What do you think Enver's first night in the House of Hope was like? Did he see his parent's betrayal coming? Did he miss them anyway? Did he sleep that first night at all?

I've wanted to write a fic about this for so long oml.

I don't think he suspected anything about his parents selling him tbh. He was a brilliant kid and very observant, he wouldn't have survived that long if he wasn't, and he probably did notice his parents speaking with people that weren't exactly customers, conducting something shady. But he was so young. He was so innocent. What kind of child even thinks of the possibility that their parents could give them away? Could sell them for a stupid debt? Especially after working as hard as his little hands and mind could to help around the store, steal from nobles and make money selling his little toys. He was trying to help. How was he supposed to know his parents had other plans?

And my god, the day they took him, it was so fast but no less traumatising. One second he was hiding behind the counter, watching with the curiosity of a 9 year old child as his mother spoke with someone who looked important, the next he was grabbed by the wrist and forced to follow. He screamed, of course, asking what was happening. He cried out to his mom, clawing his way out of the grip, running to grab at her dress and hide himself in the seams. He cried out to her, even when he was pulled again and thrown over the stranger's shoulder and my god his own mother didn't even care to fucking face him as he was taken away and screaming his throat raw.

And his first night there?? Jesus. Talk about traumatising. Imagine being a street urchin in the Lower City who's only heard of devils in fairy tails and suddenly you're in the Hells and in the very house of one. And all you get as an explanation is that you'll play a great role one day and then thrown into a cell you'll call home for a decade to come. Imagine how scared he was of all the new smells, how terrified he must have been hearing all the tortured souls screaming, seeing all these strange people and beasts and monsters who slap him for 'disrespecting them' when he so much as looked at them.

Yeah, I think he missed his parents that first night. He missed being around his mom when she cooked, helping his dad strap leather into shoes, choosing to ignore all the times they hit and yelled and fought, choosing to remember only the good things as he cried his little heart out. Maybe if he remembered them as good, they'd actually come to take him back. He probably ran out of tears that first night, curled up into the corner of his room, sobbing for someone to save him. He probably cried for 2 days straight afterwards. He was just a kid. A confused and helpless and lonely kid. How could they do that to a kid?

Ohh, as much as I adore Regis, I am very curious about Kaidan and Hackett in an elevator!

ah yes my scheming on how I'm making my Kaidan/Hackett/Nyx triad happen. For reference, Nyx Shepard is my old Shepard, hardened by the First Contact War and had a past relationship with Hackett, but still carries feelings for him even after getting with Kaidan before their Normandy posting.

Kaidan entered the elevator and was about to close the doors when someone called out to hold it. He quickly pressed the button to open the doors back up, and to his surprise, it was Admiral Hackett rushing to the elevator, clothed in civilian wear.  A black turtleneck, grey dress pants, and oxfords shined to perfection.  Damn. Kaidan nodded at him once the doors closed, wondering why he was on the Citadel. Here for business?  His outfit suggested otherwise. “Heading over to the Alliance outposts?” Hackett asked. "Or something else entirely?" Being with Nyx meant that Kaidan had become closer to Hackett. They're cordial, likely never going to be best friends, but he was easier to approach and talk to than he expected.  Even with Nyx's complicated feelings, still lingering to this day.  There were times when Kaidan wondered why Nyx chose him, especially after the Battle and when he took it upon himself to introduce the two over drinks. Kaidan didn't fully feel like an outsider, but he could see the history and chemistry between them and felt like Nyx wasn't the only one between them that still carried a torch.  But he and Nyx have never been better.  Nyx had opened up more and was freer with his affection, his parents seemed to like him, and well, the sex was great too.

Ooooh! Halsin Durge! Halsin Durge!!

@mallaidhsomo also asked for this one, thank you both for playing!!

While I'm eternally grateful they did actually decide to add Halsin as a romanceable character I'm still so sad that you can't romance him the whole way through as a Durge, so the idea behind this fic is to rewrite all of my problems with the writing in the Durge story line but also add Halsin as the canon romance throughout.

I don't have anything written for this, just notes. But he has this line: “I am here to be your ear, as you bear your burdens, and the arms to protect you, if you can shoulder them no more.”

And I just had this strong vision of her walking up to him one night when she can't bear it anymore and asking him "Did you mean it?"

I also have a headcanon that she carries Alfira's lute around all the time to remind herself what happens when she isn't vigilant. She spends a lot of time being afraid to go to sleep because of what happens.

I genuinely get exhausted thinking about rewriting the high points of the game for this but I really, really want to do it.

And now for a little shameless self-promotion!!

@spectre-requisitions-exchange 2024 has officially ended and the authors have been revealed! Which means I can talk about all the stuff I wrote! (I may have gone a little overboard...)

In addition to my first assignment, I picked up a pinch hit. And then I was feeling so inspired I wrote another two treats! I have been on a writing bender and it feels good! Not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of myself. 😌

So my fics this year were:

T-rated (my first non-explicit fic!! 😅) FemShep/Ashley pairing. For @biotickaidan

Set in ME3, Ash has a crisis of fate after her near-death experience and talks things through with Shepard. A romance is rekindled.

People have been SO NICE about this fic?? I have never had so many comments before, it's honestly blowing my mind. Y'all are so sweet. 🥹

E-rated Jack/Kasumi (t4t!!) for @krahka

Be gay, do crime! Set pre-ME2, Jack and Kasumi accidentally end up committing the same crime. Hijinks ensue™️ and things get a little sexy.

This was ridiculously fun to write and very challenging. I watched a ton of heist movies to prepare for this one! 😂

E-rated MShep/James Vega for @ginbiscuit

Set between ME2 and 3, while James is guarding Shep in lock up. Shep is bored and entertains himself by being an incorrigible flirt. James tries to behave. You can guess how well that goes.

I think this is actually my favourite fic I have ever written?? I really think it's quite good. I fell in love with those two idiots while they fell in love with each other. Ethan Shepard may just have some future adventures, cause goddamnit HE IS CUTE. And I'm proud of my baseball metaphor (gods I hope someone notices 😭).

Set during ME2. Tali is having a bad day. Jack is having a bad day and is making it everyone else's problem. Together they clean out the Normandy's bar and an unexpected friendship(?) develops.

I literally just finished this one a few hours ago. 😅My first gen fic! The prompt was fantastic and super inspiring. These two are so great together and I had so much fun exploring their relationship.

There were even more fantastic prompts I really wanted to write, but time is short! So I'll save them for next year. ;)

Now that I am finally done writing, I am going to delve into the rest of the fics available in the collection! There are SO MANY I'm excited to check out! So definitely look out for a recommendation list in the next few days. Or just go poke around the collection yourself!!

A wonderful story showing Ashley and Garrus’s developing relationship. I love how the similarities between them are pulled out, and this is just so lovely and romantic. I am such a fan of Ashley is written here, she is strong and she cares so much. I can't say enough about this gift!!

I absolutely loved the sense of nostalgia with this fic!! There is a real sense of comfort between Kaidan and Liara, and the details here are just beautiful.

The Crack in Everything by FerindenCadash, T, F!Shep/Ashley

Again, I love how Ashley is depicted as she's struggling with her faith following Shepard's return from the dead. The tone of this piece is just wonderful, and the dynamic between Shepard and Ashley is so perfect to read.

Reception by Vidra_on_the_Rocks, G, Human Refugee Teen & Turian Citadel Guard

This piece is written in the style of a magazine article, and it is so creative! The tone is perfect, and the family formed between these two is just so heartwarming.

Seeing a Salarian About a Ship by SaintMidnight, T, Kaidan/Coats

This fic has the perfect sense of domesticity for these two, starting a new life after the war and settling into things. It's such a hopeful fic, and there's an amazing "we're buying a home together" sense throughout the whole thing. Absolutely loved it!!

I'll probably have many more recs as I work through the amazing collection, but I am so excited to keep reading! And it was an absolute blast participating; can't wait for next year :)

Last song I listened to: Here Come the Grannies! - Bluey The Album (don't judge me, that show's music is hoppin')

Favorite content to watch: I haven't watched much of anything lately that's not for a three year old (coughcoughBlueycoughcough) but generally I enjoy scifi stuff a lot, some sitcoms like The Office, and the occational anime. I'm pretty picky about what I watch though, since I don't have much free time anymore.

Favorite games: Mass Effect series (duh), Zelda games (and many other old Nintendo games), and Stardew Valley, I guess.

Favorite color: Yellow

Favorite animals: Octopuses

Favorite food: Sushi

Sweet, spicy, or savory: Hard choice. I'd probably pick sweet, though I also couldn't live without savory.

Current obsessions: Writing my current fanfic has consumed the last two years (almost) of my life.

Last book I read: Reread the Artemis Fowl series because I love me some nostalgia, and it was a favorite of mine at one point.

Last thing I googled: "quick and easy lunch recipes" because there's not enough time in the day and my kid gets bored of sandwiches.

Relationship: Happily married🥰

Fun fact: Before my kiddo was born, I was an elementary school art teacher. But before I got my teaching degree, I worked in the game industry as an artist/designer for a hot second. Might have stayed if it hadn't been a misogynistic hellscape, but I still have a bunch of college friends who work for companies like Blizzard, Obsidian, Riot, and Bioware!
