The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner Published by: Park Row Books in association with @harlequinbooks Publication Date: March 2, 2021 Genre: Historical fiction | Mystery Read time: 7 days
The story of the three women in this book was a rollercoaster, that’s for sure. Each character is engaging and has their own flair that makes their plot line just as interesting as the next.
My only gripe is that I wish it could have been more fleshed out, more focus on one or the other (past or present). The mystique of the end, not knowing what happens fully makes my brain itch for more.
I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys stories from Gregorian London era, and especially when it’s women-centric.

Harlequin Closing Inkyard Press Imprint
Tumblr media
Another publisher is cutting back. Harlequin Trade Publishing announced yesterday that it is closing the Inkyard Press imprint and moving its titles to HarperCollins Children's Books, which it called "a difficult, strategic decision."
Harlequin cited "current market conditions" that have posed "a variety of challenges for the business, which has been acutely felt in the YA/Middle grade space with a shifting retail landscape, reduced distribution, and higher production costs in a price-sensitive segment. Inkyard titles will benefit from the synergies and streamlined processes as part of a larger children's division." The Inkyard Press publishing team will leave the company, effective August 1.
Inkyard Press, the Harlequin YA imprint that focused on commercial fiction, launched a middle-grade publishing program last year.

My valentines read this year was disappointing. It's a new money hot mess heiress fake dating her brother's rags to riches best friend to rebrand her image. And she was fat. . . I think. The cover model was, but nothing in the book described her as such.
There were no fake dating hijinks. None. They don't even really fake date they do three fake "dates".
The whole reason she fake dates him is because she is trying to look okay because she ended her engagement to her old money billionaire ex months earlier, and a gossip blog [] her for it. The billionaire ex never comes back. The blog only writes 2 articles about her and new guy. There's no real threat that the fake relationship will ever be found out.
The brother is a stickler for them not being together, but he's out of the country so he's only a hindrance mentally. All the friends know they aren't together for real but know if her crush.
The only hijink they do is go to a couples house for dinner after the fake dating ended.
If I'm going to read fake dating, I need hijinks and taut situations. Fake dating does not work with no hijinks. And it especially doesn't work because it didn't feel pertinent to the plot until the dinner with the older couple.
Also, when your book character is fat, I need to know it explicitly. I'm not asking for self-deprecation or someone else stating it negatively or positively. Just somewhere in the text so I know I'm reading about someone fat, and I wasn't fatfished into reading a book about a skinny woman.

REVIEW
Dragged to the Wedding by Andrew Grey
Fairytale feel to a fake-date trope in which a couple goes to a family wedding. The relationship is fake, the girlfriend is not a girl, the boyfriend is not into girls, and the family is Montana conservative. There are secrets to keep, problems to solve, a wedding to save, family drama, and a come-out for one character that was not as he had ever planned it to be.
NOTES:
* This was an easy-to-read, quick-paced, fun frolic with some big issues alluded to and some that were tackled.
* I loved Daniel-Daniella-Lala in all of his appearances. He was wise, aware, knew himself, took no guff, and was also caring, kind, generous, and a person anyone would want as a friend.
* James, the brother of the bride, grew quite a bit in the story and began to come into his own. I loved his interactions with his sisters and how he became more aware of himself and others.
* Holly and her fiancé were good people and so was little sister Margot.
* Grace, mother of the bride, was someone that may have had a good heart lurking somewhere underneath all of her commandments, expectations, and pushiness…maybe.
* Phillip, father of the groom was…a bit nebulous but spoke his mind from time to time.
* Weston was someone I would never want to meet…anywhere
* Interesting and sometimes “unbelievable” but eye opening and made me think
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? I think so
Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Adores for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
BLURB
The Wedding Date meets The Birdcage in this laugh-out-loud gay romantic comedy from Andrew Grey He’s here to slay…but will he stay? James Petika is living the single gay life he always wanted. A police officer in Chicago, he has a good job, good friends—and he’s two thousand miles away from his family’s expectations. He also needs a date for his sister’s wedding in Missoula, Montana, but his family has no idea that he’s gay, and he’d like to keep it that way. The solution? Daniel Bonafonte aka Lala Traviata, the queen of the Chicago drag scene. Lala is the real she can sing, she can dance—and she can throw more shade than a solar eclipse. One drink and plenty of dishing later, Daniel agrees to help James out and be his incognito date to the wedding. Daniel’s drag-diva skills are put to the test right away, with the bride’s ill-fitting wedding dress, a groom who’s a danger on the dance floor and more drama than auditions for a gay men's chorus. Faking this relationship—and ignoring the very real feelings developing between them—might just be the performance of their lives.
