Hey locals/people who are familiar with it.
What fruit/juice/items do you add to canned soupsop/guanabana or tamarindo juice?
I only have bananas, milk, acai smoothie concentrate, rambutan, blueberries though on hand right now open to other easy to find fruits. Scored these in stop & shop of all things in Massachusetts area
Tumblr media
(I also found Poppin bobba there!)

Saturnus Rex
Mystical poem dedicated to Cronus, written 3-28-23.
Art: Francisco Goya, “Saturn Devouring His Son” (1820-1823)
Tumblr media
Oh Time, cursed and rambling
Ancient and cryptic
Hungry to eat your children
And put them behind you
Within your coiled and mighty hands
You grip each moment
Squeezing out the nectar
Bittersweet between sticky fingers
Fate and Necessity have doomed you,
Poor Cronus, savage and mighty god
Out of the eater come forth the eaten
And you lay damned for your efforts
Oh Kinslayer, oh Hungry One
I look across your wrinkled brow
You, father of the father,
Who I cannot escape
Shall we play the game again,
Honored Elder? The dawn is nigh
The turn of the cosmic wheel
Creaking like your very bones
Shall the generations come forth
Full of hungry hopes
And leap from you once again
Only to be devoured?
I am tired, oh Ancient One
And the light has become garish
Put me in your mouth, oh Primal King
And eat—me—up!

Sharing Skin: The Home Game (Part 1)
Atmospheric and sensual, Sharing Skin has produced a handful of you mentioning just how much it makes you want a good bath. The goal of the prose was to create a unmistakable relaxing vibe with just the right touch of decadence. The bulk of my planning period for this fic was crafting the delicate details of each bath, piece by piece. Every aroma, every color, every bubble, every bath bomb, every drink, all the way down to the flower petals and the snacks, was hand picked to build an ambiance (as Eliot would say) and indicate the overall mood of the characters in that scene.
As a little treat, I wanted to curate some of my favorite bath essentials*. Recipes, products, mood lighting and wine pairings for your nerves!
We’re going to take it bath by bath to help you guys recreate the magic of each chapter. That was super fucking cheesy, but I bet you lived for it anyway. I think El and Margo are really starting to rub off on me. 😉
Bath One: What We Deserve
Upon entering the room, Margo’s fingers twist intricately and the room fills with cool, flickering light. She’s always loved the way Eliot’s skin looks in blue.
The first bath is pretty simple: brisk, refreshing air, cool toned lighting, sparkling wine, bubbles and a quick smoke.
While I can’t magically alter the tone and color of the lighting, I do have this pretty fucking best oil diffuser with color changing lights. There are a few really neat ones on the market, and I’ll link to a couple I have personal experience with. Easy to use, you add a few drops of essential oil into a small amount of water in the basin, and let it do all the work of diffusing a fine, gorgeously scented mist of your own creation. The lights change color in a slow, fluid movement, and some can be made to maintain a single color light with soft pulsing effects. Mine is Bluetooth compatible so I can play all the Enya I want as I take a soak.
Recommendations:
1. Colorful Essential Oil Diffuser
2. Ultrasonic Bluetooth Oil Diffuser
If you’re a drinker, sparkling wine is easily the best part of any bath. A nice, chilled wine is both refreshing and lovely balance to the heat of the bath—it doesn’t hurt to have a glass of ice water in the side as well. I’m not a huge fan of proper champagne, so I’ll share some of my favorite sparkling wines instead.
Something Dry
La Marca Prosecco is affordable a delicious. Not too dry, but certainly not too sweet either. Super lovely for people who are a little shy on dry whites.
Something Sweet
Bartenura wines are so fuckin delightful. If you like sweet wines, these are definitely for you if you haven’t already tried them. Fruity and fun, and also Kosher if I am not mistaken
A Rosé
Grapefruit isn’t everyone’s jam, but if you’re down to try something new, this shit is fucking delicious. A lot of wines get described and crisp and refreshing, and this is the first time I fully experienced what that could mean for a wine. It’s definitely worth the shot even if you’re not super keen on grapefruit. Eliot and Margo would definitely want you to try new things. 😉
For the bubble bath, instead of recommending a product, I wanted to share an easy recipe to make your own. Hand making bath and skin care products is a low key hobby of mine and it’s a ton of fun.
Simple Bubble Bath Recipe:
½ cup warm distilled water
½ cup liquid castile soap, scent of your choice (find unscented castile soap here)
¼ cup vegetable glycerin (find organic glycerin here)
a few drops of essential oils of your choosing
Combine all the ingredients and stir them until they're even and smooth. Over time they may separate, so just give them a quick shake in the container until they mix back together, just don’t shake too hard or it will froth up before it’s time for your bath. There is a premature ejacualation joke in there somewhere, I’m sure of it. 😂
I’m not a smoker, and I certainly do not smoke indoors, but I have had a casual smoke after a bath before, it really hits the spot if that is a thing you do. Some hookah, a vanilla clove, or handmade cigarettes of herbs like lavender and damiana can be truly lovely if you’re so inclined. Or, you know, you could just smoke weed like a normal 20-something, your call.
Bath Two: Intertwined
A quick dance of her fingers around each other causes the candles lining the tub to ignite, one by one. The warm flickering illuminates the room with a soft glow.
For best results, wait for a rainy day and bring a friend.
A minimalist bath after a rough night. Budget whiskey, candles, and maybe a good smoke at the end of it all before calling it a night.
Floating candles are a great way to create a simple but relaxing vibe. You can go through the delicate balancing act of lighting real candles and keeping them afloat without putting them out, or you can use these nifty, waterproof LED floating candles and save yourself the trouble. Maximum vibe for minimum effort is Eliot and Margo as fuck.
Whisky recommendations (Eliot takes his in a flask here, but feel free to have yours in a glass, maybe with a spot of water or over cold stones):
Bushmills 10 Year
Jameson Black Barrel
Knob Creek Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bath Three: Winner’s Circle
Margo nods her approval as she settles against Eliot’s chest. With the bubble situation under control, the soft, rosy gold water is visible where their bodies emerge from bubbles. As their movements still, the water shimmers with brilliance that could make the night sky jealous as the light catches individual flecks of glitter.
Confession: I spent way too much time on the Lush website trying to dream up this bath. I suffered through hours of product reviews and ASMR videos of “Lush Cocktails” before I finally settled on the right mix of products. I will never look at a strainer the same way again.
If you’d like to soak in your own gloriousness a la Bath 3, you’ll need to pick up Sunnyside (a lovely citrusy bubble bar with glitter for DAYS) and The Comforter (the classic black currant bubble bar that many considers Lush staple, and a personal favorite) from your local Lush or order them from the website. Combined, they make the prettiest rose gold. It’s everything, I promise! The bubble bars are designed to be broken apart and used in small chunks, because they create a serious amount of bubbles. I’d cut them in pieces and use a small chunk of each, or you can go buckwild like El and Margo, but expect some serious overflow if you do it right.
Oh! And bonus points for setting up a trophy to gaze at as you soak.
If you liked one of the wines from the first bath, you can easily pair it with this bath too, or you can use one of these. I will alway have more wine to recommend.
Something Dry
Ruffino Prosecco is lovely, dry and fruity. It can be a touch pricier than La Marca, but not by much. Totally affordable—as most proseccos are— and tasty. Even if you don’t really like dry whites, it’s hard to go wrong with a prosecco.
Something Sweet
Martini & Rossi Asti. Affordable, sweet, Italian sparkling wine. It’s self explanatory and delicious.
A Rosé
I told you guys I live for Bartenura wines. The Malvasia di casorzo is seriously one of my favorite wines. Sweet and fruity, it’s just really fucking good. I won’t try to sell you with somm lingo and flavor notes like “wilted vines” and “fresh tennis balls”, just drink the wine. If you like sweet, it’s awesome.
Bath Four: Delusions, Major and Minor
Notes of ripe, juicy peach, and hint of honey fill the air. The bath water is a bright, creamy orange with a soft light glowing from beneath the surface. Their subtle movements create a shimmer as they stir the water.
**
Margo lightly strokes the water and hums as she considers her next choice. She brings her hands together, rolling her wrists over each other before stitching her fingers together in an intricate shape. A deliberate tap of the surface of the bath with her middle finger causes the water to turn pink beneath her touch. The color ripples out from the point of contact in concentric waves, quickly changing the entire bath. With the same finger, she traces a small sigil on the back of Eliot’s left hand to tie him into the spell. Eliot makes three quick taps along the surface of the bath. Orange, yellow and red diffuse into the water, the edges of Eliot’s colors are much more feathered and frayed than Margo’s. The colors swirls together, blending into beautiful gradients when they come into contact with each other and the pink hues from Margo. The result is somewhere between the light of a setting sun and an abstract painting.
I have a couple of ways you could recreate this bath if you’re so inclined. If you want to go for the bright, peachy vibe complete with Bellini, a peach scented bath bomb while you rub yourself down with scrubee will give you that mix of ripe stone fruit and honey. (And don’t skimp on scrubee, that bad boy will leave your skin silky smooth and hydrated as fuck and the scent is incredible) The bath bombs I wanted to recommend seen to mostly be out of stock, but I hope a few come back for the summer months.
Peachy by Lush
Pretty as a Peach by Bath & Body Works
Honey Peach by Sabon
Basic Bellini recipe:
One part peach nectar
2 parts prosecco
If you want to get really fancy with it, you can purée a couple of peaches and mix one part of that with 2 parts prosecco (or you can flip those proportions if you want a more fruit heavy cocktail), but if you want to get fancy without doing a ton of work, you can buy a peach nectar instead. Just make sure it’s the good stuff, actual peach nectar, and not some sugary “fruit juice blend” where none of the fruits involved are actual peaches. I’ve used both Goya and Jumex. I always garnish with a peach wedge or wheel.
If you don’t want to go with the peach bath, you could do a multicolored bath instead. Hot Topic has a cute dragon egg bathbomb that changes a colors as it fizzes and finally settles into a nearly black final bath color. It’s super fucking huge and so much fun.
Continued in Part 2
*I am not paid or sponsored in any way shape or form, nor am I associated with any of the above brands, licenses, etc.. I’m just overly enthusiastic about a fanfiction I wrote and a slut for good bath vibes.

What Red Bull Music Festival LA Event Should You Go To Based on Your Weirdly Specific Tastes?
Tumblr media
Red Bull Music has made a name for themselves as throwers of some of the best, most unique, and not-to-miss events. The same holds true for their month-long, city-wide festivals, which take place in Berlin, New York, and now Los Angeles. Last year saw the Los Angeles edition of the festival showcase acts likes Flying Lotus, SOPHIE, and St. Vincent in atypical performance spaces–from a historic graveyard for celebrities to a movie studio backlot.
Now, in its sophomore year, Red Bull Music Festival Los Angeles is set to return this February bigger and better than ever. Yet, with such a diverse lineup quite like anything else we have seen before, what event should you go to? Well, going to all of them is what we would recommend, but if you cannot do that then maybe let your own tastes do the deciding.
If you like Los Angeles’ historic tradition of Latinx music or telenovelas… we suggest San Cha: La luz de la Esperanza.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 7, 2019 Where: Vibiana
Kicking off Red Bull Music Festival Los Angeles in proper fashion, Los Angeles-based sing-songwriter San Cha will transform The Cathedral of Saint Vibiana to deliver a multifaceted vision, inspired by the telenovelas that raised her, to life. Featuring not only SAN CHA but some of Los Angeles’ most talented Latinx artists, the Vibiana will be filled with the sounds of everything from mariachi, Afro-Latin, to slow disco. Simply put, this is a night where you should expect the unexpected.
If you like bingeing Netflix or deep diving for obscure movie finds… we suggest Center Channel.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 7 – 23, 2019 Where: Ukrainian Culture Center
Your favorite music fiend gets an event, well series of events, all their own. Center Channel, which functions as a festival within a festival, is a unique film festival that explores the way in which sound complements storytelling in visual media. With film premieres, screenings, panels, and more, covering everything from punk rock to Selena, Center Channel is poised to be a binge-worthy event.
If you like producing music or anything Top Dawg Entertainment has done over the years… we suggest Producers Roundtable.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 12, 2019 Where: Ukranian Culture Center
Los Angeles is home to many things but one genre in particular sticks out–hip-hop. To this day, thanks to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and the Odd Future Crew, Los Angeles has remained a breeding ground for some of hip-hop’s hottest artists and producers. Speaking of producers, the Producers Roundtable will feature a roundtable discussion with Los Angeles natives Soundwave, MixedByAli, and Tae Beast, all of whom have helped out together some of the best work In Top Dawg Entertainment’s discography.
If you like falling in love or getting your heart broken… we suggest Heartbeats.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 14, 2019 Where: The Majestic Downtown at The Reserve
Valentine’s Day means a lot more than store bought heart-shaped chocolates this year. Bringing together two generations of rap powerhouses, Miami legend Trina and Chicago’s rising star CupcakKe will be joined by Junglepussy for a night of unapologetically raunchy examinations of love, romance, and sex. And what better place to celebrate Valentine’s Day and rap’s love affair with varying portrayals of romance than going off in the halls of a historic bank vault in downtown Los Angeles?
If you like ‘90s era skate culture or Jonah Hill…. we suggest Illegal Civ Movie Motel.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 16, 2019 Where: Pink Motel
If you somehow missed out on Jonah Hill’s directorial debut film mid90s, first, go see that, then make your way to Illegal Civilization’s Movie Motel. Illegal Civilization is a skate crew out of Los Angeles who, through producing, directing, designing, curating, and, of course, skating, has gone on to shape Los Angeles’ underground culture. Having collaborated with Jonah Hill, Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, and more, the Los Angeles collective is now set to host a day-long carnival at an iconic ‘50s-era motel, showcasing music, film, and beyond.
If you like photography or rap caviar… we suggest Gunner Stahl & Friends.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 21, 2019 Where: Koreatown
Photographer Gunner Stahl has made a career from capturing raw portraits of some of hip-hop’s most notable artists. Whether it be Tyler, the Creator, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Gucci Mane, The Weeknd, or Lil Yachty, it is difficult to name a rapper who hasn’t ended up on the other side of Stahl’s lens. And for one night one only, this generation’s hip-hop documentarian will throw down a DJ set filled with surprise guest performances from many a familiar face.
If you like Grammy Award-nominated chart-topping pop or the sweet nectar produced by bees… we suggest Robyn.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 22 & 23, 2019 Where: Hollywood Palladium
Robyn is a pop artist quite like no other. The Swedish pop auteur returned in 2018 following an eight-year hiatus to release what may go down as her most critically-acclaimed album to date, Honey. The long-awaited album, which topped many people’s year-end lists, will be brought to life over the course of two not to miss shows at the Hollywood Palladium. When we say not to miss, we mean it. After all, this marks Robyn’s first performance in Los Angeles since 2010.
If you like open world video games or cowboys… we suggest The Music of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Tumblr media
When: Feb. 23, 2019 Where: Goya Studios
Rockstar Games is known for creating games that feel like a world unto themselves, and the notion is wholly true of their latest endeavor, Red Dead Redemption 2. The open world epic of a Western Outlaw from the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series is not only one of the best, if not the best, video game of 2018, but it also featured one of the best scores. Red Bull Music and Rock Star Games will be reimagining Red Dead’s 80-hour score as a unique auditory installation brought to life by a full ensemble performance, featuring both experimental Indonesian duo Senyawa and composer Woody Jackson. Yee-haw.

Biking for Lemon Sorbet
My mother says she has a craving for Zesty Lemon sorbet and will my brother and I go to ACME and get it? We will, so we saddle up our bikes, find a helmet for my brother, who is not allowed to ride without one ever since he biked a wrong road in the Wissahickon and crossed a highway without one (twice), and shove off. I know my bike has a lower gear than his, so I ease up so he can keep up, and we hum down Oregon on our moving chains. The street could fry an egg in this heat, and passing an Italian bakery and smelling fresh bread makes me think even more of food, grease,  onions, tomatoes. As we pass a man takes his shirt off. A dog pants. All the Italians in South Philly are tan and lean, they warm in the sun like lizards, and wear white or black tube socks. I like my Irish side more than my Italian, but this is not bad after all: pizza, hot streets, talking hands, the sauce of life in everything, or, as the South Philly Italians, would say,  the gravy. In the store everything is red and white and blue for July 4th, and my brother stops to longingly hold a tube of firecrackers. I wondered if the cashier would judge us paying for Zesty Lemon sorbet with a food stamps card, but he doesn’t care, he doesn’t give a shit, let the poor have cream. Outside my brother says look how beautiful the sky is, and I do: deepening blue pooled between gray clouds. We deliver the sorbet to my mother smoking in the backyard. “This is all I wanted for tonight,” she says, “just to relax.” We sit in the backyard with her and I drink my pineapple soda from a glass bottle and my brother drinks Goya apricot nectar and I think of that time in the Dominican, when we all drank Pepsis in long necked bottles, and returned them to the store for pesos when we were done, and dogs trotted around the street, and green lizards scampered past, and the thick heat descended and enveloped everything like love.

Which guarantees awesomeness and happiness, because, well, Friday!
We made it to the weekend!
I don’t know about how your week went, but if it was anything like mine, it went fast. Having a Monday holiday really makes the week just fly by.
Also flying by?  The product you could win for drinking today’s advertised product.
This week, we’re delving into the archives of 1987 and focusing on delicious juice drinks.  Yesterday, we had kids informing us that, with Goya Nectars, we “could taste the taste they got,” freeze ’em, and eat them!
Today, we’re drinking the stuff of space explorations, all so we could win a super cool prize!
Wow, must be stirring up something AMAZING!  Click play for more!
So…drink Tang…
Tumblr media
…possibly win a Big Orange Scooter?
Only if you enter by writing to this address…or finding a certificate in your Tang jar!
Well darn, that was 30 years ago! Now I’ll never get my scooter!
Actually the “millions will enter, thousands will win” disclaimer is code for “not a chance in hell.”
I wonder how many people actually won these scooters.  Since typing in “Tang Big Orange Scooter” got me this top find, and not some personal blog story about the time someone won a Big Orange Scooter from Tang in 1988, then I guess we’ll never know.
Tang is still very much produced today.  It has been around since 1957 (in powdered form since 1959), but only became popular after it was famously consumed by John Glenn in 1962 while in space.  Mondelez International currently owns the brand, but it was originally created by General Foods Corporation Food Scientist William A. Mitchell.  It was part of General Foods Corporation from its inception until 1990, when General Foods merged with Kraft.
So we’ll call this week a double victory, as both featured products still exist.
Last night, while Iwas grocery shopping, I actually saw Goya Nectars on the shelves at Wal-Mart with other Goya products, and I have seen plastic containers of Tang among the powdered drink mixes at every store I shop at.  So we’ll call this week a double win for two still-existing products.
We don’t have victories like that very often, folks.  Let’s enjoy this.
And that does it for this week’s blast from the archives of the past.  Come back next week, where we’ll do it all over again.
Maybe a double win next week too?
We can aspire!
Have a great Friday, and a fantastic weekend!
On this #FlashbackFriday, stirring up some Tang (or writing in to a contest addresss) may win you a Big Orange Scooter...in 1988. Which guarantees awesomeness and happiness, because, well, Friday!
