Why do you need your earbuds to have a wire so badly?

I am assuming this is about a post I reblogged like six months ago when I went off on forced technological enshitification and the slow erosion of consumer options. But sure, I’ll bite.

Why do I “need” my earbuds to have a wire? I dunno, Anon, maybe I:

Don’t want to have to worry about recharging my earbuds.

Don’t want my earbuds to be even easier to lose.

Don’t want my earbuds to need separate accessories that are as easy to lose as the earbuds.

Prefer to have bluetooth turned off on my devices for security and safety reasons.

Like being able to seamlessly plug my earbuds into my computer, my MP3 player, or any other device with a headphone jack.

Don’t want to spend 50 dollars on decent wireless earbuds when I can do all the above things with a pair of solid earbuds that cost me like $12 during the Obama administration.

Don’t care about what kinds of headphones or earbuds people wear but don’t like what it says about our society when other people apparently care what kind of earbuds I’m wearing so much they have send an Anonymous ask to interrogate me about it.

And I guess, more abstractly, because fuck Apple. That’s why.

Hear ye, hear ye! We are back for another year!

While the start of any fest activity won't occur for a few weeks yet, here's the timeline for Snarry AUctoberfest 2024!

You early birds can get started on brainstorming! Coffeeshop AU? A Barbie Snarry infusion? Sleeping Beauty retelling? The sky is the limit! (Speaking of sky: Space AU??) How does one get Snarry to fall in love? ❤️ (Or fall out of love?💔)

Snarry AUctoberfest is an anonymous, prompt-based fest focusing on Harry Potter/Severus Snape in an AU setting. The fest is run by members of the House of Snarry Discord server.

You do not need to be a member of our server to participate in the fest.

fortunately i have only ever heard about this in passing but the idea of people criticizing fics for not being exactly what they want them to be is so funny to me. like with all due respect good sirs [gn] this is not the bespoke zone. nobody is measuring you for this suit. it is off the rack. if it's a good fit then enjoy, if it isn't well then that is a you problem. go get a different suit.

Rec: Hogwarts Houses Divided (Gen-Teddy Lupin) 197K by @inverarity-the-writer

This is an old fic from 2007, that @inverarity-the-writer, has just recently posted to AO3. It's been backdated to 2007, which I think limited its readership so far. Many HP Gen readers know the author from the Alexandra Quick Series (1.15M) a story about an American OC in the Wizarding World that started in 2007 and updates every 3-4 years. The latest update Part 6 just came a few days ago. The series has a niche but very loyal following. But I want to talk about this Teddy Lupin fic! Summary: The war is over, and all is well, they say, but the wounds remain unhealed. Bitterness divides the Houses of Hogwarts. Can the first children born since the war's end begin a new era, or will the enmities of their parents be their permanent legacy? Comments: This fic has all of the charm of a fic written right after the release of HPDH. Not all of the additional canon info was known but a little was. It's unlike most nextgen fics I've read, it takes place when Teddy Lupin begins Hogwarts. He becomes fast friends with three other characters that are in the same Hogwarts Express Compartment as he is. Dewey Diggory (Cedric's brother born after his death), Kai Chang (Cho Chang's half brother), and my fav, Violet Parkinson (daughter of Pansy and Draco, though they never married and Pansy is still off the rails. FYI She was pregnant during the last Battle.)

All is not well at Hogwarts. Bitterness over the war and which sides the kids' parents were still spills over to the kids. It's ugly and worse than it's ever been. The Headmistress and Staff try to get a handle on it, but Teddy views it as not being fair at all. He's got strong characteristics of both his parents and a heavy influence from his godfather Harry. The plot, which is strong, begins with a mystery of wands being stolen from students. The direction it goes is surprising and the D.A. is reformed. You'll cheer for Teddy and his friends, and your heart will break for a few others. The Marauder's Map makes a strong appearance, and the moments where Harry, the Weasleys, Cho, Pansy and Draco pop-in are terrific.

So, if you're up for some strong nostalgia, and a first year adventure story, this will entertain you from start to finish.

Just a side note: This maybe the first fic I've read where Professor Binns plays an important role.

Seconding all of this!!! It's so freaking good, as are all the fics from @dronarryfest.

Apparently I do recs now: Borrowed Time (Dronarry)

I've never wrote a fic recommendation before but the more I read the more I feel that screaming in the comments and leaving kudos is not enough. So, here's my first rec and it couldn't be more fitting the fact that is from @the-starryknight, the first person that welcomed me into this fandom two years ago and made me feel at home. So here we go:

Borrowed Time || E || 8k || by @the-starryknight

Harry finds himself in quite a dire situation, waking up in the wrong bed and in the arms of his best friend's lover. From there is a wonderful trip and, even when the tag says #PlotWhatPlot, I believe that there is a plot in the way Harry gets from a panic attack to extremely horny to 'I guess I could get used to this'. If you like fun, soft and sexy fanfics, this is your cup of tea.

This fic is part of the @dronarryfest and before it, I didn't know I could like Ron. I'm a Drarry girl, most specifically a Draco girl, but this fest has made me want to jump into Ron's lap and purr like a cat. The established Dron (is it Dron? I'm new here, so I don't know what I'm supposed to be calling RonxDraco, sorry) is something I've realized I enjoy very much and if you read this, you would too. In such a small amount of words, Starry portrays a wholesome, spicy, and tender relationship between those two. The cheeky way in which they drag horny overthinking Harry into their hands is amusing. The way Starry portrays the duality of Draco, soft and caring with Ron, and teasing and bickering with Harry is amazing, giving our beloved slytherin a dimension I always crave in his characterization. Harry is a panicking horny mess and who can blame him for that. And finally, Ron, cheeky bold Ron who's sure about himself and what he wants. I want a Ron, I need a Ron, and the way is written here is spot on. So, folks, go read it and let me know what you think about it. Is a short, well-written piece with amazing witty comments that I assure would leave you with a big smile on your face.

The tragedy of Severus Snape

The reason why Severus Snape is the most tragic character in the Harry Potter series

Snape‘s character isn‘t so tragic because he didn‘t „get“ Lily.

His character is so tragic because he was doomed from the very beginning.

It‘s so tragic, because he was hit by his drunk father.

It‘s so tragic because he was neglected by his mother.

It‘s tragic because he was separated by his childhood friend by being sorted into a house where you couldn‘t survive as a halfblood if you didn‘t adapt to the social rules of said house and joining a hateful cult.

He is a tragic character because he is bullied from day one and sexually harrassed in front of the other students.

His loss of Lily is so tragic, because she was the only friend he ever had.

It‘s so tragic because she was the only person in his life to show him understanding and kindness, warmth and love.

The love of a friend.

It‘s so tragic because noone ever showed him love again after Lily.

It is so tragic because he is silenced over the werewolf incident and forbidden from telling anyone he was almost murdered.

It‘s so tragic because he has to see his almost murderers and bullies get away with it without any form of punishment.

He is silenced.

It‘s tragic because he has to watch the love of his life marry his childhood tormentor.

It‘s tragic because he has to kill one of the only people he ever cared about. The only person who knows about his true loyalties.

It‘s so tragic because he dies believing the world will always believe him to be the villain.

A traitor and the murderer of Dumbledore.

He dies thinking that the truth about his loyalty will die with him and Harry.

It‘s so tragic because the only other person in his life to show him kindness(, when he stays with him while he dies,)is the son of the love of his life who he lost.

It is so tragic, because he dies in the belief that he has doomed this boy, the boy he always protected.

He dies in the belief that all of it was in vain.

He dies thinking that all of it was for nothing.

He dies believing that he is sending Harry who he tried to protect all these years to his death.

His death is so tragic because of all of the above reasons and also because he is murdered in cold blood.

He is killed slowly. He is terrified. He knows what‘s coming and that he can‘t safe himself.

He is killed by the person he fears the most.

His death must have been unbearably painful and agonizing.

He must have been in so much pain.

It’s so tragic because he never had a chance.

Snapes character is so unbelievably tragic because he was never intended to have a happy ending.

It‘s so tragic because his whole life was nothing but a tragedy.
