too honorable. A ruler doesn’t have to be honorable, they have to be cohesive with his actions, they have to be just and they have to be authoritative, at least in medieval times. If you’re not, you’ll get eaten alive. Jon’s a character has been created to be a warrior, always.
JD: Yes, I think he’s a person with a good hart, he’s just, and he doesn’t have any vices, like Robert was. Perhaps he’s addicted to violence but not consciously. He wants the best for his people and would do anything to save them including giving his own life. In a sense, we could say there are advantages in contrast to Daenerys. But without a doubt Daenerys is much more apt and would be more apt if she didn’t have her dragons because they represent a danger and a nuclear weapon...
JM: Absolutely.
JD: ...that could bring her a lot of problems subsequently and that is very latent. We have kings that were feared but not loved at all and who were not very good at politics.
JM: In response to what you were saying before about the politics that Daenerys wanted to restore in Essos I want to once again bring up Machiavelli because he postulated that when conducting a conquest of a foreign nation you have three options: Destroy the existing laws, settle within them [work within the system], or keep them all without change. Machiavelli postulated that the best option was to destroy the, because if you settle within them or keep them all together, in time, the people can easily rebel.  So, even if it’s painful and it’s complicated to make this decision you must do it because a conquest is not just about arriving with dragons, destroy everything, and keep everything the way it is politically and that’s it. There has to be an afterwards and Daenerys know this is the only option. I think destroying the establish laws and creating new laws would be a breath of fresh air. In short working within the establish laws or just keeping them all together is more of the same but with an invader which gives the people more motive to rebel. So, I think those were good decision Daenerys took after her conquests.
JD: Yes, definitely. There needs to be an evolution when it comes to ruling. I don’t know if eventually the monarchy will prevail. We’ll eventually see what happens with this type of evolution. I think Daenerys should look into the past. We have for example the case of Jaehaerys I, the Conciliator. He was a pacifist and a diplomat who established many reforms and laws. With his intelligence and wisdom, he was able to achieve a long reign that would last 60 years. Imagine that. I think she can take advice from history. But we can compare her best, because more than anything Daenerys represents a renewed version of her ancestor Aegon the Conqueror. He also had a long reign but there was a lot of conflict and rebellions and there will be conflict and rebellions if Daenerys stays on the Iron Throne. Believe you me. Because she brought the savages, the Unsullied, and the dragons and this generate problems, it generates problems and conflict. How many Houses have been destroyed because of the conflict between her and Cersei, it’s too many. You tell me if there’s not going to be more bloodshed with time. So, I think Daenerys can achieve that balance but she has to be very careful but I think there’ll be a lot of conflict if it’s the later.
JM: But those are the trappings of power. These are things that would happen anyways, if Jon took the throne or anyone else did. In the end, they’ll always be rebellion because not everyone will agree with every decided made by whoever is on the throne, never. They’ll never be 100 percent agreement. What you have to do is know how to smother them[rebellion] and know how to handle them and I think Daenerys would be the ideal leader to smother any possible rebellions.
JD: How would you rank Daenerys as a potential ruler of Westeros?
JM: From 1 to 10 I think Daenerys would score, I’m very demanding, I would give her a 7. And it’s because she has the potential to be a very powerful leader but she’ll have to deal with a lot of problems. That’s way I took away a couple of points. I’ll tell you, those who are behind her don’t even reach 5. I think Daenerys is a person with vitality with the perfect personality to rule and I think the other characters who aspire to the throne couldn’t handle the weight of power. On the other hand, Daenerys has the experience and she can handle it stupendously and it’s her ambition.
JD: Taking what you’ve said as a prediction of season 8 can we assume that Daenerys, according to your taste, or according to what you believe will happen, can she take the Iron Throne or will she take the Iron Throne? What do you believe?
JM: According to how the series is developing, because they are preparing us for it, for in fact the Disney ending that everyone is talking about, for the last two seasons there has been a lot pointing at there be a happy ending quote/ unquote for what Game of Thrones is. Of course, many fans won’t like this, it’s very clear to me that a lot of people won’t like that ending but I think that’ll be the ending with Jon and Daenerys on the Iron Throne and with Tyrion dead because one of the three of them has to die for sure and I think it’ll be Tyrion who will die in the end. But we’ll see how it all ends, I think it’ll be the a Disney ending which I personally do not like. I’ve said it on many occasion I would prefer for Littlefinger or the Wight Walkers winning or conversely because I like Daenerys very much, and every time I say this people jump down my throat saying “how can you like Daenerys”, well I would like for Daenerys to reign alone
JD: Of course, there are many with poor taste and you can’t please everyone, it’s a complicated subject. If Tyrion does it’ll of course be a completely bittersweet ending. But for example, if Daenerys wins the Iron Throne they’ll be reaffirming the character they’ve been trying to portray/project throughout the last seven seasons, the figure of female empowerment. So, if Daenerys dies than all the time spent creating such a complex character would have been for nothing.
JM: Exactly!
JD: Definitely, I believe the Daenerys, as it stands now, will survive. She won’t die, many say she’ll die in childbirth, no she will not die giving birth. I can’t be [that way].
JM: That can’t be.
JD: That can’t be because it’ll be stupid. She comes from a mother, Rhaella Targaryen.  who died in childbirth. Jon Snow comes from a mother, Lyanna Stark, who died in childbirth. And now you create such a powerful character only to have her die in childbirth, without any justification without having accomplish any real change as you’ve highlighted throughout the seven season, I don’t believe it.
JM: It would be a very obvious ending.
JD: But also, I have in mind what’s going to happen with Jon Snow. Jon Snow was resurrected for one reason; he was resurrected for what! To end the Long Night, that’s very clear. He’s the one who will defeat the Night’s King, the Wight Walker and will bring peace once again to end this time of darkness. This is extremely clear.  Nonetheless is he’s going to die having accomplished this, that’s what we don’t know. However, why would they clearly announce, by having Bran say it, that Jon is the legitimate heir to the Seven Kingdoms.
JM: Because they’re preparing us for the Disney ending.
JD: Because they’re preparing us for the Disney ending and because it’s the perfect mix of Ice and Fire.
JM: And I don’t like that because it diminishes Daenerys’ character.
JD: I like it, because I like happy ending. But I understand where you are coming from and I agree with you that it takes away from the things Daenerys has tried to accomplished. Who’s going to be the real ruler, is it going to be Jon, is it going to be Daenerys. Obviously, Jon doesn’t want power and I feel like he’ll resign from it.
JM: Jon can’t be king. Jon can’t be king and I’ll repeat it as often as needed. He does not have the attitude to rule, to be king. He has the skills to be a warrior, a kingssguard, including the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, that’s what he has the skills for but not to be king, he just doesn’t have them at all He doesn’t know how to rule, he has not clue and we see that his character, from the first season, is a character that is meant to be a warrior but not a king.
JD: He has had some success, we’ve seen him as Lord a Commander of the Nights Watch, he takes care of everyone at Castle Black, he looks for resources, he asked the Iron Bank for a loan, he bring the Wildlings through because he has a good hear but like with Daenerys he creates collateral damage that he doesn’t anticipate but I think if Jon put away the fury and the fighting and he focused more he could learn some important lessons
JM: Of course, with season 8 with the leaks that have come across recently they’re saying they’ll be lots of time jumps throughout the season so perhaps Jon does learn but as things stand right now Jon can’t be king.
JD: Of course, because as you say Daenerys has gone through an evolution from a submissive and weak person to someone capable of taking the reins of their own destiny in the transition of four episode and we could see this with Jon Snow with these time jumps and decision making but things are sort of pointing in a different direction because out of all the actors that were filing Jon Snow is the one who spent the most time filing battles so tell me where in all this does he learn diplomacy. Trying to figure out how things will end from a logical point of view and from a conventional cinematography standpoint how things end satisfactory or not. I fell it’ll be more satisfactory than unsatisfactory. I feel like 70 to 75 percent are going to be happy about how it ends because the other way would be very lamentable for HBO obviously and for everyone.  There’s anything you want to add Jordi.
JM: Nothing, I just want to thank you very much for inviting me and time has just flown by .
JD: Same

He sniffed at the wide, floppy sleeve of his tunic, where it was his custom to keep a sachet. It could not have helped much. The tunic was filthy. All the silk and heavy wools that Viserys had worn out of Pentos were stained by hard travel and rotted from sweat.
Dany really did try to reach out to Viserys.
While her handmaids prepared the meal, Dany laid out the clothing she’d had made to her brother’s measure: a tunic and leggings of crisp white linen, leather sandals that laced up to the knee, a bronze medallion belt, a leather vest painted with fire-breathing dragons. The Dothraki would respect him more if he looked less a beggar, she hoped, and perhaps he would forgive her for shaming him that day in the grass. He was still her king, after all, and her brother. They were both blood of the dragon.
Perhaps he would forgive her? She did nothing wrong, and yet she wants to mend things and have him be her brother.
“I am the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, not some grass-stained savage with bells in his hair,” Viserys spat back at her. He grabbed her arm. “You forget yourself, slut. Do you think that big belly will protect you if you wake the dragon?”
She says in ADWD, when he’s hallucinating, that she loved him once. He deserved that love once, but now he’s just her abuser and she can’t get back the man who was her brother, who took care of her when they had nothing. Pretty much every exchange they have has her in fear of “waking the dragon” or Viserys being violent towards her.
His fingers dug into her arm painfully and for an instant Dany felt like a child again, quailing in the face of his rage. She reached out with her other hand and grabbed the first thing she touched, the belt she’d hoped to give him, a heavy chain of ornate bronze medallions. She swung it with all her strength.
It caught him full in the face. Viserys let go of her. Blood ran down his cheek where the edge of one of the medallions had sliced it open. “You are the one who forgets himself,” Dany said to him. “Didn’t you learn anything that day in the grass? Leave me now, before I summon my khas to drag you out. And pray that Khal Drogo does not hear of this, or he will cut open your belly and feed you your own entrails.”
“for an instant Dany felt like a child again.” Dany still is a child. She’s only fourteen and pregnant.
Viserys scrambled back to his feet. “When I come into my kingdom, you will rue this day, slut.” He walked off, holding his torn face, leaving her gifts behind him.
Drops of his blood had spattered the beautiful sandsilk cloak. Dany clutched the soft cloth to her cheek and sat cross-legged on her sleeping mats.
“Your supper is ready, Khaleesi,” Jhiqui announced.
“I’m not hungry,” Dany said sadly. She was suddenly very tired. “Share the food among yourselves, and send some to Ser Jorah, if you would.” After a moment she added, “Please, bring me one of the dragon’s eggs.”
She tried so hard to reach Viserys, and couldn’t. No wonder she’s sad. All that anticipation of him liking the gifts, forgiving her, being her brother and he’s hurt her and had to be told to leave.
Irri fetched the egg with the deep green shell, bronze flecks shining amid its scales as she turned it in her small hands. Dany curled up on her side, pulling the sandsilk cloak across her and cradling the egg in the hollow between her swollen belly and small, tender breasts. She liked to hold them. They were so beautiful, and sometimes just being close to them made her feel stronger, braver, as if somehow she were drawing strength from the stone dragons locked inside.
She clings to the dragon eggs for comfort. They were the only thing to give her comfort after she first wed Drogo, the eggs and her silver. Dany uses her  identity as the blood of the dragon as another source of strength and courage, and the eggs are closely related to that, both as a representation of her sigil, and for what they will become (as signaled in her visions from the very beginning of the book).
“He had planned to take your dragon’s eggs, until I warned him that I’d cut off his hand if he so much as touched them.” For a moment Dany was so shocked she had no words. “My eggs... but they’re mine, Magister Illyrio gave them to me, a bride gift, why would Viserys want... they’re only stones...” “The same could be said of rubies and diamonds and fire opals, Princess... and dragon’s eggs are rarer by far. Those traders he’s been drinking with would sell their own manhoods for even one of those stones, and with all three Viserys could buy as many sellswords as he might need.” Dany had not known, had not even suspected. “Then... he should have them. He does not need to steal them. He had only to ask. He is my brother... and my true king.”
Viserys tries to take the eggs, and even though they are Daenerys’ source of strength and bravery, she would have given them to him, because he is her brother. Jorah doesn’t understand, and Daenerys tries to explain.
“My mother died giving me birth, and my father and my brother Rhaegar even before that. I would never have known so much as their names if Viserys had not been there to tell me. He was the only one left. The only one. He is all I have.”
Viserys is her only family, and she is still trying to hang onto the boy he once was, the person she loved. He abuses her, but he’s family. He kept her safe, and looked after her, and she struggles to reconcile those memories with the man who now hurts her. Viserys and her unborn baby are Dany’s only blood ties, and Dany desperately wants a home and a family.
Viserys laughed. “They can’t kill us. They can’t shed blood here in the sacred city... but I can.” He laid the point of his sword between Daenerys’s breasts and slid it downward, over the curve of her belly. “I want what I came for,” he told her. “I want the crown he promised me. He bought you, but he never paid for you. Tell him I want what I bargained for, or I’m taking you back. You and the eggs both. He can keep his bloody foal. I’ll cut the bastard out and leave it for him.” The sword point pushed through her silks and pricked at her navel. Viserys was weeping, she saw; weeping and laughing, both at the same time, this man who had once been her brother.
I’ll never understand why people judge Dany in this scene. Viserys threatens her unborn baby, he threatens Dany. He’s holding a sword against her belly. History has taught Dany that Viserys is capable of being very violent. She is terrified for her baby, and this terrible threat is what shows her that Viserys is no longer the brother she loved, that the boy who helped raise her isn’t there anymore.
Drogo needs the translation of what Viserys said, his threats, so Dany translates. That is all she does. She doesn’t give any order, she’s not complicit, and what happens afterwards is not anything she wished for.
“What did he say?” the man who had been her brother asked her, flinching. It had grown so silent in the hall that she could hear the bells in Khal Drogo’s hair, chiming softly with each step he took. His bloodriders followed him, like three copper shadows. Daenerys had gone cold all over. “He says you shall have a splendid golden crown that men shall tremble to behold.” Viserys smiled and lowered his sword. That was the saddest thing, the thing that tore at her afterward... the way he smiled. “That was all I wanted,” he said. “What was promised.”
She had gone cold all over. This whole scene is trauma upon trauma for Dany. That sensation, that feeling of cold, is her knowing it’s going to end badly, and it shows that she isn’t in on it. It’s out of her hands now. It was out of her hands the moment Viserys drew the sword and broke the taboo.
When the sun of her life reached her, Dany slid an arm around his waist.
Drogo is her protector in this scene. Yes she reaches for him, but think about what just happened, not what is about to happen. Viserys held a sword on Dany and her unborn child, her child with Drogo. The point of it pressed close enough to prick at her skin, and only Drogo’s actions ended the threat. Drogo represents safety for Dany and her baby, even though he also represents doom for the man who was once her brother.
Ser Jorah had made his way to Dany’s side. He put a hand on her shoulder. “Turn away, my princess, I beg you.” “No.” She folded her arms across the swell of her belly, protectively. At the last, Viserys looked at her. “Sister, please... Dany, tell them... make them... sweet sister...”
Two things here. First, Dany has her arms folded protectively over her belly, thinking of the child Viserys was going to kill. The sequence of events would have her in shock. Second, Dany would not have been able to successfully intervene, even if she overlooked the threat to kill her and her child. Dany tried to stop it, before it went too far. She offered him her dragon eggs, and begged him to put down the sword, and instead he wielded it against her, a khaleesi of the Dothraki, and the Dothraki will never overlook that.
Varys said as much earlier in AGOT.
“By now, the princess nears Vaes Dothrak, where it is death to draw a blade. If I told you what the Dothraki would do to the poor man who used one on a khaleesi, none of you would sleep tonight.”
Dany had done everything she could for Viserys. She’s his victim here, and he’s no longer the brother she loved, but her abuser who hurt her again and again, and escalated it to an attempt to hurt not just her, but to harm her child. Dany has nothing to apologise for with Viserys, and she never did.

“Jorah,” Daenerys said quietly. Jorah was at her side in an instant. “Khaleesi?” Daenerys’ eyes scanned the room warily. “I want you by my sister’s side at all times while we are here. Understood?” Jorah nodded once and quickly made his way over to you. It wasn’t that you couldn’t take care of yourself, but you were sometimes too kind for your own good and people could take advantage.
At Xaro Xhoan Daxos’ party, there were people everywhere. People Jorah and Daenerys didn’t trust. “Princess,” Jorah greeted the moment he stepped up next to you. You gave him a bright smile, happy to be near someone you knew. “Ser Jorah.” You leaned up to whisper in his ear, “Thank you. I was starting to get uncomfortable.” Jorah chuckled, as if you said something funny in order to keep your hosts from suspecting anything. “Of course, Princess.”
“Jorah, how many times must I tell you to call me Y/N?“ you quipped. Jorah smiled. You were always so playful, despite traveling with the Dothraki. At Daenerys’ urging, Khal Drogo had ordered the Dothraki not to touch you, an order Daenerys kept in place when the khal died. Even so, with the constant traveling, one would think you’d lose your spark. Your light. You never did. That’s what drew Jorah to you, although he kept it well hidden.
"I could not. Your sister is my Khaleesi and you are my princess.” You laughed lightly. “Very well, Ser.” One of the many men in the room came over and asked you for a dance. Jorah’s eyes narrowed and he placed a hand on your shoulder. He was going to protect you from these people. While he didn’t know any of them personally, his gut twisted every time he was around them. Jorah almost always trusted his instincts. “My apologies, but the princess has already promised me the next dance.”
Without waiting for a response from the young man, Jorah took your hand in his and lead you away. “What was that about? He seemed nice enough.” Jorah rolled his eyes at your innocence and started to dance with you. You flushed. You’d never been that close to him before even though you wanted to be.  "People are not always as they seem, Princess. You should know this from living with your brother.“ You frowned at the mention of your now deceased brother. Jorah was right. Viserys could put on a friendly face, but lurking behind it, was nothing more than a dangerous snake. "Forgive me. That was uncalled for,” Jorah apologized as he swayed with you. You shook your head. “It’s alright. I know you are only trying to protect me.”
When the dance finished, you moved to walk away, but Jorah wasn’t far behind. “Are you going to follow me all evening, Ser?” Jorah laughed again. “If I must. I told your sister that I would keep an eye on you tonight. She seems very concerned for your safety.” You shrugged. “She should be more concerned with her own. She is the one with power and the one others wish to kill.”
"You know more than people think, Princess.“ You snorted out a laugh. "I am not stupid, Jorah. I know how the world works. Just like I know that my sister wouldn’t send you to protect me if she didn’t know something she isn’t telling.” You glanced at him when he stepped up beside you. “And what is it that you think she isn’t telling you?”
"It could be one of two things. The first is that she expects something to happen tonight that would jeopardized my safety,“ you stated as Jorah lead you outside the crowded manor of Xaro Xhoan Daxos. "And the second?” You stopped walking and turned to him. “The second is that she knows the secret I’ve been hiding since she first married Khal Drogo.”
"And what is that?“ he asked, reaching out to push a strand of hair behind your ear. He thought better of it and lowered his hand again.  You opened your mouth to answer, but were quickly interrupted by Daenerys. "Jorah, Y/N, come with me please.” Your brows drew together, but you wasted no time in following after your sister. “What is it, Dany?” you asked softly, ignoring Jorah’s eyes on you. You knew he wouldn’t be satisfied with leaving his question unanswered for long. “Xaro Xhoan Daxos has asked me to marry him in exchange for half his fortune for ships to sail to Westeros.”
"Don’t do it,“ you and Jorah said at the same time, making Daenerys smile. "With his help, we could sail to Westeros and I can claim the throne.” Jorah shook his head. “I do not trust him, Khaleesi.” You nodded in agreement. It took some time, but you finally managed to convince your sister. When she returned inside to give Xaro the news, Jorah turned back to you.
"You were saying, Princess?“ You gave a little shrug. "Never mind. It is not important.” Jorah quirked a brow, but he didn’t question it and you breathed a sigh of relief.  You hoped he’d leave it alone for now. It was no time to admit feelings, not when your sister was so set on taking the Iron Throne and needing Jorah’s assistance. For now, it was enough for you to have him as your protector.

Time Stands Still Ch. 7: The White Wolf
So I was feeling really bummed with no GoT to watch (since yesterday was Sunday) and I just decided to write, write, write.  It’s a longer chapter where some of the earlier plot lines (Gendry and Jaime) start to come together, there’s also lots of smut and fluff.
WARNING: EXPLICIT
Summary:  A night of steamy passion for Jon & Dany. Jaime has woken the dragon in Jon and they have a confrontation. Fresh from laying into the Kingslayer, Jon pays a visit to Gendry. The baby moves for the first time! An unconventional coupling for Jon and Dany ends the chapter on a smutty high note.
The result of her marriage to Khal Drogo, Daenerys had certain limits and rules when it came to fucking.  Drogo had taken her roughly, the way a hound took a bitch, not caring whether she was wet or ready.  It had been painful and traumatic for Dany, for all that it had been her duty.  It was animalistic - the Dothraki way - the only way Drogo had taken her for many months at the beginning of their marriage, before Doreah had educated her, telling her love comes in at the eyes Khaleesi.  Once, when Daario had tried to take her from behind, Dany had wheeled around in her panic and struck him in the face with her elbow, causing blood to gush from his nose.
So it was a bit surprising to her that when she woke in the dead of the night to feel Jon behind her, grinding his erection against the cleft of her ass, she actually moved against him.  His strong arms pulled her closer still, sliding one hand down her flank to hook under her leg, and slid his swollen cock into her from behind as he swept his other hand over her breasts.  He kissed her shoulder and neck, leaving a trail of love bites in his wake. Daenerys let out a soft sigh.  She would never get tired of this man, she thought.  This wasn’t fucking, it was making love, and no matter cliché it sounded, it was true.
Jon flexed his hips and ass, driving his manhood slowly, methodically into her dripping cunt before withdrawing it again, eliciting a little cry of frustration from her each time. His hand released her leg and came up to wrap around her neck, applying a bit of pressure there as he turned her face toward his, claiming her mouth.  Their breaths were becoming hard and frequent as their pleasure built and strained their ragged desire.  Mewling cries escaped from Dany’s throat, while Jon growled from deep within his chest.
He began to thrust into her harder, his movements becoming more frenzied and less controlled as he neared his apex.  His hand slipped between her legs, strong and gentle at the same time, seeking out the sensitive bundle of nerves there, finding her slick and wet.  He worked his fingers over her juicy pink flesh until her body went taut as a bow string against him, releasing an unearthly cry from her lips as wave upon wave of pleasure overtook her.  She swam back up to the surface of consciousness before ecstasy swamped her again.
Jon felt her walls contracting around him, her nails digging into his muscled thigh as she reached for something, anything to steady herself.  The kiss of pain sent him over the edge into the abyss of his own pleasure.  Jon bit down gently on the soft flesh between her neck and shoulder and came hard, his hips bucking of their own accord into her backside as he drained himself inside her.
After he’d recovered, Jon got up to tend the fire. He stood and walked naked to the fireplace, rubbing at a knot in his hip and stretching out his legs as he did so.  Daenerys propped herself up on one elbow and openly admired his body from beneath the mountain of furs, appreciating the way the firelight danced over his skin, accentuating every ripple and cut of muscle, every hard-won scar.  “Are you ogling me?” he asked, chuckling huskily. Daenerys bit her lip and answered, “Most definitely.”
“Like what you see?” Jon retorted, turning to walk back to the bed, giving her an eyeful.
“Perhaps,” she answered rising to her knees, the furs falling to the mattress. He walked to the edge of the bed, and she put her arms around his neck, pressing her nakedness against him.  Gods, he thought, she will be the death of me.  And I will gladly go to my grave.  They fell back into bed, laughing like children and made love once more.
Long after Daenerys fell asleep curled against him, Jon lay awake reflecting on things as they were – he’d lost much, but he’d gained more.  He wasn’t sure the exact moment it happened; Jon had fallen in love with her the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once. It was a compendium of little moments over time – the way she’d tried to intimidate him when he first arrived on Dragonstone; her surprised expression when he’d reached out and put a bare hand on Drogon (and not been eaten alive); how Jorah had told him she waited out in the freezing cold at East Watch for hours, hoping against hope he’d somehow return; the look in her eyes on the boat when he’d called her his queen; the way she’d held onto him the night they’d first made love, like he was the only safe harbor in a storm.
The dawn came all too soon.  Jon rose and dressed, watching the steady rise and fall of the furs under which she lay. He decided to let her sleep; she’d been pushing herself way too hard as usual, even though she was clearly fatigued due to her pregnancy.  She’d be mad at him, he knew, but if they fought over it, they’d surely have to make up. He tucked the furs around her and kissed her forehead before he crept from the room.
His first stop was a visit to the armory to check on the armor he had Gendry making for Daenerys.  Jon knew there was no way she would stay out of the fighting, even two or three months pregnant.  It just wasn’t like Dany to sit on the sidelines.  She’d once said, “What kind of a queen am I if I’m not willing to risk my life to fight my enemies?”   They’d had several disagreements about it, which had gotten quite heated.  Not that the making up hadn’t been heated as well, but Jon didn’t like to see her get worked up and he worried about their child. It was not in Daenerys to concede to him.  It was not in Jon to plead with her.  So in the end, he’d decided armor would be the compromise.
It was handsome armor, to be sure - made to be lightweight so it wouldn’t be cumbersome.  It consisted of a black boiled leather cuirass molded to fit her every curve, designed to be worn over a lightweight ring mail hauberk, the red three-headed dragon sigil on the gorget and pauldrons.  He’d had Gendry make matching vambraces and greaves to protect her arms and legs.  It would not protect her in a fall, but it would protect her from arrows and spears, which were surely the greatest threat to her on the back of Drogon.
After Jon suggested a few additional minor adjustments to the armor, Gendry said he thought it would be ready the following day.  “Gendry,” Jon said, “I have something else I need to talk to you about.”
Shit, he knows.  “What’s that Your Grace?” Gendry asked, keeping his eyes on his work, though he knew Jon was alluding to Arya and what he had seen a day previous as they had been embracing when Jon came walking in.
Don’t play dumb with me, Jon thought.  “My sister, Arya.  She’s told me how you came to meet as she fled King’s Landing with Yoren for the Wall.”
(Sigh of relief) He just wants to know how I know his sister.  Maybe he didn’t see us clearly.  “Yes, Your Grace,” Gendry said.  “I had been dismissed by my master and planned to journey to the Wall to join the Night’s Watch.  Lady Arya was in the company of Yoren, who had been in King’s Landing securing new recruits at the time of your father’s execution by the Lannisters.  She’d cut her hair and was dressed as a boy.” Gendry chuckled, remembering, “Told me her name was Arry.  She was convincing, Your Grace, but she didn’t fool me.  Only I didn’t know she was a highborn lady ‘til the after some Lannister soldiers came around asking questions.  She thought they were looking for her.  She confided in me she was Arya Stark.  Almost died, I mean, I’d been talking about my cock and taking a piss in front of her …”
Did he just say he pulled his cock out and pissed in front of my little sister?  “You what?” Jon asked, not sure he’d heard right.
Fuck, Gendry thought to himself, now you’ve gone and bloody done it!  “Beggin’ your pardon Your Grace, I didn’t know … who she was, I mean,” Gendry stammered as Jon reeled on him.  “I was respectful after I found out, I swear it. Kept my distance. Even tried to address her as ‘my lady’ ‘cept she wouldn’t have it.  I kept her secret Your Grace, even when the Lannisters caught us and was going to torture me.  I care for your sister a great deal.”
That sounds like Arya, but still … Jon’s hand shot out and cuffed Gendry on the ear.  “I can’t believe you knew she was a girl and you were pulling your cock out in front of her to take a piss!  Seven hells!”
“Apologies Your Grace!” he said, rubbing his ear, “I, I didn’t know, I swear it.”  He’s going to bloody kill me, he thought.
You’d better not lie to me, boy.  “When I walked in here yesterday I saw you two – you had her in your arms.  Explain yourself.  What are your intentions with my sister?”
Shit, shit, shit!  I’m good as dead.  “As I said Your Grace, I care for your sister a great deal.  I never thought I’d see her again, had no idea she was here at Winterfell.  She thought I was dead after I was sold by the Brotherhood to Stannis Baratheon’s red witch.  We was just overcome is all, Your Grace.”
How dumb does this kid think I am? Overcome. Overcome by your cock you mean … “’Overcome’?  You expect me to believe that?  I saw you with my own eyes.  You ‘care for her a great deal?’  Please! You were going to kiss her, just admit it.”  Admit it … and I will fucking kill you for thinking about my sister that way …
Just tell the truth.  He’ll respect the truth, that’s the kind of man he is.  “I wanted to Your Grace, but I wouldn’t have. She’s a highborn lady of Winterfell. I’m just a bastard from Flea Bottom. I have nothing to offer her, even if I do love her.” Oh. My. Gods.  What did I just say?
Well, damn.  He loves her. “And I was just Ned Stark’s bastard, now I’m King in the North. The world we’re living in is changing Gendry.  When the wars to come are fought, it won’t matter what the name of your house is, who your father or mother was.  And honestly, I don’t think Arya cares either.  She’s never really thought of herself as a lady.  It’s just not her, but as it seems to matter so much to you, as king, I have the power to legitimize you.”
Wait.  What? “Your Grace?” Gendry asked, unsure of what Jon had just said.  Never in his wildest dreams since he’d discovered the great Robert Baratheon was his father, had he even considered the remote possibility of being legitimized.  Does this mean his isn’t going to kill me?
And she loves him.  “I could legitimize you, make you Gendry Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End.  It’s within my power as king.  You are the last of your line Gendry.  There are no other Baratheons left.  And it would give you ‘something to offer’ my sister.  I’d like to do it, as thanks for what you did for me – for the realm - beyond the Wall; you saved my life. Fuck, fuck and double fuck.  I owe him.
“Th-thank you Your Grace,” Gendry stuttered.  “I don’t know what else to say.”
“Don’t make me regret it.  And Gendry? Don’t hurt my sister.  If you hurt my sister – well, I suspect she’ll end you herself – but if she doesn’t …” Jon patted the hilt of Longclaw.
Gendry swallowed hard and nodded as Jon left him.
///
Jon’s second order of business was to find Jaime Lannister and put him through the fucking wall.  Last night at supper, Jon had asked Sansa about what Jaime had said at the small council meeting.  She’d answered him coolly, told Jon nothing had happened, that the Kingslayer had been ‘very kind’.  Jon didn’t believe her; there was nothing ‘very kind’ about Jaime Lannister.  His mind flashed back to a day many years ago, when he’d gone to say goodbye to Bran before he left for the Night’s Watch. He’d told Robb the same lie about his lady mother.  She was very kind.  Jon called horseshit.
He didn’t knock before he threw open the door of Jaime’s chamber, the door swinging inward and banging against the wall with a hard “crack”.  Jaime, to Jon’s disappointment, didn’t even jump – he was already up out of bed and dressed.  Jon would’ve liked nothing better than hauling him out of his warm bed and giving him a rude awakening.  Jaime had roughly 5 inches and 2 stone on the King in the North, but Jon wasn’t intimidated.  In truth, he wasn’t the least bit concerned.  He’d taken on bigger men than the Kingslayer, felt their bones crack and their blood warm on his hands.  And Jon was no fool; he hadn’t come alone.  Ser Davos and Ser Jorah waited just outside in the hall.
Jaime was standing at the window looking out when Jon barged in.  Without turning, he knew it was Jon.  In truth, he’d been expecting him.  “Your Grace,” he said smoothly.  “To what do I owe the pleasure?”  Jaime turned and walked to the side table.   “Some wine?” he picked up the decanter as if to pour.
Jon only glowered at him.  “A bit too early for wine, you say?” Jaime mocked, setting the decanter back down on the table.
Jon strode across the room to where Jaime stood.  His heeled boots have him a bit more height, and his fur cloak a bit more bulk.  Even so, he had to look up to make eye contact with the Kingslayer.  His eyes were charcoal embers, blazing with anger. Jaime’s own green eyes twinkled dangerously, his fingers toyed with the hilt of Widow’s Wail where it hung from his hip.
“Go ahead Lannister.  Skin it. See what happens,” Jon threatened, his eyes flicking in the direction of the glittering golden sword.  Jaime made no move.  “You used to be a great swordsman – one of the best, if the bards are to be believed – but that was before you lost your sword hand.  I see you for what you are – a military man, our newly named Master of War, yes.  But the deadliest swordsman in the Seven Kingdoms?  I think not.   I see you standing there sizing me up, underestimating me.  Don’t make that mistake. Others have. They’re dead and I’m still here.”  His own hand rested on the hilt of Longclaw.
Jaime was impressed by the swagger of Jon Snow.  He didn’t back down from a confrontation, he had to give him that. Jaime exhaled with an audible sigh, almost sounding as though he were bored.  “I apologize for my inappropriate conversation with your sister, Your Grace. It wasn’t well done of me.  But rest assured, Lady Sansa is much tougher than she lets on.”  His throbbing balls reminded him of that.
“She’s starting to let on,” Jon said, pride welling up inside him for both of his sisters.  “Lady Brienne has told me of the oath you swore to Catelyn Stark to return her daughters to her; she believes you meant to keep it.  She believes you are a man with honor, that you can yet be redeemed.  She swore oaths as well, to Lady Catelyn and to Sansa, but I believe you knew that. You gave her the sword Oathkeeper did you not?”  Jaime nodded his ascent.  “Did you know Lady Brienne defeated the Hound in single combat?  The north is full of deadly women at the present moment,” Jon mused. “You swore an oath to Queen Daenerys yesterday.  See that you keep it.  And, be warned – you continue to fuck with Sansa, you do so at your own peril.”
Jon collected Ser Davos and Ser Jorah, who’d heard the whole thing from outside the door.  “You should have asked him to surrender his weapons, Your Grace,” Jorah advised.
“Sword or not, Ser Jorah, it makes no matter, Jon answered.  “All men must die.”
Jon and his entourage went to the great hall to break their fast.  Jon decided to take a tray to his chamber for Daenerys, and he told one of the serving girls he wanted boiled eggs, cheese, bacon and crusty bread – enough for the two of them.  When she returned to follow him up to the room, he dismissed her. He’d take it himself, he said.
Returning to his chambers, he found his queen still abed, though she was awake and sitting up against the headboard.  Her eyes flew to his when he walked in with the tray, and he saw tears trailing down her cheeks.  He was immediately afraid something had happened with the baby; he nearly dropped the tray in his haste but found faculties enough to slide it onto a table in the center of the room as he hurried to her side.  She reached out to him as he rounded the foot of the bed.  He dropped to his knees beside the bed, expecting to be greeted by the sight of blood but there was none.  His eyes went to hers, worried, questioning.
Without a word, she took his hand and placed it on her belly.  It was only a moment before he felt the stirring there as their child pressed against her womb and kicked outward.  His eyes grew wide, he’d never felt anything like it before – life, hope, right here inside his queen.    Tears welled in his eyes, and he dropped a kiss on the gentle swell of her belly before cupping her cheek and kissing her lips with awe and reverence. He stood and sat on the edge of the bed. Using his thumbs, he wiped her tears away and kissed her again.  He’d never felt more masculine or manly in his life than now, knowing that he alone had planted the seed that took root within her, given her a child when she had thought all hope was lost.
The kiss turned from one of happy celebration to one of claiming quickly. He captured her hot, opening lips with a dominance that told her she was his now and forever.  He wasn’t gentle or careful, pushing his tongue past her lips. She climbed astride him where he sat and pulled his hair loose from its knot. She fisted her hands in the curls, pulling his mouth harder against hers.  He groaned, but the sound was lost against her mouth.
And then her small hands went to the buckles of his gorget, removing it and tossing it aside with a clangor, then to the laces of his jerkin which she slid off his muscular shoulders without a word.  None were needed.  He knew what she wanted, as surely as the sun rose in the east.  He wanted it too.  He slid her off his lap, stood and pulled of his boots, his prick straining at the suede confinements of his trousers.  Daenerys swung her feet over the side of the bed, grasped the waist of his trousers and jerked him roughly to stand between her open thighs.  She looked up at him, her violet eyes stormy and full of heat. Her hair was loose from its usual neat braids, and tousled from sleep. To Jon, she’d never looked more beautiful than she did at this moment.  Her fingers were nimble and quick over his laces, and she had slipped her small warm hand inside and wrapped it around his cock within seconds, eliciting a harsh exhale from him.  She used her free hand to push the suede trousers over his firm ass, and they slid down to pool at his knees.
She looked up at him again through thick black lashes as her hand stroked his hard length. Jon’s head fell back and he closed his eyes.  Gods it fell so good, he thought, her hand was both velvet and iron around him.  Her tongue darted out to lick the length of his shaft, ending at the tip with a flourish to taste the pearly drop of pre-cum there.  She pressed his head against her lips and he slipped easily into the moist heat of her mouth.  His hands fisted in her hair and he opened his eyes to look down at her.  She was a beautiful sight, her lips stretched into an “O” around his girth, her large violet eyes looking back at him.
Jon pulled on her hair, pushing her down over his cock until he hit the back of her throat, then dragged her back until the tip popped out of her mouth. What possessed him, he did not know. “If you want me to stop, tell me now,” he whispered.  When she said nothing, he did it again; she didn’t protest.  He wasn’t rough, nor was he gentle as he continued fucking her mouth. Her hands came up to wrap around his muscular ass, nails digging in as he continued to slide her mouth over his dick, her teeth gently scraping his flesh now and then.  She felt herself growing increasingly wet, and a persistent throb began between her legs, her pussy’s way of begging for his attention.
Jon was on the plateau of his pleasure, looking down into the velvet pit below.  He told her he was going to come, but she didn’t cease her licking and sucking.  His mind couldn’t process the fact he would come in her mouth.  The thought sent him over the edge; his cock began to pulse and he couldn’t hold back, shooting his creamy essence down her throat.  She drank it all, not wasting a drop, as his hips bucked and his dick jerked. When she released him, he collapsed on the bed beside her, his chest heaving, pops and flashes of light forming behind his eyes. Seven hells, he thought, she drank his me down, swallowed me whole.
His eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the light filtering in through the curtains. It was nearly midday; Jon found himself ravenous, but not for food, only for Daenerys.  “Come here,” he ordered her, his voice a husky whisper.  She dared not deny him, and she liked this demanding, dominating side of her king.  She pulled her thin silk shift up over her head and tossed it aside, then slid up his body.  Jon growled at the feel of her warm bare skin on his own, longed to maintain the contact, but gave into the urgent need he had to taste her.  Putting his hands under her arms, he pulled her on top of him, one thigh on each side of his chest, then guided her with strong hands until her dripping slit was over his mouth.  He was not tentative, plunging his tongue into her honeyed core, making love to her with it.
She did not understand at first what he was doing, what was going to happen. Daenerys had ridden men, and Jon had given her the Lord’s Kiss, but she had never done both at once.  Each experience with Jon took her to new heights of arousal, but this one felt sinful and salacious.  At first she tried to escape, but Jon’s hands were firm on her hips and thighs as he held her to his mouth while he lapped at her juicy folds. In equal parts, he fucked her with his tongue while gently sucking and licking at her engorged bundle of nerves. His close-clipped beard and mustache tickled and prickled her sensitive skin.  Daenerys was nearly out of her mind with the pleasure of it, the sweetest kiss, running her hands up over her chest and tugging at her own hardened nipples. She listened to the sounds he made; groans and growls, contented hums, lapping and licking and sucking noises.  As what seemed like the hundredth contented groan left Jon’s lips, Daenerys began to cry out.  She shivered and convulsed as she came, coating his beard and face with her slick juices.  He held her in place until he’d had his fill of her and she was like a wilted winter rose in his arms.
When they had finished, she lay in his arms, her cheeks flushed from their exertions.  He stroked her soft belly, just beginning to swell, again felt movement there.  He smiled and kissed Dany’s forehead, thankful Gendry would have the armor ready tomorrow so he could gift it to her.  His thoughts drifted to the child, wondering … would be a boy or a girl, would it be equal parts dragon and wolf, would it have Daenerys’ violet eyes …
As if she sensed his thoughts, she asked, “Are you excited to be a father?”
“Truly?” he asked.  “Truly,” she whispered back.
“Aye, I’m excited and … I’m terrified,” he said, his voice thick with emotion, “but together we can be brave.”
