#I’ve been having bad dreams for the past few nights or just not sleeping well :(#I think the biggest cause is just procrastination for important things like making doctors appts doing Fulbright and doing essay/hw#those take up so much space in my mind but literally makes me feel so sick I don’t do it#executive dysfunction who? my counselor called it self sabotage because... ya#I recognized it yesterday too while talking with a friend#anyways so feelings lots of anger and frustration because I LITERALLY UNDERSTAND THIS ABOUT MYSELF#I AM AWARE I AM MAKING BAD DECISIONS? hOW DO I JUST STOP? HOW DO I JUST START TO DO THE THING IM SUPPOSED TO DO?#I told my significant other yesterday that like... if I could take adder all I would just to do the shit I gots to do... just once!#but my friend who actually TAKES adderall was like... that won’t work. it’ll work maybe one time if that and then you’re do it over again#like I was telling her that like when I face problems I just come up with solutions instead of face the problem#example pass/fail for a class... and she was like u could but what about next semester when you’re stuck again?#it’s really making me think back to high school when I struggled with the same thing#back then I was always like ‘just wait till you graduate’ esp senior year. like I majorly fell back. yikes#and im scared it’s happening again and I’m just watching it happen instead of doing anything to stop it#also I’m doing half of the right things? on meds. seeing a counselor.#but the self compassion is so hard especially when everyone’s world got flipped upside because#partially because COVID but shit has been real rough for my fam since 2019 let alone 2020#anyways I see myself regressing a lot and I’m upset and my dreams keep going back to high school and people I knew n what I wanna say to ‘em#it’s kinda to the point where I think about like dropping out a lot again or using or harming/ideation so like big yikes! we struggling lads#ghost rants

I have ended up crying, once again.
I just can't take when people yell at me, much less if it's because they're dissapointed or just someone telling me I did something a way they didn't want to. As much as I try to hold back my tears, they eventually end up coming out and I hate that.
When I'm alone, I do cry if I need to. I let them come out if it's the best. But when I'm in public... It's different. I know that if I cry, all eyes will be on me and I don't want that. I don't want to drive people's attention to me or worry them. I just don't want to be seen when crying... I feel small.
Unfortunately, lately I just keep crying. Too fucking much. I don't know if it's because of the stress I might recopile, if I just feel alone or what the hell, but I keep feeling alone, worrying, thinking that I will have a bad day -AND ACTUALLY HAVING IT- , feeling that I've got nobody by my side and eventually breaking.
Today it happened again.
I was in drawing after-school class. Our teacher now gives the inexperienced ones activities and today, she said she had an activity for us too. I thought, "hey, maybe she gives us something different this time! Maybe she actually teaches us new techniques or helps us improve!"
...
But no. She just... came to us, with a book filled with drawings and asked us to copy, once again.
I am TIRED of not being given any good activities. Anything that helps me improve my artstyle. I want to create by myself, not copy something I've seen. I want to learn stuff.
So I said, "that's basically copying". I asked, nicely, if she could give me something else to do, like helping me practice perspective on humans, backgrounds...
Then she asked me to draw a human with the 'camera' above their head and another one with it at their feet... but the thing is, she didn't actually explain me how it worked. She just, left me to do it.
And I could hear her helping the unexperienced ones and teaching them what to do while I just sat there, looking at my blank paper, trying to do something... failing. I eventually managed to do an attempt of the camera-above-head exemple, frustrated though, some tears had begun compiling in my eyes, but I wouldn't let them out.
She saw the drawing. It was wrong. She told me to look at her while she explained how to do it using her figure as an example, but I wouldn't lift my head from the paper. Because if I did, she'd see them. She'd see my tears and, eventually, she'd see me cry. And I didn't want that. I eventually had to lift my head though, and she saw them but kept her mouth shut.
At that point, I wanted to ask her if I could get out for a moment, but I kept re-thinking of it. What would I even have done if she'd let me out? Would I have gone to the streets and break down there? That was even worse! I didn't have a place to. I realized the only thing that would work would be holding it in.
Some minutes passed and the teacher turned at us, the experienced ones, and said that she didn't see the point in giving us activities if we were going to take them so lamely. If we were going to have 0 interest and I assumed she said this because I wouldn't lift my head at her ealier.
Thoughts swarmed my head and the knot in my throat just kept getting stronger so I finally broke down right there, right then. I just stared at my paper, feeling how tears fell down on my cheeks nonstop.
The classmate next to me saw me and asked if I was okay. I shook my head - I knew that if I tried to speak to say "no", my voice would just crack and I'd let out more tears. Then, she offered me a hug and, feeling safe, I let out my tears. I really can not express how much that hug meant to me.
I am sure the teacher saw it but she didn't say anything... She didn't seem to care.
When I got out of the place, I was shaking. I couldn't stop, and now I'm home, writing this, venting to myself once again.
I have told my parents about what happened and we're seeing what we can do about it.
I hate this. This place used to be cool. It used to be a getaway from any problems, a place where I could be myself and enjoy doing what I love the most, learning new things each day, with classmates that I enjoyed being around of and a cool as hell teacher.
Now... Only two classmates are actually kind to me and... well. You already know about the teacher.

hi! read your last ask and you said that you took up creative writing classes so you might have a wider knowledge about this but i was wondering when u mentioned different writing styles (like minimalistic, hightened imagery, linear vilennete and all of that) could you maybe explain the difference and what they really mean and maybe examples in our own levihan nation and writers? this might be asking for too much but i was pretty lost and i'd like to know more about all that. however you are def free to ignore this too!
Did you just ask me to write a comprehensive poetics essay, Anon? (I love writing about writing lmao)
Super long post ahead, and I’ll be citing certain fanfics that I’ve read so far and those that I think somehow exemplifies all the different writing styles I mentioned in the previous post.
First off, the ones I listed beforehand (minimalistic prose, heightened imagery, poetic language, linear narrative, non-linear vignettes) aren’t the only types of writing styles. There are more if you consider the variations of tone (humor/comedy, sentimental, macabre, noir etc), narration/perspective (first person, second person, third person omniscient/limited), and language (dialogue-heavy or action/scene-driven). And the nice thing is that you can actually use of one or two of them in your work---or all of them, if you’re feeling bold.
As Hange always loves to do: “Let’s experiment!”
--------
I’ll start with minimalistic prose. It is what it is: short, clear, and concise. Think less is more. You have an economy with words where you disregard most adverbs and focus more on the context to make way for meaning, thus allowing the readers to create their own interpretations of your writing. I think the method here is to write your intended draft first, and then cut the unnecessary words to flesh out the scene even more.
Notice how @stereobone wrote this paragraph of Black Dog (an Eruri fic):
Isabel's voice wakes him, brother, brother, has him sitting upright in bed and grabbing for the knife under his mattress. He braces himself for the attack before he realizes there isn't one. There is nothing in the darkness but him and his heavy, panicked breathing. Levi's heart feels like it's trying to beat its way out of his chest. He drops the knife on the mattress and shuts his eyes and tries not to think about Farlan's bloody resigned face before he was eaten. He tries not to think about how he left them. How it's his fault.
It’s very simplistic in language; the paragraph lets you focus on Levi’s innermost thoughts while he deals with an external action (ie, having nightmares). The author hasn’t unraveled the rest of the plot yet, but you already know where the tension is coming from.
Next is heightened imagery. If you’re familiar with the different figures of speech (metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, etc), then this is where they all come into play. I think the challenge here is being able to balance it well with the text itself and make sure that the imagery actually clarifies the context of the paragraph instead of convoluting the intended meaning.
Here’s an excerpt from A Dangerous Game by just_quintessentially_me:
Hanji watched Levi, standing there, head bent and bloodied handkerchief pressed against his arm, and was reminded, irrationally, of a night years ago. When her parents had taken her to the circus. [. . . .] Holding her parent’s hands, she’d gaped, head craned back as she watched the spectacle, a cacophonous mixture of sound and color. At the center of it all, she’d spied a boy. Among the twisting colors and tricks, he alone, was still. [. . . .] The boy was high above, balancing on a platform atop a long pole. In front of him, stretched an audaciously thin rope. Below, no net waited to catch him.
[. . . .]
When Levi looked up, his expression was set - like the boy before the tightrope. And she knew, with sinking certainty, he was going to take the step. Into thin air.
Gray eyes met her gaze and held it.
“Yeah. I’ll go.”
At the door, Kenny smiled.
See how the powerful imagery of the boy on the tightrope was able to fuel the tension in that moment among Levi, Hange, and Kenny?
I think poetic language is akin to heightened imagery, except that the former is more focused on the actual language. It’s very lyrical, wherein you can actually hear the lulling song of the sentences in a rhythm. One of my favorite works that does this is Deep sea baby by @smallblip. Here she makes use of various setting and scenery to create this entire atmosphere of Levi and Hange’s relationship:
Hanji knows whatever life they've led, this is her favourite.
The one in which her and Levi see the sea for the first time together.
The one in which she’s the Commander, and him, her Captain. And between them, a river of words left unsaid threatening to break the banks.
One day they must cross the ocean, but today they visit the shores again, without the kids this time. And Levi learns why when he watches her peel at her clothes. Her harness comes off first, then her blouse, then everything else, like a little dance for an audience of one. Levi tries not to stare, but he’s already seen her by candlelight in the dead of the night. And yet she never fails to take his breath away.
She makes her way to where the white foams dredge the past up the shores of the present.
"Come on Levi! The water is warm!" she says, and he hears it like a call to come home- where the heavens collide with the sea.
He takes off his clothes and folds them in a neat pile beside Hanji's mess. He swims out to join her.
It’s hauntingly poetic, the way the author is able to connect the metaphor in “a river of words” to the actual body of water right in front of Levi and Hange. Good poetic language is able to tighten up the texts together while keeping the sentence structure flowing with apt figures of speech.
When it comes to narratives, it only comes down to linear or non-linear. See how @lostcauses-noregrets does her opening statement in Trains (also an Eruri fic):
Levi hates trains. To be fair, Levi hates all forms of public transport, but he reserves a particular loathing for trains. They’re dirty, noisy, smelly and worse, filled with people. People who, heaven forbid, might attempt to speak to Levi, engage him in conversation. Levi’s worst nightmare is being stuck on a train with some friendly fuck who wants to pass the time making small talk. Admittedly it’s not a problem he has to deal with too often, his general fuck off demeanour deters all but the most aggressively friendly and hopelessly inebriated. But that doesn’t stop Levi from hating trains.
It’s a short fic and it’s very dependent on the linearity of events happening. But with that banger of a first sentence, the beginning already gives you enough of an idea of Levi’s pet peeve in the story, which in this case, is trains.
Here’s another hot and steamy fic called keep him waiting by keobuns that shows a linear narrative:
He’s sitting with them in the back of the lab, nursing a cup of tea — it’s still pretty full, and even cold now, for he was far too distracted listening to Hanji talk to properly drink — when he sees it. Hanji’s too preoccupied with overexplaining the same Titan experiment they’ve gone over a hundred times to notice his stare. They just continue on and on and on, gesturing with their hands, pointing with their fingers, flexing their wrists…
Ah. Levi has to bring his teacup to his lips to hide the way his lips tremble. Hanji has incredibly nice hands.
The entire story just revolves around Levi simping for Hange’s hands and how it all goes down from there. But you as a reader are kept wanting more with every paragraph and every sentence that the author constructs (and trust me, it’s not just the sexual tension between Levi and Hange that keeps us going).
Now, as much as I love the straightforwardness of linear prose, non-linear writing brings a different round of ideas onto the table. It can create recollections from flashbacks, heighten the perspective or interior turmoil of a character due to trauma or grief, or even just re-invent what-if scenes that the characters have imagined themselves.
Gnossiene by @thatalmondgirl is one of my all-time favorite Rivetra fics. In this excerpt, you will see how she switches between the past and the present, and how it affects Petra’s POV as a conflicted character:
Contrary to popular belief (fuck Auruo) Petra actually didn’t cry easily.
Alright, she could admit that at some times, she was...emotional. It was far from a weakness, but even she could admit that they sometimes got in the way and walled off all rational thought. Anger, frustration, sadness, hell, even happiness. The only one she could easily compartmentalise away was fear, which probably stemmed from her military career. Even so. It was never easy to separate all the others from her actions, think from a clean slate like the Commander could do, like the captain. [. . . ] Petra groaned, splayed out across her bed. She drew her arm across her eyes, willing the tears to go away. She’d already blown through her tissue box.
“Petra, a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” Mama sat on the end of her bed, with Petra on the floor between her legs. Even though Petra argued firmly that she was old enough to brush her own hair, Mama had insisted. Unfortunately, Petra wasn’t old enough - and probably never would be - to disagree with her mother.
“I know, Mama.” Petra grumbled.
“I don’t think you do. Else you wouldn’t be crying, would you?”
[. . . .]
“But a man shouldn’t complete you when you complete yourself. Maybe he’s an extension to your house. So you’ll be sad if the extension is compromised or burns down. But you still have the main house. And if it’s strong, the main house can still be standing even after the worst storm.”
Aside from Mama’s crazy metaphors that sometimes didn’t make sense, her message hit home. Even if it hit home years later.
See how it switched in between the before and after?
An off-shoot of non-linear writing are vignettes (a layering of scenes separated by section breaks) wherein this writing style allows writers to curate scenes in terms of fragments, creating some kind of mosaic for the readers once they finally see the big picture. Nakimochiku’s I’m leaving, are you coming with me? stacks up scenes of interactions between Levi and Hange, enough to depict the kind of relationship that they have as young lovers in a school setting. You can string these fragments together, rearrange them in a different order, but in the end, you will still get the author's clear goal of highlighting how Levi and Hange’s relationship develops over time.
Those are the styles that I mentioned in my previous posts, but as I’ve told you, there’s more to writing than those, so I’ll give a short run-through of other methods in writing.
Whether it’s dialogue-heavy works such as from my window to yours, or action-driven scenes like Carnivores (a Levi x Reader fic by CaptainDegenerate) that propel the story forward, we as readers should be able to follow through the actual storyline that the authors intend to take us.
A third-person limited (we listen to Hange’s thoughts in Clockwork by @tundrainafrica) vis-à-vis an all-knowing/omniscient narration (the moon is dark by @sayonarasanity alternates the perspective of Levi and Hange) should be able to make us understand why the author chose this particular kind of point-of-view in order to tell the story.
And lastly, having a solid and consistent tone throughout the work (the macabre of Even Humanity’s Strongest could make mistakes by Rimeko versus the sweet sentimentality of Flowers for You by @fanmoose12) should be able to set the atmosphere that the authors want us to imbibe as we read through their works.
So there’s your crash course on writing and reading. Enjoy? :)

Bully put me through hell for an entire year I made sure she'll fail all her final exams
Hello! This is my first time posting anything on reddit. Also, English isn't my native language so I might have grammatical errors (but do point them out in comments if you want as I want to better myself in english). I'm also on mobile
So a little back ground. I live in middle east (Iran) and bullying is very rare and unheard of in all girl schools (I don't know about boy schools but I'm sure they have their fights and bullying) we have to go to same gender schools from primary to high school and only in university we sit in both gender classes.
This story goes back to ten years ago when I was 8. My family was poor at that time and we lived in a small town in southern part of the country. My dad was promoted to work in the capital so we packed our stuff and went there and rented a house. I had a thick southern accent and people a decade ago weren't as "woke" as they are now so I was picked on a lot for my accent. Also I was a very very shy girl, barely talked and was a pushover (something I'm still struggling with to this day) but I was very smart. I studied a lot of higher grade books on my own. I LOVED studying with all my heart since there was not much I could do with my free time since we were broke. my teachers always recommend me to skip 1 or 2 grades (for example study second grade in summer and start school at 3rd garde) but I couldn't do so because that summer we decided to move towns and my life was unstable at that moment.
Came the first day of school. I had no friend and didn't know anyone since we just moved in. Everyone were friends with each other because they spent the first grade together. Also I was very tall for my age so I went straight to the the desk at the back of the class to not cause problem for any student. Anyways that's when I met my bully. She was sitting one desk a head of me and when I saw her I IMMEDIATELY got this strange feeling that I should avoid her. It was the strongest gut feeling I've had in my life. Never have I ever met someone and in first glance I thought don't be near them just don't. She didn't have a mean face and wasn't out of ordinary it was just a feeling I couldn't explain. Anyway, teachers come and tell us to all go in the hallway so she can arrange us and tell us what two people should sit on which desk according to our heights. All those seconds I was praying please please please don't let me sit next to her for 9 months. And guess what? We had to share the same desk. Great.
Anyway, it's a blur for me how exactly the bullying started but I guess she figured out I was extremely shy and figured she could have her way with me. She started using my pencils and erasers and then took them for her own. She started stealing my food that my mom packed for me when I wasn't looking and played with the wrapping in front of my face afterwards. Sometimes our teacher let our deskmates to grade us on our dictation exams and I always graded her fairly but I started noticing my grades were becoming lower and lower and my mom was concerned. One time I stood behind her when she was grading me and saw that she's adding dots to my words (our alphabet has a lot of dots like ت چ ق خ) so if we add to them no matter how bizarre they look the teacher will reduce your score. She suddenly turned around as if sensing someone was behind her and when we locked eyes I could see the terror in her eyes. I suddenly grew a spine because she was messing with my grades and I wanted all my grades to be perfect scores so I went and informed the teacher but she just lectured her about her actions and nothing more happened to her.
After that she got more hostile with me. She waited for me on exams to fill the entire paper so she could snatch the exam sheet from my hand and erase my name and put her instead and gave me her paper instead. I tried to get my paper back but she kept pinching my hand and scratching it. I had to answer the entire exam in 15mins or so. She humiliated me in front of her friends and kept telling me how much of a shitty friend I am since I never invited my "best friend" to my house. I wasn't comfortable with it cause we didn't have many furnitures at that time and most of them were old and I knew if I invited her she would tell everyone the next day about our house and I didn't want them to think I have bad parents because we don't have that much money even though my dad and mom were working very hard for me and my older brother to have a better life.
The bullying took a toll on me. I cried myself to sleep most of the nights and made me, someone who enjoyed school and studying, dread the next morning because I didn't want to deal with her yet I'd never informed anyone about it because I felt like I would be a burden to people around me and oddly enough at that time I didn't really want her to get in trouble i felt bad fod her since her parents were divorced (in my country especially a decade ago it was a huge stigma to get divorced hence most couples decided to stay together so they wouldn't be shamed or for the sake of their kids and even if they wanted divorce their parents mostly wouldn't let them since no one wanted their kid to be the black sheep in the family. So you could say having divorced parents especially at that age was very rare). So I decided to deal with her myself and if she kept harassing me I would try to find a way to get out of school. I sometimes made myself puke in the middle of class (I'm SO sorry mrs. Janitor) and was sent home but after a couple times they told me I can't just go home I had a lot of absences. Although it never affected my grades I had perfect score in every subject. The worst of all was when she forced me to walk her home. I refused and told her I don't know this neighborhood since we just moved in a couple months ago but she promised me she would take me back but she left me when we were near her house and expectedly I got lost and couldn't find my way back home. I took some roads but just got more lost and scared and just sat there and cried my eyes out. It was getting darker and at some point a gentleman found me and I told him my building complex and he took me home. My parents were searching for me everywhere on car and my mom was crying and that made me cry even harder. So yeah I was very miserable that year.
Finally, THE REVENGE:
Came the last month of school. my aunt and my mom suggested that I study 3rd grade in summer and start the new school year as a 4th grader since I have the brains and I also was tall so I wouldn't look too small for my grade. I thought to myself I know I'm gonna make it so I'm not gonna be in her class next year. Basically I had nothing to lose. So I waited till the month of final exams. As usual she would sat there (I guess because we were 2nd graders our teacher didn't take it seriously and didn't made us to sit on separate desks so we still sat mext to each other) with a blank exam paper and let me take the exam as usual and snatch the paper when I'm done and I was forced to do the exam again. Little did she know I filled those exam papers will every bullshit that came to my mind I didn't even left 1 correct answer there. I was letting out all my anger from that year on her and I was enjoying every second of it and she was oblivious to all of it since she was sure all answers were correct and never checked the papers. I passed that year with flying colors at the top of my class as usual and she failed every single exam. I never saw her again after the last exam and once school ended I rested for one or two weeks and started studying the 3rd grade. I also passed that grade with perfect scores and started the new year at 4rth grade. It was so liberating to watch the look on my previous classmates when they saw me with 4th grade kids and they kept telling me you got the wrong class and I just told them nope I skipped 3rd grade. As for my bully she wasn't in 3rd grade next year and I heard from someone school refused to sign her up for the next year. Revenge was so sweet for my 8-9 year old self after everything I've endured. I know should've asked an adult for help but I was a shy small town girl that didn't fit in with busy parents and didn't want to burden anyone and thought I could handle it. I had low self esteem for a long time but I got better at handling my problems and not letting people take advantage of me like that.
Edit: spelling

aw shiro, my love, don't worry about it!! i only hope you're okay and safe :d please only reply when you're free, and don't feel bad about it!! >:(
my day yesterday was okay, i've just been relaxing, and studying occasionally. went out to explore a nearby town too, it's so pretty there. and much colder (since it's a highlands) of course!! Today was great too. I bought doughnuts (they're amazing?? I love doughnuts), and I had instant ramen, but it was SO spicy I nearly died. (Three bottles of water later, because someone finished all the milk in the household *cough* me *cough*) and I'm still just reeling. Sucks having such low spice tolerance HAHA. I'm listening to some old school hip-hop rn, while typing this out :D how were your two days?
here are some i'll be using to teach english :d and that would honestly be much appreciated, he's getting on my last nerve rn. (I included the first few, what do you think?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thats such a priceless feeling i so totally agree. you're so precious 🥺🥺 i'm sure they're prouder thank you imagine. you're so dedicated!! i'm sure all that extra research you've done will definitely pay off. it's good that you know what the job is roughly like, so you'll be really prepared when you finally do start it. you know that one scene, in the 2nd season of the great pretender? when the chinese mafia boss emphasizes the importance of a translator in literally everything? (like that book award example) i may be getting the thing muddled up, but i found that so cool. like yeah, a book or speech could be absolutely beautiful, but if everyone can't enjoy it due to it being a different language, it would be such a shame. i just find translators really important. sorry, i'm really dorky haha 🥺🥺
awww but i think your personality type is wonderful. a lot of my favourite characters are intj (they're all so precious istg grrrr) yes!! i was in a tooru brainrot yesterday too 😭😭😭 (saw a bunch of couples on my walk, and I was like "if only Tooru was real grrrr") and yes?? there'd be so much to learn from each and every one of them. dedication from hinata, savage lines from tsukki, kindness from yams/yachi, how to be a dork 101 from atsumu. aaaah 😭😭i'm sorry they're all so wonderful.
No pftttt I totally feel you. I saw some people without masks today and I was like "bro wtf" and just really loudly said "I sure hope everyone starts following the rules so the cases don't increase" because I'm a lil bitch like that xD
awww okay!! I'll definitely keep that in mind. Mayo makes everything better, tbh >.< aww that's understandable! I don't have specific preferences but hearing the phrase "soggy cheese" makes me want to cry somewhere :( I don't like nuts in chocolate. I'm very passionate about that? XD ikr??
I'm surprised too, I usually never pass on murder, but I guess you're just special like that 👉👈 sir I'd get married to you as many times as you'd like 😼 oops sorry for being cheesy, but—you like cheese ;)
U
I won't ask why, don't worry. Since I kinda feel the same about Malaysia tbh. It's a love hate relationship, I think HAHA but yeah 😣😣 i don't look up to US at all, and it sucks because people generally do. And I'm just like ;-; why (no offense to Americans tho lol)
is that even legal omg they're so chaotic?? XD how cute tho. Angel does stuff like that all the time too, but I'd never know that when I first met her (she has the most perfect exterior, and then when you get to know her; she's the biggest dork) Schools opening on the 20th, I can't wait to see her then :] (I can, however, wait for the exams which are scheduled for the 25th ugh)
peanut butter is indeed yellow, not up for discussion hehe :) here's my favourite hues!! I love gentle, soft hues like these (pastels) , for yellow; I don't have a favourite. they're all wonderful
Tumblr media
ahhh no that's so precious of you!! :)) I'm smiling rn.
yeah skdhskdjsk I'M JUST SO GRRR. Whenever someone goes "hey Ari can you ______" and we both respond?? The tension?? In the air?? Bro skdjskks. 😔🤚 You share a name with one of the most precious characters too tho!!;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Shiro from Voltron hehe. I love him so much, just like I love you (tho I'm sure we both know I love you more <3)
I share a name with a book character. His name is Aristotle Mendoza, but his crush-turned-boyfriend calls him "Ari" (which has been my nickname since I was 12). Reading it for the first time was the BEST feeling ever. It's also my favourite book, "Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe".
—Ari :D (no pfttt I love the tag so much. I have my own tag, that's like the best thing ever 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)
Heyyy I'm so sorry for answering so late!! I know you said not to apologize but..... well hmm no excuse I just feel like apologizing, but either way thank you for your patience!!♡ This is the third time I'm rewriting this, and this time I'm doing this in my notes because fuck it😔
Im glad to hear that!! Highlands are always so pretty. Wish we had those here, but it's only steppe here:( Boring~ ooh, donuts!!! They're really good. I havent much, but I tried them like 3 times and they're so good. I really hope I will get to eat more<3 also WHAT'S THOSE NOODLES' NAME I WANNA KNOW- Are you feeling okay now, though? XD
My days were nice!!! Felt as if I had been hiding three bodies, but I've been feeling better lately. We had online school yesterday so I'm excused from the errands for the half of the day, thankfully. But your messages make me very happy. Though I dont always feel like writing a response (or I get stressed because it doenst save) so very sorry for that😔
Ohh those look so pretty!! I'd totally join to just look at them. The colors are so nice🥺 it looks like one of our olympiad prep slides, though better. I dont have the screenshots sadly😩 Either way I really love the little details like the squiggly thingies or the Ж .... they seem unnecessary but the energy changes a lot without them hehe
I really hope they will be🥺 that'd mean a lot to me. And I'm also really hopeful itll work out. I really don't wanna disappoint my family, which is literally just one person. The less people there are, the more it hurts, you know?
Yeah, that scene meant so much to me!! I dknt remember much, but I was very happy they said something like that, because I've been told being a translator wont work out for me. Now look at me, I'm about to tell them to fuck themselves<3 I was also so surprised to see Laurent know that many languages ..... I aspire to be like him😩 And honestly, I havent though so deep of that but you opened my eyes and now I'm about to float off into the next universe😭 dont apologize though, its very cute!!!♥︎♥︎
Heheh, I guess you're right.. every single anime INTJ is a silent sexy mastermind and I love them . ... YEAH every single time I see a passing couple i cry because I dont have anyone 😡💔 and sometimes when I see people doing something amusing (which includes people failing cuz I'm evil) I just imagine one of the characters doing that and I smile all the way xD Honestly, I'd sell my father on black market for a single day with one of them:( though that may sound like a really low price because his cigarette filled lungs wouldnt cost a lot... I sound like my 7th grade self again I'm so sorry
BAHQHHANEJWJD I HOPE THEY WERE EMBARRASED. I HOPE THEY FELT AWKWARD AND OTHER PEOPLE DID TOO, they deserve it. Like, learn your lesson bitch, it's been a year!
Yeah!!! I love mayo, not to the point where I would gulp it down from the package, but it does make dishes taste good. Same, soggy cheese on itself sounds like a dish served in the ninth circle of hell. You should try nuts in honey!! Like, just straight up dip them in honey. Sounds weird, and it doesnt always taste NEJFJKSKF (depends on the honey)but I think it's worth trying xD Walnuts are the best with honey I think
That was so funny ... TOO FUNNY, I LAUGHED FOR LIKE . 3MINUTES STRAIGHT and I do not laugh when I'm tired. You really are special 😭😭😭😭 cheesy ... HAHRNFJJSF
I'm so sorry for being a bully like that but it's so funny how you left a single U there . Its so mysterious, was it in purpose? Or were you lost in the excitement if messaging me?
I was one of those people, honestly 😭 but mostly because I wasnt aware of its political condition, I guess. Maybe theres more than just politics that's bad about US, but honestly, it has more opportunities than this hellfire. Though now I'm more into Norway and Japan. Really wanna travel there :(
Heheh, yeah, we never really show off to strangers at first. I dont know what exactly I mean by we, but you get my point ♡ Good luck though!! I hope it goes well for you<3
Oh they looks so pretty!! They're really wonderful. Like bubblegum and cotton candy and literally anything sweet... it's so cute !!! And I totally agree, there isnt a bad yellow.
HAHAH, honestly, that reminds me of how there were 4 people with the same name in my class, and whenever the teacher did the attendance thing, they would all stand up. Teachers usually dont say the last names, so we always gotta ask which person they mean if theres more than one person with that name, so yeah.. That happened on accident at first, but then they just did it for trolling xD
OH MY GOD HES SO PRETTY? HES SO PRECIOUS?? HUHHH??? I gotta thank Kuro for this wonderful opportunity of sharing a name with someone like .... him🥺
Oh that's so cool!! Also, he has a boyfriend ... I really need to start reading xD it's so cute though! It sounds like such a good book, I'm glad you share a name with him, hehe!!
I also share my real name with one of the characters in a kids' show, and its SO ugly, I'm in pain. Every time my friends see one of those on TV they go
Tumblr media
Which is a pain in the ass, it's so embarrassing...........
Awh, okay!! I'm glad you love it, cuz I do too. Because it's your name.... cuz I love u. That was so lame PLEASEJWJDJSJF I HOPE YOUR DAY WAS GREAT !!! LOVE YOU

I’m not my brother! - part 1 (Hogwarts Mystery imagine -fem!reader)
Masterlist  (To view my Masterlist, visit my Tumblr page)
Words: 2k
A/N: I have rewritten the first part of I’m not my brother. I will not delete the old story (yet). I hope you enjoy this newer version. It used to be a story set somewhere during the third year, but I changed it to the fourth year. Hopefully I will also upload more different endings than I did with the older version.
Summary: ‘Oh, you are just like your brother’. Comments like that were getting on your nerves lately. It was like you weren’t your own person. No, you were just like Jacob. You were starting to get sick of it. You tried to stay calm whenever people compared you to your brother, but during Potions class it was getting pretty difficult to ignore all these snide remarks about you and your brother...
_______________________________________________________
No matter what you did in Hogwarts, you would always be compared to your brother. For example, your parents told you to be careful and asked you not to do things you will regret. They didn’t want you to go down the same path as your brother. What your parents told you wasn’t too bad, after all they were just looking out for you. You knew they didn’t want another tragedy in the family. Now Jacob is missing, they didn’t want to lose you as well. The Cursed Vaults were the reason your brother disappeared and you seemed to looking for the same things like Jacob. You could handle it to be compared to Jacob when your parents compared you two.
Unfortunately, they weren’t the only ones who compared you to Jacob. Even when you bought your wand you were compared to your brother. You felt sorry for your brother, but you weren’t sure if you would be able to find him. Jacob could be anywhere after all.
Once you got into your first year, you realized how many people were judgmental, because you were Jacob Y/L/N’s younger sister. Not only the students were judgmental, but the teachers were as well. Whatever you did, you would be compared to your brother. Did you do a great job at Charms? Well, you were just as talented as your brother. You failed brewing a potion? Well you are you as incapable as your brother was at Potions. Yeah, every teacher reminded you of that. It was starting to get on your nerves but didn’t do much about it. What could you do about it? Ask them to stop comparing you to Jacob? They probably didn’t always mean to compare you to him. Besides, you probably would get in trouble if you ask them to stop talking about you and Jacob. It also wouldn’t immediately change something and the other students would probably continue to keep comparing you to him anyways…
After four years of hearing things like that, you were feeling pretty fed up by it all. It was like no one saw you as Y/N. No, you were just Jacob Y/L/N’s younger sister, the one who was just as mad and deranged as Jacob was. Yeah, they saw you as a threat to ruin Y/H’s reputation even more, just like Jacob ruined Y/H’s reputation. They didn’t care how many House Points you collected, nothing mattered, because they just compared you to Jacob anyways. Things were usually worse when you had your Potions class… The class you had right now.
You were trying to focus on brewing potions when Merula was trying to insult you.
“You really are as mad as your brother, Y/L/N.” She said with a grin. “It’s quite obvious when I look at your mediocre brewing skills.”
You gritted your teeth and glared at her. “I’m not. Also, I’m doing pretty okay in Potions class.”
“Snape doesn’t like you though.” Merula rolled her eyes. “You and Jacob are definitely alike; you both are looking for the Cursed Vaults and your brother got into trouble because of the Cursed Vaults. Soon, you will be in trouble as well. I’m sure they will do just the same to you as they did to your brother.” She pretended like she was snapping a wand into two pieces.
“Shut up, Snyde!”
“What is up with all the noise?” Professor Snape said when he walked over to Merula and you. He looked pretty annoyed at you both, like he was ready to punish you for disrupting his class.
“Nothing, Professor.” Merula said with a small smile, trying to be innocent.
Snape immediately turned to you, raising an eyebrow at you. “Well, I suppose I could ask Miss Y/L/N what was going on. After all, you were the one who raised your voice just now.”
You were still feeling pretty annoyed, like you were on the verge of getting angry. You were certain you would lose House Points whether you would say the truth or not. It was like responding to him would be pointless at this point.
Rowan lightly tapped your shoulder and whispered. “Y/N, you should answer…”
“Be quiet, Miss Khanna.” Snape said, making Rowan quiet again. He looked at you waiting for an answer. “I’m pretty sure Miss Y/L/N can answer this herself.”
“Nothing, sir. It was nothing…” You mumbled.
“Of course not.” He muttered, rolling his eyes. “I suppose lying to other people also runs in your family, Miss Y/L/N. I remember when your brother did the same things in my class room.”
  That was the last straw.
“I’m not my brother…!” You shouted angrily, standing up.
Everyone in the classroom was quiet and looked at you. Even Snape looked surprised at your outburst just now.
“Excuse me…?” Snape asked, narrowing his eyes a bit when he looked at you.
“I’m not my brother.” You repeated. You didn’t care how angry or scary Snape looked at you right now. You were done with everyone comparing you to Jacob. “I’m not Jacob Y/L/N!”
“Sit down, Miss Y/L/N.” He said as calmly as possible. He looked like he was ready to give you detentions for life if you didn’t stop.
You didn’t cower in fear when he gave you that look. No, you just looked pissed off, like you were ready to continue shouting at him. “No, I will not sit down, Professor. Not before we all understand I’m NOT Jacob.”
Rowan once again tried to help you, grabbing the sleeve of your robes. “Y/N, calm down…”
You pulled your arm away from Rowan and shook your head. “No…! I will not calm down, Rowan.”
“Ten points from Y/H.” Snape simply said, hoping it would stop this outburst of yours.
“You were going to take points from my house no matter what I would do.” You laughed in disgust. “Just because Jacob Y/L/N happens to be my brother doesn’t mean I’m the same!” You shouted in anger before you stormed out of the class. You needed to get out of here… You had felt the tears welling up in your eyes and you didn’t want to break down in front of the class…
Everyone in the classroom was still quiet. They were shocked to see you have an outburst like that. Most people felt a bit sorry for you, even Merula. Although she would never admit she felt sorry for you in public. She would probably say something to you if she caught you somewhere alone. She knew she probably had gone too far this time and she felt obligated to apologize to you.
Rowan knew you didn’t like to be compared to your brother. She has been in the same class with you for the last four years. She has seen you flinch whenever someone compared you to your brother. She would definitely try to talk to you when she has the chance. After all, that’s what a best friend does, right?
Barnaby had seen everything as well. He was mostly surprised to see you so angry. He would never have thought to see you like that, especially in Potions class. You seemed to be pretty composed most of the time. You seemed to have patience. He could understand it wasn’t usual for you to have an outburst like that. He was a bit oblivious to the fact that you didn’t like it to be compared to your brother, but he never compared you to Jacob before. You were just Y/N after all.
Snape cleared his throat. “Let us continue.” He said before he began continuing his class. He was aware some people didn’t seem to be focussing a lot on their Potion. People seemed to be more eager to discuss about what just happened in class, talking about your outburst.
Although, the people you were friends or acquainted with seemed to be quiet. They weren’t focussing on their Potion either, just quietly thinking about what happened.
Snape just shook his head and knew he would probably have to review this Potion during the next class again.
Once the class was over, the word had spread already. Everyone seemed to be talking about your outburst during Potions class. Of course, Penny was one of the first people to hear about it. She felt bad for not realising how much you disliked being compared to your brother. She knew it sometimes caused trouble for you, but she never realised how awful you must have felt after years of being compared to your brother. After all, Jacob was a very sensitive topic…
When Tulip passed Merula in a hallway, she shot a glare at her old friend. She definitely wasn’t okay with what happened. Merula might have been her friend in the past, but if she just had shut up about your brother you probably wouldn’t have had an outburst in Snape’s class. She definitely didn’t blame you for having an outburst like that. She knew she would probably have done the same thing if she was in your position.
Ben could imagine how hard it was for you to be compared to your brother all the time. He knew he probably wouldn’t have liked it either, especially when people like Merula looked down on you because of it. Perhaps he could do something to help you, after all you have helped him a lot in the past four years. This could be the time to repay you for helping him all the time. You probably needed someone to talk to and he was ready to listen to you, whether you were angry, sad or just really annoyed about it.
Bill heard about the outburst you had in Potions class during his free period. He was surprised to hear you had been yelling at Snape to make him stop comparing you to Jacob. He never would have thought you would lose your composure like that. You usually seemed to be doing fine, but apparently you had been bottling your feelings up. He frowned a little, wondering if he could do something to make you feel a little better.
Charlie frowned when he heard people talking about your outburst. Some people made it seem like you did something rebellious. ‘Not many people would yell at Snape like that.’ He definitely didn’t think it was okay. You were definitely dealing with something and people seemed to be making up things about how tough you were for standing up against Snape. They didn’t even seem to care what you had said. If he could just check up on you, he definitely would try to help you calm down a little more.
 _________________
“Has anyone seen Y/N after class?” Penny asked when the group got together to talk about what happened.
Everyone shook their head, not knowing where you were at the moment.
“She didn’t seem to come to any other class we had today.” Rowan said honestly, looking even more concerned. “Maybe I should have gone after her when she stormed out of class.”
“I was too shocked to even do anything. I have never seen her so angry before.” Barnaby admitted.
“I think she just wasn’t able to cope with Snape’s remark after the things Merula said to her.” Rowan said honestly.
“Of course, Merula was the one who began making snide remarks about Jacob.” Tulip frowned. “Y/N’s outburst was bound to happen eventually. If it wasn’t today, she would probably have had an outburst like that another time.”
“Tulip is right. Y/N had bottled up all these negative feelings for a while now. It was just unfortunate it happened during Snape’s class.” Bill said honestly.
“It definitely is unfortunate… Snape already dislikes her. he probably wouldn’t like her more after this outburst.” Rowan pointed out.
“We should probably figure out where we can find Y/N now. She might not want to see us right now, but she probably needs someone to talk to.” Charlie said honestly.
“She probably is somewhere secluded. I mean, I wouldn’t like it when people walk in on me when I am upset about something.” Ben said softly.
“Ben is right, she would probably be somewhere secluded. Although, there are quite some secluded places at Hogwarts. Maybe we should split up to different secluded places, so we can find her more quickly.” Andre suggested.
“I think that’s for the best.” Tulip nodded.
“Well, all right. Let’s split up and find Y/N.” Rowan said determined.

In the end, not even the Progressive Bernie Base showing up for Hillary in larger numbers than her own supporters did for Obama in 2008, could prevent the inevitable. A massively flawed candidate who failed to electrify the Democratic base and make the case to Rust Belt voters- why she is the better option than the Populist candidate spraying out anti-trade rhetoric.
Blame whatever you want. The blame rests squarely on all of us. But there is so many lessons to learn from the 2016 Primary and General Election. Populism and Progressive policy became the central topic. Healthcare is a right. The ultra-rich are KING in America, and they must be reigned in. Primary process should be more fair. Flowery platitudes aren’t enough to generate excitement for the poor to turn out, etc.
Literally ZERO of these lessons were learned. Even in the face of an ACTUAL Corona-virus pandemic, with over 30 million unemployed, more and more uninsured at the time of writing this- the Democratic party has done nearly nothing to fix the problems from 2016. Actually, in all my shock- they’ve made them worse. The Democratic party pulled every string it could. Bent over backwards to not only stop Bernie Sanders, but stifle Progressives and our policy agenda. All in an orchestration to crown their nominee just years after a 2016 lawsuit said the DNC can meddle how ever they like in their own “Democratic process”. All to push a man who did next to no campaigning in any states past South Carolina. A man who didn’t actually work for your vote, but instead- coasted on “Hope and Change” establishment nostalgia, for when times weren’t so chaotic.
So for pragmatism sake, let’s push all that aside for just one moment. We can debate all day about how “fair” Joe Biden’s path to the Democratic Nomination has been. But let’s view Biden on his own merits for his candidacy’s sake. What’s the incentive for Progressives to vote for Joe? Well- unless you’re sticking to the concept of the very first paragraph of this article, the answer is: There isn’t one.
If Hillary Clinton were a flawed candidate, Biden may just be the worst nominee in history. A long history of terrible behavior including coddling racists, racist behavior, repeated threats at slashing the safety net, warmongering for a devastating Iraq war that’s helped kill endless innocent civilians all based on a lie, the nomination of Justice Thomas and controversial treatment of Anita hill, the Obama administration’s failure to even pass a Public Option with a Super Majority government, while pushing a healthcare plan that was little more than barely a small step in the right direction.
Now- Biden stands as the presumptive Democratic Nominee, and with a sizable Progressive Bernie Base up for grabs, what has Joe Biden done to earn our vote?
Answer: Nothing. Well, at least nothing significant.
Three items come immediately to mind on what Joe Biden is doing to “reach left”.
1: Joe wants to lower the Medicare age to 60. By comparison, Hillary Clinton wanted to lower it to as low as 50.
2: Joe Biden wants to eliminate student debt for those making under $125K. By comparison, Bernie Sanders wanted to eliminate it universally.
3: Nebulously- Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have created “working groups” on various policy issues focusing on education, criminal justice, climate change, immigration, the economy, and health care policy. As of yet, nothing has come of these “groups” on policy.
As the Primary was coming to a close, I as a Progressive- was completely open to Joe moving (not reaching) left on policy positions.
Overwhelmingly, if you ask Sanders supporters what they care about most, it’s Policy.
What will you do for the underprivileged working class people of America?
What will you do for my children and grand children facing a Climate Change future?
What will you do for your Mass Incarceration mess, ending the drug war, legalizing Marijuana, and freeing non-violent drug offenders?
What will you do for the upwards of 45K people who die each year because health care is not affordable?
The 67% of American bankruptcies being due to health care costs?
BUT. Sanders supporters also believe in principle. Consistency. History. Fighting for change. Decency. Human rights. We’re also majority young people (a group Joe Biden did not do well with). Perhaps these things could be talked out. But now there’s a bigger elephant in the room. One that establishment Democrats and Joe’s supporters are ignoring.
Joe Biden was credibly accused of rape.
Democrats spent months yelling about “Believing Women” during the Kavanaugh Confirmation hearings. Rightfully fighting for Christine Blasey Ford’s story to be heard- knowing it would be a fruitless task at the hands of a twisted Senate Republican majority. Now, establishment Democrats are making the media rounds with Biden campaign talking points with denials and every attempt to downplay Tara Reade as not a credible accuser, even as several corroborations of her story have surfaced, 1 of which was an archive video of who Tara Reade alleges is her mother discussing the issue with Larry King on CNN in 1993. Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s campaign has it’s surrogates and supporters on news networks shielding Biden. Nancy Pelosi downplays the accusations, Kirsten Gillibrand (who helped cancel Al Franken) is downplaying the accusations. Alyssa Milano, prominent #MeToo voice, who made a performative appearance at the Brett Kavanagh hearings, now wants to “change the rules” on the movement in favor of a sort of ‘Due Process’- a process that many perpetrators cancelled by #MeToo never got, in favor of protecting Joe Biden.
What this means to me is that Democrats think it’s perfectly fine to be selective on who and who doesn’t deserve to be heard and taken seriously, based on who’s on your team. As if it should be that easy to just shed your principles like Snake skin, hypocritically protecting one predator, while gunning for another that doesn’t fit with you politically.
In 2016, I was perfectly fine voting for the “lesser evil”. Now that the party has loudly stated that not only does my values, principles, and policy demands for the poor and sick of America, not matter- I should fall in line with a candidate that has helped endless innocent people die overseas with America’s imperial military reach, helped endless people die at home because they cant afford a doctor, said that he has “no empathy” for young people- the same young people that have to live and suffer under the conditions of Climate Change while he’s dead and gone, sexually assaulted and violated multiple women, said that nothing will fundamentally change for the same rich people who are now gaining BILLIONS under pandemic conditions while their workers get sicker, if they’re even employed at all.
Moderate establishment Democrats and voters tell me that Trump is the number one threat. That we need to “vote blue no matter who”. Just how “blue” is Joe biden? Just how dissimilar is Joe Biden and his supporters from Trump and his following? For all of the cries of the “angry Bernie Bros” online, I see countless accosting and abusive discourse examples from Biden supporters calling any dissenters “Russian Bots”, or “MAGA Hats”. Being told that I’m somehow a Trump voter by default, for not immediately supporting Biden. All this when all I’ve ever seen from “the Bernie Bros” is aggressively holding smear artists to facts and truth in a thick environment of misrepresentation of Bernie Sanders and his platform.
So- Why shouldn’t Progressives vote for Joe Biden?
This Democratic party doesn’t give a damn about you. Nor does it care about Progressive policy. The party and its supporters spend all this time, smearing Sanders and his base as “Not democrats”, angry “socialists who want free stuff”, “How are you gonna PAY for it?!” etc etc, all while claiming to support SOME form of our policy, and then dropping it the second it doesn’t feel politically advantageous. This party threw everything it could into stopping YOU. With tactics like voter suppression, using a silly app suspiciously funded and supported by shady actors in Iowa, taking WEEKS to give final results, running Super PACs against Bernie and our movement, fear-mongering about Bernie when he did win states, gas lighting the public on “elect-ability”, using a literal pandemic against Bernie to guilt him into dropping out while attempting to blame him for continued spread of COVID-19, while they sent voters to the polls and we didn’t.
And after zero policy concessions, zero good will, repeated demands we fall in line after more than a year of being slammed and disrespected, showing up for Hillary Clinton and then being blamed for her loss anyway, which is inevitable again if Joe loses? Are we just going to keep allowing that? Just how long do we have to hold our noses, voting for Moderate do-nothing lite Republicans who would sooner see you die, than provide you affordable and universal healthcare, because a Billionaire would stand to lose money. Even NOW, during a Pandemic this party has done next to NOTHING to secure the livelihoods of American citizens, as more and more die, get furloughed, and cant pay their bills. All while Trump and Republicans take credit for pitching more common sense plans (even though they want to send us all back to work/school to feed the machine).
This- is the “resistance” party? THIS is the best we can do? Performative rage against a fascist clown while propping up an accused rapist warmongering corporatist with cognitive decline and previous racist tendencies? THIS is what the party keeps telling us we better support or be shamed as somehow supporting the “bad guy”?
Listen, #NotMeUs- this will never stop. This party will NEVER stop using us as a prop for our ideas and passion, then throwing us under the bus when they think they no longer need us. They cannot continue to be allowed to drag us further to the right with guilt trips and shaming. They will NEVER take you seriously unto you take serious action. We’ve been preaching about “action” this whole campaign. Why should that “action” stop in the ballot box? Have some foresight for just a moment and envision how this plays out in future elections, unless you stand up and make them WORK for your vote.
I, for one will not vote for Joe Biden. But I wont shame you for your vote, no matter who it’s for. Why? Because the party did a terrible job at earning -your- vote. I’d maybe only criticize you if you don’t show up at all. There’s so many down-ballot candidate who need support. Even if you leave the President box unchecked, at least show up for the other races.
But consider: There are other options that have been stifled for way too long. Perhaps its time we give them a shot, no? Green Party is running Howie Hawkins and a platform that is much closer to our principles that Biden would ever try for. Justin Amash just jumped into the race if you’re a little more on the Libertarian side. Jesse Ventura is also discovering running on the Green ticket as well. Just imagine Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura on the debate stage with Donald Trump? Popcorn for DAYS.
In order for us to be taken seriously, we must prove that we’re capable of holding the party accountable. Not voting for them is the ultimate accountability, and you get to keep your principles intact.
Now- to the ultimate argument you’d inevitably get: “You would be helping Donald Trump secure 4 more years”.
My response? You don’t have to bare the blame for that. You wont be at fault for Joe Biden losing any more than those who chose not to vote at all. It’s on the party to earn these votes. That’s how elections work. If you hate the candidate and don’t feel good about them as a person, why is it your responsibility to put them in office? To me- one of the most personal things a person has, is their vote. Not their dollars, or their Tweets. It’s checking a box for the person YOU chose to represent you. If that person doesn’t believe in hardly anything you personally believe in- why is it that they deserve your vote, again? How is it that they’re are somehow entitled to that vote? They don’t, and they aren’t. I’m looking at you too, Republicans.
In closing…
Progressives, I’m sorry to break it to you but- Medicare For All is not on the ballot. Taxing the rich is not on the ballot. Ending corruption and crooked politicians is not on the ballot.
But- ending a terrible two-party system IS on the ballot. Taking your personal vote back, IS on the ballot. In my opinion- the only wasted vote, is the one you were demanded in giving up to what you don’t believe in.

🖋 I'm trying to get into medschool (I have a gap year rn) and I go to those extra chemistry lessons. I never liked chemistry as a subject cuz I had bad teachers, but this teacher is very good at what she does and explains things very well. But every week Im just so scared to go there cuz I'm afraid I won't know something or make a mistake. She's v popular and it was hard to get lessons with her, and Im scared she might not want to give me lessons anymore since I make a lot of mistakes
Continued: 🖋 I'm genuinely so scared of going to those lessons, it's giving me so much anxiety to the point where I think about this one lesson for the whole week in advance. I also tend to leave the studying for the last minute cuz I really really hate doing her chem sheets and, generally, studying for those lessons with her, so i postpone it as far as I can. Getting another teacher isn't an option unfortunately. Idk how to cope with this, do you maybe have some pointers? Thank u very much in advance
Jennie: See, this mindset is one of many reasons why I don’t like the school system. School places so much emphasis on testing and grades that it doesn’t give many opportunities to make mistakes, because if you get some questions wrong on a test you could be told you’re ‘failing’. In reality, making mistakes is an important part of learning - if you don’t risk sharing information that turns out to be wrong, you might never be told the right information! But this obsession with passing and failing leads to students feeling scared to even try learning something in the first place, in case they get something wrong.
Have you ever had a teacher say something like “there’s no such thing as a stupid question”? That’s an important mindset for a teacher to have. It’s important to remember that your students are not going to know things that might seem obvious to you, because if they knew as much as you, the teacher, does, they wouldn’t need to take the class! So, if your teacher is a good teacher (which it sounds like she is), then she is going to expect you to not know things (because that’s why you’re taking the class), and she isn’t going to judge you or kick you out of the class for getting something wrong. That’s the whole point of classes, to teach you things that you don’t already know.
I suspect that leaving the studying for this class to the last minute is only going to increase your anxiety, so next time you have homework, try doing the opposite of what your anxiety is telling you to do. For example, if feeling anxious makes you want to avoid doing homework and put it off until the last minute, doing the opposite and doing your homework as soon as you get it could decrease your anxiety. If feeling scared makes you want to stay quiet in class, making the effort to raise your hand and contribute could help you feel more comfortable in class. Good students aren’t students who get everything right all the time. Good students are those students who make an effort to actively participate in the class, ask and answer questions, take guesses, ask for help when they’re stuck, and complete homework. You don’t have to be perfect. Being a good student is just about showing that you’re interested, and showing that you’re trying.

There's a huge misconception of kids. People believe they don't notice stuff and that most of the time they're oblivious, but they're not.
Most of the kids notice what's happening around them. Like for example Roman, who notice the way his dad would smile a little bit wider when he picked them up from school, or the way Mr. Logic stay more in the school just to said goodbye to his dad.
Or Alex, who even if he didn't comment, he noticed the fidgeting in Morality's fingers when he mentioned something related to that class or how Mr. Sanders would glanced at him for few seconds.
But, at the end of the day, they were kids... weren't they?
When you're a workaholic dedicated father, you don't date. There's actually a moment where "kissing" and "face-sucking" means the same.
It had passed two weeks since the talk between the adults and though the kids still fought a lot, they were behaving better. Just a little…
Marion pulled over the car, noticing the kids were already at the entrance of the school, with nonetheless than with (his) their favorite teacher next to them. Though something was odd.
"Oh no," he got off the car, "What they do this time?"
"You seriously don't have faith on me." Alexander huffed, crossing his arms.
"I have enough faith in you to do a faith palm," Morality laughed while the kids rolled his eyes, "What happened Logan?"
"Nothing really, he just wanted your cellphone but we don't know it." Roman blurted as if it was the most obvious thing.
Both adults blushed faintly, while the younger kid, once again, rolled his eyes.
Logan fidget a little, not knowing exactly what to do or where to look, "It's—umm you know, better for the kids. If they ever need you I can called you directly."
"Sure. It's that." Alexander rolled his eyes.
"If you keep doing that Alex, your eyes will fall." Morality scolded, then turned his attention to the teacher, "Sure, it's..." and proceeded to tell him, they quickly changed numbers and soon the family disappeared.
Three days passed when Marion received the first text. It was a photo, of a drawing presumably Alex did. It was just a landscape, with a rainbow and some birds. It was cute.
Then it was the photo of a Roman with a black eye. Morality gasped terrified…
Text Message:

Text: Roman tried to tear apart the drawing of Alexander who got mad. They get into a fight. Roman is on the infirmary right now, Alexander is talking with the principal. Just so you could get here in time.
Morality sighed.

Text: It was meant to happened. They haven't fight in a lot time. Thanks for the warning tho ;).
Morality blocked the phone.
"And here I was waiting to get a free coffee." He took his cardigan, and went to his car.
Logic put his hand on the shoulder of Alexander, they were waiting outside the principal's office. Apparently when a kid used force against other kid it's bad.
"It's okay Alexander. Marion won't be mad." He said gently. Oh yeah, Marion was already talking with her. "What I meant it's that he will be mad, but it's not irretrievable."
"I don't like being call Alexander." He mumbled, and Logic has to lean in order to listened it.
"It's going to be okay, Alex." And he smiled, squeezing his shoulder.
"It won't. I screw everything up and finally my da—Morality will realize I'm not good enough." But all he did is nod.
Marion really hated formality. He also worked with kids, he didn't understand why teachers and principals had the need to make themselves feel scary. They should be trustworthy, not scary.
He nodded not really paying attention to whatever the lady was saying. He knew Alex had issues regarding rage but he was working on them.
"All I'm saying it's that Alexander is a little problematic."
Wait, what?
"He's not problematic. He's a kid who has been through a lot. Besides, they're brothers! It's normal for them to fight!"  He didn't mean to raise his voice, or did he?
"Foster-brothers," she corrected, and he rolled his eyes almost unconsciously. "And that's the point I wanted to arrive."
"Good. Me too. They're brothers. Bye-bye." He was about to stand up when he heard the teacher said,
"Don't you think it's time to give up?"
"Excuse me?" He raised his eyebrows and sat again.
"I mean. Alexander hasn't make a single progress ever since he entered the school. He does not have friends. He fights back to all the teachers. You see now what happened! He punched his adoptive brother just because he tried to tear his drawing!" She found herself almost shouting.
"Miss, they are not broken toys who can be returned just because you get bored. You can't give back one just because! They are actual human beings with feelings! Alexander is doing great, the fact that you and your stupid school can't notice it it's not his problem! And guess what?!? Maybe you won't notice because you are so engrossed in create jocks and perfect students that you won't noticed anything else!" He was enraged. How dare she? How dare she speak like that about a freaking kid?! His kid nonetheless!
"All I'm saying…"
"Is that you clearly do not possess tolerance, intelligence and the skills to be running a school!" He shouted, not even caring the people outside that door could hear him. "Thank you miss, god day."
He stormed out.
Roman was holding an ice package on his eye, while moaning in pain. "It hurts! I've never been in so much pain!"
"Oh, I can help." Alex add quickly, earning a glare from both figures in front of him. Marion was checking his eyes, turning his face from left to right.
"I think you both need to say something." Marion said after making sure his dramatic kid was okay.
"I'm sorry I didn't hit you harder." "I'm sorry I couldn't tear it completely."
"Kids..." he growled, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Alex's eyes widened for a moment in terror, he turned his eyes to the ceiling before mumbling. "I didn't mean to hit you so hard, I'm sorry I hurt I you."
Roman’s eyes did the same and Morality shoot him a look, making him talk. "Your art didn't suck. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings." He mumbled.
Marion actually beamed at that.
It was night when he heard the tossing and whining. He silently made his way to Alex's room.
Alexander was distressed in his dream. He was sweating and his mouth was opened, as if he was trying to scream but the air wasn't enough.
"Alex, sweetie. Everything is okay. Dad is here." He gently shook him, waiting for his son to wake up. He glanced at the Alex's phone resting on the night table.
2:30 am.
Alex woke up, choking a scream. "It's fine baby. I'm here." He took the kid into an embrace and felt the tears of his son wetting his shirt.
"It's fine. You're safe, baby. It's okay." He continued saying positive things to his kid, while rocking and gently humming a song.
When he thought, Alex was asleep, he would gently try to tug him in bed, but he would hold tighter. "Please don't go."
"I'm here. I'm here."  He kissed his forehead, "I won't go baby."
It was about 5:00 am when he finally managed to get out of the room of his son. He went quickly to checked on Roman, just because.
He was snoring softly, the ice package next to him and the phone on the floor.
He snapped a picture of his kid, and went back to his room.
He hadn't planned on going back to sleep, he couldn't. He could just work or cook.
Baking would be awesome!
And so, he was about to went to the kitchen when his phone rang.
Logan cursed himself after the fifth 'peeep'. Of course, Marion would be asleep! Only and idiot like himself would called someone else at this hour!
"Hulk's deli. You order, we smash." He heard someone at the other line.
"Marion?"
"That would be me, what's up Logan?"
"Nothing. I was. Sorry to bother you, I probably woke you up."
"Not really. Alex had a bad dream so I wasn't even asleep."
"That's why I called!" He said excitedly, "How are them? How are you? The principal is a jerk..."
"Oh yeah, she is. We're fine, thanks for asking Logan." He waited a minute before adding, "You? I hope the kids didn't cause you any trouble."
"Nah, not really..."
"Soooo... Have you ever wonder why flamingos sleep with one leg up?"
And so, they continue talking until 7:00 am.
No regrets.
It was breakfast when Alex entered the kitchen, noticing that Roman was already eating his cereal.
"Morality, have you seen my hoodie? I don't find it in my room."
"You're not going to school Alex." The kid frowned, hating when Marion get all protective.
Yeah, he had a bad dream? So, what?
"What? why?!? I'm the one who was hit. I should be the one resting."
"He's suspended. See, that actually happens when you hit other kids!" He snapped at both kids.
"But he's not other kid! He's my brother!" He yelled back.
"Who happens to be a kid!" Even though his face was serious he couldn't hide the excitement out of his voice.
He acknowledged his brother for the first time.

FEATURE: Ghana’s failure in youth football: The growth we need
Poor pitches with no touch of green in sight, No flood lights or lamp poles, so they play till the night. And no touchlines, just their imagination of where to call it quits. Yes, the bumpy pitches make control difficult when the balls take flight, But the tenacity and strength they build makes them commit. Essien, Muntari, Appiah; yes we admit, Grassroots football was helpful but it’s now pointless.   Now, it’s difficult to be scouted and it makes me hopeless, I wanted to play in the top tier and make mummy speechless but now I’m helpless. Some academies gave me an opportunity but I had to support my family, Picking an injury would have been a calamity so Mummy said “focus on reality”. She made me believe I was chasing a “fantasy”. Yes, I should have tried, but who was I kidding! I had to choose a path that was more certain, Education and football couldn’t find a middle ground. With this trade-off, I had to choose one that was sound Maybe if a better talent development strategy was launched, I could have been the shining light the Black Star needs. Some context:
There are numerous problems in Ghana’s football industry today. From lack of professionalism to administrative issues, to dire financial problems. These problems are affecting the performance of the football leagues and the national teams in international competitions. Ghana’s best performance from her youth national teams dates as far back as 2009 (i.e. Winning the U-20 World Cup in Egypt). Hence we have a lot of foundational work to do.
The neglect of grassroots football (commonly called colts football in Ghana) over the years has crippled the image of the Black Stars and the best clubs in Ghana’s premier league.
As it is impossible to ignore a flat tire, so it is impossible to ignore youth national teams. The words of the poetic piece above highlights the depth of this argument.
For my undergraduate thesis, I interacted with some football stakeholders. I collated data from retired coaches and players to grassroots coaches and players, to help investigate how youth football can be improved in Ghana.
This post will explore the problems from the perspective of the youth football players I interacted with.
Some of the main problems the colt team players battle with include; the worries and drawbacks of “football age”, the trade-off between schooling and a pro-career, and poor training infrastructure.
I gathered these problems from interacting with 10 players across 5 colts teams; Great Corinthians, F.C Glory, Hope Soccer Academy and Biribi (all colts teams in Accra).
Football Age
I witnessed a conversation between a colts team player and a scouting manager from an academy, during an exhibition match earlier this year.
“How old are you?” the Scout asked. “I am 12” said the young boy. “Are you sure?” “I know your Headmaster, if I go to your school and they tell me something different I will sack you!”, the Scout said. The young boy afraid to lose his only shot said, “please I am 14.”
Lying about your age to benefit from opportunities is prevalent in many underdeveloped countries because of poor documentation and accountability. Too prevalent in Africa that, FIFA introduced MRI scans in 2009 to help identify which players were qualified to participate in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations which took place in Tanzania.
In football, age is very important. Players who indulge in this fraudulent act do so to outperform younger opponents in age-restricted competitions, and help them attract club contracts.
According to one of the colts team coaches I interacted with, academy scouts and foreign club scouts are mostly looking for players between the ages of 8–15. Therefore, when the players are above 18, they become a “burden” to their coaches. A burden because such players are usually not attractive to scouts, hence they cannot be traded. The coaches then try to fix the players in local league teams in the lower divisions.
From the data I gathered, most players easily pass off as younger than their actual age because of imbalanced nutrition in their diets. Notwithstanding our poor culture of documentation.
This has cost some “right-aged” children the opportunity to be scouted even when they tick all the right boxes. Luckily, some players are registered with colts teams at the regional level, hence it is easy to refer to their records. That is a good step by the FA. Yet more work needs to be done.
With regards to the size of the pitch, ball size, number of field players, the distance between the goal posts, match duration and many other rules concerning the game, may differ from different age categories (i.e. U8’s, U10’s, U12’s, U13s, U16s U18s and Seniors (18+)).
For example, U7s in England do not have strict referees officiating their games, they do not have to face the disappointment of an offside or a poor goal kick from the goalie, they get 2 attempts to correct a foul-throw and more interestingly they play 5 a-side for 10 minutes a half with unlimited substitution of players. This sounds fun and structured right?! That is what organisation looks like.
In England, there are development matches and competitive matches. An U7s game falls under development matches. The focus is on learning basic skills in football such as passing in close spaces, decision-making, increased attentiveness and increased ball-time. The objective usually does not include “the number of goals scored”.
This ties in with the idea of some colts teams using one brick as a goal post with no goalie, or slippers/stones as a goal post with no goalies.
From what I observed during my research, this is mostly not the case in Ghana. A 12-year-old could be playing against an 8-year-old. In terms of physicality and skill they are most likely not on the same level and it makes evaluations biased and inefficient.
The “inescapable” trade-off
If you are a Ghanaian and you want to make the most of your education and football talent, especially when you are not well connected or “lucky”, you will have to choose between the possibility of dedicating money and time to successfully secure a football career, or focus on schooling for a more certain future.
Considering the special attention young footballers require in developing the fundamental skills a footballer needs, Ghana’s current educational system is not supportive of youth football development.
Most students in Ghana spend 8–9 hours in school from Monday to Friday. Several students in the rural areas support their parents’ trades before and after school. Also, some students in the rural areas must travel long distances to attend school. Others face both problems and discouragement from their parents about their football dreams. Though parents are aware of the success stories of some football stars, they believe the chances are very rare.
Though most colts team coaches encourage their players to go to school, they hesitate to insist when the children’s parents cannot afford. Thanks to Free-SHS, the players can now afford to attend school. Nevertheless, in cases where the location of their schools is far from their training grounds, the players are unable to consistently attend training sessions.
Additionally, most parents in the informal sector would want their children to support them with house chores and their family trades after school. This makes it difficult for young talents to get the attention they deserve from their coaches. How then can we get the next Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah or Asamoah Gyan?
But are the parents to be blamed?
Some of the players are made to believe that when they make it, education will not matter. Hence, most players quit school after Junior High School and train intensively with their coaches hoping to be scouted to Europe.
From the qualitative research I conducted, some grassroots coaches scout for players across Ghana and camp them away from the children’s parents. One of these teams is Great Corinthians at Abokobi. Some responsible coaches create partnerships with private schools to provide education to their players. Hence, they call themselves “mini academies”. When the players in these mini academies fail to be scouted in football trials or “exhibition matches”, the coaches feel indebted to the children’s parents. The coaches then try to fix the players in local league teams in the lower divisions. As we know, the local league clubs are not well-funded. This pushes most players to take up multiple jobs with the aim of earning a little above their cost of living.
One of the scandalous issues I discovered was that young players had to pay “a small fee” to be enrolled in some football academies in Ghana, after they displayed exceptional skills during their trials or exhibition matches.
From a personal experience in High School, during inter-school competitions, I had to miss classes while my colleagues studied ahead. This trade-off will continue to exist if the relevant stakeholders do not find a well-fortified bridge between education and football talent development.
Poor Training Infrastructure:
In an interview with a retired goalkeeper of the Black Stars, he stated that, “investing heavily in the national teams has affected youth football in the country and the narrative has to be changed to improve football at the grassroots level”. I cannot argue with that.
With the increasing rate of developmental and real estate projects in our communities, the availability of pitches or unoccupied lands are very limited.
The needed infrastructure; quality football turf/fields, top-notch training facilities and stadiums that attract tourists.
It is difficult for colts teams to have access to these infrastructure especially when the local clubs cannot afford such “luxury”. Though some colts teams are funded by foreign scout teams, they still lack some basic but modern football training equipment and accessories like agility equipment, soccer tennis sets, rebounders, crowd barriers, pop up goals and the speed chute.
The amount of sprinting in the English Premier League has increased by 50% in the last 10 years. The matches are infused with high intensity sprinting and increased physicality. The new direction of elite football requires players to have stronger muscles and a higher recovery rate which makes them accelerate and decelerate quickly. This requires special training sessions to suit the individual differences of players. Hence the need for these “modernised” accessories to remain competitive on global grounds.
This is the core problem out of the 3 problems stated above, which limits the progress of Ghana’s youth football. In the interim, I think more investments should be made in the youth teams as compared to the senior national teams.
Some young talents are lucky to be scouted to European clubs through academies. The greater number who do not make the cut, should be most likely to get an opportunity to play in the youth national teams and consequently make up the senior national team. Unfortunately, these local players do not get access to premium training facilities for talent development. Making them unattractive to national team coaches.
Some of these players become a burden to society as most of them do not complete school, hence cannot get descent well-paid jobs. It contributes to a big vicious cycle.
It might sound cliché, but if the foundation is weak, the building can only go as high. Therefore, the Football Association and relevant parties need to seriously consider a talent development strategy, which incorporates honing football skills and providing quality education. This will benefit everyone. People may guess that we should adopt an academy system. Frankly, that is not far from the right path.
In subsequent posts, I will explore more problems grassroots teams face from the different perspective of football stakeholders in Ghana, and how I believe Ghana’s youth football can be elevated to everyone’s benefit.

Threaten to fail students because of their accent? We'll see what tenure can do for you.
Saw this posted in a Facebook group earlier today, figured I'd post it here. I'm not too sure about sources, since obviously on Facebook people's names and informations are accessible. But I'll type the text out below.
STORY START:
My english Professor threatened to fail these two international kids last week because she couldn’t understand them when they spoke..... they came in with their lawyers today and said that they’re suing the school :/
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Additional info as requested
It’s an English/public speaking class and last class the professor said something along the lines of “I can’t understand anything that you’re saying so I can’t pass you” to which the student says “ sorry, english is not my first language and I’m having difficulty with the proper pronunciations. I can type my presentation and give it to you” and the professor just said “I can’t pass you”
Anyways.... today they came to class with 8 lawyers and they played the recording of the incident in front of the professor. Whole class was shook and class was dismissed after 10 mins.
I’m kinda friends with the fobs so hopefully I’ll get their story next week or whenever. 🔥🔥A lot of comments on their accents. Honestly their accents aren’t that bad. Like if you actually tried to focus on what they’re trying to say then you’d understand them. All international students have to pass an English test or something so it’s not like they can’t speak English.🔥🔥
⚠️⚠️⚠️ UPDATE 2
So there are 2 students. “Girl” and “Guy”. Girl was the one giving the presentation and she’s super low key and wears non branded clothes and bags the heck she drives a Toyota but just found out that her dad a HUGE real estate mogul in Beijing (old money). She works very hard to improve her English and spends a lot of time with tutors and in the library. The guy’s family is new money and his family is involved in international electronics or something like that. Professor said the same thing to him while he was presenting. Long story short both of their families combined without a doubt have a net worth of in the hundred millions if not more. The girl told the situation to her dad who said “our family cannot take that type of discrimination and disrespect. I’ll have someone send you a list of the best academic lawyers and I don’t care if you hire 50, 100, 1000, or even 10000 but we can’t take this disrespect.” She told me her dad was fuming mad like this guy was about to fly across the ocean and give the professor a piece of his mind. The guy has an electronics/tech empire to run wen he graduates so he isn’t going to risk an F and getting his ass kicked by his parents
⚠️⚠️⚠️ UPDATE 3 Class is cancelled this week
⚠️⚠️⚠️ UPDATE 4 Class cancelled again
⚠️⚠️⚠️ UPDATE 5 I just found out that professors can be “fired” even with tenure.
So pretty much what happened was that when the students/lawyers brought up the situation the school said that they’d look into it but kind of shrugged it off so one of the internationals students said “if you don’t take this serious I can guarantee that I will make this viral and once that happens you will not get any international students from China. (Used the example of racist Dolce&Gabanna advertisement in China that caused the brand to pretty much get kicked out of all stores/malls in the country). We all know that universities bring in international kids because a majority of them have to pay higher tuitions etc and it’s just another way for the university to make money. The guy student also thought the school wasn’t taking it serious because they thought that it was something that they could sweep under the rug and have the school’s lawyers hold up on the legal front so he straight up told the school that money wasn’t an issue. So... professor got fired/resigned and in return the incident stays private. (But I guess at least on SAT it’s not...)

Accessible SVGs: Inclusiveness Beyond Patterns
About The Author
Carie Fisher is a digital accessibility developer and trainer who is passionate about inclusive front-end code and promoting diversity in tech. More about Carie …
We are fortunate to have robust patterns to choose from when optimizing accessibility in SVGs — but most people stop there, focusing on code compliance and not actual users and their needs. If true inclusiveness lies beyond patterns — what other factors should we consider when designing and developing accessible SVGs?
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVGs) became a W3C open standard in 1999 — back when the new tech hotness was the Blackberry phone, Napster first invaded college dorms, and the Y2K bug sparked fear in us all. Fast forward to our modern digital world and you’ll notice that while the other tech trends have waned, SVGs are still around and thriving. This is partly due to SVGs having a small footprint for such high visual fidelity, in a world where bandwidth and performance matter more than ever — especially on mobile devices and situations/locations where data is at a premium. But also because SVGs are so flexible with their integrated styles, interactivity, and animation options. What we can do with SVGs today goes way beyond the basic shapes of yesteryear.
If we focus on the accessibility aspect of SVGs, we have come a long way as well. Today, we have many robust patterns and techniques to help us optimize inclusiveness. This is true regardless if you are creating icons, simple images, or more complex images. While the specific pattern you decide to use might vary depending on your particular situation and targeted WCAG conformance level — the reality is, most people stop there, focusing on code compliance and not actual end-users and their needs. If true inclusiveness lies beyond patterns — what other factors should we consider when designing and developing accessible SVGs?
Styling And Animating SVGs With CSS
Why is it so important to optimize your SVGs? Also, why even put in the effort to make them accessible? Sara Soueidan explais why and also how to style and animate with CSS. Read article →
SVG Color And Contrast
The primary focus of accessible SVGs is screen readers compliance — which is only part of the issue and part of the solution. Globally, people with low-vision and color blindness outnumber the people who are blind 14:1. We are talking a staggering 546 million in total (246 million low-vision users plus 300 million colorblind users) vs. 39 million users who are legally blind. Many people with low-vision and colorblindness do not rely on screen readers, but may instead use tools like browser resizing, customized stylesheets, or magnification software to help them see what is on the screen. To these 546 million people, screen reader output is probably not as important to them as making sure the color and contrast is great enough that they can see the SVG on the screen — but how do we go about checking for this?
Tools And Checks
The very first step you should take when designing your SVG color palette is to review the WCAG color contrast ratio guidelines. While SVGs and other icons were exempt from color contrast ratio requirements not too long ago (when targeting WCAG AA compliance), the recent update to the WCAG 2.1 guidelines have made it so all essential non-text imagery must adhere to a contrast ratio of at least 3:1 against adjacent colors. By essential, it means if your SVG was to vanish, would it fundamentally change the information or functionality of the content? If you can answer “no,” then you are likely exempt from this guideline. If you can answer “yes” or “maybe,” then you need to make sure your SVG color contrast ratios are in check.
House icon used in demo with light outline vs dark outline — which is more accessible? (Large preview)
One example of an essential non-text image is an SVG icon used as a CTA button or link — such as we see in this home button. In this SVG, we see a line drawing of a house with no visual text. When we look into the code, we see the text “Home” in a span with a class called “sr-only” (screen reader only) on it. This class, along with the related CSS, hides the span text from sighted users, but not from AT users (this is just one example of an accessible image/graphic pattern).
This is a good first step, but choosing the correct SVG pattern is one piece of the puzzle — another piece is the color contrast between the icon and its background. Going back to the example, at first glance it seems like both SVGs could be accessible. Yet, when using a color contrast tool and testing the house icon against its background, we see the first SVG fails compliance with a color contrast ratio of 2:1 between the stroke (#8f8f8f) and the background (#cccccc), while the second SVG passes with a color contrast ratio of 3:1 between the stroke (#717171) and the background (#cccccc). By using the same accessible pattern, but taking an extra step and changing the stroke color to something a bit darker, we made our SVG more inclusive to a wider range of abilities.
To check for accessible color contrast ratios, there are many tools available for use. For a quick color contrast spot check, you could use the Contrast Checker in Chrome DevTools. For checking color contrast on non-coded designs, check out the Colour Contrast Analyser tool. And for a full-color palette review, A11y Color Palette is a great way to help you see which color combinations are the most accessible. Of course, make sure you try out a few of the tools and pick whatever works best for you and your team — the best tool is the one you actually use.
Light/Dark Mode
Beyond checking for color contrast ratios, you should also consider the increasingly popular and supported media query called @prefers-color-scheme that allows a user to choose a light or dark themed version of the website or app they are visiting. While this media query does not replace checking for color contrast ratios, it can give your users more choice when it comes to the overall experience of your website or app.
Allowing your users to choose their experience is always better than assuming you know what they want.
As with other media queries, to see the light/dark theme changes, the website or app developer must add additional code targeting the query. Going back to the house icon example from earlier, you can see in the following code that the SVG’s stroke, fill, and background colors are controlled by the CSS. Since these style elements are externally controlled and not hard-coded in the SVG markup, we can add a few extra lines of CSS to make the SVG work in a dark theme.
Light/default mode:

body { background: #cccccc; } .nav-home1 { stroke: #8f8f8f; } .nav-home2 { stroke: #717171; } #home-svg1, #home-svg2 { fill: #64b700; } #home-door-svg1, #home-door-svg2 { fill: #b426ff; }

See the Pen Light/Dark mode with SVGs by Carie Fisher.
As this example shows, setting up your designs to use CSS to control style elements means that creating a dark theme version of your SVG can be relatively simple. Conversely, if you have hard-coded styles into the SVG markup, you may need to reimagine your SVG in a way that allows CSS to have more control over the design. Or you may want to consider creating a completely new dark version of your SVG and swap out the light version when the theme preferences change. Just remember, if you do plan to show/hide different images based on the user mode, you also need to hide the nonvisible SVG from AT users!
Note: in this particular example, the default theme was already light so it made sense to also make that the default experience and build a dark theme for an alternate experience. Otherwise, if we started with a dark theme, we could have done the opposite making the dark theme the default experience and using @media (prefers-color-scheme: light) to create a light theme.
In the next example, we are looking at a more complex SVG with both light and dark mode versions via the @prefers-color-scheme media query. Our friend Karma Chameleon (in SVG form) has both a dark theme and a light/default theme. By changing your light/dark preference settings (Mac OS + Win OS dark mode settings) and navigating to a browser that supports @prefers-color-scheme media query, you can see the environment change. In the light/default mode, Karma Chameleon is sitting on a branch in a green forest surrounded by a fluttering red butterfly. In dark mode, she is sitting on a branch in space with a blue rocket zooming past. In both environments, her colors automatically change and her eyes move around.

Color And Contrast Accessibility
While the above examples are fun ways to show what you can do with color and contrast and the @prefers-color-scheme media query, there are some really great real-world reasons to consider adding a dark theme including:
Dark themes are helpful to people with photophobia, or light sensitivity. People with photophobia can trigger headaches and migraines when they view a website or app that is too bright.
Some people find the text on a website or app easier to read in dark mode while others might find lighter themes are easier to read — it essentially comes down to giving your user a choice and allowing them to set their preference.
Unlike some other color or contrast based media queries like @inverted-colors (currently only supported by Safari) and @forced-colors (developed by Edge/IE engineers with Chromium support coming soon), the browser support is pretty universal for @prefers-color-scheme — so this media query is useful out of the box today and it should be sticking around for awhile. Plus with the recent changes to MS Edge using Chromium under the hood, there is even more support for this media query going forward (R.I.P. -ms-high-contrast-mode).
Graph showing which browsers utilize the CSS at-rule: @media: prefers-color-scheme media feature. (Large preview)
SVG Animation
In conjunction with color and contrast, how your SVG moves on the screen is another aspect to consider when designing and developing with inclusiveness in mind. The WCAG motion guidelines are clear: non-essential moving, blinking, or scrolling information that starts automatically, lasts more than five seconds, and is part of other page elements must allow the user to pause, stop, or hide it. But why do we need this rule?
For some users, moving, blinking, or scrolling content can be very distracting. People with ADHD and other attention deficit disorders might be so distracted by your animated SVGs they forget why they even went to your website/app in the first place. While for other people, motion can trigger physical reactions. For example, people with vestibular issues can become nauSEO Companyus and dizzy when viewing movement. While others can be triggered to have a seizure when viewing content that flashes or is bright — a situation you obviously want to avoid.
While we all like being “delighted” with interesting website and app features — we need to strike a balance between being creative versus distracting (or harming) our users during their interaction with moving content.
Manual/Auto Stop
Since SVG animations, like other moving content, must not auto-play for more than five seconds, you must create a way for users to pause or stop the animation. One way to do this is to create a JS toggle button to play/pause the animation.
If your SVG is large or is the main feature of your website (e.g. animations that pop in and out as you scroll down a page) a pause/play button at the top of the screen might be a realistic option to control the entire experience of the page. If your SVGs are smaller in scale or related to user input (e.g. an animation happens when a user submits a form), a pause/play button might not be realistic for each individual image, so an alternative option is to code the animation to stop at five seconds vs. playing it on an infinite loop.
Reduced Motion
In addition to using a pause/play option or creating a finite animation loop, you may also consider adding @prefers-reduced-motion media query to address the animation in your SVGs. Similar to the light/dark theme example, the @prefers-reduced-motion media query checks the user’s settings for motion restrictions and then implements a visual experience based on their preference. In the case of @prefers-reduced-motion, a user can choose to minimize the amount of animation or motion they see.
In the following example, the animated SVG “writes out” a word as the page loads — this is its default animation. In the reduced motion version, the SVG is stationary and the word loads without the animation. Depending on the complexity of your SVG animation and how you want the reduced motion experience to look, the amount of extra code involved can vary.
See the Pen [Reduced motion with SVGs](https://codepen.io/smashingmag/pen/dyodvqm) by Carie Fisher.

Reduced motion:
The reduced motion version of the text script. (Large preview)
@media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) { #a11y-svg { animation: none; fill: #ff4b00; } }
Keep in mind, having @prefers-reduced-motion code in place is one step in making your SVGs more accessible, but you also need to consider the way the motion is reduced. For example, let’s say you create a slowed-down version of your SVG animation using @prefers-reduced-motion. However, the slower version is on an infinite loop so the animation lasts more than five seconds, which violates one part of the WCAG rules on motion. If you instead create a reduced motion version of your animated SVG that stops the animation at five seconds, then it would pass that part of the rule. This subtle code change equals two completely different user experiences.
In the next example, Karma Chameleon is back with a @prefers-reduced-motion media query and related code. By changing your motion settings (Mac, Win, Android, and iOS settings) and using a browser that supports @prefers-reduced-motion media query, you can see the animation change. In the light mode with reduced motion, Karma Chameleon in a forest with a stationary red butterfly. In dark mode with reduced motion, she is in space with a stationary blue rocket in the background. In both environments, her colors and eyes are also stationary, as the original SVG animation is completely removed.

Animation Accessibility
From an accessibility standpoint, there are some great reasons to consider limiting the movement on your screen or providing alternative animations in your SVGs including:
Less is more! Keeping your SVG animations simple for people with cognitive and attention disorders can help with your overall user experience. This is especially true for SVGs critical to the content or functionality of your website or app — such as navigation, buttons, links, or any animation triggered by user input.
Don’t make people sick! Some people with seizure, vestibular, and vision disorders can trigger physical reaction by motion in your SVGs, so please be responsible with your designs and code. Note: you should double-check any animated SVGs that could be problematic in the flashing/blinking area, by using the free Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool (PEAT) to ensure you don’t trigger seizures with your content.
Most major browsers now support @prefers-reduced-motion media query both on desktop and mobile devices — meaning that more people can limit their exposure to unwanted movement on their screens. Unlike the media query @prefers-color-scheme which has a lot of competitors, there is currently no other motion reducing media query available.
Graph showing which browsers utilize the CSS at-rule: @media: prefers-reduced-motion media feature (Large preview)
Wrapping Up
Color, contrast, and animation is at the heart of every SVG. Studies report that these visual elements hold intrinsic meaning, contribute to brand recognition, and are tied to a company’s perceived value — making SVGs a very large area where designers and developers can have a direct and immediate impact on our users.
But it is also important that we don’t just think of SVG accessibility as something to help “other people” — because who hasn’t found themselves in a situation where they have to battle glare on a device screen? Or you have a migraine and SVGs keep floating on and off the screen making you sick instead of “delighted”. Or maybe you visit a website in a low-light setting and the text is hard to read due to the gray-on-gray color scheme?
With the use of accessibility tools, WCAG guidelines, and the continued addition and support of new CSS media queries to allow for more choice, we can impact all people in a more responsible and inclusive way.
For true digital inclusivity is understanding that every single one of us can benefit from more accessible designs and code.

House icon used in demo with a light background (Large preview)
body { background: #cccccc; } .nav-home1 { stroke: #8f8f8f; } .nav-home2 { stroke: #717171; } #home-svg1, #home-svg2 { fill: #64b700; } #home-door-svg1, #home-door-svg2 { fill: #b426ff; }
Dark mode:

@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) { body { background: #333333; } .nav-home1 { stroke: #606060; } .nav-home2 { stroke: #7C7C7C; } }

House icon used in demo with a light background (Large preview)
body { background: #cccccc; } .nav-home1 { stroke: #8f8f8f; } .nav-home2 { stroke: #717171; } #home-svg1, #home-svg2 { fill: #64b700; } #home-door-svg1, #home-door-svg2 { fill: #b426ff; }
Dark mode:
House icon used in demo with a dark background (Large preview)
@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) { body { background: #333333; } .nav-home1 { stroke: #606060; } .nav-home2 { stroke: #7C7C7C; } }
See the Pen Light/Dark mode with SVGs by Carie Fisher.

Default motion:

.svg-color { stroke: #ff4b00; } #a11y-svg { stroke-linecap: round; padding: 0.25rem; stroke-dasharray: 1000; stroke-dashoffset: 0; -webkit-animation: dash 5s linear forwards; animation: dash 5s linear forwards; overflow: visible; font-size: 100px; height: 0; margin: 10rem 0 5rem; position: relative; } #a11y-svg-design { cursor: pointer; stroke-width: 2px; } @-webkit-keyframes dash { from { stroke-dashoffset: 1000; fill: transparent; } to { stroke-dashoffset: 0; fill: #ff4b00; } }
Reduced motion:
The reduced motion version of the text script. (Large preview)
@media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) { #a11y-svg { animation: none; fill: #ff4b00; } }

How much to insure audi 80 tdi (1.9 litre) ?
I am soon to be 17 and take my driving test, I have an audi 80 tdi being offered to me for 50 with the only fault being a broken break light. Uninsured Motorcycle Driver Question?
Recently a friend of mine wanted to purchase a motorcycle that he found a super great deal on. Because his credit is very average he asked me to purchase the cycle and he would make me payments plus interest. I agreed and took out a loan for the bike. However a few weeks later he decided it would be ok to take the bike out for a spin UNINSURED. He had a run in with several trick or treaters and their parents. Since it was an unlit road, they were in the middle, and he was going under the speed limit. The cops ruled it not his fault. However now two insurance companies are coming after me to subrogate the liabilities. Since he was the driver but I am the owner. What are my rights? Can they still blame him? Am I liable?""

I would discourage anyone from using Electric Insurance (EI). EI is a small company with a VERY LOW risk threshold. I had EI homeowners and auto insurance for over 18 years. ""Cheapest way to get Car Insurance for a 19 year old male, in Ontario?""
I am a 19 year old male university student in Ontario Canada. I live at home in the summer and only one hour from home during the school year for my studies. I would like to purchase my own car for everyday driving. However, I know that I would not be able to afford the ridiculous insurance there is for a male driver that is under 25 and listed as the primary driver. I have heard of ways to get around this, such as getting listed as a secondary driver and having my dad as the primary driver and just me as a temporary driver. Doing this is kind of lying, as I would be having the car all the time in the school year and then bring it home with me when I work at home. I don't think it would matter though, I doubt it is risky that if I did need a claim they would investigate how much I had the car... But what my dad seems to think is that he can only have a certain amount of cars listed as him as primary. My mom and dad live together and together own a 1994 Intrepid, 2003 Cadillac CTS and a 1988 Corvette (that is insured for only 5 months a year, stored in the winter). I am only insured as a temporary driver on the Intrepid as it is too expensive for anything else. I also have a 21 year old sister who is in the same situation (lives at home for 4 months a year) but she has just bought her own car and is her own primary driver. So I don't think that should affect me at all, it is cheap enough for a female to get primary insurance at this age. So now I want to buy a sports car. I am 100% sure I want to buy a car that is not common, its just something I am stubborn about and so I know that insurance will be more this way. Specifically I was looking at an Audi tt, BMW 300 series, Mitsubishi Eclipse or a Mustang... I also found a great deal on a '99 Porsche Boxster that a seller has that is way underpriced and I'd love to buy it (first choice). My question is, can I claim that my dad is really the owner of the Porsche (or other car) and say that I am a temporary driver, and then have me drive it all the time and take it back and forth to school, etc, knowing my parents together already have 2 vehicles and 1 summer vehicle. I would take myself off of the temporary insurance on the Intrepid. My dad seems to think that an insurance company will not allow them to be primary drivers on 3 vehicles and 1 summer vehicle while having dependant children... But what if I did the insurance quotes online and got approved? I already did get quotes before, and I don't think I ran into any problems. But I want to be covered and in case I did need to make a claim, this method won't come back to bite me in the butt. What is anyone's take on this? Like I said, I cannot afford to pay the insurance on the car as a primary driver at this point, but paying for the car itself won't be a problem. I do realise that I will be paying for this way than I do at the moment because of the car, but instead of $3000 more I was thinking $400 more or something. Thanks for reading all the facts, any answers will be greatly greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!""

one of our cars', 93 Toyota Tercel just got totalled out in a fender bender that was caused by another driver. since we only have collision insurance with AmFam on it, the other woman's company made the pay out to us (~$2K) and let us keep the car. we decided to fix the car up mechanically, and give it a bit of a face lift on the mangled front side fender, but didnt really put too much money into it. so the question is.... as we continue to drive the car, and G*d Forbid, anything similar should happen again, when we are not at fault and there's no bodily damage, just car damage, would we be able to get the other insurance company to pay for the car repairs? or will they say, well, you already had it totalled out once, we're not gotta give you $ to fix a car that not worth much... or how does this work? anyone have any experience with this? anyone here an insurance adjuster? thanks in advance""
Car insurance for 18 yr old male RIDICULOUS?
I'm 18 and male, so turns out car insurance companies think its okay to rape my wallet. I've been looking at a few quotes on different sites and they come up in the $300-$400 range. I tweak a few things, telling the generator that I'm a 30 year old married woman and then it magically drops to $70 per month. This is crazy, I'm an extremely careful driver, I never drive over the speed limit and I constantly check my mirrors. How the hell do young males afford it?""
Insurance for a ten+ year old car?
I am looking to get a 2000ish LS1 Fbody (camaro or trans am for those who dont know) and I was talking to my dad about the insurance rates. Since I am a male under 25 my rates would go up a lot with a sports car like those. However he told me that since the cars are over ten years old, the insurance company probably wouldn't rate it very high just because of the age of the car, even though its a sports car. Does anyone know if thats the way it works? or is he mistaken? Please answer the question without getting into lecturing about young men having sports cars and how its a bad idea. the question could pertain to any older car, I'm not even sure if thats the car that i want. I'm just doing my research. Thanks!!!""

How much does car insurance cost?
I will be turning sixteen this May, and my mom has arranged for me to get my licence on my birthday (May 1). I have to pay for my own insurance and gas money (unless I am driving somewhere for them). They are buying me just an old used car that will last me through the rest of high school and college (7 years). It may be falling apart by the end of that time but it'll get me from point a to point b. I plan on getting a job as soon as possible. I want to work somewhere this summer, and I will tutor (which I already do occasionally) during the school year, because I don't have time for a part time job all year with extra-curriculars. How much do I need to make to afford my car insurance? Also, my grandad works for State Farm, so we all have to get it there. OH and I took drivers ed when I got my permit so that's deductible.""
Boyfriend got into accident with my car..he has insurance/SR-22. Whose insurance will be responsible?
My boyfriend has had an insurance policy with an SR-22 on it for almost a year. It expires in 6 days. He was driving my car to work and got into an accident that was his fault. My car has barely any damage and I don't think the other car was severely damaged. My mom has an insurance policy on my car ( I live with her) But since my boyfriend was driving and he has insurance with the SR-22 doesn't that mean that it will go on his insurance? Isn't that the exact reason he had to have the SR-22 in the first place? So in case he screwed up (which he did) than it would be covered in any car he drives? Thanks.

recently took a new job in Canada as a social worker and tried to add business coverage on my vehicle. I was told by my insurance company that this would be commercial because there is some risk I would have kids in the car. I called another company who told me it is just business. The initial company is cancelling my policy as they do not offer commercial insurance which they claim I require. They are not cancelling it for any negative reasons but will this cancellation show up and effect my rates even though it is not my fault. I tried to add the correct insurance but they did not have it so they are cancelling me. Other companies say I do not need commericial coverage so I should be ok with business but because there is a this cancellation I worry. State auto insurance vs. state of registration?
I am currently working a temporary job away from home in another state not my permanent residence (I am living there for the term of the employment). While there I bought another vehicle and registered it in that state and when insuring it moved my other car to the policy not realizing this could cause a problem. Now on my first vehicle, which was registered in my home state, the home state has refused to renew the registration because it carries out of state insurance. However, I also don't own the first vehicle, it is owned by my parents who are a resident of my home state, I just use it and pay the insurance. So unless I am missing anything, It looks like I am basically going to be forced to register that vehicle in a state where I do not have residence or cancel my insurance policy and get insurance for only that vehicle through a provider in my home state. Is this it or are there other options? I'm confused because they let me renew last year even though I had the out of state insurance, but I had switched during that year so maybe they considered me part-time or something. I would like to avoid changing any state registrations for the time being, because this process is expensive and complicated between the two states in question. Someone told me the cheapest option might be to get a minimum liability policy on the car in my home state so they will give me registration, but I have never heard of that and I'm not sure if that is ok (having two insurance policies on the same vehicle)? I am not trying to play tricks or loophole anything here, I just want to figure out my options and get this done without costing me a lot of money or time.""

Nothing has changed for me or the second driver on the policy. Any way I have been in contact with Saga for the past few days providing the details they requested for price match and they don't seem to want to price match the competitive quote I received from the co-operative car insurance.
