So, on 2022’s transgender day of remembrance, there was a mass shooting at a gay club which hosts drag shows (Colorado’s Q Club), which left 18 injured and 5 dead.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this is the direct result of the stark increase of transphobic and homophobic rhetoric and the demonization of drag queens in recent political campaigns.

Nor do I think it was a stretch to say that this was the desired outcome.

everyone is so desensitized.

there's been another attack on the queer community, shocker. 5 people are dead, and a bunch more injured. there was a mass shooting yesterday at a Colorado gay bar/nightclub.

and what do we see online?

I dunno about y'all, but everything I see is about party politics. "the liberals are gonna say trump caused it" "the Republicans need to own up for this" etc.

people. are. dead.

I don't care what side you're on. I don't care who you voted for.

people. are. dead.

why are we making it about politics? yes, I know, politicians have a tendency to rile crazy people up and these things do happen as a result sometimes.

but, may I remind you: PEOPLE. ARE. DEAD.

can we take one moment to just think about that? without comparing it to other shootings or whining about how it makes our political party look or how the "woke media" is showing it or how Republicans are reacting etc?

these are 5 people, with their own lives, with families, maybe with kids, who have been murdered on their day off just trying to enjoy some time at a nightclub. 18 more have been injured. plenty have been traumatized, and their local community torn apart.

this is not about politics.

yes, it's great if it's a turning point. but if we make it about politics from the get-go, when they haven't even said what the shooter's motive is, we completely ignore the lives that have been lost and the very real impact it has. we encourage the conspiracies that these shootings are staged and erase the victims because by making it political it puts it up for debate. it blinds us to the fact that PEOPLE. ARE. DEAD. because we're too busy worrying about who we voted for.

please, stop making everything about party lines. no, I don't expect this post to do anything. I just need to get it off my chest. people have been massacred and almost all I see of discussion is an argument about political affiliation and that's just not right. politicizing everything dehumanizes all of us. I'm not saying politics had no part in this, I have no way of knowing until the police release more information on the shooter, but for fucks sake can we care about the victims themselves just for a moment?

I'm gonna reblog this when I have time with the victims obituaries once they're out/once I find them.

Tumblr in particular seems to be a bit more empathetic, understandably given how the community here is. but, if you go just about anywhere else...

Its really wild to be hate crimed by other minorities because I have the audacity to wear rainbow they/them shoelaces. Like its happened three times in the past month; one of which was on my block.

I know I'm "making myself a target" by wearing a representation of refracted light. I've only been out to anyone since like December and I thought it might take longer.

Really never expected to get the "You better stay away from my 6 year old with that rainbow shit" while minding my own business on my way to work by people that hang out with my neighbor.

Idk why it's still sticking to me, but it is.

reddit removed two of my posts from r/crochet because I was “encouraging illegal activity.”

Which. Fair. I was explaining how easy it is to steal from Hobby Lobby.

They don’t have door sensors or barcodes, and I believe their overall security camera coverage is fake or shit. 

You see, when barcodes were invented, evangelicals were convinced it was the sign of the devil (or government tracking; hard to tell). The point is, Hobby Lobby doesn’t have bar codes to this day because the devil could jump in your belly button.

And if you don’t have barcodes, you CAN’T have door sensors because the devil could jump right up a vagina, and you could get impregnated with the antichrist, and Hobby Lobby would have to make a very difficult choice about their anti-contraception views. 

Oh, and they knowingly stole a fuckton of ancient artifacts, and the money they paid for those (not all stealing is just taking; sometimes money changes hands) funded fucking ISIS. 

So. If you’re intellectually curious. You can steal from Hobby Lobby REALLY EASILY.

I don't know where to put this but I think my family is being targeted. Just yesterday we woke up to a mail box in our pool, and today someone has slashed a hole into it. These actions are not something that can be an accident as our front yard is blocked by big bushes and the pool is surrounded by plant buckets on one side and our cars on the other side. I fear that this might be a hate crime as my family is Mexican and that this will evolve into something more intense. We have lived in this neighborhood for almost 20 years now, this is the first time that incidents like this have happened.
