When you told Malleus you had a surprise for him, he was so ecstatic that it showed in the clear weather. Whatever surprise his boyfriend had prepared for him, he would be happy with it. But you introducing your Pokémon team to him was something he wasn’t expecting

He’d only heard that you had a team of other-worldly creatures but actually seeing them was something else, so of course he was interested in them

Oh if you let him feed your team he will be over the moon. Please let him give them berries or any Pokémon-safe dish. It could be the smallest one on your team or the biggest grunt you have, he will be happy to feed them

If you ask him to help clean your Pokémon, Malleus will fumble a bit since Pokémon require different types of care but he’d be more than happy to help. Honestly, to him, it’s like you have your own little pet family

Imagine randomly finding a Pokémon egg that wasn’t from your team. It just showed up in Twisted Wonderland. You don’t really have any safe way to store or care for the egg since you’re in a foreign land (no boxes sadge) so you give it to Malleus!

Dragon instincts immediately kick in for him. This Pokémon, whatever it ends up being, will be your “child” no debate. I full heartedly believe that Malleus would be a master of dragon types (or dragon-looking types) so I would either give him a shiny Charizard (Charmander) or a Garchomp (Gibble). I think they look cool with his style/color palette

Lilia has seen a lot of things throughout his rather long life, but you wanting to introduce him to your Pokémon team was a pleasant surprise and experience for him

He thought they were so cute! From the smallest one to the biggest one, all of them were adorable to him! He really wanted to build a connection with them not only to get closer to them, but to you as well

Do not let this man feed your Pokémon any food that he makes. It’s alright if you give him pre-made stuff that’s safe for them but do not let him feed them unattended! Some of your Pokémon are smart enough to notice, others aren’t!!

Again, parental instincts. It’s like second nature to him when you ask for help in cleaning your Pokémon, like he already knows what they need

So when you suddenly find an egg that didn’t come from your party, you decided to give it to Lilia since you had no way to take care of it.

Lilia getting an egg from you and treating it like a child brings back memories of his past. Pleasant ones. I would give Lilia either a Swoobat (Woobat) or a Noivern (Noibat) solely because they have a bat motif to them

Silver knew how big the world was solely because of the stories his father loved to tell him when he was young. Never did he once expect a simple surprise from you would be you introducing your Pokémon team to him

He had heard that you used strange creatures to battle but he never thought he’d be able to see these creatures first-hand. He absolutely loves these creatures

Silver loves feeding your Pokémon with you. He thinks it’s an opportunity to bond with your team and relax with you. He’s super careful about feeding them and only gives them what you tell him to give

When it comes to cleaning your Pokémon, Silver is kinda a hit or miss. With some of them, he might be really skilled. Others, not so much. Oh well, at least it’s easy for him to learn new things

Finding a random egg that your team hadn’t created was a shocker to you. You had no way to care for it since Pokémon weren’t a thing in this world so you decided to give it to Silver

He was a bit slack-jawed when you gave him a Pokémon egg. He doesn’t really know what to do or how to care for an egg but he was thankful he had his father to help him learn

It doesn’t matter to him what he gets when the egg hatches. It’s something you gave him and trusted him with. He has every intention of fully caring for it. If I had to give Silver a Pokémon, it’d either Galarian Rapidash (Ponyta) or Gallade (male Ralts) since I think he’d do well with psychic types. Besides, they work well for a knightly character

Sebek had heard the rumors that you used other-worldly creatures to fight but he never knew whether to believe them or not. So when he allowed you to take him away from his duty and show him your surprise, he was stunned

So the rumors about you having strange creatures was true! But now this opens a whole can of questions for him. How did you get them? How do they fight? Are there different types? Different colors? Be prepared to answer a lot of them

Sebek is helpless when it comes to caring for your Pokémon. He only feeds your Pokémon what you say they should eat. As much as he wants to pamper them, he has to keep his composure and do as you tell him. He wouldn’t want to hurt them or lose your trust

Again, helpless. He wouldn’t be able to clean your Pokémon, especially if they’re the mischievous type or just don’t like baths. As much as he would like to help, he feels he wouldn’t be super good at it. Oh well, at least he’s willing to help and learn

So imagine finding a random egg that is in no way connected to your current team at all. There’s no possible way you’d be able to take care of him because of your lack of boxes so you decided to give it to Sebek

Although he was initially against having his own, it took only a few seconds to convince him because it was a gift from you and it can provide an advantage in fights…it was mainly because it was from you that he agreed to care for it to the best if his ability. Croc boy was the hardest for me actually but I narrowed it down to shiny Chimecho (Chingling) and Krookodile (Sandile). Just look at their entries. Trust me

Salem

Tried to kill the gods when they refused to bring her lover back from the dead. Became sort of the devil. Has been fighting against her ex trying to divide and conquer humanity for millennia. Found a traumatized girl and thought, I can make her worse. Manipulates said girl into being her loyal servant/attack dog in exchange for power, and is explicitly paralleled with the girl's abusive ""mother"". Is great at manipulating people in general and has zero problems hurting kids.

She is the main bad, she tried to trick the gods into bringing her love back to life and when they found out the gods decided to teach her a lesson by making her immortal (unable to be with her dead love), but the only lesson she learned was 'The hearts of men are easily swayed'. She manipulative

When her BF died she decided to trick a god into reviving them. When she got found out she was made immortal as punishment. So instead she tricks kingdoms into attacking the gods. This left everyone uh, dead. But she got magic evil powers, learned to control soulless beasts of destruction, and now that people are back has spent millenia fighting against them in secret to get what she wants. Mostly by manipulating people, lying, intimidating, telling the truth when it helps, and generally Girlbossing the strongest people she can get her hands on.

This os Grimley (he/it/they) he is Just A Little Boy and also death itself

I honestly do not have much lore made for him because he is perfect the way he is

Grimley actually gets along pretty well with everyone, admittedly he doesn’t really talk to the other nightingales very often because it can be a bit difficult to reach him living in the afterlife all the time

Grimley CAN enter the living world, but he much prefers the afterlife to it, and the other Nightingales can’t normally enter the afterlife without doing a re-enactment of the 💀 emoji (dying) and they can’t do that very easily so… yeah they usually have to get one of the Writers (probably Crown) to fetch him or just,, yell his name REALLY loudly which, surprisingly enough, IS able to get his attention sometimes

As we may have caught, Grimley is basically the multiverse’s grim reaper. He leads lost souls to their respective afterlives and will take the form of whatever the universe requires (so he can actually look like the big cloak skeleton man we know the grim reaper to be, or he can be some guy named Hank idk! Whatever the universe requires yk)

The blue rose is related to Stark maidens, first the unnamed Stark girl and then Lyanna. Bael and Rhaegar tainted those roses. Dany seeing the blue flower in HOTU is omnious as all her visions were negative and omnious. She is more in lines with Bael and Rhaegar who will try to taint the blue rose.

Agreed. The language around the roses can include Jon, who is Lyanna's son and himself lived a parallel experience to his own mother with his abuser Ygritte and she called him a "maid"). But it's not especially connected to him outside of references to Stark women, and certainly not exclusive to him.

Lyanna, Bael's Winter Rose, and Sansa share obvious parallels, and a theme of abduction, sexual exploitation and childbirth. (As of yet only foreshadowed for Sansa, obviously.) But that doesn't mean that's all a Winter Rose can do.

Ned Stark reached out his hand to grasp the flowery crown, but beneath the pale blue petals the thorns lay hidden. He felt them clawing at his skin, sharp and cruel, saw the slow trickle of blood run down his fingers, and woke, trembling, in the dark.

I agree on the ominousness of the HOTU visions. Whether Jon, Sansa or Arya (who is likely to be a maiden flowered by the time this becomes relevant), all of the characters with an obvious connection to the blue flower and the Stark maiden role are likely to spell bad news for Dany.

My money is on all of them, but especially on the little Winter Rose whose connection to sweetness is particularly... sharp.

This connection from the TWOW Mercy sample chapter is my favorite:

"One of the mummers," said the pretty one. He pushed his fair hair back off his brow and smiled at her. "Sorry, sweetling, we don't speak your gibble-gabble." (...)

"I know your tongue, a little," she lied, with Mercy's sweetest smile. "You are lords of Westeros, my friend said." (....)

"I am not," lied Mercy. "I'm a maiden now." "Not for long," said the comely one. "I'm Lord Rafford, sweetling, and I know just what I want.(....)

Other interesting mentions of sweetness for Arya in the books:

Rhea Ripley Headcannon

❤️Pokemon Edition❤️

Who's on Rhea’s Team?~

Garchomp

-Garchomp has been with Rhea for years, from a wounded gibble or a raging overprotective partner in crime. (2013 when she started first wrestling)

-Garchomp has helped Rhea with awards, badges and keeping her team trained and always ready for a fight.

-Garchomp is number one for “the team slayer” taking out a team with only one move. They were unstoppable!

-Sometimes Garchomp gets jealous if Rhea is getting attention from other people or other Pokemon so it was hard to see how she was gonna have more Pokemon on the team.

-Rhea had to have a talk with Garchomp, bribing her with poffins, just to get a point made. And make a promise. “You are never gonna be replaced.” Garchomp took it to heart and nodded. Providing to try their best to get along with other Pokemon.

-Garchomp knows mostly Dragon and dark moves.

Joltik

-Joltik is Rhea’s baby! A sweet bug/electric type that Rhea found just hanging in a web the mother made. She was able to feed it peacha berries!

-Joltik soon got attached to Rhea going with her on big adventures! Rhea never seen a Joltik before so Damien told her that it had a rare birth defect, it’s eyes a beautiful purple and it’s skin a gold besides yellow. (Shiny)

-Joltik has refused to evolve for many reasons. Mostly because he loves being pocket size to be everywhere.

-Joltik only knows a good amount of bug type moves and thunder wave.

Gengar

-A gastly came across Judgement day pulling pranks. How unlucky. For the gastly not them.

-Rhea wasn't phased by the childish Pokemon, it tried everything to scare Rhea but she wouldn't flinch.

-Rhea caught the gastly out of annoyance but that soon turned to friendship.

-Rhea then trained the little Gastly into a Sweet Gengar, teaching it moves of Dark and Poison.

-There was one emergency move that Gengar learned called nightmare. It can hurt the Pokemon and trainer that's why it is only for emergency.

Weavile

-Rhea one day came across to an abandoned dusk ball. Slightly scuffed and in use.

-As Rhea released the mystery Pokemon, something didn't feel right. It was hurt and violent. So rhea used Joltik to Paralyze it.

-Rhea went to the poke center to get the Weavile fixed up. She also went to the memory finder in the poke center. The man said that the weavile was abused and used for a weapon. She had a choice to leave the weavile at a nursery but Rhea took them in and started training.

-It was tough, but from a Hostile, not able to trust anyone weavile, to a strong nonchalant weavile that has her back 24/7.

Bewear

-Rhea was just traveling with her team when she saw some poacher trucks around the area, she halted the travel to see what was going on.

-Poachers were gathering Stuffuls, a defenseless normal type. Most were sadly gone but one more was still in it's cage marked and scared. It's family taken away.

-Rhea broke the cage open, removing the mark and feeding the stufful some. Soon the stufful started following her around as her new mama.

-Soon the poachers met back with Rhea and her team, the stufful coming in front of her trying to protect her was sadly kicked to the side. But that awakened something terrifying.

-Right then and there, the stufful evolved into Bewear. The poachers were ready but not ready for her attacks. Protecting Rhea and her team, she earned her rightful place on her team. A true tank.

Pangoro

-Pangoro was once a Pancham stalking Rhea one day. She was helping Bewear train. She was amazed by Garchomp and Bewears fighting she wanted to join in.

-Garchomp was annoyed by the small little Pokemon and tried to scare it away. The little Pancham swiped Garchomps nose.

-Rhea was impressed but at the same time scared because again, GARCHOMP ISNT THE ONE TO PLAY WITH.

-Rhea quickly grabbed the little pancham protecting him and Garchomp growled low. ‘Another one of her Rescues.’ his eyes said.

-Rhea trained pancham and the final test was to fight someone on her team. She picked her Rival, Garchomp.

-Times looked low and pancham wasn't giving up, Rhea wanted to step in but Bewear stopped her having faith in the pancham. And lord and behold, she evolved midbattle. The battle was close and both fainted. So it was a draw, and Rhea doesn't want them to fight again. But one day, they will and they will be ready.

Anyways here are my rottmnt pokemon team headcanons bc i love making these so much

Leo: Torterra, Riolu, Ninjask, Zangoose, Gibble, Kedabra

Donnie: Blastoise, Rotom, Porygon, Beldum, Golek, Cacturne

Raph: Drednaw, Clefairy, Machoke, Snorlax, Makuhita, Ludicolo

Mikey: Torkal, Smeargle, Bellossom, Baltoy, Cranidos

April: Crustle, Zorua, Solosis, Fletchinder, Skitty, Noivern

Casey: Tirtouga, Mimikyu, Porygon-Z, Trubbish, Amaura, Applin

My reasonings on why for each are below the cut :):

Leo:

Torterr:- big and strong but so cute and full of love and life. He kinda just. Holds the fam together. his first pokemon (all the turtle pokemon are the brothers starters)

Riolu: Blue pokemon and physical fighting with some Magic, and i just love riolu and i feel like it compliments Leader Leo very well (he evolved when leo steps up and accepts his role as leader. leader of what? idk i havent thought that far into this au)

Ninjask: greatest ninja ever needs a ninja pokemon :)

Zangoose: his eye. His eye marking. Is like leo’s. Im a simple man i see red eye mark i go ‘oh thats leo’

Gible: blue and chompy. I like the idea of leo being Tormented by this lil chompy guy and then he evolves into this real powerful pokemon. And then he still torments him for him

Kedabra: teleports. leo teleports.

Donnie:

Blasoise: gun turtle. Idk what else to say (i was gonna give him torterra bc ‘but my real passion is biology’ but. Gun turtle.) I think he helps leo take care of his torterra tho

Rotom: this feels a lil self-explanatory lol. but with his rotom, he builds more than the “standard’ rotom body options for him, including one of those toy punching robots (fighting), a jetpack form (flying, but cooler than the fan form), a robot dragon (dragon), a fertilizer spreader thing (poison), and of course his favorite: Gun (steel)

Porygon: again, self explanatory i think. It evolves in a really Climatic Moment too and like Saves The Day (but more of a one-off episode Climatic Moment)

Beldum: another lil robot guy. donnie thought it was cool, and then he learned its evolution is super strong and went “heh knew it all along” but he is clearly lying to look cool

Golek: a lil robot (kinda) guy

Cacturne: he likes botany. And also hes smart enough to kno he needs some type differences in his team (the cacturne was a gift from his bros when they saw how much he liked their grass types)

Raph:

Drednaw: i mean LOOK at that guy. He’d have a shiny version bc the shiny version is a greener shade AND has red on it. Big spiky.

Clefairy: cuddly boy for a cuddly boy

Machoke: he saw one pokemon fight as a kid and fell in love. And then he saw the contests and started entering those, and people think he aims for the “cool” ones but he keeps winning the “cute” ones with his machoke

Snorlax: raph uses him all the time to make his brothers (mostly donnie and leo) sleep, bc he has snorlax (SAFELY) lay on them and fall asleep

Makuhita: cute lil punchy boy :) also reminds me of the paper friend

Ludicolo: i mean come on look at the lil guy of course hes raphs pokemon

Mikey:

Torkoal: fiery turtle. Hot and fun. I think he likes to leap into the air using his back steam (i imagine him yelling “FULL STEAM AHEAD” and then torkoal moves so slow)

Smeargle: self explanatory. Little bouncy art guy. this is his main pokemon, always hanging around him outside the pokeball.

Bellossom: this one just looks like mikey to me. i think him getting it was like a “he saw it abandoned and wanted to return it to its trainer, but it lost a contest so the trainer abandoned it. it now doesnt wanna do contests, but wants BLOOD” type thing. (ok it doesnt want blood but it likes fighting more)

Baltoy: mikey saw this lil clay guy and they bonded immediately. Also some psychic bc mystic magic feels psychic to me. his smeargly likes to paint on it like ceramics

Cranidos: looks like the robot dino from the cut episode, so of course i picked it

Crustle: when they were little and first met april, they wanted her to be apart of their Turtle Squad, so donnie played distraction while they went to catch her one. They saw crustle and went “legs and shell? Fuck yeah turtle pokemon.” when they brought it donnie immediately was like “thats a crab.” but april was so touched she refused to let them try again and she cherishes it so much

Zoura: its mayhem. little chaos fox/animal. always on her shoulders/in her arms/pranking the bros

Solosis: she thinks its cute (raph agrees) but she has to keep it in its ball when shes around donnie bc the texture makes him very upset

Fletchinder: she gives me bird vibes idk and shes passionate (firey).

Skitty: april deserves a cute lil kitty i think. it pretends to be nice but is also means to the boys behind aprils back (aprils pretends not to notice and plays innoncent when the bros confront her but when they leave she gives the skitty a poffin)

Noivern: one donnie actually caught for her (as a noibat) bc it was purple (and he obvs likes purple) and it flies so she could travel far easily and safely. april and donnie are besties and they are the only two the noivern let ride on its back, everyone else it will only carry them in its claws

Casey:

Tirtouga: future donnie made/revived him, and gave him to casey. Casey is a Part of their Turtle Family. Also hes from 100 million years ago, casey is from future. Theyre both lost in time. Idk its cute

Mimiku: it gives me future vibes. It now uses the pikachu disguise to be more intimidating than its form beneath the disguise (due to the electricity). I think also the future has a poison variation that makes it dangerous to touch if it doesnt trust you

Porygon-Z: i really dont wanna say why he has the evolved form of donnies pokemon. But i think yall kno. yes its sad. and yes its weird when they go back in time and see each other. but i think the circumstances that made it evolve to porygon-z are Apocolypse-Only so donnies wont go past porygon2 and make it Extra Weird

Trubbish: a trash pokemon from his apocalyptic future. theyre everywhere. casey loves him and is very defensive of him when he first gets to the past/present, bc new york looks so clean in comparison to the future (when he finally sees all the trubbish there bc its a city hes happy bc his trubbish isnt an outlier)

Amaura: future leo gave him the egg, and he was carrying it around for a while. It only hatched in the past (bc it felt safe enough to do it). yes casey cried. yes he named it after leo (subtly) (it isnt that subtle. probably nicknamed it like Ardo or something).

Applin: the first pokemon he caught in the past/present. He was so surprised to see such a vibrant grass type and he got so excited (grass type are very very rare in the future)

Mikey did the classic Pokemon Magic (thats esp common in the movies) and summoned dialga to send casey back in time. Leo helped by summoning palkia to send him to the right Space. Giratina is there for idk the kraang prison dimension. I havent formulated a lot of it this is just for funsies.

pokebonkus' pokemon time,

thisll be a long ass post so buckle in babes

First off is Cirus, my lucario, male. hes my absolute baby, my unit of a man, hes about 4' something and hes an absolute dumbass <3 he likes to snuggle and if i dont give him enough attention hell shove his snoot under my arm to get pettins. hes my first pokemon and i got him as a riolu

Sylveon, male - who im slowly giving the new nickname Snorple! - is a little bastard, but i adore him to no end. sometimes hell stand over my chest and stare down at me like hes plotting my ultimate demise. he also occasionally just palps people with his ribbons and its kinda funny cuz ill be minding my own business and suddenly my face is palped by soft fuzzy tentacles. Did you know theyre carnivores?

Manchester, a little male wooper i got from my brother (he got him from a random pokemon trade), is just a funky little dude. he sometimes just. gums on my hand. which is really weird but also cute. they have small teeth so his chompins dont hurt *too* much unless he gets too excited

Theres FEESH, who's a male clodsire (also from my brother). hes basically bonded with manchester and parents him. its super cute because hell let manchester bite on his little stumpy leggies and its so sweet, theyre also almost always cuddling

Geebole, my female garchomp, is basically my #1 pokemon, her and cirus come with me everywhere, and were working on getting both of them registered as service pokemon! theyre wonderful, and thankfully geebole has sand veil instead of rough skin so shes easier to pet! i got her as a baby gibble too <3 hence her name lol

Psybeam, male dusk lycanroc. i caught him as a regular ol'e rockruff, and as he got older he got a bit more aggresive and bitey. i was expecting him to end up evolving one night, but no! he evolved at like. 5pm on a tuesday and now hes my lovely orange baby! hes named after the move he apparently knows, psybeam, which i didnt know rockruffs could learn!

Hydreigon, they dont respond to any gendered term so i call them Big Bastard. still unnamed other than that, lol. took a lot of training and a lot of repairs to my parents house to get them to not be so bitey and destructive as a hydreigon, but thats why i started working with them early as a deino! honestly at this point theyre fairly sweet, despite the species reputation. theyre a bit tempermental though, and i have to make sure i have PLENTY of chew toys and things they can tear appart else they'll use my matress or something instead. i dont want to have to replace the tv again 😔

skeeby, female arcanine. fun fact, her tera is rock, which is kinda cool! i dont remember how i learned this, lmao. but anyway, when i caught her, she was a growlithe and she deadass attacked me the second i made eye contact. immediately ran and full blown tackled me before i could react lmao, but hey now shes my big ole warm ass cuddlebug! shes a fucking space heater and i love cuddling her on cold winters

Beef Jerky, female volcarona. not a whole lot to say about her, she has -3 braincells but keeps me nice and toasty :) shes also very good at scaring the shit out of me because she learned how to play dead (thank my brother...) and so shell occasionally just Do That with minimal prompting and ill walk out of my room and have a heart attack cause shes on the floor upside down. fucking bastard bug (beloved)

Minior!! Literally JUST got them (as of editing the post), they are so ROUND and shaped and YELLOW!!!!!! god my little beloved right here. not much is known about them yet, but i got them from @teambloodmoonofficial :)

So I just finished Pokemon Violet and I have some thoughts about it and I'm very surprised but I actually want to put a spoiler warning in, SV has moments that are good enough that I want anyone who hasn't seen it to encounter it by themselves first, so I'm putting it under a cut.

I think I want to go through everything in the order you encounter it so first on the list is the game itself, the main problems with the game are graphics and performance issues, obviously I can't know the exact inside information of how the game was made but it does really come across that the pokemon company rushed and overworked the staff. But because of that I think gamefreak prioritised what they were working on to do a good job at what they thought was important. The terrain textures are very basic and look like they came from a much older game, but the textures on the pokemon and human characters are really good, for example, steel type pokemon actually look metallic and you can see scale details on lizard and snake pokemon. Similar with animations, npcs who walk arround town are very basic but the cutscenes are really well made.

The glitches and performance issues are definately worse, I got very lucky that I only had two major glitches while I was playing and a few minor things like lighting messing up when opening menus, I know that some people have run into a lot more issues than that. These issues definately come down to the studio being rushed and not having enough time to properly play test and bug fix.

But now for the Gameplay itself, I'm going to go through the stories in order of the characters you meet, so starting off with "Victory Road", the name itself is great since victory road is an actuall place you have to get through to reach the elite 4 in other pokemon games. The gym trial is fairly standard to other pokemon games, but the gyms have pretty interesting challenges, more similar to the alola trials and galars mini games. The gyms don't level scale so there is a recommended order to do them, but you can definitely get away with doing some in different orders. The best part of the gyms is absolutely the difficulty, the early gyms are more or less a pushover, but later gyms can be pretty tricky. The most fun gym for me was Larry's normal type gym, his first two pokemon were fairly easy for fighting types to knock out, but his final pokemon was a Staraptor that changes to be pure normal type, it's only weakness is fighting type but it can easily defend itself using areal ace, and trying to weaken it with status moves will massively boost its facade attack. And while I'm on the topic of Larry, the gym leaders are very memorable, I managed to go in completely blind, so when I reached Larry's gym I expected it to be a chef, then a tired, middle aged man in a suit showed up, and his animations are fun as well, when he throws a pokeball he's fluid and loose in his movement but then snaps back to stans rigid and be more professional looking.

After the gym trial you can head to the elite 4, which is pretty interestingly done, first you have to take an interview from the woman of my dreams first elite 4 member before you can battle, one of the questions completely threw me for a loop later in the elite 4, Rika asks you which gym you found most difficult, I decided to answer as accurately as possible and stopped to Google which town Larry's gym was in as he was the only gym leader I had actually lost to. After the interview its an elite 4 back to back battle more similar to older games where you have to beat them in a specific order rather than getting a choice, it's also very fun that you can meet all of them before reaching this point, especially since I did manage to guess what type Hassel would be using since I met his "Proffesor Gibble" by attending his art classes. But back to the interview question that threw me off, I told them that the gym leader I found most difficult was Larry, so when Larry gets called in as the 3rd battle I was completely blown away, for that part of the fight I fully thought that Larry wasn't satisfied with how he beat me the first time and was back for more, although it turns out it's always Larry and that was just a coincidence that massively boosted my experience in that part of the game, I also almost lost that fight by putting a fighting type pokemon out front and almost losing my mind when Larry said that he would be using flying types for this battle.

My only real complaint about the Victory Road story is the final battle against Nemona, you get a list of places that could be good battle fields for your first battle as equal ranked trainers, the list being: the first place that I had a pokemon battle against Nemona, the gym where I lost a battle for the first time, or the middle of town that Nemona mentioned in a cutscene at one point, it makes sense since she did say that battling there was a big deal since it drew a crowd, but the other two "wrong" choices where places that I felt I had a more personal connection to.

So onto the next part, the next character you meet is Arven as he invites you to join him on the "Path of Legends", battling a giant boss pokemon then getting a phase 2 where it powers up and Arven helps you in a double battle is pretty fun. The best part of this path is the story, you find in a cutscene that Arven is keeping a secret from you and later on he explains that the reason he wants to find mystic healing herbs is because his pokemon got injured, and even the pokemon centre hasn't been able to help it recover, I teared up a lot during the missions seeing Arven get so excited whenever Mabosstiff makes even a little bit of recovery and in the final cutscene where Mabosstiff stands up and Arven falls while rushing over and then scrambles on his knees to get to his best friend who has just recovered. The final battle against Arven was also really good, seeing the pokemon he helped you battle with against you was a great way of tying the whole story together, and then his final pokemon being Mabosstiff, who went from not being able to stand and needing to be hand fed, to almost sweeping my team was a great moment.

The third path was "Starfall street", I think that Starfall street's main gameplay is probably the weakest of the 3, raiding the base using a team of pokemon out at the same time is a fun concept, but in my experience it mostly came down to running while pressing the R button every now and then. The battle against the Team Star bosses was much better though, having a battle on top of this parade float and then a boss battle against the car itself was really fun, especially since each of the team star bosses had a custom car that had unique typing and abilities. The story was also pretty good, learning how team star came to be and that Penny wanted you to shut them down because she was afraid of her friends getting expelled from school. I also really love the characters, the star bosses are a bunch of artists and people with weird interests who came together because they were being bullied, and as a person who's queer and autistic and went to school, their story was relatable, and had a lot of wish fulfilment with the victims of bullying unionising so effectively that every bully in the school drops out. The final battle against Penny is probably the weakest of the 3 final battles, Nemona battles you multiple times so you see her team grow along side yours, Arven catches his pokemon while he's journeying with you and now you get to see him at the end of his journey at his strongest, Penny has a full team of Eevee's evolutions, it's like her back pack, that's cool I guess.

The final chapter of the story is "The Way Home" Arven's story ends with the professor telling him to put a team together and bring you down to the mysterious area at the bottom of the crater, I played Violet so this was his dad, Professor Turo. You meet up with Penny, Nemona and Arven to travel to the zero area, once you reach the bottom your ride pokemon is scared and won't come out of the pokeball anymore so you're forced to walk, which mainly means that you can't jump over a railing and skip all the way to the bottom, but during this time you walk with the others as they talk, having the dialogue passively appear and getting to see characters that have become your friends get to know eachother is really nice. I'm going to skip the majority of what happens since it's mainly walking with a few battles and conversations, when you reach the bottom of the crater you find another of your ride pokemon, and you learn that it is much more aggressive than the pokemon friend you've been traveling with, it's also where you learn the reason that it can't enter its battle form is because it lost badly against this stronger legend and now its afraid of getting in to battles.

The best part of the story is definatly inside the lab, I saw a lot of people saying that there was going to be a twist villain at the end because pokemon has done that 3 times in a row now, but I don't think anyone could have predicted that the twist villain was Arven's dead father using a robot clone of himself to use a time machine to bring pokemon from the distant future, without caring about the ecological damage that could cause. The first battle against AI Turo, he warns you about the self defence protocall, and I was expecting it to just be a battle in this cool room, but then the platform raises up and the time machine activates and it's so much better than I was expecting it to be, both the concept of the battle as well as getting to see all of the future forms of pokemon, I took two attempts at this battle, the first time I got destroyed so badly that I put the game down, drank a glass of water and stared at the kitchen wall for a while, I was only 5 levels lower but I got completely annihilated. The second attempt went much better. Part 2 of the battle is brilliant as well, your friends catch up and Arven learns what happened to his father, Turo's text boxes having the wrong characters in like numbers instead of letters and the AI copy having a moment with the original's son, then him realising that its not over yet and being taken over again, the loudspeaker warning saying that all pokeballs not registered to the professors will be locked, then the "AI Turo challenges you to a battle" before the text glitches out and changes to "AI Turo has no intention of fighting anymore" for just a moment before it becomes "You are challenged by the paradise protection protocol" then him sending out that more aggressive version of the legendary, you throw out your pokemon and the ball bounces uselessly against the floor, you have the normal battle menu but "you can't battle without a pokemon" then the realisation that you have a pokeball registered to professor Turo, you have the legendary, you send it out and it sees the pokemon that had hurt it in the past, it looks back at you then transforms into its true battle form, but even then its still not strong enough, until you realise that you still have the terastal orb, it changes into a dragon type meaning it's tera blast attack is now super effective, and because of the journey that the two of you had together, because you are there to help it just as much as it has helped you, it overcomes the challenge and the two of you save the region.

This part of the story sets itself up really well, before becoming an incredible set of final battles, the game definately has shortcomings, and I really wish that workers in the game industry got treated better, if they had more time and better conditions this would have easily been both the best pokemon game, and one of the best games on the switch, even though the game is glitchy and has a lot of areas that look very rough, you can tell how much love the studio has for this franchise, and despite the limitations they put a lot of that love in to this game.

And then in the credits there's an Ed Sheeran song 0/10 worst game ever.

Week 3: Ravenwood Long-Pigs vs Florida Men

Pluck just ‘ain’t enough!

In the pre-match briefing the coaching staff used the predictions from Goblin Gambling as a motivational tool to inspire the Long-Pigs players. “We are facing a solid, if a bit scaly outfit in the Florida Lizardmen, on paper they are bigger and stronger than us, with thicker armour and a big guy with sharp teeth but we have a slight numerical advantage and the edge on pace. We will have to bring our skills from the practice field to bear if we are to cause an upset here. Our secret weapon for this game is unconventional catcher Tomas Hawken, he loves getting stuck in to contact and is and the pace and mentality to take on any on the Florida Roster.”

Having re-worked defensive formations special for the game and signed Blitzer Dolph Xandersson the night before the game to add a little bulk the the lightweight human team, the Long-Pigs were delighted to win the toss and elected to kick off.

Halfling Tin Pot Buffet-Runner kicked the ball deep, behind a formidable line of greater lizards. After some aggressive blocking by the Sauri, two humans were down with Ivan ‘sick note’ Schulz pushed around and only upright because of his intense contact training on the blocking sled. The ball was recovered neatly and a lightweight cage formed behind the scales screen.

Rather than engage the wall of scales head on, a brace of players swept round either flank of the wall to harrass the lighter Skink and Chameleon Players and force them to fight or flee. Gaspedal worked his way in to cover the ball carrier while Hawken and Rache dropped back so as not to be out paced should the skinks break from their protective screen. A few blocks were thrown but only where the odds favoured the home team.

One of the caging skinks fell to injury but Gaspedal’s threat was neutralised by star saurus Frox and the cage reformed to the visitors left, this time with Sauri and Kroxigor forming the pillars. Bold skink sss cut up the open channel and into scoring range, with thrower Rache in hot pursuit.

The saurus blocker duo Zitz and Learherhead, standing shoulder to shoulder presented quite a puzzle for the Long-Pigs blitzers. They had been isolated from the cage which weakened it considerably, but the humans could not afford to commit three players per saurus as they needed to prevent the ball advancing upfield and stop any scoring threats. Gaspedal continued to threaten, being knocked down time and again for his trouble and Rache embarked on a personal quest to beat Chupathingy into the ground. The with minor casualties on both side, stalemate was broken when a brutal blow from Long-Pigs captain Kurgan von Bismarck sent Leatherhead off the field for treatment freeing up enough manpower to surround the cage and take the ball. Sensing the inevitable onslaught, Chupathingy dodged into the end zone and chameleon Gibbles darted free to close the gap and pass for the score.

The roar of the home crowd and the mountain breeze conspired to spoil the pass which drifted in field in front of Rache. With receivers able to take the ball out of reach of all Florida players and no one to interfere with a go ahead end to end touchdown in front of the home fans, Rache fumbled the pickup, the first of several handling errors from the Long-Pigs thrower. A block later saw Rache knocked back and the chameleon recovering the ball and passing to open the Florida account 0:1 at the second attempt.

The Bloodweiser-infused recovery buffet saw all the home players available to play while the Lizardmen were fielding a reduced team. Having squandered the chance to take the lead, it was important for the Long-Pigs to get on the scoreboard while trying to reduce the effectiveness of the Florida Men for the second half. The humans went about flattening the three-man front line while sending three receivers down field, the two extra players were held back to protect Rache (or protect the ball)

The Lizards responded by knocking out Beck and flanking the other two receivers to counter the scoring threat. With some solid blocking and a big hit from Hawken to remove the coverage for top scorer Johan Blitzen who gathered the long pass and sped over the line with time left for either team to score again. 1:1

Another restart although this time one more of the skinks had recovered, reducing the deficit. The Long-Pigs used the same defensive formation that had served them so well earlier in the half and the Lizards set up a front-heavy strategy to drive forward immediately.

Baron Shadenfreude’s kick fell short and the instinctive chameleons reacted while the ball was in the air, immediately scampering across the backfield to hand the ball to the swifter skink Chupathingy who burst forward behind a blitzing saurus.

Not wanting to leave anything to chance, the home side prepared a counter attack and surrounded the ball carrier before big hitting Rufus Zerg-Jaegar smashed the skink from his feet and into the apothecaries tent. The ball bouncing neatly to Tin Pot, ready to spearhead the counter attack.

Seeking revenge for the loss of Chupathingy, Karma and Frox combined to hit the poor halfling so hard that it split his trademark helmet in half ending his short life with the ball bouncing to Karma. Simultaneously the front line exploded knocking out another halfling and Kroxigor Spikeyboi seriously injuring von Bismarck. Unable to regain the lead, the lizards closed in on every available opposing player.

Flying back from his advanced position, Amadeus Beck and Zwerg-Jaeger put Frox down to open a line for Tomas Hawken to blast Karma from his feet with the ball bobbling in field. As the half came to a close, Rache had to evade the two Sauri flanking him, gather the ball and launch a pass to one of the receiver, he fell at the first hurdle and the half finished 1:1.

The second half saw the humans empty the bench with all available players taking the field against a depleted seven lizardmen. The ball was kicked deep and some timekeeping anomaly reduced the second half game time. After some tame blocking, Blitzen made a move forwards with Rache and Hawken dropping back but again fumbling the ball. The visitors dropped into a zone defence with one saurus advancing to sack Rache.

With Gaspedal free and Blitzen in scoring range, Rache gathered the ball at the second attempt and traversed the field, only to miss throw the pass which flew out of his hand and handed behind him, close to the Long-Pigs goal line leaving the rest of the team flat footed and dangerously close to their scaly opposition.

The covering saurus closed on the ball with chameleons Karma and Gibbles breaking from coverage to advance on the ball while the remaining players hit their nearest opposition player, knocking several down and injuring Stefan Gunderson. Beck and Hawken combined to relieve the pressure on the ball and Rache barely managed to evade the incoming players to recover the ball and position himself deep with dump off options either side. A sea of scales descended, knocking Rache to his back (not before he flicked the ball to Tomas Hawken) and surrounding ball carrier and nearby support players.

Some agility from Shadenfreude and Beck set up Dolph Xandersson to clear a way for Hawken to dodge free and take the ball out of range of the lizards, but he stumbled leaving the ball on the floor and stunning himself on the Astrogranite. The Sauri cleared Dolph of the ball and Karma scooped up the ball to take the lead 2:1.

With time against them, the Long-Pigs set up to try and score quickly to draw level and to hope for a miracle in order to win. Tying up potential defenders with Rache passing early to Blitzen who cut upfield to assist with a block taking the ball into an advanced position. The Kroxigor cut a gap for Zits to plant a bell-ringing sack on Blitzen whose last action before being taken off the field was to lay the ball down out of easy reach of any of the defending players. Rache gathered the ball and handed it to Amadeus Beck who ran clear to bring the game back level at 2:2.

Almost all knocked out players recovered on both sides as everyone wanted to make the difference between winning and losing. The Long-Pigs split their team with some angling to deny the Florida team any scoring opportunity and others hoping to recover the onside kick.

The Florida Men wanted it more and burst forward as the ball was kicked with the kroxigor and sauri arcing round to screen block the defenders and create a running channel for Gibbles, the intended scorer, Karma secured the ball but the effort of closing the gap to pass meant the ball did not reach its intended receiver.

With no time left to score and the only opposing player in scoring range Spikeyboi the Kroxigor, Baron Shadenfreude called the players in and with several assists, the angry halfling pitched the crocodilian beast into the crowd.

Despite beating the spread to earn a draw against a stronger team, the Long-Pigs players were disappointed not to win. The hope is that the fans will not turn on Rache who was nominated man of the match, it is hoped that this will boost his confidence for future games.

With the captain out for the next week, the debate has begun for who should replace him in week four. The Baron has been vocal in pushing his own candidacy but it is more likely to be Anders Gaspedal, cool in contact and willing to put himself on the line, rookie thrower Rache has some of the attributes required, but he probably needs to focus on his own performance.
