i love kaeya because there's so many ways his story can go.
will he ascend to celestia? is he an abyss mage/herald? is he the long lost prince of the eclipse dynasty in khaenri'ah? will he betray us? will he betray his homeland? was he frozen in time for 500 years? is he actually just a descendant of some khaenri'ahn people? is he working with the fatui? is he pierros son? can he wield magic and fakes it with a makeshift vision? and there's a lot more options and i have genuinely no idea where his story could go, or it could go nowhere! because hyv hates us and kaeya

it's been bugging me for a while, but do the people of teyvat know what an eclipse is?
I.... I'm not sure actually.
Khaenri'ah has the eclipse dinasty so they at least should know what an eclipse is, especially if you subscribe to the theory that the sky in Khaenri'ah is the real one and shit. But Teyvat? I'm not sure...
Mona doesn't seem to describe any astronomical fenomenon that isn't just the standar sky. In fact, I'm not sure if she even describes the stars as moving (obvs correct me if i'm wrong and stuff). Is the sky in Teyvat just... stationary?
Like even if they hear og the eclipse dynasty, they could think it's like a surname or a fake word invented by Khaenri'ahns like Alchemy. So it wouldn't be proof that Eclipses exist to Teyvatians and shit...

still rolling perinheri around in my head btw. that "the eclipse is swallowed by the crimson moon" line from dainsleif's introduction makes a lot more sense now. lol
#personal stuff#delete later#what's with khaenri'ah's dynasties being moon-based. you guys do not have a moon down there.#or maybe they do? enkanomiya had a fake sun sure but maybe they stole one of the moon sisters' corpses or something idk.#joking. i know there's a line about them glimpsing the sun and the moon in perinheri.#the line about the seas being used as a metaphor for the space projected by the stars... oh mona stars lore we're really in it now#but yeah they really said sorry no dain quest with the march update like normal :( here's some khaenri'ah lore snippets instead#the crimson moon dynasty being all about alchemy and beastmastering... the rifthounds coming from this time...#so rhinedottir's probably from the crimson moon dynasty then.#this means little to me since we have no idea how long the eclipse dynasty lasted before the cataclysm happened#still cool to know more about the dynasties though. khaenri'ah lore that doesn't revolve around the cataclysm my beloved.#i mean it does kind of. it lends context to the cataclysm in that the crimson moon [dynasty] swallowed the eclipse [dynasty]#or at least the legacy of the crimson moon dynasty [alchemy; beastmastering; and likely a connection with the abyss] did that#really curious to know if there was like. political unrest in khaenri'ah based on the two [or more] dynasties vying for power?#hmm. also alberich namedrop in perinheri wooo#diluc and kaeya shaking hands our family name comes from a guy way back when who was a knight!!

4.6 has just been released but! speculation for 4.7:
What if Dain takes us to explore Khaenri’ahn ruins that are related to Crimson Moon dynasty? I feel like it could be educational for both him and the Traveler

𝐂𝐋𝐗𝐗𝐈𝐈. The release of the book collection Perinheri brought a few new details about Khaenri'ah that were mentioned previously one way or another but never specified more in depth as they do in this collection. One of the topics of interest I've found is the existence not only of the black sun and crimson moon as the astronomical phenomenons present there as the norm (solar and lunar eclipse respectively), but the names that the two dynasties take after: Crimson Moon Dynasty as the earliest upon Khaenri'ah's formation and Eclipse (or the old Blacksun) Dynasty, each name taking after the current astronomical phenomenon that Khaenri'ah is exposed.
Simultaneously, these two dynasties have aspects that differentiate them clearly from one another:
Crimson Moon Dynasty → During this period —which goes as far back in time as the times when birds had yet to be split into domestic and wild kindreds—, an orphanage was established in the pursuit of individuals who could transcend gods that came from outside the Kingdom. Said transcendent one never came, not even at the end of the Eclipse Dynasty punctuated by the Cataclysm.
A special command of knights existed that would no longer be present during the Eclipse Dynasty, and that is the Beastmaster Knights which used darksprites (riftwolves and their family of beasts) in order to fight outside sources of danger that poured from the Abyss. These darksprites are said to have been created via alchemy and more precisely yet, their first creator was none other than Gold.
Eclipse Dynasty → The period that came after the Crimson Moon Dynasty, known to be a darker one yet than the previous one. The prospect of using beasts to fight foreign sources that could bring dangers to the kingdom has fallen into disuse and instead, automatons began to be made and used in their stead. Nevertheless, towards the end of the civilization of Khaenri'ah these darksprites were being used in spying operations such as in Sumeru, or as a means of testing dangerous automatons in the making in outside factories.
Furthermore, it's relevant to mention that creation through alchemy continued even if these beasts weren't used anymore as part of the kingdom's military, granted that Gold aimed for bigger creations such as Durin and Elynas among other beasts as well as human creation with Albedo being her finest work of all that is known.
One last thing of interest is that the eclipse and the crimson moon were mentioned together in another instance that is Dain's official introduction:
◜[...] Chalk pursues gold, in this time inopportune, the eclipse is swallowed by the crimson moon. [...]◞

I swear, Dottore was written by a former STEM graduate. People don't normally write mad scientists this way.
Whenever I try to dig into deep lore, his research repeatedly turns out to be among the most useful data I have.
I know a good study when I see one. I've been on both sides of the academic hiring process, I've written grant proposals and I've reviewed them and I've seen better scientists than me discuss them, so please understand how much weight I put into this: these are very good studies.
(except for, you know, ethics)
His research topics seem random but he actually pokes at the most fundamental questions of Teyvat with each one.
His Eleazar studies dig at the relationship between forbidden knowledge and dead gods (surprise: these are different things. I might have lumped them together if not for his notes).
Cloning himself pokes at the difference between machine and man, and also it's the technology of Eclipse Dynasty, Teyvat's main historical enigma. Have you ever wondered whether all ruin guards were men once? Or why did they switch from alchemy to ruin machines so abruptly? Or why they were cursed.
(I have a suspicion it also pokes at the nature of time and stories, the way he talks about a need for an ideal observer, and also the way Khaenri'ahn history went)
Delusions answer the question of why does Teyvat need Archons for Visions to appear and for humans to be able to use elemental magic. We don't know the answer but Dottore does.
I'm eyeing his artificial god because I don't think that what we saw in Sumeru was the final project. He seemed so nonchalant when it failed.
This is theoretical science at its finest. As a cherry on top, every project also yields practically applicable results.
He's a dream of every grant commitee.

Stygian Sun: Total Eclipse - WIP
Tumblr media
DEMO TBA
Tumblr media
After the deaths of your four oldest siblings, taken from you by war, your older sibling, Nour, once fifth in line for the Solar Imperial throne, is now the heir.
This day never should have happened.
As recompense for the ravages your kingdom’s war has inflicted upon the Lunar kingdom of Celestyl, and as assurance it will not happen again, your sibling is to be sent to Celestyl to marry the Lunar King’s heir. An arranged marriage, meant to unite the kingdoms. Or, at least that’s how everyone prefers to phrase it. But you all recognize this for what it really is: a guise. Your sibling will be a political hostage.
And—Theia, grant you guidance—you have had a premonition this is not the worst to come. Should your sibling go to Celestyl, they will not survive.
So you will take their place.
Stygian Sun: Total Eclipse is a dark fantasy interactive fictional story where you play as the sixth child in the proud and grandiose Solar Imperial Dynasty and leave your homeland for a foreign country, where you will take your sibling’s place in an arranged marriage to the heir to the Lunar Kingdom. But something sinister simmers on the horizon—you have felt it in your premonitions; apprehension crawls beneath your skin, foreboding pricks at the back of your neck, dread sinks low and heavy in your stomach. Theia is warning you—of what, you know not, but you have seen the way the Lunar King looks at you. His stare, the dagger, and you, the sacrificial lamb on the altar.  Beware the wolf, little lamb.
Content Warnings: "Stygian Sun: Total Eclipse" contains many upsetting themes, such as arranged marriage, child abuse, child neglect, death, murder, sexually suggestive scenes, optional sexual content, suicidal ideations, and more. "Stygian Sun: Total Eclipse" is intended for mature audiences 18+. Viewer discretion is advised.

Tumblr media
Nour al’Teia, your older sibling. (Gender dependent on MC’s. She/her. He/him. They/them.) Non-RO Once fifth in line for the Solar Imperial throne, Nour was perfectly content to play a supportive role to Parim, first in line, and the rest of their siblings. Now first in line for the throne, Nour is doing their best to step into a role they were never prepared to fill. Despite their best attempts to reassure you, you can tell this weighs more heavily on them than they let on.
Tumblr media
Kieran Zeleskas, the Lunar Heir. (Gender Selectable. She/her. He/him.) RO The Crown Prince/ss of Celestyl. Though not of noble birth, events put into motion by their father have elevated them to this position, one they seem to have adapted to rather well by all appearances. Stoic and aloof, they seem less than pleased about this arrangement between the two of you. You’re inclined to agree.
Alektis de Celestys, the lone princess. (She/her.) Non-RO The adoptive sister to Kieran. The slaughter of her family during the coup that brought Kieran’s father to power has rendered her irascible and hostile to most everyone. Though she mostly keeps to herself, with only her retainer, Nihm, for company, you often find her tumultuous glare trained on you, a complex look on her face you can’t quite decipher. (Character portrait coming soon.)
Nihm de Circené, the guardian. (They/them.) RO Devoted retainer to Alektis and last surviving member of House Circené. Kind and sociable, Nihm is well-regarded in both noble and commoner social circles alike. However, their warm and affable disposition cannot completely hide the apprehension in their gait, nor the trembling in their hands. Still, they do their best to welcome you in a place where everyone seems dead-set on hating you. (Character portrait coming soon.)
Tumblr media
Aurynn Anouar, the retainer (He/him.) RO Seeming to have appeared from out of nowhere, Aurynn rescued you from a dire situation during your first battle experience, and afterwards was appointed your retainer and has served you as such ever since. Charismatic, laidback, and flirtatious to a fault, Aurynn tends to either charm or annoy everyone he meets. Despite his insistence that he is an open book, sometimes you can’t help but feel the opposite; indeed, everything about him seems shrouded in secrecy.
Tumblr media
Samira Nahdiri, the priestess (She/her.) RO Certain events left her family deeply shamed and nearly destitute until her exceptional accomplishments as a healer elevated her to the renowned position as your acolyte, drawing upon the power of your blood to learn healing magic in her pursuit to become a priestess. Strong, loyal, and compassionate, she is devoted to caring for her family above all else, and she counts you among them.
Tumblr media
Lilith/Lucien de Arcanis, the mage. (Gender Selectable. She/they. He/they.) RO The adopted heir to House Arcanis, a line of powerful and highly skilled mages. Wild-eyed with a wolfish grin, their peculiar and eccentric mannerisms tend to unsettle their peers, leaving them rather isolated in social circles—a circumstance which doesn’t seem to bother them one way or the other. For better or worse, it appears they’ve taken a rather intense interest in you.
Poly Routes (subject to change): Kieran/Aurynn, Samira/Aurynn, Lilith/Lucien/Aurynn.

PROLOGUE. MEMENTO VIVERE
“Please do not send him away.”
Your vision blurred as you rested on your knees in front of the man, body folded into a bow, eyes squeezed shut to try to force the tears away. Around you, the few survivors that made up your group whispered and you knew they had nothing good to say--the last surviving member of the Eclipse Dynasty on her hands and knees in front of a lesser family, begging and pleading with them to listen to you…
You hated that they still put so much weight on your blood, your should-be station. They called you ‘princess’, looked at you to lead them--but you were a princess of a kingdom that had long been destroyed, and you were only a child. The world around you crumbled and burned, poison seeped through the land and monsters roamed, starving and viscous, the sun never rose and you were meant to be salvation--the one to lead them from the darkness, to a livable world.
Sometimes you wished that they had never found you outside of the ruins of the Tungl palace after your father had passed, you wished that they had let the rifthounds tear you to pieces, you wished they had let the draugr devour you. You wondered if you would be better off dead than forced into a role that you knew you were not meant for.
Except the dead did not die in Khaenri’ah, you reminded yourself, they rose again without mind, hungrier, savage. Was that really the fate you would have preferred?
You did not have time to linger on the question. Aina Alberich was tugging at your bicep, trying to force you to your feet. You did not rise, remaining in the bent over, kneeling position. Your hands shook against the ground, chest heaving.
“Do not send him away.”
A pair of boots shifted in front of you, and you flinched as a hand came atop of your shoulder.
“Look at me,” the heavy voice of Osmin Alberich met your ears, and you forced yourself to look up, unable to blink away the tears before they began spilling down your cheeks. “We must take advantage of the passage to Teyvat. We cannot survive he-”
“I will go,” you interrupted loudly. “I will go to Teyvat.”
“That is not an option,” Osmin shook his head, brows furrowed deep. “We do not know what Teyvat is like, how dangerous it will be-”
“So instead you send your son?” you cried out, rising to your feet. “To an unknown continent, with dangers we’ve never seen before? For all we know, it could be worse than our current situation.”
“And such is the duty of the Alberich clan,” Osmin said firmly. You couldn’t bring yourself to look him in the eye, unable to stand the cold and unmoving look in them. Instead, you dragged your gaze to Kaeya, who stood behind his father doing his best to stand strong but you could see the fear hidden beneath his eyes. “We’ve stood at the side of the Eclipse Dynasty for millenia, protecting and serving. Kaeya will travel to Teyvat and he will make sure the land is safe. Once he confirms it, we will follow.”
“Why don’t you go?” you accused, finally looking back at Osmin. “You are an adult, a seasoned warrior, and yet-”
“Someone needs to stay back and protect the group, to protect you,” Osmin didn’t let you finish, and you faltered, eyes darting around to the rest of the group--the elderly, the crippled, a pregnant woman and her infant son. No one strong enough to defend against an attack from a pack of rifthounds or the draugr.
“Princess,” Osmin knelt in front of you, voice quiet so no one else could overhear. “I do not want to send my son to a foreign land but I must put our people first. Always. He will return, and we will see brighter days. Have faith.”
You swallowed thickly, your fingers trembled as you nodded. You inhaled sharply, straightening your shoulders as you stepped around Osmin to stand in front of Kaeya.
“May-” your voice cracked, you exhaled and closed your eyes, trying to calm yourself down. You rose your right hand and began again. “May you be given the knowledge to follow your path, may you be granted the strength and courage to complete your journey, and may you find your way back home at the end of your travels.”
You fumbled to unpin the Inteyvat flower from your top, to signal the completion of the ancient rite of blessings that the Eclipse Dynasty bestowed on Khanerians traveling to foreign lands--a rite that had not been performed since before the Cataclysm. Your ears rung as you listened to Osmin and Aina murmur to each other in the background.
“I will bring him to the passage,” Aina said. “I would like to be the one to see him off, you stay with the princess and the others.”
Your fingers trembled as you pinned the flower onto Kaeya’s shirt, clasping his hands in yours as you looked him in the eye.
“We will meet again.”
---
Blood stained your hands and your face, your body shook like a leaf as you knelt at the corpse of Siriana, who had shielded you from the claws of a rifthound whelp that had appeared from behind the group.
It was supposed to be safe. You felt sick as you tried to hold pressure on the wound, even though you knew deep down that Sirana had passed. The path to the palace was supposed to be safe.
“Princess!” you could hear Osmin roaring your name, fighting through the pack of hounds to get to you. “Princess, move.”
You looked up, lips wobbly and vision teary as you tried to spot Osmin but you were only met with the slaughter that had taken place surrounding you--the bodies of your companions torn to pieces by the rifthound whelps, the gore strewn across the dark ground, the blood fertilizing the dead earth.
Everyone was dead.
A particularly loud shrieking noise came from behind you, a whoosh of air, and your eyes widened as you spun, coming face to face with an adult rifthound, electricity crackling around its body as it swiped at you. You couldn’t move, from all of the training that Osmin had given you, now faced with an actual enemy you were frozen in place, waiting for death to fall upon you.
Except it didn’t.
Someone slammed into you from behind, sending you careening toward the cold, damp ground. A sharp cry came from above you and you scrambled back to your feet, fear tugging at your chest as you tried to figure out what happened. “Osmin!” you cried out, watching the rifthound claw into his chest, a damning blow. “No!”
Osmin was undeterred, driving his sword through the rifthound and forcing it to portal away. He didn’t hesitate as he reached for you, grabbing you by the arm and hauling you up, half-carrying, half-dragging you away from the remaining rifthounds and the massacre. Your gaze trained on the blood dripping down his chest, the armor that was shredded by the rifthound--the skin was already rotting around it.
“Osmin,” your voice came out as weak and wary, but the man didn’t care, stopping behind a crumbled pillar, grabbing you by the face and forcing you to look at him.
“You must run to the palace,” his voice was hoarse and harsh. “The rifthounds will not follow you in.”
“Osmin, come with me,” you were trying to bite back your tears. “I don’t want to be alone.”
“I will not survive,” the words were bitter to your ears, a scraping noise that made you want to cover your ears and run, “and it’s only a matter of time before the others return. You have to be long gone by then.”
“Osmin, I’m not ready to be alone,” you gasped, the fear and panic finally starting to hit you. You had been alone once, for weeks after your father’s death--you couldn’t survive that again. “Osmin, don’t leave me.”
His grip on your face tightened, “You must focus, princess,” he said sharply. “Run to the palace, take refuge there. Remember that you must live.”
You wanted to shake your head, you wanted to refuse, but Osmin was pushing you away, in the distance, through a crumbled arch, you watched as Sirana’s arm jerked.
“Go,” he said, drawing his sword to turn around. When you didn’t move, his voice sharpened, “Go!”
With a sob at your lips, you took off in the direction of the palace, shaking, refusing to look back as the sound of Osmin’s blade clashing against the claws of another rifthound whelp met your ears. Your lungs burned against the cold air, like knives scraping your insides--each breath you took tore against your throat, your feet slammed against the ground so hard it sent shocks up your shins to your knees.
You could see the palace in the distance through your blurry gaze--the crumbling white and gold walls, the large silver arch.
You would make it, you realized, hope blooming in your chest. You would make it.
But even as the words drifted through your head, there was a strange whooshing noise from behind you. You turned on your heel, eyes wide as you spun around to figure out what had appeared behind you.
A rifthound?
You realized too late, you were too slow to bring your hands up to block the blow to your face, one of its claws coming down to catch your forehead, dragging down through your right eye to your cheekbone. You let out a terrible shriek, hands flying to your face, blood dripped through your fingers as you tried to scramble away. It burned, your head spun as the pain began to envelop you.
Your breath was sharp and ragged, nails digging into the dirt to try to push yourself up, Osmin’s plea for you to live ringing through your head on repeat, but the skin that was slowly rotting around your eye was a death sentence. You couldn’t bite back the next sob, the pain beginning to be too much for your body to handle. You pressed your hand to the right side of your face harder, trying to stop the bleeding but your hand only slipped against the skin. You looked up and you swore everything around you slowed as the rifthound twisted in the air to come back and finish you off.
You tried to move, you did, but your arms and legs were too weak, and the pain was clouding your head. You were unable to look away as it came down on you but right before its claws made contact with your neck, it was being sucked back into a vortex.
Your breath shuddered, your good eye widened. Osmin? Did he survive and come back to help? Hope bloomed in your chest as you tried to figure out who had sent the rifthound away. But it was not Osmin whom your eyes landed on.
A woman with long hair, a dark cloak and golden eyes that burned bright against the darkness of Khaenri’ah. Her gaze was curious as she drew closer to you, standing above where you were crumpled on the ground.
“A child of the Eclipse dynasty, how fascinating,” she murmured, kneeling down in front of you to grab your chin and tilt your face up toward her, swiping away the hand you had covering your wounded eye. “I had been under the impression your entire bloodline had died out.”
“Who are you?” your voice shook as you asked her the question, trying to push away the pain that was exhausting all of your senses. The woman smiled at your question.
“You may call me Gold.”
--
“The Eclipse Dynasty was known for its proficiency in the Art of Khemia prior to the Cataclysm. When Khaenri’ah fell, the form of alchemy was all but lost to the world.”
“I will do better,” your voice shook as you stared down at another failed experiment. You could feel the judging eyes of Gold bearing down on your back. You forced your shoulders not to shake as you took in another breath. “Next time will be a success.”
“Once we teach you to harness the power of Khemia, I will take you from this place--bring you into the Order that will overthrow the rule of the gods that led to the fall of our home.”
“There will be no next time.”
Gold’s words were harsh and cold, knives dragging down your bones. You froze, you couldn’t bring yourself to turn around to look at her, even as you heard her packing up her tools.
“What?”
“Do not fail me.”
“The Abyss Order has no room for failures, I told you this in the beginning. I gave you many chances, more than what I would give others.”
She spoke so matter of factly that your arguments dissolved--that even as you rose to shaky feet, you weren’t sure you knew what to say. You caught sight of yourself in the broken mirror across from yourself, faltering at the scar cutting across your eye. It had healed for the most part, thanks to Gold’s alchemic abilities, but right above your eyelid and below your eye was stubborn, it wouldn’t fade away, and your vision would never properly heal, Gold had claimed--haunted by blurs and shadows for the rest of your life.
You forced yourself to look away, turning to face Gold, whose back was already turned to you as she finished packing up her things.
“I will not fail next time,” you told her, voice pleading as she began to walk away from you. You chased after, tears pooling in your eyes. “I won’t fail, I was close, I felt it this time. I’ll get it, don’t leave me.”
It was a lie, and you knew Gold knew it. This time had felt no different than the last time she had tried to teach simple Khemiac alchemy to you. It had been nearly a year since she had taken you under her wing and you had made no progress.
Could you blame her for giving up?
A sob bubbled in your chest, you tried to bite it back--Gold despised signs of weakness. You couldn’t blame her. You had heard her talk about the Abyss Order and its grand plans, and she had been wasting time in the ruins of Khaenri’ah trying to teach you the Art of Khemia when she should have been planning with the other executives of the Order.
But why can’t she take you with her? Leaving you here…
“Take me with you,” you begged as she stepped outside of the ruins of the palace, “Take me with you.”
… it was a death sentence.
Gold turned on her heel, chin raised, expression hard and you froze where you were standing on the steps of the palace. You knew what her answer would be before she even spoke. Your heart sunk deep in your chest, your body trembled, you bit down on your bottom lip to stop it from wobbling.
“There is no room for failures in the Abyss Order,” she repeated, “blood of the old dynasty or not. We do not have the resources to spare and even if we did…”
Even if we did, failures were not welcomed.
“Give me one more chance,” your voice was little over a whisper, and Gold ignored you. You watched as a portal formed behind her, you watched as she stepped into it. Your panic rose, invading all of your senses as you chased after her. You stumbled down the steps, tripping over debris on the bottom one and falling to your hands and knees.
“Don’t leave me here!” the desperate shrill of a cry escaped your lips just as the vortex shut behind her.
The following silence was cold and empty, a heavy realization weighed on your shoulders as the distant howls of rifthounds and savage cries of the draugr met your ear--you were alone.
--
You weren’t sure how long you had remained in that spot wasting away. The rifthounds and draugr had begun to gather, stopped only by the old enchantments that protected the palace--as long as the blood of the Eclipse Dynasty remained, they would not be able to break through… but they were waiting, they knew you were on death’s doorstep, they knew it was only a matter of time before the enchantments fell.
You were hungry, and you were cold, and you weren’t sure why you were cold because the city around the palace was the only place in Khaenri’ah that burned eternally--remnants of the old war that would not fade.
You could feel yourself dying, you could feel the way your body weakened with each passing second, the way ice spread through your veins and your skin felt numb to the touch. Osmin’s words rang through your head: “remember you must live.”
But you didn’t think you’d be able to rise to your feet even if you wanted to--and a part of you wondered what the point would even be. You were trapped in Khaenri’ah, surrounded by rifthounds and draugr, you were out of food and you were out of willpower. You would die here, you were certain of it.
So lost in your thoughts, you didn’t even hear the commotion coming from the courtyard, not until the head of a draugr rolled to the ground in front of you. You could barely bring yourself to look up, your head felt light at the movement, it strained your neck.
A man, you recognized in the distance, drawing closer to you. In your state of half delusion, you could almost imagine Osmin rushing toward you, cursing the gods for having let him be separated from you for so long, promising that he would take you from this wretched place to go find Kaeya.
Almost.
The man was not Osmin. Osmin was dead, likely a draugr prowling the ruins of Khaenri’ah by this point unless another group of survivors had managed to stumble across him and put him out of his misery, free him from the husk he’d spend the rest of eternity as otherwise.
You didn’t recognize the older man even as he kneeled in front of you, pulling his cloak off and laying it across your shoulders. You could not feel the warmth. He laid a hand against your cheek, lips twisting down.
“You’re freezing,” he murmured, eyes searching your face momentarily before recognition swept through his face, you couldn’t gather the strength to respond. “You are-”
He cut himself off, swallowing as he let his head drop into a bow. “Princess,” he murmured, and you swore that if you could cry, you would have--you couldn’t stand the cursed title and all of the misfortune it had brought you. “I’ll take you somewhere safe.”
He didn’t wait for a response, scooping you into his arms as he rose to his feet. Your head rested against his bicep as you looked up at him. His gaze drifted around the ruins of the palace in a way that was nothing short of longing, as if he were reminiscing old memories.
“Who are you?” your voice was weak and scratchy, and you wondered if he hadn’t heard you because he didn’t acknowledge your words. After a few moments, he let his eyes fall back down to you, and your eyes widened as you recognized the diamond-shaped pupil of his left eye.
“Pierro. I go by Pierro.”

It was like your world was just thrown off its axis, everything became off balance.
The waters were choppy, crashing and biting at your boulder, another thing trying to knock you off your feet and drown you in pain. Eclipse was high in the sky, and everything was shadowed in darkness as if the whole world disappeared after his death. His last breath took the last shine of light from Pandora, took the calm, and brought the storm.
Your heaving cries drowned out the noise around you, they mixed with Neytiri’s wails of eternal heartbreak. Your hands clutched Neteyam’s limp hand beside you, his knuckles cutting into your cheek as you waited with bated breath for just a simple squeeze, just a sign to show he was still breathing and holding on. But it never came, his touch was cold and lifeless, and his soul had left the physical plane.
Your blurred eyes flitted around at your company. Lo’ak beside you with his head down and staring at his bloody hands, he probably felt Neteyam’s heart slowing down and stopping. Tsireya at Neteyam’s legs, her hands holding his calf and she rocked her body as she silently cried at the loss of a new friend, Spider standing behind her. Neytiri was on the other side of Neteyam as she thrashed and roared, her wet pleas to the Great Mother, asking her why, why her son. And Jake, Jake who stared into the open space, body motionless and eyes numbed before they squinted in the distance and his head looked away to the lone demon ship.
“Lo’ak… where’re your sisters.” His hoarse voice caused a shiver down your spine. Your time of grieving stopped as you looked for Kiri and Tuk, neither sat anywhere on the giant rock with your family.
“Lo’ak,” your voice wobbled as you turned to him and touched his cheek, needing his undivided attention, “where are Kiri and Tuk?”
“They-” “Where are your sisters!” Lo’ak flinched at Jake’s raised voice, his eyes watering.
“They were on the ship.” Tsireya hiccuped.
You and Jake looked at the vessel, its stability looked off as it tilted in the thrashing waves. The both of you shared a look, you knew what needed to be done and quickly. Jake moved to Neytiri and wrapped her shaking body into his arms, his chest solid against her shaking back. You walked to your two loves, one who was in visible distress while the other was walled off at the moment. You had to shut your emotions down seeing as your girls were in danger and you weren’t losing another child tonight.
“‘Tiri, oeyä yawnetu (my loved one). Our ‘ites (daughters) are in danger, we must save them. They will not meet the same fate as our Neteyam.” Your hands cupped her cheeks, her hazed eyes staring into yours. You gave a kiss to her forehead before turning to the children, giving Jake a moment to break her daze.
As you did with Neytiri, you knelt before Lo’ak and held his face in your grasp. You looked into the eyes of your youngest son, the one who held the most qualities with Jake physically and his reckless behavior when he was younger. Tears slipped down your cheeks, you couldn’t bear to part ways from him, but he would be safe away from the remaining sky people.
“I need you to stay here with Tsireya. Do not come to the ship, it is dangerous and I- I- we could not bear it if something happened to you or your tsmukes (sisters). Wait for us to return.”
“But I-” “No!” You leaned your foreheads together, shutting your eyes closed and holding back the tears, “Please, Lo’ak. Just- just listen this once.” Your voice cracked at the end, and the thought of something happening to him fashed over your mind. “Please, do it for us, for Neteyam.”
You felt his head nodding at your pleading words. A ragged breath was released at the simple action. “Oel ngati kameie, ma ‘evi (I see you, my child)” A lingering kiss to his forehead before you pulled away and joined Neytiri on her ikran.
-
The sun shone high in the sky.
A new day has risen, but you weren’t awakened to shouts and cheers of childish glee. You weren’t held in the warm embrace of your lovers, their scents and gentleness didn’t invade your five senses. You weren’t being bombarded with tickles or bodies jumping atop you, pushing the air from your lungs.
No. You were back on the boulder with your whole family, Tsireya and Spider included. Kiri and Tuk were safe, Lo’ak was safe, Neytiri and Jake were safe and you were safe. The adrenaline of the situation has worn off, you weren’t in a life-or-death moment anymore, and the water has stilled. So with shaky legs, you walked back to the lifeless body of your eldest son, not by blood, but by love- by family. His chest was cleaned of his dried blood, a courtesy done presumably by Tsireya, the poor girl was probably traumatized from the pain and bloodshed that her tribe never had to experience before. You collapsed on his left side, watching as Neytiri held his head to her chest, her lips speaking into his hair or leaving kisses on his temple. Tuk sat beside her, her smaller hands holding Neteyam’s right one to her cheek. Her tiny cries break your heart, cracks forming with each hitch to her breathing.
Your own hands reached for his free left hand, it just lay lifelessly on the rocky ground. You touched each finger individually, and felt his palm, before bringing it to your lips and leaving ghostly kisses on the skin. You lay his knuckles against your chest, right where your heart beats. Needing to bite hard into your lip to hold back the cries and pleas, only silent tears show your physical pain. Bringing his hand back to your lips you whispered words wishing he could hear them.
“I love you, oeyä fkew tsamsiyu (my mighty warrior). You were our first blessing as a family and we could not be more proud.”
“Paskalin (honey).” Jake’s touch and voice pulled you away from slipping. You looked over your shoulder and into his solemn eyes, his face covered in cuts and scars. “Jake…” your lips wobbled into a frown, vision blurring with fresh tears, “I- I-” He shushed you, hands gently pushing your face into his neck, his lips caressing your skin.
“We have to get back to the village.” He muttered in your downturned ear. All you could do was nod and hold Neteyam’s hand tighter.
-
“We must begin preparations for his funeral. Jake and Neytiri will cleanse his body.”
You stepped up, “I am his mother as well, I will help.” Ronal kept her back to the three of you for a second before turning on her heels, a sharp look pointed your way, “he is not your biological child, he did not grow in you. This is-” “He was my son! I do not care about blood! If you will not allow me to join my mates as they- as we bid our goodbyes to Neteyam in the Cove of Ancestors, I should be allowed to help prepare his body before we part ways.”
You always held respect for the leaders of tribes, but will not let something as simple as different blood be the reason you aren’t given proper treatment within your family. You were with Neytiri as she announced her news to Jake, you were with her as she went into labor and you had been with Neteyam since he took his first breath of air in the world. He was your child and you lost him when you were still getting to know him.
“Please Ronal. Let us have this one piece if she can’t guide him to the Great Mother.” Jake’s voice was firm but held a begging tone that was obvious.
Her sharp eyes darted between the three of you, her tight shoulders sagging just a bit. You knew the three of you looked disheveled, with puffy eyes and tear streaks over your cheeks. Body ready to cave in from an invisible weight held on your shoulders. Eyes staring into an empty void.
“Fine. Now come, there is much to do.” Her walking resumed, the three of you just behind.
She walked into a mauri pod, bowls of water and woven twine were set to the side. You stopped when your breathing faltered once again at the sight of Neteyam, just lying peacefully on the floor with his eyes closed and arms beside his torso. He looked like he was just sleeping, enjoying dreams of whatever he wanted most from his life. If you didn’t look close enough you could imagine his chest moving with every breath he took, but you did stare and his chest sat still, not a twitch of his fingers or a tickle of his nose.
With jagged steps you stalked further in the pod, knees bending under the weight of your grief and you toppled to a stop beside his legs. Hands touching his lower leg and knee, his skin was cold to the touch causing a sob from your lips. You bent your head and curled in on yourself, letting the tears flow and the weeps free.
Your son was dead.
Arms pulled your back into a solid chest and a second pair of hands tenderly caressed your face and lips leaving sweeps of kisses over your trembling form. The hands holding your face turned you towards them, your eyes meeting the hollowed look of Neytiri. Her face was devoid of emotions, with no scowl or smile on her lips that you loved to indulge in, no furrow to her brows, or crinkles to her eyes. She was just empty and tired, heartbroken.
“Ma tìyawn (my love), we must begin. We need to clean him.” Her thumbs swiped over your wet cheeks. You could only stare back into her eyes and swallow your cries before you nodded your head. Jake’s arms slipped from your shaking body and you walked away to grab a bowl of water and a rag.
You sat on your hunches and soaked the cloth. With a shuddering breath, you closed your eyes for a moment to collect yourself and when you opened them you shut down. You rang the cloth to dispel the excess water and when you were satisfied, the material touched his shoulder and you wiped the dirt off his skin. Neytiri soon joined the process, sat on the other side of Neteyam’s shoulder and she tipped a bowl over his skin, her eyes following the liquid.
From the corner of your eye, you saw Jake sitting next to Neteyam’s legs on your side. He ran his cloth gently over his skin, it reminded you of when he was a child and Jake would wash his body in the pond near your mauri. You dipped the rag into the water again and rung it out, the water starting to get muddy with grime. You moved your work to his face.
You leaned your body at an angle with your right arm holding you up as you used your left hand to swipe the rag over his stilled features. He looked so much like Neytiri, he was so much like Neytiri. Fierce and protective, a strong warrior. Gentle and friendly, reserved mostly but will pounce when intimidated. He would have made a glorious Olo’eyktan if he chose the path. You wish he could have been given more time to live as a child, not have to worry about battlefields or have a constant eye on his roaming siblings.
With a final swipe to his brow, you gave a teary smile at your boy.
You looked up at Neytiri. Her eyes were closed as her head was tilted to the ceiling, hands resting on her thighs. There was a crinkle between her brows that you wanted to smooth over with your finger or a kiss, but before you could do either, choked whimpers drifted into your ears.
Jake was hunched over Neteyam’s legs, his locs hiding his face, but you saw the shake to his shoulders. He was crying.
Without a second thought, you joined his side, arms wrapping over his shoulders as you pushed his head into your chest with your chin sitting on his head. His arms circled your waist and held you tight as his tears fell to your skin. You shut your eyes as a fresh wave came upon you, the salty drops splashing your cheeks.
“Oh, ma Jake.”
“I‘ve failed him. I’ve failed my job as a father.” His lips grazed your skin as he spoke harshly of himself.
A deep furrow to your brows at his self-derivation, “No, no. You have done no such thing. It is those sky demons who have forced this fighting onto us. You have been doing your best at keeping us, our family safe.” You burrowed your noses into his hair and gave quick kisses in succession, “Do not let our son's death be in vain. He would not want you to use his passing as an excuse for harshness on yourself.”
Your hand caressed the back of his head with the other settled between his shoulder blades, the muscles moving with each hitch to his breath. You squeezed your eyes closed once again and just breathed, focused on your breathing and Jake’s. One the silent crashing of the water surrounding the mauri and picking up what quiet hiccups of Neytiri.
You weren’t sure how long you were frozen in that position, the scene not changing. All you know is eventually Jake’s cries were subdued and then Ronal entered the space in a different outfit. All your eyes were on her as her head was held high, but her eyes were gentle.
“It is time.”

Is it wrong to date a guy from an enemy faction when your country doesn’t exist anymore? Asking for a friend
A kaebedo au in which kaeya lives in a spy drama and albedo in a sitcom
Note: Minor spoilers for some lore from Pernhari lore books
Given what we now know about how the crimson moon dynasty came before the eclipse dynasty and was more focused on alchemy, i would like to submit a theory that albedo is from the crimson moon faction
His master rhinedottr is famous for her alchemy after all, and he followed in her footsteps.
Not that these factions mean much to albedo, k’hanriah is long gone, and there is so much more in the world to discover
But Kaeya! Kaeya was sent as a spy by the k’hanrians who haven’t given up yet, they still have hope and cling to old traditions.
They served the dynasty of eclipse, of course the differences between crimson moon and exclipse matter to them
Especially if i go out on a limb and theorize the crimson moon had something to do with the fall of k’hanriah. Like a revolt or political infighting. Side eyes “the exclipse was swallowed by the crimson moon”
So it makes sense why neither kaeya nor albedo were aware that they’d meet another k’hanrian in mondstat, much less another captain in the knights
Kaeya spends a day in agony, fully expecting albedo to jump him and make kaeya follow some new “mission” or something
That is until albedo mentions alchemy, specifically kemia. The pride of the crimson moon’s alchemists.
Combined with albedo’s seeming lack of knowledge as to who kaeya is, this can only mean one thing.
Albedo isn’t a spy from eclipse here to get Kaeya back on track. He’s a spy from crimson moon here to do the same thing as kaeya!
Naturally kaeya can’t let an enemy spy get to close to mondstat! Especially since they might not be friendly like him!
Plus he’s grown up on stories that blame the crimson moon for k’hanriah’s fall. (Also the gods and abyss, but come on, we all know the rival political faction was the real enemy here) he does not want that to happen to mondstat
So kaeya decides to get close to albedo, feel him out and see what his intentions are, and dispose of him if he needs to.
Unfortunately for him, a wrench is thrown in his plans in the form of Klee. Sweet, loveable klee who adores her big brother albedo so much, and would definitely cry if he were to suddenly vanish, and he just couldn’t do that ot her (also there is an all powerful witch who will definitely destroy mondstat if they make her precious daughter cry)
Now kaeya must find other ways to handle mond’s latest ticking time bomb and figure out his secrets, all while trying to ignore how those eyes make his heart skip a beat (from fear, he lies to himself)
Meanwhile, albedo clocks kaeya as a k’hanrian from the eclipse faction the moment he saw him. Given how it was all over kaeya’s clothes, he thought this was intentional.
And sure, kaeya never talks about his homeland, or his people before mondstat, but given everything that went down its probably a sore spot. No one else brings it up ir comments on his heritage so albedo just assumes everyone knows and no one talks about it out of respect for kaeya, and some other illusive social cue.
So when kaeya starts getting close to albedo, with his signature flirty moves, albedo does not think this has anything to do with crimson moon vs eclipse. He thinks this is just kaeya trying to get to know the new captain
Maybe he’s curious about alchemy?
So he shows off a few cool potions to a wide eyes kaeya
Kaeya internally: is this a threat?
Albedo internally: i am winning at social interaction 😁
Albedo figured kaeya would get bored of him soon enough, when he realized that albedo’s job of alchemy is a lot more math and a lot less cool explosions.
But when kaeya sticks around, asking questions about albedo’s past, befriending klee, expressing curiousity in what exactly his potions can be used for, albedo starts to get suspicious
It’s not the alchemy itself. Albedo offered to teach kaeya some small potions and kaeya all but leapt away in his haste to refuse (those childhood stories of “touch alchemy and u die” realy stuck with him)
So he goes to sucrose and timeaus and asks them.
Sucrose is equally baffled, wonders if maybe kaeya just really likes chopping up ingredients
Albedo: hmm. He does do it everytime i ask…
Timeus: oh my archons, kaeya has a crush on you.
Albedo decides to test both theories. He stops letting kaeya cut his ingredients, but that doesn’t deter him. So he checks to see if Kaeya is attracted to him
By silently crowding close to kaeya to hear if his heart speeds up
Kaeya meanwhile, has a stone faced alchemist pushing him into a wall, is absolutely thinking he’s about to be murdered (and that it’s hot)
Albedo notices the speed up. Ahh so he does like me.
Kaeya: i have to go now! Proceeds to rush out the door.
Albedo is confused. If kaeya likes him, why is he running?
He asks timeus and sucrose. Sucrose offers to stalk him for a while to find out why. Timeus replies that albedo was “too forward” and that people like “to be chased”
Albedo, chasing kaeya: is this what u want?
Kaeya: oh god he’s gonna kill me!
The method that albedo picks to woo Kaeya is to offer him a fancy lunch he cooked, complete with a traditional khanrian delicacy: the spider sandwich.
Kaeya does not enjoy this, his mind running wild trying to figure out what albedo is trying to say to him by feeding him spiders.
Albedo decides he can’t trust Rhinedottr’s ideas of “traditional delicacies” (who knew her spider sandwich wasn’t normal?)
So he turns to sucrose, who has been stalking kaeya. She proposes a date that she has gathered from her research: take him drinking.
Now if albedo had started with this, it probably would have gonne much easier for him. But after a week of being stalked, chased, and fed spiders, kaeya’s guard is way up.
He’s convinced this is an attempt to get him drunk to get information out of him. Well good luck with that, kaeya’s no light weight, he’s certain he can drink albedo under the table, and get him talking instead
Albedo is a but hesitant when kaeya suggests a drinking competition, but goes along with it.
The result is a very drunk albedo cuddling up to kaeya and whispering the periodic table seductively in his ear.
Kaeya was not prepared for that. Not at all. He comes back home thinking that the crimson moon really trains their spies to be good at keeping secrets
Albedo comes back to his home confident at a successful first date
Things continue onward in their will they won’t they, until one day kaeya wakes up in bed with albedo, in matching pjs, klee sleeping between them, and realizes that seduction was the crimson moons game all along, and he lost.
But oh well, its not like he’s really following eclipse’s orders anyways. He thinks as he goes back to sleep
The end

Thanks to perinheri we now know three diffrent knight factions that existed in khaenri'ah.
1- the black serpant knights aka the royal guards led by dainsleif. Since we have no record of a royal family whatsoever for now ig we just have to assume the entire fucking army was there to guard irmin and MAYBE abyss twin. Which sounds ridiculous so surely we MUST have a royal family? Does irmin have any children and have we met/ heard of them in game?
2- schwaneritter aka the swan knights. We have a grand total of four names from them out of which only two seem to be relevent: Anfortas (((alberich))) who was supposedly their leader and Hadura aka senitel of the golden hall who due to unknown reasons betrayed the other knights and fought anfortas, a battle in which anfortas lost his RIGHT EYE👀👀👀. (The other two are Hildric and ynghildr. Ynghildr I love you to death and back but you're just not important to the lore.) Now I said all that just to point out the fact that these guys where the ones who fought back the abyssal monsters attacking khaenri'ah AND part of sumeru. Which is intresting cuz what were the black serpant knights doing then? Did they dissapear along with irmin before anfortas became king regent? Or did they stay and join his forces? We know that dain was also in sumeru at this time so the latter seems more likely but idek.
3- our newest addition, the beastmaster knights!! They were briefly namedropped in perinheri and from the name alone Im guessing they handled the monsters and beasts that leaked into khaenri'ah?
Tumblr media
These. And perinheri also made it sound like they were no longer around during the eclipse dynasty because they had ruin machines now. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS? THE RUIN MACHINES WERE MADE AS A MEANS OF PROTECTION AFTER ALL!!! THEY WERENT PLANNING TO ATTACK THE OTHER NATIONS WITH THEM. or at least that wasnt their primary purpose. W for khaenri'ah sympathisers (me).
