Pls rant about something. infodump to me. I want a loooooong one about your interests. I require something to read
not really an interest, more something i dont shut up abt, but here you go: the rant about an arab muslim about palestine and israel (imma try to explain the whole situation from the beginning but dont surprised if i get pissy at times)
zionists, not jews
first off, i wanna clarify this: zionists are who i blame for palestine. not jews. jews are an ethnoreligious group, zionists are people who support the creation of israel and encourage the literal recreation of the holocaust that theyre creating. im not anti-semitic, im anti-zionist. know the difference.
okay, now thats out of the way, lemme explain this next point: how did the conflict even begin? (i feel the need to explain this bc the media never does and the history is so so important)
the history
zionist movements began in maybe mid 19th century, jews worldwide were being persecuted and they wanted a land to themselves. they had their eyes set on palestine, even tho the palestinian bedouins there have been living in palestine for at least 1500 years
wwii left millions of jews stranded, so in 1947, the united nations suggested dividing palestine into a jewish and arab state. the jews accepted, but the arabs rejected it. this rejection was ultimately ignored, and israel declared itself a state in 1947, leading to palestinian arabs being displaced and a war starting between israel and arab nations. this was known as nakba—literally the arabic word for disaster, it mainly refers to palestinians being displaced after israel declared independence
the six-day war of 1967 was a conflict ultimately won by israel—they took control of the west bank, the gaza strip, and east jerusalem. conflicts got worse from here, and violence against civilians grew. its been snowballing since then
is it between jews and muslims?
no. its between jews and arabs. palestinian christians are some of the oldest communities of christianity worldwide, some being able to trace their history back to the birth of the church. its between the jews that claim the land to be theirs, and the arabs who have actually been on the land for longer than the 75 years since israel was formed (nearly 14 centuries longer, to be exact)
why i care so much
its not just because im arab, or just because im a muslim. of course, it is partially that—seeing my brothers and sisters get killed hurts me, esp knowing that theres not much i can do except pray to god that this ends.
yes, israeli citizens die every year bc of the conflict. im not saying that number is nothing. but the palestinian civilian fatalities are so much worse.
Tumblr media
the total deaths from 2008 to 2020 for palestine is over 20 times more than israeli deaths. (note that this graph is not up to date and does not include the hundreds of palestinians who have died since 2020. no, im not exaggerating. hundreds. i wish i was.)
some of my best friends are palestinian. the idea that they know people, or their parents know people, who have died at the hands of israelis, is absolutely not acceptable.
like my friends, millions of palestinians are now scattered across the globe, or in danger in their own country where zionists are trying to take their land.
this conflict is disgusting and wrong. jews have less of a right to that land than arabs. yes, jews have been living w arabs in that land for centuries, but its always been predominantly arabs. always has been, always should be.
and yet zionists refuse to accept it. take a look at this article from the times of israel:
Tumblr media
kanye is infamous for supporting hitler. all jenna did was say that palestinians deserve to live.
this honestly tells you more than anything else can.

for everything's sake if only I had enough mental resources to explore other people's ocs (jenna......... ethan......... kaida........ ) instead of constantly throwing things about my own girl
(just saw the post about ninjago ocs crawling into others' heads and that destroyed me so bad I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THEM BUT I WOULD HIVE ALL MY PROPERTY TO THEM)
also hi levi have a good day :D
AAAA HII LMAO I HOPE U HAVE A GOOD DAY TOO TOO!!!
RAHHH I'M SO GLAD YOU LOVE THE THREE KEEDS!!! I WOULD DO THE SAME FOR THEM TOO
me, taddy and finn combined both taddy's dad jay au and my early family au together and boom we're the Dad Jay Group™ 😎
ofc kaida is @taddymason's oc and if you have the time and wanna know more about kaida, you should go read taddy's fic Everything I think I know is just static on the radio! IT'S SO GOOOD AND SO WELL WRITTEN AND THE FRICKEN ART THROWN IN THERE??? AND THERES SUCH GOOD ANGST AND FAMILY BONDING AND-
I. I think u get it. there's also her ongoing fic for kaida and jay Lightning pin which is (technically) a continuation of the first fic!! read both. I beg of you. you will never love an oc so much
jenna and ethan are both still in the works too!! my fic of them on ao3 is currently being rewritten (long story short: it was my first fic, and the writing wasn't the best and there were alot of things I missed) and I don't know when the heck I'll finish, but I'll get there!! I have alot of ideas for my children and fics I could do for them in the future but I need to atleast get past the reunion part of the story before I make anything bc my ideas mostly have nya and jenna bonding in 'em, but with how slow I am I might get impatient and just write whatever idea I have lmao
I do draw them alot tho!! these are my most recent ones! (ignore that jay design since I kinda changed it now)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
andd here's some art taddy made of jenna too!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at kaida and jenna, hellspawn siblings <333
AND I'M STILL NOT OVER THE SECOND ONE IT'S SO GOOOOD RAHHHHH

Linkin takana kääretorttuteos Särkynyt Todellisuus (Pelastakaamme Suot!)
Tumblr media
Teoksen vaihtoehtoinen toteutus on huomattavasti alkuperäisteosta kaoottisempi, mikä lienee kuvaus taiteilijan turhautumisesta nykytilanteeseen:

I was reading this old post of yours (tuiyla[.]tumblr[.]com/post/680831769638993920/how-well-written-do-you-think-blaine-finn-and) and thinking about how Finn and Quinn are really the writerly inverses of each other. The audience during initial airing may have bought in, but with time and distance, I think a lot of fandom is very "you can tell me he's the hero, but I'm not buying" and "you can tell me she's the villain, but I'm not buying". 1/2
And maybe that's why Promasaurus is SUCH a trainwreck. It's when these two unearned character frameworks crash directly into each other. To the point where they even have the "hero" trying to assault the "villain" but seem utterly unaware that that's what they've written. 2/2
Oh I've touched on the trainwreck that's Promasaurus (re: Fuinn) as well before. I think that's a good point, Anon, since Quinn and Finn are probably the two characters with the most fucked up framings in opposite ways.
I've long theorized the extreme reactions Finn and Quinn sometimes get from fans but that extreme being the inverse of one another and of what the show theorized are because fans have to counterbalance the show's framing. Even when Quinn changes and does good stuff, she's reset by the writers and we're all but told to despise her. Look, she's shallow and duplicitous and a bitch, even after years' worth of supposed character development. But we like Quinn! Because you can't make her go through what she does and have sympathetic moments without the audience growing to like her. Equal but opposite is Finn, who does some of the most fucked up shit on this show but we're constantly told he's oh so great and it becomes exhausting when the show cuts him so, SO much slack. And so fans, or me at least, don't. Because the show already lets him get away with everything but never extends the same to Quinn, hence the opposite reactions.
But the real problem, as is the case often with Glee, is the lack of nuance. More specifically, that Glee refuses to acknowledge that it's actions rather than people that have moral value. In the show's eyes people like Finn and Will and (to a lesser extent) Rachel will always be Good because they're the Good Guys™ so even though they make mistakes they're never Bad. They can't do things that are Bad and get proportionate consequences. But Quinn (and Santana and sometimes Puck) are Bad and their good moments are in spite of their characters, not something they're equally capable of. It's like they're in constant danger of getting shoved back into the villain zone whenever it suits the show.
Of course, we know life and even fiction don't work this way. So it's baffling and frankly disturbing to watch a scene like Finn foaming at the mouth and attempting to assault someone in a wheelchair and still getting rewarded for everything he does. It wouldn't be so bad and we wouldn't have such contrarian responses had they allowed space for nuance in the story. Maybe have the narrative acknowledge that Quinn wasn't doing anything so outrageously bad. Hell, maybe let's acknowledge her very valid trauma. And let's frame Finn as the asshole he's being, for once. They can still stay The Hero and The (ex-)Alpha Bitch overall, fine, whatever, but for the love of god let go of that strict moral baggage every now and then.
This is very, eerily similar to what goes down in regards to The Outing and IKAG, btw. Because Finn can't possibly be the bad guy, surely he meant well, and besides Santana's the bitch in this situation! The dissonance is astounding. Appalling, too. But as much as there are valid Finn and Santana parallels and dichotomies writing-wise, Finn and Quinn are arguably a stronger case and Promasaurus an excellent example of how, even late into season 3, Glee was incapable of regarding these characters as more nuanced than their initial boxes.

Hello cool artist, I like your work even if it’s a small amount, I would like to trade, what do you think about it?
Hello, thank you! To be honest, I'm quite busy this week because of all Xmas/New Year pictures I want to draw so I'm afraid I won't have enough time to do trade in time... But if you're ready to wait, my DMs are open for discussion!
I think your art is pretty cool too :D

WHO IS HOOR
SHOW ME THEM
(i go crazy because it's the name of a dead friend of my oc and it blows my mind)
hoor is a new oc I made along with bahr! here's a lil doodle of her:
Tumblr media
she and bahr are both arab, and compared to bahr she's much more energetic, the "too much energy, no energy" meme is basically them lol. hoor actually lived in the same villiage cole did! bahr lived close to her and she and bahr met when they were kids, but then bahr had moved after an *incident* so they didn't see eachother for years, they only met again coincidentally a while after s11 and managed to reconicle then
I love her your honor I could ramble nonstop about this girl for days lmao

some years ago I bought Mortimer J Adler's "How to Read a Book" because I was bad at reading books. I read a bit, dropped off, and persisted for years in thinking that I would be better at reading if only I could summon the will to finish the book. Well I finally came back to it and it wasn't very helpful. Thank god. The tracery of neuronal connections that were devoted to feeling bad about it can be repurposed for a new fetish or something. Anyway, it seems important to record what I did get from it, because I am a bad reader and it's good to crystallize the tasks or principles that can move me forward.
the fast first pass
Adler distinguishes between "analytical reading" and "inspectional reading". Analytical reading is complete reading, thorough reading. Inspectional reading is to skim systematically, with the aim of determining what a book or passage is about and how it is structured. Reading the table of contents carefully is part of this, as is skipping to the chapters that seem most load-bearing and looking at the summary statements at the beginning or end to see what the core arguments are. Adler convinced me to always do this with nonfiction – it is good not to be surprised by the structure of something you've decided to commit hours of your life to.
[Readers who did not even read the table of contents] are thus faced with the task of achieving a superficial knowledge of the book at the same time that they are trying to understand it. That compounds the difficulty.
He's also a fan of fast first passes of a difficult book. Don't stop to ponder shit. Don't look up words. It's okay to be superficial. Race through it, and it will prepare you to read it well the second time.
The tremendous pleasure that can come from reading Shakespeare, for instance, was spoiled for generations of high school students who were forced to go through Julius Caesar, As You Like It, or Hamlet, scene by scene, looking up all the strange words in a glossary and studying all the scholarly footnotes. As a result, they never really read a Shakespearean play. By the time they reached the end, they had forgotten the beginning and lost sight of the whole. Instead of being forced to take this pedantic approach, they should have been encouraged to read the play at one sitting and discuss what they got out of that first quick reading. Only then would they have been ready to study the play carefully and closely because then they would have understood enough of it to learn more.
reading speed
The correct reading speed differs per passage even in the same book, and my problem is that I usually know what it is but go faster than it. It's a terrible habit that impedes my understanding and my enjoyment. Adler suggests using your finger across a line of type and following it with your eye. (Actually, he suggests this for the purpose of learning how to read faster – by moving your finger slightly faster than your comfortable reading speed, you will be forced to keep up. But it seems that it should work equally well for slowing down.)
ask yourself questions
To read actively in an analytical reading pass, you should ask yourself questions. (When I hired @eka-mark as tutor a few years ago and talked about how difficult I found it to learn from textbooks, they gave me the same advice – have a question in mind that you're trying to answer as you read – it'll focus your mind.) I frankly don't like Adler's questions*, so for myself I'll say: whatever questions naturally bubble up for me on the first pass, I will try to answer on the second. *what is the book about as a whole, what is being said and how, is the book true, how does it matter to you as a reader)
with fiction specifically
"Read it quickly and with total immersion, if possible in one sitting, so that the unity of the plot does not escape you."
my addition
I believe this but seem to be bad at acting on it:
I can read about 500-2000 books in the years I have remaining of life. Read Kindle samples first and give up aggressively. (If I read more than 30% of the books I sample, I'm probably doing something wrong.) Make the first pass, and don't bother doing the second if the first showed the book to be unexceptional. The complement of reading well is to choose good books to read.
