I started Shivadh!verse this morning, and I am . . . almost a third of the way through Infinite Jes. I have also recommended it to at least three people. It's so fun!!! It's been a while since I enjoyed getting to know new characters this much.

Also, for some reason I got it in my head that one of the books was called "Romancing the Rambler" (I think I was mixing Royals/Ramblers with the general Romance genre?), but when I realized it *wasn't* I thought of how hilarious it would be if someone in-universe wrote a thinly veiled pastiche of Greg and Eddie's romance with that title - maybe a king falls in love with and woos the traveling bard known as "The Rambler" who's come to perform at some sort of royal celebration? I feel like Eddie would love it and read the spiciest passages out loud to a very embarrassed Greg.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I had to re-read a bit of Infinite Jes yesterday to check something for Twelve Points, and gosh I loved writing that story, and it's egotistical but I love re-reading it. I don't think that the Questions Game scene is the best prose I've ever written but it might be one of my favorite scenes ever.

At some point I do want to write a story -- either short or novel, haven't decided -- where either someone does write the thinly-veiled romance novel about the royals, or a film crew comes to Fons-Askaz to film a movie (something Gregory's been trying to woo a bit) and it turns out it's a Hallmark film based on Eddie and Gregory's unlikely romance. It's too recursive to do now, but most serieses that run for a long time eventually get rather weird, and I'm figuring around book 15 or 20 I'll hit the Weird Era and write the Hallmark Movie book.

I am admittedly feeling slightly scattered about the novels just now, mainly because everything's moving forward but all of it very slowly -- I'm in rewrites on Twelve Points, but I need to set a date to publish, and I'm working on Royals/Ramblers but I'm stuck a bit and feeling like I need to put Twelve Points to bed before I can keep going. And Simon the Chef's novel is going to take some extra brainpower to do the interesting experimental structure I want to try, so I need to get AT LEAST two of the four books I'm working on (Twelve Points, Royals/Ramblers, Chef Simon, Football Novel) off my plate first. Having four novels in various stages of completion is like, the best kind of problem to have, but it is still a problem. And I can't bump the football novel up ahead of it because Simon's book is set in the summer of 2023 and the football novel doesn't start until autumn 2023.

Also I still need to pin down Simon's love interest beyond "salty-ass chef who just moved to Fons-Askaz". If anyone has strong opinions now's the time to air them. The idea is that whoever they are, they manage to put Simon a little back-footed to start with, and then they're forced to work together -- it's a bit enemies-to-lovers but just light on the "enemies".

I am going to read your Shivad series. My original plan was to download the PDFs and then drop some money in your kofi, but I see I can also just buy e-pub version. Does one of these benefit you more financially than the other?

So, in terms of purchasing any of my books, buying an ebook direct from Lulu.com directs the most money to me -- I get more of a cut than from the paperbacks purchased at Lulu, and if you purchase anywhere other than Lulu I get a smaller revenue regardless. You can find links to all the Shivadh paperback and ebooks currently available here (the omnibus is linked at the top, the rest are linked under their summaries).

If you download the free PDF of any of my books and would like to send me money directly, anything above about $5 will be more than I would make from an individual sale (excepting the omnibus in hardback, which I get an unusually large cut from, but it's also kind of a lot to pay for a book, even a book that big).

But also like -- I earn a good wage and have a secure life, and I don't want to be a full-time working writer, so don't worry too much about me. The money from these books is currently funding the purchase of a really nice pair of boots, and some of my lodgings while in Europe this April. This isn't my rent and food money. Get whatever is in the easiest format for you to read, and if you get the PDF, it's okay that it's free. I encourage people to support writers and pay them fairly for their work, but offering my books for free allows people to pay other writers who earn their living at it.

What is much more valuable to me, and I think honestly to other writers as well, is word of mouth -- if you read the book and enjoyed it, make a post about it or lend it to a friend. Buy a copy to give as a gift, or ask your local library if you can donate a copy for their catalogue (always check first, as library policies around donation vary). Even if you have critical things to say, I've read negative reviews that have led me to buy books before because they sound like they're up my street, and as an author I have a thick enough skin that I can take it :D Feel free to reblog any sales posts I make, or to share the free PDFs around.

Patience & Self Compassion.

Yesterday was fucking hard for me.

I was holistically exhausted andI felt so guilty that I spent my day crying and doing absolutely nothing.

Life feels so hard to navigate as of late, but a friend reminded me of my own mantra: Patience and Self Compassion.

Imma be honest,I’m not completely recovered from yesterday but I feel good enough to start over today.

“When I was younger I gravitated towards a more “butch” style because it made me feel confident, comfortable and visibly queer. Since then I have gained a lot of weight due to combatting my disordered eating as well as chronic illnesses, forcing me to forge a new relationship with my body. My style choices became based around what society told me was “flattering”, which really means hiding and being ashamed of your body, leading me to feel frumpy and unattractive. The other issue was access – where could I find “plus-size” clothing that was not only stylish but also reflected my queer identity and preference for bright colours and bold patterns? The most easily accessible styles available to me were the typical “high-femme” 50’s style dresses, which got boring after a while. 🌈 Creating an Instagram account has helped me immensely, as I have not only been able to see a huge number of gorgeous people flaunting their assets but it has also helped me take control of my appearance and feel great about showing it off. Additionally, I have discovered great brands that are made for fat bodies. Whilst I haven’t fully abandoned my “high-femme” looks, vintage men’s shirts and high waisted trousers are now one of my favourite pairings, something I previously wouldn’t have dared to wear because it was “wrong” for fat women. Most importantly, I feel comfortable partaking in my favourite activity again: swimming. In a bikini no less. 🌈 It is identifying as queer that has really spearheaded my journey to body acceptance. The queer community (as opposed to mainstream gay culture) embraces and celebrates difference in such a beautiful way that makes me proud of who I am and what I look like. FAT FEMME QUEER PRIDE I searched Queer portraits online recently and majority that came up were more masculine build, fit and caucasian. What about the beauty in the fat Queers? The ftm queers? The femme queers? And what about the huge population on Queer People of Colour? There needs to be more representation even our LGBTQ2+ community that doesn't focus on the fit, masculine builds and skin tone.
