hysterectomy + 2 weeks post-op top surgery

CW: talk of reproductive organs, blood, hospitals, etc. General TMI stuff ahead.

I meant to post this three days ago! But anesthesia apparently really fucks with my concentration. And so does exhaustion from having two major surgeries less than two weeks apart. Here we go:

Four days ago, I had a full hysterectomy with Dr. Zoe Rodriguez at Mt. Sinai hospital in NYC. By ‘full’, I mean they removed everything — uterus, tubes, ovaries, etc.

I was told no eating after midnight the day of the surgery, though of course that’s a pretty commonly known thing because of the anesthetic. I had to be at the hospital at 6:30, so my mom and I were up early. We had an easy trip into the city and got there a little early. The hospital was small, though the waiting room did have some occupants who obviously had arrived even earlier than us. I checked in, filled out paperwork, signed my name for the fiftieth time this month…(been signing a lot of paperwork recently). I was brought back to sign some more paperwork, was asked when was the last time I’d eaten anything (9 pm the night before).

About an hour after we arrived, I was called back by a nurse. My mom, who was with me, had to wait in the waiting room while I was told to change into a pair of pants, gown, and robe. They also gave me those ugly grey hospital socks. I put my clothes and belongings into plastic bags and then sat in a second waiting room, until I was led, with another patient, down a hallway, into an elevator, and into the pre-op room. The man who took us there knelt down and rolled up the bottom of my pants for me, “so I wouldn’t trip.” It was emasculating and made me feel like a child. I was mad, but too tired and hungry to voice my feelings.

I sat down on a bed and a nurse came over and took some information. I forgot to tell her I was on testosterone, and she didn’t like that. I forgot to mention that in my list of medications. Silly me. Then they called up my mom and let her join me. My mom said she liked that they gave me a robe. I pointed out my gown was stained

Then, my surgeon came, and we talked about the procedure and she asked if I had any questions (I didn’t). I signed a paper saying I was cool with them taking out a bunch of organs. I met the other two doctors working with my surgeon. I met the anesthesiologist. He was really cool. I told him my left hand still hurt from the IV they placed when I had top surgery a week and a half ago. I also told him how much I hated being groggy after top surgery, and he said he’d do his best to make the waking up from this surgery better. Then, I met one of the OR nurses. I signed another paper.

They asked if I was okay walking to the OR. Sure, I said. I gave my mom a kiss and a hug, and then I followed the doctors to the OR. The had me get on the table, on top of some foam padding. I couldn’t wear my compression binder from top surgery because it covered too much of my abdomen, so I took that off and they wrapped my chest in gauze and ace bandages. I was grateful my surgeon was so careful with my chest, considering it was an inconvenience to her to have to take that extra step.

They put something in my IV that made me feel really spacey. They helped me take off my pants (not weird at all!!) I laid back on the gurney, and then I don’t remember anything until I woke up in the post-op room, which was right next to the pre-op room. My mom said one of the nurses tried explaining the post-op instructions to me while I was still asleep. It took me a long time to wake up from surgery. I felt like I had cramps, but the pain was manageable. I dozed on and off until a nurse came over and asked if I could walk. I said, “I guess so.” She walked me over to a bunch of armchairs and had me sit down on the end. My mom wasn’t allowed to come with me; she had to wait in an area near the elevators, where there were some chairs.

They offered something to eat and drink. I had some tea and saltines. They offered me cake, which looked like it had been sitting out for a while. No thank you. I ate the saltines and drank the tea. The nurse asked if I wanted to try to go to the bathroom. Again, I said, “I guess.” She walked me to the bathroom. While I was still asleep, they put some thin, almost gauze-like underwear on me with a thick pad. She gave me another pad to replace it with. I sat down on the toilet and a lot of blood came out, but no pee. I called the nurse back in and told her I couldn’t pee. She showed me the blood and said she was worried about all of it (why???). She said she was going to call my doctor. My anesthesiologist came over and asked how I was feeling. I said I was feeling pretty good. I was glad he checked in on me. I sat back down and had more tea to drink.

Apparently, the fluid in my IV wasn’t actually going into my body. The part of the tube closest to my hand seemed to be jammed with blood. I think this is why I had trouble peeing, because there was no fluid going into me, besides what I was drinking. My mom came over and sat with me for a while. The doctor came, looked at the blood (which the nurse had kept covered in the bathroom), and said it was normal. It was the last of everything come out after gravity pulled it from me when I stood up and walked around. The doctor left, and my mom was again told she couldn’t wait with me.

I drank two more cups of water, then waited until I felt like I had to pee. The nurse led me to the bathroom again. I asked her if she could hang up the blanket I had over my shoulders, and she pointed to the hook and said, “sure, you can hang it up.” I told her I couldn’t reach up there, I’d just had surgery on my chest. I thought it was weird she hadn’t just done it for me in the first place, considering I could barely stand up straight.

I sat on the toilet for maybe a half hour, until I could finally force some pee out. I was told not to lock the door, in case I need a nurse to come in and help me. Apparently, no one was guarding the door, because two people walked in on me at two different times. I was too out of it to really care. I finally peed enough that the one nurse was happy with. She flushed it down the toilet instead of keeping it in the ‘hat’ they used to measure your pee output. The other nurse didn’t seem happy about that. She made me sit down again and drink more. I asked her why I was still waiting, considering I’d done everything I needed to do before they could discharge me. She said I needed to pee again, and I said I already had. She said she had to talk to the doctor.

Apparently, the doctor said it was alright for me to leave, because they let me get dressed. My mom helped me. The nurse came over and asked to see the pad in my underwear to see how much blood there was. She was satisfied with whatever she saw. They told me to drink a lot of water and sent me on my way.

My mom bought me an orange juice and a Clif bar for the ride home. I wasn’t really hungry but thought I should eat. My throat was killing me from the tube they placed for the anesthesia. I had to stop at a Starbucks on the way home to pee.

I was prescribed Percocet, which I didn’t take. I didn’t take the Oxycodone they prescribed me after top surgery, either. After top surgery, I only took extra strength Tylenol, and for the first two days after my hysto, I took Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I got home, laid on the couch, and ate some soup and pretzels for dinner. I had bad gas pains in my neck and shoulders.

The next couple of days, I felt decent, but didn’t have much of an appetite. I also found that I lost the ability to feel when I had to pee. I just made sure to pee every couple of hours. Today, I feel like that ability is slowly coming back. However, peeing does still take longer than it used to. And, I’m constipated, which didn’t happen after top surgery. Stool softeners are helping. On day two, I had gas pains in my neck and shoulders again, and I also was very tired. I napped for an hour and a half in the afternoon, and spent most of the day on the couch. Day three, I felt a lot better. My appetite started to come back, and I wasn’t as tired. I went for a walk in the afternoon.  Today, my appetite is continuing to return. I went for a little bit of a longer walk. I also went for my two week post-op appointment for top surgery. I had my drains out the day before my hysto, but unfortunately, I’ve had some fluid in my right side of my chest. My surgeon stuck a needle into my chest and drained it, and told me to massage my chest a few times a day and to keep wearing my compression binder. Hopefully, the fluid won’t come back, but she said it might. My throat also still hurts from the anesthetic.

I’m not allowed to do anything more strenuous than walking for at least a couple of weeks, if not more. My hysto surgeon said I’d have to take a month off work, so with already having taken nearly two weeks off before my hysto for top surgery, that’ll be a total of six weeks off from work. But from the way I’m feeling only four days after surgery, I think I may be able to go back sooner, as long as I take it easy. I guess we’ll see. I’ve just been feeling very antsy. Being able to hang out and take a break from Real Life was nice for a couple weeks, but now I’m antsy and want to get back to Real Life. I want to be able to run and lift weights and bike and go to work…but I know I have to be patient.

Overall, I’m very happy with the results of both my surgeries. The seroma complication with my top surgery is more of an annoyance than a genuine concern. It probably happened because the one drain was taken out a little too soon, but I really didn’t want to have to deal with getting a second surgery with the drains still in.

Both of my surgeons are wonderful people and incredibly competent doctors. Obviously, the quality of the nurses I had during my post-op from my hysto weren’t great. But I don’t blame my surgeon for that, nor do I think it shows any reflection on her level of care. I’m healing great and I feel pretty good, besides still feeling vaguely bloated and crampy still.

Is everybody watching the Amber Ruffin Show?? I loved her before but now… I learn so much from her show. Sometimes it takes a comic to get to the real serious shit. For example: Have you heard of drowning towns? Towns like Oscarville, Kowaliga, York hill, Seneca Village, Prentiss and countless other black towns that were drowned out to make lakes for the local whites. Central Park was also made after a black community was erased from history. Development displacement? Alleyway dwelling authority? Even those rabid for history can find out new things everyday. The Emmy’s were a little different this year with more of a Golden Globe look. Cedric the Entertainer hosted with Reggie Watts as DJ. Lots of minority noms but barely a win. It was a white people night. Ted Lasso had a great night. Mare of Eastown took home a few with Evan Peters, Julianne Nicholson and Kate Winslet. Now, Kate is great but how did Anya Taylor- Joy not walk away with that? Queens Gambit did win a couple and gave the longest speech with the seemingly arrogant director Scott Frank who opened up 2 page acceptance. Categories were tough but I was routing for Renee Elise Goldberry and Bowen Yang but perhaps next year. The people in England who had their own party for all the statues that the Crown won seemed to be having more fun! Hacks won for writing and directing and Jean Smart!! It was nice to see the Norm Macdonald love which was barely mentioned by Lorne but celebrated by John Oliver. Colbert ‘s election night special won as did JB Smoove. Hamilton won and Debbie Allen got the big one. I do not understand why real singers and or musicians have to be there for the in Memoriam. It takes me out of it a bit and concentrates the focus on them. Do they think that people will pay attention more? Do they want to keep the home audience or live audience from the bathroom? My best dressed were Anya Taylor-Joy, Michaela Cole who won for I may destroy you, Jean Smart, Josh O’Connor, Kathryn Hahn, Billy Porter, MJ Rodriguez, Keenan Thonpson, Leslie Odom Jr., Catherine O’Hara, Trevor Noah, Eugene Levy, Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, Bowen Yang, Anthony Anderson, Leslie Grossman, Amber Ruffin, Allyson Felix, Renee Elise Goldberry, Samira Wiley and Rege- Jean Page. My worst were Sarah Paulson, Gillian Anderson, Beanie Feldstein, Elizabeth Olsen and Aidy Bryant. To me the best part of the show was the enthusiasm of Conan and the way he injected himself into much of the evening .He was the show. Go Conan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thousands and thousands of people are in need. Haitian refugees and other immigrants have seen nothing like this what with assassination, a hurricane and earthquake. The Southern border is a mess.** Why does Fox news keep telling refugees the border is open as they sit back and laugh at Biden’s predicament. Spreading false info to intentionally hurt poor, distressed people has no end for them.

Do companies know how fucked up their employment websites are? It is true that some people do not want to work. It is true that people schedule interviews and don’t show up. It is also true that companies have made it so hard to apply that many can’t. I suppose it is easier for them but the poor who may really want to work have a hard time. Paper applications are almost completely gone. The old fashioned way of walking into low paying job sites and finding a connection with a manager rarely exist. Some places only accept texts or have long ridiculous psych tests that a working Mother may not have time for. A Father working many hours already, may not be able to go to the library to get online if they cannot afford a computer. Many websites tell you that there no positions available in your area while there is a huge sign in front of the establishment. Can’t find people to work.. Gee I wonder why?? And treat people with respect once you find them, how about that?

Free coffee day came and went but only a few places really gave you free coffee without rules to govern the promo. Some places wanted to sell you something else and some made you belong to their club. Starbucks held that customers had to come inside for the free cup of Joe, handicapped or not.

RFF Phalloplasty (7/7/20)

I started the process of going through RFF Phalloplasty last year. I had been looking at getting it through Dr. Crane until my endocrinologist mentioned that, being a NYS resident, my surgery would be less expensive if I got my surgery in state with Dr. Jess Ting at Mount Sinai. I had contacted them and had a consult within a few months. I was expecting a fairly long wait but they had offered a sooner date. However, I chose to wait till after graduating college. Although, I did have a total hysterectomy with a partial vaginectomy over winter break which was done by the wonderful Dr. Zoe Rodriguez.

With COVID 19, I did not think bottom surgery would occur on time. I still prepared however by doing at home laser hair removal (salons closed) and staying healthy. It was not until two weeks before surgery that I got a call from the surgeon office telling me to come in for testing. It was not a lot of time to mentally prepare and there was a lot to figure out. Luckily, Mount Sinai had taken off a lot of bagage. They got insurance to cover everything, including a stay at a nursing facility since I was not local.

It didn’t set in that surgery was happening until the day before when I was in the car coming down with my mom. I was nervous, excited, and a little worried all at the same time. Originally at the start of my transition, I had decided I would wait till a penile transplant was an option. I felt that meta or phallo would not be enough for me. However, as I got older, my dysphoria got worse as I began to go partake in more serious relationships with women. Using a prosthetic no longer cut it and I always felt like something was missing. It messed with my head and prevented me from being fully comfortable with sexual intimacy. Phalloplasty was my only option.

The day surgery was not like I had planned it. Due to COVID, my mom could not go with me, and I felt very alone. I went in at 6, stayed occupied by reading my book, and waited for my surgeons to arrive. It wasn’t long till they all gathered outside my curtains and whisked me into the operating room. All i remember is them placing an IV in my hand. This stage would be to create the phallus and create a new urethra using some of my forearm as well as vaginal tissue. My urethra however would not be connected until the next stage when I went in again for testicular work, and making the phallus more cis like with some modifications.

I woke up and it was very late. surgery started around 7:30 in the morning and it was now 10:00 at night. My mom and girlfriend informed me later that it took 13 hours till they received calls that I was out and all went well. Shortly after waking up, I was taken to a private room where I would stay for a week. Nurses checked on me every hour. I didn’t get much rest but the staff there was very nice. Due to the lack of rest though, I felt very sick for most of my stay. I had no appetite and threw up a few times.

Phallo wise, everything was great however. It turned out very nicely and I had very little pain in the area. The veins all sounded nice with the Doppler, and I was happy with the results. I had a catheter which I did not mind at first, even though it refused to drain sometimes. My left arm was what hurt the most. The first two weeks I had a wound vac that made a constant chugging sound and hurt from the pressure.

Avatar menceritakan tentang planet bumi yang krisis sumber energi beratus-ratus tahun di masa depan. Para manusia harus mencari sumber energi di planet lain bernama Pandora. Di planet Pandora terdapat sumber energi besar bernama unobtanium. Pandora memiliki udara yang beracun dan ditinggali penduduk asli bernama Na’vi yang memiliki warna biru dan setinggi tiga meter. Untuk mengeksplorasi Pandora, dr. Grace (Sigourney Weaver), ketua penelitian, menggunakan media tubuh Na’vi yang diberi nama Avatar. Beberapa waktu sebelumnya, Jake (Sam Worthington) mengalami luka pada kakinya saat perang. Luka tersebut membuatnya lumpuh. Dr. Grace berjanji akan menyembuhkan kakinya apabila dia mau membantu. Tugas Jake adalah mencari informasi tentang kehidupan Na’vi. Tubuh Jake akan dibuat menyerupai Na’vi dengan penelitian yang sedang dilakukan. Saat sedang menjalankan tugas, Jack diserang oleh seekor predator dan membawanya bertemu dengan Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), salah satu penduduk lokal. Sam Worthington sebagai Jake Sully, mantan Marinir yang cacat yang menjadi bagian dari Program Avatar setelah saudara kembarnya terbunuh. Countdown: Cases that had significant breaks in 2018

As the end of 2018 approaches, I decided to make a series of posts that provide a TL;DR description of some of my top posts about cases that were active in 2018. Below is a countdown of 5 cases that are still ongoing, but made significant progress in 2018. Links to the posts are provided as well!

#5: Latania Janell Carwell. The remains of Latania ‘Janell’ Carwell were found near here home in Georgia. Her stepfather, Leon Tripp, had already been arrested for kidnapping the 16 year-old in 2017, and her mother Tanya Tripp, was arrested for covering for him. Once Janell’s remains were found in 2018, both Leon and Tanya were charged with murder.

#4: Angelica ‘AJ’ Hadsell. During the fall, AJ’s stepfather Wesley Hadsell was charged with murdering the 18 year-old three years earlier. AJ vanished from her mother’s home in Norfolk, Virginia back in 2015, and her remains were found a little over a month later on an abandoned property located 30 miles away. Wesley was a suspect from the beginning, however he has continuously denied harming AJ. It is unclear what finally lead to the murder charges.

#3: Zoe Campos. In November 2018, Carlos Rodriguez admitted to murdering 18 year-old Zoe Campos back in 2013. Zoe had been missing for 5 years and Carlos was the last known person to see her before her disappearance. After finally confessing to murdering Zoe, he told investigators where her remains could be found, on a property formerly owned by his family. Carlos has now been charged with murder and remains behind bars.

#2. Lindsey Baum. Lindsey vanished when she was just 10 years old in June 2009. Her disappearance received national attention and many leads were chased during the following years. Despite the numerous searches, nothing of significance was ever reported to be found. Finally, in the fall of 2017, remains were found in a remote area located over 3 hours away from McCleary. Investigators initially did not suspect that they belonged to the missing girl, however in May 2018 they were positively identified as that of Lindsey Baum. Her death has been classified as a homicide and an investigation is ongoing.

#1. Ebby Steppach. 18 year-old Ebby disappeared in Little Rock, Arkansas in October 2015. She vanished shortly after telling the police about a sexual assault. Her car was found running, yet abandoned, just a day after she was last seen with all of her personal belongings inside. Despite the suspicious circumstances of Ebby’s disappearance, police classified her as a runaway and did not thoroughly search the area where her car was found. Nearly 3 years later, in May 2018, a new cold case team decided to search a drainage pipe near the area where her car was found. During this search, it did not take long for them to find remains. Said remains were identified as Ebby shortly thereafter. Little Rock Police continues to investigate her death but is currently remaining tight-lipped about the investigation. Many have criticized the police for not properly handling Ebby’s case from the beginning. Further reading about this can be found here.

Bella, brava e simpatica… ma avrà qualche difetto?

Belen Rodriguez piace a tutti, uomini e donne, e ogni cosa che tocca diventa oro. Sarà che è sempre positiva, sorridente, spontanea e genuina… Chi non vorrebbe avere un’amica così?

Certo, un’amica un po’ “impegnativa” soprattutto se si tratta di fare shopping insieme… A Belen sta bene davvero tutto e anche quando sui social si mostra in tenuta casalinga riesce a risultare sempre meravigliosa.

Sempre molto attiva sui social, dove condivide tanti aspetti della sua vita, non sbaglia un colpo: ogni foto condivisa è un vero successo.

L’obiettivo è ambizioso, ma perchè non provare a ispirarci ad un suo look?

Ecco un’angelica Belen con una mise decisamente casual, da sfoggiare nel tempo libero composta da una minigonna a ruota, una simpatica felpa di Moschino con un dolcissimo orsetto stampato e un paio di stivaletti bassi.

Le felpe non sono mai troppe e ci salvano in tante occasioni, se poi con le loro stampe ci mettono anche di buon umore, come possiamo trattenerci dall’acquisto?

Possiamo optare anche noi per l’orsetto di Moschino (in versione t-shirt o felpa), ma la proposta è davvero ampia! Tra i soggetti troviamo naturalmente Topolino e Paperino, ma anche un simpatico ranocchio in paillettes, un gattino e, per le più golose, un animaletto fatto di pancake con la panna.

Scegliete uno paio di stivaletti bassi e total black, di quelli che vi consentono di fare chilometri (tra un negozio e l’altro, s’intende!) senza darvi alcun tipo di problema. Date un’occhiata a questi di Balmain, Dr. Martens, Asos e Valentino, troverete sicuramente quello che più vi si addice.

Indossate un velo di trucco, regalate tanti sorrisi e provate a concedervi il lusso di tornare un po’ bambine, almeno per un pomeriggio… e il look è fatto!
