some art for my DnD Campaign and just having fun with designing creatures done to relax from stressful day c: Creating and designing creatures/fuana/flora is something I enjoy about worldbuilding! Building ecosystems is fun...and a homebrew DnD game allows me to make some cool things for players to encounter!
My take on a giant rodent! Barren rats tend to have a variety of mutations in their face due to influences in the barrens. Typically those that develop more severe mutations later in life are the ones that end up a tasty snack for larger predators. They have a hopping locomotion mostly during the day and any food left unattended they are quick to come upon and devour.

A harmless symbiotic entity that attaches itself to Mirror Slimes and Mirror Slimes alone. This creature, technically a plant, mimics the once-plentiful lotus flowers to help hide the slimes from predators.
In cases that this tactic doesn't work, the 'lily pad' is actually a highly dense plane due to extreme levels of calcium found within it. Many predators struggle to break through it, especially when it can move to intercept attacks. That being said, this movement is limited to the surface of the Mirror Slime.
How the Calcaneus gets these high levels of calcium is also in part due to the Mirror Slime. In return for protection, the Mirror Slime seeks out stray bones found in the waters of the Fall Zones and absorbs them.
After absorbing the bones, its acidic properties start to dissolve them, letting the roots of the Calcaneus absorb the slurry and harden its shell. This is the majority of its diet.
While the Calcaneus is technically not a plant by definition, it largely looks and acts like one. Due to this, it is mistakenly filed under flora as a sub species of Lotus Flower.

You're drunkenly stumbling home one night and from the duckboards through the booze haze you see the most scrumptious ass teasingly glide away deeper into the dark swamp. You follow, legs getting heavier and orientation more difficult by each step.
How many times that scenario has played out in Ditovo is not easy to calculate but it's likely not zero. The more sober locals will tell you that the slamreta, also known as "harlot of the lake", is not a malicious creature, it wants nothing to do with you in fact. This animal uses inflatable sacs on its hind legs to float on the water's surface perfectly still as it looks for fish or other small things to eat. It hunts using its sharp vision and plunges its long neck to reach prey. It's long tail is curled up to act as a stabilizing anchor. At sign of danger the slamreta can deflate the hind leg sacs to dive and swim away. It spends most of its time in water and will build a nest in-between reeds or other shore vegetation.

Dryads are a special type of mana-bodied creature. As far as we know, they have always been mana-bodied, as it appears they have no ancestry. Full grown adults are about the size of a human child, and they are extremely special in that they can manipulate their own bodies as a form of mana that we use.
They are the strongest transformation magic users, as their bodies are made from mana. This means that any material can be created with their bodies. However, denser materials require more mana to create than other materials, so dryads generally do not make denser materials. They are also extremely valuable to science, as they are able to transform into pure materials, such as helium or lithium.
The dryads live among trees, and are even more special in that they take the mana directly from the trees. In return, the dryads protect the trees, usually fighting by extending their arms and legs, hardening them, and even sticking together to make it seem like they are large, a behavior normally found in fish. In fact, this is the only land-living creature that exhibits this behavior. Now, their forests are extremely protected, and fighting monsters is no longer needed.

A good natured herbivore that subsists purely on berries and has an extremely slow metabolism that only gets slower the colder it gets. It times of low food, it sits on the walls of it’s habitat and turns into a statute, artificially cooling itself with it’s interior Ice affinity.
That being said, it doesn’t seem much food. One berry is enough to last it for a week, possibly longer if necessary. Starvation is rarely, if ever, a cause of death for this creature. The biggest cause of death is getting eaten or squished.
Thankfully, it does have a built in defense when facing predators. Due to the fact that all predators have fallen to the Golden Absolution, the Acidstream Gecko has evolved to propel a weak acid from its fins. This acid isn’t very potent, merely a mild irritant to most creatures.
The acid is has works as a weed killer, however. This effect causes the infected creatures to panic, allowing the Acidstream Gecko a chance to flee back into the Wind Tunnels. The acid also naturally goes off upon death, making this creature dangerous to eat.
Acidstream Geckos possess sharp teeth, used primarily to hold onto its food in the high wind environments of the Wind Tunnels. This bite can also chomp off a human finger.
Wind Tunnels have no light, so the Acidstream Gecko has evolved to see in the dark through sensing wind streams, with its natural sight fading. It is now only capable of seeing the golds and oranges of the Golden Absolution with its eyes.
This wind sense is extremely sensitive, being able to pick up on even the slight winds formed when a creature walks or runs. However, if moving slow enough, predators are still able to go unnoticed.
The black and purple coloring blends into the dark rocky formations of Munova, and lets it disappear completely along the Wind Tunnels.

Ongvorea
A sacred beast and apex predator of the Ditovian forests. This creature spends most of its time hanging upside down from a branch, motionless. Moss and other plants grows on its shell effectively camouflaging it. When it senses that prey is near, by detecting exhaled carbon dioxide, it extends its proboscis that functions like a highly venomous harpoon. It fires this "harpoon" (radula tooth) into the prey which is incapacitated, if not outright killed, more or less immediately. Then the creature slowly makes its way down the tree to feed. If it is a large enough meal it won't have to feed again for a long time.
To the ditovians this is no ordinary animal, its close relationship to the divine evident by the spiral on its shell. The fact it has no bones and carries its own house are also noteworthy aspects in ditovian belief. The ongvorea is also one of the few land animals that ditovians are allowed to consume, however the meat can be deadly if not properly prepared and such feasts are saved for special occasions.

Hello mysterious narrators!!! I love hearing about the wildlife of Midst. Do each of you have a particular plant or creature of the cosmos that is your favourite?
📜: Plants-wise, I am endlessly delighted by the humble Ruti Bagas, we hear about in the appendix for S2E09. Horny-tearror-inducing night lights! “Easy application”!
For critters, there’s only one pup for me:
