One of the things that pisses me off so much about AFTG relationships is whatever the fuck Nora decided to do with Kevin and Thea. For one, let’s start with the big elephant in the room shall we: Kevin was fourteen and Thea was eighteen when they met each other. Kevin was literally a child and Thea was not. When they slept together for the first time Kevin is - presumably - eighteen (Nora only said it was his first year at EAU) and Thea was twenty two/three and it was in front of everyone. We know the Raven’s mindset is fucked up at best but seriously… in front of the entire team? They never talked about themselves in a normal-relationship way when they were at Evermore. According to Nora, “Thea’s last words to Kevin–until she showed up at Fox Tower in TKM–were to get some more practice in with the girls so he’d be ready for her when he graduated.” Be for real… this isn’t normal. But let’s pretend we can put all of this under the “they are Ravens and Ravens knows no boundaries and never had any normal human interaction in their lives” belt.

Let’s do a time skip. Riko breaks Kevin’s hand and Kevin leaves EAU. He spends a year at PSU not playing and not once he reached Thea. Understandable because he was still afraid. Then he starts playing again, still doesn’t reach her. She found out about all of this - broken hand, leaving the Ravens, playing again - through the media. Then, she shows up at PSU out of nowhere and almost doesn’t give a chance for Kevin to explain himself. Except Kevin explain - at best he can, considering he couldn’t put her in danger at the moment - but still she saw how Jean was and she knew what Riko was capable off, right? WRONG. Because Nora goes on to say the worst thing possible about their future:

Be fucking for real. You telling me you saw your teammate an inch from death, saw that the supposed love of your life had his career almost destroyed - and Thea and Kevin got married, so she is aware of the amount of trauma Kevin carry from being raised with Riko at EAU - and still the hate edges off because “after all, Kevin’s playing again, so no harm no foul, right?” ???? Are we seeing this? As a fandom, are we collectively seeing this?

“But Kevin needs someone who can keep up with him and with his obsession with Exy”. Ok, but I’m pretty sure there are other women besides Thea playing Exy that would be able to keep up with Kevin and still have an ounce of sensitivity in their bodies.

Now my only logical explanation to this, which is where I always go back to is that Thea and Kevin weren’t supposed to happen if Nora had planned AFTG like a normal writer should. We know she wrote a thousand versions of AFTG - even versions where Kevin dies or where Kevin/Andrew/Neil were together - before publishing as a book and we know she had so many versions inside her head she made the books a fucking mess but there is no way someone didn’t warned her about this absolutely fuckery of a relationship. I can’t believe we as a fandom bought into this and still reinforce it as a hc.

Also, do we really think Thea helped Kevin navigate his trauma after TKM? During their lives? This is so incredibly unfair because Kevin deserved someone who could help him heal himself and understand life outside of Exy but no, Nora really had to give us/him this mess.

Jeremy shows up to practice fifteen minutes early and finds Jean in the team lounge. "This is for you," he says.

Jean expects those words, like all the other times he's heard them, to be accompanied with a bright smile and flowers, or chocolate, or a plate of whipped cream to the face—don't worry, revenge was had—but instead finds himself staring at...a note.

White flash card, folded twice, one corner bent back down halfway for no good reason at all, and the memories hit Jean like a racquetto the head. How many of those noted had he been given? Shoved into hands without stopping to look and passed on just as quickly.

Jean is a man of instincts. Reflexes. Ingrained responses so deep the brain need not bother, for the body already knows.

And this note is a cue his body knows too well. One, take the note before anyone can think to come near it. Two, shove it into his pocket before anyone can see. Three, storm down the hall to tell Kevin that he is NOT waiting for 45 minutes again while he agonizes over a two fucking sentence response, and—

The door opens again, San Diego sunlight blinding him as two more teammates come in, and Jean remembers Kevin isn't here. Which means. Which means.

He unfolds the paper too quickly—it would've torn if it had been thinner, but the thick flash card just gets stuck. Typical. Holy shit, typical.

Thea's handwriting is the same precise script as ever (except the lowercase g's for some reason). The letters are smaller than the guidelines, like she didn't know how much space she needed to write everything she wanted to say.

Hi Jean. Kevin says you're doing well. Or rather, Kevin says that Jeremy says. Not that I think Jeremy would lie, but there's only one messenger I've every really trusted, and that's you. I'll be in SD sometime next week. Give me a call.

A phone number is scrawled beneath. No signature. Overall, it takes just over half the card; either she miscalculated or she had more to say but instead chose self censure. Both options are unlike her.

The myriad pieces of Jean's mind read the note, over and over, all slightly out of synch from one another so rather than comprehension he only gets nose.

"Jean?" Jeremy's had on his shoulder, concerned. Jeans hand jerks upwards, sharply, and then he brings it back down as he turns to face Jeremy, pretending he hadn't been this close to stuffing the note in his mouth. "You good, man?"

Good question. Great, even. Jean has a better one. "Who gave you the note?"

Jeremy frowns even harder. It doesn't suit him, brow furrowed like that when he isn't trying to run through a backliner like they're made of tissue paper. "Coach Rhemann came back from Texas this morning, told me Muldani gave it to him. With very specific instructions not to open it. I met Coach, he gave it to me."

Of course. Thea doesn't ask for things; it's the first piece of advice she ever gave him. If you want, and you can, then do it. Forget who might stand in your way; they can only try, same as you.

"Jean?" Jeremy asks again. "What did the note say?"

Thea wanted to pass a message to Jean without Jeremy in the way. Well, maybe fuck what Thea wants. Jean hands him the note. Jeremy skims it, raises a brow. "What does she mean, that she only trusts you?"

His concern, born of meeting Jean back at Abby Winfield's house and fed by the steady trickle of Jean's stories of the Nest, seems momentarily absurd. "The Ravens weren't allowed to date," Jean says simply, as he had many times before. When Jeremy seems to catch on, he nods at the note. "I was their favorite messenger. Well. I was the only one who wouldn't sell them out."

"Why didn't you?"

Because Kevin was his friend. Because Thea deserved better than anything the Nest could ope to give her, much less dare to deny. Because every breath Jean took in protest to that tar pit came filled his lungs just a little bit deeper.

"Because then I got to read Kevin's love letters."

Jeremy's eyes go wide. "Shakespeare?"

"Poe."

Some teammates turn at the sound of their captain's laughter. More turn when they hear him hit the floor. Jean gives them all a plain look.

He takes the note back from Jeremy's twitching fingers—it's best to let him wear himself out on such occasions—and stares at the phone number.

Thea does not ask, she acts. If Thea wants to come down here and see him, then nothing stands in her way.

Except Jean. If he doesn't call, if he doesn't show, he's sure she won't push. She will never call or text or write a note to him again and all he has to do is nothing.

The thought rumbles through the dark halls of his mind that still belong to the Nest, like a freight train pushing forward too much air, pushing, pushing until the wall ahead falls apart from the pressure and—

Sunlight. The lounge door is open again. More teammates, almost late, confused by their laughing captain.

Jean takes out his cell.

I'm still thinking about what Nora wrote in the recent Thea Muldani post, and it has me reeling in the best way possible.

I feel like it could have been an important moment for Thea - when Jean started following her around after joining the Ravens bcs. She was a black woman in that mess of a place and it was *hard* and as Nora said, nobody gave a flipping fuck about her really. No matter the effort she put in.

She fought hard for every little slip of recognition and approval. But still, no matter how good, she was nothing to the others on the team, even people she must've been in some way intimate with, even if in a shallow way. Then, though, everyone knows Kevin and Riko, and how above everyone else on the team they are. The standing is written plainly on their cheeks, so that no one forgets it, and the number on her jersey is far, far from theirs.

But then, there's the third guy. None of them really knew much about Jean before he joined them in his freshman year, did they? Maybe im forgetting something, but to my knowledge from all we know, Jean was not a celebrity kid, but a dirty secret for the Moriyamas. So, there's this other guy, who has a number 3 appointed to him by the Master himself, and from all possible people to follow, he is there right at her heels whenever he can. He did it bcs she was that good, and he wanted to get pointers to assimilate with the teams work smoothly enough to not get more punishment than he already was receiving but, Thea doesn't really know this does she? Not about the punishment and most likely not about the fact they do think she's good enough to be noticed by the perfect court either. It's not riko who's noticing, but it's still something, isn't it? So yeah, I think they must be maybe not friends exactly, but in some weird way, it must be some kind of landmark for them both. Maybe that will turn into a kind of friendship years later in a healthier setting?

But again, imagine the mess of that: Jean is always with Riko and Kevin, except when he's following the girl everyone around is trying to put "in her place". And he matters in some way, he must, because standing is everything in the nest, and he's right after the sons of exy.

I dont think it makes Thea "stand a bit taller" or feel stronger or whatever, bcs she knows she is strong and talented and is worth being here. Or at least she tries to remember that her belief in herself is what got her here. Her faith must come from within. But everyone still needs the recognition of all that hard work. To not burn out. At least every once in a while, especially in a place so devoid of it as the Nest. And maybe Jean was the person to first show that recognition to her, without even knowing it?

This whole Thea thing made me reflect about Kevin and Neil's relationship in canon and why we don't really hear about her before Renee tells Neil that Kevin has a gf.

All Neil know (and therefore all we know) about Kevin's past is said by others. The media, other Foxes, Wymack, Kathy, etc. They didn't really had a heart to heart conversation about Kevin's life at the Nest, maybe some things exy related and that's it (I'm gonna come back to this in a sec).

And I think that's okay.

Neil himself doesn't talk with others (except Andrew and a little to Wymack) about his past either before Baltimore forced him to. And I feel like it was the same with Kevin in the way he hwd to told his story once when he joined the Foxes to make them trust him and also to protect them. Neil obviously wasn't in that conversation.

Kevin has trauma too and his own history with mafia and the Moriyamas that he doesn't wanna/need to tell everyone or relieve. In that past is Thea too. He probably told the team about her in that conversation because he's not close to Renee to tell just her and nobody else says anything when Thea arrives, they know who she is.

Also. Hope you remember I said I was comming around to Kevin and Neil basically talking just exy related stuff, well, I could do another very long post abou what I think of Kevin's relationship with exy, but for now I'm just saying he used it to avoid every other thing happening in the world and to communicate through it. Just like Neil does, like Andrew tells him in the awful talk they had. This two boys say a lot of things while talking "just about the game", their silence speaks volumes.

to address the Thea stuff. the reasons ppl don't like her kinda matched to what I said at the end about ppl being more willing to forgive the white characters for things:

1. the age gap. it's only 4 years, and any relationship only begins after kevin is 18. and he was the one who had a crush on her when he was younger, not the other way around. People tend to spread lies about this, things that weren't said in the ec such as saying they're relationship started when he was 14 and she was 18, which I mentioned in my original anon.

2. the 'agression'. I don't think she's aggressive. she was angry yeah, which she had every right to be after kevin ghosted her. he was obviously going through a lot, but of course given he didn't communicate this, she didn't know. she can only work off what she knows. again I just see this as the fandom being very uncharitable to her. kevin chokes neil when he's angry so I really don't think she's the aggressive one in this relationship. and if she is, she's not alone.

3. devotion to the ravens. again, so is kevin. People forgive him for this because he's obviously been brainwashed by them. but so has she. again, just seems like people forgiving other characters for things they wouldn't forgive her for.

4. randomness of relationship with kevin. I don't think it's random? I'm not a fan of their relationship, but people love to ship kevin/Jean primarily cause they were ravens together. kevin and Thea were ravens together, it makes sense they'd grow close. they're both also very dedicated to exy, a common reason people ship neil/kevin. so idk? to everyone's taste ofc, but it still isn't a valid reason for her to get the hate she gets.

idk necessarily about people liking her more if she was a fox. probably? she's very similar to kevin, and people like him. and I can imagine people not liking him if he stayed a Raven and we saw him through a fox perspective. so you're probably right.

on her only having a scene or two and not being very likeable in them. I guess again, it asks the question of why she's not likeable in these scenes? I think people don't want to view things from her perspective, and there can be a lot of reasons for that ofc.

Jean has more scenes than her, but he's not 'likeable' in many of them. He's rude, just like Thea was. He holds Neil down when he's getting tortured. He arguably should be more disliked, but he's not. I think people are more willing to offer him understanding because they're more willing to see things from his perspective. He acts this way because he's a traumatised cult member, and that's exactly why Thea acts the way she does.

It's hard to describe the hate people have for her if you haven't seen it much, but more often than not it goes far beyond 'this character just doesn't show up much so idrc'. People tend to hate her with a passion similar to the hate they view Riko with. Again, people call her abusive and a pedophile semi-reguarly. It goes beyond her just being a little unlikeable.

There was a motivation for a decent number of fans to spread these lies about her character, and I'm curious what that motivation was I suppose? cause I certainly don't do that for characters I just find unlikeable. Or characters that didn't have many scenes. Even if most fans aren't actively racist, they've bought into and fueled lies that were likely spread with racist motivation.

i honestly don't really disagree with you on anything (like the age gap wasn't something I personally ever paid attention to, I was saying that's what other people have a problem with. and honestly I do think that's fair for them, it just never stuck out to me) except for the fourth point bc I will maintain that their relationship is random. not random in a 'these two people are incompatible' way but in a 'the first time we hear Kevin even has a girlfriend is like 2/3 into the last book of the series and the chemistry (to me at least) seemed incredibly lacking but we're supposed to assume they're in love'

but I think you just might be overestimating how much people think about her. again: she's a very very minor character and I don't think people will necessarily go out of their way to see things through her perspective because of that. honestly I feel like what you said about Jean explains it p well: he does worse things than Thea but, even though he's also minor, we see way more of him than Thea we see him vulnerable and at his worst and there's more there that shapes him as a complex person. I genuinely think that if she had even as much screen time as Jean it'd be a different conversation.

but however, out of all the minor characters in the series she is one of the ones that gets the least mercy from the fans and that definitely feels racist to me. i don't think people need to explain and dissect why they dislike a character (especially characters as complicated as Nora's) but the fact that it's so easy for fans to just jump on a hate train for the only canon WOC is deeply unsettling.

I think the complexity of Nora's characters actually make aftg fans really weird and intense when it comes to defending/attacking characters. I remembered being rlly taken aback by the Aaron and Nicky and like Allison hate that I saw when I first started engaging with other fans because so much of it just seemed not true and wayyyy overexaggerated??? idk if it's the fans themselves or the content that makes them so intense but.

my friend and i have a kevjean au where kevin and thea get divorced a little bit after having their daughter and thea goes out to travel for a period after realizing much of her life has been only about the nest and what the ravens wanted of her even years post-college, and kevin ends up being a stay at home dad of sort post-retirement. this is important because i am going to tell you this: when jean becomes a stepfather he takes it SERIOUSLY. a mix of booze and whimsy forces him to dress as santa claus for amalia one christmas and now he does it every year with no exception. i need you to imagine jean moreau dressed up as santa for kevin's little daughter. ok. i need you to visualize that with me

Kathea Lore 2:

Their 2nd “meeting” (1st being in therapy and vvv ugly) is when Kate and Aaron mutually break up after her return from the psych ward and his return from Thanksgiving (see dtyfstf); although the fic wouldn’t start there, that is the moment that created this spin-off ship/fic/project/AU.

Having heard how much shit the Foxes are going through, Thea flies in to check in on Kevin who has ghosted her (thus breaking her promise again of no-contact but way, way worse).

In a scene reminiscent of Andreil’s first meeting, Kate and Thea literally run into each other when Kate exits Aaron’s dorm so fast she slams door 317 into Thea and falls into her.

Because Kate is crying so hard and because Thea does not want their therapy group to get on her back any more than they already are, Thea puts her Kevin mission on hold and takes Kate back with her (idk where yet… hotel room? Bar? Diner? Cab?) to “support” her therapy mate.

Thea is the more surprised of the two at her decision to take Kate under her wing (u know like a raven).

Kate starts to believe Thea is not as bad/mean as she projects in group therapy.

Thea doesn’t understand why she went out of her way like that, why she acted so out of character, so she proceeds to /gently/ but firmly kick Kate out, call her an Uber, and the next time they see each other, weeks later, in group, Thea is cold and distant.

That's the main scene to be written at the moment, the thing that’ll start me up and show me the golden path of Kathea.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

To me they're like if a nymph (Katelyn) and a goddess (Thea) fell in love.

While it causes no real impact on Kate’s career (cheer + med) to be queer, Thea’s pro Exy career is highly at risk, what with already being an ex-Raven and a Black woman in a mixed sport; it’s important to me that we’re all aware of that; and thus despite both women being each other’s first sapphic/queer relationship, they have widely different backgrounds and stakes at play in committing (or not) to this new love.

Katelyn doesn’t want to see Thea as a threat, for herself, Aaron and the Vixens/Foxes, but sometimes the way Thea handles her past and present is scary, and Kate doesn’t know if Thea is trustworthy with everything (and Riko) going on; those who have read ‘dance ‘til you find someone to die for’ know why trust and betrayal are big issues in the Katheaverse.

However, Thea doesn’t know anything about the vastness of Riko's evils; her main tormentor has always been Tetsuji Moriyama. 

Riko acted the way all male Ravens (except Jean and Kevin) have always treated her: with misogyny and bigotry. Riko wasn’t special, not with her, not to her; but she doesn’t realize yet the Ravens were a cult, that it wasn’t normal, that she has repressed some things and that what is hurting her inside is also hurting others, whether fellow ex-Ravens like Jean and Kevin, or outsiders like Kate and Aaron who become collateral damage wave after wave Riko creates.

Of course I’m playing with the age gap between Thea (26-28) and Kate (20-22) because I think it’s very sexy and I’m self-projecting what I wish would happen to me love-wise 💅 I also previously thought about bringing up Thea’s trauma with younger partners (i.e., the whole Kevin grooming shitshow that was made-up by a-hole fans) to lay the issue to rest once and for all, but since some of y’all provoked Nora Sakavic into defending Queen Theodora Muldani and blasting y’all to dust, I don’t think I will! But who knows. It was important to me at one point, I’m just saying. More crumbs for you, eh.

with TSC now out I've been able to refine them and some of their facts and also more of what they'd spill about the Ravens and their experiences

putting this under the cut for TSC spoilers and also cause it'll probably be a long post

quick rundown of Mara and Florian's characters ig

Florian Laska (he/they):

19 years old

extremely bisexual

an early recruit to the Ravens who graduated high school early with the intent of running away from his mother as soon as possible

started playing for the Ravens at age 16

started as dealer but now plays as a striker

got a severe injury "in a scrimmage" with the Ravens that resulted in the loss of his leg, he continues playing with a prosthetic

fingers are heavily mishapen from being broken so many times and never set

dropped out Edgar Allan University for reasons still unknown (refusal to explain to the press)

wanted to be a nursing student

at the time of TSC is the youngest recruit for the olympic court and plays with fellow former raven Mara Fasil

commitment issues

covered in scars the most noticable being around his wrists, self harm scars, and a bite mark on his neck

learned french from Jean and Mara and bits and pieces of arabic and berber from Mara

told Kevin if his hand didn't get better they could just chop it off and give him a new one like they did with Florian's leg

Mara Fasil (she/her):

23 years old

if I did my math right she would've been a junior at the time Florian started with the Ravens

i don't actually remember if the Ravens have rules against partners being different genders but um if they do then fuck that because Mara was Florian's partner and they're still unhealthily codependent

wanted to major in architecture

she's lost track of how many times her nose has been broken but she's pretty sure it's in the double digits. has been pressured to get surgery to straighten it and refuses to

a raging lesbian who's also a raging asexual

personally i think she should date thea but idk ig i can't have everything

a dealer

still has not adjusted to 24 hour days

graduated in 4 years instead of the expected 5 which was partially motivated by Florian dropping out

ANYWAY these two are major troublemakers especially for their Olympic teammates. Florian is typically much more subdued and grounded than Mara who is more hot tempered and has trouble watching her mouth except for that time that Florian yelled at Tetsuji in front of a bunch of players from a variety of teams (and immediately threw up) (this was post leaving the Ravens)

Mara has a bad habit of just not shutting her mouth around the press now that she's allowed to be in front of them. she will not so subtly imply that most of her injuries are not from innocent practices and games. Has engaged in twitter discourse by dropping memes (specifically dropped one of that grant gustin peace sign meme with riko's name on the grave and "me" written over grant gustin shortly after riko's death)

Florian's exposure of the Ravens is largely from slip ups in front of the press. Pulled a Kevin Day "did you never know I've never been skiing" implying him losing his leg wasn't caused by a really bad scrimmage injury and was a lot more purposeful than that. Refused to meet with the press for 3 months following the incident.

it's almost impossible to catch the two separately. and if they aren't seen together they're always with someone else (usually Emiko or another member of the Olympic team, who did not sign up for this shit rip). Florian specifically has a godawful time not being with someone 24/7 (if he's at an Exy event and can't find any of his team he will purposefully seek out other Ravens, usually Kevin or Jean if he can find them, or Thea if she's there)

It's by the time TSC rolls around/the end of TKM that Florian starts getting pissed off enough to start purposefully dropping hints to the press about the Ravens. When the investigation starts and Tetsuji resigns a lot of his comments become a lot more targeted and it eventually results in Jeremy seeing enough that he contacts Kevin to get Florian's contact info so he can hopefully get some answers (he is only somewhat successful and Florian tells him it's only cause he has such a pretty face)

I don't know how yet but one of them, Florian I think, has some ties to the Moriyama's albeit distant that manage to snag them some level of protection from Ichirou so they don't yk get killed

Florian has visible scarring he does often hint at coming from other Ravens and it being purposeful. Mara has outright stated she was a target of many of her teammates. Mara has also called the Ravens a shit team which Florian then tried to smooth over and failed to do so (couldn't call them a good team without implying they're only that successful cause they play dirty)

Florian's a lot more snarky (and really just an outright cunt) in private and without cameras in his face but if he's being hounded enough it'll come out and he has flipped off more reporters than he'd like to admit

basically they're stupid and stumbling their way through dealing with the press for the first time in their lives and it just happens to coincide with the Ravens having the WORST time

that's where i'm leaving it cause this shit has gotten too long omg though i'd love to talk about Em and Ilya at some point I cannot keep writing an essay on these guys lmao

Hi, I’m such a fan of your kandreil vampire series It hurts in the best way. I was rereading the Christmas one and noticed how even retroactively thinking about Kevin accepting Thea’s proposal sets off something in Andrew, and hurts him pretty intensely (which makes sense considering his canon abandonment issues are ramped up in this verse because of the circumstances). But I was wondering how you think everything unfolded re: how Andrew found out they were getting married / when and how Kevin told him? And if it was not that much longer than a couple of years (which was the sense I got) after Andrew made his offer to change him I definitely think there would’ve been a period of time where Andrew withdrew from Kevin a lot. I both can’t imagine Andrew at the wedding and feel like Kevin would not feel right about him not being there, so either way I think whoever was there was likely miserable unless Kevin and Thea, being so practical and less romantic, just had a small ceremony with no one except maybe Wymack and someone close to Thea or her family. With the way you wrote it I almost feel like there was some massive miscommunication between Kandrew about this where Kevin put off telling Andrew about the engagement until everyone else already knew and Andrew found out from Nicky or Wymack or someone but maybe that’s not what you pictured at all. Also you said they were practically in a relationship in college but in an unspoken way so that’s more miscommunication fuel from Andrew’s end potentially, and I could see a lot of his frustration about the situation being channeled into the animosity he seems to have towards Thea even if it isn’t totally fair. Sorry for rambling I just was thinking a lot about some of the details of your fic because I think the character work in it, especially how Andrew is written is fascinating

Hi! Okay I'm so excited about this ask because I have this whole timeline mapped out lmao.

Kevin's 27 when Andrew offers, that puts it in 2013. The thing about them is that they never had anything before Neil, yet they did. It was never explicit, never stated, never talked about, but they had feelings for each other and acted on them in almost every aspect except for the sexual one. But. After graduation Kevin moves away and Andrew stays to work with Roland, and that's kinda like a breakup for them. Kevin comes around a lot, the conversation when Andrew offers him immortality actually happens at Eden's. The following year Thea proposes and Kevin says yes. It's not really out of the blue, they had been together since the nest, it was time (the whole world was basically a giant aunt at that point asking them when it would happen because they weren't getting any younger).

Kevin does tell Andrew, he's one of the first people he calls, and Andrew congratulates him and all. There's a piece of vampire lore in this AU that I have no idea whether I've posted any parts with it in it or not, but it's about the age the person's turned (stay with me haha). Vampires are rare, why? Because immortality sucks. After 100 years or so everyone you knew is dead, the world is completely different, yet you remain the same, it just sucks, most vampires don't make it past that mark, and the ones who do were mostly turned under the age of 25 (it has to do with the brain not being fully formed until then in my head). sooooooo by the fact that Kevin is in his late 20s by that point, Andrew sort of has accepted that he'll never be like him (I sort of because that scorpio will never really let go of that).

Andrew congratulates Kevin, Kevin wants him as his best man, Andrew says no because he's an immortal vampire and he doesn't want the media to find out, but deep down it's because he's 1: too deep in his own misery to get himself out of it for long enough and 2: he doesn't want to watch Kevin grow up.

Andrew hates Thea with a passion, always have. At first he saw her as Kevin's beard, then when he realized bi people exist and saw her as the one thing keeping them apart (which she was definitely not lmao).

Kevin keeps them apart. A lot. He knows how Andrew feels and isn't about to give his wife any chance at being alone with a vampire (Kevin doesn't see Andrew as a monster ever, the nest fucked him up like that that murder is never a big deal and well Andrew's killing for food how different is that from that steak on the barbecue?) and risk her becoming dinner.

I love writing them in this. I love exploring human nature, and Andrew's nature, how even in canon he's just thrust into situations and deals with them later, he doesn't actively tries to change anything unless it affects others (which is why he's in an eternal state of sad for like ten years until Neil shows up and gives him the push he needs to change things, if that makes sense).

Okay i finished All for the game and i have many many thoughts since these books have taken over my brain unfortunately.

I want to preface everything by saying that the series is bad BUT i don't think that it's that relevant. Like from what i know these were self-published on a blog and i doubt that they ever saw a professional editor, no publishing house ever touched them, so judging them as one would judge a professionally edited book is not fair and to be completely honest there are books, even popular ones, that are worse than these on every level.

Now that this out of the way here's my thoughts on aftg in no particular order

I love the main trio sososo much. Probably the main reason why i enjoyed this as much as i did is them. All of their interactions are immaculate. I hoped for a three-way relationship till the end

Neil is such a good protagonist. He's insane but he's convinced that he's normal. The fact that he can't shut up sends me every time and even funnier is that even if everyone knows that he can't keep his mouth shut no one does anything to stop him ever, they just let him. And he is so ace you can't change my mind

I love Andrew he's so edgy. And even if he's so incredibly edgy his backstory still hits hard. Kinda disappointed that all of his obsession with Kevin basically disappeared in the last book (with a couple of exceptions) for no good reason, i wanted it to be more prominent in the resolution but it just fizzled out

Kevin. Kevin is my fave. I love him to bits. He is the dark haired deuteragonist of a sport anime. He is the Kageyama of this series. He has two mood 1 being obsessed with exy and 2 having a panic attack 10/10. And i don't care if he has a girlfriend, to me he is ace. The author can say what they want but i don't give a shit. Ace icon that only think about sport and have mental breakdowns

Speaking of Kevin's girlfriend Thea... she's the most weird character in the books. She's name dropped out of nowhere halfway through book 2, then she's never mentioned again till the second to last chapter where she appears for three pages, she does nothing relevant for the plot and she disappear again. She's one of the few characters who has a proper physical description so we know she's hot but her impact is zero. You can remove her and nothing will change. Kevin would have ended up there even without her so why even include her? Like girl you're hot but who are you and what are you doing here?

Talking about hot girls, Allison is my queen. She's iconic, she never said anything wrong ever in three books. She is the only one asking the real questions and she deserved more pages. She and Renee should have kissed at the end

The only thing that keeps the series from being set in generic contemporary times is the way Matt styles his hair. That is so mid y2k every time it's mentioned i got whiplash

Sad that the slurs disappeared after the first book i found them funny and a good way to convey the year the story is set in

The "your intricate and endless daddy issues" is one of the best line ever written it will never leave my vocabulary

Riko has the worst daddy issues imaginable which is 1 funny 2 makes him a good character and i almost feel for him... but then i remember he hurt Kevin sooooo

Jean is pathetic in a endearing way. But he's french and that makes hin lose a lot of points

I'm sad that the Trojans are there for only one chapter i wanted to see more of them

The way Neil talks about Kevin is hilarious. He can't stand him but he talks about him like the second coming of christ. Everything would have been solved if they just had a make out session in the locker room

Still not over the fact that while this books are very much about sport the yakuza is a prominent part of the story. Like that is an important part, half of the books are about it

The ravens are the least serious element in all of this. There's tension about Neil's lies being unveild and Kevin general well being and you are worried for them... and out of nowhere appears the villain team of a children's cartoon with all of them with the same clothes and walking in v formation how am i supposed not to laugh! And how is no one asking questions about them?? After 5 years of living in a cult they are released into the world and you are telling me that they are well adjusted enough to not rise any suspicion about what is going on in there?? No one is asking why there are living quarters in a bunker under a stadium?? If only one person says something after they graduate they will be fucked, there's no one with a family in that team? Why does the yakuza let this happen?!?!?!

The 16 hours long days during the holidays will plague me till the day i die it makes no sense and i find it hysterical. Why are they doing it? Don't know but they do

"it's just the two of us this weekend," he pointed out, in case neil missed the otherwise empty car. the car ride was unusually silent, but that was the way andrew liked it.

Honestly I’ve never shipped Kevin with anybody ever, in my head he was always just a silly little guy surrounded by his family, not really interested in romance or anything like that but with the recent Nora post going a little in depth about Thea and her and Kevin’s relationship something in my brain genuinely clicked and now I AM OBSESSED! I can’t wait for the new books to learn more about her and I am very sad that Nora decided to cut some of her scenes out (not her fault obviously I fully understand that she did it for her own peace of mind, I’m just mad at the people that caused her to feel that way)

It's not what could have been with the scrapped book 4 or any other scenes that were cut from TSC 1 and 2, but still. There's much less place for speculation now (except for what type of dog do they have lol xhd) and I think ill be posting about Thea for weeks to come honestly xd
