The "Q" Word Curse
AO3 Link
Fandom: Naruto Rating: T Relationships: Gaara/Sakura Haruno Word Count: 1,895 Warnings: Medical setting, serious injuries & treatment of said injuries, Sakura hanging on by a thread (but there's a happy ending).
A/N:
Happy GaaSaku Fanfest 2023! This fic was written for the Day 4 prompt, Medic. Setting wise, this is Blank Period (when else?), and Gaara and Sakura have been married for a while. General warnings for hospitals, medical procedures, and Sakura hanging on by a thread (but there's a happy ending). I hope you enjoy! <3

~
It had been an easy morning at the Suna hospital. Sakura spent the entirety of it making her usual rounds, doing nothing more stressful than healing a sprained ankle for a young boy. All of her most complicated patients had been discharged, and the ones that remained only needed breakfast and a friendly chat as she checked their vitals. It was nice, and she felt good about how things were progressing as she turned in her patient reports.
Sari, the girl behind the desk today, beamed at her as she stifled a yawn. “Good morning, Lady Sakura,” she said. “Doing all right today?”
Sakura nodded. “Yeah, thank you. How are you settling in?”
“Really well,” Sari said. “Everyone here’s been so nice.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” Sakura couldn’t help but smile as Sari stifled a yawn. “Tired?”
“I am,” Sari admitted. “I’m still not used to the early mornings.” She picked up a steaming mug from her desk, happily sipping it.
“I’ve been there,” Sakura said. “Thank the gods for coffee, or I wouldn’t be standing some mornings.”
Sari laughed at that. “True,” she said. “And thankfully, it’s been a quiet morning so far.”
Sakura’s blood ran cold. Several people looked up in alarm, dropping papers and letting the water cooler drip onto the floor. She put her hands on the counter and leaned forward. “Don’t say that,” she hissed urgently.
Sari nearly dropped her coffee. “I’m sorry!” she said, eyes wide. “What did I say?”
“The ‘Q’ word,” Sakura replied. “Never, ever say that.”
Sari frowned. “Why?”
“Because the moment you say it, the rest of your shift becomes anything but,” Sakura said, pinching her nose.
“Oh,” Sari said. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
Sakura sighed, forcing her shoulders to relax. “No worries,” she said. “You’re new, so you didn’t know. Just don’t ever say that again.”
“I won’t, I promise.”
Sakura managed a small smile, then turned and briskly walked towards her office, dread flooding her core. She didn’t consider herself a superstitious person by any means, but she fully believed that the word quiet was a deadly one when spoken within the walls of the hospital. She’d only ever heard it spoken three times: this morning, and twice previously. The two times before had each heralded disaster, once a greenhouse shattering and impaling those inside with shards of glass, once a parade horse had panicked and trampled several people in the crowd. She shivered, feeling cold despite the sunlight streaming through the hallway windows, wondering what was in store for her today.
She didn’t have to wait long to find out. As she got to her door, she heard them. The shouts for help, the pounding footsteps, and the slamming doors, all coming from their operating rooms. She took a deep breath, then straightened, tightening the ribbon holding her pink hair back as she raced towards the chaos.
She smiled grimly when she found the crowd of people in Operating Room 1. This room was reserved for only the most serious of cases or the most important patients. Her mind raced with theories, trying to guess what she would see as she tried to push through the people.
A medic named Ameno noticed Sakura’s attempts to break through. She immediately came over, catching her arm. “My lady,” she said, her soft brown eyes full of worry. “You shouldn’t go any further.”
Sakura’s heart nearly stopped beating. She was the head of the hospital, and one of the most skilled medics in Suna, if not the entire world. She’d performed hundreds of procedures over the years, thousands of shinobi and civilians alike finding comfort under her healing hands. There was no reason for anyone to deny her access to any patient.
Except for one.
“Let me pass,” Sakura ordered, keeping her voice cool and steady.
Ameno frowned, clearly thinking it was a bad idea. But she relented, loosening her grip, and Sakura stepped forward.
As she pushed through, she saw exactly what she’d been dreading. Gaara, the Kazekage and her beloved husband, lay on his back on the metal table. His dark-ringed eyes were scrunched closed, his dark red hair plastered to his neck with sweat. His shirt and chainmail had already been removed, revealing a set of red lightning-shaped burns across his pale torso. An ugly slash ran across his rib cage, scarlet blood seeping out and dripping onto the table.
Every part of Sakura wanted to collapse, to scream and wail as so many other wives had done at the sight of their lifeless husbands. Her knees shook. Her head spun. She closed her eyes, but the image of Gaara had already burned itself into her mind, and she had to force herself to breathe.
“What happened?” she asked in the calmest voice she could manage.
“Lord Kazekage was attacked in the market,” one of the younger medics, Jomei, replied. “They used a powerful Lightning jutsu, then stabbed him with a dagger.”
Lightning, of course. The one thing that could disable Gaara’s sand and leave him open to an attack. Sakura nodded, rolling up her sleeves and scrubbing in as quickly as she could as she ordered the medics to clean Gaara’s wound. She then gently placed her hands on Gaara’s chest, careful to avoid directly touching his injuries. Even so, he grimaced, more sweat pouring down his face.
I’m sorry, Sakura thought as she directed one of the medics to wipe Gaara’s face. It’ll only be a little longer. Hang on for me.
She sent pulses of chakra through his body, assessing the extent of his internal damage. The electricity had wreaked havoc, damaging several muscles and organs, the most worrisome of which was his heart. The dagger had gotten deep as well, sinking into his liver.
Sakura gritted her teeth, ignoring the despair that wanted to swallow her whole. She focused her attention on the open wound, which somehow looked worse now that the blood had been cleaned away. Her hands glowed green, and the wound sealed itself shut. Next, she started on his heart, carefully chasing away the burns that crossed epicardium and making sure it was pumping correctly. Then his lungs. His liver. All of the surrounding muscles. One by one, she healed them all. His pained grimace relaxed, and before long, he looked ten years younger than he had when he first arrived. But Sakura refused to stop, pushing her chakra into every cell and restoring life to his muscles and nerves.
The familiar rhythm calmed her, letting her focus on her work rather than who she was working on. Her team picked up her calm demeanor, performing their roles around her as if it was just another day. As if their Kazekage and the love of her life weren’t unconscious in front of them, his life in her hands.
An hour later, Sakura finally slumped into a chair outside, satisfied that Gaara had been sufficiently healed. She gratefully sipped the cup of water Ameno had brought her, giving herself a few moments to breathe as her team took Gaara to the private recovery room near her office. Once she was sure she could stand, she put her professional face back on and followed them.
It took several minutes to get Gaara settled, administering medicine to maintain his recovery and filling out more paperwork than Sakura had ever seen for a single patient. But eventually, it was all set, and the medics filed out and closed the door, leaving them alone at last.
She made it only a few seconds before a low sob escaped her throat. She clamped a hand over her mouth, but more pushed forth, breaking through the walls she had hastily built to survive his treatment. She slumped against the wall and shut her eyes, burning tears dripping onto her pristine white coat.
Gaara shifted slightly on the bed, his cloudy teal eyes opening just a crack. “S..akura?”
She was across the room in a second. “You’re awake,” she whispered, hastily wiping her eyes.
Gaara nodded slowly, wincing as he pressed a hand against his ribs. Sakura gently laid her hands over his. “You should take it easy,” she said. “You were hurt pretty badly.”
She hated the pain that filled his eyes as he looked up at her. “What happened? The last thing I remember, I was in the marketplace.”
Sakura filled him in as best she could, repeating what her medics had told her before going over his injuries. Gaara listened attentively, the sadness and fury in his face enough to break Sakura’s heart. “I’m so sorry that I put you through this,” he said as she finished.
“No,” Sakura said. “The only people at fault here are the ones who hurt you.”
“Even so, I wish you hadn’t been put in a position where you saw me in such dire straits.” He slowly closed his eyes, his head slightly lowered. “I’m sorry for the distress you had to endure.”
Sakura opened her mouth to deny it, to assure him that she was fine, but nothing came out. Another tear splashed onto Gaara’s blanket, then three more. Gaara took her hand, then pulled her into him. Sakura buried her face in his chest, his heartbeat reassuring her that he was there, that he was alive. Her whole body shook as she finally let herself cry. “I’m so glad you’re still here,” she whispered.
Gaara hugged her tighter, barely flinching as he said, “All thanks to you.”
It occurred to Sakura that this was almost funny, that Gaara was the one comforting her rather than the other way around. After all, he was the one who’d been attacked, she’d just put him back together after. But that was how he’d always been - attuned to her and wanting her to be happy, even at his own expense.
Gradually, her sobs quieted, and she slowly pulled back so she could look at him properly. “I love you.”
He leaned forward, softly kissing her forehead. “I love you too.”
She smiled, wiping her eyes. “And you really don’t have to apologize,” she said. “Yes, it wasn’t fun seeing you on my operating table. But given the choice, I would always rather be the one to heal you. That way, I know for sure you’re going to be okay.”
Gaara smiled back, gently brushing back a lock of her hair that had worked itself loose. “You should get some rest now, Sakura.”
“But-” Sakura started to protest.
“I’ll be fine,” Gaara reassured her. “I know you took good care of me. I’ll also be able to rest easier knowing you’re taking care of yourself.”
Sakura’s shoulders slumped. She couldn’t argue with that, and he knew it.
“Okay,” she agreed. “Just promise me you’ll actually get some rest.”
“I will.”
She softly kissed him, then reluctantly stood up. “I’ll be back later to check on you.”
“Of course.”
He settled back against the pillows, his eyes closing as Sakura slipped outside. She waited for a few moments, listening to make sure he was actually asleep. Then she finally clocked out and went home.
She tumbled into bed as soon as she arrived, too exhausted to even eat. Her mind buzzed with worry, her last thought before she succumbed to sleep: He’s going to be okay.
She could only pray she was right.

My contribution to the @gaasaku-fanfests event.
Prompt: Mythology/Supernatural
Summary: Gaara x Sakura. She just wanted to have her deepest desires fulfilled. Can't blame a girl for trying, right? Even if she didn't think it would happen. Even if she didn't believe in such things. They still seemed to believe in her. He was a figment of her imagination. Until he became real. And his desire for her was only matched by hers.
Warnings: Rated Explicit. Smut. Dream Sex.

Morning After.
Tumblr media
Also on AO3. Pairing: Gaara/Sakura. Summary: After a night of debauchery, he fell asleep with her in his arms, slept tangled with her in the sheets, and woke with a stupid grin on his face. Gaara was not a morning person, but this, he could get used to. Prompt: Day 22 | Morning After Rated: Explicit Words: 4,433. Status: Complete. Author note: A bit late for the day prompt, but it was a last-minute whim of a one-shot. The title's a bit on the nose but honestly, it is the only thing that stuck when I tried to change it. Heads up: the Gaara in here is my version of a cheeky AU Modern Gaara. And to be honest, my favourite version - beating out the canon-divergent AU (canon-like personality) by a smidgeon. So be warned: he's not in character to any level of expectation. Enjoy. ^_^ Tags on AO3: Gaara is Bad at Feelings (Naruto), Denial of Feelings, Gaara is in denial, Out of Character, OOCness, POV Gaara (Naruto), Pillow Talk, Smut, Smut for the sake of smut, but feelings too, Fluff, but it’s the in denial kind, Romance, Romance if you squint, Gaara is a pervert, Sakura is just as horny, Sex Positive, Alcohol references, Mentions of Birth Control, Gaara is a little shit, thoughts of non-consensual somnophilia, Limited Sakura POV, Gaara (Naruto)-centric, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, AU Modern, Modern Era, Cheeky Gaara, Cheeky Sakura.

Morning After.
⏰7 A.M.⏰
Hmm. Mmm. Wazza…
Her head was pounding. Her body was unusually warm. And there was an ache between her legs that would’ve set alarm bells blaring had she been aware enough to care. A weight had settled on her but she was too comfortable to shove whatever was cuddling her from her person and instead snuggled into the extraneous heat. Her brain was trying to wake her up.
Noooo. Bad brain. Too comfy. Go back to sleep.
.
⏰8.10 A.M.⏰
She was dreaming of flowers and hot red sand melting her juicy, succulent buds. A wave of pleasure wracked her body as she almost started awake; strong arms tied her down and she relaxed into the invasive hold. A strange noise she hadn’t noticed the last time she almost woke up was shrill in her ear. She frowned in her sleep, huffing and wriggling until it stopped.
Uhhh…
Then everything went black and the buds started to bloom.
.
⏰9 A.M.⏰
Someone kill that sound. It’s too early. Fuck me.
He groaned, his sleep-hazed mind barely registering the end of his dream. It blurred and zoomed back into focus before he became aware of the warm, feminine curves that were pressed against his side. Their legs were entangled. And his morning wood was achingly tucked between hers. He blinked heavily. Had it been a dream or did he really… His body wasn’t normally this sore after sex. It must’ve been rough…
Need more sleep.
He drifted off with a smirk on his face.
.
⏰10.05 A.M.⏰
Sunlight poured in through a nearby window, and when he tried to open his eyes, it felt like he’d fallen asleep with his face planted on the surface of the sun. His eyelids were still too heavy and his body too exhausted.
Fuck this. Fuck the sun. And fuck whoever left the curtains open.
He needed to sleep. His bedmate sighed and he instinctively gripped her tighter, shifting his hips to press himself further into the curve of her. The open window had one silver lining; the cool breeze made it (barely) comfortable enough to spoon. His body ached for more of what it received the night before.
Right after I take another nap.
.:.
⏰11.55 A.M.⏰
Gaara let out a soft gasp as he woke quickly, his eyes opening before he was aware of what he was doing. The clock on the wall told him it was a more reasonable hour to be waking than his last attempts. He sighed and rolled away from the window, even though the sun that had been trying to blind him before had diffused, moving away from the glass panels and fluttering curtains. He’d slept through all four alarms set on his phone, and so had, it appeared, his bedmate. The feminine curves previously pressed against him had extricated themselves from his person and rolled over inelegantly in the opposite direction, though she was clearly still very fast asleep. The sheets had fallen far enough that he got a good view of her arse.
Nice.
Yawning, Gaara wiped the sleep from his eyes as moved to sit against the headboard of the bed, stretching out his aches and pains, very aware of his own nakedness. Now free of the night’s entanglements, he could admire the slender form of the woman he’d slept with. He’d been pining over her for some time (not his wording), trying to worm himself into her life. It wasn’t altruistic or even innocent. He’d wanted to fuck her. But Sakura had a temper to go with her charming personality so once he’d gotten to know her more a niggling voice had begun to form in the back of his head.
“Is this even worth it?”
Then she’d smile at him and yes , he’d decided, she was worth it. He’d learned pretty quickly that she wasn’t the type for a simple tussle in the sheets, so he’d had some serious cajoling to do. Now, of course, his friends’ predictions had come true: he wanted to keep her. The previous night’s activities had solidified it. He hadn’t fucked her. No, it wasn’t as harsh as that. If he didn’t know himself better, Gaara would call it making love .
But he did know himself.
He shifted onto his side, contemplating sliding into a spooning position and attempting to cajole her body into reliving their intimate excursions. It couldn’t hurt to touch her at least, though he was wary of that temper of hers and how she might react if he just started picking up where they left off.
Remembering the first and only slap she once gave him for his inappropriate behaviour, Gaara decided to remain upright and just revel in the memories of what she felt like (not to mention her adorable flirtations the night before) while he waited for her to wake up. His eyes raking in her form, his fingers twitching.
It had all begun with a celebration for their mutual friend; an engagement announcement and a few shots of his favourite alcoholic fruit juice (shōchū) later and Sakura Haruno was putty in his hands. She wasn’t drunk when she shoved her tongue down his throat the first time, claiming she was just so happy for their friends and kissing Gaara was definitely the best way to showcase that. Apparently. She’d started drinking right after that first kiss, but then he’d matched her for every cocktail so he didn’t feel too bad about letting her continue her groping of his person as the night wore on.
And he gave as much as he got.
Gaara remembered, quite vividly, every dirty word she’d whispered into his ear, clearly thinking she needed extra, but salacious, reasoning to get him into bed. Fate , she’d said, had decided . He’d scoffed at that. The fact that they ended up in his hotel room while the party was still raging downstairs, in the newly legal casino, was an inevitability, not fate. They left the Tokyo nightlife behind and partook in each other, instead. Drunk but not sloshed. Buzzed but not inebriated. Yet still so unrestrained and juvenile in their antics that sober would never be a synonym.
The question now was, how much did his little minx remember?
Hands clasped together and cushioning the back of his head, back slouched against the headboard and legs crossed (under the sheets), Gaara watched with both fascination and wariness as Sakura Haruno began twitching. Was she waking up, finally?
She moaned into the other pillow, slumping onto her stomach, uncovering herself completely to his eyes. Before this, the sheet had been tangled around her legs and waist, offering tantalising snippets of her bare arse, but now she was fully on display. Just face down. She seemed very adept at both hogging blankets and giving a good show. He himself still had a modicum of modesty left.
For now.
Perhaps out of respect but more likely out of concern about being caught staring if she were to wake suddenly, Gaara tried in vain to ignore the sway of her bum as she groaned. It reminded him of her playful side from the night before. She was both a tease and sexually dominant once she got going. A flushed Sakura wiggling her bum at him was ingrained in his memory for all time. Part of him wanted to lean over and poke her. She’d likely give him another slap if he tried that, though.
The wiggling stopped, another groan; Sakura seemed to be coming to with her face planted in the pillow. But when she rolled onto her side it was to face away from him. Her arms stretched over the left side of the bed, pushing her body closer to him.
“Hm.”
Her voice was soft and mildly hoarse; he guessed from all the crooning and screaming of his name she’d done hours earlier. Gaara couldn’t help but grin as she started suddenly and fumbled her way into a semi-seated position.
“Huh?”
He waited. Eventually, she looked over at him, her green eyes widening as they found his.
“G-Gaara?”
She looked confused. There was no hours-long remembrance of sexual misconduct realisation on her face. No knowing glint in her eye because of what they’d done and how eager she’d been. Granted, his own memory was a little fuzzy on some details, but her confusion implied she was drawing a complete and total blank.
“You don’t remember last night?” He asked.
Sakura pulled away quickly. “Huh?” Her voice was high-pitched. “What the hell ?”
He watched her closely as her expression turned from confusion to ire rather quickly, wondering if she was debating on slapping him again. She sat up straight quickly, then groaned, grasping her head with her hands, clearly ignorant of her nakedness. Not one to ignore an opportunity, Gaara smiled as his eyes raked the full length of her bare body. Everything was exactly as he remembered.
“How much did I drink last night?” She moaned.
“No more than I did.”
He shifted his bum on the bed, tugging on the edge of the sheets as if to remind the pinkette that they were both very naked. She didn’t seem to notice at first but then a flush of red spread over her face and neck, she let out a weird “eep” and then pulled both sheets up to cover her breasts. Unfortunately for her, that left him exposed. She turned her eyes away when she realised, the flush on her face and neck darkening against her fair skin.
Well, she wasn’t trying to slap him so Gaara decided to use the same tactic he’d employed the night before.
“I’ve already seen everything you have, love,” he purred.
His body hummed with appreciation; the breeze from the open window did nothing to tamp down the heat building in his core. He trailed a hand up her arm and was pleasantly surprised when she didn’t pull away. She kept her face hidden in her hands and a scrunched-up section of the sheets, fisted in her hands as he became more adventurous. He turned to face her better, tracing his fingers along her sides, spurred on by her shiver as she continued to let him touch her. She stiffened when his hand found her hip and then splayed his fingers over her lower abdomen. Drawing circles on her skin with this thumb, he returned her stare as she regarded him warily, the corner of her eye twitching. On the plus side, her grip on the sheets loosened.
Emboldened, Gaara smirked at her, still stroking her gently. “What? Turnabout’s fair. My turn to come onto you this time.”
“You came onto me last night,” she said, narrowing her eyes at him.
“No. You came onto me, first.”
“I did not ,” she snapped.
“You did so.”
“Did not!”
He gave her a condescending look.
“I didn’t.” She sounded less sure this time.
Sakura turned away from him and closed her eyes like she was trying to dig deep into her memories to find something buried and vague but palpable. He watched as she scrunched up her face in concentration before letting out a huff and opening her eyes again. She looked defeated.
“So, was it good for you too?”
Okay, that wasn’t conducive to his desire to get her underneath him again but her reaction was funny. She snarled and tugged harder on the sheets. She seemed too angry to speak. Gaara laughed. Okay, he was done teasing.
“I’m joking. Well, kind of. It really was good for me.”
She sighed releasing her death grip on the sheets. “Don’t you get tired of being such a dick all the time?”
He shrugged. “Depends on what I’m doing with it.”
She didn’t rise to the bait this time. Disappointing. Instead, Sakura shoved the sheets toward him while trying to maintain her dignity. He didn’t help, lifting his knees and letting the linen fall back onto the bed. She glared at him. For all her indignation, he wondered why she wasn’t trying to leave .
Gaara decided that Sakura wanted to be in bed but stopped himself from saying it out loud.
“Okay,” she said softly, more to herself than to her new lover. “I can be mature about this.”
She was psyching herself up for something, inhaling deeply through her nose then letting the breath slowly through the same cavity. Her mouth was a little too busy pressing into a thin line to be helpful. But on the plus side, all her frustration seemed to have floated away on a cloud of rainbows by the time she opened her mouth to speak again.
“Last night was–”
“Amazing,” he interrupted.
She rolled her eyes. “I mean–”
“So, bad then?”
Sakura flushed. “No! I–”
“Loved every minute and want to do it all over again?”
He really should have stopped trying to annoy her but she was so cute, flustered. However, she didn’t get riled up again and instead, the corner of her mouth twitched in what could only be called amusement.
“Were you going to say something different?” He fake-pouted. “Because if so, then I–”
“It was, uh… lovely?”
Lovely ? Just lovely ? Even if she didn’t remember every sordid moment of the most exquisitely delicious sex he’d ever had, the least she could do was be polite about it. Not shatter his manhood. It was his turn to frown in annoyance. He grabbed the pillow from behind his back and hit her in the shoulder with it. Not too hard but not gentle either.
Just the way I like it.
Ignoring their nakedness ( when had she stopped caring about that? ), Sakura let the sheets fall from her hands, turned to grasp the only other pillow on the bed and (with both hands) slapped him upside the head with it.
She’s back to slapping again.
But this version was enjoyable.
He returned her challenging grin and pounced. Sakura giggled as she threw her hands up to ward him off. He came at her with his pillow and she tried to slap him again. He got her on the arm again then grabbed her pillow with his free hand, pulling her upwards and toward him so he could hit her on the bum. She wrenched her weapon from him and giggled again as they exchanged blows with pillows again. He found himself laughing out loud and almost fell over when Sakura tried to push him. On her knees, she was fully exposed and his body hummed as he used the momentum of her attack to get a peek under the flailing pillows. Between her legs, up and down her body… those tits.
He groaned, feeling himself hardening with every second. Gaara grabbed both their pillows and shoved at Sakura, pushing her onto her back, and straddling her. He had no idea what this was supposed to be, between the giggling, heavy breathing, the mutual shit-eating grins and her sudden change in demeanour.
But I like it.
The wild, irrepressible sex kitten from the night before was making herself known.
Gaara found himself, quite suddenly, looking down at the flustered woman, his knee between her legs, their breaths intermingling, their lips less than an inch apart. Heavy breathing, parted lips, dry mouth; yes, it seemed like she was as attracted to him as he was to her. Last night had not been an accident.
He lowered his forehead to her as they stared wide-eyed at each other. The throbbing pain between his legs was demanding attention and Gaara didn’t want to disappoint his favourite part of his anatomy. But… Sakura returning his attraction was not permission. He waited, licking his lips and swallowing hard.
She said nothing, her body trembling like she was still trying to grasp what had happened.
We partook in the rather childish antics of a pillow fight then I won by pinning you to the bed and now we’re so close I could just… slide right inside of you, if I were so inclined.
Oh, he was definitely inclined. But how to move things along?
Gaara sighed, his eyes darting to the side as he contemplated this. Moving quickly, Sakura took advantage of his hesitation and pushed at him. She yanked on him, using the pillows squashed between their chests for leverage, to get him flat on his back. He didn’t fight her, eager to see what she was planning to do with this faux position of power.
He just raised an eyebrow at her, smirking again.
“It’s my turn on top,” she said.
“To do what?” His voice was croaky. He sensed this was a do or don’t moment between them.
Sakura lowered her face to his, the pillows on his chest the only barricade to her going any further. She was straddling him, breathing heavily and clearly as aroused as he was. Her lower half pressed against his. He groaned as she shifted her pelvis… likely on purpose, the fucking minx.
She pulled back, leaving the pillows on his chest and flushing with clear excitement as she left herself uncovered for his perusal. “Your move, Sabaku.”
Cheeky woman.
His eyes inevitably dropped from hers, soaking in the familiar sight of her bare breasts. He remembered cupping them on more than one occasion the night before, pleasantly surprised by how well they fit in his hands. How quickly and easily the nipples hardened under his teasing. Perky and pointy , if memory served, were his slightly inebriated thoughts at the time.
Slowly, as if he were afraid of startling a wild animal, Gaara removed pillows as a barrier to her. Then he slipped his right arm under her armpit to pull her down far enough to capture her left breast in his mouth. The nipple pebbled between his lips. Sakura moaned, wriggling her bum against him and pushing her chest further into his face.
“Gaara…”
Her voice was honeysuckle and sultry. After a minute, he switched to the other breast and she half-slumped, her body shuddering. It might’ve also had something to do with the delicious friction building between their legs.
“Hm.”Sakura let out weird noise after nonsensical word as she unconsciously ground against his erection. She was already so slick and primed to go.
He hissed at the strained stiffness she was grinding over and murmured, “fuck, yes,” against her pert nipple.
Uncertainty seemed to have returned her, however, and she let out a frustrated sigh before pulling away from him, her legs remaining blissfully in place even as she stopped moving her hips. It was a disappointing turn of events, but he took the opportunity to move his hands to cup her breasts, thumbs tracing circles over both areola. She closed her eyes. Whatever reservations she’d had a moment ago did not extend to this at least, or so it seemed.
Sakura only allowed him a few more moments of this before grabbing his wrists and pushing his arms away. He groaned and a light smirk played at the corner of her mouth, but she didn’t address his frustration. When he let his arms slack under her grip, she released him. He didn’t dare return to her breasts for fear of retaliation, though he so wanted to, and instead rested his hands on her hips.
They stared at each other, silently. So much of this interaction had been silent. Or at least, without words.
He reached up and stroked the side of her face. “You really can’t remember last night?”
She hadn’t been drunk, right? No, she had been. Well, as much as he’d been drunk. And she had a reputation for drinking others under the table. The previous night hadn’t seemed any different as her equilibrium had been tested to its limits but she’d definitely been a more than capable lover the night before. He’d always known she was feisty but, for some reason, Gaara had gotten it into his head, in all the time he’d known her, that she’d be more submissive in bed. Her morning-after, domineering personality seemed to match the confident, beautiful woman who’d sucked him off so casually in an alcove mere meters from where their friends were still partying before suggesting they take “this fun” upstairs to his hotel room.
I’m loving every facet of her.
Gaara watched her face morph from intense scrutiny of his person to startled coyness and felt himself growling again, in realisation. “You minx! You remember!”
Unable to keep a straight face any longer, Sakura burst out laughing, falling forward to bury her laughter into the crook of his neck. The vibrations of her body against his were welcomed, but not the focus of his attention right now.
Right up until the moment the damn broke she’d been a really good actress. Gaara was both impressed and annoyed by how thorough this deception was. She continued to laugh, albeit softer, into his neck.
“You were already awake when I woke, weren’t you?” he asked softly. Dangerously.
“No,” she said weakly, letting out a soft hiccup as the last of the bulk of her laughter.
“I don’t believe you.”
Sakura sat up quickly, almost knocking the wind out of him. The look on her face was one of mock terror, ruined a second later as she started giggling again. But before he could properly admonish her, she leaned down and pressed her lips against his softly, pressing their mouths deeper immediately. He blinked and she was gone, sliding off him and lying back on her side of the bed. She looked much happier now though. It deflated his indignation.
“I really didn’t remember,” she said after a moment. He hummed and closed his eyes. “It was fuzzy until you groped me. Things slowly started coming back after that.”
He grinned but didn’t reply, self-satisfied.
A minute later, Sakura rolled over to face him and tentatively tapped her fingers along his chest. “Are you still very, very tired?”
They weren’t going to talk about how they ended up in bed together, it seemed. He glanced at her and turned to face her. His hand danced along her hip.
“That depends.”
“On what?”
“On whether or not that was your attempt at seduction.”
She snorted, obviously now remembering her bumbling efforts the night before. “Last night was amazing,” she said seriously. “I’m not sorry I seduced your sorry arse.”
He smiled lightly.
They stared at each other silently. This could be the beginning of something truly amazing if he didn’t screw it up. She blinked owlishly at him. Was that permission?
Ah, screw it.
Gaara flipped Sakura onto her back and wedged his knee between her legs again. She laughed in delight, the grin on her face was challenging as she smirked up at him. Not waiting for further approval, he slid his hand down her body, rubbing between her thighs, finding that sweet nub and pressing gently against it. He knew from last night that she didn’t like it too hard there; he swallowed her moans with his mouth, nipping her bottom lip to demand entrance. Between his stimulation and the friction at the apex of their thighs, Sakura very quickly began writhing in blissful agony beneath him. She eagerly latched onto his hip with her leg, begging him without words to just bury himself between her thighs already.
Obeying the silent, almost-command he grasped himself, pumped a few times, and rubbed the end of his length against her folds. Sakura was panting and gasping, having broken their kiss.
“Fuck me,” she said, having found her voice. “Now, please!”
Gaara grinned and returned to kissing her as he tucked himself snugly in the gap between her thighs. More teasing. More anticipation. She was wet and sticky and beyond ready for him. It was enough lubrication for him to slide right into her. He had not been expecting that giggle-moan from her as he started moving immediately, pushing and pulling against her, inside her.
“Gaara…”
His name her sultry lips spurred him on, and he thrust faster into her trembling body. The rest of the world disappeared. His rhythm was demanding and coaxing. He wanted her to scream underneath him. To shriek and squawk and make all manner of nonsensical noises because the feel of him moving inside of her was really that powerful. Call him an egotist but when she was too fucked to even articulate his name or the name of whatever kami she believed in, that was when he knew nobody would ever compare to him. Ever again. The thought of her wanting anyone else was too much. He had to show her that this was it for her. With him.
She cried and moaned, holding him tightly as she tried desperately to move with his thrusts. His movements were too erratic by the time she managed some kind of success and Sakura fell into the abyss that was Gaara Sabaku, once again.
His arms were like jelly, his body shaking with the effort of remaining taut above her. The bed groaned beneath them. And eventually, something had to give.
Gods, fuck.
His body was on fire. She felt so god damned fucking good clutching and spasming around him. He was distantly aware that Sakura hadn’t been the only one making nonsensical noises when he felt his end fast approaching. If he’d had the mind to count, Gaara would’ve lost count of how many times she came around him.
I’m done.
Feeling confident in his memory of Sakura claiming to have a birth control implant (she called it Eton… something) Gaara shuddered one last time, emptying himself inside of her. The energy damn broke and he was suddenly very exhausted.
Happy but exhausted.
He stayed on top of her as Sakura kept her legs locked around his waist. She seemed unwilling to let him go. But eventually, she released him and Gaara tried to roll of without bumbling, he really did. But he was like a rubber chicken. He flopped and went limp, having to unwrap her right leg from his after he’d fallen onto his back.
Sakura didn’t laugh at him but couldn’t hide her smirk. Maybe she hadn’t caught her breath yet. Yeah, maybe. He wanted to cuddle. Gods, he wanted to hold her and never let her go. He wasn’t going to admit these things out loud though.
I need to sort myself out.
Oblivious to his internal struggle, Sakura glanced over at him, still smirking. “We should meet like this more often, Mr Sabaku.”
She burst out laughing again and after a moment’s hesitation, he joined her.

GaaSaku 2023 FanFest Day4
Prompt: Medic
(AU)
“Come on, Gaara,” she groaned. “Not tonight.”
“Just give me ten minutes?” he pleaded; his hands, hot and sweaty as they were, grasped at her own. He held her fingers gingerly and brought them to his lips, speaking against them, “I promise it won’t take long.”
Sakura rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, pulling her hand from his and wiping the sweat from them. “I know it won’t,” she agreed. “You remember what happened last time? I do.”
Gaara chuckled. “You know I’ve been practicing, I’ve gotten better,” he countered, stating his case for the umpteenth time that day.
Sakura couldn’t help but glance back to the open mat behind him where Lee could be seen shadow boxing in the studio mirror, checking his form. “So? The whole team has been practicing for nationals. He’s gotten better, too,” Sakura stated back, a tempered warning in her words. She learned very early in their relationship that no one in the dojo was going to keep that bloated ego of his in check if she didn’t. Being top players in the division and instructors at the dojo, he and his colleagues were often left uncontested unless against one another. Gaara though, no matter how much she loved him and admired his proficiency in weapons specialties, just wasn’t a match for Lee in point sparing. “You were nearly concussed last time, and,” she emphasized by pulling him a little closer by the sleeve of his gi. “He had you down after three rounds.”
Gaara thinned his lips trying to hold back his smirk, but as usual he failed. “Ten more minutes,” he said as he stepped closer, slipping around the subject while slipping his hands around her waist. He pulled her against him. “And then whatever you want tonight is yours.”
Sakura turned her face when he bent down to kiss her, though it didn’t deter him from pressing his nose against her hair and breathing in the scent of her shampoo. It was a promise she had heard before and one that he was all too eager to uphold. Usually, it paid off to go along with it; another hour for practice here, another spar with Naruto there, and the rest of her evening was filled with his undivided attention. Gaara loved giving her said attention, and he was more than equipped to do so.
Having been in taekwondo since he was a young boy, Gaara had earned his blackbelt by the age of twelve and had known nothing outside the world of competitions, perfection of form, and intense physical training. He’d been making a living by winning weapons competitions across the country before he went up against the top competitor from Uzumaki Dojo and quickly found himself with a shiny new medal and recruitment to a full-time gig at the best studio in town. The Uzumaki’s had made a name for themselves and they fared no less when their son took over the business. They had a large facility that hosted anything from beginner level classes in Tai Chi and kick boxing, to expert level martial arts specialization fit for competitions at national levels, even global some years. Given the intensity of some of their programs, Sakura had been hired a few years back as an onsite RN that also had a license in physical therapy and massage therapy. She was an invaluable asset to the dojo and played a key role in keeping their fighters in shape for competition.
That was how Gaara found his way into her life; a series of overblown sprains and pulled muscles that had him seeking her out once or twice a week until she finally broke down and accused him of purposely monopolizing her time, to which he responded by stating that he wouldn’t have to if she would just go out with him, and he’d been showering her with his attention ever since.
But a tussle with Lee would leave him in no condition to do so, she was absolutely sure of it, and she preferred they start their weekend without a care regiment. Sakura wasn’t a fan of bringing her work home with her, but with Gaara moved in, it followed her home more often than not these days.
So, she tried a different approach.
Looking back up, she pushed her weight forward and leaned against him, those green doe eyes of hers blinking at him as she pouted. “You promised we would spend the night together,” she mumbled with a half-hearted whine, reminding him that with nationals coming up, their free time together at home was dwindling. Gaara ran his fingers through her hair, openly enjoying her methods. “You were going to take me to dinner.”
“My love, you know I will,” Gaara practically purred in response as he bent down and kissed her forehead. “Just be patient.”
She huffed and broke away from him to sit down on the benches beside the mats. He gave her a wink and readjusted his gi before joining Lee. They both seemed too eager for an honest rematch with each other as far as Sakura was concerned, as were some of the seasoned students and other senseis that gathered at the edges of the mat to watch.
Naruto and Hinata, their employers and the owners of Uzumaki Dojo, joined her at the bench. They had dismissed the last class of the day and came over to see what the excitement was all about. Being the procurers of the talent employed by the dojo, as well as one of their competing specialists in form, Naruto stepped over to referee their match.
All the onlookers, Sakura and Hinata included, were watching quietly for the first round. It lasted less than thirty seconds before Lee landed enough strikes to end it and get his first point, no shocker there, and Gaara quickly called for the start of the next round, already returning to stance.
“Is Gaara looking to compete in point sparring at nationals this year?” Hinata asked, her sentence punctuated by the sharp Si-jak called out by her husband.
Sakura shook her head, bobbing her heel on the ground as the air filled with the sounds of sliding feet and deflected strikes. “No, sticking to his usual,” she said with a sigh. “He’s just trying to fix that sore pride Lee gave him.”
“Point, Lee!” Naruto called out. Gaara cursed and his opponent was all too eager to encourage him to try again, to try harder. “Bah ro!”
“I don’t know,” Hinata mused thoughtfully, tilting her head to throw Sakura a side-glance.
“Si-jak!” The next round started, Gaara was certainly putting greater force behind his strikes, and he’d gotten faster at deflecting Lee’s blows, but Lee had been busy keeping everyone in his dust.
“It has been a while,” Hinata continued. “I have a feeling he just wants to relive the nostalgia.”
Another point to Lee, another call for return to start. Round four; they certainly weren’t wasting any time, and she had to at least give him credit for the new personal record against Lee.
Sakura looked over to her and couldn’t help but laugh. “Of getting kicked in the head?”
Shaking her head, Hinata explained, “You know he wasn’t even aware we had an onsite medic until you needed to monitor him for symptoms of concussion?”
Sakura nodded; oh yes, she definitely remembered. She had been late to work that day with car troubles and received a call while at the mechanics; Lee overdid it with the new guy and they were wondering what the warning signs of a head injury were. She left her car at the shop and immediately called for a taxi, all the while running through some questions with Naruto over the phone. Arriving as soon as she could, she walked into work only to hear Gaara barking from the back rooms that he didn’t need to be looked at and he was fine. He obviously hadn’t dealt with defeat much, he was also visibly surprised when she was introduced to him as his coworker, and she’d certainly had her hands full with him after that.
“Hurt pride or not; I think that was his favorite day at work to date.” She smiled over to her friend, a rare and mischievous expression crossing her face. “It’s not often you get a girlfriend as a consolation prize.”
Sakura looked away from the teasing in Hinata’s eyes only to see her lover take a swift elbow strike to the side of the face followed by a side kick to the ribs. Failing to counter the kick left him open for another set of blows to the ribs and that finished off the points needed for the fourth round to be Lee’s win.
Gaara’s back found the mats soon after and Lee laughed as he collided with the ground. “I’m sorry, man! I thought you’d keep up.”
Gaara groaned for him to shut up as he leaned up on an elbow and clutched his side. He looked over to his girlfriend from his spot on the floor, eagerly looking for her sympathy while feigning more pain than he was likely actually in. She became convinced that Hinata had been right; if losing against Lee meant reliving the first day they met, he’d be happy to taste that defeat again.
Somewhat apologetically, Lee looked across the mat to where Hinata could be seen grabbing the first-aid bag from beside the bench and jokingly handing it over to Sakura, and he called out, “Medic!”
Thanks for reading!

@gaasaku-fanfests Day 8: Long Distance Relationships
Tumblr media
I have two different ideas for this one piece, so here's both of them and it's up to you which one to imagine
//🌺The first one is that they both were bonded together by an arrangement and had to wait several months to meet each other in order to perform the marriage ceremony. Both Sakura and Gaara weren't pleased but that news so they decided to get to know each other. With the help of their servants, they exchanged letters throughout these month and fell in love through the letters and words📜 //
//📜The second one is that they're the famous poets, who became interested in each others works and decided to dedicate every single poem to each other but hiding their feelings under epithets and metaphors🌺//
I completely forgot about that event plus I didn't have the access to this account so now I'm trying to do as many works as possible. Probably it all would be chaotic and disorganised but anyway. My main goal is to draw in appreciation of this amazing pairing and the event itself💕

Sakura leaned against her pillows, propped up between her and the headboard. She glanced at the phone sitting on its cradle on her nightstand. After a moment, she sighed, then turned back to the book in her hand. She tried to concentrate, but the words resembled ants on the page, shifting and nonsensical. She groaned, rubbing her temple as the book fell closed on the blankets.
The phone rang, sharp and shrill. She frantically snatched the phone off its cradle, causing it to crash onto the bed next to her book. “Damn it,” she hissed, her cheeks burning as she picked it up and crushed it against her ear.
She could hear the amusement in Gaara’s voice as he said, “That wasn’t the greeting I expected.”
Sakura groaned, falling back against her pillows. “It wasn’t the one I was planning to say either.”
“Then let’s start over,” he said graciously. “Good evening, Sakura.”
“Good evening,” Sakura replied, finally letting herself relax. “It’s nice to finally hear your voice.”
“I’m sorry I’m late,” Gaara said. “Things have been getting busy here lately. I’m lucky if I get to return home before midnight some days.”
“It’s fine,” Sakura said. “You’re the Kazekage. You have a lot of important things to take care of.”
“I do,” he agreed. “But you’re important too.”
Sakura pressed her hand against her chest, feeling warm. “Thank you.”
“No need,” Gaara replied. “You never have to thank me for thinking of you, Sakura.”
“I still appreciate it. You’re important to me too, you know?”
Gaara took several seconds to reply. When he did, his voice had softened. “I know, but you’re right, I appreciate hearing it.”
Sakura’s finger tenderly stroked the side of the phone. “I wish you were here with me,” she said. “I’d like to do more than just talk to you.”
“As do I,” Gaara said. “It’s been too long.”
Sakura nodded, thinking back to that wonderful day nearly three months ago. Gaara had come to the village to personally oversee some negotiations with Kakashi. She was excited to see him, but unfortunately due to the nature of his visit, he’d been unable to spend much time with her. But then, to her surprise, he’d specifically taken an extra day before he returned to his village. That day, he was completely devoted to her. Touching her, holding her, exploring the village with her, all culminating with them spending a passionate night in his hotel room - one that Sakura hoped would be the first of many. Sakura still shivered when she remembered the way his fingers and tongue sought out her most sensitive spots, the way his cock filled her so perfectly when the teasing became too much, the way their body exploded with the most exquisite orgasms either of them had ever experienced. Sakura had to take the next day off to recover, her legs trembling whenever she tried to stand for more than a minute. She couldn’t imagine how Gaara had managed to walk back to Suna, for he had been no better than she.
“Sakura?” Gaara said, interrupting her reverie. “Are you there?”
“Yeah, sorry,” Sakura said. “I was just thinking about last time.”
“I understand,” he said. “I think about it all the time.”
“Do you?”
“I do. That day…it was one of the most wonderful of my life.” Desire thickened his voice. “And I can’t wait until we can repeat it.”
Sakura shivered. “Neither can I.”
Gaara flipped through some paper, then sighed. “Three months to go.”
“I know that’s technically not very long,” Sakura said. “But it feels like it.”
“It does,” he agreed. “I knew I should have pushed harder to move the Chunin Exams up a month or two.”
Sakura grinned. “You’d upend the schedules for all the villages just to see me sooner?”
“A small sacrifice for a greater good.”
Sakura laughed hard at that. “I love you,” she said, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes.
“I love you too,” he replied. Then, after a moment of hesitation, he said, “Sakura.”
To the untrained ear, Gaara would have sounded calm. But Sakura knew better. She could hear the nervousness when he said her name, could almost see him working himself up to say what he had to say. “Yes?” she asked softly.
“There is…something else we could do,” he said, his voice as calm as he could make it. “If you’d be willing.”
“What is it?”
“We could…help each other,” Gaara said. “Over the phone.”
Sakura let out a long breath. She had to admit, she was already feeling aroused from remembering that night from months ago. The thought of Gaara whispering dirty things in her ear while she touched herself…it was tempting. Her hand idly played with the knot on the front of her shorts. “I’m listening.”
He sighed with relief. “Thank you.”
“Of course,” Sakura said. Then, nervously, she asked, “What about Kankuro though?”
“He’s out for the evening,” Gaara replied. “I’m all yours.”
A happy blush spread across Sakura’s cheeks. “And I’m all yours.”
The smile was audible in his voice. “Gods, I can’t wait until July.”
She smiled back. “What do you want to do with me?”
“Everything,” he replied. “But I’d start with...kissing you. It’s been too long since I’ve felt your lips on mine.”
Sakura smiled, her face burning as she pictured his kiss, starting soft but rapidly turning heated. “I’d kiss you until you couldn’t breathe anymore, and once you caught your breath...I’d kiss you again.”
“And while you did that, I would start unzipping your top.” He paused. “What are you wearing now?”
“Pink tank top and shorts,” she said as she glanced down.
“Take them off.”
Her thighs clenched, the sheer authority in his voice making her burn hotter. “You’re awfully eager,” she teased.
“Sakura,” he warned.
She snorted, then set the phone down on her bed. She took her time, hoping he could hear the sounds of the fabric peeling off her skin. She tossed them away, then settled back against the pillows and tucked the phone under her chin. “There,” she said. “You should join me, Gaara. It’s so much more comfortable.”
“Already done.”
Her mouth fell open. “Already?”
“I believe you already said it,” Gaara replied. “I’m feeling rather eager tonight…thinking about you in bed.” His voice lowered. “Thinking about touching you.”
She laid the phone on the pillow next to her head. One of Sakura’s hands fondled her breast, her thumb teasing the nipple. The other snaked down her body, mimicking the path that Gaara had made all those months ago. Her folds were already wet, slickness clinging to her fingers as she traced herself. “I’d love for you to touch me,” she breathed.
“Gods, how I’d love to touch you,” Gaara said. “To feel your breasts in my hands again. To kiss them and suck on them until you beg me for more.”
Sakura let out a small gasp, sinking a finger inside herself. “Please,” she whimpered.
“You’re touching yourself now, aren’t you?”
Sakura almost laughed. “I am,” Sakura said, slowly drawing a circle around her clit with her thumb. “How did you know?”
“Just a hunch,” he said, his voice becoming a little breathy.
“You are too, aren’t you?”
“Mmm.”
She grinned as her voice lowered. “I can’t help it,” she said, pinching her nipple. “Just thinking about you sucking on my breasts while you tease my clit.”
Gaara let out a breathy moan. “Sakura…”
“I don’t know how you figured out how to make me feel so good on the first try,” Sakura said, her breath turning shaky. “But you did.” She pushed her finger deeper in. “You make me feel so good.”
Gaara groaned loudly in her ear, and Sakura gave silent thanks that they were both alone.
“You as well,” Gaara said. “Gods, Sakura, I still remember the first time you used your mouth. I still dream about it.”
Sakura’s eyes fluttered shut, remembering the sweet sounds that had poured from Gaara’s mouth. He’d laid back against the mattress, moaning and whimpering as she sucked his cock, his toes curling as he fought the urge to thrust into her mouth.
“Soon, it won’t be just a dream,” she said. “Soon, I’ll do it again for real. As soon as the hotel room door closes behind us, I’ll get down on my knees for you.”
“Yes,” he said, sounding almost like he was begging for it.
Her thumb’s circles grew more frantic, and she whimpered, a gush of wetness coating her fingers. It had only been a few minutes, and yet she could already feel the coil tightening within her. “Gaara,” she said, her voice high and breathy. “Please.”
“Are you close?”
“Yes.”
“Then go,” he said. “Let me hear you.”
Sakura nodded, her whimpers growing louder as her fingers plunged inside her, curling against her sweet spot. “Gaara, Gaara, Gaara…”
She could hear his hand stroking his cock more frantically, the skin sliding against skin. “Sakura,” he panted. “Oh gods, Sakura…”
Hers hit first. Her back arched off the bed as her walls clenched around her fingers. She let out a garbled version of his name, her voice echoing off her bedroom walls. Through the haze of her arousal, she heard him calling out her name as well, his voice torn with ecstasy before dissolving into heavy pants.
“Gaara…” she whispered, too tired to even wipe the sweat from her brow.
“Sakura…” he said back, the awe in his voice palpable despite his obvious exhaustion.
She closed her eyes, imagining him collapsed on his bed with sweat pouring from his flushed, nude body. She could almost see him turn to look at her, desire in his cloudy teal eyes. She subconsciously reached out, wanting to stroke his sweaty red hair. But her hand only found open air before falling onto the pillow.
All of her bliss evaporated, plunging through the floor into the core of the earth. She stared at the dark, empty space, blinking furiously as her eyes started to burn.
“...Sakura?”
She angrily wiped the tears from her eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“Sakura?” he asked, sounding alarmed. “Are you all right?”
More tears splashed onto her pillow. “I wish you were actually here,” she said, hating how miserable she sounded. “I wish you were the one doing this to me…”
“I know,” he said, sadness creeping into his blissed out voice. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think…”
She shook her head, adjusting the phone by her ear as she grabbed a tissue. “You have nothing to apologize for,” she said. “It sounded like a great idea…just…”
“It’s hard when you aren’t here after.” His voice grew quiet. “When I can’t hold you.”
“Mmhmm,” Sakura said. “That’s it in a nutshell.”
Gaara hummed in thought. Sakura then heard shuffling, followed by more flipping paper. “You know,” he said. “I haven’t had a vacation in quite some time.”
Sakura’s breath caught in her throat. “Gaara?”
“Would you have any free time near the end of May?”
Sakura launched herself out of bed, digging through her purse until she found her calendar. The busy season was April, when she helped conduct all of the annual physicals for the shinobi. But they would be done well before then. “Yes,” she said, unable to keep the nervous excitement out of her voice.
“I hear the beaches in Kirigakure are exquisite…and there are lots of places for couples to get away and be alone.” The hope in his voice was palpable as he asked, “Would you like to join me?”
Just like that, her despair was gone, replaced with giddy excitement. “I’ll put in my leave request first thing tomorrow,” she said, squeezing the phone tightly.
The smile was back in his voice. “As will I.”

Gaasaku fanfest 2023
Days 5 & 6: "War" & "Forbidden jutsu"
(My Soulmate AU: Hurtless)
Tamashī Ketsugō no jutsu: Soul Combination Jutu.
A ninjutsu only soulmates can do. When active, both ninjas share all the knowledge and abilities they have with the other: anything one of them can do, the other can too.
That jutsu is already dangerous as it is (one mistake and both will end up in a graveyard) but when a jinchuriki is involved... well, both soulmates better pray for luck
(Am I going to make art of this au only every two years or what?! I curse you, lack of energy!)
I don't know if this scene will really happen in my Soulmate AU from 2019 but we'll see 😏 That jutsu does exist in it, tho (Pardon my english btw)

Touched
Sakura held her hand to his bare skin and tried to focus on healing him and not how surprised she was that Gaara had a six pack. It really was unfair.
Notes: I decided that there was no Konoha Crush and that there was no tailed beasts. So that it made sense for Gaara and Naruto to be sparring in their late teens and Gaara is not Kazekage.
.x.
The cloud from the explosion had a distinctly mushroom look to it. Sakura grimaced as two bodies flew through the air, crashing into the ground. Every day they came to this training ground and Gaara and Naruto would beat each other to a pulp. One had the perfect defence (apparently) and the other enough stamina to rage for days. They didn’t look to be stopping any time soon either.
And every day, Sakura would hover around like a mother hen, waiting and worrying about what they were doing to each other. It used to be Naruto and Sasuke back when Team 7 was still a thing but Sasuke had moved on to ANBU and was now preparing for his Uchiha wife-to-be.
Sakura still sighed heavily and wistfully remembering the day he told them in that monotone voice of his that he was getting married to some distant cousin. Naruto told him his clan was “gay and weird” for that and the two had barely spoken since.
Sasuke didn’t have a sense of humour about his family and Naruto had no tact.
A loud war cry broke Sakura’s thoughts and she looked back over the destroyed training field. They were still at it. The mushroom cloud turned to dust and disappeared. But a moment later, it reappeared - this time the colour of chakra.
Naruto had something to prove to the outsider who dared to say that Konoha ninja were children. Gaara had something to prove to the orange clad idiot who retorted that all sand ninja were weak compared to the leaf.
Sakura just hoped they didn’t end up killing each other and causing an inter-village incident. So here she was, loyally waiting for them to finish and not be able to move anymore before heading in to heal them. She always decided who to heal first based on who was being the least rude. It was often a close call.
This had been going on for three weeks leading up to the new Chunin Exams and neither were backing down. And every time she healed him, Sakura developed a new appreciation for Gaara of the Sand. To stand toe to toe with Naruto and sometimes even outlast him was no small feet. Naruto had more power but Gaara had better control and (seemingly) more jutsu up his sleeve.
And his heavy breathing when she healed him was almost too distracting for her to concentrate on her chakra. It was lucky she had perfect control or she’d not be able to heal him. He watched her, too, when he wasn’t too exhausted to. In her peripherals, Gaara’s sweaty, flushed and intense face zeroed in on her calm and focused expression.
Sakura rushed forward when the two landed, a moment of hesitation sending her in Naruto’s direction first. It was a quick heal but he whined the whole time, under his breath, so quietly that she doubted Gaara heard him. Then she moved to Gaara and struggled to push down her blush when his head turned in her direction and his eyes moved to her face. The first time she healed him he was confused why she bothered but she never wavered.
By now he was used to it but still flinched whenever her bare fingers brushed against his bare skin. He could get punched over and over in a fight but the gentle touch of healing hands still unsettled him, she supposed. She had no idea why.
Naruto had a smug grin on his face as he wandered over to them, not noticing how Sakura was trying so hard not to stare back at Gaara, her fingers only trembling slightly every now and then.
And Gaara couldn’t stop the light groan that exited his mouth as Sakura’s hands accidentally brushed his skin at the distraction.
“Don’t be a baby.”
Sakura gave Naruto an irritated look and he obediently shut up.
They all waited in silence but she was having trouble focusing, again. Gaara flinched again and Sakura hesitated. Her chakra flickered and she forced herself to channel it back into her hands and focus on healing the redhead.
Sakura held her hand to his bare skin and tried to focus on healing him and not how surprised she was that Gaara had a six pack. It really was unfair.
.x.
A few months passed and Sakura was beginning to think that she’d imagined that blush on Gaara’s face when her fingers brushed along his skin. She hadn’t seen him much during the exams because he had come to Konoha to help officiate it - they were both Jounin so allowed to. If she’d known she would start to become infatuated with him she’d have signed up for that as well.
So she sat in the audience as the genin fought to impress the judges but she wasn’t watching the battles. Not really. She watched the redhead who’d been pressured into sharing the proctor duties with Naruto. She watched as they gave each other barely concealed glares - but Naruto’s was more obvious; so much so that the Hokage told him to bugger off and let Gaara do it all. Which only aggravated Gaara even more.
It was entertaining to everyone.
Sakura could have sworn that Gaara looked up at her when Naruto yelled at her from the ground to remind him to pummel the redhead later. The glance was so fast she believed she imagined it. But she was surprisingly excited either way. It meant that they were going to fight, giving her the excuse to touch the redhead again. To heal him of course.
She couldn’t wait.
But a few hours later when she went looking for them at the training ground to “accidentally” find them trying to kill each other, Sakura couldn’t find them anywhere. She figured they went to a different training ground so made the rounds between them. Nothing.
Another few hours later she gave up and decided to listen to her stomach. It was close to sunset and she was getting hungry. She stopped suddenly, spotting the familiar blond and red heads standing outside Ichiraku Ramen. They were talking animatedly; Naruto waving his hands around and Gaara’s arms crossed as he tapped his foot on the ground.
Then they made to move away from the shop and she kept watching but Gaara didn’t look in her direction. Something was different.
They weren’t fighting. They started laughing. And heading off toward other shops instead of fighting each other. They weren’t angry. And she wasn’t needed after all.
They were finally getting on?
.x.
Another month passed. Sakura was pining and she didn’t like it. After years of following Sasuke around amounted to nothing and she promised herself she’d never pine for guys again. It was their turn to pine for her! But she missed Gaara. She missed healing him after he and Naruto were done pummeling each other. The two were getting along and she didn’t like it.
She didn’t like that she didn’t like it. It was a good thing for inter-village relations. But Sakura was so useless when it came to guys that she didn’t know any other excuse to get close to Gaara without him knowing she liked him.
She was almost eighteen and she’d never been kissed or been out with anyone other than Ino and that didn’t count because they did it to make Sai drool, and Ino wanted his attention.
It was time to end her abysmal failure love life.
.x.
Sakura was digging through Tsunade’s files looking for missions to Suna. She knew she’d lost the plot. She was desperate. It had been several months since she last saw him and she was going crazy and it was getting painful. No matter what Gaara said when she told him she had to tell him how she felt. Pining for him was unhealthy for her.
Her inner won the fight and she was keeping her promise to herself.
“S Rank, land of lightning.” She mumbled and tossed the file back into its folder. Ten minutes later she found an A Rank for Suna but the people Tsunade had circled for the mission were Neji, Tenten and Naruto. She frowned, reading over the details. It sounded like it could use a medic and she wondered why the Gondaime hadn’t included one.
“Sneaking around I see.”
Startled, Sakura stood up so fast she knocked all the files onto the floor. “Lady Tsunade! You were supposed to be at a meeting.”
“It ended early.” Tsunade pointed at the pile and Sakura obediently bent to fix them up. “What’s this about?”
“I..I just wanted to ask for a mission,” she stuttered.
“Uh-huh.” Tsunade grabbed the files from her. “Suna?”
Sakura blushed. Did she know? She nodded.
“Figures.” Tsunade huffed. “The brat goes and makes friends with the Kazekage’s kid and you’re pining after him.”
Sakura lowered her eyes to the floor.
“Don’t be embarrassed, girl. I’ll add you to the team. Was thinking you might be good for it anyway. They could use a medic.”
Sakura nodded and looked up into the warm smile of her mentor.
Tsunade used the file to slap Sakura on the butt. “Go get him, kiddo!”
.x.
”Yes!” Naruto fist pumped the air as Tenten rolled her eyes and Neji mentally groaned. He was excited that Sakura was joining them.
They met at the front gate of Konoha and started moving out immediately.
“Thank goodness you’re coming,” Tenten said. “I didn’t much fancy being the mediator between Neji and Naruto.”
Sakura understood. But the three days they spent travelling to Suna all she could think of the seafoam eyes that were waiting for her. The nights spent in the tent she was sharing with Tenten and ignoring the arguments coming from the boys, her mind was elsewhere. Her bunkmate noticed but kindly didn’t mention it.
As they approached the walls of Suna, Sakura was so nervous she had to rub her sweaty palms on her clothes. He was waiting for them at the gates, alongside his brother and sister. The Kazekage was nowhere to be seen even though it was typical for him to greet allies.
But Gaara was a welcomed sight; his eyes widened slightly as they landed on Sakura. And a genuine smile was elicited from him. She was happy to see that he was happy to see her.
.x.
After they were given their duties and Sakura discovered this mission was just a cover as it turned out the Kazekage was retiring and Gaara had been named to replace his father.
They were here to get things ready for Tsunade’s official arrival. It all sounded so pompous and unnecessary but that was the nature of politics and inter-village relations.
Sakura worked tirelessly to help and wondered now what a medic could possibly be needed for, on this job. But she didn’t regret coming. At the end of the three days it took for them to set everything up, Gaara came to her and she returned his smiled.
“Naruto and I are going to spar and we could use a medic.”
She grinned. “Okay, let me just grab my pack.”
Whether he was doing this for himself or her she didn’t know. He gave her a knowing look as they walked together to a training ground he’d already arranged for the fight.
He didn’t flinch when she accidentally brushed his fingers, taking a water bottle from him as he got ready to stretch and prepare. In fact, his breath hitched and the blush was back on his cheeks.
She felt suddenly very confident and stepped over to him, kissing his cheek softly. His eyes widened and she blushed.
“For good luck.”
He nodded absently and moved to engage Naruto. Neji and Tenten were also nearby, taking the opportunity to sit in the shade and watch.
Several hours later Gaara and Naruto were both exhausted but neither needed any serious healing. Sakura still placed a hand on Gaara’s skin and healed his minor scratches.
“I like you,” she blurted and they both blushed. “I… wanted to tell you.”
He cleared his throat. “I like you too.”
She nodded, licking her lips and finishing her healing, then dropped her hands by her side as he continued to watch her. He had a thing for watching her.
“So.. uh. What now?”
“Now, I do what I’ve been wanting to do for months.”
Gaara licked his lips and then lowered his mouth to hers. She didn’t mind that he bit her bottom lip. Nor that his fingers found the hem of her clothes and started tugging absentmindedly. They were moving a bit fast but she had time to stop him and would do so if he pissed her off too much.
They kept kissing and kept touching each other even as Naruto’s voice rang nearby; the alarm he was sounding going unnoticed by the newly found lovers. Tenten attempted to shut him up, with Neji’s help, to leave Sakura and Gaara alone.
What was coming next wasn’t for them to see.
Sakura felt Gaara’s sand whipping up and teleporting them. She knew what was coming and though this was indeed fast, she didn’t care, for now.
For now she didn’t want to stop touching him. Or being touched.
.x.
