Top 3 Most Underrated Michael J. Fox Performances
3. Max Eriksson, Casualties of War
I just want to know how did he not win an Oscar for this performance? I mean, he demonstrated that he was more than the smart-aleck short know-it-all in this film. The desperation, the pain, the empathy that he felt for Oanh.
Part of what appeals to me about this performance is how Eriksson enlisted in the Army because he truly thought that the Vietnam War would do good, much like how a lot of soldiers enlisted in Iraq because they were told that it was the right thing to do. He went in, thinking that he would be helping people, and came out having witnessed the horrible truth of it. And Michael was able to portray that so beautifully. It wasn't that he gave the character depth; he was able to show the depth of the character, and not tell. Just look at the GIF above!
I reiterate-- he deserved an Oscar for this film.
2. Frank Bannister, The Frighteners
This movie... oh, God this movie...
I may be a little biased because of how fucking feral this movie makes me for him (and Trini Alvarado), but... God, he's brilliant in this.
Even when Frank was in asshole-mode, you liked him. You kinda wanted him to succeed in conning the whole town. That is some Robert Preston-level shit. Yet, when you see how much of an asshole he can be, rather than hating him, you want him to rise above it and fix his issues.
Michael's chemistry with Trini is just unbelievable. From the minute they first share a scene, you can feel that spark. You root for them as a couple, and as individuals.
And the interrogation room scene and the holding cell scene... in my opinion, they're probably some of his best work. You can feel everything that Frank is feeling right in your gut, and you can sense him as he is forced to confront his grief and his guilt.
Just... I have a lot of thoughts that I have trouble putting down now.
1. Jamie Conway, Bright Lights Big City
I curse every critic that gave a negative review to this movie and said that Michael was miscast. In my opinion, he was absolutely perfect.
I think the fact that he had such a wholesome reputation helped with the point of the story, of how anyone can get lost in addiction and various vices. It's especially poignant, considering his real-life struggles with alcoholism.
I will admit, this may have beat out Frighteners for number one because this movie was the final push for him and Tracy to get together. Even though their scenes were so few, they had so much chemistry that you were left wanting more of Jamie and Vicky.
My personal favorite was the phone call scene near the end; just his portrayal of grief and pain after a year of trying to suppress it with addiction makes your heart go out to him, and his realization that he needs help really rocks you to your core.

It's quite funny seeing the difference of having car problems in my current place vs my hometown
One big difference being that I can't call my dad to come help me 💀
But others are when I was sitting in the Walmart parking lot with my little brother (in my hometown), we had someone stop and ask if we needed help and when we said no he moved right on and my dad came and towed us back to his house with his truck.
Here, I can be elbow deep in engine grease, either struggling or not, and everyone (mostly men) will simply stare at me, like it's incomprehensible. Maybe it's because I'm fem-presenting, maybe it's because they always take their cars to the shop. I don't know. I've had a man come onto his balconey with his friends and watch me. Still not sure if that was their entire reason for being outside or if it was a coincidence.
I have had a few times where men will come up and ask if I need help, stare for a minute or two, and then leave, but I've had on more than one occasional, men come up and simply try to do the work for me, which is very frustrating because while I may not be an expert, I don't appreciate someone simply walking up to my car and start doing things of their own volition. Like, at least ask first. I'll let you know if I could use an extra set of hands.
I don't know. Just something I noticed.

Three things happen on the day Kix finally gets the clearance he needs to scan Tup:
Tup has a terrible migraine that sparks some kind of "episode" (disorientation, bouts of memory loss, mood swings, the same stuff he would have experienced on Ringo Vida) that ends with him under heavy supervision.
There's a full moon, so the Were-eel is out and about and in need of being kept away from Tup so it doesn't interfere with the medics currently working on figuring out what's happened to the poor kid.
Everyone is so busy either watching Tup, keeping the natborn officers and Jedi away from the barracks, or overall trying to help find answers to Tup's peculiar condition, that no one remembers to lock the barracks doors.
The Were-eel knows how to open unlocked doors, and it is very curious as to what's outside the space it's become acquainted with...

Nightingale and Cinnabar Deserve A Vacation
Hello my fellow Chiefs of Minos, I am posting this to remind you all that there are exactly two individuals who qualify as having even a modicum of sanity within the walls of Minos and we are not one of them.
So please remember to show your support to the pair of individuals responsible for keeping Minos from descending into the pits of utmost primordial chaos and dragging all of Dis down with it in an orgy of madness and chaos.
Because, let us all be honest with ourselves for a moment here, without Nightingale being the hyper competent and dutiful Adjutant she is, and Cinnabar being the security expert and loyal guard she is, Minos would have become something straight out of an asylum workers worst nightmares.
So let us all agree these two deserve a chance to take a vacation and relax and not have to worry about coming back home to find Minos either in ruins or having declared succession from dis and began a campaign of world conquest while the chief sits and vibes with some of the other sinners.
With that said, let us offer our gratitude towards these two brave souls who shoulder the weight of being the dams that hold back the flood of madness that is the antics of Minos and offer them a toast to their health and sanity.
Because if they ever lose either then all of Dis is going to descend headfirst into the hell it claims to have risen above.
Is this a crack post? Maybe.
Or perhaps a glimpse into a future idea for here or ao3...only time will tell.
Till next time.

"Thus, the new hostile designs would not cause surprise among those they are targeting, nor, definitely, anger among the educated. The latter never question why some people need to take shelter in the open; we just accept the situation as normal and natural, that the poor deserve no better, and that public facilities are ours alone. When the society is itself hostile to the weakest, hostile architecture seems – not monstrous – but the perfect solution.
India is not likely to see such protests, nor even such a great psychological impact. Because we hardly have any concept of really public spaces anyway, and never had. There were no public spaces, open to all, till the Europeans arrived. The nationalists like to blame European rule for all India’s problems, but it was under their rule that the growing cities were provided the first designed public open spaces, and also the consciousness that these are important for public health. But the Indian governments that have followed have been uncomfortable with such things. Because caste society doesn’t believe in equal access to anything. Hierarchy is the norm here, and public spaces don’t go well with hierarchy. Thus, even pavements (which are used by all, but more by the poor) are seen as a waste here. And Bombay, India’s richest city, which ranks very low in per capita public open space among the world’s cities, and whose streets are full of people sleeping rough in the dead of the night, figures in lists of the world’s most hostile architecture.
The public that is considered worthy of having public facilities here is just the so-called ‘middle class’, which cannot afford the private recreation spaces of the super-elites, but is not much less elite itself, belonging as it does to the top 10-15% of the population in wealth and privilege. That’s why bus stops will have pipes as seating, but not airports – the ‘public’ in the two kinds of public transport is different. That’s also why public open spaces in Indian cities are so few, with none at all in villages – they are aimed at just this 10-15%. And it is this urban educated ‘middle class’ which demands that public spaces charge for entry, and unashamedly asserts that only this will keep unwanted/dirty/rowdy people out."

Everyone loving the thiramin post-
You ever heard of lythari?
My initial intention back in 2021 was, when I got BG3, to roll a lythari hidden as a moon elf or drow, who would fall in love with Halsin as her thiramin, and him vice versa.
Lythari are true lycanthropes, blessed by Selune. They transform into true wolves, and their nature is bestowed only on willing elves through a mysterious ritual that leaves the elf with bite marks. A lythari can only reproduce with another lythari. Furthermore, lythari are very rare, and very shy.
How interesting to roll a lythari kidnapped and infected, forced to walk among more civilized paths, probably terrified, only to find her thiramin.
Plus, to find the perfect place to settle down- Thaniel's domain- and form a pack which would teach the other inhabitants how to flourish in nature?
