Feb. 7, 2024 update from Kaja over on Patreon (summarized)
She's back in hospital and taking appropriate meds. Recovering but "feeling rotten". Probably no pages this week (Phil is still going to the Magic convention in Denver this weekend, because hospital stays do nothing for finances).

Conlang Year Days 22 & 23
Had a productive time coming up with proto-forms for flora and fauna terms (especially fauna, there's like fifteen of them), and since my principles for what gets a proto-form were basically the same for both, these two days get their own post.
If you're time-travelling—especially if you're crossing large distances—having a basic word for a particular species of animal or plant is deeply useless. Let's say you have a word for "crow." If you're hanging around in our present day, that's all well and good. If you go back in time far enough, before crows evolved, it's a completely pointless word. If you go forward in time far enough, to the ages after the collapse of human civilization and the rise of corvid sapience, you might be able to keep using that word, but it's not exactly ideal for what you're dealing with.
And what if you veer off into a completely different timeline? What if you end up somewhere where reptiles occupy most of the niches mammals fulfill in our world, and you're hanging out with the lizardfolk learning to take care of their giant lizard cattle and how to avoid the four-foot-tall crocodilians that hunt in packs? Where are your words now?
No, time travellers don't need or want a word for "crow." They need words that encompass three things:
What does it look like and/or do, generally? Is this a tall plant, or is it more of a shrub? Is this a big animal, or is it too small to pay much mind to? Does it fly or swim?
Is it going to kill me? If so, how?
Can I eat it?
Day 22: Flora
There are a couple kinds of "flora" particular to time travellers. Aside from those, basic roots for plants and plant parts say nothing whatsoever about the specific kind of plant, painting them in more general terms.
*sali: Translates as "grass" generally, but it encompasses all small, ground-covering flora—grass, moss, lichen, even small flowers. *nene: Fruit, seeds, nuts, and root vegetables. Essentially, any plant part that can be eaten safely and which isn't a leaf or flower. *kota: The opposite of *nene. All plants and plant parts that are poisonous. *jumini: Trees and other tall plants *pida: Leafy, low plants *jilu: Flowers (or other colorful markers a plant may have) *zaso: Leaves or similar (conifer needles, for instance) *maju: "Lichen" in translation, a kind of flora that is usually imperceptible within a timeline but which can cause major alterations in the events or physics of a timeline *zomo: Timeline Rot
Day 23: Fauna
I'm under no illusion that these two lists are complete. I added three proto-forms to this one while writing up this post. Still, I feel I've covered most anything that I'll need, and if I do end up creating some more forms, I can add them to the final proto-forms post, which... I haven't been closely looking at the preview of each week's prompts, but it seems that'll be in a couple days.
You'll notice that several of these forms are grouped by the general shape of the creature, differentiated by how dangerous the animal in question is—or why it's dangerous.
*kaja: Bird of prey (a note: "bird" does not necessarily mean "bird and bird alone." Anything that flies and is larger than the average insect might end up under one of these first three categories.) *denede: Small bird, like a songbird, for instance *date: Gamebird or large bird in general *jopo: Pest of humans (like an insect which drinks blood) *suti: Pest of food (like a mouse which sneaks into grain stores or a squirrel which attacks garden produce) *zitu: Pest of plants or structures (like a larva which bores into trees, an insect which eats the leaves of crops, or a woodpecker which has decided to set up shop on the side of your house) *kuna: Harmless small invertebrate (pay it no mind) *napa: Large carnivore (might eat you) *kalopo: Large herbivore (might be good food for a group) *mika: Small nonvenomous animal (might be good food for one person) *najato: Small venomous animal (proceed with caution) *kolo: Poisonous animal (never mind, this one isn't food) *dopu: Aquatic animal *poju: Harmless microbe (the average time traveller understands germ theory) *tino: Harmful microbe (and appreciates having a basic word for the things that cause disease) *medu: Outsider (anything that typically doesn't enter into linear time, except for:) *pekule: Time Worm (there it is) *siza: Humanoid (that's you! And pretty much anyone you'll ever talk to!)

picking flowers on devils point - Fic Preview
Here's a small preview of a collab fic that @thatrandomlittlegirl and I are planning for Persona 2 :3c we swear we're normal about this game ⭐ Hope y'all enjoy because this is gonna be a long boi Notes from Kaja: it features Mawi's favorite sprite of Tatsuya <3 In the metallic sheen that perfectly preserved his friends’ memories, Tatsuya stared at his own reflection, watching and waiting for something to happen. He could feel Apollo’s flame burning brightly in his chest, his other self no doubt trying to momentarily seize control to move, do something. To save his life. But Tatsuya knew that he had to face this punishment head on. He dug his grave and now he was lying in it, atop the shining altar, ready to sacrifice himself up to his friends for his blasphemy.
‘Accept your punishment,’ he told himself, eyes still trained on his reflection that he only belatedly realized was trembling slightly. All those lectures he gave during demon contacts about what being a man meant came back to bite him. Tatsuya focused all his energy on keeping his eyes opened, staring at the blade that dug deeper into his neck until a thin line of blood dribbled down onto the scattered flowers surrounding him. This was only fair, he needed to keep looking, to take his death with dignity and grace, he— …he closed his eyes. He could feel his body shake, small tremors wracking his entire frame as he cursed his own cowardice. A wet cough pushed out a few spider lily petals from his lungs, decorating the space next to his head with a pattern resembling blood spatters. “These flowers will mark your grave.” They sure will, Jun. In the darkness, he could hear the swish of metal swinging through the air and braced himself for the final blow. “TATSUYA!” Katsuya and the others ran through the front gates of the shrine, calls of his name laced with desperation and panic as the situation before them sank in. He could hear Maya gasp and Katsuya yell his name louder, afraid to lose his one and only little brother. He squeezed his eyes tighter at hearing the despair in Maya’s voice. He didn’t want her to see this. Didn’t want her to suffer like they had on the Other Side. But fate was always a cruel thing, wasn’t it? “Tatsuya, what are you doing!?” “Little Suou!” “Hey, kid!” “Tatsuya-kun, please! Not like this…” [Is this really how you want to die?] It was only for a split second. The fiery will to continue on ignited for the first time since he had awoken to his memories. Without thinking, Tatsuya’s hand reached up to grip the blade of the sword that threatened his life. The edge bit into his flesh, the searing pain almost overtaking his senses, but he didn’t care. Because in that moment, he knew that he had to live so that he could atone. Properly. If not for his sake, then for theirs. “I’ll accept my punishment, Jun,” Tatsuya said, shoving the sword away and standing defiantly next to the altar that would have been his tomb. Blood flowed freely down his palm but determination blazed through his eyes, clear and bright. “But not now. Not until I can fix my mistake."

Tales from Aurea - Session 2.5 Now Posted!
I'm back again to announce that Session 2.5 - A Look Back: Jo and Kaja is now posted in full on Royal Road! You can read it at this link here and/or check out the preview under the cut. Enjoy!
Chapter Summary: The clock turns back to the depths of winter, and the moment when Jo and Kaja first meet in the isolation of the Goldenwoods. But within their story of friendship and survival runs a vein of malice, as the identities of those who hunt Kaja from the shadows are revealed.
Taglist (ask to be +/-): @drippingmoon, @kainablue, @splashinkling, @space-writes, @aroyalpaininthecass
Curious what this story is about? Check out the WIP Introduction here
Jo padded along, her large, furry paws gliding effortlessly atop the snow. She hadn’t found a meal all morning and was beginning to get as discouraged as she was hungry. Winter was always difficult; many of the animals hibernated for weeks on end and the ones who stayed active would only come out for brief periods to forage. If she didn’t catch them during that time, she would have to go without.
The sun was positioned high in the sky when Jo finally caught a whiff of something enticing. She paused and sniffed the ground. The snow had been dug away to expose the frozen foliage underneath, the twigs stripped bare of their bark. Mountain deer, down in the lowlands in search of food—and they had passed through recently. Feeling the faintest hope teasing her rumbling belly, Jo continued onward.
A branch snapped, piercing the silence, then another and another. Jo raised her head, ears swiveled forward. A herd of deer burst out from the bushes, eyes bulging and sides heaving, too panicked to realize they were running towards a sabercat. Jo froze, stunned, as they tore by, her hunger momentarily forgotten. She had lived in the Goldenwoods for years and had never seen deer behave that way before. Ears alert and nose twitching, she waited for whatever was pursuing the deer to emerge and face her. Yet nothing came forth and Jo was left alone in the muted tranquility of the snow-covered forest.
Following the path of destruction that the deer had left in their wake, Jo picked up an unfamiliar scent wrapped within the lingering aroma left behind by the frightened animals. Her ears stood at attention, her every footfall was slow and deliberate. Slinking through the undergrowth, she soon came upon a small glade. A peculiar layer of thick ice, rippling from a central point, carpeted the ground and unnaturally large icicles weighed down the branches above. Amidst this odd crystalline cocoon lay a small, lifeless shape.
Jo thought it was a human child at first, clad in strange clothes that looked more appropriate for summer than winter. Puzzled, she waited and watched. But when the child didn’t move, she approached for a closer look. That was when Jo realized that she hadn’t found a human at all. In fact, she had never seen a person like this child before.
She looked very much like a thin, human girl but with long, white hair, which was a most unusual color for a young human to have. She was laying on her stomach, her head to one side, her eyes closed and jaw slack. Four twisted horns protruded from her head and she had a lizard-like tail covered in white scales and fins. For a moment, Jo thought she was partially buried in snow but soon discovered that the “snow” was actually a smattering of tiny white scales across her cream-colored skin.
Jo investigated the surrounding area for signs of anyone else, possibly the girl’s parents, but there was only one set of footprints left in the snow. The prints themselves were long and irregular as if the child had been struggling to drag herself forward when she finally collapsed.
Jo circled back and examined the girl once more. She was alive but wouldn’t be much longer without help. Out of options and unwilling to leave her to die, Jo positioned the girl across her back and made a long and careful journey home.

Thoughts on our birb king, Kaja? I just think he's pretty neat, same goes to Uranus and Edith/Phylax.
They're not talked about as much in the outside of the tumblr part of fandom, sadly
I'm more than happy to pay attention those who left out from the community.
Kaja is curious, everything about you is interesting to this ancient birb. He'll study you closely, his gaze might be intense but it's full of adoration. His touch is light, too light in fact. He'll treat you as if you're made of glass. Kaja touches your nose with his beak, it's his way of kissing you.
Uranus is protective, he has a strong sense of protection when it comes to those or things important to him. Uranus is strict when it comes to your safety, he always saw himself as a protector. His huge form looming over yours, he's pretty big. Uranus likes to pat/ruffle your hair as a show of affection.
Edith is caring, she has a big heart and is not afraid to share some of her love to those who accept it. Edith loves physical affection and would be really happy if it's you who holds her hand or caress her cheek. When she blushes, from ears to neck she blushes like crazy. Love is a strong emotion.

Keeping the old one up for nostalgia's sake, but man my girl Roadkill has EVOLVED. Most of my COD fan characters have little to nothing on their stories, may just be me or it may be bias. (It's both)
Lenore "Roadkill" Winsidor
Blurb Summary:
A hardass and middle-aged southerner. She once found herself in Alamas within her 40's but escaped with an alliance towards a mercenary company. Now she finds peace in her 60's as Laswell's grumpy wife. (She looks more fucked in her 60's than the design below.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basic Info
Cisgender Female 5'3 132 IB. Ages (usually drawn as): 40's-60's range. Southern accent (Not present in reference audio) Christian American (From Georgia, specifically.) To be transparent, somehow, I managed to mash people's voices together to make this "cover". (Before Kits.ai went to shit)
Personality/ Behavior
Like the blurb said, Lenore is a hard-ass. Can and will order your ass off aggressively. Due to past traumas, she especially does it to protect herself, using her menacing status. She does have a soft spot for kids, having 3 (technically) of her own. Her life experiences geared her into salvaging the small sentimental memories, like nicknames, trinkets, etc. But her experiences also allow her to give some... questionable opinions and advice. Born and raised in a short-lived Christan household, she was devoted in God; over time he "took" two of her kids away, resulting in Lenore losing faith over time. Although her southern accent is strong, it does fade with certain situations of vulnerability. If she isn't kicking ass (and if she has the freedom), she's painting, hunting or taking care of her kids (when she had them).
Relationships
Format: Name + relationship/company + vitality status, misic. Nuclear Family Mother (Dead) Brother (Unknown) Lilith Winsidor, daughter (Miscarriage) Mary Rainfield, 1st born (Dead) Bowen Winsidor/ Laswell, 2nd born (Alive) Kate Laswell, wife during 60's+ (Alive) Coworkers Kaja "Howler" Quimmeq, YHF mercenary (Alive) Svetka "Tigress" Malov, YHF mercenary (Alive, ex-lover) Valeria Garza, Alamas (Alive)
Backstory Media
Gallery
Outdated-ish design. (The scar, mainly.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you for reading. Lenore means so much to me over the time I created her.

Wrote my first fic in a HOT minute with an OC I made specifically for the COD-verse and I love her very much and would love to talk about her much more in detail than is revealed about her in this blurb but here is some writing, I tried my best!
It's a Velikan fic that I'm gonna work on slowly that is intended to be incredibly slow-burn with a lot of hurt/comfort elements. I don't have a lot of free time in my personal life, so I have been just kind of writing as I can and it's been a nice stress relief to add pictures to my Pinterest board cause I've got this story in my head but I don't always have time to write all the stuff down!
But I tried to get some of the story, and character set up done here so idk let me know what to fix, I would like to get better at writing but also this is mostly for fun haha
Fluorescent lights buzzed inside the ceiling beams of the room, joining the sounds of wheels that squealed against the laminate floor and the occasional intercoms that would page a doctor in the infirmary.
The Shadow Company had come back from an operation gone bad with many operatives covered in blood, with some even missing extremities when they'd finally been airlifted back to the base's hospital. Fortunately, there had been no casualties under the medical wing's care so far, and the staff intended to keep it that way.
“Hey, Doc, your next patient is ready to see you over in Room 2,” a nurse, Adrian, called over from the nurse's station, looking over at the doctor in question with a strange look as she exited the previous patient's room.
The doctor gave a tired smile to Adrian and nodded her thanks to the blonde, too exhausted to question her staff's weird expression. She could just be seeing things, having been on her feet for the last 14 hours, trying to keep blood on the inside of people's bodies rather than outside of it.
She readjusted her reading glasses to sit atop her head as she moved over to Room 2, grabbing the chart that had been placed on the wall next to its door. Skimming over its contents, she was relieved to see that her day seemed to have come over its peak and was finally coming down to a more manageable pace; this man was being seen for a follow-up on some stitches he had received some weeks ago.
Something unique in this man's file caught her attention, though; the diagnosis of selective mutism with no other context was listed in medical history. She was curious how he managed to pass selection into the military in general, let alone get into a PMC, but she wasn't paid enough to ask questions such as that. It was going to be more important for her to find out how she was going to communicate with him about his healing status and any questions he may have.
Alexander Manos (operator name: Velikan), the file read.
With two knocks on the metal door, she announced her arrival and opened the door with one hand, the other still holding onto the clipboard as she entered the room.
“Alexander?” She prompted, looking up at what she could only describe as a giant heap of muscle and terrifying armor, trying not to make her initial shock obvious by her facial expression. The man had just come back from a deployment if she was to judge from the faint odor of gunpowder, man stink, and blood alone. His layers upon layers of tactical armor pads made his shoulders appear impossibly wide, and his mask gave the impression of a fearsome red tiger with its painted sabers outreached and ready to bite at any given opportunity.
There was a moment of silence where the two simply stared at each other before Alexander nodded hesitantly in acknowledgment to her question. The fact Kaja was unable to see his face made her uncomfortable given she wanted to be able to interpret his expressions at least if she wasn't able to hear him speak, but she wasn't about to argue with 250+ pounds of pure muscle over it.
“My name is Dr.Magnusson, I'm the new doctor here at Shadow Company. They've put you under my care after Dr.Fort was stationed elsewhere,” Kaja began awkwardly. Having done several dozen introductions over the last week had not made her any better at them.  Truthfully, she wished that she could just skip past them altogether.
Alexander made no indication that he was going to respond to her introduction, so Kaja continued without missing a beat, “It looks like you're being seen today to have your stitches in your arm checked on?”
He made no indication that he had heard anything she'd said, simply looking straight ahead at her. Or, she had to assume he was looking at her, since his mask was still on. If she didn't know better, Kaja would think he was ignoring her deliberately.
“Are you being seen for your stitches today?” Kaja repeated, enunciating her words a little clearer, curious if she had mumbled them earlier by any chance.
Alexander simply shifted in the hospital chair, moving his head up to look at the ceiling for a moment as he let out an audible sigh of clear annoyance.
"Not deaf," he finally grunted out in a raspy, baritone voice.
“Sorry,” Kaja was taken aback that she had received a verbal response from him at all, “I just want to know the best way I can talk with you. Would a pen and paper help? Would you like to type it on your phone?”
She was trying to think of solutions the best she could on the fly, knowing she still had other patients waiting to see her as well. Alexander’s head perked a bit once he heard her listing the options that she had listed, but he settled back into his chair quickly, crossing his arms.
A moment of silence fell between them before she continued, “I'll need to see your arm and make sure it's healing properly.”
She moved closer to him at a balanced pace, watching as his covered face came back down from eyeing the ceiling to stare at her again.
“Alexander, I want to help you. Can you help me do that?” Kaja asked softly, reaching her hand out to touch his arm where his stitches were.
He leaned away from her, angling his body off of the bed as if she had some contagious disease. He pulled the arm she was reaching for out of her range and straightened his posture in a clear attempt to intimidate her with his stature alone.
Now, she was starting to lose her patience. She gripped the pen tightly to her clipboard in an attempt to calm herself down as she took another step towards Alexander and lowered her voice, so no wandering passerby could overhear.
“Hey, I know maybe this situation is hard for you for your reasons, but you are putting me in a really difficult position at the moment for other reasons. If you don't want to be here, I'm not going to make you stay. But it is my job as your doctor to try to help you, and I have seen too many people almost die today from infections. So, if your name comes across my operating table, and it's from your arm wound getting infected, do you know how tempted I'm going to be to just amputate it?”
Was it a professional way to talk to her patient? Not in any capacity, and she definitely would have been fired if anyone had heard about it. Did it seem to resonate with her patient? Enough for him to start removing his gear slowly to display his healing scar.
First, came his helmet. When she saw his face, she almost regretted threatening him with amputation. She had seen he was a few years her senior from his records, but his face certainly reflected it. Loose black waves swept back from his face and greased down from his helmet in an almost mullet-like fashion. He had a haircut she was almost certain would be considered out of regulation, but that wasn't something she was going to fuss over at the moment when he was finally complying with her wishes.
Next, she noticed the years of exhaustion in his eyes that manifested as dark purple circles beneath his dark brown eyes, like freshly watered graveyard dirt, cold and secretive. His expression didn't seem to waver from a neutral stare, despite her attempt to placate him with another gentle smile as thanks.
The silence continued while he continued removing his gear, the display almost comical with just how much he had had on in the first place. She'd never seen someone with so much padding, yet he was still so broad underneath it all, built like a concrete wall. Kaja wondered what his daily regimen for the past ten years had been for him to have been in that kind of shape.
Once he had removed all of his padding, he was finally able to roll up his undershirt enough to reveal the scar Dr.Fort had previously sewn up along Alexander’s forearm.
“There’s nothing that can be done about it at this point," Kaja sighed with a tone of frustration as she looked up at the man with disapproval, "But, I can tell you didn’t let it heal completely before you went back to duty. It’s healed crooked in a few areas after you ripping back open. Do you see it, here and here?” Kaja attempted to point at the disfigured scar tissue on Alexander’s arms, but he seemed beyond disinterested in hearing about it as he turned away to stare at the wall.
With a sigh, Kaja removed her hands from his arm and backed away from the patient’s table, giving him some personal space she could tell he would appreciate.
“So when I see you in here when you get hurt, and I tell you to rest, you’re going to go right back to the field, is that it?” Kaja asked in a deadpan tone as she crossed her arms and leaned against the handwashing counter.
Alexander did not respond, instead rolling his sleeve back down to cover his arm and placing his gear into an orderly pile that he would be able to carry once he was dismissed.
“No wonder Dr.Fort had to go,” Kaja teased with a smirk, “He had to leave for his sanity, huh?”
That quip got a small snort out of Alexander.
Being able to make him laugh made Kaja feel a little better about threatening him with amputation earlier, at least.
“Alright, well, Alexander, if you have no other complaints about your health, then you are released from my care for now, and you are free to check out at the nursing station at the front.”
Alexander wordlessly gathered his armored plates and gear into his arms, picked it up, and left the patient room. In any other circumstance, Kaja would have felt incredibly insulted (okay, maybe she still did, just a bit.)
But, she did manage to get some kind of a reaction out of someone she could have been thoroughly convinced was an android up until the very end of the session, so she had to take her wins where she could get them.
When she exited the room, she was immediately pulled off to the side by Adrian, the nurse who had called her to the room in the first place. The blonde woman had a look of plain guilt on her face as she held Kaja’s arms.
“I’m so sorry, the other doctor was busy, and Alexander was next in the queue, and I-”
“Adrian,” Kaja interrupted the nurse firmly, “What in the sweet hell are you talking about?”
“We all know Alexander can be really… difficult to handle, and we didn’t want you to have to deal with any of those kinds of cases with you still being so new. I just didn’t have a choice, but I’m still really sorry. Are you okay?” She asked, looking Kaja over, seemingly checking for injuries, much to Kaja’s concern.
“I’m fine,” Kaja laughed, trying to brush off the idea that she might need to be worried about the fact that she could be injured on the job here, “Honestly, I think he kind of warmed up to me at the end there.”
Kaja stated the end with a smug grin, raising her eyebrows as Adrian’s jaw dropped in disbelief and Kaja simply shrugged.
Over at the nursing station, Alexander watched the display discreetly and rolled his eyes, snatching a single pink hard candy from the infirmary candy jar on his way out. As he walked out of the double doors, he unwrapped the sweet and popped the strawberry candy into his mouth with a satisfied hum.
What a weird fucking doctor, he thought to himself. At least she's kind of entertaining. I guess I'll keep seeing her for now.

(autumn in the city, random photos from the last few weeks)
saturday, 21. october 2023
i’m home, came back for the weekend to my hometown after a few weeks, to recharge batteries a bit, (to wash my laundry, since we still don’t have a washer at the flat), to breathe the clean air of the countryside for a change, to have a quiet night and a dreamless sleep
because i had a rough week or so, and it got bad in my head, i need to write down a few of the good things,
events:
catch-ups with my friends over the weeks: the boys, anna, jakub, terezie, karolina
5sos concert (12.10) (the best concert ever) (they were absolutely amazing and i’m so glad i impulsively bought the ticket)
signal festival prague (14.10) (so cool, met new people)
louis tomlinson concert (19.10) (he played chicago? oh my god?!) (still not over it) (the best concert ever, emotionally)
things i’ve treated myself with:
ring and earings at vietnamese sapa market (so pretty!)
five new books (i’m supposed to be on a book buying ban, but eh, ehmmm), the picture of dorian gray and selected plays by oscar wilde, diaries and the complete stories by franz kafka, and lastly, on the road by jack kerouac
salmon slices on sale (yummy)
steak tartare (tataráček) and beer at the pub near our flat with my flatmate after a long monday (the czech aesthetic, you wouldn’t get it)
bought me a louis tomlinson merch tshirt at the concert (so cool, my little bro approved)
fluffy scarf
honorable mentions:
my mate nomi, love her for always being down to skipping useless classes with me (it’s always like “u wanna skip?” “do u even have to ask?”) (or texting “not going to the first class, hold me a seat for the next one?” “not going either” “lmao nice”)
the phonecall with my little brother, when i helped him fry an onion for meat dumplings and he still buggered it at first, and before he finally managed it, i catched a bus from public laundry, had a 10’ ride, then walked to the flat, and even managed to hang the wet laundry (made my day, truly)
my flatmate kaja, for being my partner in crime, our texts when we’re only in the next room, our late night coffees at the kitchen, and for our understanding for each other because we’re the same mentally ill bitches
the one spliff with my best friend, dunno what we put in it other than normal, but it was goodah
fics i need to recommend because holy fuck:
written on the heart by who_la_hoop
pathological people pleaser by rweoutofthewoods
(and basically whatever fic those two wrote)

Um so i guess i got the gist of the gurps spoilers but like would you mind sharing some more deets please? how does tarvek the neat-story-breaking victorian waif finally fit in then?
I think the entire thing was just "Gil has Storm King blood, only a few people know about it" (I don't own the GURPs book and can't find the picture of it which was posted). Combined with Orotine saying there's conflict among the Muses about which of Andronicus' lines to consider ascendent this makes it sound like he has an equal claim to Tarvek.
I may not be the best source of information since my amusement over this has led me to overstate the case, Gil's claim isn't necessarily superior - I suspect the Foglios are also unsure whose claim they want to consider superior right now.
As for Tarvek...
There's been Word of God that he originally wasn't meant to be a big part of the story post-Sturmhalten, but Kaja really liked him so he stayed. He may have been intended to die, but I don't have a source on that.
I do have a theory, which is really just me theorising, and have had for a while that Tarvek's original role in the narrative was to introduce the Storm King, the prophecy, the Muses, etc. because Gil doesn't care enough about those myths to be the one to do it. So when Gil started taking on Storm themes and Otilia was revealed we'd know the significance. (I did not suspect Gil of being blood related, oddly enough, I just thought maybe the Storm King wasn't as hereditary a title as commonly supposed, since Andronicus himself hadn't inherited anything.)
I suspect that's what Brawl was referencing by calling him Fridge Bait XD
The story breaking is speculation on my part. The Foglios had book 2 planned before book 1, iirc, and Tarvek wasn't intended to exist when they planned it. So Gil being Storm King by blood has sent me into conniptions because I'm looking at the story going... oh wait, if Tarvek wasn't here I'd know exactly where this was going and I wonder if the Foglios are in the same boat.

Shin Megami Tensei V:  Second Step
Fought the first boss, and it was pathetic.
-kaja skills only apply to a single target for a single turn.  In Nocturne they were all-target and essential.  Now they are as useless as Pulinpa.
The game is completely indecisive about what kind of Demon Apocalypse they want, and so you quickly reunite with a fellow human that was conveniently given a demon summoning app.  *headdesk*  The epic battle between God and the demons he cast out, that we are told at length about in boring exposition, becomes nothing more than a tool for humans to use with a cellphone app?
Instead of having quick transitions, it was showy transitions, which means you have to wait for the game to finish it’s showy transition before you can select a target.
The game explicitly tells you what strengths and weaknesses an enemy has in combat, and instead of doing this unobtrusively, does this in a show way that slows the game down.
You cannot activate Auto-Attack while in the middle of an attack, you have to wait for the game to completely reset before using it.
Auto-heal sounds like a simple and easy way to keep the game going, if the game didn’t add 100 more ways to slow it down.  Auto-heal also means you can’t strategically use your resources, which was absolutely essential in Shin Megami Tensei III:  Nocturne.
The game will cluster a number of enemies together, and these are all enemy groups that have to be fought.  This also extremely reduces the variety of enemies you can face in an area, as they are all preset, while making it feel like progress slows down to a crawl.  Even if you fight the same number of enemy groups while moving through an area, instead of being spread out, you instead fight 3 identical groups right beside each other, and then have nothing to do but run in the purposefully shitty wasteland environments.  This is probably why they added find-the-shinnies.
The game uses Miracles to increase your abilities in a way you can control.  This sounds like an improvement, until you realize that it’s just a boring fetch quest for Glory, (fragments of God’s power), rather than say, epic boss battles?
The  game manages to overcomplicate and oversimplify everything at the same time.
Bosses manage to have less emotional impact than a single group of obstructive Pretas did in Nocturne.  Rather than powerful demons controlling various factions vying for power, you have Abscesses, that are just powerful points of Magatsuhi that draw demons looking to feast on the magical power.
I hate the fucking AI voice every - single - time I hear it.  He just ruins every part of the game, including shooing away a potential ally while telling you to make allies.  He doesn’t once say that the demon is less trustworthy than any of the other random demons you recruit.  I honestly don’t care if she betrays me later it, it’s my mistake to make.  I can correct it in my next playthrough.  He also narrates things that the Demi-Fiend managed to silently narrate by himself in Megaten:  Nocturne.

Dear Creator Letter (rarepair event):
I haven't done this style of exchange before, so I hope this is useful to you folks!
I generally prefer fics about either getting together, or facing an outside conflict together. I'm not a fan of plots that feature almost breaking up due to interpersonal conflicts. If they almost break up due to an outside force (e.g. a third party is trying to push one into a political marriage, someone is kidnapped, that sort of thing), then it's fine, but I don't like 'well, you work too much and it's really putting a strain on the relationship' type stuff. Speedbumps on the way to the relationship are fine, though.
Tropes I enjoy or am open to:
Time-travel
No Order 66/Fix-it
Outsider POV
Working with/around each other's PTSD with each other
Raising children together
Arranged/political marriage
Epistolary elements (not the whole fic)
Hurt/Comfort (NOT whump)
Space OSHA and Space Paperwork and Space Logistics
When the Force does something really weird
When the Jedi blame Mortis (or Morai) for the Force doing something really weird
I enjoy pretty much any kind of gender play, including:
Character is now Nonbinary
Trans (in the direction of canon)
Trans (in the direction opposite canon)
Questioning/Experimenting
Fluid
Magic sex swaps of the 'woke up with my body a different reproductive setup, am learning the meaning of gender euphoria' variety
Whatever the hell Ranma 1/2 technically is
I do like AUs of all sorts, so long as the core of the character is intact, with vibes to match. This includes:
Modern - chill bakery/coffee shop/bookstore/beekeeper stuff - classy criminal playing cat and mouse with the FBI agent trying to catch them - 'oh no, you're my teenager's English teacher and this parent-teacher conference just got very awkward because we started dating over the summer before I knew' - one of them is a celebrity - literally just whatever
Historical Fantasy (mostly for the fashion and/or if the author gets really invested in things like trade routes and agricultural pressures and inane tax law)
History AU but only if you go the Bridgerton route of Fun And Funky Tropes Without The Racism
Royal Fantasy
Soulmate
Role Swap (does not have to be between the ship!)
Backstory swap (e.g. Never a Jedi AU, Raised a Sith AU, Senator of Tatooine AU, etc.)
For Want of a Nail
Faustian Castle AU
Fusion crossovers, like: - Leverage AU - Enchanted (2007) AU - Miraculous Ladybug - Naruto - Girl Genius by Phil and Kaja Foglio (this is incredibly niche, ignore if you're not super into it already)
Regarding my unwanted list
Basic ship things:
No Barr*ssoka.
I do not care about cloneshipping, but would prefer it be in the background if it's there at all.
I do not mind CodyWan, but would prefer it be in the background if it's there at all.
No Master/Padawan. I have exceptions when reading, but for an exchange, I'd prefer not to have any in my gift.
While I do love poly, please stick to the ships requested for the main ship. (If there are two or more that have overlapping characters, though, feel free to smush them together, e.g. Jango/Ahsoka and Ahsoka/Quinlan are on there, so Jango/Ahsoka/Quinlan would be fine)
Basic character/setting things:
No character bashing.
The whole Anakin/Consequences movement is one that I dislike immensely. If you don't know what it is, you're probably not doing it. If you do know what it is, then you know what I mean here.
It is very common/popular to write Qui-Gon as a neglectful, cold, or downright abusive caregiver/parent figure to the children in his care. I do not like this in the slightest.
For some reason, a lot of writers are very casual about violating a character's bodily autonomy "for their own good." I don't like this (unless it's horror, but that's a different topic), and ask that you refrain from having characters do something like that for a character's own good unless there are some massive extenuating circumstances.
I'm pro-Jedi and pro-New Mandos. I do not want anything that suggests they: - deserved what happened to them - needed to change or learn to accept more militant values/that attachment is good - were stealing/brainwashing children or engaging in cultural genocide
That said, I'm fine with Jedi choosing to leave the Order if given a reason to. (e.g. Obi-Wan deciding to stay on Melida/Daan because the Force insisted he should Because Reasons is fine)
I do like the True Mandos but please don't lionize them.
I have minimal interest in the Original Trilogy and no interest in the Sequels; my mind is squarely in the Prequels and pre-canon era. - That said, I do delight in having baby versions of the characters present; I am always open to toddler Skywalker twins cameo. - I'm not very into the Bad Batch. Cameos are fine.
Basic vibe things:
I do not want PWP, and figured it's easier to just do a blanket "no thanks" on smut and kink than try to navigate the details.
I am not a fan of sexual tension being the primary driver of the romance. I'm on the ace spectrum myself, and it always rings false to me.
If you write Rebellion/OT setting versions of the ships, please don't go hard on the clones being Old.
As much as I love a/b/o, I do not want it here, thank you.
Also not super into folkore AUs or vampire/werewolf AUs.
Self-explanatory DNW:
incest (cloneshipping is fine)
minor/adult ships - age difference of less than three years is fine - major age difference where both are adults is fine
reader insert
Lower body fluids (talking about blood or saliva is fine; excrement is not)
Sick fic (injury recovery is fine) IDK I just get nothing out of most sick fic
Non-canon Dark Histories meant only to make someone more sympathetic or pitiable (e.g. especially Rape as Backstory)
Downer endings (includes breakups that are not resolved)
Particularly dark topics, including: - Noncon - major character death (I'm fine with "Tarkin died and that sure is impacting the war" but "the main character's younger sister just died and the plot revolves around the grief" is a bit much) - underage sexual content - adultery/infidelity - whump - unresolved terminal illness - suicide - self-harm - domestic abuse - child abuse
ABOUT THE SHIPS (Favorite ships are bolded)
These are not prompts! These are just me trying to explain why/how I ship them, and the vibes I usually go for.
Ships I've enjoyed in theory or in fic, in both canon and weird AUs:
Anakin Skywalker/Cody I'm a huge fan of Anakin really, really wanting to impress Cody, and Cody being very hard to impress, but easily amused by Anakin's attempts. They're as close to equals as a clone and a natborn can be, and I think there's a lot to be explored with them.
Rex/Asajj Ventress Rex also does not want to be doing what he is doing. This crush is a terrible idea but holy shit he's doing it anyway. Ventress is fascinated by him despite herself.
Padme Amidala/Asajj Ventress: Padme "I can fix her" Amidala and Asajj "what is wrong with you do you not have a sense of self-preservation" Ventress
Barriss Offee/Anakin Skywalker Did you know they're only two years apart in canon? I like to imagine their hypothetical interactions during or after the war, when Barriss is either on her way to a Fall (cynical and losing faith, but not yet there) or recovering/on parole and learning to trust in the Force again, while Anakin is... basically on that same journey, but a few years ahead. He's already had his big horrible moment on Tatooine, and he relates to her in ways most of her peers can't.
Anakin Skywalker/Bo-Katan Kryze They are nightmare children to their respective older siblings and I adore them.
Shmi Skywalker/Mace Windu I haven't seen this ship before but I saw it in the tags list and I am Intrigued. Stepdad Mace is definitely fun, or we can always go with a "new bio dad for Ani" AU.
Jango Fett/Shmi Skywalker Two characters who are canonically defined by their parenthood (Shmi only exists because of Darth Vader's role in the OT; Jango only exists because of Boba's) but have been given more personality and backstory by extended canon, and I just. They have some very mixed up Traumas and Ethics. Shmi would have so many opinions on his actions. But also there is room for another bio-dad for Ani thing, if you want.
Qui-Gon Jinn/Jaster Mereel I haven't really seen this ship but I want to imagine them running into each other during the Obitine Year on the Run and just being Grumpy Old Men about having to pretend they don't notice the teenagers sneaking off for suspiciously long firewood gathering trips.
Anakin Skywalker/Torrent Company ...listen. IDK what to say about this. Anakin just really wants to make it up to his men for being in this situation. It's not a healthy dynamic and is driven at least partly by guilt.
Satine Kryze/Quinlan Vos Haven't read it before but HEY just be nice to Satine and I'll probably enjoy it.
Satine Kryze/Asajj Ventress Please just imagine Satine being a disciplinary partner who's teaching Ventress how to be a better person but they have to be really weird about it so that Ventress doesn't spook and run off because people are being Too Nice to her.
Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze POLITICAL NONSENSE AT ITS FINEST
Quinlan Vos/Obi-Wan Kenobi This is technically one of my OTPs but there's enough of it around that I'm not bothered if it's skipped. IDK why but I default to one of them being a trans dude for this ship more often than not.
Luminara Unduli/Obi-Wan Kenobi I think they'd be very chill and that Luminara is so calm and nice and polite that when she does make a snippy comment about a rude senator or something, Obi-Wna is the only one that gets it and he is delighted by the quiet sass.
Luminara Unduli/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Quinlan Vos Mix of the above, with an added dash of "one of us is masquerading as the brain cell but we're actually all here for the chaos."
Feemor/Shmi Skywalker I'd never heard of it until I saw the tag in this exchange but it looks like A LOT of fun.
Padme Amidala/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze Political shenanigans and extensive sass.
Jango Fett/Quinlan Vos I haven't really touched on them outside of a poly situation before, but I Wish To Hear More.
Open to age difference (as long as both are adults) OR time-travel:
Cody/Shmi Skywalker Listen to me. Listen. I think Cody would adore a woman who is calm and capable and worldly without being cynical or superpowered or mean. She's just very pragmatic and down to earth and kind and I think Cody would find that comforting. Meanwhile, Cody is also pragmatic, but he's the kind of capable that covers Shmi's own unskilled areas (primarily combat), that doesn't try to ignore or over-pity her history as a slave, and is capable of dealing with her superpowered child without being overwhelmed by the Force Abilities.
Anakin Skywalker/Mace Windu With an age difference at play, this is just... an explosion of Anakin's daddy issues, and Mace just humoring those issues, where Anakin is really into him but also really angry about it. Yes he wants to impress Mace. Yes he is also a little dedicated to pissing Mace off. It's complicated. (Please have Anakin being at least 23 if they've got an age difference of over a decade on.) Without the age difference, it's still the daddy issues, except this time Mace doesn't know what the hell he did to earn Anakin's complicated feelings.
Anakin Skywalker/Luminara Unduli I like the idea of Luminara being interested in a guy who is so totally the polar opposite of her. She doesn't want to fix him, but wants to be around him, and wants to be around that fire and passion, even if she has to rein him in once in a while. Anakin, meanwhile, finds her a genuinely calming presence, and the smiles and touches she graces him with when he does something difficult have him wanting to make her proud.
Bo-Katan Kryze/Ahsoka Tano NGL I'm mostly invested in either time-travel where Bo-Katan is inexplicably obsessed with a significantly more martial Jedi than the average, or canon timeline where the two of them are regularly coming to each other for comfort or help in the aftermath of RotS.
I primarily engage with these ships through time-travel or other AUs, as they are from different parts or generations of canon:
Jango Fett/Ahsoka Tano I've written so many time-travel fics about these two and all I can say is that I love Jango being reluctantly in love with a Jedi, because he shouldn't like her (either because Galidraan already happened and he's angry about it, or Galidraan hasn't happened but he's Mando and she's Jedi), while Ahsoka has some Conflicted Feelings about Jango because of the clones.
Ahsoka Tano/Quinlan Vos Fuck yeah, spies.

Find the word tag
Thank you @winterandwords and @author-a-holmes for the tags! Taking a couple of words from each pool
Words are no-one (or no one), not, wet, and broken
No one
“Be careful out there,” [Sakrattars] called out to the girls without looking up from his reading. “You get in trouble and Jo’s going to find some way to blame it on me.” Then he switched to draconic, a language that he was almost certain Saara didn’t know. “And keep your identity hidden. You’re a normal human girl.”
Certain that her secret was safe with Saara and that no one else would find out, Kaja answered confidently. “No trouble.” ((spoiler alert: there was trouble lmao))
Not
“Are you a dragon?”
Kaja opened her mouth, ready to answer ‘no’. But the word caught in her throat and her brow furrowed. Saara could see now that Kaja’s pupils were oddly shaped, like slits instead of circles, and how her features and proportions were elongated but in an elegant, almost serpentine way, not the lanky way young adolescents usually were. Saara wondered how she hadn’t noticed these things before.
“I don’t know,” Kaja finally said.
Saara couldn’t help but laugh. “What kind of answer is that?”
Wet
Dimitri slipped inside, removing his soaking wet coat and hanging it casually on a peg. “I come with a job offer.”
“We don’t work for the Ordo.”
“You have no problem living under our roof,” Dimitri chuckled, gesturing broadly to the room. Jo did not share Dimitri’s amusement. If anything, her expression only darkened.
Broken
The man from the library walked through the broken streets of Undertown, a magical light guiding his way through the dark, dank ruins that lay beneath Aurea. He whistled a cheerful tune as he went, catching the eye of curious ratfolk and wary kobolds. Turning casually into an alley, he rapped on a door three times.
Gonna tag some new folks here, as always these are no pressure/gentle tags! (and let me know if you’d rather not be tagged in future games) @sunset-a-story, @ethaeriea, @elshells, and anyone else! Your words are before, after, and during
