Thanks for the tag @flyinghome-againstthewind 🥰🥰 it’s been slow going on the newest chapter of From First to Home, but I finally got some words out so yay 😁

“Mebbe we should,” Jamie cleared his throat before continuing, “pause fer now?”

Claire started to tuck one of her errant tendrils behind her ear, but Jamie finished the job for her, lingering on her cheek before letting his hand fall. “Yes, I think we should, considering…” she gestured to the lockers surrounding them.

“Can I come to your place this evening?” Jamie realized the potential weight of his words and quickly added “just to talk, mind ye!” She tried not to let a laugh escape from her as she took in how sincere he was, but she couldn’t help it.

Carlos had harbored a deep, gnawing fear that TK would be overwhelmed by his family, that their sheer size and spirit and casual Spanglish could leave him feeling on the outside looking in. He hadn’t counted on that fear being the very reason TK fit — that growing up the only child of accidental only children might make him crave exactly their kind of chaos.

Does anyone else find it hard to do this lol? My spatial "last line" in every google doc of a chapter in progress is a graveyard of text that I wrote but then removed. And my last line where I stopped is often for a good reason, not just because I ran out of time. So it's a line that is likely to go into the graveyard next time I look at it.

I don't know if this fic (chapter) will ever see the light of day, but technically this is the last thing I wrote:

Sometimes his imagination took him to more ludicrous places. Asking William what he wants. And when this coarse filthy-mouthed Brit would inevitably tell him to go suck his dick in the same tone as ‘go to hell’, by god, maybe he’d grin and do it, even though he’s never done anything like it before, just to enjoy the bewilderment on William’s face. He wanted to see William undone, dramatically, humiliatingly, by his own hand. He wanted to thank him for taking care of Ryan in the same breath as telling him he’d been waiting to see this sight. He wanted to deposit him back where he plucked him from, and in the morning have breakfast all together as a family, maybe William looking a little worse for the wear, maybe Ryan noticing but never guessing why.

The last thing I wrote of something that will see the light of day, but maybe not this particular part lol:

“He doin’ alright?” “He’s… doin’ better each day, let’s just say that.” “Looked fine in yesterday’s photos plastered all over the papers.” Butcher shrugs. “Yeah, he was damn intent on taking a good picture. They had a whole operation set up in the flat, hair and makeup, them lighting umbrellas and white backdrop and everything. But he hasn’t even been up and about much. They had to airbrush his face, he’s been so fucking pale.” “The baby get airbrushed too?” Judy asks and Butcher smiles because that's just like her. “Not while I was on watch. I’m sure they touched everything up in post though. None of 'em magazine pics ever look real.”

Eowyn looks; there indeed is a battered old guitar, perched merrily on a pile of papers behind the front desk, ready to be used for walloping.

Fergus slumped into a seat. He misjudged just how fresh from the stove the porridge was and burnt his tongue on the first bite, letting out a colorful swear in the otherwise silent kitchen. A soft tsk came from behind him and Papa’s hand touched his shoulder as he walked past.  “Mind yer tongue, lad.”  He knew Papa meant his language and not the way Fergus had burned himself. Fergus stifled a retort; the word lad chafed more than the way Papa had chided him. He would be sixteen soon. He was studying for his exams and would go to university in the fall — precisely when would he be a man with the freedom to say as he pleased if not now?

“Yes. I think you would. We…” Kissed. Touched. He dropped to his knees and sucked my prick like he was starving for it. Like it was the only thing he wanted to do. He held my hand. He trails off, unsure how to finish this story. He is not in the habit of telling his siblings about his sexual encounters, much to Epithumia’s dismay, and ‘we engaged in sexual intercourse in a train bathroom’ somehow does not encompass everything that happened. The connection he had felt. How, for a moment, he had remembered how he and Calliope walked along the riverbank in Glyki, the Acheron whispering its tidal pull at their front and the sun setting at their backs, how that had been the happiest he could remember ever being, and how the sight of Hob gazing at him with his hair all burnished and deep-bronzed beneath washed-out fluorescent lights had somehow evoked a similar happiness.

He apparently needs to say nothing. There is something in his expression that Teleute reads as well as any book, and she kicks him beneath the table. “No,” she says, and Morpheus curls his shoulder towards her, as though he might better absorb the blow of her sudden intrigue. “You didn’t.”

“I…”

“You had sex with him!”

"That's..."

"You had sex with a strange man on a train!"

"It was not...on the train," he says, casting about desperately for the right words to cut this conversation off at the head, and landing only on 'obfuscate the truth.' "The bathroom is..."

"The bathroom which was on the train?"
