Chapter 1 of 4
Marinette has not been having the best few weeks lately. Akuma Attacks are becoming more frequent and violent, Luka has just been turned into an Akuma (again), and she is having to deal with a life-changing revelation (also again!?) that she should have been ignorant of for the next few years! But no. Her Ladybug luck just had to be with her as she opened her mother’s important documents drawer while in search of something significantly less important than what she did find! Her Maman only asked her to find her pearls, but what Marinette found were lies and significant emotional damage.
That happened weeks ago. She refuses to acknowledge it, so Sabine has no idea that Marinette knows, and honestly? Marinette would like to keep it that way. For as long as possible. Which might not be very long at all with the way this day is shaping up.
Luka Couffaine, an amazing boy who Marinette genuinely cares about and trusts as a friend and permanent member of Team Miraculous, has been akumatized into Truth (AGAIN! Can Hawkmoth be original? For once?) because she refuses to admit to being stressed and yes she was fine, Luka. There is no need to be worried. Now, he is gunning to expose her secrets. Starting with her classmates who are with them on the Liberty.
“What is Marinette’s biggest secret?” Truth demands, enforced by the magic eye-thing strapped to his back. Hawkmoth’s really pushing it with these Akuma designs lately. Like, the black with the blue assented suit is nice and the glowing three eyes are a cool touch. What Marinette draws the line at is the frEAKING HUGE HUMAN EYE THAT IS HANGING JUST BEHIND HIS HEAD. Safe to say, she is not impressed.
“Marinette has a crush on Adrien!” Each student yelled when hit by a beam of white-colored light. Right, the Akuma is trying to find her secrets and should be taken down without getting hit. She can do that. Also, this is exactly why she will not be sharing Ladybug's identity with you, Alya. Just because you are part of the Underground does not mean you are privy to all of the secrets.
“Everybody knows that! That’s not a secret!” Wow. Like... ow. Truth is just being mean at this point. Marinette can keep a secret! She has been Ladybug, Multimouse, and the Guardian for years with nobody finding out her civilian identity unless given permission. ALSO! She can confidently say that she has gotten over her crush on Adrien Agreste. Was it hard? Yes. Will Marinette always have a soft spot for the boy who was also her partner in cri- heroism? Absolutely. Did she realistically have time between being Ladybug, running the Underground as Multimouse, going to school, completing commissions as MDC, and helping her parents in the pâtisserie for a crush? No, she did not. The stress of doing so was actually the main motivator to let the crush go (unknowingly advised by said crush before the reveal).
Though it is a bit freeing to know that she now blushes, not from the reveal of her once crush on Adrien, but because everyone still believes she hasn't worked past it. Which... wow, that really says something. Something that Marinette will put on her "deal with later" list.
Oh no, Truth is looking at her. He must have heard her sigh. Fuck
“Ladybug, tell me your biggest secret!” he demands. If she was just a bit faster in hitting the deck, she wouldn’t have been hit on her right foot. was touched by the compelling laser. Double Fuck.
The distinct purple moth mask appears over the face of Truth. Hawkmoth was watching, the psychotic bastard. Marinette has run out of fucks to give. Three is too many.
“M’lady!” yells her partner, Chat Noir. He must have seen her get hit because he began to run at her, unbuckling his belt. Thank all that is good, for she had the same thought as Chat to use the belt as a gage. The problem with that idea is that it is assuming that he can get it to her before she spills any secrets. You know what they say, assume makes an ass out of u-and me.
Marinette could tell from the sudden tension on the boat that everyone on that boat, Hawkmoth, and the thousands of people watching on the live stream Alya's blog was hosting were waiting for the admission of her civilian identity. It was what made Chat Noir run faster. What made the students (and Hawkmoth) hold their breath. It was not, however, what was causing Marinette to go through three panic attacks at the same time. No, that went to the knowledge that written on her birth certificate, in the space that was for the name of the birth father, was Bruce FREAKING Wayne. Also, the adoption papers claim her as Tom Dupain’s daughter.
Her birth father wasn't the man who raised her! The man that she has grown up loving and hugging and bonding over video games with wasn’t her blood. The man who was her blood didn’t want her. And she knows this because she found no divorce or marriage certificates between her mother and Bruce Wayne: meaning he got her mother pregnant in a one-night stand or broke up with her as soon as he found out she was pregnant!
Then he went and adopted Richard Greyson only a few months after she was born, making her self-confidence dive off the Eiffel Tower! The emotional weight just got heavier as she researched, and Instagram/Twitter stocked her would-be-siblings in the weeks since she found out. They looked so happy and comfortable! Happiness she could have been a part of if she had reached some type of criteria her father had that the others did. Marinette is sure that she would get along super well with them, yet she couldn't be claimed as their sister when Bruce had so easily thrown her away.
Under no circumstances can she say all that as Ladybug, though. It could lead anyone curious enough to look to find out her identity. Good thing she knew Bruce Wayne was Batman. A startling realization at the time, but ultimately made sense. Didn’t make the feeling of inadequacy any better. Against her will, she opens her mouth and just barely finds the mental strength to switch the names Bruce Wayne and Batman before speaking.
“My father isn’t my father! My bio dad is Batman, and he abandoned me, and my mother doesn’t know that I know now... FUCK.”
Silence. Pure silence. Able-to-hear-a-pin-drop silence.
“...what?” The silence is broken. Chat stands stunned staring incredulously at Ladybug like everyone else on the boat, but with the added layer of actually knowing her civilian identity. If Marinette could see Hawkmoth right then, she would have seen the same state of shock as her classmates. The would-have-been-helpful belt lays limp in Chat’s hand as they all try to reboot their brains. Truth rebooted faster than the others.
“Why did he abandon you?” Ladybug, mentally screaming, couldn't move before the laser hit.
“The hell if I know, he left as soon as he found out my mom was pregnant!” An assumption on her part, but pitying and sympathetic looks come from her classmates anyway. Chat is still stunned. The chat on the live stream Marinette had forgotten about stops for a second before rapidly whizzing by with many expletives and shocked face emojis. This will hopefully be a moment to laugh at in a few days... oh Kwami, please.
“Do you resent him for it?” Ladybug tried to dodge, but her section of the boat was small and open. She got hit.
“Yeah, a little. He abandons me and my mom and then a few months after I was born, the first Robin comes into the picture. So, it kind of hurts.” At this point, the students are too invested to move, and it is safe to assume that Chat will not be of any help during this fight as he is too far gone.
“Are you jealous of the first robin?” Ladybug has no choice but to charge head-on and take the laser.
“I don’t think so. I’m more hurt by the fact that he continued to adopt more kids, but never came back for me. And STOP ASKING INVASIVE QUESTIONS!” He engages her in hand-to-hand combat that has her performing awe-inspiring acrobatics to get around the eye. She lands a solid punch to his liver that has him doubling over just as the next question is asked.
“Would you want a relationship with your siblings?”
“I have always wanted siblings, but I don’t know if I can even call them that since Batman didn’t choose me but chooSE THE OTHERS!” Her last words were yelled in exertion as she judo-flips Truth over her shoulder with impressive agility and core strength. She is quick to snatch the akumatized necklace and break it. Purifying the Akuma and Amok, Marinette looks to the sky and heaves a long-suffering sigh. “Holy FUCK Batman. Thank you for giving me the next topic of my therapy sessions.”
The French Government issued a blackout of all things Akuma-related at the beginning of this whole fiasco to keep from attracting the Justice League and their million-dollar guarantee solutions. It did not, however, withstand France's 64.6 million citizens working towards the same goal.
They loved Ladybug. Like they loved her. She is the hero that created the team they can always depend on to save the day anywhere in France! Much more than the Justice League who had ignored her repeated calls that were sent outside of France and the blackout (It was a busy week for reporters when their beloved heroin had gone public with the ignored request for help. Fuck you Green Lantern).
They loved her so much that to not only find out that Ladybug is the daughter of the American vigilante, detective extraordinaire, Batman, but that he also abandoned her, their displeasure will not go unheard. Every one of the thousands of people tuned into the Ladyblog’s live stream had saved it, cut it to manageable bits, and then sent it to everyone they knew on every internet platform they were on. 26 hours later, the rest of the world was calling for an explanation for the viral video that kept changing titles to not get deleted.
The French government had no choice but to lift the blackout.
As a result, the Ladyblog skyrocketed in viewership and recognition for its consistency in recording the Akuma fights (much to Alya’s delight and her friend's bemusement). Many viewers would just watch the saved live stream. More would watch the rest of the videos. News articles are read, websites visited, and people watched the Duo of Paris and, later, their Miracle Team take down villain after villain, day after day, battle after gruesome battle. With the Parisian public singing their praises, it wasn’t long before the rest of the world adored the Parisian Heros just as much as the locals - if not more so.
All that the world was waiting for at this point was the inevitable reunion of the "Batfamily" and the Justice League's response to the Heroes of Paris.

Bio dad Bruce Part 1
Wattpad , part~2 , part~3,...
Note-My characters may not be like the original dc universe as i haven't watched/read the dc universe .Everything i know is from many fanfics that i have read .hope y'all enjoy it.
Marinette had to go to Gotham. Now you would think why are we even talking about this well the thing is tom isn't her biological father he is her step dad. Well who is her biological father you ask none other than Bruce Wayne. And the problem you see is that till she was 5 she lived with her father but on her 6th birthday he dropped her at her mother's house and never returned.
6 year old Marinette thought her father hated her and that is why he didn't want her there. Marinette started living with her mother and found out that she liked it here in paris with her mother and step dad.
Now she is 22 a successful designer and singer known as MDC and Nettie and her dad (that is her legal guardian jagged stone)was doing a concert in gotham and wanted her to be there.Now you might ask how this happened. Well liela rossi happened,when she was in high school everyone liked her because of her personality and behaviour but then this liar came and started telling lies and her classmates the bunch of morons that they are believed the liar over their friend even though many of them knew her from childhood. they started ignoring her and calling her mean things. At first marinette was very hurt first her father and now her friends. The only one that knew that the liar was lying was her ex crush and he advised her to take the high road the coward that he was.
So after her ex moronic friends started ignoring her she had much free time and started her own bussiness at first she didn't have many customers as the website was started by a newbie but then jagged stone announced that his personal designer was MDC and thus her business started blowing/blossoming this was 4 years before.
Somehow her classmates got to her parents and worse they believed it and told her to leave their house as a bully and someone who had disgraced them wasn't their daughter . This was the last straw for Marinette as everyone she had loved had left her except her friend Luka, jagged stone and penny Jagged's assistance .Marinette packed her stuff there wasn't much as she had bought a studio after her business had skyrocketed so she took the few things she had and left as she was leaving Sabine and Tom looked at her and for the first time saw that Marinette wasn't showing any emotion and was wearing something which had no pink at all and her hair was in a french braid she left without saying anything.
her hair but in midnight blue colour.
Tumblr media
her dress
Tumblr media
After a month of leaving her home jagged returned to paris as he was doing a tour and when he asked mari where to come to collect his clothes she gave him a different address which wasn't the bakery now jagged didn't know about liela rossi as mari didn't want to burden him but as jagged care for marinette as a daughter he knew there was something amiss in her life and he was waiting for her to tell him what it was.
When he reached the address mari opened the door and let him in as he was looking around he saw there was a kitchen and a room and studio he asked her,"blueberry are you living here?"
"u-um yes i am" she replied looking nervous.

could you possibly do an angsty brucinette oneshot where marinette didn't know that bruce was batman and finds out after jason mysteriously returns from the dead (aka revived by the lazarus pits)
There is like two version of this. A Romantic one and a Bio!Dad AU.
------
Scene 1: Marinette and Bruce first meeting. (Jason might be a possible matchmaker in the scenario. Gala/ Coffee shop/ MDC meeting. Marinette impress him on some level and for the first time in his life, he feels like this is someone he wants to settle down with. )
Scene 2: Bruce and Marinette in a relationship and being happy. (One year anniversary)
Scene 3 and 4: Jason’s death and the aftermath as Marinette tries to help Bruce cope and he is making it harder by pushing everyone away. She is grieving because she loves Jason like her own son. Bruce’s secret late night activities threaten their relationship which Marinette tries very hard not to pry but he is not making it easy when he comes back with bruises and sometimes injuries.
Scene 5: Her job in Gotham to balance the energy in the city is done and it will slowly adjust on its own and she did all she could. She has to find another city and balance the negative energy there. She wants to stay. She really does but Bruce is not making it easy for her to find a reason. She loves him and she can’t take it anymore. Break-up. It’s messy on both sides. Bruce loves her too but he’s Batman and he already lost his son to what he does and he can’t let the same thing happen to her so he lets her go. (Emotionally-constipated Idiot here.)
Scene 6: Years pass, Marinette stays away from Gotham and does her Guardian duties. She and Wonder Woman are sort of BFFs. So when there is a world-ending thing happening and WW asks her to come help since JL is lacking some manpower due to reasons (injuries/ MIA). Marinette obliges. There is a big meeting. Obviously, Batman and his entire Batclan is there. WW introduces her friend and B is suspicious of new people. Red Hood lets out a snarky joke that is so familiar that Marinette can’t help but gasp at the nickname she gave Jason (research a French nickname.)
Scene 7 (The reveal): Batman and Red Hood sitffened. Nightwing is more on guard. The other Bats notice that shift in body language and they follow Nightwing’s lead. Red Hood replies with “M?”. She nods. Red Hood takes off his helmet (plus his mask) and she knows that it is Jason standing in front of her and very much alive. She connects the dots between the body language Bruce displays and figures out Bruce’s identity. She de-transformed and hugs Jason. Bruce is trying to process the information as he is shaking from some sort of emotion. Nightwing also goes to hug Marinette. The other Bats have various reactions but most of them relax. Other JL members interrupt to get back on track of the Doomsday happening thing. (Maybe before asking how she knows Batman and M replies that she is his ex. Bruce is hurt a little but also blames himself since it is his fault they are like that. And everyone is thinking that how can someone that nice date Batman. A few fear her since she had dated Batman and lived. It makes sense that Diana is friends with her.)
Scene 8: Doomsday thing is over. Everyone celebrates. During the afterparty of sorts, both of them end up at some quiet place. Angst, Sprinkle in lots of angst about everything. Marinette was bitter and was soon yelling/crying at him. Bruce doesn’t try to defend himself. Marinette composes herself and asks him why he did what he did. He gives his side of the story and says how that doesn’t excuse his behaviour and that he should have handled it better. Marinette told him about the reason she had to leave and that if he had asked her to stay she would have and admits that she still loves him. Bruce hopes that they get another chance. A fresh start and they both kiss. (Maybe mistletoe/ maybe re-enactment of the first time they met.)
“I am MDC. But you can call me Marinette. I have a super secret job of protecting magical jewellery.”
“I am Bruce Wayne. I also have a secret night time job of being Batman.”
Scene 9: It’s been a while since they began seeing each other again. Marinette travels a lot but keeps in touch and tries to stay in Gotham every chance she gets. Both of them are going slow (this frustrates Dick, Babs and Steph to no end. Jason has already declared that he is going with Marinette if they ever split again.) Tim is okay with her and sees that Bruce is happier nowadays. Damian and Marinette are a little rocky with some hostility on Damian’s part but he tolerates her. (It is because of the kwamis.)
Marinette is home and baking something while Bruce watches. (he is in the kitchen doorway, respecting Alfred’s ban) When she is done, he hugs her from behind. Some lines about how happy Marinette is and their relationship is not perfect and there are some fights but they are getting there.

4: cutting me open then healing me fine
Invisible String Masterlist PREVIOUS NEXT AO3
And isn't it just so pretty to think/All along there was some/Invisible string/Tying you to me?
In June, Damian graduated from Gotham University.
Marinette took him out to BatBurger to watch the latest X-men movie to celebrate. Damian critiqued the fight scenes and Marinette judged the fashion. During their ice cream, they finalized their plans to introduce her to the Waynes–the Batfamily would come later.
They strolled back to Marientte’s house and Marinette headed to the kitchen to make some tea, as the wind had cooled off the air on their way back.
In the living room, Damian enlisted the help of the kwami to set up his surprise.
Hearing his soulmate come down the hallway, he jumped up to take the tray and place it on the table. The kwami bobbed around the room, holding candles.
The floor had more lit candles flickering in the breeze, interspersed with roses and wildflowers of various colours.
She gasped and put her hands over her mouth as he knelt in front of her, holding a box in his hand.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I love you. Even if we weren’t soulmates, I like to think that I would have chosen you to build a life with. Every time I see you or hear you or even just get a text from you, my day becomes a little brighter. Will you do me the immense honour of becoming my wife?”
“Absolutely! Yes! I love you too, Damian, so much.” She flung her arms around his neck and let the happy tear escape.
Damian slid the gold, sapphire, and diamond ring on her left ring finger.
“This was one thing my mother gave me when I last saw her,” he said. “It was her mother’s.”
The couple curled up on the couch, talking quietly together.
The kwami blew out the candles and smiled happily at the scene, glad their Guardian had found her soulmate and was so happy with him.
~~~
Were there clues I didn't see?
On the twenty-second of June, Chloe drove Marinette to 1007 Mountain Drive.
Alfred answered Mari’s knock. “How may I help you, Miss?”
‘May I see Damian Wayne, please?”
“I’m afraid he’s occupied at the moment. Whom shall I say is asking?”
‘He’s expecting me, Mr. Pennyworth. Mademoiselle Dupain-cheng.”
Damian came downstairs. ‘Who’s there, Alfred?”
Titus came bounding to greet Mari, and she bent over him, cooing at him as she rubbed his ears.
“How unusual. Normally, Titius does not greet strangers. It’s a Mlle. Dupain-Cheng, Master Damian. She says you are expecting her.”
“Oh, this early? Yes, I am.” He approached Mari, nodding at Chloe, who was standing behind her. “Hello.”
“Hey, Damian. Um, is everyone in position?”
“I believe so. This family is rather unpredictable. Alfred, is the family in the living room or the den?”
“Living room, Master Damian. Shall I prepare tea?”
“Yes, please. Thank you, Pennyworth.”
Chloe stepped around Mari, who was occupied with loving Titus. “Hey, loverboy. Filming okay?”
“Yes. Send it to me to review first, though, please.”
“Sure.”
The trip arrived at the living room, where Bruce, Tim, Dick and Kor’i, Jason, Babs, Cass, and Steph were gathered quietly.
Babs and Bruce were playing chess while Cass observed, Steph was painting Dick’s nails while Kori gave her a pedicure, Jason was reading, and Tim was on his laptop ‘in the crime-solving zone.’
They all looked up at the unknown visitors but saw Damian with the two girls and relaxed slightly.
“Grayson, Todd, Drake, Brown. I believe I win the bet. This is MDC, better known as Marinette Dupain-Cheng., and her manager-slash-friend, Chloe Bourgeois. Pay up."
Grumbles filled the room as wallets were emptied into Damian’s outstretched hand.
Bruce looked at them tiredly, then up to Mari.
“I apologize for his manners. Did he drag you here, possibly against your will?”
Marinette laughed. “No, I’m friends with him. I came here of my own accord and am quite used to D’s behaviours."
“I loooovee your work!" gushed Steph. "Is it true you know Fairy and Jagged Stone? Your fits on them are sensational!”
“Yes, I’m their main designer and stylist. I do some work for Clara Nightingale and other celebrities as well.”
Tim raised his head and stared hard at them. “You’re the girl crying in Louie’s!”
Marinette stared at Chloe, who said, "Dive bar, October 5, two years ago.”
“Ohhh. Yes, I am. You’re antidote-brother Drake.”
The family stared at Tim and Marinette in confusion.
Chloe explained.
“October fifth, a year and a half ago, Marinette ran into Damian, who thought he was drugged. He told us to find ‘Drake', who would have the antidote to said drug.”
“He wasn’t drugged, but he slapped himself anyways. I love that part,” chuckled Jason, standing up to meet them properly.
“So he really didn’t insult you and you didn’t slap him?” Dick asked curiously.
“No, I watched him do it himself," Mari said. “You’re Dick, married to model Kory Anders?”
"Yep!”
Marinette greeted each family member correctly, even before they introduced themselves.
“Aww, you talk about us to your friends, Baby Bird?”
Damian ignored Dick’s cooings but Marinette grinned, seeing the opportunity for chaos.
“Oh, he often tells me about you. You guys running into each other is the highlight of my week!” she grinned.
The Waynes exchanged glances. They only ran into each other on patrol, mid-air.
“Will you stay for lunch, Mlles. Dupain-Cheng and Bourgeois?” asked Alfred, coming in with the tea.
“If it’s not an imposition…”
“Not at all; maybe the presence of such polite young ladies as yourselves will inspire them to act civilized for once,” sniffed Alfred.
The girls smirked.
~~~~~
At lunch, Marinette was seated beside Damian and Bruce. Chloe was between Bruce and Jason. Beyond Jason were Dick, Lory, and Babas, and to Damian’s right were Cass, Steph, and Tim.
“So, Marinette, you met Demon Spawn in October?” Jason flicked his fork back and forth. “He doesn’t normally open up so fast– whoops.”
The fork ‘slipped” and sailed towards the guest.
Not batting an eyelash, she caught it just before it hit her neck and sweetly handed it back, replying. “Yes, we just felt a connection. Some similar experiences, we just felt… drawn to each other, and now I think he’s one of my best friends, barring Chloe and my-pet, Tikki.”
"Huh, that’s a nice ring.” Bruce complimented, noticing the flash of colour on her hand.
She smiled at him. “Thank you. It’s my fiance’s mother’s ring, so it’s very special to me.”
“Oh, you’re engaged? Congratulations!”
“Thank you. He’s very sweet. All my friends and family approve of him as well, so I’m glad I don’t have to worry about that. I haven’t officially met his, yet.”
“Oh, I’m sure they’ll love you. You seem like a wonderful young lady.”
“I’m glad you think so, Mr. Pennyworth. This meal is quite delicious, by the way."
“Why, thank you, Miss Marinette.”
“I hope you’ll meet your fiance’s family soon before you’re married.”
“I’m actually meeting them right now.”
A couple of seconds later the table exploded while Chloe laughed behind her phone and Marinette casually ate her soup.
“Who are you engaged to?!”
Marientte blinked at Tim. “Damian, of course.”
“Did he kidnap you, threaten your pare-” Jason was cut off by a sharp look from Chloe.
“No, he asked and I said yes. You’re all invited to the wedding; it’s the tenth of October.”
~~~~~
“You’re engaged after knowing each other for eight months?”
“Yes, we’ve seen each other almost every day and know… enough about each other. I don’t think there are any big secrets we haven’t told each other.”
The family eyed them from behind their glasses. Does she know he’s Robin?
“No offence, but we’d like to do a background check on you,” said Tim.
“Some taken,” she replied. “You think Damian wasn’t thorough enough? But since I’m aware that’s how you show you care, go ahead.”
“...So, you design and make clothing?”
“In basic terms, yes. I have a storefront in Gotham called Lucky Charms. My home address is 195 Andes Plaza. You’ll find most of my information is from Paris, so I do hope you speak French.”
“Of course, we all do. Bruce made us learn for…business. WE has a branch in Paris,” covered up Tim.
“Oh, it is a family venture, that’s nice. My parents had a bakery, and I often helped out.”
“Had?”
“It burned down the night I met you. I’d just been informed there were no survivors,” said Marinette coldly.
The conversation died down a little.
~~~~~
After Damian took Marinette and Chloe home, the family retreated to the Batcave to research Marinette, aka MDC.
Glowing reviews from Jagged Stone, Audrey Bourgeois, Clara Nightingale, Adrien Agreste, huh…Fairy wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic about MDC’s work, though that’s all she wears.
After a bit more searching, Babs found Mari’s birth certificate and her parents’ death certificates, confirming she was who she said.
Then Tim hacked into Mari’s school records. “Great grades till our equivalent of Grade 8, then they slip for a quarter, then back up, but not nearly as high as before. Something happened then– can you guys find anything?”
“No, nothing in the media…nothing comes up in personal, either…She starts going for therapy at a Master Fu’s…for two years. She was fifteen when he died.”
“Therapy for what? Physical? Mental?”
“I don’t know.”
“Her school records are great. She’s the class president….who basically does the teacher’s job for her! The class loves her…there are two transfers…reports of bullying increase…why are they ignored?!” exclaimed Babs, hacking deeper into the college’s records. “She’s expelled, but it’s retracted. She skips a grade and graduates early…”
“I see we have some things to look into. Anything else? More recent?”
“The class suddenly stop being her friends. Two remain by her side…Chloe and Adrien Agreste. Two friends outside of school…her social life dies after that grade drop in Grade 8.”
“Something’s off about her…her address is two blocks away from us. How does she have enough money to buy it in cash? Check Damian’s records; does his bank account look like he’s acting out of character? Increase in spending since October?” Bruce looked up from his studying of Mari’s records and addressed his children.
“She also bought Lucky Charms in cash, and a motorcycle.”
“Nothing new in Damian’s bank accounts, although he did buy a suit from MDC worth a chunk, it’s not enough to financially support anyone for a long time, especially not at Marinette’s current spending level."
“Marinette routinely purchases large amounts of fruits and vegetables, sugar cubes, and Camembert. It’s a lot and way too frequent for two girls living alone, even if they were both vegetarian.”
Damian entered the Batcave. “Is there anything you would like to ask me about Marinette?”
“What’s up with her eating habits?”
Damian looked confused, then appeared to realize something. “Don’t judge people’s eating habits; that is quite rude.”
“Why does Marinette as Marinette have no friends or social media?”
“Tt. Not everyone is an internet addict these days. Some people value their privacy, especially when they’ve been relentlessly bullied since middle school because classmates lied about them.”
“Why did she need therapy in Grade 8? What happened?”
“A transfer student arrived, was jealous of her and spread lies, causing her to be bullied by her so-called ‘friends’. There was a supervillain terrorizing Paris from then till June two years ago, when Paris’s heroes defeated him. I was told the mayor refused to let them contact the League, and it was decided to be for the best. Marinette was once a temporary hero called Multimouse, and Bourgeois used to be Queen Bee. Now that the situation is over, you should be able to access articles from Paris about Hawkmoth and the Miraculous Team.”
The Batfamily frantically turned their detective skills to this shocking development, and Robin and Spoiler headed out on patrol.

Marinette "Valkyrie" Wayne
Masterlist Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 ao3 link (completed) Valkyrie’s suit
Pairing: Marijon
Rating: G
WC: 0.9k
Delphi joined Robin at the closest Batburger after patrol, having a hankering for fries and a shake.
When she pulled up beside his Robin motorcycle on her own bike, she noticed Superboy beside Robin, who was already in a booth.
She slid in beside Robin and fist-bumped Superboy. Damian was already chowing down on a veggie burger, so she headed to the counter to order her cravings. Superboy was right behind her, ordering a stack of food to compensate for his Super metabolism.
They slid back into the booth and began to eat. Marinette quickly finished her large fries but had a bit of strawberry shake left, eyeing Jon’s stack of food as he finished his burger.
He put his arm around his stack of food protectively. “You just ate, Delphi, sheesh.”
She gave him her most pitiful Plagg-wants-more-Camembert eyes and he quickly softened, sliding his fries over to her.
“Here, just eat the rest of my food, why don’t you?”
“Well, if you’re offering… ”
“No . Only fries.” Jon’s superspeed came in handy as he polished off his food before Mari finished dipping her fries in the dregs of her shake.
Damian tsked, having completed his snack with dignity and at a reasonable speed so as not to get indigestion.
(Mari would like to remind him of the times he stuffed entire snacks in his mouth just so his siblings couldn’t get them.)
~~
Chloe came to Wayne Manor a couple weeks later. Alfred showed her to Marinette’s room.
“How have you been? I brought you the advance copies you asked for.”
“Thanks, Chlobee. I’ve been good– I’m actually starting out tomorrow night as backup on patrol as Valkyrie!”
“Wow, backup. And just yesterday you were running the comms,” Chloe wiped a fake tear away.
Marinette shoved her playfully. “I was on comms yesterday. Anyways, y’know the JL meeting? Well, they tried to find Ladybug and thus the vessel, so I really had to concentrate. Then I was sparring with Diana, and I touched the lasso and fainted because the power was starting to be exposed. Thank goodness for Trixx and Tikki and Duusu. Oh, do you want to see Pollen?”
“Of course! Did they find out?”
“No, no suspicion yet, I think.”
Pollen flew out of hiding. “My queen!”
“Pollen!”The bee Kwami of subjection hugged her former holder’s face.
When Marinette talked to the kwami about her plan, they agreed, although they’d miss their holders. Pollen at least got to see Chloe, the only one who knew Marinette herself was the vessel, Ladybug, and Grand Guardian.
The Guardian part didn’t really matter since the Miraculous were turned into a tattoo and the kwami were freed, nulling the Miraculous, but they still called her that, since her body was now the Miraculous.
Marinette could use their powers without transforming now, which made it easier to keep her secret as there were no obvious signs of the usage.
A knock on the door sent the Kwami scattering as Alfred announced supper.
Chloe was introduced to the family and it went as Marinette expected.
“You’re Audrey’s daughter? Do you know MDC? What's she like?”
“I know MDC, she's amazing and very fashionable and beautiful. She’s great to work with, Mom loves her. Everyone does, actually.”
After dinner, Marinette handed everyone a parcel. Inside was an autographed copy of Effortless Style.
“Chloe brought these for me. I hope you like them.”
“We love them,” they gushed, poring over the pictures, making guesses on who MDC was.
She didn’t make it easy for them, though. In almost every picture with Jagged was a different model, but none with her.
“Marinette! You met Jagged Stone!”
“Yeah, I’ve done a bit of modeling, and when I was in NYC Audrey asked if I would…when I came back Adrien happened and then it just slipped my mind,” she shrugged.
“Fine, you’re excused,” sniffed Tim.
~~
"I’m inviting an old friend for dinner. You’ll all be on your best behaviour, I hope.” Bruce warned the next morning.
“Of course. Who?” asked Mari.
“It’s a surprise,” he winked.
At five, the friend arrived.
“Brucie! How have you been? I hear you’ve adopted my niece!”
“Jagged, good to see you again. It’s just fostering right now, though I’m working on the adoption papers.”
“Uncle Jagged!” Marinette came flying down the stairs. “Where’s Penny?”
“In the car, finishing a phone call. How's my rockin’ designer?”
“I’m great! With the book done, all I have to work on now is my psychiatry courses. I’ve got a couple new ideas for your next album and tour, too– I’ll show you later. Hi, Penny!”
“Hey, Mari!”
The Batfamily stopped in surprise as Marinette hugged Jagged and Penny Stone. Chloe strolled forward, greeting the couple in French.
“Oh, Uncle Jagged, these are the Wayne kids, whose ranks I am soon to join. From your left to right: Cass, Tim, Dick, Steph, Jason, and Babs. They’re all huge fans so they might act a little weirder than normal.”
“Wait, Uncle Jagged? I thought MDC was his only niece?”
Mari leveled a longsuffering look at Tim. “Why yes, I am his only niece.”
“YoU’rE mDc?!”
“Yes, yes I am. Congratulations, Coffee Zombie.”
Damian appeared with Titus, Jerry, and Kismet.
“Demon spawn! Nettie is MDC!”
“Congratulations,” he nodded at her. “Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Stone. I am Damian Wayne. The turkey is Jerry and Titus is the Great Dane. Kismet is Dupain-Cheng’s Beauceron puppy.”
“It’s a good thing we left Fang in New York or he’d be after Jerry,” Jagged joked.
Damian frowned. Crocodile eat turkey? No, thank you.

Exclusive
Edna Mode was a renowned designer, famed for her harsh but accurate critiques, her fierce and practical lines, and of course, being the designer of the majority of superheroes.
And now she was hosting a fashionista gala, inviting those worthy of a Mode gala. As for those asking for an invite, Edna just asks who they are and calls security.
Lila, as the self-proclaimed BFF of Ladybug, and Gabriel’s muse, had already boasted of receiving the glamorous invitation. It didn’t just come in an envelope, it came out of the sky in a rosewood chest, accompanied by a bottle of wine and canapés. (Or so she says. Adrien and Marinette rolled their eyes. Chloé wasn’t paying attention)
Alya: Girl, I’m so jealous. But hey, maybe this will be a good thing. After all, Adrien is going with Kagami. Chloe will just stick with her mom. That means it’s a chance for you and Marinette to know each other better.
Oh yeah, did I mention that everyone knows Marinette is MDC?
Lila forced a grin but didn’t want to make any promises.
Imagine Lila’s rage to know she wasn’t given an invite because she was just a model. Adrien was the heir to a fashion company. She was not.
With all the bragging Lila did, she can’t back out or Chloe and Marinette will call out her absence. (Chloé learned about Lila being a guest from Sabrina later from gossiping)
So, she stole Marinette’s invitation. She did some editing and made her own customised invite, brandishing it for her class to see.
Marinette saw her invitation missing, rolled her eyes and reported the theft to Edna. Plz, everyone knows Edna invited her. She didn’t really need a piece of expensive paper.
The day of the gala arrived, and Lila brought out her invite.
The guard looked at his clipboard. “You’re not on the list.”
Lila: No, but I do have an invite. Obviously someone must have made a mistake with your list.
The guard snorted. “If that’s the case, then your fingerprints and eye scans should have already been registered. That’s what opens the doors.“
Tumblr media
Lila gulped and thought about sneaking in with the next guest. But no such luck. Security made sure one person entered at a time.
As the security guard moved to push Lila back into the crowd of fans, Lila cried out that she knows Ladybug and Gabriel.
Guard: what’s your point?
Lila: You’ll be fired for this!
Guard: Yeah, yeah. I’ve heard this all before.
Another guard just scoffed. “You’re only a model. One of many in the industry. Miss Mode doesn’t care for models.”
Lila: what are models if not the face of fashion?
“Spoiled, stupid little stick figures with poofy lips who think only of themselves” Edna herself was at the entrance, wondering what was causing the disruption in her guest entrance flow.
Lila: How can you say that? Then why would Ladybug be my Best Friend?
Edna: the day Ladybug says she is your Best Friend is the day I wear crocs. And I don’t mean crocodile leather.
Edna points at a random guard. “You, get this so-called model out of the way. She is blocking the queue.
Oh by the way, Edna calling out Lila was caught on camera by the reporters.
One of them questioned why she was kicking out Gabriel’s muse when his son, a supermodel himself, was invited.
Edna: I did not invite the boy because of his face. I invited him because I saw potential (basically she realized he was Chat Noir. She would never invite Adrien otherwise. As seen from her quote, she doesn’t have a high opinion of models) That is, if he ever gets out of his father’s shadow. Because, let’s face it darling, what can Adrien do besides look pretty and play with swords and piano? You would think the boy would be in part of business meetings, but no. At this rate, Gabriel needs this gala to get out of that stuffy house. Realize that maybe his parenting methods are flawed compared to some other talented figures here. Look at Miss Kagami, focused on upholding her family legacy of fencing. MDC already knows how to run her own business after learning a bit from her parents. Even Audrey’s daughter has been joining in on becoming a fashion critic and throwing parties for political parties. But I must go, my guests await.
Back inside the party, guests were avoiding a seething Gabriel’s eyes. He had come to scout out the superhero guests, only to be called out by Edna on live tv.
Marinette went up to Edna and asked one of her fashion idols why she burned the Agrestes in public.
Edna: do you think Gabriel would change his parenting ways if we did not expose them to the influential figures of this industry, as well as the public eye? I guarantee you Adrien will be allowed more freedom of choice, lest Gabriel wants his son to be known as a coddled boy who can’t even make his own decisions.
Edna didn’t bother softening her sharp voice as she says these words.
Adrien flushed.
Quickly changing the subject, Marinette asked why Edna hated models.
Edna: it’s not that I hate them personally. I just hate their jobs and what they represent. Models nowadays are beautiful only according to the world standards. People who see them want to be like them, never mind that the models they see on the screen are airbrushed to unrealistic and impossible perfection. Now models focus only on their own appearance, trying to maintain their beauty as time ages them. They go on diets and become superficial. Whereas outside the modelling industry or such like, you don’t need to be stereotypically beautiful to be worthy. Where your worth is measured in kindness and bravery and talent and intelligence and anything beyond superficiality.
Adrien overheard and he frowned, not liking the idea where his appearance on ads is not exactly right. He only joined the company to make his father happy. But maybe it’s time he stepped into the business side of things and exit the modelling world. Bonus: no more Lila!
Edna snorted, “Though I must admit Gabriel surprised me with his newest model. Her attitude is lousy but she doesn’t strike me as a model. She just doesn’t have that model walk. But enough about the old man, my dear MDC, let’s talk about you. I love your gender-neutral line. And was wondering if you would like to join me in creating my next line of clothes for the Incredibles. A rare opportunity but I like style. Now take this offer before I change my mind.”
Marinette: wait, do I have to fly over or-
Edna: you are too excited, darling, but don’t worry, my assistants will send you the details.
Why are the Incredibles getting a new look? The kids are growing up and Edna wanted to move on to new styles.
As Marinette was flabbergasted, Audrey congratulated her for landing the job. Kagami and Adrien also beamed at her good fortune.
Even the Incredibles admitted they looked forward to working with her. Violet was a big fan.
Gabriel was seething and thought about akumatizing himself but come on, one villain against a room of superheroes? No thanks.
Drinking a glass of wine, he eventually admits that Edna had a point, however loudly and rudely it had been announced.
He would not be around forever and he wanted to leave the company in Adrien’s hands. In order for that to happen, his son needs to know business (if he can’t design, he can hire designers)
And yes, Lila was a lousy model. She survived by shooting with professional models who managed to overpower her mediocre work. But a deal was a deal. Besides, her contract was only for a year.
After the gala, Adrien happily quit modelling (aka Lila) to spend more time with his father, learning about how to run a company.
Marinette and Edna proudly claimed credit for the fashionable Incredibles.
Violet also became the talk of the school for her MDC exclusives.
Lila had been humiliated on air. Alya hesitated but finally did her research. At the end, she collapsed over the ruined credibility of her blog. But she can still get revenge by informing the principal, Ms Bustier and Mrs Rossi what Lila lied about. The perks of being a class vice president for a busy class president is that she also has the contacts list for emergencies.
Considering how Lila framed Marinette, there would be no suspension or detention. Only expulsion. Good luck finding a new school when Edna’s gala was a global topic.
When Lila returned to school for her last week (it takes time to gather evidence and get the attention of busy adults), nobody wanted to talk to her or even exchange glances. She quietly kept to herself, hoping for this to blow over soon. She was still a model working for Gabriel. She could befriend other supermodels (as if. Like they would want to befriend her after Edna called her out)
Hell, even her jobs were down. Gabriel just told her to take test shoots to fill up her portfolio until the hype died down (aka her contract expired)
When Lila was expelled, she was ready to be akumatized into Chameleon again. Except one problem. Everyone avoided her like hell so how could she kiss her target. Even Adrien was told to stay away lest his reputation be tarnished.
Ok, I admit it. I was hit by “I’m no Angel” quotes as I wrote this. But seriously, does anyone feel weird at the idea of trying to become thinner when your weight is just right, all the while you know there are people out there even thinner than you are and are starving, not because they want to be stereotypically thin, but because they cannot afford food?

President to the rescue!
So sorry for the silence on my end! I have been having problems so I needed time to take care of them (the fans in my laptop were dying so I couldn't use it to make salt fics until they were updated, also I was moving to a new home, unpacking my things and needed to buy new things to store my things) but now I am back better than ever! Oh and about the whole getting paid to write? Yeah forget I even spoke about it kay?
Now onto my salt requested on ao3 by PrinceGuti
Marinette was so happy! After so much hard work and support from her parents and Jagged she now had her very own website! With this bad boy she is going to be able to take on more commissions and get paid for all of them! Of course she had pieces that can be bought other then commissioning her and she worked hard to make a number of pieces in different sizes.
Of course there was also Lila still hurting her... The class bullying because Lila lied to them, Bustier and there principal not doing there jobs, Chloe being well Chloe and Adrien... He's stuck on the high road thing still, while yes there actions hurt her... The loyal clients she earned on her own supported her and always made her happy when they comment on what they bought from her... All the while not knowing who MDC really is.
Except from one client... The president's daughter, the girl saw one of her works on Instagram and quickly began to private message her for a commission... Since then she has become a loyal client with 30% off anything she buys, things were getting hard on her at school that she one day told her everything that was happening to her at school, going on and on about all of her pain because that day things had gone too far.
Lila had decided to lie about having designed a collection for Gabriel and claimed Mari stole her sketchbook, as a result her classmates broke into her locker and tore everything inside with no luck finding the 'stolen sketchbook' the principal called her parents to reprimand her for stealing... Until her parents ordered to see CCTV footage of where the sketchbook was stolen... To find nothing... And no one apologized for falsely accusing Mari! Her classmates didn't even pay for what they destroyed! She had to replace everything herself!
The president's daughter showed her story to her dad... And he was NOT having any more of this... He was going to stop all of this one way... Or another no matter what, so one morning he comes to Mari's school and puts the place under immediate investigation... All students and employees' must be questioned no matter what... It didn't matter if the parents refuse for there kids to be questioned it was going to happen.
The whole class believed it was Mari's fault, they claimed everything was biting her in the ass now while Lila made some new sob story lie to make her followers pity her, when it was Mari's turn she told the police everything and presented all the evidence she collected overtime... Adrien all the while accidentally confirmed everything she said making everything turn bad for many...
The school was shut down until specific people were replaced, Caline suffered for her actions by losing her license to be a teacher and blacklisted from working at a school, Damocles was being fined for money embezzlement and taking bribes from bullies to punish the victims, both were replaced quickly enough by strict people, when classes began again everyone was forced to learn about bullying and the signs of people being a bully or getting bullied.
The class who bullied Marinette suffered greatly by getting themselves and there families banned from the bakery and Mari's MDC website, forced to pay Mari back for the free clothes, free food, babysitting last minute and everything they destroyed to the last penny from there own pockets... Meaning they all were forced to get jobs because there parents weren't paying for anything.
Lila was deported to Italy to face her crimes there now that her mother knew the truth and didn't want to help her in any way possible a criminal she once called her daughter, of course Lila caused Mari to need medical treatment and destroyed some of her more expensive belongings which she needed to pay back no matter what... While Adrien was back to being homeschooled.
Gabriel was horrified by the people he let near his son and while Marinette is a good person, he refused to let Adrien be near her until he knew about bullying and learned more about the difference between a tabloid and bullying, harassment and manipulation, he had to make sure his son knew about all of this and more even though he didn't destroy anything or made Mari make him free things.
Meanwhile... Mari was backstage with Penny while Jagged was playing a song during his concert, she was on his world tour for a well deserved break after everything she was put through at school because Lila wanted the attention and be popular.
And now she was free... Because she had the help from the president's daughter.

-Marinette makes friends with Damian.
-She doesn't recognise the name "Wayne". But recognises names of artists she respects.
-then introduces him to her friends. (Adrien, Chloe, Kagami and Luka)
-all 4 recognise him from the Wayne Gala.
C: Aaaand the rich kid magnet strikes again!
M: I am not a rich kid magnet.
A, C, K and L : *look at each other* Yes you are.
M: no I'm not!
A: son of a famous fashion designer and actress
K: Olympic Fencer and (not really sure what Kagami's mom does..... Yakuza?)
C: Daughter of The Style Queen and Mayor of Paris
L: Son of Jagged Stone
D: *looking entertained* Really?
M: how was I supposed to know that adrien was his son?! I pay more attention to the clothes not the people wearing them. Chloe was my ex-bully. Turned comrade because of a common enemy (lila! Salt, class! Salt). Kagami was my ex-rival for Adrien's affection.
D: Adrien's affection?
A and K: HAHA HAHAHA!
M: please don't ask... That was one big chaotic mess. Long story.
D: and Luka?
M: classmates older brother. Turned friend. Turned boyfriend. Now ex-boyfriend but still a great friend.
D:......
M: please tell me your not a rich kid.
D: sorry to disappoint you but I am a rich kid.
M: damn it... But I'm still not a rich kid magnet.
K: name one person that you consider a friend but isn't a rich kid.
M: Nathaniel, Marc, Alix, Kim and Max. (these 3 are not part of class salt because lila tried to claim that she was dating the artist behind the Ladybug comics. Alix is bunnix and Max is a genius that created a Robot. Kim believes everything Max and Alix say).
A, C, K and L: *all looking smug*
A: Kim, maybe not yet.
M: HA!
A: but he is training for the Olympics. You know how he is. He's a determined one.
C: Nathaniel and Marc. 2 words, buginette... Ladybug Comics.
K: Alix. Her family manages a popular museum in Paris and are very well known. Her brother's a popular archaeologist. (I'm making stuff up here... I'm pretty sure none of these are accurate).
L: Max. His mom is an astronaut and he created his own robot and AI.
M:....
D: you are definitely a rich kid magnet.
C: Besides your one too. Your parents run the most popular bakery in Paris.
K: Aand, Nettie. Your already on your way to being one yourself.
A: Right! Being MDC and all that Jazz.
M: I sometimes forget that... It's just something I love doing. It never felt like a job.
K: Have more confidence in yourself. Don't downplay your achievements.
D: MDC? Isn't that the....
L: Upcoming designer? Yup. My Dad's personal designer? Yup
D: My brothers are huge fans. They stalk your social media. They've been trying to find out your identity..... I know your identity...
Everyone:........
M: you want to mess with them don't you.
D: *nods*
M: who's in?
*in the manor*
Dick, Jason and Tim: *shivers*

The Party part 1
also available at wattpad
Part 2, part 3
This was the launch party for the gabriel brand. All the famous people,celebrities and few selected guests were attending. Gabriel agreste the owner of the company and todays host was standing watching his son and his date lila rossi who he approved of talking with their friends Alya cesaire and Nino Lahhife.
Gabriel pov
why does adrien hang out with these no good people at least he has Ms. rossi she is a good influence on him.i hope that because of her he wil tke interest in the business .
(he sees Amelie enter and talk with some business clients)
its weird that felix hasn't come with her as i know he will attend and usually he enters with her. Its suprising how mature flix is compared to him adrien is like a 5 year old.
Meanwhile with adrien and his friends
"this is such a huge party , hey lila jagged stone and clara nightangale are here could you introduce me to them, their interviews would be a huge hit."said alya.
"Oh alya i would but they are avoiding me since i asked them to do a interview for the ladyblog."said liela.
"Girl really, lets go and make them apologise to you .those jerks!!said nino.
"Please don't father doesn't want any problems tonight on the new launch party."said adrien
"i forgive them ,i think it might be because of all these fans and stress that they might be behaving like this."said lila
girl you have a heart made of gold. First marinette now these people .you forgive those who don't deserve them."said alya.
"Yes lila its because of you that adrien 's old man let us all come."said nino.
"Yes lila,because of you my dad is more lenient with me he likes you even more than marinette."said adrien.
why are you talking about marinette do you want her to be here instead of me."said lila and started her waterworks(aka crocodile tears)
Alya glares at adrien and starts comforting lila.
"Ofcourse not, she is a bully and makes you uncomfortable and wouldn't apologise."said the dumb follower(aka Alya)
"thank you guys,your so kind to me."said lila.
Just then two people enter and the whole hall goes silent.because it was a beautiful couple the male had blonde hair with grey eyes wearing a stylish suit entering with him was a beautiful female with blue hair and blue bell eyes wearing a beautiful dress.
The blunette is wearing
Tumblr media
felix is wearing this
Tumblr media
"Is that felix?? and was he smiling?"said more like screamed adrien.
Luckily no one heard him except his group of friends.
"What??thats the boy that acted like you and got us akumatised?"said alya
"he looks a little different dude. who do you think that girl with him is" said nino.
"She looks familiar."was all Alya said.
Meanwhile with gabriel
gabriel pov
why is everyone silent all of a sudden.(looks around and sees the couple)
isn't that felix? who is the lady with him wait a minute they are wearing MDC originals. How is that possible ?MDC herself has said she won't be doing any commissions this coming months.(MDC as in marinette and her own brand but no one has connected that it is marinette so you can say she is anonymous)
(he sees amelia joining the couple and smiling at the female just then clara nightingale and jagged stone join them).
He sees lila dragging his son there and decides to go to prevent something from happening.
Meanwhile with felix and his group
......you rock mari."said jagged to the bluenette.
"by the way when are you going to reveal your secret, mari?" asked clara.
"Well i haven't decided but i am not going to lie as i believe that i have established my brand and its safe from that lying bitch(sry for the language but couldn't help myself)."said the mysterious blunette.
"you know just do it here ,free publicity you know and that to at one of your rival's launch party,mi amor"said felix.
"now i see why chloe says you are a bad influence on m..."marinette was saying when she was interrupted by gabriel,lila and adrien coming over.
"Hey cousin ,whose your lovely date?"asked adrien.
"this is fun ."said felix with a smirk.
"Behave"was all the girl now known as mari said.
"must you spoil all of my fun"this was said with an affectionate smile.
Gabriel,lila and adrien looked confused while amelia looked on with a motherly smile and jagged and clara smiled and politely left the group.
"well i thought you would recognize her but well let me introduce you to my girlfriend,marinette dupain cheng."he said while pulling marinette closer to his side and marinette looked up at him with a loving expression.
kinda like this but marinette is facing forward

author’s note.2 | okay so since i did not write this in one sitting, i get that the story probably doesn’t flow as properly as it should. will edit if i ever find the will to do it.
Marinette was done. They wanted her to be a model student? Fine. They wanted her to stop being mean? Fine. They wanted her to be friends with Lila? Fine.
Luckily for Hawkmoth, no akuma plagued the sky of the previous night, or she would rain hell on him. There was no more tolerance left inside her to spare, and she certainly wouldn’t go out of her way to make some for the manipulative pest problem Paris has had for way too long.
She looked up into the mirror, having exchanged her pigtails for a low ponytail, strands curled to frame her face. Bluebell eyes glistened with a fire that burned brighter than hope— Hope that her ‘friends’ would see sense. Hope that Adrien would be there for her. Hope that the good guy would always get the happy ending. No more being patient, no more being passive, no more putting up with things she didn’t have to.
If Lila Rossi wanted a battle, then fine, a battle she would get. Marinette was lowering her white flag, replacing it with a battle emblem that scorched red, redder than blood and redder than the anger her friends would feel when she was finished. No more peace negotiations. Rossi wanted a fight, Rossi wanted a challenge. Who was Marinette to deny her from what she wanted?
They didn’t know what was coming for them.
The power of makeup was truly one that reigned apex among the world. A few touches of her makeup brush was all it took to erase her dark eyes from existence, give her skin a more radiant glow (She promised that she’d take time to give it a natural glow after she was done being nice), and ease a cherry-pink blush onto her cheeks, making her freckles stand out more in contrast. Marinette Dupain-Cheng meant business, and when she meant business—
“Good morning, Marinette! You look great today!” The head of the student council, a sensible, down-to-Earth blonde by the name of Noelle smiled, speeding up slightly to catch the bluenette on the steps of Francois Dupont. “Love the new look.”
Ah yes. The new look— A royal blue blazer, detailed with golden embroidery of cherry blossoms bursting at the sleeves and the collar, accompanied by a classy-looking silk blouse tapered with a soft, black felt. The pleated black skirt (Made from heavy cloth so that it wouldn’t flap about in the wind) was lined with a beautiful scarlet at all the edges to complete the look. Knee-high black socks trailed all the way into the slight heels that Marinette had added flower adornments on, just so she could tap a little of her own touch on it.
“Thank you,” Responded the bluenette with a smile.
“Woah! Someone looks like they got a good night of rest.” Madeline, the president of the Art Club teased, flocking to the other side of the girl. “That mascara looks sharp enough to kill, girl!”
Sharp enough to kill?
Oh, that wouldn’t be necessary, Marinette mused to herself, sending out thanks to those who had complimented her on her way to class. Nothing sharp was going to be required for the liar’s downfall— No, no. That would just be too messy, and she wouldn’t even think of staining her new outfit. Of course, the ensemble was crafted from her own hands, as stated by the classic MDC that graced the inside of her blazer, the collar of her blouse, and one of the pleats of her skirt. Besides… Lila wasn’t worth getting her hands dirty.
She was going to do things the right way.
The kind way.
“Good morning, everyone.” She greeted, walking into the classroom, garnering their attention with her punctuality. Every set of eyes in the room were attracted to her, like iron fillings to magnets. Some of the gazes were malicious, hateful; Some were doubtful, wary; One was pleading, as if spelling out ‘Please keep taking the high road!’— And then there was Chloe, who was entirely uninterested.
Good, Lila was already present.
“I’d just like to take a minute of your time. Won’t be too long, I promise.” She took a deep breath, ignoring the imploring gaze that dug at her side, courtesy of a blonde that sat in the front row (And no, it wasn’t Chloe she was referring to). “I’d just like to say…”
The class watched with bated breath.
“I’m sorry.”
Alya blinked. So did everyone else in the room. Stunned faces greeted Marinette’s apologetic one, including Lila’s— She didn’t even have to fake her reaction. What on Earth was Marinette trying to pull off? What kind of stunt was this?
“I realise that I’ve not really been the best version of me lately,” She admitted sorrowfully. I haven’t been the best version of me because I was being boycotted and isolated, “It wasn’t fair to put you all through this,” It wasn’t fair that you idiots had to lose all your reputations because of the words of one liar, “And people got hurt as a consequence,” Me. I was the one who got hurt. “I realise that things haven’t been all smooth-sailing in our class lately, so I’d like to apologise to everyone.” I’d like to apologise for not being able to save you from a liar who only sees her own personal gain.
A practiced breath escaped Marinette’s throat as she waited for her cue— The school bell— And set her bag on the teacher’s desk. Good, everything was unfolding right on time. Not quite far away, there was a distinct clack-clack-clack of someone’s heels— An auburn teacher, perhaps? Marinette reached into her backpack and drew out a package she had meticulously wrapped in brown paper and tied in golden ribbon. Sitting passively on top of the package was a small note, decorated in hand-drawn flowers and a hummingbird in the corner.
“Here,” Marinette strode up the steps of the class, stopping right in front of her former seat— Now Lila’s— Internally taking pleasure in the first time she’d seen the Italian’s true expression. “For you, as a token of my apology. I understand if you don’t want to forgive me,” Marinette swallowed painfully, biting her lip, as if she was trying not to cry, “But I just want to make things right.”
Lila blinked.
What the hell was happening?
The silence was broken by a quiet sob, one that did not originate from Marinette. Instead, Mlle. Caline Bustier stood in the doorway of the class, clutching her books and notes for the day’s lesson, wiping away a tear that dropped from her eye. “Oh, Marinette,” The teacher sobbed, “I’m so proud of you.”
“That’s so sweet of you, Marinette.” Rose sniffed, wiping away a few tears of her own that had started dripping during the bluenette’s speech. Juleka patted her girlfriend’s back, trying to calm the emotional blonde before she cried out a tsunami on top of her textbooks, giving Marinette a thumbs up to show her approval.
Alya beamed, seemingly proud of her former best friend, who had (In her opinion) finally started to see sense. “I’m so proud of you, girl!”
(Adrien was too shocked to form any words.)
“Could you… Open it?” Marinette asked hopefully, ignoring the teacher for the favour of the liar who ruined her life. “I… Just want to know if you like it.”
The Italian could do nothing more than grit her teeth when Alya urged her to open it. What kind of trick was Mari-Brat up to? Never mind— She’d just spin it into something stupid and the class would take to it like starved animals. With no other choice, she tore apart the brown paper, discarding the golden ribbon on her desk. The class gasped, oohs and aahs echoing all around as the package unfolded to reveal a pretty, beige-coloured cardigan, hand-stitched with murals of foxes, jumping livelily among berry bushes.
Stitched into the inside of the cardigan in pastel blue were the words ‘Lila Rossi’, done in an exquisite cursive that could no doubt only come from Marinette’s hand.
“I made it for you myself,” Marinette sniffed humbly. “I know you’re a really great model and you’ve probably seen clothes that are much better than this one, but I poured all my feelings into it. I spent every night of last week working on it, and—” She hiccuped rather loudly, instantly covering her mouth with her hand in embarrassment. “I just hope you like it.”
“I…” Lila was at a loss for words. She had an itinerary full of the lies and stories she would spin that day (“Marinette texted me mean things last night,” she would weep tearfully to Alya, sniffing and wiping away tears on Alya’s shirt sleeve, “I just want to be friends but she just keeps… Attacking me!”) but no matter. A smirk danced along the Italian’s lips. “Did you design this yourself?”
Judging by the smirk that Marinette could practically hear in the other girl’s tone, the liar already had a trick up her sleeve. If Marinette had to guess...
Something along the lines of she stole this design from [random designer], who just coincidentally had the time to be Lila’s friend. Or maybe the friend of Lila’s grandmother. Whichever didn’t matter much, because Marinette was prepared.
Marinette crossed the room in mere seconds, returning back to Lila’s seat with a sketchbook that she’d pulled from her bag. “Here!” She chirped, flipping open the page with an exercised movement, not even having to shuffle through the pages to find the correct sketch. “I brought the original sketch, just in case you wanted to see it so you could get a professional to redo it for you.”
Lila opened and closed her mouth like a gaping fish out of water. Beside her, Alya’s eyes sparkled, envy still glowing in her eyes at the sight of the intricate foxes, coloured in hazel, gold, and orange threads.
“Thank you, Marinette.” Lila gritted through her teeth, basically seething at the thought of having to thank the girl in front of her, who was smiling like an innocent sunshine child.
The bluenette then turned her attention to her homeroom teacher. “Sorry for interrupting and taking up class time, Mlle. Bustier.”
“It’s not a problem, Marinette,” Mlle. Bustier wiped at her eyes, slightly embarrassed now that the whole class was watching her cry at the sight of her ‘model student’ correcting her wrongs. “E— Excuse me.” She mumbled, clearing her throat. “Let’s pick off from where we stopped yesterday. Open your textbooks to page 63, please.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
The rest of the day went along smoothly. Marinette sat at the back of class, as usual, sighing in boredom as class was derailed off course, whisked off by another one of Lila’s tall tales. Honestly, they were already weeks off schedule— How the hell were they expected to sit for the final exam, at this rate?
She huffed quietly to herself, watching Bustier trying (and failing) to act like she wasn’t interested in Lila’s story. The woman— An actual adult— Fell for Lila’s usual tricks like a fool, taking in every single word in drunken thirst. Did Mlle. Bustier really have nothing better to do than get absorbed in a teenage girl’s wild fantasies (in a way it was like that). At that thought, Marinette sat up straighter in her chair, an idea going off like a lightbulb above her brain.
Was it...?
After further thought, Marinette settled back into her chair, humming thoughtfully as she drummed her fingers against her table quietly. Yes... Yes, perhaps.
Perhaps it was possible.
The rest of the lesson passed in wasted time as the class took a major detour to go on a warped journey through Lila’s lies, and before Bustier knew it, the lunch bell had rung. Students chattered animatedly as everyone got up, Mlle. Bustier’s announcement of ‘please go home and study this chapter by yourselves, everyone’ was pathetically drowned out by the rest of the noise.
Marinette collected her things quickly, needing her exit from the classroom to go off without a hitch, exactly the way she planned it. “I’ve got to go back to my parents’ bakery for lunch,” She said shyly, shrinking into herself as her classmates turned to look at her. “I... Was thinking of bringing some macarons back later. Before I go, though... Lila, is there anything you’re allergic to?”
“What?” The girl being asked snapped back as a reply, the words leaving her mouth too fast for her to register. Before she knew it, the whole class was staring at her, mouths agape. “I... I mean.” Clearing her throat, the liar plastered on a sweet smile. “What was it, Marinette?”
“I wanted to bring some macarons back for everyone.” Shyly, the bluenette repeated her plans. “And... Since I’ve been in class with everyone else here for a while, I know their allergies, but not yours. Is there anything you’re allergic to that could be in baked goods?”
The Italian cursed under her breath— Mari-Brat really wasn’t letting up. The bluenette had made sure to cover any ground that the Italian could use and turn back against her. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m not allergic to anything.”
Brightening visibly, Marinette nodded, shooting the Italian a smile. “I know things between us aren’t going to get better immediately, but I promise to do my best in fixing things! See you guys after lunch.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
Lila was getting really, really fed up. For the whole morning, she wasn’t able to come up with any reason to blame Marinette. If things kept going at the rate that they were, the class would be fully convinced that the bluenette was a changed woman, and that couldn’t happen. There was, in the end, a downside to having such a gullible bunch of classmates— Sure, they swayed easily to her side, but that meant that they swayed back to Marinette’s just as easily.
Hissing under her breath, Lila looked up to catch Alya and Nino’s concerned looks.
No.
She was Lila Rossi. She was resourceful. She had Gabriel Agreste behind her back. She was powerful. She was not going to let Mari-Brat halt her plans in their tracks ever again.
“I’m going to go use the bathroom real quick,” She said, excusing herself from the lunch table. Perfect! Now all she had to do was come back in tears, saying that Marinette confronted and mocked her in the bathroom, and the class would be all hers, once again.
Little did she know that Dupain-Cheng was one teensy step ahead.
As soon as Lila rounded the corner of the cafeteria, Marinette appeared, having just had a lovely chat with Rose (And Juleka, although it was Rose who did most of the talking). The two were at the front steps of Francois Dupont, having a lovely couple moment that Marinette hated to interrupt— But she needed to have at least a word with them.
“Rose, Juleka!” Marinette greeted, box of macarons held carefully in her arms, as if it were a box of important jewelry instead of just a box of pastries. “Oh— Rose, is that a new watch? I’ve never seen you wear it before!”
“Yep, it is!” Rose beamed, delighted that someone (Besides Juleka) had finally noticed it. “Isn’t it pretty?” Indeed it was. The watch in question was a pretty, intricate-looking thing done in rose-gold metal, with a pastel pink leather strap holding it down. The background of the watch face was a white background with a thin film of rose-gold metal, cut to resemble a wall of precious rose vines.
“It is!” Agreeing wholeheartedly, Marinette offered her classmate a smile. “Oh by the way, what time is it?”
Rose peered at the watchface, returning the answer with an equally-bright smile. “11.47.”
“Thank you.” Marinette thanked, continuing her way through the school until she reached the cafeteria. Just before she fell into line of sight, though, she hid behind a wall, peering over the corner until she spotted the table she was looking for.
Perfect— Lila just walked away. Marinette thanked the gods for all the luck that she was having— Okay, maybe she thanked one god in particular more than the others. Gently, she patted the secret pocket that was sewn into the lining of her blazer— Tikki, who had magic powers, managed to create a miniature ‘room’ inside the secret pocket, with the pocket itself acting as a portal of sorts to the room. After a few seconds, she felt the pocket tap back, managing a small smile of gratitude for her kwami’s constant love and support.
“Hey, Alya, Nino.” Marinette greeted shyly, box of macarons propped up against her hip. “Where’s... Lila?” She hesitated slightly with her question, acting as if it was a little out-of-place to ask about the Italian girl.
“She went to the bathroom.” Nino provided, mouth still full of unchewed food. This gifted him with a smack from his girlfriend (“Don’t talk with your mouth full!” she scolded,).
“Oh, I see.” I definitely see. I know what she’s going to try and pull later— I have to time this properly. Timing is everything.
Marinette continued to make small talk with the two, whom she had not talked to for a very long time. Much to her surprise, they were very warm and accepting, quite unlike the people who slung slurs and accused her baselessly a few days ago. One morning made all the difference to people who believed anything, she supposed.
All of a sudden, something in her chest buzzed, as if it were a fire alarm, vibrating in warning— She had to go. “It was nice talking to you guys again.” She admitted, having briefly dipped into a pool of what their friendship used to be like. “But I have to go. I promised Kagami I’d meet her for a few minutes before lunch ended.”
Alya’s eyebrows jumped up comically in surprise. “I didn’t know you still talked to her. I thought you two were… Love rivals.”
“So what if we were love rivals?” Marinette shrugged with a simple smile. “Adrien is… As much as it’s odd to admit, he’s just a boy. Neither of us let him get in between us. He’s just a boy, and it’d be stupid for us to not get along just because we like the same boy. It doesn’t bother Kagami that we used to like the same boy, so why should I let it bother me? Besides,” Marinette tilted her head slightly. “It’d be stupid to give up a great friendship just because of a boy.”
With her last words still hanging in the air, Marinette turned tail and left, walking faster than usual. She had little time left— As she neared the wall that would shield her from the view of the cafeteria, she sped up her footsteps, practically half-sprinting just so she could get out of sight before Lila Rossi returned, looking like someone just killed a puppy in front of her very eyes.
“Oh my god, what’s wrong?” Alya jumped to her feet instantly, reaching out to comfort her best friend, who was moments away from having tears stream down her cheeks.
“I… I thought she’d changed.” Lila sniffled, biting her lip to appear as if she was desperately trying not to cry.
Alya frowned. “Who?”
“Marinette.” Lila stated as if it were obvious, faltering for a moment— Why had Alya bothered to ask? Shouldn’t it come pretty obvious? The liar dismissed the thoughts and continued in her performance. “She threatened me in the bathroom. She… She confronted me and mocked me, saying… Saying that all of you… All of you are idiots for believing that she’s changed. She… She said everything was an act to turn you all against me.”
Nino’s jaw dropped so far that it touched the floor. “Uh… Dudette, are you sure it was Marinette?”
“Yes!” Lila spun to look at him so fast that it was a wonder she didn’t break her neck. “Are… Are you doubting me? Oh my god, it’s working. She’s turning you guys against me. I just want to have friends, I don’t get why she hates me so—”
“You’re… Absolutely sure it was Marinette? You saw her face?” Alya repeated her boyfriend’s words, emphasising each and everyone of them as she looked Lila in the eyes.
“Alya, not you too.” Lila sniffled, tears basically dropping out of her eyes like big, fat droplets of salt water. “It was her— I saw her blazer, it had MDC stitched onto it.”
An uncomfortable silence settled in between the girl and her boyfriend, neither quite knowing what to say. “Oh. I… I see.” Alya said at last, turning back to her food. “Well… Lunch is almost over. Let’s… Let’s get back to class.”
“Marinette just threatened me in the bathroom!” Lila puffed up, clearly upset now. “She mocked me! She called you guys stupid for believing her act!”
“Dudette.” Nino shattered the ice-cold silence at their lunch table, swallowing heavily. “Marinette was with us the whole time you were in the bathroom.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
The tension inside the room was so thick that Adrien could cut it with his bare hands. God, what had happened? The day had started off so well— Marinette agreed to be friends with Lila, god bless the girl— But as it turned out, one hurdle folded over only to be towered over by a taller one.
“Alya—” Lila began tearfully, her pitiful look attracting the sympathy of those who still didn’t know what was going on.
“You claimed that Marinette threatened you in the bathroom.” Alya interrupted. “While she was with us the whole time in the cafeteria.”
Faltering, the Italian struggled to find a way to squeeze herself out of the tight spot. “M— Maybe it was someone else.” Reluctantly, she backed out one trap into another one.
“You said that you were sure! You said that she was wearing a blazer with MDC stitched on it. Marinette was wearing that blazer during lunch!” The reporter shot back, Nino at her side, trying to extinguish the conflicted fire blazing inside Alya’s heart.
The seeds of doubt had been sewn, and Lila was going to have a tough time weeding them out. “I... I’m sorry!” She burst out into tears, sobbing pitifully in front of the class, most of which were already in attendance. “My lying disease is acting up again. I... I can’t help it. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone!”
“Uh... Is this a bad time to ask if anyone wants macarons?” Marinette cleared her throat awkwardly, standing at the front of the room. Her royal blue blazer had been shed, and it now hung over her arm, properly folded into half. Earlier, she had asked Rose for the time to make sure that she had a witness in case Lila tried to pull another act— But as it seemed, the Italian was determined to dig her own grave and all the work had been done.
The students of Mlle. Bustier’s class shared looks.
“I’ll... I’ll have one.” Mylene cleared her throat, hoping that it would diffuse the situation.
“Me too.” Kim followed, not missing the way Marinette flinched slightly at his words. Most of the words he had said to her of late had not been nice at all— But he justified that with the fact that she was being a bully to Lila, like Chloe had been to Marinette herself.
“Great!” Marinette cleared her throat awkwardly, slapping on a strained smile. She passed the box to the front row, where Sabrina and Chloe were, gesturing for them to pass the box along until everyone got their fill.
Internally, Lila seethed, anger burning like a wildfire that tore down every lush sign of life in her path. The girl had never felt that livid in her entire life— Who did Dupain-Cheng think she was, having a change of heart out of nowhere, pretending to play along with those oh-so-innocent eyes of hers?
“I... I think I know why my disease acted up again,” Lila sniffled, loud enough to gather attention again. Unsure glances passed around like an object that no one wanted, carried from hand to hand forcefully as no one wanted to hold onto it for too long. “It... It must’ve been because of... Of the cardigan that Marinette made me! You must’ve known that...” The Italian squinted at the cardigan on her desk, “... Cotton triggers my lying disease!”
The bluenette, still passing around macarons, stopped in her tracks. Inside her mind, Marinette was shaking her head, an amused smile on her cheeks. She had to give Lila credit for that one— She would’ve never anticipated that lie from her nemesis. “That’s terrible!” She sucked in a breath, putting on a dismayed look. “I’m really sorry, Lila! I know it seems like I did this on purpose, but I promise I didn’t! To make it up to you, I’ll make you another one.”
Is she serious right now? Lila scoffed mentally. How long does she plan to keep this going? No matter— She’ll eventually drain herself out and I won’t even have to meddle in this matter.
Marinette sniffled, collecting the cardigan pitifully from Lila’s desk. “But to prevent future incidents, Lila, I just want you to know that this isn’t made of cotton... It’s made from the highest-quality of star silk, which is incredibly difficult to produce and is rather expensive. It’s such a pity... I thought that only the best of materials would be deserving to be used to make an apology present... I guess you can’t wear it. I’ll just make another copy of the cardigan with some normal-range silk.” Sighing, the bluenette pretended to mull in sadness for a few seconds before an idea struck her. “Alya! You aren’t allergic to star silk, right?”
The flow of conversation redirected suddenly, with the reporter snapping to attention and nodding eagerly as she realised what was about to happen.
“Then... Since I’ve spent so long on this, I don’t want it to go to waste... Why don’t you have it, instead?” Offered Marinette with a sweet, shy smile on her face.
Lila, still caught up in shock by the reveal of the material— Was then slammed with a wall of flaming anger as Alya squealed, coddling the soft, fluffy material that made the cardigan the exquisite product it was.
“Marinette’s right,” Adrien chipped in with his own two cents, “Father can rarely get his hands on that material— It costs a fortune, and if hand-made... It takes forever.”
“Oh, I wove the silk by myself,” Marinette added shyly after Adrien’s contribution, “So I apologise if it’s not up to the quality of industry-level star silk.”
The reporter gushed, still cooing and running her hands over the gorgeous threads of fabric that made up the cloud-like base of the cardigan, eyes sparkling and the details of the embroidery.
Marinette smiled, returning to her seat without a fuss. The rest of the class continued to pass the pastries around, the perfect description of ‘ignorance is bliss’ as they pretended as if they couldn’t see the way Lila was shaking in anger. Alya, on the other hand, could see nothing but the garment in her hands, her ‘best friend’ having become invisible for the time being.
Just as well that it turned out this way, Marinette hummed, twirling her pen in hand, Let that be my departing gift to Rena Rouge.
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
Tomorrow arrived like clockwork, never late and always on time. The crowd of students clamouring by the front of Francois Dupont hushed to silence as they parted for two dark-haired women, both of which were giving off waves of confidence. Simple conversation flowed between the two, who were perfect examples of elegance and grace, their traditional-inspired attire complementing the royal-like aura they had.
“This dress is really lovely, Marinette,” Kagami smiled gently, admiring the way the fabric flowed around her. The designer had gifted her friend with a maroon-coloured hanfu-inspired dress, complete with hand-sewn embroidery of a golden dragon curled around Kagami’s waist and neck. The dress was completed with a pleated skirt that went all the way to the heels. At first, the fencer was reluctant about the skirt due to the limited maneuverability, but then Marinette revealed that the skirt was very simple to take off as it was just tied around the waist.
“You look gorgeous in it. It suits you.” Marinette replied, dressed in a similar looking dress. Her hanfu-inspired dress was light pink in colour, with silver threads depicting cranes flying about freely. The pleated skirt was grey in colour, lined with a soft circle of white.
Kagami blushed slightly. “Thank you.” Briefly, the Japanese girl wondered why on Earth Marinette would go and embroider a dragon onto her dress— Was it purely a coincidence, or...?
“I’m really glad you decided to transfer here,” Marinette smiled softly, her dark blue bangs framing her face as the rest of it was gathered into a braid that Kagami had helped weave. “It’s going to be nice! I’ll get to see you a lot more often.”
“We’re in different classes, though.” Frowning, Kagami wondered if she should request a change of homeroom.
“For now.” The designer winked playfully. “Oh, I have to get to class. See you during lunch?”
Without waiting for a reply, the blue-eyed girl moved away gracefully, leaving Kagami in confusion.
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“Good morning,” Marinette greeted gracefully, sweeping into the classroom with her bag over her shoulder and a package in her hands. This package was clearly not as exquisitely-wrapped as the one from the day before, as it was just brown paper and some rough string.
Alya brightened at the sight of her friend, shrinking away slightly whenever Lila tried to say anything. Sure, the reporter did shake off the initial reaction and respond to whatever her ‘best friend’ said, but the damage had been done.
“Here’s your new cardigan. It’s made from the same material as your shirt,” Marinette smiled warmly, placing the package on Lila’s table. “It’s a little different from the one I brought yesterday, but I still poured in all my emotions when I made it, so I hope you’ll accept it.”
Through a gritted smile, the Italian thanked the designer, clenching her fists under the table. That was the second time in two days she had to thank Mari-brat! She swore that if she had to do it again a third time, she was going to slap someone.
“Oh, Marinette!” Alya called out excitedly, wearing the cardigan that was originally supposed to be Lila’s. “This cardigan is so soft! It’s really amazing to wear! As expected of you, girl!”
The bluenette stared back at the reporter, wavering for a bit. She had a feeling that Alya wanted something from her...
“So... I was wondering...” The reporter’s expression turned sheepish, with Marinette’s internal thought-train going ah, there it comes— “Could you remove this and put my name instead?” Alya picked up the corner of the cardigan, pointing to the inside of the garment, where ‘Lila Rossi’ was embroidered on.
“Ah...” Marinette didn’t even have to fake her nervousness. We already agreed on this, She told herself, No more doing free stuff for people. No more. “Sorry, Alya. My parents need a lot of help in the bakery recently,.. You know how it is! Family always comes first. I’ve already taken out a lot of time to make the cardigan for Lila... And I promised Kagami I’d go out with her this weekend. I’m afraid I don’t have time...”
There was no missing the way Alya’s face fell instantly. “Couldn’t you put off Kagami for me? Aren’t we best friends?”
“I thought Lila was your best friend,” Feigning an expression of innocence, Marinette tilted her head slightly. “You shouldn’t go around saying things like that, Alya. You might hurt Lila’s feelings. Besides, a promise is a promise. I wouldn’t want to hurt Kagami’s feelings either. Not to mention— I gave you that cardigan for free. That was two weeks’ worth of hard work. I’m afraid I don’t have the ability to take time out to alter it for free either. If you really want to get it done, you could ask an external tailor to do it for you. I know a few who can do really good embroidery.”
Alya faltered. “But... We used to be best friends...”
Snorting mentally, Marinette continued to hold her calm composure. “Like I said, you really shouldn’t say that, Alya. Lila might get upset and we don’t want to hurt her feelings— Right, Adrien?”
The blonde jumped when the conversation turned to him out of nowhere. All of a sudden, every eye in the classroom was fixed on him. “R— Right, of course.” He said, forcing out each word.
Satisfied, Marinette nodded, still wearing her ever-so-kind smile. “Exactly.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“Hey, why don’t we all go out and have a picnic outside during lunch?” Alya suggested loudly, jumping up as soon as the lunch bell rang. “Marinette, you can come along too!” Something inside the reporter’s chest was stirring, and with the events of the past few days, Alya felt like she just had to quench that unsettling feeling— And the first step to that was to mend things with Marinette, even though it was the bluenette’s fault for always having been biased to Lila. Alya smiled, proud of herself. She would be the bigger person, she would forgive Marinette, she would integrate the designer back into the class again.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Marinette replied just as quickly, “We don’t know what Lila might be allergic to— She could easily trigger a reaction if we go out, especially since it’s spring.”
A collective choir of groans rounded the class.
“Well, I’m going to go back to the hotel to have a first-class meal,” Chloe turned her nose up at her classmates. “... Dupain-Cheng, would you like to come?”
Shock painted the faces of the whole classroom. Did Chloe just... Ask Marinette something... Politely?
“I’d love to take that offer, Chloe.” Responded the bluenette, graceful and flawless as ever. “Perhaps tomorrow?”
“Suit yourself. They’re serving lobster today.” Chloe huffed. “If you’re really that busy, then fine. We can discuss...” The Mayor’s daughter trailed off as she blushed.
The bluenette giggled knowingly. “You’d like to commission a dress from me, right?”
“... No.”
“...”
“... Maybe.”
“Alright.” Marinette nodded. “Then maybe it’ll be more convenient if I head over to the hotel after school. I’ll need to take your measurements and we can discuss the prices after.”
“Whatever.” Chloe waved her away haughtily, a poor effort to cover up her embarrassment. “Sabrina. Let’s go.”
“Chloe?” Alya guffawed. “Why are you commissioning something from Marinette?”
Rolling her eyes as if Alya had just asked the stupidest question ever, Chloe answered plainly. “Because she’s one of the up-and-rising designers in the industry? Have you seen what Dupain-Cheng is wearing today? Celebrities are already fighting for spots in her commission list. Even my mother and Gabriel Agreste acknowledge her talent. I’m not dumb, Cesaire. I can recognise a future fashion queen when I see one.”
Wow, Marinette breathed, looking at the stunned faces around the room, Chloe sure knows how to create an impression.
“W— Well.” Stuttered the reporter after Chloe made her big exit. “Then... What about going to the bakery for lunch?”
“Didn’t Lila say she saw a rat in the bakery the last time she visited it?” Marinette pointed out. “The health officer checked the surveillance and the claim was dismissed, of course, because my parents make sure the bakery is as hygienic as possible— But I’m sure Lila is traumatised from that incident. I wouldn’t want to force her to come along to the bakery— And we wouldn’t want to leave her out either, right?”
This elicited another round of groans.
Oh, I am enjoying myself way too much, Marinette chuckled mentally.
“Then— Then...” Alya struggled visibly before she was put out of her misery.
“It’s fine, Alya.” The designer reassured her. “I wouldn’t want to bother Lila. I’m sure she’s still upset at me. You guys go ahead. I have to go back to the bakery to help my parents out. See you guys after!”

Slam!
Lila fumed, hand still pressed on her locker door. What. The. Hell. Was Mari-brat trying to do? She didn’t miss the way some of her classmates sent her unsatisfactory looks after that pre-lunch stunt that Marinette had pulled.
And what was the thing about high-and-mighty Chloe commissioning from Marinette?
Sure, Lila would admit that the cardigan that the designer made was indeed gorgeous, and the fabric was smooth and velvety, a quality unlike any of the clothing that Lila had ever had the privilege to touch— But surely a lowly brat like Dupain-Cheng couldn’t be that popular... Right?
Dammit, hissed the Italian girl, Maybe I should’ve tried being friends with Mari-brat instead of Cesaire.
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“Is that... Marinette and Kagami?” Nino gaped, prompting Alya to turn around. It was true— Walking up the steps of Francois Dupont together were the two blue-haired girls, a gentle smile dancing on Kagami’s lips as Marinette talked animatedly, her hands waving around quickly to further elaborate her point.
Students lounging around the entrance for lunch couldn’t tear their eyes off the two and their matching dresses. Sure, the two girls had walked into school the same way that morning— But now that the afternoon sun was high up in the sky, the golden and silver embroidery was glinting luminously, revealing the true caliber of Marinette’s craft.
“But... They’re rivals.” Stuttered Alya. She just couldn’t understand... Weren’t they supposed to hate each other?
“They both like Adrien but they can still get along,” Nino remarked thoughtfully, taking a bite from his sandwich. “So Marinette wasn’t lying about going to meet Kagami yesterday.”
Alya was silent.
“Alya? What’s wrong?” Worried, Nino put a hand around his girlfriend’s shoulder, care and concern shining through his honest eyes.
“If... If Marinette doesn’t get jealous or biased over someone who also likes Adrien...” Alya started quietly, eyes still fixed on the two girls, “Then why was she so against Lila?”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“Mlle. Bustier?” The teacher looked up at the voice of her favourite student. Fondly, she smiled. Marinette had finally seen the light and changed her ways, becoming the helpful, generous, kind Marinette that served as a great example for her peers. “May I make an announcement before class ends?”
“Of course, dear.” Mlle. Bustier gave permission instantly— Marinette was taking up the reins of leadership again! The teacher couldn’t help but do a happy dance internally.
“I have an announcement to make, so if everyone could listen, I’d be really thankful.” Marinette started, her clear blue eyes meeting those of her classmates.
She took a deep breath. This is it. I’ve done what I needed to do, now it’s time to finish the job.
“These past two days... Have been great,” Marinette started wistfully. “I really missed hanging around everyone, just like we did before,” Before you all turned your backs on me and stabbed me when I wasn’t looking, “But I can’t deny— And neither can you— That the things that have happened... They had a really deep impact. And I’ve realised that I can’t just ignore that damage that has been done.” The damage that has been done to me. “So, for the better of everyone— I’ve decided that I... Will transfer classes.”
It was as if an explosion had gone off in Mlle. Bustier’s classroom.
“Girl! You can’t do that!” Alya exclaimed in dismay, “We can fix things! Everything has been going well these few days, haven’t they?”
“Dudette! Honestly, we forgive you.” Nino sighed, “Things just aren’t the same if you’re not here anymore.”
Adrien didn’t say a word, but the imploring gaze he wore said enough. Please don’t leave me here alone. We promised we’d fight together, right? As long as both of us know...
Marinette held her hand up to silence them, and the classroom, just as swiftly, became the deadly silence that followed post-disaster. “I understand. But once again, this is for the better,” — Of my mental health, “I’ve talked to Mlle. Mendeliev, and she’s agreed to take me in. I believe that once the changes have taken place, we can all grow more freely without restrictions.”
In the corner, Mlle. Bustier was tearing up and dabbing at her eyes with her sleeve.
“Mlle. Bustier,” Marinette turned to her teacher, no malice in her eyes. “I’ll be under Mlle. Mendeliev’s care now.”
“Marinette...” The teacher sobbed quietly, with Chloe shooting her a look of disgust from the front row.
“It’s not going to be easy for any of us,” Marinette turned back to the class, “But with time, I’m sure we will all prosper. Especially since you will now be under the care of our one and only Lila Rossi.”
Adrien looked like someone had just killed a puppy in front of him.
“Since I am the current class president, I thought I’d pass on the duties onto the most capable person in our class.” Marinette explained warmly, never moving her gaze away from the bewildered Lila. “Lila has the most connections in our class out of all of us, and she’s met so many CEOs and entrepreneurs that she must know a lot about organising and planning. I’m sure you can do it, Lila, but...” She paused. “You can handle it, right?”
“Y— Yeah. Of course.” Lila stuttered.
“You promised the class that you’d get BTS to perform for the year-end fundraiser since you were supposed to be in an arranged marriage with their youngest member, Jungkook.” Marinette continued, God I am enjoying myself too much honestly, but I ain’t going to stop now, “And you said you could convince your godfather, Bruce Wayne, to allow the class to go to Wayne Enterprises for this year’s class trip.”
“She said she could convince Tony Hawk to give me an internship, too!” Alix chipped in.
“And that she’d bring me along the next time Prince Ali asks for her help for a charity cause!” Rose smiled.
“She said she’d introduce me to the CEO of Graham Films!” Nino’s eyes shone at the idea.
The class continued to talk all over one another until Marinette silenced them once more. “Now, now. Let’s not overwhelm Lila. We wouldn’t want her to be overworked or to feel like the expectations are set too high, right?”
The class agreed, nodding along.
Marinette made eye contact with Lila, offering her a sweet smile as she did so. Lila, on the other hand, had no taste for such politeness. Instead, she straight-out glared at the former class president.
This is your problem now.
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“Marinette! I was hoping to catch you before you went home,” Alya panted, having been able to find the bluenette in the locker room before the designer slipped out of her reach. “You... You’re really serious about leaving?”
“Yeah.” Smiled Marinette, organising her textbooks into her bag, dusting down her skirt. Noticing Alya’s crestfallen expression, she took the initiative to continue the conversation. “Is there anything else, Alya?”
“Did you... Did you really hate Lila because she liked Adrien, too?” The reporter asked somewhat timidly.
Marinette giggled. Normally, when the girl giggled, you could hear a gentle tinkling of wind chimes— But at that moment, Alya heard the freezing winds on Mount Everest instead. “Don’t be silly, Alya. All this over a boy? Besides, I’m over him.”
“Then...” Alya swallowed difficulty. “Lila... Really was lying this whole time?”
The gaze that swept across the reporter was stone cold, and it made Alya feel as if she was dangling over a valley of jagged rocks. “What do you think, Alya?” Even so, the bluenette maintained a sweet smile.
“She was. She was lying the whole time.” Alya suddenly felt as if she had a shortness of air. “This whole time—”
“Oh, good for you. You finally learned how to see further than one feet in front of you.” Marinette hummed. “I’m proud of you, really. But I’m afraid that I don’t have the time to listen to you slowly come to conclusions after I’ve tried making you see sense for the past half a year. I tried to stop you from ruining your futures, but I guess determination was always one of your good traits.”
Alya slipped to the floor, having lost the feeling in her legs. She placed one hand against the lockers for support as she shook, weakly looking up at the girl who she was once so proud to call her ‘best friend’.
“Marinette?” Kagami’s voice rang through the room, indicating that the girl was waiting at the doorway. “You said you were heading to Bourgeois’s hotel after school— Would you like a ride?”
“That’d be nice, Kagami. A moment.” The designer looked down at her friend and smiled, albeit a little sadly this time— And then she lowered her voice.
“Determination was always one of your good traits.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“Marinette,” Adrien perked up at the sight of the bluenette leaving the school doors— Side by side with Kagami, who looked ready to draw a sword and start a duel then and there.
“This’ll just take a minute, ‘Gami.” Marinette reassured, gently patting her friend’s arm. “Why don’t you get in the car first? It looks like it’s going to rain.”
Reluctantly, Kagami nodded. “Alright.” Warily, the fencer stepped down the stairs and into the car— But even as she sat in the vehicle, she watched over her fellow bluenette like a hawk, ready to jump out and challenge the blonde if the situation called for it.
Adrien rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, not quite knowing what to say. Luckily for him, the designer decided to start the conversation.
“I just wanted to say thank you.” Marinette smiled softly. A few months ago, when she looked at Adrien, she would see the kind, generous, pure-hearted boy with the finest golden hair and the brightest green eyes. Now? All she saw was a spineless, sheltered, passive child that was afraid of confrontations.
“For what?” Adrien looked at Marinette, and no longer did he see the cute, pigtail-adorning girl that would blush fiercely everytime he tried to talk to her. Instead, he saw a beautiful, young woman, a rock that had pulled through all the odds to become a vibrant, iridescent diamond.
Marinette was glowing with confidence, her presence diffusing into the air around her and triggering eyes to look up every time she walked by. There was something about the way she held herself that just made the woman demand awe and respect from those that crossed her path. The old ‘Clumsinette’ had been shed like an old snake skin to reveal a treasure, a better version of the bluenette that had always been waiting for her time to come.
Bluebell eyes met green ones just as rain began to patter down onto the streets of Paris. Marinette glanced up slightly, not at all bothered as she smoothly retrieved an umbrella from her bag, holding it out for the blonde to take. A flush of deja vu burst through Adrien’s veins and through his skin as he took it with a mumbled thanks, eyes blown wide as Marinette let loose her hair from her ponytail, pulling her blazer over her head to avoid getting her head wet.
Adrien could only gape as Marinette uttered familiar words back to him, a knowing smile dancing across her lips as she ran off into the rain as if an invisible weight had been lifted off her shoulders. The bluenette looked lighter, brighter, ready to take flight and soar towards the success that her crops of hard work had finally started to bear. Before the blonde model knew it, Marinette Dupain-Cheng had slipped out of his grip, already spreading her multi-coloured wings to land among the stars.
“Thank you for telling me to take the high road.”

Graveyard Siblings (7)
[Masterlist]
(Part 1)(Part 6)
Gina found out about Marinette about a year later.
Jason and Marinette were chilling and binging shows. Gina showed up unannounced to surprise Jason.
She nearly had a heart attack when she saw her supposedly dead ‘Little Fairy’ in the middle of a pillow fight with Jason.
“Uh...Surprise?”
Needless to say, Jason and Marinette had the lecture of their life after they sat her down and told her about Ladybug. (She already knew about Red Hood.)
“I am not mad at you, My Little Fairy. But why didn’t you tell me you were alive?”
“I.. er..forgot?” Maria tried hard not to wince.
“Well, at least I am the only one else who knows about you.”
“Yeah, About that…”
Good thing that they were in Gotham and Hawkmoth was out of commission.
Gina agreed to not let Tom and Sabine know about Marinette although she was mad that Marinette was actually killed and it was framed as suicide.
“It’s okay, Nonna. There are magic laws to deal out suitable punishments. They are paying for it.”
Jason looked at Maria with an incredulous look. Magic laws, my ass. (Technically, there are Miraculous laws and curses to deal out divine punishment on those who abuse the Miraculouses. Maria was just taking more creative liberties with Hawkmoth and everyone else involved.)
------
Never Have I Ever (Takes place a few weeks after Jason’s and Marinette’s trip from Paris)
“Never have I ever had to dig out of my own grave.” Tim said, pointedly looking at Jason.
“Damn you.” Jason took a shot nonetheless. He shot a look at Marinette. “You too.”
Marinette grumbled a bit but also took a shot.(I know that the American age limit is 21.)
“Wait, I thought you faked your death.”
“No. Not really. I actually did die. I went into that mansion, knowing it was a trap and that it was my one chance to get close to Hawkmoth and cast a spell that took away his miraculous. I am only here because there was a resurrection spell in the grimoire which I used as a back-up plan. Jason kidnapping me after I dug out of my own grave derailed it a bit.”
“The moment she crawled out of the dirt, I knew that I had to adopt her like B did for me. Best decision of my life.”
“That’s not what you said last week.”
“That was because you ate the last cookie.” “Well, I made them so I have the right to have the last cookie.”
Duke cut in, “Okay, okay. Stop, it’s my turn. Never have I ever met a rockstar.”
A few of them took a shot.
Marinette took a shot too, “I swear you guys are trying to get me drunk.”
“How?!”
“School stuff and we had jobs working at Chloe’s hotel. I was Jagged Stone’s gopher. I made him glasses shaped like the Eiffel Tower. Later, an album cover. Long story short, I became his personal designer/ honorary niece. Oh shit. I forgot to tell him. I knew I forgot something.”
TIm shouted in excitement after getting over his shock “Jagged Stone?! The rockstar, Jagged Stone?! The one with a pet crocodile, Jagged Stone?!. Oh Please, please, I have to meet him. So wait. Wait. That means that you are MDC. I mean was, since technically MDC is dead now. But it’s you. Wow.”
Tim had stars in his eyes or maybe it’s the alcohol.
“I am thinking of starting over with a new name. How does MT sound?”
“I will help. I mean, can I help? Your designs for his tours were amazing. Can I commission you? Then, I will be your first customer.” “Sure. But I will need some equipment. My parents took mine away and I will also need some materials and your measurements. Oh, where can I get some paper and a pencil?” Marinette rambled as she got up. The alcohol kicked in and she fell down.
Jason hugged her. “Easy. Easy. You can do it in the morning.”
“But I have some ideas. And I need to shop for stuff tomorrow. Can you drive me to the shopping district tomorrow?”
“Sure, Pixie. Come on. Let’s get you to bed.” Jason carried the now sleepy Marinette to her room.
“But what about the game?”
“You guys finish without us.” Jason replied as he left the living room they were playing in.
“She was a designer?”
“Yup. MDC. A pretty good one too. The jacket for Jagged’s last tour was awesome. He claims her as his honorary ‘niece’. They were pretty close too by the looks of it. Jagged even went on a break due to personal reasons. I bet that’s why.”
“Rockstar designer and superhero. Our new sister keeps surprising us more and more everyday.”
-----
There is of course temptation to use the Miraculous to help with crime and cases.
Bruce shut down the idea pretty early on and Maria agreed with his decision, stating that Miraculous are dangerous to be out in the open. Especially in a crime-ridden city and it would be best if no one knew that they were in Gotham.
The Kwamis were free to roam the manor and allowed to go with any of the Batfam as long as they informed Maria who they were going with. Alfred was happy to have some being as company and occasional help while the Waynes go about their day.
The Miraculous were used a total of 16 times in the past 3 years under special circumstances, including the Joker incident and rules were established after one memorable Easter.
They can only be used in life and death situations, mostly when facing new adversaries and threats.
Must have special approval of both Bruce and Maria to use one. (Behind Bruce’s back, the Miraculous are handed out like candy when the Bats want to play pranks on their fellow heroes. Bruce did use the Fox one time when Clark pissed him off and made the reporter think he had gone batty. And no one, except the Bats and maybe John Constantine, figured out the identity of the Tiger-themed costumed person who punched Superman out of the Solar System which took weeks for the Man of Steel to fly back and never to be seen again and why Batman looked too pleased with himself afterwards.)
Maria had threatened everyone to not lose them when the Miraculous were in their care and they know she has every intention of following through. Family or not.
Damian once went through every single trap Maria had set for the Miracle Box so he could wear every Miraculous after Maria told him about Kwami Buster.
He managed to wear 14 of them before he passed out and was later found by Dick, who was alerted by Wyazz about what Robin was up to.
Needless to say, Maria was not happy.
She and Lucius set better security for the Box and asked other magic users for help with the magic side of the security. The Batfam had a few fun attempts breaking into it. (Tim did not use the blueprints to the safe the Miracle box is in to better hide his coffee. And definitely not because Maria had given Alfred the key to originally hers his coffee box and he had been using it to empty out Tim’s stash every week.)
Bruce didn’t give any punishment to Damian, seeing as the boy wonder was sore and in pain all over from trying to wield all of the Miraculous was punishment enough and effectively benched until he recovered.
-----
(Possible OOC Bruce ahead. I hope I did him justice as fanon Bruce. This is set a few months after Maria starts living in the Manor. P.S: It’s a little angsty with some Tom and Sabine salt.)
Despite what everyone thinks, Bruce doesn’t hate magic. He just didn’t like magic. Like he keeps telling everyone, there’s a difference. He found its lack of logic and own set of warped rules unsettling. He knows when it is beyond his capabilities and calls in experts like John Constantine or Zatanna for help to deal with the arcane. But mostly, he didn’t want to deal with it.
The newest addition to the family, courtesy of Jason, was heavily involved in it which prompted everyone else, mostly Jason, to make sure he doesn’t drive the girl away. It did annoy him a little bit. Honestly, Duke was proof that he can make exceptions to his rules and he tolerates the other magic users of the Justice League. That however doesn’t satisfy his second son enough who had pulled his guns out and threatened him to not kick his ‘baby sister’ out of Gotham.
But that’s not what is important right now. He had gotten a not very severe injury with his last bout with Bane and it was thanks to Nightwing and Red Robin that he didn’t get anything worse. However, he was benched by Alfred and everyone else agreed so he was providing support and solving cases in the Batcave while Dick went out as Batman for the night. Babara was out with her father tonight so for the first time since her arrival, he was alone with Delphi aka Maria in the Batcave with Alfred periodically checking on him.
She was quiet, occasionally humming songs or muttering curses under her breath as she hacked into corporations to relay needed information. He has to admit that she was a fast learner, managing to decently hack past firewalls after a few months of tutoring from Oracle and Red Robin. He did have to help out a few times on particularly difficult companies with high security. It was a normal night in Gotham with a few lulls in activity. It was during one of those lulls that he first broke their comfortable silence.
“Are those your parents?” he asked, when he saw CCTV footage of a bakery she pulled up on one of the monitors. It was morning already in Paris with a couple bustling about and serving customers.
“Not anymore.” Her voice was thick as they watched the Asian woman at the register give a bright smile to the customer. A man as big as Bane carried a new batch of macarons to the front, cheer on his face. Perhaps it was looking at the happy couple that it struck him that the battle-hardened girl in front of him, had lived a normal life. An innocent bystander, painfully normal being a daughter of bakers, oblivious to a world of monsters, aliens and magic before being dragged into it by some madman hungry for power.
“You know, I thought that they would have cared more... After I...died. I mean they did raise me for 15 years and they should have... known me better. It hurts that...they had so little...faith in me.” Her voice was soft, nearly inaudible. Bruce wasn’t sure if she was talking to him or to herself.
She didn’t look away from the footage but he saw a tear made its way down her cheek.
“They did support me at first,.... did their best to help me but the…. rumours and the lies got too much and they started to doubt me. It didn’t help that I kept disappearing a lot and I was never where I said I was. I supposed that it was a little bit my fault that I was...too scared of the consequences of telling them that I was Ladybug. Soon, they saw me as the villain that Lila painted me as.”
Bruce was surprised at the amount of hatred at the name. He mentally noted the name to find out if it was related to what caused Maria to be this jaded. He had turned off the comms, in case she didn’t want the others, especially Jason being an overprotective big brother who would kill Bruce if he thought he made her cry, hear her long-overdue breakdown.
“I didn’t believe it when Chloe said that they didn’t even come to…. my funeral…. or visit my grave. Jason told me…. that they were going to…. sell all of my things…. if Nonna ….didn’t take them…. and put them…. in storage. The….worst thing... is that…. I still love them.... After all…. the terrible things….they said to me, I…. still love them and…. it... hurts so much to see… their looks towards me ….before I...left.”
She tried to hold in her tears and control her sobs but they escaped. Bruce felt awkward with what to do. He put his hand on her back and rubbed in gentle circles.
“Hey, it’s okay. You can let it all out. It’s okay to be sad. Um…Shoot. Dick is usually the one doing the comforting.” She lets out a small laugh.
He turned her chair around so their eyes met, her blue eyes gleaming from unshed tears. He put a hand on her shoulder, rubbing it, trying to give some sort of comfort.
“You did what you thought was best with a lot of responsibilities on your shoulders. You did your best to protect them. Sometimes, trying to protect the people you love can end up hurting them whether you meant to or not.”
She leaned towards him, careful of his wound and cried. It was like a dam had broken down. All the emotions that she had repressed for so long bursted out of her. Bruce hugged her and whispered words of comfort, things Alfred had told him after another nightmare as a child, until her sobs calmed down. He wasn’t an entirely emotionless man like so many had believed. He was just bad at showing them.
Comfortable silence settled between them, the bats above them squeaking and the sounds of the others talking over the comms, coming from the Bat-computer.
After a while, Bruce spoke.
“I lost my parents to a man desperate for money. I spent a lot of time raging at the world. I felt the same thing again when I lost Jason. I became Batman to fight against crime so no one else can feel what I felt that night in the alley, so no one has to hold their child in their arms, bloody and broken. It’s okay to feel mad at the world after you lost everything you love and care about. And I can promise you that it will get better. It might take a long time before the pain is gone. Some days, it’s a dull ache. Some days, it would be so hard to breathe. Just remember that it will get better and we will be here to help you get there. Jason definitely will. Dick too. The others will probably be as bad as comforting as me but they will still do it. Except maybe Damian. But the point is, we are here for you. Okay?”
He felt her nod. They stayed like that with Bruce occasionally reporting to the others when something was happening. Maria later joined in and thankfully, they didn’t comment on the occasional crack in her voice although Jason sounded like he wanted to know what had happened.
“So...It’s okay if you don’t want to answer now but why couldn’t you tell anyone about your identity? Wouldn’t it have been better if someone knew your identity and provided support? I had Alfred when I started out and the kids had me.” Bruce asked as he looked through CCTV footage of a break-in.
She lets out a small tired sigh, a sound not meant to come from a teenage girl, “It started with the previous Guardian, Master Fu. He made the rule of not telling anyone. It was later because Hawkmoth could akumatized anyone and anyone who knew could lead him to us directly and he might threaten our friends and family for the Miraculous. He already did it to someone who ‘claimed’ to be Ladybug. Then, there was an alternate timeline where Chat Noir, my partner, found out my identity and dated my civilian self to get close to me. It nearly ended in the destruction of the entire world.”
Bruce scowled at what Maria had been through. Jason had told them about Hawkmoth, the betrayal of her partner and how she died. But today proved that they had barely scratched the surface of her tragic past.
“Why did Hawkmoth want the Miraculous so bad?” He said it, partly to change the subject and partly to get more information on what happened in Paris.
“He wanted the Ladybug and the Black Cat. Combining the two of them would grant him a wish, one that could alter reality as he sees fit. There is a catch though because the universe demands balance, something equally devastating would occur to counteract it. From what the Kwamis told me, Atlantis sinking was one of the results of a wish made by the Miraculous.”
“It doesn’t look like he is paying for it.”
“Oh he will.” Her tone made it sound like a fact.
“How are you so certain?” “Because the universe is all about balance and I have been tasked to right the scales.” The sharp grin she wore mildly worried Bruce. Her previous statements of not killing anyone echoed in his head and he wondered if she was going to hold to that promise.

Marinette "Valkyrie" Wayne

"I told you she was suspicious, Father,” she overheard Damian tell Bruce one day.
“Why did you say that? You never gave me proof.”
–ONE MONTH AGO–
“Dupain-Cheng?” Damian rapped lightly on the door. It swung open a little, so he entered to deposit the freshly ironed shirts Alfred had given him to return.
She wasn’t there, so he left the pile on the chair.He noticed the book on her bed, spread open halfway through. The jacket wasn’t the same colour as the cover underneath, which was unusual.
Damian picked it up. The jacket said, “10 Ways to Make Friends in Two Days,” but the book inside was titled “Smears, Spray, and Splatters: The Guide to Determining Blood Spatter at the Crime Scene.”
Curious.
“Who is it?”
Marinette’s voice startled him. In the dark, he hadn't seen her come in, and she entered quietly, not with her normal loose, noisy steps. She’d been hanging out too much with Cass.
The fairy lights overhead caught the glint of the knife in her hand, partially tucked under her hoodie sleeve. He hadn't seen any weapons on her before.
“It’s Damian. I’m just returning your laundry. I apologize for prying – I was curious which book you were reading.” He set the book down how it had been, pretending he was only looking at the cover.
“If you would like a friend, I have one I would enjoy giving to you.”
She cracked a small smile at that and said, “Sure.”
Somehow the knife had disappeared.
“Thanks for bringing my laundry.”
He nodded and edged past her.
Curiouser and curiouser.
–NOW–
Jason walked into the Manor. “Why did you want this puppy, B?” he called. “Demon Spawn has enough animals running around, don’t you think?”
He and Marinette met at the base of the stairs, staring at each other.
“Aw, no, not another one. Seriously, B?!”
“Who are you?”
“Jason Todd. Who are you?”
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng. You’re the one that died?”
“You’re the one that’s new?”
They nodded at each other.
“May I see the dog?” she asked.
“It’s a Beauceron puppy,” said Bruce, entering the foyer. “Hello, Jaylad. Thank you for bridging the dog for Marinette.”
She looked at him. “For me?”
“Yes. I thought you would prefer a puppy so you could train it as it grows. He’s currently nine weeks old.”
“Merci beaucoup!” Marinette flashed the two men a blinding smile and sat on the last step, cuddling the puppy. “I’m going to call him… Kismet.”
“Kismet,” repeated Jason and Bruce. “I like it.”
Jason took her to a couple stores so she could get things for Kismet while he got to know her. They returned to the Manor a couple hours later, their arms full of paraphernalia and iced coffees in hand.
Marinette set up the crate and bed at the foot of her bed, then put Kismet in and talked to him, running her hand through his soft fur as she did so.
When Damian heard the news he made a beeline for Marinette. “May I see your new puppy, Dupain-Cheng?”
“Sure, but after dinner. Kismet’s sleeping right now.”
For the next several weeks, books on training dogs constantly arrived in the mail. Everyone loved Kismet, but only Marinette taught him anything, so he wouldn’t get confused.
~
Three weeks after Marinette got Kismet, Damian brought his only friend over.
“Tt. Kent, this is my foster sister, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, and her puppy, Kismet. Dupain-Cheng, this is Jon Kent.”
“Hi!”
She turned to Damian. “Is this the friend you said you’d give me?”
“Yes.”
“Hi, I’m Jon, it’s nice to meet you.”
“Marinette. Superboy, right?”
“How’d you know?”
“I’m Delphi. And Oracle knows all,” she intoned spookily.
The boys ignored her dramatics, focused on petting Kismet.
~~~
“Guys, guess what?” Tim was unusually chipper at breakfast a few weeks later.
“Lex Luthor got arrested for tax evasion,” suggested Dick.
"Joker died,” said Jason.
“You solved the Dicelli cold case,” wondered Babs.
“Nonono! MDC collabed with Audrey Bourgeois to write a book, and it’s being published, to be released in November!”
“Who’s MDC?” asked Marinette.
Everyone gasped dramatically.
“Who’s MDC?! Only Jagged Stone’s niece and personal designer!”
“Oh. Her. What’s the book about?”
“Fashion, obviously, with a guide on how to pick appropriate outfits and mix-and-match fabrics and patterns. MDC is even gonna model a couple outfits, though no one knows who she is.”
“Sounds cool. I should buy a copy.” She returned to her breakfast.
~~~
“I’m going to New York for the weekend to visit my friend. I’ll be staying with her and her mom.” Marinette popped into Bruce’s office on her way out.
“Alright, have fun.”
Damian appeared out of nowhere. “You will not be joining Kent and myself at the Titan’s base this weekend?”
“Sorry, Damian, I already made plans with Chloe. Next weekend I’ll join you again. I thought you disliked me hanging out with Jon anyways?”
Damian mumbled something under his breath, thinking she wouldn’t catch it, but he didn’t know she had enhanced senses from holding the Miraculous.
“It’s because you two are so oblivious that it’s painful.”
“What was that?” she asked, confused.
“I said, you’re both so ridiculous it’s painful. When you are both hanging out with me, I must experience twice the stupidity.”
She rolled her eyes and dropped the subject. She didn’t have time to get distracted by Damian and his secrets.
Marinette took off on her motorcycle, then portalled to New York City when she was out of Gotham. She arrived at the Style Queen HQ, where Chloe and Audrey were. Chloe had moved to NY with Audrey when her parents separated a year ago.
“Maribug!”
“Chloebee!”
The two girls hugged, then went up to where the photo shoot for the book - “Effortless Style” - was taking place.
Jagged and Penny were there, as Jagged was in a few photos as well.
It was a very happy weekend.

Day 6: Party
WARNING: GRAPHIC VIOLENCE
Continuation of days two and three
Marinette grins at her reflection in the mirror. The costume was perfect- close enough to the original that you could tell who she was, but also with her own touch so that she didn’t hate looking at the costume. She’d even curled her hair slightly. The knock at the front door makes her squeal in excitement, knowing exactly who it is.
“Cass!” She cheers, opening the door and grinning widely at her best friend. Sure, Cass didn’t talk a lot (she was like Luka in that way), but she always seemed to know when Marinette needed help out of her own head. And she was eternally grateful for that. She was even more grateful that Cass had agreed to do a duo costume with her since Jason apparently didn’t want to dress up. He was ‘too old’ or something. Well, Marinette wanted to have fun and wear a damn costume.
“The suit is amazing! I’m not sure the cowl I made will be good enough for it.” Marinette says worriedly, examining the stitches on Cass’ costume. “Where’d you say you got this?” She asks, frowning. It was definitely higher quality than the Halloween store downtown. Cass just smiles, the one that basically says ‘not telling’. Mari just grins, used to it by now. She passes the cowl to Cass and grabs her own domino mask, sliding it on. Posing next to Cass in the full length mirror, Marinette takes a picture and sends it to the group chat that Jason had recently added her to. Dropping her phone into her purse and grabbing her keys, she turns to Cass.
“Ready?” She asks.
“Ready.” Cass says. Marinette grins. Look out, Gotham, Batman and Robin are out on the town.
---
Dick squeals as the picture comes through on the groupchat. He was beyond relieved that Jagged had scheduled his Halloween party two weeks before the actual holiday. It meant that he, and the rest of his brothers, could actually go instead of being on the extra patrols they always had to schedule around the holiday. Grinning, he opens twitter.
@flyingrayson
Look at my little sisters! Aren’t they the cutest?! #halloween #Waynefam #jaggedstone
[image description: One girl stands with a hand on her hip, dressed in what is obviously a spin on a Robin costume, including: a domino mask, black tights, dark red tunic with a Robin logo, gold belt, knee high emerald boots, and a dual sided cape black on the outside and gold on the inside. Another girl stands next to her with her arms crossed over her chest, dressed in what is obviously a Batman costume, including: black catsuit, yellow utility belt, black cape, and a redesigned black cowl.]
---
Marinette pecks Jason’s cheek and grins.
“What, not a Robin fan?” She asks teasingly at his frown. He huffs.
“Not really. More of a...Red Hood guy.” He says, and she snorts.
“Of course you’d like the one with guns.” She says, shaking her head with a smile. “His costume is actually probably one of my favorites. Well, besides the whole helmet thing.” Jason grins, pulling her in and giving her a sweet kiss before he glances behind her and groans.
“My brothers just walked in.” He says and she smiles.
“Go say hi, I’ve gotta go ask Uncle Jagged a question really quick. I’ll be right back and Cass and I can show your brothers our awesome costumes in person.” She says, pecking his cheek before walking away. She looks around for Jagged, but frowns when she doesn’t see him in the main room. Pulling out her phone, she sends him a quick text asking where he is.
In the garden with Fang!!!!!!!
She shakes her head fondly. Of course he skipped out on his own party to spend time with his crocodile. Smiling, she heads out to the garden to try and get to him. She’d wanted to see if the man planned on being in the US around Thanksgiving. Bruce had already invited her (probably to get Jason to show up) and said she could invite any of her family as well. Since her parents and superhero partner were both dead and her grandparents didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, she decided she’d really love Jagged and Penny to come instead. As she walks outside, she’s shocked that Fang doesn’t immediately run up to her.
“Uncle Jagged?” She calls, frowning. Where was he? And why was it so dark out here? Fang was scared of the dark. Jagged never would have brought him outside without more lights on, he was too protective of him. She tenses when she notices a slumped figure next to the bench Jagged had put in the gardens for when she visits. It was one of her favorite places to sit and design.
“Hello?” She calls, watching the figure for any movement. Seeing none, she steps closer and her stomach drops. Immediately she runs over and checks her Uncle for a pulse. She sighs in relief when she feels it, but the gash on his head is worrisome. How-
“Hello, Birdie!” An amused voice rings behind her, making her blood run cold. She whirls around and manages to catch a glimpse of the man’s pale face before a thick piece of metal flies at her head and the world goes black.
---
“Jaybird! Where’s Mari and Cass? They’re blowing up on twitter, even MDC liked my tweet!” Dick says happily, making Jason scowl.
“Did you seriously post my girlfriend all over your twitter?” He asks grumpily. Dick nods.
“Oh yeah. Her and Cass looked too cute to keep it to ourselves. Where are they anyway?” Dick asks, scanning the room.
“M said she needed to go talk to her Uncle about something. Personally, I think she was just avoiding you guys. You all crowd her every time you see her.” Jason reprimands, crossing his arms. Replacement rolls his eyes.
“It’s ‘cause she’s so much cooler than you. And she’s not an asshole like you are.” He says.
“Something’s wrong.” Cass says, suddenly appearing at Jason’s side. He jumps slightly, but then frowns at her.
“What?” He asks, surprised to see the deep scowl form on her face.
“Don’t know.” She huffs.
“Well if Cassandra believes that something is wrong, we should investigate.” Damian says, looking relieved that he wouldn’t be asked to socialize with anyone. A startled scream from outside makes the five vigilantes tense before running towards the noise. Jason curses when he realizes it’s Penny Rolling, Jagged Stone’s….something. She’s kneeling by a slumped figure, shaking it until a groan escapes it. Jason feels his blood run cold when the figure’s hair catches the light. It’s Jagged. Then where-
“Where’s she? Where’s she at?” Jagged slurs out, blinking wildly.
“Who?” Penny asks, gently holding the man’s face. Jason frowns at the gash.
“M. He wanted ‘er.” He says, and though the man is looking around crazily and slurring his words, Jason can tell he’s completely serious. And M-
“Do you mean Marinette?” Jason asks, stepping forward. Jagged frowns, but nods.
“Crazy clown.” He adds before turning and throwing up in the grass. Jason growls and turns on his heel, ready to go hunt the damned clown down. Out of everyone in this damned city that he could’ve targeted, why did he choose her?
“Jason, wait.” Dick says, grabbing his wrist. “We need to have a plan. Come on. You can’t just go out like this.” He reminds him lowly, Jason’s eyes narrow but he follows anyway. Might as well use the good tools. That fucking clown won’t make it to morning.
---
Ice cold water falls over her and Marinette sits up, gasping in shock at the sudden temperature change.
“Little cold, Birdie?” A voice asks before walking around and standing in front of her- a huge smile on his face and a thick piece of metal in his hands.
“Nothing I can’t handle.” Marinette says, trying not to let her voice shake. This was the villain. The one she never wanted to meet. The one that gave her boyfriend nightmares that he couldn’t explain to her. And now she was alone with him.
“If you’re sure, we could have some...fun before Batsy arrives.” He laughs.
“Why would Batman show up?” She asks. “You do realize this is just a Halloween costume, right?” She flinches as the piece of metal- a crowbar, she thinks shakily- stops inches in front of her face.
“How stupid do you think I am? Of course it’s a costume. A costume posted by one Dick Grayson. You’re a Wayne, somehow. And Batsy always shows up when a Wayne is involved.” Joker says, his twisted grin making her sick to her stomach.
“I’m not a Wayne! Batman isn’t going to come for me.” She argues, cursing her decision to not wear her earrings today. Some days were harder than others, especially leaving in a mask. Even if the mask was a costume. Every time she tried to put on her earrings today, she shook and started to panic. Granted, it was probably for the best. Because she would definitely be tempted to transform and she did not want to give Joker that kind of knowledge.
“Wayne or not, one of the bats will come. You have friends in very high places, Birdie.” Joker tuts, twirling the crowbar in his hand. She flinches as it nears her face, making Joker laugh. “If I wanted to hit you, I would.” He says. She doesn’t even have time to figure out what he means because her shoulder explodes in pain. The pain is blinding and she wants to scream but no sound will come out of her mouth as she gasps for breath.
“That’s no good. A silent bird is a dead bird. So sing, Birdie.” Joker demands, and he aims slightly lower this time, shattering her left arm. And she screams. The pain tearing at her throat nothing compared to the pain in her arm, her shoulder. She sobs, the shaking making the pain worse, but she was unable to stop. It hurt.
“S-stop!” She manages to yell, nearly biting her tongue when Joker grabs her chin and forces her to look up at him.
“Hmm. You’re right! The internet should definitely see this.” He laughs, pulling a phone out. She shakes her head, flinching as he whacks the crowbar against the floor near her chair. He points the phone at her, and she knows he’s recording. The bastard.
“Hello Gotham! Look at this little Birdie. I’m afraid she flew too far, and now we have to clip her wings.” He says, sighing as if he’s actually apologetic. He sets his phone up on the table and stalks over to her before turning and waving at the camera. She watches him move the crowbar around warily, her breathing shaky. God, she hoped Jason wasn’t watching this. Hoped he was somewhere safe, not trying to go do something stupid. She winces as Joker acts like he’s about to hit her, only to stop before the crowbar actually connects with her good arm.
“I told you, I’d only hit you if I wanted to.” He chuckles.
“Go to hell.” She spits out, ignoring the voice in her head (that sounded suspiciously like Tikki) telling her to shut up. To not antagonize the crazy man with the crowbar.
“Gladly.” He says with a grin, rearing back and swinging the crowbar out to hit her in the ribs. Her scream echoes around the room and she has no time to catch her breath before he’s attacking her ribs again. Tears stream down her face, but she can’t scream, she can’t even catch her breath. I’m going to die, she thinks, and the thought is terrifying. She didn’t want to die, she wanted to live.
---
“Do we have a fucking location or am I about to go shoot up every goddamned warehouse in this city?” Jason growls as he zips through the streets on his bike. He knew Babs and Alfred were back at the cave, watching the livestream and working to locate Marinette. And even though he couldn’t see the video, the audio playing through the comms was enough to make his stomach churn.
He didn’t give one singular fuck what Bruce said. He was going to kill that goddamned clown the minute he saw him.
---
Marinette glares at the Joker, barely able to keep her head up. For some unknown reason, he’d decided to use his fists on her face instead of the crowbar. Not that she was complaining. She wouldn’t have survived multiple hits to the head. Not with the force he had. She watches him, and she knows he’s saying something, but she can’t tell what it is. She’s too tired, too hurt, to care what he’s saying anyway. Unless it’s some magical cure to stop her from feeling like she’s broken into a million pieces, she doesn’t want to hear it.
Eyes wandering behind him, she’s relieved when she notices the costumed figure. The cowl, the cape- Batman did come. How strange. Though, she had assumed that Joker was live streaming. So that could definitely explain that one. Deciding she was out of immediate danger, she lets her eyes droop shut, reveling in the darkness that surrounds her. She let’s it stay, and she can feel things slipping away, some of the pain lessening. It’s nice, until someone is poking her and talking much too close to her. She lets out a whine as the person forces her eyes open.
“‘m tired.” She mumbles, wincing at the pain that comes with breathing, with talking.
“I know, kid, god I know. Just keep your eyes open.” A voice says. She blinks, the blue marks on the suit in front of her helping her to identify the vigilante.
“Couldn’t fight.” She spits out, tears springing to her eyes as her attempt at conversation makes her chest ache.
“But you’re fighting now, you’re staying awake. You’re doing such a good job, I’m proud of you. Stay awake kiddo.” Nightwing says quietly. She vaguely feels the ropes slide off her wrists and ankles. Fighting to stay sitting up, because slumping will hurt more than she’s willing to allow, she sighs.
“Jason’s gonna worry.” She mumbles, and Nightwing hums.
“Ambulance is almost here, kid, just stay awake.” He says instead of asking about Jason. She hopes Jason is okay. Hopes he isn’t mad at himself for letting her go talk to Jagged alone. Suddenly, sirens are close and she lets the world finally slip away.
---
The pain is the first thing that clues her in. She isn’t dead. Which is a relief. But the way her entire body aches, is not a relief. Forcing her eyes open, she sighs at Jason’s slumped form in a chair next to her bed. She wished she knew how long she’d been in the hospital so she could scold him. Because he was still wearing the outfit he had on at the party. Which meant he hadn’t given himself a break. Just as she’s trying to decide how to ask the nurses for pain medicine, Jason’s eyes open.
“Marinette!” He gasps, starting to lunge forward, then stopping himself. “I thought, god, M, I thought-”
“‘m okay.” She says softly, and he frowns.
“Okay? You were nearly beaten to death with a goddamned crowbar. You’re not okay.” He argues. She sighs.
“I’m alive, and I’m with you. I’m okay.” She insists, wincing. He looks like he still wants to argue, but stops himself. He scoots closer and holds her hand, kissing the back of it softly.
“I’ll never leave you.” He promises. She smiles softly, before falling back asleep, finally safe.
