#drama school
an average day with Apollo
me: gosh, i’m feeling so unmotivated and self-conscious right now. i’ll never be good enough to do musical theatre, maybe i should give up on my dreams of performing and just do something i hate for money
Apollo: NOT ON MY WATCH (present for my audition that i dedicated to him, now I’m in the top 5 choices for BOTH female leads in the end of year show)
me: nvm i’m gonna keep performing i love you <3
in other words i literally cannot explain how much i adore Apollo and how grateful i am that he’s with me every step of the way - and knows how to kick me back into gear when life is shitty 💛🧡

Child actors, employed with increasing frequency onstage and in radio, had a drama school of their own in the 1930s. The Juvenile Theatre of Art trained them and gave them an opportunity to act in repertory company at Carnegie Hall. It produced four plays in the 1937-38 season for paid audiences. This was the stage door on January 21, 1938.

To Rodenburg’s astonishment, teaching colleagues refused to let her watch their classes. While she is a renowned authority on Shakespeare and classical theatrical texts, she sensed that they do not even “believe in Shakespeare”. She also heard from students that other teachers were not pushing them to excel, instead telling them: “Don’t worry if you can’t do it. Just lie on the floor for a bit.”

Rowan’s drama school graduation piece from 2005. Someone posted it in the squad.
I thought this was quite well done, buuuuuut TRIGGER WARNING! The "touchy subject" is child abuse. He's just falsely accused of it, but still.

Theatre Playground vs Straight Acting
@maryxschuyler the Stella to my Blanche 💞
Martin said we couldn't post videos on socials but he said nothing about pictures also I think Tumblr doesn't count as it is simply a deep dark void so it should be fine
Also peep the violin wrist I don't think I'll ever do anything better than that in my life icl.

Okay this will seem absolutely random and very splainy but since I see this often in fandom and splaining people is literally my job:
People are often super surprised so many actors can dance, sing, or do things like sword fighting (you know, the stunt version), either very well or at least have it listed on their agency pages. All of these things are part of classical actor‘s training. Obviously not everyone has gone to acting/drama school but especially stage training includes all of this as part of a regular multi-year curriculum.
Dancing is usually basic ballroom dancing, but also sometimes ballet or modern. Singing, too, not for like musical level (that‘s a different specialized degree), but basic hitting notes/carrying a tune thing (if you can‘t do it you will probably not even get into a drama school, it‘s part of auditions). And yeah stage combat is still in it, too, quite often. Gotta be able to do all that Shakespeare nonsense. Anyway, I‘m sure most of you know, if you didn‘t, you‘re welcome.
(Also doesn‘t mean everyone who completed a degree is automatically a great actor or that people who didn‘t are bad obviously but when people list some of these skills it‘s very likely they went through professional training somewhere).

If We Were Villains - Shakespeare Has Never Looked So Good
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio has been big on TikTok for years now, especially within the Dark Academia sphere. This massive cult following and the short-form content style of TikTok compounded to make me hesitant and outright avoidant of this book. I have tried other Dark Academia favourites TikTok recommended and have been disappointed so when I did decide to pick If We Were Villains up I…

His dad doesn't sound great, tbh. Even when he talks about key milestones in his life, Guy seems to have been the one there for him - e.g. paying for him to audition for drama school and staying with him in London during. Shouldn't that be things your dad does for you?
Probs why he doesn't invite him to anything loool
I think he said he got money from four people for those auditions: Tina, Guy, his auntie, and David. So yeah, that bare minimum he did do, but I doubt much more than that. And yes, Guy was for sure the one who went down to London with him, not David. 🤷🏻‍♀️
