Bloom / Broom Series

The new birthday series is katakana wordplay that can be read as either “broom” or “bloom”, with an illustration of a blooming broom.

The word for ‘broom’ is not the same as the word for ‘bloom’ in Japanese. Like most wordplay, a bit of explanation is needed.

Broom is 箒 (houki) in Japanese, while bloom is 咲く(saku).

This ブルーム birthday series is using katakana: an alphabet created explicitly for words from other languages. It is phonetic, so—unlike kanji—each symbol does not have its own unique meaning; they’re just sounds.

The katakana symbol ル、in ブルーム、can be written as either “loo” or “roo" because the Japanese language doesn’t actually have the R or L sounds found in the Roman alphabet. The closest thing we have is pronounced more like a combination of the two, which, in turn, doesn’t exist in English.

If a native Japanese-language speaker with only a basic English-language education has to write a word in English that includes either an L or an R, there is going to be a more or less 50% chance that they guess wrong, because for many people it really is just guessing.

This is why “Engrish” mistakes are so common: we are trying to write a sound that doesn’t exist, and the closest equivalent we have doesn’t exist in the language we’re trying to write in. (Well, sometimes they're mistakes, but other times they can be intentional katakana puns!)

“So how would someone named ルキ know how their name is supposed to be spelled? Ruki or Luki?”

They decide! When you get a Japanese passport the person at city hall tells you that you are free to decide how you want your name to be written in romaji. There is no wrong answer!

Back to broom/bloom, in katakana the two words are identical. How do we know which is which?

We don’t!

If it’s in katakana, there is no way to tell the difference between words like crown/clown, wrong/long, right/light, etc; we have to judge based on context alone.

So Yana gave us a theme where both broom and bloom are entirely logical in-context, called it the ブルーム series and sat back to watch the world burn.

Also, Yana tweeted the other day that while she participated in the creation of the overall concept, clothing design and art direction, a professional "flower artist" has been hired for this project and put in charge of designing the customized bouquets for each character! Flower language!

“I can probably get this done in 2-3 hours” I say as I proceed to put on my clown costume and absolutely overcommit on the details for the whole ass day. But frankly? Worth it. It’s a day late due to my hubris, but happy 5th birthday to Sad Bug Game! I swear the fuckin anniversary sneaks up on me every year and it always feels like the last one was mere months ago. But at least this time I found the motivation to make something, which also ended up being more art of Hollow who I really don’t draw enough even if I want to. Also once again Hollow + flowers/flower crowns cause I just love that aesthetic too much. To many more years of buggy art to come.

Children grew up at an alarming rate. Eskel could have sworn it was only a few blinks ago that Geralt took guardianship of baby Ciri with Yennefer. Now, she was turning six and Eskel had been roped into chaperoning a birthday party. Again. Though he did have a scrawled invite arrive in the post, painstakingly stickered, glittered and signed by Ciri. It was nice that she wanted him there but Eskel knew that if she hadn't invited him as a guest then Geralt would have been gently bullying him into helping out on the day anyway. Not like Eskel minded, he loved Ciri and would happily do anything for her.

The big day rolled round and Eskel turned up early at Geralt's house. There were already balloons around the door, the house inside was decorated with birthday banners and, in true Ciri fashion, dragons. That year she had very sweetly demanded a clown for her birthday and Eskel was curious to see whether Geralt had given in despite his strong dislike of them. Why someone felt the need to put on so much makeup and parade around in ridiculous clothes was beyond reason. Once, while drunk, Geralt had admitted it made him uneasy to the point of it actually being a fear.

"Ah, you're here," Geralt said as he stepped out of the kitchen and spotted that Eskel had let himself in. "I need to have a word with you."

A strong hand wrapped around Eskel's bicep and tugged him into the kitchen. He went willingly enough, curious as to what secret Geralt was going to let him in on this time. They stood in silence for a moment, Geralt watching him with serious eyes.

"Don't fuck the clown."

Frankly, Eskel was a little offended at the request. "Is this because of the demon stripper Yen hired for your birthday?" The look Geralt gave him was answer enough. "Come on, she was hot, was off the clock by the time I took her home. And she kept her horns on."

The punch to the arm should have been expected and Eskel grumbled as he rubbed the soreness left behind. Before he could complain, movement in the garden caught his attention. There was the clown, hauling a large, colourful bag to the small gazebo that had been set up. Suddenly, Eskel understood Geralt's request and he promptly decided it wasn't something to pay attention.

"Oh."

"No." Geralt said flatly as Eskel took one last look at the clown and turned to go out into the garden. "Eskel, I'm serious. No! Don't fuck the clown!"

"I won't," Eskel called over his shoulder. "I'd let him fuck me."

Unfortunately for Eskel, Yennefer was in the garden and seemingly in on the "don't let Eskel fuck the clown" mission. Which was quite rude on several levels. Firstly, Eskel was offended that the other two thought he would jeopardise Ciri's birthday party for the sake of a fuck. Secondly, he was an adult who did not need to be guarded and protected. If he wanted to stick his dick in someone, nobody but he and the intended person had any right to object.

As it was, he still found out the clown was called Lambert and, if Eskel focused then he could make out the most sinfully plush lips under the layers of makeup. It was on pretty thick but Eskel couldn't feel like he was in a place to judge, he'd never had to dress up as a clown before so that slathering was probably normal. It was difficult to make out the true features of Lambert under all of it but Eskel knew for sure he was handsome.

There was no time to get to know Lambert any better because Ciri and her friends turned up in a wild, screaming mass and it was all hands up deck. Balloon animals were the start of Lambert's entertainment and Eskel had to give it to him, he was good. Especially when he looked at the parents with a half made giraffe that most definitely looked like a cock before becoming something more child friendly. Eskel didn't think he'd snorted that hard in a long while. It actually hurt.

Next came the cake and Lambert took a well earned break. Well, not quite, because he happily made crowns for all the adults, showing them how to untwist them into swords if they wanted a fight later on when the children had gone. And he winked at Eskel when he gave him a crown and a dubious looking sword that was most certainly two twists away from being a cock.

"Just how many balloon cock shapes do you know?" He had blurted out and quietly adored the smug smirk Lambert sported.

"All of them. But I like to model them on real life ones. And I don't have a model at the moment."

Eskel barely held back on a guffaw at such a blatant come on. It was only Geralt's grip on the back of his neck that held him in check, along with the low growl of "you will not fuck the clown."

"Not while he's wearing large circus trousers," Eskel had agreed.

His composure was totally wrecked by Lambert cocking an eyebrow at him. "Want to see what's under the big top?" Because yes, Eskel really did.

After cake and presents Lambert had a set of magic tricks to show. it started off quite well, nothing impressive but the cards were fun to follow and Eskel saw how sleight of hand worked.

"And now," Lambert announced, pulling a top hat from under the table. "I will make a rabbit appear!"

The top hat did indeed look empty and Eskel was curious whether it would be a real rabbit and whether Lambert kept it to a traditional white on. Getting the children to join in with the chanting, Lambert tapped a wand against the hat and reached into it, only to frown. Rummaging in the hat, he cursed much to the children's delight.

"It seems our magic has gone a bit wonky," Lambert said, not hiding his agitation very well. "Rather than manifesting a rabbit in the hat, we have conjured him up somewhere in the garden."

"Maybe he's up your sleeve?" Ciri called. "You should check!"

There was no way the rabbit was up his sleeve but Lambert dutifully reached in. He pulled out a card, a couple of coins, an unending row of silk tissues, another wand that erupted into a bouquet of flowers. All of it was met by loud laughter and cheering from the children who were rolling around laughing the more frantically Lambert pulled things out.

By pure chance, Eskel gazed out over the garden, only to spot a large white rabbit merrily hopping towards the house. Quietly, he went to grab it, cradling the obviously well loved and spoilt creature, petting it out of habit. Watching Lambert grit his way through a few more rather lacklustre and failed magic tricks, Eskel couldn't help but be thoroughly charmed. He almost missed the growling sigh from next to him.

"Fine. Fuck the clown." Geralt looked utterly resigned.

With Lambert looking a little frayed around the edges, Eskel finally took pity on him. Walking up behind the children, he cleared his throat.

"There I was, trying to have a slice of cake when this suddenly appeared on my plate instead. I don't suppose any of you know anything about it?"

The cheer from the kids was deafening but Eskel only had eyes on Lambert and the almost palpable relief rolling off him in waves.

"Maybe if Lambert would care to whisk this rabbit away, it might bring my slice of cake back."

Rabbit carefully handed over with one last scritch between the ears, Eskel stepped back and happily joined in with the chanting to hide the rabbit in the top hat again. Thankfully it was a success and no rabbit was visible when Lambert showed his audience with a flourish.

After that the children were ushered away and Lambert was left in peace to pack away. Well, mostly in peace. Eskel lingered and watched, curious to see Lambert without the clown makeup.

"That was an entertaining set," Eskel commented, sorely tempted to casually lean against the leg of a gazebo. But it would never hold his weight so he refrained.

"Fucking Rabbit," Lambert growled, much more rigid and tight now that he wasn't performing for children. "I'm going to eat him for dinner if he does that again."

"And how often do you threaten him with that?"

After a telling silence, Lambert snorted. "Every other day. He's a bastard."

Valiantly, Eskel held back from commenting how pets usually turned out like owners. But then he'd have to admit to Lil Bleater being an absolute menace and what would that say about him? Instead he straightened up and sauntered closer to Lambert.

"So, the offer of seeing a pitched tent still available?"

He crowded against Lambert who gave him a once over before nodding. It was all the permission Eskel needed before kissing him, heedless of how makeup smeared against his skin. Behind them, the door to the house was slammed shut and Eskel had to pull away with a chuckle.

"I'm under strict instructions not to fuck the clown." His eyes were dark as he took in the smudged and ruined makeup around Lambert's lips. "So, either the clown fucks me, or you can take your makeup off."

There was hesitation in Lambert's expression. He was obviously torn, lower lip caught between his teeth. "I'm not-" he broke off and his shoulders hunched. "I'm not handsome like you under the makeup."

"I think you're plenty handsome enough. Why don't I help you take it off?"

Another pause before Lambert gave a nod. He sat on one of the chairs after handing Eskel the makeup remover and wipes. It was slow progress but the more Eskel saw, the more he liked. One half of Lambert's face was done and he flinched away from Eskel's touch.

"It's not pretty," he warned and Eskel nodded before reaching again. That time Lambert didn't move away but he was tense as a scar was unveiled.

"You worry that it's not pretty," Eskel rumbled, "yet you called me handsome with all my scars. Double standards much?"

There was no reply but Lambert couldn't meet his eyes. Gently, Eskel wiped the last of Lambert's makeup off and sat back with a grin. "Knew it. Utterly, devastatingly handsome. I'm afraid it's terminal."

That drew a laugh from Lambert at least and Eskel leaned in to kiss the giggled from his lips.

"I think Geralt and Yennefer can handle the kids from here on," Eskel purred. "Why don't I take you home?"

As they left, he sent a cheeky wave to Geralt who was watching them from the kitchen window. Eskel couldn't resist sending him a text from the car though.

"Thanks for the fun afternoon. Don't worry, I didn't fuck the clown. We'll play it safe though, he'll keep the shoes on to keep my knees comfortable though."

The reply from Geralt didn't bear repeating but it had Eskel throwing his head back and laughing.

“After Mom?  Ow!  Because she’s cute!  So cute!  Cute strawberry-blonde Mom, cute redhead horse, they’re both ginger, it makes sense!” Tony couldn’t quite stop laughing as he tried to duck the paper party cups his wife was throwing at him.

She wasn’t about to let him get away so easily, and chased him across the yard, dodging guests, chairs, and balloons. “I am going to smash birthday cake all over your face, Anthony Edward Stark!”

Morgan was hot on her parents’ heels, shrieking as her party hat and flower crown blew right off her head, “NOT MY UNICORN CAKE!  I HAVEN’T BLOWN OUT MY CANDLES!”

let’s set our stage, shall we?

first of all claude n anastacius’ dad is dead coz we don’t like him at all ew

so ana is the emperor, and claude is his heir presumptive (aka he’s got the strongest claim to the throne rn, but this can be changed by the birth of someone who has a stronger one - ie, anastacius’ child who would be the heir apparent) also bc “i know my mom and i gave u lots of childhood trauma that you prlly won’t be recovering from because therapists aren’t a thing here but here’s a crown you might get to make it better”

claude’s in a position where after the birth of ana’s kid/direct descendant, he’s gonna be given a duchy that athy should inherit after him while still retaining the title of prince

but after hearing of diana’s pregnancy, ana tells her and claude he doesn’t really plan on having children and wants to make their future kid his successor

he basically reserves a spot for their child in the directory and rather than announcing anything publically, anastacius names her athanasia after the sex is confirmed

then this mf obviously pulls a clown move and gets penelope pregnant and complicates things, ultimately naming her jennette, finding the name fitting - ‘god is gracious’

and really, what could be more evidence of god’s grace than the child he’s now fathering, when he thought his legacy would be ending with him?

anyways!!!

so since athy and jennette are born near the beginning of ana’s reign, both claude and anastacius are wayyy too busy trying to bring back the empire from the literal brink of bankruptcy and a possible war to really spend time w their kids

it’s alright, though!! lily is hired as athy’s nanny, while jennette gets kiel’s mom as hers

they all still live together, though obviously the main palace is for ana + jennette while claude + athy are in a separate one

this 'separate one’ is ruby palace after ana dismisses the concubines and he definitely 100% did this on purpose, and whenever he’s summoning claude he’s such a shit about it and goes about it the way you’d summon a deadass concubine

on a separate note, it’s surprisingly claude who visits athy first - he’s seen her here and there with lily but hasn’t ever had the chance to spend time w her. but now it’s almost been a year since athy’s birth (or diana’s death), her first birthday is fast approaching, and he is drunk

lily is a reallyyyy light sleeper and enters the nursery upon hearing someone inside

she doesn’t expect to see the prince standing above his daughter’s crib, a strand of her golden hair between his fingers as he just…stares at her

she approaches quietly, curtsying in greeting - he’s too absorbed to notice, and after a few minutes of silence lilian tells him, “babies can get lonely too, your highness.”

he glances at her then, confused. “how?” he really can’t understand how this girl, who can’t even speak yet comprehend something like loneliness

“princess athanasia is very responsive to her surroundings, much more than children her age usually are,” lily says, “and i like to believe children are able to tell when their parents are with them.”

he scoffs - what a foolish thought. still, claude sits by her bedside, and before he can register it, he’s taken over by sleep

the next night, claude makes his way towards the nursery and stiffly asks if athy could sleep beside him for the night - it’s fairly late, but lilian allows it

he’s gone to the main palace too early the next morning for athy to be awake, but she spent about two minutes tops worrying about the strange surroundings, saw the shiny chandelier and fancy bed and decided yes, she doesn’t mind this kidnapping

this becomes somewhat of a regular occurrence soon enough, and sometime that week she wakes up in the middle of the night with her nose pressed into something soft and literally falls off the huge ass bed at the realisation that this something soft is actually her papa’s hair (you just know that hair smells great i mean uh-)

this mans wakes up and peeks at her on the ground, reaches out to grab her from the front of her nightdress (he swears it’s exactly how he’s seen lilian do it) and plops her back onto the bed

she backs up OBVIOUSLY, you don’t just wake up with a random ass man in your bed and just vibe together?? lee jihye is dying but he glares at her for disturbing his sleep and athy pulls her act together in 0.000001 secs as claude pulls her closer and goes back to sleep

as athy grows, claude starts allowing her to visit his office during the day until it becomes a sort of ritual - he’d have tea and milk prepared and she’d come, sitting somewhere completing a puzzle or sum while he works

mans nearly tears down the entire imperial palace the day she doesn’t show up until he finds her in the garden, teaching jettie the 'proper’ way to hold a teacup during tea parties while lilian and roger’s wife, vivian, watch

athy emotionally blackmails asks him to join the tea party, so half an hour later, anastacius finds his brother sitting on the grass with a plastic teacup that athy’s filling with hot water as she lectures him to learn to fix his posture from lily so he can sit like a “proper dignified lady”

so in the beginning, jennette actually ends up spending more time with claude than her dad. though one day, the brothers are in the audience hall when athy runs in with felix running after her telling her not to run (there’s a shit ton of guards surrounding anastacius so felix has orders to be with princess athanasia when claude is with ana)

anastacius is used to this sight, and watches, smirking at his brother’s subtle smile as athy offers him this wonky looking flower crown - claude accepts it wordlessly, and ana wants to slap his ass to sanity, who wouldn’t thank their kid when they do adorable things like this??

but then they hear another voice, and in comes jennette with vivian not too far behind her. now jettie has a much cleaner looking crown in her hand, but she glances at her father’s elaborate and beautiful crown all embedded with gems and glittering and then at the one she’s fashioned out of daisies

she's always thought she was much like her uncle - jennette was so fascinated by the plain daises, they weren’t flashy but caught her eye all the same - while athy was shiny and bold like her dad

but now she’s second guessing her choice, how could she make such a simple crown for her dad, the emperor??

claude sighs from beside anastacius and literally picks off his brother’s crown before tossing it towards a very tired felix

athy urges jennette forward, and with a bright red covering her entire face she offers the crown. jennette glances at her uncle for comfort before muttering, “for papa”

anastacius.exe has crashed

this blushly, embarrassed, and apparently talented at flower crowns kid was his?

long story short he forgets to breathe or react and jettie thinks he hates the crown and hates her and won’t ever like to see her again so she starts getting teary

claude pushes his brother’s head down before athy can be convicted for murder

ana 100% almost faints when her tiny chubby fingers delicately place the crown in place, he’ll never admit it but he closed his eyes and almost hugged her instinctively as she shyly adjusted some of his bangs around the new headpiece, muttering, “papa pretty”

jennette rushes back to her sister, who’s glaring daggers at the emperor

anastacius tries to smile to calm jennette a bit and maybe look nice enough for his niece to not kill him in his sleep

right well kiel becomes the royal playmate for both the princesses - athy has her classes with him since she’s advanced and honestly they’ll be going back forth with infodumps one minute and he’s teaching her to make paper airplanes the next

(she writes notes on the paper airplanes the next time she’s in claude’s office and flies them towards him, stuff like, 'does uncle cius also snore loudly like papa?’ and he gets seriously offended like a pissbaby)

jennette first met kiel when he was visiting his mom - vivian had to leave for a bit and she taught him a bunch of flower names and their meanings in the meantime - he makes sure to research a new flower every time he visits her, and brings her a bouquet of said flowers she always knows them but never says anything coz she doesn’t wanna hurt his feelings and he gets so excited as he tells her about their meanings it’s so cute

speaking of jennette - claude and ana may seem worlds apart but they’re at the same level of emotionally constipated

ana watches his brother and niece interact and he craves that, an unconditional, timeless love that can’t possibly be tainted by ulterior motives or the like, but he just doesn’t know how to approach little jettie

it seems easy enough - she’s a smiley, sweet girl and theoretically would be friendly if he is to approach her

but gods he’s just so ashamed - such a sweet babe grew without either of her parents and he doesn’t have an excuse because holy hell, even claude is close to athy

he’s being served food in his chambers when he asks the maid about jennette, and she tells him how among her first words was 'love’ and the brunette would just stroll the palace pointing at people and declare “love you” and watch their face light up

thats so CUTE OMFG

his jaw is touching the floor when he’s told that his daughter knows the names of every worker within the palaces

at this point he’s honestly questioning whether this child is his at all

he’s absolutely horrified at the realisation that this maid, who doesn’t even work in jennette’s part of the palace, knows more about her than he does - hell, he hadn’t even asked vivian to keep him updated on her growth, what right does he have to stick himself into her life now?

now, the maid quietly suggests starting with something small like inviting jennette to tea and

of course he goes about it the wrong way??

poor jettie thinks she’s being tested by the ruthless emperor on her etiquette and spends the entire day practicing with claude after athy guilted him into it

she’s so nervous in front of her dad that he honestly feels even guiltier, and anastacius hurries to grab her hands in his to calm their tremble as she reaches to serve him tea

she apologises lmao and he’s just so flustered himself that he orders for her to sit down and instructs her through a few deep breaths

as she calms down, ana serves her the tea before asking whether girls her age even drink tea

she says no and you can literally hear the crickets

he slides the cup he’s poured for her over to his side before gesturing towards the deserts (it was claude’s daughter-luring pro tip) on her side

“you look like you read a lot,” ana says, before asking whether she’s been reading anything interesting lately

“i don’t, actually,” she tells him shyly

anastacius laughs at how of all things his hate for books is what she got from him - and only when jennette chuckles does he realise that he said that out loud

he lets her go around her bedtime, feeling rather… energized? he doesn’t know how to explain it, but it’s a good feeling

he’s busy again the next day, but has an aide send her flowers - the same ones she had put in her flower crown for him

yes lucas is still sleeping in the palace, yes athy still finds him

so athy sees the flowers from uncle cius and is enraged, literally walks up to her uncle and demands he leave jennette alone if he’s only gonna break her heart by neglecting her

and so we have fifteen minutes of the emperor of obelia stuttering as he explains himself to this seven year old

smfh his cluelessness reminds her of her own dad and she takes pity on ana’s suffering soul

the next morning, to give him a chance to redeem himself, athy asks all four of them to have breakfast together - they accept the invitation, and despite an awkward start, the meal seems to be going well

peace is not written in this family’s fate however, and this is where the first coughing up blood thing happens

ohhhh the palace staff almost gets massacred that day

athy’s limp body is moved to jennette’s room since it’s the closest - lily bursts into tears at the very sight of her princess, jennette refuses to eat or drink until her sister can, felix hears his heart break, claude is barely holding himself together

ana is livid - who dares poison a member of his family? what has he even done to earn the privilege of calling these girls his family, when he can’t protect them, at the very least?

claude absolutely refuses to leave her room and finishes all his work right outside her door, lest she wake up in pain again

anastacius can’t keep his own anxiety about jennette at bay, insisting she sleep with him as long as claude stays with athanasia - he can tell she’s drained, and she ends up sharing some of her worries late at night. he soothes both her worries and her cries, letting her curl up into him despite it being a rather uncomfortable position

the family is thrown into chaos again once they realise it was never poison, but athy’s own magic that caused this

aka when chibi lucas drops by and voodoos her back to 100%, everyone legit starts worshipping the ground he walks on - he saved their precious princess!!

ana insists on making him athy’s royal playmate after hearing she isn’t fully healed yet

what does this give us? well, a very very early lucas vs kiel

since they’ve both got the title of royal playmate, they constantly argue on whether being the future duke alpheus is a better title than the future royal magician

the girls are always dragged into this - athy always takes kiel’s side to avenge blackie, and jennette likes kiel too, but the young magician sir saved her sister!!

so.

when vivian passes away due to an illness, it’s like roger is an entirely different person

jennette + kiel + athy all help with the funeral preparations since she was a mother/aunt to them all

felix seems to be paying extra attention to kiel

it isn’t long after this that roger decides to send him to arlanta for his studies, leaving behind two disillusioned princesses

athy spends her time viciously studying to stay ahead of arlanta’s curriculum, while jennette takes an interest in cooking

(athy tries and fails spectacularly; lucas laughs at her and jettie accidentally serves him his favourite food too salty to be edible)

dumb/stupid, and fun idea! What if, during a trip to gotham mari/ladybug ends up using her magic for some reason and it turns Harley into a young version of herself. Before she is turned into a teen she sees the way the class treat Mari. Now that she is a kid she enrolls into DuPont and becomes Mari's bodyguard/big sis.

Note: I haven’t been in a writing mood recently but this definitely helped to get me back into it.

Adrien purred, nudging into Selina's hand as she scratched his locks. Marinette giggled, embracing the woman and her boyfriend in an abrupt movement with a beam gracing her features.

"Thank you, Mom," she whispered, tilting her head up to meet her gaze. "For everything. I love you."

Cat Woman smiled, before leaning forward to place kisses on the cheeks of the teenagers in her presence. Adrien rumbled louder at the action, causing two sets of chuckles to start up on his sides.

"And I love the both of you too," she spoke sincerely. "But don't think that means I'll let you off for sneaking out this morning."

Marinette pouted. "Pleeeeeaaase? We went to see Alfred to ask him about stuff involving the miraculous."

"Is that true, Kitten?" Selina quizzed, glancing down to the boy in her hug. He looked up with enlarged pupils, that shimmered with innocence as he nodded in agreement.

She sighed. "Fine, but don't let me catch you out by yourselves again, okay?" At their voiced compliance, a grin stretched across her face. "So...what information did you get?"

Magic swirled around Marinette's fingertips - the colour of it a deep red as it began to travel to her elbows and arms. Green from the male beside her coiled with the power, starting from their intertwined hands and creating vines of energy that extended to their hearts.

Warmth flooded hers and Adrien's senses as they inhaled in unison. Ripples of creation and destruction levelled their skin, spreading until it wormed deep into their souls.

Silence thickened the atmosphere.

All of a sudden, there was a slam nearby. They snapped their eyes open, focus broken and instead on Harley Quinn, who had strolled in with shopping bags in her grip.

"Hey, Cuties! Whatcha doing?" she queried out of curiosity.

Two pairs of eyes flared white, as something shot out to the centre of the jester's chest.

"Girl, no way! This is your aunt?"

Marinette chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck in a gesture of nervousness while nodding. Alya sucked in a breath, before scanning over the teenager at her side.

She had strawberry blonde locks tied into two pigtails - that matched her friend's - except for the fact that their tips were dyed crimson and blue. Plastered on her face was a mischievous grin, displaying her emotion to any watching.

"Wow..." the reporter awed. "This is awesome, really, but how did it happen in the first place?"

Adrien lifted a finger, speaking up with, "Uhh...I think I may have an explanation for that. You see, we were trying to cast a de-aging spell so that we could have guardianship over the Miracle Box for longer, but it backfired. Harley was the one hit with our magic and was de-aged to how old we are now."

"Yikes..." Alya said, wincing. "Does Selina know?"

"Nope!" Harley piped up, sporting a bright smirk. "And I plan to keep it that way! Lord knows what she'd do if she found out about ya stupid class."

Marinette grimaced. Her bluebell eyes wandered over to where the students of Miss Bustier's class were. They were all huddled around who she guessed to be Lila - interest on their expressions as she babbled away.

A sigh escaped her lips, making Adrien wrap an arm around her body and pull her in for a tight hug. She beamed, nestling into it with a blush invading her cheeks.

Harley jumped up a few times at the sight, then gestured for Alya to snap a photo. The reporter did so, giggling as the couple soon snapped apart and glared at them.

"I can't believe you guys!" someone shouted out of nowhere, causing everyone in the vicinity to turn their attention to the person. It was Alix, with her arms folded and a scowl marring her features.

"...What?"

"Hanging out with Harley Quinn's daughter?" Ivan scoffed, shaking his head. "No wonder you're working with Hawk Moth, Marinette. You probably want an excuse to fit in with a loser like her."

Adrien grit his teeth, readying himself to defend her, when a firm pat on his back halted his attempt. He frowned, gazing down as the jester in his presence strolled forward with hands on her hips.

The sheer confidence she radiated made many in the class reconsider their arguments, but most chose to remain standing tall. Nino gained a deadpan look, sharing a roll of the eyes with his girlfriend when watching said thing happen.

"What did you just say, Skull Boy?" she questioned, tone edging at a growl as a glint of danger shone in her pupils. "'Cause I'll have you know that my neic- cousin here needs no excuse whatsoever to hang out with me. You, on the other hand, do I'm afraid - along with Sausage-Hair over there."

She pointed to Lila, who reared back and forced several tears to well up in her eyes. Mylene rushed to comfort her, along with Rose and Juleka.

"Wait, 'cousin'?" Kim quizzed, glancing back and forth between the two with furrowed brows as if the answer would come to him.

"Yeah. Marinette here, daughter of my aunt Cat Woman and my cousin, is worthy of hanging out with me, and so are her friends. That excludes you children, so feel free to scatter before I make ya."

Marinette opened her mouth to talk, yet was stopped by Adrien's gentle grip on her shoulder and the shaking of his head. She pursed her lips, staying still as her classmates clearly weren't perturbed by the blonde girl's words.

"She's not the daughter of Cat Woman!" Lila sobbed, while fat streams of water mixed with mascara gushed down her cheeks. "I'm her honorary niece! She even stole a diamond necklace as a birthday gift since she adores me so much!"

The baker blinked in surprise, not noticing the grin that lit up Harley's face as she lifted a hand up and clicked her fingers, commanding, "Bud, Lou!"

There were yelps from nearby, that were followed by two large cats suddenly jumping into the hotel lobby with their fangs bared. Lou lunged for an orange bag on a coffee table to the side, soon sinking her teeth in and tearing through cheap fabric.

The other ran over to Adrien, who didn't so much as flinch as he began to pet Bud's fur. She drooled, leaning closer as Marinette also reached out to do the same as her boyfriend.

Harley laughed, opening her arms wide to allow Lou to charge in for a huge embrace. She licked her face, leaving trails of saliva that the clown didn't even bother to wipe off.

Lila shrieked, stumbling onto the floor as the students around her crouched behind pieces of furniture in an attempt to hide. Alya simply held her phone up, recording the scene with a small smile.

Behind a pane of glass on a higher level, a female in black attire chuckled. The goggles she usually wore were settled atop her head.

At her shoulder, a cat kwami sat, cackling at the pure chaos that emanated from within the building.

In My Head, We Belong Chapter Seven (Crystal/Gigi) -- Zyan

a/n: hi, hello, i’m sad this is coming to an end, but grateful for all the love it got. ❤ i hope you guys like this short-ish sort of epilogue. i feel like it’s fitting for the clowns 😌

“Are they always this intense when they play Uno?” Nicky wonders, pressing her cards against her chest. Gigi snickers with a shrug.

“They’re usually more violent,” she merely replies, and Nicky musters something in French.

It’s Jackie’s birthday and since it happens to also be Easter, they decided to celebrate in the restaurant. And the best part is that they didn’t even have to spend a dime on the decorations - it’s already decorated with all the flowers they compulsively bought at the fair. It’s nice, even if poor Blair is on the edge of drowning in tissues because of her allergies.

True to themselves, they decided to play Uno once dinner was over, and Jackie may or may not be regretting inviting Nicky the moment they decided to play said game.

“Jaida, honey, I don’t think you should throw that one,” Jan says, she’s sitting across Jaida’s lap, and, allegedly, helps her play; but it only causes Jaida to lose all common sense, and that results in her having half of the deck already.

“Jan, I don’t think you’re helping,” Yuhua pipes up from the other side of the table, causing the group to snicker.

Jan pouts, folding her arms, and Jaida is quick to place a kiss on Jan’s cheek.

“Don’t mind them, babe, you’re an amazing help,” she assures her and Jan smiles giddily.

Normally, Gigi would make a comment on how disgustingly sweet they are, but she’s lost her Making-Fun-Of-Jan privilege; she’s got an arm wrapped around Crystal’s waist and her chin placed on her shoulder, watching her play.

It’s been almost three weeks since they found out they both liked each other thanks to the mere flower crowns, and so far they’re happy. Really happy. It was awkward at first, getting used to each other’s random ways of showing affection after just being friends all this time.

They haven’t told the other girls yet, but it’s not as if it’s necessary. Sometimes Crystal will steal kisses from Gigi as she’s waiting for her orders, or Gigi will smile with fondness at anything Crystal says or does. It’s safe to say they’re pretty transparent about it, not even bothering to hide it.

“Nena, don’t throw that one; you got three +4, why not start a war?” Crystal whispers in her ear with a devilish smile. Gigi does as she says, because why the hell not.

So she slams a +4 and the table gasps, Nicky groans and throws a green +2. And Blair might look innocent, but all that innocence flies out of the window when she slams another +4 on the table, exclaiming ‘not this time, bitches’ with a high pitched tone. But Heidi isn’t about to pick up ten cards, so she also responds with a +4, and she gives an evil laugh as she sees Silky panic and search between her cards for anything to kill off Heidi’s.

But sadly, this time around she’s got nothing.

Silky bangs her fist onto the table with a frown.

“Crystal, you bitch, I know you told your woman to throw that +4 to get revenge,” she exclaims in an accusatory tone, prompting the whole table to erupt in laughter.

Gigi’s heart gives a jump when Silky refers to her as ‘Crystal’s woman’. They’re not official yet, but somehow the title it doesn’t bother her.

Crystal sticks her tongue out and laughs.

“Don’t look at me, it’s simply karma!” She lies seamlessly with a shrug, and Gigi snickers.

“Wait, that reminds me, haven’t I banned you from Uno?” Widow asks, throwing a red five to the pile and restarting the whole thing. Silky shrugs with a smug smile.

“Blame Miss Brianna over here, she was the one in charge of handing out the cards.” Silky points to the blonde, who cocks a sly brow.

“Bitch, I didn’t hand you anything, you took out seven cards on your own when no one was looking,” Brianna points out, and Silky folds her arms with a childish pout.

Nicky laughs wholeheartedly and elbows Jackie softly.

“You weren’t lying when you told me your coworkers take Uno very seriously,” she says with a giggle that melts Jackie’s heart.

She’s happy they haven’t scared Nicky off; Jackie truly spent days asking herself if she should invite Nicky to her birthday party, not only because she knew her coworkers, but also because they’ve been fooling around for a short time and she didn’t want to give out any wrong ideas to Nicky.

The environment is nice, even though every once in a while they go on another screaming match because someone throws a +2 or a +4, thus starting the war all over again. Gigi only watches everything go down as she snuggles against Crystal.

The evening goes by in the blink of an eye; at some point they grew tired of playing Uno, so they just decided to tell embarrassing stories about past gatherings or weird things that happened during their shifts. And even though most of them try to embarrass Jackie in front of Nicky, it only causes the French woman to grow closer with her, and Jackie can’t believe someone finds it cute that one time they went clubbing and at 3 a.m. she willingly locked herself in a stall, because on the other side of the world there was a figure skating competition and, for once, Jackie had found a place to watch it live beforehand.

When the party’s over, everyone gives Jackie a hug before heading home, and even though Dusty offers to drop them off, Crystal and Gigi reject her offer, preferring to just walk to Gigi’s apartment with their hands linked.

As Crystal and Gigi fall into the latter’s bed, Crystal wearing a worn-out oversized shirt Gigi stole from her brother years ago, Gigi thinks gifting Crystal the flower crown was probably one of her best ideas so far.

she catches herself as she nearly trips over her own two feet, but quickly recovers and turns to smile at you, her voice a high and lilting melody. from there on out, you quickly learn that chiara is warm, giving, affectionate, generous, reliable, a hopeless romantic, clumsy, needy, childish, oversensitive, and a perfectionist.

despite her immense power, chiara has difficulty controlling her magic, and her spells lack accuracy. she was specifically placed in heartslabyul, as riddle could use his own magic to counteract hers. she is very much a pacifist, and is reluctant to use attack spells out of fear of hurting anyone. she relies on defensive and healing spells during the rare times she engages someone in battle.

chiara has a terrible sense of direction. she gets lost on campus easily, and all too often has to stop and ask for help getting to her classes or getting back to her dorm.

bruises and scrapes are a common sight on chiara. she’s clumsy to a fault, and often sports new injuries, especially after flying and dancing classes. she carries bandages and plasters in her book bag so that she doesn’t have to make repeated trips to the school nurse.

she’s in charge of baking for the tea parties at heartslabyul, as appointed by riddle. she tries to be fair, and asks her dorm mates what they’re in the mood for, and tries to put all their desired treats on the table. chiara loves baking, and makes extras to bring to her friends.

chiara was formerly a member of the ‘going home club’, until riddle found out and promptly nagged her to take up a club. she was pressured into joining the horse riding club and grew to love it. she’s been saddled with the most gentle pony in the stables, a fat black and white gelding called kary. ( she’s never gone faster than a trot as of yet. )

much like everyone in the school, chiara is very much terrified of malleus. only, her fear seems to be amplified to an uncomfortable degree. in spite of this, chiara is stubbornly determined to befriend him, hoping that becoming closer and getting to know him as a person will help dispell her misgivings.
