THE AARONS 2023 - Best TV Show
While I do highly recommend all the shows listed here, I don’t expect you to watch that much TV if you don’t want to. We’re The Aarons, not The Marvels. Here are The Aarons for Best TV Show:
Tumblr media
#10. My Adventures with Superman (Season 1) - Adult Swim
Tumblr media
As James Gunn steels himself for Superman’s big-screen revival, he would be remiss not to take notes from the character’s recent small-screen success. Alongside the still-strong Superman & Lois, the new Adult Swim show confirms the key to the character’s appeal is his good-natured boyish charm. Adventures bolsters this tenderness with pretty animation and a storytelling focus on the young hero’s budding relationships with Lois Lane & Jimmy Olsen. The series stands out with a fresh-spin on its famous rogues gallery, including tantalizing teases of an imminent alien invasion, but it’s this spot-on romantic characterization that will sweep viewers off their feet and up, up, and away.
Tumblr media
#9. Star Trek: Picard (Season 3) - Paramount+
Tumblr media
The final installment of the Star Trek spin-off boldly goes where it has never gone before: onto a ‘Best of TV’ list. It only took a complete creative overhaul and the return of the entire Next Generation crew to make it so. Functioning as a mulligan for both that cast’s previous send-off and the first two seasons, Picard’s third outing put the long-standing chemistry of its venerable characters front and center. In between all the nostalgic spaceships and evolving relationships, the show wove a madcap mystery out of surprising pieces from the franchise’s extensive lore. As unbelievable as it sounds, that adaptable energy made Picard one of the bright spots of TV last year (and there are four lights.)
Tumblr media
#8. I’m a Virgo (Season 1) - Amazon Prime
Tumblr media
Sorry to Bother You filmmaker Boots Riley made another welcome addition to his idiosyncratic output with I’m a Virgo. If the director’s involvement wasn’t enough of a signal to watch, the premise is even more intriguing: the coming-of-age of a 13-foot-tall Black teenager named Cootie in an absurdist version of Oakland policed by a fanatic billionaire superhero. An awe-inspiring mix of puppetry, prop design, and perspective is used to bring this giant protagonist to life. It’s a tall tale, but not one without real-world relevance. Riley uses the towering position afforded him to champion racial and economic equality; the strangest thing about the surreal show ends up being that Amazon of all places signed off on it.
Tumblr media
#7. Barry (Season 4) - HBO
Tumblr media
Last year’s Aarons noted that Barry was gunning for a place in television’s greatest works. With a fantastic final season, it hit its target. The culminating episodes consolidated directorial duties in the multiskilled Bill Hader while bifurcating their storyline with a dramatic eight-year time-skip. In the first half, Barry stages a dazzling prison break; the second half makes it clear that the repercussions of one’s actions are far harder to escape from. This complexity further complicated a dark comedy that has always been difficult to define. Though the series got a lot bleaker as it went on, its status as a showbiz satire returned with a vengeance during the final curtain call. Without shying away from the fallout of its violence, Barry still manages to get the last laugh.
Tumblr media
#6. The Last of Us (Season 1) - HBO
Tumblr media
The Last of Us has been one of the greatest experiences in video games for a decade now; with the first-rate television adaptation, non-gamers now have no excuse to be left behind. The post-apocalyptic road-trip, shepherded by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and game creator Neil Druckmann, upgrades the original’s already-impressive production design with the ample resources afforded by HBO. Players will recognize, yet still recoil from, the show’s unsettling set-pieces, but it’s the small deviations from the source material where everything truly clicks into place. Taking advantage of the medium to enrich its world-building and side characters ensured the story held lasting intrigue for new and old fans alike.
Tumblr media
#5. Reservation Dogs (Season 3) - FX
Tumblr media
The news that Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi’s comedy would end with its third season was met with a lot of reservation since the series remained as brilliant as always. However, the decision secured the show’s ability to go out as one of the top dogs of TV. The final season, like the heartful series as a whole, advocated for embracing one’s community. It embodied this theme by entwining the advancing arcs of its young cast with that of its eccentric elder characters. These mirrored storylines fostered an unforgettable forum for processing grief, celebrating joy, and passing along wisdom between generations. As made explicit by the series finale, Reservation Dogs’ ending should not be viewed as a time of mourning but of happiness for all the life it had.
Tumblr media
#4. Mrs. Davis (Miniseries) - Peacock
Tumblr media
One of Peacock’s best shots at becoming a competitive streaming service lies in the defiance of an algorithm. Hailing from Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof, the bizarre Mrs. Davis sends devout nun Sister Simone on a quest for the Holy Grail as a last ditch effort to rid the world of an omnipresent artificial intelligence. The miniseries is recommended if you like ambitious sci-fi, spiritual journeys, unpredictable plot-twists, magic tricks, Super Bowl commercials, or chicken wings. The sheer absurdity of its various plot threads may seem at times like a lot of horsing around, but those who hold faith in the show’s ability to bring all those listed things together for a thoughtful conclusion will be richly rewarded.
Tumblr media
#3. Succession (Season 4) - HBO
Tumblr media
The popular drama effortlessly rose through the ranks of the Aarons following a full series binge-watch this past year. Considering the nature of the premise, the final season, in which each character suddenly scrambles to enact their ultimate bid for power, was primed from the start to take over as its best. Unlike previous HBO hit Game of Thrones, it succeeded. As always, this was in no small part due to the sharp-tongued transactions between its talented ensemble. The richness of the writing lays bear the tragedy of its characters as they negotiate large acquisitions and influence Presidential elections without ever seeing the strings that are pulling on them. Luckily it’s all overseen with acerbic wit by creator Jesse Armstrong; a show with people this pathetic had no business also being this funny.
Tumblr media
#2. The Great (Season 3) - Hulu
Tumblr media
Although it’s not his Favourite, The Great is the crowning achievement of writer Tony McNamara’s career. The third season of the risqué royal dramedy was as inaccurate as ever with the history of Catherine II & Peter III of Russia and no less on point with its scintillating dialogue. Some peculiar highs and precipitate lows in the duo’s tumultuous relationship gave stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Holt equal opportunities to command viewers’ attention with their disarming performances. The progression of their marriage gave rise to some oddly emotional moments for the largely irreverent series. Those events are yet another example of the series playing fast and loose with the actual facts, but what is irrefutable is that The Great absolutely ruled.
Tumblr media
AND THE BEST TV SHOW OF 2023 IS....
#1. Poker Face (Season 1) - Peacock
Tumblr media
No lie: Poker Face was the best television of last year. One should have suspected as much from the start given the involvement of Rian Johnson; the mysteries here are every bit as sharp as Knives Out. Face has unique features for both a streaming series and detective show: its case-of-the-week episodes follow a howcatchem format instead of the more common whodunit. This formula folds each installment into an outstanding showcase for first-class actors, writers, and directors, including Russian Doll’s Natasha Lyonne fulfilling all three roles. Her charismatic character Charlie Cale anchors each story in perceptive humanity; that more than enough motive to be all-in on Poker.

‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 2 – Volume 1 Soundtrack Album Announced
Milan Records has announced a first soundtrack album for the Prime Video original series The Wheel of Time. The Volume 1 album is the first of an eventual two volumes of original music composed by Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout & Dead Reckoning, His Dark Materials, Black Widow, Black Adam, Top Gun: Maverick, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves). The conceptual album features 11 key theme tracks, each tailored to a different character in the new season. The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, September 8. Here’s the track list of the album: 1. The Desert Warriors (3:23) 2. The Hailene (3:09) 3. Darkness and Shadows (3:59) 4. Liandrin Guirale (2:23) 5. Aviendha (2:15) 6. Mat Cauthon (3:15) 7. The Dragon’s Heart (2:41) 8. Egwene al’Vere (3:02) 9. Nynaeve al’Meara (3:10) 10. Last Light (3:19) 11. Coming Home (4:24) The recordings of both albums were a global effort with recording sessions taking place at Abbey Road in London, Abriguerio Recording Studios in Spain, as well as various project studios in London, Los Angeles, Nashville and Chicago.
“This season, we really tried from the beginning to accentuate the high stakes, action and dark threats in each episode, expanding upon the themes from season one while introducing new ones as the world continues to expand,“ Balfe said. “Like in season one, vocalists recorded singing in “Old Tongue”, which follows the narrative as it develops throughout season two. We kept the same musical palette, but moved away from the traditional fantasy tropes and incorporated more elements of electronic, dreampop, folk, classical and even dark wave into each track. This was a great way to show the musical evolution of the characters and how they have come into their own.“

Henry Cavill Filmography - A Review
This is a list of everything Henry Cavill has been in, according to IMDB, and excluding things that are not released. I will be watching everything that I can and reviewing each one.
Side note: I will be referring to him as Cavill, as I have bad personal vibes with his first name, rip
Tumblr media
1) The Witcher (2019-2021) Netflix
Love love love. This is exactly the type of shit I love to watch. I’ve barely played the game, but man this show is amazing. I love him in it and god he’s so delicious. Ideal man. Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Yennifer. Idk, I preferred her character before her transformation. I would have to rewatch the first season, but she seems kinda weak now, no spark. Is that the intention? Idk I don’t remember, but the show is a 10/10 regardless.
2) Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) HBO Max
3) Enola Holmes (2020) Netflix
4) Night Hunter (2018) Amazon Prime Video
Hm. Interesting. Cavill, always a looker. So gruff and grizzly, daddy af. His ass in those pants? Fuck. Acab except for him. The movie was okay, it wasn’t bad but it was missing that oomf. I’m confused on his relationship with Rachel? Like, I got the impression that they had an affair but I don’t think it was ever mentioned, and idk, it was just weird because it was never explained why they were standoffish. Also, I will need to watch more of his stuff, but he seemed kinda stiff in this movie, idk if that’s just because he’s built like two mac trucks or what but the movie overall gets a 5/10. Cavill gets a 7/10, not convinced this was his best. However, I would let me shove his gun in my mouth and I would say thank you.
5) Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018) Paramount Plus
I’ve never actually seen any of the Mission Impossible movies but this was pretty good. Ngl, it felt very acting and not acting, like, it was obvious acting idk how to describe it. Cavill looking fine as ever, he can manhandle me any day of the year. His ass in those pants? Daddy? Sorry, Daddy? Sorry...I wish he didn’t have an American accent tho, kinda felt weird, like it was almost American but not. I thought he was great in it though, god I love him. 9/10 Cavill, 10/10 screen time, 6/10 movie
6) Justice League (2017) HBO Max
7) Sand Castle (2017) Netflix
8) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) HBO Max
Damn, this movie long as fuck. NOT looking forward to seeing Justice League bc that shit is 4 hours long...when did movies stop being 1hr 30min??? Anyway, this movie was good. Very action packed, great story, Superman...yum...Batman? Let’s be honest, Ben Affleck do be kinda hot ngl. 10/10 Cavill, 9/10 movie.
9) The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) Tubi
10) Man of Steel (2013) HBO Max
Mm, mm, mm. Never seen a Superman movie tbh, and lawd. Wish he wasn’t clean cut as Superman, how he first looked was daddy af, but ya know. Good movie, Amy Adams is one of those actors that I just don’t like for no reason, so eh. But 9/10 movie, 10/10 Cavill. Also, let us mention Zod animal crawling up the side of the building like he's a gd furry, let us also mention Zod's skin tight ass suit, when he took off the armor and was just left in that Cling Wrap 9000 and was supposed to be tougher, he just looked dumb lmfao
11) The Cold Light of Day (2012) MovieSphere (Amazon Channel)
12) Immortals (2011) Amazon Buy or Rent
13) The Tudors (2007-2010) Showtime
14) Blood Creek (2009) Tubi
15) Whatever Works (2009) Amazon Buy or Rent
16) Stardust (2007) Netflix
17) Tristan + Isolde (2006) Cinamax
18) Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005) SlingTV
19) Red Riding Hood (2005) DVD
20) Midsomer Murders (S7 E1 2003) IMDB TV (Amazon)
I didn’t actually watch the full episode, F. But he was so adorable! So cute, so young! Baby Cavill did great, I was actually really surprised by how good this little role was because it's one of his first things. But the show is really good, my mom is obsessed with it, and he did great for the short bit he was in it.
21) I Capture the Castle (2003) IMDB TV (Amazon)
22) Goodbye, Mr. Chips (2002) DVD
23) The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (S1 E2 2002) BritBox (Amazon)
24) The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) DVD
25) Vendetta (2001) Torrent

Ranking Every SPN Season Finale
Tumblr media
15) 11.23 Alpha and Omega. Dead last because not only is Chuck and Amara’s conflict defanged with a frankly silly anticlimax, but a lot of runtime is eaten up with establishing Lady Toni getting on a plane. The great weakness of an otherwise very strong season is that none of the awful compromises Sam and Dean and Cas made (especially Sam wrt Lucifer) ended up having relevance at all.
14) 9.23 Do You Believe In Miracles. Cheesy dying dialogue, Metatron hamming it up for way too long, that facepalming “the radio was on the whole! time!” twist, uncertainty as to the motivation of the whole confrontation that ends in Dean’s death. Also, this is the beginning of the end of walking back the beautiful work the rest of s9 established, with Sam saying things like “I lied.” I don’t like Dean’s death here at all, in staging, or conceptually, or thematically.
13) 12.23 All Along The Watchtower. I am basically obliged to put this in C tier because it is quite silly, but frankly, I like it more than its ranking deserves. It has the late season finale sin of cramming in an introduction to next season’s conflict in the middle of wrapping up this season’s—but it’s absolutely hilarious that they brought in multiverse portals. And for Sam and Dean, thank god the portal appeared, because otherwise they had absolutely no plan whatsoever to deal with Lucifer, and they probably would have died gruesomely. High points: Sam discovering Rowena’s death on the phone with Lucifer; the spooky introduction of Jack, the raised stakes with Mary trapped with Lucifer. Lowest point: the utter silly pointlessness of Cas’s death.
12) 10.23 Brother’s Keeper. This is the finale that I have the strongest mixed feelings about. There is a queasy lack of self-awareness in the treacly sentiment when Sam presents family photos as evidence of Dean’s goodness. The excuse of MOC!Dean as not the “real” Dean allows for the reasons behind this confrontation to be elided, even as its themes are echoed again and again. The chilling horror of Sam on his knees in front of Dean the executioner is potent and darkly enjoyable, but the instant redirection into attacking Death prevents any kind of real culmination. I can’t decide if I like this episode or loathe it, but I do think I appreciate it more now, after 14.20 and 15.17, than I did when it aired.
11) 7.23 Survival of the Fittest. We’re on to B-tier! There’s nothing significantly wrong with 7.23. Meg crashes the Impala through a glass sign, so that’s fun. Kevin’s there. There’s action, there’s some cool stakes for next season established, Sam is left alone, which I love. The main sin here is just that most of it is fairly forgettable, because the strongest part of s7 was always the psychological drama of the Winchesters’ disintegration and isolation, not the physical conflict with Leviathans.
10) 14.20 Moriah. Lots of my points about 10.23 apply here, but Moriah is a much better episode, both because there is actual conflict of opinion, and because there is a lot more built-in uncertainty about Jack’s fate than Sam’s. Jack and Dean are onboard with Jack’s murder, just as Sam and Dean were agreed on Sam’s death in 10.23, but this time Cas is staunchly against it, and Sam is on the fence, torn as to how to intervene. So it’s much better drama. But then the crux of the issue gets defanged by Chuck’s reveal. Great s15 setup, but kicks the 14.17-14.19 build down the road. Extra points for Sam shooting God.
9) 13.23 Let the Good Times Roll. I fucking love the 13.21-13.23 arc. The only thing preventing 13.23 from being A-tier are some wholly avoidable mistakes. The staging is silly; a face-palming amount of time was wasted on Maggie; the wires were a deeply regrettable choice. But even with all that, what we got was great, actually! The Sam-Jack-Lucifer church custody battle is still my favorite goddamn thing. Dean saying yes to Michael was both his only smart move and a devastating sacrifice. The character dynamics here are so JUICY. 13.21-14.01 is, IMO, one of the most fertile grounds for fic and speculation in the entire show.
8) 2.22 All Hell Breaks Loose, Part Two. Now we’re into finales that are fantastic without reservation. Off the devastation of Sam’s death comes Dean’s iconic deal. The actual confrontation in the graveyard is good too, though it’s second to the way we’re all reeling from part one. Azazel dies, Sam and Dean are bloodied and facing down new stakes. The only thing I dislike about this episode is John’s cameo.
7) 1.22 Devil’s Trap. This is the episode that ups the ante! Azazel in John, and Dean, and Sam, and the delicious family dynamic here; the stakes are so personal, and it’s a great examination what each of them is willing to pay for their quest: an electrifying taste of what’s to come. And the music, and the sheer fucking balls of just, crashing a goddamn truck into your main characters at the end of the first season. Nice.
6) 3.16 No Rest for the Wicked. Lilith is delightfully evil. We’re on tenterhooks for Sam to save Dean, we’re narratively primed to expect him to pull off something amazing, a last-minute miracle. But—nope! Sorry! Dean gets graphically ripped apart onscreen and now he’s being tortured in Hell! Shocking and bold, and a crucial turning point in the series.
5) 4.22 Lucifer Rising. Fresh off 4.21 comes an excellent culmination of season 4′s devastation. The reveals from both Ruby and the angels, Sam draining the possessed nurse, Cas at last choosing to betray Heaven, and the final arrival of Lucifer: it all just works, really well.
4) 15.20 Carry On. Part of the reason I’m ranking this so highly might be spite. But goddammit, bad wig and worse Carry On cover aside, this is a good episode, and a really, really good series finale! The deliberate anticlimax of Dean’s death, the quiet strength in Sam’s grief, the untroubled, unrushed pacing of Sam’s recovery and aging, and Dean’s drive. Supernatural said Sam Rights, and I wept like a tiny little baby.
3) 6.22 The Man Who Knew Too Much. Adventures in Sam’s mind! Cas and Crowley and Raphael and the double cross! The taste of cosmic horror! The end of season 6 and beginning of season 7, as Sam and Dean cope simultaneously with Sam’s psychological fallout and the consequences of their most powerful ally going off the rails, is fantastic. I love the literalism and the symbolism of Sam’s reintegration: this is an unapologetically Sam episode (as are the other top four, come to think of it).
2) 8.23 Sacrifice. Sam’s heartbreaking deterioration in the church and Crowley’s disintegration are an electrifying climax to the trials. Dean and Sam’s final exchange is a breathtaking combination of raw emotion and delirium and a fascinating guilt trip. It’s a visually and conceptually stunning episode: the angels fall burning against a night sky; Sam surrenders the trials and collapses, dying.
1) 5.22 Swan Song. You knew this would be number one, I knew this would be number one, we all knew this would be number one. It’s iconic for a reason. Sam and Lucifer talking through a mirror; the loss of all hope and the sky-high stakes. Stull Cemetery is the defining moment of so, so much of the rest of the series. Dean’s loyalty gives Sam the strength he needs to bury himself alive forever with his worst nightmare, and it saves the world, and it’s the highest cost either of them has ever paid.

6x05 Recap: Prom Night!
Setup
The Super Friends fail to rescue Kara, but they realize they can track Kara by showing the Prime Phantom some of her DNA and letting it lead them to her.
However, the only way to get her DNA is after a solar flare. Alex tells them that Kara had a solar flare in high school.
Nia and Brainy gear up to go back in time and get young Kara's DNA.
At the point they jump to in 2009, Kara is in senior year, Kenny Li is alive because of Crisis, and Alex is back from college on a visit. In this timeline, Kara and Kenny have been minor-league supering in Midvale.
Plot
Nia and Brainy's ship crash-lands in 2009, one day before prom night (the night of the solar flare). They are immediately found by teenage Kara, Alex, and Kenny, who agree to help fix their ship.
Kara, Nia, and Alex infiltrate Midvale College to find a rare element called dysprosium.
Brainy and Kenny infiltrate Midvale High to 3D print replacement parts for the ship.
Everything seems to be going well. But unbeknownst to the young Super Friends, an alien named Naxim Tork is plotting to kidnap Kara, Nia, and Brainy for his alien zoo.
Naxim Tork attacks Kara, Nia, and Alex in a fun car-truck-spaceship chase. The trio barely gets away, but they attract attention from a young CJ (Cat) Grant, who is in Midvale investigating "the luckiest town in America."
Nia and Brainy are captured by Naxim Tork.
Fallout
Kenny thinks he and Kara will stay in Midvale to super after they graduate, but Kara plans to attend National City University. She still hasn't told him.
Alex and Kara have an argument where Alex talks about the sacrifices she's made for Kara. There's now tension and possibly greater understanding between the two.
Nia calls her mother, who is still alive in 2009, for help interpreting her dreams. Luckily, it goes to voicemail and she doesn't leave a message, but this plotline definitely isn't resolved.
Brainy continues to have terrible coping mechanisms.
6x06 is called "Prom Again!" and is the second half of the Midvale saga.
Fun stuff, predictions, and opinions under the cut.
Fun Stuff
All the actors playing young versions of characters—Izabela Vidovic as Kara, Olivia Nikkanen as Alex, and Eliza Helm as Cat—do seriously amazing jobs of replicating their counterparts' voices and mannerisms. Bravo!
Kenny builds Kara a super cute superhero base. Too bad Kara's going to have to reject him to move to National City. :(
Brainy continues his trend of not being able to work vending machines at Midvale High.
Jesse Rath gets to show off his baseball bat spinning skills when Brainy joins the Midvale baseball team.
To cheer Brainy up, Nia sings a heartwarming rendition of "9 To 5" by Dolly Parton, her favorite song from high school.
Unlike in "Midvale," there are a number of lines in "Prom Night!" hinting at Alex's closeted status, including a jab by Kara that Alex doesn't date and a reprimand by Alex about "risking the truth of your identity."
Predictions
Back to what I predicted a few weeks ago, I think Kara's coming back for good in episode 7. She must, right?
CJ Grant isn't going to find out Kara's identity (obviously), but the Midvale story could be her big break anyway. I think that at the end of 6x06, she'll take the name Cat rather than CJ.
I don't think it'll happen, but I hope Nia calls her sister once she's back in the present and asks for her help interpreting dreams (after Maeve has apologized, of course). I do think Maeve sorely regrets what she said and would jump at the chance to reconnect with Nia.
Opinions
This episode was SO FUN! "Midvale" is one of my all-time favorite episodes of Supergirl, and "Prom Night!" definitely had similar vibes. I loved everything with young Kara and Alex, especially young Alex. The fight between Kara and Alex was really powerful, and I feel like it's going to lead to their bond strengthening even more. Also, Nia and Brainy! Brainy's character arcs are generally simple but deep, and his current one is no exception. Which maybe wouldn't work if he was Supergirl, but it's so lovely and refreshing for a supporting character. In addition, Nia's struggles with her mom were real and empathetic in a similar way to Brainy's struggles with coping with his emotions. It was really fun to get to focus on these two, and I liked the lighter tone the episode took to reflect the younger stage of life all these characters are in.
I will admit that I wasn't a fan of Naxim Tork; he just felt a little too campy for Supergirl. In related matters, the plot didn't feel as strong as usual this week. But everything else was lovely. And the SONG. My god, the SONG.
Super excited to see how it all plays out next week!
Rating: 8/10 Purple Line: "We need help. And weapons, lots of them." Final Word: Nonsense for the sake of shenanigans.

ABC News announced today “9/11 Twenty Years Later: America Remembers” — a special week of coverage across the network and streaming news channel ABC News Live to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, including four reflective primetime specials and a five-part documentary series.
On Saturday, Sept. 11, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary, a special edition of “Good Morning America Saturday” will air at 7:00 a.m. EDT and lead into ABC News’ special live coverage “9/11 Twenty Years Later: America Remembers” beginning at 8:00 a.m. EDT. Anchor David Muir will lead the special live coverage alongside “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts, with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer from ABC News headquarters in New York and ABC News’ powerhouse team of anchors and correspondents across downtown Manhattan, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, including “Nightline” co-anchors Byron Pitts and Juju Chang, “ABC News Live Prime” and “World News Tonight Weekend” anchor Linsey Davis, chief global affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz, chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl, chief White House correspondent Cecilia Vega, chief justice correspondent Pierre Thomas, congressional correspondent Rachel Scott, senior national correspondent Terry Moran and senior foreign correspondent Ian Pannell. The special coverage will reflect on all that happened since that tragic morning and feature the live ceremony taking place in lower Manhattan, including the reading of the names by family members of those killed, as well as the six pauses for moments of silence commemorating the four attacks and collapse of the two towers, and the ceremonies at the Pentagon, Shanksville and elsewhere.
ABC News Live will dedicate a full 24 hours of rotating 9/11-related programming beginning the morning of Saturday, Sept. 11.
Below are details about the primetime specials and ABC News coverage (subject to change). All programming can be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu, and throughout the day on Saturday, Sept. 11, on ABC News Live.
“This Week with George Stephanopoulos” kicks off the commemorative week on SUNDAY, Sept. 5, with an in-depth look at the fallout from America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan with insight from Raddatz and her two decades of on-the-ground reporting in Afghanistan.
Anchored by Davis, the hour-long special “9/11 Twenty Years Later: Women of Resilience,” streaming MONDAY, Sept. 6 (7:30-8:30 p.m. EDT), on ABC News Live, features the dramatic stories of four inspiring women who survived trauma and loss on 9/11 to find purpose and peace after two decades. One is the first-ever female FDNY firefighter who, along with her fellow first responders, rushed to ground zero on 9/11. Another is a heroic Army colonel at the Pentagon who narrowly escaped death and saved several lives while jumping from the burning inferno. A mother and a widow share their stories of loss and redemption, ensuring their lost loved ones will never be forgotten.
Narrated by Stephanopoulos, five-part documentary series “9/11 + 20: The Longest Shadow,” streaming on five consecutive nights beginning MONDAY, Sept. 6 (8:30-9:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC News Live, examines a nation and world completely changed by the terrifying moments when al-Qaeda operatives used U.S. jetliners to attack America on Sept. 11, 2001. Returning to the morning of Sept. 11, the series explores what America is and has become in the aftermath of one of the most traumatic events in history. From families still searching for answers, their responses and the failures that allowed terrorists to turn planes into missiles to the fear over an anticipated “second wave” of attacks and a seemingly endless war on terror, each episode navigates viewers through the past twenty years to today. The series, produced by ABC News’ Investigative Unit, will be rebroadcast on ABC News Live in full following the commemoration ceremonies on the anniversary, Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021.
For the first time, after two decades, the women whose lives changed forever on Sept. 11 tell their stories of survival, pain and redemption in a landmark two-hour documentary special, “Women of 9/11: A Special Edition of 20/20 with Robin Roberts,” hosted and executive produced by Roberts, airing WEDNESDAY, Sept. 8 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. From the heroic female first responders and workers who risked everything in dangerous jobs at ground zero to the miracle survivors, including Genelle Guzman-McMillan, the last person pulled out alive from the World Trade Center rubble after 27 hours, and the women who suffered heartbreaking loss; all of them bonded in trauma, grief, and after two decades, remarkable strength and resilience. “The Women of 9/11” is produced for ABC News by Rock’n Robin Productions in collaboration with Plimsoll Productions.
“20/20” will present two specials on Friday, Sept. 10:
Two     decades after 9/11, anchor David Muir reports on how the day’s     tragic events forever changed the world. In the one-hour special event,     Muir interviews survivors and family members who lost loved ones in the     attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Flight 93 in     Shanksville. The survivors share their harrowing personal stories of     rescue and escape, including Florence Jones, who Muir has followed for     years. Muir also spends time with families who lost loved ones, including     the family of Flight 93 passenger Tom Burnett who, along with other     passengers, helped stop an additional attack on our nation’s capital.     “20/20” will also revisit Joseph Pfeifer, the New York City Fire     Department chief, who Muir has profiled, who led the command post at the north     tower following the initial attack – and firefighters who survived the north     tower collapse. Muir’s interviews include personal and moving messages to     the American people from survivors and relatives of some of the victims on     what they’re hoping Americans will do to honor those who were lost — 20     years later. The special edition of “20/20” airs Friday, Sept.     10 (9:01-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.
Twenty     years ago, in the wake of Sept. 11, ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer     sat down with young women holding their infants — who were pregnant when     their husbands died in the attacks. The mothers she met were fresh in     grief, holding new babies who often looked like their dads. Over the     years, Sawyer and her team followed these families as they look at the     world through their unique lens, with their children’s lives in part     shaped before they were even born. Now, as those children approach their     20th birthdays, a special edition of “20/20” brings nearly 40     families together again. Has grief given them new purpose? Are some following     in their fathers’ footsteps? A master class in resilience and hope comes     from a group forever bonded by a national tragedy. With lessons to teach     us after a year of national trauma, they hand us a blueprint for survival.     The special edition of “20/20”     airs Friday, Sept. 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.
In the week leading up to Sept. 11, “World News Tonight with David Muir” will feature anchor David Muir’s interviews with the survivors and heroes he’s been following for more than a decade. They open up to Muir about the tragic day, the loved ones they lost, the people they met during the horror and their messages to their fellow Americans on why it’s so important to reflect and remember 20 years later. On Friday, Sept. 10, Muir will anchor “World News Tonight” from ground zero.
“GMA3: What You Need to Know” will feature a wide range of stories and topics, including a panel discussion on Islamophobia and two strangers who met trying to escape the towers and became friends for life. The program will feature interviews with retired FDNY Chief Joe Pfeifer, the first firefighter on the scene at the World Trade Center on 9/11, legacy female firefighter Kelly Fullam, whose father was also a FDNY firefighter who died from 9/11-related illness, and the family of fallen FDNY firefighter Lt. Kevin Dowdell. Ending the week, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes will anchor from ground zero on Sept. 10 with John Feal, president and chairman of the FealGood Foundation, 15 active and retired firefighters who rode for 40 days across the country with the goal of raising money in honor of the anniversary, and former FDNY chaplain Rev. Chris Keenan will join for “Faith Friday” to discuss his experience and deliver a word of faith in honor of the anniversary.
On FRIDAY, Sept. 10, “The View” revisits the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, as the co-hosts prepared for the live broadcast. They will reflect on the tragic events of the day, including what it was like at the New York City studio as the news unfolded and the important conversations that took place at the table once they returned following the terrorist attack.
In addition to the five-part docuseries narrated by Stephanopoulos, ABC News Live will provide coverage throughout each day in the week leading up to the anniversary. During the day, ABC News Live will carry live streams of 9/11 related events and feature new interviews and roundtable discussions on topics such as how New York City recovered from 9/11 and how that has helped the city recover from a pandemic, and how first responders have dealt with health issues for years. On FRIDAY, Sept. 10 (3:00-3:30 p.m. EDT), “The Breakdown” will be anchored by Diane Macedo live from lower Manhattan.
“ABC News Live Prime” (7:00-8:30 p.m. EDT) will feature a conversation and tell the story of Heather Penney — a female F-16 fighter pilot who was supposed to go on a kamikaze mission and shoot down Flight 93 but didn’t get there in time — and examine the current iteration of the Taliban and look at why the Taliban is still a threat 20 years after 9/11. Plus, ABC News reporters who covered the tragedy 20 years ago will reflect on their experiences at the time of the attacks, including former ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton who was traveling with former President George W. Bush that day. “ABC News Live Prime” will also feature a report by senior Washington reporter Devin Dwyer on Islamophobia and how Muslims feel 20 years later. On the eve of the anniversary, “ABC News Live Prime” will be anchored by Davis from near the site of the attacks on the twin towers and take a look at the children of 9/11 firefighters who became firefighters themselves.
ABC News Digital will have wide-ranging coverage on ABCNews.com and its apps leading up to the anniversary, including an overview of the 20 years since 9/11, how Islamophobia has evolved in the U.S. since 9/11, what progress has been made with the Victims Compensation Fund and 9/11 victims, coverage of the memorial events held around the country on the day of the anniversary and more. Additionally, two 9/11 related episodes of digital video series VOICES will be released, looking at the 20th anniversary and the “War on Terror.” There will also be a special 9/11-focused episode of “On Location” and video highlights on the day of the anniversary.
ABC News Radio will provide an hour-long special anchored by correspondent Aaron Katersky, which will be available mid-week for affiliates to air on-demand. The special will also be available later as an episode of the “ABC News Radio Specials” podcast, available on major listening platforms. On Saturday, Sept. 11, ABC News Radio will provide live-anchored coverage of the annual commemoration ceremony.
ABC News’ flagship daily podcast “Start Here,” hosted by Brad Mielke, will feature special coverage in the days leading up to the anniversary.
ABC NewsOne, the affiliate news service of ABC News, will be providing a series of reports in the week leading up to the anniversary, looking at how 9/11 changed America. NewsOne will also be providing live coverage from lower Manhattan with multiplatform reporters Ike Ejiochi and Reena Roy on the day before and the day of the anniversary. NewsOne provides news content and services for more than 200 ABC affiliates and international news partners.

Season 4, Episode 7
Epiphanies
So now one of the massive arcs is complete, and we're only 7 episodes into this season. There's some fallout, especially re: Centauri Prime (which also sets up the arc for good ol' Crusade).
At no point in this previous arc did any of the other races happen to bring up the fact that Earth effectively took NO part in the Shadow War (there was also no discussion of attempting to save Earth from the Vorlons out to destroy any world with Shadow influence...). The only humans involved were those that have broken away. Earth is the ONLY significant government that didn't participate in the Shadow War. Obviously the humans of B5 and those in the Rangers are there and doing a hell of a lot, but that's it. Pretty sure this isn't mentioned because it would probably serve as too much of a reminder of what is going to happen in this season. Packs more of a punch if you don't see this coming, I suppose.
Tumblr media
Bless you, Regent. I love this guy. He's adorable.
And now confirmation that Garibaldi has been brainwashed.
Londo and Zack. And Bester and Zack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is essentially G’Kar’s whole character arc. He is closer than ever to being his best self, and that’s awesome.
Tumblr media
The Book of G’Kar is just The Secret translated into Narn...
Lyta and Zack. He's getting a lot of scenes this episode. And we start to see Lyta chafe under the fact that she's basically being treated as a telepathic workhorse.
Tumblr media
Heart eyes again. Love it.
Bester knows things about Lyta. Do we ever find out what those things are? I can't remember, so if we do find out, it can't be that huge a revelation.
This quiet moment here with Bester nicely shows where his true allegiance lies.
Sheridan threatening to turn Lyta over to the Psi Corps is a Mistake. I'm sure there are examples of him taking hard lines like this in previous seasons, but it really feels like he's changed now, and has gotten much harder and unforgiving. More brutal. This is Sheridan’s character arc.

THE AARONS 2020 - Best TV Show
It was prime time for TV in 2020, with many more free hours to fill. I managed to get through a lot of my backlog in fact, finally getting around to watching shows like The Strain. It’s a show about a deadly disease that tears society apart because a lot of arrogant people think they are exempt from quarantining. The disease turns people into vampires, so it’s technically escapism. Here are the Aarons for Best TV Show:
Tumblr media
#10. The Plot Against America (Miniseries) - HBO
Tumblr media
It’s not TV, it’s not HBO, it’s real life. The Wire-creator David Simon’s penchant for illustrating the human fallout of institutional failures made him a perfect collaborator for HBO’s Plot Against America, an adaptation of Phillip Roth’s alternate-history novel. Following a Jewish family in New Jersey navigating the increasingly-fascist America of a hypothetical Charles Lindbergh administration, the show is a terrifying warning of what happens when hatred and conspiracy theories are allowed to accumulate political force. Notably, while the book ends with history back on the right track, the closing moments here are left ambiguous. The show was a limited series, but in many ways, The Plot Against America is ongoing.
Tumblr media
#9. Mrs. America (Miniseries) - FX
Tumblr media
Its interests are married to The Plot Against America, but Mrs. America traces the country’s rising extremism from a more historically accurate perspective. The miniseries centers on political activists in the 1970s on opposing sides of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment, but its dialogue isn’t a strict dichotomy. The episodic format is expertly utilized to build out intersectional ideas from the likes of Rose Byrne’s Gloria Steinem, Uzo Aduba’s Shirley Crisholm, and Margo Martindale’s Bella Abzug, detailing the difficulties in building a diverse coalition, and the dangers of a single-minded one. Drawing parallels to current debates, its compelling centerpiece is how conservative Phylis Shafley (Cate Blanchett) successfully defeats the Amendment; voting against your own self-interests, Mrs. America says, is as American as apple pie.
Tumblr media
#8. The Outsider (Miniseries) - HBO
Tumblr media
Societal collapse comes from within in the two shows mentioned above, but the threat in HBO’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 2018 novel is decidedly an “other.” King clearly had his mind on modern manipulations of truth when crafting the ingenious premise: a man is arrested for the murder of two young boys due to irrefutable DNA evidence, only to provide an air-tight alibi for the crime. To match King’s procedural prose, HBO brought on The Night Of’s David Price, who layers the original work with meticulous mysteries. The Outsider has all the pulpy jolts expected of the author, but the show’s true horror lies in its overbearing grief, best brought to life by Ben Mendelsohn’s Detective Anderson. To say more would be to spoil its secrets; you’ll want to be on the inside.
Tumblr media
#7. Perry Mason (Season 1) - HBO
Tumblr media
Just like the famous fictional attorney, HBO can’t seem to lose, with Perry Mason marking its third entry on this list. The reimagining of the long running court drama actually takes place before the character’s illustrious law career; here he’s a down-on-his-luck private eye caught up in a scandalous child kidnapping case. The result’s a gangbusters production of old-fashioned moody noir: political corruption, femme fatales, and a more morally-complicated Mason, as played by The Americans’ Matthew Rhys. The lavish period details and character-actor cast, including Shea Whigham, John Lithgow, and Tatiana Maslany, will help draw viewers in, but, I’ll confess, I was already hooked by the season’s chilling opening moments.
Tumblr media
#6. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (Season 1) - NBC
Tumblr media
Dour seasons have dominated this list thus far, but Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist sings a different tune. It’s a lovably oddball premise: an accident during an MRI causes a young woman, played by Jane Levy, to hear other people’s thoughts in the form of popular music. It’s all karaoke, but, emphasized by the presence of Skylar Astin, a worthy inheritor to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s musical-comedy crown. The tracklist, workplace antics, and love-triangle drama all exist in a comfortingly familiar network TV realm, but the show takes additional steps for inclusion with stories highlighting Zoey’s genderfluid neighbor (Alex Newell) and an American Sign Language performance of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song.” During a year in need of shuffling off stress, there was no better time to queue up Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Tumblr media
#5. What We Do in The Shadows (Season 2) - FX
Tumblr media
FX’s expansion of the mockumentary feature film of the same name lit up some of the darker corners of its universe in the show’s second season, transforming mundane-seeming material into something completely, uniquely batty. Each creature of Shadows took their turn in the spotlight this season, from a middle-management promotion gifting energy-vampire Colin Robinson unlimited supernatural power, to undead Nadja befriending a doll possessed by her own ghost, to Matt Berry’s Lazlo forging a small-town persona as a bartender/volleyball coach to escape a vengeful Mark Hamill. As always, it was the sympathetic Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a Van Helsing descendent desperate to become a vampire, who gave the show its emotional stakes, and the vampires within a different kind altogether.
Tumblr media
#4. Stargirl (Season 1) - DC Universe
Tumblr media
Shadows was lit, but few things burned brighter this year than Stargirl (perhaps too brightly for the flamed-out DC Universe). The superhero drama is one of several that will outlive its original streaming service - fitting, given its obsession with legacy. Based on a character created by DC Comics stalwart Geoff Johns after the tragic loss of his sister, the show finds a young girl taking on the mantle of a fallen hero after moving to a town run in secret by supervillains. With sprightly fight choreography and an unabashed embrace of its comic book lore, Stargirl outshines the overabundance of small-screen superheroes out there. Its highlight is the bright performance of lead Brec Bassinger; put simply, she’s a star, girl.
Tumblr media
#3. BoJack Horseman (Season 6b) - Netflix
Tumblr media
Throughout its run, BoJack Horseman garnered acclaim for routinely delivering unexpected pathos, and the final season kept it on that track until the end. ...Get it, because horses run on tracks? The unexpected porter of television’s legacy of antiheroes ended in much the same vein as its sister shows - with consequences finally catching up with its protagonist. No amount of fanciful animal puns could soften that painful catharsis, as the show finally trampled its tricky web of abuse through bittersweet means. The series closed out with an especially thoughtful scene, the kind viewers who looked past the wonky pilot years ago were regularly blessed with; to the very end, BoJack, you were a gift, horse.
Tumblr media
#2. Better Call Saul (Season 5) - AMC
Tumblr media
As good as Bad ever was and better than ever before, the fifth season of AMC’s spin-off completely upended the world of its eponymous lawyer while bringing Vince Gilligan’s universe one step away from full-circle. Saul Goodman found himself in way over his head, and viewers found themselves way on the edge of their seats, as his first foray into “criminal” lawyering swiftly dovetailed with an escalating drug war. Despite the emotional distress of watching fan-favorite character Kim Wexler placed in perilous situations, there are no objections to be had with the drama’s continued masterful storytelling. Ramping up the slow-burn storytelling, season five saw Kim and Saul’s relationship develop in rich and unexpected ways, while still keeping their final fates unresolved. Fans are thus waiting with bated breath for the show’s final call next year.
Tumblr media
#1. The Great (Season 1) - Hulu
Tumblr media
Who could be the best but The Great? There was a minor television controversy this year over Netflix marketing The Crown as a historical drama despite its fictional interpretation of events; The Great has no such pretentions. An asterix adorns every title card of the show, letting viewers know that its take on Catherine the Great’s coup against Emperor Peter III of Russia is only “an occasionally true story.” The show indeed is not great for education, but it’s the most entertaining television of the year, locking stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult in a battle of wits and a fight for the country’s soul under the watch of The Favourite co-writer Tony McNamara. The uproarious comedy slyly collates leadership based in cruelty with leadership based in goodwill in the background of its quite bawdy escapades, a subtle bit of relevant political maneuvering that lets it successfully claim the crown this year.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Episode Release Guide
https://ift.tt/3tW1MoN
Warning: the Handmaid’s tale season 4 episode synopses below contain plot spoilers
The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t the kind of TV show that suits a binge-watch. Its heart-heavy dystopian story about a brutal theocracy that enslaves and rapes fertile women benefits from a little fresh air between episodes. On-screen torture and suffering are best delivered in small doses.
It’s good news then, that after its first three episodes are released on Hulu in one batch on Wednesday April 28th, the remaining seven episodes of season four will be released weekly each Wednesday until June 16th, giving US viewers all time to digest.
For UK viewers, season four is confirmed to be airing on Channel 4 as usual, but the broadcaster has yet to confirm a start date. As soon as one is announced, we’ll pass it on. The imported show traditionally airs weekly on the terrestrial channel. Seasons one to three are not on Netflix in the United Kingdom, but are currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video UK.
Below is a complete list of season four episode titles and US release dates, along with the official Hulu synopsis and the writer and director information for each episode. It’s worth noting that actor-producer Elisabeth Moss has added a new hyphenate for season four, making her directorial debut with a trio of the new instalments – episodes three, eight and nine. And if you need a refresher on what happened in season three, here’s our story-so-far recap.
