Send me "alt!" and I'll introduce you to a character I've rped in the past, want to play in the future or are currently playing somewhere else! [ araya & shinki ]
When Araya walks down the street, he keeps his head down ( as is his nature ). Things had changed since the kazekage had taken araya under his wing. he was not the only one of lord gaara's children, but he had been the newest addition to the family. It made him feel like he belonged somewhere, even if it wasn't in the blistering sun. He preferred listening to music with Yodo over any wisecrack from the brats at the academy. Shinki was fine, too, he thinks warmly. And yet, he continues to observe as he goes about his tasks for the day.
He didn't have to go to the grocery store, but he liked to. he liked to pick out his own fruit, his own bread. Today he had another task in mind as well. He buys a large paper bag of sugar as his final item is checked from his list. When he gets home, he puts his fruit & milk away with the rest of their food.
Tumblr media
Araya glances around, extending his limited sensory abilities to make sure that no one else is in the house. Now is his chance. He takes his sack of sugar & slinks off to his room, tearing open the bag as carefully as possible. There is a careful 'wrrrrrrrrp' but he takes great care in trying to preserve the silence of an empty house. He doesn't want anyone to be able to sneak up on him, after all.
Araya had always lingered on the outskirts of society, feeling much more comfortable looking in from the outside. In theory, social finesse looked fun. When he would watch kids his age giggling at each others' jokes, their laughter was like a distant sort of music. It was different than sharing earbuds with Yodo. But partaking in such things was never one of his forte's. Araya had always been much more content to watch their happiness than to take part in it. He had his own, private delights.
He drags a few boxes from beneath his bed, crawling on his stomach to the edge of his bed against the wall. There is a crack where the flooring meets drywall, one that is already covered in ants. They had already devoured his last offering, he loved to watch them. He pours all the contents of the sack of sugar in the corner under the bed, engrossed by the action at hand. He's not sure how long he remains this way, but he is content.
" They sell ant farms, you know. " A familiar voice from his windowseal. It catches him off guard causing Araya to jump up & hit his head on the bottom of his bed. He reluctantly pulls himself away from his colony, rubbing the back of his head with despair. beneath his mask, his nose wrinkles as he see's Shinki. He loved his brother, there was no denying that. But this? This was irritating. Of course, he knew about Araya's private delight, Shinki had a way of knowing everything.
Tumblr media
" I don't like buying things. " his voice is flat but defensive. It was a blatant lie. He just liked this. cultivating his own colony, seeing what other bugs crawled through his sugar-coated promised land. Shinki drops from the window he was invading from.
" You bought the sugar. " There is a telltale way Shinki's voice dips, knowing that he has Araya in that moment. Araya opens his masked mouth the continue to defend himself, but he's stopped by Shinki, " I wont tell anyone. "
Araya pauses," Promise? "
Shinki waits," Pinky. "
They lock pinkies & the deal is made. Araya is satisfied.

honestly Noragami deserves some kind of an award for being the most intense downward spiral of "it can't get any worse than THIS, right???" I've ever read. I haven't known peace since Kazuma did that stupid spell on Yukine and it's only gone downwards from there

And that’s why Shinki uses Iron Sand to control his puppet
some puppetry headcanons under read more :)
Puppetry requires a level of fine chakra control on par with medical ninjutsu, in addition to a deep understanding of chakra flow manipulation, chakra networks, and an understanding of human anatomy and physiology to make poisons. This is why many accomplished puppeteers can double as medical nin (like Chiyo). Therefore, it’s an incredible difficult art to learn and most do not advance beyond the mastery of one puppet.
Kankurou, as a genin, could use two puppets in tandem and as a jounin, could use three. By the time the 4th War rolls around, he had five puppets in his arsenal. It’s unknown whether he can use more but it’s an indicator of immense skill to be able to use more than one puppet (e.g Chiyo’s 10 puppets and Sasori with 100+). But Kankurous has incredible control over human chakra networks as well as he is seen to connect his threads to people, which only Chiyo has been shown to do. Sasori even praised Kankurou’s control when he connected his threads to Sasori’s and yanked him into the pit.
Shinki is a very talented young shinobi with strong chakra, but like Gaara, his power lies more in might and less in fine control. Gaara does have extremely fine control, but Shinki’s is not as good (at least not yet). So learning to use chakra threads is a challenge for him. Eventually, Kankurou makes a puppet that allows Shinki to manipulate it with his Iron Sand

Yukine's journey toward acceptance of the life that was robbed of him, this time with finality, exemplifies the emotional and beautifully rendered arc that has defined his character.
Yukine finally accepting the reality of his death. Yukine stepping out from the fridge that contained memories of what was once his life. Yukine freeing himself from the shackles of his trauma. Yukine running to protect the person who cherished him the most in the world. Yukine standing up to an abusive father. Yukine wholeheartedly apologizing. Yukine's growth, and Yato tearing up as he stretches his little arms to pull him for an embrace.
Yukine's gratitude for what Yato did for him is evident throughout the series. He was given a name more precious than any other. He was treated like a human--an ordinary teenage boy. And life after that was one exciting journey after another. Now, Yukine can no longer be entirely consumed by the horrors of his past because he knows that his reality with Yato is so much brighter. Far brighter.
Yukine could break out from that refrigerator because of the true, sincere, and nurturing love shown by the only father figure in his life. Yato has said multiple times throughout the series that Yukine was his priority above all else, and Yukine was the only person he swore to protect the most. Hell, he even went straight to hug him after Yukine apologized for turning into that form! Yato did not need to summon Yukine. Yukine came to protect Yato on his own decision. As he always did.
The journey to their healing will be painful, and this chapter shows that Yato and Yukine will face it together. No more secrets and no more miscommunications. They will help and be by each other's side as they always have, not only as god and shinki but, this time, as family.

Some key takeaways from this moment:
1. We have confirmed the existence of two brushes.
2. The first one is an "ancient" brush. But how ancient? And what was it used for that so greatly removed it of it's power that the Crafter felt he needed another one?
3. Amateresu acknowledges that the true Calamity was never Yato, but the Crafter. Yato is not a god of Calamity, he is a god that slays Calamity.
4. Even though "Hakki" was made in a fashion that would be abominable in the eyes of the heavens, Amateresu commends her actions as well as Yukine, a bonafide Hafuri vessel, which says alot about Amateresu's opinion of her.
4.5. She talks about "Yato-gami" like the concept of him is dead, but is the person of him dead, or just the nickname he went by?
5. Back to point 2—what was the ancient brush used for, and why would the Crafter hold onto it? Could it be that its power was used up doing something MAJOR, and to not hold onto it and risk destruction be risking breaking whatever curse it was sustaining? Was the Tsukiyomi theory right all along, and the Crafter used the brush in ancient times to "overwrite" his true name? Does that give greater meaning to these two scenes?
From this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. After the Crafter is destroyed and his false reality is broken, BOTH Koto-no-has began to fade away. Yato was only beginning to disappear while IN that false reality, so even if he really was Tsukiyomi all along, it makes sense that he would start to disappear in the world in the same way Hiyori became a shinki—temporarily and illegitimately.
7. AND if Yato is a facsimile of Tsukiyomi (Amateresu's brother) then it makes sense why she would seem so confused about his name "Yato" when he has an audience with her. After all, if she knows his true name, then why ask here? (She later goes on to prove to the Heavens that they are innocent with the trial in Chapters 70-71).
Tumblr media
What are your thoughts? Amateresu knows a lot more than what she has said. Now that the ancient Koto no Ha is broken, what does that mean for Yato?

Ever since you began dating Yato, things have become complicated.
He was the first person to love you for as long as you could remember. In all the chaos of helming your new life; he was your guiding light. Sure, he was a crybaby at times. Clingy and shameless when he drank but gentle and reassuring when he needed to be.
You fell for him, naturally. What was there not to love? But this was hardly your little secret. Considering you were Yato's shinki, he comprehended every emotion you discerned.
You could still remember watching Yato whirl his head in your direction. There was a very prominent flush to his cheeks as he gawked in your direction. He took a step toward you, azure eyes swirling with joy as he stammered,
"You… lo-love me…?"
Before you could even respond, Yato cupped your cheeks, pulling you in for a chaste kiss. Your eyes were blown wide as you shared such an intimate embrace.
After that moment, Yato confessed to you. He blabbered on and on about how he'd loved you for as long as he could remember. Your relationship blossomed from there, and four months later… another little secret crept up.
Your feelings toward your boyfriend developed into something more filthy. You could not help yourself. The closer you became, the more you craved his touch. So the first time you blighted him over it— Yato kept it a secret.
Heat swirled in his abdomen when Yato realized you had a dirty thought about him, slightly dulling the pain from the blight. The tips of his ears turned red, cock twitching under his tracksuit as he began to sweat. You gave Yato a puzzled look as he excused himself, feeling extremely concerned at the sight of his disheveled state.
When you asked him what was wrong, he just brushed it off like it was nothing. Yato explained that he just needed to grab something from upstairs. In truth, he was going to your shared bedroom to relieve himself. Yato couldn't remember the last time he felt sexual desire— authentic sexual desire.
Sure, he made cheeky comments to you here and then, but it was all in good fun. There was no weight behind those words at the time. But knowing that you thought of him in such a desirable way and feeling it— proved to be too much for Yato.
The moment he got upstairs, Yato slumped to the floor. Not daring to tug off his tracksuit all the way as he fisted his cock. Barely lasting more than a minute in his ministrations before he came all over his fist, biting his lip harshly to suppress his moans.
Yato felt dirty once the aftershocks of his orgasm dissipated. He felt guilty for getting himself off to the thoughts you had about him. But as more time passed and your relationship progressed, you began blighting him nearly every day. He managed for a while, trying his best to keep it from you. But one night, while you were lying in bed with your boyfriend, you saw the damage you caused to his body.
You were straddling his hips, tickling him playfully, and giggling at his cute reactions. But when your hands dipped under his plain white tee, exposing his midriff, you saw the welt.
Immediately, you halted in your movements. Your laughter died out on your tongue as you pulled Yato's shirt higher, gasping as you saw how the bruise stretched up his torso. You felt the tears well up in your eyes, gaze entirely fixated on the deep purple marks littering his porcelain skin.
"Baby… It's okay."
Yato said sternly. He knew you were spiraling— he could feel it. He tugged the hem of his tee from your grasp, covering his blighted skin from your blurred vision.
"No… It's not! Why didn't you tell me… I'm so sorry."
You tried to compose yourself. The last thing you wanted was to cause Yato any more harm with your tumultuous emotions. Yato brought his hand to your cheek, wiping a stray tear away.
"I… was too embarrassed. Plus, I didn't want you to worry about me."
He confessed. Tilting your chin up, forcing you to meet his gaze.
"Why were you embarrassed? You weren't the one having bad thoughts about your partner…"
You scrunched your eyebrows in disgust as the words slipped past your lips. You felt ashamed, wanting nothing more than to crawl into a deep dark hole.
"Because," Yato's face turned crimson as he took in a sharp breath before continuing, "I'm… I've never… done anything with anyone before. So feeling those emotions that you have for me just—" You brought your hands up to his lips, stopping him in his tracks.
"I'm sorry. I promise you I'll be more careful from now on. The last thing I want is to hurt you any more than I already have."
Yato pulled your hand away from his lips, not before leaving a gentle kiss on your knuckles. He sighed deeply, letting his hands trail down to your waist before he spoke up.
"Baby… I don't want you to beat yourself up over this. Another reason I didn't bring this up to you is because… I'm scared I won't be able to satisfy you in that way… and all I want is to make you happy, my pretty girl."
Yato confessed, drawing soothing circles into your hips with the pads of his thumbs. Your heart pounded against your chest. You didn't want him to feel like his efforts wouldn't be enough for you in the sexual department.
"Yato… you always make me happy… and trust me, you could never disappoint me. I haven't been with anyone in that way, either. We can navigate through this together."
Yato pulled you close, craning his neck up to capture your lips. Your words reassured him in a way he needed more than anything. Your hands came up to wrap around his neck as you deepened the kiss, involuntarily grinding your hips down into his lap.
Yato let out a whine. Breaking away from the kiss and averting his gaze from yours. Experimentally, you ground your hips down once more. Watching his face contort in pleasure as your clothed core rubbed along his semi-hard cock.
"Babe… I won't last long if you keep doing that."
Yato huffed, tightening his hands around your hips before flipping you both over. Now you were the one underneath him, safely surrounded by his embrace.
"Let me make you feel good, baby. I'm a quick learner, promise."
Yato smirked playfully, offering you a wink. You felt your nerves ease up at his gentleness with you. It was just him, the love of your life. You had no reason to be insecure around Yato.
Slowly, he lifted your shirt over your head. You watched as he trailed his gaze lower, letting his hands dance along the waistband of your pants. You raised your hips, allowing him to tug your pants and panties down.
"So beautiful…"
He muttered, bringing his hands to his frame. Yato quickly rid himself of his tracksuit and his boxers. Knowing you would feel more at ease if you were both naked.
"Yato… you're so handsome."
You smiled up at him, beckoning him closer. Your arms wrapped around his neck once more pulling him down so you could feel his skin collide with yours.
"Look who's talkin'! Wait, not saying you're handsome— but even if I did, that would be okay. I meant to say, you're stunning— breathtaking… you're perfect, baby."
You couldn't help but giggle at his nervous ramblings. You soothed your hands through his hair, pulling him in for a chaste kiss, attempting to calm his anxieties.
"Yato, sweetheart, relax. It's okay, you're doing so well."
He took in a breath, nodding his head in agreement. Before he could embarrass himself further, he let his hands roam up your body. You let out a soft whine as his hands cupped your breasts and tightened the grasp you had on his dark locks.
"S-Shit… so good."
You mewled, arching your back as his thumbs swiped over your nipples. His touch sent pleasurable shockwaves up your spine, and the moment his lips came down to your tits, you cried out. His azure eyes were locked onto yours the whole time, gauging your reaction as he took one of your nipples in his mouth.
"Y-Yato!"
You whined. You could feel your slick dripping down your thighs as he switched to your other breast, repeating the same actions. You clenched around nothing as you felt Yato humming against your nipple, noticing his hips were moving from below. He was rutting against the bed, trying to alleviate himself.
"Yato- please… more!"
You begged. Tugging his head off your chest from the grasp you had in his hair. His gaze was dark, eyes half-lidded as he smoothed his hands down your sides. Yato crept lower down your shared bed, resting his head atop one of your thighs before he asked,
"You ever touch yourself down here, baby?"
He pushed the thigh he was not resting on aside. Allowing himself to take in the sight of your slick pussy. Yato felt his cock throb at the view, as he brought his thumb up to spread your folds apart. He smiled to himself as you gasped before you stuttered out,
"Y-Yes! All the time… especially when I-I think of you." You confessed, watching your hypnotized boyfriend explore your most private parts.
"Oh, is that so, huh? Tell me how you like it, baby. Let me make you feel good." Yato kissed your inner thigh as his lithe digits gathered up your slick, experimentally prodding at your entrance.
"Does it feel good when I press inside… here?" You gasped as one of his fingers slipped inside your sopping heat. Yato watched your pussy with much fascination as he clumsily found a rhythm.
"Feels so good! Your fingers are much l-longer than mine— hah, add one more— please!" His ring finger slipped in with ease slotting next to his middle finger, which was nestled deep inside you.
Your mind was reeling as he finger fucked you tenderly. You could tell he was trying his best to please you, azure gaze flickering between your face and your greedy pussy.
"Curl them a little when you push up— mhm, just like that… yes, yes, yes!" Watching your face contort in pleasure and feeling your pussy clamp around his slender fingers was enthralling. Yato was entranced by you.
"Yato— ah, I'm… I-I'm cumming!" Your back arched as your thighs shook underneath you. Yato watched in awe as your cunt clenched around his fingers like a vise while you gushed all over his palm. He thought you looked so beautiful like this, and pride swirled in his chest at the prospect that he was the one making you feel bliss.
Yato's fingers stalled inside you before he slowly pulled them out of your slick hole. You sat up as you caught your breath, reaching out to pull Yato in for a kiss. He craned his neck as you shared a passionate embrace, shifting up from his position on the bed.
Your hands came down to glide over his sides carefully, not wanting to bring him any more pain. You avoided the blights the best you could as your hands danced along his hips before grazing over his leaky cock. Yato gasped against your lips as you experimentally made a fist around his dick.
You glided your hand up and down his length as Yato continued to cry out against your lips. This went on for a few beats more before Yato pulled away from you, wrapping his hand around yours. Stilling your movements against his cock.
"Wait… if you keep doing that— I'm not gonna last…" Yato whispered, a deep blush decorating his cheeks once more as he averted his gaze from yours.
You nodded at his words, retracting your hand around his cock before Yato blurted out, "Baby… are you sure you wanna do this— with me? We could stop now if you—"
You brought a finger up to his lips once more tonight, silencing him. Yato knit his brows together in confusion before your words pulled him out of his thoughts.
"I want this more than anything. I love you, Yato. From now until forever… so please—" It was his turn to silence you, stealing one more kiss from you as he slowly guided you back against the bed. Yato caged you in, letting his one hand caress your hip as his other hand slipped in between your bodies.
Yato grasped his cock, breath hitching against your lips as he lined himself up to your entrance. Your hands found comfort enveloping his neck, carding your hands through his dark locks as the tip of his cock pushed past the tight ring of your pussy.
Yato whined as he broke away from the kiss. He scored his bottom lip with his teeth as his gaze flickered lower. Watching as he sunk into you, inch by inch, until he filled you to the hilt.
"Oh, baby… y-you feel so— hah, don't think I…" You tilted his chin up, capturing his gaze once more before you whispered, "It's okay… me too."
He gave you a short nod before he reeled his hips back, letting out a string of curses as he slammed himself back inside your wet cunt. Your legs came up to wrap around his waist as Yato repeated his actions. Pulling out, tip catching the tight ring of your pussy before thrusting himself back into you.
"Feels so good… Y-Yato! Down here," You paused— bringing one of his palms to your lower tummy. You positioned his thumb against your clit before you continued, "Feels good when I rub this spot right— hah, h-here."
Yato took the hint, fervently rubbing messy circles into your clit as his rhythm became sloppy. You could tell he was nearing his end, and with the newly added pressure to your puffy bud, you weren't too far behind.
Before you could warn your boyfriend that you were close, he let out a pitchy whine as his hips stilled. "Baby t-too tight— ah!" He came with a cry of your name, and the feeling of his seed filling you up proved to be too much to handle. His thumb continued to rub your clit as you came around his cock.
You pulled him to your lips, sharing a messy embrace as you convulsed around him. Your eyes rolled back into your head at the sound of Yato whimpering against your lips and the feeling of his cock still twitching inside you as the last ropes of his cum dribbled out.
You pulled away from his lips when the rubbing against your clit made you shake. You pushed his hand away from your pussy as you attempted to catch your breath, staring up at him lovingly. "You did so well, baby. Felt so damn good, you're perfect in every way!"
Yato exclaimed, smiling down at you brightly as he pulled out of you slowly. His eyes flickered down, watching as your combined arousal flowed out of your spent pussy, causing a blush to wash over his face; once more tonight.
"Ah.. I'll go get you a towel! Hang on, babe!" Yato stammered, quickly darting up from the bed. He pulled his boxers over his hips as he stormed out of the room before you could say another word.
You could not help the giggle that slipped past your lips. Yato kept saying you were perfect, but in your eyes? He was the perfect one. You loved him through and through, and becoming one with him made your adoration for him grow fonder.
"Yato! When you come back, let's take care of those blights!"

Gets heated toward the end :)
———————————————————————
It feels like there are millions of eyes on me as I cut up Yoshiki's fruit to have with his breakfast. The three chefs of the kitchen along with my handmaid - Gou - all look at me like I've grown a second head. I've grown used to the looks over the past week. Apparently, no one in the palace ever does anything for themselves, besides me, I guess.
"Darling?" Gaara calls again, pulling another annoyed sigh from me. "My darling, please acknowledge me."
"What is it that you need?" I grumble, continuing to chop up the fruit. Things were going well between us. Gaara was succeeding at giving me space and every night this week he has crawled into my bed to cuddle for a while... then this morning when he came to greet Yosh he asked me what season I'd like to have the wedding. Talk about knocking us back to square one.
"I wish to apologize."
"What?" I asked, snapping my head towards him in a bit of disbelief.
"I have been reading about relationships. It seems that my constant conversation about marriage is making you feel trapped, that is not what I'm trying to do. So, I would like to apologize."
"Uh - okay?" I mutter, quickly blinking at the ginger standing next to me.
"I am sorry for making you feel trapped. I would like you to know that you are free to come and go as you wish. You are free to do as you wish..."
"But?" I ask, Gaara's gaping mouth and his flickery eyes giving away to the add-on he's struggling with.
"But, my darling, with me being the Kazekage and us being... there are dangers to Yoshiki and you all over the Great Nations, including our nation and... I don't want you upset but I would like a guard to join you when you go out if Shinki and me are not coming along with you. I'm sorr - "
"That's understandable," I cut him off, swiping the cut fruit off the cutting board and plumping it into a bowl. "I don't know anything about the village so even if a threat did rise I wouldn't have any chance, so that's not an unreasonable request."
"Oh," he whispers, slowly blinking at me as the gears in his head shift. "I am glad that we agree."
     "Me too."
Gaara stays put, the two of us watching as Yosh eats his scrambled egg and diced fruit. "Gaara?" I call after a couple of minutes.
     "My darling?"
"I should apologize too," I murmur, turning my focus towards him.
"What do you have to apologize for, my dear?"
"I'm sorry I tried to hit you last week. I shouldn't take my anger out on you in the first place and I really shouldn't take it out on you like that. I'm sorry for making things difficult for you too. I wish I was ready to get married but... I'm just not there yet."
"It's alright, darling. When you are ready, I will be here waiting," Gaara mutters, face scrunched up as his hand slowly moves forward. It lands on top of my head, softly patting me as his face unscrunches. "I would like to take you on a date tonight. I would also like to buy you a new outfit for our date but Shinki thinks you'll just buy it for yourself, so I already did. If you do not like it, I shall return it and find you something else."
With that, Gaara kisses the top of Yoshiki's head before turning on his heels and disappearing from the kitchen.
My eyes flicker back to our son who's having the time of his life squishing his egg into the plate of his high chair. "Yosh," I call, his head picking up and a huge smile crossing his face once he realizes I'm the one who called him. "Papa is going to take me on a date tonight. What do you think of that?"
"Baabaa," his voice rings out, trying to say 'papa' like his older brother does.
"Yes, Papa. Who am I? Am I mama?"
"Baabaa," he repeats, smashing his fork into his dismembered egg.
I smile at my boy, enjoying the sweet moment we're sharing. Gaara's talk of the future might terrify me but I can't wait to see the man our son will grow into.
———————————
The yukata got me is beautiful and probably worth a pretty penny. Gou is tucked behind me, pinning the white material stamped with red flowers to my body. "Gou?"
"Yes, my last?"
"How much do you think my yukata cost?"
"I think Lord Fifth paid eighty-two hundred yen for it, I'm not sure though," she mumbles around the pins in her mouth.
"Oh," I mutter, looking over the outfit in the body mirror again. Gou has dolled me up and, my hair done with a matching pin through my locks. "Where's Gaara taking me?"
"I am not allowed to tell you, my lady. Direct orders from the Kazekage."
"Has Kankuro shown up yet?"
"Yes, my lady. Please stop worrying about Yoshiki and Shinki. They will be safe and cared for while you're out."
"I can't do that," I mumble to myself, shifting when Gou accidentally likes me with a pin. I'd rather Kankuro watch the boys than anyone else in the village, but I'm still not too fond of the idea. I know Kankuro even less than I know Temari, and I was overly anxious about leaving my son with her.
"What can't you do, my darling?" Gaara's voice rings out before his hands settle on my hips. They flutter a bit like he can't decide whether it's a good idea to be touching me or not.
"Calm down," I mutter, settling my hands on top of his, keeping them in place. My eyes scan over his image in the mirror, taking in the matching yukata he's wearing.
"Why can't you calm down?" Gaara asks, eyes flickering between us in the mirror and the wall of my bedroom.
"I'm just nervous about leaving the boys home with your brother."
"Do not take up your mind with worries. Kankuro would do anything for his nephews," he murmurs, trying a squeeze to my hips. When I don't tell him to stop, he squeezes me again... and again. "You look very nice, my dear. Are you ready to go?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," I murmur, slowly pulling away from his touch. His face scrunches from my movements, what I think is sadness covering his face. "Where are you taking me?"
"Tonight is the first day of the Prickly Pear harvest. A festival goes on every night of the harvest. We are going there, and then we will watch the stars as we wait for the fireworks."
"Prickly pear?" I ask, a giggle slipping out. What a weird name for a crop.
"Yes. They are pears that grow on a cactus. They have the same spikes as a cactus does, hence prickly pear."
I hum in amusement, making my way out of the room with Gaara in tow. "I've never had a prickly pear."
"We shall get you a prickly pear then," he mumbles, making me laugh again. 'Prickly pear' is a weird thing to hear Gaara say. "Come here, my dear. You are too far away from me," he grumbles, stepping forward quicker before his arm wraps around mine. "You need to stay close so you do not get hurt or lost during the festival."
"Is that the only reason?" I tease, tightening my arm around his as I shift closer to his side.
His eyes flicker to me before settling on our looped arms. "... yes," he whispers, head back on straight as he leads me down the hallway. "Perhaps not," he adds on, cheeks coated in a pale pink.
———————————
Gaara's eyes are locked on me as I enjoy the Prickly Pear Icy he bought me. It's not as exciting as I thought it would be. It tastes like a musk melon. "Do you like your treat?"
"It's good," I mumble around the popsicle. "I like the meat stuff on the stick you got me more though."
"Would you like more? We can go back to the booth," he rambles, head spinning as he looks for the meat-on-a-stick booth we were at a few moments ago.
"No, I'm good," I tell him, using the arm still looped through his to pull him closer. The attempt to calm Gaara works, he - mostly - settles down again. His eyes are still as sharp as a hawk, scanning the festivalgoers for any possible threats. "So, I don't know about you sandfolk, but in the Leaf, there's usual games and such to play too. Do you guys have that here?"
"Of course, what kind of festival would it be if we did not have games?" He grumbles, eyes flickering around the people that shift out of the way as we walk. "Is there a game you have in mind?"
"I don't remember what it's called, but you have these paper paddles and you try to catch a fish with them. If you win you get to take the fish home."
     "Kingyo Suku."
     "What?"
"The game you are speaking of, it's called Kingyo Suku," Gaara explains before he lets out a soft sigh. "One moment dear," he groans, tugging me in front of him before his hands settle on my hips. The man-handling and added weight to my hips make my chest - and a little more than that - flutter. "Hello Matsuri," He greets the person bee-lining for us.
"My lord," the girl greets back, bowing her head quickly before straightening up again. "And...?"
"This is... she's my... this is consort Kazekage," Gaara finally pushes out, stumbling over his words a bit.
The girl's eyes widen a bit, her smile wavering as she focuses on her village leader. "I didn't know you were married, Lord Fifth."
"I'm... not," he mutters, using his hold on me to pull me against him. "She is... what is it that I can help you with, Matsuri?"
"Oh! The word around the village is that you have a second son now," the girl's eyes flutter to me once the sentence is out, her jaw locking a bit before she turns back towards Gaara. "I was hoping to meet him."
"I do, yes. He is not here with us. I am hoping to introduce him to the village on the last night of the festival. I wouldn't want to take the light away from the village farmers today, and I still need to talk to his mother about her thoughts on it," He answers, his hands jumping up to my arms when he says the word 'mother'. "Soon enough my son will be officially announced, as will his mother, so do not worry."
"Oh great," the lady says, eyes stuck on me now. "What a... joy for the village. A new prince and our Kazekage has picked his consort."
"It is quite the joy, yes. Now please excuse us, I promised my consort a festival game." With that, the woman bows again and Gaara quickly shifts us away from her. "My apologies, darling," he mutters once we're out of her earshot, sliding his arm back around mine.
"What's a consort?" I ask, letting my eyes trail over the lanterns strung around the booths as I replay the interaction we just had. The girl was jealous of me, right? That's what that whole thing was, right? Or am I just reading into it? I think I'm reading into the situation too much.
"It is the royal title of the monarch's... partner. Usually a wife, but you have made it clear you are not ready for that, so you shall be introduced to the village as my consort instead of my wife." Gaara nods his head in agreement with himself, another one of his ticks that I don't quite understand.
"What's the deal with the girl that was talking to you?"
"She was one of my students."
"I think your student has a crush on you."
He falls still, eyes sharp and locked on me. "Does that upset you? Do I need to fix it? How would I go about fixing an issue such as this?" Gaara races out, his sight more intense the longer he talks. "I do not wish for Matsuri to have a crush on me, I wish for you to have a crush on me. My darling - "
I jump up a bit, plopping a kiss on his cheek before falling flat on my feet again, cutting off the panicked Kage. "Stop worrying, Gaara. I do have a crush on you and I don't care that Matsuri does. I was just curious."
"Oh," he whispers, blinking in his slow 'I'm trying to figure this out' way. "That is good news."
"Yes, it is," I mutter, curling my arms around his tighter, gluing us closer together. It's not a lie, I do like Gaara. He's grown on me over the past couple of months. He just has a tad of separation anxiety, terrible communication skills - as do I - and a small fear of abandonment, all of which we can work through. All of which scares me.
———————————
My eyes are turned towards the sky, enjoying the colorful explosions decorating it. Gaara and I are laid out on a sand dune a ways out from the village. He laid out a blanket underneath us to attempt to keep the sand off of us. Sand has a mind of its own so, of course, it's not working, but the attempt is sweet.
     "Gaara?"
     "Dear?"
"Do they have the fireworks every night of the festival or just tonight?"
     "Every night."
Slowly I slide my hand across the blanket, in search of his hand. When my fingers bump into his, Gaara stiffens. Despite his reaction, I carefully intertwine our fingers together, his body relaxing once our hands are tied together. "Gaara?"
     "My darling?"
"Do you think we can watch the fireworks again tomorrow?"
"Whatever you wish for I will make happen."
"You could have just said yes," I respond, stifling a laugh that threatens to spill out.
Our words fall silent, only the sound of the popping fireworks filling the space between us. The sky continues to be temporally decorated, bright reds, blues, yellows, and everything in between coating the sky.
Once the last sparkle of light falls from the sky, I turn my head towards Gaara, preparing to ask if he's ready to leave. When my sights settle on him, his eyes are already locked on me. I'm thankful for the darkness that hides the embarrassment crawling across my face. How long has he been looking at me? Why must he always be looking at me so tensely?
"My darling?" I let a hum out, letting Gaara know I'm paying attention to whatever he's going to say. "I... wish to cuddle in bed with you tonight."
"You usually do, Gaar. That's fine by me."
"No, not like that. I... do not wish to leave. I want..." His head turns away from me, focusing on the stars stamped into the black backdrop of the night.
I turn my head too, enjoying the clear skies of the open desert. "Do you want to sleep in the same bed? Is that what you're trying to ask?"
"... yes. If you do not want me to, I will not. I know you said you do not want to share a room."
I turn on my side, our connected hands stabbing into me because of the position. "Gaara?" I call, rubbing my free hand over his chest.
My view of his eyes is cut off as he blinks repeatedly, his chest jumping quickly, and his body going tense again. I move forward more, our noses bumping because of how close to his face I am. "My darling dear?" He breathes out, the words shaky as he scans my face.
The combination of my nicknames makes me smile, my tongue poking out to run over my bottom lip as the thought of kissing Gaara crosses my mind. "Ya, you can sleep in my bed tonight," I murmur, more than kissing slowly starting to fill my mind.
"I can?"
"Yes, if you want to. Do you want to?"
Gaara's head nods quickly, his nose switching from bumping into mine to bumping into my cheek because of his movements. His eyes are blown out as they look at me, a nice difference from the usual slit shape they hold. "Please?"
I let out a strained sigh because of the single word, the thoughts of marriage and another baby not seeming so scary anymore. This is how I got pregnant the first time. Well, not exactly, same feelings and thoughts as that night though. "Okay," I whisper back, starting to pull away so I can stand up.
The arm pressed under me jumps up, landing on my back and gently pushing me back into please. "Darling?"
"Gaara?" I ask back, our eyes locked, his slightly twitching like he's not sure what to do.
     "Just sleeping, yes?"
"Just sleeping," I echo, the smallest part of sanity pushing through the tension of the moment.
"Can I at least have a kiss? It is customary to have a goodnight kiss at the end of a date, yes?"
"Ya," I breathe out, Gaara's hand present on my back softly pushing me closer to his face.
"Then I would like a kiss... then we can go home," he mutters, his lips brushing mine as he speaks, his chest bouncing with anxiety. "And just sleep."
"And just sleep," I repeat, more for my benefit than his. If I say it enough maybe I'll believe.
The hand on my back slowly snakes up my body, ending its slithering on the back of my neck. Gaara's touch is soft and slow as he closes the lack of distance between us.
His lips are rough, bruised, and scabbed over. They taste like chamomile tea; apple-ly with a hint of honey. His hand gets rougher, pushing me against him more as he deepens our kiss. Gaara's tongue pokes out, teasing my lips apart. I give in, parting my lips a bit. His tongue slips in, toying with mine for a moment before he slowly pulls away from me. "Just... just sleep," he mutters, eyes hazy as he looks up at me.
"Just sleep," I repeat for the third time tonight, slowly pulling our bodies apart.
———————————
“This is not just sleep,” Gaara murmurs against my neck, his hands eagerly shoving the sleeves of my yukata down my shoulders, the material of it balling at my elbows. His lips travel down my neck, making quick work across my newly exposed skin.
“No, this is not just sleep,” I echo, my hands gripping the front of his clothing.
“We’re supposed to just sleep,” he continues to whisper, hands sliding across the door of the Hokage palace in search of the keyhole. “We should just sleep,” he adds, the sound of the key sliding into the lock filling the empty night air.
“Ya, we should… should just… sleep,” I whisper, tugging Gaara with me as the door swings open.
“Yes, of course. I have a busy day tomorrow,” he mumbles, the two of us stumbling down the hallway. His hands crawl across my body, tugging at my clothes, toying with the hems of it like he wants to slide his fingers under neither but isn’t sure whether he should or not. Our feet stumble just as much as Gaara’s hands, slowly moving us further down the hallway.
“I’m sure you do,” I scramble out, my hands falling to the front of my clothing, tugging on it to part the material covering my chest. “I… I’ll be up early for the boys, so… so we should go to sleep.”
“It would be better than fucking the hallway,” a deep voice rings out, cutting apart the tension growing between Gaara and me.
“Kankuro!” Gaara calls, his hands falling on top of mine, gripping them as he snaps my clothes shut again, effectively covering my bra. “How were the boys?” He grumbles, carefully fastening my yukata back in place.
“They were good, not as good as your night seems to be going,” Gaara’s younger brother chuckles out, finding his cock-blocking funny. “Yoshiki is fast asleep in his nursery, I just checked on him like five minutes ago. Shinki is asleep in his room, just checked on him too.”
“Thank you. Please see yourself out,” Gaara groans, his hands tightening and loosening around the material of my clothes.
More chuckles fall from the older man as he walks down the hallway, the sound of the door opening and clicking closed as he leaves.
“We… we should not just sleep,” Gaara mumbles, slowly tugging apart the front of my yukata again. His eyes scan my face as he does so, watching for my reaction.
“Oh ya? What should we do instead?”
Gaara’s mouth snaps open a few times, his answer stuck in his throat as his eyes jump from my face to my chest. “I should… should fulfill your… bedroom needs. Like last time I got to sleep in your bed. I would like… please?”
God damn it, at this rate, Gaara’s going to get his wish of having another kid before Yoshiki is four. “Whatever you wish for I will make happen,” I tease, repeating his words from earlier.

Promise to marry me...
Kankuro x reader through the eyes of Gaara, Gaara as matchmaker extraordinaire
Tumblr media
“I don’t think I’ll ever get married.”
Kankuro’s voice was muffled but the door had not been fully closed.
Gaara wasn’t one to eavesdrop, especially not in his own home, but the words made him stop.
“What makes you think that?” Hearing your voice surprised him even more.
He knew that you and Kankuro got along, but that a conversation like this at this time? Guilt pooled in his stomach as he realized that he probably shouldn’t be listening. But the far more powerful curiosity kept him where he was.
“Ah, you know. I’m a mess. You can’t tie me down. I love the freedom.”
“Oh, shush.” You tutted at him. “You’re just using empty phrases to cover how you really feel.” There was a moment of silence and Gaara told himself again that he had to move. This was a private conversation and yet, this felt like a conversation Kankuro should have been able to have with him, too.
“Would you want to marry me?” Kankuro’s voice was different now. It had an undertone to it that was raw and vulnerable.
“I’d marry you in a heartbeat.” You told him, your voice filled with conviction, yet the words sounded soft. “But it’s not about that, is it? It doesn’t matter how many people want to marry you. If it won’t make you happy, it won’t make you happy. You don’t have to be married to be happy, you know.”
“Are you happy?”
“Right now? Very. I have a job I like, great friends and I get to travel places without having to fear getting killed the next day. It’s pretty fantastic if you ask me.”
“Don’t you want children? A husband?”
“Maybe someday. But I don’t have any important genes I need to give to the next generation and I quite enjoy being the cool aunt to Shikadai and everyone else. But who knows, maybe when I’m older…”
“What if…” There was a beat of silence and when he spoke again, Gaara could hear Kankuro as he knew him. Filled with mischief and too many ideas.
“What if we made a pact? When we’re thirty and we want to get married but have no one, we’ll marry each other?”
You laugh. “Sure. I’ll hold you to that, old man.”
At that moment, Gaara pulls himself away. He’s heard too much already.
-
Eight years later, just after Shinki’s third anniversary with them, Gaara decides that he has to take matters into his own hands.
Kankuro hardly speaks about the subject of marriage and if he does, he jokes about it.
But Gaara, knowing what he does, can’t stand by and do nothing, when he can see the way Kankuro looks at Shinki or how he pulls back into himself whenever he notices a couple.
As his younger brother, Gaara has no business snooping around in Kankuro’s business.
As his Kazekage he has no right to do so either.
When he does, he convinces himself he’s doing it as a friend.
-
He’s left Shinki with Shikadai and Temari and has convinced Lee that he’s hanging with Naruto and Naruto that he’s training with Lee.
Kankuro had to stay back in Suna and Gaara’s thankful for that as he knocks on your door.
“What brings you here?” You ask, one of the few people in Konoha who don’t burden themselves with unnecessary politeness. “Tea?”
“I’d like that.” He lets his eyes wander. Your apartment is small, just big enough for one and an army of plants. He knows you’re single but he can spot an array of pictures on the bookshelves. Stepping closer he finds them to be you with different friends, the biggest one having been taken in Suna, eight years ago.
He remembers that day when Temari and Kankuro had dragged both you and him out for the sunset.
“How is he?” You ask as you hand him his cup of tea. “Kankuro, I mean? I heard he couldn’t come.”
“Physically, he is well.” He starts and you perk up immediately, watchful eyes focused on him.
“And emotionally?”
“He would not let me live if he knew that I’m telling you this.” He looks back at the picture and steels his resolve. “But he might be thinking about a certain pact you two made eight years ago.”
Your cup slips from your fingers. If not for his sand it would have shattered on the ground.
“How do you know-?”
“I was just walking to my room that day.” He tells you quietly. “I overheard only a little.”
“I-” You stutter and he nods.
“I am not saying that I know what he’s thinking. But I can tell that he’s lonely. And if you wanted to come back to Suna with us in a week… just for a short holiday, maybe, I’d be happy to arrange everything for you.”
“I have to think about that.” Your voice is raspy when you speak, breathless even.
He nods. “Do that. Don’t rush anything. Just know that you’re always welcome.”
-
Gaara is the only one not surprised when you decide that you’ll take an impromptu vacation to Suna. He does not tell Kankuro about it and has Temari swear on Shikadais life that she will not tell him.
There are moments where he wonders if he oversteps.
Moments where he thinks he will regret this - especially Temari’s moods.
But then the train halts in Suna and they can see Kankuro waiting for them.
Gaara steps out first, offering his hand to Shinki who refuses any help.
With one eye on his son and his other on Kankuro he knows the exact moment when Kankuro notices you.
“I think we’ll get some ice cream.” He tells Shinki softly as he steps to the side. “And let those two have some time together.”
No one protests.
-
Gaara is the only one not surprised when one week of vacation turns into two.
He is not surprised when you travel back to Konoha only to pack your belongings.
On your wedding day he thinks about telling Kankuro. What he heard all those years ago, what he did for his brother.
But he doesn’t. He just pulls sleeping Shinki a bit closer to him and watches the couple dance, thinking that if no one has to be lonely, the world will be a better place.

Noragami: Final Chapter thoughts
For the last time :') I've been making these for roughly half the manga's runtime, both in chapter count and years. Which is wild to think, but anyway, spoilers under the cut. One final time.
I really spent the first half of this chapter with bated breath alternating between being relieved that Hiyori is okay and grew up to be a doctor and everything, and stressed about where Yato was and where her memories were. Then Yato showed up, and I think I burst into tears out of hysterics. They really got me, I thought he was gone.
That aside, it was an excellent chapter. I was right when I said that this would just be an epilogue and the true suffering was over, but god. god. I'm relieved they gave me that open ending and the chapter was mostly good old-fashioned Noragami silliness. With the expected gut punches.
It's probably a good thing that Yuka never got to reunite with her brother, but at least knows that he's resting in peace. That he was given a proper burial by someone who, at the time, barely knew him but wanted to make things right anyway. Great now I'm crying again.
Hiyori's pocket with the little capyper keychain she bought forever ago. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Yato's CPR being so intense it cracked Hiyori's ribs. god he was so desperate to save her. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
HER TOUCHING HER LIPS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Fujisaki getting nostalgic seeing tall grass (as we know from the omake is called kaya) was weirdly touching. Though Father has faded, Kaya is the one that is still remembered. We never got to learn his real name, and while I am still curious about it, I can see the purpose--by not knowing his name, we the readers don't give him a lifeline.
That's not the only fourth wall lean in the final chapter. There was also Yato being able to save himself by becoming a meme, much like how the fandom and Adachitoka have memed on him for years as well.
Back to the chapter, it looks like Father's consciousness had always been lurking alongside Fujisaki's, maybe making him do things from time to time, which is really weird and creepy. Maybe he was dormant until the Yomi arc, but either way he's been doing this to a dozen other guys over the centuries. I'm glad the cycle was broken.
It's hilarious that Fujisaki tries to ask Hiyori out and she's just like haha not interested coo phone be upon ye.
I'm so glad the cherry blossom party has become an annual tradition with even more gods invited to the party. I'm also so glad that Yato refuses to release Kazuma and Bishamon apparently makes it a point to bully him about this whenever she sees him. But also, Kazuma doesn't seem to want to be released. He's just like yeah whatever man I'm glad you saved us. Cheers.
Side note, Kazuma's new glasses look a lot like the ones he was wearing in that 100 years ago flashback of him and Bishamon, around chapter 68 or 69 I think?
So we also get to see the aftermath of what happened to Yukine--he still transforms into a wolf every now and then, because much like how Nora transforms into a snakelike creature whenever she loses control of her emotions, his form is a wolf, and unlike Nora he's always been very emotional. So the nightmares come out and Yato's left with a giant wolf thrashing around in their shared living space lol, but at least his dad is there to hug him :')
WAIT STOP PAUSE EVERYTHING IT LOOKS LIKE THEY SHARE A BED NOW. I JUST COLLAPSED INTO A BALL.
Tumblr media
AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH
The panel of Yato hugging him made me lose it again. THEY'RE SOOOOOOOO.
So we never did get to find out what happened to Yukine's father--but as I pointed out in the reread I did during December, I don't think it matters. Yukine wasn't going to exact revenge on him anyway because he's not the kind of person to do so.
The page of Nora reading Hiyori's diary also made me so sad. Hiyori's right--she probably did have parents who loved her, but she never got to meet them. One thing I noticed throughout this manga is shinki habitually chasing something relating to their pasts. Yukine craves a good relationship with a father figure, Kazuma is obsessed with Bishamon because he missed out on marrying a girl he loved, Daikoku acts like a dad to every child he meets because he died before having his own kids, and like Yukine, Hiiro craves the parental love she never had. And as Hiyori pointed out, being given a name by Father was like being given life.
Since we didn't get to see what became of her name situation, but Yukine still bears the Hagusa name, she must still have Mizuchi. If her master is gone, can she still draw borderlines? Does she hang around with Yato and Yukine still? Adachitoka didn't say Kofuku DIDN'T name her, so...
The way Hiyori remembered Yato because of his scent had me SOBBING, yall. She didn't forget, but she did solve her problem and it was solved by people, just like they've been saying throughout the manga. But now, they can be together again. Yato was away from her for some years, and maybe he'll leave for several more (it's been a repeated thing in the manga that he'll insist he has to stay away for her own good), but the point is that even if it's been years and years, she'll always remember him. It's open-ended, but that just means it can be my preferred ending of Hiyori not forgetting but choosing to distance herself. She'll meet up with Yato and Yukine every once in a while living her own, separate, fulfilling life. They've been watching over her all these years anyway.
And so, that brings us to the close. It's as happy an ending as we could have possibly gotten, and above all else, I'm relieved. I've been saying for...years, probably, that I want an open ending, but I really thought it was off the table with recent events.
Final hangups are the same as they were in my final reread (tagged under #Noragami reread on my blog), so I won't repeat them, but the bottom line is that I got everything I wanted out of this ending--except maybe a trio hug? But that interior illustration of the four of them, all smiling and happy, Yato's arm around his sister, made up for that. I kind of wish there was a Yatori kiss for real, but the panel of her touching her lips also assuaged that.
Anyway, I'm not sure what other manga would/will make me unhinged enough to type up monthly thoughts posts for years, but I'll be tuned in to whatever new Adachitoka has coming up. Whether it's a full series, a short series, or just a oneshot, I'll be reading every word. I'm also looking forward to getting the final volume once it releases here, and praying for an artbook announcement.
Thank you for reading! I have some posts to make, some projects to plan, and I'll be diving into the tag once more for old times' sake. This won't be the last of me!

Reflecting on 107-2 so spoilers ahead.
I don't think this development goes against what's happened. It's supposed to highlight the tragedy of the circumstances. Yes both Hiyori and Yato agreed that she needed to live a long life even if that meant he & Yukine wouldn't be a part of it. However, we always always had reminders that being connected would bring danger. Tenjin repeatedly told Yato AND Hiyori. And despite knowing these dangers, they both still chose to be connected even after the Hospital arc. Even though they both tried going back to a life without the other, they still came back together in the end.
So, rather than this going against the lesson learned in the Hospital arc, it's more like follow through. They decided to still be connected. Hiyori decided to follow Yato & Yukine despite knowing it would mean not seeing her family again. Yato could not bear to see Trashdad corrupt her or mess with her like he did with Yukine & Hiiro, so he decided to make her his shinki.
But we knew it would not end with a happy ending, and here we are. We are left with the tragedy of this situation. Hiyori felt such love for Yato that she willingly put her life on the line, but now, as a Shinki, she won't be able to remember any of it. That is if she becomes a standard Shinki. Yato, if he survives, will have to live with the fact that his attempts to defeat his father, which stemmed from his desire to protect Hiyori and Yukine from Father, ended with the one he loved dying. Even if he knows now she loved him & willingly did it, he cannot address her as Hiyori or act the same as before.
The impossible happened. They are forever tied together. But it came at a cost, and a pretty big one. There were only ever two options: Hiyori & Yato had to cut their ties, or she would become a denizen of the Far Shore. I hate it, but this story had a tragedy tag for a reason.
TLDR: Rather than this development taking away from what occurred during the Hospital arc, I believe it actually follows through with the larger issue/danger that has always been looming over Yato and Hiyori.

1. At the beginning of the manga Hiyori meets Yato who was just passing by and saves him from being hit by a bus while he is chasing a cat. Thus their fates were intertwined
Tumblr media
2. Not forgetting that there is someone (a boy) she saved when the accident happened. But the next morning she forgets it and wonders why she jumped on the road, why was there a cat? She doesn't remember anything. But on her way back home with her friends, she slowly remembers that someone was following the cat yesterday when she saw a poster of a missing cat named 'Uesama'. She thinks that if she finds the cat, she will be able to remember.
Tumblr media
Unaware that her soul had slipped through her body…She followed the scent and met him. Then she saved him from an ayakashi.
Tumblr media
"THIS GIRL... SHE'S SAVED ME TWICE"
3. She brings Yato and Yukine to Kofuku's place. Yukine kept stinging Yato so much that he was going to kill Yato and had already become corrupted. Yukine had spawned ayakashi eyeballs on himself because of the sins he committed.
Tumblr media
Thinking logically, she didn't go to Nora because she knew Yukine would die if she brought Nora. She knows it's dangerous to go to the enemy side, but she calls Kazuma for help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She comes out and called out to him to stop. Hiyori states that Yato is like a father to Yukine and that he had done so much for him, putting up with his sins and blights and he didn't want to let him go, greatly affecting him.
Tumblr media
Again she saved them.
4. So when Yato and Bishamonten find themselves in the grip (or hairline) of an angry Izanami, it is Amaterasu who gives Kofuku and the others the idea to summon the soul. Soul Summoning involves calling someone's true name to bring them back from the yomi.
Soul summoning works for Bishamonten (because Bishamonten was her real name, among many others), but when Hiyori calls 'Yato' thinking it's his real name, it doesn't work. That's when everyone realizes that Yato has been hiding his real name from everyone. He was afraid that if they knew his real name and past, they would hate him and abandon him
Tumblr media
The (卜 boku) in "Yaboku" is a kanji that refers to "fortune telling" or "divining. It happens to look identical to the katakana (ト to), which is why Yato's alias up until now has been "Yato." Sakura, Yato's earlier shinki, read this name wrongly, interpreting the first part of his name as 'Ya' and second part of his name 「ト」 as the katakana 'to'.
It is Adachitoka's way of letting the readers know that the name Yato is not his true name.
Despite Hiyori knowing him all this time as "Yato," she was able to figure out in time that the last character in his name most likely is read alternatively as that kanji, instead of the katakana. Hiyori does manage to figure out Yato's real name is 'Yaboku'.
Tumblr media
Hiyori calls him Yaboku and saved him from the clutches of Izanagi and the Underground (Yomi).
5. She turned into a Shinki and ended the calamity by destroying the brush. And saved the world. She cut the paintbrush not even kazuma could cut it.
Tumblr media
She played the role of 'save' from the beginning of the manga until its end.

i've been bitching about the ending non-stop so i sat down and thought about how i would've ended it, so here are my thoughts (unhinged)
first and foremost: hiyori's death
how i would have done it: she had an unique status as an half-ayakashi. a few chaps back, when she was almost sucked into that hole, i wholly believed adachitoka was planning for her to go to the underworld to meet izanami. i'd have loved to see her meet the goddess of death, somehow get the info on how to break the koto no ha (as izanami is surely still mad at father), making a promise to her to bring father to her and then return to the near shore (as she's half-human) to kill father without having to die for the melodrama of it all.
and to make her return to her body, yato'd have had to cut their ties once and for all, making her forget about him (this would have been just as emotional and dramatic as her death!)
second: the whole heaven arc
i would've shown at least SOMETHING about heaven (like a covenant) officially pardoning bishamon and co. and amaterasu announcing that heaven had to change their ways in order to never let anything like this happen again. amaterasu saw first-hand what corruption could lead to and an insight into her mind, her thoughts and learnings all brought to her by yato would've resolved at least some of the loose threads from the heaven arc.
third: god's greatest secret
this wasn't resolved at all by adachitoka. kazuma and yukine have been touched by GGS and lived! nice, but what about the secret as a whole? honestly, all gods should be deadly afraid of them bc of this and not allow their shinkis to hang with them at all lol.
the whole point of GGS was that the painful, regretful death of their past lives would corrupt a shinki. the solution to this whole thing, in my eyes? break the taboo as a whole. not sure how exactly i'd have handled this, but if all shinkis knew their past lives, they could start healing each other together, playing back into the famous quote that ,,only humans can help humans'', which shinki are. ofc, this would need like a whole arc of itself so the ending in the manga is fine, i guess. they just don't rly talk about it lol.
fourth: father
OOOH what wasted potential! he was so complex and then they went ''haha, bad guy go blubblub'' which i honestly don't even mind at all. but i'd have added at least one scene of him meeting izanami back in the underworld, with her wearing kaya's face once again. he'd hear kaya's words ''to let it go'' one last time before he accepts his death and failure, embracing izanami and meeting his end therem eternal limbo. it'd have been a deserved death, bc he was (comically) evil and did terrible things but with some more context and depth to his character (which he always had!).
fifth, yato's lifeline (the most important one)
the literal plotpoint of the manga was yato being recognized as a god by the people. the whole twitter debacle was funny, yeah, but oh so cheap.
i personally would've loved for him to realize, after saving hiyori, that he actually wasn't disappearing at all, making him realize that there were people believing in him (like masaomi). they could've cut back to the little boy with his cat, who still thought about yato as his saviour, or to the girl he saved in chapter 1, who remembered a god that had brought her happiness. he'd have realized that, while bringing calamity, he had also been a god of fortune to them all the time. would've been such a nice, full circle and such a good pointe to this whole lifeline thematic and another realization that father had been lying to him all along. BUT NO. TWITTER SAVED HIM. hsuiahfsdufhudzshf
and lastly, the timeskip:
honestly? i liked this about the chap. showing hiyori as a doctor, her thriving, i was so happy! i would've kept that. also i like the fact that yato hid her diary from her, in order to let her live her life after cutting their ties, peak drama, mwah!
of course, she remembers him, i loved how his name formed on her lips and boom, there he was, on the tree
i would've added a convo, something, anything!!! they haven't talked in yrs (real-time!) so they should've exchanged words, a hug, WHATEVER, accepting their love for each other, accepting that she has to live on on the near shore, as much as it dooms their relationship. some frigging acknowledgment of their feelings for each other, come on!
also, yatorine reunion, before we cut to the end page where hiyori writes in her diary about yato.
the rest? i was fine with. take has a good end, bishamon has a good end, nora especially won! i liked these points but like… everything else i pointed out? too sad we're left with these threads hanging loose, i guess :(
