The clothing of a 15th century woman: 1) white cotton long-sleeve shift. 2) Long sleeve under kirtle, in this case a mint green brocade. 3) Short sleeve over kirtle in bright scarlet. 4&5) White cotton fillet, onto which a white muslin veil is pinned. Accessories are leather boots, belt, bag and pouch, and a pair of pearl and red crystal earrings. Bucky woke up like this sometimes, his body paralyzed and his heart pounding, fighting to breathe. Looked around this same bedroom and drowned in waves of meaningless terror. He knew how to break out of it. All you had to do was wiggle your fingers and toes and stay calm. He sang the Battle-Hymn of the Republic in his head when he had to get his breathing under control. But it didn’t matter now, because he couldn’t move his fingers or his toes, and he wasn’t calm, and he wasn’t getting out of this.
