Also, have you seen Comte’s 6th birthday story? I saw the CG but I dont have the chance to read the story. Is ok if you also give some spoilers about it? 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Glad to be back! Sorry for the scare--life just got ahead of me, and alas my spoons were limited and focused on survival. That being said, I've still been reading/translating his stories, so I have indeed seen Comte's 6th bday story.

I think you've given me a bit too much power 🤣 but I'm happy to gush about Comte anytime. Since I'm going to discuss something that hasn't been released in the English version yet, the deets will be under a cut.

A reminder that I'm not a professional, so this is by no means an infallible translation. I try to convey what I find to the best of my ability, but I'm sure there are nuances I miss.

Where to begin? Honestly this story was A Lot, and arguably among my favorites, but the title of the CG/story is allegedly "Courtship at the Nape of the Neck." Get hyped, y'all--if I understood things correctly, it's exactly as it sounds.

The story begins with MC and Comte on their way to a ball for his birthday, and MC is all like "honey. When I said I wanted this day to be for you. That did not mean. Another dress for me." To which Comte's response is "New phone, who dis."

All jokes aside, MC does feel bad about it but he insists it makes him very happy, so she concedes:

MC: You got me a dress as a gift again…despite the fact that it’s your birthday;;;

I smiled at MC, who seemed to feel bad about it.

Comte: It’s because it’s my birthday that I gave you that dress. It’s my greatest pleasure to gift them to you, and accompany you in it.

I reached out beside me to stroke her hair gently.

Comte: It’s always fun to think about what kind of dress would suit you…And besides, when I see you all dressed up like this, I can’t help but fall in love with you all over again.

MC then mentions that she's made him a gift, and downplays it--likely out of shyness--before handing it over.

It was a handkerchief with a simple yet elegant design, with a name embroidered on it.

Comte: Did you embroider this yourself? How did you prepare such a wonderful thing?

MC: Hehe, I did my best under Sebastian’s guidance.

(To do something this intricate by hand would have taken quite a bit of time…)

Comte: Thank you, MC. I’ll treasure it.

I felt a warmth fill my chest at the sweet gesture, and I dropped a kiss to the handkerchief I received.

Comte: I’d prefer to be kissing you, but I fear if I do I won’t want to get out of the carriage after I start.

So like, yes, take a moment to scream, because wow. First of all, how dare you Abel. Second of all, AAAAAAAAAAA IT'S SO SUBTLE AND SWEET BUT ALSO LOWKEY SULTRY HOW DARE!!! I will have my r e v e n g e--

But also??? Aside from my brainworms, I really do love this part of him. Even though her gift is simple, he really does cherish the effort and dedication she put into making him something. I guess I think about how someone in his position could easily downplay its significance--but he doesn’t. He’s mindful of how her feelings saturate the act, and he honors it openly. And in case you think this is a one-off instance, it really isn’t. In his Anniversary story event, there is a direct emphasis on how he still keeps MC’s wedding gift to him--the preserved flower pins--polished as if they were newly gifted to him, not a speck of dust clouding their surface, lovingly tended.

I think it’s very easy for people to minimize him as unfeeling or haughty the way only very rich people can be, but...the his character construction and the intimate personal details you see if you’re close to him reveal that he doesn’t really fit that stereotype at all. Sure he’s selective about who he shares himself with, but that doesn’t make him fundamentally shallow.

Moving right along, MC gets bashful (and honestly who could blame her idk how she even makes sustained eye contact help) and they arrive at the venue in short order. None of this is especially notable except that it says, when they exit the carriage:

Her small, lovely hand covered the one I gently held out for her to take.

Thanks! I'm devastated!!! You just broke down adoration to its bare essentials!!!! I'm a romantic for one person and one person only, and it's HIM--

Naturally, they enter the ballroom and everyone flocks over to congratulate Comte on his birthday. Gracious and measured as ever, he accepts each one in turn, but MC is silent/stiff for most of it. All of a sudden, MC says she's going to get some fresh air and slips away to the balcony to clear her head. Comte is understandably confused and tries to follow after her, until he's intercepted by another noblewoman.

(What’s the matter…? It’s not like her to leave on her own like that so suddenly.)

When I tried to follow her at once--

Well-dressed noblewoman: Wait, Comte

As soon as I’m stopped by the woman, melodious music swells to fill the hall.

Well-dressed noblewoman: I’d love to spend some time with le Comte tonight. Won’t you share a dance with me?

A woman with a charming smile from the past crossed my mind.

(In the past, when I hadn’t been in love, I would have accepted such an invitation for the sake of simply enjoying the novelty of a single moment; that ephemeral warmth was something I relied on in the endless sea of loneliness that was eternity.)

--But now, I don’t feel that way anymore.

(Because I met MC.)

Comte: I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I’m already accounted for. Have a pleasant rest of the night, young lady.

So after Comte picks the correct answer, he continues on his way to the balcony and finds MC staring up at the sky.

Aight so like. I love when they have a certain writer create these stories, because they literally always make MC the strong and silent (stoic/defensive) type and Comte her little meow meow. It may be specific to me and my tastes but I love it here and I'm never leaving.

Before I add the transcription, I will say that I'm not really sure the "were you crying? did someone bully you?" part was something I fully understood. It appeared to be some kind of idiom/nuance the translator struggled to pick-up on, so I apologize for that. But it is my understanding that he's alluding to MC being picked on/unhappy.

When MC turned around, she had a surprised but also somewhat anxious look on her face.

(If I try to ask her what’s wrong…she’ll say it’s nothing. In that case…)

Comte: Were you crying? Did someone bully you?

MC’s expression relaxed a little at my dramatics.

MC: What are you on about, I wasn’t crying or bullied. But if I was crying…what would you do?

Though she throws the question back at me, I smile in response.

Comte: A gentleman's handkerchief is there to wipe away a lady's tears. I would tend to you with the very handkerchief you gifted me tonight.

MC: Thank you. But, I’m not one to shed tears so easily.

Comte: That’s right, you’re very strong.

The anxiety that clouded her expression earlier has faded away now, and she’s smiling.

I hold my hand out to MC once again…

MC: Yes, with pleasure.

Y'all but the way she claps back, and then he kills with that line about the handkerchief. God damn sir, if nothing else you get full points for incredible verbal repartee. (Lowkey, I’d make out with him for his emotional intelligence alone, don’t look at me.)

Okay but because I can’t help myself. I love how he’s like. I’m No Gentleman, MC. I Am A Liar.

Also Comte: A gEnTlEmAn’S HaNdKeRcHieF iS tHeRe To--

Mfer certainly knows how to lay down the charm when he wants to cheer her up--

After that, it simply says they spend a lovely evening together and then cuts to them relaxing in a hotel near the venue. Cuddled together (GOD I WISH THAT WERE ME), MC eventually speaks up to explain what happened earlier that night.

MC: Hey, Comte…

MC is picking at the hem of her clothes absently when she calls out to me.

Comte: What’s the matter?

I caress her hair to encourage her to continue, and she slowly opens her mouth as if she were choosing her words very carefully.

MC: When I was on the balcony earlier tonight…I wasn’t crying, but I was pretty frustrated with myself. I saw so many beautiful women giving you their congratulations tonight, I can’t help but worry you’ll be snatched away from me…I’m sorry you had to see me like this on your special day…

So, in the immortal words of Beyonce, "What's worse, looking jealous or crazy? Jealous or crazy?" is basically the mood of this whole scene. I'm usually not the territorial type, but I wouldn't even blame MC for getting pissed--nobody likes to see other women ogle/grab at ya mans (especially when ya mans is Comte).

Also beginning to wonder if Comte has a certain interest in MC’s hair 🤔

(I see now, so that’s why)

Comte: MC

After hearing such a cute confession, my fingers moved from her hair to stroke her cheek.

Comte: It’s all right, you have nothing to apologize for. Besides which, I know how you feel--I’ve been jealous/frustrated plenty of times too.

MC: Oh…like when?

Comte: Always/All the time.

MC suddenly looks at me, looking as if she really hadn’t been aware of it.

Okay but when he just gives that flat expression and goes "ALWAYS" without hesitation, I nearly started wheezing with laughter. Petty and glamorous, I love him your honor it's not a phase!!!!

Comte: Today, for instance, that Baron who was in love with you from the moment you stepped into the hall. A young waiter brushed his hand against yours while handing you a champagne glass. Every time I see another man taken with you, my heart is agitated.

(Of course, it’s not limited to just today. It’s been like this ever since I fell in love with you…)

Comte: Rather immature for someone like me, isn’t it?

MC: Comte…

Comte: But now…I’m not the only one who feels that way anymore.

I wrapped my arm around her delicate waist and hugged her close, a sweet scent catching my attention.

Comte: Come, MC.

Just the thought of him seething because some random waiter brushed MC's hand literally just. Sent me. Like straight up astral projection, that is so much I had to stare at the nearest wall to cope. And like I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but I have to wonder if the Baron he's talking about is the one that hit on her in Comte's rt--because if that's the case, that would be hysterically funny. At the same time if it’s literally just some random dude that thought MC was pretty at first sight, that is somehow even funnier. Le Comte de "Peace was never an option" Saint Germain. Monsieur le “Don’t even think about looking at my wife. Walk away.” Comte.

I live for it, I love it, I regret absolutely nothing!!!!

I escort her to bed and sit with MC in my arms. I kissed her soft hair and laid my forehead on hers.

Comte: You belong to me, and I belong to you.

MC: Co--Abel…

She calls my name and settles against my chest, and I’m filled with such affection for her.

Comte: You’re so cute…Telling me all about the frustration and the bullying honestly. You’re so lovely I want to bite you.

"You belong to me, and I belong to you." SCREAMING, CRYING, THROWING UP THAT'S SO ROMANTIC AND TENDER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

"You're so lovely I want to bite you." Do you promise. I want it in writing. 👁✒️

Then MC, who was silent as if she were thinking about something deeply, looks up--

Comte: …what is it, MC?

She pinches the skin of my neck between her lips and nips at me.

MC: I want to bite you too…I love Abel so much…

She keeps nipping at me, her soft lips nearly ticklish against my skin.

(I can’t believe you’re doing this…) NARUTO VOICE: BELIEVE IT!!!

She bit me lightly, and our eyes met.

MC: Am I the only one…allowed to do this to you?

Comte: Yes, of course…you can…bite me harder

So like. I'm aware I've already had several episodes in the process of recounting this birthday story and I apologize for the moments where I breach containment--But.

Wow, thanks, none of my thoughts are holy and I am forever changed. I am not going to heaven, and I'm okay with that. I lived, and that's what matters. BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK--

I leaned back to give her more room and she nodded, digging her blunt little teeth into me. The slightest pain is followed by a feverish arousal that blooms from my chest outward.

This is especially insane to me on the level of like. The game is pretty clear about how biting your lover (at least for vampires) is a mutually understood sign of courtship. It’s a clear sign of who your lover is. And the fact that MC uses that sign to convey her feelings despite being human????? As the signal that she’s ready to fully be his and wants no one else to be able to interfere with that??????? Long time coming but also BWAH, BWAH BWAH BWAH BWAH

The other part of the end that kills me is that. They make love. With her fully dressed. And sure not necessarily that notable out of context, HOWEVER. BECAUSE I NEED TO DIE ON THIS HILL. What he specifically says is:

I reach to undo her dress--before my hands freeze.

[Comte: It’s always fun to think about what kind of dress would suit you…And besides, when I see you all dressed up like this, I can’t help but fall in love with you all over again.] (He’s remembering what he said before.)

Comte: I’ll make love to you as you are tonight. You’re dressed up to my liking, after all.

For those of you who haven’t seen the CG. MC. Is in a black dress. With sleeves that are see-through. Low cut bust. A long and visible thigh slit. With slight gold accents.

SIR. SHE IS DRESSED. TO YOUR LIKING????????????

At this point I’m convinced Cybird wants me to be in palpitations before the game ends for good. So much for Mr. Prim and Proper, I know you nasty Comte--

The rest of the bits are fairly raunchy so I’ll forgo that (let it be known simply that he is a firm believer in foreplay) but there are a few lines that I want to focus on.

(You haven’t the slightest idea how captivated I am, do you?)

[He asks her to say what he can only hear on his bday, and naturally she says happy bday.]

The heat of where our bodies are connected, her voice crying out for more, my heart and soul are on fire with the twin calls.

Comte: MC…

I kiss her tears away before connecting our lips with a smile…

Comte: I love you, too

With a feeling that is equal to eternity, I dropped my lips to her delicate neckline and…--

A lot to unpack here, but I will try (and fail) to remain composed as we go through each one.

“MC, you are the best gift of my life.” Like. Sincerely don’t even know how to approach this one. I have no clever witticisms. No trite commentary. Literally it is just beyond touching...[insert your preferred sobbing meme here]. It’s an odd feeling because honestly it doesn’t even feel like a surprise; his actions 100% substantiate what he’s expressed. It feels more like the inevitable culmination of his devotion up to this point. But there’s just something about the way it’s crystallized into that simple but enormous sentiment. That she was something unexpected, but not only welcome--accepted with such gratitude and joy. 11/10 I was not okay when I first read it and I’m not even okay now, every minute is half-catatonic.

And now to the question many of you probably have as you wait for me to address it. Did he..........b i t e bite her? The answer is I have no freakin’ idea. That’s where the story ends, and there’s no itemized specification as to how he bites her. But the phrasing keeps bothering me. If it were just another harmless love bite--as we’ve seen him do before--it’s never prefaced with “a feeling equal to eternity.” That kind of distinction is only made when he’s talking about how he changed the men into turned vampires when he found them.

Additionally, so many of his most recent stories have featured MC as a vampire (AU settings) but also in the most recent Christmas story (in the normal mansion setting), he gets extremely close to biting her for real--the closest I’ve ever seen, up to this point.

Granted all I can really do is speculate, but I will say it feels skewed in the direction of “holy shit he bit her for real, this is not a drill, LET’S GOOOOOOO Y O O O O O O”

I hope this summary was as cathartic for you as it was for me. But yeah!!! This is the vast majority of the contents ✌🏼💛

I FINALLY have the time to gush about the new CG for mm's 7th anniversary, so I'll make the most of it despite my tired and sleepy brain!

AHHH AND I MUST SAY, this is SUCH a soft CG this time around! The last one we got was so fancy and grand, while this one gives off much more wholesome and sentimental vibes. I LOVED the 6th anniversary CG btw! Just pointing out the details! Everyone's masquerade outfits still have me in a chokehold ngl

It's wedding themed! Which we knew already, but boy, oh boy, does it hit different to actually see it. I have such a huge silly grin on my face as I look at this CG. It just makes me feel all happy and fuzzy inside! :) I love how the artist managed to make each and every one of them similar yet different in one way or another. They're all happy, and they're all looking at you, but their facial expressions are unique to their each individual personality and their journeys up until this point. Makes me all emotional to just think about it.

I'm not one for analysis, but I do wanna gush! (Plus Imma start reblogging and crying over other people's wonderful analysis' soon enough ♡)

I love those pink accents on Zen so much!! 😭 Especially the ribbon in his hair. It's so simple and yet so very charming and cute in a way. Never knew how much I needed to see Zen in some pinks before today. And dare I say he looks absolutely smitten with his mc's. I sure love seeing that dreamy and peaceful look in his eyes. He has nothing to worry about. Because you're by his side to support him.

Ahem, yeah, we love and adore Jaehee Kang on this blog. I love seeing her dressed up in a way that makes her feel pretty and true to herself. She wasn't allowed that much in her life. But now, she is literally glowing from within. Sure, her dress is beautiful, but it's her inner beauty that makes me get all mushy. I would honestly just look at her with hearts in my eyes like a cat does to its favorite person. That's me. I'm that cat.

I love Jumin's smile!! Look at him!! He's so happy to see you! We need more of Jumin just being comfortable and happy. I love that for him. His full smile is really lovely <3

Saeyoung is my best buddy, and I am SO happy to see him with his glasses on for once! But, more than that, I love how they depicted him here. Sure, it'd be great to see his huge mischievous grin, but his smile here is bashful, light, peaceful. It's the type of smile you make without even realizing it. He's completely relaxed here, and that fact alone makes me feel emotional. He truly looks at you like he sees an entire galaxy in your eyes. And, he's more than willing to get lost in it. Because he knows you'll keep his heart safe.

Is this my new lock screen? Yes. Did I cry about it? Yes. Were those happy tears? Absolutely.

Saeran, oh, Saeran... His eyes say it all. We don't have to see a big smile on his face to know that his heart is fluttering right at this very moment. You just know he'd gladly stay with you in this moment for all eternity if he could. I am crying over his adorable blush. Saeran is a blushy boy, and I adore that about him. His cheeks still go all red even after all these years of knowing you. I just know he's gently pressing his lips to the petals and imagines that it is your lips he's kissing. It may be silly, since he can kiss you anytime he wants now, but he still finds these small things a little sentimental. I certainly don't mind.

Yoosung and Jihyun are looking absolutely wonderful as well, I just didn't really have anything noteworthy to say about them! And yes, there are flowers, and like I said in my tags, flowers are something to cry over. I won't be analyzing the meaning of them in my post, but I will cry my eyes out about them under other people's posts!

Happy 7th anniversary to Mystic Messenger and all the wonderful folks in this lovely fandom I hold so dear! Time sure does fly...

Piofiore: Episodio 1926 Part 3 - Nicola Francesca Route

Well, I'm already liking the start of Nicola's route, like excuse me, that CG is beautiful. Nicola whining about finishing work and going to sleep on a bed Lili wasn't in was so cute haha, especially when he kept asking her if she'll marry him so whenever he comes home, she'll always be there to welcome him back. Lmao when Dante got a bit happy over Lili making pasticciotti and Nicola got a bit jealous and said Lili is his haha. I love that Nicola was serious about proposing to Lili and was visibly happy that she agreed even if he knew she was probably not taking it seriously. It was honestly hilarious hearing how flustered Nicola was when Lili saw how bad he's at waking up when it's someone else like Leo waking him up hahaha. It was so adorable how Nicola said he didn't want to tell Lili the Falzone family business was losing their clients because it looks lame that his work is wearing him down hahaha. It was obvious that Ernesto De Feo, the new governor, was related to Roberto, but his father huh? Guess Nicola's story can't get away from the De Feos haha. Gotta love a man that would say he'd kill whoever and whenever if it means saving you, like dang, Nicola!! It's crazy but I love it!!

I thought Dante being stuck in jail was the worst thing to happen, but seeing Gil's manor burning down and one of his guys running out with his charred arm falling off and skin peeling off?? That is terrible. I feel so bad for Gil, especially since he really cherishes everyone. I held out hope for Oliver to survive, but I guess not😭😭😭 Nicola's mother's death was pretty tough for him especially since he was so young. He knew she needed to be stopped but he didn't want or expect her to die. He wanted to protect Dante but that in turn caused his mother to die since she wanted Nicola to be the head instead of Dante, it's too cruel to try and assassinate Dante though, he was just a kid! But yeah, it's sad for him to realise that his words helped Silvio understand Nicola's mother's intentions and kill her off. I can see why Nicola wouldn't want Lili to know he's doing all that "dirty" stuff like kidnapping and threatening politicians to get Dante out of jail. She's only ever seen the good stuff about Nicola and whatever "bad" stuff he's done, he's got "good" reasons for so it's never made Lili think he was a bad person, but if she knew that he was willing to kill the politician's wife and kid if need be, would she still love him as much as she does now? It's difficult for him to show how vulnerable he can really be when he's never really allowed himself to consciously do such a thing. Teo is actually much more annoying than I thought he would be and I kinda wish we got to see Roberto's father as the "villain" of this route instead lol. Otherwise, I'm happy that Lili is stronger than I thought and supports Nicola's decisions even if he doesn't tell her everything. Even though I think the thing about their love being preordained by fate was a silly thing for drama, I do enjoy how seriously Nicola took it so that he could tell Lili with complete confidence that their love wasn't fate and that it was their choice to be together out of their own free will.

It seems like the more we go along with the story, the more likely it is that Teo is Lili's brother or something. Yang appearing was unexpectedly...random lol. On the other hand, I'm glad Nicola burnt down those ruins and freed Lili and the Falzone family from their mission of being the keepers of the grave protecting this relic that has been shackling them and Emilio for so long. I think it's about time everyone got to live their own lives. As for the CG with Nicola properly proposing to Lili? It was superrr cutee! As for the tragic ending, seeing how happy they were preparing for their wedding, I wouldn't have expected the ending to be a sad one, mainly because I really enjoyed the church scene where they rehearsed their lines, but I guess that was a death flag haha. Gil dying was terrible, but Bartolo dying?! That broke my heart. Seeing Nicola cry over Lili dying in his arms was very sad, if I had the same guts, I would do the same as Lili though. I think I would have liked the tragic ending more if it was a bit longer, since it would have been interesting to see how Nicola would choose to end his life so he could be with Lili imo, but I guess that's kinda morbid of me to say haha!

Overall, I enjoyed seeing how much Nicola loves Lili and how he tried to hide things from her so that she wouldn't hate him. In the original game, it felt like Nicola's main priority was always Dante, so seeing him cherish Lili just the same and even more was very sweet to see here. However, I have to say in terms of plot, it's definitely the weakest because it had no clear direction on what it wanted to do with the story until near the end, and even then it felt quite abrupt with how they dealt with Yang, it's like they felt they needed a physical fight and a villain so they just threw him in lol. As for Teo, I felt bad for him but he was crazy, and I think if the story bothered to explore his side of things more and give a bit more context to his thoughts and history, it would have been better. Burning the ruins was a great end to everyone's suffering but literally nothing in the middle that happened in this route was memorable or really needed for that to happen because Nicola would have done that if he could considering he's always wanted to free Dante from his responsibility. So yeah, route was definitely lacking and things weren't as spicy as they could have been so I'd say the route was quite bland even though it was cute at times, but I did still really enjoy the romance because of how much Nicola visibly showed through his actions and words that Lili was very much loved and cherished by him.

Hey in very beginning of step 3 in the scene where Mr.Holden had a thought dancing on the tip of his tongue but he kept it to himself after MC and Cove were being cute (idk if it makes a difference but this is when they're dating)... Can we know what he was thinking/ wanted to say? It's been bugging me lol

He would’ve gone into a “look how much you’ve grown”, “your dad is so proud of you”, “I’m so glad things worked out with the MC”, and etc spiel, haha. But he resisted the urge to fawn on his baby boy, at least for that scene.

If we planned to move away for college/future plans in step 3, is it implied that MC and Cove would have a long distance relationship for sure? Could MC have convinced Cove to come with them? How is the dynamic of their relationship going to be addressed in Step 4, if that makes sense?

Cove is willing to follow the MC where they went after everything is settled for them there, and if they’re sure they want him to come! You’ll get to decide how things shook out during those transitional years just by making choices about it during the opening prologue of Step 4.

Hi! First off, how does it feel to have created one of the best games when it comes to inclusion for lbtq+ peeps? I've never felt as validated with my identity and sexuality when playing a game and I'm seemingly not alone ♥ Second, and this might be a little too specific, but what kinds of drinks does Cove like as well as dislike? Thank you for very much! It’s really nice to hear the game felt inclusive. Cove likes regular water and fruit juices/smoothies most! He dislikes coffee and cola, and he’s not super into most teas either.

Hi, may i ask what gb patch stands for? Specifically the gb part lol

It stands for my old, silly username I used in places like Neopets as a kid, aha. The company name wasn’t super thought out since it was originally just me making VNs as a hobby. Luckily, “GB Patch” kind of seems like it could mean something reasonable, so I didn’t have to rebrand when it did become a more serious, commercial group.

If we chose to not propose to cove in the step 3 dlc would he propose or would the mc propose in step 4 or the wedding dlc?

Yeah, you or Cove can propose in Step 4 if you’re not already engaged! The Wedding DLC takes place after the engagement so the proposal scenes aren’t there.

will you guys announce if the early access for the new game is out on patreon ?

When beta builds of Step 4 or whatever start coming out on the Patreon we will mention it here on social media too.

Heyy I just had a quick question about Baxter if that’s okay :)?

I saw in an ask+answer that it’s possible to casually date Baxter In step 3, but what leads up to that? I have the step 3 dlc and I’ve tried playing them In a different orders and ways but it doesn’t seem to get anywhere ^^;

The Step 3 DLC is Cove-based because he’s the default guy. There’s a separate Baxter romance DLC that’s not out yet. That’s where you can get him to date you. I’m sorry for the confusion!

Will we ever get any LI's or side characters with physical disabilities or deformities? I think your games would be a great place to have them in since they're always so accepting and safe!

Is it possible to get Cove to take the bed and MC to sleep on the floor?

Not in Step 3, I’m afraid.

So, I have played the prologue of Our Life countless times and I haven't gotten the [Your Life] achievement, why is that?

Steam sometimes isn’t connected properly when an achievement unlocks and so it remains locked on your account. If that happens, unfortunately getting the scene again won’t unlock it. The achievement becomes inaccessible because the game thinks you already have it. Playing with the same Steam account on a different device or fully deleting your game data (more than the only the save files) are the only work arounds we’ve found.

Since when you talk with Jeremy in step 3 it's mentioned he goes on dates with someone (which assume is JB because who else would take this boy on dates) that makes him happy, does that sort of make JB and Jeremy the canon relationship in the first game?

The default for XOXO Droplets is that JB casually goes on dates with each of the jerks! Shiloh would’ve been harsher if Jeremy was the only guy getting her attention, haha. But the player can change that default by dating just one person the whole game for their own story and who she ends up with for real has no default.

Managed to get several people to join team Cove, so that's very exciting, I always have people to fawn over him with. I have a little question and I'm sorry if it was asked before, but does it ever come up in the game what Cove has told his mom about us? (who knows, with so many options, one can miss it) Or, alternatively, will it come up in the Step 4 DLC?

Thank you very much for sharing the game with people <3. It’s really great to hear people are liking it. Right now that doesn’t come up in game. Kyra is willing to keep her mouth shut and Cove isn’t gonna have that conversation either. At least not when he’s younger, but yes, perhaps when he’s a fully grown big boy in Step 4 you can ask him about it.

I’ve been thinking about this ever since it has been confirmed that there would be two love interests for OL2, would there be the possibility of forming a polyamorous relationship with both love interests? I’m sorry if you answered this previously, I’m just curious.

We are considering it, but it’s not a guarantee yet. It’d be really great to have but it’d add so many extra alterations that’d need to made, aha.

Hello! You mentioned how Cove would be uncomfortable with kids at 23, but how old would he be when he’s comfortable with having/adopting kids? (Same goes for the other LI’s.) btw, love your game!!

He’d want to be at least 25, but even older would be good. Derek would want to have kids when he and his partner could reasonably support them, the age itself wouldn’t matter. If they were doing good at 22 and wanted kids, he’d be up for it. Or they could wait until their 30s or whatever. Baxter is also more of a “when it feels right” guy rather than having a specific age requirement. Cove is just especially wary of being a young parent because of his own parents. I’m happy you like the game!

does step 4 immediately play after you press "end summer" in step 3? or is there another button/transition (like the story text thingy) before the epilogue begins? what happens after the epilogue? roll credits? 😂

Step 4 will have transition section always and there will be an extra button, if you own the Derek or Baxter DLC. By default the Cove-based version of Step 4 just plays once Step 3 is over. However, having the other guys’ storylines will mean you get to pick which version of Step 4 plays; Cove Step 4 (the basic one), Derek Step 4, or Baxter Step 4.

Happy pride month! Unfortunately, Our Life isn’t available for Mac on Steam right now. To be an approval application Apple requires having special notarization and we as a small group haven’t gotten that. Itch doesn’t care and lets us release the game for Mac there anyway, Steam does care so we’re locked out of putting the Mac build up on their storefront. Hello! I was jus wondering if the Baxter and Derek DLCs are still happening? I haven’t heard anything about them on here or patreon in a while so I just wanted to make sure ^^

They’re still coming and we just released a new sprite sketch on the Patreon for the Derek DLC c:. But right now Step 4 is still much more of a priority. Once that’s closer to being done we’ll focus way more on sharing previews for the other guys.

is it possible to tell cove you love him (platonically) at step 3 fondness/selecting him as basically family? i just love the mc and liz sibling interactions and it got me wondering about it (especially if you've selected that option)

You and Cove can be as close as family, but there’s not a specific scene in Step 3 where you say “I love you” in a family context. But there’s always Step 4~

do you intend on ever adding a collectors mode to Our Life? Like a way to collect achievements and CGs for the gallery without it effecting any save files?

We weren’t considering it before. But if a lot of players would find that helpful, we could start thinking on that!

He isn’t particular aware. Cove never truly stops being surprised that the MC is interested in/attracted to him, haha.

Would you say that the alone ending of xoxo droplets is worth playing again to get?

Nope, haha. The goal is to make friends/get a boyfriend and so the alone ending is kind of the bad ending for the game. Though there is a consolation prize if you get it by accident.

Is there any possible situation which would ever prompt Pran to bake for his girlfriend? Like I know it's unlikely I mean even if JB broke her leg somehow I'm pretty sure he'd still be like "I considered baking you a cake and doing the frosting the way I think looks interesting but you don't deserve a cake, no one does." right but also ahhh it would be super nice if some day he just surprised her with baked goods one day out of nowhere. JB would be so shocked it would be cute. So is there any possible situation where that could/would be a thing that he would do?

He might bake out of spite, like if he felt he had to prove her wrong on something. Or if JB used some good reverse psychology on him. Or he might do it in a relatively nice way if he could make his GF so shocked by the kind gesture that his amusement with that overrode his insistence on not being sweet. Pran is very difficult in high school, aha.

Is the "one route (where) it can be seen that Everett will drop his seemingly eternal waging with Jeremy pretty easily and can start getting along without thinking much on it" the Lucas route? I'm curious!

Yep! Everett will side with Jeremy if it’s between him and Lucas.

Step 4 is a free epilogue! It’s not done yet, but once it is finished you’ll just update your game file and Step 4 will be there after Step 3 ends.

They are. Step 4 is a free epilogue that’ll be a default part of the game once it’s done, the wedding DLC is an optional paid expansion that takes place after Step 4.

Why did Baxter not receive a step 2 sprite seeing how he shows up later

Sprites are time consuming to draw and take money out of the budget that could’ve gone to other things. His tiny appearance in Step 2 wasn’t worth all the effort to make a sprite, aha.

I just realized, what happens if if you get the patreon exclusive moment but at a later date, when you don't have the membership anymore, it's updated (like a bugs fix update for example)? Would you have to get the membership again?

You would have to get the membership again to redownload the build. But there’s very little chance there’s going to be an update once it’s been out for over a month. If a build gets released with errors, players catch/report them within the first few days. So by the time the first subscription period ends, any problems that were noticeable would already have been fixed. And we’re certainly not gonna be adding new content to it once it’s been released for a long time. There’s no need to worry about missing out on something worthwhile in the future if you cancel your membership. It’s being made with the idea in mind that many players are gonna be getting it and then going.

Hello! Wanted to ask about gaming choice in step 3? Once upon a playthorugh I got the option to buy Cove a bracelet for his graduation present. I played the same basic character again and that option wasn't there anymore. I'm not sure where I went wrong. My Cove wears a bracelet on each hand and my MC is into fashion and jewelry. Do I need to put an earring on him or? Sorry, love your game so much.

He also needs to have liked bracelets in Step 2 for that to be considered a good gift option for him. Sorry for the confusion! I’m happy you love the game :)

I’m not sure. Ideally they’ll come out at the same time, but the wedding DLC has a lot of art to get done and we may have to release it after Step 4.

Can mc still get confession from Cove at the end of step 3 even if mc casually dates Baxter in step 3? Such as in crush mode?

I don’t think so. Maybe that’ll change, but generally there’s differences to the Step 3 ending if you were dating Baxter and those differences likely will conflict with getting the Cove confession.

For the patreon moments/dlcs, will it be available for all tiers?

It’ll be available for tier 2 (Fans) and up!

21 Animated Projects We’re Anticipating in 2021

1) Arlo the Alligator Boy (Netflix/Titmouse)

This 2D musical feature film for the streaming service will set up a series (”I Heart Arlo”) about an alligator looking for family in a “Regular Show”-type world. The music blew us away during the preview at 2020′s CTN Expo.

2) Bob’s Burgers: The Movie (Disney/20th Century/Bento Box)

While the Fox show is loved for its humor and heart and not really for its animation, this feature film from the show creator Loren Bouchard will have a glossier look, as Bento Box animates on a feature budget and timeline. Expected in theaters on April 9, 2021.

3) The Boss Baby 2: Family Business (DreamWorks/Universal)

This March, DreamWorks Animation brings the brothers back together — to deal with the new cutthroat boss (baby) in the family.

4) Connected (Sony Animation)

Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Verse, The Lego Movie) support Gravity Falls alum Mike Rianda in his feature directorial debut. Rianda’s brand of wacky humor sets this humans vs. robots film up for a great time, if the company can set a release date.

5) Encanto (Disney)

Zootopia’s Byron Howard leads director team Jared Bush and Charise Castro Smith in this musical super power story set in Colombia, coming this fall.

6) Earwig and the Witch (Studio Ghibli/GKIDS)

Goro Miyazaki, son of legendary Hayao Miyazaki and director in his own right, brings Ghibli magic to theaters for the first time in six years. This film differs from its predecessors with stylized cg animation, but the story — an orphaned girl learns she’s the daughter of a witch — promises much of the wonder that one expects of any Ghibli film.

7) Luca (Pixar)

Director Enrico Casarosa debuts with Pixar’s Italian Riviera-set story of friendship between a boy and a boy-shaped sea monster, which arrives this June.

8) Minions 2: Rise of Gru (Illumination/Universal)

We’ve seen Gru’s future and his yellow minions’ past, but finally Illumination highlights the in-between in a villain origin story we hope will be as fun as the first three Despicable Me films.

9) My Father’s Dragon (Cartoon Saloon/Netflix)

It’s a great year for dragon-lovers, with Cartoon Saloon supplying the first of three feature films about these awesome creatures. Director Nora Twomey brings to life a Newberry-winning book, with help from “Inside Out” scribe Meg LeFauve and writer John Morgan. A boy who runs away to Wild Island finds much more than the captive dragon he sought.

10) Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (Netflix/Jim Henson)

Another ambition animated feature from Netflix, Pinocchio sets itself apart from other versions of the folk tale in its look — stop-motion by Jim Henson’s studio — and feel, with Guillermo del Toro’s signature dark brilliance under veteran director Robert Zemeckis’ helm. This will not be very family friendly.

11) Raya and the Last Dragon (Disney)

A warrior seeks the legendary last dragon hundreds of years after those mythical creatures saved her world from the same evil threat they now face. Coming to theaters and Disney+ (for a fee) in March.

12) Robin Robin (Netflix/Aardman)

This animated musical holiday special comes from the minds behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. It may be a long way from December now, but we’re ready for some stop-motion Christmas fun, especially when the story follows a bird raised by mice.

13) Ron’s Gone Wrong (Disney/20th Century/Locksmith)

Female-led production company Locksmith brings its first animated feature to life under Disney-owned 20th Century (Fox), “Ron’s Gone Wrong.” Set in a world where every child has its own robot assistant, a boy tries to fix his faulty robot this April.

14) Rumble (Paramount/ReelFX)

Based on a graphic novel by Rob Harrell, this film explores the challenges of a world where humans coach monsters in pro wrestling. Yes, really. We’ll see where it goes in May.

15) Sing 2 (Illumination/Universal)

Buster and his band of musical animals return with visions of stardom, or at least attempts to persuade a certain rockstar to join them in this sequel to the Animals’ve Got Talent film, expected in December.

16) Space Jam: A New Legacy (Warner Bros/WAG)

LeBron James joins the Looney Tunes in this not-quite-sequel to the 1990s classic live-action hybrid film. We’re especially looking forward to prolific voice actor Eric Bauza’s performance as Bugs Bunny, among other Looney favorites!

17) The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (Nickelodeon/Paramount)

After teasing us with seemingly infinite ads for this film, we’ve been waiting some time for the newest SpongeBob feature film in the United States, which arrives on CBS All-Access and video-on-demand services in February. The story of SpongeBob and Patrick’s journey to save the snail-napped Gary has already premiered in Canadian theaters and in other countries on Netflix.

18) Tom and Jerry (Warner Bros/WAG)

The live-action/CG hybrid film bring Tom and Jerry to the big screen and HBO Max this February. When Jerry accidentally crashes “the wedding of the century,” Tom is hired to get rid of the mouse, reigniting the famous rivalry and uncovering a secret plot in the process.

19) Vivo (Sony Animation)

Lin-Manuel Miranda delivers Sony’s first animated musical, about a capuchin monkey with big dreams, this June.

20) Wendell and Wild (Netflix)

“Nightmare Before Christmas’” own Henry Selick returns to stop-motion to direct Netflix’s adventure story of two demon brothers (Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele) who escape the Underworld.

21) Wish Dragon (Sony Animation)

An old teapot transforms college student Din’s meager life into something fantastic when he discovers Long, a Wish Dragon, inside.

Okay, ngl, I’ve been putting this watch off because I wasn’t quite ready to end the show, but 😭😭😭 y’know, that’s part of the series’s overarching thesis in a way. Things end, but life goes on and changes all the same.

Cookie cats! The Crewniverse is already pulling out all the nostalgia stops. (Lmao, do y’all remember that meme where it was like Episode 1: Steven summons his mom’s shield by eating ice cream. And then Episode X: Steven discovers his mom was a war criminal. EIORIDDJDJDJ.)

The gems proffer their well wishes and walk away, leaving a bewildered Steven. They’re affecting a casualness that they absolutely don’t feel to try and be supportive to Steven, but it’s not exactly what he wanted. 🥺

Final Ep. Thoughts: Kdeoksjdjsjs, this one really needed to be thirty minutes long, but my god, did they pull off a perfect last few minutes.

Final Future Thoughts: I might write more on this later, but overall, not only do I think Future was an amazing installment in the series, but it was essential for the incredible work it did in showing the consequences of deep, lasting childhood trauma. That’s not a storyline you often see in media, especially as laid bare as the Crewniverse did with Steven’s story. I think it was a little rushed at times—I would have loved to see some more fallout from the bigger arcs (the shattering/Greg and Steven’s fight/more of Steven’s recovery), but I absolutely understand that the Crewniverse was working with time constraints. It’s an imperfect work, but as our very own Greg Universe said, if every porkchop were perfect... then we wouldn’t have hot dogs.

What are/is your favourite moment(s) of Our Life? Personally one of mine is punching young Jeremy in the face.

Gosh, there are so many moments that draw me back in over and over again at every step, including the new patreon moment.

Oh, spoiler warning for those who haven’t played Our Life: Beginnings & Always yet. If you haven’t and are even slightly curious and don’t want spoilers, stop reading here and click the link and play it! The main game is free and it’s got a lot of the stuff I’m about to gush about!

Yes I had to plug the game here too because I will never stop. Never.

Let’s see... I think the scene that I replayed the most was when Jamie confesses to Cove that she loves him (or even just confesses she likes him and all the ways she can do it!) The way Cove reacts to it is just so beautifully emotional (and funny if Jamie confesses with a kiss and surprises him!) So that might be my favorite scene in step 3 overall. A close second might be the proposal... gosh. I don’t even know how @gb-patch will top it in Step 4! Though my favorite moment overall has to be Happiness. It is just full of so much love I just cannot even. My heart! ❤️

I’ll try to pick a most favorite for each step I suppose. In Step 1... probably my favorite scene is in Run Away when Jamie and Cove are at the sign outside of town. Maybe. I just get all mushy from seeing how much they mean to each other already by that point. But I also get the feels massively when Cove says, “I pick her and she picks me.” I mean my heart. Then there’s the friendship discussion in that moment and the two sneaking under the covers to read Jamie’s book... So maybe Sleepover is my favorite moment in step 1 overall. Although I also adore when Jamie keeps squeezing Cove’s hand to reassure him after his balloon pops in Shopping. It’s one of the reasons why I interpret Jamie’s love language as primarily physical touch. It just makes me melt seeing such gentle affection.

I’ll stop there and move onto the next step before I gush too much.

Step 2... I think it’s got to be the loft with its adorable CG that is my favorite scene. Just... it’s sweeties cuddling up together because they are both crushing on each other so hard and want to be close. How can I not love it? The flirting that happened before that and Cove reacting to Jamie wearing his shirt just adds to it. The favorite overall moment probably has to be Soiree though. I mean, gosh, it’s such an adorable first date for these two I cannot even! Jamie is so cute being overwhelmed by how excited she is for her date with Cove!

Though, interestingly enough, Family was the moment that pushed me to start writing a novelization for Our Life. It was the first moment I started writing out actually. There was so much good drama in it, but at the same time it didn’t quite mesh with what I had in mind for Jamie. The solution? Write my own route through that moment (and add plenty of comfort from Cove!) After I got it mostly finished I just started bouncing around writing my interpretations of every other moment.

(Speaking of, I’m overdue to show another clip of said novelization aren’t I? Maybe later today!)

Not to say confronting young Jeremy isn’t fun. Punching him does have a certain oomph to it, especially when Jamie is doing it in reaction to Jeremy making fun of Cove’s scar, and add on Cove’s reaction afterwards... I mean, I’m weak for that wobbly shy smile of his. Still, my favorite way to deal with Jeremy is DOOT DOOT DOOOOOT! It’s just too hilarious! Not to mention the little play fight Cove and Jamie have with the noise makers before that... so cuuuuute!

Naturally the Patreon Moment is just... *chef kiss* but it’s technically not part of each step, so it gets to be the favorite all on its own by default. I have a hard time picking a favorite scene in it since it’s just stuffed to the brim with so much sweet, sweet vanilla goodness that made me fall in love with this game. It’s just pure fan service for fans like me who are here for the romance and how precious Cove and Jamie’s relationship is and how much they care about each other I love it.

Sadly, I can’t give my favorites of Step 4 and the wedding DLC... yet. I, like every other fan of this lovely game, just have to wait patiently for them to be released.

Collar X Malice: Unlimited Part 5 - Yanagi Aiji Route

Aww, it was so cute how Yanagi held her hand after her near-death experience with Tachibana, that was cute. It's nice to see Ichika trying to in her own way to accept that her good friend Saeki is Zero, the head of Adonis. Aww I love how even though Yanagi is bad at puzzles, he still does them because he likes them, like dangg that's some dedication though, 5000 pieces?! I love their matching keyrings! Puzzle pieces that fit together are cuteee. I like how even though their dates are pretty chill e.g. cooking together, Yanagi still makes effort to do things with Ichika that are not "him", but because it's with her, he finds it fun to try new things. I think that's something I really enjoy about them, they both kinda broaden each other's horizons when it comes to their lives, their thinking and stuff they do.

I loveeee all Yanagi's CGs, like danggg. The bed one, the kiss one before they leave together like newlyweds, I loveee how comfortable their relationship is. It's sad that Yanagi is having trouble at work and doesn't seem to want to burden Ichika with it though. LOL at Enomoto's "high level skill" tiering, I guess Enomoto must have been pretty proud of himself in his route then if SSSS tier is proposing in public hahahaha. I always find it saddening that in every other route besides his own and Yanagi's, Enomoto's still kinda "lost" and doesn't rejoin the police force and then just stuck with the "idiot" persona, but yeah glad to see him moving forward here and wanting to show Yanagi some results for always being so considerate of him. I guess I never really thought much about what Yanagi's troubles could be, but it's understandable huh? Back then with the X-Day cases, Yanagi was the leader and it was in a sense "easier" for him to make and relay decisions because not only did he have people such as Sasazuka who were capable in handling matters, but there was that sense of unity and a team to investigate. Whereas now, everyone has gone back to their respective lives to achieve their goals, so it's just Yanagi at the office making decisions by himself, taking responsibility for himself and not really having anyone to discuss the cases with. I think Yanagi is someone who thrives when he has people to protect and is much stronger when he does things for others, so I guess I can understand how confused he must feel right now. So, I'm glad Yanagi has Morioka, someone he respects that he can chat with about his problems.

I actually don't remember Yanagi mentioning having an older brother so I guess this is an interesting surprise. Well, guess we were better off not knowing his brother considering he's the typical brother that doesn't want Yanagi's shameful past to affect his prospering career. Aside from that though, it does seem that even though Yanagi has no positive feelings towards his brother, he does care about his parents and seems to feel bad that he left them (and distanced himself) when he joined the police back then. I liked how Yanagi initially helped Ichika try to face Kazuki back then, and now she's helping him try to face his brother and his past. The discussion definitely went much easier than I thought, but I think from Yanagi's sincerity, I could finally understand a bit more about why his brother is so cold. It seems like his brother had a rough time in school because of what Yanagi did back then, so that coupled with the fact that Yanagi just up and left them without ever communicating with them again or not much must have built quite a bit of resentment, especially since Yuji (his brother) believes that Yanagi was the one who abandoned them and not the other way around. So, I guess it's fitting that Yanagi should be the one to try and reach out to them again. It's nice to see Yuji actually much kinder than he acted with Yanagi the first time. I guess in his own way, he thought that Yanagi was "straying off" the path again and wallowing in his own sadness and regret over the assault rather than doing something with his life by working in the police, so seeing Yanagi be able to prepare so many things and talk to him must have made him realise that he was wrong. Loll at Yuji purposely messing with Yanagi btw.

Awww, I loved how forward Ichika was straight up telling Yanagi that she wanted to marry him. I guess it's really helpful to get advice from the lovey-dovey Mochida and getting the approval of Yuji haha. I really enjoyed the talk Yanagi had with Kazuki, they were so honest with each other and I really loved how understanding Kazuki was, and how he appreciated getting to know Yanagi better and knowing that he was the one who saved Ichika back then. Yoshinari as an assault captain in a gang back in the day is something interesting to imagine lol. Awww Enomoto gathering everyone at Yanagi's place for a little party was so sweet and fun. I loved the whole catch up. Enomoto is best boy~ Anyway, I find it so cute that Sasazuka and Okazaki are work lunch buddies, and Yoshinari being sad over having to train rookies is cute too lol, he's a senpai now! Shiitake mushroom creme puffs are probably one of the most adventurous desserts I've ever heard and I don't know if I would ever want that to be real. LOL at the glossary note on Yanagi being called a pervert when he was indecisive over picking a toy for his niece🤣

It was sad to see Yanagi break down over regret on not having done more for Shiraishi, a sentiment that Ichika shared towards Saeki... I guess Ichika has finally come to some sort of terms with Saeki by seeing him, but probably not much lol. Anyway, Ichika offering to take a bath together with Yanagi was so brave hahaha! It didn't happen but the boyfriend shirt seduction did and I'm so happy for Yanagi lolll, she was so cute. Yanagi definitely alwaaaays has the best CGs though, like wow, the wedding one is so beautiful, I love it. Lmao at Kazuki crying at the wedding, he's so adorable.

Overall, I enjoyed Yanagi's route. Personally, I think they attempted to tie some loose ends with their feelings towards Shiraishi and Saeki, but because they didn't delve much into it, everything just kinda rang hollow in the end for me. Like, Ichika's talk with Saeki didn't really feel that different from when they talked before (I think) so it just felt like "nothing happened". Otherwise, I thought it was nice to see Yanagi exploring different types of dates with Ichika, but also keep with their home cooking dates haha. I also really liked how Yanagi is still kinda awkward and that's reflected in the situation with his brother, but it was sweet to see how much he really wanted to improve and how he is stepping forward slowly with Ichika by his side. The romance was definitely strong with this one and I really liked how much bolder Ichika is even though Yanagi is still a bit shy haha. But I guess Ichika was always the one pulling him out of his "hole" so that's understandable. I think I might have liked Yanagi's talk with Kazuki the most because it was really nice to see him open himself up to someone else besides Ichika. Now I'm super curious to see what the Adonis route is about!

Day 3:

Since Karkat had not managed to scare Dave off with the... outburst yesterday, he figured he’d hooked the idiot as well as he was ever going to. Which meant it was time to start fucking it up. He did his best to ignore the sense of loss already forming in his chest at the thought. Whatever frustrations he’d felt during that hang out/date thing Dave had put him through yesterday, he couldn’t deny that he’d enjoyed the experience, too.

Dave was a dork who talked too much, but he was also witty and charming in a maladroit sort of way. And it had been nice to have someone appreciate Karkat’s sense of humor in return. For once. A part of him wished he had longer to enjoy their time together, but he knew better.

Since he knew better, he also knew it wasn’t the time to mope. It was time to go on the full offensive. “Offensive” being the operative word. In this case, it meant acting like himself. Karkat had been on his best behavior up to this point, and now he’d show Dave who the “real him” really was. If he played his cards right, he probably wouldn’t even have to go on another date to seal the deal.

Karkat felt his eyes ache, and he hated himself for being such an idiot. He’d known this wasn’t going to last—even without his article, it never would have lasted. He’d already proven a countless number of times that, while a fairly good friend, he was simply terrible as a romantic partner. Dave was just one more guy he’d never really had a chance with. Just one more tally mark to add to his failures.

When Dave woke up the next day, he saw that he had quite a few messages waiting for him. A handful from Rose about wedding plans (with a reminder of the dress code, because of course her wedding would have a fully defined dress code). A bunch from his far-flung friend Jade (mostly telling a story which did not require more than a quick “cool” on his part). A couple from John (who was excited that he’d be seeing Dave at the wedding). There were also several from Karkat. Which was kind of a relief: Dave hadn’t liked that he’d been the first one to message him all the time: it made him feel like he was bugging the guy. Especially after waking him up yesterday.

CG: OKAY ASSHOLE, HERE’S THE DEAL:

CG: YOU WANT TO DATE THE REAL ME. FINE.

CG: I AM DONE BEING ON MY BEST BEHAVIOR.

CG: BE PREPARED FOR ME TO COMMENT ON EVERY INANITY THAT DRIBBLES FROM YOUR MOUTH LIKE THE LEAVINGS OF AN INCONTINENT PIGEON.

CG: YOU ARE NOT HALF AS FUNNY AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. ALSO YOUR “RAPS” ARE AN AFFRONT TO THE GENRE AS WELL AS TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

CG: IF YOU THINK I AM JOKING OR BEING “CUTE”, YOU ARE WRONG. A STATE YOU SHOULD BE EXTREMELY FAMILIAR WITH BECAUSE YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY SUFFERING FROM AT LEAST MODERATE BRAIN DAMAGE.

CG: I AM NOT NOR HAVE I EVER BEEN “A SNACK”. I ALSO DO NOT HAVE A “SEXY PROFESSOR THING GOING”. IN THE ENTIRE SPAN OF MY MISERABLE EXISTENCE, I HAVE NEVER BEEN ANYTHING WHICH COULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE IN EVEN THE MEAGEREST OF WAYS “SEXY”.

CG: MAYBE YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THAT FOR YOURSELF IF YOU EVER TOOK OFF THOSE DOUCHE SHADES YOU ARE ALWAYS WEARING.

CG: I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THIS SMALL TASTE OF WHAT IS TO COME IN YOUR FUTURE SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO KEEP DATING ME.

Dave read the messages a few times, frowning. Mostly, he felt confused, too confused to feel either amused or insulted. Sudden. This was sudden. Also, the more he read the messages, the more he thought Karkat was being more mean to himself than to Dave. His inner Rose (the voice which sounded like Rose but was not nearly as smart as the real thing) said that Karkat was lashing out, hoping to hurt Dave before Dave could hurt him.

And wasn’t that sad?

TG: first of all

TG: you are a total snack

TG: this is not negotiable

TG: do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars

TG: not to be all objectifying or whatever

TG: but that was literally the first thing i thought when i saw you

TG: that guy is a total snack

TG: and fuck you you are sexy

TG: i bet you look even better without the sweater

TG: you are the bank and im the debtor

TG: payin compliments is my cheddar

TG: need proof read the letter

TG: dear mr vantas you are hella sexy signed me

CG: OH MY GOD.

CG: THAT WAS THE PART YOU CHOSE TO FOCUS ON. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOU AT ALL. MOST PEOPLE DON’T LIKE BEING INSULTED. IS THIS A KINK FOR YOU? IS THAT WHAT THIS IS? ARE YOU A FUCKING MASOCHIST?

Dave was grinning so much his cheeks hurt. Nailed it.

TG: im not a masochist

TG: but i think i might be getting a thing for grumpy assholes

TG: it needs more testing

TG: how about we hang out for a few hours today

“CG is typing” appeared and disappeared several times.

CG: REALLY. YOU REALLY WANT TO KEEP DATING ME.

TG: yea unless you dont want to keep dating me

TG: i hope you do

TG: want to keep dating me

TG: i want to know you better

TG: and kiss you sometime

This time the “CG is typing” message went on for quite a while. Dave wondered if maybe he shouldn’t have sent that last message. Then again, he’d already called the guy sexy several times; saying he wanted to kiss him wasn’t weird.

CG: IF YOU’RE SURE YOU WANT TO KEEP DOING THIS, THEN FINE. OKAY. I THINK I WANT TO GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER TOO. JUST REMEMBER I GAVE YOU AMPLE WARNING OF WHAT THE REAL ME IS LIKE. WHEN I INEVITABLY END UP HURTING YOUR FEELINGS, YOU WILL HAVE NO ONE TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF.

After, unwisely, agreeing to meet Dave at the park again before going to some secret secondary date destination he had in mind, Karkat slipped his phone into his pocket in a daze. He was still reeling. Where had he misjudged this situation? He’d been certain he’d done enough to scare Dave away, and yet, here he was with another date to prepare for. Masochism or brain damage—those were the only options. Considering how much Dave had insisted on Karkat’s attractiveness, he was leaning towards the latter.

Of course, the words alone were only half of the total package. Even Dave would find difficulty deriving whatever enjoyment he got out of Karkat’s insults when they were being delivered at an ear-ringing volume. Karkat heaved a deep sigh. All he had to do was be himself on this date. That had always been enough for every other person he’d dated to leave him. Dave would be no different: he was just dumber, so it was taking him longer to get with the program.

* Thinks I’m “sexy”. Definite brain damage. Probable masochist. Raps have not increased in quality but I’m starting to get used to them.

The problem was Dave knew what he liked to do, what he found fun, but he didn’t know Karkat well enough yet to have much of an idea of what Karkat liked to do. Usually, Dave would have just asked, but seeing as Karkat had just been prepared to be dumped, he didn’t think the question would go over well.

When Dave approached the YO this time, Karkat was already sitting on the bench. His head was bowed over his notepad, and he was furiously writing. Although tempted to look over his shoulder and see what he was doing, Dave decided not to. If it turned out to be something deeply personal, he’d feel like a creep.

Whatever it was held Karkat’s full attention. Dave could be very stealthy, but he wasn’t even trying to be quiet as he got closer. Finally, he was standing right beside where Karkat was sitting. Still nothing. Remembering the reaction he’d gotten the other day, he flopped down close to Karkat, making the other man jump. “Hey.”

Karkat brought his notepad up to his chest, hiding it, and glared. Despite his clear irritation and the roominess of the bench, he didn’t move away. “What the fuck, Dave? Are you incapable of conducting yourself like a normal person? Or am I just special?”

Dave grinned. Looked like Karkat had meant what he’d said about acting more like himself. “I don’t know, you are pretty special. Not in the Special Olympics way,” he hastened to add as he realized his compliment might not come across complimentary. “I mean, nothing against them, they’re great,” he continued, now realizing the actual insult he was now offering them and not wanting to be that guy, “but that’s not what I’m talking about.”

A sort of disbelieving half-smile. “Should I stop you now, or let you keep going?”

“Oh, definitely stop me,” Dave said, relieved. He gestured to the notepad Karkat was no longer holding so tightly against himself. “What are you working on?”

“Nothing important,” Karkat said brusquely, shoving the notepad into his bag as though it had personally offended him. “Something for my work.”

It occurred to Dave that he actually had no idea what Karkat did for a living. “What do you do?”

For a moment, Karkat only regarded him with deep suspicion. Then he sighed. “I write for Dubiously Cultured.” Apparently, Dave’s confusion showed on his face, for he elaborated, “It’s basically a gay Cosmo.” Then he frowned. “You know, a magazine with fashion tips? Make-up? Relationship advice?”

“Oh, yeah, of course,” Dave said quickly. The last thing he wanted was for his eyes to glaze over on his date like they did when Rose started talking about her magazine (whose title he could not recall at this moment if he’d been being held at gunpoint). “Are you writing an article? Laying down the keep your man tips for the masses?”

Even Karkat seemed surprised by the laughter abruptly bursting from him. “Something like that,” he said once he’d recovered. “You work as a DJ at the Glass, right?”

Honestly, Dave was shocked. He’d been sure Karkat had been just tuning him out! Then again, he had remembered he was from Texas, too. Maybe he just always looked bored and pissed off. “Yeah. It’s not super steady, but it pays the bills.” It actually didn’t pay the bills; Rose’s mom (his mom, she was also his mom) sent him money every month to pay for the apartment and various other expenses. However, his sad family history wasn’t exactly third date material. “You ever been?”

Karkat leveled Dave with a skeptical look which seemed to indicate his estimation of Dave’s intelligence had started low and was only getting lower. “Do I look like the kind of person that would get past a bouncer? Are you actually visually impaired, or are you making fun of me?” He shook his head. “I can see myself in the mirror, jackass; I know what I look like. Stop pretending I’m,” he held up his hands to make the finger quotes, ‘hot’.”

“I’m insulted you would think I’d lie about your hotness. You’re a fucking rooftop in the middle of a Texas summer. I should know; I’ve been there.” The metaphor stirred up memories Dave didn’t want to think about, and he wrapped an arm around Karkat’s shoulder. He immediately wished he’d done it sooner. “Anyway, I’ve already told you, you are a snack. You might as well accept it. It’s obvious. Everyone with eyes can see it. Not you, for some reason, but everyone else.”

“That’s just not true, Dave.” Before he could contest this, Karkat continued, “Most blind people still have eyes, idiot, and they can’t see anything, let alone support your dubious assertion that I’m attractive.” The words practically dripped with sarcasm even as he settled into Dave’s half-embrace. “You’re being so fucking insensitive right now.”

“Oh, shit, you’re right.” The part of Dave not worrying about the words flowing out of his mouth registered how nice and warm Karkat felt under his arm and pressed against his side. “Well, if they got to feel you up, they’d agree you were a snack, too. So, checkmate, Karkat. Check fucking mate. You’re just going to have to accept it. Majority vote. You’re a snack.”

Karkat looked up. “If you tell me you want to eat me, I’m leaving now and blocking your chumhandle.” Then his gaze shifted away. “This is nice,” he said, his voice softer than Dave had thought he was capable of. Maybe it was Dave’s burgeoning hearing loss, but he sounded… sad.

While Dave wanted to ask why he sounded so sad, he figured Karkat would tell him if he wanted him to know. After all, they still hadn’t known each other for very long yet. What was needed was a distraction, and Dave had just the thing to cheer both of them up. “If you think this is nice, you should be super excited for our date.”

Karkat had been feeling guilty again. It really had been nice, sitting on that bench in front of that giant art installation, to pretend that there was actually some sort of future for them. For him and Dave. Together. So, he’d been feeling guilty—even if he was an idiot who talked too much, Dave wasn’t a bad guy, and he didn’t deserve what Karkat planned on putting him through.

At least, that’s what Karkat had been thinking until they’d arrived at their final destination.

“A karaoke bar?” Karkat felt a scowl furrow his brow, and he turned it onto Dave, who had the audacity to be grinning at him. “It might interest you to know that I can’t fucking sing.”

Dave shrugged. “No one can at these places, Karkat. That’s why it’s fun.” He pushed his glasses down his nose, allowing Karkat the briefest glimpse of his eyes before he pushed them up again. “You’ve had fun before right? Or do we have to go slow and ease you into it, because fun is a hotel pool with a broken heater, and you haven’t raided the mini-bar yet.”

“Of course I know what fun is, you festering anal wart.” He saw himself ranting reflected in the lenses of Dave’s stupid glasses and looked away. “Fun is a walk in the park, or watching a movie, or going on a picnic, or playing a game. Fun is not embarrassing yourself in front of dozens of strangers by subjecting them to what can only laughingly be called your singing voice!” He started at the unexpected hand on his shoulder but made no move to shrug it off.

“Hey,” Dave said quietly, “if you really don’t want to be here, we can do something else. I don’t really know what you like yet outside of chick flicks. And writing for a magazine. And coming up with creative insults for me.” His grip on Karkat’s shoulder tightened slightly. “Help me out here, Karkat; I’m drowning with only seconds left to live. You’re the hot lifeguard, and I’m gonna need your sweet lips on mine fairly soon, or else I’m leaving the beach in a body bag. And no one wants that.”

Karkat turned back to face Dave. There were so many things to unpack in this latest offering of word vomit that he wasn’t even going to make the attempt. “Do you ever actually listen to the things you say?”

“I try not to,” Dave said blithely. “Messes with my flow.” Then the smile faded. “I mean it, though. If you want to go somewhere else, we totally can. I don’t have my heart set on this place; I just thought it’d be fun. Maybe you’d loosen up a little.”

“I am exactly as loose as I want to be,” Karkat sniped back, tacitly admitting that now he was the one saying stupid things. As much as he wanted to make things difficult for Dave for the sake of his article, he really couldn’t deny being touched that Dave was willing to change his plans because Karkat had complained about them.

Besides, while Karkat could be (and often was) loudly unpleasant and vulgar, it wasn’t the kind of thing he could force. He had to feel it. And he wasn’t feeling it. “No, we can stay. Just are there private rooms?”

Dave was frowning, perhaps in displeasure, perhaps in thought. “We can check.”

It turned out that there were private rooms, but they were prohibitively expensive. If this had been something Karkat had really wanted to do, Dave would have shelled out the cash, but he’d known he’d made the right call to spend the date elsewhere when he’d given Karkat the verdict and his shoulders had immediately relaxed.

Although Karkat had also protested that he wasn’t much better at bowling than he was at singing, he’d seemed less agitated about the prospect. He’d actually smiled a little when Dave had confided that he, too, wasn’t much of a bowler. Dave also wasn’t much of a drinker, but when Karkat offered to buy him a beer, he’d accepted it.

Dave was currently sipping his apple? flavored ale from the chair in their section of the alley and watching Karkat lob yet another ball down the gutter. This made, what? the tenth in a row? Dave had managed via blind luck to hit a strike with his first shot—a feat he had not been able to repeat—and that had pissed Karkat off like nothing else. Each additional failure to even get his ball any closer to hitting any of the pins only made Karkat’s face redder.

The only question was when he was going to pop.

“FUCK!” Karkat stomped back to the ball return. “FUCK ME, FUCK BOWLING, AND FUCK YOU, DAVE. YOU THINK YOU’RE BETTER THAN ME? NEWSFLASH, FUCK FACE, YOU ARE JUST AS OBJECTIVELY TERRIBLE AT THIS AS I AM—AT LEAST *I* HAVE THE FUCKING DECENCY TO BE ASHAMED OF MYSELF!”

Dave made absolutely no attempt to hold back his laughter.

“Hey, do you mind watching your language?” An older man in the next lane was giving Karkat quite an impressive glare. “There are kids present.”

Karkat’s face went purple.

“Well, Karkat,” Dave said as they walked down the street to no stated destination, his tone infuriatingly casual, “I can honestly say I’ve never been kicked out of a bowling alley before. I can scratch that off the old bucket list. It wasn’t on there because I hadn’t thought of it, but now I see I was blind to the possibilities. Thanks for opening my third eye or some shit like that.”

Karkat had let Dave put his stupid arm around his shoulders about a block back, and he hated the fact it felt so comforting. Bad enough he’d made an ass out of himself over nothing in public (again!), but it hadn’t even worked. He’d wanted to piss Dave off by showcasing his abhorrent personality, and he’d failed miserably. It wasn’t even his fault he’d failed either. For some inscrutible fucking reason, the idiot found temper tantrums hilarious to watch rather than embarrassing to be associated with. “Fuck you, Dave,” he said quietly, his energy quite spent.

Dave chuckled. Case in fucking point. “Aw come on, don’t be like that. It’s not like we’re banned from the place.” He paused. “I’m probably not going to get you to go there again anyway, am I?”

“I am never stepping foot back into that establishment, no.”

“Are you still pissed at me for that strike?” Dave’s voice sounded disbelieving. Maybe a little hurt. “I told you, man, it was a fluke. I wasn’t trying to hustle you. If I’d wanted to hustle you, there’d be money involved. That’s how that shit works. It’s like the definition of a hustle.”

Karkat sighed. “No, I’m not mad about that.” He hadn’t really been that mad about it in the bowling alley either. He’d just been frustrated. Loudly. Which was how he usually expressed his frustration. In the moment, it made him feel better… afterwards, he just felt tired. “I’m just really fucking embarrassed, okay? I know embarrassment is probably a foreign concept for you, but—”

Then he was being hugged. He tensed for a moment, then relaxed into it. He knew he shouldn’t be accepting Dave’s comfort, that this was only going to make things harder in the long run, but he couldn’t help himself. He really was such a selfish asshole. His head fell naturally against Dave’s shoulder, and he felt a distressingly familiar ache in his eyes. “Why are you hugging me?”

A soft guff of laughter blew past his ear. “Dude, you looked like you needed a hug. I’m not a hug expert or anything, but sometimes you look at a guy and think, that guy, he needs a hug.” The arms around him held him just a little tighter. “I hope you leave me a good review on yelp.”

Karkat choked on his unexpected laughter. “Dave. You are so fucking ridiculous.” As much as a part of him wanted to remain in his arms, he knew if he stayed any longer, he really would start crying. “Let go of me, asshole.”

Dave did so with only a moment’s hesitation. He put his hands on his hips. “So, what do you think?”

“About what?” Karkat successfully resisted the urge to wipe his eyes. With any luck, Dave wouldn’t notice how tear bright they probably were. Why was he getting so emotional anyway? None of this would matter soon enough.

“My review,” Dave said as though Karkat should have any idea what he was talking about. “Five out of five stars, right? Don’t crash my yelp score, dude—I have a reputation to maintain as hug master supreme; it’s all I have.”

And Karkat was laughing again. It really felt good.

"Look over here ladies!" The photographer calls as I carefully grab hold of Mae's veil and lift it over my head and pose, causing Mae and Joyce to burst into laughter. We hear the camera shutter before I let go and wrap my arms around Mae, Joyce joining me as he shoots a few more shots. "Awesome! Alright ladies, you are good to go join everyone getting drinks. Mae, I am going to get a few pictures of the groom and his groomsmen then we will get pictures of just the two of you." He smiles as he walks over to where the boys are messing around under a tree further away.

I turn and see where the ceremony had happened only an hour earlier, the chairs all carried away and placed under a large tent on the right side of a large cottage by a small pond. The day was perfect, not too hot, not too cold on the early June day. Mae sighs beside me, dressed in her gorgeous, a-line wedding gown, hair pinned up with a few wispy curls framing her face. "What a perfect day for a wedding."

Mae giggles beside me, "Yeah, what a perfect day." I turn to see her looking over at the boys, her expressing the definition of heart-eyes.

Joyce wraps an arm around my waist, mine falling across her shoulders. "I'm tiiiired." She whines, causing Mae and I to burst into a fix of giggles. "I also want to go get some of those mini corn dogs."

"They will be a while so go ahead, just don't fill up on them 'cause dinner will be soon." Mae laughs, waving at her sister as she begins walking down the hill, yellow bridesmaid dress billowing in the wind as she spots her boyfriend and runs toward him.

I throw an arm around Mae's shoulders, "So, how's it feel to finally be Mrs. Mae Castro?"

"Pretty damn good." She states, causing us both to giggle. "You don't have to wait here if you don't want to-"

"Nah, its cool. Besides, I don't get to see you enough with me being in the UK."

"What do you think Tom is doing right now since you're with me?"

I shake my head, giggling. "Probably being harassed by my brothers, but Quinn and Harper are probably keeping them at bay." She hums beside me, her eyes trained on the boys who are posed looking at Anthony who has his left hand thrust out, showing off his wedding band while the boys are looking at it in astonishment. "What dorks."

"Yeah, I think it was Jack's idea," she adds looking at the best man.

It didn't take them too long for the groomsmen to finish with their photos, the group coming down the hill with bright smiles and laughing. I followed them down as Mae and Anthony start to do some more couple-y photos.

I walk under the tent, grabbing a bottle of water. I sigh as I look at the small flower arrangements on the tables and the fairy lights decorating the ceiling.

"There you are, darling." I turn and smile at Tom as he walks over to me, pulling me into his arms as he presses a quick kiss into my cheek. "How are you feeling?"

"Hungry," I giggle, nuzzling his nose with mine.

"Well, they have some light refreshments inside the cottage. Why don't we go get you something?" He laces his fingers with mine, tugging me along. Oh, what a perfect day for a wedding.

After giving our speeches, God knows I cried giving mine, and eating, the room was free to dance and enjoy the night. Mae and Anthony's first dance was adorable, especially since they had just recently celebrated ten years of dating the month previous. They had done the traditional tossing of the bouquet and garter, ending up in the arms of some of Anthony's friends from college.

Tom and I mingled with my family and took the time to talk with some of Mae's and Anthony's.

As I smile and nod at some of Mae's extended family, family that were basically my own at this point from how long we had been friends, I can't help but look over at my own mingling in the crowd. My parents are gushing with Mae's, our mothers standing close together as the speak and our dads laugh while holding their drinks in their hand.

My eyes scan the crowd to find Lucas and Quinn laughing along with the best man, listening to him talk about grad school, and the girl who hadn't been able to make it to the wedding.

I walk a few more paces, placing a hand on Anthony's grandmother's shoulder as a greeting. Her hand clasping my own, before returning back to her conversation with Anthony's boisterous father. My eyes land on Mark and Harper, who are standing off to the side and are lost in their own private conversation. They looked so in love.

"So, how has work and London been treating ya? We've missed you coming by the house and hanging out with everyone. " Anthony's dad asks, pulling me away from my people watching.

I let out a soft laugh as he motions me to sit beside him. "It's been good, Tom and I have actually been looking for a house as of recent. We think we found a nice one that is out in the country a bit, but not too far from his folks. And work is always good."

He nods his head, eyes falling away from me to look into the crowd. I follow his gaze, eyes crinkling in the corners when my eyes land on Tom.

He is standing and talking with Joyce and her boyfriend Andrew. Andrew has an arm around his shoulder playfully, and from the way they are all laughing, I can tell the story may be about something I did in high school.

"I'm glad all that worked out for you, three years together and you two still seem like its the first time you have met."

"I mean, look at Anthony and Mae, they look like its the first time they fell in love every day. Its just means the universe had a plan, and there was no need for changes."

Anthony's dad lets out a small sigh before leaning toward me, a humorous smirk playing on his lips, "I do have a question though."

I laugh, "What?"

"You two looking at having kids anytime soon? I mean, new house, settling down in a more quiet area." His voice trails, and eyebrow slightly raised.

I lean toward him, "I will say that its been in the conversation, but I can't say any more than that."

He smiles and nods, "Just gotta ask, Maisie and Roy have been trying, especially since they moved into their new home." His smile grows a little bigger at the mentioning of his eldest daughter, and possibly of being a grandfather soon.

A hand cups rests itself on my shoulder causing me to raise my head and smile up at the man standing above me, "Sorry to interrupt," Tom's voice flows into my ear as he leans down to wrap his arms around my shoulders. "But I was hoping to steal my wife for a dance."

"Go ahead man! I should grab mine while I am at it," he gives Tom a bright smile before looking back at me, his eyes softened, "It was nice talking to you (Y/N)."

"You too, Mr. Castro," I muse as Tom tugs me to my feet and leading me to the dance floor. He brings me close to his chest as we sway along to the music. I let out a small sigh, moving my hand out of Tom's and wrapping my arms around his neck so I can look at him.

"What?" He chuckles, arms encircling my waist as we sway.

"Nothing, I just love you."

"I love you too, darling." He leans his forehead against mine, humming along to the music. As the song changes into something a little quicker, Tom and I stay in our relaxed position. "Are you going to tell her before she and Anthony leave?"

"I will, but not tonight. I don't want to outshine their day with our news."

"And your family?"

I lean up and press a kiss to his lips before speaking. "Tomorrow, we tell them tomorrow."

"How do you think they will react?" He smiles, a sparkle in his brown eyes.

"First grandchild slash niece or nephew?" I mutter, making the corners of his eyes crinkle as he smiles harder. "I think they will tell us they thought it would happen sooner, but still be excited."

"Then we will have to tell mine-"

"I should warn my mom that your's don't know so she doesn't spill the beans." I giggle as Tom pulls me closer.

"I agree," he chuckles before leaning into me to kiss my cheek.

I sigh, resting my head against his collar bone. As I scan the room I finally find the bride and groom again, high school sweet hearts who never had to go through the tremendous heart break, and annoyance of having to go on date after date to find the right one to stand by their side forever.

I thank my lucky stars that Tom is mine. One date too many lead me to Heart Haven, which lead me to the best thing that had ever happened to me. How would have thought I would fall in love, without even knowing his name. Was it easy? No, but something that I had to work for, that I dreamed of finally coming true, was sure as hell worth the wait.

"What are you thinking about, love?"

I pull my head away from his chest as the song slips into something more upbeat, my hand resting just above his heart. "Nothing," I smile, "What are you thinking?"

Tom chuckles, leaning his forehead against mine, "That I thank my lucky stars that I get to spend the rest of my days with you, darling."

"And we wouldn't have it any other way." The world almost fades away, the soft tapping of glass signaling the groom and the bride to kiss, but I can't seem to lift my eyes away from the man across me and he leans in and kisses me gently. You were always worth the wait, handsome.

around june of last year, i decided to revive my writing blog as one of the many potential stress-relief methods i could think of.... i didn’t think i’d be able to keep it active for long since work + family duties keep me preoccupied most of the time, but eyyy!!! so far i haven’t lost the motivation to keep going back to this blog, and i even managed to keep it afloat for half a year!!! amazing!!! (•̀o•́)ง

and now here we are halfway through 2020!!! it’s waaaay overdue but here’s a big T H A N K Y O U V E R Y M U C H ! ! ! to everyone and anyone who dropped by this blog last year + all them likes, comments, reblogs...... please know that i’m still i n c r e d i b l y grateful for the support & interest in the content i’ve posted up!!!! tbh my activity’s still hella sporadic so it’s really amazing for me that i even gained new followers.... i’m very honored to have all of you stick around my blog despite my irregularity!!!!!!!! (༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ)

it’s also overdue, but i slowly managed and finally cleaned up the blog like i’ve been meaning to do + changed the blog name to match my ao3 handle for consistency!!! i make no promises to be super active... but i’m sure that i still want to continue writing & keep this blog alive!!!!

oct 1 // hero’s journey

a drabble on blanc + oliver about the alices... now that i think of it, calling the first alice first alice is kinda funny considering that alice is really her name... or is it?

i do hope blanc’s route talks about her a bit, haha! i mean, i wish cybird remembers that they’ve been dropping the occasional background tidbits about her... like for example, her pocketwatch (that she gave to blanc eventually) having a magic crystal engraved into it.... her potentially leaving a fucking globe in the black army’s possession (like... wow... u fell with that thing????????)....

plus, i just find it interesting that she was remembered by cradle as a heck of a troublemaker lol! it also makes you wonder who among the main cast met her, blanc aside... though it’s not stated when exactly she fell into cradle, so maybe only blanc had the opportunity of meeting her...

so does blanc speak of her fondly bc she’s a woman, or is there something else??? has he been frequently visiting the land of reason pre-game??? has he found the first alice’s antique shop / met her again??? does he still try to figure out the reason why there’s a magic crystal engraved into the first alice’s pocketwatch????? hmmmmm......

on another note, it would be hilarious if cybird pulls a peter pan 2......... since we can’t pull off a mother-daughter relationship like wendy & jane’s, what if alice the second is somehow actually related to the first alice?? and while she’s completely different from her predecessor, blanc finds himself falling for alice the second........ just like he fell for the first alice? drama!

that’s just a random thought but kidding aside, i do hope blanc’s route is hella interesting bc i think he’s our mr. exposition for knowing more about cradle itself lol

oct 1 // fair (?) ladies & phony (?) enchanters

a result of going manic a few days after seeing harr’s trailer + route release.... ahaHAHA I’M STILL WILLING TO PLAY UR ROUTE IN JP HARR (if i actually had time to sit down and translate gET REKT)

i liked writing these drabbles and i think they’re cute but tbh they did nothing to ease my curiosity about harr’s route.... if anything else, it became even w o r s e haha........................

if i think of blanc to have a cradle-centric route, i do hope harr’s route is magic tower-centric! naturally it will be since he’s got history there, but i hope a lot of my questions about the magic tower will be answered.....

will harr’s perspective of the magic tower be in the eyes of a test subject or a disciple???? he was scouted by the magic tower, but it wasn’t stated what he was doing exactly..... going by hints + loki’s & zero’s routes, it’s more of him being a disciple, so there’s bound to be guilt.......

hopefully alice’s characterization in his route is good + we get a fun group dynamic with loki!!! their potential.... the most(?) notorious criminal of cradle, a sought after test subject, and that one girl who nullifies all magic; a renegade trio lurking around the forbidden forest.... what an odd bunch!

oct 4 // god is a five minute hymn

a religious themed fic with lancelot & alice - tbh i don’t even know why religion was the first thing that came into mind when liz and i were talking about cultural differences, lol.

on that note though! i personally like thinking that if ever cradle had a semblance of a religion, it would be polytheistic & nature-centric, and not strictly practiced - the stratocracy of both territories i’d like to think makes it harder for religion to have a voice, much less have one that is practiced by the general population. the only thing general about it is that the religion centers or has magic crystals as an important factor... or something. yeah.

that aside, i think i specifically chose lancelot in this piece for the sole reason that his canonically stated lack of common sense, in my opinion, gives him the curiosity of a child sometimes - there’s no sense of malice or doubt, just the pure innocence of wanting to know something....... religion does that to kids, especially when introduced to it at first.

rereading the fic makes me think of the instances where when faced with dire or unsettling situations, people turn to faith as a life line.... well, i’m not sure if i had that subconsciously in mind when writing alice, but that does give a spin to it....

oct 6 // flow like the river nile

a spontaneous red army-centric fic! it certainly turned out better than i expected... i liked the formatting i used for this one!

if cybird can give us more about the pre-game suitors it would be great, tbh! and while the stuff about them in school is interesting, i’d like to see more about when they assumed their positions + combat scenes! the neutrals are special cases, but knowing more about their living conditions + daily lives is also a treat...

i was thinking of adding one last snippet about lancelot in the eyes of the reds, but i scrapped it out and switched it to alice & lancelot’s conversation about duty - it could’ve worked better if i stuck to using the what is your duty? question, but i scrapped it eventually too. ah well. it does look good enough as it is.

oct 7 // seeking out phantoms

a mandatory(???) odd one out aka content that’s not ikerev, haha! i missed fe:a all of a sudden...

i never got around to writing properly for this fandom tho, what a shame - i’ve got some bits of pieces in my drafts that looked interesting and easy enough to pick up, and this was one of them.

robin investigating more of their plegian heritage could’ve been a good subplot tbh... i still wish there was something like a paralogue or dlc about it, bc honestly the valm arc goes a bit slow until you get to the future past revelations. ah well.

and gaius bc first husband for the win.... not like i actually had the guts to marry anyone else in my other save files lololol

nov 7 // push me off a bridge (to catch me as i fall)

my longest project of 2019, holy shit! i didn’t know i still had it in me to write something past 10k... i need more of that motivation + energy....

there’s nothing much to say about this since i blabbed about everything in the post-reading notes, but as much as i fought myself to get this done, i really enjoyed writing a long fic again! hopefully i can get myself to write another one this year...

nov 18 // beloved, beloved, let me be clear

18 sentences on zero & alice + macross frontier references! man, when i really got to the point about the earrings i was thinking of sheryl a lot....

kept it in sentences cause i didn’t have enough time to put up a decent ficlet! but i really wanted to get my screaming out of my system....... i used to do sentences + three word sentences challenges before, and doing one again was pretty fun!

but really.... zero’s route kept me happy for days???? their buildup + dynamic was something i was totally w e a k for, no joke..... thank gods the collection event was going on, bc i really made good use of my stocked chapter tickets lolol!

i was especially excited come the ball scene, and that cg..... a h a h a.... i need more of those pretty cgs where i can see alice’s face + costume change.......

nov 20 // coloring inside the lines

jonah + alice + makeup!!!! tbh this was really fun, i enjoyed writing this one - if i remember, this was a fic that i managed to continuously work on the day i thought it up!

jonah may not be my best boy but tbh i find writing him very easy - i guess it’s because i’m very fond of characters like him!!! those uptight nobles who are as prideful as hell but can definitely live up to their name + are more capable than their bragging suggests... idk if there’s a general trope name for these doods, but i especially like analyzing their motivations + convictions!!!

i liked how i ended it, but i apparently i made an actual ending that’s now a snippet in my drafts - jonah & alice head to the ball, and somewhere along some bystanders’ flow of conversation someone drops a comment about jonah’s lips looking... quite more luscious than usual, lolol. so t h i r s t y. upon hearing this, alice can’t seem to stop smiling for some reason.....

a practice drabble set centric on a ray/alice development that i liked so much i made it into a series - plus, it’s black army content and honestly i need to write more of them! my red army bias is showing whoooooops

it’s a feudal + arranged marriage au, with the latter... being quite spontaneous. it’s those types of marriages where neither have even met - not even once - only to face each other come the wedding... so it’s a given that audiences from both parties are rather curious how this will turn out.

since i had the theme of fate in mind, ray was the automatic pick for the male lead. the rest of the black army is a given and for kicks, i added dean and dalim! i actually want to write about them + mousse, but since i’m still unsure on their characterizations i’ve been holding them off.... but i gave in anyway.....

alice is again named for word count convenience purposes since it’s in actual 100 words aka drabble form! i have planned scenes + an ending already in mind, but going there is pretty hard bc.... i still have to write the scenes in between + resist temptation to expand further on other scenes, haha....

initially i was planning to keep it updated here as well, but any more updates of this are on ao3 instead! the formatting looks better there instead of my blog tbh, and it also gives it a sort of muted tone to the story that works with me!

this is also the 31st fic in this blog, marking an end of the challenge liz bestowed to me lolol - since i brought this blog back to life around june, i was dared that by the end of the year, i should’ve posted more than 15 fics to add up to the initial 15 i had already posted before, thus the numbers on my fics back then.... now that i actually succeeded, i can stop counting lololol!!!! tho hopefully i can still be pretty active this year....

dec 22 // duck, duck, bullet

oliver & fenrir on guns... this probably wins as the most spontaneous idea i had on my head - tbh, i wasn’t even sure where i was going with it at first! but i’m sure i was suddenly thinking about that one detective conan movie.... then it became kid!oliver with a gun.....

i wonder if he tests the bullets at night, when he’s in adult form.... then again, kid!oliver with a gun still works.... say that because he’s a genius inventor, he made some models to serve as his shooting targets.... but another thought that amuses me more is.... blanc does the bullet testing for him!?

lololol i already thought about blanc being oliver’s live target, but i also find blanc with a gun very interesting.......... i mean, blanc certainly doesn’t look like he can fight, but who knows??? i mean, mousse is the former ace of hearts, but i still can’t imagine him fighting..... appearances can be deceiving....

the two aside, i wonder how fenrir even met oliver and got him working on his bullets........ was it through blanc or other connections???? how long have they been seller and buyer???? does anyone else commission anything from oliver?????? hmmmm.....

dec 23 // terms of surrender

i’ve been told by liz + luci + other friends that i needed to practice writing more.... cheesy fluff. i’m not sure if this sirius/alice piece counts, lol. in fact, i think it’s my definition of fluff i see here - and it translates to not exactly fluffy at all!

tho if you want me to be honest about it - when i write suitor/alice stuff, how alice was characterized in the suitor’s route is still my basis for how i’ll write her, and sirius’ alice................ haha......... i think she’s the alice that’s honestly easy to write but i choose to avoid..........

i don’t dislike the sirius/alice dynamic per se, tho. i do find it cute, especially if cybird stops emphasizing the issue of maturity in the relationship on alice’s side. i understand - i really do - that it’s a potential issue in the relationship, but...... that’s not the only problem you can possibly have as time passes, right?????

on another note, it’s funny that only sirius gets to be harped about the maturity due to age difference issue - setting aside blanc, who heavens know how old he is, lancelot’s 29 and since alice is presumed to be around ray + fenrir’s age, you could say that she’s 24 or even 23 to be safe.... so that makes a 5 / 6 years difference but it’s never brought up, lol. but i guess it’s because unlike lancelot, the black army’s been making sirius’ age a running gag....

anyway, this piece is pretty decent! i was thinking of something along the lines of mornings between a “married couple”.... there were two scenarios i had in mind, and i opted to write this one out first.... maybe i’ll have the second one posted up here another day.

dec 28 // a chain of black thrones

pre-game!sirius & ray and bc i was thinking a lot about the previous chosen, the former jack of spades!!! i wonder if the armies have a set age for retirement lolol... it would be awesome if there was still a chosen who’s already past his 50s or something, haha!

since sirius was constantly badgered to take on the role of king, i was also wondering about how long the black army was ‘king-less’... i mean, if the tension between both armies was really as great as they say, having no king puts the black army at a precarious position... i also thought that ‘nah, maybe there was a king or something but maybe the black army didn’t like him or something so they insisted that sirius take it instead’ but sirius’ 1st anniv. epilogue says otherwise - there really was a period that the black army had no king, wow. how the heck did they deal with that???? surely the red army saw this as a display of vulnerability....

can the black army’s chosen choose to leave their posts when they feel like it??? when they’re defeated by a challenger, what happens to them - a demotion, or do they serve under the ‘new’ chosen??? does the black army’s chosen change constantly because of their meritocracy + challenger system??? like, how do they deal with that, and do they announce their changes in chosen each council meeting??? each new question just snowballed my curiosity, whoops...

there were so many angles i thought of but i decided to settle for addressing the king-less state of the black army... through the eyes of a veteran who’s probably served many kings throughout his time of service as part of the black army’s chosen.

i gave this jack of spades character a name, actually - garret folner. maybe someday i’ll write him again, bc i actually enjoyed thinking about the present + past chosen interactions - maybe i’d think about that for the red army, but this time i find the black army’s side more interesting for this situation.

dec 29 // steadfast tin soldier

a zero/alice piece for zeroweek - i was about to post pt. 1 as a standalone, but then i just thought about how.... zero bought alice a gown.... but never got to dance with her at the day of the ball..... so i rushed to add pt. 2 haha!

with the addition of pt. 2 it looks cut short tho - i did think of putting a scene in between, but no good ideas came into mind bc i was too fascinated with the dancing scene... i swear at some point i will find myself writing a fic or a part of a fic that’s a dance scene for the rest of the ikerev suitors + alice....

this is the kind of fluff i live for, actually... i’m totally fine with the steamy content cybird throws during events + bonus stories, but if i were to be honest i say.... where’s my non-sexual intimacy????? the simple, wholesome stuff?????????????????

man, i feel hilarious for typing that out..... but well, i guess it’s a matter of different strokes for different folks, lol!

Friends on facebook wanted me to write this so I might as well post it everywhere else

SO CATS.

I currently am having a very hard time making eye contact with my own cat. I just look into those wide soulless eyes and see her for what she truly is- an agent of chaos, harbinger of the night; dare I say /jellicle/?

I am writing this after a long quiet drive home from the theater on a dreary night in the dusk of 2019. This is probably going to get rambly as I am not about to draft up some professional quality essay; professionals get paid for their opinions and I do not. So let’s just DIVE RIGHT ON IN.

I’ve done my homework before deciding to go see CATS (2019) and well aware (if not giddy with anticipation) for the spectacle that would fall into my lap nestled gently alongside my 7 dollar small popcorn and 6 dollar soda. It is common place for movie theaters to have cutsey little clips about silencing your cellphone for a movie and for safety reasons they will ask you to be aware of the location of the exits… but tonight folks, these were warnings to myself and my fellow victims- if the 5 Star Wars related clips hadn’t made us change our mind about what theater to be in then surley this would make us consider the safer route.

But we did not. Because we are brave, we are informed, and we are ready.

Here’s the thing- NO ONE IS READY TO SEE THIS NO AMOUNT OF PREPERATION IS GOING TO HELP YOU REALLY GET IT.

Now if you’re really into shock value then perhaps you may want to click that back button and hop out of my rambles because if you plan to see CATS (2019) for this reason then you may as well go in blind.

For those of you who might savor your hard earned dollar or maybe you have witnessed this spectacle then by all means grab a metaphorical stool.

The first scene on the screen is the friken sky and in the sky is this cat face that looks like something I might’ve cooked up in good ole’ PhotoFiltre back in 2003. They might’ve stolen this from my deviantart actually.

Anyway we get some music that kinda jarring and then this car pulls up and people hop out and this bag full of movement is just dumped on the street and all the cats kinda scurry up on their.. two legs to rip open the bag containing a cat named Victoria played by Francesca Hayward… and like honestly she and every actor in this film give 100% to their role (there’s two exceptions and we will cover them). Like it kinda sucks that this is likely gonna be one of those roles people are gonna remember for how jarring the film is. So within the next few minutes it becomes painfully obvious that every single one of these cats wants to bang Victoria! The sexual body language was so heavy handed that I tensed up and may or may not have stayed that way and may or may not still be recovering… it’s hard to say what I /feel/ like right now. I’m not here to give the entire movie away… there’s honestly not an easy way for me to summarize this and if you’re THAT curious you might as well go see it or pirate it. Though there isn’t really a “plot” to spoil and if you know anything about the stage production you may know that there’s never really been a “plot” to cats.

Now we gotta talk about some real highlights.

----------------------------------------- -The MICE- the mice have children faces and voices

-The COCKROACHES MY GOD THE COCKROACHES like human faces, all the flying I HAAAAAAATE cockroaches and this shit made me cringe so bad and then rebel Wilson just casually eating them .

-Jennifer Hudson’s snot trail was a main character honestly.

-THE BODY LANGUAGE… I will beat this with a HAMMER because FUUUUUUUUCK the BODY LANGUAGE- humanoid figures getting all up on each other like this just .. it’s jarring and I’m not sure if the film was misrated or if I am just a horrible pervert… would my mother have casually watched this with child me or would she had forced me to evacuate the room?

-It’s really weird how the boy cats don’t have a much detail in the pelvic region as the girl cats and I honestly think the movie is trying to make furries of us because WHY IS THIS A DETAIL I NOTICED?

-The CG is just crazy… like you need to see this BEFORE the “fixed” version goes out if you’re gonna go for shock value.

-A lot of the songs are honestly pretty good

-I’m pretty sure I can’t look Taylor Swift in the eye now either.

-Taylor swift’s part was hella small btw and honestly if you thought Taylor Swift was going to wreck the movie you’re pretty small minded and couldn’t see that this movie was going to wreck itself. But like… her part was a thing that happened and I am pretty sure the movie wanted us to feel as if it was sexy and maybe the people who left the room were leaving because they were in denial about these new feelings.

-I do have a ship from the movie now… because why the fuck not?

- I feel like I should have a personal cat name and the fact that I’ve made it to 28 years old without finding my cat name is pretty insane… I need to do better in life.

- all the elder actors in this movie gave 50000% like I wouldn’t be shocked if they drank out of saucers to warm up for filming.

- I was personally uncomfortable at how the elder cats looked at one another during some scenes.

- I liked Beautiful Ghosts better than Memories and I don’t really understand why everyone was hyping it so hard.. I can believe that the version in the play IS the BOMB af but as far as the movie? It’s a hard third cause railway cat was the shit. ---------------------------------------------

Overall- I feel like I MIGHT understand what CATS (2019) was going for.

I am a very weird adult as you all probably know- I was also a weird kid. As a weird kid growing up with pet cats I spent a lot of time just playing with the cats, or watching the cats (it was before I had internet ya’ll). And honestly…

I’m pretty sure this is a SPOT on depiction of what cats actually do

random nonsense… they make a lot of noise, or they don’t… they make huge messes or they don’t, they rub up against stuff, they rub up against each other they rub up against themselves, they kill things, they eat things, they run around with no sense of direction, they’re distracted easily and if they could talk they probably would make up words that are somehow adjectives, verbs and nouns all in one word and use it over and over and over again as if it has significant meaning.

So honestly core concept? I think I get it- cats are weird and do what cats do.

I dunno that I could ever sit through the stage production even if it’s leagues better given that it doesn’t really have a plot and it’s a lot of introducing different cats but like… the stage production probably worked because it’s not hard for a theater audience to suspend their disbelief.

When two well costumed actors on a stage rub up against each other your typical theater audience is gonna be like “oh yeah like cats do!” cause they’re used to filling in the blanks and using their imaginations because the stage is limited.

but in film? When you have a CG cross between a cat and human? It’s WAYYYYY harder to suspend that disbelief especially when the graphics are shit and there’s sometimes wedding rings on their hands so a lot of us are like “oh… okay these cats are just all gonna have an orgy I guess…. Okay… that’s uncomfortable”

apparently at some point there was going to be a fully animated cats movie with actual cats or at least just fully animated and that would have been easier to swallow… I think at least then you’re not in this quasi world of “50% real 50% fake”. It’s kind of a bummer that without the stage limitations this movie didn’t bother to do a lot of scene changes it might’ve been fun to see all these peop-cats dancing around different oversized stuff and the movie just didn’t really play with that idea much.

Overall this is just another one of those things that didn’t need a “live action adaptation” and the adaptation didn’t add anything of value to the existing media (looking at you Lion King, Jungle Book, Last Airbender, Lady and the Tramp, etc etc). but at least in this movie’s case it did take SOME risks by just existing where as every damn movie this year (except JoJo Rabbit) has played it so safe that they’re all predictable and forgettable (yeah tbh most of endgame…).

I won’t forget this one and that’s probably because there are some images that will be forever burned into my mind… but I won’t forget it for sure.
