Harry Potter Rec Fest Day 10 - Fest Fics

Outside of @etl-echo-audiobooks fests (see Winter Wonderfics 2022 and Draco's Quarter Life Crisis Fest 2023), this is my first year participating in fests, including @hprecfest. I've had so much fun and met some really lovely people. I'm so grateful to this fandom for being so welcoming and constantly coming up with new, fun ideas for fests. And of course to all the participating authors, artists, podficcers, and endlessly patient and hardworking mods for shepherding all these new works out into the universe.

This fic just flies by. The descriptions are so great, I could picture every lacy frill of the lingerie that Harry models. It's hot and sweet and has typically great banter. Thank you @annanother-thing! And an additional thank you to @hd-fan-fair; they've really developed something special. Besides the more than a decade's worth of fics they've collected, they have a competitive reading contest to encourage commenting and reccing during the anonymous posting period. It was so much fun to participate and I encourage everyone to join in next year! And read everything from this year's fest; it's a treasure trove of really interesting and diverse fics.

No one who has been in the Drarry world for a while needs me to rec them Saras_Girl, who would be on the Mt. Rushmore of Drarry writers, if that were a thing that existed. So this rec is really for @semperfiona, who is an exemplary podficcer with over 50 podfics under her belt. This fic is very sweet (part of Saras_Girl's Fluffy!Verse) and @semperfiona renders it perfectly in audio form.

Out of Place written by faelyee for @snarryauctoberfest 2021 Podfic read by Cailynwrites for @snarryauctoberfest 2023 Pairing: Harry x Severus Word count: 28,102 Length: 3:08:01 (11 chapters) Rating: T

I was excited when I found this fic, because it's not just one AU, it's a bunch. Harry is traveling through various alternative universes trying to get back to his own. There's one common thread throughout: Severus. This fic is heartbreaking and sad because not all AUs are bad for Harry. When I decided to record this, I hadn't really thought about the number of characters I would need to voice, including some original characters. I think it's worth a listen or a read on the strength of the writing alone.

Harry Potter hates being separated from Draco Malfoy. Not because he's in love with him, for Merlin's sake! Because they're Auror Partners. One time is all it takes for Draco to be attacked with an illicit potion. Until it wears off, Harry's job is taking care of his partner. Harry thinks the effects of the potion can't possibly be as serious as Robards says. He thinks wrong.

May All Your Christmases Be White by @slyth-princess [16k]

It is impossible for Draco to deny the inherent festivity that Christmas brings. From Yuletide carols to fairylights, evergreens festooned with baubles in a rainbow of colors to pub nights with friends wrapped in their warmest coats. There is a level of hope that the season always seems to bring, even when life is at it's darkest. All around him are the things making the spirit of the season. People are happy. At least, that's what he assumes. At this point, he doesn't know. For him, the holidays have not always proved to be a merry season. What Draco does know, without any doubt, is there is one thing Christmas always needs to feel like the holiday has truly arrived. And that one thing is snow. Although, over time, he realises there is one other thing that he has begun to associate with Christmas, something he needs for the holiday to feel real. Harry Potter.

when i saw @ladderofyears​ incredible @hpdrizzle prompt about harry and draco being set a project to repair the temperature regulation charms in hogwarts’ greenhouses, i immediately knew i wanted to do something involving all the fun weather tropes you get in romcoms (heat = stripping naked, crying in the rain, cold = huddle together)… what we ended up with is a short novel that IS about all those things, but is mostly about being young, dumb, and full of cum. 

this wasn’t supposed to be this long, but as i started writing i realized i really wanted to explore an 8th Year story centering the paradox of being young but also an adult: that time in life where you feel everything very much but have no idea who you are, and by that i mean: where everything feels like it’s only happening to you, where every love is the most powerful love that’s ever existed, where every mistake is the end of the actual world, where you barely know how to be alive but desperately want everything. 

if it’s not too bold to say, i think i achieved that, but i absolutely would not have done if it wasn’t for three very important people: @sorrybutblog @sweet-s0rr0w and @maziktheli. these three heroes held my hand and listened to my woes and busted my many many commas, and their feedback and time and thoughtful critique absolutely shaped not only this story but my writing in general. a special kudos to @sorrybutblog who was quite literally waiting in the wings for the final chapters as i pushed this thing out through my 3rd extension. 

i’m going to be bold again and say that this is my favorite thing i’ve written, maybe my 8th year magnum opus (and probably the last 8th year i will write for a very long time) and it was an honor to write it for you @ladderofyears! you are such a tour de force in this fandom, and we are so blessed to have you.

This was such a labour of love and is so close to my heart. As soon as I saw the prompt I knew I had to do an Australian road trip, and this fic is one long love letter to this vast country. It also marks my first anon fest, my longest completed fic, my first completed multi-chap and my first ever smut.

This fic wouldn't be here without a huge village but special thanks go to @makeitp1nk who would ask "are you working or drizzling?" every time I popped up in the sprint channel, @crazybutgood and @vukovich for their last-minute wrangling of both grammar and smut, and my dearest @phoebe-delia who hold my hand through the whole thing, constantly convinced me it was actually good, and is just the best friend/little sister I could ask for.
