oh how you loved your girlfriend.
you would die for your girlfriend, actually, even if you only started dating barely a few months ago. who could blame you? that’s what happens when you’ve been best friends prior to your relationship for so, so, so long. it simply started with a ‘hi! my name’s hanni! what’s yours?’ from her part at the innocent age of seven and just like that, years later, you guys were still inseparable.
so really, your life-long friendship and months-long relationship were both with the same gorgeous and outgoing girl, and the only thing distinguishing those two was the label you used to describe them.
“bro i genuinely don’t understand why he doesn’t just… run away. cause— get this, there’s obviously a murderer in his house right? and what does he decide to do about that? just stay in there. like, okay.. like i’m aware they needed plot but lord, i don’t know at least make it somewhat realistic you know what i mean—“ was what your girlfriend said, on her bed as she sat down in between your legs and leaned her back against you, her head facing forward and resting on your shoulder.
you simply nodded along to her words as you played with her hair, trying your hardest to stay focused on the piece of media before you whilst also paying your utmost attention to her, despite her constant ranting and criticizing of the entire movie. you, having originally liked the film, were now conflicted about your opinion on it. it’s not like she was wrong, her very heavy criticism had to have come from somewhere, after all, but you couldn’t help but slightly appreciate the storyline. so, you weren’t really sure what you felt about it anymore.
one thing you were certain of, however,
was that your girlfriend looked really good while passionately rambling. like, way too good. she had tied her dark hair into a high ponytail, it also looked wavy due to the rain that was pouring on you guys earlier, her messy bangs fell perfectly onto her forehead. and her smile? it always looked perfect. she always looked perfect.
and since you apparently weren’t hiding your admiration well enough, she very quickly noticed it.
she giggled teasingly. her voice sweet like honey, her australian accent more prominent than usual, she spoke up, “hello?” before full-on laughing, “were you even listening to me?”
you could only kiss her, that seemed like the only appropriate response in the heat of the moment. she, of course, kissed back just as lovingly before pulling away moments after, a curious and confused look on her face.
“no seriously, what is up with you?” she kept teasing, smiling stupidly as she kept her gaze lingering on yours for the following seconds, her eyes unconsciously drifting to your lips. “you look stupid.”
“and you look really pretty.” was what you whispered back to her, earning a shy smile and an exaggerated eye roll from her. immediately, you made your lips come into contact with hers again. it felt as if the world would stop spinning if you didn’t, like a slowly growing urge to keep touching her suddenly came over you and you needed to fill it.
“so.. so pretty.” you mumbled, so quietly that it was almost to yourself, before going back in. you allowed yourself to make the kiss deeper and slid her tongue across her soft lips as you demanded entrance. you could hear her let out slight noises, she clearly was not expecting you to do anything of the sorts, at least not right now. she was a tad bit confused, but let you in, who in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to kiss their girlfriend? immediately, your hands wrapped around her waist whilst you continued kissing her lovingly, your tongue roaming every part of her mouth.
it didn’t take long before your hands started naturally reaching under her top, caressing on her tummy and progressively going higher with each sound she let out.
you pulled away, slightly worried of going too far, “c-can.. can i continue, hanni?”
you were scared, terrified, even! despite knowing each other for years, you’d only been dating for a few months; those are two completely different things! it’s not like you see your completely platonic best friend’s naked body every tuesday. even then, despite dating, you still haven’t gotten that stage of the relationship. and on top of that,
the two of you were a proper pair of virgins. you had no idea what you were doing, and neither did she. you didn’t want to seem like an inexperienced loser to her, you wanted to take care of her and make her feel good. what if that didn’t happen? what if you made it awkward between the two of you?? it was nerve-racking.
as if barging into your mind and reading your thoughts, wanting to reassure you, she grabbed your hand in a gentle manner before nodding. then, she spoke up, “can you close the door?”
“there’s.. nobody home, though?”
she giggled, “oh i know, it’s just that i don’t want the dogs to potentially walk in on this.”
you groaned dramatically, laughing and insisting that you were too lazy to get up and that her dogs wouldn’t understand the situation if they even walked in. she, in response, just tapped your knee with a cheeky smile, encouraging you to stand up.
“come on y/n, close the door. think about milly and mia; think about their innocence!” she exaggerated.
after playfully hitting her arm and laughing along with her, you got up, proceeded to close and lock the door like she asked you to and eventually walked back to her bed, sitting back on it and positioning yourself the way you originally were, her back to you again.
“happy?” you asked in a fake arrogant tone.
she hummed, radiant, “yes, very happy.” before turning her head just right and kissing you again.
eventually back to the original rhythm of the kiss, you placed your hands back on her stomach again, slowly caressing and teasing higher and higher with time. once you reached her bra, you proceeded to impatiently unhook it, immediately taking it off of her.
her breathing got heavier with each second that passed, partially due to nervousness, probably. you’d be lying if you said that wasn’t the case for you too. the more your hands carefully roamed her body, the more self-conscious you got, you truly had no idea what you were doing.
then, as if something in your mind clicked, you had an idea. what if you just did to her whatever you enjoyed doing to yourself in moments like these? that could work.. right? maybe??
you glided your hand upwards, your finger lightly grazing her nipple. in response to the sudden movement, a lewd sound accidentally escaped from her pretty lips, her breath hitching. that sound was a small moan.
a small one, barely audible, yet it was still enough for you to feel the activation of every single neuron residing in your brain.
then suddenly, it’s like the concept of making love to her wasn’t as nerve-racking as it originally was.
“s-sorry..” she apologized, seeming slightly embarrassed.
you kissed her cheek, reassuring her, “don’t apologize, i wanna hear you.”
despite it being an accident, she seemed to enjoy the sensation of your hand on her chest, so you went back to teasing her tits and gently groping them before you eventually asked, “is it okay if i go further..?”
nodding in a keen manner, she swallowed her saliva, then breathed out her response, “yes. yes keep— keep going. please.”
well shit! even if you wanted to stop, it’s not like you could, not with how good she sounded pleading for you.
not wasting any more time, you proceeded to separate one of your hands from her chest and quickly slid it downwards; to the band of her sweatpants. now, of course, your other hand was still in its original place, working its magic, but you wanted her to feel more. so much more.
you wanted to convey every surge of affection you violently felt for her into pleasure. and, if there was one thing you surely knew how to do, it was kissing her.
so, you started kissing on her neck, which she didn’t expect whatsoever, and still heavily concentrated on the hand you had on her breast. then, you pulled on the sleeve of her tee just enough to expose her shoulder and moved your mouth towards it, nipping and gently licking it.
your hand now fully slipped into her pants, you teased her entrance through the fabric of her underwear as you kept kissing her naked shoulder. you listened to her attentively and took mental notes of her reactions; so far, her breathing got heavier, her thighs slightly clenched around your hand and she was now frequently biting her lip.
plus, her panties were wet.
did all of that mean you were doing good? …perhaps it did!
and did her drenched underwear make you short circuit? perhaps it did as well!
“d-d’you feel okay?” you asked, before going back to slowly kissing her shoulder. she threw you a quick glance, chest heaving up and down.
“s-so okay.” she giggled.
her smile being contagious, you found yourself doing the exact same thing, content with the answer she gave you.
soon enough, you traced your finger up her clothed slit before eventually sliding it into the undergarment she wore, making her shudder. after what felt like an eternity, you could feel her slick coat your digits from one swipe of the finger.
it was tantalizing.
growing impatient, you quickly yet carefully settled your middle and ring finger on her swollen clit, making slow circular motions on it, looking at her in the process. full on whimpering, this time, she stared back at you, no longer embarrassed. she wanted to let you know how good you were making her feel, hence why she was getting louder with each movement you made, and it filled you with enough confidence and adrenaline to gently push her head towards you, leaning in for a kiss.
thankfully, she kissed you back, deeply at that, her eyes closed and her quiet moans muffled.
you pulled away after a few moments, “tell me if it hurts, okay?” you reminded her. she simply nodded, brain all fuzzy from arousal.
she grabbed your other hand and intertwined her fingers with yours. “g-go slowly.” she whispered.
“i will.” you affirmed.
slowly and gently, you slid your fingers into her core, making sure not to go too fast or too rough. thankfully, the wetness was making it easier for you, and probably for her as well. every time that your girlfriend’s breath hitched, that her hand gripped harder on yours or, hell, every time that her eyes closed, you stopped in your tracks and double checked to see if you were hurting her, so it took a little while for your digits to fully penetrate her.
fortunately, she assured you that you weren’t, in fact, hurting her. some moments just felt more comfortable than others, is all.
once they were fully in, you gave her time to get used to the feeling, still double checking on her state every now and then. after a few deep breaths, she nodded.
“i-i’m ready.”
you started to pump your fingers in and out of her, taking in all of her as your speed slowly increased as time went on. naturally, as more time passed, you felt the urge to make her feel good get even stronger.
that’s when you decided to increase the pace, your fingers curling on just the right spot inside her, pumping faster and faster as your thumb played with her clit.
“is this okay baby—” you asked.
“f-fuck— yes y/n that feels good—“ was what she moaned out, cutting you off. a feeling of bliss progressively and clearly overtaking her whole body.
when you tried to look at her despite only being able to see her side profile, you could’ve sworn you saw an angel. her cheeks were slightly tinted with a pinkish color and her eyebrows were upturned, her whole face contorted with pleasure, her skin glistening with sweat. her eyes hooded with lust, hanni looked down at herself and attentively watched as you played with her. your fingers swimming in her slick, navigating in her folds the way a skilled sailor would the vast ocean, it was hypnotizing, and she realized how this was probably the way you got yourself off on a regular day, and she couldn’t help but moan at both the thought and the sensation.
you made her feel good, you made her feel happy, loved. you always did.
amidst the chaos that was her messy bed, the setting somehow looked better than every piece of artwork you’d ever seen combined. the bed creaked ever so slightly, and she looked and sounded so beautiful, especially with the way the sun set directly on her parted lips at that moment.
you were certain that your heart skipped a beat at the sight.
“i love you so much, hanni.” you softly said, kissing the back of her ear whilst you kept fingering her. she couldn’t form proper words, so she simply tightened her grip on your hand more, as a way to say it back.
then, once you picked up a stable pace for a few minutes, her back arched against you, her breathing getting heavier, practically panting. her hand’s grip on yours getting tighter, you felt her hot breath hit your neck once she settled her head into the crook of it.
“y/n— baby i think i’m- i’m— mmh—“
that was the moment she reached climax, letting out a long and loud moan as she rode out her orgasm, bucking her hips against your hand before smashing her lips onto yours. quietly, she let a few i love yous slip out of her mouth between kisses, her hand resting on your head, fingers intertwined with your soft hair.
you particularly made sure to say it back to her every time.
you pulled out your fingers and took your hand out of her pants. still coming down from her high, she smiled at you with tired eyes and kissed your cheek. you smiled back, looking at her lovingly.
“d-did i do okay?”
she giggled, “..are you seriously asking me that? do you not see me right now?”
you raised your eyebrows, playful, “for all i know you were faking it.”
“yeah, actually.. i was faking it, especially with how wet i was from the whole thing. aren’t i such a good actor y/n? it’s almost like i legitimately came really hard—”
“shut up.” you elbowed her, laughing. she gave you a cheeky smile before she got up from the bed, grabbed a pair of new underwear from her drawer and opened the bedroom door, heading straight towards the living room to pet her dogs after changing.
“hey y/n?”
“hm?”
“…wanna bake brownies in a bit?”
“uhm.. yes? what kind of question is that?? let me just go wash my hands first.” you replied, getting up and walking towards the bathroom before adding on, “unless you wanna eat very unsanitary cum-buttered brownies, of course—“
you heard her contagious laugh from across the hallway, making you smile to yourself, “you’re fucking disgusting— go wash your hands, you weirdo!”
oh how you loved your girlfriend.

TAKING MY TIME
pairing: pham hanni x fem! reader
trope: strangers to lovers! fluff! slowburn!
the orientation hall is filled of students around your age, crowded and filled with chatters among students and classmates. you sat alone in the corner as you wait for the orientation to end, it's smart really, how you genuinely thought walking away from your classmates and picking a seat away from them was a good idea. good thing you brought a notebook and had the motivation to listen and list down notes of what was needed before the assigned work for students was announced.
the next thing after the announcement is the list of students at every department in the city hall, it could be anywhere, it was random and you could be grouped with people who you didn't know.
that wasn't the worst part, you were capable, it didn't matter what the people around you couldn't and could do; it only mattered to you that you are able to do a lot. the thing is this is a requirement to complete the school year, working on a department as a trainee to gain experience, spending hours to complete the given time and getting nothing in return but a certificate...
so you had no choice, it would have been nice to work on a tech company but you didn't want to spend 8 days in front of your computer and then 2 days of staring at the thin air and having to pay a lot of money just for the experience.
the easiest way was the hard way.
there are different departments around the city, it could be the department for the agriculture, department of the fire and safety management and more, but the worst of them all had to be the council for the children and the traffic department.
well, working on an office and taking care of kids isn't as bad as walking on mountains and rice fields or standing in the middle of the road while it's blazing hot.
you just weren't fond of kids.
being assigned for the council for the welfare of children leads you straight to a local kindergarten around the city and that means you'll have to teach and take care of kids.
you have nieces, yes; but you never took initiative to take care of them. you've been a sole hater of kids, at least that's what you claim to be. you didn't know how to work your way in it if you ever got assigned in that department.
on the other side of the orientation hall, is a girl who hopes to be assigned at the council for the welfare of children.
pham hanni.
she's excited, she looked forward for this new experience. yes, it's tough, it's going to be very hard but wouldn't it be worth it? she thinks so.
as the orientation continues, hanni made sure to list everything that was needed, no time to wait and just sit there, she needs to be assigned at the kindergarten department.
"is everything crystal clear students?" the principal asks, looking at the students ahead of him as he stands in front. in unison, the students answer: "yes, sir."
the screen in front of the hall shows lists of departments, the principal prepares to announce the group of students working together.
you expect that there would be 10 of you but no, as the third department was announced, you instantly freeze on your seat.
"council for the welfare of children, pham hanni and jeon y/n." the principal requires students to stand up when their names are mentioned, you immediately scramble to stand up, hearing snickers behind and just on the other side is another girl.
"okay who's pham hanni? raise your hand." the principal says, the short girl raises her hand with a huge smile on her face. you turn your head to look at her, you couldn't make out her face as she had her back facing you.
"how about jeon y/n." you raise your hand reluctantly, the principal nods and hanni turns to look at you, before you immediately sit down.
"so those are the people you'll work with, pham and jeon will be immediately deployed in the city's kindergarten to teach and help kids. remember to print out forms and checklists and place them in a brown envelope."
it wasn't supposed to be this bad, you stand in front of the school's office as the adviser allowed you to use the photocopy machine for the forms you'll need.
you didn't notice hanni behind you, approaching. "uhm hey." she says, you look behind and see her, holding two daily time records in her hands.
"uh, hi... can i do something for you..?" you ask her, she smiles and awkwardly looks around the office as she hands you a daily time record. "i had an extra one of this so, i was planning to give it to you." she says, you slowly take it from her and place it on the table, not really putting out that much of an expression as you nod.
"thanks..." you only say before busying yourself with the machine again. hanni sighs and laughs sheepishly, embarrassed by your lack of enthusiasm for her presence. "you're printing our forms already?" she asks, you nod and continue to face the printing machine.
"yes, ms. kim allowed me." hanni blinks her eyes and remembers that you two are required to get your parental consent signed by a law firm office for a notary and she decides if she can ask you to come with her,
"uh, you want to come with me? get the notary for our parental consent..." in all honesty, hanni was taking this whole work immersion requirement seriously, like she's actually getting a job. she wants to get to know you and get comfortable with each other even if the real work is just 5 days.
after that, you don't have to talk to her again.
yet you try to entertain her so she won't get her feelings hurt. "okay." you say as you face her and put the papers in the brown envelope with her and your name on it.
you both stand outside the law firm office, waiting for your papers to be signed by the lawyer. hanni peeks at your every now and then and regrets it when she sees you looking back at her.
but she can't help herself but just look at you, cautious whether you're bothered by her.
"hey, you're parental consent is ready." you tell her as she shoots up and looks at you. "w-what?" she asks, you stare at her, emotionless. "your paper is ready." you tell her, hanni immediately takes her pouch and grabs her money as she enters the office to pay for the notary service.
you follow next and take yours before making your way before her back to school to pass the paper to the adviser.
"aren't you excited?" hanni asks as she walks behind you, you look just a bit behind and back to the front. "not really." you answer her, hanni nods and figures you're probably not a big fan of school requirements.
you feel bad at your lack of enthusiasm, but it's just how you are. "how about you?" you ask, hanni's face lightens as she hears you ask about her. "yes! i really want to work at a daycare or kindergarten as a teacher, don't you think kids are great?" hanni says, you shrug at her question.
"not fond of them. but you do you, they'll probably like you a lot." you tell her as you stop walking to let hanni catch up. hanni looks at you as she smiles and nods her head. "i hope so." she says as she walks beside you.
first day.
the first day is as bad as you knew it is gonna be, you wake up early in the morning and forget to make lunch, you make your way to a local convenience store to buy a half-ass double cheese pepperoni sandwich and run to catch up to the bus on the daycare department.
entering the office, you look like you didn't get enough sleep. hanni watches as you walk inside and place your bag on the floor and immediately eat your sandwich with your brows furrowed and eyes still closed.
"y/n? are you okay?" she asks, you take deep breath and look up at her and sigh. "yeah, i'm okay." you tell her and even before she says something, she gets cut off by the supervisor who asks her to come see the kids.
meanwhile you're left in the office with a stack of paper to arrange and nametag designs to work at.
hanni's assigned job is simple, just entertain the kids... the supervisor and teachers obviously prefer her over you and they like the job she's doing. and here you are, dumped with papers to work at, with two hours of sleep catching up to school and no lunch packed.
hanni enters the office again as the kids are back to listening to their teacher, she sees your slumped figure, printing and designing nametags.
"it's lunch already, have you brought yours?" you sigh as you hear her voice and look at her. "no, i didn't pack anything. i'll buy after this." hanni grimaces when she sees the pile of paper in the desk and the time, you're not gonna make it on time with all the stack of paper they gave you.
"but lunch is about to finish, are you sure you can make it on time?" she asks. "yeah, i can if you give me some space." you tell her without even sparing her a glance, hanni looks away and sits at her assigned desk, watching you work.
hanni sees the door open and it's the supervisor. "oh pham! the kids are about to go home, what about saying goodbye to them?" they say as they look at hanni who smiles at them. "yeah i will! just waiting for the teacher to signal me." she says.
the supervisor looks at you and takes a peek at your work. "seems like you're not finished yet." they say and you try your best not to click your tongue in annoyance. "what do you say pham? we can eat lunch at the cafeteria." the supervisor offers but hanni shakes her head and looks at you. "i'm okay here." the supervisor nods and leaves the office.
it's clear you aren't in your best mood, about to finish as hanni waits.
"you can leave you know?" you tell her as you continue to arrange files. hanni shakes her head. "but, i want to eat lunch with you." you chuckle, not looking at her direction. "i can't i'm eating outside." you say, hanni watches as you finish and brush yourself and leaving the office.
hanni sighs as she looks at your now empty desk, and puts the lunch she made in your desk before going to the cafeteria to eat lunch with the supervisor. she knew it's a bit late now and you're probably not going to be allowed to eat outside so she leaves her lunch to your desk incase you come back.
turns out, hanni was right. you stand in the empty office, starving and your pride's about to wear down, now you feel guilty for pushing hanni away and you can't help but rub your temple before sitting down and sighing.
"why am i such an asshole..?" you mutter to yourself before eating the food and thanking hanni in the back of your mind.
after your shift with hanni was done, hanni checks up on you to see if the lunchbox is in your desk, it wasn't there and hanni has no idea where it went, she's starting to think someone else took it from your desk.
the day ends with hanni the backseat of their car, looking out to the window wondering where you are.
second day
hanni doesn't sense any difference on you as you sat on your desk and did your usual work, the kids' class hasn't started yet and hanni cannot find the courage to walk up to you and ask about your day, you seem occupied in your own little world.
hanni sighs as she leaves the office and proceeds to do the work assigned to her, leaving you alone in the office.
after a while, it's lunch again, your were able to finish half of your work in time and when hanni is about to leave and eat lunch in the cafeteria, you make your way to her desk with the lunchbox from yesterday, placing it on her desk.
"is that..?" hanni trails as she looks up at you from the chair she was sitting on, you take a deep breath as you nod. "yeah, it's your lunchbox." you mutter as you watch hanni take the lunchbox and notice that it has a significant weight on it, hanni watches as you make your way out of the office but before you open the door, she calls out to you.
"y/n! where are you going?" hanni asks, looking at the lunchbox in her hands. you look at hanni and raise your eyebrows. "canteen, i'll eat lunch." hanni walks up to you and smiles. "let's eat lunch together."
you can't understand why you feel this way, you sat across hanni on the table and stare at your lunch while hanni is eating hers, you've eaten a good amount of it and as you sat, you can't help letting your mind wander of until hanni notices.
"what's up y/n?" she asks, you look at her and blink your eyes before shaking your head. "nothing..." you mutter.
luckily, your assigned work was finished sooner than you expected and you got the chance to watch hanni help the teacher inside the classroom, being able to see hanni's mature and loving personality, you can't help but notice how well the kids get along with her, you can sense that they'd get attached to her really quick.
after hanni was finished, you agree to accompany her to the bus stop, wherein she'll be picked up by her dad and you'll take the bus.
"so... you made the lunch?" she asks, you stare at the road, seeing the vehicles pass by and you nod. "yes." you woke up early to cook the lunch, which you usually never do, it's a weird routine and you can't get yourself used to it.
hanni smiles as she shrugs. "it's good, i didn't know you could cook." she laugh and it brought you to smile as well. "rarely." you comment and hanni nods.
it was awkward until you see her father pulling up and hanni bids goodbye before getting inside the car.
third day
as hanni waits for your arrival, she can't help but think that you only have two days left with her, the day hasn't even started and she's already sad thinking she probably won't see you often after those five days.
it's an ordinary day, aside from the humid air, hanni can't help but notice your awfully cheerful behavior.
"uhm, good morning y/n!" hanni greets you and sees the smile in your face when you look at her, hanni feels her cheeks warm up and she tries her best to maintain eye contact as you nod your head. "hey, good morning." you tell her as you take a seat, hanni notices that you're bringing a lunchbox, you're own lunchbox.
hanni can't help but smile as the day went on.
it's the usual, there's nothing new as you sat on your desk and did office work while hanni is taking care of the kids and helping the teacher, she's made a name for herself amongst department employees. they all like her.
and you're just there. it's not like it matters to you, you're all cool doing your own thing in your own word. today is a good day, after a long time of waiting, you got your results for your college entrance the same time you arrived home yesterday.
hanni is so ready to ask about why you're so happy.
lunch came, you and hanni decide to go to the same place at the canteen where you are now bringing your own food you cooked yourself. hanni doesn't know how to not look at you, every second, she finds herself stealing glances or just staring.
you don't even notice until hanni speaks.
"uhm, hey you look so happy today... mind if i ask you why?" she says, you raise your brows at her and nod. "yeah." you shrug, it's weird. usually when someone asks you why you're like this, like that, you get annoyed but... with hanni it's different.
"you look so happy today, i mean it's not like you aren't everyday but you look extra bright." hanni laughs under her breath and looks at you, you continue to eat your food as you nod. "uh yeah, i passed my entrance exam and i'm getting my priority program." you tell her, hanni blinks her eyes and is in shock.
well you're smart but she didn't think you'd be able secure a slot before everyone does.
"where?" she asks.
"seoul national university." hanni opens her lips, she's surprised, amazed.
"you're smart, smart." she laughs. you shrug and smile, and hanni feels something funny inside her stomach. "thanks."
as hanni sits in the backseat of their car, she can't help but picture your smile, it's just... so nice to see. hanni sighs and puts her hands on her face before sighing deeply, causing her parents to check if she's fine.
fourth day
after three days, you manage to finish all the papers and work assigned to you, and you were left with nothing anymore. hanni watches as you sit on your desk, tweaking on your laptop and you look bored.
hanni still has to take care of kids and she wonders what you'll be doing in the next day, last day.
she sighs and walks out of the office and she's surprised to see no teacher in the desk, she looks around and walks back to the office to ask the supervisor. "uhm, where's ms. kim?" hanni asks with a smile, the supervisor looks around and sighs.
"oh i forgot to tell you, she's absent for today and tomorrow. sick leave." hanni nods and slowly turns away to look at you as you stare at the window of the office. hanni blinks her eyes and looks at the supervisor again.
"should me and y/n teach together?" she asks, the supervisor looks up from their phone and shrugs. "do as you please."
"ah! no... hanni, i can't teach." you mutter as hanni pulls you out of the office to the classroom and looks at you with a smile. "come on! it's okay, the kids need someone to teach them and it's going to be okay..." hanni looks at you with a smile, relaxing her shoulders.
both of you stand in front of the classroom and you look at the door before shifting your eyes to hanni and sighing. "alright." hanni cheers and hugs you, wrapping her arms around you as she rests her chin on your shoulder.
"uh..." you mutter as you tap her lower back, hanni lets go and laughs sheepishly. "sorry, i'm just so glad..." you nod and open the door for her.
hanni passes a lesson plan to you as she gives you a reassuring smile, making her way in front of the class and telling them to lower down their voice. "everyone! hey, ms. kim is not present today so... for the mean time me and my friend will teach you all today." hanni looks at you as she smiles brightly, you feel tense as every kid looks at you.
"uhm, good morning everyone." you awkwardly wave your hand at them, hanni walks over to you and takes your hand to the front and introduces you. "everyone, this is jeon y/n. she's my super smart friend and she's teaching us math today."
you nod and try to put out an awkward smile, which worked, miraculously.
during the time with the kids, everything felt natural, you slowly feel the tension inside you easing away as you talk to kids. it's weird, how hanni's presence not only comforts kids but you too, a girl the same age as her. you learn not to take things so seriously, finding the right way to talk to kids, it feels different, weird...
hanni packs up her things with a huge smile on her face, she can't even wipe it off even with you staring at her, you exit with her and to the entrance of the building, a storm shows up.
it's raging and violent, the rain is loud as it pours down the cold pavement.
you bring out an umbrella and notice the dark skies, you look at hanni as she stares at the skies, it's raining and she didn't bring any umbrella. you stare at your umbrella before offering it to her. "here, you can use mine." you tell her, hanni looks at you and shakes her head.
"no y/n, i can't just take it when you're gonna be stranded here." she tells you, you can't refute what she said, it's true, you're seriously gonna be stuck here if you insist in letting her go first.
so instead, you pull the umbrella out and reach for her hand. "let's go." hanni doesn't hesitate as she takes your hand and run off to the bus stop wherein her parents were waiting inside their car. hanni lets go of your hand and smiles at you before she offers you a ride home. "let's go, my dad can drive you to your house." you laugh and shake your head.
"it's okay, i'll wait for the bus." you notice the hesitance on hanni's face as her parents wait.
"seriously, it's okay... go now." you tell her as you give her a smile and hanni hears her mother calling out for her before she hurriedly got inside the car.
as the car accelerates, hanni peeks through the window of the backseat to see if you're doing okay.
without realizing, she comes home still thinking about you.
fifth day
"ugh... now i have to make my portfolio in less than a week, i have to catch up to lectures..." hanni sighs as she slumps on her desk, the door opens and you come in, carrying your lunch that you made. hanni looks up and notices the calm expression on your face, she can't but smile.
"uhm, hey." hanni calls out to you, you turn to look at her and smile. "hi, good morning." you simply mutter before turning to work on your portfolio, hanni smiles and leans on her palms, her elbows are propped on the surface of her desk.
hanni looks towards the door of the office and to you. "hey, are you ready to teach again?" she asks, you look at her and nod. "yeah, i think i'm ready." you answer as you close your laptop and look at hanni who smiles brightly stands up.
"okay? then let's go."
"ms. jeon!" you look at the kid who called your name and crouch to his level. you raise your brows at him. "hm? is there something you need help at?" you mutter, he looks at you and grins, you don't exactly know what's on his mind as he looks at hanni.
"do you call ms. pham hanni or honey?"
you stare at the kid as his other classmate snicker, with no idea what's so funny about it, you shrug... they both sound the same so, how will you know the difference?
hanni shakes her head as she laughs and leans on the kid's seat. "hey knock it off, ms. jeon is about to go back to the office." hanni says as she smiles at the kid, feeling her cheeks redden.
you look at her and speak. "they're the same thing." you tell the kid, causing his classmates to all shout in surprise, they were screaming and cheering. hanni looks at you with wide eyes and red face. you shrug as you pick up the kids' papers and leave hanni standing and flustered.
the kids are having their recess and they seem to be enjoying, you watch as one particular kid struggles to peel his oranges and walk up to him to help him peel his oranges but as you do so, hanni takes one of the oranges and only peels half of it before she gives it to the kid for him to peel the rest.
you look at her for a brief moment and she look back at you, there's an awkward silence as you peel off another orange and she stops you midway.
"uhm..." you look at her hand around you wrist and hanni smiles at your before letting you go.
"just leave half of it to peel himself, he'll learn." hanni shrugs and smiles at you, you do as she says and place the half peeled orange on top of the kid's lunch box and watch as he peels the one hanni peeled for him until there is no orange peeling left.
hanni looks at you and sees the way your eyes look at the kid. "when you give a man a fish, he has a meal for the day. if you teach a man how to fish, he gets a meal everyday. you get it?" hanni smiles at you and you can't help but smile back as you nod.
"i do." you mutter, hanni giggles and tucks strands of hair behind her ear.
hanni looks at her phone after she finished eating her lunch, five days in and she hasn't asked you about your socials, it's like she's totally missed out a lot even when you look like the type to have a dead social media account.
hanni looks up to see you eating and begins to wonder if she can ask for your number in order to contact you.
"uhm, y/n?" she asks as she sees you finishing up. you look up to hanni and raise your eyebrows at her.
"can i ask for your number?" she gives you an awkward smile, in return, you stare at her and take her phone as you type in your phone number.
hanni looks at your contact number and smile to herself, she looks up at you as she sees you standing up. "i'll message you later, just for you know? for the portfolio..." hanni mutters as she stands up and follows you to the office.
the kids all look sad finding out this will be the last day of hanni and you working together, hanni comforts the kids by promising to come back every now and them for the kids. she crouches to their level and says her goodbye, while you stand behind hanni and waving your hands lightly.
hanni slumps her shoulder when the classroom door closes and you look at her, knowing she's sadden that she won't come here again tomorrow. you walk up to her and place a hand on her shoulder.
"they really liked you, hanni." you say, from your observation by how sad the kids were knowing that hanni won't be back as soon as possible, hanni smiles at you.
"aren't they cute? i wish i can stay longer." she says, you nod and bring your hand down. "i know you do. let's go home." you tell her as you give her a small smile and walk towards the office, hanni nods and follows.
the walk to the bus stop is silent, hanni wishes she can be here for a little longer, talk to you about more stuff more than school, but she can't even find the perfect topic.
you see hanni in a trance, staring far away and you can't help but laugh. "hey, you know it's not the end of the world now, right?" you stop in front of the bus stop, her parents aren't here yet.
hanni looks at you and laughs, embarrassed by how emotional she can get.
"sorry, it's cause... i still want to do a lot more stuff." hanni says, she sighs. you nod and look ahead. "yeah, i know. it's not over yet, maybe next time let's talk about it and visit." hanni looks at you as you speak, she blushes and laughs.
"i guess you're right."
maybe it really isn't the end of everything, rather it was just the beginning, it's too early for her to slump and be sad about things that are just the start of everything, there's so many things to look forward for.
hanni is thankful that whatever sort of destiny brought her to you, maybe she's more than thankful that she can look back again and smile at the trivial things.
as hanni gets inside their car, she can't help but look back at you, seeing the way you look at the car as she waves her hand goodbye to you. the drive home feels like a path to hanni's realization that maybe she must have been in love or fallen in love, that has to be it.
she doesn't know where or when but she knows, surely, she knows to whom these feelings are for.

𝙿𝚁𝙸𝙽𝙲𝙴𝚂𝚂 𝚃𝚁𝙴𝙰𝚃𝙼𝙴𝙽𝚃
【𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐱 𝐅𝐞𝐦! 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫】
Summary: Well, well, when you've got a wife who's not just adorable and pretty but also radiates heat, isn't it time she gets treated like the princess she is?
Genre:𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐟𝐟.
"Damn... damn..." you muttered under your breath, frustration evident in your tone as you maneuvered through the traffic as swiftly as possible. The clock was ticking, and you were late for the dinner date you had promised Hanni. Your busy week had kept you apart, and now, this delay was adding to the tension.
As you pulled up in front of your mansion, you couldn't shake off the feeling that Hanni might unleash her frustration when she saw you. The clock read 6:23 pm - way past the promised time of 6.
"Fuck, she's going to give me an earful," you whispered to yourself as you parked the car and hurriedly made your way into the mansion. The familiar greetings from maids and workers barely registered as you rushed towards the living room.
"LOVE!?" you called out as you spotted Hanni sitting on the couch, engrossed in whatever was playing on the TV.
As expected, she seemed to ignore your entrance.
Approaching her, you noticed her crossed arms and the serious, yet undeniably cute, expression on her face. Unable to suppress a smile at her adorable pout, you took a seat beside her.
"Hey, Han!" you greeted, attempting to touch her hand, only to have her pull away with a huff.
The pout on her face grew larger.
"Late again," she mumbled, her irritation evident.
You couldn't help but playfully tease, "Woohoo, look whose wife is looking so pretty hot today." Your gaze appreciatively lingered on her outfit, noting her undeniable allure.
"Shut up, moron," she retorted, rolling her eyes. "And I've always been pretty hot; you don't have to keep reminding me," she asserted confidently, crossing her arms once more.
"I am sorry, Han..." you apologized sincerely as you looked into her eyes.
"Sorry? Look, Lee Y/n, your sorry excuses won't cut it from now on, okay!? You're a certified moron... you're late again for our date. Gosh, Y/n, I hate seeing this side of you now! Don't you care about me, huh!? Did you marry me just to treat me like this!? All you do is focus on your business, never making time for me! I. Hate. You. Don't talk to me!!" She expressed her frustration, looking away.
You sighed, biting your lips, acknowledging your fault for being late.
"Hey, babe?" you called out, hoping to catch her attention, but she didn't turn.
"Hey, please look at me?" you implored, gently cupping her face to make her face you, but she rolled her eyes without meeting your gaze.
"Babe?" you said with a pout.
"Are you going to ignore me like that? Please, I promise you I won't do it again." You vowed, and she finally looked at you.
"You swear?" she questioned, searching your eyes for sincerity, and you nodded your head earnestly.
"I swear to my wife that I won't be late again," you declared as she playfully hit your head. "Why are you swearing on me!" She whined, adding a touch of humor to the situation.
"Okay, now please let me make it up to you." You requested, and she turned to face you.
She sighed, "Okay, but last chance. If you get late again, I might have to break your ass in two parts." She gave you a teasing yet stern warning look, and you nodded your head.
"Now, let's go," you said, getting up and holding out your hand for her to grab.
"...okay," she replied, smiling as she took your hand, and you both headed out, ready to make up for lost time.
After indulging in a delightful dinner, Hanni expressed her desire for a stroll in the nearby park. Without hesitation, you both made your way to the charming park.
As the two of you walked hand in hand, you couldn't help but admire your wife's elegance, feeling the need to compliment her.
"Wow, babe, you look like an absolute princess tonight," you remarked with a smile. Glancing at you, Hanni responded, "Well, I know it, but thanks."
"Alright, my princess," you said playfully, gently squeezing her hand. However, you couldn't help but notice her shivering. The evening air had turned cooler, and it seemed she had forgotten to bring a coat.
Smirking to yourself, you thought, "This woman," before pulling her hand away. Confused, Hanni looked at you as you took off your coat, draping it over her shoulders.
"Huh?" she mumbled, looking at the coat. "I noticed you were shivering, and I'm feeling pretty warm, so you can have the coat," you explained.
"Uh... thanks," she mumbled, a subtle blush gracing her cheeks. Adjusting the coat around her, she continued walking with you.
As you strolled through the park, you noticed her yawning. "Feeling tired?" you inquired, to which she nodded.
"Well then, let's head back home, my princess," you suggested, pulling her a bit closer as you made your way back to the car.
Upon reaching home, you both prepared to exit the car, but you had other plans.
"Hey, wait!" you exclaimed, and Hanni looked at you quizzically. "Let me open the door for you!" you insisted with determination.
She chuckled, remarking, "You're acting like I don't have hands or something."
"No, let me do it!" you insisted, swiftly making your way to open the passenger seat door for her.
As she stepped out, she teased, "Well, you don't have to do it, but thanks, though," prompting a chuckle from you.
"But babe, you deserve some princess treatment," you grinned, cupping her face and gently tracing her skin with your thumbs.
As you both entered the luxurious mansion, Hanni let out an audible groan.
"Ugh, fuck! These heels are killing me," she mumbled, clearly uncomfortable.
Concerned, you approached her. "Are you okay, Han?" you asked, noticing her discomfort.
"Yeah, but this damn heel is a torture device," she groaned, attempting to walk slowly.
A mischievous idea crossed your mind, and you swiftly picked her up in a bridal style.
"What the hell!" she yelped in surprise. "Why did you do that, you crazy woman? You scared the hell out of me!" she complained, though a hint of amusement played in her eyes.
"Okay, okay, princess. Let me rescue you from the clutches of this evil heel. I can't let my princess suffer," you said, carrying her toward your room. Climbing the stairs, you entered your room and gently placed her on the bed.
"There you go," you said, grinning at her. She looked at you, blushing slightly, and you couldn't help but smile. Then you kneel in front of her.
"Hey, what are you planning?" she asked, her eyes widening.
"Huh? Just rescuing you from the shoe tyranny," you replied, taking off her troublesome heel. "Oh, I thought you had something else in mind," she mumbled, blushing even more, and you chuckled.
"Well, now your imaginative mind might come true," you teased, stepping closer and cupping her face.
"Now, I believe it's time for my dessert since I skipped it during dinner," you announced with a playful glint in your eyes. Her expression shifted to surprise and anticipation.
"Have your dessert then," she said, looking at you. You couldn't resist caressing her cheek before giving her a sweet peck on the lips.
"Want more," she responded with a pout. "Does my princess desire more?" you asked, earning a nod from her.
And so, you indulged her with more sweetness.
The next morning, Hanni woke up to a feeling of slight fatigue and soreness, remnants of the delightful activities from the previous night. Glancing behind her, she noticed your absence in bed.
"Typical, that moron never changes," she groaned, scratching her nape. Getting out of bed, something caught her eye.

"Oh my god..." she thought, walking closer to the table adorned with roses and a sparkling diamond ring.
"The fuck..." she mumbled under her breath, then spotted a small note placed next to the gifts. Curiosity led her to pick it up.

caught in a downpour of emotions, can y/n and hanni weather the storm and find the sunshine within their hearts, or will the rain drown out the love they once knew?

the compact car's interior was charged with an unmistakable tension— so thick it seemed to suffocate the space. y/n's fingers danced lightly on the steering wheel, each tap betraying the unspoken frustration between them. the engine's gentle hum only served to underscore the emptiness that engulfed them. it was an orchestra of discontent, performed by a couple on the precipice of an argument.
beyond the car's windows, the passing landscape blurred into an abstract painting. the steady movement of the car contrasted sharply with the tempest brewing inside its confines. an argument had erupted earlier that morning, sparked by a mix of miscommunication and stubbornness. canceling the meticulously planned camping trip was on the verge of becoming a regrettable reality.
hanni's sullen form slouched in the back seat, her gaze fixed on the world outside, but her mind seemed adrift in her own thoughts. her posture betrayed a silent protest, an armor of resentment guarding her emotions. y/n, as the driver, glanced at hanni in the rearview mirror, exhaling a heavy sigh that spoke of exasperation tinged with longing.
"can we just talk?"
in the stillness of the car, y/n's voice broke through the heavy silence like a gentle ripple on a tranquil lake. their words carried a mix of apprehension and a genuine desire to mend the growing rift between them. hanni's response was a wall of silence, a fortress of refusal to engage in conversation. it was a defense mechanism, a way to shield herself from the raw vulnerability that awaited if she allowed the words to flow freely.
y/n's knuckles tightened, the supple leather of the steering wheel yielding slightly to the pressure. it was as if they were trying to hold onto something tangible, to ground themselves amidst the emotional turbulence. their breaths came in shallow, unsteady rhythms, each exhale carrying the weight of unspoken feelings.
in the distance, a meandering stream sparkled like liquid diamonds, caught in the embrace of the waning sunlight. its gentle ripples whispered tales of resilience, a timeless dance that mirrored the ebb and flow of life's currents. outside, tranquility reigned as if nature herself had painted a masterpiece, a serene symphony of colors and textures.
yet, within the car's intimate confines, a different melody played—a storm of emotions gathering momentum, like clouds heavy with unspoken words. the world beyond the windows remained blissfully unaware of the conflict brewing within, its beauty a stark contrast to the emotional struggle that had taken root, silently threading its way through the hearts of the two souls on this uncertain journey.
y/n glanced briefly at hanni, her profile etched with tension and guarded emotions. they saw a glimpse of the vulnerability that lay beneath her defenses, a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. it was a tender vulnerability that mirrored their own, a shared yearning for connection amidst the barriers that had risen between them.
"i don't want to fight," y/n spoke again, their voice softer this time, like a gentle breeze rustling through the leaves outside. "i just— i just want to talk,"
hanni's grip on her emotions tightened, her silence stubborn and unwavering. it was as if she feared that any words she spoke would shatter the fragile peace that barely held their hearts together. the tension inside the car was palpable, a delicate balance of emotions that hung like a delicate thread, one that could snap at any moment.
y/n's heart weighed heavy with the unspoken words that lingered on their tongue. as they parked the car in the secluded camping ground, a deep sigh escaped their lips, dissipating into the crisp air like a wisp of smoke. the tension from the car's interior seemed to linger, a subtle reminder of the emotions left unresolved.
hanni wasted no time, stepping out of the car and striding ahead, the distance between them widening with each step. y/n hesitated for a moment, taking a deep breath to steady themselves, before following quietly in hanni's footsteps. y/n watched her silhouette recede, feeling a mixture of reluctance and determination welling within. with a deep breath, they swung the car door open, the soft creak breaking the lingering silence.
the campground stretched out before them like a vibrant tapestry woven by nature herself. the air carried a hint of earthiness, mingled with the faint aroma of pine. a gentle breeze ruffled the leaves of trees, creating a soothing melody that harmonized with the distant chirping of birds. the ground beneath their feet was soft, a carpet of grass and wildflowers that seemed to welcome their arrival.
hanni's figure was a solitary silhouette against the scenic backdrop, a lone figure standing at the edge of a tranquil lake. its glassy surface reflected the azure sky above, the gentle ripples casting dancing shadows that seemed to playfully waltz upon the water. a wooden dock extended into the lake, its weathered planks echoing the stories of countless moments spent in quiet contemplation.
y/n followed hanni's path, walking a few steps behind, their footsteps light as they ventured into the heart of the campsite. the landscape unfolded like a painting brought to life. wildflowers painted the ground in a vibrant palette of colors, their petals swaying in the breeze like a chorus of delicate dancers. tall trees stood as silent sentinels, their branches reaching out like welcoming arms.
as y/n stood at a distance, their gaze fixed on hanni, a bittersweet smile graced their lips. the soft sunlight cast a warm glow on hanni's figure, illuminating the gentle curve of her shoulders as she rummaged through her bag for her fishing rod. the air seemed to hold its breath, mirroring the delicate balance of emotions between them.
"i'll set up the tent," y/n offered, their voice gentle but carrying a hint of vulnerability. hanni's response was a nonchalant hum, her focus solely on searching for her fishing rod in her bag. the cold shoulder she gave y/n was like an icy gust in the warm summer air, stinging with a subtle rejection.
undeterred, y/n made their way to the campsite, the soft grass cushioning each step. the tent lay folded neatly, an unassuming canvas that would soon become their shelter under the night sky.
as y/n struggled with the tent's assembly, frustration surged through them like a rising tide. their hands trembled with the weight of inadequacy as they cursed under their breath, unable to suppress the growing anger at their perceived incompetence. "fuck," they muttered, the word escaping their lips like a sharp exhale of defeat.
the metal poles seemed to taunt y/n, mocking their attempts to align them correctly. each failed attempt chipped away at their confidence, and a voice in their head berated them for their perceived stupidity. "why can't i do this?" they thought, the self-doubt swirling like a relentless storm within their mind.
but despite their best efforts, y/n's attempts at assembling the tent faltered. the metal poles seemed to have a mind of their own, refusing to align and cooperate as they should. frustration crept in, an unwelcome guest to the intimate tableau that unfolded on the campsite. y/n's brow furrowed, fingers fumbling, as they wrestled with the stubborn contraption before them.
meanwhile, hanni had retrieved her fishing rod from her bag, her focus fixed solely on her own task. the tension in the air seemed to have created an impenetrable barrier between them, a distance that stretched beyond the physical space they occupied. her silence spoke volumes, a deliberate act of withdrawing from the connection that had once been their sanctuary.
y/n's sigh was a mixture of defeat and exasperation, a concession to their lack of expertise in tent assembly. their gaze shifted from the stubborn fabric to the serene lake, a momentary reprieve from the mounting frustration. the ripples on the water's surface seemed to echo the turbulence within their own hearts, a reflection of the unresolved emotions that had brought them to this point.
hanni's muttered grumbles continued, her determination unwavering even as her efforts yielded no results. her brow furrowed deeper, each motion precise yet fruitless. y/n watched her with a mixture of amusement and endearment, their laughter growing as they observed her persistence. it was as if the universe had joined in on the unfolding comedy, for just as they were caught up in the spectacle of hanni's fishing endeavors, the sky itself began to participate.
the first drops of rain fell, their gentle pitter-patter echoing against the backdrop of the campsite. the sound was a soothing prelude to the impending downpour, a melodic symphony of nature's elements. the sky, heavy with rain-laden clouds, had chosen this moment to release its captive droplets. with each raindrop that landed on leaves and grass, y/n's laughter slowly faded, replaced by a sense of wonder at the beauty of nature's orchestra.
y/n's gaze shifted upward, the raindrops refracting the fading light like a curtain of diamonds. the realization that they were about to be caught in the rain hit them, and a glance towards hanni revealed her own recognition of the impending deluge. without needing to exchange words, their eyes met, a silent agreement passing between them.
"hanni!" y/n called out, their laughter now replaced with urgency. "come here!"
hanni's gaze shifted towards y/n, her expression a mix of surprise and curiosity. following y/n's lead, she abandoned her fishing rod and swiftly made her way towards them. as the first raindrops started to cascade down, they both found refuge under a nearby tree, its thick foliage offering some protection from the rain.
the sound of rain hitting the tree leaves and the earth was a symphony in itself, a rhythm that enveloped them in its soothing embrace. y/n and hanni stood side by side, their proximity creating a sense of intimacy that was both comfortable and tinged with the awkwardness of the moment. the silence between them was heavy, a mix of shared amusement and unspoken tension.
y/n's mind raced, searching for a way to ease the tension that hung in the air. with a soft exhale, they turned to hanni. "this rain caught us by surprise, huh?"
hanni's lips quirked into a small smile, a hint of amusement in her eyes. "yeah, i guess nature had other plans."
the words hung in the air, and y/n felt the silence that followed like a heavy curtain. hanni's gaze remained fixed on the rain, avoiding the direct connection y/n was seeking. it was as if she had built a fortress around herself, a defense mechanism to shield her vulnerabilities from the world, and from y/n in particular.
as if sensing the opportunity for connection, y/n glanced around the area, spotting a cluster of branches and leaves. a sudden idea took root, and they began to gather the materials, their movements deliberate yet tentative. y/n's hands worked with a mix of determination and uncertainty, the leaves rustling as they constructed a makeshift shelter under the tree.
hanni, perhaps sensing y/n's desire to bridge the gap between them, joined in quietly. her fingers worked alongside y/n's, the sound of their combined efforts like a shared language. with each leaf placed carefully, the tension between them seemed to lessen, replaced by a sense of unity and purpose.
finally, the makeshift shelter took shape, a canopy of leaves and branches that offered some respite from the relentless rain. y/n and hanni ducked under it, their clothes already soaked from the earlier rain. the space was cramped, but the warmth of their closeness felt like a refuge amidst the storm.
as they huddled together beneath the shelter they had created, raindrops drumming softly on the leaves above, a sense of accomplishment washed over them. their faces were still wet from the rain, but the smiles that graced their lips spoke of a shared triumph. the awkwardness that had lingered between them seemed to dissipate, replaced by a renewed sense of connection forged through mutual effort.
the silence between them, now less heavy with tension, still held a certain vulnerability that they both acknowledged with silent glances. y/n's fingers traced the damp leaf's intricate surface, their gaze wandering along the pattern of raindrops. hanni, too, looked down, her focus on a small insect seeking shelter amidst the leaves.
taking a deep breath, y/n finally broke the quiet, their voice gentle but carrying a weight of sincerity. "i'm sorry about the tent," they admitted, their eyes still fixed on the leaf. "i should've been able to set it up properly, but..."
hanni's shoulders relaxed slightly, a soft sigh escaping her lips. she met y/n's gaze, a mix of understanding and acceptance in her expression. "it's not just about the tent," she replied, her voice equally gentle. "we both played a part in this... argument."
the tension that had clouded their interaction earlier seemed to have loosened its grip, leaving behind a space that was ripe for a real conversation. under the shelter they had created, a comfortable silence enveloped them, the rhythmic sound of raindrops on leaves a soothing backdrop. it was a moment that felt tender and fragile, like the calm after a storm, both outside and within.
y/n took another deep breath, summoning the courage to breach the emotional barrier that had kept them apart. hanni's gaze remained focused on the ground, a mixture of vulnerability and guardedness evident in her posture. the atmosphere was charged with a blend of apprehension and a desire to mend the rift that had emerged between them.
"hey," y/n started again, their voice soft and sincere, "i don't want us to stay like this, you know?"
hanni's lips parted, but she didn't immediately respond. the silence held weight, an acknowledgment that they needed to address the underlying issues that had brought them to this point.
"i understand that we had our disagreement," y/n continued, their tone gentle, "but i don't want it to define our whole trip. we've faced challenges before, and we've always found a way to work through them, together."
hanni finally looked up, meeting y/n's gaze. her eyes held a mixture of longing and uncertainty, as if she feared the vulnerability that lay ahead. y/n's words had touched something deep, stirring memories of shared experiences and the strength they'd drawn from one another.
"i'm sorry," hanni whispered, her voice nearly lost in the sound of the rain. "i know i let my frustration get the best of me earlier. i shouldn't have shut you out like that."
y/n nodded, a soft smile easing onto their lips. "i'm sorry too, for not being able to set up that tent. i was frustrated with myself, not with you."
hanni's shoulders eased, the weight of her own guilt beginning to lift. "we're in this together, right?"
y/n reached out, their fingers brushing against hanni's hand in a gentle reassurance. "always."
the simplicity of that word, always, held so much meaning, a reaffirmation of their commitment to face challenges hand in hand. the rain continued to fall outside, but within their makeshift shelter, it was as if the storm had washed away the walls that had separated them.
hanni's lips broke into a tender smile, a spark of playfulness lighting up her gaze. "so, about that tent," she began, her voice laced with a teasing tone that carried warmth.
y/n's laughter danced in the air, a genuine expression of relief at the shift in their exchange. "yeah, perhaps we'll have better luck once the rain decides to take a break."
as if in sync, their eyes turned towards the rain, watching the drops create ripples on the lake's surface. hanni's fingers traced an absent pattern on y/n's arm before she leaned her head gently against y/n's shoulder, finding solace in the simple act of being close. the rain continued its gentle symphony around them, a backdrop to the quiet moments that seemed to stretch, offering them the space they needed to rebuild what had temporarily wavered.
minutes passed, an unspoken understanding flowing between them. y/n's hand found its way to hanni's, their fingers interlacing in a silent promise. the rain outside may have been unrelenting, but beneath their shared shelter, it was as if the world had softened, cocooning them in a realm of their own.
as they remained nestled under their makeshift canopy, a feeling of peace settled upon them, a reminder of the unbreakable bond they shared. and in the midst of the rain's soothing embrace, y/n finally turned to hanni, their eyes locking in a moment of perfect connection.
"i love you," y/n whispered, the words carrying a depth of emotion that transcended the simplicity of their syllables.
hanni's heart swelled, the tenderness in y/n's eyes an affirmation of the love they felt for each other. a soft smile curved on hanni's lips as they met y/n's gaze, their voice a gentle echo of the sentiment that had been hanging in the air.
"i love you too."

Everyone in your small spread of a community knew about the tale of the forest. You've been told of its wits and games, how the shadows always lie. It was the most essential life lesson your parents had to teach you as a child, even before teaching you how to feed yourself.
Never trust the forest.
It was always the number one rule, and therefore, it was always on your mind. This sick game of oppressed "what ifs-" had led to your twisted insights on the woodland, causing a connection of curiosity to stem from deep within.
It fascinated you. How could something so pure and raw as nature be so cruel and dangerous to the wonders that cohabitate with it? How could mother nature simply allow herself to corrupt the good creatures she's tried so hard to bring up?
Capitalism blossoms in every aspect of this earth, a hierarchy of social imbalance based on stereotypical assumptions and power. They always neglect the very aspects that keep them afloat, like nature and its natural decomposers.
You guess that's why imbalance strives on the blood of the incompetent, and you refuse to turn a blind eye to that. Not now, not ever.
"Y/n, where's Maxwell?"
The same impending call of your mother rings out, her voice cutting a clean slate above what was your arguing sister and brother.
"What?!" You respond, sitting up at the mention of Maxwell, your beloved companion and best friend.
"Maxwell? Have you seen him?"
"Uhhh…" You take a second to respond, eyes realigning with the foot of your bed. "Not recently! No?"
Placing the chisel and canvas of your constructed wooden statue down, you raise yourself from your bed with a curious gaze. Where was Maxwell?
The normally occupant spot by the foot of your bed was acquainted with the mangled of a deer's metatarsal bone and a patch of thin black and white hairs. His wool blanket, knitted by your mother, was in a mess, slumped to one half of your worn out mattress and the normally chewed on wood of your bedpost had no fresh saliva on its brutally mauled exterior.
"Maxwell!" You call, only to receive no tip off on his whereabouts. Inching yourself out of bed, you feel a certain dun fill your ears at the sudden sound of what could only be Maxwell's untrimmed nails scattering on the wooden floor.
Shuffling to the only wooden flooring within your shack of a house, you find your best friend, and dog, sitting and staring at the front door.
"What's up bud?" You pause to observe him, not a single bone in his body ached to move, not even his constantly wagging tail. "Do you need to go to the toilet?" You ask, moving to rest your hand on the rusted metal hook you use as a handle.
But still. No response.
"Max?" You mumble, eyes dragging from the tips of his gone pointed ears to the sudden twitch of his moistened snout.
"I'll let you out, but only for a minute. Make your business fast, alright boy?" You give the flat of his head a quick pat before opening the door.
It was apparent that with patience, came eagerness too- as Maxwell had immediately scurried out of the door, wasting no time in looking back as you only watched his silhouette fade into the void of darkness beyond your residence.
A deep feeling of something uneasy settled into your stomach almost instantly. You had already known you had just made the wrong choice.
"Y/n? Did you find him?!"
"Ahh…" you breathe out, eyes frantically dotting around, your vision trying to pry into the small crooks of the shadows as they obscure all light.
Your eyes remain trained on the darkness as the small of scraggy footsteps invade your ears. "Y/n?" It was your mother, you could tell by the rasp of her normally dried throat. Water wasn't all that easy to obtain for your household.
“Yeah…” You pause momentarily “Hey mom, I'll be right back… I'm just getting some fresh air” and with your final words, you had slipped past the poor excuse of a front door and into the chill of the pitched night.
These surroundings felt foreign at night. The friendly wave the grass usually gave you during your walks with Maxwell was now wagging its finger at you, taunting you with the curl of their bladed tips. Even the trees seemed like giant legs, planted firm and impenetrable within the soil like a knife to a gut. The grass was still wet from yesterday's downpour anyway- a certain moisture hung in the air around you, almost suffocating you with the earthy scent.
The thud of your front door hitting your weathered door frame had you jump a small distance forward, your shoes seeming to soak the small droplets of rain that had yet to evaporate from the ground. A small huff bypasses your lips as you begin to move- your steps seemingly careless as you wonder towards the last location you had seen Maxwell- the tree line that boarded the Rimwell Forest and what layed beyond it.
In all honesty, no one from your village had made much of an effort to barricade a defence between your location of eternal residence and the eerie forest beyond. No walls, no warnings, no fences, no nothing. There were as many precautions as there were punishments.
You were only ever to be told to never enter the forest, and if you had entered, you were to be forgotten about till your return- if you ever return.
No one cares about some inconvenient disappearance, especially when the missing person is someone of your social ranking within Croydon. You were merely the daughter of a manual labourer and a forgotten mistress. No one could care less about who you were, especially with your dad suffocating in his ever-building debt.
You've seen the way the poorer families thrash around in a cheap mess, their voices ringing out amongst the whole town due to its small size. Desperate knocks on everyone's front doors would go ignored constantly from the moment they realise this was another missing person case. Parents, wives, husbands, and even close friends to the missing person would demand an investigation, possibly even a board meeting in the small gazebo your poor excuse of a neighbourhood had. They were always a mess, but the responses were always worse.
“They did this to themself”
“They're not of our priority”
“Did they contribute to our society?”
“Are they of any significance to me?”
It always seemed as if the self-proclaimed president of Croydon was too preoccupied with developing what he'd want to administer as “The perfect village.” As he saw it, if they weren't of much importance, they were a lost cause. Someone could always fill the missing gaps, someone less or more able, because at the end of the day, one missing person wasn't much of a problem.
When it came to those of a higher stance in the village, however, it was a whole new story.
Though, thinking this back over… maybe rushing out after your dog wasn't the best idea. You recognise him to resemble a child in a blacksmiths- take your eyes off of him for one moment, and he's gone- but more often than not, he always returns. Maybe you should've had some patience before having left only a few seconds after him. Who knows? Maybe he's already back home?
With a defeated sigh, you look around. Your eyes had completely adjusted to the unusually dark shadows the canopy provided by this point, allowing you to see some finer details in the area. Above you laid a shelter of extended limbs, leaves folded over one another in a shambled pattern. The thick tendrils of tree roots protrude from the ground and arch their backs, a faint rustling sound from your left, then to your right echoed around in this earthy labyrinth.
It was safe to say your hair was standing on end with how eerie everything had gotten. Your senses kicked themselves into overdrive as you examined everywhere you stepped. Every mushroom and ivory bush was consciously noted until something oddly peculiar happened…
“Wasn't that-” You mumbled, your voice lowers into a whisper as you blink at the base of a tree. It stood tall and proud like nothing you've ever seen before- except you have.
That very same carving in the tree- one that almost resembled a rabbit- you could've sworn you saw that a few minutes ago. Had you been walking in circles, perhaps? Or are you just losing your mind?
The cold touch of an old man's finger runs down your spine, a painful shiver following pursuit. Your hand almost darts to the location of the chill as it deteriorates almost as quickly as it had appeared. Your shoulders tense defensively, and your breath hitches within the dry and tightened of your windpipes.
You already knew you weren't alone anymore. Your sixth sense had kicked in. It felt suffocating as you tried to remain as calm and vigilant as possible.
If the rumours about this forest were true, then you sure as hell weren't going down without getting as far away as possible first. Doing a U-turn and running back the way you came from would at least put you somewhere closer to home if you were to die. That way, maybe your family could find you, and maybe find some closure-
What?
You tense again at the sound of a frail twig snapping, a vision of what could be lurking around had you gulping once again. Though, there was something about this sound that made it far more distinct, far more disturbing.
It was as if it was right behind you.

Update schedule: I will try my best to update every Saturday. However, due to events in my life, not every update will be guaranteed. Additionally, on some weeks, there will be a dual post if you're lucky :)
Posts for the first few chapters will be at an irregular schedule as I'd like to have as many people caught up in this before the real adventure begins :^

synopsis: what do you call someone you're not dating but someone in your arms? hanni asks that question herself often but always comes to the same answer: which is you.

honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
y/n, are u not coming to see me?
i miss you already...
haven't seen you for a month.
how's ur org doing?
received.
you find yourself smiling as you read her messages, it seems like just the casual hi and hello's, the simple updates that friends are supposed to be sharing with each other aren't enough to satisfy the pham's need to be able to see your face, hear your voice and touch you. she's right actually, the last time you've seen each other was a month ago, before your journalism organization started being busy once again and her life has been a lot more boring ever since. there have been lots of restless nights where you think to yourself that there's no such rest as good as hanni's hugs, you really need her embrace, her arms around your waist.
god i miss her…
you can't help but think to yourself whilst you sit in one of the journalism organization room swivel chairs, working in front of a computer for the next online publishing of the university's news publishing website. it's almost 9pm, the lights are dim and the last person who you were with inside the room was the radio broadcasting group's director — danielle marsh, who then left with the sports writer kang haerin. they've been going in and out together for the past couple of months, which went unnoticed by some members of the faculty as it was seen as “typical” and very on character for them to do so.
you weren't new to that thing too, it's pretty obvious they've got a thing for each other and they're pretty open about it if anything.
unlike you.
just seeing the two made you miss hanni so much more, and it's quite selfish to think of such things because everyone, including the sane part of your brain knew that there's nothing between the two of you except for friendship — worn like a cloak to hide a secret. you can't remember why this whole arrangement between you and hanni started, when did you start sharing kisses? when did you start taking her home? what was the reason you visited her place even if it was late at night? why were you even so adamant about being there for her when she needs someone? why did both of you agree not to put any meaning behind these things? those thoughts were at the back of your mind, it shouldn't matter actually and when you think about it you try not to pry yourself about how it should matter that much — at the end of the day, things are not going to change.
if the walls of your room could talk, your secrets would no longer be something shared between you and hanni.
well, you've been on thin ice for such a long time — at this point, you assume that everyone in your organization and her club already has an idea about your relationship with hanni and are quite in a stump about it but that's too far from the truth, in fact — there were hardly anyone who notices the little things you do. everytime you think about her, the shared secrets together, the things about you that only she knows — you can't even find a reason to hate yourself for entertaining something people won't find appealing. it's been so long, why would you even go back to where it all started to stop this from escalating even further when you could just go with it until the end.
you know, you're going to hold onto this till the end, thinking that there will be that time where you and hanni can settle things down and accept what needs to be accepted and leave what needs to be left behind.
maybe, things will get better eventually…
you just hope you can stick with this until — you can finally call her… yours.
honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
hm…
i'll think about it.
miss me already?
the org's doing just fine, hbu?
sent.
you drop your phone on the table as you close the tabs of the computer and then turn the computer off. you stay on the chair for a few more minutes, waiting for her reply as you fiddle the hem of your shirt with your fingers. quite nervous, confused as to why you were nervous — you can't help but just laugh, not having any explanation as to why you're suddenly acting like a giddy teenager girl over your so-called "friend".
crap… you think to yourself, it's really late now but you were hoping to see her again, at least even for just an hour or-so.
i wonder what she's up to now.
honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
oh! the club's doing well!
we just finished our project and were hoping to release it soon.
you know how giddy i get about it, right?
i wish you were here with me so i can tell you all about it.
received.
you feel the familiar heat crawling up to your cheeks, you tap at the screen only for a few seconds and then pick it up. you wonder why, even before you kissed her, no matter how many times you tried setting yourself up with other girls — it wasn't effective at all. behind those words you told other people is hanni lingering at the back of your mind, the image of her face clear in your eyes until you just gave up, leaving yourself falling into her arms.
just how many times have i tried?
i can't even remember.
you thought then just gave up.
honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
yeah…
i wish i was there, where are you anyway?
i mean, maybe i can come and see you.
right?
sent.
you stare at her message for a few seconds then you stand up and grab your bag that's been left unattended on the floor for a few hours since you first started working on the articles. you have absolutely no idea about what you're doing, it's just you doing whatever once again and doing it in the most random time ever but that's just because you missed hanni so much.
it won't hurt, right?
spending just some time to see her again.
honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
wait, really?
i mean…
that's great!
but what about your roommate?
will minji not look for you?
received.
that's the thing, minji has been your roommate for almost two years — yes, that long. she's practically like your sibling at this point, one that you can always trust and lean on when you need a shoulder to hold onto or someone to cry on. minji used to be also a part of the film making organization in your university. she used to work with hanni on some projects for school until she left to focus on writing her own stuff on her own accord. so, minji is someone hanni already knew before she met you.
minji knows your thing with hanni and is at first troubled by it, but then it's not like it's something unethical, right? it's just secrets and a relationship with no label, it doesn't hurt anyone aside from you and hanni. that's the thing, minji feels bad that you subject yourself to self-harm — which is a relationship where you have no right to feel jealous about. she knows it sucks, how many times have she asked you: “what’s really between you and hanni?” and you always answer her. “nothing, we're close friends.” even though she's seen you cuddling with hanni on your couch, awfully closer than normal.
she worries your mother might find out even before you make it official between the two of you,
you know, she knows you're screwed if it were to happen.
minji has basically given up prying her way into your business but still tries to watch out whenever you feel sad or frustrated. she's always there when you need her — she's obviously a great friend that even your parents trust.
honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
nah, don't worry
i’ll tell her.
she’ll be alright.
where are you?
sent.
honey ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ
great, i’m here at my condominium
just, you know? waiting…
hope you come here asap
;)))
received.
you grab your backpack and sling to your shoulder, making your way past the rows of computers lined and exiting the room. you see the dim corridor, your eyes follow along the lines of doors and the straight path to the stairways, and under the dark hall the pictures of when you first met hanni lingered at the back of your mind, right at the end of the corridor.
r u carps, min?
hey minji,
bro
i won't be home 2night
take care of the dorm and heat up the pizza
i got some money under the flower base and just take it to order sum whatever…
lov ur roommate, y/n
sent.
and with a blink, you come back to reality and start running your way to the stairs and reaching the ground floor — rushing as soon as possible to get to the open parking lot where your scooter is parked, you open your top box with your keys and immediately place your bag inside before locking it once again.
r u carps, min?
dude wtf?
why now? ur mom will be here tomorrow.
y/n?
hey!
BRO!!!!
ur such an asshole
you know that?
come on…
ur dead
received.
as the engine ignites, all your worries are pushed back behind before the motor accelerates and you finally find your way outside the campus then to her condominium.
“you’ve been away for so long.” hanni grumbles, arms wrapping themselves around your torso, you laugh at her expression, a cute pout adoring her pink lips and her eyes full of stars inside of them. it's almost like she has the universe in her pupils. “only for a month by the way, i’m guessing you really feel lonely here.” you tell her, raising your brows at her direction with a smile on your lips. she nods, snuggling closer to your body on the bed, she feels like a koala the way she couldn't let go of your figure.
“of course! aside from my parents, you're really the only one i want here with me.” she says, well it's nothing but the truth but hearing it made something inside you tremble. it's something you cannot understand but something you feel very deep inside, you only smile at her.
she could bring anyone she wants here.
and you would still not be able to tell her nothing, because you have no right to do so.
she's free to do whatever she wants to do.
and that must be your fault, right?
you place a hand on top of her head, patting her soft hair under your palm. “seriously, this is why you feel lonely. having a friend or two here other than me wouldn't be so bad.” you express out of genuine feelings, though it's nice to know you're the only one she wants, you can't help but feel guilty that you're making her wait or expect too much to the point she's not allowing anyone inside of her life aside from you.
at the end of the day, you only want her to be happy.
but that's not the case, for a relationship that doesn't have any label — hanni seems committed to it.
you haven't even said anything but she's already sure she's yours, and it honestly makes you feel bad even if it is a mutual feeling you two both share.
“i really only want you…” hanni buries her head on your neck, snuggling close for warmth and you can't help but wrap your arm around her, to keep her close as if anyone was going to take her away from you if you don't. “it's okay, i won't be away for any longer anymore. i promise.” you whisper, you feel hanni nod her head and feel her lips against your skin as she speaks. “promise me you’ll be here with me forever?” you look down on her, eyes directly on her cheek, her face hidden on your neck. “i will.” you smile at her.
maybe, you are really that tired that when you open your eyes it's already 9am in the morning yet hanni is still wrapped around your arms. the sun shines so much brighter on days like this, it must have been her presence beside you and everyday should have been like this if things were different.
there is still a chance for you to change it.
you start to see it.
“are you sure i can come to you and minji’s place today?” hanni asks, looking up from her plate of food, she tilts her head as she asks, eyes meeting your own pair. “well yeah, you know minji would never mind.” you say, bringing your utensils down before smiling at her direction. “besides, it’s not a busy day today.” you add.
you take the helmet in hanni’s hands and help her wear it on her head, making sure it's strapped tight. as your hands let go of the helmet, you notice hanni staring at your face and you raise your brows at her. “what?” you ask. hanni giggles and shakes her head. “nothing, i just… feel giddy about being with you today after what felt like forever.” she says and you almost saw the entire galaxy inside of her eyes the way it shines, the wait the light sparkles, you can't help but be mesmerized.
you nod at her and place a kiss on her cheek. “of course, it's not everyday we get to be like this together.” you huff and hop on the motor, hanni follows and wraps her arms around your waist.
when you get to your shared apartment’s front door you notice the weird aura of the place, you hesitate to open the door as you stand still looking at the wooden entrance, hanni peeks behind you and wonders why you haven't touched the doorknob.
now… i must be paranoid.
it's oddly quiet or somehow, there's a strange presence looming around the place and you don't know what it was.
you take the doorknob in your hand and feel its cold surface, sending shivers on your spine. you twist it and enter inside, slowly stepping a foot and looking around to see if anyone beside minji is present, hanni follows quietly but is still confused. your eyes widen when you spot your mom standing by the living room and seemingly pacing around, in panic and quite in a rush, impatient.
you feel a rush of adrenaline pumping in your veins as you immediately take a step back, pull hanni outside then close the door gently. “w-what’s wrong? is there an intruder inside?” hanni asks, worried that there might actually be an intruder, which ironically turned out to be your mom. you laugh sheepishly and scratch the back of your head. “uh no? i just remembered that minji wasn't around and… we can go grab food somewhere before coming back—” your words are cut off when the door opens to, none other than minji.
“minji..?” hanni looks behind you, to the door as minji stands with a hard expression on her face.
“where have you been?” minji asks, her tone is strict and impatient for an immediate answer, her eyes bore behind you and then dart back at hanni. “and why is hanni here?” she adds to the pile of questions.
you turn around and shake your head. “ah, i didn't know you were here… crap, i was at her place yesterday and i thought i’d hang around with her here ‘cause you wouldn't mind, right?” you shrug, minji kept her serious face but sighs, rubbing her temple with her fingers. “y/n, i won't of course. but you know who will?” she says, clearly frustrated.
hanni squints her eyes at minji. “who?”
“her mom, she's here today, waiting for y/n inside.” minji answers, you flinch at the idea before turning your head at hanni who frowns and looks away. “i didn't know she'd be here!” you whisper aggressively, rubbing your face with your hand.
“dude, i messaged you yesterday. you didn't even bother reading it.” minji argues, which was the truth but you were riding your scooter to hanni's place when you received the message — it was the reason you didn't have the time to read it.
with your face buried on your palm, you grumbled. “dude, i was riding my scooter that time…”
hanni sighs and places her hand on your shoulder, you put your head up and look at her. “i’m leaving for now i guess, you'd be in more trouble if she sees me.” hanni says, giving you a small smile.
you furrow your brows, you think to yourself that there must be a way — there's something you can definitely do, doesn't matter what there has to be something!
you stare at her, pursing your lips before reaching out for her hand and shaking your head. “no, you'll stay. don't worry i’ll take care of this, please just stay.” you tell her, minji’s expression turns into confusion — as if, your ways of salvaging you and hanni's relationship seemed absurd to minji's level of understanding.
“wait? y/n are you crazy? you're gonna get you both in trouble!” minji says, already scolding you even before the trouble happens. you look at her and shake your head, holding hanni’s hand tight. “no, that's my mom — i know her, we’ll be alright. i promise.” you look back at hanni to give her a small smile again, caressing the soft skin of her hand under yours to soothe the unstable feeling stressing her out.
the door opens once again but this time it's your mother who exits and her eyes dart at the three figures standing. “y/n? where have you been, young lady!” she yells, you laugh and look at her with a sheepish expression before pulling hanni slightly closer beside you. “i stayed somewhere only for a night. i swear, no troubles.” your mother seems to notice hanni’s presence beside you and raises her brow towards hanni, her scary aura unchanging.
hanni took a deep breath, opening her lips as if about to say a word but she fails miserably when your mother glares at her. “and who is this girl?” your mother asks, her voice asking irritatedly. you look at hanni before wrapping your arm around her torso, getting a look of doubt from your mother but mostly directed to hanni, who gulps a lump inside her throat. “hi — i’m y/n’s —”
“she's my girlfriend, mom.” you grin at your mother, hanni and minji both looked shocked at the sudden revelation — you were confident, this time you’re sure and there's no way you’ll take it back again, not this time or never again. hanni looks at you and her eyes shake when it meets your mother's gaze.
“oh, what..?” minji mutters, feeling her head spinning, she blinks in confusion and looks at the three people all facing one another. hanni blushes, aggressively gripping the hem of your shirt, looking up at you as if you said something crazy which is indeed crazy, out of character even.
“oh, really?” your mom adds, her voice softens but her eyes remain the same.
hanni looks at your mom, nodding her head gently.
“yes, i’m your daughter’s girlfriend, ma'am. nice to meet you…” hanni smiles, still quite hesitant, like a curious cat dipping its paws in something it doesn't know — but in hanni’s case she has her hand sticking out for a handshake.
somehow, your mother's eyes softened or is hanni just deluding herself into believing so?
she hopes, your mom did — because she shouldn't be seeing things, she's still sane after all!
yes, your mother did soften her gaze.
hanni may not be that crazy after all.
just a little, just for you.
“yeah! you're okay with it, right mom? hanni’s a very nice girl and she lets me sleep at her place when i stay at school late and she cooks me breakfast and she helps me with my homeworks. she helps me clean my room, helps me with my laundry and —” even before you finish rambling about how hanni basically keeps your life stable your mom raises her index finger to your way to shush you down before she steps forward to take a closer look at hanni.
your mother looks at hanni’s hand and reaches for it before shaking it, feeling hanni’s sweating and trembling hand. “nice to meet you, is my daughter too much work? i know she's a little handful sometimes.” you slump your shoulders as you mother jokes, hanni laughs— you notice the change in her voice, feeling your girlfriend starting to relax herself. “she isn't, i’m happy to be helping her.” hanni answers, feeling her cheeks flush and her blood boiling on her face.
“that's good to know, she's very dependent.”
minji nods and huffs. “yes, she is!” you roll your eyes at her.
you mother lets go of hanni’s hand and turns away to walk inside the door, but before she enters she calls for minji. “help me arrange the table.” she says, to which minji followed almost immediately.
hanni feels like laughing, there's a certain type of warmth blooming inside of her when she realizes what just happened. she blinks only for a bit, trying to do something to make sure she isn't daydreaming or dreaming whilst asleep — and she had just confirmed that she is indeed awake, none of what happened was fake and the warmth of your arm proved it.
“hanni.” you call out to her. hanni puts a hand on her mouth and looks up at you, starstrucked to actually see your mother up close.
“i’m your girlfriend?” she asks, to make sure you're not bluffing.
you smile and nod, giving her the type of gaze that means “i love you”.
“you are, you're my girlfriend.” you tell her.
hanni feels like crying this time, there's something about it that she can't explain — something about finally being able to hold onto something that isn't a thin thread of hope for something that will break apart in no time, without her knowing. something about finally being able to actually express her feelings without holding back sends waves of relief inside of hanni.
why has she not thought of this earlier? why didn't you tell her that earlier?
hanni embraces you in a tight hug, her face buried in your shoulder as she sobs. “oh my god…” you feel her speak. you laugh, petting her head. “hey now, i promise i’m not lying.”
hanni sniffs and looks up at you. “i love you.” she whispers, eyes covered with tears and cheeks are bright red, before breaking into a wide smile. “i love you too.” you tell her back before giving her a small kiss on her lips.

friendly fire
kim minji x fem! reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis: ever since you bought a new game for your ps5, you've been spending a lot of your free time with hanni, the only other member who knew how to play properly. minji gets tired of it eventually.
others + genre: 6th member y/n, 04 liner y/n, outgoing (and very loud) y/n, straightforward y/n...., 04 line just a bunch of bffs who parent maknae line togt tbh, fluffyflfuufyflfhfyf
notes: requested!, nothing much.. just hope u guys enjoy.. perhaps not proof read, VERY SHORT‼️
Tumblr media
"hanni behind you!"
"y/n i need a revive i'm behind the factory!"
"shit!"
"good game... didn't know players could control tanks..."
"yeah, well! now we know i guess.."
it had been a while since you spent a good portion of your first paycheck on a new ps5 and a first-person shooter game. and ever since then you and hanni have spent every hour of free time the group had playing.
which hadn't been an issue for you and minji!
or so you thought.
promotions for omg finally ended, so you and hanni intended to complete the game's storyline by the end of the day. you both slept early the night before, and getting on the game was the first thing you both did after taking a bath and eating breakfast.
unlike the rest of the girls, minji had schedules that day as a special mc, so she left the dorms an hour after you and hanni started your little game marathon. (neither of you forgetting a cheek kiss goodbye, despite hanni's disgust)
now you see, minji doesn't really get jealous easily, and if she did, she'd rationalize it without having the need to talk to you about it (not wanting to bother you). but with you spending almost every hour of your day playing with hanni, and doing so for the past week, it's been building up, and today was the breaking point.
when minji left the dorms, you were on the console, and when she arrived, you were still playing. the proximity between you and hanni didn't help much either, but you get cold easily and both of you were too lazy to get up and grab a blanket.
"oh! welcome back, min!" minji's worries left for a split second hearing your voice and a smile grew as she removed her shoes and coat in front of the door.
she sat on the couch behind you and hanni, trying her best to observe the gameplay, but ultimately failing as her eyes glued on your right arm intertwined with hanni's left.
"fuck i really need to pee.."
"let minji play for a bit she can cover."
hanni was gonna regret suggesting that.
"oh true." you turned around to face minji and handed her your controller before running to the bathroom. "PLAY WELL FOR ME, MIN!"
you should win a world record for fastest female peeing, 'cause it barely felt like a minute before you came back to the living room, drying your washed hands off with tissue.
"what the hell! i'm trying to detonate the explosives but someone's shooting at me! minji can you get them!" hanni exclaimed in fury as she focused every fiber of her being into the game's side puzzle.
your eyebrows furrowed as your eyes traveled to minji's half of the screen. she was definitely shooting someone! but somehow whenever minji's character shoots, the health bar on hanni's screen depletes.
realizing what was happening in front of you, you bursted out into laughter, hanni's face full of confusion and focus, minji's blank with a light smile.
"babe you're shooting hanni."
"WHAT THE HELL!"
but by the time you pointed it out it was too late. hanni's character died, marking it a game over.
"sorry about that, pham." minji managed to let out in between laughter. you sat beside her and set the game back to the main menu before resting your left arm around her shoulders.
"yeah.... sure.. i'm gonna take a nap." hanni playfully glared at minji before disappearing into the hallways to enter her shared room. "you lovebirds have fun!"
you let out a sigh of relaxation as you felt your girlfriend's head rest on your chest, your left arm pulling her closer. you heard a hum of satisfaction from minji as you kissed the top of her head before resting your cheek on her.
"you knew you were shooting hanni's character didn't you?"
you didn't hear any response, but a soft chuckle instead, which was more than enough to confirm your theory (that you thought you were crazy for to think of it).
"i love you, you know?" you felt her softly nod a yes before replying with a very soft "i love you too." that almost got drowned out by the game's background music.
"we'll deal with hanni's game progress later. how was work today?"

the girl from library
Tumblr media
content: non!idol, highschool au, introverted x extroverted, wlw, popularity.
genre: fluff, a little angst.
WARNING: slight mention of bullying.
ENGLISH ISNT MY FIRST LANGUAGE
kang haerin x fem!reader
˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
Y/n was those people Haerin avoided, loud, happy and too much highlighted for her liking. Those people that everyone loves and wants to be friend with. Y/n was friend with the school sweetheart Danielle, the gossip girl Hyein and the everyone crush Minji.
They weren't bad people thought, she just didn't like them because they were in good terms with her bullies.
Haerin only had one friend Hanni and she really didn't minded. She was happy with Hanni, even if the girl was friends with those people, she was still caring and a good friend to her, defending her against bullies.
Y/n sighed as she once again looked everywhere for the book she was looking for.
She wasn't the type of people to really enjoy reading, but she had to read a book for her french class and she didn't wanted to fail. So here she was searching for the book she needed.
"Where is it-?" She cut herself and finally found what she was looking for quickly taking a sit in the library.
Y/n wasn't aware of the cat eyed girl staring at her the whole time forgetting she was reading at first. She would lie if she said that she didn't find Y/n attractive.
After a few minutes staring, Danielle entered the library as she hurried to wrap her arms around Y/n's shoulder. She told her something and the other eyes opened in shock one before they left the library in hurry.
Haerin glanced at them before returning to the book she was reading before.
"Haerin!" The cat eyed girl turn around, to find her best friend and only friend Hanni, running toward her with a big smile. "There's a party at Minji's." The shorter girl announced with a knowing smile on her face.
Haerin shook her head no, knowing what she meant.
"But please! You know how Minji is my crush since for ever! And Y/n will be here too! Please just this time!"
"No, I won't go."
"Please, Haerin. You're my best friend. You're supposed to support me in this!" Hanni said in a dramatic tone while putting her hand on her forehead. Haerin roll her eyes as Hanni continued begging her.
She hated party, but yet she was here watching her best friend blushing and giggling in front of her long time crush Minji. Maybe it was alcohol or the realisation that she needed to make a move, but Hanni was determined to get something from Minji this night.
She sighed as she decided to take some fresh air, hoping that Minji wasn't an asshole and won't do weird things to her best friend.
She sat down on the high sidewalk in front of the house. It was a little cold but not enough to be shivering. It was calm, the loud music muffed playing in the background.
She felt nice and peaceful.
"Why are you here?" She heard a soft and sweet voice, a calm voice and angelic one.
She turned her head slightly, only for her to met two pair of eyes staring down at her sat body.
Y/n.
Haerin didn't given her an answer, she just glared back at the trees' leaf moving slowly, being lighted by the street lights and the moonlight.
Y/n head tilted and her eyebrows frowned in confusion. It was the very first time someone as treated her this kind of way before.
"Kang Haerin? Right?" She asked once again with a polite and sweet smile getting closer of the girl, who just nodded staring at her.
Y/n was aware of Haerin's staring. She often catches her looking at her, and Y/n founded it cute.
"Well, enjoy the wind." She said with a smile, despairing back into the the house, her silhouette getting drown in the drunk teenagers.
"You did not tell her that?" Hyein said with a scoff. "'Enjoy the wind, gna gna. Are you dumb!?" She said pushing Y/n by the shoulder in fake anger.
"Hyein." Danielle said while laughing at the show in front of her while shaking her head. "Leave her alone..."
"Yeah, leave her alone. I got the number of her crush's best friend." Minji said proudly, there were no link between the both things she announced but she still said it.
"I get it thanks." Y/n affirmed rolling her eyes as Hyein was still calling her 'dumb' and 'stupid for not getting the girl's number'.
Hanni was watching them from afar, not understanding any of words they were saying, she glanced back at Haerin with a pleading look.
"You can go alone. Why do I have to be with you?" The cat girl asked in annoyance.
"Because you're my best friend and I need you to survived her friends stares." The shorter explained getting up as she grabbed Haerin's arm.
That's until Minji and Y/n were already walking toward their table.
Minji was clearly flirting with Hanni in front of the other, that made Haerin embarrassed and leave. But she didn't even noticed that Y/n followed her to the library.
"Kang Haerin." The taller girl turn around glancing at the girl in front of her.
"Kim Y/n." She answered, not as rude as she was at the party, it made Y/n's stomach exploded in every way possible and imaginable. Her heart beating faster.
"I was wondering something." The cat girl gave her a look meaning that she was waiting for the question. "Do you like girls, by any chance?"
Haerin was taken aback by Y/n boldness and straightforward nature. But she nodded, not giving an proper response. But Y/n didn't cared, she was happy that Haerin even give her time of day.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?"
Silence.
"Why?"
Y/n tilted her head in confusion and then smile.
"Because, i want to get to know you better."
Silence again.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"I said yes. I will go on a date with you, Kim Y/n."
The shorter girl smiled happily, it made somehow Haerin feel something, something different. Something different, a feeling that she liked.
"Give me your phone."
"Why?"
"So I can give you my number, dummy." Y/n giggled as she handed her hand out waiting for Haerin to give her the phone as the cat girl give her.
She took a quick selfie, tapped on the screen and hurried to give Haerin her phone back.
"See you around, Kang Haerin." And she left.
When Haerin glanced down at her phone, she blushed at the contact name.
'y/n gf <3'.

Hanni Pham - Not so secret crush
Pairing: Hanni Pham x Female Reader
Fandom: NewJeans
Requested by: Anonymous
Request: can you write a fluffy oneshot where Hanni is a big fan of One Direction (Idk the fandom 😭) and the Reader is a Taylor Swift fan and they dedicate 'Perfect' and 'Style' to each other or something like this? Also, sorry for my writing, English is not my first language and I used the translator 😭
Summary: No one expected Hanni to dedicate a love song for you but what was an even bigger shock is you doing the same.
A/N: A request for my NewJeans's bias wrecker is always welcomed, also me as a Swiftie reading this request🤭 Thanks for requesting <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3rd's POV
"In our studio today NewJeans, welcome" The interviewer smiled and bowed at the girls which they reciprocated. Today NewJeans had an interview for one of the most popular radio shows in Korea where they came to promote their upcoming album. That day Hanni was in a very happy mood that was noticed by the other members and even though they were curious as to what happened to her to get her in such a good mood, they decided to just leave it be and be happy that she was happy.
The reason for Hanni's sudden happiness was the fact that that day was the release of your solo album and as your biggest fan she couldn't wait to get back to their dorm and listen to it. Truthfully Hanni was your fan ever since you debuted in IVE and was constantly supporting you ever since then and when she finally debuted, all she could think about was that now she had a chance to meet you in person and maybe talk for a bit. Honestly she wished that she could be with you together as a couple but it seemed impossible for her, especially since you guys weren't even friends.
That's what often saddened her, despite talking a few times during music shows and stuff she couldn't call it a friendship. At least you knew she existed and even complimented her and her group a few times which caused her to make a big deal out of it, not letting her members forget about it for the rest of that day. She was just completely into you.
The interview continued just like always and everything was completely peaceful until one question came up "So, is there any idol you want to dedicate any song to?" The question was unexpected but didn't bothered the girls and when it was finally Hanni's turn she looked into the camera and decided to just go for it "Well a lot of my fans might already know that I was a huge One Direction fan before so I want to dedicate "Perfect" by them for IVE's Y/N-sunbaenim" This left everyone surprised by the choice of the song and an idol since no one there expected Hanni to just dedicate a love song for another idol.
Minji slapped Hanni's shoulder before laughing along with her and somehow they managed to change everyone's attention from Hanni and to Danielle who was the last one to answer the question. Still that didn't changed the fact that their fans had the best day with this one clip and the next day yours and Hanni's names were trending all over social media and despite her being pretty bold in that moment, later she was stressed because she wasn't sure how you would react.
And then you had a solo interview there with the same person who interviewed NewJeans and they decided to use the opportunity and ask you the same question "So Y/N, is there any idol you want to dedicate any song to?" You smiled when the question was asked, already knowing how to answer this "Yeah I do actually. So I saw a clip of NewJeans's Hanni dedicating 'Perfect' to me and by the way great song choice because I love it. That's why I want to dedicate a song to her and since I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan I'm gonna go with 'Style' " The interviewer chuckled at the situation before he continued the interview.
To say that Hanni was shocked would be an understatement, she had to watch a clip hundreds times before showing it to all her members to make sure that she's hearing it correctly. Just like before the internet went wild with the clips and your names were trending everywhere along with your ship name. People who thought before that something was between you had the time of their lives with the whole situation and it became so big that your companies had to make statements.
"Starship Entertainment denies the rumors surrounding one of their artists, IVE's Lee Y/N and Hybe's artist, NewJeans's Hanni Pham. After confirming the situation with the artists they claim that the relationship between them is only platonic"
Honestly that didn't changed much because despite the statement being released to let people know that there is nothing between you two, everyone are sure that there are some feelings involved.
And truthfully they may be right.

Day 6023
Even before I open my eyes, I like Vic. Biologically female, gendered male. Living within the definition of his own truth, just like me. He knows who he wants to be. Most people our age don’t have to do that. They stay within the realm of the easy. If you want to live within the definition of your own truth, you have to choose to go through the initially painful and ultimately comforting process of finding it.
It’s supposed to be a busy day for Vic. There’s a history test and a math test. There’s band practice, which is the thing he looks forward to the most in the day. There’s a date with a girl named Dawn.
I get up. I get dressed. I get my keys and get in my car.
But when I get to the place where I should turn off for school, I keep driving.
It’s just over a three-hour drive to Hanni I’ve emailed to let her know Vic and I are coming. I didn’t give her time to reply, or to say no.
On the drive, I access pieces of Vic’s history. There are few things harder than being born into the wrong body. I had to deal with it a lot when I was growing up, but only for a day. Before I became so adaptable—so acquiescent to the way my life worked—I would resist some of the transitions. I loved having long hair, and would resent it when I woke up to find my long hair was gone. There were days I felt like a girl and days I felt like a boy, and those days wouldn’t always correspond with the body I was in. I still believed everyone when they said I had to be one or the other. Nobody was telling me a different story, and I was too young to think for myself. I had yet to learn that when it came to gender, I was both and neither.
It is an awful thing to be betrayed by your body. And it’s lonely, because you feel you can’t talk about it. You feel it’s something between you and the body. You feel it’s a battle you will never win … and yet you fight it day after day, and it wears you down. Even if you try to ignore it, the energy it takes to ignore it will exhaust you.
Vic was lucky in the parents he was given. They didn’t care if he wanted to wear jeans instead of skirts, or play with trucks instead of dolls. It was only as he grew older, into his teens, that it gave them some pause. They knew that their daughter liked girls. But it took a while for him to articulate—even to himself—that he liked them as a boy. That he was meant to be a boy, or at least to live as a boy, to live in the blur between a boyish girl and a girlish boy.
His father, a quiet man, understood and supported him in a quiet way. His mother took it harder. She respected Vic’s desire to be who he needed to be, but at the same time had a difficult time giving up the fact of having a daughter for the fact of having a son. Some of Vic’s friends understood, even at thirteen and fourteen. Others were freaked out—the girls more than the boys. To the boys, Vic had always been the tagalong, the nonsexual friend. This didn’t change that.
Dawn was always there in the background. They’d gone to school together since kindergarten, friendly without ever really becoming friends. When they got to high school, Vic was hanging out with the kids who furiously scribbled poems into their notebooks and let them lie there, while Dawn was with the kids who would submit their poems to the literary magazine the minute they were finished. The public girl, running for class treasurer and joining the debate club, and the private boy, the sidekick on 7-Eleven runs. Vic never would have noticed Dawn, never would have thought it was a possibility, if Dawn hadn’t noticed him first.
But Dawn did notice him. He was the corner that her eye always strayed toward. When she closed her eyes to go to sleep, it was thoughts of him that would lead her into her dreams. She had no idea what she was attracted to—the boyish girl, the girlish boy—and eventually she decided it didn’t really matter. She was attracted to Vic. And Vic had no idea she existed. Not in that way.
Finally, as Dawn would later recount to Vic, it became unbearable. They had plenty of mutual friends who could have done reconnaissance, but Dawn felt that if she was going to risk it, she was going to risk it firsthand. So one day when she saw Vic piling in with some of the other guys for a 7-Eleven run, she jumped into her car and followed them. As she’d hoped, Vic decided to hang out in front while his friends played in the aisles. Dawn walked over and said hello. Vic didn’t understand at first why Dawn was talking to him, or why she seemed so nervous, but then he slowly realized what was happening, and that he wanted it to happen, too. When the chime of the front door marked his friends’ exit, he waved them off and stayed with Dawn, who didn’t even remember to pretend she needed something from the store. Dawn would have talked there for hours; it was Vic who suggested they go get coffee, and it all went from there.
There had been ups and downs since, but the heart of it remained: When Dawn looked at Vic, she saw Vic exactly as he wanted to be seen. Whereas Vic’s parents couldn’t help seeing who he used to be, and so many friends and strangers couldn’t help seeing who he didn’t want to be anymore, Dawn only saw him. Call it a blur if you want, but Dawn didn’t see a blur. She saw a very distinct, very clear person.
As I sift through these memories, as I put together this story, I feel such gratitude and such longing—not Vic’s, but my own. This is what I want from Hanni. This is what I want to give Hanni.
But how can I make her look past the blur, if I’m a body she’ll never really see, in a life she’ll never really be able to hold?
I arrive the period before lunch and park in my usual spot.
By now, I know which class Hanni is in. So I wait outside the door for the bell to ring. When it does, she’s in the middle of a crowd, talking to her friend Yeeun. She doesn’t see me; she doesn’t even look up. I have to follow behind her for a ways, not knowing whether I’m the ghost of her past, present, or future. Finally, she and Yeeun head in different directions, and I can talk to her alone.
“Hey,” I say.
And it’s there—a moment’s hesitation before she turns. But then she does, and I see that recognition again.
“Hey,” she says. “You’re here. Why am I not surprised?”
This isn’t exactly the welcome I was hoping for, but it’s a welcome I understand. When we’re alone together, I’m the destination. When I’m here in her life at school, I’m the disruption.
“Lunch?” I ask.
“Sure,” she says. “But I really have to get back after.”
I tell her that’s okay.
We’re silent as we walk. When I’m not focused on Hanni, I can sense that people are looking at her differently. Some positive, but more negative.
She sees me noticing.
“Apparently, I’m now a metalhead slut,” she says. “According to some sources, I’ve even slept with members of Metallica. It’s kind of funny, but also kind of not.” She looks me over. “You, however, are something completely different. I don’t even know what I’m dealing with today.”
“My name’s Vic. I’m a biological female, but my gender is male.”
Hanni sighs. “I don’t even know what that means.”
I start to explain, but she cuts me off.
“Let’s just wait until we’re off school grounds, okay? Why don’t you walk behind me for a while. I think it’ll just make things easier.”
I have no choice but to follow.
We head to a diner where the average age of the customers is ninety-four, and applesauce seems to be the most popular item on the menu. Not exactly a high school hangout.
Once we’ve sat down and ordered, I ask her more about the aftermath of the previous day.
“I can’t say Minji seems that upset,” she says. “And there’s no shortage of girls who want to comfort her. It’s pathetic. Yeeun’s been awesome. I swear, there should be an occupation called Friendship PR—Yeeun would be ace at that. She’s getting my half of the story out there.”
“Which is?”
“Which is that Minji’s a jerk. And that the metalhead and I weren’t doing anything besides talking.”
The first part is irrefutable, but even to me, the second part sounds weak.
“I’m sorry it had to all go down like that,” I say.
“It could’ve been worse. And we have to stop apologizing to each other. Every sentence can’t start with ‘I’m sorry.’ ”
There’s such resignation in her voice, but I can’t tell what she’s actually resigned herself to.
“So you’re a girl who’s a boy?” she says.
“Something like that.” I sense she doesn’t want to get into it.
“And how far did you drive?”
“Three hours.”
“And what are you missing?”
“A couple of tests. A date with my girlfriend.”
“Do you think that’s fair?”
I’m stuck for a second. “What do you mean?” I ask.
“Look,” Hanni says, “I’m happy you’ve come all this way. Really, I am. But I didn’t get much sleep last night, and I’m cranky as hell, and this morning when I got your email, I just thought: Is all of this really fair? Not to me or to you. But to these … people whose lives you’re kidnapping.”
“Hanni, I’m always careful—”
“I know you are. And I know it’s just a day. But what if something completely unexpected was supposed to happen today? What if her girlfriend is planning this huge surprise party for her? What if her lab partner is going to fail out of class if she’s not there to help? What if—I don’t know. What if there’s this huge accident, and she’s supposed to be nearby to pull a baby to safety?”
“I know,” I tell her. “But what if I’m the one that something is supposed to happen to? What if I’m supposed to be here, and if I’m not, the world will go the wrong direction? In some infinitesimal but important way.”
“But shouldn’t her life come above yours?”
“Why?”
“Because you’re just the guest.”
I know this is true, but it’s shocking to hear her say it. She immediately moves to soften what sounds like an accusation.
“I’m not saying you’re any less important. You know I’m not. Right now, you are the person I love the most in the entire world.”
“Really?”
“What do you mean, really?”
“Yesterday you said you didn’t love me.”
“I was talking about the metalhead. Not you.”
Our food arrives, but Hanni just stabs the ketchup with her French fries.
“I love you, too, you know,” I say.
“I know,” she tells me. But she doesn’t seem any happier.
“We’re going to get through this. Every relationship has a hard part at the beginning. This is our hard part. It’s not like a puzzle piece where there’s an instant fit. With relationships, you have to shape the pieces on each end before they go perfectly together.”
“And your piece changes shape every day.”
“Only physically.”
“I know.” She finally eats one of the fries. “I guess I need to work on my piece more. There’s too much going on. And you being here—that adds to the too much.”
“I’ll go,” I say. “After lunch.”
“It’s not that I want you to. I just think I need you to.”
“I understand,” I say. And I do.
“Good.” She smiles. “Now, tell me about this date you’re going on tonight. If I don’t get to be with you, I want to know who does.”
I’ve texted Dawn to tell her I’m not in school, but the date is still on. We’re meeting for dinner after she’s done with field-hockey practice.
I get back to Vic’s house at the usual time he’d come back home from school. Safe in my room, I feel the usual set of predate jitters. I see that Vic has a large selection of ties in his closet, leading me to believe that he likes wearing them. So I put together a dapper outfit—maybe a little too dapper, but if what I’ve accessed about Dawn is true, I know she’ll appreciate it.
I whittle away the hours online. There’s no new email from Hanni, and there are eight new emails from Haruto, none of which I open. Then I go to Vic’s playlists and listen to some of the songs he’s listened to the most. I often find new music this way.
Finally, it’s a little before six and I’m out the door. It’s almost strange how much I’m looking forward to this. I want to be a part of something that works, no matter what the challenge.
Dawn does not disappoint. She loves the way Vic looks, using the word debonair instead of dapper. She is full of news of the day, and full of questions about what I’ve been up to. This is a delicate area—I don’t want him to be caught in a lie later on—so I tell her I simply had the impulse to take the day off. No tests, no hallways, just driving to somewhere I’ve never been before … as long as I was back in time for her. She fully supports this decision, and doesn’t even ask why I didn’t invite her along. This is, I hope, how Vic will remember the day.
I have to access rapid-fire in order to follow all Dawn’s reference points, but even still, it’s a good time. Vic’s memory of her is absolutely correct—she sees him so precisely, so wonderfully, so offhandedly. She doesn’t broadcast her understanding at all. It’s just there.
I know their situation is different from ours. I know I am not Vic, just as Hanni is not Dawn. But part of me wants to make the analogy. Part of me wants us to transcend in the same way. Part of me wants love to be that strong, that powerful.
Both Vic and Dawn have their own cars, but at Dawn’s request, Vic follows her home, just so he can walk her to the door and they can have a proper goodnight kiss. I think this is sweet, and go along, walking hand in hand with Dawn up the front steps. I have no idea if her parents are home, but if she doesn’t care, neither do I. We get to the screen door and then hang there for a moment, like a courting couple from the 1950s. Then Dawn leans over and kisses me hard, and I kiss her back hard, and it’s not the door we’re propelled toward but the bushes. She’s pushing me back into the darkness, and I am taking all of her in, and it’s so intense that I lose my mind, or lose track of Vic’s mind so that I’m in my own mind completely, and I am kissing her and feeling it and out of my mouth comes the word Hanni. At first I don’t think Dawn’s heard it, but she pulls back for a second and asks me what I just said, and I tell her it’s like the song—doesn’t she know the song?—and I’ve always wondered what that word meant, but this is what it is, this is what it feels like, and Dawn says she has no idea what song I’m talking about, but it doesn’t matter, she’s used to my quirks by now, and I tell her I’ll play it for her later, but in the meantime, there’s this and this and this. We are covered in leaves, and my tie is caught on a branch, but it’s just so full of life that we don’t mind. We don’t mind any of it.
That night there’s an email from Hanni.
Yn,
Today was awkward, but I think that’s because it feels like a very awkward time. It isn’t about you, and it isn’t about love. It’s about everything crashing together at once. I think you know what I mean.
Let’s try again. But I don’t think it can be at school. I think that’s too much for me. Let’s meet after. Somewhere with no traces of the rest of my life. Only us.
I’m having a hard time imagining how, but I want these pieces to fit.
Love,
H
