haknyeon
“How much sugar did you add again?” You eyed him with suspicion.
He looked at you like a deer in headlights. “Enough?”
You sighed. Baking with your boyfriend was a hard task, mostly because he hated any type of measuring. It could be the saltiest ingredient in the world and he would still pour in a whole three cups of it.
“I can’t trust you to do this anymore,” You grumbled. You handed him the whisk. “Just mix it at least.”
Haknyeon grinned, completely unabashed at your harsh comments. As he began to blend all the ingredients together, you had stalked off to pre-heat the oven. In the corner of your eye, you could see him subtly dancing to the music that you had put on. You couldn’t help but smile dearly at the sight.
He looked very alluring like this. His hair was tousled and there was flour powdered across his cheeks adorably. As quietly as you could, you approached him from behind. And then you wrapped your arms around his waist and pressed a quick kiss to his lips.
A sudden feeling of embarrassment completely overtook you, causing you to back away.
“Put it in the oven for twenty-five minutes,” You muttered and then you took off, locking yourself in your room. You brought the pillow up to your face and screamed for a good few moments.
It was oddly quiet though. You had expected Haknyeon to come looking for you. You could here some clambering in the kitchen, the dishes being washed, but that was it.
“It’s done!” He abruptly yelled out. You froze, glancing at the time. Only five minutes had passed. There was no way that the cake was going to be done that fast. But still, with a grumble, you climbed off the bed and approached the kitchen.
He was standing there, leaning against the counter, his hands crossed over his chest with a knowing tilt of his head.
“You run away from me but come back for the cake?” Haknyeon gave you a smile.
You stuttered, “W-well…”
“Come here.” He grinned wider, holding his arms out. With flushed cheeks, you approached him, walking into his embrace. He gave you a tight squeeze, pulling away just to place a soft kiss on your forehead. “I appreciate the kiss.” He gave you a playful wink.
“Too embarrassing,” You muttered, hiding your face in his chest.
“Never,” He replied. “Be proud that you want to kiss my handsome face.”
“Shut up,” You groaned, punching him weakly in the chest. “Just– keep an eye on the cake or something.”
“I’ll keep an eye on you,” He mumbles, pressing a quick kiss to your lips. “You taste sweeter anyway.”
“Uncouth.”
sunwoo
He pulled me into a passionate kiss, his hand wandering down to my lower back and–
“What’re you reading?” Sunwoo suddenly appeared next to you. You squeaked, backing away quickly, closing the book with a loud thump.
“Nothing.”
Sunwoo narrowed his eyes. “Looks like a book to me.”
You huffed, “Well of course it’s a book.”
He leaned closer, studying your features with a slight quirk on his lips. “Read it to me then,” He whispered, his low voice sending a shiver down your spine. His gaze wandered down to your lips, staring intensely. “I like your voice.”
You gulped and shook your head, squeezing your eyes shut. “I… can’t.”
He pouted, pulling away. “Why not?”
A blush began to appear on your cheeks. “The scene is kind of…”
Sunwoo smiled knowingly, his hand trailing down your arm, creating goosebumps on your arm. “Kind of?”
You bit your lip, looking away. “I can’t say.” It wasn’t much really. The two characters, previously enemies, were now kissing heatedly. But you couldn’t tell Sunwoo that. You had an idea of how it would end.
“Demonstrate it to me then.” His eyes darkened.
You sighed, frustrated. “First you want me to read, now you want me to demonstrate?”
He nodded stubbornly, facing you. “Unless it’s murder then maybe don’t demonstrate.”
You laughed. “What if it is?”
He rolled his eyes, smiling attractively. “I know it isn’t. You’re blushing. You can’t be blushing over murder.”
You whined. “Fine, I’ll demonstrate. But you need to close your eyes, please.”
He happily obliged. You could see that he was practically brimming with excitement, making you stifle a laugh. Slowly, you approached his face. He held his breath, his hands blindly finding your waist.
With a deep sigh, you leaned in, connecting your lips to his. Sunwoo hummed satisfied as he tightened his hold, kissing back quickly. He was about to deepen it and tilt his head but you abruptly pulled away. He peeked an eye open and he smiled fondly when you noticed that you were blushing.
“There.” You murmured. “I demonstrated. Happy?” You suddenly stood up, about to flee from embarrassment. You could only get a few steps in before Sunwoo was behind you, taking your wrist and pulling you right against his chest.
“Not quite satisfied yet.” He smiled. “Please demonstrate one more time. For research.”
You whined once again. “I can’t–”
“Then I’ll do it.” He eagerly kissed you again. You practically melted in his hold. This time, his hand wandered exactly where your lower back was, copying the words that you had just read. You gasped and broke the kiss.
“You read the page of the book didn’t you?” You breathed out.
He shrugged with a sly smile. “I simply took inspiration.”
eric
“I hate doing laundry,” You groaned. “Why must you make me do it with you?”
“Because I like to spend time with you,” He bluntly replied.
“We could be doing anything else,” You whined.
“Nope,” He shook his head stubbornly. “When the bed sheets smell freshly washed then I will be satisfied.” He reached into the dryer, lifting the heavy duvet effortlessly. Your eyes wandered down to his arm muscles. He smiled knowingly. “Plus, I love to cuddle you in bed. And kiss.” He smiled innocently.
You flushed. “Don’t try to make doing laundry a sensual thing.”
“I am not!” He exclaimed with a pout. And just for the fun of it, he pulled the duvet over himself, wrapping himself warmly. The fabric covered most of his face. Except for his lips. You giggled and without much of a thought, you leaned up and kissed him, smiling against his lips.
He stood there frozen for a second. And then he peeked out of the covers with a shy smile.
“Did you just kiss me?”
“Yeah.” You rolled your eyes, trying to play off your anxiousness. “Like I do every day.”
“No, no.” He practically melted, his eyes softening. “That was such a sweet kiss though. It was different.”
You bit the inside of your cheek nervously. “Maybe… because I love you so much?”
Oh, you had done it to his heart. You could see behind his eyes, that he was about to pounce on you and pepper your cheeks with kisses like he always did. There was a stupid yet adorable, lovesick smile growing on his lips.
You squeaked and took hold of the duvet, pulling it over his face as you made a run for it.
“Y/n!” He whined. You could see in the corner of your eye, him pulling off the covers as he began to chase you.
“Let me live, please,” You pleaded, turning around to face him. He was already approaching, trapping you against the wall. He was breathing hard, as he gazed at you with so much affection.
“I’ll let you live. If you kiss me again like before.”
“No, I refuse.”
“Shy?” He grinned.
“Yes, in fact I am.”
“Well, as a matter of fact,” He started, his arms coming around you to pull you up against his body. “I love you so much too.”
“That’s great,” You whispered. “So are you going to let me go now?”
“I never said I would.” His eyes fell to your lips. You flushed as he placed a sweet, sweet kiss, making your legs become jelly. “When I’m done kissing you, we’re going to make out on our newly washed bed.”
You groaned. “You ruined the mood with the damn laundry again, Eric.”
“I’ll return the mood for you?” He tilted his head cutely, pulling you in again. Your heart thumped rapidly.

Okay. So maybe trying to secure a girlfriend at a party wasn’t exactly Haknyeon’s best idea.
But, hey. You had to give him some credit. At least he was making an attempt. Most of his other frat brothers weren’t even making an effort. They seemed perfectly satisfied with charming their ways into random girls’ pants every weekend. Unfortunately, or fortunately considering he was a gentleman, Haknyeon wasn’t into that sort of thing.
It was just a little embarrassing that Kim Sunwoo’s love life had more progress than his own. Sunwoo was literally the resident loser bitch boy of the TBZ house. How was he closer to getting a girlfriend than he was? It made absolutely no sense.
Ju Haknyeon thought of himself as a catch. He was pretty neat, his room was cleaner than most guys’ his age. He knew how to cook basic meals, again, more than the average college sophomore. His car wasn’t on its last leg. (Cough cough… Kim Sunwoo, I’m looking at you.) He was a decent dude. He supported women’s rights and wrongs!
Apparently that was not enough these days.
“…And I need you to make sure the fridge is stocked completely. I’m not trying to drink my coffee without cream tomorrow morning because some idiot drank it while they were drunk.” Sangyeon commands, typing something furiously on his phone as some of the other guys move around the furniture.
“Bruh, I was in charge of buying everything last time. Why can’t someone else do it?” Kevin groans. Something else that wasn’t Haknyeon’s best idea? Walking into the kitchen during this very conversation. “What about JuHak? He looks like he has nothing better to do.”
“Yeah, whatever. That’s fine. Hak, I’m airdropping you the list.” Sangyeon waves his hand in dismissal, returning to his extensive presidential duties.
The sophomore deadpans, but doesn’t have the energy to argue back. You know, the usual fraternity was just a bunch of rich guys with more money than the tuition of each TBZ brother combined. However, the Tau Beta Zeta house was not your usual fraternity. It really was just a bunch of normal dudes thrown together. Though, Lee Sangyeon ran it like it was the fucking Navy.
Haknyeon accepts his defeat and grabs his things, heading out to the supermarket to shop for tonight’s party. Alcohol duty sucked more than door duty, in his opinion. You were sent out all alone, tasked with bringing back enough liquor and beer to last until early hours of the morning. It was a near impossible mission, unless you were Kevin Moon and good at practically everything in the world.
He pushes around the shopping cart mindlessly, though he knows he’ll have to make another trip. A long sigh leaves his lips as he enters the alcohol aisle. He fills the bottom of the cart with different cases of beer until he thinks he may drop one, and then starts to place things in the basket. He feels like a dumbass hauling it over to the registers, like everyone can see right through him.
He has to remind himself that this is for a good cause, that it’ll be worth it when everyone is enjoying themselves at the party. His actions won’t be in vain. Even after the second trip with another cart full of beer and various liquor bottles, Haknyeon keeps repeating affirmations in his head. This has to be the party.
In fact, he thinks his thoughts have manifested into reality when he sees you walking into the grocery store at the same time he’s leaving. You’re his pretty Bio lab partner. He’s always too nervous to hold a substantial conversation with you, so he settles for the bare minimum, which is unfulfilling small talk during your labs. It’s never what he needs though. Aside from your name, Haknyeon knows nothing about you.
“Y/N?” What he wants right now, however, is to shoot himself in the foot for sounding so unsure.
You glance up from your phone, a smile lighting up your face when you recognize him. “Haknyeon! Hey! What’s up?”
“Last minute preparations for the TBZ party tonight,” he gestures at his shopping cart with pursed lips. “You?”
“That’s so funny that you say that! My friends and I are going—“ You eye his cart with confusion. “Wait, I didn’t know you were in Tau Beta Zeta.”
“Yeah…” Haknyeon laughs awkwardly. “Surprise!”
You giggle, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but you don’t seem like the frat boy type. Then again, TBZ isn’t your average frat so, I guess that kinda adds up.”
Haknyeon’s not sure if he should take that as a compliment or not, but since it’s coming from you, he decides that he will. The realization that you mentioned you’d be attending the party finally sets in at that same moment. “So, I’ll see you later, then?”
You nod, smile widening. “Yeah, I’m just grabbing a bottle for us to bring with. But I’ll be there. Maybe we’ll bump into each other.”
God, he hopes so. This is the perfect opportunity for him to swoop in and learn everything he’s been dying to know about you. His tongue pokes the inside of his cheek. “I don’t know… I’m a busy man. It might be a little hard.”
That cute little laugh of yours makes another appearance. “I’ll be on the lookout, don’t worry. See you tonight, Haknyeon.”
Ju Haknyeon thinks that he must’ve done something monumental in a past life, like saving a dog from a burning building or stopping a world war. How else would the universe reward him this kindly? All he can do is wave as you maneuver around an elderly couple passing by into the store.
Maybe Kevin Moon wasn’t that bad. And maybe Lee Sangyeon wasn’t as big of a tyrant as he made him out to be. He could actually kiss the ground they walked on for forcing him into alcohol duty. If it weren’t for them, he wouldn’t have ran into you and he wouldn’t have known you were attending the party. Now he has something to look forward to that isn't getting shitfaced.
“What the hell are you wearing?”
Haknyeon looks away from his mirror, Hyunjae standing in the doorway. He has a cringe on his face at the sight of his outfit. It wasn’t the worst thing he’s ever worn, but it was… a bit too much. A black button up and black slacks was admittedly not the best frat party fit. The only good thing he had going for him was his hair that was styled for once, parted so his bangs framed his face nicely.
“This girl I’m kinda into is coming tonight. I need to look irresistible.” The younger explains, arms flailing at his sides.
“Okay, well you won’t accomplish that in this,” Hyunjae snorts, digging through his closet. “If she’s into you too, she won’t care what you’re wearing. Just throw on something you’d normally wear. Like… this! This is nice.”
Hyunjae holds up a black t-shirt and a black-washed denim jacket. Haknyeon hums. It was simple, but also once he put it on he wouldn’t feel like a douchebag, which was the whole goal here. Paired with some khaki cargo pants, he’s found a winner. He begrudgingly thanks his senior for the assistance, shooing him out of his bedroom so he can mentally prepare for the night ahead of him.
He doesn’t even know what to bring up now that he really tosses the idea around in his head. Yeah, he wants to learn more about you and what you’re like outside of your Bio lab, but specifically what he couldn’t say. Haknyeon was starting to feel like a lost cause. He had to clutch up tonight. He had to woo you so much that you had no choice but to fall for his cute face and endearing personality. But how was he meant to do that if he couldn’t even come up with topics to talk with you about?
Maybe he was just thinking too far into things. Perhaps he should just let it all go with the flow. Moving at an au natural pace was probably his best bet in comparison to Sunwoo’s soccer ball plan. (He’s still confused how that worked in his favor.)
Before he knows it, the party is swinging into full effect. This is the first time Haknyeon’s ever been so socially aware of his surroundings. He had a habit of blurring his atmosphere at these things, more interested in getting drunk with his buddies than paying attention to the attendees. As he stands in a corner of the living room, listening to Chanhee complain about treasurer stuff, he watches each and every person who enters the house.
When you finally do walk in, he has to physically stop himself from choking on the beer in his cup, biting the rim of the plastic in a weak attempt to sedate himself. If he thought you were gorgeous before in a pair of leggings and a sweatshirt, he doesn’t know what to call you now. You’re laughing at something one of your friends said, dolled up in a black mini skirt and a black cropped halter top while hugging a bottle of Pink Whitney to your chest. He could probably pass out right here right now.
He almost does, but then Chanhee is slapping his back aggressively. “Wipe the drool off of your chin. God, am I the only one who still has a brain?”
“Shut the fuck up, Chanhee, go cry about your life somewhere else.” Haknyeon dismisses his senior, downing the rest of his drink for some liquid courage. Though he is, he doesn’t want to seem too desperate, so he’s not going up to you this quickly. Instead, he heads into the kitchen to get another drink, rolling his neck like he’s preparing for the biggest win of the century.
It’s as he’s pouring some jungle juice into a fresh cup that you see him. A smile similar to the one from the store graces your features. There was only one person with a back like that, and it was your cute lab partner. You keep an arm wrapped around your bottle, tapping his shoulder lightly. He spins around confusedly, but the expression morphs into pleasant surprise immediately after.
“Pink Whitney? Easy choice,” he points at the bottle in your grasp. “Are you a lightweight, Y/N?”
Your cheeks warm up at the teasing remark. Upon first meeting, Haknyeon’s been an awkward mess around you. You can only assume the confidence stems from the fact that he’s within his element. “That’s for me to know, and you to find out.”
“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were implying that you want me to get you drunk.” He tucks a hand into one of his jacket pockets, the other bringing his cup to his mouth. He’s unconscious of the source of this sudden bravery, but he prays it doesn’t fade off anytime soon.
“Maybe I do…” You bite your lip, undoing the seal of the Pink Whitney bottle to take a sip. It burns your throat slightly. “I’ve never hung out with a frat boy before. I kinda wanna see what the hype is all about.”
Haknyeon thinks he might pass out again, because if he wasn’t so acutely aware of your entire interaction, he would think you’re flirting with him. Friendliness was a double edged sword in this day and age. But who knows, maybe you are flirting. You showed up with your friends but they were nowhere to be found now. He needed to take advantage of the opening.
It’s around this time that Younghoon and Juyeon are bringing out the fated beer pong table, a crowd already beginning to form nearby. He feels sorry for the poor suckers who have to play Changmin and his girlfriend.
“We should play beer pong!” You suggest, watching the pair of taller guys setting up the cups over his shoulder. Haknyeon can sense the color draining from his face. If it had been anyone else, he would’ve shut the idea down insanely fast, but because it was you, he was genuinely contemplating. Those who went up against the infamous TBZ party beer pong champions were in for a rude awakening, but if you wanted to...
“Uh—“ He starts but then he’s interrupted.
“Yo! Who’s down to play Rage Cage?!”
Juyeon’s voice is somehow louder than the music, carrying into the kitchen where the two of you stand. Haknyeon wasn’t the greatest Rage Cage player, but he enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than beer pong. Especially when he stood beside people who didn’t understand the concept of the game.
You chug some more Pink Whitney, batting your eyelashes up at Haknyeon. “I’ve never played Rage Cage. Is it fun?”
“If you’re next to the right people it can be, but if you aren’t, then it’s a whole lot of drinking. We haven’t played Rage Cage at a TBZ party in a while, but the last time we did Eric Sohn almost had to get his stomach pumped.” He laughs a little at the memory of his friend spending the rest of his night cuddling with a toilet seat. The mental picture overshadows how enticing you look right now.
“Do you think you can teach me?” You ask sweetly, hoping that he takes the hint. He seemed like the type of guy who wouldn’t make the first move unless you forced him to, so it appeared that you had your work cut out for you.
“You wanna play?” He turns to you with wide eyes, almost as if he hadn’t expected you to show interest in the game. You give him a small nod, tucking some hair behind your ear. The truth of the matter was that you were a fucking liar. You’ve played Rage Cage plenty of times in the past. You were actually pretty decent at it, too. You just needed an excuse to spend the night around him.
“We better head over there now. It looks like the table is filling up.” You jab your pinkie in that general direction. Haknyeon blows a raspberry and leads you that way, his hand resting on the small of your back so he won’t lose you in the pack of people surrounding the table.
“Forewarning, my rap sheet doesn’t really read World Class Rage Cage Champ,” he laughs nervously, the anxiety beginning to eat at him all over again. “But I promise, I won’t let you get stacked.”
When Haknyeon said he wasn’t the worst, but wasn’t good at Rage Cage, you took his word. Except he severely overplayed his own skill. Maybe he was just extremely on edge and it threw off his game, but the amount of times he was stacked on was a little comical. At the very least, he kept his promise. You hadn’t got stacked once, but that was also only because Haknyeon would drink for you every time you almost did.
The room is sort of spinning by the time the first game has finished. Playing a drinking game while he’s trying to get to know you better was probably at the higher portion of his ‘BAD IDEAS!!!’ list. If he wasn’t so eager to please and followed along to each of your suggestions, perhaps he’d be having a different conversation. That was not the case, though.
You can’t help but feel a little guilty for the turn out. All you’d wanted was to flirt with your lab partner, possibly end the night with some making out. As it was looking, that’s not the path you were heading down, but rather towards the kitchen for some water to sober him up some. Your bottle of Pink Whitney is long lost, replaced with a bottle of H2O. You hold his chin, tilting it back slightly to pour some into his mouth.
If he hadn’t already had the fattest crush on you, he definitely did now. Pretty and nice? You were the total package. Here you were, nursing him back to sobriety when you could’ve been out and about enjoying yourself with your friends. Up this close, he gets a detailed look at you. It’s so weird for him to think about how much he’s pined after you since the start of the semester, how much he’s admired the face that’s looking at him with this unfamiliar tenderness. He never thought he stood a chance. You know, that whole ‘nice guys finish last’ pick me boy vibe.
“Y/N—” He’s cut short, Juyeon’s voluminous voice resonating throughout the house again, sans the music.
“Everybody who isn’t Tau Beta Zeta, get the fuck out! Someone called the cops!”
Of course. Nobody ever calls the cops on a TBZ party but of fucking course the one time Haknyeon gets shoot his shot with you, someone narcs. He actually thinks he might die. He might keel over and die in the middle of this party while the cops are raiding the place. Lee Sangyeon is gonna be thrown in the back of a police cruiser for letting people drink underage and then send them his way because he bought all of the alcohol. This was just his luck.
Without a word, you grab his hand and drag him out through the back door. You follow the flock of other party goers escaping the wrath of the police. It’s difficult to run in a mini skirt and strappy heels, but you don’t really have room to whine about it. Haknyeon doesn’t know if there’s ever a right time to tell you that you could’ve just gone up to his room, but figures it’s too late when you're hopping the short fence that goes out to the main street of Greek Row.
One would think that he’d sobered up at this point since he was, you know, on the run from the law. Yet for some reason Ju Haknyeon himself doesn’t even know, he’s still feeling the effects of the alcohol, tripping over that stupid fucking fence and falling flat on his face. Thankfully, he lands on the grassy part just before the sidewalk, but it doesn’t make the situation any less embarrassing.
You don’t give him recovery time, pulling him to his feet. He holds a hand to the side of his face that received the harshest of the impact, expecting to wake up to a nasty bruise tomorrow. He’s also unsure where exactly you’re taking him, but is afraid of asking out of fear that you’ll send his ass back to the frat house and have him arrested or something. (He had a bad habit of over complicating situations and coming up with the worst possible scenarios.)
Once the commotion has died out and there’s no one else around, you slow your pace. You turn to face him with a grin, holding both of his hands in yours as you walk backwards. “Are you cool with staying the night at my place?”
Truly, Haknyeon needs to know what act of nobility he committed in his previous life. He needs to go back in time and thank himself for whatever it was. Even with fumble after fumble, he was somehow bouncing back and receiving major compensation for sticking it out. He swallows thickly, nodding dumbly when he realizes he hasn’t given you a proper response.
“Um… Yeah— I mean— yes. That’s fine. That’s totally fine.” He word-vomits, stumbling over his tongue rather than his feet. Being down bad was one of his strongest personality traits. And being clumsy was second strongest, so you don't even have to imagine how terrible a combination of both would be.
The walk to your apartment knocks any lingering inebriation out of his system. He’s entirely too hyper aware of what’s happening as you guide him in that direction. It’s cooler out, the temperature dropping in the nighttime as the end of the semester approaches. If there was another reason to be grateful for this party, it was because he no longer had to worry about not making a move before your last lab together. As much as he despised Biology, he’d take it every day if it meant getting to see you.
He actually feels like he may throw up as you reach your place, his hands sticking into the pockets of his jacket to hide the clamminess of his palms. His nerves are creeping up on him once more, a dark cloud looming over him. He shouldn’t be this jumpy at this point of the night. He should be composed, prepared to sweep you off your feet after spending so much time with you. Why the hell is he sweating bullets right now?
“Welcome to my humble abode,” you curtsy. “Would you like something to drink? Water, maybe?”
“Th-That would be great,” Haknyeon forces out, waddling behind you into the kitchen like a baby duckling following its mother. “You have a nice apartment.”
“Really? Thank you!” You can’t help but giggle at his jitters and the way he keeps rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. A sense of déjà vu rushes over you when you pass him a cup. “Living alone has its perks, I guess. I like that I don’t have to argue with anyone about how to decorate and things like that.”
“It sounds a lot more enjoyable than living with a bunch of men in their early twenties,” he smiles weakly as he accepts the glass of water from you. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to how thin the walls are in that house.”
“Do they have sex often?” You ask him bluntly, head cocking to the side almost innocently. He chokes on the water he just sipped, nearly spilling it onto the floor.
“W-What?” He sputters.
“I’m assuming that’s what you’re talking about,” you shrug, facing away from him so you can grab yourself something to drink, also. “We should get back at them.”
You don’t know how many more bones you can throw for him to understand what you're insinuating. Even the frat boy comment you made earlier was intentional. Haknyeon’s mouth goes dry and his eyes widen like a cartoon character’s. What the fuck?
“I’ve never brought a girl back to the house before, because I don’t want them to make fun of me or something— not that I’m saying I would take you back to the house! I mean I just would feel bad if you also got made fun of— not that I’m referring to having sex with you or anything!” The glass in his hands is on the verge of slipping from his grip. “Not that I don’t want to have sex with you— oh my god— um wow, that’s a very lovely fruit bowl you have there I—“
“Hak,” you interject his rambling, wearing a mischievous smile.
The nickname drives him fucking insane. Scratch him possibly dying. If he isn’t dead by the end of the night, he’ll be shocked. Perplexed. Perturbed. Puzzled. Any shock-adjacent synonym you can think of. That will be him. “Y-Yes?”
“Can you shut up and kiss me already?”
Honestly, you don’t have to ask him twice. His lips are on yours in seconds, fingers fisting the material of your skirt at your hips to steel himself. You moan in response to the sheer frenzy behind his actions. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the haste of it; the way you tug at his hair, the blunt edges of his nails digging into your sides, the near clashing of your teeth. He nibbles at your bottom lip, sighing when you allow his tongue to permeate your mouth. He’s content to do nothing but this, kissing you is enough to satiate the desire he’s harbored for you for months. However, with the franticness of your kiss, he knows you want more.
He inches you both backwards until your lower back hits the counter, and then he’s cupping beneath your thighs to hoist you up. His strength sends tidal waves pulsing throughout your whole being, hurriedly pushing the material of his denim jacket off of his shoulders and letting it fall to the floor without a care. Your hands travel south as his lips trail along your jaw and neck, sucking and biting your supple skin wherever he feels fit. He hisses into the dip where your collarbone meets your shoulder when you palm him through his pants.
“Fuck, babe, you want me bad, don’t you?” He mutters into the column of your throat, teeth sinking into the flesh after.
“Mhmm,” you whine, craning your neck to give him more access to the surface. It’s like a switch has flipped in him and it turns you on unbearably. This is what you’ve been trying to coax out of him all night.
Haknyeon pries apart your legs, slotting himself between them so he can sneak his fingers beneath your skirt. His thumb rubs tight circles into your clothed clit, the lace of your underwear damp with your arousal. He connects your lips again, groaning into your kiss when he moves the fabric aside and slides his knuckle through your folds. You buck up your hips, whimpering when he holds them down with his forearm.
“Want more,” you gasp when he applies a bit of pressure to your sensitive bundle of nerves.
“‘More’ what? Use your words, princess,” he instructs, tracing your entrance with his ring finger.
You shake your head because you’re not even sure what it is that you want. You just know that this isn’t enough to quell the hunger burning at your chest. It’s not nearly sufficient to fan the flames in the depths of your heart or the ache in the pit of your abdomen. You need him everywhere. It’s beyond him being your cute Bio lab partner now.
He urges you onto your elbows, pecking the plane of your stomach. He pushes up your skirt and discards your panties, baring you to the cool air of your apartment. Your eyes flutter shut when he kisses your clit gently. Your head is light and airy and it’s like you’re on cloud nine. Haknyeon hums against you, pulling off to scold you.
“Eyes open, baby,” he nudges his nose on your pelvic bone. “Want you to watch me eat you out.”
The moan you release is strained, like it had been confined in the back of your throat for ages until this moment. He flattens his tongue and licks a line from your hole to your clit, suckling the engorged skin and repeating. Your eyelids are heavy, keeping your intense gaze on him as he all but makes out with your pussy. He focuses his mouth on your clit and slips his middle finger into you. He pumps it in and out languidly, setting a rhythm that matches each swirl of his tongue around your clit.
The whole scene still feels unreal to both of you, like you might wake up from a wet dream or something. How was it possible that Ju Haknyeon was finger fucking you on your kitchen counter? Just a couple days ago, you were sitting side by side in your Biology lab, too nervous to initiate a substantial conversation. You’d think it would be harder to slob on someone’s knob than it would be to talk to them while wearing a fuckass lab coat and goggles.
Haknyeon works his forearm up, pinning down your thighs so your cunt is fully accessible. He adds a second finger to the mix, thrusting them at a higher speed and increasing the unrelenting sucking of your bundle of nerves. He can tell you’re creeping closer towards your climax with the way your walls clench around him and your hips continue to jerk up. And considering the kind of person he was, you figured he would aid you rather than hinder you. But you figured wrong.
He slows his assault, removing his mouth from your clit and leaving the stimulation at just his two fingers. You whine, lip quivering when he looks up into your eyes.
“W-Why are you— what are you doing?” You plead, hating the tone of your voice. The tables have turned, with you sitting beside desperation. This is so unlike you— so unlike the usual domineering aura you exude during sex— your body reacting differently to the power falling through the cracks within your grasp.
“Don’t you wanna savor the moment, princess?” He sounds so cocky, a far cry from the wavering confidence you’d always seen out of him. He kisses the skin of your inner thighs, moving closer and closer to the area you need him most, all the while he continues curling and uncurling his fingers.
The precipice of your orgasm is right there, you can almost taste it on the tip of your tongue. But Haknyeon holds it just out of reach, dangling it in your face like teasing a dog with a chew toy. Tears prick at the corner of your eyes, a false sense of hedonism building and building, then slowly ebbing away each time he retracts. You open your mouth, but no sound comes out.
Just when you’ve given up hope, he adds a third finger and wraps his lips around your clit, sucking harshly. The sudden and unexpected intrusion snaps that familiar cord in half, blinding you with white hot pleasure. The groan that escapes from the base of your chest is guttural, echoing throughout the kitchen. You don’t have it in you to worry about waking your neighbors, especially not when you feel the curve of a smile against your cunt, such an uncharacteristic response from Haknyeon.
Your legs spasm as the height of your orgasm calms. You pull him down for a wanton kiss, tangling your fingers in his hair. He laughs at the role swap, hands flat on the counter to hold him over you. “Feel good?”
“So good, Hak,” you murmur into his lips. “Think you can fuck me like that next?”
“So impatient,” he snickers, pecking along your jaw once more. “But since you’ve been so good for me, I think it’s only fair that I return the favor.”
You clumsily undo the button and zipper of his cargoes, pushing them down with your foot. He steps out of them and kicks them away while simultaneously removing his t-shirt. You take your top off and shimmy out of your skirt, raising an eyebrow at the narrowed look in his eyes. “What?”
“Do you have a condom?”
“No,” you poke your cheek with your tongue. “But, I don’t care if you wear one. I’d rather feel you raw, anyway.”
His forehead drops to your shoulder. “God, you’re killing me. Okay.”
He shoves down his briefs and you have to stop yourself from gawking at his size. While he wasn’t the biggest, he was definitely bigger than anyone else you’ve ever been with. He pumps himself a couple times, guiding his length to your entrance and throwing his head back when the tip presses into you. This was really happening, holy shit. Ju Haknyeon was actually having sex with you.
Your toes curl and you stab your nails into your palms to distract from the stinging stretch. He eases into you with the occasional grunt, minding your expressions for any signs of discomfort. When all he sees is your features contorted to display pleasure, he resumes. By the time he’s bottomed out completely, both of you are moaning messes. You feel so full, stuffed to the brim with the weight of his cock.
“I’ve wanted to be inside of you for so fucking long,” he admits, speaking the words into your sticky skin as he drags himself out only to piston back in. The action throttles you a bit, your eyes tempted to roll to the back of your head from how fucking good it feels. You can’t conjure coherent thoughts to properly convey how many endorphins are coursing through your veins.
Haknyeon sets a pace that combines the perfect amount of speed and depth, the tip of his cock brushing that spot deep in your cunt. Your brain is hazy and your vision blurs, hardly able to see anything in front of you. His mouth attaches to the pulse point on your neck, ensuring he bruises the area.
“Y-You’re— fuck— you’re s-so deep, Hak. I can feel you all over,” you wail, bringing one of his hands to tamp your lower stomach. The pressure contributes to the growing tension of your second orgasm, something you know will collide into you with even more exertion than the first.
“Yeah? You’re taking me s-so well, baby. No one else has ever fucked you this good, right?” Sweat beads on his hairline, dripping down his temples with every thrust of his hips and every drive of his cock into your sweet pussy. Even if he really did somehow manage to die tonight, he could do it with integrity. He could go out with the honor of a fallen soldier knowing that he got to experience this at least once in his life.
He hikes one of your knees up to your chest, burying his dick deeper if humanly possible. You arch your back, pushing into his chest to minimize the space between you, antsy at the promise of another release as mind blowing as the last. He brings you to the edge of the counter so you’re now hip to hip. Haknyeon snakes a hand in the middle of your bodies, using his thumb to rub circles into your clit. That stimulation coupled with the depth of his cock encourages the fluttering of your walls, in turn drawing out the state of bliss you’ve been chasing.
Your vision goes blank, stars painting the behinds of your eyelids. A second orgasm crests upon you and evokes a moan so pornographic, it sounds far away from you. It’s a dreamlike euphoria, an almost out of body experience that puts every other orgasm to shame. The surface of your skin is hot to the touch.
“Where do you want me, princess?” Haknyeon asks breathily. In the calamity of your own release, you nearly forgot about his until you register the twitching inside of you. It pauses the static in your ears, returning the volume of the world to its normality.
“Cum inside of me,” you whine, the overstimulation becoming too much to handle. He doesn’t need to be told another time, grip tightening on your thigh as he spills into your cunt.
The two of you stay still for a moment, allowing clarity to flow into your brains. You wince when he finally has half the mind to pull out, his nose scrunching up at the sensitivity. He slides his underwear back on, extremely conscious of how naked he is right now. He has an inkling that you were anticipating that this would happen, because why else would you ask him to stay over tonight? But, he is the Ju Haknyeon that you’ve sat next to this entire semester in your Biology lab. So he couldn’t just march forward without a little overthinking and self deprecation.
“Do you still want me to stay?” His voice has reverted back to that small, unsure tone. You sit up quickly, alarmed by the twinge of disappointment underneath it.
“Of course, I do,” you pout, kissing his cheek and lacing your fingers together. “I’ve had a crush on you since the beginning of the year, Hak. Sure, maybe I skipped a couple steps in between, but I have wanted this so badly— I have wanted you so badly— for you don’t even know how long.”
He chuckles, tucking some hair behind your ear. He leaves a sweet kiss on your lips, softer and gentler than the ones from earlier that night. He’s intentional with the way he glides them in harmony, like he was following the melody of the most beautiful song. “Oh trust me, I think I have an idea.”

this fic is a part of the @deoboyznet 'the love letter collective' event o:) oh and also a spin-off to my 90s au universe! (go read millennium bug and to. my first for 10 years of good luck!)

September 2007
A sweet strawberry is placed in between your lips as you lay on the blanket, the sun shining into your eyes making you squint and shield your vision from the scorching beams. You blindly bite into the juicy fruit, enjoying the freshness of it in your mouth, knowing that this might be the last time you can taste the red miracle this year, since fall is quickly approaching despite the warm days of early September.
Your ears are filled with the noises of the birds chirping in the distance, the occasional buzz of a bug flying by your face, and apart from the sounds of nature, also the occasional humming of your boyfriend’s voice and the tech noises of the toy in between his fingers.
“He finally evolved into an adult!” Haknyeon gasps and places the Tamagotchi into your point of vision, shielding you from the view of the cloudy, blue sky. Eyes falling onto the little device, you snicker at the man and nod, looking up from your position in his lap to meet his gaze.
“Stop gendering our child, Hak.”
“I’m pretty sure that when we named him John, we wordlessly agreed on it being a boy,” your boyfriend’s hand drops, the sharp sun once again piercing your gaze when there is nothing making a shadow fall over your face.
“For all we know, John can be a girl.”
“Y/N-” the man sighs, the slightest tinge of irritation already in his voice. As if the fact that you were both fully grown adults taking care of a toy for children wasn’t strange enough, now you have to argue about the identity of your little animal.
“It’s an it,” you conclude. “I think we can agree on that, can’t we?”
Your boyfriend rolls his eyes, but doesn’t argue with you further. The view of him crossing his arms at his chest and averting his gaze from you has you burst out into laughter– he was clearly upset about something, and you’re fairly certain that this was not the matter.
“What?” you pry, letting out an airy laugh slip from between your lips.
“You didn’t even acknowledge that it evolved,” he peeps, sighing. “But if you don’t care, it’s okay, you can just go back to what you were doing before, which was nothing–”
Now it’s your turn to roll your eyes at the boy, humored with his childishness. Taking his palm into your hand and holding it up in front of your face again, you gaze at the toy in between his fingers and hum in acknowledgement. “It did!” you nod. “Good job. You finally didn’t let it die–”
“Now, that only happened twice–”
“Three times,” you correct him, watching with amusement as your boyfriend sighs again and chews on the inside of his lip, the sight of him from below more entertaining to you than watching the clouds. You know that by the logic of the Solar system, there’s only one sun allowed in this universe– but looking at the sky shielded by your boyfriend’s head, his tan skin glazed in the warm orange hues of the late afternoon, you think he’s the personification of the greatest star itself– for you that is, at least.
“Okay, well, three times. But I’ve got a hold of it now,” he says, nodding to himself. “So that means we can get a real kid now,” he says, face stoic and serious, as if he really meant what just came out of his mouth.
Laughing to yourself, you shake your head in disbelief. “I’m sorry, get what now?” you grin. “I wasn’t aware that I was a part of this deal.”
“You agreed to it, though,” Haknyeon nods, flicking your forehead. “You must have not paid attention again, but we definitely shook hands on it.”
“Wait,” you say, sarcastically humming and brushing your chin, a playful act of being lost deep in thought, “no. I still don’t remember any of that. So as long as you don’t have a written proof with my signature and the date on the bottom, I don’t think we can proceed with this arrangement, Mr Ju. We can, however, settle on getting a dog–”
“So you don’t want children with me?” he asks, looking down at you with big eyes. Thinking that it’s all a part of a joke, you try to play along– going as far as even shaking your head in disapproval.
“Hell no,” you drag out, furrowing your brows in deep unsettlement. “To have a clone of you running around our flat in a few years? That sounds like my worst nightmare,” you hum, snickering to yourself. “Besides, we forgot to buy toilet paper last week. What makes you believe we can take care of another human? Hell, that damn thing died 3 times before it grew into an adult, Hak…” you sigh, the tone of a know-it-all you like to use on him so much whenever you joke around not quite hitting the boy in the right way this time.
“Ah,” he hums, fingers suddenly playing with the strands of your hair sprawled out like the beams of the sun in his lap, his face now shielded with a cloud. Haknyeon chews on the inside of his cheek for a second before a bashful voice reaches your ears, making you look up to meet his eye. “I think it wouldn’t hurt to at least try…”
Noticing the playful sparkle in his eye completely gone, your heart stammers, skipping a beat. Stomach dropping, you jump to rescue. “Wait… you thought I was being serious?”
Haknyeon shrugs, pouting for a second before a rosy tint flashes over his cheeks. “You sounded convincing…” he says, laughing. “Besides, it’s completely up to you if you wanna have kids or not, I was just a little taken aback–”
“Stop being silly,” you say, shaking your head. “I should stop being sarcastic all the time, it’s doing a lot of damage recently.”
“Like when MB!Y/N thought you were being serious when you told her it was embarrassing to cry on her wedding day?” Haknyeon laughs, remembering the memory from only a few weeks ago.
“Exactly!” you agree. “I still feel bad for that, by the way. Now I know why nobody liked me in high school–”
“That’s not true,” Haknyeon denies. “You keep forgetting the fact that I had the hugest crush on you, Y/N.”
“Well, you were always very subtle about it.”
“I was shy.”
“I think you were just trying to be cool,” you say, poking the inside of your cheek with your tongue, taunting the boy.
“Well, it worked, didn’t it?” he laughs, moving his hand up to your head and cradling it, going as far as gently scratching your scalp. “Back to the topic at hand, though. Do you… Have you ever thought of us having kids together?”
Looking up at the man you’ve been dating for the last 4 years, watching as his face morphs into pure wonder, your heart sores when you stare at his features for long enough– even after all this time. You bet you see a hint of sunlight reflecting in his orbs whenever he pays you a look, and the apples of his cheeks catch a light strawberry color whenever you compliment him still, even after so many years. It’s kind of adorable, really– you two have always been an open book, honest with each other– but neither of you were really big on romantic gestures or big confessions.
You two do everything casually. You don’t tend to make a big deal out of things. Somehow, your relationship naturally progresses through all the crucial stages without paying it a second thought. Sure, you two have been on dates– the title wasn’t established for a long time when you first started going out, though. For you and Haknyeon, you were just two people hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.
The title of your relationship gained an official name as naturally as the seasons change– after many afternoons spent together doing various things, Haknyeon just asked you if you wanted to be his girlfriend. You agreed, no questions asked. It felt casual– it fit like a puzzle to the dynamic of your energies. You didn’t need big words or gestures. In the mundane reality of your lives, you two always had each other– without taking each other for granted, you both somehow always knew you were a given to each other. Both of you always knew you had the other person to fall back on– your security, your other half. There was no need for big words in a connection like yours. It just felt right.
And yes, you do talk about everything. Most things, at least. But somehow, the topic of having children together hasn’t really come up seriously until now– only in passing, mentioning it as a matter of course for most relationships. You don’t blame Haknyeon for getting so serious at this moment.
“Yeah,” you say, voice soft and gentle. “Come on, Hak. I imagine spending the rest of my life with you, what makes you think having children isn’t in the equation?” you say, choosing to be serious with him for once.
“I dunno,” he shrugs. “I mean, you were kinda right about the toilet paper thing, though–”
“I know, I know…” you sigh, “but I bet the oxytocin will get the job done.”
“Look at you using big biology words so suddenly,” Haknyeon jokes, making you roll your eyes and flick his chin.
“Be serious for once!” you laugh out, making the boy grin at your little outburst.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” Haknyeon says, the pad of his thumb suddenly glazing over your cheekbone. The touch is tender, managing to cross the words always somehow left unsaid, yet always somehow understood– your brains and hearts on the same wavelength, buzzing at the same frequency– before your boyfriend casually drags out: “That’s good to hear, babe, ‘cause we’d make the prettiest babies. Would be a shame to let the good genes go to waste.”
“Tell me that,” you confidentially whisper. “They’d be mega smart too. They’d get that after me, obviously–”
“Hey!”
“I’m joking, I’m joking,” you laugh, shielding yourself from the hands of your boyfriend already reaching to give you a playful flick to your forehead again. “I do think we should wait a while before having children, though.”
“Not that I don’t agree with you, but why?”
Hands blindly reaching for another strawberry to chew on, you watch your boyfriend easily pluck the fruit out of the basket and hold it up against your lips, helping you with your task. Thinking over your answer, picking out your words carefully, you chew and stare at the boy as he helps himself to a strawberry himself, the two of you gazing at each other in a fond silence.
“I think we skipped a few steps. We live together already, so that’s a start, but I’d like to get married before having kids,” you shrug, licking your lips off the watery sweetness, watching your boyfriend take in the new information.
Haknyeon hums, nodding to himself. “Makes sense,” he admits. “And when do you see us doing that?” he asks, genuine interest coating his saccharine voice.
“Not really sure,” you admit, snickering. “I haven’t thought about it much until now.”
“Hm,” Haknyeon hums in thought, the two of you staring at each other, chewing on your strawberries. There isn’t much contemplating behind your boyfriend’s words before he says them, but nonetheless, it doesn’t even catch you off guard– much like not many things do in your relationship. Somehow, you’re always perfectly synced. “Now seems like a good time, doesn’t it?”
“I mean… it doesn’t seem like a bad time, that’s for sure,” you shrug.
“We’ve been dating for a long time,” Haknyeon says, as if to further strengthen his argument. “Hell, I can’t believe Eric managed to get married before me.”
“Are you only saying this because your younger friend got married last month?”
“No,” Haknyeon says, although he sounds a little unconvincing. “But it certainly was a wake up call, in a way.”
“A wake up call?” you repeat, big eyes staring into your boyfriend’s soul.
“Yeah,” he agrees, “kinda realized when I didn’t see you catch the bouquet. A part of me was secretly hoping you would.”
“Stop being cheesy, Hak. That’s not like you,” you say, although there is something sweet, thick like honey, swirling in your stomach at his unusually rich wording. The male laughs in your face, enjoying the way he has you flustered with his confession.
“Would you do it, though?” he asks, grinning.
“What? Marry you?” you ask, raising your brows at him. “As in… right now?” you clarify, watching as the male purses his lips at you, seemingly thinking about it for a heartbeat.
“I mean, not right now, because we’d have to arrange the wedding and all, but yeah. Like, as soon as we can, is what I mean,” he says, dragging a stray hair out of your forehead.
Staring at him for a second, contemplating your next words, you feel your heart squeezing with something akin to excitement, your fingertips tingling with the reality upon you. “Ju Haknyeon… is this you asking me to marry you?”
“Yeah,” Haknyeon nods, shrugging. The whole situation is absurd– no one is down on their knee, no ring is present, no big events or confessions are taking place. Yet, the moment still feels perfect– it flows naturally into the trajectory of your life, makes total sense in the grand scheme of your relationship, happens unexpectedly, but doesn’t quite shock you in the tiniest way. It’s just another afternoon for the both of you– doesn’t matter that you’re taking perhaps the biggest decision of your whole life.
You don’t contemplate for even a second.
“Okay,” you say, watching the boy’s eyes light up.
“Okay,” he repeats, nodding. “Let’s do it, then.”
“Let’s do it,” you say, watching the boy beam down at you just like the sun, something in the air changing, yet, the two of you still stay the same.
Haknyeon takes your hand into his, opening your fist before he slips the keyring off the Tamagotchi onto your ring finger like it’s a promise, pressing the toy into the palm of your hand and making you hold it tight. His hand stays on yours when he leans down, lips crashing against yours, offering you all his love in the simple action. He tastes like strawberries and the past 4 years of joy.
Faces close to each other when you pull away, Haknyeon talks confidentially into your ear. “We can go ring shopping tomorrow.”
“You better buy me a very expensive one–” you joke, cut off by your own laughter as the male gently bites into the tip of your nose, teasing you and making you frown, pushing him away with gentle force against his chest, right where his heart is.
Most things with Haknyeon aren’t planned, grandiose or romantic. Sometimes, you just take a step forward together, holding each other tight. You love each other in a casual way– the same way you know that when you wake up, there will be sun, and when you go to sleep at night, there will always be stars– you know that as long as you're alive, you and Haknyeon will always have each other. That’s the calm way in which you two love.

“Miss,” a bodyguard approaches you, “please follow me.”
You turn around and furrow your eyebrows together, “Did I do something wrong?”
The man shakes his head, “I just need to speak with you for a moment.”
You wave your friends off, telling them that you’ll catch them later. The bodyguard walks, and you follow after him. Most people had cleared out after the concert. The only people you see are the staff closing down the stands for merch. Just as you’re about to question the man again, he stops. Stepping to the side, you see who you assume is another staff member.
“You’re of age correct?”
“Yes.” You answer cautiously.
He pulls a paper out, “One of the boys wants to take you back to the hotel. We’ll take you back there if you consent and sign this.”
To say you’re shocked is an understatement. You stand there and process the situation for a few moments. The second man clears his throat, recapturing your attention. Reaching out, you take the pen from his hand. You don’t ask which member wants to hook up with you or why you, of all people. You barely read through the document before signing it. The man takes the pen and document back from you before slipping into the room behind him. Your gaze turns back to the bodyguard, who stays silent.
“Am I going to go in the vans with them?”
“No.” He says shortly, “You’ll probably be tossed into the one with the makeup artists. It would be compromising if you got in the van with the members.”
You nod and stay silent in the space with him. It feels like you stand in silence in front of the closed door forever. After a while, you hear the bodyguard’s phone chime. He makes a small noise to gain your attention before jerking his chin. It seems to be a silent communication that you’re leaving the venue.
He guides you around the back of the building and into a van. Half of it is filled with rolling cases, which must have a million different hair and makeup products. You climb in and sit in a random seat. Soon after, makeup artists join you in the car. None of them speak to you. They hardly even acknowledge your existence in the vehicle. The car ride feels like an eternity. You get notifications that the boys are posting their post-concert tweets. It feels surreal that one of them wants to hook up with you. Who it is remains a mystery to you. Maybe that’s part of the fun, though.
Once you arrive at the hotel, you wait in the car for someone to guide you to the right place. The same bodyguard from earlier comes to retrieve you from the van. He still says as little to you as he possibly can. The walk into the building is silent, the ride in the elevator is silent, and even the walk down the hallway is silent. He stops in front of a door and quietly knocks. He steps back while waiting for someone to answer the door.
“Can you at least tell me whose room I’m going to?” You huff.
“Is there someone you’re hoping for, sweetheart?” It’s Haknyeon.
Your body goes stiff, and a shiver runs down your spine. He’s stunning, to say the very least. His hair is a bit wet and tussled as if he had just finished showering. You shake your head, eyes clearly wandering as you take in the sight of him. He smirks with a small sigh. You swear the sight of him pushing his tongue against the inside of his cheek could send you to an early grave. You glance to your side and find that the bodyguard is gone. In all fairness, you can’t blame him for wanting to leave as soon as he could. Hakneyon opens the door further and allows you to step into his room.
You don’t even get a breath in before Haknyeon has you pinned to the door with both your wrists trapped in his hand above your head. The immediate feeling of his body against yours, your body heat morphing into one shared feeling, makes you positively melt. His lips against yours feel like a sinful heaven. You wrap your legs around his waist before he takes a handful of your ass with his free hand. Haknyeon pulls you off the door and sits down on his bed with you in his lap. You grind against him desperately. His hand that was previously holding your wrists tangles itself into your hair.
“Haknyeon,” you breath against his lips, “wanna suck your cock, please?”
“So eager to please.” He smirks, “Go on, pretty. Let me see how much prettier you get on your knees for me.”
You waste no time sinking onto the ground between his spread thighs. He helps you make quick work of the clothing on his lower half. He kicks away his sweatpants the moment they pool around his ankles. You take his cock in your hand, kissing up and down his length. Once in a while, you give a few kitten licks to his tip, making him groan lowly. His hand finds its way back into your hair as you finally take his tip in your mouth. You suck gently for a few moments before Haknyeon decides to take matters into his own hands. He pushes your head down suddenly, making you take him fully down your throat.
“So pretty choking on my cock.” He moans. “Maybe I should keep you lo–”
His words are cut off by the sound of the room door opening, followed by Changmin’s laughter. You freeze but keep sucking him off dutifully. You know Changmin just walked in the room, but all you can think about is sucking Haknyeon off to the best of your ability.
“What’s this?” You hear Juyeon ask.
So Changmin isn’t alone. What a lovely coincidence.
“You find a little fun, Hak?” Eric questions.
“Damn right I did.” He chuckles, thrusting up into your mouth, “Think she’s one who would want to be fucked stupid, care to help me?”
“Is she comfortable with that?” Changmin asks.
You moan around Haknyeon’s cock, looking at him with wide glassy eyes. Everything about your muffled noise and your gaze tells him that you want it. You feel a pair of hands on your hips, pulling your clothing down over the globes of your ass. Two fingers lazily run through your folds for a few moments. When the fingers retreat, you wiggle your hips back. You want so badly to have that feeling again. You’re so lost in sucking off Haknyeon that you don’t process the sound of ripping foil in the room.
“I’m gonna fuck you now, pretty.” Changmin warns you.
He pushes into you in one motion, and you let out a loud moan around Haknyeon’s cock. You want nothing more than to have the younger man cum all over you right now. Hollowing your cheeks, you focus as much energy as you can into making Haknyeon cum. He moans and holds you down on his cock for a few seconds. He tugs your hair again to pull you off his member. Haknyeon fists his cock until he cums. The pearly ropes land on your face. He watches your expression as you make desperate faces at the feeling of Changmin inside you. You know you look like a debauched, fucked out mess with his cum on your face as Changmin fucks you into next week. Haknyeon moves out of the way, opting to now just observe.
You hear a small whine from the other bed. When you turn your head, you see Eric seated between Juyeon’s legs. Juyeon’s long, nimble fingers are toying with Eric’s nipples as he fucks his own fist.
“W-want you in my mouth, please?” You ask, holding eye contact with Eric.
“Fuck, okay.” He groans.
The youngest man stands up and moves to the bed right where Haknyeon previously was. Immediately, you take him in your mouth. You still have Haknyeon’s cum on your face, but you love every moment of it. Changmin reaches underneath your body to roughly play with your neglected clit. The feeling of his fingers on your clit combined with the intensity of his thrusts, sends you hurling into your first orgasm of the night. You moan loudly around Eric as the sensation rolls through your body. Changmin suddenly pulls out, and you feel the condom drop against your back before feeling his cum land across your ass and back. He moans filthy words as the ropes land on your skin. They’re each marking your body, and you love how it feels. Before you even start to beg, Juyeon is behind you and pushing his long cock into your throbbing pussy.
“Such a good pussy.” He groans once he’s fully inside you, “So damn pretty sucking Eric off while I fuck you. You love being double stuffed like this, don’t you?”
You moan around Eric’s cock and do your best to nod as you continue to give the youngest man a semi-lazy blowjob. Eric lets you have full range to do whatever you please with him. After being basically throatfucked by Haknyeon, it’s a nice change of pace. Juyeon is just as intense as Changmi, though. He holds onto your hips and pulls you back to meet each of his thrusts. He removes the condom from your back, leaving the view of Changmin’s cum on your back in front of him.
 Juyeon reaches forward and pushes your head down onto Eric’s cock. He holds you there for a while. Your eyes brim with tears, and your lungs scream for air, but you love every moment of it. You look up at Eric through your lashes. His eyes are half-lidded and swimming in pleasure.
“So fucking pretty. And to think, Haknyeon was going to keep you all to himself.” Eric scoffs, “You’re too damn good to keep to one person, isn’t that right?”
Juyeon releases your head. You pull off Eric’s cock fully and jerk him off. Your spit coats his cock in a thin shiny layer, making pornographic wet sounds as you move your hand around him.
“It would’ve been such a damn shame i-if– fuck!” you cut yourself off as Juyeon thrusts into you harder, “If he kept me to himself.”
“You like being used by all four of us?” Changmin questions from the other bed.
You turn your gaze toward him. He’s lounging back on the bed, clearly enjoying his post-orgasm bliss. Haknyeon is sitting at the edge of the bed, hand on his cock again as he fucks his hand slowly. His eyes are focused on where Juyeon’s cock continuously fucks into you.
“Love it so much!” You moan, “Love being used by you guys.”
Juyeon smacks your ass lightly, “So fucking good for us.”
“So fucking good.” Eric groans, “Why don’t you wrap those pretty lips around my cock again?”
You don’t need to be told twice. You bring Eric’s cock back into your mouth, hollowing your cheeks just like you had with Haknyeon. Eric lets out a loud moan. He starts to thrust up into your mouth. He has his hands back behind him on the mattress as leverage as he fucks your throat. You can already tell he’s close based on the intensity of his thrusts. You make garbled, needy sounds. There’s spit and cum running down your face. It’s filthy, but you wouldn’t want it any other way. Your pussy pulses as you cum around Juyeon’s cock. Your thighs shake so hard they nearly give out underneath you. Eric takes a handful of your hair and pulls out of your mouth. He cums across your face. Some of it lands on your lips, which you happily lick into your mouth and swallow. The rest lands on your cheeks and forehead and drips down your chin.
Juyeon pulls out of you after your orgasm subsides and takes off his condom. He jerks off against your ass until he cums across your ass and back. Just the knowledge that the four of them have cum all over you makes your body desperate for more, even though, as it stands, you can barely support yourself on your knees. Haknyeon must’ve taken note of your state and swept in to take you up in his arms.
“You must feel real gross right now.” He jokes lightly, “Covered in drying cum and drool.”
“I actually love it.” You beam, “I’m just a bit tired.”
“You’re not sleeping anywhere covered in cum and drool, sweetheart.” He cringes at the idea.
You hum, “I won’t be able to stand in the shower.”
“I’ll help you.”
You raise an eyebrow at him, the feeling of drying cum on your face finally starting to get to you.
“The others won’t bother us. Changmin is the only other person staying in the room. He already cleaned up. Juyeon and Eric can clean up in their own bathroom.”
“You’re letting me stay? You’re helping me clean up?”
Haknyeon chuckles, “I’m a celebrity, not a dickhead. It would be real stupid of me to try to make you clean yourself up in this state, let alone get back to where you’re supposed to be at nearly three in the morning.”
“T-thank you.” You respond, not sure what else to say.
Haknyeon smiles lightly, “You’re welcome. Don’t be surprised if you wake up with me between your thighs, though.”

ju haknyeon x gn!reader
0.4k words, implied est. relationship au, fluff, i just needed this tonight
Tumblr media
He found you out on the balcony as the sky turned a shade of red pomelo. In a few minutes, it would burn to the color of a mandarin orange as the sun began its trek into the sky to mark daybreak.
Ju Haknyeon would have stayed in bed longer had it not been for your absence. He rubbed his eyes between a yawn as he settled on the chair next to you and slumped his head onto your shoulder. Your hand found his hair, fingers gently scratching his scalp.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked quietly, shifting his head so his cheek pressed against your shoulder and you could watch the sunrise together.
You were quiet for a moment, considering. You massaged the words around your mouth with your tongue and attempted to string them together like they were individual letters in an alphabet soup. “I'm thinking that you're it for me.”
For a second, your words didn't fully register in his half-awake head. It was muddled and foggy, but then they became as real as you were. His heart galloped into full gear in his chest and it banged on his ribcage, begging to be let out. I'm thinking that you're it for me.
Your touch on his head was still as tender as it always was. “You're it for me, Haknyeon,” you repeated with more finality. It was not because you didn't think he heard or even misunderstood, but rather, for the sake of putting it out into the universe—this was it; you'd made your decision and you'd chosen your person.
He suddenly couldn't find his own words—any words—that might even begin to express how he felt. Haknyeon raised his head up from your shoulder, drawing your attention away from the imminent sunrise. He could even still see the sleep in the corners of your eyes, and there was no other moment in time that he wished to sear into his mind's eye to hold onto forever and ever.
“You’re it for me, too,” he said thickly. There was no other person he would rather spend the rest of his life with than you.
You smiled then. It was more beautiful than the rising sun at the horizon. It warmed his chest like a hearth, so full of love and contentment and adoration.
He reached for your hand and your fingers tangled with his until he couldn't tell his from yours.
Neither of you said anything else. Nothing else needed to be said. He just squeezed your hand, thumb grazing against the back of your knuckles, as the sun climbed up into the sky.

buzz buzz!
The alarm on your smartwatch goes off, giving you the signal that indicates the end of your shift.
It has already been 14 hours, and you stood up from your chair and did a stretch as you submitted the final report of one of the patients you had to deal with throughout the night.
You originally would’ve ended your shift 2 hours ago, if only one of the ER nurses didn’t call in sick this morning. You shrugged, it happens almost every fortnightly in your department, always being understaffed that is.
Packing up your belongings, you waved goodbye to all of your co-workers where some were just finishing up as you were while the others had just clocked in for the day and headed straight to your car.
To make matters worse, it was snowing pretty heavily as you made your way to your vehicle. You had to use your handy-dandy ice scraper to get rid of the snow that formed on the windshield and the sides of your car doors. With that, the first 10 minutes right after your shift ended were gone in the blink of an eye. You hopped into your car real quick and gave yourself a heavy sigh, hoping at least the car ride home wouldn’t be too bad.
Tumblr media
Stepping onto your front porch, you dug into your backpack for the keys to your apartment. You wasted no time trying to unlock the door and quickly kicked your boots off as you closed the door behind you.
Making your way into the living room, you spotted the familiar figure laying down on the couch.
Your boyfriend, Daniel.
At the beginning of your relationship, the two of you would gladly wait for each other to arrive back home and chat away about how the day’s been for both parties. Now, getting a “welcome home” from your partner is already better than nothing.
However, tonight was different as you muttered those two words to your boyfriend laying down on the couch. Instead of responding, he stood up with his back facing you and muttered a deep “we need to talk” right back at you.
Already exhausted from your shift, you so badly wanted to ask him to save it till morning when both of you are in much better shape, but that won’t happen tonight as he wasted no time trying to make his way to you.
“I can’t do this anymore, Y/N. This relationship we’ve been having? I don’t see the spark nor commitment no more.”
“Please Daniel, what are you trying to imply here-”
“You work for 12 hours straight each day, God. Sometimes even more than that. I’m off to work while you’re asleep, and you're only back in the house during the wee hours of midnight. What happened to us spending quality time as a couple?”
Your boyfriend certainly had a point there. It has been months since the both of you truly had a good bonding time with one another. As work started piling up for you, you had to always sadly turn down the multiple ideas of your boyfriend’s well-planned dates and vacations.
Of course, he’d be frustrated and sad. But it was also his responsibility to understand your situation here. You’re a nurse gosh darn it, and he should know damn well how whenever duty calls, you can never say no. That is what he agreed with when you both started your relationship 3 years ago.
But apparently, the spark that the two of you have been sharing for the several years you both had up till now, has been completely burnt out.
“Let’s end this, Y/N.”
Tumblr media
To say that you were in tears would be an understatement.
Hell, you have been bawling your eyes out for the past 2 hours and breaking down in your living room as your boyfriend left your shared apartment after a heated argument.
You kept blaming yourself, for how much you have ruined this once so-called perfect relationship you have built with your now current ex. Everyone around you said that you both were perfect for one another, that you both were a match made in heaven and the wedding invitations are bound to arrive at your friends and relatives' doorstep in another 2 to 3 years' time.
Including your best friend, Ju Haknyeon.
Feeling weak and vulnerable, you desperately needed a warm embrace, and to hear some comforting words from someone who cares about you deeply.
It was now 3 in the morning, and there was only one place you know that you’ll be accepted in.
Tumblr media
You stood right outside of the door that reads Apartment 309.
You knew this apartment from the back of your mind. The drive route from your apartment, even up to the passcode or where the extra pair of keys are hidden on the front porch.
Instead of trying to open the door on your own, the owner of the apartment has already been expecting your arrival and they were the ones welcoming you at the front door instead.
The brunette male, wearing a white t-shirt with black sweatpants, opened up the door for you. His eyes widen as he examines your red swollen eyes, puffy cheeks, and a wet soaked nurse uniform you were still wearing.
Before he could ask you what happened, you were pushing the male into the apartment while slamming the door shut with your leg. Guiding him all the way to his bedroom and pinning him down on his bed. You climbed over him and were about to kiss him right on the lips.
What was going on in your mind? Has the break-up made you feel a sudden surge of lust towards your best friend? Desperately wanting a hug and a kiss to see if it could make you feel better or at least forget about your ex.
But the male was clearly stronger than you were and he turned the tables over within seconds, and now you’re the one who’s being pinned down on the bed instead.
“Y/N, what is this all about?”
With that one sentence, you then broke down into tears again, leading the male to pull you up and hold you tight against his embrace.
It’s been a while since Haknyeon has witnessed you in such a fragile state, the last time probably being in college when you and your ex were going through some tremulous times to fight against all odds in order to be together.
And he hated it. Hated how vulnerable you were at that moment. He hated seeing you cry the most.
Especially when he still had feelings for you after all these years.
After calming down for a bit, you finally fill Haknyeon in with all that has happened the past few hours prior. You can’t help but to sob and sniffle from time to time and Haknyeon manages to wipe away your tears and calm you down each time.
Without having much thought, you blurted out “Haknyeon, be my boyfriend” right there and then.
Deep down you know very well that this was your best friend’s dream for the longest time, and he would definitely be delighted to accept the offer.
Or will he?
What you didn’t expect was the straight rejection he gave you right after you said that.
“Why not Haknyeon? You’ve had your eyes on me and loved me since day one of high school. Isn’t it always your dream to date me?”
“Y/N. I love you with all my heart. Hell, I would give up anything if it’s for you and to make you the happiest girl alive. But not like this.”
Haknyeon then lets you out of his embrace and cups both of his hands on your cheeks, staring deep into your eyes.
“I want you to love me when you’re at your best. I want you to truly see the man that I am, and how much I’ve grown. I want you to truly make up your mind because I will not let you go when you’ve decided to begin a relationship with me. I want you to love me right.”
Tumblr media
You have been crashing at Haknyeon’s apartment most weekends for the past two months, and he couldn’t be happier if it makes you feel better.
During the weekdays though, Haknyeon would make the effort to come to visit you instead while bringing you the best take-out meals from all of his favourite restaurants in town. Your best friend clearly does not mess with food.
Knowing how messed up your eating schedule was, he has even taken the initiative to plan out your diet.
No consuming those nasty junk food when you’re already low on sleep.
You’d constantly be reminded of your bestie’s words every single time you’re about to head to the drive-thru at Mcdonald's at two in the morning after your shift at the hospital.
Tonight was different though as your manager informs you that you get to finish your shift way earlier than your usual post, as your department is getting a handful of transferred nurses from the capital. That was good news especially how your hospital has been understaffed for like two to three years now.
And that 2 - 3 years had to be the time when you were with your ex.
You shook off the negative thoughts you had in mind and quickly got out your phone to text Haknyeon about you coming home early for the night.
You were certain he was definitely on his phone when you sent the message because it took him less than a minute to give you a reply.
Hakkie 🐷: sweets!! I’ve had a big night planned ahead of us, can’t wait to see you at home 😊
You can’t help but smile at the message, thinking about how cute he was at times when he was all giddy and excited, which makes you wonder if you both are really the same age at all.
Your co-worker noticed your excitement and how a big sincere smile was plastered all across your face. It has been a while since you’ve been this jovial anyways.
“You got a date tonight?” She nudges your shoulder while giving you a wink.
Smiling back at your co-worker, you looked back down at your phone staring right at the newly changed picture your friend has chosen for his iMessage profile.
“I guess you can say that.”
Tumblr media
“Woah Haknyeon, what on earth have you done with your apartment?”
You were astounded by what your best friend has done. The entire living room has been cleared out and Haknyeon took the largest blanket he owned and turned it into a fort. A comfy throw was laid out nicely on the floor with pillows scattered above it. As a finishing touch, fairy lights were hung around the blanket to give it that true cosy movie night experience.
“You sure are an ambitious young man.” You replied.
“Since when have you ever gotten off work this early Y/N, I’d say this calls for a celebration, and of course thank heavens that tomorrow is the weekend!!”
“Okay okay, kiddo. What are we watching tonight?”
“Big Mouth, the infamous K-drama everyone’s been talking about recently.”
“And why is that?”
“Well, both you and I are huge fans of crime shows, and we love Im Yoon-ah, so I’d say it’s a win-win situation!”
“More like you are the one who’s obviously obsessed with her.” You protested.
You couldn’t help but laugh at your bestie's enthusiastic comment. Eventually, you gave in and decided to make yourself comfy. Haknyeon went ahead and made some warm honey butter tteokbokki in his so-called best portable pot that he owned. Of course, a comfy night movie wouldn’t be complete without a warm mug of cinnamon latte according to the food master himself.
You never expected to have enjoyed the drama this much as it’s been such a long time since you've been to the cinemas, let alone watched a tv series or show at home. You missed this feeling of excitement as you engross yourself in the show’s plot, and of course, having someone to share the same experience with you in the same room.
As the show progressed, you can’t help but have tears well up in your eyes whenever a sad or frustrating scene appears on the screen. Haknyeon notices your demeanour and quietly puts an arm around your shoulder. Naturally, you decided to lay your head down on his shoulder. None of you said anything but just enjoyed this little comforting moment you both were having.
Haknyeon truly was your best friend, you definitely didn’t deserve a fine young gentleman like him.
Tumblr media
“So where are we off to this time Mr Ju?”
It was another rare occasion where you’ve gotten a day off from work as your manager has seen all of the extra hours you’ve accumulated over the past several months.
Since the hospital wasn’t understaffed anymore, your manager has even managed to free up your Sundays from now on. It definitely has improved your physical and mental health as compared to your previous self when you were working 14-hour shifts straight for 7 days a week.
Your best friend was beyond ecstatic to find out that you’re free for the day, and he wasted no time coming to pick you up early in the morning, insisting on bringing you on a day trip.
So now you are sitting in Haknyeon’s car, and god knows where he’s bringing you to because he wouldn’t tell you what the itinerary even was for the day ahead.
It was now the beginning of summer, and Haknyeon clearly was taking you somewhere away from the city. Both of you passed all of the highways and eventually ended up on a riverside road just a little outside of Seoul.
It was kind of a long drive, around 4 and a half hours to be exact. Many times you’ve offered to take over the wheel, but the male insisted that he was fine and you deserve to be in the passenger seat instead.
“Rude Haknyeon, I’ll show you that I’m just as good as a driver like Sangyeon and Jacob oppa.” You pouted and crossed your arms.
“Yeah, rather convincing, Y/N. Remember how you were desperately calling for me in the middle of the night back during your first year in college when your car swerved right into a tree because you got too nervous to drive on your own? And oh, may I add, you were also crying over the phone and it took me a good minute to try and figure out whatever you were trying to tell me.”
“Shut up. We don’t talk about that.”
Haknyeon was clearly winning this whole debate, and he begin singing his lungs out on his so-called victory song, Young Tak’s Jjin-iya. You on the other hand, were sulking and decided to turn your head towards the window, trying your best to ignore the ever-so-slightly annoying song that was getting on your nerves while taking in the scenery in front of you.
After 10 more debate topics and bickering (because your friend is a tease like that), you both eventually arrived at your destination. Your friend has brought you to Haeundae, one of the famous beaches in Busan. As you both stepped out of the car, Haknyeon immediately went to the boot of his car and brought out a huge basket filled with whatever items he brought for the day.
He quickly grabbed hold of your wrist and brought you to the beach. There were quite a number of people here today, reasonable as most families and couples would’ve come to spend the good weather out at the beach. But Haknyeon manages to find a quiet spot where the both of you could truly enjoy the peaceful time today.
Haknyeon wasted no time in taking out the first item from the basket, a huge blue beach cloth and laying it down on the sand. Slowly, he took out all of the remaining items from the basket, most of them being food, to be honest.
What surprised you was that he picked out all of your favourite food and snacks that you literally consume whenever you wanna have a cheat or fulfilling day. Japanese fruit sandwiches, onigiris, chips, you name it he has got them. Oh, and yes he brought along his handy-dandy trustworthy Bluetooth speaker he’s been using for years that he loves and swears by it.
“Since when have you become a chef, Mr Ju Haknyeon. I thought you were a business consultant, not a restaurant owner.”
“Anything for my bestie, am I right?”. He gives you his signature cheeky smile, and you have to mentally ask your heart to stop beating so quickly.
Stop being so cute for the love of God.
With every bite you had, you couldn’t help but constantly give out this mmmmm pleasure sound, indicating how delicious every single meal was, and your friend couldn’t be much happier as it felt like he had gotten a trophy from a race or something.
You both enjoyed the meal and had a good chat about every single topic that comes to mind. You both reminisce back on the good old high school and college days, where multiple times Haknyeon has saved your ass from being called to detention for being late to class to almost missing your graduation day in college because you somehow lost the high heels that you planned to wear with your matching dress that day.
It was hilarious catching up with all of the crazy adventures you both had throughout the years, and Haknyeon with his bright and gagman persona made it a lot more memorable.
“I’m so glad you were with me from the beginning, Haknyeon. Never would I have thought to have gone through heaven and hell if I was alone.”
“Likewise, Y/N. I couldn’t have had a better bestie than you.”
You smiled and gave your best friend the biggest hug. “I just wish for us to be together for as long as we can.”
With that, Haknyeon breaks off the hug and grabs hold of your shoulders, looking deep into your eyes. He hesitated for a few moments, before deciding that it was the right time for him to speak about that certain topic that he has been desperately wanting to for the past couple of weeks now.
“Y/N. I know you’re probably sick of hearing this from me, but still, I want to make it clear to you. I still love you, even after all these years. I’ve never once given up hope on you.”
“And?”
He swallowed. “A-and. I mean, y’know we’ve been getting a lot closer for the past few months, crashing into each other’s place throughout the weeks, having tons of fun and cute movie and date nights at the restaurants in town. I just… wanna let this thing that has been bothering me for weeks now. I don’t mind if you don’t give me an answer, but just hear me out. I-I just… I want-”
“I’ll be your girlfriend.”
“Wa-wait what?”
You chuckled. “Oh my god, Haknyeon. I swear I’m gonna be dosing off to sleep waiting for you to blurt those words out. I know you still love me since the first day we met back in high school in the science laboratory. I gotta say I admire your persistence, young lad. Even what I was still with the ex who shall not be named.”
A burden was taken off of Haknyeon’s shoulders, and he immediately jumped right back into your embrace while rubbing his cheeks against yours. He was like a puppy who has just gotten their biggest treat yet.
“Thank you, Y/N. Thank you thank you thank you!!!”
The hug lasted for a good few minutes, both of you taking in each other’s scent while resting both of your heads on each other’s shoulders.
That was until Haknyeon broke off the hug for the second time now, as he moved his fingers right onto your plump lips.
“May I?”.
“About damn time, Ju.”
No words were needed. He lowered his head and crashed his lips onto yours. It’s like you both have been waiting for eternity for this to happen, how long you both have waited for this day to come. He wasted no time in exploring your lips, kissing you deeper as he tilted his head, and you did the same.
Breaking off the kiss, he eventually scooped you up bridal style and brought you straight into the waters. As the sun starts to set, you both spend the rest of the remaining time kicking and splashing each other with water at the shore. By the end of the day, you both were soaking wet, but no regrets were made.
Haknyeon then lifts you up in his arms once again, giving you another kiss on the lips as you lean down and wrap your legs around him, both resting your foreheads with one another.
“I love you, Y/N. More than you could ever imagine.”

It’s Sunday. I wake up to the sunlight peeking through my curtains and the feeling of my phone vibrating. I look at my phone screen and ‘yunjin’ in big bold letters is brightening up my screen, blinding my eyes as I had just woken up.
“Yunjin, seriously it's 4.” I said angrily.
“Uhh yeah pm, girl you need to wake up we're going to a party! ” yunjin says cheerfully.
“Classes start tomorrow though.” I say with a groan.
“Exactly, pregame party!” She says with joy.
“Gosh, fine I'll see you there. Send me the info.” But before I can hang up Yunjin interrupts me,“Wait! Open your door I'm outside.”
I look at my apartment door and let out a deep breath. I open the door, and see yunjin holding 3 dresses in her hand. I look at Yunjin with a straight face “Girl you know damn well I have my own clothes.”
“Yeah, but if you wanna show up to a party looking homeless be my guest— but i’m still gonna make you look fine as hell.” Yunjin said with confidence.
“oh!?" I exclaimed.
“nonono ugh yk what I meant!”
Tumblr media
I eventually set on this black silk dress. It’s basic but it's the best one out of Yunjin’s options. we're outside of Juyeon, the football quarterback’s house. When I walk in I immediately get hit with the stench of cheap alcohol , weed, and sweaty boys. I look to my right and see that Yunjin is occupied with her friend, Chaewon. I sigh, and look straight ahead of me seeing my best friend, Haknyeon.
We’ve been best friends since sophomore year so I instantly feel relieved when I see him. I walk up to him and give him a warm embrace.
“Heyy!" Haknyeon says with joy.
“Haknyeon!"
“lmao you guys saw each other like yesterday" Yunjin says from behind me. I turn around, and see Chaewon next to her. I give a bright smile to her, and she returns it to me. My attention returns back to Haknyeon when he blurts out “y/n, can I get you a drink?”
" nah i dont wanna be hangover for my first day of college” I respond
“same, this is sprite” he replies showing me the contents inside his cup with a cheesing grin.
It's been 3 hours since me and Yunjin arrived, and all I've been doing is talking to Haknyeon. Right now we're on a couch downing our 5th cola can “Haknyeon istg if we get cavities- "
" we aren't it's just cherry cola! “ I look to my right hearing some cheering and see Juyeon and his teammates. I smile then I remember whos in the team, my ex, we ended on not so good terms…
“shit.” I sigh.
“what?!” he exclaimed.
“Juyeon’s team.” he looks at them, then looks back at me confused.
“who's on the team dumbass?”
Haknyeon thinks a bit. “Yeonjun!”
“ yeah?” I hear behind me. I turn around and see none other than Yeonjun.
By then, Yunjin spots us and rushes over to us “guys what’s that over there?!” Yeonjun looks to where her finger is pointing she grabs me and Haknyeon and pulls us to a hallway.
“plan something out” she says than pushes us in a empty bedroom.
“What do we do?” Haknyeon asks it's silent for four straight minutes until I think of something
“be my boyfriend!” I exclaim
“what!?”
“I mean like, fake boyfriend.” I put my hand out signalling for him to take it
“just for right now” he accepts the invite and holds my hand. I pull him outside of the room. I spot Yeonjun with his friends. He then looks at me and Haknyeon then our hands that are intertwined.
Haknyeon then puts his hands on my jawline and pulls me into a deep passionate kiss, after a few seconds we pull away to take a breath, we both turn to the direction Yeonjun was in and see him bolting out the door. We both let out a breathy laugh, Haknyeon than brings me to his car and we burst out laughing at what just happend
“YOU SHOULD’VE SEEN THE LOOK ON HIS FACE!" Haknyeon exclaimed, I can't even say anything because I'm laughing so hard that soon I'll have abs forming. Eventually the laughter dies down and the car is filled with silence, a comfortable silence.
“Haknyeon I-" I turn to look at Haknyeon and he cuts me off with a quick kiss we both look at each other in the eyes before I pull him in closing the gap between us, the kiss was more aggressive and heated. it soon turned into making out.
“mmmh, fuck i want you so bad baby~” his hands start going to my chest, and he starts fondling with my breasts. I bite my lip as his thumbs hover over my nipples.
“are you sure?” Haknyeon asks
“I'm sure” I reply. Haknyeon brings me onto his lap so I'm facing him. I feel his hard cock in between my thighs making my breath hitch. I start slowly grinding on his cock, my dress riding up my thigh causing my bare pussy to make contact with his clothed cock.
I take off his grey sweatpants and bring it down to his ankles, I palm him through his boxers, smiling seductively while biting my lip. Haknyeon throws his head back groaning “fuckk~” this goes on for a minute, the air is filled with whines from haknyeon till he finally speaks up “p-please no teasing please please, need to be inside you”
“only because you're being such a good boy for me~” I finally pull down his boxers and sink onto him, both of us letting out a desperate moan for more. I move up and down on his hard cock and our moans get louder and more erratic.
“F-fuck g-gonna cum mommy~” Haknyeon pleads
“me too baby" I giggle. He releases inside me and I cum all over his cock. I ride out my high, the car is filled with deep and heavy breathing. we both let out a breathy laugh, I lay my head on his shoulder and let out a breath
“damn y/n if I knew you felt that good I would've done that a lot sooner.” Haknyeon confesses.
‘shut the fuck up Hak” I roll my eyes sarcastically while smiling. I go back to the passenger seat and haknyeon checks his phone and gasps dramatically
“holy shit, guess who liked my post!!”
“who??” I ask genuinely curious.
“TZUYU!!!” My smile slowly fades, Tzuyu is his crush. I don't know why but I feel some sort of pit in my stomach, why am I mad? We're just friends. Haknyeon continues squealing as if he's a little girl who just got candy.
I put on a bright smile for him when he turns back to me “OH MY GOD WHAT SHE SAY?!”
“nothing she just, liked it…”
“oh”
“But she totally likes me back right?!”
I look in front of me out the windshield “mhmm” I say quietly “I have to go, I came with Yunjin so…”
“Oh alr bye n/n” I give him a small grin then head out of the passenger seat and start walking towards Juyeon’s house to find Yunjin.
Tumblr media
It's the first day of college and I woke up at 5 to call Yunjin so we can get ready together
“You fucked Haknyeon!?!?" Yunjin exclaimed
I widen my eyes “yeah.."
" in his car?!” Yunjin shouts " I nod
“you don't seem to happy about it, what happened?"
“well like right after he started talking and obsessing over his crush."
“ew tf?!"
“ikr like I don't even know what to think.” A realization comes to my head “are we still friends?” I whisper to myself not loud enough for Yunjin to hear but loud enough to know something came out of my mouth
“what was that?”
" nothing” " oh okay, well I'm done so I'm picking you up, be ready in five minutes. byeee!”
“ bye pookie" I hang up the phone and think about what I'm gonna do when I see haknyeon. I hope we can just forget about it and move on, cause it obviously didn't mean anything to him.
Tumblr media
Me and Yunjin arrive at the campus and get our dorm keys
“omg y/n we're roommates!” Yunjin cheerfully exclaims
“really!?!”
“Yess girl eeee!” Yunjin squeals, as we walk to the dorm building Yunjin clings onto my arm. I feel my phone vibrate in my right pocket, I take out my phone for both me and Yunjin to see who it is. ‘**Haknyeon**’ lights up the screen
“I say let it ring” Yunjin confesses with a smile
“I can't do that, we're still friends” I pick it up because i don't wanna seem rude
“hi Hak!" I exclaim. by this time me and Yunjin are at our floor where our room was.
“hii n/n!!"
“did you arrive to the campus yet?" I ask him
“yeah in my room rn" he answers. me and yunjin stop infront of our door and smile at each other
“me and yunjin just got to our room!" we step inside
“oh?" I exclaim
“damn it's tiny as hell” yunjin saying exactly what i was thinking.
“well we have to live here for the rest of the year...” I say
" yeah but, at least I'm here with you" Yunjin then squeals tickling my side, we both start laughing then I hear my phone yelling at me
“Y/N HELLO CAN YOU HEAR ME, IF YOU DON'T ANSWER I WILL HANG UP” Haknyeon whisper yells exaggerating
" oh my god, what you even call me for Hak??" I yell back at him
“let's meet up, I'm by the big water fountain in the middle of the campus, I also got your favorite snack!!”
I smile with joy "Can Yunjin come?!?"
Haknyeon rolls his eyes, okay I didn't know that, but I could tell he did by the way he clicked his tongue
“no dumbass, just us.." I think about it for a bit, is he gonna apologize for last night with Tzuyu?
“alr fine"
“okay see you n/n~" he hangs up on me before I can even say goodbye. I turn to Yunjin and she's unpacking
“girl I gotta go, I'm meeting up with Haknyeon"
“you need me to go with you??"
“no don't worry I'm good, but I'll be at the water fountain." I tell her where I'm gonna be just incase
“alr be safe honey bunny"
“okok bye pookie bear" I say before shutting our door
Tumblr media
The fall leaves are blowing in the wind all around me, I'm feeling at peace as there's not a lot of people outside right now. Considering it's the first day of college, figured people would be exploring the campus. I spot the fountain and see a couple sharing snacks on it. cute. I ignore them and look around the fountain, not spotting Haknyeon. I sit on the fountain not far from the couple. I call Haknyeon. the guy's phone rings. weird. he picks up and I hear two Haknyeon’s, realization flushes into me. my face drops. I get up from my spot on the fountain and take a closer look at the couple, Haknyeon and… Tzuyu!?!?
I sprint before he sees me but it's too late
“n/n!" I hear him call. I ignore him and roll my eyes. why am I jealous?? someone pulls my hand so I can face them, Haknyeon. “y/n did you not hear me??” Haknyeon asks
" oh I did, I just didn't wanna bother you while your with her” I say, being honest
"but I called you to meetup?”
" yeah but,” I think for a little before speaking again " isn't this your first time hanging out with her alone tho? I didn't wanna disturb...”
Hakyeon sighs and looks down at his feet “yeah but,” he holds my left hand and lifts my head up so we are making eye contact “I wanna hangout with you and, talk to you.” His hand is still holding mine and his other is on my jawline we stare into each other's eyes for a little
“wait, but why tho, this is your crush we're talking about, the girl you've like since juinor year, I thought you would be ecstatic??”
Haknyeon looks down again “she has a boyfriend” he says quietly
“oh” I feel a bit of relief but still feel distraught for haknyeon
“wanna go to my room?” Haknyeon asks I nod and smile a bit. Haknyeon pulls me since our hands are still intertwined. I text Yunjin where I'm gonna be so she isn't worried and when I look up from my phone I see we're already at his room. Haknyeon unlocks it with a grin
“ladies first” haknyeon says with his hand out. I look around and realize it's just my room but inverted “I haven't fully unpacked, but it still looks nice, right?”
I turn back at him with a smile and nod “yeah” he smiles back at me
“wanna see my room?”
“Mhmm”
he leads me to his room.
“aw cutee” I say as I see the baby photos of haknyeon on his desk. I lay on his bed “do you have a roommate yet?” I ask while propping myself up with my elbows, he looks at me
“oh uh yeah, his names Sangyeon, he’s really nice!” He smiles while scratching the back of his neck, “can we, talk about what happened after Juyeons party?”
I don't know what to say so I just spit something out . “it was a mistake I-” before I can continue Hakneyon interrupts me “oh yeah?” he says while tilting his head to the side, I nod hesitantly
“you're my best mistake y/n”
before I can say something Haknyeon interrupts me “I love you…”
I look up at him and pull him in with his belt buckle “I love you too hak” we are both looking at each other with a hint of lust and he’s hovering over me.
He closes the gap between us and kissing me passionately. I sit up and scoot over so there's space on the bed for him. He caresses my cheek, moving the hair out of my face. I blush slightly. I tug on the hem of Haknyeon's sweater hinting to him I want it off. He takes off his sweater in one fast swoop. I trace my right hand on his chest hovering over his nipple, Haknyeon’s breath shudders at this. I take off my shirt at a slow pace, teasing him. Haknyeon's eyes widen as he sees I'm not wearing a bra his hands reach out to my breasts
“please" he looks down at me with a sly look, I nod, his hands touch my soft chest and I immediately melt in his touch. He starts playing with my nipples and I look up at him with a pout. I start whining from the slight pleasure I'm getting. “Hak, please I want more~"
he grins at me “you're so fucking needy baby" he answers and starts undoing his belt. He takes off his pants and boxers all at once knowing I can’t wait any longer “your turn baby" he says. I take off my skirt revealing my pink lace panties
“holy shit you're so wet” Haknyeon puts his hand down my panties gathering my arousal on his fingers. He shows me how wet I am by spreading his fingers “all for me~" he then puts his fingers in his mouth sucking it clean while groaning " mmm you taste so good n/n~” my panties finally come off, and I spread my legs showing him my bare pussy. I place my hand on his head playing with his hair for a bit, after a while I push his head down to my pussy. He immediately gets to work and starts kitty licking my slit.
I throw my head back and whimper “fuck~ feels so good hak” as he's eating me out I put my hand to my clit rubbing it in circles. Haknyeon then takes my hand and moves it aside, replacing my hand with his. The pleasure is too much, I feel a knot form in my stomach “H-Hak gonna cum!” I exclaim. He pulls away and I whine “nonono Haknyeon please” I drag out the e and try to close my legs for some friction, but Haknyeon prevents me to do that and keeps my leg open with his knee. He’s hovering over me. I feel his tip, wet from his precum, hit my stomach.
“Let's cum together baby okay?”
I nod and spread my legs, I feel him align his tip with my slit and he slides in with no problem. Haknyeon let's out a groan with a ramble of curses, I roll my eyes from the slight pleasure I'm getting and let out a loud moan. Haknyeon covers my mouth hinting for me to be quiet. I look up at him while my eyebrows are scrunched up. I push his hand away and bring him into an aggressive kiss. As we're kissing he thrusts in and out at a slow pace, I whine into the kiss, hakneyon then speeds up and thrusts hard hitting my g-spot
“yes yes yes, keep on going baby~” I say
“I-I'm close y/n”
I nod to let him know that I am too, the knot in my stomach breaks and I clench around him making his release inside me, he falls onto me whispering thank yous and praise in my ear. He falls next to me so he's laying next to me, we face each other “I love you, y/n” Haknyeon confesses.
“I love you too, Haknyeon”

What was more cliché? Falling in love with your cousin's best friend, or falling in love with your best friend's brother? You were in both situations, of course, but trying to handle it casually is what you were doing all through university.
Haknyeon was one of Changmin's best friends, your cousin. Soon, Haknyeon was Hani's older brother, she's your best friend. Ju Haknyeon was the reason why your poor little heart was beating relentlessly.
The only cliché that poor Haknyeon didn't apply to – thankfully, in your eyes – was that he would be the coveted of the university campus. Quite the opposite. Always buried in books and spending most of your time in the library or studying in the back of the room when you went to the apartment the Ju brothers shared for the weekend. Hani was also quite studious, but how did she know that her father's company would go straight to her brother; and she wasn't that good with business either, she preferred to follow her artistic career doing fashion together with you, her best friend.
Hani's older brother had a promising future as his father's successor and CEO at a large art company as well, so Hani wanted something in the area. That way she would be close to the family, but not as the one in charge of working hard for a whole company to function. In the midst of these little studies and daydreams, Haknyeon managed to have a little fun with his friends. He didn't want to be the biggest bore in the group who only thought about studying. But it also wasn't like he was going to go out to any frat party and let any girl get into his pants. Not when his eyes were always searching for you.
The boy also felt that he was living a little cliché when he found himself completely in love with his best friend's cousin, and his sister's best friend. Haknyeon was grateful to heaven that he wasn't part of the “Hey, stay away from her” part of the movie. Or having Changmin's death glare on him when the boy approached to talk. It was as if everything was flowing so perfectly that it really had to happen. Even if he didn't know how, because at every party the two of you barely talked, since you were always taking care of a drunk Hani's shit or laughing at Changmin's stumbles who insisted on saying that he hadn't drunk anything.
“I swear, just one cup” Changmin sobbed and before trying to stand up unaided, he stumbled forward into her arms. Luckily, Haknyeon was close enough to help you balance the boy.
“A cup every five minutes?” you asked, making both guys chuckle.
“Let me take it” Haknyeon proposed.
“There's no way you're going alone, you can stay” your smooth voice amidst the screaming, loud music and totally drunk people. For a second he tuned out of everything and focused on your small smile "I don't want to take away your fun."
“Ew” Haknyeon made a face “I'd rather go with you two away.”
For a second you wanted to ignore the lurch your heart gave when he stared at you as he said that. There could be a double meaning in that sentence. No way!
Putting your cousin to bed wasn't such an effort when you had Haknyeon's help. Not even with the weight of the drunk boy refusing to lie down.
“Are you… are you two going to leave me here?” Changmin whimpered while Haknyeon held him by the torso and you removed his shirt to wear one that didn't smell of alcohol.
“No, you silly” you chuckled “We'll be waiting for you downstairs, right?” your gaze shifted from Changmin to Haknyeon.
“Of course” he smiled at you and your cousin “I won't leave until you are well.”
He thanked with a murmur, lying down soon after. Before the two of you could leave, Changmin called out to you.
“Hey Hak, take good care of y/n” eyes closed, but Changmin had his head towards the door where you and Haknyeon were “She likes you a lot.”
Motherfucker. You could smother Changmin with the pillow, maybe. It wouldn't be a bad idea. Your aunt wouldn't even blame you, you could say it was an accident…
“Idiot” you muttered as you quickly descended the stairs, taking care not to fall on any step as Haknyeon calmly descended behind you.
She likes you a lot. Changmin's words echoing through his mind. Had it been the drink or had he really been sincere? Haknyeon knew that his best friend wouldn't lie like that, even more so if it was about his cousin.
“Hey—” he wanted so badly to start this conversation, wanted so badly to ask a thousand questions to see if he reciprocated. But his cell phone rang and at the exact moment he answered. You were watching as he mumbled a few things, running his free hand through his beautiful, silky dark hair as he glared at you “Shit.”
"What there was? Is Hani okay?” was the first thing that crossed your mind, and judging by the worried expression on his face, that was it.
"Yeah. She just called me crying and told me to find her fast. I—"
“Go” you said.
“But Changmin… And you…”
“We'll be fine, Hak” his nickname said by you was so different and… Unique. Not that anyone called him that, but hearing it coming out of your mouth was like music.
“I promise to stop by later” as he was saying, the slow steps towards him seemed like they would kill you inside until he stopped right in front of you “I'll see how she is and let you know in more detail what happened.”
"Okay. Please, take care."
He nodded, moving close enough to touch his lips to your forehead.
“We finish our conversation some other time, okay?”
Oh no. You swallowed hard and only managed to wave before he hurried out of the apartment. You didn't know why you were shaking so much. By hearing news from Hani, by your cousin indirectly declaring your feelings to Haknyeon. Or that he wants to talk to you about it after feeling his lips on your forehead.
A lot for a single night. Maybe you needed to smother your face in the pillow right now.
Tumblr media
Who never witnessed a fight at a frat party that threw the first stone. But being the reason for a fight was what made Hani's eyes red from crying.
Ending the three-year relationship had not been easy at all, even more so after discovering betrayals and lies, it made her feel completely stupid. Seeing Jihoon making out with one of the girls who claimed to be her friend… You always tried to warn her, but Hani liked to see the good in people, even if Subin wasn't as friendly with her as she imagined.
“Then Eric came to help me with that stupid and stupid scene” Hani sighed once more “He hugged me and tried to comfort me, that's when Jihoon arrived and started a fight.”
“Oh god, what an idiot” you mumbled quickly, letting your friend continue.
“But you know better, Eric wasn't alone and when I blinked, the two had grappled. Soon Hyunjae and Sunwoo arrived to help Eric, and Sangyeon's screams for the boys to stop kept echoing in my mind because it all started because of me.”
“None of that, young lady!” you scolded her "It started because Jihoon doesn't accept that you're moving on and wants you to suffer for him all the time."
“Y/n…”
“And seeing you hugging Eric made him a complete idiot because you were supposedly with someone else.”
“But me and Eric—”
“There is nothing, but they can start to have it.”
“Only when you and my brother start your romance too.”
Touché! You thought. The loud sigh betrayed that it wouldn't happen anytime soon, but not before Hani knew what had happened the night before.
And it was with the same concerned look at your friend that you told it all, not missing a single detail; even the feel of Haknyeon's lips on your forehead. It was like that whole little moment had become a whole year for you.
“Ew, you talking about my own brother like that…”
“You asked for this” your cheeks started to heat up, Hani was even going to retort to start a tease, but was interrupted by hurricane called Eric along with Haknyeon and Sunwoo.
“Hey girls” Eric greeted the two of you, shaking hands and then sitting down next to Hani.
The other two did the same, adding the fact that Haknyeon sat right next to you when he might as well have been next to his sister since she'd had such a bad experience last night.
“You're still hurt” she whined at the small bruise on Eric's face “And you too” the long sigh upon seeing Sunwoo with a cut lip “I feel guilty.”
“Don't feel” Sunwoo certified “He is much worse than all of us put together.”
“You all are a bunch of hotheads” you said simplistically “But thanks for taking care of my best friend.”
“We do this for our girls” Eric winked at you and then at Hani. No one but the Ju girl noticed the weird look on her brother face. Even more so after Eric reached out and took his hand and yours too.
“We came to see how Changmin is doing” Sunwoo asked.
“Hungover, lousy and wanting to punch Jihoon too” you said.
“Great, let’s go for a second round—”
“No” you quickly cut Eric off in his enthusiasm “Don't even think about it.”
The afternoon went on like this. Conversation being thrown out, a bit of laughter during college lunch and a sullen Haknyeon for still remembering his smile after Eric said those words.
Tumblr media
The week went completely strange. When Haknyeon thought about talking to you about their last conversation, one of his friends always interrupted. Whether it was Eric to hug you and Hani, or one of the boys going to deliver something. One time Kevin had his arms draped over your shoulders and Hani's shoulders, blowing kisses all over your faces because you helped him with a design job. Studying fashion helped them with good designs and he needed a helping hand, yes.
The inflammation in Haknyeon's chest grew more and more. It was jealousy and he couldn't deny it, but he wouldn't say it aloud even to his sister either. Although she noticed and tried to reverse the situation, talking about Changmin's words and how Haknyeon could talk to you at any time.
He chose not to risk it. Books and studies, again, were his refuge and he didn't want to talk to you for a while. Maybe trying to forget that new and annoying feeling that was jealousy for someone who wasn't even his…
“Hak?” from the bedroom door, Hani called her brother who took his attention away from the computer in front of he to look at her “I ordered food for both of us” she smiled.
“Thanks” he nodded and turned back to his studies. It was these little dialogues that were killing Hani little by little. She knew he felt bad and was always trying to help, but now it seemed even more impossible to get Haknyeon out of his room to go out and try to interact with people.
"Is he not going to the party tonight?" Changmin took a portion of popcorn from Kevin's bowl, hearing his friend swear at him with his mouth full.
“He didn't even leave his room for breakfast” Hani pretended to cry “I'm worried.”
“Seeing Juhak in love is so weird” Kevin mumbled with some popcorn in his mouth, after chewing, he finished his line “Maybe he doesn't know how to handle it.”
"You think?" Hani asked.
“Yes, you see” he sat up straight in his chair, letting Changmin finish off the popcorn while he chatted with Hani “He never stays until the end of parties, he has rejected all the girls who approached him up until the present moment. And there was even that cute moment when the two of them took care of this drunk asshole here” he pushed Changmin away.
“Hey, because of me they awakened the feelings.”
No one there could deny that. It was because of Changmin's speech that you and Haknyeon now thought about your feelings. Even if the boy couldn't handle his jealousy bit by bit.
“He can try to deal with it somehow, but we need to give it a little push…”
“He doesn't leave the room at all” Hani put her hands on her head, slowly messing up her hair.
“Then we’ll take y/n to his room.”
"What?" Changmin almost shouted “Wait… It's okay for my cousin and your brother to be together, but… But… In his room?”
"What's the problem?" Kevin and Hani asked together.
A short break for him to finish off the last popcorn.
“It's just— Well, you know what happens with two people in a room… So…”
“Or in a party bathroom” Hani shrugged.
“In the car too, and it's one of the best places” Kevin added.
“Fuck off” Changmin yelled again. The two beside you laughing.
“It will happen anywhere, Kyu. And you have to be calm because they both like each other, and that my brother didn't fuck up the whole college for that…”
“You're right” Kevin defended “Imagine her in love with Hyunjae, for example.”
“Or worse” Hani smiled “She going out with Sunwoo…”
“For God's sake” Changmin sighed, closing his eyes “Let's get started with this plan before my mind makes me think about these disgusting possibilities of you two.”
Tumblr media
You knew it was yet another plan by Changmin and Hani – because your cousin was a terrible keeper of secrets – you just didn't know that the main thing was to get you and Haknyeon together.
Being at the Ju brothers' house to “study” wouldn't be a bad idea since you lived doing that, but what about when that study was washed down with a few drinks and video game sessions? Few friends, if not the closest, right there. Hani was excited and chatted all the time with Kevin and Changmin who were as laughing as she was.
“And your brother” Changmin asked falsely as you approached the group “Aren't you going to leave the room?”
The trio glared at you after Hani sighed heavily.
“It's been difficult to get him out of there. I only managed to pack a few appetizers, but I forgot to pack a drink…”
“I could” Kevin said “But I need to go to the bathroom.”
“And me—”
“Okay, is your plan for me to bring Haknyeon something to drink?” Hani and Kevin quickly glanced at Changmin, who was now holding a disposable cup between his lips.
"What?" he felt Kevin slap his arm, muttering loudly then "What the… She got part of the family brain, bro."
“And you didn't say anything? Idiot” Hani snapped.
Laughing and letting them have a light fight with your cousin, you went into the kitchen for a bottle of water. Maybe it was enough since in study section Haknyeon didn't like anything alcoholic. And you sighed to remember it. Damn it, your thoughts hit you like rain as you stopped in front of his bedroom door.
Knock and then call? Or just call? Maybe burst in… But what if… What if he's asleep or in a moment he doesn't want to be interrupted?
“Damn” you thought to yourself, then did it without thinking. He knocked lightly, calling the boy's name as he slowly opened the door.
There he was. Immersed in one of the books while his eyes read the fine print without looking up to see that he had entered.
You stood there for a few seconds, enough for it to dawn on you that you were inside Ju Haknyeon's room. A sigh escaped your lips and you closed the door behind you, stepping completely inside the room.
“They said you weren’t drinking anything, so—”
The boy jumped out of his chair when he recognized your voice in there. He really hadn't heard you come in, even more so now seeing you close enough to notice; you were even more beautiful. Casual clothes, a shy smile painting your lips reddened, perhaps because of the drink you had ingested. Or biting so nervously, but nobody needed to know that.
“Okay, yeah… Thanks” he tried to smile, knowing it had come out more like a grimace.
Haknyeon got up from his chair to walk over to you, reaching out to take your water bottle and thank you once more. As soon as he turned to go back to his study table, you snorted.
“God, why are you such an idiot?”
"Sorry, what?" he turned back to you, the creases on his forehead forming from arching his eyebrows high enough.
“I'm right here, Haknyeon. I—"
"The room is full, and they're probably looking for you."
The indifference in his tone hurt a little, but remembering Hani's words that her brother had never experienced this, you tried to focus. He sat back down in the chair, continuing to face you this time.
Maybe waiting for an answer from you, or some curse… Haknyeon's chest burned with anxiety as he tried to guess your next steps. He just hadn't counted on your path to him bathed in fury and, yes, passion.
He was taken aback when you snuggled between his legs and, taking advantage of being at a considerable height with him sitting and you standing in front of him, your hands quickly went to his soft face.
“But I was looking for you” you whispered close enough to feel his breath catch for a few seconds. Upon releasing, Haknyeon swore his cheeks burned.
Unable to say anything, his hands gripped your waist before crashing their lips onto his. An urgent kiss, but gentle since he wanted to feel every movement of your lips and tongue. He wanted to convey what he was feeling there and perhaps with a silent apology to you.
After kissing for a while, the urge for oxygen made the two of you stop for a while. But without letting go of each other, his hands still on your waist and you gently holding his face between your hands.
“I wanted to tell you so much. I—” Haknyeon closed his eyes, kissing your lips one more time before continuing, “I'm sorry, y/n. This is so pathetically new to me.”
“It's okay” you smiled against his lips “We can experience this new feeling together.”
"Oh yeah. Minus the jealousy, right?”
“Awn, were you jealous of me?” Haknyeon's small confession made him snort, then pull you onto his lap as he heard your thin squeal of laughter follow.
“I have a lot of feelings for you” he confessed, caressing your waist after you settled in his lap “And I'm in no rush to experience them all.”
“Make yourself comfortable, Mr. Ju.”
“Oh, sure” his hands roamed under your shirt, touching the warm skin of your belly. You curled up in his lap, kissing those soft lips that, before on your forehead were magic, along with his mouth was something beyond that.
You didn't imagine hearing statements from Haknyeon and that he was really in love with you from the first time he saw you. You also didn't imagine ending up in his bed that night, listening to Hani cheer in the other room since you hadn't left since you went to get her brother water.
“I officially have a sister-in-law and best friend” she crooned that morning, like a good morning alarm clock. While you and Haknyeon laughed, feeling the boy snuggle your body even closer to his bare chest.

haknyeon
“haknyeonie!” you burst into the room, excitedly. “i made cookies- ah.” you paused in your tracks. there, on the bed, he was asleep. you approached him slowly. he looked so pretty like this, a small smile on his lips. he must be dreaming.
you kneeled down so you were closer to him and brought your thumb to caress his cheek. then, you leaned in and pressed a firm kiss to his lips. you could hear him whine adorable as he slowly woke up from his little nap.
when he blinked his eyes open and glanced at you, he widened his eyes as his mouth dropped open.
“did you just wake me up like i’m aurora from sleeping beauty?”
you choked, “uh-”
he sat up, looking at you with a slight flush on his cheeks. he took your hand in his, with an awfully straight face. “i’ve always dreamed of that happening.”
you stared for a good minute before bursting out laughing. it was the cutest thing you’ve heard from him, especially with him so serious
he pouted at your response, “what’s so funny? you’re the one who kissed me awake…”
you smiled fondly, pinching his cheek, “you’re just so cute.” you pointed behind you. “come, i made cookies.”
he pouted even more, his cheeks puffy and cute, “can’t you nap with me?” and you couldn’t help but actually contemplate his suggestion. he looked so cute and warm in his sweater. but you shook out of the trance, shaking your head rapidly.
“but cookies taste good when warm,” you defended. you pressed another kiss to his cheek just for the fun of it.
he giggled and thought for a moment before nodding slightly yet skeptically, “you’re right about that.”
he stood up from the bed and slung his arm around your waist. he tilted his head and pulled you into a quick kiss. you immediately felt yourself blush in response.
he smiled.
“you’re the cute one.”
sunwoo
you hated working so much. but, it was inevitable that you had to get it done, no matter how much time you spend procrastinating.
you turned around when you heard the shuffle of blankets of the bed behind you. sunwoo was sitting against the headboard, his phone bright and in his hands. he was staring at you with sleepy eyes. you could tell with the way they adorably drooped.
you sighed, shaking your head. “if you’re tired, just go to sleep, sun.”
“no,” he stubbornly refused. he crossed his arms over his chest, trying to look tough but to be honest, he just looked cute. “i’m waiting for you,” he mumbled.
“but-”
“no buts,” he glared, his hand reaching up to ruffle his hair briefly. “i’ll just play games on my phone or something.”
you sighed again. there was no use arguing with him. you always knew he was a sort of stubborn type of person. so, you turned back around and continued typing away on your computer. after a while, you began to get a headache, so you turned around.
and of course, he fell asleep.
you couldn’t help but smile fondly. you got up from the chair and walked over to him, crouching down so that you were face to face with his sleeping expression. you gently caressed his hair. you always thought he looked the cutest when asleep.
you leaned down and impulsively kissed him on the lips. after a while, you got back up to finish your work but you were interrupted by a hand catching your wrist.
bewildered, you looked back and he was now sitting up. but his eyes were still closed and his lips pouty.
“a-are you sleep walking or something?” you stammered.
“no, i’m fully awake.”
you looked at him skeptically, “doesn’t look like it-” but you stopped because his eyes were now open and looking right at you. they were wide and cute like a puppy. “oh.”
he tugged at your arm and pulled you into the bed with him, throwing the blankets over you.
“no more working for you,” he whispered.
“but-”
he shushed you with a firm kiss.
“okay, fine.”
eric
your phone pinged in your pocket. it was a text from your boyfriend, eric, who you were just on your way to see.
i’m gonna take a nap, if i’m not awake by the time you get here… please wake me up with a kiss 😚😚
you giggled as you read the text over and over again. you picked up your pace on the way to his place. you just couldn’t wait to see him.
when you arrived, you headed straight to his room where he was supposedly sleeping. when you opened the door, you were met with a beautiful sight. the sun was setting, the orange lights shining prettily on his glowing skin. his face was relaxed as continued to sleep on and on.
you smiled softly as you approached him. you gazed at him for a while, admiring his peaceful features.
then, you remembered the text he had sent to you. so, you leaned in, caressing his cheek before pressing a soft kiss to his lips, lingering there for a while.
he woke up almost immediately, with wide eyes, he startled you.
“you actually did it,” he breathed out, smiling widely and lovingly at you.
“yeah, you said-” you let out a yelp because he now was jumping up and tackling you into a hug. you stared at him, amused. “eric... you just woke up.”
“don’t care.”
you escaped from his strong arms and began to run away.
“hey! come back, let me kiss you back!”
he chased you throughout the whole place.
“ah-” you felt him catch onto your wrist. in one swift movement, he turned you around and pulled you against his chest.
“i got you,” he whispered, slightly out of breath as he looked at you in such an attractive manner. you quickly began to blush, your cheeks turning red. his hand moved to your waist as he pulled you into a sweet kiss before eventually pulling you into bed to nap again.

Tumblr media
Relationships were a weird concept to you. Growing up, you’d never really been shown affection. Your parents weren’t the type to pack your lunch for school in the morning and send you off with a peck on the cheek followed by an ‘I Love You’.
In fact, they never told you that they loved you very often. Maybe a handful of times in your whole life did you hear those three words uttered from them. And even less did you hear that they were proud of you. It was worse when you took a step back and watched their own crumbling marriage.
As long as they’d been together, you never heard them tell the other how much they were appreciated. They fought more than they got along. You usually fell asleep to the sound of doors slamming and loud arguing in the hallway. When they finally decided to get a divorce, you almost cried out of joy. They were draining more out of you than each other.
So, perhaps that had to do with your fucked up view of relationships as you became an adult. You could never fully comprehend what love was since you didn’t exactly have stellar role models. Boyfriends came and went, losing interest as soon as they realized how disconnected you were. Your heart was never truly in it.
And then, you met Haknyeon.
Sweet sweet Haknyeon, who only cared about your happiness and your well being. Haknyeon, who didn’t ask you for more than you could give. Who didn’t push you for answers when you shut him out. Who patiently waited on the sidelines while you rebooted yourself.
If there were a higher being out in the universe, they’d done an excellent job at putting all the best qualities into Ju Haknyeon. By some miracle or a stroke of luck, he found his way to you. You’ll always think that he deserves better than you, but you’ll also always be eternally grateful that you have him.
As summer takes its last breath and the air begins to chill, leaves wilting to the streets and crunching below the feet of passersby, your motivation to get up in the mornings has started its tumultuous decline. You don’t know what it is about the change in seasons that continues to put a damper in your mood as the years go on, but it’s become almost too much to bear. It was no longer a dull pressure in the pit of your stomach and the back of your mind. Now it was a heaviness that settled in your heart and weighed you down.
It was a Thursday evening and you were tucked into bed already, despite a peek of the sun still visible over the horizon. Your head was pounding despite the room being silent. You curl into yourself further just as your bedroom door creaks open. Haknyeon whispers an apology, going to exit the room when he sees the state you’re in.
It was standard for him to leave you alone until you were ready to talk. He knew you had a hard time opening up, considering what you’d grown up with, and he didn’t want to be the person who pestered you to tell him what was wrong. He wanted you to feel comfortable coming to him first. Haknyeon couldn’t handle being the reason you were pushed to your breaking point.
But for some reason, this time is different. You don’t want to be left alone. You want to be held. You want him to kiss your forehead and tell you he loves you, unlike what you had when you were younger.
“Hak, wait,” you call, voice slightly hoarse. “Stay. Please.”
He’s taken aback by your request, but doesn’t hesitate to follow through. He climbs into the bed behind you, wrapping his arms around your center. In spite of the fact that this wasn’t a usual occurrence, that cuddling was something you’ve only done a couple other times, he embraces you as if this was second nature for him. As if holding you in his arms was his very life source.
“Are you sure?” He asks softly, words spoken gently into your hair.
“Mhm, I want this,” you nod, nuzzling into his arm. “I have never felt this safe with anyone before.”
Haknyeon’s breathing stutters. You’ve never admitted this to him before, you’ve never ever said ‘I Love You’, but he’s always been willing to wait. He understood that this was a new territory for you. He was content loving you until you were ready to love him, even if it took months— even if it took years. That’s how much he cared for you. In his eyes, you were the reason there were stars in the sky. You were the reason why the sun rose in the morning and why the moon shone at night.
He kisses your temple. “I’ll be here to protect you.”
You turn in his arms to get a good look at his face. Because it was so rare that you were this close, you wanted to memorize his features from this distance. You trace his cheekbones and jawline with your thumb, eyes flickering down to his lips.
You lean forward, minimizing the gap between you to press your lips into a sweet kiss, almost as sweet as him. Haknyeon gasps out of surprise, but quickly reciprocates your affection, bringing up a hand to cup your face. He allows you to set the pace, to move at a speed you were comfortable with in case this was all you wanted.
When you pull back to catch your breath, he smiles, taking in how pretty you were. He could never get enough of you. He thinks that was his biggest flaw, being so greedy when it came to you. He couldn’t help but indulge himself every time you let him, though if it were a sin, he’d gladly commit it over and over again.
“However many years we have left, I wanna spend them all with you.”
You feel the tears dripping down your cheeks before you register that you’re crying. You couldn’t possibly fathom how Haknyeon came to find love in the form of you; the hollow shell of a person who’s never felt the warmth of another human in their life. You didn’t think you deserved someone like him. The only logical explanation was that you were a saint in a past life, and the higher being you mentioned earlier was rewarding you for it.
But even so, he loved you. Enough that he wasn’t afraid to spend the rest of his life with you waking up on the other side of the bed.
He swipes away some stray tears with the pad of his thumb and kisses your nose. You let out a small laugh, connecting your lips once more. It conveys all you want to say, but you know saying it out loud will make it concrete. It’ll solidify what you’ve been building up the courage to finally tell him.
“I wanna spend them all with you, too.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"when you get married, i'll pay you to let me sing at your wedding," Hak says before sticking his lollipop back in his mouth.
the two of you are sat in your bedroom, just hanging out as you always do.
he removes it again to use it as a microphone while singing the most horrendous cover of a song with too many high notes to count. Haknyeon is a gorgeous singer, he just purposely sings bad sometimes to make you laugh.
he continues to bounce around your bed while singing until you speak.
"not like that, hell no," you reply but unable to hold back a smile.
you think about his words. when you get married? did he want you to get married off already? why would he be singing... wouldn't he be the groom?
you've liked your best friend, Hak, for a year now, and you've only been falling deeper and deeper. somehow, everything he does makes your heart flutter. if he's a little too close, if he wraps an arm around you, if he waits for you after your night class on campus... you're flooded with butterflies.
you're almost sure he doesn't feel the same way, though. that's why you haven't even thought about confessing. as selfish as it is, you'd rather be close to Haknyeon through this friendship than ruin it completely just to tell him your feelings.
"hey.. why are you so lost in your thoughts. don't be so boring!" Haknyeon whines, snapping you back to reality. he gently takes hold of your shoulders and shakes, filling you with giggles.
then, his phone buzzes next to your legs, entangled from Haknyeon trying to tickle you.
when he picks up to check it, you watch as his face darkens before he tosses his phone to the side.
"what happened, Hak? everything okay?"
"yeah," he mumbles.
but you know he's not okay. you don't press him further, though. instead, you tell him that if he ever wants to tell you, you'll be ready to listen.
even though a week ends up passing before he tells you, you're still ready to listen.
he asks you to meet him at a café and you find him with dark circles under his eyes, messy hair hidden under a beanie and his leg shaking up and down with how nervous he is.
"hey Hak, what's up? are you okay?"
"no, i'm not," Haknyeon tells you, frankly.
he pushes a drink towards you. of course, he knows you so well that he was able to order your favourite drink for you in advance.
"i... keep getting texts from someone and it's been bothering me. they keep calling me, too, and i'm going insane."
your heart drops. Haknyeon doesn't even have to explain. you already know who he's talking about: his psycho ex.
they broke up almost a year ago, yet Hak still keeps receiving calls and texts from them. they've even shown up to his house, followed him around. they're a complete stalker.
everything had died down for a few months after Haknyeon went to the police, but now they're back again?
"i've contacted the police and they've said that the texts and calls pose no threat, that i should just block them. i do, i keep blocking them but they keep calling with different numbers. i don't even know whose calls to answer anymore, y/n, i'm going insane."
"show me," you say, gesturing for Haknyeon's phone.
with a pout and quivering lips, he hands it to you. you scroll through the messages, filled with anger. all of them talk about how Hak will never be able to find anyone as good as them, his ex. they tell him his life is over without him, that he'll die alone.
suddenly, you have an idea.
"Hak... i know what to do. you said they stalk your instagram too, right? but you have a restraining order on them so they can't see you in person?"
Haknyeon nods along to your words.
"okay... what do you think about being digital lovers? how about we post as if we're dating and show your ex that you can be happy without them?"
your heart races as you explain your idea, and honestly you don't even expect Haknyeon to agree. you're also mad at yourself because... are you just taking advantage of the situation to act on your feelings for Hak?
despite it all, Haknyeon, with red ears, nods at you.
"let's do it. and let's start right now," he says.
-
"no, what the hell, this angle is so ugly?" you whine as Haknyeon attempts to take a photo of your drinks.
"i'll do it," you snap before snatching the phone out of his hands. the boy is left pouting as you do all the work.
"okay, now put your hand in and complete the heart i'm making," you say.
even feeling Haknyeon's fingers touching yours makes your heart race, but you quickly tell yourself to shut up.
"there. now post this with the caption: 'first date... already so in love'," you say.
Haknyeon scoffs. "how do you come up with the most absurd ideas?"
you stick your tongue out at him.
he shakes his head but still posts and yep, before even a minute has passed, his ex is sending him messages again.
who's that? first date with who? you're lying. you're lying i know you are. you think this will get me to leave you? you need me, Hak. you need me.
"more like they need you. how pathetic. it's okay, Hak. the more we post, the more it'll convince them. just give it time and ignore them, okay? block this new number again. and if you're ever scared or can't sleep, just come to me. it's okay," you say, patting Haknyeon's shoulder.
the look he gives you is unlike anything you've seen before. his eyes are all watery and star-filled, and he looks at you as if you're someone else. his ears are red, too.
"everything okay?" you ask, your hand on his shoulder.
"y-yeah.. just fine," he replies.
this is the first time Haknyeon starts to suspect he has feelings for you.
-
a few days later, the two of you go to an art gallery. there, you take plenty of cringey but cute couple-shots, none of them showing your faces. though, it's very obvious that Haknyeon is in every photo.
"y/n, this is so pretty.. it's almost as pretty as you," Haknyeon says, giggling to himself while he shows you a painting of a flower garden.
"hey, now. you don't have to act like my boyfriend in real life, too," you say, feeling flustered.
"but.. you're pretty! it's true.." Haknyeon trails off and you clear your throat, unconsciously taking his hand as you guide him to the next painting.
Haknyeon's heart races and so does yours.
it's the second time Haknyeon realizes he's falling for you.
-
another day, another (fake) date with Haknyeon. the two of you walk hand-in-hand through the downtown streets while you snap pictures of your interlocked fingers. Haknyeon keeps fidgeting, not knowing what to do with his free hand and constantly worrying that he'll start sweating and you'll be grossed out by his wet palms.
"Hak, your hand looks weird... like, too stiff? just relax!" you say.
he clears his throat and nods with a small small. despite trying his best, he still looks too stiff and you decide to just head into a café to rest.
"you know what, i think your ex is still being annoying because they haven't seen your s/o's face.. maybe we should show our faces this time?" you point out.
"ah, but then.. all our friends will think we're for real, too," Haknyeon says, sadly.
and... so what? wouldn't that be good, too?
you nod your head, pointing your phone at the cake/drinks and Haknyeon who sits across from you. though, he stops you. he takes the phone out of your hands and takes a deep breath in through his nose.
he knows it. he knows it, now. he likes you.
"what if.. what if we do post a photo of our faces... as a real couple?" he asks, only meeting your eyes after he's done speaking.
"hm?"
Haknyeon clears his throat and tries again. "y/n.. what if we date for real?"
your heart starts racing as you take in the sincerity in his eyes.
"do you.. like me?" you ask.
Haknyeon slowly nods and you're filled with butterflies.
"i like you too, Hak... l-let's take a selfie this time, then," you say, grinning as Haknyeon quickly gets up to sit beside you instead of across from you.
he carefully wraps an arm around you as you take the photo. the second the shutter goes off, he turns and gently presses his lips to your cheek.
"i've always wanted to do that," he says, cheekily.
"but Hak. how can you sing at my wedding if you're my husband?" you ask, reminding Hak of when his ex first started texting him while the two of you were together at your place.
he grins, poking your cheek.
"i can sing and marry you, y/n. all for free!"
you smile back at him and rest your head on his chest.

Warnings: May contain inaccurate depictions of cars (lol), mention of car accidents
Mountain Pass 1 — 1:10 AM Monday
The mountains were barren of any signs of civilization save for the occasional lamppost that illuminated down its winding roads. Up here, the only company the mountain found itself with were the whispers of a gentle breeze and the offload of dying leaves shed by the evergreen trees.
In a far distance, the sound of a brazen car disturbed the serenity of the atmosphere. Its modular body slid through a curved road, leaving a nasty skid mark and a ghastly amount of smoke that could haunt a climate change activist in his wake.
The fragrant scent of Autumn pass was then overtaken by the strong smell of hot, burning rubber.
“Nice,” A staticky voice spoke from inside your ear.
Above you, a drone was flying closely behind, tracking and streaming your vehicle’s position for the people down the road.
“You’re acting like this is my first time, Hak.”
You heard a chuckle.
A small group of cars preceded your position, driving in the same haphazard manner as you did. A gallant dance through mountainous roads fueled by the adrenaline of a perfect drift.
This specific pass was a favorite amongst locals and tourists. The area surrounding the pass itself has been closed off to the general public, having been built specifically for the purpose of tōge drifting by a retired hobbyist.
Down the winding roads, a graveled patch of land became the communal area for both drivers and passing car enthusiasts. During these grassroots events, local body shops would set up tents alongside their vehicles to advertise their products and services. What’s a better way to sell than to show how your products perform after all?
Small groups of people would also flock into the scene to build connections with other hobbyists.
You used to be one of those people, and now having conquered the winding roads of this mountain pass numerous times yourself, you’ve managed to garner quite the amount of respect on your own name.
“Heads up, the last two courses are a tight turn. A civic just crashed.”
You watched as the drone flew ways ahead of you, assumingly to check out the accident. A moment later, you heard the static voice of Haknyeon again.
“Driver is fine, car is totaled though. Just slow down your speed and keep to your left.”
 “Got it. Thanks, Hak.”
“No worries. Just get down here safely.”
You loosened your press on the gas pedal before shifting gears to ease off speed. Outside, the air was bitingly cold. You wondered if Haknyeon was keeping himself warm.
Before you can think more into it, the sight of two pairs of waving hands caught your attention from the outskirts of the highway. They signaled you to veer away from the crash and you responded by hoisting your arm out of the window and pumping it in acknowledgment.
Hak was right. The car was completely totaled, but you’re glad to see the driver was doing fine. It’s scary to think that, that could be you under any unfortunate circumstance. A huge risk that always comes with devilishly dancing through the mountain roads.
You watched briefly as the owner wrestled his damaged fender off his vehicle before laying it against a tree trunk. Once you passed him, you picked up speed again and prepared yourself to approach the last turn.
Down in the flatlands, Haknyeon stood waiting from underneath a tent. A Nissan GT-R Nismo was parked in front of him with its high beams shining down the gravel road. Down under, a set of neon orange lowlights covered the ground. Tangerine—he affectionately called it. The payoff from his hard work, and numerous wins from racing the streets.
“She’s on her last turn.” His friend spoke, tracking your position from the drone he was controlling from a screen.
“Good.”
Haknyeon walked towards the road. A couple of people greeted him with a wave.
Haknyeon was a well-loved mechanic by both car hobbyists and local civilians alike. He was good with his hands, and even better at his builds. So although he didn’t dabble in tōge drifting himself, he still managed to capture the trust of its drivers.
The sound of a revving engine and the familiar scent of burning black rubber took the mechanic’s attention away to the mountain pass exit. A sleek silver Nissan quickly pulled up gaining the attention of the photographers and videographers on standby.
They ran following the car, pumping their fists up in the air, and were met with the driver revving in response. Shutter speeds can be heard all the way to where Haknyeon was standing, and he made way as the car finally pulled up to the empty lot beside him.
You unbuckle your belt the moment you parked your car, making a move to remove your safety helmet. Haknyeon quickly opened the door and greeted you by messing your hair up.
“How was it?”
You playfully swat his hand away. “Fun, as always.”
You finally turned and greeted him with a smile. He returned it, making amends with his earlier actions by tucking stray pieces of hair away from your face. Why was it suddenly becoming warm?
The moment was disrupted by the sound of a pickup hauling the totaled car from earlier. Haknyeon grimaced at the sight of the damage.
“Ouch. That’s gonna cost a lot.”
“Small price to pay to keep an expensive hobby.”
You walked towards the tent, greeting your other friend with a wave. He nodded back in response.
“Expensive hobby, cars are, huh?”
“Very, which is why you should never get into it.”
“Kind of too late for that now though, isn’t it,” Haknyeon pointed towards his car, “considering I just finished modding my car.”
You burst into a fit of giggles with Haknyeon. You find it funny how the both of you always discouraged the other from getting into the underground racing scene despite the fact that you’ve both been a part of it even before you met.
Haknyeon reached into his jacket pocket before walking in front of you. You see the glint of your mismatched beaded friendship bracelet illuminated by the faint light of his orange car.
“Here,” he grabbed your right hand gently, “I kept it till you got back.”
Haknyeon wore the friendship bracelet around your wrist, mirroring the one on his left arm. His fingers were gentle in placing them on you, making a move to turn it to display two little charms that were similar to his own. There was a moment’s pause before he finally decided to put your hand back down.
The Autumn air was still bitingly cold, so why was it that you felt the tips of your ears getting hot?
You cleared your throat, thanking him. His own cheeks were twinged with the lightest shade of pink.
“Isn’t it kinda insane that we’ve managed to keep this tradition for three whole years now?”
He laughed. “Yeah, I don’t even remember how it started.”
Haknyeon pulled out a monoblock chair and offered it to you before sitting down on the one beside it.
“I do. You kept insisting that the bracelet caught onto your gear stick, so you had to take it off before a race.”
“Hey, it really did! And I wasn’t being insistent.”
“Yeah, you were,” you laughed, “it's the whole reason why we have this silly little tradition in the first place.”
Cars were starting to disperse from the area. There was a dwindling down of noise from conversations of a thinning crowd, with hush whispers slowly being swept away into the sleeping mountain. Your mutual friend had also left the tent a couple of minutes ago to fetch his drone from the lot.
Haknyeon thought back to when this small tradition of yours started. Three years ago, after a slow day at the tracks he called his home, you guys decided to craft these little charm bracelets from a mutual friend’s stash. You made Haknyeon a colorful strand decorated with the charms of a mango and a mountain, a little reminder of you when you’re not around.
For you, he picked out a wrench and an orange, accompanied by a mismatched color palette of warm-toned beads. It was charming - albeit a little silly, but the both of you have worn them since then.
Haknyeon will admit that he may have been slightly insistent that the bracelet distracted him while driving. At first, it was true, the little charms kept getting caught in between his hand and his gear stick, but it slowly morphed into a superstitious tradition that he just had to have you keep it for him as an unspoken promise of his safe return. You did the same with yours.
“It’s a tad bit silly but I like doing it,” he said, “Makes me hold on to a promise that I’ll return back to you safely.”
You hummed. There was something inherently intimate about this conversation.
“Then let’s keep doing it. To promise each other that despite the dangers of our hobby, we’ll always return to each other’s side safely,” You paused, “For the bracelets, of course.”
Haknyeon nodded, fiddling with the charm of his own bracelet.
“As long as you promise that you’ll always be there when I return.”
“I promise.”

"Do you want to build a snowman?" ~ Ju Haknyeon
Tumblr media
It was a snowy day and you were very happy. You loved the snow and watching it fall slowly. It was something you loved from a young age. You were curled up with a blanket, a mug of hot chocolate and a random movie playing as you watched the snow fall gently. It was calming and quiet, until your phone rang. You glanced at the caller ID and saw it was your best friend, basically brother, Haknyeon. You smiled and accepted the call.
"Do you want to build a snowman~" He sang down the phone, making you giggle.
"Yes!" You exclaimed.
"Yay! Want to come over to the dorms? I can come pick you up." He suggested.
"Sure! Sounds good!" You replied happily.
"Cool, see you in ten." He said before hanging up the call.
You smiled and threw the blanket off your body and quickly got changed into some warm and comfy clothes. You slipped on a sweatshirt (that belongs to Hak), some black leggings and a pair of boots. You also put on a thick coat, scarf and gloves, just before you heard honking outside.
You left your home and saw Haknyeon pulled up outside in his car. You went over quickly slipping into the passenger seat of the warm vehicle.
"Let's build a snowman!" He exclaimed.
You smiled as he drove towards the dorms, as it was only ten minutes, you soon arrived and went to the back to see some of the others messing around in the snow. They all greeted you cheerfully before you and Haknyeon started on your snowman.
As you both talked and rolled the snow up to build a large snowman, the other members gathered inside to watch you both through the kitchen window.
"They look so happy." Juyeon mentioned.
"Of course, Hak's got his girly friend." Changmin teased.
"When will he tell her that he likes her?" Jacob questioned.
"Never, he's too worried about breaking the friendship." Kevin answered.
"But she likes him too, so what's the harm?" Sunwoo called.
"He doesn't know she likes him and she doesn't know he likes her, basic drama love story." Eric said.
They just laughed and watched you both. Haknyeon had made the body for the snowman, as you had finished the head. Both of you rolled it over and placed it on top, happy with the figure and just needed to add some stones and twigs for characteristics.
After another ten minutes, your snowman was finished. You both smiled happily at the large figure that sat proudly in the middle of the garden.
"It looks good." You said, as Haknyeon nodded in agreement.
It then started to lightly snow again, flakes hit your nose gently, the cold chill was bitter sweet. You looked up at Haknyeon, who was standing right next to you, smiling down at you.
"What?" You called.
"Your....just really pretty." He mumbled, your cheeks heating up at the complement.
"Your not too bad yourself." Your replied with a giggle, the male smiling at your words.
"Can....Can I kiss you?" He asked quielty.
You felt your heart jumping and nodded quickly. Haknyeon smiled and pulled you in gently, his lips on yours. The kiss was gentle, soft and sweet. It made you all warm and fuzzy inside, perfect on such a cold day.
The other guys watched, cheering quietly, happy for you both to have finally gone for it.
When you pulled away, your cheeks were a rosy red colour and so were Hak's. You both giggled and looked down, your hands intertwined together.
"Want to go inside and get a warm drink?" He asked.
"Yeah." You answered with a nod.
You both headed inside, to the kitchen, the others all looking occupied as if they hadn't just watched you both share your first kiss together. Not until Hyunjae spoke.
"So...you both dating now?" He asked.
"Dude!" Younghoon exclaimed.
"Oh, wasn't I supposed to say something?" He replied, making you all laugh.
You smiled and would have never thought that building a snowman would lead to you kissing your best friend and long time crush, but you were very happy about it.

Valorous ~ *Ju Haknyeon*

Summary: Haknyeon really does not want to follow tradition and go through an arranged marriage. However, at the harvest festival, he finds himself falling for a mysterious archery. Perhaps marriage isn't all that bad...

It’s not that Haknyeon didn’t trust or love his parents. He really did care for his family a lot and would die for them, if it ever came to that. But when it came to his parents deciding the love of his life, he was skeptical of any potential ulterior motives. Even if they did have the kingdom’s best interest in mind, since they were the King and Queen, he didn’t feel it was necessary for them to get involved.
To his parents, everything had to be the traditional way. From what he was taught to what he wore, everything followed the strict rules set up generations ago. He tried to see it from his parent’s perspective, believing that it was just their way of honoring the past. But arranged marriages just seemed absolutely ridiculous to him. Just because it worked for his older sister, didn’t mean it worked for everyone, himself included. If he were to marry, he wanted it to be for love, not because some dead relatives said he had to.
But, of course, his parents had other plans. On the night before the big harvest festival, his parents announced that all of the eligible ladies in the surrounding kingdoms were going to attend the betrothal ceremony that was to take place on the first day of the festival. Haknyeon didn’t say anything, but he did formulate a plan that night to put a stop to this. He couldn’t live with himself if he were forced to marry some snobby princess he didn’t even know or care about. He just had to foil his parents plans if he wanted to live the rest of his life in peace.
The next day, the whole kingdom was in a frenzy. Everyone was celebrating as news had gotten out that the crown prince was going to find a wife today. The only person who wasn’t excited about the event would be the crown prince himself. Haknyeon was pacing his room, trying not to work himself up too much about the whole affair. If everything goes according to his plan, he was sure to deter his parents away from ever forcing him to marry someone he didn’t know again.
With a calming sigh, he left his room to join the festivities before his parents began to worry. As soon as he was announced, a flock of women he had never seen or spoke to before were upon him, trying to gain his favor or at least his attention before the announcement of his betrothal. He tried to be polite but aloof, doing everything in his power to avoid them. He wasn’t doing too bad when his sister caught him behind the stands.
“Why are you hiding?” She asked, looking at him like he was crazy. “Mother and father have been looking everywhere for you. You need to be with them when the events begin!”
Every harvest festival, a multitude of sporting events are put on by the people as entertainment for royals and citizens alike. Usually it consisted of wrestling, running, discus, and javelin. Occasionally there would be jousting or archery, but those weren’t the main events. It was customary for the royal family to present the winners with a prize and Haknyeon had to be there for that. Especially since he was expected to be king one day.
With a groan, he stood and dusted himself off before following his older sister to the royal dais where they would be watching the events. While she chatted on and on about a change in the lineup of events, he kept his eyes peeled for more women vying for a shot at the crown prince. As soon as his parents came into view, he ducked his head so he didn’t have to see their disapproving looks. He really shouldn’t have been hiding from them or his responsibilities, but being swarmed by gold diggers and prissy brats was not good for one’s self-esteem, mood, or even impulse control.
Four of the five events ended without a hitch, though they were still as boring as ever. It’s not that he didn’t like watching them, it’s just it was the same thing every year, with little to no variety. His parents and sisters presented their prizes respectively when each event was completed. Knowing that he was in charge of bestowing the gift to the last winner, Haknyeon actually had to pay attention to this one. Normally, it would have been the javelin throw, but apparently what his sister was yammering about earlier was that an archery tournament had been added to this year’s events. Not only that, but since a lot of women knew that he was going to be delivering the prize, they had also entered the event.
It was hard to stay interested, as most of the contestants had never shot an arrow before in their life. But there was one, the furthest away from the royal dais and shrouded in a dark cloak, who captured his attention. They had hit every single bullseye dead on with such accuracy and precision, it was impossible not to notice. Even Haknyeon’s sisters could see how their brother seemed intrigued by the mysterious archer.
Leaning over, his younger sister whispered, “They’re shooting for the Kingdom up North in the mountains, the Kingair Clan.”
He nodded, his curiosity piqued even more. The Kingair Clan was a mysterious group of people who only showed themselves during events like this, if they even bothered in the first place. Haknyeon had visited there once when he was a young child and had become good friends with the princess of the Clan. Even after they left, they wrote to each other as often as they could. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t smitten with her. Nevertheless, he tried to keep his feelings out of his letters, knowing that he may very well never see her again. His family and her family weren’t the best of friends and his parents never saw any reason to invite them to other events besides the harvest festival anyways. A part of him believed that this peculiar archer was simply competing for the princess, but another, smaller part thought otherwise. Either way, he secretly hoped the mysterious archer would win so he could at last see who was behind the cloak. What can he say? He loves a good mystery.
Eventually, the competition was over and the winner was declared without any deliberation. Every single target had their arrow smack dab in the middle of it, decreeing the mysterious stranger from the North the winner. They were escorted to the royal dais where Haknyeon was standing, ready to give them their prize. His mother handed him an envelope, saying that the paper inside is their prize. Trying to hide his confusion, as no other victor was given something as trivial as an envelope, he turned to face them only to have his jaw drop.
The hood of their cloak was down, revealing the princess he had become friends with oh so long ago. She still had the same sparkling eyes and dazzling smile from his memories. When she gave a small, polite courtesy, he remembered he had a prize to give her.
“Oh, um, as the Crown Prince, I commend you. Because of your superior skills as an archer, I bestow upon you this envelope as your prize. On behalf of the royal family, I offer you our most sincere congratulations.” He nodded, handing her the envelope.
She nodded. “Thank you, your Highness. It was a pleasure to be a part of this fantastic archery tournament.”
He smiled, feeling his heart stutter in his chest. If he wasn’t mistaken, this was one of the symptoms of love, but then again, it could be something else. Either way, he sincerely hoped it was the former and not the latter.
Delicately, she opened the letter, gasping at the words. As she looked into his eyes, he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. Just what exactly had she won? He was about to ask, when his parents stood up with bright smiles on their faces.
“Attention, ladies and gentlemen!” His father bellowed. “As you all know, there was a proclamation sent out earlier today that we would be announcing our son’s betrothal.”
Haknyeon stifled a groan. Did they have to announce his inevitable betrothal now, of all times? He had just reconnected with an old friend and possibly crush, and they choose now of all times to throw his whole future away? He had to do something and fast. Anything to save his life from what was about to happen.
Just as he was about to protest, his mother spoke up. “Ladies and gentlemen! Our son has been betrothed to the winner of the archery contest, the Princess Y/n of the Kingair Clan.”
He gasped, whirling around to see the princess, showing him her letter. There, in his mother’s beautiful calligraphy, was the statement that they were in fact betrothed. Again, his heart beat erratically. How? Why? When? What? Just how did his parents pull this off without telling him? But seeing the pure shock and flash of joy in her eyes, his mind was put at ease.
Perhaps this betrothal thing wouldn’t be so bad afterall.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Y/n,
You probably don’t remember me, huh?
That’s a weird way to start a letter.
Why am I weird about this? It’s not like you’d ever read it…
Sorry, I’m not a letter guy. But I just had to talk to you and if it is in the form of unread ink then let it be. I just…
I never thought I’d see you again.
Really. You were an angel that appeared to me that winter day, purer than the snow around me, even when that dirty maroon blood was tainting it: you wiped the blood off my lips with the back of your hand, and when it stained your skin, I pulled away you said:
It’ll be okay.
That’s what you said.
Today you were with your friends when I saw you. We’re in the same year. Of course we’re in the same year. It’s not news to me. It’s just…
You joined the photography club. I realized it when you were behind me, signing up for the same thing. You wrote your name under mine, and for a minute I just gawked, before I told myself to keep walking. I don’t want you to hate me.
My father’s been telling me I need to socialize like a real college student, that if I keep acting like a loser that’s all I’ll ever be. He says I should stop acting so haunted by the past, because nothing can hurt me now, but I always feel like I’m still in that snow. Not that I’m doing this for him. I’m not even doing it to see you—I know you would never like me, of course I do. I’m just… Photography sounds fun. It’s something I used to enjoy, before I became The Monster That Fails to Enjoy Anything.
Legitimate title. My sister made it up on our family vacation.
I’m still recoiling from the whiplash of having you stand there, right in front of me, or well, behind me once I turned around, anyway.
I must have turned around with my head down for a long time, because when I looked up you were walking with your friend, ahead of me.
Already people were whispering things about you, things I knew and didn’t know, like: you’ve spent a good chunk of your life overseas (knew that), your brother Younghoon is a model (knew that), your family’s famous (which I knew, more or less).
The Photography club wanted to initiate us this very night, and just before I got into the hall they rented for this, I kind of wanted to back out. Just walk backwards, say sorry, no one would miss me anyway. I wanted to see you, y/n, but also… I didn’t…
I was just scared. You’d think I’d get over all these fears after everything that happened, but really I just became more and more of a clockwork robot broken by anxiety.
One of the initial seniors from the photography club convinced me to go.
“N-no,” I said, “I’m okay.” These days my voice doesn’t reach as loud, but I hoped it was loud enough to hear—only, of course, he doesn’t care what I want.
“Come on!” His name was Jaehyun. “It’s more fun the more people we have, you’ll have fun.” I guess I got the better end of it, because the female members he recruited and persuaded into attending the club night by several winks and… this weird flirty thing he does with his eyes that makes them fall all over him.
But he knew I was nervous, so he walked me into the club, and was also the one to offer me a seat next to him, in the front row in front of the stage.
I didn’t get to look back into the crowd to see if you were there, so I tried to concentrate on the group activities, which is something I should do if I’m trying to be normal, and there was:
President Choi Chanhee, who was actually a photography major already signed to some art gallery that wants to show his photos
Ahn Sohyun, the vice-president of the club, an impressive feat since she was only a year above us.
And the new freshmen introduced themselves one by one: me, Donghyuck, Kevin Moon, a girl named Rachel, Changmin… you.
You mumbled your name like you were embarrassed to be here but I heard it nonetheless, and when you were speaking I finally got a chance to look at you—not to be creepy, but… to make sure it was you.
I mean, of course it is. You look like you, and your name… I guess I was just never sure if you existed for real, like you’re someone I only see on TV, so whenever you’re in the same room with me, it’s just…
The freshmen started to dance and have snacks after that, classic initiation night, I guess. It’s the end of summer but still feels like the middle of it, and the night was hot and everyone’s already discarded their jackets in a pile.
I’m the only one still standing with my hoodie zipped all the way up.
At first I tried to look for you, but I quickly gave up. I don’t even know what I’d say to you. It would be weird if I just kept sitting when everyone was either drinking or eating or dancing, so I tried to walk around, keeping my eyes on the ground—it’s a habit I learned a long time ago, a habit I can’t unlearn because eye contact scares me—and then I spot you, you’re talking to Choi Chanhee, about his photos and his major. I don’t even know what your major is.
The party transformed completely into a dance thing, and everyone was now crowding around the stage, where they encouraged freshmen to get up and dance, one by one. You were spared the treatment, because everyone was rather afraid of you, or were in awe—either way, you didn’t need to subject yourself to embarrassment like that.
Someone pushed me into the stage lights, I guess it was my turn–and I just froze there, on stage, and everyone’s looking. I search for you but I can’t see through the blinding lights.
“Haknyeon’s cute,” someone says.
“Haknyeon-ah! Do you have abs?”
“Show us!”
I tried to get off the stage, but just like 5 years ago I’m pushed back, there’s no way to escape, and I’m back under the lights again, and everyone’s laughing—not at me, I know that, but there’s no way to control the rapid beating of my heart.
“You’re sweating.” Rachel reached over and pulled the zipper of my hoodie down, and then quickly, with action that shows she works the coat room at restaurants, slid the hoodie off my sleeves.
I should have worn a long sleeved shirt. But I like the one I had on then, you know? I like the color of it…
At home I just walk around with short sleeves, sometimes less—my scars don’t scare me, and I’ve been living with them for, like, 4 years? 5? It’s just a part of me now. All the itching and extra skin and discoloration, it’s a part of me now.
I guess when people see it it makes them want to touch and observe me like a lab rat.
But everybody in the room did that side-eyed glance at my scars, the kind where they’re apologetic about the curiosity, but they still stare—
And that’s when I realized all the attention was on me. Even you—you were watching me, too, except you didn’t have that friendly, initiation-night smile like everybody. You had a blank stare, dark eyes like doll’s eyes, so tough but stunning. And you looked like you were bored of me, which, I have to admit, I’m bored of myself too.
But everybody else certainly wasn’t bored. They were intrigued, disgusted, whatever else—by the scars on my arms. I gingerly put my hoodie back on, while you just looked away.
So you don’t remember me?
Rachel was the one that handed me the hoodie back—it wouldn’t help me now, but it would palliate the staring—and when I looked back at you, you’re talking to Chanhee again, although he looked distracted.
The party went on all night, and I had half a mind to just stay for half of it, and after the scar thing no one talked to me, anyway. There was free beer, though, so I drank a little. It would be weird if I walked out after that scene—but also no one was talking to me.
I lounged around for a bit in the room, but suddenly someone takes me by the arm, and I’m walking unwillingly out the hall.
It’s Ji Changmin, who is nice enough. He grins at me. “We needed some fresh air,” he says, “here, I bought you your own cold one.” It was a beer.
It was club night all over campus, so there were people from every club walking around us, as we sat on a bench behind the garden statue, shrouded in the dark.
“It’s alright,” Changmin told me. “It’s not on you that everyone is a freak.”
I don’t like that word, as much as I use it on me. Plus, the fact that they stare makes me the freak, not them.
“If they stare, it’s because they’re mannerless bastards. Not because of anything you did.”
We just sipped from our cans in turn, sometimes talking about our lives, as we introduced ourselves to the other. Changmin initially wanted to join the dance club, but apparently he was ‘overqualified’ and Chanhee, the president, asked him to join his club, ‘on knifepoint’, he says, “he was literally pointing a pair of scissors at me when he asked me to join.”
As we sat in the dark, people would pass by, sometimes talking about me.
“Did you see the scars on him?” comes a voice, and Changmin saw me cowering in my seat, although we were covered by the statue and they couldn’t see that I was sitting right there. He nodded at me to be quiet, it would be over, anyway. “He must be sick—do you think someone did it to him?”
“Maybe he did it himself. Look at the look in his eyes—crazy son of a bitch.” I held my breath until those people had passed by.
Changmin sighed at me. Clinked our beer cans together. “Here’s to this semester—at least you’re being talked about.”
We both walked back to our dorms later that night, but with a group from the club. I’m finally included in a group, again… it feels good. But I know you went back in that blue racecar-looking… thing… that’s way too cool to be called a car, and I know you have an apartment somewhere close but also expensive. Tonight, like always, that day flashes by in my eyes, and like always, I wonder, why me? Why did you save me? Were you just bored? Righteous? I can’t think of more reasons.
I don’t know how to sign this letter so I’ll just write:
From,
Haknyeon
.
Dear Y/N,
I guess you’re looking out for me, even till now. You’re really a nice person. I can’t even stop telling you how nice of a person you are, if only I could get the words out… if only we could talk.
Changmin is still the only person that talks to me. It’s great that we’re in the same major together, and although you’re not, your name is the only thing on everybody’s lips. It’s quite a major feat.
“Y/N spent half her life in America.”
“Y/N’s brother, Younghoon, is an international model.”
“Y/n’s a bitch.”
This statement broke through the gossip that started before the lecture, and I almost turned around to see the source of it, because who’s saying that—but I fought the urge, I was going to lay low, anyway, plus I can’t act like I know you, because I don’t.
“What do you mean, she’s a bitch?” someone asks. Thank God, I’m not the only one with questions.
“Did you see the way she didn’t talk to anybody except for the club president, Chanhee? She’s only interested in connections.”
“Of course, she’s raised like that… rich people have no manners.”
“She told me to shut up this morning—like, real mean, glaring, ‘shut the fuck up’. And she stared down everybody at my table—that qualifies as bitchy, doesn’t it?”
“Jeez, what were you saying?”
“I was just saying—” the guy’s voice drops to a lower octave, but the lecture hall was dead silent that I could hear: “—was just saying Juhaknyeon’s weird, that everyone saw his arms last night, and it’s covered in scars, just discussing it, civilly.”
“And she told you to shut up?!” someone asks in shock.
“She threw a coke can at me. ‘Shut the fuck up’ real messed up, angry voice.”
Someone laughs. “Does Y/N L/N like that guy? Like, for real? Because why else would she—”
“Who knows? But they filmed him taking his jacket off, didn’t you know?” someone says. “Everyone in the uni knows he’s a freak—no matter what Y/N has to say about it.”
I guess I’m screwed. I guess we’re both screwed. But… is it okay that I feel a little happy about this? I always knew I would have a hard time fitting in, but the fact that you’re trying to defend me makes me happy. That I’m kind of in this with you—you, and Changmin.
I guess it kind of makes me a loser if I keep thinking of you as a friend. We haven’t even talked.
Anyway, thank you.
From,
Haknyeon
.
Dear Y/N,
I don’t get it. Why are you doing this to me?
The more I think about it, the more it looks like it’s just a long-winded joke. Your brother or someone set you up to this. It’s surprising that you’re here, but more surprising that you act like you know me.
We don’t know each other. I keep telling myself that.
Today is club day, and they’re going to a village somewhere in the rural parts, apparently there’s a waterfall there. Chanhee funded the trip, but needs more people to sign up. I almost didn't go, no one asked me specifically, and Changmin’s not going, either. I wanted to lay low.
I thought you were going, but soon Sohyun and Rachel cornered you and asked if you would. You looked annoyed. You always do, but…
“Ask Haknyeon,” you told Rachel. “If he goes I’ll go too.” And then you slammed your locker shut.
Of course that day only ended with Rachel, Yunjin, Sakura, all the other boys and girls with a crush on you, cornering me and asking me to go on the trip.
It’s funny, because they never even considered me as part of the club, and now they’re begging me, “Haknyeon it’ll be so fun. You’re one of us!” It’s… hilarious. If only I still had a heart to laugh…
But all this socialization in my life trained me into being unable to say no as an answer… so of course I’m going, and I told them that. Rachel excitedly walked off to tell you—I don’t know what your face looked like when she told you.
Why would you do this to me? Why would you mention me by name and force me into that? It’s strange, Y/N, do you still see me as that boy in the snow? That I’m weak, that you could destroy me?
You could destroy me, I know that. But why would you want to? I thought you were nice to me.
I guess I’m going… on that bus with the rest of the club on that long winded road. To a motel surrounded by farms. I still don’t understand why you mentioned me, except if it were some sick joke.
I guess I’ll see you on the bus.
From,
Juhaknyeon
.
Dear Y/n,
Fuck. Did we just fight? What is this?
I’m writing this on my notes app in the back of the bus while that guy Donghyuck’s beside me, eyes closed, trying to sleep. I don’t even feel like this is secure enough of a position to write to you, because what if the words mirror off the window and everyone can see?
But I’m hiding and writing.
Why am I such an idiot? There’s no one I want to meet more than myself, so I could beat him up. I’d skin him from the inside out if I could, that bastard.
So today started with the bus ride—I mean, literally started, I wasn’t even awake until the bus started moving—and I was completely resigned to my fate, this would be three whole days of torture, living with people, riding a bus through roads that could make the strongest stomachs carsick… hotel food… the list goes on.
You enter the bus with a frown and your bag, and sit in a single seat at the front. I gawked at you for a second, before I realized that other people could see me looking and draw conclusions.
So I sat in a four-seater, don’t know how I ended up there—with Donghyuck and Rachel and Sakura.
“Does y/n like you?” Donghyuck asked somewhere along the ride, just when we were starting to doze off.
I just shifted in my seat, not making eye contact. I think someone needs to teach me the art of eye contact again, because now people’s gazes scare me, especially kids my age. It’s like they’re searching for a way to bring me down, they could get up at the next move and just—I feel safer with my eyes closed or on the ground. “No,” I answered. Well, it had been more like, n-n-n-no.
“I mean it just doesn’t make sense. She doesn’t even smile to anyone, but with you—” Donghyuck sucked in a breath. The others with him just nodded along. “She even told Sohyun she’s not going on this trip if you don’t come, isn’t that weird?”
“Maybe she didn’t want Hak to be left out?” suggests Rachel. “Because of freak-rumors and such?”
“You must think she’s an angel or something,” says Sakura. “Y/N’s so nice to you, isn’t she? She made sure you got on this trip.”
Just as I feared: food from unrated restaurants in the middle of nowhere. The bus stops for relief, and we eat, if Changmin were here maybe I would be more comfortable but I’m just sitting with Donghyuck and the girls, we ordered bibimbap, which even the four of us couldn’t finish.
You sat away from everybody, in a solitary table eating nothing. You bought a coke bottle, though, and kept drinking. I stared at you for a bit, which made Donghyuck nudge Sakura. “They’re in love,” he told her. “It’s some secret relationship.”
Our secret relationship came to this.
I cornered you beside the bus stop where you were washing your hands; everybody was still eating. You glared at me when I came near, so I knew I wasn’t welcome, but I was kind of mad at you, too, so:
“Why are you doing this to me?” was my first question. I didn’t mean for it to come out like a demanding challenge.
“Doing ‘this’ to ‘you’?”
“Why did you tell them you’d only go if I came?” You looked even more annoyed than before, so I go on: “is this… a joke? Did someone put you up to this? Are you trying to hurt—”
“Idiot,” you sneered under your breath. “Fucking idi—I didn’t want to come, as you can see, I didn’t think you would! I just said that so we could both stay home, but who fucked it up, Haknyeon, who?” You kicked at the wall in front of you angrily, and I stepped back a little, trying to give an angry person space. You just rolled your eyes, and then walked past me, colliding first into my shoulder deliberately.
When we all get back on the bus, you’re in your single-seat, sunglasses on, with a frown on your face. Someone asked you “who shit in your coffee?” and you snarled through gritted teeth, “shut the fuck up.”
Now I’m here sitting beside Donghyuck. Did we fight? Do we even know each other well enough to fight?
I just don’t get it. I hate myself for fighting with you, I should have kept my mouth shut. I don’t know why I started it in the first place—it’s not like I’ll ever get real answers, anyway. I should have shut up, now I feel like I’ve lost your trust, and whatever you felt when you were protecting me, you wouldn’t do it again.
I really hate myself right now.
Dear Y/N,
You’re sleeping 4 feet away from me right now, which is, well, cool, but I’m gonna stay awake all night to make sure you’re safe. The latch to the door is broken for some reason, adding to my vigilance. Plus everyone in the club is horribly drunk, so I…
I’m gonna stay awake. Gives me more time to write this letter, anyway.
Just to recap because I feel like we might forget how we ended up here:
The bus ride was horrible. It’s more horrible that we’re gonna have to ride it all over again when we get back to the city later, it gave everyone motion sickness. No one’s prepared for the ride home.
But we saw the waterfalls! Well, the rest of us did, anyway. You stayed on the bus playing games on your phone. I snooped around and gawked a little–it’s one of those dashing games. I guess even that monotony is better than hanging out with the rest of us, huh.
Chanhee loves the waterfalls (read: took 19,686 pictures). Everyone did, actually. You can’t see anything from the bus, but inside there’s a stream and it’s really pretty. Everyone swam. Except me, I guess, you can probably guess why I didn’t.
And then we drove to the motel, where we were planning to get drunk for the whole night. I thought it’d make everything weird if I went, so I didn’t go. I just sat in the motel room, charging my phone. Thinking of writing you another letter, but I don’t even know what I’d say.
The guys went out to drink around 9. At 10, there’s a knock on the door—the latch is broken, so it just slides to the side.
Your head poked in. “Oh, you.”
I gawked at you wordlessly, pathetically actually. But you didn’t hate me so much. “Can I stay here for a bit? It’s scary in my room.”
I nodded, and you came in, immediately lying down on the mattress they laid down for us. “Aren’t you gonna get some shut-eye, too?” you asked me.
I just shook my head. We stayed there in silence for so long. I wanted to ask why you didn’t go to drink, but I couldn’t get it out, couldn’t get myself to speak to you. You let me do my thing, which was staring at my phone like it’s the most interesting thing in the world, when really all I wanted to do was stare at your face. Ask you questions. All about you, all about that day in the snow.
You spoke first, though. I never speak. “I’m sorry about earlier today.”
I wasn’t expecting an apology at all, so I’m surprised. “Huh?” finally, some sound from me.
“I was just… I didn’t eat anything, so I guess I was hangry. It’s fucked up. I shouldn’t have yelled at you.”
I shrugged. “Used to it.”
“You shouldn’t have to be used to people treating you like that.”
You looked at me in a special, peculiar way. Not hating but also not enjoying my company. You saw me scratching the tag on my back, it’s hot and I’m covered in sweat. And I’m still wearing a jacket over my shirt. “Take it off,” you say, “the motel heating is fucking off its rocks, it’s like 30 degrees in here.”
I just shook my head and mumbled it’s not hot at all, but…
You crawled over to me and swiped the sweat off my forehead. “It’s just the two of us here, Haknyeon.”
I gripped at my sleeves. “No…”
You gave up easily, thank God. You sat back on the mattress. “Fine, I guess. I’m sleepy.”
“Do you remember me?” I ask out of the blue, and it should have been quiet, I didn’t even mean it for you to hear, I was just wondering it to myself, it’s become a habit of speaking my thoughts out loud because usually no one’s around to hear…
“Do you know me?” you asked in return, louder than me this time.
I looked away. “No.” Which was true, I didn’t know you other than that day and chance sightings, and I’m not delusional enough to force a connection.
“I’m sleeping,” you say. “I trust you, so I’ll just sleep here. Is that okay?”
I said yeah, and then you’re curled up with a pillow. I dug up a fan from the closet and plugged it in facing you so you’d be a little cool. I’m still keeping my jacket on, though. It just gets weird if anyone sees it, even you, who knows how I got them.
Thank you for trusting me.
From,
Haknyeon
[continued on back page]
Okay, I just… I’m having flashbacks again, as bad as it is. You’re still asleep. I’m writing this in the small flashlight, in case turning the big lights on would wake you up. There’s been a few club people coming back to sleep, but I won’t let them in my room—not unless it’s a girl that I can trust around you anyway, but neither Rachel nor Sohyun are back.
5 years ago was the worst year of my life. I guess it was always like that since I was a kid, people didn’t seem to take my side in fights, or I was always under the upperhand… but it didn’t get as bad as freshman year of high school.
On the day you talked to me, it was snowing.
Winter may be the cruelest month to do these things in. One time I stood wearing a mere short-sleeved school shirt in ankle-high snow, with the boys all standing around me—my puffer jacket was clogging the toilet in a stall on the second floor—and they were saying “it’s not that cold,” all the while wearing 4 layers, the pure irony. And the snow fell all around us.
On the day you talked to me, they weren’t around. I was bleeding from my head, I swear the blood was frozen and congealed with my eyelashes, everything was just cold and painful, and I was wearing one jacket. Hands in my pockets. They’d intimidated me into kneeling in the snow, and demanded that I kneeled there until they came back. It was almost past lunch, and they would either actually come back to torment me more or just go back to their classes, mindless of me.
I tried to report them, a few times. I tried to get my parents to help me. It was always the same thing—even the bullies themselves wouldn’t come to the office with me, it would be the students’ representative, which happened to be your brother, Younghoon–he’d apologize, and do nothing. He just kept saying “we’re all friends. We just need to respect each other.” to me, as if I was the one needing to respect people.
You walked up to me, that day in the snow. It was lunch time, and everyone was eating inside, I know students stared but they never got closer. But you did.
“Get up,” was what you said. Just like now, today, you’re impossible to read. I thought you were angry at me—I’ve seen you before, I know you’re Younghoon’s sister, I know nobody could help me, so…
“Get up, let’s go to the hospital.”
I didn’t move. If anything, I kneeled firmer than before, sinking into the snow, head facing the ground. I’m meant to be sorry, although I don’t know for what.
“Get up!” you yelled at me. “If you won’t get up, you’re gonna get sicker.”
You kneeled down with me, and I opened my mouth, I said, “don’t,” the sound got away from us with the wind and you didn't hear it.
You wiped the blood off my brows. “It’ll be okay.” It was staining your hands, and then it fell onto the snow, maroon against pure white. I was the one dirtying it.
That’s when I looked up at you, finally, although I wasn’t supposed to. “Kneel with your head bowed” had been the order. But when I looked…
You looked angry. “Get up,” you said again, this time with your arm hooking with mine to pull me up. And yet, I planted myself on the ground, afraid they would hurt us both if you got me.
“Juhaknyeon, please.” You knew my name. That was the most surprising part of it. “Get up, come on.”
Tears and blood congealed and froze around my temples, I don’t know what I’m doing. Crying icicle tears and still planting my knees on the ground. I can’t get up, I can’t.
You gave up eventually, and I didn’t watch it happen—I kept my eyes on the ground. Praying for something. But when you came all my prayers were answered, and after that… they never bothered me again.
I don’t know what you did, but I know you did something. It was you. You did more than Younghoon ever could, you saved me.
I’m always going to see you as an angel, that day in the snow. I’m sorry my blood stained you, it was dirty. I’m trying to never bleed that way again. Thank you for then. I think you might be the sole reason I’m alive. Now I have to protect you, which is why I’m here staying up. In the moonlight, the outline of your nose is really pretty.
That’s creepy to say. I just wanted to compliment you, sorry.
Note to self: just so I remember to tell you: Rachel eventually came back to the bedrooms and I let her sleep in the same room with you, warning her that the latch to the door is broken. Writing this in my own room with Kevin and Chanhee. It smells like soju here it’s unbearable. I hope you’re sleeping well, though, good night.
Dear Y/N,
Are we friends now? It feels like I need a bigger audacity to assume that. An audacity I don’t have.
I guess if the things that happened to me didn’t happen, I would be a happy person. Someone who easily makes friends, someone kind… As much as I wish I were that person, I also don’t want someone else to go through what I did. I guess I just think that I can take the worst of it. Anyway, today it really feels like the worst of it is over. Changmin texted me ‘hey loser, how was the trip’ and I wrote back. I finally have a friend… or friends, since the whole club is so nice to me.
I don’t know why, but they’re a little iffy about you. I find it weird they think badly about you, but when I try to defend you it just makes things worse. I would tell people that you helped me out back in high school, but… I don’t know if you’d like to let people know we’ve known each other that long.
Man, you can sleep. You sat on the bus with your head resting on the window, and just went to sleep. It’s not even like you’re part of the hangover crowd, which everybody is, because just look at Chanhee. I’ve never seen eyes that tired.
You pulled me in to sit with you, though, and like everything you do, I don’t understand it. I just sit quietly. Writing to Changmin on the phone, which I have all sounds off and set on vibrate mode, so it doesn’t disturb you. Everyone’s quiet, and the bus curtains are drawn.
Some time along the ride, your sleeping figure started to lean on me. You were asleep, I’m sure, and that moment was when I let myself dream…
In the universe where I was never hurt, I have an audacity big enough to believe I should be the one kissing your lips. I ask you out. You fall asleep on me, just like this. You put your hand in mine. You feel my forehead by pressing yours against it when I get sick. When I lean into you, you won’t pull away—because I’m not a loser with scars. Because I’m not me. And that’s the only way you’d ever like me.
I thought no one saw us, that we were shrouded on the dark bus… but I guess everyone saw. When we’re on campus again, Donghyuck and the others teased me about it, some of them clasping my arm in a side-hug.
“Juhaknyeon, what the hell did you do that the ice princess is all over you?”
I don’t know, either. I just don’t know why you would keep helping me all this time.
Dear Y/N,
Okay, I feel like I need to apologize for my earlier wishful behavior that you were mine, because today you came to the club meeting with your boyfriend.
Of course you have a boyfriend. I shouldn’t be surprised. I guess it’s a good pairing, too, because Youngjae is bright, happy, so funny, and his family is just as affluent as yours. I guess he’s the exact type you should ever go for.
But anyway Youngjae arrived at our club meeting today all flashy, and Chanhee was over the moon because apparently they know each other. Youngjae’s parents own a gallery and everything, and they talked for a bit. You looked so happy and bright, bragging about your boyfriend. “This is Eric! He and I got close when I was studying in L.A.”
And Eric mingled with the club, everyone likes him. Some people thought we were a budding love triangle, though, if only they knew how we were really connected. They’d just feel bad for me, hoping on someone just because they saved my life once.
“Ayy,” someone went, whistling over the club sounds, “what about Juhaknyeon… he’s gonna be heart broken his princess has someone like Eric.”
“Are you jealous, Hak?”
I just shook my head.
But later when we’re partnering up for the club projects, you jumped over to my desk and said you wanted me as a partner. I guess you really do think of me as a friend—which I’m happy about! If nothing else at least we’re friends.
So now we’re partners in this project. Chanhee gifted me a camera to use for the club—he has many, he says. I would be bragging about it to you, but Eric’s around, and… I didn’t want to complicate things for you.
Eric tried to talk to me, though, which I found weird. He asked me about my major, how life is, and all that. Do you talk to him about me? I guess it’s only natural… But at the end of it, he told me, “I think you’re a good guy, Hak.” I guess that means he trusts me around you?
I kind of feel bad for wishing you were mine, because I don’t know, it just feels wrong now, and I’m sorry. Anyway, in other news, Sohyun asked me out today. She wanted to know straight up if we ‘wanted to try’ to date, and I said yes, I mean… just for the experience? Plus she’s always nice. I want to thank you for always being kind to me, though, because without you I wouldn’t have the confidence to go out with her.
I’ll try to actually talk to you sometime.
Dear Y/N,
Eric was kind of aggressive towards me when I saw him at the end of all my classes, in the parking lot. I don’t even know why, because I just found out you two aren’t dating, so… why was he so mean, out of nowhere?
I guess I want to ask you but I don’t want to make you mad, either.
You looked actually happy when I met you for the project today. The whole catch is that we don’t have to do anything, really, for the club, our photos probably won’t even be selected for Chanhee’s project. But I tell you this and you said:
“No way! You like taking photos, so we’re gonna take your work to the gallery!”
You weren’t frowning or cursing when you said that, and you seem… not mad. Maybe I am a good influence around you, haha.
I should ask about you and Youngjae, I thought, so I did, “so you must be really glad Eric flew all the way here from L.A.? What are you guys doing?”
The same expression on your face that resembled gray clouds. “We’re just hanging out.”
Okay…
“So how long have you been dating?”
You gasped. “Wait you thought—”
I’m embarrassed for embarrassing you. “You’re not—?!”
“Eric’s a friend.” You frowned, looking down at the ground. You didn’t meet my eyes for a long time. “You thought we were dating? And you were happy about it?”
I don’t understand why you’d be upset that I’m happy for you… I didn’t say that, though. I just shrugged. “Sorry, it’s just—you two looked really close, and when you introduced him—”
“And you were happy I’m taken?” you shrugged my hand off you, and I didn’t put it on your shoulder a second time. “Anyway. We’ll take pictures good enough to get into Chanhee’s collection, alright?”
“I think we should make you the subject,” I told you. “You’re the prettiest thing anyone can photograph…” I trailed off. I wished I hadn’t said that, and anyway you barely heard me.
But you did hear me, though. You barked out a horrible laugh. “I guess now that you know I’m single, you can flirt all you want, huh?”
I tried to defend myself: “I wasn’t flirting, I was just saying you’re—”
You didn’t listen to me, you were playing with your camera.
You were in a good mood, up until lunch time. I sat with the photography club, and you mindlessly followed me there with your tray. The usual gossip ensued, but I wasn’t paying attention to it, I was just looking over at you. If you were eating well.
Sakura mentions my name and I suddenly get sucked back to reality. “So, Haknyeon and Sohyun are a thing now, right?”
“Holding hands~” Donghyuck teases, “there’s a photo of you two in the campus couples’ instagram.”
“Congratulations, you two…”
I looked away, unable to take the attention, and across from me Sohyun smiled. “Thanks, you guys…”
“Haknyeon and Sohyun?” I’ve never heard your voice so small, it made me cock my head to the side to watch you speak. You’re standing with your back turned to me. “They’re dating?”
“Holding hands,” says Rachel.
“Ah, Y/N’s sad~ She likes Haknyeon,” someone says.
You glared at Sohyun. “You think I don’t see right through you?” you hissed at her, and then you stood up, with a tray of half-eaten food, and walked off. I should have tried to stop you, because you never eat well, but Sohyun tried to talk to me now, and I can’t just shrug her off, we’re sort of an item now. I tried to text you, though, and you didn't reply. I’m still waiting on the text about the project.
Which brings me to my next recount: I don’t know what’s with it, but, like, Eric was kind of aggressive towards me when I saw him at the parking lot today. He bumped into my shoulder, actually rather harshly, and went: “next time think about what you’re doing.” What does he mean? I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong, per se, at least to him…?
Anyway, I’m still waiting on your text. I’m thinking, I’ll really have you read all these letters, just so you can understand me better. I don’t like it when we fight.
Anyway, I’m sorry. If you’re in a bad mood you can come to me, though. :)
Your Haknyeon
Dear Y/N,
This is a joke. I might never forget this conversation, it’s riding my mind and I can’t—
Y/n, you’re lying, there’s no way that
This is killing me.
When you met me today you’re actually in a good mood. You don’t even always dress like this… colorful, like spring flowers. You look pretty.
Words just flow and flow out of you, and sometimes you’d ask me about Sohyun.
(“Did you go on a date with her?” “Yeah” *snort* “That’s great.”)
I asked you why you didn’t bring your camera, and you shrugged. “It was actually Eric’s. I don’t actually own a camera—I don’t like taking photos.”
“But the club—?”
“Listen,” you said, “I might have learned the basics on lighting and angles, but I have no interest in photography and my gallery on my phone is all empty—I don’t even have an instagram.”
“I don’t have insta either—Wait, you don’t like photos?” I asked. “Then why did you—come here? This far? Join the club?”
“You were in line,” you say. “In front of me. I saw you, so I… signed up right after you.”
“What?”
“I like you.”
I made a noise that’s somewhere between a gasp and a cry. I don’t ask ‘what’ again, even though we both know that’s what I’m thinking.
“Haknyeon,” you say, “no matter how anti-social everybody else in the world thinks I am, I still try to be your friend, don’t I? I’m the one making the first move everywhere with you—I ask you to sit next to me on the bus, I invite you to parties myself, I asked you to be my project partner.”
“Y-yeah,” I say slowly, camera dropping to hang on my neck heavily. Nervous, so I’m playing with my hands. “Um… why do you do that?”
“Because I like you,” you insist. I’m dumbfounded, but you look angry that I’m dumbfounded and don’t believe you.
“You like me?” I probe, “After you’ve seen me in the snow—after you saw me like that, all… hurt…”
“I've liked you since then,” you say. “Actually, even before that. Before we even met in the snow. I always knew who you were, and liked you.”
I just gawk wordlessly until it makes you roll your eyes.
“Well,” you say, sighing, “you have a girlfriend, so I’m confessing. I know nothing will come out of it.”
“You don’t know,” I said suddenly, before I could stop myself.
“Don’t know what?”
“My pain. You don’t know how bad it is, how painful it was, so… you can’t like me. Because you don’t know me.”
You scoffed. “Yeah. I guess. I don’t know anything, huh.”
But I was wrong, Y/N, which I just decided I am, after I’m in bed thinking about today. I was wrong. I mean, there’s no way you like me, maybe you’re confused—a 5-year-old confusion. But I was wrong to assume you had no pain in your life. The way you glared at me when I said it just says it all. I was wrong to say that… But I guess now I can't take what I said back.
From,
Hak
Dear Y/N,
I have a feeling I might need to talk to you instead of writing letters I’ll never send. Maybe this will be the last one.
I just needed to talk to you about Sohyun.
We’re not dating anymore. I don't know what you'll think, it’s not like you were betting on us failing, but… well, nothing could keep us together! Not when Sohyun only wanted me to one-up you, anyway—and, yes, I knew it all along. I just pretended to be an idiot for a bit. I thought…
Nevermind what I thought.
What were you thinking?
Sohyun and I met at the school cafe after dark. She was angry, and I swear something was off, and one of her acrylic nails was broken. She was fuming when she stormed towards me, it was almost scary. “I’m going to fucking kill Y/N L/n!”
I’m always a little guarded for you, so I ask what happened.
“She attacked me,” Sohyun insisted. “She yelled at me—oh, I am writing this on the college forum, let everybody know what a fucking freak that girl is—she gets everywhere because her family’s famous, she’s arrogant, you know—”
“What did you do?” I asked out of the blue, just because I wanted to know, but she changed her entire demeanor at me, like a bird with ruffled feathers. A fight.
“What?” she spoke with narrowed eyes (that was about the time I realized I fucked up), “What does it matter what I did? She came over to my table and yelled insults at me.”
“What did you do that made her mad?” I asked. It might have been the most engaged I’ve ever been in any conversation with Sohyun, and it pains me to admit it’s about you.
“I’m dating you, if someone attacks me this way, you’re supposed to protect me,” Sohyun says adamantly, wringing her wrists everywhere. I think she might be madder at me than at you. “What kind of boyfriend—do you know what I go through trying to support you, walking on eggshells about those ugly fucking scars all over you, everyone thinks I’m a saint, so you should also—”
“Okay,” I say.
“I’m just saying, I do it out of the goodness of my heart, Haknyeon. Not just being your friend, but also trying to be your girlfriend.”
“Well you don’t have to be either.”
She gasps. “I am not getting dumped by a—” She hurled insults at me, one after another, that I was barely even sorry for her anymore. At the end of it, I smiled. My first real smile in a while.
“Dump me, then. Whatever you feel fits. I’m going home.” It was the most damage I could do, with my character. Somebody else would have hurt her more. I slinged my bag over my shoulder, and walked out on her.
I think I might need to give up on the Photography Club. I made an enemy out of the vice president, after all. It’s funny, it genuinely brought me joy, but I don’t feel bad when I think about leaving.
Because you don’t like it there, either.
Tumblr media
You’re sitting on a bench outside of the dorms, even though you don’t live there. It wasn’t the first time. You know Haknyeon’s window has to be somewhere in the visible lighted up windows, and sometimes you walk by, just to see if it’s still lighted up, or if it’s off, he’s sleeping, or sitting in the dark. As creepy as that is. You’ve always been curious about him, ever since high school. After that day in the snow, you threatened his bullies. You had to move away to America after that, but you made Younghoon keep an eye on them, never hurt a hair on Haknyeon’s head ever again.
You liked him for so long, and you hoped, if you ever did meet again, you’d at least have the courage to say hi. But it really happened, and the first night you saw him again, you couldn’t gather the courage. Instead you talked to Chanhee, and everybody else, just anyone but him. You couldn’t gather the strength.
You only loved him in the only way you knew how: protecting him. Telling people off when they used him as a gossip tool. When Sohyun used him… you fought back. That’s how you ended up here, in front of his dorms, with a swollen eyelid.
It’s necessary to mention you’ve never been in a fight before.
“What are you doing here?”
That’s Haknyeon deep voice, which you recognized immediately. With a sigh, you turn around.
“It’s not so I can see you, trust me.”
Back to his withdrawn character, he balances himself on his heels, mumbling, “why fight?”
“I think you mean ‘why did you fight’?” He kept staring at the ground. “Your taste is girlfriends is horrible…” You tutted. But your eye was hurting. “Do you have an ice pack or something? My eye really hurts.” Which was half truth but half just wanting to spend time with him.
Haknyeon takes you to a convenience store in the corner of the building block, and basically nurses you, carefully pressing the ice pack to your eye.
“How could her nail just scratch you?”
“Ow,” you say, “be gentle.”
“By the way, you’re really bad at fighting.”
“I literally fought her for y—” you stop yourself. “I mean. I just… she’s annoying.”
“I never realized.”
“Yeah, your perfect little girlfriend, huh?” you scoffed.
Haknyeon smiled like he had a secret, as he hummed, pressing the pack to your eye. “It must really hurt…”
“I think you’re been in more pain than me.” It just slipped out of your mouth, so you backpedal. “I mean… fuck, what’s wrong with me?”
“So you do remember everything,” he concluded.
“I don’t forget anything about you, actually. Not since the day we met—but meeting you here was an accident, I thought I’d have to search through facebook or insta to get your contact back again.”
“Well, I don’t use instagram so you’re lucky we met here…” Haknyeon smiled, expression warm and the ice pack on your face lessening the swelling. “Do you really mean it, that you’ve liked me since high school?”
“Every day since I met you. It’s love at first sight.”
“You don’t look like the type to believe in it, funnily.” He looks up at you, grinning. He’s never looked at you this way before—his eyes had some wonder in them. Like the space between stars, dark under the streetlight shade. “I don’t have a girlfriend, if you were wondering.”
Doubtfully, you quirk an eyebrow at him. “For real?”
“I decided ice princesses are better than universal-nice girls.” Haknyeon grinned at you. “I’m not… I’m not saying I need an answer straight away, though. It’s fine if you’ve changed your mind—”
“Haknyeon,” you say, “I made up my mind 5 years ago, when I saw you in the snow.” You reach over and swipe at the hair on his forehead, just like you wiped the blood back then. “Is this okay?” you ask, inching closer towards him.
“It’s okay.” His eyes closed, as if he’s trying to feel the moment with every cell in his body, and you take the opportunity to kiss him, closed eyelids and soft lips.
When you pull away, you swear you’ve never seen Haknyeon so smiley. Which makes you gloat. “Let’s see Sohyun top that,” you hissed under your breath. Ha! You kissed your crush of 5 years.
And you would keep kissing him… and kissing him and kissing him. And he never pulls away from you, no matter how cold, annoying, or mean you get. Sometimes all three of it at once.
“You’re dating Juhaknyeon,” Donghyuck gushes. “I mean, I knew you liked him, but what’s all that with Eric, and Sohyun—”
“We’ve known each other for a long time,” you answered, “ever since freshman year of high school.” And you don’t hold his hand but you look over at him, into his sparkling eyes.
“Wow,” says Donghyuck. “First love?”
“Wow,” says Chanhee, with more emphasis. “Our first photography club couple!”
Haknyeon’s slowly starting to wear short sleeves, now. Soon it’ll be spring, and you can see the cherry blossoms, in the warm weather… and he’ll take off his jacket for once. Scars do heal and fade, and after you’ve kissed his, he swears, they’re fading out more quickly than ever. Not that you needed them to fade: you loved him for the scars, not despite, and you like him, just like this.
For Chanhee’s project, Haknyeon submits just one entry: you, in the snow, wearing almost the same outfit when he met you. This time, the snow remains white, pure. He’s not bleeding anymore.
