I unironically believe that my FAVORITE thing about rats smp is how blatantly obvious it is that the narrative was supposed to be “oh all these lovely rats helped this lovely family in their times of need! truly a friendship against all odds!!”

But the rats just won’t stop trying to murder and steal and lie and cheat.

This is the story of Antanas Gedminas. A simple man from Mosedis, Lithuania

He was forcefully deported, like many other people, by the russians in 1947. He was 40 years old, sent to Gulag in Karagand, Kazakhstan without any documents or personal items, barely dressed.

While in exile, he decided to walk back home, to Lithuania. The walking journey of 4000 kilometers with no maps and no way to ask for help. Soviets used to shoot those who tried to escape.

Having found a crumpled up and binned document, he pretended to be deaf and mute, and walked from station to station, using rail tracks as a way to navigate. He would walk at nights and sleep on days. More than once he was severely beat up. Sometimes he would take the train, hidding behind the wagon tool box.

When he reached Ukraine, he had to cross the Dnipro river. He did it by hugging a floating tree trunk. Because he was very exhausted, he went house to house begging for food and help. In one of such houses he found an executed Ukrainian family.

After three months of journey he finally reached Lithuania, his native Samogitia. When he came home his family couldn't recognize him - he weigh barely 50 kilos.

He later started a family, having 4 sons. Today he would've been 116 years old.

They're going to be an important character in an OC story I'm planning to develop! I'm basically gonna implant the story I had for LDaD into this character and his own backstory. And I've got a lot planned for this fella... By the way, their name is Guillaz!

Just a week into the US election year of 2024, and I'm already seeing some Takes™ on my dash.

I know you hate your options, guys, but third party will not win. They simply won't, not in 2024, no matter how much you wish they would. Building that kind of voting power takes time, and with the current voting-suppression systems and gerrymandering in place, you're just not there yet.

And you know the people who are tempted to try it anyway are the people on the left and some lost-looking centrists. And you know that taking those votes away from the Democrats while the people on the right turn up to vote en-mass as they always do means that Trump will win.

I cannot overstate how much you can't let that happen. You can't.

You can feel betrayed and be frustrated with the Biden government all you like, but you can't hand that position of power back to Trump and the conservatives. People will suffer. People will die. Within your own country and globally.

If you seriously think Trump in power will mean less genocide and fascism in the world, I'm sorry, but you're straight up delusional.

Please think really hard about what narratives you're buying into, supporting and spreading this year. Not immune to propaganda etc. People who try to cloud your judgment by appealing to your anger and sense of helplessness, telling you not to vote, or vote third party may genuinely believe what say - or they're manipulating you into throwing your vote away. Either way, the end result is the same.

And frankly - the choice is yours, but if you intend to chase the third party pipedream right now and thereby allowing a fascist government to take over and dictate global politics for the next four years at least (provided their next insurrection isn't successful, leaving them in power indefinitely...)

I’ve seen people on here say that, not only can people Not Change, but that people who try to change are a) lying b) manipulative and c) undeserving of the chance to change. besties…becoming a better person isn’t about whether or not you deserve to become a better person, it’s not even about becoming 100% perfect, it’s about doing damage control after you realize you fucked up. like yeah people you’ve hurt aren’t obligated to like you/forgive you/interact with you, but tumblrites seem to think that anyone who’s ever made a serious mistake should be exiled from society and/or guillotined. we’ve gone from reasonable and correct takes about how people change (ex. “it’s not my responsibility to teach you”— yes! of course it shouldn’t be up to underprivileged random people on the internet to educate the uninformed!) to utterly deranged ones (ex. “nobody with privilege will ever realize that they’re doing harm and the ones who claim to be in the process of learning are just virtue signaling and should be punished for it”— a take I’ve seen applied to men learning about feminism, cishets becoming allies, white people learning about antiracism, relatives of shooters who go on to advocate for gun control, etc)

you do realize that people can genuinely change for the better, right? I’ve seen my parents un-transphobia themselves firsthand, going from thinking that my sibling came out “for attention” to wholeheartedly believing in trans rights. my grandma’s father was every kind of asshole imaginable and she grew up indoctrinated, but as an adult she broke away from him and has spent the rest of her life working on unlearning stuff. my cousin grew up in the rural south and parroted his rural southern dad’s opinions until he was thirteen and started actually thinking for himself, at which point he did a total 180 and is now studying history with a focus on the evolution of the rights of the underprivileged

so when I see people on here say that people shouldn’t change because they don’t deserve to change it rubs me the wrong way. cause at that point it sounds like you’d rather have that person stay harmful so you can stay mad at them, instead of letting them change and gaining yourself an ally. again, you don’t need to interact with them, but. at this point it kind of feels like you care more about hating The Oppressors than about protecting The Oppressed.
