For those of you who enjoy a spot of cosmic horror (TMA, Malevolent, The Sheridan Tapes, Archive 81 etc), Duggan Hill should be strongly considered.
It's got great sound design, memory fuckery, shady organisations, blessings that are curses that are blessings, drowning on dry land, and a lead who's willing to commit desperate violence for the people she cares about. She's even gay.

Queer Horror Fiction Podcast Recs
Today, I want, as always, to remind everyone that we're crowdfunding for the first season of Before The Tone.
But I would also like to recommend some other queer horror podcasts I enjoy!
I am defining queer horror as horror fiction with at least one queer character in the main cast.
- Jar Of Rebuke - Midwestern horror with a protagonist I adore, Dr. Jared Hel, who can regenerate after dying,
- Hello From The Hallowoods - Comforting apocalyptic horror coming to you via broadcast in dreams from your loyal host, Nikignik.
- The Sheridan Tapes - Mystery with supernatural elements. What would you do to save yourself? What would you give to save yourself? Who would you give to save yourself?
- Duggan Hill - An attempt to find her missing ex-girlfriend leads to more horror than could have been imagined.
- Modes Of Thought In Anterran Literature - This is a college lecture on Anterra, the oldest human civilization to have maybe never existed.
- Haunted House Flippers - Comedy horror! Tom and Janet move into an incredibly haunted house and Tom podcasts about it! Every character is a delight, from Janet and her mattress machete to the ever-suspicious Lee to Cilantro the undead cat!
(But do listen through "The Tour Guide" because Janet IS wonderful given time.)
- The Antique Shop - More supernatural fiction than horror with an aroace protag. Maya has just begun work at the increasingly strange and fate-tied Madam's Antique Shop.
- WOE.BEGONE - A gruesome game with a wonderfully unreliable narrator and increasing numbers of Mikes.
Go listen to all of them if you're at all a fan of queer horror.
And if you are, you may also enjoy Before The Tone, so help us out by supporting the Indiegogo for campaign-exclusive stickers, writing, artwork, & more.
Less than 3 weeks remain to raise $5,700!

People here need to listen to Duggan Hill. The story is gripping and the whole production of the show is amazing- im actually surprised more people haven’t listened to it
The story is of Zoe DeBiers searching for her ex girlfriend Sasha Ismond. Who disappeared on a small country road outside the town Duggan Hill, Saskatchewan. The story has a lot of eldritch horror(ish) elements and some very interesting characters.
I’m on the third season and I still think it’s great. Please listen to Duggan Hill - if you like TMA you’ll probably enjoy this

The story starts off with a…

When I heard Gerry Duggan get asked on Cerebro, white boy to white boy, about the unfortunate optics of announcing and then immediately murdering the least white team of X-Men in years, I knew we'd be in for some shit. Man, did he deliver - after some evasive waffling about how ORCHIS is meant to be fascist, and how the story's point is to put the collective back of mutantkind even more against the wall than it was any of the last six times something like this has happened.
And, honestly? That's fair! This year's Hellfire Gala is ultimately the first part of a larger story, and history shows it's not going to last forever — hell, does anyone remember what the status quo was immediately before HoXPoX? At least this time most of the characters have implicitly just been sucked into Mother Righteous's magical Poké Ball, rather than outright killed; if anything, that's an improvement. I was fully content to just think "hey, not for me," and get back to ignoring everything beyond Immortal and Sabertooth, secure in the knowledge that certain topics are bound to be handled poorly when almost everyone in the room is white, when Duggan said three words that stopped me in my tracks:
"Keep the faith."
See, that struck me, because for a lot of us, this entire era of comics has been about nothing but faith. I've been reading X-Men, and engaging with fans since I was eight, and I've never seen the kind of collective buy-in from other marginalized readers that I have with Krakoa. X-Twitter (or, I suppose, X-X) has been Blacker, queerer, more disabled, less homogeneous than the fandom has ever been, all of us buying in to the implicit promise that this time things would be different. Sure, the line was headed by a presumably straight white guy, but there were other voices in the room for a change, and it really felt like they were going to be listened to. We thought we'd moved past clunky metaphor, past queerbaitimg and awkward racial gaffes. Storm and Kwannon were getting to do stuff, Arakko was full of amazing characters of color, Cyclops and Wolverine were probably fucking, we were hooked, and we turned out.
It's hard to overemphasize just how wild this was to see in real time. X-Men has always been allegory, sure, but it's traditionally allegory by and for the majority. For years, the readers who might really feel that resonance, those of us who have been hated and feared for the unforgivable crime of being who we are, we were afterthoughts, tolerated at best. We got scraps, "representation" from creators who seemed to be offended by the implication that we would ever want something other than being fetishized tokens. We were, as Hickman so succinctly put it, told that we were less when we knew we were more. And then, out of nowhere, Krakoa made us inescapable.
The two biggest X-Men podcasts, X-Plain the X-Men and Cerebro, are hosted by queer people. X of Words has been rocking the Black, queer experience like no one's business, Mutant Watch has been a joy to listen to and to be on. Not just podcasts, either, in everything from criticism to fanart to cosplay, voices have been elevated that were previously silent. I mean, hell, I've gotten paid to talk about comics, that shit never would have happened four years ago.
All of that was based on faith.
Faith that we were being celebrated, for once, instead of just used. Faith that for whatever growing pains there might be, things were going to be better.
And let's not fuck around here, there were growing pains. In the first year alone we dealt with everything from blatant whitewashing, to queerbaiting — any Sunspot fan can go into detail there, assuming you can get one of us to stop crying for long enough. While that was going on, we watched Bryan Edward Hill (the only non-white writer in that initial wave) put out a book that was, let's face it, at worst aggressively mid, only to be excoriated by certain portions of the fandom, and dropped by the office, while significantly worse books managed to hold fast — er, hold on. Not to say that Fallen Angels was without sin, mind you, the book was packed with enough orientalism to make Chris Claremont blush. But, at the same time, Wolverine's first year ended with him doing what he does best: trying so hard to be Japanese that I had to check to make sure he wasn't Marvel's editor in chief.
Through all of that, we kept the faith.
Things didn't really get much better, of course. Arakko was a fascinating concept, and felt like it damn near doubled Marvel's characters of color. And yeah, the ending of X-Factor was one of the most poorly handled racist messes I've seen this side of… well, any given day on Twitter. Sure, the whitewashing has never stopped, to the point where everything from X-Corp to this week's Hellfire Gala has had to be hastily edited between previews and release. Maybe we keep dealing with stuff like butchered AAVE, even more queerbaiting, Kate Pryde's funeral, the genocide of almost all of those Arraki characters, and whatever the hell was going on with Lost in Way of X. Maybe there's a very real argument to be made that there's something insidious about three straight years of voting to determine if characters like Monet (who, by the by, has been retooled from "basically Superman" to "Black woman with anger powers") deserve the honor of being written by a white man who's stayed writing with his foot in his mouth. I mean, hey! All my white friends in the scene say he's nice, just like Williams, or Howard, or any number of other crusty crackers who are still proud of tripping over the bar Claremont left on the floor in the 80's!
And dammit, we kept the faith!
Even before the issue dropped, the Fall of X has had a lot of us wary. After all, all of the promotion leading up to it has been white guys saying the minority allegory has had it too good for too long, which, whatever, press copy. We all know they've gotta sell books — they, in this case, being the almost exclusively white, almost exclusively male creative teams attached to all of the books in the line. Sure, as Duggan said, the 616 has a fascism problem, but it’s hard not to see this as a deliberate step back from the almost double digit number of non-white creators these past few years — almost as if Marvel has realized they can make space for a fourth ongoing by their favorite white boy if they just throw out a Voices special every couple of months as a containment zone for the darkies. And, hey, considering how good ol’ C.B. got his foot in the door, I can’t even fake surprise. At this point, it’s a minor miracle any time a person of color is tapped for anything that’s expected to last beyond one issue.
In this issue, as a reward for keeping the faith, we got to see something astounding, something that'd bring a tear to the eye of even the most cynical reader — a team that was only half white. My god. And sure, their brutal murder in favor of a team with Kate "Hard-Arrr" Pryde and the Kingpin(????) was only a pit-stop between the resurrection of the suddenly ashy Ms. Marvel and Lourdes Chantel being killed off for the sake of a white woman's angst yet afuckinggain, but ain't that the dream that Malcolm Ten or whoever died for?
The Krakoan era, ultimately, has been the same as every other. Empty promises by white men who show us time and again that there was never any point in expecting anything better. Any meaning we've found, everything of worth, has been what we've made for ourselves.
We've spent years keeping the faith, Gerry, while you and yours have continued to let us down. What the hell do we have to show for it?

In my head, you’re a Magnus Archives blog. I mean, I know you obviously listen to other things, but In my mind it’s things like Welcome to Nightvale, Malevolent, Hello from the Hallowoods, The Sheridan Tapes, things like that, horror and supernatural.
So I had to do a double-take when I saw a Dungeons and Daddies post from you, I really didn’t know you listened to it. Then I see you reblog a Fawx and Stallion post, and now I’m just wondering how many podcasts you’ve listened to that I’ve also listened to.
Hahaha yes this blog has been mainly for tma stuff for years now, I still feel like I'm new to the fandom but honestly I've been here through a lot of it since the beginning of season 5
Buuuuut in the past few months I've stopped going into the tma tag regularly and been feeling a little detached from it, at least as opposed to before. My listen to tmagp has been way less interactive and I hardly reblog content anymore (which is something I like doing but because of various bad experiences on the internet recently I have yet to recover from I feel safer posting my own original posts rather than reblogging)
And that freed up a space in my mind to realize I've actually been listening to a lot of podcasts besides tma and it's honestly a shame not to talk about them more with others
I do listen to a lot of horror fantasy supernatural and science fiction podcasts! I also love a lot of dnd and ttrpg podcasts, I also love everything dropout and wish I could get into critical role but it's so big I don't think I'll manage it
I put under the cut a (quite long) list of the podcasts I have listened to and/or have notifications turned on
Anyone following me, you're welcome to send me an ask about one of them if you like them as well or want to hear about them!
I also put a list of podcasts on my to listen to list. Feel free to drop a recommendation for which them to listen to first!

What is your favourite Doctor Who story?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
synopses and propaganda under the cut
Fires of Pompeii
Synopsis
The Tenth Doctor tries taking Donna Noble to ancient Rome for her first trip in the TARDIS, but seems to have miscalculated. Instead of seven hills, they find a single mountain billowing smoke — Vesuvius. They're in Pompeii, 23 August 79 AD: the day before "Volcano Day". However, something else is horribly wrong. The Soothsayers' predictions seem to always be correct... so why can't they see tomorrow's disastrous events, the eruption of Vesuvius, the death of their city? What is blocking their perception, and will the TARDIS team be able to walk away from a fixed point in time, saving no one from certain doom? Well, Donna has something to say about that!
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
City of Death
Synopsis
While taking in the sights of Paris in 1979, the Fourth Doctor and Romana sense that someone is tampering with time. Who is the mysterious Count Scarlioni? Why does he seem to have counterparts scattered through time? And just how many copies of the Mona Lisa did Leonardo da Vinci paint?
Propaganda
even if your not a classic who fan, you have seen moments from this, “wonderful butler, he’s so violent”, “youre a beautiful woman, probably”, “if you wanted an omelette I’d expect to find a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames, and an unconscious chef”. The location shooting, iconic, the music, iconic, the plot, so iconic I was once watching something (non doctor who) that referenced it as a fake historical event. Dare I say duggan is the greatest side character of all time. Romana’s outfit, the design of scaroth, the implication time lords can fly. it’s not my favourite overall, but its damn near close, it deserves AT LEAST the semi finals, AT LEAST. If you’ve not seen it or any classic who, go watch it, its so good, one of the best of the era. Also, how could I forget, the most watched episode on broadcast out of all of doctor who, including new who. (yes it was because itv was off the air due to strikes, but im glad its this episode that holds the record) (anonymous)

Just throwing it out into the Podcast Side of tumblr but I'm looking for recommendations.
So far podcasts I've listened to and liked are:
The Magnus Archives
Malevolent
The Sheridan Tapes
Monstrous Agonies
Badlands Cola
Time:Bombs
Podcasts that I stopped halfway:
Duggan Hill (felt too convoluted yet predictable)
Wooden Overcoats (didn't vibe with the tone)
The Penumbra Podcast (not sure why, might have been my own depression and now inertia)
In general, I think my interest lies in detective/investigation story hooks, but I'm pretty flexible on that. And I would greatly prefer if the podcast does not have kissing noises.
I like listening to podcasts to keep me motivated while doing chores so it would be great help if I got some recommendations <3

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
Super Secret Supplemental - SHIELD
S.H.I.E.L.D (or the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) was an international peacekeeping, law enforcement, and counter-terrorism agency sanctioned by the United Nations. They were led by a director who reports to the World Security Council and the agency was composed of members from various nations.  SHIELD was founded to combat technologically advanced threats on world security (specifically the menace of Hydra); and they remained throughout the years on the front lines, fighting terrorism, supernatural threats and extraterrestrial menaces as an international intelligence agency.
Following the Secret Empire event, SHIELD was formerly dissolved.  Some elements of the organization remain operational, overseeing ‘black site’ prisons and handling the transition of its duties to other intelligence agencies.
Many individuals have served as agents and operatives for SHIELD over the years.  Some of the more notable agents include the following:
Tumblr media
Colonel Nicholas Fury Sr. was one of the organization’s earliest recruits and he quickly matriculated to the role of director.  The character is portrayed by actor Samuel L. Jackson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Nick Fury’s first appearance was in the pages of Sgt. Fury #1 (1963).
Commander Timothy Dum Dum Duggan had been Fury’s colleague among the Howling Commandos during the Second World War.  He joined SHIELD and would go on to be Fury’s right-hand man, rising to the rank of director for a time.  Duggan additionally headed up SHIELD’s Godzilla division as well as its monster-oriented new Howling Commandos.  Actor Neal McDonough portrayed the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Duggan first appeared in the pages of Sgt. Fury #1 (1963).
Tumblr media
Agent Maria Hill became the director of SHIELD following Fury’s ouster and served in the position during the first Superhero Civil War.  Hill stayed on as second in command during the time that Tony Stark acted as director.  Her hawkish attitudes and supreme distrust toward super powered individuals ultimately led to her being dishonorably discharged from the organization. Maria Hill features in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by actress Cobie Smulders.  The character first appeared in New Avengers Vol. 1 #4 (2005).
Natalia Romanova, also known as The Black Widow, joined SHIELD following her defection from the former Soviet Union.  She has served on and off with the organization throughout her career as an Avenger and solo super hero.  Actress Scarlet Johansson portrays the Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The heroine first appeared in the pages of Tales of Suspense #52 (1964).
Tumblr media
Sharon Carter, Agent 13, is the niece of Peggy Carter who fought the Axis Forces alongside Captain America in the Second World War.  Agent 13 would go on to have many abetters alongside Captain America and the two became lovers.  She was believed killed in action but later returned and resumed both her position as an agent of SHIELD as well as her romance with Cap.  Actress Emily VanCamp portrays Sharon Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Agent 13 first appeared in the pages of Tales of Suspense #75 (1965)
Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, maintained a partnership with SHIELD throughout many of his adventures in the modern era.  He was offered the directorship over the organization in the wake of the Dark Reign storyline. An evil doppelganger of Rogers would go on to take over SHIELD, using it to forward the agenda of Hydra.  Although the doppelganger was ultimately defeated, the ordeal resulted in the official dissolution of the organization.  Actor Chris Evans portrays Cap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The hero first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (1941).
Tumblr media
The Inhuman heroine, Daisy Johnson, was sought out by Nick Fury during a time in which he was conducting covert affairs for SHIELD.  Fury placed Daisy in charge of an unsanctioned operation to topple a regime in Latveria.  Having gained Fury’s trust, young Daisy was offered level 10 clearance at SHIELD, effectively making her Fury’s second in charge.  Following Fury’s ouster, Daisy briefly served as the organizations director before Maria Hill’s political maneuvering forced her out.  Actress Chloe Bennet portrays Daisy Johnson in the television series Marvel’s Agents of Shield.  The young heroine first appeared in Secret War #2 (2004).
Agent Melinda May earned a reputation as one of SHIELD’s most effective field operatives.  Her quick thinking and highly proficient combat skills helped her save the day on many occasions, earning her the nickname ‘The Calvary.’  May was chosen by section commander, Phil Coulson, to lead a team to take down a terrorist cell that had obtained the mystical Uru sword.  Following the dissolution of SHIELD, May has gone on to become an agent for The FBI. Actress Ming-Na Wen portrayed Agent May in the television series Marvel’s Agents of Shield.  The heroine first comic book appearance was in Agents of SHIELD Vol. 3 #1 (2014).
Tumblr media
Agent Gabe Jones served as a member of the Howling Commandos during World War II.  Following the war, Fury recruited Jones to become an agent of SHIELD.  Jones became a top operative and was a crucial part to bringing down the nefarious organization known as The Secret Empire.  He would later be a part of the SHIELD task force to contain the monster Godzilla.  Jones featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe portrayed by actor Derek Luke.  The hero first appeared in the pages of Sgt. Fury #1 (1963).
Having graduated top of his class at the SHIELD training program, Agent Jasper Sitwell earned a position as Director Fury’s chief assistant and secretary.  In this role, Sitwell (then known as Agent 22) periodically stood in as temporary director during times in which Fury was on assignment or otherwise unavailable.  Sitwell later acted as the official liaison between SHIELD and Stark Industries, which led to many adventures involving Iron Man and the hero’s many foes.  A decidedly less heroic version of Jasper Sitwell featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by actor Maximiliano Hernández.  The agent first appeared in the pages of Strange Tales #144 (1966).
Tumblr media
Agent Victoria Hand had been an accountant at SHIELD who voiced significantly hawkish views on how the organization should be run.  Her notions caught the attention of Norman Osborn who had been made director of SHIELD following the Secret Invasion event.  Osborn promoted Hand as his chief lieutenant and she essentially acted as director in that Osborn was often preoccupied with his various diabolical schemes.  Hand remained with the organization following Osborn’s ouster and the new director, Tony Stark, assigned her as the official liaison to the Avengers.  She was later killed in action.  Actress Saffron Burrows portrayed Hand in the television series Marvel’s Agents of Shield.  The agent first appeared in the pages of Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #8 (2008).
The enigmatic Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine joined SHIELD because she was bored by her life of privilege and luxury.  Her keen tactical mind and fierce combat skills helped her rise through the ranks and she soon became a top agent.  She also became romantically involved with Nick Fury, ultimately leading her to be transferred to the European branch to avoid the appearance that Fury was showing favoritism.  The Contessa would briefly act as director of SHIELD yet was secretly involved with a villainous cabal known as Leviathan.   Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus portrays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The Contessa first appeared in the pages of Strange Tales #159 (1967).
Tumblr media
Alphonso ‘Mac’ Mackenzie had acted as a liaison between SHIELD and the CIA before formerly becoming an agent of SHIELD.  He quickly became a top agent, frequently working alongside fellow agents Jasper Sitwell and Jimmy Woo.  Something of a luddite, Mac was highly distrustful of SHIELD’s increasing reliance on advanced technology.  His suspicions in this regard proved crucial in preventing the organization from being taken over by The Deltite Corporation, thwarting the plan to replace all top agents with Life Model Decoy androids.  A version of Mackenzie featured in the television series Marvel’s Agents of Shield, portrayed by actor Henry Simmons. The agent first appeared in the pages of Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. #3 (1988)
Agent Sidney Levine, often known as The Gaffer, had been a fighter pilot during World War II.  Following the war he became involved in creating special effects for Hollywood.  He ingenuity for gadgetry resulted in his being recruited into SHIELD.  Working in conjunction with technicians from Stark Industries, The Gaffer was responsible for many of the organizations most ingenious weapons and devices.  The agent first appeared in Strange Tales #159 (1967).
Tumblr media
Phillip Coulson served as an Army Ranger stationed in Afghanistan.  During his service he became close friends with fellow Ranger, Marcus Johnson.  After Johnson learned he was the son of Nick Fury he ended up recruited into SHIELD and Coulson signed up alongside him.  Coulson would go on to become a top operative and oversaw his own squad of agents.  Coulson was later apparently killed by Deadpool in the opening salvos of The Secret Empire Event.  Yet it turned out that Coulson was resurrected by the villainous of Mephisto who then used Coulson as a pawn in the creation of the government-sanctioned super-team, the Squadron Supreme of America.  Actor Clarke Gregg portrayed Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  His first comic book appearance was in the pages of Battle Scars #1 (2011).
Marcus Johnson, born Nicholas Fury Jr., grew up unaware that he was the son of Nick Fury and that he had inherited the ‘infinity formula’ from his father.  This led him to being targeted by the villainous Orion who sought to extract the formula from him so to save his own life.  He was saved and ended up following in father’s footsteps, joining SHIELD.  Nick Fury Jr first appeared in Battle Scars #1 (2011).
Tumblr media
Agent Jimmy Woo worked for the FBI leading a task force hunting down the international crime lord known as The Golden Claw.  He was later recruited into SHIELD and aided the organization in finally taking the Claw down.  He remained with SHIELD participating in many missions and acting as part of SHIELD’s Godzilla Unit.  Years later, The Golden Claw resurfaced and Woo would go on to take over the Claw’s organization, reforming it into the Atlas Foundation and a force for good.  Actor Randell Park portrays Jimmy Woo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The agent’s first comic book appearance was in the pages of Yellow Claw #1 (1956).
A former captain in the United States Air Force, Clay Quartermain was recruited into the ranks of SHIELD during its battle against the forces of The Golden Claw.  He continued on with the organization and embarked on numerous missions.  His garrulousness and boastful nature rubbed some of his fellow agents the wrong way, but he proved himself highly capable and was put in charge of SHIELD’s Hulk-Busters unit.  He was later apparently killed while investigating the mystery of the Red Hulk.  Clay Quartermain first appeared in the pages of Strange Tales #163 (1967).
Tumblr media
Agent Barbara ‘Bobbi’ Morse, also known as Agent 19, served as a field agent and scientist for SHIELD, sharing numerous adventures alongside Ka-Zar of the Savage Land.  Fearing that her work with SHIELD could endanger her family, Morse faked her death and began operating as the costumed hero Mockingbird.  Not long thereafter, she became a frequent ally of Hawkeye.  The two fell in love and eventually married and together they formed the West Coast branch of The Avengers.  Actress Adrianne Palicki portrayed Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird in the television series Marvel’s Agents of Shield; whereas actress Linda Cardellini has played Hawkeye’s wife and former SHIELD Agent 19 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The heroine first appeared in the pages of Astonishing Tales Vol. 1 #6 (1971).
Junior agent Roz Solomon served as a member of SHIELD in the organization’s environmental sciences division.  A staunch environmentalist, Solomon investigated an illegal oceanic drilling practice conducted by the Roxxan Oil Corporation and ended up sharing an adventure with the Mighty Thor. Following the dissuasion of SHIELD, Solomon accepted an offer by King T’Challa to become a part of his Agents of Wakanda program.  The intrepid young agent first appeared in the pages of Thor: God of Thunder #12 (2013).
Tumblr media
Commodore Lance Hunter was born in Kent, England and served in the Royal Navy before becoming a top operative for MI-6.  He was later put in charge of the organization, S.T.R.I.K.E. (or the Special Tactical Reserve for International Key Emergencies) which acted as a sister agency to SHIELD in the United Kingdom.  Hunter would go on to have numerous adventures alongside Nick Fury, Captain Britain and Captain America.  During his missions in conjunction with SHIELD, Hunter sparked up a romance with SHIELD agent, Bobbi Morse. The pair briefly rekindled their romance following Bobbi’s divorce from Clint Barton.  Actor Nick Blood portrayed a version of Lance Hunter in the television series, Marvel’s Agents of Shield.  The hero first appeared in the pages of Captain Britain #19 (1977).
Agent Monica Chang was the chief of SHIELD's Artificial Intelligence division. She was tasked with the interrogation of Hank Pym after the virus with which he destroyed Ultron evolved into the A.I. known as Dimitrios, and started mounting cyberattacks against secure military and intelligence targets. She ordered Hank Pym to help her destroy this new threat, for which Pym created a new team of Avengers: the Avengers A.I.  Chang acted as a part of the Avengers A.I. until Dimitrios was destroyed and the team disbanded.  The heroine first appeared in the pages of Avengers A.I. #1 (2013).

Doctor Jemma Simmons had been a science officer at SHIELD when she was recruited into Phil Coulson’s special operations unit investigating the mystical Uru sword.  Simmons later aided Coulson in garnering the aide of the Inhuman known as Karnak in a kidnapping case.  During another mission, Dr. Simmons was infected with a virus manufactured by the terrorist cell, AIM.  The virus proved fatal yet Simmons was saved when Deathlock transformed her into a partial cyborg.  The agent originally appeared in the television series, Marvel’s Agents of Shield, portrayed by actress Elizabeth Henstridge.  Simmon's first comic appearance was int he pages of S.H.I.E.L.D. Vol. 3 #1 (2014).
Agent Leopold Fitz had been a fifth level SHIELD operative who showed a tremendous aptitude for mechanical engineering.  He was recruited by Commander Phil Coulson to act as a part of his special operations squad to address a terrorist group that had obtained the mystical Uru sword.  Fitz remained a part of Cousin’s team until it was disbanded.  Fitz originally appeared in the television series, Marvel’s Agents of Shield, portrayed by actor Iain De Caestecker.  The agent’s first comic appearance was int he pages of S.H.I.E.L.D. Vol. 3 #1 (2014).
The organization first appeared in the pages of Strange Tales #135 (1965).

Doctor Who fancast of LotR, current draft:
Bilbo: Patrick Troughton <3
Gandalf: Peter Capaldi (this is only partly on account of his eyebrows)
Frodo: Paul McGann. I'm VERY committed to this
Sam: ???
Merry: Ian Marter. He's a posh lad, our Merry
Pippin: Frazer Hines (who otherwise would be a shoo-in for Sam)
Lobelia: ?? Don't know but she deserves the best in terms of casting. Considering SJA-era Liz Sladen
Gildor, Farmer Maggot, Fatty: All ?? (Farmer Maggot MIGHT be John Levene. Might be Sylvester McCoy.)
Tom Bombadil: Colin Baker. Listen, I was very torn here because OBVIOUSLY Tom Baker has the correct energy, but Colin does too and I think he would have more fun with the little songs. Also I want to save Tom Baker's voice for someone else
Goldberry: Lalla Ward (...unfortunately another point for Tom as Tom)
Butterbur: ...I feel like there's an obvious choice but I don't have him
Aragorn: Nicholas Courtney, YES my Brigadier bias is showing through, but you know he could handle "running herd on the hobbits"
Glorfindel: Peter Davison
Elrond: Matt Smith. Listen I like this choice so much. Old and wise and the last of his kind!!
Arwen: ?? This just feels like a game of "which dark-haired DW actress do I declare the Most Beautiful," except they also need the correct Elvish Vibes. For the vibes especially, I'm considering Carole Ann Ford. But then there's Mary Tamm, who is properly Tall. idk.
Boromir: ???
Legolas: Peter Purves?? I can't even tell you why he just kinda seems to fit and that's the best I got.
Gimli: Michael Craze??? See above.
Galadriel: ?? Again, this should be easier. DW has so many good actresses. But I can't think of anyone who's quite right. Mary Tamm in a blonde wig? Jacqueline Hill ditto? Lalla Ward would be great if she were just taller, but I don't regret giving her Goldberry either.
Celeborn: ??
Eomer: David Tennant. Eomer has a good range of Big Emotions, which I feel is important when casting David Tennant. (And yes I'm waiving the hair color here too.)
Treebeard: Tom Baker. THIS is what I was saving his voice for. You get it right??
Quickbeam: ??
Theoden: William Hartnell. <3 This one is very important to me.
Eowyn: Karen Gillian. Listen. She could DO it. (Also this makes both siblings Scottish, which amuses me.)
Grima: ??
Saruman: Jon Pertwee. I wanted him for Denethor too, but if I have to choose... Saruman.
Gollum: ?? Casting anyone as Gollum just feels mean.
Faramir: Hnggggh... I am considering both William Russell (Ian bias) and Arthur Darvill (to be opposite Karen Gillian but also he likes cool parts with gravitas). I don't know.
Denethor: ?? All wizard-adjacent characters should be played by Doctors but I've used all the applicable Doctors. ...Anthony Ainley?
Beregond: ?? He FEELS like a John Levene character but John Levene also feels like he really should be a hobbit. I am considering Duggan's actor on the grounds that he's also an everyman
Bergil: ?? I don't have any child actors on hand
Halbrand: ??
Elladan and Elrohir: ??
Prince of Dol Amroth: Okay actually THIS is William Russell
Ioreth: Catherine Tate I think
The Master of the Houses of Healing: pick any half-decent Time Lord, they'll fit the bill :P
Farmer Cotton: ??
Rosie Cotton: Either Anneke Wills or Katy Manning, probably. Or maybe Jenna Coleman.

The story Tom Packard told and the reality
Tumblr media
I know the above image is a bit blurry, but the message summarizes the family story about Joseph: that he was murdered, he worked for the railroad, had collected his pay and was talking down the railroad track, on his way home when an assailant hit him over the head, knocking him unconscious. He laid there, the story goes, and was killed by an incoming train. The stone, with an incorrect city of death, was created by Tom in his memory in West Hill Cemetery. There is one problem with that story: it is completely and utterly wrong, going further in detail that previous family stories which just said he was "killed on the railroad", was "buried in Nebraska," or killed while "working on the railroad." This was a story he told Bob Mills and included in his family history sent to relatives in December 1979 as the Packard/Mills Family History. I include it on this blog because this was one of the pictures sent to me by one of my distant cousins and it connects to what I wrote about on Packed for Packards! just last week.
We already know that Joseph Winfield Packard was a child of Dorothy "Dora" Ann Mills (1849-1895) and Cyrus Winfield Packard (1852-1924), born in Plainfield, Massachusetts on June 17, 1885, and had six siblings (John Henry, Charles Edward, Robert, Margaret, Marion Estelle, and Mabel Hattie), one of whom, Robert, would be adopted by Dora's brother, Robert, a hotel proprietor, in 1895, after her death.
While is is not known how he got out to Nebraska, or what his occupation was, with family stories saying he worked on the railroad, it is clear that Tom was bending the truth about Joseph's death. From what we know, as I discuss in that article, he was found lying beside a train track with a deep gash in his forehead, with bruises and contusions across his body, having on him "five dollars of change, a “quart bottle of whiskey” (a fifth of a gallon or about 26 ounces), a raffle ticket...a receipt belonging to a saloon...in nearby Hubbard, Nebraska" and most importantly a letter from his father. His death was accidental as he was killed "by a passing freight train that morning...and was dragged by the train, furthering his injuries." In some sense, it is understandable that Tom left out these gory details or the implication that Joseph was a drunkard, but what he left out next threw his whole story into question. Joseph was suspected of "robbery at the Duggan and Heffernan saloon on Saturday night, not an uncommon occurrence for the saloon." This would mean he was a criminal. He also didn't mention that Cyrus, according to newspaper reports, called himself a poor man who wanted to know particulars of his son's death as the county paid for funeral expenses. It is still not known, as I discuss in the post on Packed with Packards!, where Joseph is exactly buried, as that would require going to all the cemeteries in the area to find out for yourself. Yes, it is possible he worked on the railroad, but I tend to doubt that highly based on the various newspaper reports on his death that I have read recently.
This post was originally published on WordPress in August 2019.
As I've learned from family gatherings and such in the past, telling the truth is not always the object of storytelling, but rather it is telling a "good story." Tom's story must have seemed compelling enough but perhaps it was just what he was told. Cyrus, and likely his third wife, Clementina, knew the truth about Joseph's death. It raises the question of who came up with this story. Since Tom was eight years at the time of Joseph's death, it is possible that Cyrus got all of them together and told of Joseph's death. If this is what happened, he would have left out the gory details, the drunkenness (which may have been seen as socially unacceptable at the time), and making Joseph out to be a victim rather than a drunkard who may have robbed a saloon the previous night. It is much more compelling to note, as I write on Packed with Packards! that Joseph's death was not unusual for the time, as he was "one of the 314 people killed in railroad-related deaths" that year, even though there still are "many remaining questions about Joseph’s life." This makes it clear, as I wrote on that blog, that Joseph is clearly, without a doubt in my mind, "the Nebraskan Man of Mystery."
