I wrote a giant description of all the characters based on what my friend and I were talking about can I have your opinion:

I am going to be starting with the first post where I mention the balectors of Stardew valley. This means the characters that you are able to date and eventually marry if you want to do that. In order to reach perfection, which is the end of the game, you need to have someone live in your house with 12 hearts in order to give you a stardrop. Hearts are friendship points you can get by giving points. That is one of the two ways to gain friendship. The other is through cut scenes you get by progressing in your relationship and by saying things that make them either like or hate you more.

Anyways, onto the characters, starting with Haley who is the first person you mention. I am married to her which is because I like how her character progresses. As you gain friendship with her, she gets more nice and is open to different things then she was before. For example, she used to throw away her clothes each year but says she donates it now. She is super cute and sweet when she is married to her and it seems as though she is in love. She is kind of like a disney princess as you mention because she likes makeup and is girly. The next you mentioned is Leah who actually lives in a cottage and lives to forage and build for you. Penny is actually the opposite of what you said as she is horrible at baking and teaches the two children in town (and eventually Leo) Jas and Vincent and she also likes to read. Her mother, Pam, is abusive. But I can talk about her in a little bit. Abigail is the most popular person to marry as people like her because she is adventurous and wants to fight in the caves and is in a band with Sam and Sebstain. There is a theory that she is actually the wizard’s daughter because her mom admits to going to his tower and her dad says they do not look similar and the wizard says he thinks he might have a daughter. Abigail is also kind of a meme because if you give her gems she will say, “How did you know that I was hungry?” Basically everyone considers her cool and a meme and she is probably the wizard’s daughter. Emily likes crystals and parrots and dances and all of her cut scenes are basically fever dreams. So she is kind of a psychopath and super excited all of the time. Her and Haley are sisters and do not get along. In earlier versions of Maru, she had really curly hair and a lot of the community, including me, thinks she looks better like that. I also consider her hair to be kind of cool. She likes robotics.

Anyways, the next up is the marriage candidates for the guys. You are totally right that it is so random. Elliot is a writer and he is very attention starved as he writes you poems and is obsessed with you when you date him and writes you a book based on what genre you say you like. Harvey IS a simple man. His favorite gift is coffee so you definitely got that done. He has anxiety and never talks to anyone and tries to be better about that if you date him. So he is chill and kind of a meme because your stuff gets taken if you get knocked out in battle and he charges a thousand gold for repairing you. You were exactly right with Sebastian as he is moody and does not like people and plays video games from 10am to 10pm. Alex is sexist to you if you are a girl and is kind of arrogant about wanting to be a professional football player. So you are completely right. You are wrong about Shane, though, he is actually really mean to you and wants you to not talk to him. Most of his events are about him being suicidal and depressed and an acholicoal. One is where he wants to roll off a cliff and is drunk. Not mafia material. I do agree about his jacket, though, it is kind of cool. Even though it has a J on it which stands for Joja which is a company he works for. Joja is basically the definition of capitalism in this game. Sam is actually friends with Sebastian and Abigail and he wants to be in a band which he is in. They like to play DND and it is a thing in the community that Sam and Sebastain should be dating.

Onto the villagers. Willy is a fisherman and kind of chill so you were sort of wrong but I would definitely want to go on an adventure with him as well so actually I agree, you win. Everyone loves Robin and a lot of people are sad you cannot date her because of Demetris. You were so wrong about Demetris but the way. Robin is actually Sebstain’s mom’s but he is it related to Demetrius. Demetris hates Sebastian but loves Maru and this makes Sebastian really angry. Demeteruis also does not care about Robin who we love. Sandy is my favorite as she is lonely in the desert and really wants to spend time with you and is super confident and sweet. You are right about Pam, also, by the way. She is super abusive and drinks too much beer every night and treats her daughter, Penny, unfairly. She also speaks like she is living in texas. The wizard is kind of weird but he is also cool because of his magic. Krobus is amazing and he is the opinion for the aromantics as you can have him move into your house and he gives you hugs instead of kisses and is amazing. The dwarf hates Krobus because of a war between the dwarfs and the shadow people so he kind of sucks. Krobus is adorable. Jas and Vincent are both kind of weird like no one cares about them. I mean Jas is more interesting because she is related to Shane and Marine and Vincent is interesting because his dad, Kent, has ptsd from fighting in the war. Kent is kind of weird and has a freakout because of popcorn because of his ptsd. Pierre is not like Harvey at all, he steals credit for your crops and only cares about money and nothing else. No one really likes him. Evelyn is the nicest person ever as she makes cookies for you and says you can call her Granny. Everyone likes her so much. Jodi is kind of boring and depressed because she has no freedom and spends her entire life taking care of her kids, Sam and Vincent. Demetris is awful. Linus and Leo go together because they both like nature and are kind of connected to it. Lewis is not. He steals money from the town and uses it to make gold statues of himself. He is dating Marine and refuses to make their relationship public even though no one would care and is toxic. Also, the others you did not mention are Caronline and Clint and George and Gus so I am just going to explain them. Caroline is Pierre’s husband and might be cheating on him so you know… kind of bad… whatever. She is fine I guess, it is weird, no one really cares about her. Clint has a crush on Emily and is super creepy about it and is kind of disgusting and tries to be like a sob story so not thank you. George is super grumpy and rude and is in a wheelchair because of a mining accident. Gus is amazing and kind of knows everything about everyone.

Onto the next section, okay? Grandpa looks blue because he is a ghost who visits you in your third year. I do not like him. It is weird. The governor is actually like you think he is, he has no clue about anything and just wants to visit once a year to literally just eat soup. (I am not kidding, look it up, promise you.) Marlon is actually like you say and he has a crush on Marnie and is a perfect opinion for her. Birdie is part of ginger island and is super sweet and gives you fairy dust and you find something for her to remind her of her husband who died in a tragic accident. It is amazing to do because you get an award and it is just wholesome and kind of sad. Gil does supply items and he is like a moment away from death basically so you are right. Gunther is awesome and yeah, kind of suspicious but great. Okay. That is all of the villagers summarized for you.

well, here are some of my thoughts:

Penny isn't necessarily bad at cooking,(from what I know) she just shouldn't experiment. She's also shy and emotionally sensitive

Emily is what I believe people call a "Cristal girl" not necessarily a psychopath, she also seems to have her "head in the clouds" and yeah, positive most of the time.

Ermm... actually☝️🤓 Harvey takes 10% of however much gold you have.

Dang, you kept Alex one short! But yeah, same thing as Hayley but with the ego and the sexism if you're a girl. He also lives with Grany Eveiln and Granpa Jorge because his mother died and the father was presumably abusive

To be fair to ghost grandpa, he's stuck haunting the farm until you can get the perfection statue so he kinda can't move on lmao!

Marlon is also a cool adventurer who will go down in the dangerous mines to get your stuff if you pay him

I wouldn't say Demetrius hates Sebastian, he just has a huge favoritism problem. He's also a very logical thinker from what I can interpret in his dialog

And to be fair to Clint... the Farmer's also kinda a stalker...in more ways than one...

But I'm not here to argue anything, I'm just sharing some thoughts. You have a right to think whatever you want about whatever character

We should probably talk about Elliot

So... I feel like there are three types of opinions when it comes to Elliot. I usually see some version of the same three points depending on the person.

Elliot is boring (This is fine, honestly I'd like to see his character fleshed out more with some of the new dialogue coming, but that's not a guarantee.)

Elliot is the Ideal ManTM & Can do No WrongTM (I understand where people are coming from with this, but I also understand why people disagree. yes I AM going to be a fence sitter on this one)

Elliot is alright, but I HATED the boat heart event.

I'd like to discuss the third opinion. Because I'm an Elliot fan and I COMPLETELY understand why people (even Elliot fans/stans, and myself at first) HATE this heart event. Having a guy row you both out to sea in a tiny rowboat with no one around and kissing you without asking is a fairly major red flag.

It shows that he sometimes oversteps boundaries, even if he doesn't mean to. However, I'd like to argue that this is NOT a deal breaker. Let's break it down. Elliot, in the context of the game, is a person. And people are flawed. they make mistakes. I think this event actually goes to show that he's a well-rounded character.

He has flaws. He (sometimes) breaks boundaries, and if you say your uncomfortable, he says, "I see" and you get -50 Friendship points. This shows that he doesn't take criticism super well AND could imply that he kisses you spontaneously because he's so isolated in his cabin with only BOOKS (fiction, probably some sort of romance included) as his entertainment. He probably didn't even realize that what he did was wrong. It is NOT an excuse, but it IS an explanation!

I'm just saying this to say that I think Elliot is actually a well-rounded character with flaws, and if this happened in real life, you could probably talk it out and understand each other's point of view, thus mending the (metaphorical) lost "friendship points."

I actually think this heart event adds MORE to his character rather than taking away from it. I mean, Stardew Valley is not unfamiliar with flawed characters! Alex can be kinds misogynistic if you play as a girl, Clint is a LITERAL incel, and Shane & George are pretty big assholes when you first meet them. Elliot just has a different kind of character flaw, one that we don't usually see in media.

HOWEVER, I understand if after this you still don't like the heart event and/or Elliot. I respect your opinion and I think we can all still be civil even if we disagree. I just appreciate that we all have wildly different experiences when we play the game. I only recently started playing the game and I love how passionate this community is. Hope ya'll enjoyed this long winded rant! :)

Best Stardew Valley marriage candidates according to their story arcs

(warning: objective but also my opinion)

So what do I mean by according to their story arcs?

Stardew Valley's NPCs are very well written, with well defined personalities and goals. Here I will be judging if it would be right to marry them according to their goals. Basically, if your farmer married them, would they be fulfilled? Would they be okay with settling in Stardew Valley? Would they like being at a farm?

Note that I am not judging them by how nice or pleasant it would be to marry them, just based on would it be right to marry them.

Yes, get on your knee and pop the question already!

Leah

Now I might be biased because she's my favorite, but she's also the one that makes the most sense. She came to Stardew for the same reasons your farmer did, to escape to rat race and the non-stop grind of city life. She moved there on her own terms and it's shown that she actually enjoys living there. Since she's one of the only NPCs who likes foragable items, I don't think it would be a stretch to say that she would enjoy farming as well. Your beautiful farm could also serve as inspiration for her art. And hey as a bonus, she won't be a starving artist anymore.

Elliot, Harvey

I'm putting these two in the same spot for the same sort of reasons. Their occupations/hobbies don't necessarily tie into nature as well as Leah's does, but I they're up here this high because I think they need partnership. Both of them are canonically a bit older and they live alone. Most of the time, cooped up in their houses. Their jobs have a risk of self isolation, especially Elliot's. And again much like Leah, they came to Stardew because they wanted to. Elliot for what we can assume are similar reasons, Harvey because he just be happened to be posted there (and Stardew needs a doctor).

Penny

Penny is up here because I see her as the traditional sort. Like, I think she would actively try to get hitched. But I don't think she would be comfortable living far away from Stardew. Penny's job teaching the kids shows that she has a lot of love for the valley and its people, she wants to make it a better place. Why not get married to the farmer, who also has an interest in boosting the valley's economy? The reason I'm putting her a bit lower is her relationship with Pam. They do love each other, but they don't have the healthiest relationship. I think Penny should know more about the world rather than using marriage to further herself from her troubled home. There's some potential to have this unbalanced relationship with the farmer as well. Moreover, she also never goes to the bar, maybe because she detests drinking, but maybe because she also isn't old enough.

Ehh? Maybe?

Shane, Hayley

In contrast, Shane and Hayley are in the same spot for different reasons. Shane would probably enjoy being married to the farmer because he himself enjoys farming. You could definitely see him help raise your chickens and ducks. But because of how his story panned out and how he is after getting married (his room is still full of beer cans), I don't know if marriage is the healthiest option for him? I think staying with his family for a bit would be better but when he's a bit more self assured, he could be marriage material down the line.

As for Hayley, I think the marriage part is ok. She starts off immature and getting close to you and being married helps her grow as a person. She tries to help out with the farm and she ends up also contributing to the valley. But I don't know if she should stay in the valley? I think it would be good for her to gain more worldly experience, again like Penny she's never in the Saloon, indicating that she might be a bit young.

Alex, Sam

These two are in the same position, in the middle because I don't really know how to feel about them? In terms of age, I think they're both ok, they are known to enter the Saloon. But they act so young, Alex and Sam come across as highschool boys; Alex being the jock and Sam being the skater. These two guys need a bit of soul searching I guess, maybe marriage is the answer to that, maybe not.

Abigail

Abigail is also someone who needs a bit of soul searching. She has a bit more of a clear path compared to Alex and Sam, she shows potential in magic and adventuring/combat. That can be done in Stardew, in fact it can be enhanced by being with the farmer, but I think her biggest obstacle is her family. The girl should move out, out of Stardew. Caroline is an ok mom, but too traditional. Pierre is a downright sexist father. Their traditional expectations for Abigail (finishing school and helping around the house) are holding her back. I don't think her final goal in life is settling in the valley, I see her as a wandering adventurer.

I don't feel right marrying them

Emily

I think Emily is also someone who has potential and staying in the valley is holding her back. I see her as suffering from eldest daughter syndrome, having to take care of her family and home because her parents put all of the responsibility on to her. She does seem happy and cheerful but if you ask her about her job at the saloon, she'll say "well at least it'll pay the bills." In a way, she's the opposite of Leah, where Leah is a city slicker wanting to live the slow life, Emily deserves more than this provincial life. She should be an up and coming designer in Zuzu or something.

Sebastian

Sebastian is similar to Emily, except he is much more explicit with it. Sebby straight up wants to move out to the city. As a tech guy, I think it's important if not necessary for him to hone his skills by attending school or getting a tech job. With his motorcycle I also see him as someone who doesn't want to stay in one place, let alone settle down. I've consistently gotten to 8 hearts with Sebby but I would just feel bad marrying him.

Maru

Look, I like Maru. She's the only BIPOC character, she's sweet, she's smart. But man do I feel bad marrying her! Someone like her should be studying at Yale, not cooped up in some little valley. I have to admit, Demetrius is kinda right. Maru doesn't need marriage, she should pursue a PhD. It doesn't help that she's pretty young, again, one of the NPCs who never go into the saloon. I think marrying the farmer will actively hinder her goals

Ok, there's quite a bit I can say about Elliott but here's the TL;DR. This man either looks like he hopped off of a romance novel cover, or like a toddler who just discovered what patterns are. @upsidedownpizzabite made a really cute piece of him wearing a lobster shirt and I've never seen anything more correct in my life

As for the long answer, first of all, no, I'm a vanilla girly so I've never played it, though I have watched it be played and I really like it. He absolutely send you letters through the guise of a secret admirer even though the town is so small you can track it back to him. That bit were if you're dating another villager and he sends you a wilted bouquet in the mail? Jaw dropping, I love that shit so much so it's staying with my Elliott

I'd say the main thing that differs is that my Elliott is a total girlfail. Do not leave this man alone in the kitchen, he will create something radioactive. Rich kid energy, he does not know what the fuck he's doing most of the time but goes in with such bravado you assume he's been doing whatever it is for years

His yandere tendencies start as soon as you meet him, he's convinced it's love at first sight and that he must court you before anyone else in the valley can ruin you. Is fine with you hanging out with people like Penny or Harvey but if he catches you with Shane, Emily or Alex he whisks you away, afraid they'll "taint your purity" Of course this man has a purity kink, what did you expect? Now he's also super into a rough and tumble farmer stealing his purity, he'll "fight back" of course but he's just no match for your big strong farmer build

This is all I can think of for now I'm afraid but if you have anything specific about him in mind that I didn't touch on please let me know!

I actually thoroughly enjoyed Alex Strangelove.

There are some thoughts I have on it though:

Some of the lines were a bit weird and outdated. like the “special ed” joke and the “nobody’s straight anymore” rant. But like i feel like it’s somewhat realistic? Not saying I enjoyed that part. But I have heard people say these kind of things. Idk it was weird.

The bi cop out thing. Actually, i don’t mind that he wasn’t bi. yes i agree we need more male bi representation. but the whole conflict of the movie was that he wasn’t sexually attracted to his girlfriend and that he was sexually attracted to a guy. Maybe he could have been biromantic but homosexual? Idk but I have no problem with him not being bisexual. maybe that’s an unpopular opinion but like. it doesn’t make sense narratively for him to be bisexual.

The main thing I didn’t like about the movie was that we didn’t get a lot of Alex and Elliot. We got like 2 kissing scenes and that’s it. After the first kiss, we don’t see him until the very end of the third act. I feel like the last scene should have been them two. Idk. The ending was fine I guess.

As for what I liked:

Alex’s obsession with animals is adorable and relatable and I love it. And i dont like claire that much near the end but i did like them as friends in the beginning of the movie.

Elliot and Alex have so much chemistry and i love how there’s a clear difference between them and Alex and Claire. Not just the kissing but the way Claire always tells him to shut up is weird and Elliot just lets him be himself.

Elliot’s room is so iconic. Also the scene where he’s singing along to the B-52s is incredible.

Alex is kinda adorable. I like his dorky energy. And i feel like they didn’t overdo it either. Like he’s not a cartoon character, he’s actually relatable.

Anyways these are just my initial thoughts a few hours after watching the movie. Tell me what y’all think.

I liked it. I by no means think this is the best movie ever or some high art but i liked it. It was a fun time.

Solid 7.5/10.

Pairing: Platonic!Elliot x reader; Platonic!Maddy x reader

Summary: You're typically known as the preppy, popular best friend of Maddy Perez, the queen of high school. In reality, your best friend was Elliot who you smoked with hourly.

Warnings: Mentions of drugs and sex.

A/n: I like to write these things as headcannons cuz it allows me to get all my thoughts out at once and not in a jumbled mess. Plus I'm a human which makes me lazy by nature lmao.

- Maddy always saw you as this precious little barbie that she could mold into someone like her. Someone beautiful and unstoppable.

- You two were almost more terrifying than her and Cassie were. The two of you just walking down the halls would have people running for the hills.

- You were the true apex predators in the grand scheme of high school. And, even though you weren't the biggest fan of the attention, you loved the power.

- You loved that Maddy could take the things that you hated about yourself and help you love them. Whether it be a small or large insecurity, her opinion changed your own image of yourself.

- If someone like Maddy told you that she loved your insecurities, you'd believe her too.

- But Elliot was a different friend to and for you.

- You didn't feel the need to perform in front of him, just acting normal and calm, two things that you weren't really able to be in front of Maddy.

- You could talk about anything with Elliot, down to the weirdest, most TMI facts or concerns that you had. He took everything you had to give him and he did it with a smile.

- The two of them were polar opposites, both giving you something that you didn't get from the other.

- Maddy gave you status, confidence, and was someone fun and positive to spend your time with.

- Elliot was someone that you could share your whole soul with while smoking a joint.

- Two very different sides of you but equally important that they come out and be shared with the ones that you loved.

- The two of them wouldn't get along if given the chance and you knew this better than anything.

- Elliot didn't like Maddy but he was aware of your friendship with her. Maddy didn't like the fact that Elliot drowned himself in weed but she wasn't aware of your friendship with him.

- It was just better that way.

- If she knew about your friendship with the boy, she'd either try to convince you to stop hanging out with him, or she'd try to convince you to get in his pants.

- You'd already been down that road and you and Elliot would both agree that your friendship was better off without sex.

- You wouldn't survive without both of them in your life, knowing that they were both equally loyal and loving.

- And you wouldn't have it any other way.

I’m just gonna roll with a lot of the adas/other lawyers on the show cause…why not…I’m bored…

Alex Cabot:

9/10. She has the best character arc out of literally every single character on the show. I will not budge on that. She comes in hot, and stays incredible. We get to see some of her softer/broken down side in Guilt, easily one of my fave eps. She’s fighting her ass off for the victims, she’s ruthless, she’s sassy, her wardrobe is incredible. She literally loses her entire life for this job. When she comes back post WPP, she’s changed, and it’s for the better, she’s grown, she’s matured, her view of the world and the legal world is changed, it’s skewed, she’s already starting to see how many things are wrong with it. After the Nardalee stuff, she takes it upon *herself* to go and try to make a change in regions of the world that are stricken with rape and assault and violence. She’s also the first person to get marital rape past the grand jury, and one of the first to get a conviction on a female rapist. When we see her again in s19(?20?) she’s said “fuck it” to following the law/rules and is helping women who desperately need it, who the justice system would probably just fail anyways, but she still has her license and is still a bad ass in court. In her earlier seasons, she definitely keeps her emotions/feelings at bay, and she doesn’t have as much compassion as later on, she very quickly and willingly takes the blame for the dude who gets third degree burns while working “undercover” for the cops and it doesn’t seem to bother her at all. She also has her cocky moments (though tbh, she deserves it). She also has a lot of resources within the legal/upper east side worlds that she is not afraid of taking advantage of and we love that for her.

Elizabeth Donnelly:

9.5/10.

She’s the baddest ass of the bad asses, like, has the biggest dick out of the entire DA’s office and everyone knows it. She’s not to be fucked with, I’m sure her win rate was super fucking high. She’s sassy, she doesn’t give a fuck what people think of her or if she offends them. She also stands up for her people, she’s protective over her girls, but also reminds them of what’s right, and the difference between legally right and morally right. She saved Casey’s ass three times, twice when she represented her in court, (stepping down from the bench) and once when she suspended her (fight me. She saved her ass from getting fired. Earlier in s9 McCoy said he would have casey disbarred if she pulled anymore crap. After the s9 finale, if liz hadn’t had her suspended, casey would’ve been done for completely). Liz also has a bit of a chaotic queen side to her and we love that. Liz also had to deal with the bullshit of fighting her way through the legal world when it wasn’t exactly a “place” for women to be, she had to deal with 10000 x more sexism in the work place than those who came after her, and that makes her even more bad ass..

Casey Novak:

9/10.

Another bad ass, but someone who had to work her ass off to get where she is. She originally didn’t want sex crimes, she wasn’t sure she was good enough for it, that she could handle it. She’s incredibly empathetic, she *feels* for the victims, and takes her losses very personally. She carries a lot of guilt when she doesn’t get justice for people, and she wears her heart on her sleeve most of the time. She’s not afraid about breaking a few rules as long as what’s right gets done, even if that means sacrificing herself in the process. She’s changed when she comes back from her suspension, part of it being maturity, having aged into her more adult life, and part of it being a “fuck it” attitude. She also has to deal with the “immediate post Elliot era Olivia” meaning that she puts up with a lot of crap, arguing and blame and attitude coming from Liv who’s taking out her frustrations on anyone around her.. she also gets some GARBAGE cases after returning so …..she loses points for her atrocious wardrobe choices in the earlier seasons though.

Kim Greylek:

4/10.

Talk about coming in hot and not following through. This bitch was all “I’m the crusader, I’m so good, I’m a bad ass, casey novak got disbarred, she can suck it”. Meanwhile she just…sucked…she would instantly blame the cops, she was just super fucking annoying. Honestly a lot of why I don’t like kim stems from two places: one, she replaced the love of my life and was cocky and rude about it, number two: the actress wasn’t right for the part, and mikaela has said herself that she wasn’t the right fit, that she wasn’t prepared/ready for the legal jargon and that’s why she left before the season was fully done. She is super pretty though.

Sonya Paxton:

7.5/10

Home girl was the executive Ada, which means she’s been doing this for a long ass time. She’s brash, she’s ballsy and she calls the cops on their shit immediately. She values *her* job and making sure that the case isn’t going to get thrown out over them even thinking about questioning. She knows what she’s talking about and knows her way around the law. She regularly gives stabler shit which gets extra points for me. Obviously she’s also a bit of an alcoholic which is pretty problematic, but she goes to rehab and cleans herself up and does everything she’s supposed to. It was a waste to fucking kill her off and I’ll forever be salty about it.

Gillian Hardwicke:

6/10

She came in basically screaming about how her win rate was in the 90’s, which seemed pretty unbelievable to start with, but like girl, chill, your rate’s about to go way down now that you’re svu. She did fairly well in court, she was good at her job, but we didn’t see much of her, she was in those seasons that they were constantly shuffling ada’s around and couldn’t decide on who to keep cast. She was a decent enough fit with the team, better than Kim was, but she wasn’t great.

Kristen Torres:

10/10.

Home girl was like the baby of the ada’s or something cause she was always talked about but never actually seen, or just in arraignment cause someone else was running late or couldn’t be bothered. I think we only actually got her as the Ada twice over the years, and once was the s10 finale cause they didn’t want to kill off alex (again). And the other episode she was in we barely saw any court scenes. She deserved better, and more…

Rafael Barba:

7/10.

(Don’t fucking come for me). Barba was a wonderful addition to the team, and had incredible chemistry (imo, platonic) with olivia. He was pretty standoffish and cocky at first, which still held up with a lot of people over the years even though him and Liv got closer. The sass, the quips, the stylish suits, great bonuses, he always looked good, and he knew it. He was great in a court room, but not so great as a person…if that makes sense. He holds little empathy for the victims, especially in his first episode, he just comes off as cold. Like, i get it, his job is to take it to court, make sure that the vics are ready to testify and win the case, but…yeah…I do appreciate how much he stands up for what’s right when it comes to taking on cops/police brutality and the like, he’s not against sacrificing personal relationships to make sure that the proper people get justice. I also appreciated his return in s22, wish we would have gotten a bit of a better episode, but hey, we’ll take what we can.

Peter Stone:

8/10.

First and foremost, this is also based on my opinions after watching Chicago Justice, where the character originated, and where he was written a MILLION times better. Also personally, I just really liked Stone. I think most people hate him because he replaced Barba and are teh people who are all #bringbackbarba on literally every single post (which is a whole other discussion. Let actors go do what they want to do pls. And also understand that they’re not the ones responsible for the direction their character goes, and that they can’t just waltz back to a show and say they want to come back…) anyways. Peter was a great lawyer, and the poor fucking guy went through SO much in such a short time. He always had a complicated relationship with his dad, having to figure out how to grieve him, while taking care of his sister who had no idea who he was, while adjusting to a new city, a new department and a new squad that all hates him because he was just doing his fucking job? Like, c’mon guys…fucking chill. He also got falsely accused of rape, watched his sister die, and in the end, literally broke the law to win the Rob Miller case. Like, yeah bro, I would fucking quit after that too.

Sonny Carisi:

6/10.

Sorry sunshine….and to clarify, this is JUST him AS AN ADA. I love Sonny, i love detective Carisi. I still love him as a human, and think he’s wonderful and so soft and lovely. But the show kinda fucked it up, and part of that is because it is a show and fiction/not close to reality. Sonny would NEVER be straight out of passing the bar, junior ada, trying cases of the level that he was. They missed an INCREDIBLE opportunity of having him shadow/second chair barba/stone through the last of their episodes, or having the option of bringing in someone (preferably a past ada) as bureau chief to over see him. We saw that with Liz/Casey/Alex, and it was a lovely dynamic to see. We even got a little bit of it with Cutter in Alex’s later seasons. It just…doesn’t make sense. They clearly show him as bottom of the barrel with his office being a cubicle and then being so small, even if he does have a door. I don’t know what they were planning with Hadid, she seemed pretty antagonist, but now she just doesn’t exist anymore? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Pippa Cox:

Only looses the half point because she married Hank. She’s a fucking goddess, she’s a queen who deserves everything. She’s a bad ass in court, she knows exactly how to keep her work life and her home life separate. She’s an advocate for children, which is like, so soft and wonderful and powerful all on its own. She ALWAYS looks incredible, she’s a wonderful, caring, protective mother, and she comes back even stronger after the whole hank shit goes down. So…she also a bad ass. And she kicks ass in court.

All Out is a YA anthology of short stories about exactly what the subtitle promises — queer teens throughout the ages. As someone who loves historical fiction with queer characters I’ve been excited to start this and was happily not disappointed. Each story was very creative and felt different from all the others. It’s cool to see all the different takes these authors had on queer historical teens. Some were retellings, while others revolved around real historical events, and then others had more fantastical elements to them. And these are just a taste of what these stories had to offer. The breadth of time periods explored was vast. The earliest time period was in the 1300s while the latest was 1999. I loved being able to explore multiple points in history and that the stories weren’t contained to just the United States and Europe. The diversity in this anthology was impressive. There were two stories with trans men, two stories with an asexual character, ten stories with female x female relationships, and five stories with male x male relationships. I thought the representation was done incredibly well, but I’m not from every group so I would look at other opinions too. I was just happy to see asexual representation. I also liked how diverse the stories were not only in the gender and sexuality of the characters, but also in their race. My biggest worry with this anthology was that the majority of stories would feature instalove due to the length of the short stories, but I was surprised that most of them were actually able to avoid this. On top of that most of the short stories also avoided feeling too brief which was another worry of mine. Even one that was just eleven pages long felt like it was the perfect length. My favorites of the collection were “And They Don’t Kiss at the End” by Nilah Magruder, “Burnt Umber” by Mackenzi Lee, “New Year” by Malinda Lo, “The Girl with the Blue Lantern” by Tess Sharpe, “Walking After Midnight” by Kody Keplinger, and “The Inferno & The Butterfly” by Shaun David Hutchinson. My least favorites were “Roja” by Anna-Marie McLemore, “Every Shade of Red” by Elliot Wake, “Willows” by Scott Tracey, and “The Secret Life of a Teenage Boy” by Alex Sanchez. I should stress that I didn’t hate any of them though. There was always something I liked even in the stories I didn’t enjoy as much. This anthology has made me discover authors that I really want to read because I liked their writing so much. I’m also pleased to find out that at least two of the stories that I really liked, “New Year” by Malinda Lo and “The Inferno & The Butterfly” by Shaun David Hutchinson, seem to have been made into fuller length stories by their authors. I definitely aim to check them out! Hopefully “Burnt Umber” by Mackenzi Lee gets a full length story too or any other of the short stories that I liked. I haven’t read an anthology in a really long time but with how much I enjoyed this one it has made me want to start reading the other anthologies on my TBR. I already have Out Now: Queer We Go Again, the follow-up to this anthology, on my TBR that I’m super looking forward to reading. There were many stories in this one that spoke to me so I’m sure that’ll be the case in the next one too!

I hate how people who review the 2.0 episodes (especially on IMBD) criticize Liv for being 'too good' but when she makes a bad decision they fully judge her for it. E.g. When she stops the heart from going to Buffalo, yes she chose the law above a life. But she didn't make the decision and skip away. She struggled with her choice. She had to choose legally right vs morally right. And she even admits that she isn't sure she chose the right one.

But I think that's the whole idea. As a detective she often spoke out against the system, how it hadn't caught up to time and technology. Back then she could choose the moral/ethical because she had nothing to lose (except the job ofc). But now she's in charge of the unit. People rely on her. And while the moral/ethical makes her feel good, the legal keeps her there. No one can take her command away because the law is on her side. Back in the day she had herself and Elliot. But now, the team is her family. They all deserve protecting and they look to Liv for that protection.

Imo these moral vs legal decisions are there to make the viewers think. And yes, to judge Liv's decisions vs what they would do. But people tend to see 'saint Liv', and judge her according to that. But if she looks the other way then she's abusing her power. It's a lose-lose situation. LIV ISN'T PERFECT PEOPLE! She was never SUPPOSED to be perfect. And she doesn't think she is perfect either. She knows she's flawed.

Okay, rant over. For now.

That season in particular (what is that, 20? The season with Stone) is all about what is morally right vs what is legal and having to walk that line. During my last rewatch I posted about this several times bc they keep hitting on it, with the heart, with Alex, with Peter framing the baddie with the beard. Liv is faced with impossible decisions over and over, between what is right and what is just. And I think you made a really good point with the heart specifically; if Liv had been a detective then she could have let the heart go and pled ignorance and cragen would have covered her ass and it would have been done. But there's no more cragen. The buck stops with her. She has to make the hard calls.

The treatment of Olivia as character by the audience at large - not just the diehard fan fans but the massive casual audience - is honestly so indicative of the treatment of women in our culture tbh. She's too pretty to be a cop; she's too frumpy why won't they let her be sexy? She's too much of a goody two shoes; she makes too many mistakes. She is too much and not enough at the same time and what they really mean is she's a woman with strong opinions who doesn't conform to their expectations. Olivia is a challenge because she makes people think about what they'd do in her shoes and it's easier to criticize than to empathize.

And!!! She's grown. She's changed. That's human, and natural. But if a casual viewer were to watch an episode from s2 and then an episode from s20 they'd go hey!! She's different!! 🙁 I mean, fuck yeah she is, how much time do you have? Bc there's 22 years of character development and growth here and if you watch the whole thing you're gonna lose several months of your life but you'll get the full picture and the full picture is a beautiful thing imo

So yeah I totally feel your frustration on that.

Differences between The Sandman graphic novels and The Sandman audio drama

Besides the obvious fact that one version of the story is told with pictures and written text while the other is told as an audio play here are some of the actual differences between The Sandman graphic novels and The Sandman audio drama.

This list does not contain every difference between the comics and audio drama but it contains all the ones I can recall over a month later after having listened to The Sandman audio drama.

At this point I have listened to the whole thing all the way through once, Sleep of the Just (Chapter 1) twice, Imperfect Hosts (Chapter 2) three times, and bits and pieces of the rest over again.

As we proceed, know that each chapter of the audio drama usually correlates with an issue of the original Sandman comics.

I do not mind most of these changes but I did feel that they were worth noting.

1. (This one was apparently a mistake). Though the importance of the binding circle was described in the audio drama, as was Alex’s wheelchair, the description of Alex’s wheel accidentally breaching the binding circle around Morpheus’ crystalline cage was not described in the audio drama. This impacts the story in that either we are to just assume the circle was broken at some point “off camera”, lost its power at Roderick’s death, or never really was part of what was containing Morpheus at all. As I am a bit of a purist I choose to pretend it just happened “off camera.” I wish a little narration was inserted to correct this though. I’m being petty...

2. At least twice in the first chapter of The Sandman audio drama we are told that Alexander Burgess and Paul McGuire are lovers. In the original comic this was only heavily implied and not out-right confirmed until The Sandman: The Kindly ones. This is definitely a positive change.

3. The Sandman audio drama quite specifically tells us that Doctor Destiny (John Dee) is actually the son of Roderick Burgess and not Ruthven Sykes. Sykes is listed as his father on the DC Wikia. I always had a suspicion that he and Alexander Burgess may have been brothers but thought my math was poor.

4. The story that introduces Hob Gadling (Men of Good fortune, issue 13 of the comics) is moved to Chapter 10 of the audio drama. This is another change I actually appreciate as I happen to love this story and like that now it stands alone instead of interrupting The Doll’s House. I never minded the interruption but now it seems to flow better.

5. The story of Elemental Girl (Facades) is issue 20 of the comics but moved to chapter 19 instead so that the audio drama could end on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Personally I was never a big fan of Facades, it’s probably my least favorite stand-alone Sandman story but I love A Midsummer Night’s Dream and I think that’s a much better spot to end on. This was the right decision, in my opinion.

6. Small details are changed at The Serial Killer convention. Nothing that changes the story too drastically but make it slightly more palatable to modern readers / listeners.

7. There is a new scene of one of The Corinthian’s victims realizing that none of them can see (and they are still quite alive) and The Corinthian announces that he is eating their eyeballs. It is sincerely disturbing, perhaps more so than any of the original illustrations.

8. The T. S. Elliot line “I will show you terror in a handful of dust” that was used on original 1988 advertisements for The Sandman gets used seamlessly in the story as early as the first issue. Needless to say, I liked this.

9. Virtually no one directly calls Morpheus The Sandman in the audio drama. This is a little odd but not necessarily bad. He is called Lord Morpheus or Dream of The Endless. In fact the original scene of Alex finding Morpheus listed in the Paginarum Fulvarum (Yellow Pages) is altered to accommodate this change of using Lord Morpheus and Dream of The Endless in place of some other titles. In that scene in the comics he was originally “Kinge of Dremes.”

10. Some accidental subtle changes to Death’s characterization. Death comes off as more distracted while Morpheus is trying to tell her what he has just done and been through. I realize this was partly to describe to the reader that she was picking a flower and playing with it but it unfortunately impacted how her personality came out. It was like she just didn’t care. And Death, herself, takes over the narration, including some rather cruel sarcastic narration commentary during the scene where the stand-up comedian dies. This is a bit of a criticism but sometimes changes like that influence how you see a character. Also why did she sound slightly disgusted when Morpheus asked where they were going next and her reply was New Jersey? It’s a common joke for those of us who were raised in New York but it doesn’t really fit Death.

11. Between chapters 5 through 8 I could pretty much sense DC corporate overlords looming overhead and determining how certain canon characters must be described or not described. Even in chapter 3 there is a change with John Constantine, a small one, but it’s there, nevertheless. This is one scene that was changed for the audio drama. The story ended with Morpheus agreeing to deal with Constantine’s nightmares for him in the comic but I guess since Constantine having nightmares became a thing in later comics by different writers they had to acknowledge that Morpheus couldn’t get rid of them forever somehow...

12. Morpheus is now given a little magick word to say when unlocking a door. It’s used twice. I believe it’s "âpreté." This is added for obvious reasons.

13. This is one that bothers me a little bit. Jed Walker’s foster parents are referred to as his “step parents.” This is a common mistake. A step parent is someone who marries your biological or legal parent. A foster family is not a step family. Foster parents are often temporary and are paid by the government to look after the foster child. Foster parents have not legally adopted the child. Sometimes the lack of official adoption is solely because the birth parents are still alive and have not relinquished the rights as parents. Most foster parents do have good intentions. Foster parents are often NOT evil abusers but much like the negative literary depictions of orphanages (which lead to America renaming most of them “Group homes” instead of actually improving the bad ones...) it has become a common trope in fiction writing.

In misusing “Stepfather” I see this mistake often in comics, such as in Marvel where Odin has been called both Loki’s Foster Father and Step Father. He’s Loki’s adoptive father. Laufey wanted nothing to do with him. And Odin is not being paid by the government to look after him. Nor has Odin married one of Loki’s birth parents. He adopted him. The distinction can be very important to many people.

Similarly I got annoyed by the 1999 DVD and VHS re-release of Labyrinth because the back of the box called Toby Sarah’s step-brother. Canonically Toby is her half-brother, not step-brother. A half-brother means he is her brother by the genetic biology of one parent. A step-brother means he is her brother because his parent married her parent and there is no genetic connection. It is an annoying and common mistake. Yes, you can have a deep emotional bond with step-family but the terminology matters to many people.

And there you go. All the changes to The Sandman that I can recall from comic to audio drama. Most are petty, some are good, some not so good. But unlike the many articles claiming it’s a word for word transfer, I’m obsessive enough to have noticed the differences.

Introduction

Due to rough circumstances, you were unable to keep living with your mother in the city, and had to move onto one of the many properties your late grandfather had owned. Luckily, your grandfather was a smart man and before passing, left you a large amount of savings you could live on for a few years. So that’s how you started your life in Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley was quite a beautiful town. It wasn’t too big, with only a 100,000 residents, but big enough that it reminded you of certain parts of the city you had come from. Before leaving back to the city, your mother had helped transfer you in Stardew High school, or SDHC where you’d have to call home for the next 3 years.

Stardew high had roughly 2,000 or so students so you hadn’t expected to be noticed transferring in the middle of the year. How wrong were you.

12 special students had taken an interest in you since arriving, and your name became a hot topic around school when you were officially deemed the president of the gardening club the moment you entered. It wouldn’t have been that scary if those 12 students weren’t the most skilled, and popular kids in the school.

Many of them were top in the state, if not the country, for their skills while the others were basically school mascots with overwhelming amounts of school pride. There were only two modest and skilled students who hadn’t a huge part in spreading their name out there like the others and yet, they were still part of the special 12.

These two students were named Penny and Harvey; instead of taking part in clubs, they decided that doing more conventional things like studying medicine or tutoring stuggling students was way more important.

Penny is a very quiet girl; she’s got strong opinions but no voice, which is why she had denied presidency to the debate club her freshman year. Instead, she opted in tutoring students who are a little slower in other subjects — the kids she tutored often excelled after her sessions and wouldn’t need assistance any longer. She would’ve been valedictorian too but again, her voice wasn’t loud enough to earn her the position.

• Penny is a junior

• Penny is often found in the library reading, tutoring or helping the librarians organize shelves

Harvey is a very smart boy; deciding since a very young age that he would become a doctor and help the injured and dying. When Harvey wasn’t studying medicine, he would be in the nurses clinic learning world experiences and medicine measuring. The nurses don’t mind him being in the clinic during classes because he had already learned the material months ahead.

• Harvey is a junior

• He is known around school for skipping a grade and having the brightest future out of the special 12

Then there’s the skilled. The 5 students that had earned that named were naturally gifted kids that often used those to an advantage — they awed everyone when in action.

Shane of the cooking club. Shane is by far, one of the most aggressive and rude people you’ve ever met. But he has a gentle side to him as well. When faced in both cooking and baking competitions, he rises upon all his competitors with dishes that only highest of chefs could succeed in pulling off in such a short amount of time. He’s rude but his peers still adore him nonetheless.

• Shane is a junior

• He raises hundreds for the school when bake sales come around — everyone waits all year just to taste his molasses cookies or triple layer fudge brownies

Alex, star quarterback of the football team. Although Alex isn’t intellectually the most gifted, he is very skilled on the football field when he’s tasked with dodging, swirling and throwing the ball at all costs. He’s very handsome, and a little arrogant, but otherwise, a genuinely kind boy.

• Alex is a junior

• Alex is the high school sweetheart. He wins many games for his school, has been scouted by many different colleges already and has dyslexia

• He gets tutored by Penny when he has the time, Penny always scorns him for being late

Sebastian, the valedictorian. Now, when you think ‘valedictorian’, you see some scrawny nerd that studies constantly and stresses about everything. Well, Sebastian is a little special when it comes to that stereotype. The Stardew valedictorian comes to school in ripped skinny jeans and half combed bed head. He’s got piercings of all kinds, scars and looks that could kill. But he’s very gifted too. Sebastian has never gotten anything below 100%, hasn’t even missed a second of school and actively participates in school events even though he couldn’t give less of a shit about them.

• Sebastian is a junior

• Many kids know that Sebastian and Maru are siblings, but find it quite shocking when they are told that their parents also work at school

Maru, the president of the robotics club. Maru is a very gifted student, a common trait in her family. She’s actually the top student in the country for her engineering projects and robotics creations. She isn’t too fond of going out after school since most of her time is spent making blueprints or organizing competitions for her club, but can’t bare to see Sebastian mope at another pep rally by himself.

• Maru is a junior

• Her and Sebastian had actually created half of the computers in the computer lab. She put them together while he coded them

Leah, the art prodigy. You had actually heard about Leah before coming to a Stardew; her art being displayed in one of the most famous galleries in the world, but were surprised when you found out she had attended a generic high school. Her art is displayed across the banters of the second floor and one of her sculptures is the main piece of the school’s entrance.

* Leah is a junior

* Leah is quite modest about her art, and doesn’t like to talk about it if she isn’t currently working on another piece or really if a conversation doesn’t involve art at all

Then there’s the school pride mascots. The other 5 either deal with special causes, contribute to local communities a lot or are basically just popular.

Haley, the head cheerleader. Haley is quite popular not only in school, but worldwide too. At a young age, she had been scouted for a modeling agency that sky rocketed her reputation and displayed her beauty on many different products and billboards. It only made sense that she would also become head cheerleader for her winning smile and overbearing personality on the field.

* Haley is a junior

* Haley’s personality isn’t really a surprise once she’s done putting up an act. She’s kind when she feels like she can trust you, but otherwise, she bites harder than Shane at times.

Emily, the president of fashion club. Much like her sister, Emily had been scouted out by the same modeling agency, but quit a year or two into the gig to pursue her own clothes line she had been working on since the start. Often, her club is filled with envious kids who adore her modern works and fancy tailoring. She owns her own company, but chooses to graduate school before working on her career right away.

* Emily is a junior

* Emily and her club often make the costumes for Elliot’s drama club when play season comes around. Her clothes are put on display after being worn

Elliot, president of the drama club. Elliot had always had a passion for writing plays and directing them. He was also quite a phenomenal actor, and often attracted people who weren’t even attending the school to his plays. He was adored by the English teacher, no surprise, and had many people swoon over his looks.

* Elliot is a junior

* He’s a famous modern poet, but uses a pen name because he prefers to stay anonymous until he graduates

Abigail, founder one of the human rights club. Abigail is a strong willed girl who is often found preaching about human rights and leading many of the parades in Stardew Valley. She’s a huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and runs a women’s shelter during the summer. Her peers adore her and Sam as one of the most well known duos in the school for running courses about abusive relationships and drug abuse as an elective.

* Abigail is a junior

* When Abigail has free time, she usually makes positivity bracelets that students flash around outside of school for the cool aesthetic4

Sam, founder two of the human rights club. Sam is loud and has such an infectious laugther that it’s hard not to want to be around him 24/7. He participates in quite a bit of funder raisers for certain organizations he’s passionate about and volunteers at a few different preschools to play with the kids and teach basic life skills like stranger danger and saying no. He’s a loud cutie who gets asked out about 6 times a day.

* Sam is a junior

* Sam loves hanging out with Abigail and often helps around school when she’s busy

Farmer:

* You are president of the gardening club because the club had actually been falling apart and only a hand full of students were left since the president had graduated a year prior of you transferring

* What had brought all the attention on you was saving the school’s dying garden in only a week or two. The wilting petals had looked as if they were replaced with luscious, healthy flowers that everyone had stopped to look at at least once a day

Thoughts and opinions on the last 2 clips of episode 5

Things I liked:

Imane dancing

The video that Basille did was sweet

Idriss hyping Imane up to dance

Lucas being out and proud and is ready to introduce his bf to everyone lol

Sofiane’s 😍 for Imane when she was dancing

No fight scene between the two boy squads because it didn’t make sense in the og (also to add I think there is no french balloon squad?? They weren’t properly introduced in the series.. they don’t even have names like in the og everyone of the balloon squad had names and they were more present in the scenes compared to Skam France but idk this is just what I think)

Imane being honest and straight up said that her and Sofiane could not be together. (yeah that hurts for me too I was rooting for them) Yeah she friend zoned him but she’s being honest

Seeing all of them together was nice

Things I didn’t like:

The girls still got Daphne the vodka for her birthday lol I mean... y’all can put in more effort maybe

Ingrid. Everything she does just made Imane side eyeing her and she’s right to do that. Did she purposely walked in front of them while they were taking the photo? Maybe so that she can be included in it. She gave Daphne a different gift hmmm that’s some shady thing to do yeah

Ingrid and Idriss. In the og we didn’t have this storyline.. so this might lead to a conflict between Imane and her brother

Emma and Alex not working out?? Tbh Alex seems like an upgraded version of P.Chris. And he seems to care more about their relationship than Emma is. They built up their rs on insta this season and they’re just done like that??

Lucas suspicious look when Idriss was gone. (I have a feeling hes gonna assume that Idriss is homophobic and will question Imane about it?) ((prove me wrong pls))

Manon and Sofiane. I kinda felt this was gonna happen even though maybe she had an instinct about Imane and Sofiane. Idk who I’m more upset with?? Sofiane has the right to feel hurt but to kiss her best friend really did not make sense to me. And they kissed at the place where Imane and sofiane had their first date?? Manon is listening to the girls and trying to move on. But ok maybe not Sofiane tho. This wouldn’t hurt more if they didn’t look so happy after the kiss. Lol I’m upset y’all.

Things I’m kinda 🤔🤨 about

Alexia and Arthur.. hmm idk how I feel about this lol

Yann and Chloe.. it was hinted at the end of season 3 but still idk how I feel about this cuz I’m the og I was shocked by the Jonas and Emma pairing lolz

The whole Idriss and Elliot thing. I guess we will find out in the next episode( I hope??)

To add, I liked the Sofimane dynamics and scenes before this but honestly idk how they gonna resolve this conflict. You can tell that Sofiane was upset and heartbroken when Imane said they could only be friends.. I was hoping Skam France would go a different direction and made Sofiane Muslim. I know it was a reach haha but I guess one can dream

Best of 2018 in Cinema

Tomorrow is the Oscar night. It is kind of a summary of the whole year in cinema. I’m a huge film fan so I watched a lot of them in whole 2018. Now I will try to present my list of best movies in different categories. To make it easier for me I will use categories used by Academy but I’m not gonna list my own favorites. Also I won’t judge all of them for two reasons. I didn’t watch enought movies to do it justice (documentaries for example) or I don’t have proper knowledge to have an opinon about something (some of technician categories). It’s gonna go like this. Category -> names of movies of people that I believe did excellent job (random order) and the name of the winner at the end. And lastly...it is completly subjective list.

I really think Roma deserve a title of best movie of 2018. I’m not sure if it will win with overrated (in my opinion) Bohemian Rhapsody this year, but in the end Oscars are maybe not the most important rewards? Because having already so many wins this year from other important groups from cinema industry isn’t Roma already a winner? I honestly fell in love with this movie instantly. Cinematography, beautiful Mexico, two outstanding female perfomences, few heartbreaking scenes and strong but simple story. Movie was a emotional journey. If I had to place three medialist of this year with Roma as a winner it would be Suspiria second and Green Book third.

That’s my opinion about 2018 in cinema.
