4, 7, 10 for the fic ask? :)
Thanks for the ask! Let's do this!
4. what fic of your own do you read for comfort?
Quite a lot of them, actually! Sometimes a person commenting on one will make me go back to read, or sometimes I'll just... go and read 😅 If I had to point at any one of them, I'd go with Flying, I think.
7. how does receiving or not receiving feedback/support impact you?
Okay, so first of all I gotta say that I don't post a fic until it's finished. Even And Now You, that novel-length enormity. I did that once (with the Halloween fi, started posting when the ending wasn't fully finished, and it stressed me out so much that I'll never do that again. 😅 So, feedback, comments and all that don't have impact on if I finish the story or not. Even with one-shots I usually say in the author's note if I have any intent to pursue the idea or not, so not much impact there too.
However!
Continuing the story isn't the only impact, right? I do love receiving comments and other kinds of feedback, here and on AO3. My favorite is when people say my fic was comfort for them, or made them feel happy. That is something that I often seek out when I read (and write!, see next question), and so hearing that my stories are that to other people is lovely, lovely, lovely. So please, dear reader, (continue to) leave your comments; they make me very happy.
10. how has writing positively impacted your mental health or overall mood?
I gotta come back to And Now You for this one; I started writing it early into the pandemic (it was inspired by The Half of It, which came out in April 2020), and it truly helped me cope to throw myself into the story of high school age Helena and Myka, and ignore the chaos that the world descended into. Writing (even now, and regardless of the story) is absolutely escapism for me, into a world that makes sense, that I rule over, that is filled with love and understanding and people being kind to each other. I like it there 😊 Also, when a sentence or paragraph or idea turns out just so good? Lovely boost to my self-esteem!
Thanks for asking! That was fun!
If anyone else wants a go, here's the link to the asks!

Hello, my friend! For the Get to know your author game: 3, 7 and 22? Thank you :)
*hugs!*
:D :D :D
Tumblr media
3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
I tend to write in chronological order, at least when I’m getting the main ‘here’s what happened!’ Stuff out onto the page when I brainstorm the fic.
When I’m doing the revisions - or as I like to think of it, I get to add ANYTHING I WANT stage - I’ll check to see how the pacing of the story is, and if certain bits need moving around to help scenes move along more smoothly! :D
Tumblr media
7) when asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
It all depends on the person who is asking! :-) I used to be more embarrassed, but lately I’ve felt more comfortable saying “Yeah, I write. It’s fun.” It’s when they ask me ‘what about’ that I can get…a little awkward, but I do get to pick which answer I give them! Though funnily enough I’m /way/ more comfortable telling them that I’m writing about how I’m living with C=PTSD than I am that I write whump for fun. Know your audience, I guess, lol
Tumblr media
22) are there any subjects that make you uncomfortable to write?
I tend to veer away from writing straight-up sexual assault content. It’s - um, triggering, given my childhood. (I literally locked away knowledge of several bad life events in the mental equivalent of a closet for about two decades - boy howdy did that door come crashing down back in 2017) - but on the plus side, I’ve gotten a lot of practice in harnessing emotions! Put simply, whenever things get rough, I channel this moment:

another non-surprise, but I always get hit by the feels when one character just loses the ability to keep up their barriers anymore. They're exhausted, they're overwhelmed, they can't do it anymore. And the person they trust is right there to hold them through it, to help them solve the problem, to get them to their feet when they're ready, and helps them try again. That's the A+++ feels
i am awaiting permission from someone i am working on a collab with to reveal their identity, but i didn't want to leave you waiting any longer, so. There's a WIP with somebody. It's coming to a computer near you sometime in the future (distant? not-so-distant? who the hell knows, haha). In the meantime the main WIP is only little. New chapters coming to you hopefully soon. :D

And
13) your strengths as an author
💜
Thank you @justapurrcat 🙏🏾😘
I think it depends on my mood. Sometimes I’ll write an important part first and build around that and then sometimes I’ll write from front of the book to the back.
My strengths are my imagination. Being able to see everything play out in my head and being able to give detail to it used to be hard but I’m finding it easier to do these days.
Thank you ☺️

So, just curious how many writers and creators will have to be forcibly outed by relentless harassment before we acknowledge that "This queer characters was written by a cishet person and that's why they're bad" is not good criticism.

7) for the ask game :)
Hi! 🖤
7) when asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
A bit of both. I'm an introvert, so on the inside, I got really enthusiastic and on the outside, I feel very embarrassed. Not a lot of persons know that I write. I prefer to keep it to myself most of the time, because I feel like writing is something personal. It depends also in the person who's asking to be honest, but in general I'm ambivalent about it.

1, 17 and 22 💚
1) is there a story you're holding off on writing for some reason?
No, none that I can think of - but... I don't know if that counts, but I have a WHIP sitting in my word docs folder since, uhh, 3 years, which is halfway completed. I'm afraid I'm never going to finish it... 😅
17) if you could give your fledgling author self any advice, what would it be?
I would tell my fledgling author self to never give up on writing. To keep practicing. To try different things and POV's. But especially, I would tell her to not force herself to write anything she's not comfortable with or for a character she has lost inspiration for. Forcing yourself only leads to bad writing and frustration. 😊
22) are there any subjects that make you uncomfortable to write?
Yes. I think smut is the subject that makes me the most uncomfortable. I can write very suggestive smut and super hot and steamy things, but I could never write it explicitly and in detail. 🙈

Get to know your author-ask game
1)  is there a story you’re holding off on writing for some reason?
No, at least not that I know of.  Last time was a few years ago. I held out during Nano for so long b/c I didn’t want to write about my now ex. But eventually 20k of really dark things spilled out.  Fun times.
3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
I start with a scene or a character or a vibe and I just write. Sometimes it’s a  beginning, sometimes it an ending. I work from there and eventually fit everything together.
4) favorite character you’ve written
Usually the ones I’m currently writing are my favorite. But also there are so many blorbos. And so many that I don’t remember. Joe and Nate will always hold a special place in my heart. Along with Erin and Jen. They were my first characters I really worked with and developed. The story is 10+ years old and has a lot of good and bad memories associated with it. But Noe and Jerin will always hold places in my heart.
5) character you were most surprised to end up writing
I don’t know? I can’t say I’ve ever been surprised by a character. Their choices yea.  But not the character.
8) favorite genre to write
Queer in whatever- genre- the- characters- tell -me -to- write.  I didn’t write fantasy/scifi for the longest time. I was reading a lot of books of those genres and was like oh I’m stealing abc from xyz. So I wrote a lot of slice of life and explored different queer identities and relationships and family reactions. But mostly I just write whatever genre the characters tell me to.
My favorite story of this is my 2010 nano novel “Every Day, In Every Way, Love Is Beautiful” mentioned above with Noe and Jerin.  That novel was supposed to be a timetravel sci/fi fantasy thing.  I got about 10k in and I was like, huh, I don’t think this is timetravel or fantasy, or scifi.  I then went on to write 50k+ of some really great characters in everyday ordinary life. I just had the characters tell their story.

OK for the AO3 wrapped ask...
3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 20, 28, 29, and 30 please!! 💜
Oh goodness, this is gonna run long! I'll put it under a Readmore!
Thank you for the ask! Here's the list, if anyone wants to ask some other questions!
3: What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
There are several, for several reasons:
I'm proud of my first fic cycle, the Kathryn/Marie stories, because as a first work, they still hold up even now, and they're also a long ass series!
I'm proud of And Now You, for being the longest single fic I've ever written, as well as for how good it turned out
I'm proud of Angel, Sinner, Dragonslayer, and the POV change at the end :D
5: What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
In The Warmth Of Friends, for sure. I hadn't been aware, before that, that kidfic - especially fics in which Christina is saved - are so popular in the fandom!
10: What work was the quickest to write?
I wrote each of the following 5K+ stories within a day. I think in terms of length to time taken, they were the quickest:
Found
Roppongi Tokyo Butler Café
Moscow
11: What work took you the longest to write?
Objectively, And Now You. In terms of how interminable it seemed, That Halloween Story. If I ever get it finished, the Pirate AU will overtake them both.
12: How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
Uhhh... a lot? Half a dozen, I'd say; I honestly don't wanna look.
20: Which work of yours have you reread the most?
Probably Kathryn/Marie because they've been around the longest. I do re-read all of my fics, and have read several of them multiple times. Sometimes I don't want "just" a comfort fic, but my own comfort fic!
28: Favorite work you wrote this year?
That's a tie between The One Where They're Both Assassins because what a wonderful 'verse to play in Lonely-Night created, and A tall ship, and a... ghost to steer her with?!, because how can you not love a fic that came to you in a literal dream?!
29: Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
And then – Myka grinned in expectation as a fireboat approached them from Constable Hook. “Watch this,” she said, and then reveled in Helena’s gasp and full-body startle as the fireboat started spraying water from every single spout. “For her?” Helena said in a choked voice. She turned to Myka, eyes shining and full. “All of this, for my ship?” Myka nodded, unable to bring words out herself in the face of Helena’s joy and pride. She didn’t even mind the possessive pronoun; Moira was Helena’s ship in many ways. This time, not even Pete could stop her; in a flash, Helena was on the bowsprit, holding to a rigging line with one hand and waving her hat with the other, laughing with her head thrown back as the fireboat aimed one of her guns high across Moira’s bow to create a rainbow.
From A tall ship, and a... ghost to steer her with?!
30: Biggest surprise while writing this year?
Realizing I am able to post unfinished stories, or go with "good enough; just post it". I am very much a perfectionist with my writing, and realizing that I don't have to be was very surprising.

I forgot about this.
Tumblr media
The whole reasoning behind the Supervillain Danny AU sketches was that his villain persona was the complete opposite of his normal, sane self and hero persona. Danny plays into the Fenton name really hard, and ramps up the “mad scientist” bit, taking inspiration from both his normal civilian life and his parents, thus using just his last name as a villain.
And then I wanted to add what Sam and Tucker might look like if they joined in on his shenanigans. To keep with the “opposite of their normal life” bit, let’s throw in some ghostly artifacts that help the two keep up with Fenton’s madness.
Sam would get an angel’s halo that helps her form ghostly wings, and she’d play into the good-two shoes angelic look, and then she opens her mouth and verbally assaults you. She pins her bangs back and wears clothes that better fit a celestial aesthetic and uses all the etiquette training her parents taught her. Manson looks like some sort of regal angel and people expect her to be the nicest out of all of them. She’s not. Manson is the sneakiest and most bloodthirsty one, and heroes regularly wonder if she has actually committed murder or not.
Tucker takes inspiration from his time as a pharaoh. He has a metal postiche that enhances his physical ability. (Maybe it gives him dreadlocks too, but I like to think Tucker is just wearing a whole ass wig.) He wears a strange mix of street wear and his pharaoh outfit, and throws his tech-obsessed self out the window. Fenton is the nerdy one here, so now Foley is the muscle. Foley plays up meathead American bully stereotype hard. He delights in throwing hands, and hunts down supers just for the sake of a fun spar. (For him not for the supers.) Foley’s favorite people to fight so far is Killer Croc and Superman. Heroes are concerned about what would happen if Foley fought for real, but then they saw what he did to the Joker “as a joke” and decided not to ask any more questions.
Basically, the trio looked at their civilian lives and picked out what they considered “villainous traits” from the people around them that they then played into as villains themselves. If that makes sense. Sam hates how her parents want a perfect child, so she makes herself look like one. She speaks in backhanded comments and has a snooty attitude, which she learned from other rich people. Tucker is constantly confronted by bullies everyday, and all the rogues that come to Amity are always fighting, so that’s what he decides to mimic. Yeah, he now gets to be the big and strong protector of the group, but all his experience with fighting have been bad ones, and that reflects in his style. And finally, Danny. Why does he take after his parents and play into the family name? Because the Fentons are one of the biggest obstacles and source of anxiety in his life. Danny associates mad scientists to pain and other bad things, so even if all he’s being helpful in a really annoying way as a villain, his parents and the threat of the GIW still influence how he presents himself. Because to Danny, those two things are far more scary than a kid with a pirate ship or a man wearing a bat fursuit.

4, 20, & 25 for author ask game!
Favorite character I’ve written is probably for Killmonger/John mashup story, that was fun lol. Next to that would be a character that I’ve written a loooooong time ago that I’m reintroducing: Na’Harie Toussaint 😉 you’ll see her very soon!
I usually don’t have time to sit down and do long sessions anymore (one day, I hope to do so) but I write when I think of something new to add. When I wasn’t working for a while, I wrote 8 outlines. I’m still working on them, and I think I posted three or four already lol
Here’s one of the imagines I’m working on:
Rue continued to wrap her daughter up in her warm blanket and rock her gently to sleep. She sighed in content at those tiny lips puckering and even tinier fingers grabbing around her index finger. Yn could watch Rue with their daughter all day. Something about seeing her so happy made Yn happy. She watched as Rue kissed the top of their daughter’s curly haired head and rubbed her small back before putting her down in her crib. Yn finished up and brought everything to the kitchen just as Rue followed her out the room. Yn bottled up the milk and put them in the fridge, then cleaned out her pump before sitting it aside to dry. “I wanna carry the next one.”

Somebody tell me if this is a bad take, or if my love for Bruce is causing my objective brain to glitch, but-- something about advertising Batman, a hero who's very popular for being good with children, for being NURTURING with children, a bad father kinda defeats the whole purpose of what he's supposed to represent.
Batman is a protector; He protects people the world (and especially law enforcement) does not care about. That's literally the point of him.
Something about marketing " you can be incredibly violent to people you care about! And Its fine, because you care about them even if you abuse them, and that's what matters!" towards people, but especially men and young boys, is REALLY fucked up to me.

i really hate how the fandom’s excuse for jayfeather’s shitty behavior (and outright medical malpractice in certain cases. looking at the time he refused to help squilf in labour bc he couldnt be bothered and later blamed her for how bad it was) is “well the clan was ableist to him growing up, so fuck them!” ok how does that excuse him screaming at and berating the cats that didnt do any of that. or the babies.

15?
Hi, love! 🖤
15) why did you start writing?
Oh, that's a lovely question.
I started by writing songs and then, at some point, I switched to stories. It's weird that I started writing in the first place because when I was a kid some teacher told me that I sucked at writing. Well, she said more than that but that's for another story.
Anyway, I always had a vivid imagination and I probably lived a thousand life already in my head and I guess, at some point, I had to put it down on paper.
For me, it's a way to express myself and maybe do the things I wouldn't do in life or feel cool, I don't know. There's always, always, always something of me in my stories. Sometimes I don't even realize it when I'm writing, but it's there.
Writing is like giving away a piece of myself at every word, hoping it'll stay with you as long as you need it.
