Hi it's author anon again and I'm chewing on my desk again
I can't attach images in anon but I just saw a new Ranboo Brand Tumblr answer where someone was praising them for their "...how articulate and smart you are regarding story telling and story/writing analysis..."
And I think I ascended into the 7th circle of hell again because *he* responded, "think of thing in head put thing in head in screen go 'oooooo' Honestly ive got no idea what Im talking about half the time I just say what I think about writing and pray its not a writing sin"
Chat are we seeing this shit. ARE WE SEEING THIS SHIT CHAT.
I'm losing my mind I feel insane. Look I get it I also feel like that meme with Patrick Star with a board nailed to his head you know which one I'm talking about BUT WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME FOR MY WRITING PROCESS I AT LEAST TRY TO ANSWER.
Gods sake bro people look up to you!! They want to be a successful creatorer like you are and they come to you for advice and you give them nothing???????
It doesn't even matter if you use super technical fancy English words to explain it. I don't!! I don't know shit!! But I at least try and explain myself in a way that's understandable because if you can't even explain your own process, you completely eradicate whatever credibility you have!!
If I cannot articulate the way I write, even the most basic level of it, are you really going to trust me to tell you a compelling story?
Anyway I'm insane I'm mad and I'm going to rewrite all of genloss /hj
Till next time
-author anon
Tumblr media
^ the post, for reference
but yeah poor anon was asking a good, genuine question and ranboo just gave them nothing. he doesnt owe his audience anything or whatever but mans chose to respond to this and give nothing. if you didn't want to talk about your writing process then,, don't? if you want to joke about it i feel like it would be like, nice to give even a crumb but. its his post and we're all just looking at it

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Generation Loss. The horror is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the metanarrative most of the terror will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Ranboo's lack of control, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - draws heavily from Jerma's Dollhouse, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these narratives, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who hate Generation Loss truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the terror of Ranboo's cringe PC voice, which itself is a cryptic reference to Resident Evil 4 I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as ARG genius unfolds itself on their screens. What fools… how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Gen Loss tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the boobers' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Did you guys see the GenLoss commercial? Horrible and the Two things that are shown that Ranboo teaser are the assisations with random ass companies. You can do the same with Kinemaster and have it completed in a short amount of time, like about 5 hours or something.

Many U.S. entertainment industry workers have strong concerns about if and how generative AI technology will affect their role, company, industry and broader cultural environment, according to an exclusive Variety Intelligence Platform survey conducted by YouGov. Over a third (36%) of entertainment workers surveyed in late June were “very” or “somewhat concerned” about the impact gen AI will have on their own jobs. For context, respondent awareness of gen AI is high, with 87% at least aware of tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, while two-thirds (65%) claim some knowledge of the technology (explored in depth in the recent VIP+ special report Generative AI & Entertainment). Among generative AI’s possible negative outcomes for the industry, the majority of professionals were either “very” or “somewhat” concerned about IP infringement across copyright, trademark and right of publicity; job losses due to employers’ use of gen AI; and cybersecurity and data privacy.

girl, i forgot if you ever spoke of this but do you think jeno has a chin implant? this is really some g0thjeno shit but since she’s gone, i’ll ask it here :’)
I said it on that account and I’ll say it here too-
I DO NOT THINK HE HAS A CHIN IMPLANT💀
I know that’s a speculation a lot of PS critics have claimed but he’s always had a pronounced chin, side and front. I don’t see why he would make it bigger, and it wasn’t crooked to begin with… so an implant would be unnecessary. can I confirm this is fact? no lmao, I’m not a plastic surgeon nor do I know his or any idols private medical history, it’s all opinion only. other people are allowed to believe what they wish, but imo his chin is natural(based off KR beauty standard, and puberty that fans since debut saw him grow into his features.)
to make it clear though- I do not believe there is any natural kpop idol, there aren’t even natural western artists these days. surgery is extremely normalized in Korea and kpop is all about selling a fraudulent fantasy of perfection, from looks to personas. it seems the last ‘natural’ idols to debut were from 3rd gen- and even so their faces transform in ways over time that is not due to aging.
blaming puberty for someones face shape completely changing, nose bridge growing/straightening, lips plumping out perfectly, and eyes stretching larger/longer is asinine. simple science will teach you that with age our eyes/lips SHRINK and nose/ears grow larger, unless u have had an extreme weight loss of at least 30-40 pds your face and features will not be ‘shrinking’ magically with age. idols aren’t kpop idols bc they aren’t extremely thin to begin with…….with their big man-made fat grafted cheeks and negative healthy BMIs lmao….BUT I DIGRESS. your idols are perfect, NATURALLY GORGEOUS AND STUNNING! just like the Kardashians!
anyway, reminder that no ones ugly, just poor
EXTRA reminder that there is nothing wrong with plastic surgery nor with doing what you need to do to survive existence and battle your insecurities in a way that will not destroy your mental health. the only wrong is lying and promoting a false idea of unattainable perfection to others💚

Another GenLoss thought re: "The Hero"
Okay so this has been bugging me and I couldn't stop thinking about it, it's been creepin' & crawlin' around in my head for the last two weeks.
Awhile back Nathan Hanover posted a bit of "The Hero," from the Gen 1 OST, and he talked about how the track was originally called "The Main Character", but it was changed to the more "thematically appropriate" title "The Hero."
Tumblr media
I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't initially read too much into the term "Hero" being used for GL!Ranboo, and in my head it was basically synonymous with "protagonist". But the above tidbit of info gave me some pause on that and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Why "The Hero" specifically??
In the stream, Hetch refers to the other characters dying on his behalf as part of what makes GL!Ranboo the hero, but I mean, it's Hetch. We can't rule it out as relevant, sure, but we can't fully trust it as being anything more than a taunt either, so I kind of threw that away.
Then the other day I had a shower thought about the Hero's Journey.
At this point, a lot of my corner of the internet knows of Joseph Campbell's theory of the monomyth, and if you're big into storytelling, writing, story structures, human history, myths, etc. you probably know the Hero's Journey story structure by heart at this point. I've certainly used it as a jumping-off point for stories in the past (and to help me when I got stuck). But for those who aren't aware, it'd be too long to get into it on this post so I highly recommend checking out the wikipedia page on the concept. There are some pieces of it that are more gendered than they need to be, but a lot of the story beats are undoubtedly a bit familiar to you if you've ever seen a movie.
While Gen 1 has a ton of hero's journey story beats (most are in common between a majority of "hero faces a challenge and overcomes it" stories in the western world, tbh), a lot of Gen 1 does NOT seem to follow this journey, so my shower thought was like "Eh, maybe? ...nah" and then I thought about it some more, and remembered one VITAL aspect of the hero's journey: the freaking LOOP.
Graphically/visually, the hero's journey is almost always depicted as a cycle because it has the hero starting at one "normal" and then returning home having carried what they learned forward into a new "normal." The Hero leaves one person, and then comes home as another. I think this fits a lot of the fandom's theories about Gen 1, and fits in with my theory about Gen 1's entire universe being on a VHS tape that gets replayed & re-recorded over and over.
That's why GL!Ranboo is "The Hero," not because he's an actual heroic figure, but because he leaves his origin point and then returns changed over and over again, slightly different each time it happens. Y'know, like how generation loss works, except hat generation loss is a negative effect, a degradation in quality over time, and the hero's journey is typically presented as a positive, being an augmentation of the hero's knowledge, skills, and experience.
Kinda makes you (over)think...

Funny story: my system was having a really rough time that none of us could cope with and during it, we saw dslur-crossing's ranboo gen loss neg posts which made us look through his blog and also the gen loss tags. Anyways now I'm a fucking introject of tumblr user dslur-crossing and I look like fucking Gen Loss Ranboo. I do not like Ranboo at all. My system does. Gen Loss in general also annoys me. This is like actual torture. I'm sharing this with you because you'd probably find it funny. I'm in pain. This is my limbo. I am losing my mind.

Tubbo was live on his alt talking about his experiences with coming out and figuring out his identity, as well as his memories of techno and how he’s dealing with grief. And I’m not joking hundreds of boobers came into his chat to start spamming about gen loss. Then they got pissy with him when he told them to read the room and not spam during serious or potentially triggering discussions.
oh my fucking god what the fuck that's horrible???? tubbo literally never talks about this kind of stuff and we all know he has difficulties facing complex negative emotions, so for him to be comfortable and knowledgeable enough to talk about this stuff ON STREAM is an incredible fucking accomplishment compared to tubbo a year ago. my blood is fucking BOILING rn. i hope tubbo unblocks ranboo just to send him a dm like "control your fucking fanbase" or something

thank you for this blog im boutta post a lot of my suffering in here enjoy the essay
I’m not a ranboo fan at all, i just heard about a cool horror project from a name i’m familiar with and i was excitedly waiting for perhaps a new kid on the block with cool content and the resources to do so. I’ve seen what people with three coins and a piece of lint can do out of passion, and so i expected that someone that has far more resources out of the gate would be able to really take it out of the park if they were equally as passionate. I’ll just grab a couple of points and elaborate.
Intentionally bad.
This is the poorest excuse for low quality content I’ve heard. Not a single self-respecting creative that actually cares about their project would make something ACTUALLY bad. Anytime you see something that’s intentionally bad and yet somehow beloved, look DEEPER. Because behind that veil of “bad” is actually often a HUGE amount of effort and care put into something a creator cared about.
Intentionally bad content is still made with the intention to be fun to watch, to be entertaining. There is very little entertainment found in any of the genloss bad content.
Lack of horror content
The main excuses i’ve seen is that they were scared of Twitch TOS, to which I say lolwhat. You had two whole years to contact twitch and talk it out with them and figure out what part of your project and show would fly and what wouldn’t, and instead you opted to really cut out any horror aspect at all for fear of being banned on twitch? And even then, content more gorey and disturbing than this is allowed on twitch. If Until Dawn flies on twitch, I think gen loss could have gone wilder.
And if they REALLY didn’t want to risk it, for the love of god at least be creative with your attempts to circumvent it? The goofy poor editing of the red in ep2 during the surgery sequence took me out of it entirely and confused me so much. You know what they could’ve done? TURNED THE LIGHTING A STARK RED. THAT’S IT. THE MOST BASIC THING, TO AT LEAST REALLY GET ACROSS THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG.
The acting
I was a theatre kid in highschool and let me tell you even the 13 year olds acted with more passion and devotion to the role than 95% of the cast in gen loss. Even during improv. You can tell that there is basically no script to gen loss and that its purely “X will happen then Y will happen and we need to fill it with conversation and improv” with zero direction on tone or anything. It was so painful seeing how little effort had gone into the acting. Ranboo can’t act for shit and should have gone through some acting classes before taking on a live show. The only ones that were visibly trying were charlie and jerma and the people who were frozen robots during ep3 (because as someone who had to stay frozen in pose hours on end for a play while on-stage, that shit is HARD)
Hetch’s acting was even more laughable, and his fakeout death was… something. An incredibly cartoonish “uguguhh” exiting his mouth- really? Also It was so frustrating to have his voice come from seemingly nowhere. There was no source to his voice.
It sucked so much seeing ranboo actually TRY to be better in his acting in episode 3 because when he suddenly started being intense it felt WRONG and out of character, because there was no natural leadup to him being like that. ep 1 and 2 were so bad that even when ep 3 was better it felt disappointing.
Lighting
Its already been mentioned by film student anon that the lighting is such a huge amateur mistake but I want to touch upon the creative aspect of the lighting a little more.
There was such an utter lack of using colored lighting to really set tones in scenes and it SUCKED. Like, already with the lack of outright horror blood and gore, they NEEDED creative lighting to at least intensify scenes! Add some damn flickering lights! Green lighting? Something- anything. Again, TEENAGERS have been more creative with lighting in a performance and all they had was four colors to work with and nothing fancy.
Camerawork
I wish they would have actually done good camera work. Set up some cameras in locations and acted in front of them instead of having someone follow ranboo around and having some “lore” explanation for it that makes little sense. Having moving cameras that are shaky and constantly cutting people frame-wise is just not pleasant to watch and does not add anything useful. On top of the camera quality jarringly changing between shots constantly it just… ruined the flow.
in ep3, we had an explanation for why there’s a camera following ranboo, and we got some REALLY COOL ESTABLISHING SHOTS THAT…. made no sense in lore. Why would the “drone” following ranboo take establishing shots? It’s supposed to follow ranboo- but then later it gets dismissed and we suddenly have sharp camera cuts to what im guessing was a prerecorded scene due to the camera quality change and it just felt. So sudden and jarring? Like okay you just dismissed the camera and now we suddenly get a different non-canon camera because they remembered we actually need to still see whats happening.
Lore/Story
The lore and story we have gotten so far is so scatterbrained and nonsensical. + knowing that this project isn’t actually what gen loss was supposed to be (which: Why are you advertising it as gen loss then, ranboo? You’re just staining the name of your passion project). So much of genloss is in the “I guess” category of why things happened. But the consistensy also felt so off. From what I understand, Charlie is the slime demon, and was the guy on the gurney, and was also in ep 3 as  himself. And all those other versions WERE the ep3 charlie. How? Charlie died? twice? According to what has happened? But he’s alive anyway at the end until he gets killed again by a cheap backrooms monster? But supposedly everyone else did actually die?
I just. Genuinely do not understand what the story here was. What the point was of everything. I’m not gonna ask who the characters were because the characters were just the streamers and nothing special or new. If you know the streamer, thats the “character”. It’s just godawful writing.
Viewer interaction
Viewer interaction was pointless and didn’t matter. Either every choice the viewers made was gonna happen anyway, or ranboo decided to ignore it lol. It felt like there was no impact to viewers doing anything to influence the show and the show probably would have been largely better had viewer interaction not been a thing at all.
also idk maybe making ranboo’s “character” aware of the audience from the get go would have been more fun as they could’ve been trying to get the audience to do anything while we’re just watching quietly. And they could’ve gotten more and more desperate with the audience as things went on. But then again that requires actual acting skills that ranboo barely has.
Just as some final words, this really feels like a case of someone who has never done anything like this thinking they can do this because they’re famous and well-liked online. I know ranboo makes a lot of money, so they certainly had enough money to make something good. Take some film classes or acting classes. Instead they became overambitious and made just a generally unpleasant show that is not going to make me want to watch any future gen loss content in good faith.
The entire show depends on going “MY STREAMER!!! THATS MY STREAMER!!!” and would not survive on its own merit. The hype towards gen loss was misleading on what it’d be, and the fans made amazing fanart that does not live up to the reality of what they got and i feel genuinely sad for them. The fanbase made a better interpretation of what gen loss is WITHOUT EVEN NEEDING GEN LOSS TO BE OFFICIALLY RELEASED.
also a final thing about the merch but why is the merch so bad lol. Its such boring design. The gen loss logo appears barely anywhere in the show itself. The fans could’ve had some sort of cool merch, like masks based off of ranboo’s mask and the showfall robot masks. Shirts and merch based off of the slime demon and warehouse master.
Anyway sorry for the huge wall of text I have just been going insane abt this to my friend in dms enjoy
————————————————–
i could probably spend hours responding to all of this! thank you for the mini essay, you make a ton of great points. i really sympathize with the “not a ranboo fan” stance because my friends are way more fans of him than i am, and were way invested.
i personally haven’t heard any “it’s supposed to be bad!” defenses but i can totally believe there are people like that out there lol. i definitely in the “there’s no entertainment when it’s bad”. you’re entirely right about the lack of horror! i was so confused after the first stream and everyone was like “it’s not supposed to be horror yet! you don’t understand!” and then it took until the 3rd stream for anything significant to even happen, and even then it was weak.
charlie and jerma did so much for gen loss man, ranboo’s acting was just.. not that great and when it was, it felt so jarring. more interesting lighting would’ve been so fun! so much could’ve been done with that, and that’s especially clear when they switch cameras because they had the ability to film this incredibly and just.. didn’t. i feel like we didn’t get so much lore that we should have, especially with how long the streams were. i hope we get something clearer later on.
the idea of him being aware of chat the whole time would be cool, but idk if it would’ve worked with the “brainwashed” thing he was doing. overall i agree - gen loss was super hyped up and in this form, it didn’t live up to it as well as it could have. once again, ty for the mini-essay, it was a great read!

Hey Donnie, any tips on communicating when nonverbal to people who don’t know sign language?
I shan’t share all the details on here but often times in public the abundance of noice from people existing in general can cause me to shut down a little and become unable to speak, and it makes it difficult to communicate things I need or answer questions to whoever I’m with at the moment.
(Also I read the post about the runaway black holes and it was really interesting- and honestly the idea of a giant black hole just *nyooming* through outer space is amusing to me in a way I can’t understand XD)
Sry for the long freaking ask btw /gen
-Curious Anon
'Nyooming' is a very stimmy word. I like that.
It was a pleasure to tell you about the Runaway Black Hole! p(^-^)q (Hoping for more opportunities)
You have my deepest & honest compassion, Curious Anon. While I do not know you, I do know how you feel & I can empathize.
(Please be proud of me, Mikey, I REALLY REALLY TRIED.)
Communication without sign language:
I can only speak from my perspective & from what I've learned. I will divide this in two parts since I have different ways for different situations:
When I'm masking
When I'm not masking
When I shut down in public & I have to MASK:
Disclaimer: I am aware that masking is a privilege & not everyone is able to do so. I am, so I will include it here.
I am also aware about the fact, that masking can be very damaging (I experience the negatives), yet masking can be the tool to get you through a day without getting hurt.
Masking = actively hiding your neurodivergent traits, mostly by conforming to neurotypical standards even though you know they aren't suitable & healthy for you.
I usually try to play a different role, like an actor. My mind is like a databank, so I have many phrases from shows, movies, etcetera stored that I can use to communicate.
I know that it is not good in terms of the upcoming shutdown: the acting does take a lot of energy that I do not have & THIS definitely will eat me up later.
Also: faking a sore throat or anything that'll let me be quiet.
So far, I haven't found a great solution for that one yet.
It also depends on who I am with. If I'm with my family, they will notice because they know me. They won't pressure me to speak. Being open is the key, yet it is not always possible.
Sometimes, a person on your side who knows can accommodate you.
When I shut down & I'm UNMASKED:
Texting or writing on something
Visual communication cards (there are so many great options out there!)
Basic pointing, nodding, shaking my head
(ACC device - I have my own tech & SHELLDON)
I hope I have given you SOME advice...
Tumblr media
EDIT: Do you mean "nonverbal" as in "in that situation not able to speak"? Then "nonverbal" is not the correct choice of phrasing.
Some better choices:
Speech loss
Verbal shutdown
If applicable: selective mutism
Stress induced temporary mutism

Hi I saw the atl stans dni in your bio and I was wondering why? Like is it just that you don't like their music, or is it something else? /gen
Oh sure! Basically jack is disgusting person and the band won't kick him out. They don't care for their disabled fans. They collect bras from underage fans. They're currently suing the people who spoke up about something jack had done to them and in some instences Alex as well, a lawsuit that if taken seriously anything you say negatively about anyone famous that could potentially sway someone to not buy tickets or merch for loss of income. If you want to learn more Valerie's voice on tik tok explains it all very well! Let me link it here here and here
And more recently a deep dive of the allegations here and more about the lawsuit here
As well as how this lawsuit could effect fans and things we can can't say here and here
I had tickets to their show in October of 2021 just after the allegations came out, however I hadn't heard yet all I knew is both Openers had dropped and no one knew why. As we're entering the venue masses of people are finding out this information at the same time and we all basically walked out. (SIDENOTE: Props to Nothing, Nowhere. and Meet Me @ The Alter for immediately getting out of there when this news came out! More bands need to take charge and distance from abusers as soon as they can! And props to both these bands for taking immediate action! (Even if im sad I didn't get to see either of them and I wanted to so badly))
Anyways stan scene queen whose song 18+ may or may not be about atl and their grossness as well (note bras hanging off the bus and atl's bras collection)
This isn't to say oh all time low is the only band in this genre that has been gross had allegations, or had proof and was.found guilty. No there's tons and I can't begin to list them. Like you know there's hella problems in the scene when the idkhow allegations came out and people have a sigh of relief saying oh it was just fraud. I specifically have atl in my bio because it is a band that I used to love dearly. Somewhere in neverland and therapy were sings that could get me through anything seriously! But I am choosinh forcefully distance myself from this.
Thank you for asking and I hope this didn't come off as rude, more informative than anything.

Hello! I'd like to ask for a music match please :)
My pronouns are they/him (he/him preferred atm), I'd like to get matched for Gabriel (I headcanon him as trans, and that he's insecure about his face a little bit so he wears the helmet! I think it's lovely)
I... Don't entirely know where to start. On the positive, I'm a big fan of music, I love art, I looooove machines. I really wish I was one; the kind of vibes I would give would be immaculate.
I'm big into like, either the most sopping wet pathetic men imaginable, or women who could probably like, crush my skull or something. Don't know why.
On the negative, I've got DID (two alters but they almost never show up), really bad memory loss & migraines, and a complete lack of understanding of myself. Each new day is like learning I'm a different person all over again, and I kind of mold to the people around me, but this is getting better with help.
Additionally, I'm very insecure and I've got a bit of a savior complex. I love dark themes in media, but need a happy ending or I'll cry. I need a good amount of validation or I'll totally fall apart (once again, also getting better with help!!!), but I'm very open & communicative about my needs and willing to negotiate things with people.
I love music with themes of rebellion and attitude, and I love a good story about sticking it to the man and going your own way. In media, I've always loved seeing stories of tragic heroes falling at their own hands but being swept up by someone stronger and sturdier than them, even if it's just for the moment. I've seen myself in the weak one, and I've always wanted to be the strong one.
I've always wanted to save someone from the same situation I was in when I was young, and that's carried onto my adult life. I think this carries into my taste of music and partners; I can't handle anything too happy, or it feels fake. There are very few people who I comfortable with being overly positive towards me.
My life is almost defined by labels. Without them, I would feel lost. I wouldn't be able to just point to a section of the DSM-V and go "oh, right there, that's me."
Silly note, I am mad autistic and start crazy stimming and squealing whenever I hear either a honking bicycle horn, or the KLING of a coin as it's being flipped. I also like to gnaw on things, I'm the guard dog of my friends, and I constantly flip between insanely high-energy and insanely low-energy.
Gen really sorry if this is wonky or too much at all, I'm not good with these... Tysm :))) Also, I'm an INFP-T and an Aries, if either of those help!!!

1. Remember My Name - Mitski a song about feeling valued for what you give others and feelings of inadequacy both past and present. i feel both you and Gabriel would connect over this. for him, his entire creation and purpose was centred around his service to heaven, the council and ultimately the Father. losing this along with his trust in the council and the belief in his creator would undoubtably leave him with questions about his own worth now he was unwilling/unable to fulfill his duties. for what is the fate of an angel scorned by Heaven? "just how many stars will i need to hang around me to finally call it heaven?"
2. Til We Run Out Of Air - Hatchie a song for the saviour complex in you. ultimately about hope after dark times, this is sure to prompt a happy daydream/scenario or two. this song also has parts alluding to self worth issues, which as previously mentioned could be applicable to either of you. true connection and compassion untied to his performance of his duties or role in Heaven is something Gabriel is truly unfamiliar with, but now he has you. you're here for the ups and downs, not keen to give up on him so quickly. "to spend your whole life as your enemy such a crime"
3. Lovesong - The Cure seeing Gabriel struggle with emotions/feelings you similarly have delt with, you recognise and empathise with him in a way that was never provided for him before. i feel this song could apply both ways, your love and care give him the motivation to continue to find his own purpose and worth, and for you he would provide the same compassion in return. as you mentioned appreciating validation the repeated admissions of love could once again go both ways, depending on how you feel at the it might help to imagine this is him talking to you, or you to him. "whenever i'm alone with you you make me feel like i am whole again"
━━━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━━━
i apologise for the lack of overtly punk/rebellious music, however finding songs that were about a relationship in some way that fit that theme and weren't about unhealthy dynamics was very difficult. that being said i hope you like what i came up with, and if you want an additional 3 songs please feel free to send in another request. also apologies again if i sound clinical/uncaring when i speak about insecurity or similar negative self ideals/perceptions, i'm being direct about what i see patterns/connections with. thank you for reading

Do you recommend any books or articles about the impacts of post-industrial capitalism and the commodification of literally everything? Its definitely something dark going on surrounding millennials and gen z with the impact of tik tok, IG, etc. Like idk how to describe it but it makes me sick. Everything feels like a constant state of anxiety and a bottomless pit of consumption. One of my professors even pointed out that younger generations are numbed by nihilism and a general feeling of hopelessness for the future. Its like a lot of us cope with our lack of control in the world by shallow attempts of aestheticizing/perfecting our lives. There is no room for imperfection, individuality, or even true love it seems its all so wrapped up in status. This is scary, thanks for talking about this.
I've just finished Capitalist Realism and highly suggest it- Most books about capitalism use tricky wording and Fisher really uses easy to understand language if you're new to it all. I've been meaning to read The Society of the Spectacle by Debord, also Postmodernism, or, the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism by Fredric Jameson! Also have heard great things about Simulacra and Simulation by Baudrillard, Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia, The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility, and Other Writings on Media by Benjamin. And you are so correct about everything, it's sounds so dreary and negative but it's true. I think living your life like, for example, a Moshfegh sad girl coquette character that's been popularised through Tik Tok and Instagram is just the continuation of consumption, loss of individuality and aesthetic nihilism that does absolutely nothing sadly.

i've been thinking abt the gang's ages as of frontiers and especially sonic and how he kind of feels older in frontiers. i think that's been the general course since like colors or something when we got new VAs and writers but imo it kind of culminates in how he acts in frontiers y'know?
like sure part of it is bc sega removed roger from his limiters but also there's this contrast between how sonic acts now and how he acted especially in the adventure era. like adventure/heroes/shth sonic felt much more sincerely carefree and reckless, like a kid freshly turned 15 who didn't really have a scope of what the world could be like and the magnitude of the kind of stuff he was up against. he had had fantastical adventures in the genesis era sure but i think his approach to them bordered on not taking them as the serious occasions they were bc he was so young at the time, and it was just eggman and his robots. then we moved on to ancient deities and eldritch horrors and the tone is permanently altered.
and there's death now, and it personally affects him. maybe he didn't get to know shadow as deeply as rouge and even eggman, but they had an association forced upon them and they wound up fighting against each other and then together as one. maybe it's subtle but i think it does change sonic at the very end of last story, like some of that carefree attitude died that day. maybe his enthusiasm in heroes and shth is compensating for a part of him that he lost on the ARK.
06 has him experience another loss with elise, even if it could be fixed with time travel, but he had grown to really care about her. im not gonna go into the specifics of their relationship bc i have my own interpretations on it that aren't relevant but like that shit has to hurt, even if just a moment. it hammers in that there ARE stakes and they haven't gone anywhere, and just because one person had a miracle survival it doesn't mean sonic is guaranteed a happy ending. it's not that he loses hope or anything, but i'd imagine there is a voice at the back of his head that remembers it and forces him to keep up an appearance harder than before. and it's exactly what he does for the better half of unleashed. because he's a monster now! and maybe that monster thrives with the weight of the past. dark gaia is all about negative energy, and while it's a necessary part of life it can't be an easy burden to bear on the nightly. would sonic have to fight back those feelings harder than before? i doubt he would feel like he deserves to be that way, when he's supposed to keep his friends safe and save the world, because he's the only one who can.
i can't say i remember enough about satbk to fully take it into count here, but by then i think sonic would've been able to rediscover some of the hope that may have eroded. he would be in a better place post-unleashed, having faced parts of him that he had ignored before, and built himself more into the kind of person he'd like to be; free, maybe a little impulsive, but who ultimately follows their own sense of justice. i don't think he would've ever been considered "lawful good" or anything like that, but maybe he was somewhere close to that when he was younger, subscribing to the idea of a cosmic and righteous good and inherent evil. but that had to change when he learned the world wasn't that simple.
im brushing over colors/gens/lost world/forces here a bit, the first three didn't feel of substance to me and if anything forces was a showcase of keeping up the appearances for the others. but frontiers feels like this culmination of everything so far, and we get to observe sonic in isolation for the first time in a while. most other serious events in the past have had him work together with his friends, but they're only sort of present now, and it makes parts of the curtain drop especially as the game goes on. sonic hides and downplays the corruption because he has to be the carefree and courageous guy he's always been, even if it's been a few years and he's growing up and changing as he does. and he's experienced despair time and time again, and it's hurt, so he forces himself to cling to hope with everything he has now, even when his whole body is overcome by corruption and eating him like a ravenous organic beast. he's grown to care for the people around him much more than he maybe used to, to cherish life as long as it lasts, but it's hard to be the same bright-eyed hero everyone knows you as when you've seen what death looks like. he wants it to go away but it'll always remain, and colors the curtains he puts up so his brother and sister and rival don't have to worry about him.
i keep thinking about the opening lines of sonic adventure and ryan drummond's voice saying goofy 90s flavored lines, and i keep thinking about roger craig smith delivering sonic's lines in frontiers in a tone subtly deeper and different from his previous performances
