I checked out chatGPT and asked it to give me a short, romantic between Naru and Mai and TO KEEP IT IN CHARACTER. This is it's attempt.

Mai had been crushing on Naru for a while now, but she never had the courage to tell him how she felt. One day, while they were investigating a haunted mansion, Mai wrote down her feelings for Naru on a piece of paper with a pencil, thinking that he would never see it. (Note: Okay, I see where it's going...)

Later that night, when they were all back in the hotel, Mai realized that she had accidentally dropped the paper with her confession on the floor. As she was about to pick it up, Naru reached down and picked it up for her (Note: not too in character, but I'll allow it.)

Mai's heart skipped a beat as she realized that Naru had read her note.

Feeling embarrassed and vulnerable, Mai tried to take the paper from Naru, but he held onto it and looked at her with a serious expression.

"Mai, I had no idea that you felt this way," he said. (Note: ok ok good so far!)

"But I want you to know that I feel the same way about you."

Mai's eyes widened in shock and delight as Naru took her hand and placed the pencil in it. (Note: oh.)

"Write me a note back," he said. "Tell me everything you've ever wanted to say to me." (Note: O∆O)

With shaking hands, Mai took the pencil and began to write. She poured her heart out onto the paper, telling Naru everything she had ever wanted to say to him, but never had the courage to.

When she was finished, she handed the note back to Naru, who read it with a soft smile on his face.

"Mai," he said, "I promise you that I will always be there for you, no matter what. You are the most important person in my life, and I love you more than words can say."

Mai felt tears of joy welling up in her eyes as Naru pulled her into a tender embrace, holding her close and whispering sweet nothings in her ear.

From that moment on, Naru and Mai knew that their love was meant to be, and they never looked back.

Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding, it’s been a busy week! So glad to hear I convinced someone to watch Ghost Hunt, I always assumed most people that follow me probably have the tag blocked by now! 😆 Even better to hear you enjoyed it!

Okay, so I’m actually not the best person to ask about other animes that have a similar vibe because I don’t watch a lot of anime (only because I don’t make the time for it) so I consulted my brother, who *does* watch a lot of anime.

He said an anime that reminded him of Ghost Hunt in vibes was called “In/Spectre”. Super short description was it’s about a girl who gains the skills to speak to the spirit world, becoming a ‘Goddess of Wisdom’, who joins up with a guy who has strong links to the spirit world to assist her on her adventures. (Don’t trust my paraphrasing, he did a better job of explaining it.) He did admit that one of the arcs stretched on a bit long and he has not watched the second season, but does plan on returning to it eventually.

And what I can recommend personally is two Korean dramas that reminded me of Ghost Hunt:

“Sell Your Haunted House” is about a exorcist, who runs a realty business that solely deals in haunted houses, who teams up with a conman when she realizes he has skills as a medium. The dynamic is switched here from Ghost Hunt: she is the cold stoic one and he is the bright charismatic one.

And “The Master’s Sun”, is about a girl who can see ghosts who run her ragged until she meets a man that when she touches him, the ghosts all disappear. So she decides to stick with him: unfortunately for her, he is a closed off person who is completely done with people after a traumatic experience in his past.
