Haikyuu Chapter 387: The Greatest Opponent

REFLECTION:

This chapter, we finally get into Kageyama's past where we learn some basic details.

He was raised by his grandfather and older sister

Boy tried to straight up eat a ball as a baby

Ball is literally life for Kageyama

He's gonna fuck a ball when he's older

Kageyama had the Prodigy Problem, eating and breathing a sport that no one cared about. Even his sister backed out when her boyfriend said Volleyball was dumb (that boyfriend would grow up to become Tomonobu Itagaki. Look him up.). Kageyama basically went through the path of the Volleyball Warrior, doomed to be good at something slightly more useful than underwater basket weaving...however, his grandfather gave him a nugget of hope:

"If you keep at the sport, eventually you're going to meet someone that's better than you."

Kageyama hung onto this hope, through practice, through school, through his grandfather's death, through graduation and now...at the end of the chapter, he discovers that what he always wanted has been there with him the whole time.

This is the first time we've seen how Kageyama really sees Hinata. Apparently, Kageyama never felt like he had company like he did with his grandpa until Hinata came along

While everyone turned their backs on him, Hinata faced him head on and gratefully hits every single one of his toss. He finally found someone that would race with him just like how he did with his granfather. Hinata was the first person that reminded Kageyama that he's not alone since his grandpa passed away.

Because of this, Kageyama sees Hinata as a player stronger than him because he was the best and the strongest teammate that he's ever had (Hinata probably thinks the same but the other way around)

In other words, THIS MADE ME F***ING EMOTIONAL BECAUSE THIS WAS HOW IMPORTANT SHOYO WAS TO KAGEYAMA... THEYRE TOO PRECIOUS

What caused Kageyama to turn into the King of The Court

it’s officially March 22 so I am now allowed to post this:

Ever notice how he was still innocent in his first years of Kitagawa Daichi? A lot of people assumed that it was because of Oikawa bullying him a lot that he got tired and just did what he wanted. 

But no it’s because his grandfather, the one that got him into to volleyball in the first place, who he always looked for every day to play, died. That’s what caused him to snap and have all these negative emotions around him.

I read Haikyuu since 2013 and i have never realized that the only flashback that we had of Kageyama’s life was his king phase in Kitagawa Daichi T-T. i feel like my eyes were open after 7 years aksjsjdjdjfjr

BUT FIRST

Kageyama Tobio HAS a sister?!!! I’m sure i’m not the only one which all this years had this headcanon of Kageyama being a only child whose parents are never around (the fandom asserted that one, point for us) But I’m SOOOOO HAPPY that Baby Kageyama had people around him and that he hasn’t always been this emo guy T-T

Next, I think that is important for us the fandom and for the manga to be clear that Kageyama isn’t just a genius or a prodigy, he’s a guy that even before being able to speak was already breathing voleyball, he has a talent of course but more important he had dedication AND a guiadence not only for the game also the self maintenance.

I’m not gonna die for corona virus because my heart died when Kageyama Kazuyo died T-T

So if whe look good to the Haikyuu’s timeline I’m almost sure that Kageyama’s “King of the court” phase matches whit his grandpa’s dead and god Furudate THANK YOU for give us the chance to know that it isn’t true that the only thing that Kageyama cares about is volleyball. This King of the court was just the reflex of a sad kid who has lost his grandpa, the person which he spended the most time with T-T

People, this is character development 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

“WILL COME AND FIND YOU” AAAAAAAAAA in this context in which Kageyama is obviously thinking about Hinata is just SO BEAUTIFUL T-T Kageyama Tobio is recognizing Hinata Shoyo , the guy he put his faith in 7 years ago. Now I understand why Kageyama waited for Hinata, inside him he kind of know that Hinata could be this person who would find him T-T

And I’m obviously a Kagehina shipper so this was so precious for me Ansjsjdjd
