Soooo…. I have been inspired and I drew a thing! As you guys know, I love Barnaby and I’ve been obsessed with him for a while and even made a ask blog where you can ask him questions and I’d draw a picture, responding to the question as Barnaby! So, I was reading facts about him the other day and it said….
Tumblr media
I was wondering how or what Barnaby does to handle these types of situations where people want to die of old age, since he doesn’t have any time related powers. That’s when I realized: Barnaby needs a little assistant to help him murder his party guests!
So, I’d like to introduce you all to my first BBU OC, Bartholomew the bat!
(Psssst! If you turn him upside down and look at his face, ignore the ears, you’ll see a little Easter egg in the outline of the head! Could that be the outline of Barnaby’s head?!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would’ve liked to choose a time related name for him, but Bartholomew was his WIP name and…. I think his name fits him quite well!
Now, Bartho here has Time magic. I had to come up with all of this from scratch, since the game isn’t out yet and no time related characters have been revealed, but basically, Bartho can manipulate time on himself and on others. He can make himself and others look and feel any age he wants, using his magic, he has technically found a way to make himself immortal by rewinding time on himself, as a result, he has lived countless lives, so his backstory can be anything you want! If you can think it, he’s probably lived it!
(This makes him kinda OP, i know, but I honestly can’t think of any drawbacks to this power, so if you have a suggestion, feel free to leave a comment!)
When Bartho went to go join Barnaby’s party, Bartho surprised Barnaby by saying that he wanted all the deaths that Barnaby could possibly think of. Barnaby questioned it of course, but when Bartho explained what he could do, I’d like to imagine that Barnaby probably had a heart attack out of joy! XD
Compared to Barnaby, Bartho is extremely tiny! About the size of a mouse! Barnaby can definitely eat him, if he wanted to!
I’d like to think that he is a clockmaker who loves clocks and watches and loves to fix them!
One of my favorite ideas I’ve come up for Bartho is that when he sleeps, he sways from side to side like a pendulum on a clock!
Concept art tiiime!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were Bartho’s concepts, and they’re not pretty. I was going to post these the other day, but after looking at them some more, I decided that I wasn’t happy with either of them, and needed to go back to the drawing board and make something that I’m actually happy with! And yes, Bartho did have a tail at one point, but I quickly scrapped that idea, created a inspirational board on Pinterest, and tried to get inspired. The things that inspired Bartho’s design is Steampunk, clocks, other bat OCs, actual bats, furries, Halloween, autumn, and Of course, Barnaby!
Tumblr media
I would have loved to have this somewhere on Bartho’s ghost design, but alas, I wanted it to be as easy to draw as Barnaby is, adding this would complicate things a lot. So I opted for a finished hourglass, signaling that his time alive is finished and that he has no need to keep track of time anymore. Because he can’t keep track of time in his ghost form, Bartho prefers to stay alive, but isn’t afraid of death, since he can just rewind time on himself. (Yay!!! My version of time magic is broken and OP! LOL!)
Before you guys ask, yes, you may make art of Bartho, just credit me as the creator of Bartho and show me if you do decide to draw them! I’d love to see! Oh! And tag it with #Bartho bat, that way I could find it easier!

💖 if is ok ... AND for u: I love your gijinkas they're so good. They have like this vibe where. I could absolutely see them in a show or something. I also like your depiction of Reshiram where she is not totally high and mighty and can even be unsure of herself at times even though she is a deity. She is a really well rounded character and I wanna see what happens!! Also Zapdos is a fun you. You also get bonus points from me for featuring a Gothitelle it's my favorite Pokémon :D
dhdjjsjxjsjsbd You are too freaking sweet whAT?! This was meant to be for everyone else and here you are typing out a whole paragraph for me?! This made my night when I was on my break omg the idea that all my characters stand out so much just make me so happy aaa I’m glad Reshi comes off so well too!!! Just thank you so much?(Also Gothitelle was totally unplanned!!! It was thanks to @/life-of-kalos during easter past year that I got a random egg!)
But however onto youuu! I just have to mention how LOVELY your art is like omg??? Its so so satisfying to look at with the shape language you use and the way you design your characters really stand out!! I loved reading through your other blog so much omg, the way you show your characters interacting are so much fun and really draw the reader in! And then starting this blog it is just…so so good so far omg. I looove seeing your Tapu Fini interact with everyone all grumpy like XD it’s such a fun concept for a blog and I adore it! I loved how irritated he was at Zapdos XD i laughed so hard reading that response it was so so perfect. Everything you create is so cool honestly and I always wanna watch and read your work! Keep it up because you’ve got a big fan on this side of the community :D

Can I ask what's in the Guilty Tears AU because I want to see it, but I don't want to scar myself if it's genuinely something horrible.
To put it very simply, it's a series of videos, one based of each Side and related to them, in which things happen. They may seem random, but the more you move forward, the more you notice details, connections and easter eggs, both from the series and from canon.
The plot is never openly specified. You know there is something going on, but it's up to you to find all details and connect the pieces. You can make your own theories on what's happening, what does it mean, what is the purpose and so on. Is it a nightmare? Is it something more? It's up to you to find it out.
So it's basically like other youtube horror stories/analog stories: each video offers you another piece of the puzzle, you should put them together. It's a lot of fun - and the horror addition makes everything more interesting.
Speaking of the video, they may contain loud souds, distortions, body horror, jumpscares and especially disturbing imageries. In any case, every video starts with a big content warning, so you already know what kind of disturbing material you will find inside it.
If you like horror/analog horror stories/creepypasta and similar but you're not brave (so basically like me), my advice is to watch the first episode during the day, in a peaceful place like your home or your bedroom, when there's sun outside and you can sit close to a window: you will feel the sun on you and the open space will reassure you that everything is fine.
If you want to know more about the styles and the project in general before starting, I also suggest a visit to @not-exactly-laborious blog, so you will see some "behind the scenes" and how some props were made: it helps, because it puts a lot of unsettling details under a more understandable light.
And if all of this isn't enough and you're still scared, don't worry. It's okay to be scared of things, not all people like horror after all XD and this fandom has a lot more to offer, so be happy and safe, kay? ;)

tyguhnijok viva procrastination! gbhnjmk,lp.ñ-   l’DDD
Heeeeey guyz~! It’s been a while since I roamed around on my blog, although I have a lingering feeling like I was here just yesterday. I kind’of find it hard to believe that weeks had flied in a blur since ever and that I totally lost track of the time! Of course, it was not my intention to leave all of a sudden. and I do really hope that my temporary absence hadn’t alerted anyone, but if it did, then I apologize for that. .3.”
To sum everything up, I merely got caught up in watching a series called “Murdoch’s Mysteries” a month ago. It’s not an anime, but a Canadian mystery drama television series. I immediately got hooked on as soon as I saw some randomish episodes on TV then hoped on laptop to watch the rest of all available seasons online :’> It even has some brief scenes featuring the inspector and his wife that resemble Salphys here and there, and I really loved it a lot  X’D Geez, those 13 seasons sure felt so long and draining to watch! So proud of completing it and already awaiting for another season! <333
-
Anyway, I finally took my time to answer a mountain of quizzes that had been in the corner for months under the cut~ Again, thank you a skele-ton for bearing with me! Also, where you are, quarantined or not, please stay safe and take care of your health! Don’t forget to wash hands too! Because your life matters the most! To every centimeter of bone! <3
-
Tumblr media
Thank you so much! Your kind words mean a lot to me!
I never imagined that, since the beginning, the creation of this humerus ship would bring so much joy and fun which it did for multiple times~
Even if I’m not as very motivated as I was before, I still sell my soul filled with love to these so-nerdy characters. This nostalgic thing made me realize how much I wanna draw so many things with them again all over the place. Especially playing tricks on each other  ;w;  -
Tumblr media
It’s alright, nonnie you aren’t the only one :’D
Admittedly I hardly update these days, so I assure you it’s pretty okay if you fail to remember it at all, plus the story itself. Heck, if it were me, then I’d not be able to remember every comic nor movie unless I check them out properly. XD -
Tumblr media
Heh :3 Assuming it was related to the latest Timetale update, then thanks :3  -
Tumblr media
Those cheesy beans~~ Q 3 Q -
Tumblr media
Gotta Cheeto Fatsts!  -
Tumblr media
Aww! ygurtyuyuiopi I’m flattered :D I’m glad you love my style~
Surprisingly, I never thought I would end up loving Alphys more and more, after I started designing her for the first time. Initially I really thought she’d be nothing but a boring and ugly traitor, too much for my taste, or that she’d not be that important for the story plots but my interest had shifted and changed quickly after some time and persistence, ironic eh?  :’3
Yah, sounds like Alphys literally had sort of cosmetic surgery LOL  x3  -
Tumblr media
Nothing better than being stuck in my own faboo-paradise-like isolation where I have almost everything I love~ <3 Actually, thanks to my introvert powers, it never kills me nor stress me emotionally at all -amen-. Aside from working home, I don’t have any problem coping with that during the pandemic :’3
I wish you the same too!
#StayHome -
Tumblr media
Oh, don’t worry too much about that.  Your sincerity is very appreciated! :D Truth be told, I agree it isn’t always easy to see the other side of ours and flaws.
We all overstep our boundaries sometimes too. I myself still have troubles in being supportive as well, but I do what I can just to make everyone ‘happy panda’. We’re humans after all. The more we learn from our mistakes, the better we become. At least, you did the right thing and I admire you for that. Don’t think I’d ever have that courage loool. :> -
Tumblr media
I’m still leaning into believing that our gov did a good job and that they managed to implement a lot of strict restrictions and ordinances, such social distancing, suspending transportation and closing any activities to prevent the crowd gatherings, except supermarkets and pharmacies that are only open.
Frankly, I think they executed that action a little bit too late. If only they listened the warning back in January-February, then we’d be much safer and well prepared. We probably won’t reach the peak until after Easter, but we will have to wait and see what happens next.
Given the fact that the healthcare system is poor compared to other countries, we do still hope that it gets somewhat worked out so the situation here won’t take a turn for the worse like one from Italy or USA. We already have over 4.400, a great number of people in self-isolation and quarantine, some still getting arrested for fleeing and disobeying, and, from the look of it, the toll of death isn’t definitively a good sign either if you ever ask me. Not to mention, there’s still quite a lot of them not being aware of it... -
Tumblr media
.... Maybe  :P Better not become “Chara-virus” then infect all monsters  l’D -
Tumblr media
Nice personal shipping preference^^
I wouldn’t be surprised if some fans actually do that, and that, regardless of sexual orientation, Alphys would be strait shipped with other females or males, beside Undyne.  -
Tumblr media
Thanks for the kind comment^^
Yeah lol Sansy loves everything about her~  :>
What a lucky hus-bean, isn’t he~?  uwu -
Tumblr media
Oh gosh, don’t you ever dare break m’soul! Or else I’mma criiii  :’<<<  -

The Best Easter Ever
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kwon Soonyoung x reader
Genre: oh you know this is gonna be fluffy and cliché as hell
Warnings: none
A/N: Happy Good Friday everyone! You know, the blog is going to appear like we’re all up to some bunny good fun but in reality I’m not celebrating it at all (totally waiting for the Easter chocolate to go on half price come Tuesday though XD). Easter gave me an excuse to write something really cute with Soonyoung, who I really don’t write enough for though so I hope you enjoy this!
Word count: 1351
This is part of a mini-collab, An Easter Collab To Dye For. From today until Easter Monday @this-song-thats-only-for-you and I will be sharing two stories each. Please check out tomorrow for what else is in store!
Tumblr media
If anyone could survive your family at Easter time, they were a keeper. Sure, Christmas was a big ordeal for your family too, generally it was Easter where the crazy came out. You weren’t a large family but when you could gather together, you would. And Easter was normally the perfect time to do so.
“Are you really sure you want to come?” you asked hesitantly, even as Soonyoung put his duffle bag into the back of your car. You didn’t close the door, leaving him ample access to remove his belongings.
And run, far away.
Your boyfriend chuckled and ruffled your hair affectionately. “You don’t want your family to meet me?”
“Of course I do, I mean, we’ve been dating for months now it’d practically be a disservice not to take you home with me. But we can do that another time. Like at my birthday or just some random, perfectly sane and calm weekend instead.”
“Your family can’t be that bad. You can’t tell me they’re any worse than my roommates Seungkwan and Seokmin. You know how crazy they can get. Your family will be a walk in the park for me compared.” He placed his hands on your shoulders and smiled before kissing your forehead. “Would you please stop worrying and close the back of the car up so we can go? You’re going to get wrinkles over absolutely nothing.”
Creased skin was the least of your concerns, yet you closed the trunk of the vehicle and went around to the driver’s side, letting out a sigh before turning on the ignition.
You really hoped you didn’t come home boyfriend-less after this.
Tumblr media
When you finally arrived at your family home, you smiled weakly at Soonyoung before clambering out, stretching your legs. You then moved to the back of the car where your boyfriend nudged you lightly. “You told me it’s crazy decked out here in Easter decorations. Are you sure we’re at the right address? There’s not a giant egg in sight.”
“We’re here the day before my parents put them out. They told me they would wait for our arrival for extra hands.”
“That’s a good idea,” he agreed, shouldering his bag and then reaching for yours. “It’s pretty quiet. From how much you talked this up, I was expecting a welcome wagon or something.”
“Oh, it’s coming,” you told him, your smile strained. “In three, two…”
“Welcome to our eggs-traordinary abode my little bunnies!” a voice boomed and you spun to see your father there.
“Told you,” you mentioned to Soonyoung before moving forward to hug your paternal figure. You glanced up at the hat on his head and smiled. “Are we having a Mad Hatter tea party this year?”
“You betcha kiddo. Only the best for my daughter and her boyfriend. We’ve got to officially bring you into the family as one of us.”
Soonyoung chuckled as he held out his hand at your father, who avoided it and hugged him instead. “It’s nice to meet you, sir.”
“Sir?! There will be none of that up in here. Call me Dad.”
“Dad!” you cried, shaking your head quickly. “You can’t just ask Soonyoung to-”
“What, he’s going to become one of us, isn’t he?”
“Of course I am!” Soonyoung cheered and grinned back at you. “That’s why I’m here, right? To meet the family.”
“That’s the spirit, son. You know, I always wanted a son. I’m lumped with daughters,” your father told Soonyoung dramatically as he took him up towards the house and you rolled your eyes at his usual antics. Your Dad spun around to shoot you a sweet look. “Even though I just love you, a son would be nice!”
“You have a son-in-law already,” your mother told your father at the doorway before leaning in to kiss Soonyoung on the cheek lightly. “It’s so nice to finally meet you, Soonyoung.”
“Likewise. Do I call you Mum or-”
“Of course you do son, you’re a part of us now, remember!” your Dad enthused and you turned to close the front door with a sigh.
Here we go.
Tumblr media
Admittedly, the first day was pretty quiet. Your sisters weren’t home yet and so you got to have your parents to just you and Soonyoung. It was actually pretty endearing watching their interactions too. Your Mum swooned over his boyish charms much like you had months ago, and your Dad was persistent in finding something in common with him. Dinner was delicious and they had only sprung one of the board games on you both to play that always came out during family gatherings. The laughter was still ringing in your ears as you got ready for bed and after the travelling you had done all day to get here, you were feeling pretty exhausted.
As you settled into your old bed next to Soonyoung, he kissed the side of your head tenderly. “I like your parents.”
“They like you too.”
“I seriously don’t get why you were so worried.”
“The crazy hasn’t happened yet,” you mumbled, nestling in further. “Tomorrow there will be eggs to dye, chocolates to make, decorations to put up. And then in the weekend when my sister comes with her children, there will be the Egg Hunt and then Dad will really be in his element. Bunny costume and all. Oh, and on Sunday we’ll have the tea party to look forward to as well. I’m exhausted just thinking about it all.”
“Are you embarrassed by your Dad?” Soonyoung asked and you frowned, looking up at your boyfriend whilst shaking your head. “Really? You seemed to dread coming here this week. Meanwhile, he’s literally glowing from the anticipation of what’s to come.”
“I love how excited he gets. It’s the one time of the year where he gets all of us girls home for days on end. Where no other family or commitments can take us away early. He’s like this because he misses us.”
“Then why did you talk it up like it’d be a great inconvenience for me?”
You sat up and Soonyoung joined you, taking your hand in his. “I watched my older sisters bringing home guys to meet the family. They’d do it at different times of the year, never at Easter. And when they had been dating for some time, Easter would just naturally arrive. Several relationships broke up and I could always remember them crying and saying it was because our traditions were overbearing.”
“You made this into such a big deal to me to see if I would back out?” Soonyoung concluded and you nodded.
“I figured if I was ever going to bring home someone, the best time was now. If you could survive Easter at my side, then we could do anything together. My sister who is married even told me if you lasted Easter here then you were a keeper.”
“You needed this experience here to confirm that?” he teased and you pouted.
“As I said, you haven’t experienced the crazy yet.”
“Your Dad showed me the storage room before,” he mentioned and your eyes darted towards Soonyoung, widening with what secrets that room held. He grinned. “I got a taste of what’s to come.”
“And you don’t want to run away? That giant blow up basket takes up the entire front lawn, you know.”
“I actually asked if your Dad had a spare bunny costume. I think he teared up a little.”
You leaned over to kiss Soonyoung, smiling when you pulled away. “I’m starting to think this might be the best Easter yet.”
“Because you get to see your sexy boyfriend as a bunny with the cutest cottontail?” Soonyoung wondered cheekily, and you shook your head. “Hey, I can make that outfit cute and sexy, just you wait!”
“You sound just like my Dad, you know!” you laughed and Soonyoung nodded happily.
“He told me I was already family to him after that. And isn’t that what you wanted?”
You nodded as well, leaning in to kiss him again. “It is, and that’s why it’ll be the best Easter ever.”

— have you ever…
6. dated someone twice: Nope
7. kissed someone and regretted it: Nada
8. been cheated on: Negatory

18. found out someone was talking about you: Yes but so far not in a bad way?
19. met someone who changed you: I think everyone you meet changes you, but yeah I can think of a good few.
20. found out who your friends are: I love how this assumes we all constantly get ourselves embroiled in toxic relationships we have to discover aren’t true. Like, I am way too cautious in initiating relationships for that. It may happen, but not yet. I’ve got good friends and I love them.
21. kissed someone on your facebook friends list: Ew. No.
— general
22. how many of your facebook friends do you know irl: Most all of them, but most of them not very well.

32. something that’s getting on your nerves: Supergirl’s deeply flawed existence is a constant mood, and I’m having frustrations with a relationship that I don’t know how to solve. :/
33. most visited website: Youtube and Tumblr are probably about equal.
34. hair colour: Hehe wouldn’t you like to know. <<I second Ponty. ;) ;)
35. long or short hair: Longish. Thinking about getting it cut, but idk how short.
36. do you have a crush on someone: I get friend crushes a lot. Like I fall hopelessly in love with somebody, but not in a romantic way, just in a “I want to hang out with you and do dumb fun stuff together because you seem so cool” sort of way.
37. what do you like about yourself: I always seem to answer these the same way, but whatever? I like my (semi dormant?? ha) creativity, and that I’m usually a pretty patient, forgiving person. That might sound weird, or bragging, but it’s not something that comes without practice, so I think it’s okay for me to like/be proud of that.
38. want any piercings: I’ve been saying I should get my ears pierced for like ten years now.
39. blood type: I honestly have no idea, why don’t they give you this information when you get a copy of your birth certificate, or have a check-up? Seems kinda important. XD
40. nicknames: Here? “Rags” and many variations thereof. I also have a lot of nicknames irl but a lot of them have kind of petered out of usage.

42. sign: Aquarius I think but it has no relevance so.
43. pronouns: she/her
44. fave tv show: Fringe or White Collar or Psych maybe.
45. tattoos: I don’t have any, but if I ever got one, it’d be Needtobreathe lyrics.
46. right or left handed: Right. Which is funny because in the artistic circles I run in, I’ve often been the odd one out. XD
47. ever had surgery: I split my head open once. That explains a lot. ;)
48. piercings: Noooone
49. sport: BASEBALL
50. vacation: NYC (literally just to see shows) or the mountains somewhere or Europe, particularly Edinburgh and London. And anywhere honestly on the East coast of this country, because it’s so rich in history.
51. trainers: Shoes, right? Or people who have trained me?? I’m confused. I buy from Payless. I like Converse but who can afford them. XD I’d rather wear something sensible but stylish anyway, and the one shoe I actually care about is Oxfords. I want me a pair of Oxfords.
— more general
52. eating: I am so hungry. I’m going to swing by a cafe and eat because I have a freebie there. But generally, I love pasta and pizza and eggs and toast for breakfast. And fruit.
53. drinking: Water, tea, orange juice, Pepsi.
54. I’m about to watch: I have a bunch of things in my Youtube “watch later” list, including some talks by Jason Robert Brown. Oh! I’m going to rewatch Doctor Strange with some of my favorite peeps tonight. ^_^
55. waiting for: “Schott Through the Heart” and Lion King again. Also, the lunch rush to pass before I go to the cafe.
56. want: Actual furniture in my bedroom. It’s beginning to bother me. I just want a little desk, a little shelf, and a little nightstand like thing. I can wait longer for a proper bed.
57. get married: Maybe someday. I’m not seeking it out right now. :)
58. career: I’ve just started my first job in a theater, and though it’s not with the production process itself, I am loving it, and hoping to move backstage sometime soon. I want to have a career in theater, probably as a writer or at least writing scripts/novels on the side.

59. hugs or kisses: hugs
60. lips or eyes: eyes
61. shorter or taller: shorter?

64. hookup or relationships: relationships. 100%. <<amen
65. troublemaker or hesitant: In a relationship?? Hesitant, I guess, if it means they/you are being careful and serious.
— have you ever
66. kissed a stranger: Nope
67. drank hard liquor: No why would i put myself through that miserable experience lol <<<saaaaame

73. cried when someone died: Yes.
74. fallen for a friend: Again, no. Although idealistically that’s a cool way to go. :)
— do you believe in
75. yourself: To a healthy extent, I think. I believe in other things more, but I definitely believe in what I ought to be doing and how I have to work to do. I’ve gained a lot of self-confidence in the past four years, kind of a totally different person now - thank heaven.
76. miracles: I see them all the time.
77. love at first sight: Ish? Appreciation/attraction/clicking immediately can happen, and that can grow into love.
78. santa claus: He exists in every way that counts.
79. angels: Yes.
— misc
80. eye colour: Wouldn’t you like to knoooooow. ;) Idk, it’s probably in another tag/ask post I’ve done on here somewhere lol.
81. best friend’s name: I don’t know that I have one exact best friend rn. There are a handful of individuals I am super close to, and people I know I can tell anything to, and people I just love to hang out with, and I always want to make them happy. <3
82. favourite movie: Newsies Live. It counts, and I know for a fact I have watched it more than any other movie so there.
83. favourite actor: Jeremy Jordan. (woooooowwwww shooockkkerrrrrr)
84. favourite cartoon: Tangled: the Series, and Trollhunters. (Those count, right?) I didn’t watch a lot of traditional cartoons growing up. Just Disney movies.
85. favourite teacher’s name: If I say anyone other than my amazing mother who homeschooled me and my siblings, I’d have to say: Clint. He taught me how to play guitar, and he was pretty fantastic as a role model too. I loved being his student, even if I was too withdrawn at the time to properly take advantage of it or show my appreciation for him.

August 21st: Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day
This idea is fantastic and I want to support it as best I can.  I’m constantly amazed that you guys take your free time to provide this for us; so this is quite literally the least I can do!  There’s a lot more below~~~~~~
I wish I had the time today to reread everyone’s work; AND to read everything I haven’t yet.  You all deserve pages and pages of praise; I’m sorry this is all I can do today.  In roughly the order in which they were originally consumed:
@claudeng80 Even if it hadn’t been my fanfic introduction (If you don’t count watching GoT), Noble AU would still hold a special place in my heart.  Honestly everything you’ve done is amazing.  I still haven’t made it through the RIDICULOUS amount of happy you made for us during bingo.  And that’s not even considering the ones I DID get to that I want to reread ASAP (omg that fairytale obi dragon one).  And of course Snowdrop~~~  No words~~~~  I even enjoy the stuff you do that is outside my wheelhouse *cough* star trek.  Plus, Akagami on the Bayou is literally perfection.
@sabraeal It’s lovely to see someone who is so talented spend so much time appreciating and supporting others.  The comments/reviews that you (and Joanna and Andi) leave in the community are literally as entertaining as the stories.  That said, obviously now I’m going to mention Seven Suitors because duh.  It is Canon But Better and I hope there isn't a sekrit counter somewhere that shows how many times Ive read it....maybe even with the Haki B-sides inserted timeline appropriately~~~~  And I don’t have enough time to get into Truth In Masquerade (Or In Which There Will be Ascots; yup, I’m pretty sure that was promised, even if it was just in my head it still counts), modern AU, OFC fae AU (why am I capitalizing AU?), high school, daemons, the kiss of life (I may think about randomly at times) all the bb obi backstory stuff, the amazing haki stuff, and the one shots!  Your 100 prompts was frankly, astonishing, and during a Very Bad Time for me.  It was so amazing to have something like that to escape to.  This workings of this site remain a bit of a mystery to me; things that are original and amazing frequently get missed or ignored; and a picture of a shoe with a cat in it like breaks the internet?
@superhappybubbleslove again with the “someone who is so talented spends so much time appreciating and supporting others” For me, watchtower is like “Uncomfortable RL Canon but Won’t Ever be Canon Because Shoujo”  You do such an astonishing job of like Easter Egg Multi Level Pains.  As if the over-arching pain isn’t enough; there are little poison barbs expertly sprinkled in specially designed for the utmost torment.  Of all the pains (main story pains; not touching the B-SIDE pains because I’m still recovering from Friday) the little ones stick with me the most.  Ugh, that part where he drops the spoons is honestly like the worst for me…..I’ve just upset myself again.  And likewise with the I REALLY REALLY don’t want to know my reread count xD  I don’t have the time to even get started on what Melt, the Mountain Lion au, and everything else deserves.  (Like, I’m still kind of angry about how much I enjoy the ballet au - I mean wut?!)
@infinitelystrangemachinex your commentary is ALWAYS +100~  Automation Heart……I love your Shirayuki so much.  She’s always a science badass.  And the chemistry with Obi, LITERALLY no matter what the set up, is ALWAYS perfect.  I’m not comfortable admitting 1. how many times I have read Analysand 2. how many times I then REREread it when you did Overflow — also rereading Overflow obviously and 3. How many times I read St Elmos Fire once I finally realized I hadn’t read it.  Let’s just leave it at….a lot….  There are still a few things from last year I haven’t gotten to; someone might point out that I MAYBE would’ve had more than enough time to read those I had I skipped a rererereread or two….don’t pester me with your logics~  I’m sure they are equally amazing; I can’t wait to get to them!
@nebluus Apparently I’ve missed a few things on the classic “you must read” obiyuki lists.  However, I have at least read Blizzard.  ~~~~A FEW times.  It most definitely belongs on the list.  Everything about it is perfect.  Ugggh….the part about how he would be a great father… “Are you the fire Obi?”  Dead.  Even though no true relationship stuffs happens it literally kills me every time.
@xaphrin sometimes I worry from your tumblrs you don’t understand how awesome you are; but then I think surely you see how many people tell you your awesome….right?!?!  I can be a little bit of a cinnamon bun when it comes to reading sexy times, but I feel like you always try (nay succeed) to include it as part of the Whole Relationship.  AND AND AND can we talk about how phone sex AU obi is. the. hottest. obi.  Which is so weird…I mean if someone would’ve told me I’d love “phone sex” au I would’ve rolled my eyes.   BUT ITS SO GREAT.  And obviously diplomacy.  OBVIOUSLY.
@ruleofexception for me you are like a box of cakes.  (real talk, some chocolates are gross, all cake is delicious)  “dead obi with oxygen shirayuki” nuuu please don’t do that….omg that was amazing.  Hunger games?!?!?….moar pls all of the hunger games.  Disembodied voices??…..amazing yes please (I loved Knowing You so much!!!).  Whew and there are many things I haven’t yet said about Fall of the Crown….but I super love it’s gothic feels and I am super excite~~  (The knife naming/giving?!?!!)  And you have more I haven’t even gotten to yet; I can’t wait~
@akai-vampire you take the bare-bones of canon and breath life into it~  When the smallest obiyuki bit happens, my initial reaction is “oh god nina will make me pay for this shortly”  Late at Night is so lovely; I feel like “what happened if Shirayuki didn’t make it out” isn’t explored much~  And omg that blurted confession in Dreams…..  And honestly, if you seriously SERIOUSLY get to 50 in “The Fifty Times You Stole My Heart” you WILL kill me.  It’s only at 6 and I can barely make it now~~~ Srs.  All of it.
@vivianwisteria okay, the “how Obi and Shirayuki met as kids” canon mystery is ongoing…  However, the way you handled it in Adagio Appassionato is my absolute favorite~  (Canon needs to retcon Violin Shirayuki if Sorata ever actually gives us the backstory there.)  I love it so much that when you dropped that bomb chapter I MAY have put off a serious work assignment to go reread everything IMMEDIATELY.   I LOVE all of Conductor Obi with Issues so much~ Okay, and Love and Other Monstrosities I mean WUT.  There are no other words for that…just WUT WUT WUT!!! Whew, and Impasse, the Damon Lindelof (but better) bad guys here are very mysterious and exciting.  And OF COURSE I love found in translation…. And obviously I am SO VERY EXCITE about Ex Gratia~
@jaygirl987 The “worldbuilding” for Neighbors is astounding.  For srs, you have fleshed out Bruce, THE CAT, more than most fiction manages to with human side characters.  I literally can not wait to see where this goes; everyone’s been established so beautifully.  I adore your obiyuki relationship one-shots as well.  I can’t wait to catch up on the bingo stories I missed!!!!
@meibemeibelline I haven’t finished all of Apple Red and Gold yet…I REALLY need to make a obiyuki “to read” list post it note.  However, I did get to Counting Coins and Motel on the Hill during Bingo.  I LOVE your storytelling.  Your descriptions and atmosphere are wonderful.  Counting Coins was adorable, plus Obi as a hot teacher yes please.  Motel on the Hill is so lovely~~~  It’s beautifully melancholy.  I can’t wait to read the rest; I’m sorry it’s taken me this long!!
@codango obviously the road to Clarines is gravel is amazing.  You succeeded where 18 years of my real life experience did not…you made the cowboy aesthetic attractive~  I adore your characterization of EVERYONE in this and I’ve been super excited for every chapter.  Seriously, the individual elements should not appeal to me, but your skill and ability made them in to something I love.
@glitter-and-golden  Okay, I never knew that I needed a mithra obi, BUT I DID.  If I Walk It's With You Beside Me is a pleasure to read~  SO, I’m also a sucker for fictional food; and after I read this the first time I totally had to eat breakfast for dinner~  I love everything about this, Ryuu, their cottage, Zen, sassy mithra Obi.  I am so excite!
OMG this was supposed to be faster… -.- I’m past out of time, so please forgive my abbreviated loves:
@onoheiwa  - both your kiss stories were absolutely adorable~~ And I loved the amusement park; Obi’s disappointment when the park was closed was perfect.  I can’t wait to read the rest of your stuff!!
@krispy-kream - I loved haki as the amyrlin and izana as forsaken SO MUCH.  My memories of early WoT are mixed to say the least….If you want to go ahead and redo all the early books I’d be %100 on board with that.
@another-miracle - your intermissions are beautiful~  your prose is also lovely in general,  I’m so sorry I’m behind!!!  I’m VERY MUCH looking forward to reading everything you’ve given us~
@littleaverill - your role reversal au was great~~~  I love the idea of obi growing up in the shop~ I can only imagine how he’d be different.  I REALLY love your style; there’s an element of the unknown and the implied that always leaves me like I just had a piece of cake that was EVER SO SLIGHTLY smaller that I would’ve cut myself — super delicious but if you even want to send me another slice I’d be okay with it! xD
@nonstopdoodle - The Spice of Life was so cute!   Ryuu as AI was perfect~~  There was something very nostalgically Firefly about it that I loved so much~  And just ftr, your ponies are SO SO SO CUTE
@rebeccaravenroth - okay, the balcony-plants story for bingo was so adorable.  I am fluent in passive aggressive post it notes.  I adore your writing style and storytelling~
I’m sorry I left out a few AO3 people that I don’t know their Tumblr blog name or may not be on Tumblr!!!

Sonic Mania Review
So it's been about three weeks since the release of Mania on consoles, and with the PC version finally out, I've decided to finally set down and write my own review of the long, highly anticipated game called Sonic Mania! I must apologize for not writing something on my blog in a while, and I've decided to write a review on a game from my own personal favorite gaming franchise. I must warn you, if you haven't played the game yet and don't want to get spoiled, I suggest you don't read my review.
Tuesday August 15th, I woke up excited to be able to finally play Sonic Mania! Ever since the announcement trailer last year, I've been eagerly waiting to play such a gorgeous looking Sonic game! So at 9:59, I fired up my Xbox One and waited that one minute to finally be able to launch the game! That minute was one of the longest minutes of my life, and I truly do feel sorry for those who had to wait even longer for the PC release. Once I launched the game, I was greeted with that familiar "SEGA!!" chant that many of us have heard many times growing up, that is if you grew up with the Genesis (or Mega Drive if you live outside North America) titles. I smirked upon seeing the Sega logo, and hearing that all too familiar sound. Then came the awesome title screen, which was previously shown to us about a year or so ago. It was just amazing to finally be able to see that in person, with my own two eyes! I didn't press any button as the title screen stated, instead I waited for the intro to play, as I didn't watch it when the official Sonic the Hedgehog channel on Youtube uploaded it just a day prior to release.
The intro was gorgeous! The music, made by Hyper Potions, the group behind the promotional trailer music, was beautiful and catchy at the same time! The cutscenes were animated well, and reminded me of the cutscenes from Sonic CD, though in better quality of course! Seeing Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in their classic styles made me feel like a kid again, and I almost teared up. It was awesome seeing the three run through different zones, each which of course appeared in the game itself. (See that's why I didn't want to watch the trailer, I didn't want to get spoiled myself!) Once the cutscene was done, it was finally time to play Sonic Mania!
The game starts you off at a familiar place, on the Tornado, if you play as Sonic and or Tails, and they're on their way to Angel Island Zone. As Knuckles, you're just chilling and relaxing like the intro in Sonic and Knuckles. (Though he's chilling in Angel Island of course, not Mushroom Hill. Which btw, that level doesn't appear in this game.) Both run into Dr. Eggman with some Egg Robos, who dig up a purple emerald, which is called the "Phantom Ruby", that warps the enemies and players to a revised Green Hill Zone. The egg robos from Angel Island have also been affected by the Phantom Ruby, and now take on the form of the "Hard-Boiled Heavies"! From there, the player can finally start their adventure in Sonic Mania! Green Hill Zone was one of the three levels shown very early in development. Honestly, I wasn't too thrilled to see Green Hill Zone yet again but it's the most iconic Sonic level. When someone mentions Sonic, the other person most likely will remember running through Green Hill Zone in the first game. I can see why the level was included in the game. Now it's not identical to the original Green Hill we all know, of course every level that returned in Mania has different graphics and gimmicks that make it a new experience for the player. Plus playing as Knuckles will start you off in a different area than playing as Sonic and or Tails, which changes up the level. Not to mention that there's water in certain parts of the level, like in the 8-bit version of Sonic 1! The mini boss is pretty easy, especially if you grab a invincibility power-up not too far from the boss arena. Dr. Eggman's final machine from Sonic 2 16-bit also makes a reappearance as the main boss in Act 2. (Though he's not as much as a pain in the ass this time around. xD) So once the boss is defeated you're greeted with another cutscene, this time it shows Dr. Eggman and enemies known as "The Hard-Boiled Heavies". Once again some of his creations ends up betraying him and steals the phantom ruby from their creator. This then warps everyone to the next level in the game which is Chemical Plant Zone!
I knew CPZ was making a return, as it's one of the levels that was announced towards the end of the game's development cycle. Again, I wasn't too happy to see CPZ return, as just like GHZ they both were in Generations. Alas, it's probably one of the more known Sonic 2 16-bit levels, which is why they picked it to return. However the main new gimmick in the level really makes Mania's CPZ way better than Sonic 2's! It's a combination of Wacky Workbench from Sonic CD, and some of the later levels from the Aspect 8-bit Sonic games. As seen in the reveal trailer, there are two different chemicals that make the mega mack mimic the bounce pads from Wacky Workbench. A darker blue chemical allows the player to bounce a little above the ground, whereas the green chemical makes the player bounce just like in Wacky Workbench! As for the gimmick from the 8-bit titles, the tubes allow the player to control where to go. In Sonic 2's CPZ, it didn't allow you to choose which path to go, instead it was controlled by the timer if memory serves me correctly. (Please let me know if this information is incorrect.) There's also platforms that the characters stick to, which allow you to reach higher platforms. Interestingly enough, Sonic's sprites are based off a unused wall climbing sprite found in a Knuckles Chaotix prototype. (Thanks goes to Rlan of the Sonic Retro forums for that information!) The mini-boss here resembles the mini-boss found in Ice Cap Zone of Sonic 3, though it uses the mega mack to shield itself rather than ice cubes of course. Now Eggman's fight is one of the moments in which I had to pause the game to really take in what was happening. The boss is a Mean Bean/Puyo-Puyo puzzle! I actually lost the first time I made it here, because of how excited I was! This alone made me somewhat happy to see CPZ return. Once you destroy the egg capsule, you're taken to the next level which is Studiopolis!
Now this is one of the few brand new zones in the game. It's also one of the earliest zones shown in the launch trailer and the very first level made. Studiopolis is a huge tv station, there's screens showcasing "Egg TV", some badniks resemble giant lights, there's reels that the trio can spin on to reach new parts of the level, and the music in both acts are beautiful. Everything in this level just screams 90's! There are some pretty cool easter eggs in this zone, one being a node to the Game Gear! The biggest and best easter egg IMO is the SegaSonic The Hedgehog Popcorn Maker, which is a obscure popcorn machine that was actually released in a "playable" state around the time Mania was first announced. Not to mention the streets of rage references too! Studiopolis has the most easter eggs out of all the levels in the game, with even references from other Sonic and Sega games besides SOR! This level also marks the first time that the trio is up against one of the Hard-Boiled Heavies, which one you ask? Heavy Gunner, and he's got some fellow Egg-Robos under his command. This boss honestly gave me some trouble the very first time I played through Mania, Gunner shoots three missiles and only the blue ones can damage him. You jump on the blue ones to  make them bounce, and it takes down one of his egg-robo buddies. Destroy all three egg-robos, to hit Gunner himself and that's pretty much the boss fight. However you must jump over the red missiles, as they do damage to the player. I love Eggman's boss fight however. He controls a weather machine, and there's a Cluckoid who tells you what type of weather is about to happen. There are three different patterns, one is a thunderstorm which causes clouds and lightning bolts to appear above the player's head, one blows strong winds that can knock the  player up into spikes along the celling if they don't hold on to the bars that appear on each side of the boss arena, and one is a heat wave that makes beams of heat damage the player  if they're not directly under Eggman. This also causes Eggman's ship to move closer to the player, making it easier to land hits. Once Eggman is defeated, the tv that contained the weather forecast will cut out and a buzzing sound can be heard, which funny enough was the annoying buzzing from the 25th anniversary party live stream that happened on 7/26/2016. (And that date can be seen bellow the tv monitor too! The anniversary party was how Mania and Forces were both announced.) You sly bastards! xD I honestly didn't notice that until I heard it a second time while playing the game as Knuckles. From there a breaking news report shows that Flying Battery Zone is back, and on the screen you can see the player jump on the ship, and it's on to Flying Battery Zone!
Yet again it's another rehashed level, this time though it's a rehash of my second favorite level from Sonic and Knuckles! Flying Battery Zone has plenty of new and old gimmicks that really make the level more of a challenge than in Sonic and Knuckles. This is a good thing from my perspective, seeing how I've been playing the classics since I was four years old. However I did get some game overs a few times the first time I played through the game... Anyways let's talk about those gimmicks. First off, there's tons of old broken monitors, signposts, badniks, and other scrap metal that appear on the new FBZ, which is a nice little touch. You'll even notice that there's a unused badnik from Sonic 1 that appears in the scrap, but we'll go into that during the next portion of the review. (You'll see soon enough why. ;) ) Some enemies from Wing Fortress Zone in Sonic 2 16-bit appear in the level, as well as the electric fields from Wacky Workbench Zone. You can even destroy the Mushroom Hill badniks that pilot the FB, which I thought was amusing. The level also reminds me a bit of Sky Base Zone from Sonic 1 8-bit, and Sky High Zone Act 2 from Sonic 2 8-bit. (During some portions of the level you're in a thunderstorm, kind of like in Sky High 2. Thankfully there's no hang-glider though!) The magnets return, but this time the trio can be pulled up alongside the metal platforms if they have a lightning shield, which I thought was a cool gimmick. The mini-boss is a node to the short Eggman boss that encloses you between two energy beams, while a laser draws those beams closer and closer to you. This time though, you're dropped into a machine that crushes scrap metal while a laser shoots. It's a bit tricky to beat, but a badnik spawns which allows you to jump and hit the laser beam if you're not in super form. Now Act 2's boss gave me some trouble at first. You have to use the poles to knock Eggman into some spikes, and even then his hit box is a pain to get used to. One random fun fact, act 2's boss is actually foreshadowed before you're dropped down into the boss arena during Act 1's mini-boss. You can see a blue print in the background right before Eggman drops you down. Honestly, FBZ was better in S&K IMO... Anyways once you defeat Eggman, you're taken to the next level with sadly no cutscene, and it's another original level known as Press Garden!
Press Garden Zone is by far my favorite level in Mania! You run through an old printing press in act 1 and end up outside during the winter time in a Japan-like setting in Act 2. This level contains some new gimmicks never seen in a classic Sonic title before. Honestly it feels more like a mega man level to me, which isn't a bad thing! Maybe the music has something to do with that, which by the way Act 2's is one of my favorite tracks in the game! Remember also how I mentioned that there's some scrap metal that contains a unused badnik from Sonic 1? Well it's name is Splats, and it appears in Press Garden Act 1! These guys pop out of glass jars that contain ink, fitting the level's theme perfectly! Act 2 of the level really makes up for Mania not containing Ice Cap Zone, which I really wanted to see in this game. There's tons of Shinobi references in this level as well, too. Act 1's mini-boss is a random Eggman robot that uses a saw to damage the player. Hiding behind crates will break off the saw, allowing the player to get in some hits. I didn't get this at first, so I lost quite a bit of rings. Act 2's gimmicks are pretty cool, no pun intended. There's parts of the level that the trio must get frozen solid to make it pass certain barriers, some blocks of ice contain power-ups and even springs made of ice, which break after using them once. The main boss is yet another Hard-Boiled Heavy, simply known as "Heavy Shinobi" with yep you guessed it, ninja-like attacks and even the sound effects are taken from the Revenge of Shinobi on the Genesis! Also the stars he throws are those annoying badniks from Metropolis Zone. You may be asking why I love this level so much, despite it having lots of platforming sections. I really dig the aesthetics of both acts, the first act reminds me of old abandoned buildings, which I adore while the second act takes you out into a winter wonderland in Japan. Having two different tropes added to just one zone makes it amazing IMO. I just wish there was a transition from FBZ to PGZ... Anyways once Heavy Shinobi is defeated, you see Eggman sending coordinates to Metal Sonic to return to Little Planet and Stardust Speedway.
Stardust Speedway is my favorite level in Sonic CD. However in Mania... it's not. While there are some parts of the level layout that gives you enough speed, I feel that it's one of the slower levels. I'll probably get some hate for saying that, as Press Garden Zone really isn't all about speed all the time and it's my favorite original level found in Mania. However, the level was much faster in Sonic CD, which is a slower paced game than Mania is. Not to mention that the music in act 1 really wasn't on par with other remixes in the game, up to this point. I'll admit it has grown a bit on me since it was revealed before the game was released, but Act 2's track really does a better job at remixing the track. Act 1's boss is a giant firefly badnik, which is pretty easy to beat. However, I may not have liked the remixed level all too much but Act 2's boss had me freaking out. At first I thought I was going to have to race Metal Sonic yet again, but to my surprise you fight him. And this fight was a special treat for someone who wasn't expecting any more nodes to the 8-bit titles, Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 8-bit appears as a badnik in the boss fight, and you have to spin dash into him while he's spindashing in order to damage Metal Sonic! I had to pause the game to soak in what was happening, and I even freaked my girlfriend out a bit because she heard me freaking out over this moment! Not to mention that the machine that Metal Sonic was hooked up to resembles his fight from Knuckles Chaotix, which is pretty cool! After destroying that machine, you have to damage Metal Sonic himself and avoid running into a wall full of spikes that's chasing after you. Once he's defeated, and you destroy the egg capsule it's time to go to the next level which is Hydrocity.
This level really didn't give me that wow factor, well up until the bosses that is! Anyways Hydrocity Zone really wasn't one of my favorites in Sonic 3, so I wasn't too excited to see it return in Mania. I do like the boat gimmick they've added to the level, and best of all the giant bubble gimmick from Aqua Lake Zone from Sonic 2 8-bit. I seriously can't get over all the 8-bit references! Honestly though, it feels as if this level was rushed. Act 2's layout is almost a exact replica of the original zone, and the bosses aren't original. (Well aside from the first Eggman phase.) I really got a kick out of the mini boss, it's nice to use one of Eggman's own weapons against him and best of all it's his weapon from the original Hydrocity Zone! Act 2's boss is act 1's mini-boss from the original zone, but as stated above the first phase has Sonic and his friends being chased by Eggman. Since the bosses aren't original, that factor also seems to back up my theory that Hydrocity was rushed. There's not really much to say about Hydrocity, it could have been better but in my opinion the original really wasn't one of my favorites. The next level is another original zone, and one that was also revealed long before the game came out. That level is Mirage Saloon!
Now this is one of the coolest levels in the game. Sonic and Tails' Act 1 plays exactly like Sky Chase Zone from Sonic 2 16-bit. I know many people don't care for that level, but personally it was one of my favorites from Sonic 2, so I was happy to see it return in some fashion. Knuckles has a completely different layout and level, and not to mention mini-boss, but we'll get into that shortly. I think many fans prefer Knuckles' Act 1 to Sonic's and Tails', since it's the typical Sonic zone. Mirage Saloon's graphics are based off the scrapped level called "Desert Dazzle", a level that originally was supposed to be included in the Sonic CD remasters, but was cut. It's also based around Dust Hill, a scrapped level from Sonic 2. It's a western zone that takes place in a bar like setting, but out in the middle of a desert. The level gimmicks are pretty cool, but the best part of the level are the bosses. Remember how I mentioned that Knuckles has a completely different mini-boss than Sonic and Tails? His is actually the Gigalopolis/Gigapolis boss from Sonic Chaos! That blew me away when I first played the game as Knuckles! Sonic and Tails' is based on the catakiller badniks found in Sonic 3D on the Genesis/Mega Drive. Act 2's boss blew me away as well! Once again you're up against one of the Hard-Boiled Heavies, this time Heavy Magician. She actually transforms into some lost but familiar characters to long time fans. Specifically she transforms into Fang the Sniper (or Nack the Weasel), Bean, and Bark! Not only that, but the sound effect that plays when she transforms is directly taken from the 8-bit titles, and is actually the ring loss sound effect! This was another moment where I had to pause the game and fan out a little bit! Once Heavy Magician is defeated, we actually get a level transition, the trio jump into a giant gun and is thrown into the next level, which happens to be Oil Ocean!
Oh how I despise Oil Ocean. It's always been one, if not my least favorite zone from Sonic 2. Not only that, but combined with my least favorite zone in Sonic and Knuckles, it really makes me despise the level even more. I will say that I do like the oil burning effect that happens if you have a fire shield, it makes logical sense for fire to be igniting oil. I will admit that I do enjoy Mania's OOZ a tad bit more than Sonic 2's. However it's not really by much. I also do like the new submarine gimmick that the mania crew added, it works really well. I think the Act 2 gimmick of the level getting hotter and hotter after defeating the Act 1 mini boss is creative as well, but that mini-boss can be a pain in the ass if you don't defeat it quick enough. Act 2's boss was a absolute nightmare, especially as Knuckles. I found myself losing most of my lives here, but really you just need to take it slow to beat it without losing a life. I did find myself dying because the pillars rose and I was slightly facing them, causing me to get crushed a few times. (Which the crushing hazards being a bigger pain in the ass in this game than in the classics means you'll probably die a few times by getting crushed, even if you're not directly in a spot to get crushed.) That's really all I have to say about this zone. It's a shame that there's no level transition to my all time favorite level from Sonic and Knuckles, which is Lava Reef Zone!
This is the only zone I got spoiled on. I wasn't happy that I got spoiled, but what can you do? Anyways Lava Reef Zone is just as amazing as ever, but I love how they added the conveyor belts from Quartz Quadrant Zone in the level and even added some loops that resemble the loops from Endless Mine Zone from Sonic 3. Another gimmick they added from Sonic CD are the giant weight like platforms that move when you jump on one at a time, they're from Tidal Tempest if memory serves me correctly. Act 1's boss pays homage to Mystic Cave Zone's boss, which is pretty cool. Act 2's boss is very special to those who are or were a member at Sonic Retro at some point. You fight another hard-boiled heavy, Heavy Rider, but she rides on a Motobug named Jimmy. For those not aware of this easter egg, it's a rather depressing one. There was once a Tech Member on Sonic Retro know as Polygon Jim. He was quite well known at Retro, his mods of the Sonic games were hilarious, but one particular mod was a hack of Sonic 1 known as "Motobug in Sonic the Hedgehog." Yeah you got to play as a motobug, who was slow as hell, but the mod was hilarious. In memory of him Christian Whitehead named the Motobug that Heavy Rider joyrides on, and the sprite is based around the sprite in his hack. This is one of the best parts of Mania, and shows a better part of the Sonic fandom, one that always gets overlooked because of all the negativity.
Well I've went over the majority of the levels in Sonic Mania. I think I'll wrap this review up, and let you experience the last few levels the game has to offer. But before I do end this review, there's still another part of the game I'll go over, something that always appears in the classic titles. The special stages that is! Well they don't actually appear in Sonic 2 8-bit, and other spin off titles, but the Genesis games have them and of course Mania is no exception. The special stages are in 3D! They look as they would have if this game was a Sega Saturn game. In order to collect all 7 chaos emeralds and get the good ending, you have to chase after a UFO while dodging bombs and mines. There's also blue spheres that help the trio pick up enough speed to be able to catch the UFO, before time runs out. Rings replenish the timer, and running into bombs and mines makes you lose 10 rings. You can even fall off some levels if you're not careful, but almost all stages start you off at a position that has bumpers alongside the stage, preventing you from falling off. The backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous, and the special stages are a blast to play once you get the hang of them. The game also has local two player versus mode that resembles Sonic 2's split screen competition mode.
Overall I had a blast playing Sonic Mania! I've been playing the game almost every day, and I've personally bought it on the Xbox One as well as on Bundled Stars. Being a huge fan of the classic Sonic games, I was amazed with how much love and dedication was put into this project and it was definitely worth the wait. It even gave the Sonic franchise a better outlook from various gaming websites who recently had nothing but negative things to say about the franchise. It's just a shame that Sega of Europe had to delay the PC version to include DRM to the game, and one that doesn't even do what it was programmed to do. Another thing that I wish the game had was more original levels, but I can't complain too much about the rehashed levels as it was stated numerous times that it was going to have more rehashed levels than new, and even then those rehashed levels had new elements that made those rehashed levels different from their original counterparts. I give Mania a very positive 9 out of 10. It may not be as good as Sonic 3 and Knuckles or CD, but it's definitely my second favorite game in the franchise. Give it a try if you haven't yet!
