coming back from my retirement to just pipe on here and remind y'all that a lot of witchblr is generic and rooted in consumerist culture.
example: you do not need mass-produced correspondences tables that some other witch (no matter how reputable) put together. look at the damn thing. you already have your own associations with colours, shapes, etc. just write down you think the rock is pretty and it's for when you need an outside look bc it's sky blue (which reminds you of when you look up at the sky and feel like an ant).
another example: no one can tell you how to work with your deities. look up some academic sources, read some ancient literature, sure. but also just do it. stop sitting around waiting for someone tell you it's okay to give this deity chocolate - it's your craft for fuck's sake.
i'm not saying everything on tumblr is bullshit, but most of it is people taking what works for them and then using that to write a guidebook. you are the witch. you are at the centre of your craft. it's your ancestors, your gods, your tools, and your life.
Etho: now, the key to cooking a steak—this is the part a lot of people get wrong. all right? so pay attention, this is most important: you gotta make sure the pan is hot. if it's cold, you've messed up, y-you-you've done something wrong. you gotta make sure your fire's going or whatever—your stove is on—uh, but don't just touch the pan to figure out if it's hot! okay? big mistake. don't do it. nuh-uh, nope. that's—that's a rookie mistake, right there. what you want to do is go ask a friend, get them to touch it for you and then you can figure out if it's hot that way.
A ship week event for the Dungeon Meshi pairing Marcille x Chilchuck! It will run from Monday the 18th to Sunday the 24th, in about a week.
The themes for the days are:
Explosion / healing
Fairytale / role swap au
Fashion / modern au
Hair / race or species swap au
Teasing / genderbend au
Gifts / date
Free prompt / food
You’re welcome and encouraged to put a twist on the prompts, pick either of them on any given day or mesh them both into the same piece, stick to them as much or as little as you want. For example, the race swap prompt mainly refers to elves, half-foots, etc, but you could just as well use it to draw them as cats if you’d like! There are essentially no rules, this isn’t inktober and there’s no pressure, feel also free to make things for it in advance rather than day to day.
This is a ship week, but feel free to depict them in a platonic or queerplatonic way rather than romantic as well! This week is to celebrate them as a duo, and every work is welcomed: fanart, writing, edits, anything. Join the festivities!
Tag your posts for it "marchil march 2024"!
I’ll be hosting it on the @feedmarchil blog, I intend to reblog every piece made for the week there.
Ty to Pupucachi for heavily inspiring the first ad card!
I don’t have the brainpower to elaborate on this the way it deserves but the Toy Soldier is a brilliant parody of militarism and Dapper Steampunk Englishness that really doesn’t get enough credit
it’s not actually that weird that people are saying “harry potter was never good, actually” after joanne went full mask off, and no it doesn’t mean that we all secretly think harry potter is amazing but don’t want to admit it. it’s pretty simple actually: most people read harry potter when they were children, when they hadn’t read a lot of other books and therefore didn’t have a lot to compare it to. then every time you reread it as an adult, you’re looking through pretty hefty nostalgia goggles. then, after you’ve realized that joanne is a violent bigot that wants you and / or people you love and care for dead, those goggles are broken and when you attempt to look at hp again you’re more likely to see it’s flaws. it’s not rocket science.
The thing about "not making a character's lore/arc about another character" is that we all follow a limited number of streams so when we hear about some events we'll approach them through the POVs we watch
So it's a bit inevitable. We all, at one point or another, make a character's lore about another character.
I agree that it becomes annoying when a character is almost erased from their own narrative but in reasonable doses I actually really like this trend. Like when people made connections between Baghera's childhood and Jaiden's. I don't watch Jaiden often so I was not really up to date with her lore and it's really interesting to see this perspective and parallel
whatever i’ll say it. red white and royal blue is a movie for liberals and i don’t trust anyone who claims to be left of that and adores it. there is nothing wrong with enjoying meaningless cute fluff once in a while. admittedly i read more cheesy lesbian romcoms than my goodreads would reflect. but this is a movie about topics (the american presidency and the british monarchy) that cannot be stripped of their deeply, NOTORIOUSLY violent roots. you cannot make a movie about two gay boys falling in love cute when one of them is one step removed from the person in charge of nuclear launch codes and the other one is one step removed from someone who is actively still upholding colonialism. you cannot throw in a few buzzwords to make your characters hip with the times and pretend like that makes it fine. if you made jokes about the queen dying but loved the book or the movie you missed the entire point.
also, sorry but casey mcquiston isn’t even a good writer. one last stop was trying way too hard. and the mc's mom was a Hashtag Good Cop so they failed to beat the liberal allegations.
random ass lps popular thought but i literally dont understand people who treat brooke like shes innocent solely because her mom is shitty??? like to me it seems like a very clear "villain origin story that explains why they are the way they are but doesn't redeem them". her mom is neglectful and abusive, yes, but a lot of her actions through the series are like. completely divorced from that conflict. brooke may be taking ques from her mom with the whole cutthroat social attitude she has going on but her actions are still very much her own, like she only got the baseline ideology of "you need to stay at the top to have any worth" from her mom and everything else (the manipulation, cheating, blackmail, etc) is all stuff she chose to do herself to attain that goal. and even THEN she's doing it all completely to serve herself, her mom couldn't care less about her daughter's status in high school. brooke probably knows this and is doing whatever she can to derive self worth from her social status alone because she's all too aware that her mom just doesnt give a shit. so everything she does is still on her
i guess a more succinct way of putting it is like. brooke's backstory is more of a frame for her mindset than something you should feel sorry for her over, yknow? because as badly as she's treated at home she turns around and treats everyone around her the exact same way. abuse is cyclical and it's crystal clear that brooke is willingly continuing the cycle because she's obsessed with the power it gives her, power that was stolen from her that she's now stealing from others. and the kicker here is she HAD chances to make positive changes, both with her dad treating her nicer while he was still alive which establishes that she does know how to be kind as well as savy being willing to reconnect and give her genuine friendship again which could've helped her out of this toxic mindset. but she threw both of those chances away because she's so power hungry and is CHOOSING to continue acting like her mom because that's what gets her the most power/worth.
she needs help, but she doesn't deserve forgiveness or sympathy because of all the heinous shit she's done. also, you can't help someone unless they accept the help and/or are willing to change, and we've seen that brooke is NOT willing to change at all. idk man i just dont think we should be so fast to absolve her of accountability when she hasn't shown any willingness to overcome her circumstances. like not even "oh i want to change but things are so hard" no she doesn't want to change full stop. shes stuck in her mindset and that's her downfall and that's the point
anyway brooke would fucking love marina and the diamonds. unrelated to everything
This is genuinely so hilarious, I can't believe I already have my own fanclub 😭. You blocked me and took screenshots of my post cause you were too nervous to interact with me awwwww. I would love to know what you think a character being a "girlboss" means, cause right now the definition just sits at being a "key female character" @littl3bird .
I also love how they're proving my point! They're acting as though liking Sansa and other "feminine" female characters makes them more feminist than liking "girboss/NLOG" characters like Dany and Arya. Cause we all know being a feminist is about sorting women into (incorrect) categories and deciding which are the better examples of womanhood! Never mind that calling Arya and Dany characters who fulfill "masculine power fantasies" is, in fact, misogyny. Meanwhile, their support of those characters is shallow as hell and only done so they can use them as props. It's so hilarious that they clearly think of Arya and Dany are lesser female characters and that they're in the right for doing so. They can't even pretend to be fair or unbiased for two seconds. They literally have in their bio that they don't want you interacting with them if you think Arya and Dany could get along or like them more than Sansa!
They treat people liking both Dany and Arya as some misogynistic conspiracy against "feminine" female characters. I didn't even say anything about not liking Sansa in that post, or anywhere on my blog. I don't have any "anti Sansa" posts anywhere and all my issues are specifically with her toxic fans who act like this...yet I'm called a misogynist because I don't support the fanon version of Sansa they've made. Guess what? Disliking Sansa doesn't make someone a misogynist and acting as though she's the sole victim of misogyny in this fandom isn't going to make her more important in the story. If you really defended female characters from misogyny, then why is it that you're fine with Dany and Arya being put down to prop up Sansa? We all know the real answer even if they don't want to admit it 🤷🏾♀️. They couldn't care less about misogyny, it's just become a convenient tool to use to attack fans of female characters who aren't Sansa. Notice how they don't ever pull this same shit with fans of male characters?
