I've spent a lot of time lurking in fandom spaces before there were fandom spaces, I used to read Farscape fanfic when all we had was geocitities. I've fallen down various fandom black holes over the years but always as a lurker, I wrote fic but always for myself. I didn't work up the nerve to interact with fandom until what? Three years ago? IDK, the whole pandemic thing has played hell on my sense of time.

what I'm saying is, I didn't get up the nerve to write fanfic and share it with the world until I was over 40.

The way fandom treats middle aged women is fucking disgusting and hypocritical. 20 years olds can say the nastiest shit imaginable about (insert middle aged celebrity here), but when an older woman *checks notes* expresses any sort of sexual interest in (insert middle aged celebrity here) oooooh. ewwww. creeper.

And its like, ok, I was not the one on tik-tok saying (insert middle aged celebrity here)'s cum would make good lipgloss. You all want to be his problematically young girlfriend.

And don't get me going about the whole subset of people who think that anyone over 25 in fandom spaces is automatically some sort of creepy groomer. How dare women over 30 write about sexual desire. HOW DARE.

Sorry this turned super ranty. It's good to know that there are people out there who welcome my presence.

You don't cease to exist once you turn 30 or 40 of 50. Once you become a parent you don't cease to be you. I wish people understood this and stopped punishing women for having interests other than fucking child-rearing.

The very impatient part of my brain wants to get into the more complicated coding in the Software Engineer bootcamp....but I'm going to work through all the homework/classes to get my brain refocused on it and remembering everything that I do know.

In today's class, it was brought up that some Software Engineer's said that they got their start on Neopets coding guild forums, etc...and same.

I've build websites from scratch on Neopets, geocites, Myspace, etc...and I remembered how much I loved it and getting everything to work. Like I remember fulling coding everything in a code editor, and uploading all those html files.

Right now, I feel like I'd rather become a Frontend Engineer instead of a Backend Engineer or even a Fullstack Engineer....but we will see as I work through this bootcamp

I remember the geocite websites dedicated to specific characters, I think one was called something like "A bevy of Barry" that was just a list of the dumb shit he did and said in the original game that was super popular. I also remember writing a letter by hand to Capcom and mailing it because that was the only way to get in touch and been made up when they sent one back! I still have it somewhere. I think I have a folder with printouts of old stuff, like text guides, no youtube back then.

You're hearkening back to the days of the Anime Web Turnpike. Those were the days before I really dove into RE fandom proper. My Anipike days were still my DBZ days, primarily. That used to be how I'd spend my time at my dad's apartment when I was like, 9 and 10. Just going to different character shrines and shit.

I still have a handwritten notebook of all the unlockables and boss strategies for FF7. I actually keep it on the shelf of one of my monitor risers because it's still useful when I replay it. I wish I'd done one for RE2, but I didn't, because -- spoilers about me. My brother is 6 years older than me, so back in the day, I watched him play video games most of the time instead of playing them myself. This changed at around the time Devil May Cry came out -- that was about when I started playing for myself, but. He would legit wait until I was done with homework and stuff and wouldn't play without me, and that's how I first experienced RE1 and RE2. The first RE game I actually played was, in fact, 4 OG. So, by the time I actually played RE2 myself, it wasn't worth making a notebook for because guides were way more readily available.

I'd be interested in seeing that letter if you wanna share!!

17. 2024: Live from LA Podfest with Carl Tart and Madeline Walter

Plot summary:

The LAPD from the future reminisces about their terrible security and their enemies after Officer Cardamom stops a man dressed as a dog from stealing a bunch of evidence. Meanwhile, Aardvark Evil Place, a shadow organization, is trying to sell a bunch of cocaine shaped money to the Cat Criminal Cartel. After an hour of meowing the Cat Criminal Cartel does a bunch of cocaine and discusses how Aardvark Evil Place hasn't given them their cocaine money. Their plans get interrupted by them chasing little lights on the wall and sleeping in patches of sunlight. Cardamom is assigned a new partner who's a dog and they bond over their hatred for cats and criminals. At the same time, Cardamom's ex husband is getting a massage, venting about his marriage, and listening to smooth jazz. Cardamom and her new dog partner Scratchington are forced to reunite with Ron and they go to infiltrate the Cat Cartel together. They interrupt their choir practice where they're singing christmas carols. The cats have forgotten about their crimes and therefore cannot be arrested so they leave. There's a lot of discussion about edible arrangements and veterinary school and shadowy criminals. What even is the ending

There's a song about really unhinged edible arrangements and it's fantastic. This episode is really bizarre because I completely forgot it existed and I don't remember listening to it and also on spotify it doesn't have a description or anything so I'm not totally sure what its deal is. Also can someone please tell me if it's geocitities or geocitities?

looking at geocites gives me a sense of dread, a time before I was born, that many people find to be comforting and awesome and expressive, but to me who's grown up on the modern internet that is just social media essentially, it seems so strange and chaotic idk man maybe if I accessed the internet before that part died for a bit I would feel less dread
