Some small details in the Enola Holmes 2 trailer:
-When Enola is standing outside her detective agency, she’s wearing an inverness cape, which is something Sherlock Holmes is usually associated with
-Sherlock smirks right before his horrendous violin performance
-according to the newspaper, the year is 1885
-the banner draped on the building where the ball takes place reads “Matchmakers Charity Ball to Combat Typhus”
-the page of text that flips before Enola and Tewkesbury’s scene in the park discusses the history of etiquette for women taking walks (the gist of the page is that it was frowned upon for a woman to walk with a gentleman she wasn’t related or married to, but also frowned upon to walk alone; this rule was relaxed for certain things, including an ‘early morning’ stroll, and near the end of the century, this rule began to be more relaxed in general).
-Sherlock’s sword comes from his cane (the cane is different from the one he carried at the beginning of the first movie)
-Tewkesbury’s face looks recently injured during the sword-fighting scene
-Tewkesbury sword-fights left-handed
-the scene where Enola and Eudoria are riding in the carriage and the scene where Enola fights in the woods appear to be the same scene due to her clothes and a later shot of Edith’s carriage racing against the police carriage
-One of the last shots shows Enola and Sherlock looking over something; Sherlock holds a magnifying glass while Enola turns the object

Y'all would not GUESS the conversation i had with my friend yesterday while watching enola holmes
Her: oh, sherlock's his name?
Me: yea
Her: so she named her son detective? And he became a detective? That's kinda weird
Me: wait what are you talking about?
Her: sherlock means detective, right? It's like a title, like chief?
Me: no, it's a name
Her: what?
Me: yea sherlock is a name, it doesn't mean detective
Her: oh i thought it did bc of no shit sherlock?
Me: no, "no shit sherlock" is a reference to him, because he's known as a brilliant detective so you'd call someone sherlock sarcastically
Her: oh...
Her: wow, this sherlock must have been a really important man then, if people still use that expression years later
Me: ... what?
Her: yea, idk what he did but it must have been big right?
Me: honey.... sherlock is a fictional character
Her: ... what ...
Me: people say no shit sherlock because the books about this fictional character became so popular. It was a book series.
Her: ... he doesn't exist?
Me: NO!!!

I just love how humanity loves our detectives. Like,,, we're always playing with the classics, writing more, we just love solving things. David Suchet is THE Poirot, but we keep rerereadapting Agatha Christie's stories, because we wanna keep playing with this concept, try to figure out what was really making the culprit tick. The sheer number of Sherlock Holmes adaptations is overwhelming!!!! Both in film and book! We made him modern! We made him modern and American!! We gave him another sibling! (Ps my favorite book adaptations are by Laurie King (old man Sherlock solves crime) and Kareem Abdul Jabbar (more focused on Mycroft)). tbh this is why I think we keep redoing Batman movies! We just can't seem to get this funky emo detective man quite right!!!
Anyways, everyone should read more mysteries bc apparently as humans we're obsessed
Also if you need book recs,,,,, uhhhh I know someone (spoiler, it's me)

I love Henry and I support him 100% on his work and projects; I'm glad he's back as Superman and, as much as it hurts because I prefer Geralt a million times over Superman, I'm happy he left the show. It must be exhausting dedicating so much time and effort, even getting injured and all for a show made by writers who put the main character, whom they use for promotion, on the sidelines and kill main characters just for shock factor - I'd like to remind you all that according to Lauren, killing Eskel was because if they killed a new nameless witcher that they just introduced, it wouldn't have the same effect, which is nonsense since Eskel for people who didn't know about the books and games, it was just a new character and, for the people who actually knew about games and books, it's a beloved character who survives both stories, so introducing him and killing him in the same episode was a no no. This proved they're desperate to be Game of Thrones, shock people by killing important characters, which is sh*t because those deaths on GOT and mostly in the books and every death is important for the story and actually have an impact on the story - For example: Robert and Ned's deaths are the catalyst for the battle of the 5 kings to start.
I'm happy about Enola Holmes 2. I loved it so much and I hope there's a third movie -I'd love a Sherlock spin-off too.
I'm thrilled about him working with Guy Ritchie again!
I hope Argylle is good, I really do!
Is Highlander happening? I hope so.
Anyway, I think that Henry's future looks bright and I can't wait to see what comes next in his career!

hc that while lord tewksbury is absolutely not the official title or name he should be going by, it’s sort of just. stuck. he introduced himself to enola on that train, full title, and somehow what she got out of it was tewksbury. she either called him by his entire title, mostly when she wanted to mock or make a statement, or simply tewksbury. it was incredibly improper and childish but there was always something special about it. and now he’s heard it from enola for so long that when someone tries to address him properly, it never sounds quite right.

The only “Enola Holmes 2” review I care about is that my 50-year-old, Army Colonel, Sherlock Holmes super-fan dad enjoyed it and and thought it was better than the first (which he also liked)

Just finished EH2 and I have some Thoughts™️ (Potential Spoilers!)
First off, I absolutely loved the film overall. Still excellent production that exceeded the first one. They definitely had better budget this time around.
Second off, Henry Cavill. He is an icon, a legend and THE moment. Easily the best aspect of the movie
Holmesbury moments did not disappoint one bit. All squee worthy and gives me the warm fuzzy feels
Good plot! Kept me guessing and I feared a level of mediocrity but the twists were good and there was obvious effort put to the script
Helena Bohem Carter. Tis her!!!
Improved diverse characters! Realistic lives of the average Victorian women! It's not just bustles and corsets!
Dr. John Watson. I'm obsessed.
Now for the critique...
I wish Holmesbury was more of a slow burn. It seemed like it was going to be that way but they escalated from the reconciliation to play fighting and then to kissing which is adorable... but just not quite as satisfying? I wish there was a lil bit more of the will they wont they. It also kind of leaves little to work with in sequel films (if any). The love confession definitely would have had greater emotional payoff in a third movie.
Enola's reactions to finding dead people is a lil...off. i get that she's basically meant to be another Sherlock but she's still very much a girl and I'm sure coming across the first dead body (and one who died right in front of you!) would be a moment that would have been given more levity. An opportunity to show this young detective that this job isn't just fun, chases and intriguing puzzles
Where's Mycroft?
I know I have more thoughts but my head is still abuzz. Going to be watching it again with a friend tomorrow and I'll see what else I pick up!
Edit: Second watch thoughts posted!

Just want to talk about this scene in the Enola Holmes 2 trailer:
Tumblr media
Sherlock pulls his sword out of his cane. He straight up carries a sword in case of emergencies. And he throws it with IMPECCABLE AIM.
Tumblr media
Tewkesbury looks like he’s already been through a fight. Also, where is Enola? Does this mean at some point it’s just Sherlock and Tewkesbury?? What does that mean???
Tumblr media
This shot more clearly shows the cane hilt, which is different than the one Sherlock carried in the first movie. Actually, looking back on the canes from the first movie...
Tumblr media
This almost looks like Mycroft’s cane. Which means that either Sherlock also has a similar cane design that he uses only on certain outings, or he’s using Mycroft’s cane, which then begs the question of how Sherlock got it and whether Mycroft knows what it actually is.
Tumblr media
And then Tewkesbury fights with his left hand. Not only that, but when he reaches out to catch the sword he uses his left hand. It’s very possible he has left hand dominance.
I only bring up this last point because left-handedness is a huge part of the second book. The movie seems to be adapting the case pretty loosely, but I really hope that, if Tewkesbury does turn out to be left-handed, it somehow connects to what’s happening.

Has anyone else realized that Millie Bobby Browns main characters as she plays all start with the letter E. We have Eleven, Enola, and now Elodie.

enola holmes 2 thoughts! (or, well, mostly feels.)
millie bobby brown remains SO delightful as enola, i just love her.
that scene where enola + edith + mama holmes were all beating up cops in the woods to a hallelujah chorus was overwhelmingly joyful.
MAN, the matchstick factory plot. :’(((((((((((((( i thought the whole mystery was really engaging and pleasingly twisty, and the ending was really powerful, especially how it tied into history with the photograph at the end. i was a little sleepy when i started watching this movie but i totally perked up as the plot caught my interest.
moriarty!!!!!! obSESSED!!!!!!!!!
i love how helena bonham carter is basically just 100% herself in these movies, but with extra blowing things up. she and edith being enola’s mama guardian angels from afar was the best.
the enola and tewksbury romance is SO charming, it just warms my heart. it’s possible a tear nearly sprung to my eye when they were arguing outside the steps and also confessing their love for each other! they are just such a fun, sweet pair and a great portrayal of young love.
enola matchmaking holmes and watson!!!!!!! himesh patel as watson!!!!!!!! please i need at least one more movie for many reasons, but also so i can see them in action!!! i also love that they put this meet-cute in as the credits scene because you KNOW when the movie ended, i was yelling “BUT WHERE’S WATSON?????” thank you for anticipating my needs, credits scene. thank you for making it so i don’t have to endure another movie (assuming there might be one) where holmes is still watson-less. i don’t pay $16.99 a month to netflix to watch henry cavill and himesh patel NOT kiss!
please, i would do anything to have tewksbury’s plants room!!!!!
or that bathroom they danced in!!!!!!
it makes me happy that this movie exists. :)

enola holmes and tewksbury give me hope for future romance subplots in movies. they’re both individual characters, with individual goals and interests, but with a common fight. they’re equals. they protect each other. ALSO, the fact that they let him be the flustered one, the pining one: immaculate, amazing. the fact that the girl is the main character, and the guy is the one supporting her in her goals in genuinely not something i’ve seen a whole lot. also they both get to teach each other stuff, they match each other, they make each other better. he teaches her to dance and she teaches him to fight (both of those scenes were amazing by the way). they’re adorable, and sweet, and the perfect (if a bit cliche) execution of the Slightly Disgruntled Allies to lovers trope. i love them, 10/10, i have never before been so hyped for a main straight pairing

In hindsight, Eudoria's decision to name her daughter Enola feels so much more consequential in the sequel. Enola being a reversal of the word "alone" takes on new meaning when the narrative emphatically stresses that no one is meant to be as such... 🤯!
