Halo Effect
In the year 2150, humanity found the Halo Arrays. Ancient ringworlds which they decided to use to achieve Slipspace-Travel, and they reverse-engineer old Forerunner technology from these ringworlds to make all sorts of neat tech, leading to a technological new-age that lasts for 400 years and counting. (Forerunners are still called 'Forerunners,' but they play the Protheans' role).
It's currently 2552...
The United Nations System Alliance (UNSA, which is The UNSC + The System Alliance) are the military and political arm and protectors of humanity, but a shadowy intelligence-agency called "Agamemnon" (ONI + Cerberus) led by 'The Visionary' (Doctor Halsey + The Illusive Man), operates in the dark as they commit various war-crimes in the name of humanity and it's protection; the military and the police are one-&-the-same.
Agamemnon created a program that would train a new breed of military-police troopers that are above jurisdiction and have free-reign to do what they'd like called the "Spectre-II Program" (The Spectres + N7 + Spartan-II) with the best Spectre among them being a Commander-ranked Engineer-class Colonist with a background for being particularly ruthless named John Shepard-117, though he likes to go by the callsign that Captain Jacob Anderson gave to him: "Master Chief" (Anderson was previously Master Chief when a young John asked if he could Master Chief one day).
The Spectres are dedicated to fighting The Matrix (Covenant + Geth), a hivemind of religious cyborgs who believe that the Halo Arrays are ACTUALLY created by The Warforge (Reapers + Prometheans), a legion of sentient starships that are piloted by The Spores (The Flood + The Collectors), and want to liberate thenselves from humanity and their ancestors by activating the rings.
The truth is they were obviously made by the Forerunners to be a counter against the Spore/Warforge, as the SWs collect and harvest any all sentient life to feed and cleanse the galaxy so that the whole universe can live under the Spore's rule; so the Forerunners made death machines, the Halos, which destroys all life in the galaxy so that the mech-piloting parasites can starve. It worked and life began again...
But the Spores/Warforge returned.
And the fate of the galaxy rests in John Shepard-117's hands after he learned about all of this from a Matrix excavation-site on Madrigal Prime, where he touched an ancient Forerunner beacon they were digging up. So assembles a ragtag-team of remarkable people to help him, including: Garrus "The Seraphim" 'Vadamee (a vigilante who atones for his past mistakes by killing the wicked across the galaxy), Kai Alenko-125 (a fellow Spectre-supersoldier and a powerful biotic), Leenda'Zorah (A sniper with keen-sight and is constantly in a skin-tight Hazmat-suit; John gives her Spectre-armor that's the same in-design as her original Hazmat-suit, but offers far more protection and has all sorts of bells-&-whistles that'll keep her safe), Miranda (a super-spy and scientist who is the daughter of the Visionary; her real legal-name is either Keyes or Lawson, but she'll never tell), Ares (a brutish bounty-hunter and ex-clan-chieftian who hails from a planet of dying warriors) and Durandana (the UNSA Normandy's ship AI, given physical form in the form of a blue woman who looks exactly like a younger version of the Visionary).

I decided to take a break in trying for the Halo Reach Legendary under 3 hours achievement. I managed to get Long Night of Solace from almost an hour and a half to 1 hour 1 minute. The par time is 25 minutes so still a lonnnnnnng way to go on that one. My overall time is still over 5 hours. 😑
I've reached a point where I can't seem to improve any of the other levels no matter how many times I replay them and it's now perilously close to making my favorite Halo game not a lot of fun to play.
So.
I decided to make my own achievement: Play the entire Master Chief Collection and on EVERY level of EVERY game... have maximum fun! So that might be playing CE's Pillar of Autumn on Heroic with the Catch skull on. I have fun like that, what can I say? Halo 2's Metropolis will be on Normal with ALL of the fun physics skulls on so I can blast ghosts off the bridge with one shot from a mile away. Halo 3's Cortana level is going to be on Easy with the Bandana skull on so I have infinite ammo and can just sit back and blast my way through wave after wave of Flood. Just that sort of thing. Once I've played through all 6 games, I'll see if I had Maximum Fun on all of them and then award myself some sort of achievement image banner thing!
This is the way. (This is the wrong fandom for that saying, too, but hey, it works. 😂😎👍)

Mega Man Ideal Game (for me)
So, playing Mega Man 11 made me realize what my ideal Mega Man game looks like.
Basically: Mega Man Universe/Powered Up meets Halo: The Master Chief Collection
From Mega Man 11/Powered Up/Universe
Cutsey, chibi-ish, 2.5D art style
Lots of options for controls, playable characters, etc.
Maybe even just uses the MM11 engine
Double gear system as option (circle back later)
Opposite philosophy from the Legacy Collections - more about representing the old games rather than preserving
From Master Chief Collection (especially when it went to PC):
Unite the entire series under a single application
Start early access, adding one game at a time
Universal controls and settings
Introducing new levels of customization not seen before in original games
Singular hub the whole thing, universal features
Cross-game playlists (all ice levels back to back, that kind of thing)
Tons of leaderboards and achievements
Unique timed challenges
Incentives to play all the games in every style
So more specifically, I don't really need any more robot masters or plot. I feel like we have covered all the bases already. Instead, I want to see every Mega Man game rebuilt from the ground up in a unified engine. They could be sold as a la carte DLC, or perhaps in chunks of "season passes" with maybe 3 games coming out a year. Capcom already does something similar with their arcade collections. Just like those, I want tons of accessibility options and challenge modes across the board, universal screen filters, cute unlocks tied to achievements.
I would settle for something like the recent retro remakes that just redo the graphics but let you toggle with a button, but I'd prefer to have deeper QoL changes.
Specifically, my vision for this game hingers on encouraging players to replay these games over and over again with something a little different every time. Not just by offering achievements, but by offering a myriad of modes that don't actually require huge changes to implement, but make the games feel very different.
This is why I would want the games rebuilt in a new engine, almost like a map pack for Mega Man 11: so that we can add something like Roll as a playable character without having to hard code that into every single game. Admittedly, 7-8 and (hopefully included) MM&Bass are different enough to require some more work, but I think this isn't an impossible vision.
Again, here is just an example of what I am imagining: you go to boot up any of the Mega Man games, 1-11, and you are presented with an overwhelming grid of options, like:
Playable characters: Mega Man (with variants for his ability sets, maybe we can find a way to dynamically alter stage obstacles when he doesn't have slide, for example. Maybe that is asking too much, but the folks in the Metroid/Zelda randomizer communities seem to know a thing or two about stretching games to their limits without making them unplayable), Roll (again, just give her one tiny change like a double jump or altered buster to give her a totally different feel), Proto, Bass, Duo, maybe even X/Zero, maybe even Mega Man.EXE and Volnutt if we are getting crazy, or even potentially every single robot master like Powered Up does. Again, that would require reworking the stages, which wouldn't be manually feasible, but I am sure there is a way this could be accommodated. I would also love the ability to specifically go through each Mega Man game as a fully powered Mega Man from any other game, but again that demands reworking stages, especially ones like Sword Man that use earlier abilities.
Modes: hardcode in restricted modes like buster only, weakness only, no weakness, no charge shot, no slide, one hit, etc. as well as toggles for stuff like pits, spikes, higher health, etc. plus challenges like randomized weapons, reverse screen, time trials, boss rush, things like that.
Even just those two things alone could multiply to create a nearly unlimited amount of new replay value.
As for new QoL changes, I basically just want to see everything from Mega Man 11: hotswapping with buttons or right stick, new character model for each weapon, expanded tutorial, lots of difficulty options, auto shoot, auto charge, optional dedicated slide button, and I would love to see the option to bring the double gear system (or at least the speed gear in the form of a limited-use slowdown) in all the old games as an optional mode. Same with having the slide in 1-2, charge shot in 1-3, jetpack in earlier games, characters in games they shouldn't be in, etc.
TLDR: I want a unified remake of the Mega Man 1-10 in the MM11 engine.
I feel like The X series is too all-over-the-place to do this with, while the Zero and ZX games are too similar to be worth cross-pollinating this way, although again I would love to see X and Zero adapted to classic Mega Man, even if they end up being overpowered.
The other pitch for this game is basically to just...make Mega Man Universe and have it contain the official levels packed-in. Mario Maker has really proven how to do a AAA retro DIY game already, and so has the fangame Mega Man Maker as far as I can tell.
Alternatively, just make something like Power Fighters but include all 88 robot masters. That is still a hefty game, especially if you can build any kind of replay value in.

Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony to skip E3 2023
Tumblr media
E3's annual showcase, held in June at the Los Angeles Convention Center, has long been the video game industry's key marketing drumbeat. But recent years have seen major companies turn elsewhere due to reported disagreements with its owner, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), even before Covid stopped the show from running altogether.
E3 2023 will not include a showfloor presence by Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, a new report has claimed.
IGN states that all three of the industry's console makers will skip the event, putting a significant dampener on the show's long-awaited return.

Black Pear Tree
Partially inspired by @bellygunnr ’s fic and descriptions of the atrium on the Infinity, have a bunch of words that came from me listening to Black Pear Tree on repeat for a week. It got sad and also somehow turned into 1500 words. This is between Canon halo 4 and 5 before the Argent Moon mission and Something has happened Offscreen, that may be revealed later. Very early in the au timeline.
-
The stars visible through the atrium window of the UNSC Infinity look nothing like the ones that shone above Reach.
The constellations are wrong and the branching arm of the Milky Way lights up the sky in warm hues. Reach was different. Clear skies and a deep ocean of space as the backdrop for pinpricks of light sparkling through the rich tapestry of blue-black.
Reach had mountain ranges and wind and so much greenery. Here there was no wind, just cycled air, mimicking the feeling of a breeze on his naked face. The bench beneath him creaked under his weight as he leaned back and took in the view. Stars overhead and greenery around him, yes, but the cold gray walls that enveloped the space reminded him where he was. Another ship, another steel coffin. The Infinity was massive. The lead ship of her class and called the culmination of human achievement. John had hesitantly begun to think of her as home. But that didn’t change the lessons he had learned again and again. Spartans didn’t win in space. Equipment could fail.
The unfamiliar constellations winked at him, distant and cold. He wondered if the stars above Reach would fade from his mind like the stars he saw as a child had. John couldn’t remember much from before the coin toss, and he had told himself that was fine.
There was the mission, and the next one. He had his orders and would follow them and complete his missions his own way before marching back into cryo and waiting for the next time they needed him. He’d face down the cold, claustrophobic embrace and dreamless darkness. Mendez had pushed him to lead his Spartans to victory. He was fine to keep moving. Insurrectionists, Covenant, Flood, Forerunners, Banished. There was always a new threat, never a moment’s rest and he needed to be ready. John was a Spartan and team leader. He was the first to try the armor, first to jump into battle, and now he’s always last. Out of place and out of time, years and people gone that he could never get back. His own teammates were almost strangers.
He was an aging spartan, a relic compared to the new blood. They may be undisciplined and cocky, but soon they’d have to do.
Too many fast thaws and hard landings. Ceramic bones didn’t stop joint pain. A huff escapes him as he comes back to himself, incredibly aware of the bench beneath him digging into tired muscle and aching bones. He’s slowed enough that introspection caught up. John has tried to shove it all back down, but this isn’t an enemy he can beat. It’s him. His body and mind catching up and taking stock. Apparently constant repression of trauma and loss does not lead anywhere good. He’s listless and agitated when they don’t let him go on missions and after the altercation, he’s shipbound.
Some days he wants to scream and break things, and other times he wants it all to stop.
Most days, he just wants the familiar back. Even when he knew deep down it was bad, he knew how to get through it. He has to beat this somehow. It’s hurting his team and making him lose control and confidence. So he sits in the memorial park and hopes that he can breathe and ground himself. John lists the names he can remember in his head, feels the earth under his feet, and imagines the cycled air is a breeze and not recycled air from a pump keeping them all alive in this metal coffin.
He wonders if his therapist would call what he’s doing processing or moping. Their next session is still a few days away, and he isn’t cleared to use the gyms yet. Roland is kind enough to check on him during his nightly patrols when he can’t sleep, but the atrium is his space. Even Blue Team knows to let him be when he comes here. Kelly will still be nearby, planning her runs so she can keep an eye on him without smothering him.
He’s about to leave when he hears quiet cursing and rustling branches off in the distance.
As he stands he spots two gardeners struggling with a large sapling, and he heads over without really thinking about it.
“Move it, Harris, but be careful of the root cluster! I swear if--” They stop as they notice him approaching. Harris still has their back to him, but is quick to set the tree down in the freshly dug hole and turn and salute, for some reason. “Harris, what the hell are you doing?” Harris has left them with all of the tree’s weight as it tips back towards them. “What’s it look like, Murphy? I’m saluting! You never know who’s on a ship this big, gotta show respect.” Harris spits over his shoulder, before realizing he’s left Murphy wrestling with the weight of the tree. John watches him turn and jump to help Murphy, and moves closer as they both attempt to move the sapling.
“Need help?” He asks, voice rough and quiet. The gardeners pause, and share a look before answering at the same time.
“Sure!”
“No, we’ve got it, sir.”
Harris and Murphy scowl at each other, but before it goes any further, John reaches over and lifts the sapling. He straightens it with ease, before lowering it slowly into place. They scramble out of the way to secure it and fill in the gaps with soil. He breathes in the scent of growth and damp earth and relaxes slightly. It’s a little overwhelming without the filters from the armor. Once again he’s struck by all the green, and the new growth he has clutched in his grip. Its bark is thin and young, but digs into his palm all the same.
“What kind is it?” John asks them as they finish filling the hole and set up a support stake near the sapling. He’d been on so many planets and seen so many trees, they all blurred together, but this one was sticking out. Old memories blur like static on a corrupted message with flashes of afterimages burned into his brain.
“It’s one of those cedars from Reach, bit like Earth’s trees, but hardier.” Harris answers as he dusts himself off and Murphy collects their gear. “Got several different species from Reach.”
He points towards a copse of trees near where the path forked. Harris hasn’t noticed that John froze at the mention of Reach, but Murphy had. They had finished gathering the gear, and walked up to grab Harris before he started again. “Thanks for your help, Uh--” Murphy hesitates.
“John.” He chokes out. He’s still staring at the tree. His hands still touching the bark.  “Thank you, John. Harris and me will be on our way. Take all the time you need, sir.” They drag Harris away by the elbow. Harris shoots one more confused look over his shoulder and waves before they both disappear around the bend.
John inhales and holds it for a moment. He traces the bark, eyes falling on the patterns of the bark and the faded augmentation scars. Reaching up, he touches the fragile young leaves with unsteady hands. New growth from a dead planet. A swell of complicated emotion rises in his gut and he huffs a breath through his nose.
Growth and change. He was sick of those words being thrown at him. Progress slipped from his grasp and felt no closer to leaving this prison of a ship than when he started. Confined to the Infinity and pacing his newest cage left him both claustrophobic and exposed. No missions meant no armor, and his access to hangars and other access points was restricted so he couldn’t even watch his marines come and go on missions.
Blue Team had stopped accepting missions in some twisted sense of solidarity. They weren’t under the same orders, the same punishment. Of course not, they didn’t --, he didn’t mean--
They didn’t put themselves in the infirmary. He did.
John pulls his hands away before he damages the sapling. He’s shaking and his heart is pounding in his ears.
It’s a small thing, probably only a few years old, so it never saw Reach itself. Never stood near the tree where Blue Team stood and Sam carved their mark.
They had been so young.
And then decades later, they returned with one missing. A new mark carved into the glassed wasteland that was once their home.
Will you trust me now? Will you follow me?
He had asked them that, and then he almost killed them all. Working himself to death and dragging them down with him.
How could he ask them to follow him now?
John couldn’t. Maybe Master Chief could, but he hadn’t been seen in weeks.
John sat next to one of the last living remnants of his home and looked up at unfamiliar stars.

Bread's Game Journal 01/17/22: Oh My God They Actually Shut Off Halo 3.
Tumblr media
I'm not being even a little facetious when I say what I'm about to say: It just hit me that they turned off the Halo 3 servers, and it's going to take awhile to get over it. I know this happened days ago, I know you can still play Halo 3 multiplayer looking better than ever on the Master Chief Collection, and I know local multiplayer will always work.....but they shut the servers off. I spent so much time on those servers and now they're just gone. At the peak of it's popularity I must have spent hours on Halo 3 every single day after school. I was a high school freshman and pretty much all me or my friends would talk about was this game. We'd compare screenshots we took, brag about games we did great in, mess around in Forge. Even before the game released we all obsessed over Halo 3 in a way I don't think I've even come close to doing again with any other game, and probably never will. Now all of that is just....lost. Again, I know I could go back and play the game in it's updated form, but all my original playtime, stats, armor sets, it's all gone. All the pride I had finally managing to get the Overkill achievement (A borderline preposterous task that required you to kill every other player in a ranked Free For All Match at essentially the same time) has evaporated when they flipped off that switch. This is far from the first time a game I liked to play has had it's servers flipped off for good, but this time, sitting in bed at nearly 11 at night....this time it feels really bad. Online gaming was still pretty new back then, and frankly it's absurd the servers were on as long as they were, but it still feels bizarre knowing it's gone. I'll always have the memories at least. Big Team Battle on Valhalla, good times.

So the Master Chief Collection doesn’t have the Good Samaritan achievement for Halo 3: ODST which is not killing every Engineer you find as the Rookie, but it has two achievements for killing all the ones that you find.
... I don’t like that.

You ever look up something and accidentally stumble on a massive discussion in a community you're only on the fringes of?
I love halo and I've been playing it of and on for many years and now that it's on PC(I only play on PC now), I am getting back into it.
I decided to play a little multi-player with my brother. We both have about a decade and a half of experience with halo in general(we aren't awesome at the game because we haven't played it in about 5 years), But when we tried playing multi-player, we got absolutely DESTROYED 3/4 of the time. We could only speculate but it felt like the other players had some sort of aim hack or aim bot. I guess i was right because they do.
When playing Halo Master Chief Collection with a controller on the PC, there is an aim assist active. I noticed an aim assistant when playing campaign on the console with my fiancé, but I didn't think aim assist would be allowed in multi-player.
It turns out that aim assist is in a ton of multi-player games for controllers because without it, MK(mouse and keyboard) players wipe the floor with the controller players.
Now I'm pissed because I want to try and get all 700 achievements for the Halo MCC but I'll have to switch to controller or just get supremely godlike on the MK to be somewhat competitive in order to get the multi-player achievements.

Dexamethasone- The Wonder Drug or The Desperate Hope?
Despite all the desperate efforts to control the spread of the virus SARS-CoV2, wiz getting on nerves of us, humans, as a very, very, social ;sometimes; toxic, species
Hello,          I am Arjun and this picture is not me. Its been like 6 months into this pandemic and I have been eating all this junk you can actually say that this picture is me.Gosh, I was so excited for 2020 because so many exciting things were about to happen. Elon Musk was actually going to complete that Neuralink trial thingy by the end of this year and I could finally end my never ending struggle to take care of my> oh my god> numerous organ systems? my weight ? and my metabolism? any my eyesight? and my everything? Who the h*ll does that?
But no, its just not happening guys. I am pretty sure now because 2020 is just the worst year! let us just agree to that as a starter!
Can you guys like believe that we cannot go out for window shopping anymore?
I go out to buy milk and I have to wear this Halo master chief armored suit thingy.
Ordering from Starbucks is just a pandemic and one kidney away and I certainly cannot beat the Indian summer heat.
I am desperate, I am so desperate that Baba Ramdev doing Yoga at 4:30 in the morning actually makes sense somehow.
I am so desperate that my lockdown 3 AM anthem is :
Taoism talks about how you should go with the flow so thats what I am actually doing, I am finally going with the flow,
But it feels like this flow is actually going towards a falling waterfall and we all are almost on the edge now.
The International airlines are shut down You cannot travel to Ladakh or Goa with your friends and Emiway just featured Macklemore in his song? Like seriously? He went from worshiping M&M to MM? Half a million people have died due to the Coronavirus alone
Yemen is going through a civil war and one of the worst famines in modern history.
And for some reason Delhi is getting its ego drop by a series of Earthquakes.
Well,  Thank You 2020, UNESCO just declared you to be the most confused year in the history of mankind. Like seriously, please decide what you want man.
Now, lets talk medicine.
Lets talk about the scope Dexamethasone potentially has, against Covid-19,
There has been numerous claims in the recent past to have successfully found a potential cure for Covid-19, But I was like meh; BUT I am pretty excited for this one which Oxford just released a statement for I think last night maybe.
The World Health Organisation also applauded the initial results of the study.
It is really interesting, the excerpt said that they are trying to publish the data as soon as possible which basically makes it a more trustworthy of a claim.
The study was an attempt to potentially use Dexamethosone  (A long acting corticosteroid which can remain in the systemic circulation for as long as 3 days) as a DOC for the Covid19.
What are Steroids?
Steroids is a group of chemical compounds with extensive properties often used as a drug of choice for many life threatening diseases.
Some steroids ( Androgenic Steroids) are activated due to stress and leads to many anabolic processes inside your body for example "Muscle building", When you are like trying to get those gains so badly in the gym, what basically happens is you are stressing your muscular cells (also injuring) as a result of resistance training and then steroids are produced as a physiological response so that more and more protein is available for the muscle to repair (btw this is the reason why some bodybuilders using anabolic steroids, end up gaining exceptional gains over years of steroid use)
Some steroids (Glucocorticoids) can strongly suppress the immune system by either suppressing certain genes in various immune cells or by blocking the important enzyme activities. These steroids can act as Anti Inflammatory too which basically means these steroids counter any inflammatory response which can be physiological or pathological. This is the reason that if a steroid taken in the early phase of the Covid-19 disease (The mild symptomatic or Asymptomatic phase) can actually suppress the immunity to a certain point that the drug itself becomes counterproductive.
Some Steroids (Mineralocorticoids) maintain the mineral balance by salt retention, etc. Lets just skip this one.
Adrenal Gland produces Steroid. Them tiny glands you can see above the kidneys.
Now the immunity suppressing nature of Dexamethasone is also the reason why it cannot be taken as a mass prophylaxis drug,  unless the patient is in a state of severe immune response to the infection and requires ventilation or ICU.
The exudate formed in the lungs become an overwhelming immune response to fighting the virus and becomes fatal by causing the patient to stay in respiratory distress and finally succumbing to death.
The Trials done by the Oxford University aka RECOVERY trials, said that :
"1 death would be prevented by treatment of around 8 ventilated patients"
or
"around 25 patients requiring oxygen alone as of now"
*The prognosis may potentially increase as with other combinations in the future*
The study is really interesting because the study population was relatively large ( around 11,500) ; The Cohort population was around 2100 and Control was 4300 which is really exciting.
How does Dexamethasone work against SARS - CoV2?
Dexamethasone is a long acting Corticosteroid and mostly suppress the genes of immune expression
This is the Mechanism of Action of the drug if you are interested:
Dexamethosone vs The Immune System :
The goal of this drug is to just deactivate the immune system which has gone kinda crazy over this virus.
The immune system (IS) basically starts acting like its IS and terrorizes the whole body like its Iraq or Syria.
Jokes aside, This drug can really do some great damage to the hyper super- immune response which is kind of self destructive as the disease progress. Let's try to understand HOW
Only Within 6 hours of single dose of Dexamethasone:
There is a decreased availabilty of lymphocytes, eosinophils, basophils, monocytes,
These cells start redistributing and becomes less available and inactive for almost a day or two.
Also there is a decreased adhesion of these cells to blood vessel walls due to Dexamethasone, Actually the drug is not letting these immune cells to cross the wall of the vessel and go to the infection site (which is kinda cool cuz' no immune response no problem right? seriously why didnt evolution think of this?)
SECONDLY < there is a > decreased phagocytotic capacity of the immune cells so that they do not eat up the virus and form further exudates.
Finally leading to the decrease in respiratory burst (It is the area inside a phagocyte where we burn the pathogen inside the phagolysosome usually, in the case of Covid19,  later explodes and kills us, Dont worry the jokes' on evolution not us )
Now the first most remarkable thing Dexamethasone does is, that, it suppresses Macrophage activity.
Which is basically blocking the Arachidonic Acid Pathway, Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes, Interleukin 1, Interleukin 6 and TNF
Explaination :
IL-1 goes to the brain and causes fever and normally increases the production of steroids by stimulating the hypothalamus, but since we are giving Dexamethasone (which is a steroid) there's something called as a negative feedback and it decreases the natural physiological production of steroid, causing the person to be severely dependent on steroids; and if the person stops taking this steroid, he can eventually die due to acute adrenal insufficiency, thats the reason why we should always taper the dose when withdrawing a steroid.
Now,
The Interleukin 6 usually activates almost all other immune system actions (Remember that respiratory burst is also decreased and hence theres no signal from the MHC I and II to activate the immune system either)  but when it is suppressed by Dexamethoasone, it cannot activate the immune response like it normally would.
The second most important thing is that Dexamethasone down stimulates the cooperation between naive T cells and Interleukins
In Covid 19, Macrophage connects with the Naive T cells and there is a co-stimulation and can be two pathways. (depending on which interleukin is available for the naive T cell)
The first pathway:
In presence of Interleukin 4, these Naive T cells convert into T helper -1 cells which further increases Interleukin 4 and Interleukin 5 by positive feedback mechanism.
Finally causing the other cells of cell- mediated immunity, the "B-cells" to become active and produce antibodies which bind with the virus antigen and try to repeatedly neutralise it. (and kills us).
The Dexamethasone can potentially end all this suffering by attacking a gene known as GATA3 on the T helper 1 cell, (Remember Steroids suppress some immune genes it is just one of them) and hence GATA3 is suppressed, and therefore the chain is broken and there is no immune response ( yay, we alive now)
The second pathway :
If the naive t cell has Interleukin 12 available instead of Interleukin 4, it becomes T helper 2 cell, which produces Interleukin 2, which activates Cytotoxic T cells which produces some naughty proteins called perforins and granzymes.
These Perforin causes perforations in the infected cell and granzymes are then injected to that infected cell which makes the cell kind of commit suicide I guess ?. (and it kills us)
Dexamethasone acts on the T-bet gene on the T helper 2 cell which suppresses the further activation of immune response ( and hey we back to life again)
Now, ALL this information which just went over all of our heads is just the immune suppression of steroids, Lets not go in details with the EXTENSIVE collection of what Dexamethasone can actually achieve.
Please note the trials were done with Dexamethasone and not other corticosteroids mainly because of its wide availability, inexpensive nature, and most importantly because it is along acting Corticosteroid despite being the most potent among them
Dexamethasone also decreases inflammation
Explaination :
Our Cell membranes have a phospholipid bilayer, which is converted by PLA2( Phospholipase A2 ) enzyme to Arachidonic Acid. a) Arachidonic Acid is acted on By COXs ( Cyclooxygenases) to release PGE2F2, PGI2, Thromboxin A2 b) Arachidonic acid can be converted to Leukotrienes by LOXs (Lipooxygenase)
Dexamethasone can block the PLA2 enzyme and COX2 and COX1,  by producing Lipocortin 1, and therefore there's no formation of Arachidonic Acid in the first place, and the whole inflammatory system goes down. (Kudos to the structure of Dexamethasone)
Please, keep in mind that we do need the immune and inflammatory response in the early part of the disease but as their  actions overwhelm the healthy effects of the process, steroids can be used. Not too early, because it can actually worsen the disease if steroids are administered too early.
Some Side Effects which are to be kept in mind :
1. Withdrawl :
- Underlying disease which we were treating may rebound even stronger than before - Acute Adrenal Insufficiency - Pseudotumor Cerebri - Myalgias - Arthralgias - Malaise
2. Hyper use of steroid for long period :
- Fluid and electrolyte abnormalities - HTN ( more sodium retention) - Hyperglycemia ( gluconeogenesis) - Increased infection susceptibility (suppressed immune system) - Behavioral disturbances - Striae (fat redistribution)
While this is a serious concern for us as Indians, people are already stocking up Dexamethasone, price is most likely to spike up and things actually somehow do not work perfectly in India. Let's hope we learn from our mistakes in the past and just get this done and over with. PS - I will try to post more articles like this if I find something interesting regarding the pandemic. Thank you for the time. :)   Feel free to contact.

The End Of The Console Wars And The Dawn Of Unity
Earlier this year, I watched in awe during the Video Game Awards as leaders from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo took the stage at the same time and delivered a joint address to those attending and watching at home. The platitudes were what you would expect and not in themselves groundbreaking - about what a great time it is to be a gamer and how exciting the future is right now - though not unwelcome and undoubtedly true. What was more meaningful in my mind is who the presenters were, what they represented individually and what their cooperating together - considering their background - to make that address symbolically represented: that the age of console wars is coming to an end and something else, something better for gamers and for the industry, is taking its place.
The awe I felt stems from the fact that this is a far cry from the state of the industry not so long ago, when E3 press conferences, especially those of Microsoft and Sony, were not entirely dissimilar to war rooms. References to each other at that time were avoided at all cost, as if avoiding saying a vulgar word, with the competition only being invoked to point out how inferior what they offered was to the vastly superior console they had to offer. Hostility toward the competition was not only rife on their part, but felt encouraged to be had on the part of consumers loyal to their brand. And we took the bait.
I’m embarrassed now to admit that I fell for this trap myself. I was an Xbox loyalist primarily, though because I grew up with Nintendo originally I had a soft spot for them as well. This made Sony the source of my own derision. With the original price tag on the PS3 and the eventually redacted “boomerang” controller design that console was initially slated to have, there was no shortage of fodder I felt given by Sony at the time to condemn their console. The trick is, criticism of those aspects of the console did have some objective validity, but there’s a fine line between making well-founded criticism based on rational thinking and deliberation from essentially accidentally supporting a valid negative position, but based purely from irrational, emotion-based brand loyalty which would have demanded I see what Sony offered as inferior regardless of the specific facts surrounding it.
I feel especially embarrassed to have felt that way, because in life I have traditionally prided myself on being a rational thinker, but in that case, given my passion for the games industry I was easily led away from it. Thankfully that was as far as such sentiment ever got with me, but the capability was always there for that to spill over into applying such irrationality and emotion-based decision making in other areas of consideration about institutions in society. This was the great unspoken, and perhaps unidentified, insidious nature of what was going on at that time in the games industry: irrational hostility was being fostered, and once that’s been justified in one area of our life, it’s not difficult for such thinking to be applied and justified in other areas of our life, which in the longer term stands to have damaging repercussions for the society we impact. It wasn’t until I matured into an adult as well as gained a personal interest in philosophy that I became able to look back and realize the significance of the implications this toxic atmosphere stood to have.
Real change in the industry in relation to these attitudes only truly started to occur however once those in the industry matured and changed their approach, as was probably always destined to be the case. As the negative culture in the past was brought out by those within the game industry in the first place, for better or worse it means the responsibility in turn had to fall on them to undue that kind of thinking and replace it with new, more positive vision. Thankfully, the effort to do so now seems to be in full motion.
The advent of this finally began to occur with the advent of the concept of cross-play. We have taken if for granted for a long time that while we may be part of a fan base for game or series much larger than the player count of just those experiencing it on the same console we own, we can’t share in enjoyment of it with that larger community. Imagine, it was presented to us, those arbitrary barriers were now gone. Each fan could play with every single other fan of something they love, with community surrounding a game or series being built more within the actual games rather than without. It’s an extremely seductive concept, the seduction not due to any particular way the idea is presented, but simply intrinsic to the nature of the idea itself.
Making the prospect all the more tantalizing was it being pointed out that it wasn’t a goal that needed to be worked for...the opportunity is already here. The backend networking for multiplayer or co-op between different hardware presents its challenges and necessary effort, but is entirely doable. Developers can make it happen and want to. Gamers, in one of the few cases of near universal agreement they’ve had, want it to happen, too. It remains only for those behind the different console brands to want to. The deciding factor preventing us from having a more connected and happier gaming community is no technical challenge: it is a simple act of will.
Unfortunately, immediate consensus wasn’t to be, as Sony showed initial reluctance to the idea. The reasoning presented only served to exacerbate the general frustration at not making universal cross-play a reality: Sony was concerned about maintaining the integrity of the online experience of their brand. This explanation rang hollow to most, however. Microsoft has long been lauded for having the most solid and consistent online experience, though Sony has certainly improved dramatically in relation to their own, so the idea that connection to their service would be a liability rather than at least a non-concern and at most an asset even came across as fundamentally nonsensical.
This being an issue was also compounded by a series of well-publicized hacks of the PlayStation Network that have occurred in the past; while Xbox Live has seen its on issues, the number and severity of the attacks in Playstation’s case create greater alarm. With this being the case, it would seem if anyone had cause to be concerned about connecting themselves to another, it would be on the part of Microsoft and Nintendo toward Sony, not the other way around. For it to be the other way around in spite of this felt like petty standoffishness stemming from the old days of the console wars rather than having any basis in reality or the interests of gamers...including PlayStation fans.
That is one final point that rested against Sony’s philosophy of resistance, perhaps the strongest and arguably the only point that mattered: Sony’s own fans supported the change. It stands to reason there’s an impetus to make fans of the brand satisfied, so when the majority themselves are calling for that change, is it not worth considering its merits seriously rather than dismissing it out of hand? Add in the incident of the temporary cross-play enabling for Destiny, and the intensity of seeing that feature become a new norm in the industry became all the stronger.
While Sony was making their decision, we saw the beginning of a broader change toward cross-play support anyway. Fortnite, Minecraft and Rocket League presented three of the more noteworthy examples of the cross-play concept manifesting as a reality, given the runaway popularity of those titles, but numerous other examples sprang up as well. Minecraft’s case was a particularly interesting one in that it saw the achievement of a different milestone, with Nintendo and Microsoft co-backing the production of an ad about their two consoles being able to work together. I’m not ashamed to admit watching that ad made me a bit emotional. I don’t even play Minecraft myself, but what it represented - about the gaming community coming together more - is really powerful to my mind and extremely encouraging as a gamer who always wants to see the industry get better not just in what it makes for us to play, but in the ideals it represents and promotes.
Flash forward a bit, and we have the VGA’s mentioned at the start and a welcome change of tune from Sony, symbolically represented in the VGA presentation but more literally represented in a number of stories about them getting on board with the idea and even being in direct talks with Microsoft in relation to future ventures. Meanwhile, Microsoft has expressed an interest in expanding access to games that have traditionally been an Xbox experience beyond that console itself. They have candidly expressed their interest in making all future games of theirs available for PC simultaneously, which is certainly well within the realm of theoretical possibility given Microsoft’s ownership of the Windows OS most computers run on. And yet...even this isn’t the limit of where they’ve expressed interest in having their titles reach. Just recently, they’ve elaborated on this philosophy of expansion by emphasizing there is a more vested interest in people playing their games than in playing on the Xbox console specifically. For example, that interest goes so far as that they’ve expressed interest in bringing Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PlayStation.
This is, in many ways, the best example of this industry-wide change in philosophy I’ve been discussing. I’ll admit, in the spirit of full disclosure, to being a long-time and avid Halo fan, but when I make that statement it isn’t about complimenting that franchise or Microsoft. What I am directing attention to is the fact that Halo, which has always been Microsoft’s flagship franchise for Xbox and closely associated with its success, is something they are willing to pass access to to players on their competitors’ console. This idea was so beyond inconceivable during that period not long ago I alluded to, that if you had presented the idea as a serious possibility, you’d have been considered an idiot, or insane. But now, it’s an idea that’s had interest expressed by Microsoft at the executive level.
Those players on PlayStation are the key factor of note here, though. It isn’t about Microsoft and Sony becoming best friends, though they seem to be getting along better all the time, which is sure to be a boon for gamers in the future in as yet unknown ways. It is about simply letting players play the games they want. Gaming, like so many pastimes, can be an expensive one, and locking gamers out of access to numerous quality experiences deserving of being explored by all because they can’t reasonably justify - or literally can’t afford - the price tag of another console needed to access those experiences is a shame, and antithetical to the spirit of connectedness and community the gaming culture, at its best, strives to be about.
Destroying these arbitrary and artificial barriers and instead working collaboratively on ways to bring the global gaming community ever closer together, as a family, is the rightful course toward which the industry should be directing itself. And, who knows...maybe in the process of fostering this spirit of inclusion, the game industry can get some of that positive spirit to rub off on those who play games and get them in turn to be more inclusive of others in the world outside of the games. And the world beyond gaming isn’t so different from the world of gaming in that one respect: both are much richer for getting others in on our fun.
So keep it up, video game industry. We all came to play after all, so let’s ALL play. Cheers.

Samus Aran vs Master Chief
So, I saw this question and found answers to both sides, but I wanted to weigh in
Who would win in a fight? Samus Aran vs Master Chief
Well, before we can answer that, we better look at their capabilities
---
Samus Aran - Galactic Bounty Hunter
At a young age, Samus Aran's life was forever altered when her home was attacked by Space Pirates. These clone-happy aliens were lead on this galaxy spanning rampage by a powerful alien known as Ridley and secretly guided by the living super-computer, Mother Brain.
Luck was on her side even back then as she survived the attack and was found by some of the last known members of the ancient Chozo race. Though most of their technology and empire had fallen into myth, their greatest achievements lived on: Mother Brain, Metroids, and of course, the Power Suit.
Samus wasn't able to wield this impressive suit just yet though. She had to undergo intense physical and mental training just to handle the suits basic functions, but more importantly, her DNA was altered to include Chozo sequences, which allowed her to access all of their technology. When she came of age, she was given the suit and told of its abilities, and though many were lost over time, she could harness countless abilities and powers through the suit over the years that followed.
The basic suit allows her to fire off blasts of energy and survive hits that could crush a car, but only so long as its energy lasts. These basic abilities aren't to be counted out though, as both can be enhanced with minimal effort.
Sadly, her new family wasn't meant to be either, as Ridley returned to her life under Mother Brains orders and killed the Chozo that had saved her. Samus then set out on a mission that would become her life: Destroy the Space Pirates once and for all.
She's travelled across the galaxy in her ship, gaining access to countless powers and abilities as she went: The Morph Ball - The suit was able to suspend her physical form in energy and shift her down into a sphere, capable of moving at high speeds, placing energy bombs, power bombs, and using extraordinary powers. The morph ball was later powered up into various new forms, which granted abilites such as speed boosts, wall climbing, and more. The Varia Suit upgrade - This power-up allows the Power Suit to survive in even the most extreme of conditions, pushing through extreme heat and cold that would cause other metal to scorch on contact or become chillingly brittle. Some additional power to this suit can even allow her to submerge in lava and acid, allowing her to explore any area that she comes across. The Gravity Suit - This upgrade is actually an enhanced version of the Varia suit that also allows her to move unimpeded through liquids as well as resist gravity altering effects, just to name a few features. Charge shot and other beams - While her normal weapon is powerful in its own right, it can be enhanced with a charge function. Once charged, these shots can deal massive damage to targets. Along with her regular energy blasts, her arm-cannon can also be charged with elemental energy, radiation, and much more. With it, she's used fire, ice, kinetic, and even light. Missiles - Her cannon is capable of holding an entire gunships worth of missiles, super-missiles, and more. Super-missiles and Power-bombs can also be combined with a Charge-shot to create powerful abilities that range wildly in use and damage capabilities, including an ability capable of surrounding her in a powerful energy field that completely restores all of her energy tanks. Energy Tanks - Along with her natural suits power, Samus can find additional Energy tanks that grant her suit more power. So long as it has at least 1 energy, it can protect her from a blow. Along with all of these powers packed into the suit, Samus can also hold her own out of the suit. Once the Power suit is turned to energy, it can be stored in her body-suit, also known as the Zero-suit. This bit of clothing is surprisingly strong and durable, can be altered in appearance, and is no heavier than standard fabric. Once out of the powerful but clunkier Power Suit, Samus' training and genetics are shown off. She becomes deceptively fast, agile, and is dangerously strong compared to regular humans. Samus has been shown as able to jump over ten feet in the air with ease, pull doors on a starship open with her bare hands, and has gone toe-to-toe with armored enemies with nothing more than a stun pistol.
Using this massive arsenal, focus, and luck, Samus took the fight to the space pirates at every turn. She's destroyed Ridley and his clones several times, blown up Mother Brain, and even wiped out an entire species known as Metroids.
One thing Samus knows how to do is finish a fight

The Master Chief - The Halo-breaking Demon
Spartans are known in human history as some of the strongest, most dangerous soldiers to ever walk the Earth, so of course the name was used for the newest program of the military: The super-soldier Spartans.
These Spartans were taken as kids and experimented on, augmented physically, and tested mentally. Only the strongest would survive this process, cutting down the already limited pool of candidates. The survivors were considered successes and given their armor, making them go from human to Spartan.
Master Chief was one such specimen. Though he wasn't the strongest, fastest, or smartest of all the Spartans, he was versatile, stable, and most importantly, lucky. This allowed him to catch the attention of a special AI named Cortana.
Together, the two of them brought war to both the Covenant, the Flood, and more, though Cortana was mainly support, leaving all of the 'heavy lifting' to Master Chief.
As he travelled across the Galaxy on missions, he dealt with massive hurdles and used powerful weapons, though typically he keeps either an Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle on him while holstering a pistol on his hip. Other weapons he's used include things like: - Rocket Launchers - Plasma Rifles - Grenades - Energy Swords - Spartan Laser The only problem is that he relies on other sources to get these weapons as he only carries two weapons at a time with limited ammunition for each. When his ammo runs out, his Spartan enhancements come into play.
A Spartan is capable of incredible feats of strength and speed in their armor, smashing their way through doors and outrunning their fellow soldiers on the battlefield. The armor assists them by holding them together while exerting forces that would shatter their bones, letting them kick with enough force to jump over a car, or even single-handedly flip over vehicles.
With all of these skills, abilities, enhancements, a little help from his friends, and a load of luck, he's survived his way through intergalactic war and brought down countless foes.

Battle time!
To make it fair, we'll give both combatants plenty of their gear and litter the field with ammo and weapons.
The fight will be between only the two, so no random enemies to do damage to the two, and it will be on a random planet, giving neither of them a home-field advantage.

Blow-by-blow breakdown
With a collection of weapons and gear, Master Chief has his versatility, but this is over-countered by Samus and her abilities, allowing her to use her arm cannon as well as many weapons Chief has available, her lack of ammo requirements, elemental effects of her beams, and charge-shot powers.
Master Chief has Samus beat in melee strength, but her speed and mobility far out-matches his, and with her own melee capabilites and experience against melee-focused opponents, she'd have the advantage here as well.
When it comes to armor and shields, Samus outclasses Master Chief in every aspect. A fully shielded and armored Spartan can take, at most, 3 grenades to kill, and a direct rocket-hit can often prove lethal on its own. Samus on the other hand has multiple energy-tanks that can take hits from missiles, high-powered energy blasts, and even allow her to submerge in lava for short bursts. Even if Samus were to lose her armor, Chief wouldn't be out of danger, as Samus can shed her armor and use her Zero-suit to gain even faster speed, extreme mobility, and now has both hands free to fight with.
With their genetic enhancements, both have heighted senses, but Samus' suit also has a full scan-visor which is capable of analyzing any weapons, gear, and opponents she comes across, letting her pick her targets and find their weak spots in mere seconds. Her photographic memory allows her to use this information of the fly and means she's never out-classed for long.
Lastly, Samus' has the advantage built into her suit of gaining new weapon abilities that are energy based, so things like the plasma-rifles, Spartan laser, and possibly even the Energy Sword could potentially all be copied and used by her at will.
With all of this in mind, Samus would likely have little to no problem at taking down this Spartan
