🍭why did you start writing?

I know right? What was I thinking? :)

I've just always been a storyteller. I think any and all of us who write fanfiction are, and the internet makes sharing our works easier than it's ever been. Why would anyone not want to write in this day and age?

I think, I just kinda fell into it, myself. As a youngling on the nets back in the mid-90's, my thing was sharing artwork, for the most part. I liked designing characters, too, so that became the largest part of it... Making OCs. No surprises there, I'm sure. But eventually, these OCs were less about looking cool and more about the stories that made them who they were. So, I started dabbling in writing.

Funny enough -- the first things I wrote which I felt were successful and which I took seriously, were also comics. It's just been my preference to tell a story visually, whenever possible, I guess. Through the years, comics became just as easy for me to create as the long-ass fanfic I found myself writing when I did work in prose, so I tend to default to them. Make no mistake -- I also enjoy writing text-only stuff from time to time.

...If there was a way I could animate faster, I'd probably be presenting my stories as fan-animations, though. :D

A small study on grief

Fandom: Wayfarer IF Pairing: None Characters: Thesor Sereno (OC), Honoria Ionneon (OC) Content warning: Nothing of note stands out, but I will add if needed

It’s been five months since the Spire was overrun and two since he and Honoria showed up at her father Justinian’s home. Five months, not nearly enough to forget the scents, the sights, the sounds, tools of his trade, yet now turned against him so ruthlessly he can’t help it. Hundreds against dozens - of course they’d fall, no matter how well trained they are. It all makes sense, in that cold-blooded part of his head. But hard pragmatism does little to soothe the open wounds on his heart and the grief-like puss that oozes out of them. 

Even his face won’t let him forget. He feels the wound every time he emotes. He feels people staring at him, the warm, dark red against his cool, pale skin, and he offers a weak, apologetic little smile in response. Honoria’s done all she could. It’ll leave a scar regardless. 

I’m sorry for being a little unsightly right now. It’ll never go away. He always resists the urge to hide his face away before the other person returns to whatever they were doing.

It’s been five months and Thesor still sees the heartache on his pillow every time he wakes up.

I love how we made all those jokes about Phil having a crisis when Dan was away, like needing to be babysat by their friends and killing all the plants, but we just got the lore drop that Phil actually had a mini crisis and started dying everything in the house green for no apparent reason?? Like Dan leaving truly made Phil so bored and/or unhinged he decided dying his bathmat green would be fun. Is Daniel Howell of all people this man’s impulse control? Sleep a Way Out!

Thoughts/ some explanations below the cut

It's a little disappointing to me that even though Zero abducts everyone in 999 at night, none of them seem to be in their pj's. So this is what I imagine their pj's (or in some cases, clothes worn around the house) would look like.

Ace's boxer fit is purely vibes based. He just seems like that kinda guy.

Lotus: I tried to bring some of her girl boss energy into her pj's. I imagine she wraps her hair in silk so it doesn't get messed up at night.

Clover just seems like she would chill in an oversized cutesy onesie.

Snake: My historical fashion obsession rears its head. He's wearing a Banyan, which is a European gown/lounge wear from the 1700s based on the Kimono and possibly other Indian robes if I recall correctly. The flower on its sleeve is a Chinese Lantern plant. He's holding a chamber candle stick as well. His cap is just based on stereotypical goofy historical pjs, just for fun.

Junpei: I couldn't bring myself to remove what I saw as some of the most iconic parts of Junpei's original design so I just remixed them. Instead of a flannel shirt he's wearing flannel pajama pants and instead of "bisexual sneakers" he's wearing one bisexual slipper (the other one got lost). I was originally intending to give him a generic college or baseball tee but while I was replaying through Ai the Somnium files I spotted the 999 reference by Sunfish Pocket and thought it would be fun to give him an old Lemniscate shirt instead.

June: She has to be wearing purple. Her fashion sense seems to be very natural, with a lot of knitting and textile ornamentation which lead me to think she'd probably wear a nice, simple cotton nightgown. And the bunny slippers are a little nod to her backstory.

Santa: You know, I just get the impression that Santa sleeps in the same clothes he wears in the game. And with a build like that he's definitely getting enough sun to have some embarrassing tan-lines.

Seven: Again, kinda like Santa, I get the feeling his pajamas could be the same clothes he wears in the game. But the shower sandals are a must.

Guy 9: There just wasn't enough for me to go off of for him. So I deleted him :) Sorry. He blew up.

originality is the "aesthetic" you are looking for. individuality is the "it factor" you are looking for. from your personality, pieces, hair, cadence of voice...even down to your favorite foods or special interests. you aren't supposed to change every aspect about yourself to be more palatable for everyone you meet. that actually makes you BORING!!!

"but so and so is doing this" "but what if people don't like it" ... so??? don't take people disliking your aesthetic as a sign that you need to do something different. like, of course they don't like it or have second thoughts - it's because THEY wouldn't do it themselves because it wouldn't go with THEIR given aesthetic. unless they are like minded, stop asking other people to weigh in on the things you CLEARLY like about yourself. especially if it's a core personality trait or interest. your LIFE isn't a group project. your LIFE is not a co-op game.

and yes... people will try to force you to assimilate and follow the crowd by speaking misfortune on your rebrand, your expression, your hobbies, your chosen path out of jealousy. however, that jealousy is lowkey unspoken respect for the fact you have the candor to go against homogeneity.

your authentic dedication to everything that makes you YOU is what will bring you the illustrious life you so fervently seek in the end...not some book a celebrity wrote or a youtube video. it's in YOUR DNA to be a star already in anything you want to do.

there isn't one tutorial on this world wide web that will help you if you don't realize you have the components within you first. there is NOTHING wrong with you!!! you are EVERYTHING that is right already!!!

It occurred to me recently that almost all of my older Life Series art (think 3rd Life / Last Life) was more fantasy-leaning so I decided, for science, to try that more fantasy-leaning vibe for a Secret Life doodle. I also brought back the painterly leaning style because evidently I really like that for my more illustration based stuff. Also I used a different lineart brush which is an absolute vibe. AND I attempted a more color-based-storytelling-something-or-other which I've seen very well done recently especially in animation which I absolutely love. Basically I tried things with this one lol

Anyways. Random, very much spoiler free Secret Life doodle (it's literally not plot relevant at all it's just for the vibes lmao) of Gem and the Scotts that's less band inspired and more fantasy inspired and I'm kinda vibing with it. Enjoy :D
