fliqpy is seated in a chair and blindfolded. i forkfeed him (gently) different meats in an attempt to see how far his cannibalistic roots will go in the face of the unknown.

i offer him a small chunk of meat, completely randomized in its picking. he chews with his mouth open— it's gross. "chicken." he says flatly.

okay. that was an easy one. i feed him another. he barely finishes swallowing before he speaks. "pork."

i frown. too easy? i give him a darker one: it smells gamey. there's a short pause once he swallows, like he's thinking it over. then he answers, "kangaroo."

i'm aghast. i feed him more, hoping his tastebuds would eventually blend the flavor of flesh and muscle together to the point where he couldn’t recognize the difference between anything. "goose."

"lamb."

"koala."

"shark."

"dog," he's quiet again. "and horse."

my last resort, which was feeding him two different portions at the same time in hopes he'd mix them up, had failed. i stare at him tiredly and gingerly remove his blindfold. he looks at me like nothing's wrong. i forgot what i was even trying to figure out in the first place. the pursuit of knowledge was not worth it.

Lamb sausage shakshuka with crumbled goat cheese for breakfast today. This breakfast is literally a win for me. What happened is this: here in Brazil, everything happens on WhatsApp. Deliveries. Doctor’s appointments. Taxi rides. It’s all there, but you have to speak Portuguese. Y’all know I have terrible FOMO, so when we moved here, I joined Every. Single. WhatsApp Group. Even when I only understood like maybe 1 out of every 20 messages. One day one of my groups had a lamb sausage giveaway, so I entered. AND I WON. Hence, shakshuka. Guys, don’t ask me where this lamb sausage came from or why there was a contest in the first place. I don’t know.
